Do College Essays Need Titles
Crafting an essay on the subject of whether college essays require titles is a task that involves
delving into various perspectives, considering academic conventions, and navigating a nuanced
terrain. The difficulty arises from the multifaceted nature of the topic. On one hand, there are
standard formatting expectations within the academic realm that might suggest a title is
necessary for clarity and professionalism. On the other hand, there's a growing trend towards
informality and personal expression in writing, prompting some to question the need for rigid
structures like titles in college essays.
The complexity of this essay lies in the need to carefully balance arguments and
counterarguments. Addressing the question demands an exploration of both practical
considerations, such as adherence to academic guidelines, and more abstract considerations, like
the impact of a title on the overall tone and message of the essay. Additionally, there's a need to
consider the specific requirements of the institution or instructor, as preferences may vary.
Moreover, the task involves analyzing the evolving landscape of academic writing, as trends and
expectations may change over time. This requires staying current with the latest developments in
educational methodologies and understanding how they influence the conventions of essay
writing.
Overall, writing an essay on this topic necessitates a thoughtful examination of the diverse
factors at play. It calls for a careful analysis of the purpose of titles in essays, potential benefits
or drawbacks, and the overall impact on the reader's experience. The challenge lies not only in
presenting a well-reasoned argument but also in addressing potential counterarguments to
provide a comprehensive view.
In conclusion, tackling the question of whether college essays need titles is no easy feat. It
requires a deep understanding of academic norms, a keen awareness of evolving writing trends,
and the ability to navigate through the intricacies of personal expression versus established
conventions. Writing such an essay demands a nuanced approach and a commitment to exploring
the complexities surrounding this seemingly straightforward question.

NASA Budget Essay
Every year NASA is given a large budget from the government. This budget is to
pay for all the different projects and different sectors inside of NASA. Over the
many years that NASA has been an organization the budget has gone up and down
depending on the economy. With the budget decreasing there has to be a decision
what sectors must be cut to stay on budget. One area that has been decreased
significantly year after year is the education sector. In 2016, they were given $115
million and the projected 2017 budget is only $100 million.1
The education sector focuses its work on students of all levels. NASA also creates
educational resources for different levels of educators. NASA believes, As the United
States begins the second century of flight, the Nation must maintain its commitment
to excellence in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics education to
ensure that the next generation of Americans can accept the full measure of their
roles and responsibilities in shaping the future. 2 This leading to NASA s creation of
the STEM system as well as many other opportunities for students all over the nation.

With NASA being an organization that requires high skilled workers it is
important that they have people ready to fill in for the future. By decreasing the
budget given to the education sector as a whole it is only going to hurt NASA s
chances of potentially finding and molding great scientists of the future. Goddard
one of NASA s space centers, is at a crossroads in terms of employee turnover and
retention: more than 50 percent of its scientific and engineering workforce currently
is eligible for retirement. 3 Yet NASA is worried about projects and things that are

High Costs Related to Drug Use Essay
DRUG USE RELATED COSTS Background of the problem It is known that the
major economic costs from drugs use are due to incarcerations and crime rather
than to drug use itself (Keefer, Loayza, Soares, 2010). In Colombia, it is estimated
that 20% of the cocaine and 70% of the marijuana produced is consumed
domestically (Cawley, 2013), most of it in underground spots called ollas. The
gathering of drug traffickers, addicts, and criminals in these places has spawned
crime and insecurity in all cities. The Colombian government has tried some
measures to reduce these externalities of drug use, but they have not been enough nor
adequate. In 2012, possession and consumption of minimal doses of marijuana and
cocaine were decriminalized1. This was... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Policy options to reduce drug use related crime There are three main policies that
could be considered in order to tackle ollas and the crime related costs they
generate. 1. Continue intervening ollas The government could foster the Operation
Green Heart to intervene ollas, just as the President announced it would do
(Cawley, 2013). But this strategy would be ineffective and may even cause larger
harms. Until now the strategy has not shown real long term remarkable results in
reducing crime and consumption. At most, it has only created a balloon effect
displacing ollas a few blocks temporarily; time after the intervention, when police
and public employees are gone, dealers and consumers come back. Furthermore,
intervening big ollas could have split some of them geographically into smaller
ones, making the situation even worse (FIP, 2013). The operation captured 1.843
people participating in drug trafficking, including 42 important drug lords. Despite
these captures, distribution networks remain intact because gangs have found
replacements to reestablish their chain easily (FIP, 2013). There has been no effect
on the supply of drugs, but a massive incarceration of minor drug dealers. Given the
results so far, and considering that there are more than 3.000 ollas identified of
which just 25 were raid last year when the operation began, there is no evidence
Onomatopoeia In Fireworks
Boom, Boom, Boom! Is an example of onomatopoeia, which is a figurative language.
In the song Fireworks by Katy Perry is filled with numerous types of figurative
language and poetic elements. From personification to internal rhyme, there is more
to it. Along with that, there are means behind the words. Throughout the song, what
the singer is saying is that you are unique and that you should show others what you
got.
In the first three lines, the figurative language, personification is identified. Which
means that you are giving a human trait to an object. The singer was giving a human

II. Materials and Methodology
Assay Location
The experiment proper was carried out inside a room in the Medina Residence,
which is located at 5 Capt. Miyong St., San Roque, Marikina City, Metro Manila,
Philippines. The room experienced limited sunlight with temperatures that vary from
18В°C to 28В°C. The set up was placed on top of a table to eliminate the possibility
of animal foraging.
Species Selection
The experiment entailed the utilization of three species of plants. The first species,
Oryza sativa Linn., was preselected while the last two species were left to the
discretion of the proponent of the study. Prudent seed selection was done to ensure
the preservation of the diversity of the plant species that will be utilized for the
experiment.
O. sativa, commonly called rice, is a monocot plant. It belongs to the family of
grasses, Poaceae, and is the main source of carbohydrates in Asian countries.
Solanum melongena Linn., commonly called eggplant, in contrast is a dicot plant.
The shrub belongs to the nightshade family, Solanaceae, and is used as a source of
vitamins and minerals in tropical and temperate countries. Abelmaschus esculentus

Law Firms Face Technological Minefield to Preserve Legal Professional Privilege
True or False?
True. But not entirely, as legal practice managers can turn the answer around. Let me
explain, and then you can make up your own mind.
Electronic communications could pose a risk true
Lawyers and their clients communicate frequently. In this world of advanced
technology, these communications no longer take place just through good old
letters or via a simple phone call. They now take place largely through emails and
sometimes even via text messages or other messaging services such as Skype.
Personally, I had the experience of one client asking me a legal question over a group
WhatsApp channel. I had to (gently!) educate this client on a number of things... I
will come back to education shortly. The point I want to make here is this electronic
communications are thought by many to put at risk the confidentiality of legal
communications between a lawyer and a client. Modern communications
technologies have made what once would have been limited disclosure in a closed
environment to now easily available to pretty much anyone who has an online
presence.
Technology could help protect legal professional privilege true
For the legal profession, it is true that there is a vast array of technology that can be
used for lawyer client communication. It is also true that clients now expect to be able
to communicate via electronic means and even via social media. In this light,
Nietzsche s On The Genealogy Of Morality
In section 13 of Friedrich Nietzsche s On the Genealogy of Morality, he presents
his audience with a metaphor, That the lambs feel anger toward the great birds of
prey does not strike us as odd: but that is no reason for holding it against the great
birds of prey that they snatch up the little lambs for themselves. (Section 13, 25). In
this passage, Nietzsche details the complex relationship between the birds of prey
and the lambs. Firstly, I argue that the birds of prey represent the noble class, and the
lambs represent the slave class. This metaphor offers insight into their complex
relationship that ultimately led to a shift from noble to slave morality. Secondly, I
argue that this metaphor aids Nietzsche s broader goals in this piece by explaining the

I will show this by doing a close reading of section 13 and detailing the claims made
by Nietzsche throughout book 1.
In section 13, Nietzsche begins by saying, But let us come back: the problem of
the other origin of good, of the good one was conceived by the man of
ressentiment, demands its conclusion. (Section 13, 25). Here Nietzsche is setting
up who the lambs represent in his moral theory. He is arguing that whomever falls
under the category of the man of ressentiment is also the group who originated their
own definition of good. This group of people would be the slaves or the lambs.
When Nietzsche says, the man of ressentiment he is talking about a very specific
emotion that occurred between the lambs and the birds of prey. When the slaves saw
how powerful, noble, and war like the upper
Theme Of Ignorance In 1984 And 1984
first reason for people s slavery is our ignorance, and above all, our ignorance of
ourselves. Gurdijeff, George (p5). There are only a few things in life than damage
more than ignorance does. While many of us have heard people saying ignorance is a
bliss , however, it is just as real as boys are stronger than girls or the client is always
right . Ignorance can often involve when we lack adequate exposure to multiple
viewpoints, and when we allow another to think on our behalf, as can be observed in
Orwell s 1984 , as well as Plato s Allegory of the
Cave .
To begin with, the notion of ignorance has existed for a long time. As defined in
Cambridge Dictionary, ignorance is: lack of knowledge, understanding, or

inside of it, there are prisoners whose hands and legs have been chained since they
were born. Behind them, a fire is burning,

between the prisoners and the fire, there is a sidewalk, where different statues are

the fire, blindsided prisoners watch the shows these statues shadows play out. A
prisoner is released, he sees the fire and statues. He is confused and feels pains,
because of the light of the fire. He snatches how the shadows are caused. This
represents the belief. Next, he goes out of The Cave. At first, he is dazed and
confused. He can t see clearly, because of the light, therefore he sees the shadows,
after that the reflection on the water, and finally the objects themselves. Now, he
knows that there is more than those statues and that they were only a copy of these

Grendel Vs Beowulf Research Paper
Beowulf and Grendel, the main characters of their self titled books, are two very
different, yet very similar characters. Beowulf, whose real author is unknown, is
said to be one of the oldest pieces of English literature ever and is translated from
Old English by Seamus Heaney, tells the tale of a valiant member of the Geat people
who travels across the sea to help the Danes and King Hrothgar battle Grendel, a
vicious monstrosity who is ravaging the local area. Grendel is written by John
Gardner and tells the same tale of Beowulfs courageous attempt, while presenting
the story from Grendel s point of view, a new spin on the age old story. Point of
view plays a huge role in these stories, with Beowulf being read by a omniscient
narrator whose god like abilities seems to allow them to bounce around from the
past, present, and future. Grendel, on the other hand, is completely in first person
and rarely ventures away from that point of view, only when Grendel seems to have
the ability to read people s actions and minds without... Show more content on

Nor have I seen a mightier man at arms on this earth than the one standing here:
unless I am mistaken, he is truly noble. This is no mere hanger on in a hero s
armour, (19 Heaney). This scene shows just how majestic and heroic Beowulf is
and the point of view allows us to see what everyone is thinking in every situation,
giving us a god like view of the story. This constant input from all pieces of the
story aids the reader in seeing Beowulf as a true hero, primarily because of this
abrupt assumption by the Danish coast guard. Beowulf s grandiose image reinforces
the notion of what a hero looks and acts like and without the omniscient point of view

This piece also consists of these basic structures as well as not having any harmory

sung a cappella.
2. This piece differs from the traditional Gregorian chant of the Middle ages because
of the jumps and leaps presented in the piece, which show that the piece was written
after the period. Another reason it differs from chant is because this is plainchant
rather than Gregorian. It is also sung in English, rather than the traditional Latin text.

Pierrot by Claude Debussy
8. Claude Debussy was among the most influential composers of the late nineteenth
and early twentieth centuries. Born Achille Claude Debussy in 1862 in St. Germain
en Laye, France, his mature compositions, distinctive and appealing, combined
modernism and sensuality so successfully that their sheer beauty often obscures their
technical innovation. Debussy is considered the founder and leading exponent of
musical Impressionism (although he resisted the label), and his adoption of non
traditional scales and tonal structures was paradigmatic for many composers who
followed. The son of a shopkeeper and a seamstress, Debussy began piano studies at
the Paris Conservatory at the age of 11. While a student there, he encountered the
wealthy Nadezhda von Meck, whom was most famous as Tchaikovsky s patroness.
She employed Debussy as a music teacher to her children; through travel, concerts
and acquaintances, she provided him with a wealth of musical experience. Most
importantly, she exposed the young Debussy to the works of Russian composers,
such as Borodin and Mussorgsky, who would remain important influences on his
music. Debussy began composition studies in 1880, and
Phobia And Classical Conditioning
In general, a phobia refers to extreme [and] irrational fear reactions (Powell, Honey,
Symbaluk, 2013, p. 190). Phobias are developed through a process called classical
conditioning. Classical conditioning involves a process in which one stimulus that
does not elicit a certain response is associated with a second stimulus that does; as a
result, the first stimulus also comes to elicit a response (Powell et al., 2013, pp. 109
110).
The process of classical conditioning follows the procedure from Pavlov s salivation
experiment. Before conditioning, when a bowl of dog food is presented the dog
would naturally salivate at the mouth in response to food . Because this response
occurs automatically and prior training isn t required for hunger, this reaction is
called an unconditioned response (UCR) which is the response that is naturally
elicited by the [UCS] (Powell et al., 2013, pp. 112 115). When referring to a
natural response one is referring to an elicited reaction that is characterized as an
unlearned or innate reaction to [a] stimulus (Powell et al., 2013, p. 115).
Furthermore, the dog food is considered an unconditioned stimulus (UCS), which
is a stimulus that naturally elicits a response (Powell et al., 2013, p. 115).
According to Pavlov s experiment, when a bell chimes without the presentation of
dog food, the dog will not instinctually salivate (Powell et al., 2013, p. 112). Since
the bell didn t initially elicit salivation naturally, it s called a neutral stimulus (NS)
(Powell et al., 2013, p. 112). However, through conditioning, as the bell tone pairs
with dog food continuously, the dog begins to salivate. Finally, after the
conditioning process is completed, the pairing of food and the bell now elicits
salivation (Powell et al., 2013, p. 112). Since the dog s salivation required some type
of continual prompting or, prior training , it s reaction is considered a conditioned
response (CR) and the [bell] is the conditioned stimulus (CS). By definition, a
conditioned stimulus is any stimulus that, although initially neutral, comes to elicit a
response because it has been associated with an unconditioned stimulus (Powell et
al., 2013, p. 115). Responses triggered by a
Argumentative Essay About Dreams
So, in general dreams are a universal human experience that can be described as a
state of consciousness characterized by sensory, cognitive and emotional occurrences
during sleep. The dreamer has reduced control over the content, visual images and
activation of the memory. Dreams are full of experiences that have lifelike
connections but with vivid and bizarre twists. Whereas Nightmares are distressing
dreams that cause the dreamer to feel a number of disturbing emotions. Common
feelings include fear and anxiety. Nightmares or bad dreams occur in both adults and
children and can be caused by stress, fear, emotional problems and so on.
Interviewer: That seems like a straight forward definition. I have heard of dreams
called lucid dreams, which you can control. May I ask you to give me more
information about this type of dreams?
Ambition: Of course you can, I am here to give you information. You are right, there
is a third type of dreams named lucid dream. Lucid dreaming is a state of sleep where
the dreamer knows they are dreaming. As a result, the dreamer may have some

Experts still do not completely understand why we dream or the causes behind
dreams. There are several hypotheses and concepts as to why we dream. Are dreams
just part of the sleep cycle or do they serve some other purpose? One possible
explanation for why we dream could be that we want to represent unconscious desires
and wishes. Others say, we dream because we interpret random signals from the brain
and body during sleep. I personally believe, that dreams represent desires and wishes.
As with many things concerning the brain and unconscious thought, there is so much
that remains unknown about dreaming. Dreams are difficult to study in a laboratory.
As technology and new research techniques are developed, the understanding of
dreams will continue to

Also they can have a wide array of choices since they do not have to keep large

needs of the customer as well as offering them goods and services for profit. This
ultimately could be a way of marketing research that helps the company stayed
informed on the introduction of new products in the industry. Also Kudler needs
to make sure that their prices stay competitive to other catering services in the area.
They can offer services that may result in a higher fee; for example it will cost
more to have the meal prepared by a celebrity chef. They should be flexible with
the costs offering different meals at different costs to the customer. It cannot be
stressed enough that Kudler needs to focus on staying competitive since this is a
new service that will be added and they do not have the reputation of some other
catering companies in the area. Kudler also needs to decide if they will start off as
a small caterer only doing small parties or will they do banquets and weddings. The
difference in the location is the staffing that they will have to offer at the events as

Challenges of Business in Today s Economy

This type of financing also hinders an entrepreneur s ability for expansive growth in
the beginning stages, thus creating a restricted consumer base.
Establishing Structure of A Business
Another hurdle in starting a business is deciding what type of structure an individual
would want to run it under. The legality issues, involving debt liabilities and the
taxation of profits can provide even the savviest entrepreneur with unwanted
nuisances. Without the proper structure, not only could a business owner receive
civil liability from the IRS but criminal actions could be taken as well. Knowing
exactly what guidelines constitute for each entity available is vital for a business to
survive. (Structure) For example, a limited liability allows a proprietor to report
profits and losses on their personal income tax return, while under a corporation they
cannot. Having legal input will help tremendously in reducing the risk, but any owner
should be aware of the entity laws within their state as well.
After a businessperson establishes the corporate structure of how their business will
run, the next barrier would be the hiring of staff to keep the business running. Many
entrepreneur s in the beginning stages choose the most cost effective, stable form of
staff; doing most of the work for themselves. However for the others, the business is
just simply too large for one to handle.
This is the instance where an owner

Servant Leadership In Nonprofit Organizations
Servant leadership is best know for placing the needs and wants of others above
those of the leader; this helps to create a trusting and empowered team of followers to
help organizations reach their goals (Mahembe Engelbrecht, 2014). The servant
leadership model is able to help nonprofit organizations gain a competitive advantage
in ways that are not necessarily profit driven, such as improving employee satisfaction
and commitment to the organization (Center for Servant Leadership, n.d.). The
improvement of employee satisfaction has been linked to improved customer
satisfaction, which helps to build support for the organization (Center for Servant
Leadership, n.d.).
The value that nonprofit organizations bring to the community is professionally
appealing to me. I am currently working at a nonprofit, rural hospital and clinic
system as a registered nurse and health coach. The organization is able to obtain
payments from various insurance companies however, they do not obtain funding
from tax sources (GRMC, n.d.). Instead of raising the rates for the services offered,
the organization holds fundraisers to help fund the various projects in the community
(GRMC Donate, n.d.). The hospital also has money that is available through
donations to help individuals who are experiencing financial hardship due to illness.

Alcoholism Is Not A New Topic
Alcoholism is not a new topic. Dependence and abuse of alcohol has been the source
of constant study and research for years now. Even less unknown is alcoholism
among teenagers today. The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism
report that more adolescents use alcohol than cigarettes or marijuana, and that a
national survey in 2014 reveals how 8.7 million young people ages 12 20 reported
that they drank alcoholbeyond just a few sips in the past month. Centers for Disease

underage drinkers consume more drinks per drinking occasion than adult drinkers.
They also discovered that excessive drinking is responsible for more than 4,300

Becoming pretty and the operation itself represents alcohol, and the lesions,
alcoholism. Scott further explores this link through the two most prominent
characters, Tally Youngblood and her friend Shay.
Tally Youngblood cannot wait to turn sixteen and get the operation that will turn her
from an ugly into a pretty, where she can move into Pretty Town and worry only
about having fun. However, her friend Shay decides she would rather stay ugly and
runs away before she gets the operation herself. The authorities known as Specials
and led by Dr. Cable tell Tally that she can either find Shay and bring her back or
stay ugly forever. Initially choosing to bring Shay in, Tally realizes that she was sent
not just to find Shay, but an entire settlement of people who decided to stay ugly,
dubbed the Smoke. It is there that she also learns about the lesions, and armed with
this knowledge decides to turn her back on her old dreams of turning pretty. It is
unfortunately too little too late though, and the Specials come and destroy the
settlement. The Smoke itself lives to fight another day, but Tally and Shay are taken
back to their city and made pretty.
In the second book, Tally is living it up in Pretty Town. She hangs out with her
friend Shay and a new gang called the Crims in a constant world of partying. Tally is
not sure she is Crim material though; she constantly feels echoes of discomfort with
her life as is. The story then takes a sudden turn as Tally remembers the
The Absolutely True Diary Of A Part Time Indian By
Sherman...
In the world many people have, don t have, or think they have hope. Hope is many
different things. In The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian by Sherman
Alexie, many people have hope and many people think they don t have hope. The
Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian is about a boy named Junior and how
he finds his way in the world and how he builds his own path to find hope. He ends
up going to a school outside the Reservation where he tries to find a balance
between his two identities. Many people in this book like Junior, Mary and

a white person. One thing that he said was that whites have hope and a bright
future while Indians only have a vanishing past and a bone crushing reality. Junior
has these thoughts because everyone on the rez is always drunk and people die all
the time like how Junior has been to 42 funerals and 90% of them are from alcohol
(pages 199 and 200.) Junior ends up finding some hope at Reardon like when
everyone was cheering on Junior in the basketball game and he loved the school.
Even though Junior had a stereotype in his head that whites were the only ones with
hope he was able to defy his own laws.
Mary believes that you need a little push from someone close to follow your dream
then hope will come. Mary is the sister of Junior. When Junior left to go to
Reardon outside the rez, Mary felt a calling to follow her dream. Mary was living
in her basement for years until Junior moved. Then she made the crazy decision to
married and move to Montana (page 89.) Mary followed that calling and and found
hope in living out her dream of living a romance novel. Junior figures this out on
page 90 when he said,
How weird is that? It s almost romantic.
And then I realized that my sister was trying to LIVE a ro mance novel.
Mary had always wanted to write romance novels and she wanted to live on too.
Mary kept in touch with her family but died on page 201. Mary found hope when

As an American taxpayer I personally agree with school choice as I studied at a
public school and understand the differences between public and private education.
Parents should be able to use these state issued debit cards to decide which type of
educational institution they want to send their child to. The counterargument to this
is that taxpayers money is going back into the private trust rather than into the public
school institution. School choice means providing this funding for low income
students who live in school zones with lower quality schools. If a family can, with
these state issued cards, send their child to private school, then they should be able to
do so as it provides a great opportunity for advancement. In this regard, school
choice is a vehicle to help improve inner cities and to provide options particularly
for low income families trapped in failing schools (Swaby). However, any person in
charge of the education system, especially the newly appointed Betsy DeVos, should
have a very extensive background in education and should have ... Show more content

diversity and different perspectives into an educational board, it simply doesn t seem
right that they are controlling educational services if they have little to no hands on

beautiful princess. Her parents casted her away because she was cursed by an evil
witch, by night one way, by day another thus shall be the norm till you receive true

handsome prince, the curse would be broken, and they would live happily ever after.
At least that is what the storybook says, but in actuality, that is not how this story
goes. Shrek2 breaks the typical stereotype of princess animated films by showing
children a better definition of happily ever after, making Fiona a strong character,
and having a diverse character cast. Behind every good story, there is typically...

Celtic Cross
A cross having essentially the form of a Latin cross with a ring about the
intersection of the crossbar and upright and shaft (CITE HERE). From the outside
looking in, that is what a Celtic cross would appear to be, but the cross has a deeper
meaning than just it s looks. The origin of the Celtic cross was unknown but the Irish
believe it was founded by Saint Patrick because he was trying to convert the citizens
of Ireland to Christianity. There were multiple theories behind the origin, however,
the most recognized theory was that St. Patrick merged the sun cross and a regular
cross to give new supporters a way to keep their old religion and make the transition
to Christianity easier. The importance of the sun cross was that it held life giving
properties from the sun. Before Christianity, the people in Ireland believed in many
different gods and St. Patrick wanted them to worship one God. By combining these
two crosses, St. Patrick was able to get the Pagan people to become followers of
Christianity. The Celtic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Livestock Grazing Can Affect The Watershed Properties
By...
Livestock grazing can affect the watershed properties by altering plant cover and by
compaction of the livestock s hooves. Reductions in the vegetation cover may:
increase the impact of raindrops, decrease soil organic matter and soil aggregates,
increase surface soil crusts, and decrease water infiltration rates [2]. These effects can
cause an increase in runoff, a reduction in soilwater content, and increased erosion.
The impacts of grazing can vary naturally, but it mainly depends on the area and time,
due to climate, vegetation, intensity and duration of livestock. There are few studies
that have attempted to justify the natural variations. Documentation of the power and
duration of grazing has been poorly or completely disregarded [2].
Water is one of the most important products derived from rangelands and forests.
The forests and watersheds should be viewed as watersheds and secondarily for
their food, forage, wood, wildlife, and social. Watersheds are very diverse in their
natural erosion, high flooding rate behavior, and high amounts of sediments. In
some areas, plant cover and soil layers have not developed appropriately to make an
influence on how water is generated from the land. For more extensive areas, plant
cover and soil mantle have developed to exert a high degree of control on the
reception and disposition of precipitation. Low rates of erosion, normally moderate
peak stream discharges, normally small sediment loads, and optimum infiltration are

The Iranian Language Essay
Today the Iranian languages are spoken from Central Turkey, Syria and Iraq in the
west to Pakistan and the western edge of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of

The later Iranians moved into and across the Iranian plateau, both carrying the new
social structure with their languages, with a lasting impact on the socio political

The Iranians on their part can probably be correlated with the subsequent so called
Yaz I culture in the BMAC complex, which reflects major cultural changes towards a
more rural society after 1 500 BCE. They apparently remained in Central Asia, and
only by the end of the second millennium BCE began to spread over the Iranian
plateau. By the second half of the eighth century BCE, Iranian Median and Persian
tribes (Mada and Parswa) had already been long established among the original non
Iranian speakers of the Zagros mountain ranges of Iranian Kurdestan, according to
the records of the Assyrian ruler Shalmaneser III (r. 858 824 BCE). Minorsky

the Sasanian period (224 6 5 1 CE) and thereafter, ultimately resulted in the
dominance of Persian over the Iranian expanse.

Music Hip Hop Getting a Bad Rap Among many problems in society today, rap
music is being blamed for the confusion of America s youths. One key problem is
the way a child is raised. Not having a positive role model can have a powerful effect
on a child. The other dilemma is the type of rap music. Gangsterrapper s lyrics seem
to corrupt and have a negative image on a youth s mind. Two possible steps to

attitudes of America s impressionable youths; people need to step up and talk back
to the gangsters like Queen Latifah did in her song U.N.I.T.Y where she tells

Descriptive Essay On Candy
Being a young boy, I wasn t the brightest light bulb in the ceiling. I was the kind of
kid that could get good grades, but when told to put an ice bag in the freezer, I
accidently put it in the fridge. A person that would go to a parade, and take the good
pieces of candy that they threw. It was not one of the smartest things I ve done in my
life. At this parade, I would steal candy, go to the nearby park, and play tennis. At the
parade, things were starting off very slow. It was very boring for me as a kid, so I
had to try to entertain myself. One of the first things I tried doing at this parade
was try to spider climb up the wall of a building. The roughness of the bricks I
would try to grab would cut my small, fragile fingers and then the blood would start
pouring out. I knew that if I was in the ocean, a shark would smell it from miles
away and gobble me up as if I was a turtle. The boredom was eating me to death, but
then I noticed that they were throwing candy at the crowd. I ran up to get some, so
excited to put the delicious pieces of sugar into my mouth. After getting an absurd
amount of candy, I saw my favorite type; a Hershey s chocolate bar. As I was
running to get it, I saw a little kid was about to grab the delicious tantalizing
chocolate bar(probably about 6 or 7 years old), I snatched it from his mitts. I then
realised my step dad, Brian, watched me do that, scolded me then told me to go back
over there and give it to the 6 year old. After that incident I

Even though I will most likely have to take a full year off from my college classes

Sometimes the hours overlap and I am forced to leave my internshipearly. On Fridays

The Boom Of Dystopian Literature
Dystopian literature established the basis of a modern day science fiction novel
manuscripts reflecting a merge between previous books and today society conflicts.
Critics determined that twenty century culture conflicts and deterioration open the
door for the writer s imagination determining the parameters to develop a dystopian
society mostly similar to the actual. The boom of dystopian novels and works was
the response of a government crisis, worldwide conflicts and society oppression due
to the loss of hope and a chaotic loneliness. For the reader and writers, dystopiais not
a far destiny, on the contrary, is what they are living in the past, present and

Black Masculinity And The Black Of A Black Boy s Life
Throughout the matriculation of a black boy s life, there are many, (labeled natural,
yet are culturally, socially and institutionally based) factors, that govern the holistic
views and beliefs entailed to the child. From that moment on, challenging the social
structures that these norms entail suggest a sense of sensitivity, homosexualityor
weakness, ultimately emasculating the highly regarded social stigmas attached with
being a man. Despite being indoctrinated into the minds of black boys from an early
age, there are many long lasting effects of masculinity that are in turn reciprocated in
the role of black fathers, husbands, brothers and friends. Black masculinity is the self
deteriorating idealisms that attack the identity and social positions black men ascribe
to.
The identity of the black man is the most crucial element attacked by black
masculinity. Stemming from a limited variety of acceptable self expression, black
masculinity emphasizes the need for an overly tough outer appearance while
internally suppressing emotions of fear and sadness. These notions are particularly
vivid in mainstream hip hop culture. In Byron Hurt s Hip hop Beyond Beats and
Rhymes, Hurt sits down with some of the industries most respected artist who attest
that anything nonhood will dilute [their] toughness. Nonhood suggesting outwardly

The most important thing to remember when using a salary survey is that in order for
the information to be valid you should only compare a specific job position to the
same position, with in the local area and similar industry. Also you want to ensure
you understand what the salary survey is conveying. Does it include benefits,
bonuses, and other forms of compensation that are not covered by the basic salary?
Many employee benefits packages include the basic, retirement plan, medical,
dental and or life insurances. But they do not have to be so cut and dry. With the
job market currently so competitive, employers are coming up with new and
creative benefit packages. Some include on site daycare for working families,

even feasible to offer every benefit to your employees. For the Plastec Company,

different ways this program can work. First is that the employee elects to have a

the crowd levels at the parks to not be so bad, or, if schools are out already for the
summer, the crowds will be worse. Certain times of the year can also affect the cost

Flat Iron Mesa in San Juan County
Flat Iron Mesa is located in the heart of the Moab and Canyonlands area and enters
San Juan County. It is surrounded by the Hatch Wash Canyon to the west and the La
Sal mountain range towards the east. The vast features of the mesa and surrounding
canyons demonstrate the remarkable effects of millions of years of erosion on a
landscape of mostly sedimentary rock. The mesa s extensive landscape is covered
with biological soil crust as well as an abundance of ephemeral pools. The potholes
throughout the mesa are naturally occurring basins in deposits of sandstone that
progressively collect rainwater and wind blown sedimentwhich gradually erode the
underlying rock; leaving a series of circular impressions along the mesa s floor.
Weathering, geologic processes such as erosion, and climatic shifts allow for this
immense desert ecosystem to continually evolve and change which has taken place
for millions of years. This geologically wealthy environment is composed of
alternating flat lying layers of soft and hard deposits of mostly sedimentary rocks.
Interchanging slopes and cliffs along the landscape helped form these layers of
rock which can be seen fully exposed in areas of the mesa. Deposition of this
landscape mainly occurred during the Permian, Pennsylvanian, Triassic and Jurassic
time periods. The assortment of warm hues of sandstone were produced by varying
levels of iron oxide minerals during formation. For hundreds of millions of years,
geologic material
Negative And Negative Effects Of Marijuana
Negatives of Marijuana Marijuana is a dangerous drug and should not be
legalized. Marijuana can damage lungs, it can affect cardiovascular shape and it
puts you at higher risk for heart attack or stroke, raises blood pressure and many
other harmful effects. You can also end up getting addicted to marijuana
(Watson4). It s a very dangerous drug especially if driving. There are many DUI s
and deadly accidents that are marijuana related each year (gray1). That s why
marijuana is illegal in almost every state. Nevertheless, the number of teenagers
partaking in marijuana does appear to be on the rise, at least partially due to a
reduced perception of risk among teens who have been following the various legal
debates around the country around legalization of medicinal and recreational
marijuana. Noelle swan (Christian Science Monitor2). Although Marijuana is
dangerous it doesn t seem to stop any one from using it. Marijuana is the most
common used drug in the United States and polls show that Americans are in favor
of marijuana (congressional digest1). It has various slang names such as; weed, pot,
grass, ganja, bud, herb, and many more. In two states recreational marijuana is legal
and twenty eight states medical marijuana and legal in two states for recreation use

years ago. Some strains of marijuana are found to be up to seven times stronger than
decades ago (Harvard Heart1). There is even
The Limited Liability Partnership ( Llp )
The limited liability partnership (LLP) is another type of partnership. LLP is a
partnership consisting of one or more general partners and one or more limited
partners (p. 554). It was created to limit the personal liability of the partners of
losing their personal assets to only their own acts and omissions and to the acts and
omissions of people under their supervision (Nickels, McHugh, McHugh, 2013, p.
119). This business form also allows a partnership to continue as a pass through
entity for tax purposes (Miller, 2014, p. 554). However, limited liability partnershipis
not recognized as a legal business structure in every state, unlike the general
partnership, In addition, taxing authorities in some states recognize the... Show more

A large corporation with numerous resources can take benefit of opportunities
anywhere in the world. We also find the ability to raise capital through the sale of
their stocks and bonds, and they have continuous life, unlike sole proprietorships or
partnerships. Another advantage of corporations is the ease of attracting talented
employees and the separation of ownership and management. There is also the ease
of ownership change, which means that change does not affect management along
with a great fringe benefit with fewer taxes.
The disadvantages of corporations include the initial cost of establishing a
corporation is expensive, and the process requires more time and money compared
to other types. There is also the challenge of the extensive paperwork and more state
and federal rules and regulations. They have to comply with many more
requirements and administrative documents to demonstrate compliance. We also find
double taxation; tax on the income before it can distribute any to stockholders and
then stockholders pay income tax on the dividends they receive. Also, the owners
need to file both a corporate tax return and an individual tax return. The large
corporations sometimes become too inflexible to respond quickly to market changes
because of their size and the possible conflict with stockholders and board of
directors. Moreover, we find a great difficulty to terminate the business
Free Will In Oedipus The King
Every action someone takes and choices he or she makes leads to their future.
According to the idea of fate, there is a development of events in every person s
life that is beyond their control and is certain to happen. One view of fate is that the
choices a person makes leads to their fate. Each action of theirs changes their fate
from the previous one. However, the other view is that no matter the choices a
person makes or actions they take, their fate is predetermined and cannot be changed.
A person s fate is preset and nothing they do can change that. All the choices they
make lead to that destiny. In the play Oedipus the King, the author, Sophocles,
challenges the idea of fate versus free will. Is fate set or does free will exist? Can one
s choices change the outcome of their fate, or is their destiny set from their birth? In
Oedipuslife fate was stronger than choice and freewill. From the beginning,
everything Oedipus did to avoid his fate led to his tragic end. Choices and actions
made all lead to the preset destiny. Throughout Oedipus the King, King Laius
receives a prophecy stating that he was to have a son that would end up killing him.
Jocasta, later in the story, explains what Laius was told of his future, An oracle came
to Laius once...that the doom should overtake him to... Show more content on

Oedipus, once he learned of his destiny, decided to move as far away as possible
from his father. This is where fate shows it has control. By leaving his parents,
Oedipus believed he could prevent his fate, however, his lack of knowledge on his
adoptive parents was fate at work. Laius s previous decisions led to Oedipus having
adoptive parents, which in turn led to Oedipus leaving his home to prevent his
destiny. By leaving, Oedipus walked straight into his fate. Oedipus then murdered his
father in a street brawl, completing Laius prophecy, and the first part of his
The Effects Of Homelessness On The Homeless Population
History of Homelessness
The term to describe the homeless may have changed over time, however the issue of
housing insecurity has remained for some Americans throughout history (Kusmer,
2001). Although the homeless population has always maintained in the United States,
homelessness became a national issue in 1870 with the emergence of the tramp :
these were men that banded together, rode trains illegally and had negative
interactions with law enforcement (2001). The movement of the homeless from
location to location changed after World War II, and after the 1940s the homeless
were typically confined to urban areas (2001). This urbanization of the homeless
population continued throughout the remainder of the century.
Public awareness of homelessness regained momentum in the early 1980s after the
recession. At the time, the issue was considered temporary and only impacted
certain populations that were more vulnerable. Once the economy improved,
homelessness would no longer be as issue (Rosenheck, 1994). The perception at the
time was that the government safety net would assist these people, and that the
homeless were deviants that chose to live outside of society s idea of normal
(1994). A demographic change occurred during this time period: the homeless
population before the resurgence of homeless as a social problem the in early 1980s,
were much older than those seen during the 1980s and beyond (Kusmer, 2001).
Women and their children became a larger proportion of the

Women During The Nineteenth Century Essay
Women began standing up for themselves using literature in the nineteenth century.
The time periods of the feminism booms were called waves. There are three waves of
feminism starting from the nineteenth century to now. They all occurred in the
United Kingdom, Britain, France, and the United States. These waves lead to women
getting closer to being treated equal to men.
The first wave was in the United Kingdom and the United States within the nineteenth
century to the early twentieth century. This time focused on the equal rights and
property rights for women. Towards the end of the twentieth century, activism set
their focus on gaining political power. Britain passed The Representation of the
People Act 1918 allowing women that owned houses to vote over the age of thirty.
The United States had women fighting for the equal rights of men and women, such
as, Lucy Stone, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, and Susan B. Anthony. In 1919, the
nineteenth amendment allowing women to vote, was believed to have ended the first
wave of feminism.
In the early 1960s and the late 1980s, the second wave occurred in the United
Kingdom and United States, like the first wave. The second wave was focused on
equality. In 1966, the quote Women s Liberation, was first printed in public. These
feminist in this period went as far as bra burning to tell the world that woman and
men should have equal rights.
In the third wave, feminists focused on challenging the second wave s strategy. The

Comparison of Different Types of Blood Pumps
Comparison of different types of blood pumps
Nowadays, there are two main types of blood pumps: kinetic pumps and positive
displacement pumps.
Kinetic pumps:
Centrifugal pump is one of the most familiar kinetic pumps. A centrifugal pump
converts the input power to kinetic energy in the liquid by accelerating the liquid by a
revolving device an impeller. The most common type is the volute pump. Fluid enters
the pump through the eye of the impeller which rotates at high speed. The fluid is
accelerated radically outward from the pump chasing. A vacuum is created at the
impellers eye that continuously draws more fluid into the pump. The energy created
by the pump is kinetic energy according the Bernoulli Equation. The energy

Magical Realism and the Sublime in The Monkey
Magical Realism and the Sublime in The Monkey
The Monkey is a short story written by Isak Dinesen. The story was published in
1934. The Monkey is a form of gothic sublime. In this story, I encountered many
elements that related to magical realism as well as the sublime.
The Monkey has many magical elements. The beginning of the story mentioned a
purple eyed young fallow deer (109). The element appears to me as being a magical
element rather than an element of the sublime. Another magical element was the
tortoise being more than one hundred years old (109). A person knows that no
tortoise is capable of living to be more than one hundred years old. Aunt Cathinka
says that she will give Boris her experience of life ... Show more content on

According to Longinus, noble imagery is used to convey the sublime. Her luminous
eyes met his, and made him look away, and this dumb play was repeated twice over.
(114). The sublime element was an element of imagery. The woman and man s
attention was caught by each other s appearance that it took them a while to get back
to what they were doing.
Edmund Burke characterized the sublime as causing astonishment. In The Monkey ,
Boris said he could follow his aunts thoughts without looking at her (116). I feel that
this element of sublime is one of astonishment. The fact was so amazing that Boris
was so close to his aunt that he could follow what she was thinking without any sight
of her around.
In The Fantastic Sublime, Weiskel describes the sublime as beginning with a
contemplated object that is considered sublime when the attempt to represent it
determines the mind to regard its inability to grasp wholly the object as a symbol of
the mind s relation to a trandscent order. (51). Sublime literature has many elements
that are hard to grasp on to fully. Sublime can be something that will happen so fast
when someone tries to remember what occurred, they cannot.
In The Fantastic Sublime, Weiskel describes the structure of the sublime as divided
into three stages. The first phase is that the mind is determinate, habitual relationship
with the contemplated object. The second phase is experienced by the tearing of a
Persuasive Speech On Owning A Dog
In 2000, 68 million dogs were owned in the United States. In 2017, a total of
around 89.7 million dogs in the United States alone, lived in a household. As the
years past more and more people are adopting dogs. Some of those owners are new to
having a pet and should learn how to take care of them. The first step of taking care
of a dog, after of course owning a dog, is feeding him/her. First you need need to
research what food brand is most beneficial for your dog s breed. The brand you
choose should be the only brand of food you feed your dog because they have
sensitive stomachs meaning their food diets shouldn t be changed often. When
changed it should be a gradual transfer. After picking the best brand decide on what
size meal you feed them. Different sizes need different amounts each day. Small
dogs need around one cup, medium dogs need two cups, large dogs need around
three cups, and extra large dogs need around four cups. It s healthier for your dog
to be feed twice a day, in the morning when they wake up and in the afternoon.
Never feed them anything that isn t dog food or treats because they have very
sensitive stomachs and can t some human foods.. Always make sure your dogs has
fresh clean water throughout the day. Second step is exercising. Different size
dogs need different amounts of exercise. The bigger the dog the more exercise they
need. Small dogs only need short walks twice a day. Medium dogs need a long walk
or run twice a day also. Large and extra
Peer to Peer Piracy and the Film Industry Essay
Peer to Peer Piracy and the Film Industry
Introduction
Each day an estimated 400,000 films exchange hands through the Internet. Movie
piracy, once reserved to pirate syndicates and illegal duplication factories, has become
a common staple among college students with high speed internet access. With
advanced compression technology, movie files can be transferred across continents in
hours and across campus networks in under ten minutes. File sharing is seen as a
victimless crime, but the motion picture industry is expected to lose $3.5 billion this
year alone due to piracy. Pirate activities undermine every aspect of the legitimate
filmmaking business since legitimate retailers cannot possibly compete fairly with
pirate business. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This carefully planned release of the film to different markets is known as
distribution windows, and is essential to the survival of the film industry. If a film is
pirated at any point, the worth of that film can be fatally depleted long before it can
retrieve its initial investment.
Film Releases
There are generally two critical points in a film s distribution window where it can
be pirated: in theatres, and retail DVDs. The most important release for a film is its
theatrical release. A movie can earn back close to half of its budget in its opening
weekend. However, the film can be pirated in two ways. Pirates can use hand held
video cameras to record films off of theater screens and then copy these films onto
other medias. Another method of piracy involves the theft of the film print from a
theater. This type of theft allows the pirate to make a relatively high quality copy
from the theatrical print, which then serves as the master for the duplication of
unauthorized copies. These illicit copies are not only distributed to pirates in the US,
but also shipped overseas and distributed through illegal channels even before the
film s international theatrical release, cannibalizing a film s opening weekend
returns. These copies are usually encoded and transferred over the Internet as well as
through peer to peer networks.
The second critical point is copies from retail DVDs. Before DVDs are sold to the
public, production facilities churn out a
Eudora Welty s A Worn Path
Introduction
James Saunders wrote an interesting article A Worn Path The Eternal Quest of Welty
s Phoenix Jackson (The Southern Literary Journal 25.1, Fall 1992: p62 73.) that not
only analyzed Eudora Welty s A Worn Path (The Collected Works of Eudora Welty)
from his perspective but also included the perspectives of other authors which makes
his article an excellent source for interpretations of A Worn Path.
Summary
Saunders article summarizes Phoenix Jackson as a symbol of the Christian religion
and articulates the interpretation that her journey has biblical meaning. She is also
compared to the mythical phoenix. Saunders own view of Phoenix Jackson was
that she was a symbol for racial equality, who through love, perseverance and being
one with nature displayed that symbolism. In my own paper Character Analysis of
Phoenix Jackson (21 April 2106, unpublished paper) I saw Phoenix as a symbol of
the hardships of being black in the South prior to the civil rights movement and the
social, racial and economic adversity that needed to be overcome.
Thesis
My argument finds strong support in Saunders article, his analysis of it being
essential that Phoenix Jackson is black. The crucial comparison between Phoenix
Jackson and the mythical Phoenix, and his reminder of the social climate when
Welty wrote her story (Saunders) all reinforce my theory that Phoenix Jackson
symbolized social, racial and economic adversity from the 1860s to 1960s. (1)

Pearl Harbor Chapter 25
Chapter 25 in Call to Freedom needs to include more information on the attack of
Pearl Harbor. It was a major moment in US history and will not be forgotten. It
needs to talk more about what the US did to make Japan so mad because it was the
start of Pearl Harbor. It also needs to talk about the attack itself, chapter 25 has a
few sentences and then it moves on. The last topic it needs to include about how
and what Japan planned to do at Pearl Harbor. All of these topics are an important
part of history and should be taught to students everywhere. To start, chapter 25
needs to include more about the U.S actions that made Japan so angry. The
textbook briefly describes what the U.S did to Japan, but not enough to teach the
reader. A fact that chapter 25 needs is that Japan was going to declare war on
China and the U.S was not a supporter of that idea. Japan had also recently became

A sentence or two is dedicated to this subject, but doesn t really even cover the
basics. An interesting fact, that could be really helpful, is that a foreign submarine
was found at the entrance of Pearl Harbor earlier that day. This was part of the
masterminded plan because they were able to monitor Pearl Harbor and get in
once the bombs were dropped. When Japan attacked, they had fighter planes fly
through the sky dropping bombs on US ships. The fighter planes were so
important because it helped take the attention to the sky so the submarines and
boats could attempt to get in. It also was really helpful because they did a lot of
damage and is a huge part of why Japan was so successful. If you think about it,
Japan would have never been able to attack if they did not plan it. Isoroku Yamamoto
was the man who planned Pearl Harbor, with out him this attack wouldn t have been

Marketing is challenging for Wilkerson because they are no longer holding a
competitive advantage in the valve product line, nor are they price leaders in the
pump line.
2. Considering your answer to item 1, the first three exhibits, and related introductory
discussion, is it likely that the accounting system may distort product profit
significantly? Why? (Ignore general, selling, and admin expense.)
Wilkerson employs a Normal Cost System, which means that they use predetermined
overhead rates along with actual costs for direct material and direct labor. Normal
costing systems are appropriate when overhead costs are a relatively small percentage
of total manufacturing costs and product diversity is limited. For Wilkerson, normal
costing does not make sense. Overhead costs make up over 50 percent of total
manufacturing costs and their product offering is relatively more diverse. This
indicates that the current accounting system in place may be distorting costs
significantly. Supporting data:
| Cost Profile Snapshot| DL| 271,250 | 17.67%| DM| 458,000 | 29.83%| MOH|
806,000 | 52.50%| | $1,535,250 | |
3. Briefly describe how the current production cost assignment system works. What
are the consumption ratios (activity percentages) for assigning manufacturing
overhead to each product at present?
The current MOH is allocated as a percentage of

11/20/2014
Introduction
This experiment was about identifying the unknown microorganism given by the
instructor. This exercise is important to understand and apply all previous laboratory
practices, as well as those learned in our first unknown exercise, for identifying the
given unknown organism. With the knowledge and practice of performing
biochemical and physiological identifying tests, I was able to determine the unknown
bacteria. For this experiment, I was given Unknown #12 and used a series of tests to
determine the specimen, further explained in this report.
Materials and Methods
For the Gram stain, I used a microscope slide, wash bottle of water, clothespin, and
the reagents crystal violet, Gram s iodine, ethyl alcohol, and safranin to observe
whether the organism was Gram negative or positve. The method was placing and
heat fixing a loopful of the unknown organism on the slide. The organisms were
then stained with crystal violet for a minute, rinsed off, flooded with iodine for a
minute, rinsed off, decolorized with alcohol for 30 seconds, and then finally stained
with the counter stain, safranin, for a minute. I streaked the unknown onto a TSA
plate and incubated at 35 C. With a pure colony, we performed a second gram stain
procedure and inoculated it into a TSA slant. I used BCP Lactose broth and a loop
to perform a BCP Lactose test. The broth was inoculated with a loopful of the
unknown and incubated

  • 2. NASA Budget Essay Every year NASA is given a large budget from the government. This budget is to pay for all the different projects and different sectors inside of NASA. Over the many years that NASA has been an organization the budget has gone up and down depending on the economy. With the budget decreasing there has to be a decision what sectors must be cut to stay on budget. One area that has been decreased significantly year after year is the education sector. In 2016, they were given $115 million and the projected 2017 budget is only $100 million.1 The education sector focuses its work on students of all levels. NASA also creates educational resources for different levels of educators. NASA believes, As the United States begins the second century of flight, the Nation must maintain its commitment to excellence in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics education to ensure that the next generation of Americans can accept the full measure of their roles and responsibilities in shaping the future. 2 This leading to NASA s creation of the STEM system as well as many other opportunities for students all over the nation. ... The little act of defiance gives me a drop of hope. When I was 15, I was given an arranged marriage to a 32 year old fan maker named Abd Al Rashid. My family anticipated that now I was liberated from the poverty stricken life that had plagued us for centuries. I felt anything but liberated. Tension gripped my stomach as the day crept closer and eventually it came. It was the day that I would leave my family and everything I had grown to love. • 5. High Costs Related to Drug Use Essay DRUG USE RELATED COSTS Background of the problem It is known that the major economic costs from drugs use are due to incarcerations and crime rather than to drug use itself (Keefer, Loayza, Soares, 2010). In Colombia, it is estimated that 20% of the cocaine and 70% of the marijuana produced is consumed domestically (Cawley, 2013), most of it in underground spots called ollas. The gathering of drug traffickers, addicts, and criminals in these places has spawned crime and insecurity in all cities. The Colombian government has tried some measures to reduce these externalities of drug use, but they have not been enough nor adequate. In 2012, possession and consumption of minimal doses of marijuana and cocaine were decriminalized1. This was... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Policy options to reduce drug use related crime There are three main policies that could be considered in order to tackle ollas and the crime related costs they generate. 1. Continue intervening ollas The government could foster the Operation Green Heart to intervene ollas, just as the President announced it would do (Cawley, 2013). But this strategy would be ineffective and may even cause larger harms. Until now the strategy has not shown real long term remarkable results in reducing crime and consumption. At most, it has only created a balloon effect displacing ollas a few blocks temporarily; time after the intervention, when police and public employees are gone, dealers and consumers come back. Furthermore, intervening big ollas could have split some of them geographically into smaller ones, making the situation even worse (FIP, 2013). The operation captured 1.843 people participating in drug trafficking, including 42 important drug lords. Despite these captures, distribution networks remain intact because gangs have found replacements to reestablish their chain easily (FIP, 2013). There has been no effect on the supply of drugs, but a massive incarceration of minor drug dealers. Given the results so far, and considering that there are more than 3.000 ollas identified of which just 25 were raid last year when the operation began, there is no evidence

But not entirely, as legal practice managers can turn the answer around. Let me explain, and then you can make up your own mind. Electronic communications could pose a risk true Lawyers and their clients communicate frequently. In this world of advanced technology, these communications no longer take place just through good old letters or via a simple phone call. They now take place largely through emails and sometimes even via text messages or other messaging services such as Skype. Personally, I had the experience of one client asking me a legal question over a group WhatsApp channel. I had to (gently!) educate this client on a number of things... I will come back to education shortly. The point I want to make here is this electronic communications are thought by many to put at risk the confidentiality of legal communications between a lawyer and a client. Modern communications technologies have made what once would have been limited disclosure in a closed environment to now easily available to pretty much anyone who has an online presence. Technology could help protect legal professional privilege true For the legal profession, it is true that there is a vast array of technology that can be used for lawyer client communication. It is also true that clients now expect to be able to communicate via electronic means and even via social media. In this light,
  • 10. Nietzsche s On The Genealogy Of Morality In section 13 of Friedrich Nietzsche s On the Genealogy of Morality, he presents his audience with a metaphor, That the lambs feel anger toward the great birds of prey does not strike us as odd: but that is no reason for holding it against the great birds of prey that they snatch up the little lambs for themselves. (Section 13, 25). In this passage, Nietzsche details the complex relationship between the birds of prey and the lambs. Firstly, I argue that the birds of prey represent the noble class, and the lambs represent the slave class. This metaphor offers insight into their complex relationship that ultimately led to a shift from noble to slave morality. Secondly, I argue that this metaphor aids Nietzsche s broader goals in this piece by explaining the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In section 13, Nietzsche begins by saying, But let us come back: the problem of the other origin of good, of the good one was conceived by the man of ressentiment, demands its conclusion. (Section 13, 25). Here Nietzsche is setting up who the lambs represent in his moral theory. He is arguing that whomever falls under the category of the man of ressentiment is also the group who originated their own definition of good. This group of people would be the slaves or the lambs. When Nietzsche says, the man of ressentiment he is talking about a very specific emotion that occurred between the lambs and the birds of prey. When the slaves saw how powerful, noble, and war like the upper

There are only a few things in life than damage more than ignorance does. While many of us have heard people saying ignorance is a bliss , however, it is just as real as boys are stronger than girls or the client is always right . Ignorance can often involve when we lack adequate exposure to multiple viewpoints, and when we allow another to think on our behalf, as can be observed in Orwell s 1984 , as well as Plato s Allegory of the Cave . To begin with, the notion of ignorance has existed for a long time. As defined in Cambridge Dictionary, ignorance is: lack of knowledge, understanding, or information about ... He is confused and feels pains, because of the light of the fire. He snatches how the shadows are caused. This represents the belief. Next, he goes out of The Cave. At first, he is dazed and confused. He can t see clearly, because of the light, therefore he sees the shadows, after that the reflection on the water, and finally the objects themselves. • 12. Grendel Vs Beowulf Research Paper Beowulf and Grendel, the main characters of their self titled books, are two very different, yet very similar characters. Beowulf, whose real author is unknown, is said to be one of the oldest pieces of English literature ever and is translated from Old English by Seamus Heaney, tells the tale of a valiant member of the Geat people who travels across the sea to help the Danes and King Hrothgar battle Grendel, a vicious monstrosity who is ravaging the local area. Grendel is written by John Gardner and tells the same tale of Beowulfs courageous attempt, while presenting the story from Grendel s point of view, a new spin on the age old story. Point of view plays a huge role in these stories, with Beowulf being read by a omniscient narrator whose god like abilities seems to allow them to bounce around from the past, present, and future. Grendel, on the other hand, is completely in first person and rarely ventures away from that point of view, only when Grendel seems to have the ability to read people s actions and minds without... Born Achille Claude Debussy in 1862 in St. Germain en Laye, France, his mature compositions, distinctive and appealing, combined modernism and sensuality so successfully that their sheer beauty often obscures their technical innovation. Debussy is considered the founder and leading exponent of musical Impressionism (although he resisted the label), and his adoption of non traditional scales and tonal structures was paradigmatic for many composers who followed. The son of a shopkeeper and a seamstress, Debussy began piano studies at the Paris Conservatory at the age of 11. While a student there, he encountered the wealthy Nadezhda von Meck, whom was most famous as Tchaikovsky s patroness. She employed Debussy as a music teacher to her children; through travel, concerts and acquaintances, she provided him with a wealth of musical experience. Most importantly, she exposed the young Debussy to the works of Russian composers, such as Borodin and Mussorgsky, who would remain important influences on his music. Debussy began composition studies in 1880, and
  • 14. Phobia And Classical Conditioning In general, a phobia refers to extreme [and] irrational fear reactions (Powell, Honey, Symbaluk, 2013, p. 190). Phobias are developed through a process called classical conditioning. Classical conditioning involves a process in which one stimulus that does not elicit a certain response is associated with a second stimulus that does; as a result, the first stimulus also comes to elicit a response (Powell et al., 2013, pp. 109 110). The process of classical conditioning follows the procedure from Pavlov s salivation experiment. Before conditioning, when a bowl of dog food is presented the dog would naturally salivate at the mouth in response to food . Because this response occurs automatically and prior training isn t required for hunger, this reaction is called an unconditioned response (UCR) which is the response that is naturally elicited by the [UCS] (Powell et al., 2013, pp. 112 115). When referring to a natural response one is referring to an elicited reaction that is characterized as an unlearned or innate reaction to [a] stimulus (Powell et al., 2013, p. 115). Furthermore, the dog food is considered an unconditioned stimulus (UCS), which is a stimulus that naturally elicits a response (Powell et al., 2013, p. 115). According to Pavlov s experiment, when a bell chimes without the presentation of dog food, the dog will not instinctually salivate (Powell et al., 2013, p. 112). Since the bell didn t initially elicit salivation naturally, it s called a neutral stimulus (NS) (Powell et al., 2013, p. 112). However, through conditioning, as the bell tone pairs with dog food continuously, the dog begins to salivate. Finally, after the conditioning process is completed, the pairing of food and the bell now elicits salivation (Powell et al., 2013, p. 112). Since the dog s salivation required some type of continual prompting or, prior training , it s reaction is considered a conditioned response (CR) and the [bell] is the conditioned stimulus (CS). By definition, a conditioned stimulus is any stimulus that, although initially neutral, comes to elicit a response because it has been associated with an unconditioned stimulus (Powell et al., 2013, p. 115). Responses triggered by a

My left hand reaches something else. This one s not a bottle of liquor or beer or any other alcoholic beverage. This feels oddly familiar. I brush

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This type of financing also hinders an entrepreneur s ability for expansive growth in the beginning stages, thus creating a restricted consumer base. Establishing Structure of A Business Another hurdle in starting a business is deciding what type of structure an individual would want to run it under. The legality issues, involving debt liabilities and the taxation of profits can provide even the savviest entrepreneur with unwanted nuisances. Without the proper structure, not only could a business owner receive civil liability from the IRS but criminal actions could be taken as well. Knowing exactly what guidelines constitute for each entity available is vital for a business to survive. (Structure) For example, a limited liability allows a proprietor to report profits and losses on their personal income tax return, while under a corporation they cannot. Having legal input will help tremendously in reducing the risk, but any owner should be aware of the entity laws within their state as well. After a businessperson establishes the corporate structure of how their business will run, the next barrier would be the hiring of staff to keep the business running. Many entrepreneur s in the beginning stages choose the most cost effective, stable form of staff; doing most of the work for themselves. However for the others, the business is just simply too large for one to handle. This is the instance where an owner

Servant Leadership In Nonprofit Organizations Servant leadership is best know for placing the needs and wants of others above those of the leader; this helps to create a trusting and empowered team of followers to help organizations reach their goals (Mahembe Engelbrecht, 2014). The servant leadership model is able to help nonprofit organizations gain a competitive advantage in ways that are not necessarily profit driven, such as improving employee satisfaction and commitment to the organization (Center for Servant Leadership, n.d.). School Choice Argument Paper School Choice Argument Paper Client s Name Institutional Affiliation As an American taxpayer I personally agree with school choice as I studied at a public school and understand the differences between public and private education. Parents should be able to use these state issued debit cards to decide which type of educational institution they want to send their child to. The counterargument to this is that taxpayers money is going back into the private trust rather than into the public school institution. School choice means providing this funding for low income students who live in school zones with lower quality schools. If a family can, with these state issued cards, send their child to private school, then they should be able to do so as it provides a great opportunity for advancement. In this regard, school choice is a vehicle to help improve inner cities and to provide options particularly for low income families trapped in failing schools (Swaby). The origin of the Celtic cross was unknown but the Irish believe it was founded by Saint Patrick because he was trying to convert the citizens of Ireland to Christianity. There were multiple theories behind the origin, however, the most recognized theory was that St. Patrick merged the sun cross and a regular cross to give new supporters a way to keep their old religion and make the transition to Christianity easier. The importance of the sun cross was that it held life giving properties from the sun. • 26. Livestock Grazing Can Affect The Watershed Properties By... Livestock grazing can affect the watershed properties by altering plant cover and by compaction of the livestock s hooves. Reductions in the vegetation cover may: increase the impact of raindrops, decrease soil organic matter and soil aggregates, increase surface soil crusts, and decrease water infiltration rates [2]. These effects can cause an increase in runoff, a reduction in soilwater content, and increased erosion. The impacts of grazing can vary naturally, but it mainly depends on the area and time, due to climate, vegetation, intensity and duration of livestock. There are few studies that have attempted to justify the natural variations. Documentation of the power and duration of grazing has been poorly or completely disregarded [2]. Water is one of the most important products derived from rangelands and forests. The forests and watersheds should be viewed as watersheds and secondarily for their food, forage, wood, wildlife, and social. Watersheds are very diverse in their natural erosion, high flooding rate behavior, and high amounts of sediments. In some areas, plant cover and soil layers have not developed appropriately to make an influence on how water is generated from the land. For more extensive areas, plant cover and soil mantle have developed to exert a high degree of control on the reception and disposition of precipitation. Low rates of erosion, normally moderate peak stream discharges, normally small sediment loads, and optimum infiltration are the

They apparently remained in Central Asia, and only by the end of the second millennium BCE began to spread over the Iranian plateau. By the second half of the eighth century BCE, Iranian Median and Persian tribes (Mada and Parswa) had already been long established among the original non Iranian speakers of the Zagros mountain ranges of Iranian Kurdestan, according to the records of the Assyrian ruler Shalmaneser III (r. 858 824 BCE). • 40. Flat Iron Mesa in San Juan County Flat Iron Mesa is located in the heart of the Moab and Canyonlands area and enters San Juan County. It is surrounded by the Hatch Wash Canyon to the west and the La Sal mountain range towards the east. The vast features of the mesa and surrounding canyons demonstrate the remarkable effects of millions of years of erosion on a landscape of mostly sedimentary rock. The mesa s extensive landscape is covered with biological soil crust as well as an abundance of ephemeral pools. The potholes throughout the mesa are naturally occurring basins in deposits of sandstone that progressively collect rainwater and wind blown sedimentwhich gradually erode the underlying rock; leaving a series of circular impressions along the mesa s floor. Weathering, geologic processes such as erosion, and climatic shifts allow for this immense desert ecosystem to continually evolve and change which has taken place for millions of years. This geologically wealthy environment is composed of alternating flat lying layers of soft and hard deposits of mostly sedimentary rocks. Interchanging slopes and cliffs along the landscape helped form these layers of rock which can be seen fully exposed in areas of the mesa. Deposition of this landscape mainly occurred during the Permian, Pennsylvanian, Triassic and Jurassic time periods. The assortment of warm hues of sandstone were produced by varying levels of iron oxide minerals during formation. For hundreds of millions of years, geologic material

According to the idea of fate, there is a development of events in every person s life that is beyond their control and is certain to happen. One view of fate is that the choices a person makes leads to their fate. Each action of theirs changes their fate from the previous one. However, the other view is that no matter the choices a person makes or actions they take, their fate is predetermined and cannot be changed. A person s fate is preset and nothing they do can change that. All the choices they make lead to that destiny. The Effects Of Homelessness On The Homeless Population History of Homelessness The term to describe the homeless may have changed over time, however the issue of housing insecurity has remained for some Americans throughout history (Kusmer, 2001). Although the homeless population has always maintained in the United States, homelessness became a national issue in 1870 with the emergence of the tramp : these were men that banded together, rode trains illegally and had negative interactions with law enforcement (2001). The movement of the homeless from location to location changed after World War II, and after the 1940s the homeless were typically confined to urban areas (2001). This urbanization of the homeless population continued throughout the remainder of the century. Public awareness of homelessness regained momentum in the early 1980s after the recession. At the time, the issue was considered temporary and only impacted certain populations that were more vulnerable. Once the economy improved, homelessness would no longer be as issue (Rosenheck, 1994). The perception at the time was that the government safety net would assist these people, and that the homeless were deviants that chose to live outside of society s idea of normal (1994). A demographic change occurred during this time period: the homeless population before the resurgence of homeless as a social problem the in early 1980s, were much older than those seen during the 1980s and beyond (Kusmer, 2001). The first step of taking care of a dog, after of course owning a dog, is feeding him/her. First you need need to research what food brand is most beneficial for your dog s breed. The brand you choose should be the only brand of food you feed your dog because they have sensitive stomachs meaning their food diets shouldn t be changed often. If a film is pirated at any point, the worth of that film can be fatally depleted long before it can retrieve its initial investment. Film Releases There are generally two critical points in a film s distribution window where it can be pirated: in theatres, and retail DVDs. The most important release for a film is its theatrical release. A movie can earn back close to half of its budget in its opening weekend. However, the film can be pirated in two ways. Pirates can use hand held video cameras to record films off of theater screens and then copy these films onto other medias. Another method of piracy involves the theft of the film print from a theater. This type of theft allows the pirate to make a relatively high quality copy from the theatrical print, which then serves as the master for the duplication of unauthorized copies. These illicit copies are not only distributed to pirates in the US, but also shipped overseas and distributed through illegal channels even before the film s international theatrical release, cannibalizing a film s opening weekend returns. These copies are usually encoded and transferred over the Internet as well as through peer to peer networks. The second critical point is copies from retail DVDs. Before DVDs are sold to the public, production facilities churn out a

Summary Saunders article summarizes Phoenix Jackson as a symbol of the Christian religion and articulates the interpretation that her journey has biblical meaning. She is also compared to the mythical phoenix. Saunders own view of Phoenix Jackson was that she was a symbol for racial equality, who through love, perseverance and being one with nature displayed that symbolism. In my own paper Character Analysis of Phoenix Jackson (21 April 2106, unpublished paper) I saw Phoenix as a symbol of the hardships of being black in the South prior to the civil rights movement and the social, racial and economic adversity that needed to be overcome. Thesis My argument finds strong support in Saunders article, his analysis of it being essential that Phoenix Jackson is black. The crucial comparison between Phoenix Jackson and the mythical Phoenix, and his reminder of the social climate when Welty wrote her story (Saunders) all reinforce my theory that Phoenix Jackson symbolized social, racial and economic adversity from the 1860s to 1960s. Normal costing systems are appropriate when overhead costs are a relatively small percentage of total manufacturing costs and product diversity is limited.
