Harry Docwra conducted experiments creating an intro for a mockumentary influenced by The Office. He took footage around a college using his iPhone and edited it using iMovie on his iPad. In experiment 1, he created the intro using stock footage and credits. In experiment 2, he adjusted the vibrance of a shot to make the colors richer. Through experiment 3, he chose an instrumental song and edited parts together to match different shots in the intro, but would smooth the transition between slow and fast parts of the music.

2. Experiment 1
For my experiment I made a potential
intro for my mockumentary, influenced by
the office. My intro was highly influenced
by the intro to the office, in that it uses
stock footage of certain in the building in
use, (vending machine, lift, etc.). The intro
includes 3 cast members and other
credits (all are for me).
My challenge was finding the right song
to use and cut it down to around a minute
and sound professional.

3. Experiment 1
I made the entire intro using iMovie
on my iPad, and took all the footage
using my iPhone 12Pro. For some of
the shots I used the 0.5x lens on my
phone, which is the widest lens the
camera has. It gives an almost 160
degree shot of what’s in front of it.
This gives us a full wide view of the
college and the area it is in. The shot
reminds me of something from a
GoPro camera.
I like the way it looks but for some
reason the shot is a bit dark. I have
tried adjusting this by editing it.

4. Experiment 2
This shot is one that appears in my intro. I didn’t
like they way it originally looked, it looked cheap,
colourless and not very interesting. So to make it
look more appealing I tested out different looks
for it by clicking the ‘edit’ option at the top right
hand of the screen. I went through multiple
different settings for the video trying to find a
way to make it look better. I eventually settled on
just increasing the vibrance. It makes the colours
look richer and stand out enough.

5. Experiment 2
I experimented with many different
looks for the shot. I adjusted the
highlights, shadows, warmth, tint, etc. I
found myself happiest with just the
adjusted vibrance. It was the one out of
all of them that I liked the best. The
colours stood out enough and they
weren’t too bright or rich. I even tried
adding more saturation to the video and
it just looked too bright and didn’t work.

For my intro I (obviously) needed a song or some music to grab the
viewers attention and make them interested in watching the
mockumentary. I had a search on the internet and I decided on an
instrumental version of “Open Your Eyes” by Snow Patrol. I chosen
this song because it had the accurate pacing and mood I wanted. I
thought the vibe was appropriately bright and upbeat which is the
mood of my mockumentary.
I took different parts of the song and edited them together to match
up with the types of shots in the intro. For example; at 0:24 the beat
becomes bigger and louder and the video shows a massive staircase.
For the most part I like how this experiment turned out. But if I were
to go back and do something different I would find a smoother way to
make the transition in the music from slow to fast. At 0:12 the music
transition is way to sharp and I would prefer it if I had made it
smoothly fade rather than sharply cut to a different pace.
