AN EXISTENTIALISM
SCHOOL
BY: KEILA SANTANA
SCHOOL’S ROLE:
 In the existentialist classroom, subject matter is not as important
as helping the students understand and appreciate themselves as
unique individuals.
 The teacher's role is to help students define their own essence by
exposing them to various paths they may take in life and by creating
an environment in which they can freely choose their way(Sadker &
Zittleman, 2013, pg 259)
 Students are able to pick the subject and activities that they want
to do
PURPOSE:
The purpose of this school is that uses the existentialism
approach which focuses on the students choosing what they
want to learn.
Students are shown how to create meaning in their own lives
The school uses a student centered philosophy
Encourages students to look within themselves and discover
their true meaning in life
The schools purpose is to build curiosity in a student
SCHOOL SETTING:
 This school is in form of a house next to a lake and surrounded by
many acres of land, where students are able to enjoy the beauty of
nature
 Classes can happen in any setting , students usually pick what
they want to learn and where for example:
 1. In an empty room
 2. Conference table where everyone can participate and join the
discussion
 3. Sitting under a tree
 4.Create lessons in rooms full of artwork to enhance students
imagination
WHAT IS THE ACADEMIC
CURRICULUM? WHICH
COURSES ARE REQUIRED?

as a means of providing students with experiences that will help
unleash their creativity and self-expression. Sadker &
Zittleman, 2013, pg 259
 Learning is self-paced and self –directed
 This school does not have a strict curriculum in place

they want to learn and in what setting. The rule that is in
place is that anything that the student decides to so has to be
done with meaning.
 Students are responsible for their own learning and are
held accountable for their learning as well
EQUAL OPPORTUNITY
 In this existential school everyone is treated the
same, students are not separated based on their grade level.
 This school is available o anyone that want to learn in a
existential environment
 All ages are mixed freely
SCHOOL PHILOSOPHY:
 In this school students are taught like adults and no matter
the age are already given the opportunity to chose their
learning and explore who there are ass humans.
 Students are not place in a small room for many hours of
the day they are instead exploring are where they learn the
