1. Examples Of Argumentative Essays
Crafting an essay on the topic of "Examples of Argumentative Essays" can be both challenging
and rewarding. The difficulty lies in the need to strike a balance between providing concrete
examples to support arguments and ensuring that the essay maintains a coherent structure.
Selecting appropriate examples that are relevant to the argument, organizing them logically, and
presenting a compelling case require careful thought and attention to detail.
One of the challenges is finding a diverse range of examples that effectively showcase different
aspects of argumentative writing. It involves thorough research and a keen understanding of the
subject matter to present a well-rounded perspective. Additionally, it requires the ability to
analyze each example critically, evaluating its strengths and weaknesses in relation to the
overarching argument.
Moreover, constructing a strong thesis statement and effectively integrating examples to support
it can be demanding. The essay must not only present examples but also interpret them in a way
that reinforces the central argument. Striking the right balance between analysis and illustration is
crucial for the essay's success.
Furthermore, maintaining clarity and coherence throughout the essay is essential. Transitioning
between examples and arguments smoothly while keeping the reader engaged poses its own set
of challenges. Ensuring that the essay flows seamlessly from one point to the next requires
careful attention to the overall structure and the use of effective transitions.
In conclusion, writing an essay on "Examples of Argumentative Essays" demands a combination
of research, critical thinking, and effective communication skills. It involves the challenge of
selecting relevant examples, analyzing them thoughtfully, and presenting a cohesive argument.

writing.

The African elephant is the largest animal walking on earth today, weighing in at the

They use their trunk to communicate, and to handle objects such as food. They also

Part Two: The Search Results
Before, I had a difficult time finding decent articles or any at all. I figured it was
my keywords and I needed to put less in the search bar. The articles I have found so
far are really long and dry. Because of this, it was harder to comprehend. I started with
the Annotated Bibliography and have found decent information analyzing.
What I have been learning recently is that too many Americans are paranoid that the
government is constantly looking at their emails and phone calls. Kevin Maney
claims that most of the data at NSA sits in storage because no one has time to look
at it all (Maney). I strongly agree with him and it seems logical. Yet Americans will
be worried either way.
Friday November 11th, I saw many articles of history claiming that government
surveillance has been happening since Watergate and after the 9/11 attacks. Jane
Harman implies that security sparked from the mistake of not protecting enough
(Harman). The USA PATRIOT Act gave the government the authority to research
forms of communication prior to 9/11 ( Domestic ). President George W. Bush
authorized the National Security Agency, NSA, to look into the media and is
believed to be the largest intelligence agency in the United States ( Domestic ).
NSA has a location in Utah that can hold about 100 years of international data

Analysis of Robert Frost s Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening
Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening is a very well know poem by Robert
Frost. The poem appears to be very simple, but it has a hidden meaning to it. The
simple words and rhyme scheme of the poem gives it an easy flow, which adds to
the calmness of the poem. The rhyme scheme (aaba, bbcb, ccdc, dddd) and the
rhythm (iambic tetrameter) give the poem a solid structure. The poem is about the
speaker s experience of stopping by the dark woods in the winter evening with his
horse and admiring the beauty of the fresh fallen snow in the forest. Then, the speaker
projects himself into the mind of his horse, speculating about his horse s practical
concerns and the horse ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
why he stopped, may be he doesn t know himself. May be, he is comparing the
beauty of nature to something, but on a symbolic level, the snow strongly reminds
me that the poem is set in winter, and which is also widely represented as the image
of death.
In the second stanza, I see that the speaker wonders about what his horse is thinking
which shows his interests are also in the outside world too, like his horse. He also
takes certain pleasure seeing the scene from what he imagines to be his horse s
perspective. I think his horse is practical in nature, he thinks, while the speaker sits
there dreaming, watching the snow fill up the woods. He just stands there
dreaming, and thinking about his horse s feelings is the one thing that brings him
back to reality. Death comes again in the typical image of night, as we re told this
is the darkest evening of the year. Also, it can either be taken literally as the most
lightless night, or it can be taken as the night of the darkest emotions. I think that it is
a combination of the two, a dark moonless winter night in which the speaker
experiences some form of depression or loneliness.
In the third stanza, the speaker is brought back to reality. He s still drawn to the
scene, evidenced by the way he notes the quietness of the country after hearing the
harness bells shake. Although he s considered the needs of his horse to take journey
towards home, he can t easily draw himself away from the beauty of the

6. Analysing the Gospel of Mark Essay examples
In this paper, I am writing about the Gospel of Mark. The Gospel of Mark is the
shortest Gospel, but is a really cool one. It covers a lot of key events that happened
during Jesus lifetime. After reading the chapters, we pointed out things that stood out
to us, which we thought were strange or interesting. We also pointed out spiritual
lessons that taught us about our faith. We also wrote down questions that we had
about the material. After reading Mark, chapters one through five, several things
stood out to me. First, when Jesusheals the paralytic that is lowered from the roof in
Mk. 2:11, the healed man doesn t even thank Jesus! He just walked out of the
building and back to his house. This stood out to me because most of the time,...

One question that I had after reading this section was: how did John the Baptist know
that God would be so much mightier than him? How did he recognize Jesus? After
reading Mk. 6 11, several things stood out to me. First, in Mk. 6: 50, when Jesus
walks on water, the disciples are incredibly frightened. They think he is an evil
specter. This stood out to me because the disciples trusted Jesus with their lives, but
when he does something like that, which is beyond their understanding, they freak
out. You would think that with the things that the disciples had seen Jesus do, that
this wouldn t really surprise them. Second, in Mk. 7:1 9 Jesus thought that the
Commandments were more important than tradition, but the Pharisees didn t. This
stood out to me because the Pharisees were supposed to be religious leaders, but in
some cases, seemed to disregard the Commandments in difference to their traditions.
This mainly seemed to come into play with divorce and its rules. Third, in Mk. 10:2
8 Jesus taught that a husband and wife became one flesh. This stood out to me
because I know that a husband and wife are supposed to be close, but Jesus teaches
that they should become one. This has to be awfully hard to achieve because I know
that sometimes a husband and wife have disagreements. The lesson that I learned in
these chapters is that Jesus said, Whatever goes into a man from outside can t defile
him, what comes out of the man defiles him. This shows

The First World War was commonly known for its lack of movement for soldiers
on all sides. World War I took place on the Western Front from the autumn of 1914
to the spring of 1918. During the First Battle of the Marne, German advances were
pushed back by the Allied forces. To stop themselves from loosing land they dug in
and made protective trenches. The Allied forces were unable to break through the
German line as a result did the same and made trenches of their own. Death was an
event that many soldiers had met on the front lines daily. Due to attacks launched by
air raids with large shell bursts numerous men were buried in the process of

Trench Fever until 1918. To prevent sickness many men opt to have their heads

Trench Foot. It was a fungi infection in the feet area caused by cold, wet and
unsanitary trench conditions. Amputation was necessary when the infection get

and faded in 1915 as conditions became better. The Daily life of a typical solider in
a battalion was like a cycle each day. Men began their morning by waking to orders
by their officers and sergeants. They had to climb up on a fire step to guard it from
an enemy raid. Both sides actually new they were coming for each other, but they
prepared themselves for attacks that were carried out anyways. In the early hours
machine gun fires were heard from both sides along with shelling and small arms
aimed at the fronts. It helped ensured safety at dawn. Next some areas would have
rum being distributed to the men. They would soon attend to clean their rifle
equipment that later officers had inspections for. Now breakfast is serve and eaten,
as forces from both sides would have an unofficial truce. These truces would last
long as it seemed as the quietest times during life in the front lines. Inspections take

Good for large sites like airport runways, landfills, and swampland / wetland

When installing PVDs, it does a minimum disturbance to the soil layers.

To receive a better consolidation, the sand has to be carefully chosen in sand drain

how Edward wants to be normal . To Edward he is normal but to the people of
suburbia he is a, perversion of nature this is in Esmeralda s words. Through out the
film edward tries to fit in but struggles. An example of Edward trying to fit in is
when he is at the BBQ and the men are cooking the meat,Edward tries to be like the
other men and makes kababs on his scissorhands. This shows how he is trying to
fit in because he is trying to be like the men in suburbia and do the bbq while the

Huey Newton and Bobby Seale founded the Black Panthers Party for self defense. In
finding the Black Panther Party, Newton and Seale based the ideas and visions on the
works of Malcolm X, a prominent figure in the Civil Rights movement, who had a by
any means necessary attitude . Malcolm had represented both a militant
revolutionary, with the dignity and self respect to stand up and fight to win equality
for all oppressed minorities. Once they created the group Newton and Seale organized
a mission statement, Ten Point Program, and a Uniform. The BP mission statement
included: [practicing] militant self defense of minority communities against the U.S.
government, and [fighting] to establish revolutionary socialism through mass
organizing and community based programs . The supplement Ten Point Program of
the Black Panther Partyincluded: Freedom, Full Employment, an end to robbery by
the capitalists of black community, housing, education, exemption from military
service, end to police, freedom for convicted blacks, wanting all people tried in court
to be tried by jury of their peer group from black communities, and land, bread,
clothing, justice, and peace.

Point Programs but also by their uniforms. Panthers were noticeable by their black
leather jackets, blue shirts, black trousers, and black breets that Huey Newton said

12. Eloquent Feelings And Safe Places
Eloquent Feelings and Safe Places Stephen Dunn s poems makes sure to let the
reader stop and think, and as a creative writing teacher he knows how to do just that.
Winner of awards such as the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry, The James Wright Prize ,and
the Paterson Award for Sustained Literary Achievement , his work The Sacred ,
published back in 1989, shows off his literary genius in normal experiences and
captures the vehement thoughtin his writing that has captured many hearts of the
readers. The Sacred speaks about what a student believes is his sacred space, and
what it means to him. Dunn uses three core poetic devices to not only show that
everyone needs an escape from reality, but also the herd mentality of youth when
one has confidence. The nihilistic ending and the free form moderate style add to
the ideals that Dunn tries to present and helps add a twist ending to the poem when
you see the lack of desire for social interactions in the young man who was the first
to speak up. The contrast between his outer presentation and his inside emotions are
shown strongly between the first and second half, as if he only spoke up to get it over
with . The enjambment that pushes through the whole poem create a string of
consciousness feeling, as if a person in the class is slightly nervous to share his
response. In the beginning of the poem, Dunn shows how much this student takes his
13. Examples Of Liberalism In 1984
The heavy political climate in America s recent years has sparked an increase in
popularity of George Orwell s novel 1984. Not only is there controversy as to what
Orwell depicts in the novel, but there is also confusion and debate as to what we
are seeing in our developing world presently. While it is easy to hold strong beliefs
on each end of the spectrum, it is necessary to take into account what we can gain
from both sides rather than limiting ourselves to one or the other. The articles
provided give two very different perspectives on the book, but what they have in
common is extremity. This novel was without a doubt intentionally written with an
underlying message of extremity in terms of conservatism and liberalism. I strongly
believe that Orwell wrote 1984 with both ends of the spectrum in mind to depict a
world of radicalism in which chaos and absurdities are ever so present.... Show more

It is an extreme reminder that complete faith in government leads to blindness that
strips each individual of humanity and freedom. Nathan Schlueter author of The True
Lessons of 1984 , defends his conservative viewpoint through evidence found in the
novel. Oceania s food rations, totalitarian rule, and propaganda are prime examples of
socialism in 1984. At one point in the novel, O Brien, the voice of the socialist
party, speaks to Winston about the future of society in Oceania. He states that the
primary goal will be to eliminate human experience. He explains to Winston: Never
will you be capable of love, or friendship, or joy of living, or laughter, or curiosity,
or courage, or integrity. Ultimately the purpose of all this would to give control and
power to Big Brother which is a primary sentiment of socialist totalitarianism. 1984

horror that exists on the page rarely translates successfully to the silver screen. For
every great King filmadaptation such as the classic Carrie (1976) and the recent

At the beginning of the film, Jack and his family arrive at the remote Overlook Inn
to begin the winter as caretakers. From the moment they walk into the large,
empty Overlook Inn, the viewer realizes that the location itself will become a big
character itself within the film. To make the Inn a character, Kubrick designed
several large sets for the film to help create the sense of loneliness and isolation.
Within such a large environment, the family is often kept apart. Jack seems to
enjoy the isolation and even demands that he be left alone. At one point in the film
his wife, Wendy, interrupts him. Jack responds with anger stating that When I am
in here, it means I am working. And that means don t come in! Aside from the
isolation they feel from each other, the set designs also make the character seem
small and alone within the Inn. The family s young son Danny often explores the
location by himself. The long hallways appear endless and he rides his tricycle
through the inn. The large rooms, hallways and exteriors seem to overtake the
characters as the hotel s supernatural past begins to take control. Finally, Kubrick
created a large hedge maze for the film s climax. This maze was built for the film
and completes the location s ability to isolate the characters as they seek shelter in
it. A maze has the ability to separate people and get them lost within it. The character
of Jack was lost well before he entered the maze,
18. Allusions In History
Reference to History in Pop Culture
All throughout modern and pop culture there are many different allusions that lead
and reference back to ancient times. Many of these reference are not where you
would expect them to be either while watching a movie, or TV show, or even
listening to music. For example, Achilles Last Stand by Robert Plant of Led
Zeppelin, Moon Knight by Marvel Comics, and Aladdin by Walt Disney Features
Animation all have some type of allusion to the past in the Ancient world. In the song
Achilles Last Stand, Robert Plant writes about many different aspects of Greek
Mythology. He refers not only to the mythological warrior Achilles but he also
describes the Atlas Mountains. But as he describes Atlas Mountain there is a double
meaning behind his lyric The mighty arms of Atlas hold the heavens from the Earth.

from the Egyptian gods. A more common and well known movie that had an
allusion into ancient Rome is that of Aladdin by Walt Disney Features Animation.
During the scene when Genie is transforms Aladdin into a prince he is looking

19. Sacred Cow in India
18 India s sacred cow MARVIN HARRIS Other people s religious practices and
beliefs may often appear to be wasteful. They seem to involve a large expenditure of
scarce resources on ritual; they contain taboos that restrict the use of apparently
useful materials. Their existence seems irrational in the face of ecological needs. One
example that many cite in support of this viewpoifJt is the religious proscription on
the slaughter of cattle in India. How can people permit millions of cattle to roam
about eating, but uneaten, in a land so continuously threatened by food shortages and
starvation? In this article, Marvin Harris challenges the view that religious value is
ecologically irrational. Dealing with the Indian case, he argues that... Show more

Thereafter, the cow taboo assumed its modern form and began to function much
as it does today. The place of the cow in modern India is every place on posters, in
the movies, in brass figures, in stone and wood carvings, on the streets, in the
fields. The cow is a symbol of health and abundance. It provides the milk that
Indians consume in the form of yogurt and ghee (clarified butter), which contribute
subtle flavors to much spicy Indian food. This, perhaps, is the practical role of the
cow, but cows provide less than half the milk produced in India. Most cows in
India are not dairy breeds. In most regions, when an Indian farmer wants a steady,
high quality source of milk he usually invests in a female water buffalo. In India
the water buffalo is the specialized dairy breed because its milk has a higher
butterfat content than zebu milk. Although the farmer milks his zebu cows, the
milk is merely a by product. . More vital than zebu milk to South Asian farmers are
zebu calves. Male calves are especially valued because from bulls come oxen, which
are the mainstay of the Indian agricultural system. Small, fast oxen drag wooden
plows through late spring fields when monsoons have dampened the dry, cracked
earth. After harvest, the oxen break the grain from the stalk by stomping through
mounds of cut wheat and rice. For rice cultivation in irrigated fields, the male water
buffalo is preferred (it pulls better in deep mud), but for most other
20. The Beginning Of Colonial Life
The beginning of colonial life started off with great living conditions. There was a
lack of disease and good amount of clean drinking. These new conditions for the
colonist added a few years to the life expectancies. Because of the new great life
spans of the colonist, the growth of New England was at an all time high. Even
though there was a great start in New England, Chesapeake was far from growing at
the time. It was full of disease; almost all of the men and women were widowers. And
their children became orphans. Even though there were countless deaths, disease
captured mostly European women. The men then began to have relations with
African and Native American women. This then became known as miscegenation.

The Native Americans then proceeded to take tactics from the Europeans. This
then would help and give them an advantage in fight. Both sides of the Native
American groups fought on this conflict. Washington then gave up and soon the
Colonial militia was taken over by General Braddock, all because the French
advanced in their proceedings of Fort Necessity. In 1755 the French were
victorious until 1758 when the British won a series of battles. The British captured
the French city of Quebec in 1759 while in 1760 the French signed a peace treaty
with the British. In this treaty Canada will no longer be controlled by France. All
the while the British allowed religious freedom to also take place here, which still
was not present in the other thirteen colonies. The end of the war was official with
the Treaty of Paris. Then there was the Treaty of Paris. This is when France
surrendered Canada to Britain with Louisiana under Spanish Control. These wars
doubled the debt for the English in its colonies and England. Since there was an
extensive amount of British troops, taxes were increased and this caused the
American Revolution that was an anti British movement. Furthermore the Colonial
period first had a great growth while others such as Chesapeake had numerous deaths.
Britain and France had ongoing conflicts over control, the Native Americans and
Africans then became involved while the militias were taken
21. Analysis Of The Story Ligeia By Edgar Allan Poe
Ligeia is a short story of darkness, tragedy, and love by, famous writer, Edgar Allan
Poe. The story ventures into the mind and point of view of a widower. The
narrator, who recently lost his first wife, became a wealthy man, and becomes
addicted to drugs. He then goes to get married again, but he is not satisfied nor
happy. He cannot get his mind off Ligeia. This story is quite dark throughout. Also
to add a bigger effect to story, Poe decides to make the narrator describe things in
the first person point of view. Poe also does not mention the protagonist s full
name to help add mystery. The story seems like an unrealistic tale throughout since
Ligeia hunts the narrator and ends up killing his second wife to reincarnate in her
body. Ligeia has been interpreted in the past by many scholars as a psychological
story due to its characters, although most people agree, if the narrator s first person
point of view is applied on top, the story comes off as nothing more than a person s
fantasy. The story starts with the narrator trying to remember all about Ligeia. The
narrator is trying to remember the first time they met, her full name, and how she
became his first wife. Then the story progresses to tell the reader that Ligeia is
dead, and the narrator is grieving for his wife. Her love and beauty had a big
impact on his life, making it hard for the narrator to see past all of this and to
remember her every detail. He only remembers her looks and nothing more. Later, he

Substitute Mothers in Jane Eyre
In Charlotte Bronte s Jane Eyre, Jane is an orphan who is often mistreated by the
family and other people who surround her. Faced with constant abuse from her aunt
and her cousins, Jane at a young age questions the treatment she receives: All John
Reed s violent tyrannies, all his sister s proud indifference, all his mother s
aversion, all the servants partiality, turned up in my disturbed mind like a dark
deposit in a turbid well. Why was I always suffering, always brow beaten, always
accused, forever condemned? (27; ch. 2). Despite her early suffering, as the novel
progresses Jane is cared for and surrounded by various women who act as a sort of

Jane s motherly figures in the novel are heavily focused on her child and young adult
life, when a real mother would be of most importance, and when Charlotte felt her
mother s absence the most.
Mothers are often missing in Victorian fiction of the mid nineteenth century
(McKnight 18). A large part of this is due to the very real threat of death through
childbirth or from other incurable illnesses, but also because novelists like Bronte
were capturing the life threatening reality of motherhood in the century by showing
how often mothers simply were not on hand to watch their children mature
(McKnight 18). In similar regards to Bronte mimicking her own life with her
characters, it is said: While Jane s orphaned and outcast condition represented a
spiritual truth about the Victorian state of existence, it also signified an artistic
truth for Bronte, who explained to Wordsworth the joy she felt in creating
characters with no father nor mother but your own imagination (Berg 4). He also
states that without any family to tie her down, Jane is able to float freely and be in
any situation she chooses, after an age where that is accepted (Berg 5). Clearly,
this is an error because Jane is in constant battle with her lack of options. The
reason that she ended up at Thornfield at all is because Mrs. Fairfax is the only
person who replied to her ad.
According to Adrienne Rich in her essay Jane Eyre: The Temptations of a

Mohandas Gandhi was born on October 2, 1869 in Porbandar India to a Hindu
father and Jainist mother. His very religious mother was a practitioner of
Vaishnavism (worship of the Hindu god Vishnu). Influenced by his mother s beliefs
Gandhi was governed by self discipline and nonviolence. He soon got married and
sailed off to study law. When Gandhi returned he was in shock of what had
happened to India, in just 1 year. Gandhi s beliefs never changed and he still
strongly believed in self discipline and nonviolence. He wanted to make a change in
India s cultures. And that s exactly what he did, he made the change he saw in the
world. Gandhi used many tactics to get India s independence, such as Civil

Wakeboarding is a fun and challenging sport. A couple of years ago I was boating

a wakeboard. In the past I had tried water skiing and kneeboarding, but until then I
had never heard of wakeboarding, I haven t picked up a water ski or kneeboard since

In Freud s essay on the nature of the uncanny, published in the 1919, He states that the
most basic definition of the uncanny is the quality of feeling within the realm of the
frightening as That species of the frightening that goes back to what was once well
known and had long been familiar. The uncanny does not send us screaming in
horror, but instead, evokes a sense of oddness in an unsettling manner. Freud sums up
the uncanny in simple terms, unwinding from the semantics of the German words
Heimlich and unheimlich. The semantic scope of the words Heimlich and unheimlich
in German entwines in a fascinating manner that is not easy to replicate in English.
The most favorable way to represent the difference is that Heimlich represents the
familiar or the homely, whereas the unheimlich is the unfamiliar, the strangely
unfamiliar, or that what is known familiar but no longer is. Thus, Heimlich is a word
with the meaning of which foster towards a quandary, until it finally coincides with
its opposite, the unheimlich. Therefore, the unheimlich is in some ways considered
sub species of the heimlich. The inherent tension between the known and unknown is
played out as a disturbing experience of repressed material of the mind that
represents itself in an alien and unsettling form. He goes on to expand how this...

The importance of parents in life is the essential thing that every child need. Father
and mother serve as the role models not only through direct relations with their kids
but through the example they present their attitude and behaviour inside the family

Now we will discuss a brief history of early atomic battery development.
Henry G. J. Moseley, known for developing the Atomic Number and numerous other
contributions to physics and chemistry, created the first known atomic battery in
1913 with his demonstration of the beta cell. He experimented with a radioactive
isotope of the element radium, and the respective emissions of beta particles, to
form the first atomic battery (source 5). This first crude battery saw minimal
success and effectiveness, and it wasn t until 1954 when the Radio Corporation of
America (RCA) began studying atomic batteries for the use of small radio
receivers and hearing aids that atomic batteries became practical and more potential
was realized (source 6). Moving forward to the 1980 s, inventor Paul Brown
developed an atomic battery that was much more powerful than most thermal
batteries out at the time. Brown used the emission of alpha and beta particles in
radioactive materials to create an extremely powerful magnetic field. As discussed
before, these alpha and beta particles contain kinetic energy to help collide atomic
particles. The energy produced from this system was so rapid and immense that
controlling the cell was extremely difficult. This proved to be a towering roadblock
for most scientists to continue research for atomic batteries, until Brown was able to
invent an approach to encompass the uncontrollable magnetic fields. This battery was
so powerful

Foreign direct investment (FDI)
FDI appears when a commonly expanding or growing company is investing to a
foreign country. FDI consists of the acquisition or creation of assets (e.g. firm equity,

semi finals of the tournament. The America team won the dual match in an
exhilarating tiebreaker. This victory ensured the team the opportunity to compete
against Iran, another dominant national team. Bryant (2015) sums up the team s
recent success this year saying, one of the most successful countries in Olympic
wrestling, winning 124 medals. The USA had two gold medalists at last summer s
London Games...U.S. women have won four medals since women s wrestling was
added to the 2004 Athens Games ( United States tops Russia, para. 12). Wrestling is a
sport that is custom to excitement and intensity because of the heightened level of
competition that exists among all of its national participants. The competitive
excitement that the sport generates between its participating nations should be a
critical component within the Olympic committee s decision to reinstate wrestling in
the 2020 Olympic
40. The History of Alcatraz Island Essay
The History of Alcatraz Island
Alcatraz Island has quite a distinct history. Many people know that Alcatraz served
as a federal prison, but most are reluctant to know that this island served as fort.
Built before the Civil War, it served two main purposes. First, that it was to guard
the San Francisco bay area from enemy ships against a foreign invasion, and second,
to hold hostage prisoners of war or POW s as they were called. In this report, I ll
show you how this fortress came to be a federal prison, why it is no longer in
operation today, and most importantly, to show why it was built in the first place.
When the great Gold Rush of 1849 first started, California grew from what would be
considered a small, unpopulated state, into ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

By the early 1860 s, Alcatraz had 111 cannons. Some were enormous, firing a
fifteen inch ball weighing over 450 pounds. Defenses included a row of brick
enclosed gun positions called case mates to protect the dock; a fortified gateway
or a Sally Port to block the entrance road; and a three story citadel on top of the
island. This served both as an armed barracks and as a last line defense strategy.
Even though Alcatraz was built to withstand a foreign invasion, its most important
use was during the Civil War, 1861 1865. Seeing as it was the only completed fortin
the entire bay, it was vital in the protecting from Confederate Raiders. Early in the
war, ten thousand rifles were moved to Alcatraz from the State armory, to prevent
them from being used by southern sympathizers. The crew of a Confederate
privateer were among the first inmates to be held within The Rock. Alcatraz s
notoriety as a penitentiary overshadows its earlier, and longer use by the Army.
Surprisingly, this small island once was the most powerful fort west of the
Mississippi River. There was some limited modernization of the island s defenses
after the Civil War. Rifled cannons were mounted. In 1854 some 450 electrically
controlled underwater mines were brought to the island to protect the Bay.
However, as the ships of potential enemies became more and more powerful, the
defenses were increasing! ly obsolete. In 1907 Alcatraz officially ceased being a
fortress and became Pacific
41. The Vietnam War Was A Damaging Conflict
Victoria Valean Professor William Mack U.S. History 2 16 April 2015 Vietnam
War The Vietnam War was a damaging conflict that left deep scars on all the
people and countries that were involved. About 60,000 American lives were taken
and an estimated 2,000,000 Vietnamese were killed or wounded. That is about 10
percent of Vietnam s population. Many bombs, weapons, and chemical warfare
destroyed Vietnam s infrastructure and land. Not only did this war bring
destruction to Vietnam s physical country, but it helped bring down two
presidential administrations in the U.S., and led to widespread public dissent in
America. The American foreign policy today is still affected by the lessons learned
in the Vietnam War. On November 1st, 1964, about 100 Vietcong guerillas attacked
an American air base in Bien Hoa. This was the first battle of the Vietnam War. The
Vietcong completely startled the South Vietnamese soldiers and the American
soldiers as well. The guerillas launched their attack from the dense jungle. It
consisted of fired mortars and cannons that hit the American base, and the Vietcong
guerillas managed to disappear into the jungle before squads could search for them.
The sneaky guerillas destroyed 6 American planes and damaged 20 others. Their
attack included the killing of 5 Americans and 2 South Vietnamese soldiers, along
with leaving over 100 wounded. More attacks by the Vietcong followed on
December 24th, 1964 and February 7th, 1964 . America sought a peaceful end
42. Myosin Skeletal Muscle Contraction
Myosin is a conventional term used to reference a group of molecular motors that
translocate actin filaments or translocate vesicles on fixed actin filaments in living
organisms[1]. The human genome also contains 24 unconventional Myosins divided
into 11 distinct classes including some nonmuscle Myosins[2]. This poster will cover
in particular MyosinII which is responsible for skeletal musclecontraction[1]
Myosin II has a molecular weight of 520 kDa contains two heavy chains, each
roughly 2000 amino acids in length[3]. Each of these heavy chains are comprised of
an N terminal head domain and C terminal tails that together take on a coiled coil
morphology holding the two heavy chains together[4]. Apart from the 2 heads and
heavy chains Myosin ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Myosin can hydrolyze a single ATP in 30 seconds which is slow when compared to
the 5 10 ATP hydrolyzed every second when combined with Actin
[7]. One Myosin
head binds to one Actin filament to hydrolyze ATP, this occurs due to the polarity
of the Actin molecule[7][Img2]. After completion of the hydrolyzation process and
release of the products the usually weak bond between Myosin and Actin is
strengthened due to the release of Phosphate[6]. This change is referred to as the
Power Stroke as it pulls the Actin filament down the line, ADP is released and the
Myosin head detaches once a new ATP is secured so the process can repeat[1][Img2].
Rigor Mortis is a stiffening of the body caused in part by the lack of aerobic
respiration[8]. In death the body releases Calcium ions which interact with Actin and
Myosin to contract muscles throughout the body[8]. Due to the cessation of
respiration the body is unable to efficiently produce ATP[9]. This causes a shortage
that denies Myosin and Actin the ability to disconnect, Calcium ions are unable to be
pumped back out of the muscle cell so the muscles remain tense and the body

Han and Roman Reactions to Technology During a time of large empires and
increased interactions between societies, the Han and Roman Empires both dealt
with new technology. The Han Empire in China had a mostly positive view towards
technology, with a few people against it. This was due to their belief in the Mandate
of Heaven and Confucianism. They were focused on agricultural technology
advancements. The Roman Empirewas split between supporters and opponents of
technology. This was due to a large population of slaves and the belief that tools for
craftsmen weren t enlightened. They were focused more on mathematical and
scientific achievements. The social class and location of people affected their attitude
towards technology. Han... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All the documents are from male upper class officials and philosophers. A
document from a lower class or middle class citizen describing how technology has
helped or hurt them would be able to provide views of technology from multiple
social classes. Another useful document would be one from a woman. Would they say
it is helping them accomplish more tasks around the house or would they say it is
making their husband lazier? A document from the inventor of technology would
clarify if technology is being used as it was originally intended to. A document from
the Emperor of these Empires would show if they thought technology was helping or
hurting the justification for their

Bending
Bending: Bending (also known as flexure) characterizes the behavior of a slender
structural element subjected to an external load applied perpendicularly to a
longitudinal axis of the element.
Bending stress: Bending stresses are those that bend the beam because of beam self
load and external load acting on it.
Beam is a structural member which is subjected to transverse load only.
Support and its types
Support is important aspect of structure while solving any any problem , support
specify that how the forces within structure is transffered to the ground. It ultimetly
tells us the boundary conditions while solving any finite element model.various
supports are Fixed support A fixed support is the most rigid support. It constrains...

Pure bending is a condition of stress where a bending moment is applied to a beam
without the presence of axial, shear or torsional forces.
Theory of simple bending(Assumptions) Material of beam is homogenous and
Isotropic, Constant E in all direction Youngs Modulus will be constant in
compression and tension. Transverse sections which are plain before bending
remains plain after bending i.e eliminate strains in other directions. Initially beam is
straight and all longitudinal filaments bend in circular arcs. Radius of curvature is
larger compared with the Dimension of the cross section. Each layer of the beam is
free to expand or contract otherwise they will generate internal
