5. Nella Larsen Passing Analysis
Nella Larsen s Passing challenges the traditional ideology of ethnic, racial, and
gender integrity, transforming the concept of an acceptable definition of identity,
which both individuals and society can appreciate. By developing exceptionally
round characters whom are unstable and volatile, Larsen builds monologues to
display how easy it is to lose one s identity. Clare Kendry, challenges the
stereotypes, society has ascribed to her. Leaving her in a limbo for identity white or
black, however, she never has the chance to align to a particular identity because of
her mysterious death, while Irene Redfield, becomes obsessed and envious of Clare,
destroying her own sense of self by committing psychological suicide, in terms of

Shifting the focus from ideas of racial constructs to fluidity of the human condition.
By, doing this Larsen illustrates the husband as the example of societal norms by
repressing such feeling and uses Clare and Irene as the more progressive example of
identity fluidity.
Some skeptics such as Audre Lorde: may, argue that the focus of Larsen s novella
focused primarily on the juxtaposition of race and sexual identity of Black feminism
in the early twentieth century. However, Larsen makes use of unstable identities that
can been seen through the passage via Brian Redfield and John Bellew. The
husbands envelope the extent of male privilege and contrarily shows their means of
working against it. By exploring these men, it offers a more critical view to
understanding Clare and Irene
Well you see, it s like this. When we were first married, she was as white as as well

6. Bend It Like Beckham Analysis
The Effects of Cultural Influences in Bend It Like Beckham .
Bend It Like Beckham. Have you watched this movie before? The film, Bend It Like
Beckham by Gurinder Chadha is the most ever inter cultural conflict movie ever
produced. Even though the film is basically about soccer, the cultural and co cultural
interference overshadow the soccer aspect of the movie. The Characters ambitious
desires were affected by cultural differences because of gender and nationality being
an issue in society when it comes to certain sports. The film also exhibits the
bending of cultural values and mixture of traditional and coexistent ideas. First and
foremost, the movie is about two young females Jessminder Bhamra (Jess) and
Juliette Paxton (Jules) who live with their parents in the middle class neighborhood
in Hounslow London. Jules comes into contact with Jess playing soccer with her
male friends at the park and she introduces Jess to her coach because of her great
performance. Jess and Jules are from the different cultural background but their
interest in soccer playing brought them together due to the co culture they found
themselves in. However, both ladies find themselves in the same predicament where
their mothers disapprove their devotion to playing soccer. The film shows how
cultural clashes made Jess and Jules acted with their mothers (Mrs. Bhamra and Mrs.
Paxton) by becoming hostile and dismissive towards each other. Tension also arises
between the mothers and

The scientists on board spend each and every day doing research about space and
about Earth s features such as clouds and the surrounding atmosphere. The ISS is
the only research station for scientists in space. This is the main reason for them

microgravity and the effects space has on the human body. The ISS allows the
scientists to do research that they could not do anywhere else. There are three
different labs on board the ISS, which enables the scientists of the different nations
to do their work in peace if desired. The International Space Station is designed for
nations to come together and try to give the world more knowledge then it already

10. Disadvantages Of Hatha Yoga
The term Hatha [Л€ha ta] originates from the Sanskrit word hatha. When broken
into two syllables, ha (sun) and tha (moon) refers to physical yoga. The ha refers to
the hot energy of sun while the tha refers to the cooling energy of the moon (Iyengar,
2012; Hutton, 2014). In Hatha yoga, Desikachar suggests that nadi are located
throughout the body. Prana, also referred to as infinite energy, flows within these
nadi or channels. Desikachar suggests that three nadi spiral around the spinal column.
The ida nadi moves through the left nostril and pingala nadi enters the right nostril.
Desikachar also states that the nadi meet at six points in the body referred to as
chakras. Running along the vertical line of the spine, one chakrais located at the
center of the eyebrows. The second chakra is at the throat and the third is at the
center of the chest and just above the heart. The fourth chakra is present at the navel
and the fifth at the base of the trunk. The last chakra originates at the base of the
spine. Prana flows between these channels and may only do so when not blocked.

a heating effect on the body. In this pranayama it is to be imagined that the breath is

11. Ru Novel Analysis
In the novel Ru by Kim Thuy the way it written is completely different from how a
conventional novel is written. The book is mostly about a girl name Nguyen An
Tinh who her and her family escapes Vietnam, to Malaysian to try and live an
american dream. She had some trouble throughout the way, but ended up getting
married and having two kids one of her kids name Pascal has autism and in the novel
she explains her long trip to how she got to where she is now.
One way her novel is written different is the way it is structured. She wrote it as if
she was writing in a diary she just did not say dear diary. Kim did not write a chapter
novel, her chapters was shorty most of them a page long the longest I seen was a two
pages long. She did not write it as if she was trying to target a specific audience. She

She writes the book as if she is having a conversation or telling a story to someone
special to her like her kid or a family member. In the book Nguyen explains how she
used to be mad at her mom for doing some of the things she did but once she
became a mom she understood. She gave an example on her her mom would make
her go to the store for sugar and if she would come back without it she would send
her back to the store, lock the door and told her to not come back until she have
sugar. She said how she remembers sitting on the step outside the store and crying
until they closed. She said she understood because she had a dream for her, she had
the tools and her mom just wanted her to put the roots down so that she can dream
too. For a long time, I thought my mother enjoyed pushing me right to the edge.
When I had my own children, I finally understood... In this quote her saying it the

12. Macroeconomics Personal Statement
When I was young, my parents started their business supplying steel to construction
firms. They often talked about their business when we had dinner. Since their
business is closely related to the overall macroeconomic situation, I got a sense about
business cycle at an early age. I could judge whether it is an expansion or recession
by their looks and attitudes at dinner. Also, I got a feeling about how the business
could function in the environment of competition before I entered high school. This
childhood experience stimulated my interests in economics. Because of the hope to
get more professional, in depth knowledge about the current economic situation and
government s economic policy, I decided to major in economics in college to further
my study. When getting into Renmin University of China, I was realigned to the
major of Labor and Social Security. Since it is hard to change my major to
economics, I applied to transfer to University of Pittsburgh to fulfill my dream of
getting more professional knowledge about economics. It turns out that this
experience not only prepared me in economic knowledge, but improve my ability to
analyze problems qualitatively and quantitatively.
Studying economics is a process of cultivating my logical thinking and the skills to
construct mathematical models simulating the real world. In the course of
Macroeconomics, several models about economic growth were introduced. At first, I
was confused by large amounts of economic variables in

social, religious, and cultural dynamics. Through the development of India in the past
100+ years, they were colonized by Great Britain and societies began to form caste
systems. However, different hierarchal statuses were instituted long before the
establishment of castesystems officially. Sociologists agree that the British didn t
create the caste system, however the British used their dominance to further endorse a
stricter system that could easily define and categorize the people of India. The

There are many arguments that the caste system is fundamentally for religious
reasons, however other historians and sociologists argue that once the Europeans
started colonizing India, the meaning of took a turn. Through biological theories, all
existing things (animated or inanimate) will inherit one of three qualities, sattva,
rajas, and tamas (Daniel). Sattvas qualities include goodness, honesty, wisdom,
intelligence, and many other good natured qualities; rajas qualities are passionate
qualities such as, passion and pride; and tamas qualities are not very positive
qualities, and entail lack of intelligence and creativity, dullness, and other negative
qualities (Daniel). Depending on the qualities that one inherited and gained, would
determine what occupation one would be in, essentially deciding what class they
would be in. Through the social historical theory, we understand that the caste system
began with the Aryans in 1500 B.C. (Swanpil 71). The Aryans were fairer in their
skin, and came from northern Asia and southern Europe. Through Lieberson s and
Noel s Model (1968), both consider the importance of initial group contact however
the Aryans used Lieberson s migrant subordination as well as being ethnocentric to

21. Essay about Discusses the Reliability of Specific Narrators
Discuss the reliability or otherwise of specific narrators employed in the texts that
you have studied on this module.
When discussing the reliability of specific narrators within a text there is a need to
look at the consistency of the narrators and also their trustworthiness. It is also
important to assess how the author has used the narrators within a novel and to what
extent this use has on a readers view of reliability. The novels Heart of Darkness By
Joseph Conrad and A Hero of Our Time By Mikhail Lermontov both contain more
than one narrator. Heart of Darkness has two narrators, an anonymous passenger on
a pleasure ship who listens to Marlow s story and Marlow himself. The first narrator
speaks in the first person plural on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is the reader who has to decide on many occasions whether Marlow s opinions are
close to the truth or way off.
The reader may find it easy to trust Marlow s opinions and also what he says
because of how the story is told to them. Heart of Darkness is framed by the
narration of another nameless observer (which could quite easily be them). As a
result, Marlow s whole story appears enclosed in quotation marks. One reason for
this may be that the reader feels as if he/she is hearing the tale as well. Having
Marlow in front of us on the Nellie, we feel the immediacy of his speaking voice
and the actual sensation of a sailor spinning a yarn before us. If Conrad had written
the whole novel in the first person, getting rid of the primary narrator, he would
have needed to leave out Marlow s hesitations and digressions, which are important
to the style of the novel. We would also miss the feeling that Marlow was working
out the meaning of his tale as he went along and that he trusts us to be a part of that
process. A writer, unlike a speaker usually has things worked out in their head
before hand. This working out of things alongside the reader could be seen as a
sign of reliability because it could be said that Marlow is trying hard to be truthful
so he can work out a correct meaning. He would come to false conclusions if he did
not use the truth to get there.
Conrad lets us experience Marlow s sensations along with
22. How Does Parenting Style Raise Healthy Children
Discussion After looking at several articles I can now determine which parenting
style is more appropriate to raise healthy children. Based on research parents who
have a permissive behavior or lack of interest are less active than those who are
raised by parents who discipline with authoritarian/ authoritative styles. Parenting
styles have to be looked at hand in hand with their eating habits because it would
bring understating to why certain parenting styles have a higher likelihood of being
overweightthan others. Findings from reading the scholarly articles suggest that the
children of parents who monitored and reinforced healthy behaviors ate more healthy
foods and less unhealthy foods, and were more physically active compared with the
23. The Turing Test And The Theory Of Computer System
Can a machine think? Is a long lived question humans have had? If a machine can
think then it must have the same intelligence as a human, then right? If a machine
has human intelligence, then does that mean it has a mind of its own? It is desired
by many humans to know if one day the answers to all these questions could be yes.
In hopes of figuring this out, a testing method was created called the Turing Test. This
test was created by an English mathematician named Alan Turing in the 1940s and
1950s. Alan Turing was interested in the idea of artificial intelligence, or the theory of
computers being able perform tasks like humans. In result of introducing this theory,
Turing developed a testing method called the Turing Test. This would answer the
question Can computers think? The Turing Test consist of three subjects. Two of
these subjects are humans and the other is a computersystem. One human is the
questioner who is required to ask the other two subjects a series of questions. By the
responses of the other two subjects, the questioner has to determine which subject is
the computer, and which one is the human. In order to receive accurate results, the
test is repeated many times. If the computer system is believed to be the human
subject by the questioner, then the computer system is confirmed to have artificial
intelligence. However, questioning must be in a specific style for accurate test
results. Computer systems have an advantage over humans in certain

A Thousand Acres
Finish reading A Thousand Acres, pages 330 371.
ASSIGNMENT: Set up some quiet time with a friend or family member and read
your favorite chapter to them out loud. Then discuss the reading; find out what their
thoughts and perceptions were. Write down responses in your journal. Also, think
about how the language sounded as you spoke it.
MAIN ASSIGNMENT: Write a short essayand, if possible, tape yourself reading the
essay. Describe the land that Ginny lives on. How have her descriptions of this
place, this Thousand Acres changed since the beginning of the story? What events
and characters have caused her feelings to change towards the land? You can create
a video is you want and send your teacher the link to it or upload the video directly to
your teacher.
Ginny s description of the land changes drastically as the events are played out in
Smiley s novel. At first, we see the land as a symbol of wealth, almost as if it is a
field of gold. A farmer s land is a representation of who they are and how they are
viewed in their community. In the Cook s case, the prosperity of their land, it being
flat and fertile portrays them as the picture perfect family who ... Show more content

To Ginny, everything changed and it was obvious in retrospect that she ought to

Memories of being raped by her father are enough for her to hate everything in
relation to the land, but she kept those memories a secret from everyone else in the
community since she was convinced that other people don t want to hear the truth
(Smiley 258). What lies beneath the field of gold are haunting memories which
eventually lead to the ugliness growing on the farm, metaphorically and
25. The Day Of The Dead
El Dia de los Muertos/The Day of the Dead
La ofrenda de los muertos which means the offering of the dead, is the step of a
colorful ritual where an individual and the community are represented by their gifts.
It is a sacred act, but can also be secular. The popular tradition is when the devotion
of the sacred conjoins with the secular practice. Ofrendar (to offer) on the day of the
dead, is to give ones bread, salt, fruits, pastries and water to the deceased and if they
were adults, wine can also be included. By giving, the community comes closer to
the ones that have passed away to reflect with their memory and life. The offering is
a reunion with the ritual that brings about and honors memory. The offering, as
known today, is also a reflection of the syncretism of the old and the new world.
The offering of the dead must have several essential elements in order to be received.
If one of the elements is missing, the spiritual charm that surrounds this religious
heritage is not complete. Each of the following elements has its own history, tradition,
poetry and above all, mysticism.
Water is the source of life and is offered to the souls so they quench their thirst after
their long journey and strengthens them for their return. In some cultures it
symbolizes the purity of the soul. Salt is an element of purification, serves the body
so it is not corrupted, on its trip in returning for the following year. Candles are used
in different forms such as candles or wax. The flame

28. Simmel Metropolis
The Metropolis and Mental Life Georg Simmel is totally and completely right
when he says that our mission in society is not to complain or condone it but rather
to understand it. To be able to understand why someone would massacre a school is
a lot better than complaining or giving it a go ahead. We live in a world we want
to be perfect but can never be. We strive towards a metropolis, but can we actually
strive towards something if it doesn t exist? We ve been looking for the perfect
society for how long now? And we re gonna keep searching for it if we don t
recognize that the problem is us. Simmel says that the deepest problem of modern life
is for the individual to maintain independence and individuality. But for this to happen

I m not against society in certain aspects, but I m very optimistic that one day what
C. Wright Mills calls the sociological imagination will be achieved. Something that
I do like about our society and future metropolis is the order it keeps. The smaller
parts. I liked kept order. Having regulated rules against things like rape and murder
are a good thing. Because you know, we really do need the law against murder,
because it s the number one thing preventing murder . But I draw the line when it
comes to ordering us around and everything erupts, and we re run down into the
ground like lifeless beings. That don t fly. I still feel like the metropolis is an
unreachable goal though, because of milieu. The fact that our social environment
revolves around living in this so called system . I don t see the metropolis as a
society but more or less as some sort of quasi future nazi camp. It all reminds me of
Brave New World . I see everybody taking their SOMA, living it up(but really
society has just tricked them into thinking their living a true life but really they re
being controlled) and having pretty boring ass life. I think of the metropolis as
more of a symbol. But not as a symbol for something like a better future or having
the metropolis be something to strives towards. I think that society itself created the
idea and we lie to ourselves, thinking that oh maybe, just maybe, we ll be able to get
29. The Dangers Of Complacency In The Military
The Dangers of Complacency Complacency is a common theme throughout life
whether it be civilian or military. Merriam Webster defines complacency as a
feeling of being satisfied with how things are and not wanting to try to make them
better: a complacent feeling or condition (Merriam Webster s online dictionary,
n.d.). This state or feeling can be as simple as wanting to maintain the status quo.
While it is important in civilian careers to battle complacency, it is of the utmost
important to remain vigilant against complacency for military members because so
many lives are at stake. This is why it is important for military members, not just
leaders, to identify the dangers of and the ever growing status of complacency
while implementing strategies to prevent and correct complacency. Complacency
Causes Facing the Army One of the most frequent causes of complacency is over
confidence. This can be seen in individuals and units after becoming comfortable
with the operational tempo. One way this is manifested is by skipping Pre Combat
Checks (PCCs) and Pre Combat Inspections (PCIs) because everyone is experienced
and gear no longer needs to be... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Standards are the first line defense and when followed will ensure that individuals
and units are capable and prepared to function in the rigors of combat. Moreover,
keeping Soldiers proactively engaged can reduce complacency. Too much down time
commonly results in not wanting to do anything. By keeping Soldiers active and
engaged with the unit, Soldiers remain motivated and goal oriented. Finally, it is
imperative to continue training. This includes conducting refresher training to ensure
skills are always fresh, but also conducting training that focuses on new or unexpected
events. This type of training encourages individuals and units to constantly prepare
for the unexpected and never settle for what seems adequate at the
30. Dan Buettner s Chapter On Singapore
Dan Buettner s chapter on Singapore was very interesting, especially when
comparing it to our American way of life. At first glance the idea of living in a
country with very strict laws, such as public canings for what we would call a
minor offense, was mind blowing to me. How could this be one of the happiest
places in the world? Upon further study my mind was changed to some degree, in
fact I could see myself visiting there some day, but only have studing on the most
current laws. I think the United Stateswould be better off if we as a nation thought
more about how our individual actions affected those around us. If you were to
visit Singapore, it is highly advised that you first take time and review both their
customs and strict laws. This country is not like any other country you have been to
before. From the time you arrive at Changi International Airport, this difference is
very apparent. You will see go through customs and or immigration, normal and
typical when arriving to a new country, but that is where the similarities end. You
will see numerous signs warning you of the public laws, that you are expected to
obey without question. No photography, smoking, or gum chewing is allowed
(Buettner, 2011, p. 75). Think for a minute how odd this might be. You have just
arrived as a visitor and you cannot chew gum and you are not allowed to take
photographs!? After some further research I have found that this law of gum chewing
has been modified to some degree.
31. Vinegar Lab Report
For this experiment, we used three different types of vinegar (distilled white, white
wine, and champagne) to test the acetic acid within each. Our experiment was aimed
to test the amount of acetic acid within each type of vinegar and compare it to the
amount listed on each bottle. Our research question was, what type of vinegar
contains the most acetic acid? The phenolphthalein indicator turned a light pink color
to indicate when the acidic solution turned neutral due to the addition of titrant. The
goal of this experiment was to test the acetic acid within each bottle to see if our data
matched the value listed on the bottle.

hydroxide got on our skin, we needed to quickly wash it off with water. To start the
experiment, we added 1.5 ml of the first vinegar sample into a volumetric flask and
filled the rest with distilled water, then moved it to an Erlenmeyer flask. Next, we
added 3 drops of the 0.5% phenolphthalein solution to the flask. After, we set up the
buret with the buret clamp and filled the buret with 0.1 M solution of sodium
hydroxide. We then noted the starting level of the sodium hydroxide found in the
buret to calculate the difference in volume following the titration. Next, we placed
the beaker under the buret. After, we started to let the sodium hydroxide leak out
of the buret and swirled the Erlenmeyer flask while under the buret. When the pink
color begins to show up but quickly disappear, we slowed the buret to a drop by
drop pace. When the solution turned a very light pink and stayed at that color, we
stopped the flow of sodium hydroxide. Next, we removed the Erlenmeyer flask from
under the buret then, we recorded the level of titrant

For my heritage fair I decided to research George Etienne Cartier, who if you haven
t heard about was a lawyer, rebel, politician and railway promoter whose
contributions to Confederation were on the same level as figures like John A.
Macdonald and George Brown(Sweeny). If you haven t heard of any of these
people, then don t worry I ll be going into length on all of them. Furthermore, if you
were wondering why I chose this topic to research, I would truthfully tell you that
the only reason I chose George Etienne Cartier was because he was as good a topic
as anything else, so personally I didn t care about the topic. But as I put more
research into the topic I came to realize just how important George Etienne Cartier
was to Canada. Not just in his efforts towards Confederation but also the work he
put into preserving French culture and identity in Canada to railway development.
Of course this isn t as exciting as many other topics, but without George Cartier s
legacy and contributions we would most likely not be where we are today. In this
report I will be covering the life of George Etienne Cartier, including his early life,
background, political life before and after Confederation.

Soft drinks should be taxed
Considering that soft drink are one of the most popular drinks to a lot of people all
around the world, unfortunately, a lot of them love to drink it almost every day and
may not live without it. Soda becomes addictive, preventing one from drinking what
the body needs the most which is water. In the market, there is an infinite amount of
choices with multiple varieties of flavors, different tastes, and ranges from classic
soda to diet soda. However, consumers do not recognize clearly the negative effect of
soft drinks that have a high chance of eroding their health away. Some of these
examples include dental erosion, energy intake, obesity and other health issues. In

It is a huge amount of sugar. Scientists started studies on the soft drink consumption
and linked that amount of sugar in the soft drink to dental erosion, increase energy
intake and related to obesity. We found clear associations of soft drink intake with
increased energy intake and body weight. Soft drink intake also was associated
with lower intakes of milk, calcium, and other nutrients and with an increased risk
of several medical problems (e.g., diabetes) said Lenny R. Vartanian Generally,
tooth become weakened when you lack the minerals that are needed. The higher
the acidic level is within your consumption can be very brutal, it can make your
tooth s enamel softer and weaken your tooth strength. You end up lacking calcium,
which is supposed to make your bones stay strong. Soft drinks have highest sugar
and acid, yet lower pH level compared to water. It takes 32 glasses of water to
neutralize a glass of cola (Radomski, 40). Citric acid in cola makes a weakness of
dental, changing the neutralization of saliva and destroys enamel surface as Ph.D.
Manny explained the article Soft drinks and dental erosion, Citric acid is the
predominant acid in non cola drinks and is especially erosive to teeth because it
collates calcium effectively (Radomski, 41). If a kid drink a can of soda every day,
his enamel will be declining, stained teeth and cavities and plaque will start to build
their teeth.
35. Dna Repair Mechanisms And Cell Cycle Control
Saccharomyces cerevisiaes, or baker s yeasts, unicellular fungi are useful in
understanding genetics and molecular biology, due to the ability to quickly map a
phenotype producing gene to a region in their genome. Yeast mutants are used a tool
for the study of cellular function, DNA repair mechanisms and cell cycle control. As
a model organism, S. cerevisiae is one of the simplest eukaryote organism, having
not only most major signaling pathways conserved, but also consisting of a genome
of approximately 12.1 million base pairs in sixteen chromosomes. S. cerevisiaes, like
other model organisms, have properties that make them suitable for biological
studies: rapid growth, easy mutant isolation, a sequenced genetic system and a
versatile DNAtransformation system, as homologous recombination is used almost
exclusively as their DNA repair mechanism. Fully sequenced back in 1996 by Francis
Collins, yeast genes are easily engineered and, through bioinformatics and Next
Generation Sequencing, are used to investigate the possible genefunctions of all the
different genes in the yeast genome. This is done by studying the phenotype of
strains with disrupted genes, caused by gene knockout or mutations. Furthermore, S.
cerevisiaes are useful as a genome reference towards the sequencing of higher
eukaryotic genes. These characteristics allow yeasts to be easily exploited for the
analysis of gene regulation and the systemic analyses of structure to function
relationships of proteins.
36. What Is The Main Conflict In Cyrano De Bergerac
The movie, Roxanne, based off the classical play Cyrano de Bergerac is a
hysterical comedy about a man named C.D who falls in love with a girl named
Roxanne. Roxanne falls in love with C.D s personality, but another man s
appearance. To make this movie comedic, the director, Fred Schepisi, modernized
the movie and incorporated famous actors and actresses in it, such as Steve Martin
and Daryl Hannah. Overall, I like the movie because it took a classical play with a
well developed plot and made an amusing movie out of it. The main conflict in the
movie Roxanne is C.D loves Roxanne, but Roxanne loves Chris. C.D is intelligent,
but unattractive because of his abnormally large nose. On the other hand, Chris is
unintelligent and handsome. At... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
C.D also symbolized the character Cyrano because he is intelligent and brave. C.D s
intelligence is shown when he talks to Roxanne about astronomy and his bravery
is shown when climbs the houses. In addition to being intelligent and brave, C.D
is easily insulted when someone talks bad about his nose, just like in the play. In
the beginning of the movie, people make fun of C.D s abnormally large nose and
C.D beats them up. When a guy tells C.D he has a big nose C.D tells him twenty
other ways he could have insulted his nose. Another element the director
incorporated in the movie was the fact C.D and Chris are firefighters, which is
similar to them being soldiers in Cyrano. Besides being a firefighter, Chris
symbolizes Christine because he is the new to the town, he is handsome, and
unintelligent. Also, Chris and C.D team up to win Roxanne s heart and C.D writes
the letters to Roxanne for Chris. When C.D tries to tell Chris what to say through
the earpiece, the earpiece stops working and Chris ends up speaking without C.D s
help. Similar to the play, Chris ends up screwing his relationship with Roxanne
when he doesn t use C.D s words. C.D ends up fixing the relationship when he talks
to Roxanne during the night in the shadows and just like the play Roxanne
recognizes C.D s voice in the end. Also, when Chris and Roxanne are

The word pathogen comes from the Greek words pathos , meaning to suffer and
genus to cause. Indeed a pathogen can be defined as an agent causing disease in the
host. Although the human immune system has evolved to deal with encountered
infectious agents, the pathogens evolve alongside making it a race of who stays on
top. Looking at the variety of the modern worlds disease causing agents one could
say, that perfect pathogens will be those, that remain an issue despite human efforts
to eradicate them or those that cause the most death cases. Yet the pathogens only
purpose is to multiply in number and spread, thus one could be looking at the
number of new cases as a possible measure of pathogenicity. A perfect pathogen

During a viral infection the virus will firstly attach to a specific receptor on the
hosts cell surface by the capsid or envelope triggering a cascade of events allowing
it to enter the cell. For example the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) attaches
to the CD4 receptor found on T helper cells with the 120 kDa envelope protein and
then fuses with it via the 41 kDa envelope protein . Afterwards, the virus uncoats
itself and releases the genome into the hosts cytoplasm. Depending on the type of
virus the mode of replication will vary, the virus will either encode its own DNA
polymerase and accessory proteins, this usually happens when the virus has the
genetic material as RNA, for example the influenza virus. Or it will recruit the
hosts DNA polymerase to produce mRNA, as does the human papilloma virus. The
genome will then either migrate to the cell nucleus where it incorporates into the
host cell DNA or remains in the cytoplasm. Lastly, retroviruses containing RNA in
their capsids will encode for reverses transcriptase to produce DNA from the viral
RNA, and then will insert the DNA into the hosts genome ex. HIV. The virus will
then enclose the newly formed viral proteins to form mature particles, which then
bud off from the host cell or lyse the infected cell. The latter usually leads to cell
death. For example the latent membrane protein 1 gene in Epstein Barr virus has
been shown to mimic a necrosis

Watery eyes, flaring nostrils, flailing limbs, and the temper of a furious bull, your
child is having a horrendous tantrum. Even though you ve taught them morals and
positive values, this seems to recurring issue. There is one question all parents
must ask themselves, What kind of outside influences am I allowing my child to
govern themselves with on a daily basis? These days, boys and girls alike face the
incessant impact of society in their social, intellectual, emotional, and behavioral
lives. This influence starts at a young age with the toys and games our little tykes
surround themselves with. By avoiding specific toys, you should be able to steer

task they face. Many say educational toys are the best way to go because it

decreased capacity of danger to the public. In addition, it will provide for more
safety precautions and ensure those exotic animals in captivity are provided for
every day. The first step in our process of analyzing the recommendations of exotic
petownership in Missouri was researching the current regulations in other states and
what was working and not working in those states. Currently, every state has varying
regulations and within those states, many cities and counties have assorted
regulations as well. Based on the success of the drastic changes the state of Ohio has
made in the exotic animal ownership regulations, their platform for change is one to

the 2011 incidence of Terry Thompson, who set free his exotic animal farm of fifty
plus animals before committing suicide. This incident pushed the already in question
exotic pet ownership regulations into national limelight. Our task force has
researched the current restrictions and the process of implementing them along with
the undesirable potential side effects of these new laws. With this information, we
were prepared to present a solid foundation for the state of Missouri to create a new

for premature death and composed of nearly 4% of all deaths worldwide (World

of new medications for AUD, currently there are only 3 FDA approved treatments
on the market, all of which have only yielded limited success even when combined
with psychosocial support (Harris et al., 2010; Litten e al., 2012). This is evident by
the high rates of uncontrolled heavy drinking that continue to persist and the high
relapse rate in patients even after long term inpatient treatment and support

approaches that allow for rapid development of new and effective medication to
treat and/or prevent AUD is an important public health goal (Bouchery et al., 2011;

How long had it been since you had seen your father? There was no way to tell time

43. Rhetorical Analysis Of Trump s Campaign Announcement
With the 2016 Presidential Election roughly a year away, all eyes and ears are turned
towards the candidates, one in particular being Republican Donald Trump. In Trump
s Campaign Announcement, not only did he generalize and insult a country, but he
also fed the U.S. public misleading information.
Trump begins his speech by rallying the public using we as a constant reminder of
our universal bond of being U.S. citizens. By using a group mentality, Trump is able
to successfully use ethos to invoke a response for the group the United States
citizens. In order for Trump to gain the public s approval, he must first make
everyone feel connected with him. For instance, in one of Trump s opening lines, he
attempts to create a crowd frame of mind by saying, Our country is in serious
trouble. We don t have victories anymore. We used to have victories, but we don t
have them (Donald Trump Transcript: Our Country Needs a Truly Great Leader).
The individuals who wrote the speech for Trump did not say we and our by accident,
their purpose was to persuade the public how Donald Trump the multi millionaire
business tycoon can be relatable to anyone in the crowd.
Donald Trump then began to walk on a tightrope when addressing immigrants from
Mexico. In his speech, Trump begins to test waters about immigrants from Mexico
by claiming, They re sending people that have lots of problems, and they re bringing
those problems with us. They re bringing drugs. They re bringing

46. Greek Treatment Of Women In Medea By Euripides
A Greek Tragedy, Medea, by Euripides gives a backstory on the life of an
adventurer and a woman madly in love. Previous Greek tragedies state that Jason,
the love of Medea s life only loves her in order to retrieve the Golden Fleece to
retain his rightful throne. His encounter with Medea results to him agreeing to marry
her so that she could assist him in his journey. Medeaholds great power and
judgement as a sorceress. The beginning of the play told by the nurse synopsizes the
story of Medea s melodramatic situation. Euripidesillustrates her differently as a
woman in her society during her time of era. They may be seen as victims, heroes,
and villains. In further explanation, Medea s origin seems to be unusual to Greek
standards. She comes from a royal family in the land of Colchis. Through Greek
standards, women were meant to be housewives, cooking and cleaning. They had
no say in their society due to men holding a higher status; in fact Euripides
criticizes the male domination of society. It appears that men are seen as imbeciles.
For example, King Creon made a wrong mistake not exiling Medea right then and
there. By allowing her to stay her plans are set for action; Now if you must stay, stay

Back then woman were shown as insignificant to Greek men; but when women
made appearances in tragedies, their performance consisted of complex roles.
They often took the role of major characters as they made impersonations of
victims, heroes, and villains. Evidence from Medea refers to these impersonation.
As a hero, Medea is the daughter of Aeetes, King of Colchis, therefore since she is
a royal she may be considered a tragic hero. As a victim, Medea goes through an
unsettling situation amongst her partner which explains her reason for being upset,

47. Who Is Responsible For Macbeths Downfall
Reasons for Macbeths Downfall Foul is fair and fair is foul (I.i.12), this quote is
spoken by the three witches in the beginning of Shakespeare s Macbeth. In this story
Macbeth commits murder multiple times in order to secure the crown. Macbeth was
not completely at fault for these sins however. One party responsible for Macbeths
sins are the three witches, these hags are seen multiple times throughout the story and
give Macbethinformation that they had gained through they re visions. Had Macbeth
not been told this information by the witches then he wouldn t have had the reason
to do the crimes that he did. Without the witch s prophesy then he never would have
killed King Duncan for the throne because without the promise of the throne there
was no incentive. He was a loyal servant of the kingdom and previously wouldn t
have even dreamt of killing Duncan. It s obvious that he was a loyal servant to the
throne because in the war it is mentioned that he was a brave and valiant fighter for

When Macbeth told her about the witch s prophesy about his eventual fortune she
encouraged him to take the life of Duncan who was at the time a guest at her and
Macbeths home. At the times that Macbeth was struggling to find the conviction to
kill his ruler Lady Macbeth was always there to wear away his morals. This starts
the process of Macbeths moral degradation which eventually lead him to become a
monster who killed multiple people. This makes sense because people rarely will do

Contractual standards under which new recruits joining the Army apply through

tempo, we have spent a lot of time discussing what we believe to be lax standards.
Serving as a detailed recruiter has changed my perception of what I felt I knew, and
opened my eyes to the Army s plan for the future. The challenges we face may not
necessarily be those that we see right in front of us. Rather the challenge is what are
we leaving behind when we depart the service? The Army spends vast amounts of
money every year in the recruitment, and training of new recruits every year. The

The Army s new Occupational Physical Assessment Test has been the answer. The

Barbie and the Notion of Progression Since the emergence of the Barbie doll in
1959, Barbie has been a populous choice among young children, and more
specifically young girls because of its monopolization of the toy market. Barbie is a
doll that has been outwardly controversial and debated upon for years and most
likely will be for many years to come. The idea of the Barbie doll is a toy for which
young girls model themselves after and aspire to be like when they mature and grow

My first thoughts of Buffalo State, I had many different ideas on what I should
expect. First I was very excited to step foot in a place that I never been. I love
experiencing new places. Considering I never been to the Buffalo State college or
even orientation I expected the best. I figured the campus be beautiful and very
spacy. I researched facts about BuffaloState and I was very surprised to see how
many students attended. I love the fact that the college presented a lot of diversity.
I also expected that the college life would be very social since I asked the former
students of Buffalo State about it. Of course I was a little nervous that there was a
little chance that it May not be anything close to what I expected. The helping
hands on the college life I expected would be top notch since there were so many
students living on campus. When I received the letter that I would be attending the
EOP program which I applied for I was very excited. I wasn t really sure exactly
what EOP actually was but I hoped for the best. My mom gave me a brief
description on what the program was. I didn t like the fact that it was three weeks
long and the first thing that came to my mind when I heard that was my summer
was coming to an end quite early. I didn t think too negative about it but I hoped
that it gave me all the tips I needed to know about the college and the college life on

53. Essay Comparing The Passionate Shepherd To His Love
And...
The poems The Passionate Shepherd to His Love , The Nymph s Reply to The
Shepherd , and Raleigh Was Right by Christopher Marlowe, Sir Walter Raleigh and
William Carlos Williams, respectively, all share and develop a commentary of the
ephemeral nature of the world around us, revealing what they believe serves as
impermanent pleasures in an impermanent life. While Marlowe s poem has a
different view than the other two poems, it is here the theme of experiencing the
good parts of life, and more specifically nature, is started, and idealized. The next
two poems, by Raleigh and Williams, respond and expand upon Marlowe s viewpoint
on the pleasures and treasures he mentions.

Just one year later, a poem published had a direct response.
The poem The Nymph s Reply to The Shepherd , by Sir Walter Raleigh, responds to
Marlowe s poem directly, from the point of view of the Love that was being spoken
to. The themes introduced in the first poem have an entirely different take here, and
are adapted and developed quite differently with the views of the speaker from The
Passionate Shepherd to His Love essentially disagreed with entirely. The following
excerpt captures the rejection of the views of the first speaker:
If all the world and love were young,
And truth in every Shepherd s tongue,
These pretty pleasures might me move,
To live with thee, and be thy love. (Raleigh 1 4)
With that statement in line two, it is clear the the viewpoint of Raleigh s speaker
is that the optimistic view of the world is false and idealized. The poem further
objects to Marlowe s speaker s views by denying the lasting greatness of all the gifts

Globalization means to develop or be developed to make possible international
influence or operation. Hong Kong has been going through many changes recently
which is slowly forcing them to globalize. The globalization of Hong Kong was a
key series of events that has taken place in recent years that has significantly changed
how Hong Konghas developed. Hong Kong has seen changes in their food culture,
global customs and various western products have massively affected their Chinese
culture in more ways than one.
As I stated before, globalization means to develop or be developed to make possible
international influence or operation. The globalization in Hong Kong has been
slowly but progressively working across its borders. As of 2015 Hong Kong has
been at the top in the Globalization Index. In the 1980s Hong Kong pushed a large
amount of its capital and entrepreneurial expertise into its neighbor China. It has been

Abstract To collect data on the primary succession as new sand dunes form from the
waters of Lake Michigan. To examine hypotheses relating to the progression of
succession through facilitation and other species interactions and to examine how
biotic and abiotic rigor change through time as succession proceeds. To further
examine these concepts, we have gathered and conducted five tests. Our first
experiment dealt with soildevelopment, to show how soil changes and developments
have advanced throughout the dunes. A second experiment has been taken to show
the variations in diversity among the five dunes. The third was to examine percent
coverage amongst stages to see how the species are influenced by their environment.
A fourth to examine the proportions of grasses and forbs to understand the properties
of grasses on late succession. Last, we examined how counts of focal species change
with duneage among herbaceous species and woody species.
Results show that organic material increased among different stages of succession.
When measuring diversity, by the Simpson diversity index, D value in which it
accounted for individual s richness and abundance (evenness). With this, the results
have shown an increase in diversity as each dune goes further back in age. With
percent coverage, results conclude and show that there is an irregular percent
coverage when we have moved along the dunes. Outcomes for the fourth test have
indicated a decrease in grasses to forbs as the dunes
