to guide the reader through the essay without causing confusion or disruption.

Review on Repair in The Handbook of Conversation Analysis by Celia Kitzinger
Repair is a field of study in conversation analysis, and several linguists had been
working on this topic since 1970s. This chapter from The Handbook of Conversation
Analysis focuses on the domain of repair, introducing current research results about
the various types of repair made in speech, making it clear for readers who might not
have much knowledge in this field. Consequently, possible functions and sequence of
these repairing acts are described and explained with ample easy to understand
examples. The researches cited in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She claimed that repair is performed so as to fine tune a turn, in order to perform
certain actions which the speaker intends to achieve. She mentioned upgrading and
downgrading the force of action as one of the possible interactional uses of repair. I
do agree with this point since we may sometimes mistakenly make an extreme
comment on an event or a thing at first and we would try to downgrade that to a
milder word in order to avoid misunderstandings or even arguments. Thus, I believe
repairing may carry social functions in certain
Charles Vyse s New Partnership History
Vyse s New Partnership The evolving partnership of Charles Vyse and Barbara
Waller (1949 1951) would prove to be exacting and industrious. From the Cheyne
Row studio, they produced a number of animal and figure models, alongside a
range of Chinese inspired high fired, ash glazed stoneware vessels. Whether by
design or accident, much of the figurative work of Vyse and Waller partnership,
would in the future, prove problematical for collectors. At this remove, it is difficult
to attribute some figures and vessels, either jointly or individually. It is impossible to
assign specific tasks, such as modelling, decorating, and glazing, to either of the
partners. To compound the conflict of attribution, there are occasions when both Vyse

Plato Dualism
Dualism is the division of two entities. However, in the case of philosophy, dualism
is expanded upon this definition and is focused on the separation of the mind and the
body. There are several different types of dualism that deal with the mind and body.
There are substance dualists and property dualists and within these different types of
dualism, there are more subcategories within them. For instance, in the substance
dualism, there are interactionists, occasionalists, parallelists, and epiphenomenalists.
All of these subcategories believe that the mindis not the same as the brain and that
the mind is not a creation of the brain. Plato and Descartes believed in these two
common features of dualism as well. Although they had similar approaches... Show

Descartes used Leibniz s Law of Identity to prove that the mind and the body are
considered to be different because they didn t have the same properties. The
Leibniz s Law of Identity states that if two articles have identical properties, then
the articles must be identical. The same can be said if the articles were not
identical. Descartes had used the property of divisibility to illustrate the difference
between the body and the mind. For instance, when one loses an arm, it is
theoretically possible for the rest of the body to still exist. However, divisibility is
difficult to use when it comes to the mind. For instance, it is impossible for
someone to feel half depressed. The mind cannot be divided up like how a body
can. Another property that is different between the mind and the body is the ability
to take up space. Since the body has the capacity to take up volume and a mind does
not have this capacity, they are considered to have different property. Thus, the
differences allow the mind and body to be separate
Freshman Composition Analysis
The first day I walked into Freshman Composition I had the idea that everything
assigned was going to be extremely frustrating and difficult, as this is a college class.
Equally important, my expectations for the class was to earn at least a B, further my
writing abilities, and learn more about college. As the semester started, I noticed that
my writingwas not at the college level and I needed to learn how to improve it.
Along with improving my writing, I was also able to learn about college life. With

Put another way, I need to add more vocabulary words into my writing in order for
the essay to sound mature. Another improvement I need is to manage my time better
and make a schedule for writing. Furthermore, I understand academic writing is best
when a person uses metacognition. In other words, when a person thinks about what
they want to write about before they actually write, then the writing will sound
planned out and thorough. Also, academic writing sounds better when there are
transition words or phrases in between sentences, otherwise the writing might
sound choppy and childish. With the help of Freshman Composition, I learned
more about what college will be like and what to expect in college classes. Equally
important, I learned a little more about what I would like to pursue as a career, with
the help of Ms. Scarbrough. Moreover, as I have thought about my future, I also
learned I do not like to take sides on argumentation, as I had a difficult time writing
the last essay without putting my own opinion in too

Grandma Maddy s Recipe For A Hippopotamus Sandwich
Due to their similar structure and content Grandma Maddy s Spoon Bread
Casserole and Recipe for a Hippopotamus Sandwich by Shel Silverstein seem very
similar. The two pieces of writing are even hard to distinguish between. However
the two do have a difference, Recipe for a Hippopotamus Sandwich is actually a
poem for several reasons. It contains bizarre ingredients, literary devices, and no one
has ever actually made a Hippopotamus Sandwich. Grandma Maddy s Soup Bread
Casserole lists a serving size, the amount and types of ingredients needed, and gives
instructions on how to mix the ingredients together and how long to let them cook
for. Although Recipe for a Hippopotamus Sandwich also lists ingredients and
instructions on how to make something; it still isn t an actual recipe.... Show more

Another component that differentiates the two pieces of writing from one another is
the use of literary elements in Recipe for a Hippopotamus Sandwich. For example,
the poem is written in twelve stanzas and contains rhymes throughout the stanzas. A
hippo sandwich is easy to make. All you do is simply take. , the beginning of the
poem starts with that rhyming sequence. In poetry, dashes are often used to indicate
an abruptly unfinished thought or remark, just like the one used in stanza nine
leading into the thought in stanza ten. A dash of pepper That ought to do it. The
use of ellipses can also indicate a pause, hesitation, or unfinished thought.
Silverstein decided to use ellipses in the eleventh stanza in order to indicate
hesitation before the final stanza. And now come the problem... Biting into it! The
literary devices used in Recipe for a Hippopotamus Sandwich are commonly used in
all forms of poetry. The lack of literary devices in Grandma Maddy s Spoon Bread
Casserole makes it evident that the piece of writing is not a
Salem Witch Trial
The Salem Witch Trials were held in Salem, Massachusetts during the end of 1692
and the beginning of 1693. These were a series of trials and prosecutions of
suspected witches. Most of these supposed witches were women but some were men.
These people were accused of making local children ill by practicing witchcraft. The
children claimed to be possessed by the devil and gave names of witches who did
this to them. This struck a fear through the whole town. Everyone became scared of
being named a witch. After the witches were accused, there were trials in the
courtroom to determine their guilt. If they were found guilty, they were punished.
The majority of the retributions were by hanging, some also died in jail, and one was

In A Brief History of the Salem Witch Trials it shows that Governor Phipps said It
were better that ten suspected witches should escape rather than one innocent
person be condemned ( Blumberg ). This just shows that he was tired of innocent
people dying. He thought that it would be better to save the innocent people and
potentially lose some bad people, instead of catching all of the bad. So he decided
to get rid of the Special Court of Oyer and Terminer. He replaced this court with a
Superior Court of Judicature. This court only found 3 in 56 people that were
accused, actually guilty. A large reason there were so few convicted was the fact
that this court was not allowed to use dreams and visions as evidence to convict. In
addition to creating this new court, the Governor also released several accused
witches and prohibited any more arrests. Most of the people that were involved in the
trials apologized shortly after the trials
The Intent Behind the Enuma Elish (Creation Epic) Essay
The Intent Behind the Enuma Elish
The Enuma Elish, often known as The Creation Epic, is often considered the primary
source of Mesopotamian cosmology. However, to view the Enuma Elish as a
cosmological myth obscures the true intent of the epicГs author. The cosmological
elements of the Enuma Elish are secondary to the authorГs effort to explain the
supremacy of Marduk, to justify absolute oriental monarchy, and to defend Babylon
as the axis mundi.
The Enuma Elish was composed in Babylonin the early second millennium B.C.E.
The decay of Sumerian civilization allowed the Old Babylonian Empire to become
the cultural and political center of Mesopotamia. Babylon was governed by absolute
and despotic kings capable of wielding ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, the transfer of power to Babylon is illustrated by the subjugation of all
gods to the rule of Marduk. After erecting a throne for Marduk, the gods proclaim,
Thou art (the most) important of the great gods; Thy destiny is unequaled, thy
command is (like that of) AnuГ–To thee we have given kingship over the totality of
the whole universe ( Enuma Elish, 36). This statement reflects the reality of the
times. During the writing of the Enuma Elish the Old Babylonian Empire weilded
supreme power in Mesopotamia.
Moreover, the recognition MardukГs absolute rule is etiological in relation to the
power of the Babylonian kings. According to Assyriologist Benjamin Foster, the
Enuma Elish explains the evolution from early government by elders to absolute
monarchy. As the battle between Marduk and Tiamat illustrates, Foster notes the
catalyst for this change is portrayed as outside threat calling for a war leader. The
leader demanded, as his terms for leadership, absolute obedience, even when the
threat of war was removed (Foster, 9).
Once the writer of the Enuma Elish set forth the supremacy of the Babylonian God
and the precedent for earthly monarchy, he/she turned to the task of translating divine
superiority to earthly. The process of translating divine power to earthly power
begins on line 50 of Tablet IV of the Enuma Elish. Grateful for MardukГs leadership,
the gods construct the

Macbeth And The Supernatural
Macbeth is a play that is well known for its variety of supernatural elements,
including the witches, the ghost of Banquo, the goddess Hecate, hallucinations,
madness, magic and of course the prophecies. Macbeth has the supernatural tied in to
it in many ways. This play is saturated with the supernatural, all the plot within this
play was either initiated by a supernatural creature or the product of supernatural
influence, and the play has even become a supernatural entity itself. In fact, the play
s name is often forbidden to be said on stage or is called the Scottish play since it is

He does this because the witches say that Banquo will father kings. So he assumes
that by having Fleance killed he will never take the throne and if Banquo is dead
then he can t father any other kings. If not for the witches prophecies Macbeth
wouldn t have even contemplated having Banquo and his son killed. After that
Macbeth next has his outburst at supper after the death of Banquo. He begins to
yell and act crazily, which of course is not proper etiquette for a newly appointed
king. This also makes the thanes wary and suspicious. But all of this happens
because Macbeth is seeing Banquo s ghost. Ghosts are certainly something
supernatural and it is understandable for a guilty, partially insane man to violently
react to his best friend s silent ghost. Next we have Macbeth s first truly pointless
murder: Lady Macduff and her young children. His only reason for having them
slaughtered is to prove a point to Macduff, who has fled to England. However,
before this happens Macbeth was speaking to the witches, who warn him to beware
Macduff. Macbeth then tries to do something to hurt Macduff, what he does is
cruel, but brought on by the witches ultimately. This brings us to the final battle.
Macbeth vs Macduff. Macbeth, because of the witches warnings decides he can
kill anyone, that no man born of woman can harm him. He goes out in to battle
believing this. If he had not, or if the witches never said it, he could have
participated in siege warfare, which could have left a much different outcome on
Macbeth s life. We can blame the supernatural for Macbeth s murder of Duncan. The
murder of Banquo and attack on Fleance. Macbeth losing the respect and allegiance
of his thanes. The murder of Lady Macduff and her children. And even ultimately the
death of Macbeth himself. Since the supernatural is to blame for all of these
necessary plot points, we cannot say that the play Macbeth would be
Homeland Security And Homeland Defense Essay
Homeland security and homeland defense. Both have similar titles and can be
regarded as the same thing. By definition however they are two separate sides of the
coin that keep the United States regulated and protected against the threats from both
the inside and outside. Homeland security is defined simply as a combination of law
enforcement, disaster, immigration, and terrorismissues and is the prime responsibly
of civilian agencies at all levels. Homeland defense is defined as, the protection of
the United StatesSovereignty, territory, domestic population, and critical defense

First of I will start talking about the problems they faced at YouTube was facing.
YouTube has faced a lot of problems in its life time so far and the main issues they
faced were with scalability. The main reason YouTube faced so many issues was due
to its large and rapid growth, YouTube went from a small websiteto a technology
giant and large player in the IT industry practically overnight. The solution to

At YouTube the use of pythonmakes doing this easier as the dynamic nature of
python makes it easier to do. In other words no matter how bad your API is you can
stub or modify or decorate your way out of a lot of problems .
Other scalability techniques used by YouTube would be to say that they cheated a
little or to say instead of data being correct it is approximate correctness. What is
meant by cheating is that not all of their servers are consistent at the same time a
good example of this is that if a user writes a comment on a video then instead
deploying that comment to all servers in the network and keeping all data consistent
what they have done at YouTube is they done it so that the system does not have to
have globally worldwide consistent transactions. Meaning that when the a user rights
a comment on a video he/she sees that comment instantly however someone on the
other side of the world may not see that comment for a couple milliseconds, in other
words the cheat. The data will be consistent in the end, the comments are not financial
transaction therefore it is essential that you know when to cheat, for example if it was
a financial transaction where a user is purchasing something then it is not good
enough for the data must be consistent. Another main part of the cheating technique
is knowing when to fake data, for example to say that The fastest function call is the

Human Abuse In The Galapagos Islands
The Galapagos islands are home to many endemic species such as the various
species of tortoise often associated with them. What they are known less for is the
large quantity of invasive species that also now inhabit the island thanks to man
coming to and from the island with only himself in mind. Since this issue has been
noticed, transport to and from the islands has become quite regulated and limited in
the hopes of slowing this disaster in the works. This is seeming to work but it isn t
unlikely that all threats will be eradicated since humans will inevitably inhabit the
island (Santoso, 2014). This human presence will always be a problem but some
have chosen to work towards retribution. With over 1,000 invasive speciesnow

The goat s appetite is also the main problem, they are literally eating everything on
the islands, leaving them barren. Action has already been taken on a rather extreme
level. Project Isabela was launched in 1997 with the goal of exterminating every feral
goat with a clean shot to the head or the heart (Hirsch, 2013). Highly skilled game
wardens were trained and implemented with helicopters and GIS mapping to employ
aerial hunting and scanning to hunt all goats to extinction on the islands. The goats
quickly associated the helicopters with death and began hiding from them. Judas
goats were then introduced. A Judas goat is a female goat injected with hormones
designed to keep her in heat draw out males in hiding (Galapagos Conservancy,
2008). Increases in vegetation are already being seen on the islands of project
Isabela. The task at hand is so huge that 18 years later goats are still being hunted. It
has been found, however, that local fishermen have been known to release more
goats onto the islands to retaliate against the government for fishing regulations that
they don t agree with. This is clearly an issue Santoso foresaw with her disdain for

After much discussion at the corporate level, a thorough review of the alternatives
with
TAP s board of directors, and gaining preliminary agreement from union leaders, we
ve made the difficult decision to shut down the product lines and customer divisions
that cater to these low performing segments and focus only on luxury and economy
car makers. Most of the plants affected will be in the U.S., leaving the majority of the
facilities in Europe and Asia intact
(see Exhibits 6a and 6b). We have not made this decision lightly, but we feel it is

The Internet And The Rights Of Private Citizens
The Internet and the Rights of Private Citizens
Good afternoon Ladies and Gentleman.
Today I would like to discuss a few of the laws that govern one of the world s
greatest assets, the Internet. It is the finest source of inspired, diverse, enabling and
democratizing communication ever to tie people across the globe together. Anyone
with some simple computer equipment can communicate their ideas to countless
people at one time through what can truly be called the world s first true mass media.
Serving as a tool for community organizing and citizen participation it stimulates
tolerance and encourages mutual consideration by joining people from all over the
world. It is multifaceted indispensible tool for freedom.

The Communications Decency Act (CDA) was written to stop and or target online
obscenity and child pornography, however, these types of speech were previously
illegal under other current federal laws. According to the CDA it is a crime to send,
display or view any content considered to be that is considered indecent or patently
offensive. Problem arises in the useable definitions of indecent and patently offensive.
In the past, the CDA has banned and attempted to prosecute constitutionally protected
speech on the Internet on topics like sexuality, reproduction, civil liberties, and
human rights. There were multiple lawsuits and court cases after President Clinton
signed this bill into law in 1996. Various online communication users and providers
from political, educational, medical, artistic, and social value venues were all
possible targets for prosecution under CDA. This government censorship was
unnecessary because there are already laws and filtering technologies in place to
protect children in schools and libraries. Parents also have access to screening and
filtering technology to protect their children if they choose to use them. Parents can
also limit computer access and be diligent about scrutinizing where their children go
on the Internet. The CDA s law banning indecent and patently offensive material is an
Theme Of Love And War In Antigone
Love and Bloodshed
The ancient Greeks somehow linked together two aspects of life that seem to be
exact opposites. Love and war, as Aphrodite was the mistress of ares, the god of war.
In the play Antigone one of a trilogy, Antigone wishes for nothing more than to bury
her deceased brother: However, that is the one thing her uncle, Creon, wants the least.
There is a clearly defined relationship between love and war in Antigone, and it is a
rather toxic relationship. In the play, the reader observes multiple views on a
spectrum. On one end is Law (war, or result from the war between the two brothers),
on the other is love. Creon obviously believes in the beginning that it is every man
for himself, Antigone believes that family comes before the law, and Ismene struggles
between the two.
On the law side of the spectrum is where we discover Creon. Creon was the uncle of
the children of Oedipus, but when Oedipus sons killed each other in battle, Creon
became the king. A question is imposed, did Creon want both of his own nephews
to die so he would be able to assume the throne and take power? This would be
viewed as morally incorrect by most and convinces the readers more than he puts law
over family. The reader also observe this when he forbids a burial of Polynices, Creon
states Polyneices I say, is to have no burial: no man is to touch him or to say the
least prayer for him; He shall lie on the plain, unburied; and the birds and the
scavenging dogs can do
Correctional Facilities And The Correctional Facility
Introduction
The correctional facilities in the United States of America are composed of operators
that own or manage correctional facilities and halfway houses. Correctional facilities
serve to confine and rehabilitate prisoners and may be classified as minimum,
medium or maximum security facilities. The prisoners contained in the facilities may
participate in educational and vocational programs as well as in paid programs or
work release programs through the industry. Correctional facilities are subject to state
and federal laws. The U.S constitution promises certain minimum standards of living
for the people incarcerated in the correctional facilities. Inhumane and abusive

Upcoming government budgets will cause these entities to transfer inmates to private
facilities. With a marginal increase in incarceration rates, the correctional facility
industry will continue to enlarge. As Government contracts have increased in size
and gone to larger industry players which facilitate expansion, the industry has
increased concentration in the past five years. This has provoked the largest industry
players to grow in both size and scope.
Industry Disadvantages
As prisons burst at seams, states seek alternatives to imprisonment. The nation s
overall inmate population is growing rapidly, correctional facilities have an excess
of 385,000 prisoners. One out of every 590 Americans is behind bars in state, county
or federal correctional facilities. During the past decade, the inmate population has
doubled in size. U.S public officials are shocked to hear that the number of prison
inmates has increased a record 13.7% in the past thirty years. The increase in
prisoners is attributed to the toughening of sentencing laws and mandatory
incarceration for certain offenses. Most correctional facilities have long since
exceeded or reached capacity. About two thirds of the United States are under court
order to reduce prison overcrowding or upgrade inmate living conditions. The federal
government and 47 states have expanded
Characteristics Of The Mockingbird
Research Paper Rough Draft
The common, or northern, mockingbird is well known as a mimic; it has been known
to imitate the songs of 20 or more species within 10 minutes ( Mockingbird ). The
complexity of the mockingbird can be best understood by looking at their
characteristics/ interesting facts, the way they migrate and their singing.
Mockingbirds are interesting birds and have some interesting facts and characteristics
about them that can make them unique and different from other birds. Some basic
characteristics about the northern mockingbird are that they are 27 cm (or 10.5
inches) long ( Mockingbird ). They are also known to have slender bodies
(Sullivan). The mockingbird has different colors and color patterns. Brian L.
Sullivan states mockingbirds are gray brown and are usually paler on the breast and
belly with two white wing bars on each wing. The Northern Mockingbird | National
Wildlife Federation also states their wings are rounded with white patches on the
upper and lower surfaces, which are visible when the wings are outstretched.
Mockingbirds like to eat some specific things and can have unique ways they eat
them. The mockingbird often seeks insects on open lawns in southern areas
(Kaufman). Along with seeking the insects in open lawns they also mostly capture
insects by running or walking around on ground (Kaufman). Some characteristics and
/or interesting facts of the mockingbird can be tied to where they live or move to.

Essay On Purchasing Parity Power
The purpose of this paper is to examine the key term of purchasing parity power
(PPP). This key term is used for several global business processes and decision
making from the strategic to the operational level of management. The current
research is mathematically based with regard to the validity of the variables used to
calculate PPP and provides examples of ways to restructure the variables for certain
business processes. Ultimately, it is a term and algorithm in which global business
leaders should be well versed to conduct cross border project management and
develop effective strategic business decisions.

In other words, the exchange rate is the equalizing factor that maintains product costs
relatively consistent across countries.
While there are myriad of PPP calculations, there are two general approaches,
absolute and relative (Hyrina Serletis, 2010). The absolute calculation relies on the
nominal exchange rate and the relative accounts for fluctuations like inflation (2010).
In fact, the variables of the calculation create the controversy, in that, scholars agree
that there are additional non constant variables to consider and many different
perspectives to view the variables. Nevertheless, despite the controversy regarding
how PPP is calculated, it is used for analyzing and reporting on costs across countries
by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the Organization for Economic
Cooperation and Development (OECD), and by global business leaders to make
decisions (Investopedia, 2016).
Major Article Summary In the article by Langston (2016), a positive view of using
the standard PPP calculation was presented as applied it to international project cost
benchmarking. His research goal was to prove that the PPP calculation, and one in
particular, enables the highest level of accuracy for cost benchmarking for
international businesses (Langston, 2016). He did this because current benchmarking
calculations use exchange rates to first get monetary units to U.S. dollar (USD),
instead of using PPP, which is a more comprehensive picture of location
The Impact Of Technology On The Civil War
Technology has not only significantly improved daily life, but it has also changed
warfare. In the 1860 s, controversies of the practice of slavery, westward expansion,
and political authorities caused high tensions between the Northern Union and the
Southern Confederacy. As the tensions built up, the Civil War began on April 12th,
1861 after the secession of the Southern states. Determining the independence of the
Confederacy and the fate of the Union, the Civil War was a period of major
technological transformation. In 1865, the Union officially won the Civil War with
advantages such as industrialization, a larger population, and most importantly,
technological innovations. Advancement in technology, such as the telegraph,
railroads, and rifles, effectively changed the Northern military strategies by
establishing a rapid network of communication, providing an efficient and safe
system of transportation, and improving the performance of the weapons. Unlike the
Confederacy army, the Union had the telegraph system that established a rapid
network of communication. Before the telegraph system, the Northern army had no
direct communication with the President, which led to unnecessary stagnation. For
instance, General in Chief, Winfield Scott, was so accepting of the tradition of being
unable to communicate rapidly with the front that he took a nap during the battle
(Wheeler). However, with the telegraph, President Lincoln was able to directly
communicate with the battlefield
Identity
No person puts themselves in the same category as others, each person has different
values and perceives themselves completely different than everyone else. An identity
is the set of characteristics and the state of being that defines a person and makes
them unique. No one decides for themselves what they value; from birth everyone
has choices made for them. Parents choose how they want to raise their children and
where; all of which are factors that decide who each personis and who they become.
The factors that cause for differences in individuals vary, each person is introduced to
distinctive experiences that are unique to that person and allow for that individualto
develop into a unique identity. Ernest Hemingways Indian Camp is about... Show

However these expectations differ for age groups, race, and social order; and
being a people eager to fit in and be accepted, everyone is coerced into following
the norms and expectations set for them. Andrew Sullivan in his article , I Used to
Be a Human Being discusses the loss of a true identity to the new expectations of a
developing generation. The people of each generation allow themselves to be
changed and formed into the ideals of their society. Andrew Sullivan talks about
how each person of this new generation is expected to interact with each other in a
fashion so far removed from the past that these new pressures are only relevant to
the youth of the society. Having been born twenty years earlier saved people from
the pressures put on these individuals, seeing as the pressures were created after
the identities of the people were created. The pressures for each generation are
different than the generation that came before them, and with the new pressures
and expectations come a new type of people, people who value different things and
act in different manners. As new groups of individuals arise the new expectations
expectations, for how each person should act, rise with them. These people will
then raise their children who will grow up alongside an entirely different set of
norms than their parents had, bringing again a new type of people into society. Anna
Garvey in her article, The Oregon Trail Generation: Life Before and After
Mainstream Tech supports this idea. Having been part of a generation in between
new and old values, she got to see first hand how new environments create different
pressures and therefore cause individuals to conform and let themselves be changed
by what these new expectations call for. As an environment changes, the way in
which individuals interact with each other changes as well. The environment that a
person is in
Analyzing The Kpi s For Retail Industry Essay
Abstract
Now a day s most of the Industry is becoming more and more reliant on Information
Technology to adjust with the constantly changing business ecosystem. So great
amount of data is produced every seconds as an outcome of business activities, and as
a consequence of numerous trades. So to use this data and derive some important
result out of this, data warehouse should consider important factors that are affecting
the business .This paper emphases concepts on defining the KPI s for retail industry
that will help to generate useful data that will develop business chances.
Introduction
As a vendor, industry will have an enormous volume of data and information. There s
total income and profit, sales per month, sales per year, inventory data, and many
more. With these several numbers it is difficult to decide which one will help
business to discover their new opportunities. This is the scenario where Key
Performance Indicators (KPIs) comes into the picture. These are the factors which
defines the business productivity and efficiency. These KPI will help business to
tackle the critical business problems so stakeholder can determine the strengths and
weaknesses of business and influence the future decisions. A data warehouse
generates huge amount of data that can be productively operated. In today s world,
data warehousing is an uncompromising business with demanding customers. So
defining the KPI s is an important task which will display exactly what the customer

In 1936 Alfred Jules Ayer published a book named, Language, Truth, and Logic. At
the time of its publication, it was understood to be the major thesis of Logical
Positivism (Macdonald). In order to understand the Verification Principle, one must
first become somewhat familiar with Logical Positivism. Logical Positivismis a school
of philosophic thought that combines empiricism, the idea that observational
evidence is indispensable for knowledge of the world, with a version of rationalism
incorporating mathematical and logico linguistic constructs and deductions in
epistemology, the study of knowledge (Log Pos). The Verification Principle states

In the future I believe humans will return to the practice of having fewer divorces.
According to the Verification Principle, Logical Positivists believe a large part of
philosophy can not be judged as either true or false. Many statements concerning
aesthetics, metaphysics, and theology have been rendered cognitively meaningless
and cannot be proven logically, mathematically, nor by observation or experiment
(Reilly). Woodstock was a great event for music lovers. Tonight the stars will cease
to shine. Is there really life after death? A.J. Ayers and the Logical Positivists believed
that cognitively meaningless statements had no truth in value, and that itself made it
a waste of time to debate them. Karl Popper did not like the requirement that
meaningful sentences be verifiable, stating the positivists criterion of verifiability
was too strong a criterion for science, and proposed that they be replaced by a
criterion of falsifiability (Karl Popper). Popper believed that falsifiability was a
better criterion because it did not invite the philosophical problems inherent in
verifying induction, and it allowed statements from the physical sciences which
seemed scientific but which did not meet the verification criterion (Log Pos). Popper
also argues that science should adopt a methodology based on falsifiability, because
no number of experiments can ever prove a
The Causative Agent Of Human Monocytotrophic
Ehrlichiosis
Members of the genus Ehrlichia, the causative agent of human monocytotrophic
ehrlichiosis (HME), are important emerging tick borne pathogens globally. Ehrlichia
spp. is naturally transmitted by Ixodidae family ticks and maintained between the
ticks and the wild or domestic animal reservoir hosts.
E. canis can cause illness in dogs and other canids, and these animals are thought to
be the reservoir hosts. Evidence of infection with this or a similar organism has
also been reported in cats and captive wild felids. Human infections with E.canis
have been reported but the incidence is quite few. In Venezuela, chronic,
asymptomatic infections with E. canis in human patients have been reported as
well as six clinical cases with ehrlichiosis. All patients with clinical cases had a
fever, and most had a headache and/or myalgia. Also, malaise, arthralgia, nausea,
vomiting, rash, bone pain, diarrhea or abdominal pain occurred in some patients.
Leukopenia was seen in one patient and anemia in another. All of the six patients
were young and otherwise healthy, and the E. canis strains were identical to those
seen in dogs. E. canis nucleic acids have also been detected in a small number of
stored human serum samples in the U.S. Although E. canis occur worldwide, its
presence and density in an area varies with the distribution of its tick vectors. The
presence of novel Ehrlichia genotype suspected to be E.canis detected in dogs in
South Africa has been reported by Allsopp and Allsopp

Representative Heuristic And Representative Bias Definition
Representativeness Bias or Representativeness Heuristic is a shortcut in trying to
associate present people or events to past experience. It is the probability that
event A is connected to event B because they share common physical
characteristics. We observe a person or object and if it shares similar qualities from
another object we are familiar with, then we assume that the object is a part of that
category. I used Legally Blonde because it is a great example of how Elle (Reese
Witherspoon) was underestimated. Elle is a blonde sorority girl, from California,
and has a lot of money. She always has the best clothes, friends, and dates. Based
upon, her physical attributes, people categorize her as being unintelligent, and unable

Optimistic Believer
Being an optimistic believer, I choose to focus on the positive things rather then
dwell on the negative ones. Chief Seattle said, Your God loves your people and hates
mine... (Page 708) I do not believe God is picking any race above another nor is luck
on one side any not on the other. I believe we all have a choice on what we want to
focus on and how to overcome our life struggles. I disagree with Chief Seattle s
words because we as humans are valuable, have things to be grateful for, and
blessed. There are a few people in this society we live in that believe their lives are
more valuable then others because they are of upper class. I refuse to believe
wealth entitles anyone s life to mean more then middle to low class individual.
This state of mind reminds me of a movie called, From Prada to Nada. One of the
main characters from the movie (Mary Dominguez) struggles once the girls stay
orphans and go from being from higher class to low class. She refused to see... Show

For example having food and water to meet our basic needs. Waking up each
morning to greet another day and spend quality time with friends and family. If
every one of us looked at life the way Chief Seattle did we would miss our own
entire blessing by reflecting only on our bad fortune? After a long day of going to
work, followed by attending class, all I want to do is complain about how heavy
the load is. However, when I walk into my house and my puppy greets me at the
door I forget all the struggles and feel blessed to have a home to go to with a
loving dog. When the world feels out of place and darkness surrounds us there is
still a shed of hope; if you believe and focus on the positive of all situations; the
smallest amount of light can because bright enough to lighten any darkness. We are
all worth being saved our value, along with our gratefulness, and blessing can rise us

Interview Strengths
Based on what I viewed from the video, I would definitely hire myself. There are
more strengths that I feel would outweigh the weakness. Some strengths involved me
speaking confidently about the core values that I believe in, to become a stronger
and honest individual. However, there are skills that can I improve on interviewee
skills. There were some weaknesses that I caught myself as it can be very distracting
to the interviewer. Strengths that I witnessed in my interviewvideos is straight off that
I am professionally dressed, shaved, and had a strong posture. First impression are
often the first thing that an interviewer would acknowledge and I present myself as
a worker. I constantly had a straight back and always keeping myself formal as
possible. Other strengths that I saw is that I am well composed. Despite me stuttering
so much, I do not get flustered thus preventing myself messing up even more. This is
important, because in the past when I get flustered, I would start to mumble. This is a
horrible habit as it may annoy the interviewer and present myself as an unconfident
person. Additional strengths that I had is that I had hand gestures... Show more

that I am going to fix this problem is to talk a bit more slowly. I think when I
looked over this video, I tend to talk fast when I get nervous. So if I remind myself
to talk more slowly, I would stutter less. What I also caught myself doing is that I
would say like and you know . I can avoid this by practicing speaking more in front
of the public and record myself if I would do it. Lastly, I found out that I would

Lord Of The Flies Character Analysis Essay
Everyone, at least as a child, has had a fear of some sort of beast or monster.
People usually like to refer to animals as beasts because they aren t human and the
animals are not able to think for themselves. In fact this is the opposite because
humans are actually beasts because they are actually able to think for themselves
and have do things according to what they are thinking. In Lord of the Flies there
are many different topics and themes that are gone over but one of the main themes
is that people can go insane and become savages under certain circumstances. A lot
of characters in the book betrayed Ralph to join Jack s new group but a character did
not become one of Jack s savages instead he died in attempt to save the rest of the...

What makes Simon is so relatable is that he tries to make a change in people s

should handle the monster. A while after Jack left there was an awkward silence
and then, ...Simon stood up and took the conch from Piggy, who was so

anything so Simon took it upon himself to say something that might make a
difference. Simon is very quiet and prefers to keep to himself but he decided that
saying nothing wouldn t make change anything. This relates to people because a
lot of people in high school would prefer not to talk in front of class because they
are in fear of looking foolish in class. The same things happens to Simon because
after everyone rejects Simon s idea he then, ...retired and sat as far away from the
others as possible (pg. 147). As soon as his idea is rejected he starts to coward back
and he realizes that he embarrassed himself in front of everyone. A lot of Highschool
kids can relate to this feeling because after a presentation usually kids try to make
themselves the least noticeable so that no one has a chance to humiliate them. Some

Kid Death Row
Should a kid be put on death row for the killing of their parents? In most cases, i
would say no, especially if the child has a mental disorder or has experienced
something unimaginably traumatizing. Not in all cases should someone be held
accountable for their actions, as in the case of Eric Smith, on january 22nd 1980.
At the age of 13, he blamed his mother for his big glasses, freckles and red hair. Eric
has a disorder that causes him to rage uncontrollable. After he was arrested, he was
not given a death sentence, showing that not everyone can be fully accountable for
their actions. It is not reasonable for everyone to be fully accountable for their
actions especially when there are multiple factors involved. People with mental issues
should not be accountable for their actions because they cannot control themselves.

While it would beneficial to society to put away these kinds of people, it would be
more beneficial to put them in isolation (solitary confinement), away from other
people so that they cannot bring harm to themselves or anyone else. This would
keep them away from the public and shows that while they cannot control their
own actions, they should be held accountable in some way or another. The
mentally challenged should not be accountable for their actions on the same terms
as normal people. Today, it is estimated that 90% of UK prisoners have a

A Mass Of Thousands Of People Walk Into The Capital
City...
A mass of thousands of people walk into the capital city of Budapest. It is October
23, 1956, a day that would forever be remembered by Hungarians as the day the
Revolution began. This protest quickly turned into a major rebellion against the
Soviets and their policies. Although the Revolution ended in failure, however, it left a
mark on the Soviets, who would eventually lose control nearing the end of the Cold
War. Then, over 30 years after the Revolution, on October 23, 1989, Hungarywas
declared as the Third Hungarian Republic. In Hungary today, October 23 is
celebrated nationally as Republic Day, to celebrate the two events that made
Hungary what it is today. On October 23 in Hungary today, there are many events
to celebrate Republic Day. The raising of the flag in Kossuth Square initiates the
celebrations nationwide. A memorial ceremony is held with speeches regarding the
events celebrated. Most museums have free admission to see Hungary s history.
The Parliament building is open to the public, and the Grand Staircase, Cupola
Hall, and Holy Crown are able to be seen inside. These activities are held within
Hungary, as it is their national holiday. Before standing as an independent nation,
Hungary was a dual monarchy with Austria. Austria Hungary was the empire that
declared war on Serbia, and the conflict soon grew into World War 1. During the
war, the empire had broken down into something very small. In 1920, the Treaty of
Trianon officially declared Hungary s
The Film Adaptation Of Richard Matheson s I Am Legend
The film adaptation of Richard Matheson s 1954 novel, I am Legend, was released
in December of 2007. Starring Will Smith, and directed by Francis Lawrence, the
movie utilizes a viral outbreak, instead of a bacterium (like the book), to spread the
disease (Lawrence). Dr. Alice Krippin genetically engineers the measles virus to act
as an anti cancer treatment. She remarks in an interview that out of the 10,009
clinical trials, there have been 10,009 confirmed cancer free patients. However, the
Krippin virus mutates within the bodies of the patients and begins destroying what
makes them human. KV becomes transmittable through saliva. New York Cityis put
into a quarantine when the number of infected become too great, and U.S. Army
virologist, Robert Neville, is working to find a solution to prevent further spread.
The virus mutates further and is airborne, leading the president to order the
destruction of the bridges leading off Manhattan and quarantine all the infected on
the island. Revealed through flashbacks, Robert Neville s family dies because of
this order. In an attempt to save his wife and child, he has them evacuated from the
Southport dock, but as the helicopter is taking off, another helicopter collides with
theirs, ending in a ball of fire. Three years after the outbreak, Robert Neville is the
sole survivor in New York City, as everyone is either infected or dead. He is
accompanied by his daughter s dog, Sam, and has a resemblance to normal life

Comparing Opera Seria to Orfeo Ed Euridice by Gluck
and...
Orfeo ed Euridice by Gluck, was written in 1762 and The Marriage of Figaro by
Mozart was written in 1786. It is interesting to analyse the changes and developments
from opera seria to these two examples.
During the eighteenth century, composers wrote in a style of opera called opera
seria. Opera seria had the following characteristics:
They used similar plots involving a hero and usually some sort of conflict of human
passions, and these operas were often based on a story from an ancient Greek or
Latin Author. The opera always consisted of three acts with alternating recitatives and
arias. To show the virtuosic skill of the singer, cadenzas were used within arias. The
action was created from the dialogue within the recitatives, ... Show more content on

There were also stricter demands of the solo singers. The two mid eighteenth century
composers, Jomelli and Traetta played a big part in the reform of Italian opera in the
late 18th century by influencing the French towards opera of a more international
flavour.
Born in Bohemia, Gluck built a more international style of opera. He was strongly
affected by the movement of the reform in the 1750s. He became court composer
to the Emperor at Vienna after visits to London and studying under Samartini in
Italy. After a collaboration with a poet named Raniero Calzabigi, Gluck composed
two of his famous operas, `Orfeo ed Euridice in 1762 and `Alceste in 1767. Gluck s
aims were to remove the unpopular characteristics of opera seria, as shown by his
famous quote:
To confine music to its proper function of serving the poetry for the expression and
the situations of the plot
He removed the overuse of da capo aria or the showing off desire of the singer; he
also broke down the contrast of the recitative and aria and gave his opera more
dramatic relevance than had been the case in opera seria:
I believed that my greatest effort should be directed to seek in a beautiful simplicity
...and there is no accepted rule that I have not thought should be gladly sacrificed in
favour of effectiveness.
One important way, in which Gluck reformed opera, was the use of his choruses as
we can see in the beginning of Orfeo ed Euridice. Example below.
Early Church Mind Map
There are four parts in my mind map and every part represents different mark of the
early Church which I want the reader comes away with. In other words, my mind
map focus on the illustrations of early Church s four marks. Early Church has four
marks: One, Holy, Catholic and apostolic. Those marks indicated four major
distinctive marks or distinguishing characteristics of the Christian Church. For
example, although people built thousands of churches around the world, there is still
only one Church for the Christian religion. As the description of Body of Christ in
the model of Church, Church is basically the union of Jesusfollowers and believers,

For the contagion of this superstition has spread not only to the cities but also to
the villages and farms (Letters between Trajan and Pliny the Younger). Jesus told
His apostles to go throughout the world and make disciples of all nations (Matthew

soul and save them from the sins. As a result, various people are making the

the Church is still processing missionaries to make disciples of all nations (Matthew

How Nepal Is Characterized As Multilingual And...
Nepal is characterized as multilingual and multicultural country from the very
beginning.
It is common phenomenon in which Nepalese people are heard using bi/multi
lingual repertoire in their conversation at informal level. This is the case even
before Nepal and its people were exposed to the outside world viz. the Hindi and the
English languages in particular and other foreign languages in general.
It is observed that people living in large city centres and small remote cities and
villages are multilingual individuals in terms of the attributes active and passive
communication as indicated by Wei (2010, p. 4). The local people in large cities
communicate through their active use of
Fishman states that: Multilingualism often begins in the family and depends upon it
for encouragement if not for protection ( Fishman, 1972:82) .
Nepalese people`s ability to speak their mother tongues and second language notably
Nepali is the indicative of their bilingual status than multilingual. However, their
mother tongue speaking ability or their existing linguistic repertoire is upset by
second language or third language they have acquired or learned. For instance, a
Nepalese speech participant who has one of the ethnic languages as his/her mother
tongue also has Nepali, Hindi, and English as foreign languages at their disposal to
use as and when the situation triggers in Nepal.
This study will discuss the actual performance of Nepalese bilinguals who exploit the

semester
Intro
The problem that was trying to be solved in this study deals with analyzing unknown
solutions. In this particular case, a chemical company has several unknown
solutions and to correctly dispose of them they need to know their properties. To
figure out the properties several qualitative tests were performed throughout the
study (Cooper 2012). To start out this study the difference between acids and bases
has to be identified. Acids have very low pHs and have a high concentration of
hydronium ions, while bases have a high pH and have a high concentration of
hydroxide ions. The difference between strong bases and acids, and weak bases
and acids is the amount of dissociation. Strong bases and acids dissociate a large
amount and let go of their ions in solution, while weak bases and acids may only let
go of some of their ions. This is important because if the unknown solutions aren t
strong acids or bases then using their ions to calculate the pH of the solutions will
give false results (Diffen 2012). Another important difference is between monoprotic
and polyprotic acids. Monoprotic acid or base means that it only is capable of
donating one proton, while polyprotic acid or base means that it is capable of
donating multiple protons. This is important
Modern Day American Political Warfare Examples
Political Warfare Blame, it s a commonly used word used to explain why many of
our expectations go wrong in communities, but the most common group of people
oftenly blamed for causing troubles is politicians. Blaming politicians for a majority
of problems often leads to a divided opinion, some may believe their problems were
solved thanks to the politician while others blame politicians for making their
problems worse. Eventually the conflict between opinions leads to violence among a
community. Although both political parties attempt to make their opinion appear as
the superior opinion by using violence and discrimination, it solves absolutely
nothing for their cause. The modern day United States society is an example of
political warfare

Thus, I believe repairing may carry social functions in certain

Plato Dualism Dualism isthe division of two entities. However, in the case of philosophy, dualism is expanded upon this definition and is focused on the separation of the mind and the body. There are several different types of dualism that deal with the mind and body. There are substance dualists and property dualists and within these different types of dualism, there are more subcategories within them. For instance, in the substance dualism, there are interactionists, occasionalists, parallelists, and epiphenomenalists. All of these subcategories believe that the mindis not the same as the brain and that the mind is not a creation of the brain. Plato and Descartes believed in these two common features of dualism as well. Although they had similar approaches... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Descartes used Leibniz s Law of Identity to prove that the mind and the body are considered to be different because they didn t have the same properties. The Leibniz s Law of Identity states that if two articles have identical properties, then the articles must be identical. The same can be said if the articles were not identical. Descartes had used the property of divisibility to illustrate the difference between the body and the mind. For instance, when one loses an arm, it is theoretically possible for the rest of the body to still exist. However, divisibility is difficult to use when it comes to the mind. For instance, it is impossible for someone to feel half depressed. The mind cannot be divided up like how a body can. Another property that is different between the mind and the body is the ability to take up space. Since the body has the capacity to take up volume and a mind does not have this capacity, they are considered to have different property. Thus, the differences allow the mind and body to be separate

However, to view the Enuma Elish as a cosmological myth obscures the true intent of the epicГs author. The cosmological elements of the Enuma Elish are secondary to the authorГs effort to explain the supremacy of Marduk, to justify absolute oriental monarchy, and to defend Babylon as the axis mundi. This statement reflects the reality of the times. During the writing of the Enuma Elish the Old Babylonian Empire weilded supreme power in Mesopotamia. Moreover, the recognition MardukГs absolute rule is etiological in relation to the power of the Babylonian kings. According to Assyriologist Benjamin Foster, the Enuma Elish explains the evolution from early government by elders to absolute monarchy. As the battle between Marduk and Tiamat illustrates, Foster notes the catalyst for this change is portrayed as outside threat calling for a war leader. The leader demanded, as his terms for leadership, absolute obedience, even when the threat of war was removed (Foster, 9). Once the writer of the Enuma Elish set forth the supremacy of the Babylonian God and the precedent for earthly monarchy, he/she turned to the task of translating divine superiority to earthly. The process of translating divine power to earthly power begins on line 50 of Tablet IV of the Enuma Elish. Grateful for MardukГs leadership, the gods construct the

To this end, shorter acting antihypertensive medications with closer follow up may be more suitable to avoid any delays in starting VSPi. As long as an adequate plan has been established between the patient and physician, the dose titration to achieve target BP can be achieved while the patient is on VSPi. It may not be necessary to delay initiation of VSPi if the blood pressure is not at target, as long as it is not elevated to levels that are more likely associated with acute complications. [Maitland 2010] If the patient is already on antihypertensive medications, the importance of adherence and regular follow up should be explained, and the patient should be initiated on a single antihypertensive medication, titrated to maximum tolerated dose in order to achieve the target blood pressure before adding a second medication if required. Macbeth And TheSupernatural Macbeth is a play that is well known for its variety of supernatural elements, including the witches, the ghost of Banquo, the goddess Hecate, hallucinations, madness, magic and of course the prophecies. Macbeth has the supernatural tied in to it in many ways. This play is saturated with the supernatural, all the plot within this play was either initiated by a supernatural creature or the product of supernatural influence, and the play has even become a supernatural entity itself. In fact, the play s name is often forbidden to be said on stage or is called the Scottish play since it is bad luck and mysterious things tend to happen during its productions. Macbethis also a lifelike play where all these fantastic beings are very much real, in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He does this because the witches say that Banquo will father kings. So he assumes that by having Fleance killed he will never take the throne and if Banquo is dead then he can t father any other kings. If not for the witches prophecies Macbeth wouldn t have even contemplated having Banquo and his son killed. After that Macbeth next has his outburst at supper after the death of Banquo. He begins to yell and act crazily, which of course is not proper etiquette for a newly appointed king. This also makes the thanes wary and suspicious. But all of this happens because Macbeth is seeing Banquo s ghost. Ghosts are certainly something supernatural and it is understandable for a guilty, partially insane man to violently react to his best friend s silent ghost. Next we have Macbeth s first truly pointless murder: Lady Macduff and her young children. His only reason for having them slaughtered is to prove a point to Macduff, who has fled to England. However, before this happens Macbeth was speaking to the witches, who warn him to beware Macduff. Macbeth then tries to do something to hurt Macduff, what he does is cruel, but brought on by the witches ultimately. This brings us to the final battle. Macbeth vs Macduff. Macbeth, because of the witches warnings decides he can kill anyone, that no man born of woman can harm him. He goes out in to battle believing this. If he had not, or if the witches never said it, he could have participated in siege warfare, which could have left a much different outcome on Macbeth s life. We can blame the supernatural for Macbeth s murder of Duncan. The murder of Banquo and attack on Fleance. Macbeth losing the respect and allegiance of his thanes. The murder of Lady Macduff and her children. And even ultimately the death of Macbeth himself. Since the supernatural is to blame for all of these necessary plot points, we cannot say that the play Macbeth would be

Homeland Security AndHomeland Defense Essay Homeland security and homeland defense. Both have similar titles and can be regarded as the same thing. By definition however they are two separate sides of the coin that keep the United States regulated and protected against the threats from both the inside and outside. Homeland security is defined simply as a combination of law enforcement, disaster, immigration, and terrorismissues and is the prime responsibly of civilian agencies at all levels. Homeland defense is defined as, the protection of the United StatesSovereignty, territory, domestic population, and critical defense infrastructure against external threats and aggression, or other threats as directed by the President. (U.S. Library of Congress. Both homeland security and homeland defense have evolved in the recent years due to the recent attack against the United States on her own sovereign soil. But the development of the cell phone into a smartphone proves this statement right. This includes transformations, besides the normal functionalities of a phone like text messaging, receiving and making calls. A smartphone s operating system reflects the users lifestyle because it controls the choice of applications, the general features and functionality in a phone. YouTube has faced a lot of problems in its life time so far and the main issues they faced were with scalability. The main reason YouTube faced so many issues was due to its large and rapid growth, YouTube went from a small websiteto a technology giant and large player in the IT industry practically overnight. The solution to dealing with this large and sudden growth was to keep things simple, by using simplicity this allowed YouTube to cope with the large growth. At YouTube the use of pythonmakes doing this easier as the dynamic nature of python makes it easier to do. In other words no matter how bad your API is you can stub or modify or decorate your way out of a lot of problems . Other scalability techniques used by YouTube would be to say that they cheated a little or to say instead of data being correct it is approximate correctness. What is meant by cheating is that not all of their servers are consistent at the same time a good example of this is that if a user writes a comment on a video then instead deploying that comment to all servers in the network and keeping all data consistent what they have done at YouTube is they done it so that the system does not have to have globally worldwide consistent transactions. Meaning that when the a user rights a comment on a video he/she sees that comment instantly however someone on the other side of the world may not see that comment for a couple milliseconds, in other words the cheat. The data will be consistent in the end, the comments are not financial transaction therefore it is essential that you know when to cheat, for example if it was a financial transaction where a user is purchasing something then it is not good enough for the data must be consistent. Another main part of the cheating technique is knowing when to fake data, for example to say that The fastest function call is the one that doesn t or hasn t

What they are known less for is the large quantity of invasive species that also now inhabit the island thanks to man coming to and from the island with only himself in mind. Since this issue has been noticed, transport to and from the islands has become quite regulated and limited in the hopes of slowing this disaster in the works. This is seeming to work but it isn t unlikely that all threats will be eradicated since humans will inevitably inhabit the island (Santoso, 2014). The goat s appetite is also the main problem, they are literally eating everything on the islands, leaving them barren. Action has already been taken on a rather extreme level. Highly skilled game wardens were trained and implemented with helicopters and GIS mapping to employ aerial hunting and scanning to hunt all goats to extinction on the islands. The goats quickly associated the helicopters with death and began hiding from them. Judas goats were then introduced. A Judas goat is a female goat injected with hormones designed to keep her in heat draw out males in hiding (Galapagos Conservancy, 2008). Increases in vegetation are already being seen on the islands of project Isabela. The task at hand is so huge that 18 years later goats are still being hunted. It has been found, however, that local fishermen have been known to release more goats onto the islands to retaliate against the government for fishing regulations that they don t agree with. Problem arises in the useable definitions of indecent and patently offensive. In the past, the CDA has banned and attempted to prosecute constitutionally protected speech on the Internet on topics like sexuality, reproduction, civil liberties, and human rights. There were multiple lawsuits and court cases after President Clinton signed this bill into law in 1996. Various online communication users and providers from political, educational, medical, artistic, and social value venues were all possible targets for prosecution under CDA. This government censorship was unnecessary because there are already laws and filtering technologies in place to protect children in schools and libraries. Parents can also limit computer access and be diligent about scrutinizing where their children go on the Internet. The CDA s law banning indecent and patently offensive material is an

Theme Of LoveAnd War In Antigone Love and Bloodshed The ancient Greeks somehow linked together two aspects of life that seem to be exact opposites. Love and war, as Aphrodite was the mistress of ares, the god of war. In the play Antigone one of a trilogy, Antigone wishes for nothing more than to bury her deceased brother: However, that is the one thing her uncle, Creon, wants the least. There is a clearly defined relationship between love and war in Antigone, and it is a rather toxic relationship. In the play, the reader observes multiple views on a spectrum. On one end is Law (war, or result from the war between the two brothers), on the other is love. Creon obviously believes in the beginning that it is every man for himself, Antigone believes that family comes before the law, and Ismene struggles between the two. On the law side of the spectrum is where we discover Creon. Creon was the uncle of the children of Oedipus, but when Oedipus sons killed each other in battle, Creon became the king. A question is imposed, did Creon want both of his own nephews to die so he would be able to assume the throne and take power? This would be viewed as morally incorrect by most and convinces the readers more than he puts law over family. The reader also observe this when he forbids a burial of Polynices, Creon states Polyneices I say, is to have no burial: no man is to touch him or to say the least prayer for him; He shall lie on the plain, unburied; and the birds and the scavenging dogs can do

This has provoked the largest industry players to grow in both size and scope. Industry Disadvantages As prisons burst at seams, states seek alternatives to imprisonment. The nation s overall inmate population is growing rapidly, correctional facilities have an excess of 385,000 prisoners. Most correctional facilities have long since exceeded or reached capacity. About two thirds of the United States are under court order to reduce prison overcrowding or upgrade inmate living conditions. The federal government and 47 states have expanded

While there are myriad of PPP calculations, there are two general approaches, absolute and relative (Hyrina Serletis, 2010). The absolute calculation relies on the nominal exchange rate and the relative accounts for fluctuations like inflation (2010). In fact, the variables of the calculation create the controversy, in that, scholars agree that there are additional non constant variables to consider and many different perspectives to view the variables. Nevertheless, despite the controversy regarding how PPP is calculated, it is used for analyzing and reporting on costs across countries by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), and by global business leaders to make decisions (Investopedia, 2016). The Impact OfTechnology On The Civil War Technology has not only significantly improved daily life, but it has also changed warfare. In the 1860 s, controversies of the practice of slavery, westward expansion, and political authorities caused high tensions between the Northern Union and the Southern Confederacy. As the tensions built up, the Civil War began on April 12th, 1861 after the secession of the Southern states. Determining the independence of the Confederacy and the fate of the Union, the Civil War was a period of major technological transformation. In 1865, the Union officially won the Civil War with advantages such as industrialization, a larger population, and most importantly, technological innovations. Advancement in technology, such as the telegraph, railroads, and rifles, effectively changed the Northern military strategies by establishing a rapid network of communication, providing an efficient and safe system of transportation, and improving the performance of the weapons. Unlike the Confederacy army, the Union had the telegraph system that established a rapid network of communication. Before the telegraph system, the Northern army had no direct communication with the President, which led to unnecessary stagnation. For instance, General in Chief, Winfield Scott, was so accepting of the tradition of being unable to communicate rapidly with the front that he took a nap during the battle (Wheeler). However, with the telegraph, President Lincoln was able to directly communicate with the battlefield

Andrew Sullivan in his article , I Used to Be a Human Being discusses the loss of a true identity to the new expectations of a developing generation. The people of each generation allow themselves to be changed and formed into the ideals of their society. Andrew Sullivan talks about how each person of this new generation is expected to interact with each other in a fashion so far removed from the past that these new pressures are only relevant to the youth of the society. Having been born twenty years earlier saved people from the pressures put on these individuals, seeing as the pressures were created after the identities of the people were created. The pressures for each generation are different than the generation that came before them, and with the new pressures and expectations come a new type of people, people who value different things and act in different manners. As new groups of individuals arise the new expectations expectations, for how each person should act, rise with them. These people will then raise their children who will grow up alongside an entirely different set of norms than their parents had, bringing again a new type of people into society. Anna Garvey in her article, The Oregon Trail Generation: Life Before and After Mainstream Tech supports this idea. Having been part of a generation in between new and old values, she got to see first hand how new environments create different pressures and therefore cause individuals to conform and let themselves be changed by what these new expectations call for. As an environment changes, the way in which individuals interact with each other changes as well. The environment that a person is in

Woodstock was a great event for music lovers. Tonight the stars will cease to shine. Is there really life after death? A.J. Karl Popper did not like the requirement that meaningful sentences be verifiable, stating the positivists criterion of verifiability was too strong a criterion for science, and proposed that they be replaced by a criterion of falsifiability (Karl Popper). Popper believed that falsifiability was a better criterion because it did not invite the philosophical problems inherent in verifying induction, and it allowed statements from the physical sciences which seemed scientific but which did not meet the verification criterion (Log Pos). Popper also argues that science should adopt a methodology based on falsifiability, because no number of experiments can ever prove a

The Causative AgentOf Human Monocytotrophic Ehrlichiosis Members of the genus Ehrlichia, the causative agent of human monocytotrophic ehrlichiosis (HME), are important emerging tick borne pathogens globally. Ehrlichia spp. is naturally transmitted by Ixodidae family ticks and maintained between the ticks and the wild or domestic animal reservoir hosts. E. canis can cause illness in dogs and other canids, and these animals are thought to be the reservoir hosts. Evidence of infection with this or a similar organism has also been reported in cats and captive wild felids. Human infections with E.canis have been reported but the incidence is quite few. In Venezuela, chronic, asymptomatic infections with E. canis in human patients have been reported as well as six clinical cases with ehrlichiosis. All patients with clinical cases had a fever, and most had a headache and/or myalgia. Also, malaise, arthralgia, nausea, vomiting, rash, bone pain, diarrhea or abdominal pain occurred in some patients. Leukopenia was seen in one patient and anemia in another. All of the six patients were young and otherwise healthy, and the E. canis strains were identical to those seen in dogs. E. canis nucleic acids have also been detected in a small number of stored human serum samples in the U.S. Although E. canis occur worldwide, its presence and density in an area varies with the distribution of its tick vectors. The presence of novel Ehrlichia genotype suspected to be E.canis detected in dogs in South Africa has been reported by Allsopp and Allsopp

The following table shows, in brief, the SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunites, and Threats) currently facing Riordan s Finance Accounting department:

Representative Heuristic AndRepresentative Bias Definition Representativeness Bias or Representativeness Heuristic is a shortcut in trying to associate present people or events to past experience. It is the probability that event A is connected to event B because they share common physical characteristics. We observe a person or object and if it shares similar qualities from another object we are familiar with, then we assume that the object is a part of that category. I used Legally Blonde because it is a great example of how Elle (Reese Witherspoon) was underestimated. Elle is a blonde sorority girl, from California, and has a lot of money. She always has the best clothes, friends, and dates. Based upon, her physical attributes, people categorize her as being unintelligent, and unable to complete

Optimistic Believer Being anoptimistic believer, I choose to focus on the positive things rather then dwell on the negative ones. Chief Seattle said, Your God loves your people and hates mine... (Page 708) I do not believe God is picking any race above another nor is luck on one side any not on the other. I believe we all have a choice on what we want to focus on and how to overcome our life struggles. I disagree with Chief Seattle s words because we as humans are valuable, have things to be grateful for, and blessed. There are a few people in this society we live in that believe their lives are more valuable then others because they are of upper class. I refuse to believe wealth entitles anyone s life to mean more then middle to low class individual. This state of mind reminds me of a movie called, From Prada to Nada. One of the main characters from the movie (Mary Dominguez) struggles once the girls stay orphans and go from being from higher class to low class. She refused to see... If every one of us looked at life the way Chief Seattle did we would miss our own entire blessing by reflecting only on our bad fortune? After a long day of going to work, followed by attending class, all I want to do is complain about how heavy the load is. However, when I walk into my house and my puppy greets me at the door I forget all the struggles and feel blessed to have a home to go to with a loving dog. When the world feels out of place and darkness surrounds us there is still a shed of hope; if you believe and focus on the positive of all situations; the smallest amount of light can because bright enough to lighten any darkness. We are all worth being saved our value, along with our gratefulness, and blessing can rise us above any

Interview Strengths Based onwhat I viewed from the video, I would definitely hire myself. There are more strengths that I feel would outweigh the weakness. Some strengths involved me speaking confidently about the core values that I believe in, to become a stronger and honest individual. However, there are skills that can I improve on interviewee skills. There were some weaknesses that I caught myself as it can be very distracting to the interviewer. Strengths that I witnessed in my interviewvideos is straight off that I am professionally dressed, shaved, and had a strong posture. First impression are often the first thing that an interviewer would acknowledge and I present myself as a worker. I constantly had a straight back and always keeping myself formal as possible. Other strengths that I saw is that I am well composed. Despite me stuttering so much, I do not get flustered thus preventing myself messing up even more. This is important, because in the past when I get flustered, I would start to mumble. This is a horrible habit as it may annoy the interviewer and present myself as an unconfident person. Additional strengths that I had is that I had hand gestures... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Throughout the interview it is noticeable that I am stuttering when I am trying to think of something to say. This can be problematic as it can be annoying for the interviewer to listen and it may show off as a sign of being incompetent. The way that I am going to fix this problem is to talk a bit more slowly. I think when I looked over this video, I tend to talk fast when I get nervous. So if I remind myself to talk more slowly, I would stutter less. What I also caught myself doing is that I would say like and you know . I can avoid this by practicing speaking more in front of the public and record myself if I would do it. Lastly, I found out that I would twitch my eye to the left if I need to think of something. What I would is prepare more what I am going to

Lord Of TheFlies Character Analysis Essay Everyone, at least as a child, has had a fear of some sort of beast or monster. People usually like to refer to animals as beasts because they aren t human and the animals are not able to think for themselves. In fact this is the opposite because humans are actually beasts because they are actually able to think for themselves and have do things according to what they are thinking. In Lord of the Flies there are many different topics and themes that are gone over but one of the main themes is that people can go insane and become savages under certain circumstances. A lot of characters in the book betrayed Ralph to join Jack s new group but a character did not become one of Jack s savages instead he died in attempt to save the rest of the... All the kids there are all trying to get home but when the littlun see the beast the rest of the kids they should start caring more about the beast instead of getting saved. During one of their meetings the kids were trying to decided on how they should handle the monster. A while after Jack left there was an awkward silence and then, ...Simon stood up and took the conch from Piggy, who was so astonished that he remained on his feet... (pg. 146). No one else decided to say anything so Simon took it upon himself to say something that might make a difference. Simon is very quiet and prefers to keep to himself but he decided that saying nothing wouldn t make change anything. This relates to people because a lot of people in high school would prefer not to talk in front of class because they are in fear of looking foolish in class. The same things happens to Simon because after everyone rejects Simon s idea he then, ...retired and sat as far away from the others as possible (pg. 147). As soon as his idea is rejected he starts to coward back and he realizes that he embarrassed himself in front of everyone. A lot of Highschool kids can relate to this feeling because after a presentation usually kids try to make themselves the least noticeable so that no one has a chance to humiliate them. Kid Death Row Shoulda kid be put on death row for the killing of their parents? In most cases, i would say no, especially if the child has a mental disorder or has experienced something unimaginably traumatizing. Not in all cases should someone be held accountable for their actions, as in the case of Eric Smith, on january 22nd 1980. At the age of 13, he blamed his mother for his big glasses, freckles and red hair. Eric has a disorder that causes him to rage uncontrollable. After he was arrested, he was not given a death sentence, showing that not everyone can be fully accountable for their actions. It is not reasonable for everyone to be fully accountable for their actions especially when there are multiple factors involved. People with mental issues should not be accountable for their actions because they cannot control themselves. (text 1 paragraph 6) At the end of 2011 The Royal Society published a report stating that in the USA, neurological or behavioural... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While it would beneficial to society to put away these kinds of people, it would be more beneficial to put them in isolation (solitary confinement), away from other people so that they cannot bring harm to themselves or anyone else. This would keep them away from the public and shows that while they cannot control their own actions, they should be held accountable in some way or another. The mentally challenged should not be accountable for their actions on the same terms as normal people. Today, it is estimated that 90% of UK prisoners have a diagnosable mental illness or substance abuse problem (Office for national statistics) . Most of these prisoners were charged with not having a mental disability. If they were to have a known disability they would have gotten help and a lesser of a

A Mass OfThousands Of People Walk Into The Capital City... A mass of thousands of people walk into the capital city of Budapest. It is October 23, 1956, a day that would forever be remembered by Hungarians as the day the Revolution began. This protest quickly turned into a major rebellion against the Soviets and their policies. Although the Revolution ended in failure, however, it left a mark on the Soviets, who would eventually lose control nearing the end of the Cold War. Then, over 30 years after the Revolution, on October 23, 1989, Hungarywas declared as the Third Hungarian Republic. In Hungary today, October 23 is celebrated nationally as Republic Day, to celebrate the two events that made Hungary what it is today. On October 23 in Hungary today, there are many events to celebrate Republic Day. The raising of the flag in Kossuth Square initiates the celebrations nationwide. A memorial ceremony is held with speeches regarding the events celebrated. Most museums have free admission to see Hungary s history. The Parliament building is open to the public, and the Grand Staircase, Cupola Hall, and Holy Crown are able to be seen inside. These activities are held within Hungary, as it is their national holiday. Before standing as an independent nation, Hungary was a dual monarchy with Austria. Austria Hungary was the empire that declared war on Serbia, and the conflict soon grew into World War 1. During the war, the empire had broken down into something very small. In 1920, the Treaty of Trianon officially declared Hungary s

The Film AdaptationOf Richard Matheson s I Am Legend The film adaptation of Richard Matheson s 1954 novel, I am Legend, was released in December of 2007. Starring Will Smith, and directed by Francis Lawrence, the movie utilizes a viral outbreak, instead of a bacterium (like the book), to spread the disease (Lawrence). Dr. Alice Krippin genetically engineers the measles virus to act as an anti cancer treatment. She remarks in an interview that out of the 10,009 clinical trials, there have been 10,009 confirmed cancer free patients. However, the Krippin virus mutates within the bodies of the patients and begins destroying what makes them human. KV becomes transmittable through saliva. New York Cityis put into a quarantine when the number of infected become too great, and U.S. Army virologist, Robert Neville, is working to find a solution to prevent further spread. The virus mutates further and is airborne, leading the president to order the destruction of the bridges leading off Manhattan and quarantine all the infected on the island. Revealed through flashbacks, Robert Neville s family dies because of this order. In an attempt to save his wife and child, he has them evacuated from the Southport dock, but as the helicopter is taking off, another helicopter collides with theirs, ending in a ball of fire. Three years after the outbreak, Robert Neville is the sole survivor in New York City, as everyone is either infected or dead. He is accompanied by his daughter s dog, Sam, and has a resemblance to normal life through

Comparing Opera Seriato Orfeo Ed Euridice by Gluck and... Orfeo ed Euridice by Gluck, was written in 1762 and The Marriage of Figaro by Mozart was written in 1786. It is interesting to analyse the changes and developments from opera seria to these two examples. During the eighteenth century, composers wrote in a style of opera called opera seria. Opera seria had the following characteristics: They used similar plots involving a hero and usually some sort of conflict of human passions, and these operas were often based on a story from an ancient Greek or Latin Author. The opera always consisted of three acts with alternating recitatives and arias. To show the virtuosic skill of the singer, cadenzas were used within arias. The action was created from the dialogue within the recitatives, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There were also stricter demands of the solo singers. The two mid eighteenth century composers, Jomelli and Traetta played a big part in the reform of Italian opera in the late 18th century by influencing the French towards opera of a more international flavour. Born in Bohemia, Gluck built a more international style of opera. He was strongly affected by the movement of the reform in the 1750s. He became court composer to the Emperor at Vienna after visits to London and studying under Samartini in Italy. After a collaboration with a poet named Raniero Calzabigi, Gluck composed two of his famous operas, `Orfeo ed Euridice in 1762 and `Alceste in 1767. Gluck s aims were to remove the unpopular characteristics of opera seria, as shown by his famous quote: To confine music to its proper function of serving the poetry for the expression and the situations of the plot He removed the overuse of da capo aria or the showing off desire of the singer; he also broke down the contrast of the recitative and aria and gave his opera more dramatic relevance than had been the case in opera seria: I believed that my greatest effort should be directed to seek in a beautiful simplicity ...and there is no accepted rule that I have not thought should be gladly sacrificed in favour of effectiveness. One important way, in which Gluck reformed opera, was the use of his choruses as we can see in the beginning of Orfeo ed Euridice. Example below.

Early Church MindMap There are four parts in my mind map and every part represents different mark of the early Church which I want the reader comes away with. In other words, my mind map focus on the illustrations of early Church s four marks. Early Church has four marks: One, Holy, Catholic and apostolic. Those marks indicated four major distinctive marks or distinguishing characteristics of the Christian Church. For example, although people built thousands of churches around the world, there is still only one Church for the Christian religion. As the description of Body of Christ in the model of Church, Church is basically the union of Jesusfollowers and believers, though many, still one organism with Jesus Christ. And the mark One leads to the essential... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For the contagion of this superstition has spread not only to the cities but also to the villages and farms (Letters between Trajan and Pliny the Younger). Jesus told His apostles to go throughout the world and make disciples of all nations (Matthew 28:19~20) as the gift from Jesus which could provide people a way to purify their soul and save them from the sins. As a result, various people are making the connection with the Church for their religion beliefs and appreciation to Jesus. And the Church is still processing missionaries to make disciples of all nations (Matthew 28:19). In addition, it would be very hard for the Church to accomplish the universal without the essential mark Apostolic . After Jesus established the Church, He appointed His Apostles who succeed Jesus thought as the leader of the Church. They communicated with disciples around the world for Jesus, and help them to connect the Holy Church. The Didache is a perfect fact to express that idea. It includes the tutor of Christian traditions from Jesus convey by His

How Nepal IsCharacterized As Multilingual And... Nepal is characterized as multilingual and multicultural country from the very beginning. It is common phenomenon in which Nepalese people are heard using bi/multi lingual repertoire in their conversation at informal level. This is the case even before Nepal and its people were exposed to the outside world viz. the Hindi and the English languages in particular and other foreign languages in general. It is observed that people living in large city centres and small remote cities and villages are multilingual individuals in terms of the attributes active and passive communication as indicated by Wei (2010, p. 4). The local people in large cities communicate through their active use of Fishman states that: Multilingualism often begins in the family and depends upon it for encouragement if not for protection ( Fishman, 1972:82) . Nepalese people`s ability to speak their mother tongues and second language notably Nepali is the indicative of their bilingual status than multilingual. However, their mother tongue speaking ability or their existing linguistic repertoire is upset by second language or third language they have acquired or learned. For instance, a Nepalese speech participant who has one of the ethnic languages as his/her mother tongue also has Nepali, Hindi, and English as foreign languages at their disposal to use as and when the situation triggers in Nepal. This study will discuss the actual performance of Nepalese bilinguals who exploit the semiotic sources they

Acid And BasesLab Project 7 Acid and Bases Lab Project 7 Richard Overstreet/ November 21 James Scheuer Chemistry 1021 Section 016 My signature indicates that this documents represents the work completed by me this semester Intro The problem that was trying to be solved in this study deals with analyzing unknown solutions. In this particular case, a chemical company has several unknown solutions and to correctly dispose of them they need to know their properties. To figure out the properties several qualitative tests were performed throughout the study (Cooper 2012). To start out this study the difference between acids and bases has to be identified. Acids have very low pHs and have a high concentration of hydronium ions, while bases have a high pH and have a high concentration of hydroxide ions. The difference between strong bases and acids, and weak bases and acids is the amount of dissociation. Strong bases and acids dissociate a large amount and let go of their ions in solution, while weak bases and acids may only let go of some of their ions. This is important because if the unknown solutions aren t strong acids or bases then using their ions to calculate the pH of the solutions will give false results (Diffen 2012). Another important difference is between monoprotic and polyprotic acids. Monoprotic acid or base means that it only is capable of donating one proton, while polyprotic acid or base means that it is capable of donating multiple protons. This is important

Modern Day AmericanPolitical Warfare Examples Political Warfare Blame, it s a commonly used word used to explain why many of our expectations go wrong in communities, but the most common group of people oftenly blamed for causing troubles is politicians. Blaming politicians for a majority of problems often leads to a divided opinion, some may believe their problems were solved thanks to the politician while others blame politicians for making their problems worse. Eventually the conflict between opinions leads to violence among a community. Although both political parties attempt to make their opinion appear as the superior opinion by using violence and discrimination, it solves absolutely nothing for their cause. The modern day United States society is an example of political warfare
