Sample Compare And Contrast Essay
Writing an essay on the topic of a "Sample Compare and Contrast Essay" can be both
challenging and rewarding. The difficulty lies in the need for a comprehensive understanding of
the subject matter, the ability to critically analyze different aspects, and the skill to present a
well-structured and coherent argument.
To begin with, you must conduct thorough research to gather relevant information and examples
for comparison. This involves delving into various sources, understanding the nuances of the
items being compared, and identifying key similarities and differences. It requires a keen eye for
detail and a knack for selecting relevant and meaningful points.
Once the research is complete, the challenge shifts to organizing your thoughts in a logical and
coherent manner. You must decide on a suitable structure for your essay, such as a point-by-
point or block method, and ensure that your arguments flow seamlessly from one point to the
next. Crafting a strong thesis statement that encapsulates the essence of your comparison is
crucial, as it sets the tone for the entire essay.
Furthermore, expressing your ideas clearly and persuasively is essential in a compare and contrast
essay. Striking the right balance between providing enough detail to support your points and
avoiding unnecessary repetition or verbosity is a delicate task. Precision in language and a
mastery of the art of synthesis are necessary to convey your message effectively.
In addition, the challenge extends to ensuring that your essay is not merely a listing of
similarities and differences but a thoughtful analysis that adds value to the reader's
understanding. Integrating critical thinking and demonstrating a nuanced understanding of the
subject matter is key to producing a high-quality essay.
While writing such an essay can be demanding, the reward lies in the opportunity to showcase
your analytical skills, critical thinking abilities, and writing prowess. Ultimately, a well-crafted
compare and contrast essay provides readers with valuable insights and a deeper understanding
of the subjects being examined.

The Importance Of Forensic Pathology
Abstract
Forensic pathologist play a vital role in the justice system in matters concerning
questions of death. Forensic pathology has been considered a specialty in medicine.
Although often not recognized forensic pathology is a growing specialty. Recent
decades have brought a plethora of technological advances, popularized criminal
cases, and even mainstream media programs that has pushed this specialty into the
eyes of the public, boosting this professions esteem. However modern forensic science
faces enormous challenges. Forensic science has not developed a culture that reflects
important aspects of how science builds on peer review research. The Importance of
Forensic Pathologist
The role of a forensics pathologist in today s society has become one of great
importance. These pathologist provide huge contributions to court cases, grieving
families, and the universe, in general. Society should know the essential information
of a forensic pathologist, the responsibilities, the aspects examined when a forensics
pathologist is determinig the cause of death, why they play a important part in the
universe, and lastly why there is not a huge amount of forensic pathologist. Society,
as a whole, does not recognize how important the role a forensics pathologist plays in
solving the unknown.

According to Nicole Callaghan, a biology evidence instructor, with a bachelors in
forensic science, pathologist are trained to speak for the dead, they deal more with
Abortion In Hills Like White Elephants By Ernest
Hemmingway
In 2017, abortion is still a taboo subject. It is something society often avoids talking
about due to the fear of creating a political uproar resulting from the opinion of one
individual. Therefore, it should come as a surprise that one would find Hills Like
White Elephants, a short story written by Ernest Hemmingway in 1927, that solely
revolves around the idea of abortion. Within the decade or so prior to Hemmingway s
story, abortion was something that was often not discussed or written about in papers
unless the result of the abortion was the deathof the mother. When abortion was
mentioned in the local newspapers, the writers did not express sorrow for the unborn
child or anger towards the mother s actions; rather, they expressed pity for the
women and hatred towards the doctoror midwife who attempted the procedure. After
analyzing historical newspaper articles from the early 1900 s relating to abortion, one
would find abortion is only mentioned when the women died as a result of the
operation with little to no blame put upon the often young and poor mother, but
rather on the individual who performed the procedure.
While it is undeniable that the law enforcement during the early 1900 s was trying
to prevent women from obtaining abortions, the women were often regarded as the
victim in the papers after their deaths. On June 2nd, 1915, The Day Book, a
newspaper based out of Chicago, reported the death of Anna Johnson after a faulty
abortion. The article discusses a
Winston Churchill s Life Of Reason
Winston Churchill once said History will be kind to me, for I intend to write it
myself. Churchill spent many decades in service to Great Britain as both a military
officer and politician. He served in Parliament and as the Prime Minister of the
United Kingdom for nearly a decade. Churchill illustrated the real meaning of this
quote by becoming one of the most influential men in the history of the United
Kingdom. Historians widely attribute Churchill with being the greatest statesman of
the 20th century. He made numerous contributions to the people of his nation and the
world. Churchill s point is that if one does not do anything great with his life, he will
not be remembered. Not all men have the opportunity to become war heroes... Show

Military leaders often study their enemies past or the location in which they operate
to better understand what they are up against and what will make them successful.
LTC Hal Moore studied his enemy extensively before taking part in the Battle of Ia
Drang in Viet Nam, 1965. This was the first major engagement of the war between
regular U.S. and North Vietnamese forces. Had he not known his enemy s tactics, the
soldiers of the 1st Battalion, 7th Cavalry would ve been crushed by the North
Vietnamese troops. Today, events called staff rides have become commonplace in the
United States military. Officers study different aspects of a particular battle and visit
the site, each taking turns briefing their part so all may visualize and fully understand

Passionate About Women s Reproductive Rights
Something I feel very passionate about women s reproductive rights. As a
Christian I believe that it s not right to take any life for granted, but I think it s
even more important is not imposing my ideals on someone else. I think every
women should have control over her body. Only females to impose my ideals on
other people. Females are gifted with the blessing of a child baring woum.
Sometimes situations are unfortunate and terrible. I never will be in the shoes of the
women next, nor will she be in mine. Why should I be the one to make the decision
that will transform her life. I understand that an unborn child has a heart and is just
as much of a person as I am, but I know that things happen for a reason. For example,
my father had multiple... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Something terrible must have happened to the person before an abortion is even
an acceptable thought. Then others say that even in cases of rape the woman must
keep the child. It s true that the child is not at fault for the tragedy, but should
someone who has never felt the pain and the helplessness of rape be allowed to
make that choice for those forced to experience it? Even if the woman only wants
an abortion due to the fact that she is not prepared then who am I to decide how
she will be forced to spend her time, money, energy, and the next 18 years of her
life on? Also, if abortions were banned completely then women would just receive
an unregulated, unsafe, and illegal abortion. Those who think the that drugs are the
most important things in life will find a way to get them, those who believe they
need a gun because their life is threatened will find a gun, and those who think an
abortion is the only thing that will let them go on with their life will find someone
who is willing to perform the surgery. My second question was chosen because I feel
that a group of people is making the decisions for the entire, and is enforcing their
way of life on millions who have completely different mindsets. But if the country
demands ignore that, then in what ways can they help prevent the pregnancy or help
once the baby has already
Summary Of Anne Frank The Diary Of A Young Girl
How would you react if your family was loathed by both the government and
neighboring citizens simply because of your religion? What if you were ordered to
work at a German labor camp, and if you didn t, there would be serious
consequences? In the diary, Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne
Frank, Anne and her family go through the same exact situation but they choose to
go into hiding instead of fleeing the German occupied country. All of the
characters, the setting, and the theme depicted on what would come in the near
future. Anne and her family also go through unexpected daily situations that not
only affect them as a whole, but stands as a place in Anne s heart. The characters
were an extraordinarily significant aspect of how the story would turn out in the
end. Anne, her family, the van Daan family, and Albert Dussel went into hiding at
the Secret Annex. Anne was particularly attached to her father, Otto, because she
felt he was always there for him. ВЁI model myself after Father, and there s no one
in the world I love more. He doesn t realize that he treats Margot differently than he
does me: Margot just happens to be the smartest, the kindest, the prettiest and the
best. But I have a right to be taken seriously too, (10 30 1943). She explained that
her father had great sympathy towards her, but she wanted to be perceived as an
adult too. There were also residents she despised, like Mrs. van Daan. Anne and Mrs.
van Daan thought very different from each
Comparison Of The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe
I read an imaginative book called The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe by C.S.
Lewis. In the book, there are four orphans. There names are Susan, Peter, Edmund
and Lucy. They live in a mansion with a very kind homeowner. Lucy is the youngest
and Edmund is the second youngest. Therefore, if Lucy says something, the others
will most likely not believe it. Edmund is the second youngest. Edmund is very
adventurous, and very kindhearted. That is how trouble comes to Edmund. He
kindheartedly believes the White Witch is a good person. He accepts food and then
that is how he is under the White Witch s control. Soon enough both Lucy and
Edmund face problems. Also, even though both of them are the youngest in the book
they play important roles. Lucy... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I knew you were a great storyteller. THAT IS NOT A STORY, Lucy shouts back It is
real. Don t lie, says Peter. Lucy and Peter keep on fighting until they reached the
decision to talk to the homeowner. Luckily, the homeowner settles everything.
Lucy is an important role in story because she is the first to discover Narnia. She
also created conflict with the other siblings and persuades them to go to Narnia.
Narnia is where the setting of the story is. Edmund is the second youngest but he
is much more adventurous then Peter and Susan. As he believes Lucy, he goes
through the wardrobe with Lucy. He eventually gets lost. As he goes searching for
Lucy, he meets the White Witch. He does not know that she is the White Witch;
the most evil ruler of all. The White Witch came in her sled and with a nice look on
her face. The White Witch offered Edmund ham. Edmund at that time was very
hungry so he accepted. Again, not knowing that if you eat food from the White
Witch you will become memorized and under the White Witch s commands. He ate
the ham. The White Witch knows that Edmund is a Son of Adam so she asks
Edmund if he has any other siblings. Edmund replies three. The White Witch is
feeling great because all she needs to fulfill the prophecy is four Daughters of Eves
/ Son of Adam. After the White Witch heard all this information, she let Edmund go
with a task. The task is to persuade all of Edmunds siblings to come to Narnia

developed to improve water use for agriculture yields. Energy conservation is a
very critical issue in wireless sensor networks. For monitoring the energy
consumption MAC protocols plays a very major role. With the help sensors and
simple circuitry this work purposes low cost product, which can be bought even by
a poor farmer. The structure has a dispersed sensor nodes (SN) comprising of soil
moisture, humidity and temperature sensors located in the soil and base station
(BS). BS will gather data from SN. If the collected data in the BS is less than
threshold value then BS will perform a needed action for irrigation. In this project, a
TDMA based algorithm and single hop wireless communication are used to provide
better energy efficiency. Network Simulator 3 (NS 3) has been used for the
exploration of the algorithm.

Tracing Changes in Pythagoras Speech in Ovid s Metamorphoses
Change in Ovid, as well as in life, seems to be the only constant. Change is the
subject of the Metamorphoses and Ovid s purpose in recounting myths is established
from the very beginning: My intention is to tell of bodies changed to different forms...
with a poem that runs from the world s beginning to our own days (1.1 4). From this
foundation, Ovid launches into his stories, using metamorphosis more as a vehicle
for telling his stories than as an actual subject matter. Although he retells religious
myths, Ovid is not writing a religious manuscript. Rather, the product is a work of
literature. Ovid is conscious that he is writing literature, not religion, and ... Show

By contrast, Ovid s motives in narrating myths in the Metamorphoses are rarely
ulterior. Most myths are free of the religious implications and the moralistic
nuances that his Greek predecessors used as the backbone of their plays and poems.
Instead, Ovid chooses to entertain his readership by his brilliant language and
delight them with not only absorbing tales, but also with his masterful talent of
weaving narratives together. Let us not be overzealous and label Ovid as an
entertainer, for his themes and purpose change as quickly as the stories he narrates.
Rather, it is safer to say that Ovid relieves his audience of any ulterior religious or
moral meaning.
Pythagoras, on the other hand, inveighs against his audience to refrain from meat
eating, in some cases comparing them to cannibals like Thyestes and the Cyclops.
Pythagoras neglects to give a reason for not eating meat, waiting almost a hundred
lines to explain that the spirit comes and goes, is housed wherever it wills, shifts
residence from beasts to men, from men to beasts (15.171 173). Our souls,
Pythagoras claims, are deathless... when they leave our bodies, they find new
dwelling places (15.162 164). Pythagoras asserts that the spirit, or soul, is the same in
men and animals since man can be reincarnated into beast and vice versa; therefore,
eating an animal is equivalent to cannibalism. A contemporary of Pythagoras,
Xenophanes, mocked this belief in the
Hard Rock Historical Context
This paper will situate hard rock in its social and historical context. The genre
itself is a subgenre of rock and roll, it came about when rock n roll musicians
became dissatisfied with the classic rock and roll and created something new. Led
Zeppelin, Deep Purple, and Black Sabbath are prime examples of this genres
group. Hard Rock came into being as a way to communicate thoughts and ideas
regarding major social and political issues of the day. Such concerns included the
assassination of leaders such as Martin Luther King Jr. and John F. Kennedy, the
Vietnam War, and dissatisfaction with middle class values. This music is
characterized by its heavy use of distorted electric guitars, bass, and drums.
Assisted by lyrics inspired by the difficulties of the 1960s. The prime audience of
this music is young Americans, from teens to college students who believe in the
defiance of certain standards and those for peace in a trying world. The genre itself
has helped many young Americans to stand up for their beliefs. Hard rock has
affected many aspects of daily life; including fashion, attitudes, and language. In this
paragraph I will discuss the social, historical, and geographical origins of Hard Rock.

Such themes include; styles of instrumentation and vocals, lyrics inspired by social
difficulties, protest, and a rebellion against traditional values. Hard rock is rather
easy to recognize, with its distorted electric guitar, bass, and drums. Creating a
driving rhythmic sound yet also including psychedelic new sounds. The lyrics
themselves are derived from the musicians interpretation of the current social and
political issues. In the early years of hard one may see problems such as the Vietnam
War, the death of motivational leaders, the Civil Rights movement, and there is an
ever present theme of rebellion. Lyrics inspired by these problems, in turn, inspire the
The Death Of Religion During The Late Victorian Era
Conclusion In sum, this study suggests that the death of religion during the late
Victorian era plays a huge role in failing of both the married and the unmarried
relationships. They seem to do so by raising new attitudes and new behaviours,
especially among the working class who suffer a lot since they lack several things.
The faith and the familylife among these new relationships are nearly destroyed by
society. Morover, religious impact is linked to the behaviours of both married and
unmarried relationships. Religionand family institution emphasize similar values and
depend on each other for reinforcing socialization; researchers anticipate close
relationships between religion and family characteristics. This line of reasoning leads
to the hypotheses that religion strengthens and stabilizes marital relationships. 19

Hardy is transmitting the message that the death of religion causes the failure of
married relationships that lack everything except the contract, the destruction of
unmarried relationship even when it is based on love, and the unexpected destinies of
the fruit of each of these relationships. Thus, Religion is essential to every human
being. Not only does it serve as a foundation for one to form his/her own set of
values. Internal religious conflict can be seen in the form of one s personal struggle
with his/her belief. However, personal struggles are mostly influenced by external
factors, which cause disturbances to one s faith and loyalty to their beliefs. On the
other hand, external conflict is the concept of which chaos occurs in society from
clash of beliefs. Both conflicts between religions and irreligion can cause a huge
negative impact in the relationships in particular and in society in
The Consequences Of Marriage In Regency England
Marriage was a self contradicted idea in Regency England. It secured a woman s
financial security and social importance, but at the same time, her legal and financial
rights went straight from her father to her husband (Ray 131). A highly sought after
marriage was one that had both equal finances and social class (Lathan). The real
question is: How did people in Regency England get married, and what all went into
the process? The four main steps to getting married in Regency England are coming
out, courting, engagement, and getting married. The first step in the marriagemarket is
when the young lady has officially had her coming out moment. In majority
scenarios, a younger sister could not come out until her older ones were either
engaged or already married. However, what determined whether or not a young
lady was ready to come out was maturity. A young lady had to have a proper
education, skills, and mindset before she could be presented to society as an
available bachelorette (Clark). Once the parents determined she was old enough to
come out , she was allowed to attend balls, assemblies, and dinner parties (Ray 114).
Attending these such gatherings required only the latest dresses and hairstyles,
wore the most extravagant pieces of jewelry, and was paraded around by her father
or mother. She had to be the center of attention (Clark). The girl still had to have a
chaperone looking out for her and accompanying her. (Ray 115). A young lady could

In other words, processed foods don t even have probably 1/10 the original
nutrients that were in the food in the native state (Cross). Giving up fast food can be
a challenge, especially when it s much cheaper than eating healthy. But when you
compare the costs of healthy groceries to the medical bills that come from a heart
attack or other preventable health conditions, it s incomparable. In the documentary,
Forks Over Knives, it is explained that every year, America spends around
$2,200,000,000.00 on healthcare and that the most widely prescribed medication

McDonald s famous Happy Meal is marketed specifically towards children; the food
comes in its own bright colored box with a special toy that is constantly changing
to keep up with the newest fads. McDonald s also builds indoor playgrounds for
kids to use while they have their meal, which attracts children and their parents. Of
course, Ronald McDonald the clown, McDonald s notorious mascot is also used to
lure children into the restaurants. Another marketing example used on children is
the placement of unhealthy treats near the checkouts in retail stores. The products,
usually placed at a child s eyes level, are colorful and sometimes have cartoon
characters that appeal to children. Soft drink companies also endorse their products
with popular celebrities and cartoon characters who are often admired by children.
Food companies are also causing poor eating habits in school cafeterias where kids
are offered fast food, burgers, chips, candy, fries, pizza, and sugary drinks. In the
documentary Fed Up, Stephanie Soechtig discloses that In 2006, 80% of all high
schools operated under exclusive contracts with soda companies and by 2012 more
than half of all U.S. school districts served fast food (Soechtig). Setting children up
for failure by offering unhealthy and addictive food options, administrators are
hoping the kids can make healthy decisions. Food

Andrea Roman tells her story, We re Not..., to demonstrate how Bolivian culture has
influenced her life. In her essay she informs the reader about the many things her
mom, a native Bolivian, would scold her for. These atrocious acts included:

None of these things would be judged as wrong in America, they are American
customs or traditions that Roman tried to follow. Roman followed these,
unknowingly disrespecting her family s Bolivian values. David Sedaris wrote

He also stood up against the Taliban when they tried to evacuate Hassan and his
family from Baba s house, which cost him his life. Hassan s character serves as the
justice part of people. The person that always does good and should be an example to
all.
Baba
Baba is a man with very high expectations. He expected Amir to be just like him as
a kid growing up and was never satisfied or proud with anything Amir did. Another
character trait shown by Baba is his patriotism when he took a handful of
Afghanistan soil and kept it before going to America. Baba is also a very brave
man as he stood up for the woman wearing the black shawl when the Russian
soldier wanted to rape her, risking his life in the process. When Baba refused
chemotherapy and the food stamps, it shows that he a very proud man and
wouldn t want to be seen as weak. Last but not least, Baba is a loving man.
Although it didn t seem as so, Baba did love Amir and even Hassan. He helped
Amir ask for Soraya s hand in marriage and he never forgot Hassan s birthday.
Furthermore, Baba is a forgiving person as he forgives Hassan for supposedly
stealing Amir s birthday presents. Baba portrays the character that drives the
protagonist, Amir to strive to be better in everything in order to gain some
appreciation.
Assef
Assef s main character trait is that he is a revengeful person. He held a grudge
against Amir and Hassan after standing up to him and got his revenge on Hassan by
raping him. Even after
A High School Diploma Program
It seems like everyone gets a high school diploma in the United States in the year
2016. Or do they? Is it necessary to to get a high school diploma? As a country, we
have made some progress diminishing educational barriers such as race, gender, and
geography but poverty is still a barrier that can keep a young adult from graduating
from high schooland in turn, continue the cycle of poverty. Does getting a high school
diploma have any effect on generational poverty ?
Poverty is defined as the state of being extremely poor. (Oxford 699) In 2014, 21.1
percent of children under age 18 (15.5 million) in the United States lived in poverty.

Unique Stresses of Generational Poverty that Affect Education
For a child living in poverty, stress can come in many forms. It is commonplace for
the most basic needs such as food, shelter and safety to be the top concern.
Because of the focus on surviving, anything that takes the child away from the
home or requires work in another way, such as school and education, is not very
well supported. Donna M. Beagle, who overcame generational poverty, wrote a
very powerful report about her experiences. She mentions that appearances were
very stressful when she did go to school, stating everyone could tell I was poor by
my ragged clothes, horrible shoes, and free lunch tickets. (Beagle 11) Ms. Beagle
also mentions feeling very stressed about arriving on time to school (since she didn
t have transportation) and being able to complete school projects. To add to that,
there is the possibility of a language barrier even if the same language is spoken.
Without education and language development there are many variations of what is
called non standard English . Ms. Beagle said I said ain t and confused gone with
went and seen with saw . I sensed that I was being judged as unintelligent by those
around me. (11) Many times families in generational poverty have their own oral
language tradition where they may not know how to speak or write formally. Often,
children of poverty lack language skills needed for school. Their grammar

Trump s vote percentage started going astray and so did his ranking, going from
first to second in the NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll, while different national

Trump s Republican opposers have showed that they have hope towards an end
nearing Trump as the Republican nominations are approaching and he might
potentially loose votes against his opponents. The NBC/WSJ poll concluded that 56
percent of Republican voters could see themselves voting for Trump, which is a drop
of 9% when 65 percent of the voters could see themselves voting for the successful
businessman in January. On the opposing side, 70% of the voters could see
themselves voting for Marco Rubio and 65 percent see themselves voting for Ted

According to the poll, if the competition was confined to a two candidate race in
which Trump would go head to head with Cruz and Rubio, Cruz would lead Trump
with 56 percent to 40% and the Senator of Florida, Marco Rubio, would lead Trump

The Effects Of Consumerism
Consumerism comes from the verb consume, which is rooted in the Latin word
consumere, meaning to use up or to waste. The noun consumerism also refers to a
movement that promotes the interests of consumers that is, people who purchase
goods, use them, and then buy more especially the protection of these consumers
from things like fraud or price gouging ( Consumerism). Consumerism has changed
over the thousands of years that people have been living. Some people believe that
consumerism is great where it helps stimulate the economy, but other people see it
as an evil force because it hurts people and makes them care less about their self and
the world around them. I can agree with the people that says it is good for the
economy; however, I have seen for myself that consumerism hurts people on different
levels that other factors can not compete with. I believe that excessive consumerism is

It often makes people think that they have to have the newest items, but an
experiment taken on by Alex Martin proves different. Alex Martin is a resident
from Seattle who decided to wear the same dress for a year in a way to protest
against consumerism in the fashion industry (Holt 2). In an interview that I have
read from NBC Learn, she had mentioned that she had seen that people did not
really notice that she had the same dress on every time they saw each other. She
said, We re all so concerned on about our own lives what we re wearing and our work
and our families we don t keep a mental tally of what people are wearing (Holt 2). I
can see her point of view from this angle and I say that I would have to agree with
Alex one hundred percent. From previous experiences, I have seen people wear the
same thing multiple days in a row, but my colleges have not noticed and tend to
believe that they are wearing something new everyday. This is not the mentality
people need to have on a day to day
Genealogy In The Book Of Ruth
In Bible several women played a vital role for the liberation of people. In OT
prominent two women Esther and Ruth, Esther was a Hebrew woman who married
to a Gentile kind and Ruth was a gentile and married a Hebrew. Esther helped her
people from the destruction and Ruth helped them to come out from distress. Even
the book of Ruthis small, but this outstanding book covers many principles with
profound impact to our lives today.
Because of the lost of Naomi s husband and sons she decided to move back to
Judah. Incredible love of Ruth for her mother in law and she did not left Naomi
alone, and later Boaz take Ruth as wife and the Ruth is hereby brought in among
the ancestors of David and Christ, which was the great honor. The genealogy is
here drawn from Pharez, through Boaz and Obed, to David, and so leads towards
the Messiah, and therefore it is not an endless genealogy. The Faithfulness of God

St. Augustine Confessions
In his autobiography Confessions, Saint Augustine tells the story of the day he
walked to give a speech of undeserved praise towards emperor, and on the way
Augustine spots a drunken beggar asking for change that would ultimately help shape
Augustine s views of true happiness and life fulfillment. Saint Augustine made the
realization that just as the beggar perceived themselves fulfilled by alcohol, he
himself tried to find to find fulfillment through others looking highly upon him and
praising him. However, much like the pleasurethe beggar received from consuming
alcohol, the pleasure Augustine found through others gratification was only temporal.
Augustine theorized that the true fulfillment that he seeks can only come from living
a life deemed worthy by God. This idea opposes the Grecian ideals found in Homer s
The Odyssey . For the Greeks, a person strived to make a name for themselves for
the sake of eternal glory. In essence, it was solely for self pride that the Grecian
warrior performed heroic deeds. They attributed their skill to themselves, almost
trying to become equal to the gods they worshiped. This encounter with the beggar
helped transform Augustine s view, causing him to stray away from performing deed
solely for Earthly recognition, but instead make an eternal name for himself in the
light of God. In his opening remarks with the beggar, Augustine notes I was all hot
for honours, money, marriage: and You made mock of my hotness (Augustine 101). In
The Importance Of Eminent Domain
How safe do you think your property is? Eminent domain is the right of the
government to take private property for public use for fair compensation. It is
described in the U.S. Constitution as the Fifth Amendment which states: ( Annotation
14 Fifth Amendment FindLaw. Findlaw. N.p., n.d. Web. 28 Apr. 2016.) nor shall
private property be taken for public use, without just compensation. This right is to
only be used for times of war and emergencies but lately the government s control
over this power has taken a turn for the worse. Eminent domain is being abused by
the government and the result is the destruction of communities and opportunities for
the minority. Eminent domain is only meant to be used in times of war and
emergencies. An example of the correct usage of this right would be the building of
interstate highways during the Cold Warera for quick evacuation of key cities and
speedy transport of military across the nation. A great deal... Show more content on

It is not the owner s choice on whether or not to exchange their property and take
the government s offer. This has forced residents for their property for over 300
years. This leads to problems like the poor being left homeless and the destruction
of small local societies. Many consider this right to be unfair and have grievances.
An article from the FEE s website states: (Boudreaux, Donald J. The Dangers of

state that can seize people s homes can also seize publisher s presses and
broadcaster s studios. And no one should be trusted with such power. Anyone
possessing it is too easily tempted to abuse it. In other words, anyone with this
power can seize control over more than just people s private property, but can even
take control of the presses and studios which control the media. All of this property
is taken for social benefit when it is actually for one s own
Picture Plane
Using comparative analysis, the obvious similarity between the paintings is the
subject matter, the genre of still life and the medium of oil. However, the paintings
differ in composition. Moillon s traditional delineation and modelling has a
photographic effect. In turn, the graduation of tone by blending black and white with
other hues creates a smooth effect with a picture plane that forms an invisible barrier,
engaging the spectator from a distance. In contrast, CГ©zanne s modernist
delineation and modelling uses disruptive effects that create an illusion of tactility
emerging from the picture plane. This is seen in the spatial relationship between the
pears in the foreground of Still Life with Pot of Flowers and Pears. Multiple shades...

However, the spectator can be left emotionally detached and uninvolved.
Contrastingly, Still Life with Pot of Flowers and Pears invites the spectator to
reach beyond the picture plane to the illusion of tactility presented on the literal
surface of the canvas. In the early 1600s still life paintings became a distinct genre
called Vanitases and were allegorical, The commonest allegories were those that
encouraged philosophical reflection on human mortality and on the transience of
sensory pleasures and material possessions (Harrison, 2008, p. 79). As such, Still
Life with bowl of CuraТ«ao Oranges represents the ephemerality of life. The
delicate porcelain bowl symbolises human fragility and the CuraТ«ao Oranges
signify life, decay and death. Conversely, formal analysis of CГ©zanne s Still Life
with Pot of Flowers and Pears reveals freshness and honesty. The arrangement of
objects aspires to a fair and well ordered world and although the extrapolation from
formalism to the real world seems fanciful, it has cemented CГ©zanne s reputation as
a progenitor of art s avant garde
The Benefits Of Sleeping On A Problem Essay
The Benefits of Sleeping on a Problem Introduction If you re like most people, you
have probably been told, when you re struggling with a problem or decision, that it
s a good idea to sleep on it. It s something that people say so frequently that it has
become something of a clichГ©. Like most clichГ©s, though, it turns out that
there s some truth to it. In 1865, a German chemist named Friedrich August Kekule
von Stradonitz solved a problem that had been puzzling scientists for decades. He
published a paper identifying the structure of benzene as a ring of carbon atoms.
Years later, when he was giving a talk about how he made his breakthrough
discovery, he credited it to a dream he d had. In the dream, he saw an image of a
serpent swallowing its own tail, something that is called ouroboros. The symbol
dates back to early Indian, Egyptian and Greek mythology. The sight of the symbol
revealed the ring like structure of benzene to him. Von Stradonitz is not alone.
History is littered with similar examples. Human beings sometimes wake up with
the solution to a complex problem, something they have been wrestling with, clear
in their heads. Why does this happen? Is there scientific merit to the idea of
sleeping on a problem? In this article, we will explore the notion that sleeping on a
problem can help us solve it. It s a somewhat complex topic, but one worth
investigating. The first key to understanding what happens in our brains while we
sleep is to talk about why we need
Securing It Infrastructure At Wd Enterprises
Securing IT Infrastructure at WD Enterprises
In order to properly secure the Information Technology (IT) infrastructure today, there
are many different areas that need to be addressed. Each of these areas pose different
vulnerabilities and challenges to properly securing an IT environment. By identifying
these vulnerabilities, applying controls to address them, and designing a robust
security plan the IT infrastructure at WD Enterprises will be more secure and
provide better protection against these threats. This plan along with design and
application of a code of ethics related to the IT profession, will ensure the staff is
held accountable to the standards and objectives of the organization. To accomplish
these goals, a review of the organization s vulnerabilities will be performed
followed by suggestions and discussions of the security models that can be used to
overcome these risks. Following that, a security plan will be designed along with a
code of ethics. These will become the blueprint for securing the IT infrastructure at
WD Enterprises.
WD Enterprises Infrastructure
Securing an IT environment properly can be broken down into three basic questions.
The first question to address is what assets within the organization need protection?
After these assets have been identified, it is important to ask in what are they
threatened? Finally, the question of what needs to be done to counteract these threats
(Stallings Brown, 2012)? By answering these questions, it is
Emancipative Values In Good Bye Lenin
One example of an emancipative value at work in the film Good Bye Lenin! is
seen in the young characters longing for individual autonomy. For example, Ariane
is portrayed as a young woman who decides to change the course of her life
immediately after the fall of communism. Instead of continuing her education in the
field of economy, Ariane decides to stop attending school and takes a position at a
fast food restaurant, which is likely caused by wanting to become financially
independent. As the country s economic situation improved, many young people in
Germany begun to place more emphasis on self expression, which also resulted
from having the autonomy over one s choices. This can be observed when Ariane
changes her style of dress by starting to wear more revealing clothes and heavier
makeup. Another example of self expression at work is when Ariane and her
boyfriend are shown to dress up and dance to Indian music.
Another example of an emancipative value is observed when we see the helicopter
flying away with the statue of Lenin. It can be assumed from this scene that the
statue of Lenin was a popular landmark during the socialist Germany as is
symbolized the power of the communist regime. In my opinion, this scene has a
symbolic meaning as it represents the German society s challenging the old authority
and its desire for political freedom and democracy.
An example of a conservative value in the film can be observed in the behavior of
one of Alex s older neighbors. Throughout the movie, he is shown to voice his
negative opinions regarding the new political system and complaining about the
massive loss of jobs that the working class experienced as a result of the fall of
communism. In the communistic society, most members are assigned some sort of a
job or a role, and therefore it is difficult for the old neighbor to accept that now so
many lost their employment.
Another conservative value at work in the film can also be observed in Alex s
behavior. Although the character is shown to enjoy and even fight for the new
political freedom, as the movie unfolds, it becomes clear that in his actions to protect
his mother. Alex is also attempting to recreate an old sentiment and create a reality
that he wishes
Character Design Of The Straw Hat Pirates
[IMG=UXV]
[C]Iconic is a great word to describe the character design of the Straw Hat Pirates.
Grouping each member in cover spreads or fanart just goes to show you how
diverse these character s are, with differences in apparel, physique, and even in
genetic makeup (eye s, hair color, skin color etc.) showcasing the individuality of
these people and signifies what type of person they are.
[C]Zoro s scarred eye and life threatening wound on his chest are reminders of his
past losses, but his strong physique and serious expression reveals that despite
these defeats, he is a man determined to move past these losses and not let them end
his journey. Chopper s hat, given to him by Dr. Hiriluk, who inspired him to
become a doctor, while once without accessories, now is under a big blue cap, not
only making his design stylish than before and honestly exponentially more
adorable, but symbolizing Chopper s determination to be a much more skilled
doctor than his father figure, or to be above what Dr. Hiriluk was. I could and will
make an entire blog revolving around their designs, as not only are they stylish,
expressive, and dissimilar to one another, but tell us a bit more about them as people.
And the character whose design has the most going on of the Straw Hat s, is Cutty
Flam, known by fans and his crew as Franky.
[IMG=G6Q]
[C]And, on a superficial level, I do love his design. It does get across his eccentric
side, his obsession with looking as cool as possible for all men
Unilateral Vocal Fold Paralysis ( Uvfp )
Unilateral Vocal Fold Paralysis
Heather Newberg
Jacksonville University
INTRODUCTION
Unilateral vocal fold paralysis (UVFP) is the complete immobility of one vocal fold.
According to Sapienza and Ruddy (2013), 90% of vocal fold paralysis that occurs is
unilateral and caused by damage to the peripheral nervous system (p. 189). Vocal fold
paralysis is typically considered a symptom of a disease or neurologic disruption. In
one study, it was found that vocal fold paralysis was caused by surgical trauma,
tumors or neoplasms, unknown or idiopathic factors, trauma, central nervous system
dysfunction, radiation, inflammatory, cardiovascular, and other causes (Chen, Jen,
Wang, Lee, Lin, 2007). Symptoms of unilateral vocal fold paralysis may include:
aphonia, abnormal vocal quality (breathy, hoarse, and/or strained), and dysphagia.
Onset of UVFP may be life altering as the individual has to find compensatory
strategies for voicing or even alternative methods of communication. The individual
is also left susceptible to aspiration due to the lack of airway protection. These factors
make it critical to diagnose the impairment so as to provide the appropriate treatment.
DIAGNOSIS
Vocal fold paralysis is diagnosed by an otolaryngologist through the use of
endoscopy, laryngostroboscopy, and laryngeal electromyography. Two types of
endoscopes may be used to visualize the vocal folds. One type is a rigid endoscope
that is placed in the back of the oral cavity with a camera pointing down
Examples Of Pride In To Kill A Mockingbird

The Scarlet Ibis, and I, Too, it is clear that pride can drive characters to make life

inordinate opinion of one s own dignity, importance, merit, or superiority, whether
as cherished in the mind or as displayed in bearing, conduct 1. There are different
types of pride superiority, arrogance and dignity 2. These are the main types of pride
that you see the most in people. In the novel To Kill a Mockingbirdpride comes in

Nurses and Nurse Practitioners and their Impact The idea of nursing actually pre
dates the 19th century, but the first professional nurse is Florence Nightingale.
Traditionally, only sick people with families could get the level of care needed, but
Nightingale realized the mistake in that assumption. If one didn t have a family
they couldn t get the correct level of care. During the Crimean War, Nightingale
helped clean the soldier s wounds, provide wholesome food, and generally keep the
wounded tent clean. This drastically reduced the amount of casualties and thus the
idea of professional nurses was born. A few years down the road, physicians gave

Appalachian Mountains And Appalachians
Appalachians
The Appalachian Mountains region is roughly 360,000 km squared, taking up about
3.6 percent of Canada s land surface. This region locates itself on the islands of
Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and a bit of Quebec, with
Moncton and Halifax as some of its major cities. The rocks, most of which are mostly
sedimentary, were changed drastically when Europe and North America collided,
causing its geography to be uneven, with many jagged peaks. Forestry, agriculture,
fishing, tourism, coal mining, logging, and manufacturing are their main
industries.Their overall population lands at a bit more than 25 million. Some
interesting facts are that they have the oldest mountains and the richest fishing.
Canadian Shield Despite covering 5 million km squared of land (over 50 percent) it
does not have ideal soil for crops while having the richest area for mining. The
Canadian Shield occupies most of Quebec, much of Ontario, Nunavut, Saskatchewan,
and the Northwest Territories and a small portion of Alberta. Some of the jobs in this
area of only 7 million are lumbering, mining, and manufacturing. Their land contains
mostly igneous and metamorphic rock plus many minerals (gold, nickel, lead,
copper, zinc,). When the tectonic plates collided the mountains, later eroded to
flatland or rounded hills. Its geography also contains rivers and lakes from glaciers.
Some of their largest cities are Montreal and Kugluktuk.

False Analogy
Part One: Overall, the argument presented is strong however, it is not without flaw.
The first place we see this is in the last sentence of paragraph one Although, having a
positive body image is good, it does not outweigh the negative consequences brought
about by the normalization of obesity. The assertion made here, dismisses the
psychological harm brought about by a negative body image. For example, the
prevalence of eating disorders in American women that can bring about equal health
risks. Moving forward, it could be argued that the author makes a false analogy
throughout paragraph one by comparing the health risks of smoking to the health
risks of obesity. Furthermore, even in the absence of the false analogy the assertions
made about both the health risks of both lack any academic backing, consequently,
many readers will dismiss the argument immediately. Paragraph three, makes the
assumption that readers adopt a utilitarian moral view. Due to this, readers who do
not hold this view are neglected. In the third paragraph, the author again makes a
generalization about the reader; he assumes that the reader knows that BMI stands
for body mass index. By not making this clear, the reader may become confused.
Throughout the entirety of the essay the author, speaks as if the ideal body type is
one that is obese, and it isn t until the final paragraph that it is even mentioned that
the current and most prominent standards of beauty are (for women anyway) ultra
thin body types. It could be argued that this is irrelevant and that the... Show more

It s Time To End Poverty In The United States
Throughout years poverty has been an ongoing situation that has only been increasing
throughout the years. Many efforts have been issued by the government over the
situation; but yet many of those efforts have failed to succeed. Increased dependency
is the only long term impact that government efforts have had on poverty. By solving
poverty the government could make the economy grow more for everyone , because
many people would be going back into the workforce. The government has a
responsibility to end poverty through providing education, better programs, and jobs.
Poverty is the condition of being unable to obtain socially money or possessions.

Their are some drawbacks to ending poverty; If the government were to end poverty
in the united states it would take a lot of time and money. Their would also be many
arguments over the topic between wealthy people and poor people because the
wealthier people would not benefit from it. Which would eventually lead to a
communism because if they were to solve poverty throughout the united states
there would have to be a tax implemented for it. Which is where the argument
would lead to; the tax that the people would have to pay. There would also be
arguments over blaming the poor because people against the situation would make

The Impact Of Air Quality In China
China is one of the countries with the poorest air quality. Moreover, Eastern China
has an average air quality index (AQI) of 180, and some locations like Jiangbei,
Songyuan have an AQI rating of over 500 (World Air Quality, 2017). Typically, on
the AQI, a rating of above 150 is unhealthy, where individuals may experience mild
to serious health effects from poor air quality (World Air Quality, 2017).
Additionally, an AQI of above 200 is considered hazardous, which leads to the
entire population experiencing sever health effects (World Air Quality, 2017). In
fact, China s poor air quality directly causes 1.6 million deaths a year, which
equates to 4000 deaths per day (Ramsey, 2015). Subsequently, over 50% of Canada s

Canada can work with China to improve their air quality and protect their
environment, by stipulating that the companies that supply Canada with goods from
China must obtain the ISO 14001 certification. Furthermore, the International
Organization for Standardization s (ISO) ISO 14001 is an environmental management
system that helps companies reduce their environmental impact (International
Organization for Standardization, n.d.). Specifically, ISO 14001 includes 5
elements: the environmental policy to adhere by, the development of company
procedures to describe compliance to ISO s policies, the implementation and
operation of the company s procedures, the audits that ensure the organization is
following their procedures and ISO s policies, and lastly the management review
(ENLAR Compliance Services, 2013). As a result, if many private companies have
an incentive to reduce emissions in China, there will be more focus within the
country to accomplish the goal to improve their air quality. However, this may
decrease profits for many Chinese company s, which may put 10 million jobs at risk
in the textile industry alone (Kane, 2014). Alternatively, Canada s Manufacturers of

comprised of many large companies operating in the industry of industrial emissions
control (Government of Canada, 2011). Therefore, MECA can work
The Importance Of The Right To Privacy
However, the Court also cautioned in the same case that the right to privacy is not
absolute. The right to privacy does not bar all incursions into individual privacy. The
right is not intended to stifle scientific and technological advancements that enhance
public service and the common good. It merely requires that the law be narrowly
focused and a compelling interest justify such intrusions. Intrusions into the right
must be accompanied by proper safeguards and well defined standards to prevent
unconstitutional invasions. When a certain technology is used for legitimate reasons
coupled by adequate safeguards, the intrusion is justified. However, when an already
intrusive technology is used for non legitimate reasons, the right to privacy is violated.
An instance when technology is used for non legitimate reasons is when it is used
to commit abuses. The following are the ways in which a CCTV System may be
abused by its operator(s):
Criminal Abuse
In using surveillance systems, bad apples in the law enforcement authorities are
presented with a tempting opportunity for criminal misuse. Criminal abuse refers to
the kind of abuse which in itself constitutes a crime or one which results to a
commission of a crime. An example is when a top ranking police official in
Washington, D.C. was caught using police databases to maliciously gather
information of patrons of a gay club. License plate numbers of cars parked at the
club were captured and by researching on the background
How Did Roman Governments Influence The Constitution
In conclusion, the Roman government, British Government, and Enlightened thinkers
did indeed influence the Constitution to what it has become today.
Ancient Rome s republicanism, separation of powers, and checks and balances tied
greatly to the Constitution s ideas. The aspects of Republicanism is found in a
democratic government and is also what the United States government has evolved to
today. Likewise, the way the Constitution implemented the three branches of
government is extremely similar to how Ancient Rome organized their Consuls,
Senate, and Tribunes. With Consuls being like the legislative branch, the Senate
would be similar to the Legislative branch, and the Tribunes are extremely similar to
the Judicial branch. In bose cases, the three ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Similarly, but not identical, the English Bill of Rights affected everybody and not
just nobles. It instilled the idea of personal freedoms that the Magna Carta does not
talk about. Another instance that the Framers help based their Constitution off of
was the idea of Parliament. Parliament was created to help check the crown s power,
thus giving the idea of checks and balances and how there can t be an abuse of power.
Finally, the Enlightened thinkers played a huge role in developing the Constitution
through their ideas and philosophies. Montesquieu was another person that believed
that there must be a separation of powers between government so that no parts of
government had too much power. Voltaire believed in the separation between the
church and state and additionally, the freedom of religion. Similarly to the
Mayflower Compact, Rousseau believed that there is always a social contract
between the government and the people and the people have the power to tear the
government down if they believe that their rights are abused. The 45th President of
the United States is one of the most noticeable presidents in the history of the United
States. Instead of

and Elizabeth of York, were very loving and proud parents, even though they didn t
see much of their children. Henry was their second son. He was styled as the Duke
of York . He had his own servants, Court Jesters, and to top it off he had is own
whipping boy that would receive whippings whenever Henry did something bad.
Henry was said to be charming, handsome and full of life. He loved music, so much
that when he was only ten years old he could play many instruments including the
Fife, Harp, Viola, and drums. He was also very smart. He could speak French, Latin,
and a bit of Spanish. He loved Hunting. His favorite sports were hunting ,of ... Show

2nd half of Reign
Henry was engaged to Catherine of Aragon, widow of his older brother Arthur at
age 12 when his brother died. Catherine was 5 years older than Henry was. They
were married when Henry s father, Henry VII, died and Henry VIII took the Throne
and Catherine became Queen.
At this time Henry wanted a son so badly, an heir to his throne. Catherine had many
children with with Henry. Only one survived and it unfortunately was not a boy. It
was a girl, Princess Mary. She somehow managed to survive the plagues and
sicknesses at that time. Although Henry wanted a son badly and did not get one he
still did not blame Catherine for not giving him any boys.
During the time he was with his 1st wife Catherine he was believed to have been
with 2 mistresses. He didn t know that Catherine knew he had them all along and
she kept silent about it. Then he met his second wife. Her name was Anne Boleyn.
She was the daughter of an English diplomat who lived in France and served Henry
VIII s sister Mary. After King Luis died Mary returned to England and became one
of Catherine s servants. With her, she was secretly betrothed to Henry Percy. Percy
was already promised to another woman and his parents would never except him
marrying her. Wolsey found out and told the King and Anne was banished from the
royal court. She held a grudge against Wolsey and never forgave him for it. She
returned in 1524 or 1525. In 1526 Henry began to pursue her. She refused
Becoming A Mentee
I have been a mentee throughout various phases of my career as well as in school.
I have had great mentors who have been very open and honest about strengths and
weaknesses and who have tried to guide me over the years. It has been a tremendous
benefit and something I probably took for granted until I was asked to participate in a
formal mentorshipprogram at work. The mentorship committee spent a lot of time
developing documentation and discussing goals and expectations for both sides
which I found encouraging. The mentees and mentors were given an overview of
what to expect and how to prepare for their meetings with the mentee clearly being
told that they had to schedule the meetings, determine the recurrence and drive the
discussion. The mentors were given guidelines on how to work with the mentees and
how to encourage participation.
One of the key items I would identify as fundamental for mentees to be successful is
to have them develop and define a goal. The mentee must know what they expect to
gain from the relationship to be able to measure and determine if it was successful.
One of the main points to cover with a mentee is to ensure they understand that they
are guiding their own destiny and the expectation that a mentor will have all the
answers is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A community of practice is a group or groups of people who share a concern or
passion in what they do and learn how to do it better as they interact. A good
example of micro level knowledge is the knowledge required to execute a task on a
project. An example of a community of practice can be an association of specific
professionals who meet to discuss challenges, trends in their fields and collaborate
to help each other. Mentors can be viewed as individuals who are sharing their
micro level knowledge in a community of practice that can be defined by boundaries
such as the workplace or a
Cultural Reflection
Prior to taking this course, I had put very little thought into my culture let alone
grappled with the fact that culture is far more complex than something that we
simply have. Early in the semester we touched upon the fact that culture is, in
actuality, much more nuanced and is something practiced and experienced differently
on every scale and in every interaction throughout every person s lifetime. Upon
completion of the course, an investigation into my own culturewill exemplify just
that. First, looking at historical, cultural and family background, I will examine
how my position within my unique family has shaped how I approach the world
around me. Here I will tie in an especially personal element that I feel shapes many
parts of my cultural identity being the fact that I am adopted. Next, an examination
of the significance of travel, migration, and languages in my life builds on tradition,
but reflects an identity that I have recently taken on as an independent young adult
outside of how I was raised. Then, I will touch upon how nationality and religion
have been significant in my cultural socialization. I will look at how I grapple with
my nationality, and how generational pressures have led to conflicts resulting in
growth, development, and meaningful choices. Finally, looking closely at some of
my most valued friendships, as well as the nature of my broader social life and life
goals, I will argue that they largely reflect elements mentioned earlier, especially
China s Largest Population On Earth
Introduction China is home to the largest population on Earth and they have
experienced dramatic growth during their recent history. China s GDP in 1952 was a
mere 67.9 billion USD which has grown to 10.87 trillion USD today. This GDP
growth is mirrored and positively correlated with China s tremendous population
growth. Chinahas experienced a population growth from under 552 million in 1950
to nearly 1.4 billion today. This tremendous growth has brought about an increased
dependence on the advanced production of food in China. In order to feed this
growing population farmers have been forced to effectively grow their crops and
increase their cultivation per square meter for their farm land. Food has been a staple

In October of 2005 the preserved remains of ancient noodles were discovered at the
Lajia archaeological site which sits on the second terrace of the Yellow River near
Qinghai. These noodles where a revolutionary find allowing anthropologists to
further research ancient Chinese food. The noodles were made from foxtail and
broom corn millet and were preserved for thousands of years in the rock. From
these findings it is clear that grain based noodles have been a staple part of the
Chinese diet for thousands of years. During the time frame from around 2070 BC to
221 BC five chief grains made up the staple diet of the Chinese. This time period
included the Xia, Shang, Zhou dynasties and the Warring States Periodis commonly
referred to as the period of five grains. Anthropologists and historians have found
and studied many different records that argue over which grains were in fact a part
of the five grains. According the Classic of Rites which was comprised by
Confucius and his followers during the 6th century the five staple grains included
soybeans, rice, proso millet, foxtail millet, and wheat. Scholars argue over the which
grains were a part of the traditional five. Another version of the Classic of Rights
replaces rice with hemp. Before the rise of Confucius there was no prior record of the
way that the Chinese cooked their food. Confucius through his teaching and wisdom
laid the groundwork and developed the norms
Comparing Julius Caesar And Antony
Octavian and Antony No contemporaries could have possibly known for sure as to
who the victor would be from the conflict that arose between Gaius Julius Ceasar
Octavianus, Octavian, and Marcus Antonius, Antony. However, knowing what the
ultimate outcome of the struggle was, one may be able to look back into history
and offer key reasons as to why Octavian was able to defeat Antony. Ultimately, I
believe there was not one key reason for Octavian victory. It was a combination of
Octavian s proximity to Rome, his favor with the citizens, and the elimination of his
opposition at home that all combined to allow his eventual triumph. Overlooking
some smaller details, it is first important to know that after Julius Ceasar s
assassination that Octavian was named his heir and returned to Italy to claim this
inheritance. From here, he gathered military power and allowed the senate to use
him, in order to advance his political position, and he was sent to fight against a
rebellious Antony. At this point, Octavian did not try to decimate Antony s forces,
instead he proposed and ultimately formed the second triumvirate with Antony and
Lepidus as the other heads of the state (Wells 13). From here, the Roman territories
were divided into areas of governorship with Antony taking the east, Octavian the
west, and Lepidus had the Africa territories (Wells 17). This would turn out to be one
of the main contributing factors in Octavian s ultimate success; for it allowed him the

Wagering In Sports Research Paper
Sports gamblers are always on the prowl for wagering opportunities that bring good
results on a consistent basis. With 50+ major sports represented on the wagering
menus of most of the world s top online sportsbooks, its a difficult task to find sports
that render those kinds of results. With that said, there are some sports that seem
better to wager on than others.
Getting Past Regional Bias
In order for a punter to be able to find sports that render good results, they have to get
past their regional biases. In Australia, punters enjoy wagering on Australian Rules
Football and Rugby. In England and many parts of Europe, a majority of the sports
wagering is focused on European football (soccer). In the US, punters like wagering
on the NFL and NBA, as well as NCAA FB and NCAA BB. While there is some

The Best Sports to Bet
Based on the above criteria, here are the five best sports to wager on.
NCAA FB Due in large part to the potential for a vast difference in the talent levels
between opponents, betting on college football from the US can be very lucrative.
Punters will find plenty of free statistical data and should have no problem finding
good wagering games with 50 60 games available on the schedule every weekend
during the college football season. Particular focus should be paid towards over
/unders.
European Soccer This is an information pick. Due to the massive amounts of media
coverage given to football in Spain, England and Germany, punters have the ability to
stay well informed, which usually translates to making educated plays. The tie option
tends to give extra value to punters who have a strong opinion on a side.
Tennis Due to the disparity in ability, tennis is one of the most predictable sports on
the planet. Of course, the disparity is usually reflected in the
Essay about Andre Dubus The Curse
Andre Dubus The Curse
The Curse ; by Andre Dubus is about Mitchell Hayes, a forty nine year old
bartender who is witness to a rape. The rape occurs right before closing when five
bikers rape a young woman while holding Mitchell at bay. After the rape, Mitchell
is distraught over his decision of not making a stronger attempt to help the girl.
Police, family and friends try to comfort Mitchell by telling him he made the right
decision. However, he continues to feel guilt and self doubt over whether or not he
could have done more in order to prevent the rape from occurring.
The central idea is that man is responsible for defining his own sense of honor. A

I think I could have stopped it. ; An example of his actions comes after the bikers
had left the rape scene, Then he picked up her sneakers from the floor and placed
them beside her and squatted near her face?. ; An example of his thoughts comes
after the bikers leave, He wanted to speak to her and touch her, hold a hand or press
her brow, but he could not. ;
A secondary character is Joyce. She is flat and static. She is flat because she is a
minor character and lacks complexity. She is static because her character does not
change during the course of the story.
Dubus uses two methods of indirect characterization in describing Joyce; he uses
words and actions. An example of her words comes when she is trying to comfort
Mitchell: You ll be a good witness. ; An example of her actions comes after Mitchell
has told her of the tragedy, ?she kneeled beside him and massaged his shoulders and
rubbed his temples and pressed her hands on his forehead. ;
The central conflict in the story is an internal one. Mitchell has a conflict between his
inaction versus his definition of honor. The conflict represents his struggle
concerning the guilt he feels over not attempting to stop the rape, even though his
friends and family assure him that he made the right decision. The conflict is
unresolved.
The point of view of The Curse ; is limited omniscient. An example of this comes
when Mitchell thinks to himself: ?he wanted from
Inequality In The Cherry Orchard
The erosion of social hierarchy causing a dawn of class issue and inequality
amongst different classes of society has played a huge role in Chekhov s The
Cherry Orchard. The abolition of Russian serfdom has caused Russian society into a
time of flux and confusion. Due to this, it gave the ambitious serfs who were
previously pitted in the lower class, a chance to become wealthy and move up in
social class. Thus, this allowed for the rise of ambitious and talented in trade and
industry, allowing them to gain primary roles in this new capitalist society.
Causing a flux of power in Russian society as result of the erosion of power and this
is mirrored in Chekhov s The Cherry Orchard. This rise in power for one allows for

The liberation allows for the opportunistic middle class who prioritizes these new
values and thus, are on the precursor of success, evoking change, taking fate into
their own hands and controlling the fate of those around them. Although Trofimov
does not take action to make changes, he is able to illustrate and set the grounds
and rules of success and the how to adapt in this time of flux and change. Trofimov
states that Mankind marches forward, perfecting its strength. Everything that is
attainable for us now will one day be near and clear, but we must work we must
help with will all our force those we seek for truth. At present only a few men work
in Russia. The vast majority of the educated people that I know seek after nothing,
do nothing and are as incapable of work. Trofimov is talking about the aristocrats
who are educated but do things with it and are born into power but do nothing with
that power. Thus, explaining one of the of pillars of capitalism which is practicality,
and thus, Trofimov suggests life should not be stagnant and humans must be
pressured to work harder and be motivated to succeed. Therefore, mirroring the lack
of pressure on Russian society which leads to a fall in social and economic progress.

Observation: Last week, a ball dispenser was out for the children to play with. It was
on the top of the shelf and Child A was trying to reach for it. Do you want the ball
dispenser Child A ? , I said. I took it from the shelf and put it on the floor; Child A sat
down. I pressed the switch and the ball came out from the ball dispenser. He smiled
and I said, Oh! There it is! as the ball rolled on the floor. He stood up walked towards
the ball and picked it up. He walked back and put the ball into the ball dispenser. He
stared at it for two seconds and he looked at me and said ooh as he raised his hands
on his side. I said, Where is it, Child A ? Where did the ball go? . I held his hand
and guide it towards the switch, and pressed it. He laughed and I clapped my
hands when the ball came out from the dispenser, Yaay! You found it, Child A , I
said. He imitated me and clapped his hands as well. He put the ball in again and
stared at it; I kept on looking at him to see if he would press it. He kept on looking
at me and on the candy dispenser while saying, Ooh ohhh . Where is it, Child A ?
What do we have to do? , I said. He was still looking at me and on the ball dispenser.
I assisted his hands on the switch again and after three tries he did it by himself.
Earlier today, children were playing with the ball dispenser as well. They were
dancing whenever they hear the music it plays whenever the switch was pressed.

Freshman Year Value
As a girl who has gone through freshman year, I have learned what you should
really value in your freshman year. The relationships you make in freshman year,
the grades you make, and the way you walk with the Lord your freshman year are
so important for you to have a great freshman year. Relationships in your freshman
year can affect the way your year goes. Quality over quantity is so important. You
want friends that will stick with you through everything. Godly friends who will
support you, and be there for you are the best. Freshman year can be tough and things
can become stressful with school. I know I have broke down crying because school is
stressful, but your grades are important. Procrastinating may seem okay at the

SCARS On my left hand, just slightly above my wrist, runs a long scar that goes
over my BCG vaccine mark. Every time I look at it, I am reminded of how silly it
was for me to try and restrain Popeye, our dog, from attacking an innocent chicken
that was turned into one of my mom s favorite chicken stew delicacies not long
after the incident. Nonetheless, the ride against the Kei apple fence was worth it
as I believe no innocent chicken soul should be allowed to die in the jaws of an
angry dog. Just below the wrist lies another scar courtesy of Puscat, our runaway

Analysis Of John Muir s View On Nature

Essay 3
Before taking the class, I had mixed views on nature. I feel as if I did not
appreciate nature as much as I should have. My view on nature is that it is living
and that us as humans need to actually take care and preserve it to the best of our
abilities. Looking back at my past forum posts, I can see how much I have grown
over the weeks. There are several authors views that I have been exposed to and as
such I was able to decipher which views I agree with. It is interesting how each
author have different views I some ow relate to each of them. For example, John
Muir was a preservationist. He was a brave man; not afraid to tell what he was
feeling. He believed that the earth was not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

From analyzing the post for that week, there are several quotes towards the end of the
post that stuck with me. For example the quotes: Proportionate to nature (page 70)
and grander future (page 70). In this poem Song of the Redwood Tree , the author,
Whitman, employs specific devices to evaluate how valuable nature is, outside
man s use, all while putting emphasis on the fact that the instrumentalism inherit in
development on the notion of the promise of a grander future (page 70). The
author simultaneously explains that Redwoods and nature represent a valuable
history. Whitman also goes on to suggest that this gets appropriated into America s
history which then formulates the promise of an ideal American future. As I read
the poem it seems to me like there is a conflict of time between the nostalgic elegy
(a poem written to praise and express sorrow for someone who is dead) and a
Utopian idealism (modeled on or aiming for a state in which everything is perfect,
that is, idealistic). From previous Whitman poems that I have read throughout the
week as well as back in high school, I would say that this theme of American
Pastoralism is common within his writings. The main point of his text in my opinion
still revolves around trying to get an ideal America and less of an appreciation of
aesthetics. Nature s value exists implicitly, but not merely in its beauty, or maybe
Chrysler Team-Based Approach
Team Based Implementation
Chrysler started pushing power to the floor in the late 1980 s, resulting in greater
quality and efficiency, as they broke down the symbolic walls between engineering,
styling, and production departments and formed platform teams (Zatz, 2006). The
automotive industry relies on mass assembly line production which requires large
groups of employees to work in concert linking a series of interchangeable parts in
an effort to finalize assembly. Chrysler provides an excellent model to discuss a
team based approach as it relates to increased productivity and effective cost
reductions. Furthermore, the Daimler Benz and Chrysler merger in 1998 outlines
Chrysler s fall from grace as it struggled with cross cultural ... Show more content on

If good teamwork promotes productivity and quality improvement, then why are
productivity and quality levels sometimes lower in a team environment (Tudor,
1996)? The truth is more companies fail at achieving a team based approach than
succeed, which lends credibility to the significant steps that must be taken to
successfully implement and sustain a team based organization. If implemented
efficiently, it can afford an organization excellent coverage across all its business
operations.
In May 1998, when the impending merger of Daimler Benz and Chrysler was
announced, it heralded the biggest cross border industrial merger ever (Sarosi, 2016).
The Daimler Benz and Chrysler merger would systematically pair two of the largest
executive boards in the car manufacturing industry in an attempt to successfully
implement a team based approach as a necessary first step in their corporate merger.
Many of the management and employee issues that would arise during the merger
stemmed from diversity in communication styles and cross culture differences.
However, it makes the task of basic team based implementation and adherence to the
founding principles no less significant. The idea of less management, improving
relationships and increased productivity outline the foundation of a team based
approach. The Daimler Benz and Chrysler merger presented many challenges as both
teams worked to establish a balanced
Arthritis Personal Statement
During my junior year of high school, I had the opportunity to volunteer at the
Arthritis walk in Philadelphia. Volunteering at the event allowed me to gain deeper
intellectual engagement and also influenced my future career. At the event, I had the
opportunity to meet several people who suffered with Arthritis. When observing the
many effects that Arthritis had on people it widened my eyes to the lack of
healthcare in society. By the end of the day a lightbulb went off in my head and I
knew for sure that I wanted a career in medicine. I was certain that a career in health
services was for me because each person with arthritis warmed my heart and my
mind began wondering about endless ways to better their situation. Since I was a
young girl I was sensitive, caring, and always trying to find a way to help someone

obvious to me that I was passionate about working in the medical field I wasn t

the field of medicine I wanted to specialize in until last year. Last year I was

that causes the fluctuating of muscle weakness and fatigue. Muscle weakness makes
it difficult for patients to chew, talk, swallow, breathe, and control eye and facial

Some ways to treat Myasthenia Gravis are immunosuppressants, plasmapheresis, and
the removal of the thymus gland. Suffering from Myasthenia Gravis has made me

The Pros And Cons Of Mass Shootings
The First Amendment of the Constitution says that the Congress cannot make a
law that forces people to follow one religion or prohibit free speech. It also says that
people have the right to hold peaceful assemblies to make a change. This allows
people to have opinions and express them freely as long as they are peaceful.
The article connects to the First Amendment because the NFL players are protesting
what they believe in and using freedom of speech. If Congress made a law to throw
players in jail who kneeled during the national anthem it would violate the United
States Constitution. But, while the First Amendment protects them from being sent to
jail, they could still be fired from the NFL. By this point, however, it would be ...

This article talks about Venezuela s President NicolГЎs Maduro wanting to rewrite
the country s constitution, originally written in 1999. The exact changes that would
be made to the document are not known, but citizens and leaders of both Venezuela
and the United States, including President Trump, believe it will make the
government too much like Cuba s. Cuba has a communist government that controls
everything. There will be a vote that many people plan on boycotting, and there have
been many protests from all the people who do not want the President of Venezuela
to go through with the changes. These strikes are dangerous and have ended up
killing many people.
The Twenty Sixth Amendment of the Constitution reduces the voting age to eighteen
years old. It says that a citizen who is eighteen or older cannot be denied the ability
to vote by any state because of their age. Until this, in most states, citizens had to be
twenty one years old to vote.
The article and this amendment connect in certain ways. Many Venezuelans do not
like their President s plan to make changes to their country s constitution. If
something like this were to happen in the United States, and citizens were angry at
the idea, the people s voice would need to be heard. With the voting age at eighteen
years old, more people could vote against the plan to show the government just how
many citizens disagree with making changes to the

  • 2. The Importance Of Forensic Pathology Abstract Forensic pathologist play a vital role in the justice system in matters concerning questions of death. Forensic pathology has been considered a specialty in medicine. Although often not recognized forensic pathology is a growing specialty. Recent decades have brought a plethora of technological advances, popularized criminal cases, and even mainstream media programs that has pushed this specialty into the eyes of the public, boosting this professions esteem. • 3. Abortion In Hills Like White Elephants By Ernest Hemmingway In 2017, abortion is still a taboo subject. It is something society often avoids talking about due to the fear of creating a political uproar resulting from the opinion of one individual. Therefore, it should come as a surprise that one would find Hills Like White Elephants, a short story written by Ernest Hemmingway in 1927, that solely revolves around the idea of abortion. Within the decade or so prior to Hemmingway s story, abortion was something that was often not discussed or written about in papers unless the result of the abortion was the deathof the mother. When abortion was mentioned in the local newspapers, the writers did not express sorrow for the unborn child or anger towards the mother s actions; rather, they expressed pity for the women and hatred towards the doctoror midwife who attempted the procedure. After analyzing historical newspaper articles from the early 1900 s relating to abortion, one would find abortion is only mentioned when the women died as a result of the operation with little to no blame put upon the often young and poor mother, but rather on the individual who performed the procedure. While it is undeniable that the law enforcement during the early 1900 s was trying to prevent women from obtaining abortions, the women were often regarded as the victim in the papers after their deaths. On June 2nd, 1915, The Day Book, a newspaper based out of Chicago, reported the death of Anna Johnson after a faulty abortion. The article discusses a
  • 4. Winston Churchill s Life Of Reason Winston Churchill once said History will be kind to me, for I intend to write it myself. Churchill spent many decades in service to Great Britain as both a military officer and politician. He served in Parliament and as the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom for nearly a decade. Churchill illustrated the real meaning of this quote by becoming one of the most influential men in the history of the United Kingdom. Historians widely attribute Churchill with being the greatest statesman of the 20th century. He made numerous contributions to the people of his nation and the world. Churchill s point is that if one does not do anything great with his life, he will not be remembered. Not all men have the opportunity to become war heroes... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Military leaders often study their enemies past or the location in which they operate to better understand what they are up against and what will make them successful. LTC Hal Moore studied his enemy extensively before taking part in the Battle of Ia Drang in Viet Nam, 1965. This was the first major engagement of the war between regular U.S. and North Vietnamese forces. Had he not known his enemy s tactics, the soldiers of the 1st Battalion, 7th Cavalry would ve been crushed by the North Vietnamese troops. Today, events called staff rides have become commonplace in the United States military. Officers study different aspects of a particular battle and visit the site, each taking turns briefing their part so all may visualize and fully understand the entire
  • 5. Passionate About Women s Reproductive Rights Something I feel very passionate about women s reproductive rights. As a Christian I believe that it s not right to take any life for granted, but I think it s even more important is not imposing my ideals on someone else. I think every women should have control over her body. Only females to impose my ideals on other people. Females are gifted with the blessing of a child baring woum. Sometimes situations are unfortunate and terrible. I never will be in the shoes of the women next, nor will she be in mine. Why should I be the one to make the decision that will transform her life. I understand that an unborn child has a heart and is just as much of a person as I am, but I know that things happen for a reason. For example, my father had multiple... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Something terrible must have happened to the person before an abortion is even an acceptable thought. Then others say that even in cases of rape the woman must keep the child. It s true that the child is not at fault for the tragedy, but should someone who has never felt the pain and the helplessness of rape be allowed to make that choice for those forced to experience it? Even if the woman only wants an abortion due to the fact that she is not prepared then who am I to decide how she will be forced to spend her time, money, energy, and the next 18 years of her life on? Also, if abortions were banned completely then women would just receive an unregulated, unsafe, and illegal abortion. Those who think the that drugs are the most important things in life will find a way to get them, those who believe they need a gun because their life is threatened will find a gun, and those who think an abortion is the only thing that will let them go on with their life will find someone who is willing to perform the surgery. My second question was chosen because I feel that a group of people is making the decisions for the entire, and is enforcing their way of life on millions who have completely different mindsets. But if the country demands ignore that, then in what ways can they help prevent the pregnancy or help once the baby has already
  • 6. Summary Of Anne Frank The Diary Of A Young Girl How would you react if your family was loathed by both the government and neighboring citizens simply because of your religion? What if you were ordered to work at a German labor camp, and if you didn t, there would be serious consequences? In the diary, Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank, Anne and her family go through the same exact situation but they choose to go into hiding instead of fleeing the German occupied country. All of the characters, the setting, and the theme depicted on what would come in the near future. Anne and her family also go through unexpected daily situations that not only affect them as a whole, but stands as a place in Anne s heart. The characters were an extraordinarily significant aspect of how the story would turn out in the end. Anne, her family, the van Daan family, and Albert Dussel went into hiding at the Secret Annex. Anne was particularly attached to her father, Otto, because she felt he was always there for him. ВЁI model myself after Father, and there s no one in the world I love more. He doesn t realize that he treats Margot differently than he does me: Margot just happens to be the smartest, the kindest, the prettiest and the best. But I have a right to be taken seriously too, (10 30 1943). She explained that her father had great sympathy towards her, but she wanted to be perceived as an adult too. There were also residents she despised, like Mrs. van Daan. Anne and Mrs. van Daan thought very different from each
  • 7. Comparison Of The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe I read an imaginative book called The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis. In the book, there are four orphans. There names are Susan, Peter, Edmund and Lucy. They live in a mansion with a very kind homeowner. Lucy is the youngest and Edmund is the second youngest. Therefore, if Lucy says something, the others will most likely not believe it. Edmund is the second youngest. Edmund is very adventurous, and very kindhearted. That is how trouble comes to Edmund. He kindheartedly believes the White Witch is a good person. He accepts food and then that is how he is under the White Witch s control. Soon enough both Lucy and Edmund face problems. THAT IS NOT A STORY, Lucy shouts back It is real. Don t lie, says Peter. Lucy and Peter keep on fighting until they reached the decision to talk to the homeowner. Luckily, the homeowner settles everything. Lucy is an important role in story because she is the first to discover Narnia. She also created conflict with the other siblings and persuades them to go to Narnia. Narnia is where the setting of the story is. Edmund is the second youngest but he is much more adventurous then Peter and Susan. As he believes Lucy, he goes through the wardrobe with Lucy. He eventually gets lost. As he goes searching for Lucy, he meets the White Witch. He does not know that she is the White Witch; the most evil ruler of all. The White Witch came in her sled and with a nice look on her face. The White Witch offered Edmund ham. Edmund at that time was very hungry so he accepted. Again, not knowing that if you eat food from the White Witch you will become memorized and under the White Witch s commands. He ate the ham. The White Witch knows that Edmund is a Son of Adam so she asks Edmund if he has any other siblings. Edmund replies three. The White Witch is feeling great because all she needs to fulfill the prophecy is four Daughters of Eves / Son of Adam. After the White Witch heard all this information, she let Edmund go with a task. The task is to persuade all of Edmunds siblings to come to Narnia

  • 9. Tracing Changes in Pythagoras Speech in Ovid s... Tracing Changes in Pythagoras Speech in Ovid s Metamorphoses Change in Ovid, as well as in life, seems to be the only constant. Change is the subject of the Metamorphoses and Ovid s purpose in recounting myths is established from the very beginning: My intention is to tell of bodies changed to different forms... with a poem that runs from the world s beginning to our own days (1.1 4). From this foundation, Ovid launches into his stories, using metamorphosis more as a vehicle for telling his stories than as an actual subject matter. Although he retells religious myths, Ovid is not writing a religious manuscript. Rather, the product is a work of literature. Ovid is conscious that he is writing literature, not religion, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By contrast, Ovid s motives in narrating myths in the Metamorphoses are rarely ulterior. Most myths are free of the religious implications and the moralistic nuances that his Greek predecessors used as the backbone of their plays and poems. Instead, Ovid chooses to entertain his readership by his brilliant language and delight them with not only absorbing tales, but also with his masterful talent of weaving narratives together. Let us not be overzealous and label Ovid as an entertainer, for his themes and purpose change as quickly as the stories he narrates. Rather, it is safer to say that Ovid relieves his audience of any ulterior religious or moral meaning. Pythagoras, on the other hand, inveighs against his audience to refrain from meat eating, in some cases comparing them to cannibals like Thyestes and the Cyclops. Pythagoras neglects to give a reason for not eating meat, waiting almost a hundred lines to explain that the spirit comes and goes, is housed wherever it wills, shifts residence from beasts to men, from men to beasts (15.171 173). Our souls, Pythagoras claims, are deathless... when they leave our bodies, they find new dwelling places (15.162 164). Pythagoras asserts that the spirit, or soul, is the same in men and animals since man can be reincarnated into beast and vice versa; therefore, eating an animal is equivalent to cannibalism. A contemporary of Pythagoras, Xenophanes, mocked this belief in the

The genre itself is a subgenre of rock and roll, it came about when rock n roll musicians became dissatisfied with the classic rock and roll and created something new. Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, and Black Sabbath are prime examples of this genres group. Hard Rock came into being as a way to communicate thoughts and ideas regarding major social and political issues of the day. Such concerns included the assassination of leaders such as Martin Luther King Jr. and John F. Kennedy, the Vietnam War, and dissatisfaction with middle class values. This music is characterized by its heavy use of distorted electric guitars, bass, and drums. Assisted by lyrics inspired by the difficulties of the 1960s. The prime audience of this music is young Americans, from teens to college students who believe in the defiance of certain standards and those for peace in a trying world. The genre itself has helped many young Americans to stand up for their beliefs. Hard rock has affected many aspects of daily life; including fashion, attitudes, and language. • 11. The Death Of Religion During The Late Victorian Era Conclusion In sum, this study suggests that the death of religion during the late Victorian era plays a huge role in failing of both the married and the unmarried relationships. They seem to do so by raising new attitudes and new behaviours, especially among the working class who suffer a lot since they lack several things. The faith and the familylife among these new relationships are nearly destroyed by society. Morover, religious impact is linked to the behaviours of both married and unmarried relationships. Hardy is transmitting the message that the death of religion causes the failure of married relationships that lack everything except the contract, the destruction of unmarried relationship even when it is based on love, and the unexpected destinies of the fruit of each of these relationships. Thus, Religion is essential to every human being. Not only does it serve as a foundation for one to form his/her own set of values. Internal religious conflict can be seen in the form of one s personal struggle with his/her belief. However, personal struggles are mostly influenced by external factors, which cause disturbances to one s faith and loyalty to their beliefs. On the other hand, external conflict is the concept of which chaos occurs in society from clash of beliefs. Both conflicts between religions and irreligion can cause a huge negative impact in the relationships in particular and in society in
  • 12. The Consequences Of Marriage In Regency England Marriage was a self contradicted idea in Regency England. It secured a woman s financial security and social importance, but at the same time, her legal and financial rights went straight from her father to her husband (Ray 131). A highly sought after marriage was one that had both equal finances and social class (Lathan). The real question is: How did people in Regency England get married, and what all went into the process? The four main steps to getting married in Regency England are coming out, courting, engagement, and getting married. The first step in the marriagemarket is when the young lady has officially had her coming out moment. In majority scenarios, a younger sister could not come out until her older ones were either engaged or already married. However, what determined whether or not a young lady was ready to come out was maturity. A young lady had to have a proper education, skills, and mindset before she could be presented to society as an available bachelorette (Clark). Once the parents determined she was old enough to come out , she was allowed to attend balls, assemblies, and dinner parties (Ray 114). Attending these such gatherings required only the latest dresses and hairstyles, wore the most extravagant pieces of jewelry, and was paraded around by her father or mother. She had to be the center of attention (Clark). The girl still had to have a chaperone looking out for her and accompanying her. (Ray 115). A young lady could not approach any man

St. Augustine Confessions In his autobiography Confessions, Saint Augustine tells the story of the day he walked to give a speech of undeserved praise towards emperor, and on the way Augustine spots a drunken beggar asking for change that would ultimately help shape Augustine s views of true happiness and life fulfillment. Saint Augustine made the realization that just as the beggar perceived themselves fulfilled by alcohol, he himself tried to find to find fulfillment through others looking highly upon him and praising him. However, much like the pleasurethe beggar received from consuming alcohol, the pleasure Augustine found through others gratification was only temporal. Augustine theorized that the true fulfillment that he seeks can only come from living a life deemed worthy by God. This idea opposes the Grecian ideals found in Homer s The Odyssey . For the Greeks, a person strived to make a name for themselves for the sake of eternal glory. In essence, it was solely for self pride that the Grecian warrior performed heroic deeds. They attributed their skill to themselves, almost trying to become equal to the gods they worshiped. This encounter with the beggar helped transform Augustine s view, causing him to stray away from performing deed solely for Earthly recognition, but instead make an eternal name for himself in the light of God. In his opening remarks with the beggar, Augustine notes I was all hot for honours, money, marriage: and You made mock of my hotness (Augustine 101). In

The Benefits Of Sleeping On A Problem Essay The Benefits of Sleeping on a Problem Introduction If you re like most people, you have probably been told, when you re struggling with a problem or decision, that it s a good idea to sleep on it. It s something that people say so frequently that it has become something of a clichГ©. Like most clichГ©s, though, it turns out that there s some truth to it. In 1865, a German chemist named Friedrich August Kekule von Stradonitz solved a problem that had been puzzling scientists for decades. He published a paper identifying the structure of benzene as a ring of carbon atoms. Years later, when he was giving a talk about how he made his breakthrough discovery, he credited it to a dream he d had. In the dream, he saw an image of a serpent swallowing its own tail, something that is called ouroboros. The symbol dates back to early Indian, Egyptian and Greek mythology. The sight of the symbol revealed the ring like structure of benzene to him. Von Stradonitz is not alone. History is littered with similar examples. Human beings sometimes wake up with the solution to a complex problem, something they have been wrestling with, clear in their heads. Why does this happen? Is there scientific merit to the idea of sleeping on a problem? In this article, we will explore the notion that sleeping on a problem can help us solve it. By identifying these vulnerabilities, applying controls to address them, and designing a robust security plan the IT infrastructure at WD Enterprises will be more secure and provide better protection against these threats. This plan along with design and application of a code of ethics related to the IT profession, will ensure the staff is held accountable to the standards and objectives of the organization. • 29. Emancipative Values In Good Bye Lenin One example of an emancipative value at work in the film Good Bye Lenin! is seen in the young characters longing for individual autonomy. For example, Ariane is portrayed as a young woman who decides to change the course of her life immediately after the fall of communism. Instead of continuing her education in the field of economy, Ariane decides to stop attending school and takes a position at a fast food restaurant, which is likely caused by wanting to become financially independent. As the country s economic situation improved, many young people in Germany begun to place more emphasis on self expression, which also resulted from having the autonomy over one s choices. This can be observed when Ariane changes her style of dress by starting to wear more revealing clothes and heavier makeup. Another example of self expression at work is when Ariane and her boyfriend are shown to dress up and dance to Indian music. Another example of an emancipative value is observed when we see the helicopter flying away with the statue of Lenin. It can be assumed from this scene that the statue of Lenin was a popular landmark during the socialist Germany as is symbolized the power of the communist regime. In my opinion, this scene has a symbolic meaning as it represents the German society s challenging the old authority and its desire for political freedom and democracy. An example of a conservative value in the film can be observed in the behavior of one of Alex s older neighbors. Throughout the movie, he is shown to voice his negative opinions regarding the new political system and complaining about the massive loss of jobs that the working class experienced as a result of the fall of communism. In the communistic society, most members are assigned some sort of a job or a role, and therefore it is difficult for the old neighbor to accept that now so many lost their employment. Another conservative value at work in the film can also be observed in Alex s behavior. Although the character is shown to enjoy and even fight for the new political freedom, as the movie unfolds, it becomes clear that in his actions to protect his mother. Alex is also attempting to recreate an old sentiment and create a reality that he wishes

According to Sapienza and Ruddy (2013), 90% of vocal fold paralysis that occurs is unilateral and caused by damage to the peripheral nervous system (p. 189). Vocal fold paralysis is typically considered a symptom of a disease or neurologic disruption. In one study, it was found that vocal fold paralysis was caused by surgical trauma, tumors or neoplasms, unknown or idiopathic factors, trauma, central nervous system dysfunction, radiation, inflammatory, cardiovascular, and other causes (Chen, Jen, Wang, Lee, Lin, 2007). Symptoms of unilateral vocal fold paralysis may include: aphonia, abnormal vocal quality (breathy, hoarse, and/or strained), and dysphagia. Onset of UVFP may be life altering as the individual has to find compensatory strategies for voicing or even alternative methods of communication. The individual is also left susceptible to aspiration due to the lack of airway protection. These factors make it critical to diagnose the impairment so as to provide the appropriate treatment. DIAGNOSIS Vocal fold paralysis is diagnosed by an otolaryngologist through the use of endoscopy, laryngostroboscopy, and laryngeal electromyography. Two types of endoscopes may be used to visualize the vocal folds. One type is a rigid endoscope that is placed in the back of the oral cavity with a camera pointing down

The assertion made here, dismisses the psychological harm brought about by a negative body image. However, knowing what the ultimate outcome of the struggle was, one may be able to look back into history and offer key reasons as to why Octavian was able to defeat Antony. Ultimately, I believe there was not one key reason for Octavian victory. It was a combination of Octavian s proximity to Rome, his favor with the citizens, and the elimination of his opposition at home that all combined to allow his eventual triumph. Overlooking some smaller details, it is first important to know that after Julius Ceasar s assassination that Octavian was named his heir and returned to Italy to claim this inheritance. From here, he gathered military power and allowed the senate to use him, in order to advance his political position, and he was sent to fight against a rebellious Antony. At this point, Octavian did not try to decimate Antony s forces, instead he proposed and ultimately formed the second triumvirate with Antony and Lepidus as the other heads of the state (Wells 13). From here, the Roman territories were divided into areas of governorship with Antony taking the east, Octavian the west, and Lepidus had the Africa territories (Wells 17). In this poem Song of the Redwood Tree , the author, Whitman, employs specific devices to evaluate how valuable nature is, outside man s use, all while putting emphasis on the fact that the instrumentalism inherit in development on the notion of the promise of a grander future (page 70). The author simultaneously explains that Redwoods and nature represent a valuable history. Whitman also goes on to suggest that this gets appropriated into America s history which then formulates the promise of an ideal American future. As I read the poem it seems to me like there is a conflict of time between the nostalgic elegy (a poem written to praise and express sorrow for someone who is dead) and a Utopian idealism (modeled on or aiming for a state in which everything is perfect, that is, idealistic). From previous Whitman poems that I have read throughout the week as well as back in high school, I would say that this theme of American Pastoralism is common within his writings. The main point of his text in my opinion still revolves around trying to get an ideal America and less of an appreciation of aesthetics. Nature s value exists implicitly, but not merely in its beauty, or maybe
  • 53. Chrysler Team-Based Approach Team Based Implementation Chrysler started pushing power to the floor in the late 1980 s, resulting in greater quality and efficiency, as they broke down the symbolic walls between engineering, styling, and production departments and formed platform teams (Zatz, 2006). The automotive industry relies on mass assembly line production which requires large groups of employees to work in concert linking a series of interchangeable parts in an effort to finalize assembly. Chrysler provides an excellent model to discuss a team based approach as it relates to increased productivity and effective cost reductions. Furthermore, the Daimler Benz and Chrysler merger in 1998 outlines Chrysler s fall from grace as it struggled with cross cultural ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If good teamwork promotes productivity and quality improvement, then why are productivity and quality levels sometimes lower in a team environment (Tudor, 1996)? The truth is more companies fail at achieving a team based approach than succeed, which lends credibility to the significant steps that must be taken to successfully implement and sustain a team based organization. If implemented efficiently, it can afford an organization excellent coverage across all its business operations. In May 1998, when the impending merger of Daimler Benz and Chrysler was announced, it heralded the biggest cross border industrial merger ever (Sarosi, 2016). The Daimler Benz and Chrysler merger would systematically pair two of the largest executive boards in the car manufacturing industry in an attempt to successfully implement a team based approach as a necessary first step in their corporate merger. Many of the management and employee issues that would arise during the merger stemmed from diversity in communication styles and cross culture differences. However, it makes the task of basic team based implementation and adherence to the founding principles no less significant. The idea of less management, improving relationships and increased productivity outline the foundation of a team based approach. The Daimler Benz and Chrysler merger presented many challenges as both teams worked to establish a balanced
  • 54. Arthritis Personal Statement During my junior year of high school, I had the opportunity to volunteer at the Arthritis walk in Philadelphia. Volunteering at the event allowed me to gain deeper intellectual engagement and also influenced my future career. At the event, I had the opportunity to meet several people who suffered with Arthritis. When observing the many effects that Arthritis had on people it widened my eyes to the lack of healthcare in society. By the end of the day a lightbulb went off in my head and I knew for sure that I wanted a career in medicine. I was certain that a career in health services was for me because each person with arthritis warmed my heart and my mind began wondering about endless ways to better their situation. Since I was a young girl I was sensitive, caring, and always trying to find a way to help someone out of a bad situation. There are... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Careers in the medical field will allow me to experience a life I never had, but always dreamed of. I will finally be able to support my family financially without struggling and I will be able to say I am the first doctor in my family. That alone is enough to prove to myself that I actually made it. While the arthritis walk made it obvious to me that I was passionate about working in the medical field I wasn t really sure about the field of medicine I wanted to specialize in. I was unsure about the field of medicine I wanted to specialize in until last year. Last year I was diagnosed with Myasthenia Gravis, which is an autoimmune neuromuscular disease that causes the fluctuating of muscle weakness and fatigue. Muscle weakness makes it difficult for patients to chew, talk, swallow, breathe, and control eye and facial movements. As of now, there is not a cure for this disease, but there are treatments. Some ways to treat Myasthenia Gravis are immunosuppressants, plasmapheresis, and the removal of the thymus gland. Suffering from Myasthenia Gravis has made me realize that after
  • 55. The Pros And Cons Of Mass Shootings The First Amendment of the Constitution says that the Congress cannot make a law that forces people to follow one religion or prohibit free speech. It also says that people have the right to hold peaceful assemblies to make a change. This allows people to have opinions and express them freely as long as they are peaceful. The article connects to the First Amendment because the NFL players are protesting what they believe in and using freedom of speech. If Congress made a law to throw players in jail who kneeled during the national anthem it would violate the United States Constitution. But, while the First Amendment protects them from being sent to jail, they could still be fired from the NFL. By this point, however, it would be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This article talks about Venezuela s President NicolГЎs Maduro wanting to rewrite the country s constitution, originally written in 1999. The exact changes that would be made to the document are not known, but citizens and leaders of both Venezuela and the United States, including President Trump, believe it will make the government too much like Cuba s. Cuba has a communist government that controls everything. There will be a vote that many people plan on boycotting, and there have been many protests from all the people who do not want the President of Venezuela to go through with the changes. These strikes are dangerous and have ended up killing many people. The Twenty Sixth Amendment of the Constitution reduces the voting age to eighteen years old. It says that a citizen who is eighteen or older cannot be denied the ability to vote by any state because of their age. Until this, in most states, citizens had to be twenty one years old to vote. The article and this amendment connect in certain ways. Many Venezuelans do not like their President s plan to make changes to their country s constitution. If something like this were to happen in the United States, and citizens were angry at the idea, the people s voice would need to be heard. With the voting age at eighteen years old, more people could vote against the plan to show the government just how many citizens disagree with making changes to the
