Axelrad s Collage
The exhibit Collage contains works by Merle Axelrad which can be located in downtown Sacramento
ARTHOUSE Gallery and Studios. The artist s fabric collages are in several locations as a private
collection, they are also placed in a corporate and civic area (ARTHOUSE), she worked in sculpture
and sewn collages, however in this exhibit she is great for the fabric work. Axelrad collages are
influenced by the real nature and landscape she encounters.Three pieces of her fabric work: River 2,
River 3 and Sierra Water reflect her style as modern and elaborated, making her unique from other
artists. Each individual collages she made has been carefully arranged, layered, pinned and sewn
together (Axelrad) in order to depict the image of nature ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One would think why Kaiser would have chosen this particular work that shows no imagery relating
to health. It is understandable if one observe this piece carefully and closely, River 2 similar to Sierra
River and River 3 focus on the theme of nature, Earth and water. However, in this piece, it shows
more than just life, feminine fertility, and infertility. One could see that there is only a little water
movement caused by ripples which allow one to capture the meaning of this River such as steadiness
and calmness. The stones have an appearance of flatness and smooth detail similar to limestone and
iceberg because of its shape and pigment of white like snow, what also make it similar to iceberg is the
stones appears as if it is floating on the water. With no dark contour to given to the stone, there is no
roundness giving these rocks a wide appearance. However, the river is lightened by the sunlight
revealing the beauty within the water such as the tainted green in the water which reminds one about
nature. Kaiser hospital has chosen this work of Axelrad because it reveals not only calm and hope but
it reveals peace, comfort and hope (Scott Kemmis) such as the whiteness and pure fabric color for the
stones in the work. The river represents calm and peace where the doctor would give to their patient
and the stones give strength and comfort toward their patience. This meaning also related to mother
love such as comfort for their young who also give similar need just like a doctor giving to

Gilgamesh Hero
A Look at the Hero Gilgamesh In all of the story of Gilgamesh, he is portrayed as a somewhat perfect
being. Being able to boast of his physical and godlike prowess among his subjects. However, do these
two qualities make him that much more of a hero than other ancient hero s tales? Or even a hero at all?
Gilgamesh s tales may have qualities that make him like a hero, yet compared to other definitions of a
hero he may not stand up to the test of those who, like him, have had their stories told for all ages. As
we examine Gilgamesh s story we will see that in physical, personal characteristics, and
accomplishments, he might be more of a hero than most of us think he is.
First we will examine what the story of Gilgamesh provides us to show ... Show more content on

This may be the reason why in this modern era we may not see him as the hero that the ancients did.
When we think of the modern hero we think of someone who is courageous, who fights evil for truth
and justice. In the ancient times we see that your accomplishments where what made you a legendary
hero not just what you fought for. We can see this especially in the first tablet of Gilgamesh. From the
first few lines of the text we see that his accomplishments are praised rather than his ethics. The book
says Exploring the furthest reaches of the Earth ... Reaching in his might Utanapishtim the Distant
one, Restorer of holy places (Foster, tablet I). Just by these few lines of the book we can see that one
was judged by their actions and accomplishments not the way they carried themselves. In the modern
age we like to see a hero who both has great accomplishments as well as a good moral stature. Which
is why we may not see Gilgamesh as one of our true heroes.
Gilgamesh as a whole is one of ancient time s classic heroes. He has all the qualities of the classic
Roman and Greek heroes. His many accomplishments do hold some credit as being of heroic value,
and even in our own time he does hold some heroic qualities. Heroes over time have had many
qualities and held many beliefs, but Gilgamesh has stood the test of time and has continued to be one
of the ancient world s oldest

Uplifting Book Of Psalms
I would have to say that there are several divisions of Psalms that I like to read and quote. To me, the
Book of Psalms is an uplifting book for me. A few that I enjoy are Psalms 23:1 6; 24:1 10; 27:1 3;
100:1 5 (Bible, KJV). My favorite is Psalms Division 46:1 11. This to me, this lets me know that God
is fighting on my behalf. He s going to intercede between me and the problem if I seek Him.
No matter what the adversity may be, God wants you to know that He is sufficient, that He is enough,
and that He can handle it if we allow Him too. Many times as Christians, we ask God to handle a
problem or situation for us, but yet we don t allow Him to fully have control of that situation. All He is
wanting us to acknowledge is that He

Analysis Of Country Lovers By Nadine Gordiminer
Themes Corresponding Works (Draft)
Ja Anna Godine
ENG 125 Introduction to Literature
Instructor Kurt Mueller
2 October 2014
Comparing Racism and Ethnicity in two literature works, Country Lovers and What it s like to be a
Black Girl we can trace racism from the very first stanza of the poem What it s like to be a Black Girl
and the first paragraph of Country Lovers. In both cases the protagonists are black females who seem
to be facing racial discrimination.
Most societies have small elements of racial discrimination that can be condoned. In fact some
societies are used to racial discrimination. Racial discrimination is more pronounced in minority
communities where it is a recurrent experience. Many countries and states have enacted laws that
prohibit racism in its entirety, but the success of such laws depends on individuals who can either heed
from practicing it or just decide to be hard on others. The short story, Country Lovers written by
Nadine Gordiminer in 1975 best represents racial discrimination during colonial period. The story
revolves around two main characters Thebedi and Paulus. Paulus Eysendyck was a son to a white
settler while Thebedi was a daughter to a Laborer that used to work in Paulus father s farm. Paulus,
being the son of the rich white father had the freedom to play and interact with all other kids that lived
in the farm. But amongst many kids that he encountered, he developed keen interest in Thebedi. A

Paleolithic Mating System
The study, reported in the journal Science, examined genetic information from the remains of
anatomically modern humans who lived during the Upper Palaeolithic, a period when modern humans
from Africa first colonised western Eurasia. The symbolism, complexity and time invested in the
objects and jewellery found buried with the remains also suggests that it is possible that they
developed rules, ceremonies and rituals to accompany the exchange of mates between groups, which
perhaps foreshadowed modern marriage ceremonies, and may have been similar to those still practised
by hunter gatherer communities in parts of the world today. The study s authors also hint that the early
development of more complex mating systems may at least partly explain

Walter Lee In A Raisin In The Sun
In Lorraine Hansberry s A Raisin In The Sun, Walter Lee Younger is a character who makes misguided
decisions and drowns his sorrows and mistakes in alcohol. In the midst of all of this, Walter s only
goal is to gain respect for himself and his family. The poem Sympathy by Paul Laurence Dunbar
shows Walter s yearning to fulfill his purpose by setting his family free from the cage of financial
restrictions. Walter is tired of not being able to properly provide for his family and take on the role of
man of the house. He wants the best for his family, and especially for his son Travis. In his current
state though, all he can give to his family are stories about how rich white people live (Hansberry,
34),. This frustrates him as he is over thirty, yet has a boy who sleeps in the living room (Hansberry,
34), and can barely provide for his family. This is similar to the first stanza of Sympathy , where the
caged bird feels all the beauty of freedom but can never fully experience it. Walter, like the bird is
trapped and is tauntingly reminded of this daily. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Walter has so much faith in the success of the investment that before the deal is even made, he says
the liquor store investment will be the business transaction that s going to change our lives (Hansberry,

as it is Walter s attempt to free himself from his cage of financial restrictions. This echoes the bird s
plea to be freed from its cage. Walter rests all his faith on the deal pulling through, and if anything
goes wrong Walter will lose any respect he has managed to gain with his family. His life would be

Comparing Agamemnon s Quarrel, Oath, And Promise
The things that interested me the most in the book 1 titled, Quarrel, Oath, and Promise is when
Agamemnon, defends the girl, he loves. For example, yes, if you like, I rate her higher than
klytaimnestra, my own wife! She loses nothing by comparison in beauty or womanhood, in mind or
skill (9). He says how much he loves her by saying their is no comparison that she loses, she is smart
and pretty, in mind and smart by abilities. The other interesting part is when Agamemnon, prepares
others for the war, and reveals his gift. You must prepare, however, a prize of honor for me, and at
once, that I may not be left without my portion I, of all Argives (9). He says when the girls, the other
girls are just regular, his love looks elsewhere, she is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first would be hold onto the this message against forgetfulness in tides of the day when blissful
sleep is gone (30). I think the fascinating point from the starting of this story is how you can send
messages or communicate through dreams and how Akhaians thought to send message to be prepared
for the war with the help of dreams to Agamemnon. The troops were turning out now, thick as bees
that issue from some crevice in a rock face, endlessly pouring forth, to make a cluster and swarm or
blooms of summer here and there, glinting and droning, busy in bright air. I like how the technique
imagery has been used in the quote, to show how the situation is and to give us a detail of what s
going on by using good comparisons and symbolism. After the snake had gorged upon them all, the
god who sent him, turned him into an omen; turned him to stone. The last interesting part in book 2
and the Iliad is the transformation that takes places. The snake is turned into an omen here, which is
kind of like a real life fantasy. The conclusion is the war not only included the fights, but also a hint of
romance, fantasy, techniques of imagery, and detailed writing that I found

Causes and Consequences of Human Trafficking in Haiti Essay
Throughout the globe, whether a country is highly developed or unstable, all countries must face the
issue of humanitarian crisis. These misfortunes can be triggered by human action or can occur
involuntarily. Ranging from natural disasters, to diseases, to internal or external conflict, each has
been proven to be detrimental to the stability of the society. Haiti has recently gotten attention for
being simultaneously affected by multiple crises; each of which helps to place Haiti in a trap which
they cannot lift themselves out of without foreign intervention and aid. Organizations such as the
Jesuit Universities Humanitarian Action Network (JUHAN), a collaboration between Jesuit
universities, are in place hoping to promote awareness ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Officials in Haiti estimate that an overwhelming 90,000 to 120,000 children are currently forced into
this practice, reflecting greatly on the lack of economic stability and growth within the country (2005
Trafficking in Persons Report). When thinking of sexual exploitation, forced prostitution and rape are
often the first to come to mind; however, women of Haiti have been noted to consciously choose to
exploit themselves. Furthermore, women will trade sex for a goods, shelter, or even security, in turn
causing sex to be classified as an income generating strategy (Kempadoo, 84). According to a statistic
pulled in 1984, 30 percent of the prostitutes from Haiti or from the Dominican Republic were between
fifteen and twenty years old (Benoit, 39). Consequently, the numbers of individuals affected by
trafficking in Haiti is evident of the presence and nature of crisis occurring.
Haiti is extremely susceptible to the humanitarian crisis of human trafficking due to their unstable
government, lack of law enforcement, and static economy. Although Jean Bertrand Aristide held the
position of president, the society still suffered from brutal acts of violence. Due to the fear of being
overthrown, the military acted in this way to divest the Haitian people of their freedoms (Americas
Watch, 1). However, subsequent to Aristide s resignation in early 2004, Haiti continued to struggle to
gain control

A Mission Statement For A Strategic Planning
In formulating a process for undertaking a strategic plan for, say the veterinary services organization
mentioned in my course paper and presentation, a first step would be formulating at least a mission
statement for the organization. Since the veterinary clinic in question had not formalized a mission
statement its mission was perhaps nebulous or up for debate. Berman suggests that the original
mission statement might be revisited during the design phase (please see the following below),
however, if none is in place prior to the start of strategic planning then perhaps an attempt to develop
one at the start of the strategic planning process is advisable, even if it were to be revisited and
modified during the process. As the Chinese proverb states, 如果你不知道你要去哪裡,任何道路會
帶你去那裡。 * The mission statement allows the organization to develop specific goals and
programs and serve a purpose in the strategic planning process.
Berman states in Chapter 4, the purpose of strategic planning is change, and is therefore a process.
This process, he continues, is typically made up of four phases. These four phases are preplanning,
research, design and implementation. This process helps the organization to align priorities to
changing conditions and opportunities. In the case of the veterinary services organization, it was
poised for change and that change would be best pursued using a strategic planning process. The clinic
was ready for new goals and strategies, and needed to create a shared

Biotechnology Controversy
Biotechnology is a broad term. Basically, it is the tools and techniques [opening] new research
avenues for discovering how healthy bodies work and what goes wrong when problems arise (Siedler
para. 1). It covers controversial technology and procedure, like genetic engineering and gene therapy.
It is controversial because it can affect everyone(Jeremy para. 16). As a consequence, the development
of biotechnology has been a slow, quiet progress (Kirsner para. 3) because society may or may not
recognize the repercussion of it. However, scientist like Smith a previous chief for the Cambridge
biotech company, Genzyme continues to develop biotechnology(para. 1). Because biotechnology can

Case Study Of Porter s Diamond
Topic: Does Porter s Diamond concept convincingly explain the achievements of major national
business systems, or are their weaknesses, theoretically and empirically, in his arguments?
There exist classical theories of international trade which discuss the reasons why particular industries
and particular economies are more competitive than the rest. In his book The Competitive Advantage
of Nations, Michael E Porter argued or analyzed the broad factors which determined the
competitiveness of certain economies and industries. This model is based on four nation s specific
factors and two external variables. The four cornerstones of the diamond model are the factor

It is interesting to note that nestles 95% percent of its revenue is earned outside its home based of
Switzerland.
Rugman s analysis resulted in the double diamond being creative which is a better tool to analyze the
international competitiveness. Rugman s criticism of Porters diamond appears have to be successful as
Porter himself later on admitted that firms can have multiple home bases. For instance, Mexico s
economic future is closely linked to its neighbor the United States of America and also through North
America. Hence the double diamond proposed by Rugman proves to be more effective in determining
Mexico s success/ resurgence in various economic sectors.
One of the four cornerstones of the Porters diamond is the importance of rivalry. In the year 1993
Lazonick argued that rivalry alone cannot cause firms to innovate. He was of the opinion that when
the firms face too much pressure from competitors, it may cause the companies to adapt and imitate
instead of innovation. For instance when US firms faced challenges from foreign competitor s
cooperation rather than rivalry became necessary to prevent loss of market share to foreign

The term has been written by Simon Northridge. what is bycatch? It is the unfortunate event of marine
mammals getting caught and killed during fishing.most of the time, these mammals deaths were
completely unintentional by the fishermen but it regularly happens during fishing operations. Bycatch
is therefore incidental catches. No matter the fishing gear, they have all catched at least once,
unwanted marine mammals especially in greatly fished areas. Species like whales, porpoises and
others find their way into these gears but are unable to get out of them. A staggering 300, 000 marine

The issue with delphinids contrary to dolphins, once they are caught in purse seine nets with

as in the 1950 s, it only started getting monitored in the 1970 s. for the many years when it was
happening, the annual mortalities were around 200 500, 000. Even with the new monitoring, many
dolphins are continuously being killed through this fishing technique. Thanks to dolphin safe labels
and movement, there has been great improvement on this practice. This improvement has led to a
reduction of dolphin mortalities to less than 1500 per year in 2004. Unfortunately, even with this
progress, dolphins and the other marine mammals affected are struggling to repopulate because of
how affected the species were from all the previous years but also since large scale captures are still
going on.
The discovery of the effect of the ETP tuna fishery on dolphins has opened the door to a realization
that other fisheries are killing several other marine mammals. The baji Lipotes vexillifer is now
declared extinct as well as the vaquita Phocoena sinus. The Baji is a Chinese river dolphin and its
extinction is caused by fishing lines; it is a long line of sharp hooks used for other fish but since it is

Importance Of Integrity In The Military
This I Believe This I believe is a very vague question in terms of what I believe. I have a multiplex of
beliefs, yet one of my cardinal beliefs is integrity. Integrity is knowing that you re honest and fair,
which is what I live by. It s a level of respect you give which results in a positive outcome on your
character as a human being. It s a trait not everyone has fortitude to achieve and not one of those traits
you re born with, it s one of those traits you develop over the span of your life as you attain
understanding. When I initial set foot in the military I had no concept of what integrity was or what it
denoted. As I grew in the military and worked my way up the ranks integrity developed in me and
transcended my life and the way I reasoned. It impacted the way I observed the word and the military

Athletic Coach or Scout Coaches teach amateur and professional athletes the skills they need to

Coaches typically do the following:
Plan, organize, and conduct practice sessions

high school coaches need to meet these state requirements in order to become a coach, certification
may not be required for coaching and sports instructor jobs in private schools. Some schools may

over the past year, while teacher salaries increased by only 2.3 percent (Study 9). As a result, the value
of the US dollar has decreased, meaning that it takes more money to purchase products, while teachers
salaries have not increased enough to compensate for this higher cost of living. Additionally, in some
states, the average base salary of teachers simply increased less than it did in previous years (The
Increase). Also, teaching is one of the lowest paying professions in America, as shown by recent
studies. The AFT, which uses data collected by the National Association of Colleges and Employers,
maintains that teachers, at an average yearly salary of $44,367, lag behind accountants at $54,981,
engineers at $96,238 and computer program analysts at $74,534. If additional summer pay were added
to the computations, teachers would still earn just $49,438 (Silverman 16). This is unacceptable, and
these trends showcase that America is moving in the wrong direction regarding this issue. Finally,
teachers salaries are simply not reflective of their perceived value. Teachers are people

Self injury is an major issue in our society and schools need to do more to help teens handle mental
issue. Self injury is a complicated and often misunderstood phenomenon that is a growing problem in
teenagers and adolescents (plante 1). Self injury is also an dangerous act that can lead to a worst
situation. Self harm is not necessarily a serious mental illness, but a behavior that indicates a lack of
coping skills. There are several illnesses that are associated with it such as: borderline personality
disorder, depression, eating disorders, anxiety or posttraumatic distress disorder. In recent years, Self

How Does Alvarez Show Courage In The Time Of The Butterflies
In the Time of the Butterflies Essay A lot of courage is needed to revolt against a dictator and risk one
s life, and possibly other s lives for a country. In the novel, In the Time of the Butterflies, by Julia
Alvarez, Minerva Mirabal (one of 4 sisters in the story) shows a lot of courage by standing up against
her country s leader, Rafael Trujillo, and for what is right, risking her and her family s lives. She
performs in front of him, while knowing his secret, that he is a horrible dictator that abuses his power,
she slaps him at a party and them leaves, which is illegal, and she protects her sisters with her life. It
takes courage, guts, and bravery, to fight for what you believe in, and the events in this story show
these traits. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She then has the daringness to break away (Alvarez 101) and leave the dance. No one is supposed to
leave a gathering before El Jefe, thus she is risking her and he family s lives. By this point in the book,
she begins to build the strength and willingness to do the right thing in any situation, and is building
up her strength and bravery as we move along in the novel. In the final chapter of the novel, Minerva
shows and immense amount of courage. She vows to do all she can to protect the Mirabal sisters. She
will do all she can to keep them alive... ... (do) you think I ll let anything happen to the butterflies?
They ll have to kill me first. (Alvarez 269). Her heroism and willingness to protect her sisters, over
protecting just herself, comes out in this chapter. And though she cannot save her sisters, she stayed
with them, protecting them to the very end. The last we hear of them, ..we started up the first
mountain... (Alvarez 297) she is with her sisters. At the end of the story, we are not fully sure what
happened. We do know that Minerva said they have to kill (her) first, and they did, but she protected
them all the way to the end, showing tremendous bravery. Throughout the novel, Minerva Mirabal
shows many instances of tremendous courage. She stands up to her country s leader, Rafael Trujillo,
on numerous occasions. She performs in front of him while knowing his secrets, she slaps him and

The Universality of the Marginalize Other through Irish Film
Term Paper: The Universality of the Marginalized Other Through Irish Film Film has the unique
ability to be both deeply personal and yet universal in nature. While national cinemas have the ability
to define a country s national identity and presence in the world, they also have the ability to reach
global audiences with universal themes that reverberate through the global consciousness and tell the
stories of many around the world. Though themes of national identity and marginalized populations
can seem to be specific to their national cultures and countries, the greater more universal themes of
inequality and social strife can be found just below the surface, lending theses films a universal
appeal. In Irish film the Travelling community has often taken center stage as both the subject of
romantic notions of national identity as well as a symbol of contemporary social and economic
policies and increased globalization of modern Ireland. When dealing with the Irish Travelling
community as a symbol, the themes, issues, and concerns facing this population can become
globalized and can come to represent larger issues facing global marginalized communities all over
the world. This Universalist approach can be applied when dealing with the Irish films, Into the West
(1993) and Pavee Lackeen (2005), as well as the British film Fish Tank (2009). Not only is the
Travelling community present in each film, but also their presence can be seen as symbolizing

Truth
Does the Truth Really Matter? There are plenty of news articles and gossip floating around all over the

information that is being placed throughout the internet and our televisions for viewers to see. We
begin to think it s nothing and just shrug it off, but what we do not realize is that fake news is taking

It is the same in the science world. Let s say that there is a scientific study being conducted about how
consuming a large amount of pop tarts could lead to Cancer. If you are the leader of this study, you
would assume that the results your peers give you are 100% true. Falsifying information/ results for
something as important as this study could lead to horrendous problems. It is very wrong to lie about
information, especially if it puts a person s life at risk. But, there are some cases where lying could
help in a situation, or protect someone.
Lying in some instances, is not always terrible. There are many ways a little white lie is acceptable
every now and then. Your friend asks you if this dress looks cute on her, and you say ooo yes girl it
looks great . But, you think it does not look that tremendous on her. You said that to protect her
feelings. That is one example of how telling a white lie is not that gruesome. People also tell white lies
for joyous occasions too, like a surprise party. Lying can also get an individual out of a situation. For
example, someone you particularly do not like approaches and asks for your phone number. You could
say that you do not have a phone. In that case it wouldn t really harm anyone.
If you genuinely think about it, lying does more harm than good. We need to stop spreading lies and
hate. Lying is morally and ethically wrong, and it does not get anyone anywhere in life. Have you ever

The Problems Of Urban Rot
For many years, Detroit has been described as the Come Back City . A presumption will be made that
the significant reasons for urban rot are, among potential others are evolving demographics,
deindustrialization, political disappointment, poor urban arranging, and racial separation. Detroit can
still be viewed as a beautiful city full of culture and art, both in its stately decay and in its growing
natural abundance. Indeed, Detroit remains to be one of the finest sights to be seen with a little
investing from the people. Chartier (2005) of Cambridge University make a valid point by stating
people will not invest the requisite level of care into their resources if they believe their investments
will be lost . (p 374).

(2008) a faculty member of Harvard University reports that The City of Detroit, Michigan was a
natural subject for the study. Like many other cities in the American Midwest and West, Detroit grew
rapidly, expanding from a population of essentially in 1850 to over 1,800,000 by 1950 . (p 2) The
breakdown of the Big Three automakers has quickened Detroit s decay, and occupants have been
consistently escaping since the 1950s. In that time, the populace has dwindled from around 2 million
to somewhat more than 700,000 individuals; aside from that, there are more than 70,000 deserted
structures and numerous empty lots. Individuals have been relentlessly streaming out of the city for
quite a long time, leaving behind empty homes and scantily populated neighborhoods, leaving vacant
neighborhoods an invitation to more crime and other wrongdoing.
By the mid twentieth century, real changes in the American economy were underway, and the auto
business was on the front line. It wasn t the automotive industry alone that demolished Detroit. It was
urbanization that also played its hand in the demise of Detroit. The city was destroyed by
deindustrialization, and decentralization amid the post World War II spread and when the interstates,
and disinvestments in the urban communities started to dissolve. The auto makers such as Ford,

Virgil, in his epic poem Aeneid tells a story of Aeneas, a Trojan survivor who travels to Italy, and
becomes the ancestor of Romans. The first part of the epic focuses on his travels, while the second
part describes his victory over the Latins. Virgil did not create Aeneas, he was already a known epic
hero who also appears in Iliad. Virgil took all his stories and wrote Aeneid, a story of glory, wars, gods
and heroes. Venus as a benefactor of the Trojans and more importantly his mother helps Aeneas

Space and Mars s Habitability
Synopsis: This research involves discovering how Martian astronauts might deal with their supplies
during a long term mission to Mars and on Mars. The goal is to show that people can develop
technologies to help humans survive in space and on Mars in the future, such as producing food,
recycling water and air, and storing energy. The important technology is the Controlled Ecological
Life Support System (CELSS) that can help in dealing with the supply issues as well as some possible
methods to make energy on Mars. The overall approach of this mission is to create background
knowledge about space habitability for humans in the manned mission to Mars. Upon researching this

The weight of those supplies affects the efficiency of a launch. It is too heavy for the spacecraft to take
off and overcome the gravitational pull of the Earth to get into space. We know that astronauts
traveling to Mars would not be able to stay for a couple days or weeks like the Apollo space mission.
Rather, the Martian astronauts will need to remain in space at least one to three years during the
mission (NASA 2012). If we spend more than nine months in space, we have to build a shelter which
can protect the astronauts from being exposure to radiation risk from the Sun (NASA N.d.a).
Therefore, we need to have good shielding, such as water and cement, but they are very heavy.
Additionally, the astronauts have to bring food, drinking water, air, clothes, medical supplies, and
other things that they need for the mission. All of these things added up together will take about three
million pounds. That is infeasible for them to make it all at once because a spacecraft just only lift
fifty thousand pounds against the Earth s gravity into space. So, they have to make sixty launches for
their supplies to be on Mars. It takes a longer time and costs a lot of money (NASA N.d.a).
Therefore, astronauts can just bring with them some canned foods that are dehydrated and preserved
to keep the foods for a long time and to save weight for the spacecraft (NASA 2012). Also, soybeans
and wheat are suitable because they are light weight, very nutritious, and take a small amount of

Moral Responsibility In Susan Wolf s Analysis
In an attempt to explain moral responsibility, Susan Wolf puts forth a modified version of what she
calls the Deep Self View (DSV) first expounded on by Harry Frankfurt, Gary Watson and Charles
Taylor (Perry et al. 460 462). The key to her argument the condition of sanity; a deep self must be sane
in order to be considered morally responsible. However, I will argue that her attempt fails for the
following two reasons:
1. Wolf s definition of sanity is too vague and to be useful and relies on the collective view of lay
persons.
2. Wolf raises the bar of moral responsibility so high as to make it nearly impossible to reach and in
the process seems to defeat her own argument.
Wolf s attempt to make sense of DSV by creating her own definition of sanity (CITATION) does not
add clarity to DSV but instead creates more confusion. Her definition seems to rely too heavily on the
views of the general population for determining what is and is not sane (CITATION). What is sane

...the minimally sufficient ability cognitively and normatively to recognize and appreciate the world
for what it is (Perry et al. 465).
In other words, society at large is the yardstick for judging what is and is not to be considered sane
and acceptable behavior. While few would object to the role sanity plays in a person s moral
responsibility, Wolf s definition of the sane DSV is far too vague and subjective to be of any real
value.
So, if we accept Wolf s vague definition of the sane DSV and assume our view of the world is the
correct one, we may create even bigger problems. All too often the tyranny of the righteous majority
has violated the rights of the weak and savage minority. Therefore, it is my argument that Wolf s
definition of the sane DSV has the very real potential of creating even more Jo Jo s on an even larger
scale. Wolf acknowledges the difficulty of this objection and admits there are no satisfactory answers

Key Elements For Tissue And Organ Regeneration
Introduction Tissue engineering is an interdisciplinary approach that basically replaces, restore the
function and regenerate the damaged cell or tissue using biological substitutes. Succinctly,
extracellular matrix (ECM) in human tissue is a key element for tissue and organ regeneration. It
provides a convenient environment for the cellular attachment, growth and migration stimulate by
specific signals. This solid matrix has a complex mixture of structural and functional proteins that
serve as a reliable source of nutrient for the cells. ECM also associated with the cell behaviour, tissue
differentiation, organisation and neovascularisation. In tissue engineering, the suitable scaffolds are
use to act as an ECM analogue (1). The various roles and complicated composition of ECM become a
great challenge for the scaffolds to mimic the native ECM in repairing the diseased or damaged tissue.
Thus, it is important to develop the ideal scaffolds with optimal properties and architecture since its
mechanical characteristics will greatly affect the activity of cell adhesion, proliferation and
differentiation. Apparently, the biomaterial used in fabrication of scaffolds may influence its
significant features, such as biodegradability, bioactivity and porosity. The bioactivity, including cell
adhesion, cell alignment and interaction between scaffolds and cellular components could be enhanced
by adding the biological cues onto the biomaterials. Besides that, it is also important for

fast growing network of materials where everything is synced and can collect as well as exchange data
using sensors that are embedded in devices. Although individuals believe that the Internet of Things

Perspective Of Resiliency In Robert Frost s On A Tree...
Robert Frost s Perspective of Resiliency
Resiliency has always been a highly favored characteristic amongst societies. In Robert Frost s On a
Tree Fallen Across the Road the resiliency of the narrator and a group of individuals was challenged.
In the sonnet, a group of individuals were traveling through the woods when a heavy wind storm
knocked a tree in front of them, which resulted in a bar in their pathway. Although after the group of
individuals overcame their tribulation they received a new outlook to life. In the sonnet; On a Tree
Fallen Across the Road, Robert Frost presented imagery and a metaphor in order to communicate his
thoughts and feelings on trials, ultimately Frost illustrated that resiliency through trials result in a new
perspective of life. Frost described the literal meaning of the sonnet through imagery. Through Frost s
description the audience was able to know the sonnet s setting was in a windy environment near trees.
Frost illustrated the setting through his description, ...tempest with a crash of wood. Through the
description of the weather and surroundings of the narrator, the audience was able to know there was a
wind storm and a fallen tree in the path. Correspondly, Frost described the effect of the fallen tree.
Frost illustrated the effect of the collapse of the tree, [The tree] throws down in front of us... The
collapse of the tree established the physical problem within the sonnet. The physical problem within
the sonnet was the tree blockaded the path of the travelers. After Frost described the physical struggle
within the sonnet, he described the outcome. Frost stated, Steer straight off [the path]... The travelers
took a different path to overcome the fallen tree. Overall the literal meaning of the sonnet was
described as a group of travelers built a new path, after a tree fell and blocked their trail. The literal
meaning of Frost s sonnet was described through his use of imagery.
Frost communicated his purpose of the sonnet through a metaphor. The pathway was symbolic of life
and the fallen tree was symbolic for trials individuals face in their lifetime. The psychological problem
was overcome through the strength of the travelers. The narrator proclaimed his

In doing so he slowly gets more and more secluded, which in turn makes his friends suspect that he is
hiding something from them. An example of this is Call glanced back over at Aaron and Tamara. They
were both leaning on the table, their faces tinted green by the lamps. They were staring at him
worriedly. He thought about going back over to them, but he didn t feel like facing their questions.
Instead, he turned and raced out of the library as fast as his leg would let him. When Call s friends

Unemployment On The Us Economy Essay
Name: Instructor: Subject: Date: Unemployment in US economy The unemployment turnover view
has a strong base on the contemporary thinking about unemployment in the entire United States.
Joblessness or unemployment takes place when an individual searches for another new job and
devotes most of time searching for another job. Moreover, unemployment comes into being if an
individual goes in search of a new employment after being out of labor force for a long time. The
individuals in search of employment get employed in monthly duration in a range of 10% to 40%. The
unemployment varies directly with separation rate and varies indirectly with the rate of searching for a
job. For a long time, labor market students have believed that the time of acute rise in unemployment
or recession were due to increased rates of separation from jobs and decreased rates of finding jobs.
From this perspective, the period of recession starts by the trend of layoffs. The trends of layoffs are
mainly done in industries of durable goods. As labor market gets crowded with those seeking for
employment, the rate of finding jobs decreases and the after unemployment duration rises. In contrary,
recent research and data have disapproved this argument. The new perspective views separations as to
have no contribution to the increased problems of unemployment during the period of recession. The
reason behind increased unemployment during the recession is difficulties in finding jobs, not the
dumping of those

African American Teachers
An American psychiatrist by the name of William Glasser once stated, When you study great
teachers...you will learn much more from their caring and hard work than from their style. Teachers
are a huge part of an individual s life. From the time a person enters into preschool until the complete
cessation of their educational career, the teachers and professors along the way each influence that
student s perspective and feeling towards the particular subject they taught. With daily interactions,
teachers become a part of a student s microsystem. They are often times the only other constant adult
figure in their student s life apart from the caregiver. Whether it is acknowledged or not, the
importance of teacher cannot be overstated. Unfortunately, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

There will be one semi instructed interview a week asking about specific situation in the classroom.
During the interviews snacks and drinks will be provided for the students to enable them to feel more
comfortable in the coming days. The purpose of this study is to see if there is a significant impact of
African American teachers on female African American students academic achievement. The
participants test scores will be recorded on a laptop. The notes from the interviews and observations in
the classroom will be kept in separate notebooks. At the beginning of the research, the teachers will be
asked how their teaching style differs from the normative teaching module. Also the participants will
be given notebooks to record their own feelings about school and life in. Every two months the
material will be collected and recorded in a laptop. Every four months the 11 15 year old participants
will be given a 15 dollar gift card to the mall as an incentive to keep them interested and active in the
study. After each recording, there will be member checking and the and all three researchers will
combine notes to ensure what is being recorded is actually purposeful to the intended

Fukushima Earthquake
A 6.9 magnitude earthquake struck northeastern Japan on Tuesday morning at about 6 am local time
(GMT 9 pm Monday), which triggered a minor tsunami wave.
The earthquake was initially approximated at 7.3 in magnitude, but later downgraded to 6.9 by US
Geological Survey. Its epic center was located off the coast of Fukushima prefecture in Honshu island
at a depth of about 9 miles.
The height of waves triggered by the quake varied in different coastal regions, from 1.4 meters at
Sedai port in Miyagi Prefecture to 60 cm at Onahama Port in Fukushima Prefecture. A one meter high
tsunami wave hit the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant which was struck by the massive
tsunami in March 2011 sending its three reactors into meltdown at the time.

Limitations Of Rapid Diagnostics
Timely administration of appropriate antibiotics is essential for decreasing hospital mortality in
patients with sepsis12. Kumar et al. demonstrated that with each hour delay, there is a 7.6% decrease
in survival. Moreover, delaying appropriate antibiotics can increase healthcare costs, length of stay
and antimicrobial resistance13, 14. Traditional methods of microbial identification have time
concerns. Most laboratories take 48 72 hours to determine microorganisms susceptibility testing10,
15. Kerremans et al. did a prospective randomized controlled trial over two years period included
1489 patients to determine the utility of rapid diagnostic testing against traditional methods15. The
intervention group had 20 hours mean reduction for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In another study by the same author, compared a historical control group with MALDI TOF MS
coupled with antimicrobial stewardship and showed mortality benefits (21% vs 8.9%; p = 0.01)19.
The later study overcame some of the limitations of the previous study and included only patients with
antibiotic resistance gram negative bacteremia with sufficient sample size. Selecting the most
appropriate and cost effective rapid diagnostic testing is somehow challenging given the wide range of
commercially available diagnostic tools. Some of these tools require labor intensive clinical
laboratories work with high complexity10. For gram negative bacteremia, two tools have potential
clinical benefits, Verigene gram negative blood culture (BC GN) and FilmArray blood culture
identification (BCID) given their ability to detect resistance patterns in certain microorganisms and
have a short turnaround time after a positive blood culture. A study by MacVane S et al. examined the
usefulness of antimicrobial stewardship programs (ASP) coupled with BCID versus conventional
organism identification coupled with ASP or conventional organism identification (controls) alone20.
Although microorganism identification was shorter in the BCID group (17 hours vs 54 to 57 hours; p

The artist s fabric collages are in several locations as a private collection, they are also placed in a corporate and civic area (ARTHOUSE), she worked in sculpture and sewn collages, however in this exhibit she is great for the fabric work. Axelrad collages are influenced by the real nature and landscape she encounters.Three pieces of her fabric work: River 2, River 3 and Sierra Water reflect her style as modern and elaborated, making her unique from other artists. Each individual collages she made has been carefully arranged, layered, pinned and sewn together (Axelrad) in order to depict the image of nature ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One would think why Kaiser would have chosen this particular work that shows no imagery relating to health. It is understandable if one observe this piece carefully and closely, River 2 similar to Sierra River and River 3 focus on the theme of nature, Earth and water. However, in this piece, it shows more than just life, feminine fertility, and infertility. One could see that there is only a little water movement caused by ripples which allow one to capture the meaning of this River such as steadiness and calmness. The stones have an appearance of flatness and smooth detail similar to limestone and iceberg because of its shape and pigment of white like snow, what also make it similar to iceberg is the stones appears as if it is floating on the water. With no dark contour to given to the stone, there is no roundness giving these rocks a wide appearance. However, the river is lightened by the sunlight revealing the beauty within the water such as the tainted green in the water which reminds one about nature. Kaiser hospital has chosen this work of Axelrad because it reveals not only calm and hope but it reveals peace, comfort and hope (Scott Kemmis) such as the whiteness and pure fabric color for the stones in the work. The river represents calm and peace where the doctor would give to their patient and the stones give strength and comfort toward their patience. This meaning also related to mother love such as comfort for their young who also give similar need just like a doctor giving to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Gilgamesh Hero A Look at the Hero Gilgamesh In all of the story of Gilgamesh, he is portrayed as a somewhat perfect being. Being able to boast of his physical and godlike prowess among his subjects. However, do these two qualities make him that much more of a hero than other ancient hero s tales? Or even a hero at all? Gilgamesh s tales may have qualities that make him like a hero, yet compared to other definitions of a hero he may not stand up to the test of those who, like him, have had their stories told for all ages. As we examine Gilgamesh s story we will see that in physical, personal characteristics, and accomplishments, he might be more of a hero than most of us think he is. First we will examine what the story of Gilgamesh provides us to show ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This may be the reason why in this modern era we may not see him as the hero that the ancients did. When we think of the modern hero we think of someone who is courageous, who fights evil for truth and justice. In the ancient times we see that your accomplishments where what made you a legendary hero not just what you fought for. We can see this especially in the first tablet of Gilgamesh. From the first few lines of the text we see that his accomplishments are praised rather than his ethics. The book says Exploring the furthest reaches of the Earth ... Reaching in his might Utanapishtim the Distant one, Restorer of holy places (Foster, tablet I). Just by these few lines of the book we can see that one was judged by their actions and accomplishments not the way they carried themselves. In the modern age we like to see a hero who both has great accomplishments as well as a good moral stature. Which is why we may not see Gilgamesh as one of our true heroes. Gilgamesh as a whole is one of ancient time s classic heroes. He has all the qualities of the classic Roman and Greek heroes. His many accomplishments do hold some credit as being of heroic value, and even in our own time he does hold some heroic qualities. Heroes over time have had many qualities and held many beliefs, but Gilgamesh has stood the test of time and has continued to be one of the ancient world s oldest ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Uplifting Book Of Psalms I would have to say that there are several divisions of Psalms that I like to read and quote. To me, the Book of Psalms is an uplifting book for me. A few that I enjoy are Psalms 23:1 6; 24:1 10; 27:1 3; 100:1 5 (Bible, KJV). My favorite is Psalms Division 46:1 11. This to me, this lets me know that God is fighting on my behalf. He s going to intercede between me and the problem if I seek Him. No matter what the adversity may be, God wants you to know that He is sufficient, that He is enough, and that He can handle it if we allow Him too. Many times as Christians, we ask God to handle a problem or situation for us, but yet we don t allow Him to fully have control of that situation. All He is wanting us to acknowledge is that He ... • 6. Analysis Of Country Lovers By Nadine Gordiminer Themes Corresponding Works (Draft) Ja Anna Godine ENG 125 Introduction to Literature Instructor Kurt Mueller 2 October 2014 Comparing Racism and Ethnicity in two literature works, Country Lovers and What it s like to be a Black Girl we can trace racism from the very first stanza of the poem What it s like to be a Black Girl and the first paragraph of Country Lovers. In both cases the protagonists are black females who seem to be facing racial discrimination. Most societies have small elements of racial discrimination that can be condoned. In fact some societies are used to racial discrimination. Racial discrimination is more pronounced in minority communities where it is a recurrent experience. Many countries and states have enacted laws that prohibit racism in its entirety, but the success of such laws depends on individuals who can either heed from practicing it or just decide to be hard on others. The short story, Country Lovers written by Nadine Gordiminer in 1975 best represents racial discrimination during colonial period. The story revolves around two main characters Thebedi and Paulus. Paulus Eysendyck was a son to a white settler while Thebedi was a daughter to a Laborer that used to work in Paulus father s farm. Paulus, being the son of the rich white father had the freedom to play and interact with all other kids that lived in the farm. But amongst many kids that he encountered, he developed keen interest in Thebedi. A bond developed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Paleolithic Mating System The study, reported in the journal Science, examined genetic information from the remains of anatomically modern humans who lived during the Upper Palaeolithic, a period when modern humans from Africa first colonised western Eurasia. The symbolism, complexity and time invested in the objects and jewellery found buried with the remains also suggests that it is possible that they developed rules, ceremonies and rituals to accompany the exchange of mates between groups, which perhaps foreshadowed modern marriage ceremonies, and may have been similar to those still practised by hunter gatherer communities in parts of the world today. The study s authors also hint that the early development of more complex mating systems may at least partly explain ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Walter Lee In A Raisin In The Sun In Lorraine Hansberry s A Raisin In The Sun, Walter Lee Younger is a character who makes misguided decisions and drowns his sorrows and mistakes in alcohol. In the midst of all of this, Walter s only goal is to gain respect for himself and his family. The poem Sympathy by Paul Laurence Dunbar shows Walter s yearning to fulfill his purpose by setting his family free from the cage of financial restrictions. Walter is tired of not being able to properly provide for his family and take on the role of man of the house. He wants the best for his family, and especially for his son Travis. In his current state though, all he can give to his family are stories about how rich white people live (Hansberry, 34),. This frustrates him as he is over thirty, yet has a boy who sleeps in the living room (Hansberry, 34), and can barely provide for his family. This is similar to the first stanza of Sympathy , where the caged bird feels all the beauty of freedom but can never fully experience it. Walter, like the bird is trapped and is tauntingly reminded of this daily. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, yes, if you like, I rate her higher than klytaimnestra, my own wife! She loses nothing by comparison in beauty or womanhood, in mind or skill (9). He says how much he loves her by saying their is no comparison that she loses, she is smart and pretty, in mind and smart by abilities. The other interesting part is when Agamemnon, prepares others for the war, and reveals his gift. You must prepare, however, a prize of honor for me, and at once, that I may not be left without my portion I, of all Argives (9). I think the fascinating point from the starting of this story is how you can send messages or communicate through dreams and how Akhaians thought to send message to be prepared for the war with the help of dreams to Agamemnon. The troops were turning out now, thick as bees that issue from some crevice in a rock face, endlessly pouring forth, to make a cluster and swarm or blooms of summer here and there, glinting and droning, busy in bright air. I like how the technique imagery has been used in the quote, to show how the situation is and to give us a detail of what s going on by using good comparisons and symbolism. After the snake had gorged upon them all, the god who sent him, turned him into an omen; turned him to stone. The last interesting part in book 2 and the Iliad is the transformation that takes places. The snake is turned into an omen here, which is kind of like a real life fantasy. These misfortunes can be triggered by human action or can occur involuntarily. Ranging from natural disasters, to diseases, to internal or external conflict, each has been proven to be detrimental to the stability of the society. Haiti has recently gotten attention for being simultaneously affected by multiple crises; each of which helps to place Haiti in a trap which they cannot lift themselves out of without foreign intervention and aid. Organizations such as the Jesuit Universities Humanitarian Action Network (JUHAN), a collaboration between Jesuit universities, are in place hoping to promote awareness ... Officials in Haiti estimate that an overwhelming 90,000 to 120,000 children are currently forced into this practice, reflecting greatly on the lack of economic stability and growth within the country (2005 Trafficking in Persons Report). When thinking of sexual exploitation, forced prostitution and rape are often the first to come to mind; however, women of Haiti have been noted to consciously choose to exploit themselves. Furthermore, women will trade sex for a goods, shelter, or even security, in turn causing sex to be classified as an income generating strategy (Kempadoo, 84). According to a statistic pulled in 1984, 30 percent of the prostitutes from Haiti or from the Dominican Republic were between fifteen and twenty years old (Benoit, 39). Consequently, the numbers of individuals affected by trafficking in Haiti is evident of the presence and nature of crisis occurring. Haiti is extremely susceptible to the humanitarian crisis of human trafficking due to their unstable government, lack of law enforcement, and static economy. Although Jean Bertrand Aristide held the position of president, the society still suffered from brutal acts of violence. Due to the fear of being overthrown, the military acted in this way to divest the Haitian people of their freedoms (Americas Watch, 1). However, subsequent to Aristide s resignation in early 2004, Haiti continued to struggle to gain control ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. A Mission Statement For A Strategic Planning In formulating a process for undertaking a strategic plan for, say the veterinary services organization mentioned in my course paper and presentation, a first step would be formulating at least a mission statement for the organization. Since the veterinary clinic in question had not formalized a mission statement its mission was perhaps nebulous or up for debate. Berman suggests that the original mission statement might be revisited during the design phase (please see the following below), however, if none is in place prior to the start of strategic planning then perhaps an attempt to develop one at the start of the strategic planning process is advisable, even if it were to be revisited and modified during the process. As the Chinese proverb states, 如果你不知道你要去哪裡,任何道路會 帶你去那裡。 * The mission statement allows the organization to develop specific goals and programs and serve a purpose in the strategic planning process. Berman states in Chapter 4, the purpose of strategic planning is change, and is therefore a process. This process, he continues, is typically made up of four phases. These four phases are preplanning, research, design and implementation. This process helps the organization to align priorities to changing conditions and opportunities. In the case of the veterinary services organization, it was poised for change and that change would be best pursued using a strategic planning process. The clinic was ready for new goals and strategies, and needed to create a shared ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Case Study Of Porter s Diamond Topic: Does Porter s Diamond concept convincingly explain the achievements of major national business systems, or are their weaknesses, theoretically and empirically, in his arguments? There exist classical theories of international trade which discuss the reasons why particular industries and particular economies are more competitive than the rest. In his book The Competitive Advantage of Nations, Michael E Porter argued or analyzed the broad factors which determined the competitiveness of certain economies and industries. Rugman s analysis resulted in the double diamond being creative which is a better tool to analyze the international competitiveness. For instance, Mexico s economic future is closely linked to its neighbor the United States of America and also through North America. Hence the double diamond proposed by Rugman proves to be more effective in determining Mexico s success/ resurgence in various economic sectors. One of the four cornerstones of the Porters diamond is the importance of rivalry. In the year 1993 Lazonick argued that rivalry alone cannot cause firms to innovate. He was of the opinion that when the firms face too much pressure from competitors, it may cause the companies to adapt and imitate instead of innovation. Thanks to dolphin safe labels and movement, there has been great improvement on this practice. This improvement has led to a reduction of dolphin mortalities to less than 1500 per year in 2004. Unfortunately, even with this progress, dolphins and the other marine mammals affected are struggling to repopulate because of how affected the species were from all the previous years but also since large scale captures are still going on. • 19. Importance Of Integrity In The Military This I Believe This I believe is a very vague question in terms of what I believe. I have a multiplex of beliefs, yet one of my cardinal beliefs is integrity. Integrity is knowing that you re honest and fair, which is what I live by. It s a level of respect you give which results in a positive outcome on your character as a human being. It s a trait not everyone has fortitude to achieve and not one of those traits you re born with, it s one of those traits you develop over the span of your life as you attain understanding. When I initial set foot in the military I had no concept of what integrity was or what it denoted. • 24. The Universality of the Marginalize Other through Irish Film Term Paper: The Universality of the Marginalized Other Through Irish Film Film has the unique ability to be both deeply personal and yet universal in nature. While national cinemas have the ability to define a country s national identity and presence in the world, they also have the ability to reach global audiences with universal themes that reverberate through the global consciousness and tell the stories of many around the world. Though themes of national identity and marginalized populations can seem to be specific to their national cultures and countries, the greater more universal themes of inequality and social strife can be found just below the surface, lending theses films a universal appeal. In Irish film the Travelling community has often taken center stage as both the subject of romantic notions of national identity as well as a symbol of contemporary social and economic policies and increased globalization of modern Ireland. When dealing with the Irish Travelling community as a symbol, the themes, issues, and concerns facing this population can become globalized and can come to represent larger issues facing global marginalized communities all over the world. The weight of those supplies affects the efficiency of a launch. It is too heavy for the spacecraft to take off and overcome the gravitational pull of the Earth to get into space. We know that astronauts traveling to Mars would not be able to stay for a couple days or weeks like the Apollo space mission. Rather, the Martian astronauts will need to remain in space at least one to three years during the mission (NASA 2012). If we spend more than nine months in space, we have to build a shelter which can protect the astronauts from being exposure to radiation risk from the Sun (NASA N.d.a). Therefore, we need to have good shielding, such as water and cement, but they are very heavy. Additionally, the astronauts have to bring food, drinking water, air, clothes, medical supplies, and other things that they need for the mission. That is infeasible for them to make it all at once because a spacecraft just only lift fifty thousand pounds against the Earth s gravity into space. • 32. Moral Responsibility In Susan Wolf s Analysis In an attempt to explain moral responsibility, Susan Wolf puts forth a modified version of what she calls the Deep Self View (DSV) first expounded on by Harry Frankfurt, Gary Watson and Charles Taylor (Perry et al. 460 462). The key to her argument the condition of sanity; a deep self must be sane in order to be considered morally responsible. However, I will argue that her attempt fails for the following two reasons: 1. Wolf s definition of sanity is too vague and to be useful and relies on the collective view of lay persons. 2. Wolf raises the bar of moral responsibility so high as to make it nearly impossible to reach and in the process seems to defeat her own argument. Wolf s attempt to make sense of DSV by creating her own definition of sanity (CITATION) does not add clarity to DSV but instead creates more confusion. Her definition seems to rely too heavily on the views of the general population for determining what is and is not sane (CITATION). What is sane then ... So, if we accept Wolf s vague definition of the sane DSV and assume our view of the world is the correct one, we may create even bigger problems. All too often the tyranny of the righteous majority has violated the rights of the weak and savage minority. Some women in munitions factories were called canaries because they had to handle TNT (the chemical compound trinitrotoluene) which caused their skin to turn yellow. Around 400 women died from overexposure to TNT during WWI. Women s employment rates increased during WWI, from 23.6% in 1914 to between 37.7% and 46.7% in 1918. The employment of married women increased sharply accounting for nearly 40% of all women workers by 1918. Women s rights were advanced since they took their own paid job outside the home, ran their homes alone, and supported the whole family s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 43. Unemployment On The Us Economy Essay Name: Instructor: Subject: Date: Unemployment in US economy The unemployment turnover view has a strong base on the contemporary thinking about unemployment in the entire United States. Joblessness or unemployment takes place when an individual searches for another new job and devotes most of time searching for another job. Moreover, unemployment comes into being if an individual goes in search of a new employment after being out of labor force for a long time. The individuals in search of employment get employed in monthly duration in a range of 10% to 40%. The unemployment varies directly with separation rate and varies indirectly with the rate of searching for a job. For a long time, labor market students have believed that the time of acute rise in unemployment or recession were due to increased rates of separation from jobs and decreased rates of finding jobs. From this perspective, the period of recession starts by the trend of layoffs. The trends of layoffs are mainly done in industries of durable goods. As labor market gets crowded with those seeking for employment, the rate of finding jobs decreases and the after unemployment duration rises. In contrary, recent research and data have disapproved this argument. The new perspective views separations as to have no contribution to the increased problems of unemployment during the period of recession. The reason behind increased unemployment during the recession is difficulties in finding jobs, not the dumping of those ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

African American Teachers An American psychiatrist by the name of William Glasser once stated, When you study great teachers...you will learn much more from their caring and hard work than from their style. Teachers are a huge part of an individual s life. From the time a person enters into preschool until the complete cessation of their educational career, the teachers and professors along the way each influence that student s perspective and feeling towards the particular subject they taught. With daily interactions, teachers become a part of a student s microsystem. They are often times the only other constant adult figure in their student s life apart from the caregiver. Whether it is acknowledged or not, the importance of teacher cannot be overstated. Unfortunately, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 46. Limitations Of Rapid Diagnostics Timely administration of appropriate antibiotics is essential for decreasing hospital mortality in patients with sepsis12. Kumar et al. demonstrated that with each hour delay, there is a 7.6% decrease in survival. Moreover, delaying appropriate antibiotics can increase healthcare costs, length of stay and antimicrobial resistance13, 14. Traditional methods of microbial identification have time concerns. Most laboratories take 48 72 hours to determine microorganisms susceptibility testing10, 15. In another study by the same author, compared a historical control group with MALDI TOF MS coupled with antimicrobial stewardship and showed mortality benefits (21% vs 8.9%; p = 0.01)19. The later study overcame some of the limitations of the previous study and included only patients with antibiotic resistance gram negative bacteremia with sufficient sample size. Selecting the most appropriate and cost effective rapid diagnostic testing is somehow challenging given the wide range of commercially available diagnostic tools. Some of these tools require labor intensive clinical laboratories work with high complexity10. For gram negative bacteremia, two tools have potential clinical benefits, Verigene gram negative blood culture (BC GN) and FilmArray blood culture identification (BCID) given their ability to detect resistance patterns in certain microorganisms and have a short turnaround time after a positive blood culture. A study by MacVane S et al. examined the usefulness of antimicrobial stewardship programs (ASP) coupled with BCID versus conventional organism identification coupled with ASP or conventional organism identification (controls) alone20. Although microorganism identification was shorter in the BCID group (17 hours vs 54 to 57 hours; p 0.001), there was no ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
