2. The Use of Distortion as a Literary Device in George...
Animal Farm, by George Orwell, is an excellent example of distortion as a literary
device. The story is set up as a fable using a third person objective viewpoint and
personification of animals to represent historical figures and stereotypes. Distortion
can also be found in much of the symbolism throughout the novel. Similar to a
fable, Animal Farm makes use of personification. In the story, farm animals are used
to represent different classes of people, from the average working man to
government officials and police or military personnel. This element of the novel goes
deeper, when the pigs on the farm begin to resemble historical figures such as Joseph
Stalin and Leon Trotsky, of Russia. Through distortion of character, Orwell brings...

This brings the reader to the level of the working class animals and instills a sense
of uncertainty and disillusionment that is felt by most of the characters in the
story. In the beginning, the animals are excited by Major s talk of rebellion against
Mr. Jones and through Orwell s objective point of view, the same feeling of
insurrection is passed on to the audience. As the pigs weave an intricate web of lies
and scandal, the reader gets the sense that not all is well in the same way the animals
do. The difference between the animals and ourselves lies in intelligence. The author
deliberately makes the characters dumber than the average person, allowing us to see
through the deception of the pigs, without the use of a third person omniscient
viewpoint. Symbolically, Animal Farm itself is supposed to represent Russia and the
Soviet Union under Communist control. The farm in today s world, being a small,
self sustaining entity may relate to current conditions in North Korea. It seems that
Kim Jong il, like the pigs, is much more equal than his subjects. Kim and Napoleon
seem to share the paranoia of being attacked by more powerful rivals, and both it
seems, have a desire to keep their respective nations in the dark. Perhaps less
specifically, the farm could represent human society as a whole. As mentioned earlier,
the characters display an entire spectrum of human classes and stereotypical
personalities.

3. Metaphors, Forms Of Human Communication And
Erapeutic Uses
Metaphors, forms of symbolic language, have been used as teaching and healing
tools in stories for centuries, cite Mills and Crowley (2014). PTUK course book
(2017) also cites that research by Levin and Modell has proven that more brain cells
light up in response to metaphor than any other form of human communication
forming new neural pathways. In this essay I will be looking at the theory behind
using a therapeutic story and relating it to my process of using one with my client.
Sunderland (2000) states that stories can be an important part of therapeutic tool kit,
as a vehicle, through which a child can process troubled feelings. Sunderland (2000)
adds that children can often find it difficult to put their feelings into words, as their
natural communication method is through images and metaphors. A therapeutic
story can express those feelings in child s language and help the child to build trust
that her feelings are understood, which then will help the child to share her own
feelings. Sunderland (2002) also advises that there are four ways a therapeutic story
can work; It can present the child options that she can use when coming across an
obstacle, it can present new ways and solutions of dealing with problems that might
have felt unsolvable, it can show ways of coping with emotional problems, and it can
provide options for new ways of being. Ericson (1991) cites that the therapist should
encourage learning through experience, as this is more beneficial than learning
4. The Psychology of Heavy Metal Music Essay
Does heavy metal music have effects on society? Many people love listening to this
kind of music and they love going to concerts where these bands are playing. Going
to concerts and listening to music is the whole part of the music industry. If fans did
not go to concerts, then musicians would not be able to make money and be
successful. Many people love listening to heavy metal music; however, some people
think that it could lead to violence, depression, and self loathing.
There have been numerous events in society where heavy metal musicians have been
blamed for the events that took place. Musicians have been blamed in school
shootings and other events that have caused tragedy or discomfort in the world. The

for people to misinterpret the meaning of his songs. Some people do not listen to
the lyrics closely. Some just listen to the music and do not follow along with the
lyrics. Heavy metal music has been a source of criticism ever since its birth in the
late nineteen eighties (Coss). Many people criticize this type of music because
there is anger shown in the lyrics. Although the lyrics can be controversial at times,
there is no evidence saying that heavy metal music causes violence. Its
controversial lyrics and harsh sounds have made it the target of much blame for
psychological and behavioral problems in teenagers (Coss). Parents of teenagers
now and in past decades have worried about their kids listening to this kind of
music. Most parents do not want their kids to listen to this kind of music; they are
afraid that the music will lead to devastating effects in society. Another reason why
parents do not like heavy metal music is that the music is extremely loud and ear
shattering. Most people over

spirituality. Religion is one of the most important efforts to answer the most profound

6. The Reality Of British Television Programs
When thinking of British television programs, it is impossible for one not to think of
the international hit, Doctor Who. Originally debuting in 1963 under the British
Broadcasting Corporation, Doctor Who included an upperclass white male playing
the lead character along side another white male and two white females. Doctor Who
aired during the 1960 s when Great Britain was still recovering from the
destruction of World War II and was also facing the reality that they were not the
world power they once were. Also, large influx of immigrations were entering
Great Britain during this period. Class, gender, and racial prejudices were
extremely prevalent within society and Doctor Who was no exception. Yet
eventually attitudes change and the producers of the show understood that to
remain relevant within popular culture, they would also need to change. Even
though, Doctor Who has made strives over the past five decades to create a more
inclusive television program, they still lack in accurate representation of society.
During the 1960 s, Great Britain was coming to terms with the decline of their once
massive empire as well as overall lose of world power. The United States of America
and the Soviet Union were now the dominating powers, leaving Great Britain
frustrated. That is where media stepped in the help counteract this fact. British
television and films were made to demonstrate the power and knowledge of the
kingdom with the James Bond series and the Avengers. Doctor

would only become slave to the government. Spooner writes that this government just

Nov 3rd, 2015 Research Paper on O Blood Group
Before we talk about O blood group. I would like to include that O blood type caught
my interest for writing a research paper. It s because I personally have O negative
blood group which is rare and considered to be a universal donor. So first of all, we
must know what is blood group? Blood group is actually a different type of blood
with different and complex chemical system found in the human being, also
determine compatibility during a blood transfusion (nzblood.co.nz). According to
American Red Cross, negative blood group is always 50% compatible then
positive blood group. Blood group is determined by two blood system. They are
antigens and Rh factor. These two are the one that brings changes in the blood.
Antigens are the foreign elements like blood cells that stimulated the immune
system to produce antibody during a blood transfusion. What this does is, it
protects the body from harmful substances. They are ABO found in the surface of
blood compose of sugar and protein. A and B are antigens while O doesn t have
antigens. And Rh factor is considered to be a protein on the surface of RBC .i.e. Red
Blood Cell. Blood type having low protein in it has always negative Rh while blood
type having protein in it has positive Rh (redcrossblood.org). This led me to ask one
question Are they really a universal donor and how antigen and Rh factor play their
role?

The purpose of this analysis is to examine the rhetorical appeals on an argument
presented by two different authors who have written about the subject of the Military
s Budget. In the article, Yes, Of Course We Should Cut Military Spending! by Henry
Blodget, He argues that Military Spending should be cut and given to more needed
civil programs. Contrary to Henry, the article, Reckless Cuts to US Military Spending

Budgetcuts will leave the US Military unable to carry out their duties and will but
this country s interest at risk. This paper will examine the rhetorical appeals of
ethos, pathos, and logos found within each of the articles presented by these
authors. In addition, highlights of the author s similarities and differences in style
will be noted here as well. Henry Blodget, the author of the article Yes, of course we
should cut military spending! is the co founder, CEO, and editor in chief of Business

When talking about Apple as a company, there is no doubt in regards to its brilliant
business strategies and how innovative it is. Apple Inc. was founded by Steve Jobs,
Steve Wozniak, and Ronald Wayne in April of 1976. The company is one of the
number one market leaders in the technology industry with a revenue of more than
$500 billion in 2013. It was able to expand the business worldwide due to such a high
demand, which it now has more than 400 stores in more than 10 different countries.
The company is well known for continuous innovation through its products mix
include iPod, iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV, iOS, and OS X operating systems, as
well as iCloud and other supporting offerings.
Despite the economy downturn in 2008, the company was still able to maintain its
profit and revenue years after that. According to Gamble and Marino (2013), The
record in growth in revenues and profits came primarily from volume increases in
the sale of iPhones and iPads, which increased by 142% and 183%, respectively,
from the same period in 2010. (Apple Inc. in 2011, p.350). How was Apple capable
of setting itself apart from rivals in order to maintain its position in the marketplace?
The answer lies on its leverage in creativity and products innovation. Apple is
extremely diversified in terms of the product lines as mentioned earlier, it s the
purpose and commitment in providing the most outstanding services and innovative

11. Introduction To Peroxynitrite ( Onoo )
Introduction
Peroxynitrite (ONOOв€’) is a well known potent oxidant and nitrating agent that
is formed through the interaction of (NO) with superoxide ion (O2 ) and its
production is allied to the superoxide sources (for instance mitochondrial
respiratory complexes or NAD(P)H oxidases present on plasma membrane) because
superoxide is a shorter lived species and also shows constrained diffusion across
biological membranes whereas NO is quite stable and extremely diffusible free
radical. In vivo, the rate of production in particular organelles (such as phagocytic
vacuoles in macrophages) is very high as 50 100 ОјM per min. The ability of
peroxynitrite to cross cell membranes despite of having short half life at
physiological pH (~10 ms) suggested that peroxynitrite formed could persuade
adjoining target cells within one to two cell diameters (~5 20 Ојm) (Denicola et al.,
1998). The decomposition of peroxynitrite occur via proton catalyzed manner to
form OH and NO2 radicals in hydrophobic phases and initiates lipid peroxidation
(Radi et al., 1991; Bartesaghi et al., 2006).
Peroxynitrite can either oxidize or nitrate different biological molecules like thiols,
tyrosine residues in proteins and phospholipids having unsaturated fatty acids.
Radicals derived through peroxynitrite carries out one electron reactions, form
sulphilic and sulphonic acid derivatives (Quijano et al., 1997; Bonini and Augusto,
2001). Purine bases, present in DNA, are susceptible to oxidation and adduct
12. Genetic Disorders ( Genetic Disease Foundation ) Essay
There are around 6,000 known genetic disorders (Genetic Disease Foundation).
The symptoms of these disorders range from memory loss to blindness, physical
abnormalities and more. A process known as gene editing was created in an
attempt to do away with genetic disorders. Gene editing was named Science
Magazine s Breakthrough of the Year 2015 due to its ease and high accessibility
(ScienceDirect). It works by using CRISPR (Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short
Palindromic Repeats) and Cas9 to make changes in the genes of cells. Francisco
Mojica discovered CRISPR in 1993 at the University of Alicante in Spain (Broad
Institute). It works by adding, changing or even removing DNAbases (Your Genome).
Alexander Bolotin discovered Cas9 in 2005 at the French National Institute for
Agricultural Research (Broad Institute). Cas9 is an enzyme that acts as a pair of
molecular scissors that can cut two strands of DNA at a specific location in the
genome so that bits of DNA can then be added or removed (YourGenome). The
CRISPR Cas9 system has been used to correct genetic mutations and for replacing
entire genes, opening up a world of possibilities for the treatment of genetic diseases
(ScienceDirect). This makes CRISPR Cas9 a new and revolutionary technology with
a wide range of potential applications, and almost everybody will be affected by gene
editing in one way or another. The scientists currently working on making human
gene editing a reality, is only one group of

How the stability/instability of funding shape the nature of activities of international
organizations
The funding sources for IOs are not exactly the same. While some depend on
regular budgetary contributions, others depend on voluntary contributions for the
fulfillment of their mandates. In either ways, the flow of funds could be stable or
not stable. The stability or instability of these funds could affect the nature of
activities IOs choose to do in several ways: it could affect the execution of
mandates, planning and timing of programs, and sustainability. First, the flow and
availability of funds is the life blood of very IO. Even though every IO designs the
nature and type program of activities based on its mandates for a given period, the
implementation of such programs are dependent on the availability of funds. Thus,
the timing of the program implementation is tied to the availability of funds.
Programs with stable funds will be carried out on time and programs with delayed or
no funds will be delayed in implementation or not carried out at all. Therefore, which
programs to carry out and when to carry them out is dependent on the stability or
instability of funds. Secondly, given the fact that the stability or instability of funds
are dependent on donors, donors capitalize on it to control the types of activities that
IOs engage in. Donors therefore attach

Theodora; it is they who truly capture the magnificence and variety that can be found

is the subject of marijuana such in high demand, if the US already considers it a
drug? There are many facts that need to be looked at before a final decision can

Another point that has been brought up with the legislature is that marijuana is just

people will get addicted, and of course they would get tired of getting a regular high

imprisonment and escape from imprisonment (Mendes, 1999). American Beauty

Mendes effectively employs a range of techniques to help convey the meaning of this

Cinema often uses structured set design and camera angles to convey meaning to an
audience. Throughout American Beauty, MendesКј use of set design and camera

Interestingly, as the п¬Ѓlm progresses and LesterКјs relationships evolve, the camera
angles also evolve in reverse and the audience begins to see Lester shot in a low
angle and characters like Carolyn are shot in a high angle, indicating that Carolyn is
now vulnerable. These altered camera angles give Lester a triumphant image.
Another technique Mendes uses is colour. The use of colour is often an important
technique utilised by п¬Ѓlm directors to communicate themes and ideas to an
audience. In American Beauty, Mendes powerfully uses colour to communicate that
the characters are attempting to escape from their imprisonment. Initially the
characters are seen in environments that are very dull and nondescript, as Mendes
(1999) states when referring to LesterКјs work setting. As LesterКјs quest for
escapement gains momentum, the vivid colour of red is gradually introduced more
into this п¬Ѓlm through subtle furnishings in the Burnham house and particularly
integrated with LesterКјs sexual fantasies. The use of the vibrant, red rose petal is
п¬Ѓrst introduced when Lester and Carolyn attend JaneКјs cheer performance, where
Lester loses himself as he enters his п¬Ѓrst tunnel of fantasy (Mendes, 1999).
Deschler (1999) states the rose is symbolic of American beauty, and the colour red
symbolises passion and love. The significance of the rose petal and the colour red
is repeatedly seen throughout the п¬Ѓlm in house furnishings such as a bouquet of

middle class lifestyle than ever before, yet for the majority, the cost for a bachelor s
degree has become prohibitively expensive. In The Land of Opportunity , Loewen
contends that high school education methodically avoids a critical dialogue of
socioeconomic inequality in America. The social classto which a student belongs
greatly influences their capacity for upward mobility. If higher educationis a
requirement for improved economic status, then students in the lower class are
already disadvantaged. Loewen quotes Theodore Sizer, If you are the child of low
income parents, the chances are good that you will receive limited and often careless
attention from adults in your high school (qtd. in Loewen, 203). High school students
cannot look to the classroom to prepare them for real world power dynamics. If left to
their own devices, adolescents may be influenced by skewed allegories in fictional
entertainment media. Parents must use educational resources to prompt critical
thinking about socioeconomic inequality in order to prepare America s youth for
securing their futures. Though there may be little to no exposure to these ideas in the
classroom, students will encounter them as they consume mass entertainment media.
Social class disparity has long been a reoccurring theme in film. Adolescents and
young adults
21. Drones Pros Cons
Over the past few decades, drones have slowly been coming into use, showing
astonishing results, such as a 1.5% civilian casualty rate (Lewis 1 9). At first they
were only used for surveillance, but now, they are used for much more than that. The
military should continue using drones because of the many advantages they have
over traditional combat methods, namely fewer civilian casualties, lower
expenditures, increased abilities, and the moral responsibility of their use. Despite
these facts, there are those who question the use of drones and believe that drones
create more threats to our military than they destroy. The advantages of drones
provide the U.S. military with an edge over terrorists and will help end the war on
terrorismwith as little costs and casualties as possible. Perhaps the most important
benefit drones have over traditional... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A team of experts behind the scenes with the drone pilot can look at the details of a
situation and make decisions based on them, whereas a fighter jet pilot has to make
decisions on the spot by himself (Callam). According to some moral philosophers,
political scientists, and weapon specialists, drones are the most moral weapons
available (Ahmad 21 29). Many even consider their use ethically obligatory (Shane).
This means that it is the responsibility for the U.S. to use drones and protect other
nations from terrorists and other threats. The use of drones is considered a
responsibility of the U.S. because of how little collateral damage it inflicts. Drones
are so much more efficient at eliminating targets without many civilian casualties
than traditional methods that it would be morally wrong to not use drones in our
military (Shane). As more drones are used, fewer soldiers have to be sent to battle,
which means fewer of our soldiers coming back in

23. Literary Criticism Of A Raisin In The Sun
A Raisin In The Sun, is a realist drama play, that takes place in the South Side of
Chicago, between 1945 and 1959. The play is about the, Youngers , an African
American family who struggles with economic problems and racial discrimination.
The play starts out in the Younger s apartment, a small two bedroom place with
worn out furniture. Ruth, an African woman who serves as a protagonist who lives
in the apartment with her husband Walter, the main protagonist, and son Travis.
Mama, who is Walter s mother lives there as well with her second daughter
Beneatha. They start arguing about the check Walter s father has left behind after
his death. Beneatha suggests that Mama should take it, but Walter suggests they
should use it to start a liquor business. Mama disagrees and wants to buy her dream
home. After everyone leaves the home, Mama and Ruth talk about the money,
while discussing Ruth faints. She goes to see a doctor and gets told that she is
pregnant. She is scared, because they can barely afford what they have and plans to
abort. Meanwhile, Walter gets a call from his friend Willy who wants to partner up
and start the business, he later finds out about Ruth s pregnancy and gets mad for her
decision to abort. The check later arrives and Mama announces that she has used it to
buy a house. Everyone is happy about finding a better place, except for Walter. Mama
decides to give Walter the remaining money, for the business, but turns out that Willy,
his partner runs away
24. Elizabethan Era Clothing
Fashion is a big part of many people s lives, but it is constantly changing and
growing. In the Elizabethan time fashion was very different than it is today. For
example trends and materials used have changed. The colors people wore told a lot
about who they were, unlike today. Some parts of fashion have stayed pretty constant
throughout the years. For example today and then there are known designers around
the world. Also fashion still impacts lives greatly. So when looking at fashion
throughout the years it is evident that materials, trends, color usage, designers, and
the impact on society has greatly changed and is still changing. Everyone has a

mostly the one who set the trends. She also determined the laws about fashion.
Many times people would just copy what she would wear. She impacted both

those close to her, her ladies in waiting wore her old dresses; other women strove to

designs and trends came from Queen Elizabeth. Many people looked up to her as a

Because East of Eden is a novel woven together of many people and many stories, it
is an especially difficult novel to summarize. It is impossible to draw character
sketches without interweaving them with the storyline, thus, I have combined the
characters descriptions and plot summary. The book opens by describing the lives of
two very different families in very different parts of America. First the Hamiltons, a
patriarch built around the wise but impractical Samuel, who emigrated from Ireland
in the early 1900 s to start a new life in America in the Salinas Valley. He owns a

Charles has fathered fraternal twins, but Cathy bites Samuel while he is delivering

able to get out of bed Cathy tries to leave Adam. When Adam tries to stop her, she
shoots him in the shoulder with his own gun. Cathy runs away and Adam sinks
further and further into a depression. A Chinese servant raises the boys for Adam but
they remain unnamed. The Chinese servant, Lee, is the character Steinbeck uses to
initiate philosophical discussions in the novel. While Lee pretends around most
people to be unable to speak or understand English, he was actually raised in a
Presbyterian home and is an accomplished scholar. When, at 15 months, Samuel
Hamilton learns the twins have not been named, he goes to the ranch Adam once
dreamed could be an Eden and literally knocks sense into Adam.
After Samuel s visit Adam begins to come out of his daze. Samuel, Adam, and Lee,
the Chinese servant, begin to discuss names for the twins. The men discuss the story
of Cain and Abel and by dusk the boys are named Caleb (known as Cal) and Aaron
(who later changes his name to Aron). Note again the symbolism of

According to Hubbard Brown (2007), At the time the Constitution was written, there
was no such thing as the American people only scattered groups of people that
needed to be brought into a larger whole (p. 81).
Articles of Confederation vs. Constitution of 1787 The Articles of Confederation and
the Constitution of 1787 had many differences from one another. The Articles of
Confederation were America s first constitutional government in effect from 1781
1788. The articles created a weak decentralized form of government that lacked the
power to tax and compel state obedience to treaties if negotiated (Keene, J. D.,
Cornell, S., O Donnell, E.T. 2013, p. 154). The Constitution of 1787, which
happened in Philadelphia, allowed all states to be invited to debate and ratify this
Constitution. This was the time the government divided into different sectors, which
included the judicial, executive, and legislative branch. Even though the Articles of
Confederation gave sovereignty to the states, it was not working as efficiently as
they hoped for and several issues arose. The confederate congress could not solve
the nation s problems because of lack of money from not being able to tax without
representation. Without this tax money, there was a lack of funds to pay for wars
and uphold a powerful navy. The American economy declined into a depression and
caused military challenges that occurred due to lack of diplomacy.
Piracy became a very serious problem from the lack of a

Nazi Extermination Camps
Anti Semitism reached to extreme levels beginning in 1939, when Polish Jews were
regularly rounded up and shot by members of the SS. Though some of these SS men
saw the arbitrary killing of Jews as a sport, many had to be lubricated with large
quantities of alcohol before committing these atrocious acts. Mental trauma was not
uncommon amongst those men who were ordered to murder Jews. The establishment
of extermination camps therefore became the Final Solution to the Jewish Question ,
as well as a way to alleviate the mental trauma that grappled the minds of Nazi
soldiers. The following essay will examine various primary and secondary sources to

After the gas vans of Chelmno were phased out, SS officials began devising new
methods of extermination that would kill more Jews at an accelerated rate. Fischer
notes that the Nazis decided that execution by poison gas in remote annihilation
camps was the most efficient and humane method of murdering the Jews. Aktion
Reinhard (named after Reinhard Heydrich who was assassinated in Czechoslovakia)
was the plan aimed to exterminate Polish Jews living within General Government to
the East. Because the Jewish population here was high (2.3 million), three major
death camps equipped with large gas chambers were established. Jews who were
considered unfit for work (including many women and children) were extracted from
labor camps to be exterminated. Belzec, located on the southwest border of former
Poland, was the first extermination center initially built to kill off Jews from the
Galicia and Lublin regions in order to make room for German Jews in the labor
camps. Noakes interestingly notes that Belzec was an experimental solution to a
regional problem rather than the start of a Europe wide extermination programme. In
other words, Belzec was designed initially to kill the Jews in the East, while the
decision to murder the entirety of Europe s Jewish population had not yet been
realized. According to Noakes,
31. Spike Lee Film Analysis
Spike Lee is an impeccable film director and actor. He receives a lot of backlash
due to the topics he addresses in his films. Spike Lee is known for dealing with
controversial issues within is film. Some of those issues depicted in his films were
politics, urban violence, and racism. Spike Lee s famous films that displays these
controversial issues are: A Spike Lee Joint, Bamboozled, and 25th hour, Do The Right
Thing.
I noticed familiar faces from both films and I could see a pattern within his
characters he chose. For instance, in the film Do the Right Thing , Joie Lee
played as Jade, which is Mookie s sister. She was the responsible sister that took care
of Mookie. However, in Mo Better she took on a more sexualized role. She played
one of Denzel Washington s girlfriends, Indigo, which was also a teacher.
In Spike Lee s films, he typically cast himself and other African American actors
/actress like: Samuel L. Jackson, Denzel Washington, Roger Guenveur Smith. These
actors have sincere love and passion for their craft and you can certainly see that
within the films.
In the film Do the Right Thing basically shows the differences in each race. In this
film Lee shows characters as a stereotype via their clothing, languages, environments,
and their culture. He had an African American with a necklace on and they were
carrying a boom box down the street, listening to rap music. Puerto Ricans were
listening to salsa while speaking Spanish at their apartment. The
32. The 13th Warrior And Beowulf Comparison Essay
After watching the film, The 13th Warrior, and reading the epic, Beowulf, there are
several similarities and differences. The main characters are different, with similar
goals, but different reasons for doing what they do. The main idea never truly
changes, and is persistent throughout both the film and the poem. The differences in
the set up of the film outweigh the similarities, but the similarities of the plot and the
general concept are easily noticed.
Between the film and the poem, there are a vast amount of similarities. For example,
in both the poem and the film there is an epic hero. The film however is told from
the view of Ibn, the thirteenth chosen warrior to fight will Buliwyf (Beowulf) in battle
against creatures; and in the poem, the story is told from the view of Beowulf.
Between the two epic heros, they both strive and defeat the old race that attempts to
come back; and they both have to defeat a dragon or a fire serpent. Another
similarity is when they go into battle. In particular, in the film when Ibn and his men
were attacked by the warriors in the hut; and they fought for their lives to defeat the
leader. This scene is similar to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To explain, the film shows the better side of Buliwyf, the nobel and slightly more
nobleman side of him. It shows him fighting to protect his people of the kingdom.
In the poem, Beowulf is fighting for glory, fame, rewards or the ladies. He wants to
be self centered and he uses his abilities for his own well being, not for the good of
others. Another major difference between the poem and film is the plot. In the
poem, Beowulf went to the Danes land to defeat a monster named Grendel.
However, in the film, Buliwyf goes out to defeat a race, not a single being and its
mother, the race of wendols. Although the main characters are different in some
ways, the central idea never

Gas prices are increasing roughly every month or so as a result of the scarcity of
oil. Some people just shrug the price increase off and cope with it, but the
economic effect is far greater than it first appears. As the price of oil increases, so

opportunity for the United States to increase the supply of available crude oil by

(Dickinson) Even with advanced technology at our fingertips, there is the potential
for errors which could lead to oil spills. If a spill occurred in this region, the effects
could be detrimental to the ocean. Oil and gas industries have plenty of experience
and history of preventing oil spills, but they have little experience in containing
and cleaning up oil spills ( Oil ). With the possibility of polluting the water, the plan
for Arctic drilling loses the votes of all environmentalists, a group that is not to be
trifled with. If authorization to drill in this region relied upon the approval of the
environmentalists, it could be nearly impossible because of their strong lobbying
power. The drilling is also viewed as a diversion to the country s real dilemma,
which is its disproportionately high rate of oil use. Americans guzzle up over
twenty five percent of the world s total oil consumption. The United States should
be working on making vehicles more fuel efficient so that a gallon of oil goes a
long way rather than sucking the earth dry of all its oil. This fact, by itself, is seen
as a more pertinent problem on which the country should focus instead of increasing
available production. Another reason against the drilling in the Arctic region is that,
even if the drilling is approved, there may not be as large yield as expected. All the

PARAGRAPH1.The Sapir Whorf Hypothesis can change how people look at the
relationship between language and perception by introducing the principal of
linguistic relativity which states that the way language is structured can affect the

The encounters with Native Americans are a significant aspect of the literature of the
Early Americans. We can learn about both parties through the constant stereotypes
against the Native Americans by white people. These stereotypes impacted the culture
of society for future generations by making it look as though all Indians are bad
people with bad intentions. For example, the attempt to bring out the inner savagery
of the Indian culture. There are many stereotypes for example, the conversion of
Indians to another culture and forcing them to recognize the white culture as the
dominant culture over their native one. They had small chances of being accepted by
either society that they were born into or apart of. Finally, the miscegenation between
Native Americans and white people, or the intermarriage between cultures. The two
texts that I will be using to elaborate on this topic are, Hope Leslie by Catharine
Sedgwick and Edgar Huntly by Charles Brockden Brown. The stereotypes of Native
Americans in Early American literature have left an everlasting influence on the
American culture. The main theme in most of these stories try to bring out the inner
savagery of the Indian culture which is the most obvious stereotype seen in them. In
Edgar Huntly, this is seen the most in numerous occasions throughout the book.
When Edgar, the main character was very young his parents were killed by Indians

The beliefs and symbols illustrated in my mandala are positioned in a way that they

Brahman on the bottom of the mandala to show that it controls and connects to the
other four beliefs. Next, the belief of multiple gods will be placed on the right side
of Brahman because he is one of the many gods that the Hindus believe in. On the
other side of Brahman will be Dharma because they both have to do with balancing
society and the universe. On top of Dharma will be Karma. I will put it in this
position because Dharma affects your Karma. If you follow rules then your Karma
will be good, and if you don t follow the rules then your Karma won t be as good.
Lastly, Samsara will be placed next to Karma and Dharma. Samsara would be
placed next to these beliefs because your Karma is what you will receive or be like
in your next life. Dharma connects to Samsara because the release called Moksha
will be achieved if you follow certain spiritual and ritual practices to have a good
relation and personal experience with Gods. There are many other ways that all these
beliefs connect to each other, but the ways I just talked about relate to the illustrations

7 October 2011 Effects on Nurses Working Long Hours Patients in a hospital and
/or healthcare facilities have to be cared for all day and all night, everyday of the
week by nurses. The usual way to fulfill this need is to divide up the day into three
8 hour shifts. Different shifts have been put into place to help improve nurse
satisfaction, decrease the nursing shortage and save the hospital money. The 24
hour day is made up of two 12 hour shifts; 12 hours in the day and 12 hours at
night. There has been quite an ongoing debate over the years regarding this issue of
nurses working over 8 hours in a single day. Many people, such as hospital nursing

In addition, during the four days they have off, they may feel weak and dazed so
they will not be able to work a second part time job if wanted or be with their loved
ones. After working that many hours in such a short period of time, they would
need those four days off to compensate for the hard work they just endured. Health
care administrators argue that having only two shifts a day (day and night) will
help improve patient care because there would only be two nurses who would take
care of a patient during a 24 hour shift. But still, it takes more hired nurses to fill a
week s schedule to accommodate each 12 hour shift is covered because a nurse can
only work so many hours in a week. Annette Richardson claims that nurses who work
extended hour shifts will be less productive during the last 2 to 3 hours of their shift.
Signs of nurses being unproductive are; if he/she is taking a longer time to be with a
patient than necessary, not completing patient charts and not being thorough on
reports (Carson, 830). Nursing administration is there to help make patients and
nurses happy and healthy. Health care administration wants the most work
productivity as possible, and with having the last 3 hours of a nurse s shift being
unproductive will diminish that goal. Studies have shown that the most productive
work schedule is working an eight hour shift because it has the least number of errors
40. Social Inequalities Of Women s Rights
For centuries women have faced inequalities of all types. They faced social,
economic, and political injustices. There have been many instances through the years
of women speaking up for their rights, particularly in modern times. They have
organized conventions, participated in parades, and put themselves and their voices
out there. Despite the overwhelming opposition, they kept at it and slowly worked to
gain more and more rights. Though they have gained some, many believe they do not
have all that is due to them. Politically women have equal rights, while socially and
economically women are not.
Women have faced social inequalities for centuries and are constantly fighting for a
part in the discussion. Women were seen as servants to men, and this role was not
questioned until the 1830 s and 1840 s. They were to provide and raise the children
for their husbands. They were also to keep the home and keep them happy while
home. Often when trouble arose in a marriage, the burden was placed on the woman
to bear (Women s Roles). In the early 1800 s women began to work to slowly change
that attitude. For years women have faced the persecution of their voices. Sometimes
women spoke against their husbands. They said that they had been abused, and when
they said this, the statement was turned against them, and they took the blame. The
women claimed that men have worked to lessen the women s self respect and to
have women to lead a dependent life.(Mott) Men ran the family most, if

In the famous case of Suresh v Canada, Suresh was a Sri Lankan born Tamil. He first
came to Canada in the year 1990 and made a refugee claim based on fear of
persecution by the Sri Lankan government. He was also the supporter of the Tamil
tigers (a listed terrorist organization) and had done some fundraising for them in the
past. Minister of immigration filed a certificate under s.40.1 of the immigration act
saying that Suresh was inadmissible to Canada on security grounds. Suresh was
confined the next day. The certificate was mentioned to the Federal Court for
determination of whether it was rational, and the court approve the Ministers
decision. He was given a deportation hearing, and the board held that while Suresh
was not straightforward involved in terrorism, his membership in a terrorist group
was adequate grounds for extradition. Under s. 53(1)(b), the Minister gave notice to
Suresh that she was considering issuing an judgement that she well thought out him
to be a danger to the safety of Canada, which would permit the Minister to extradite
him despite the risk of torture. Accordingly, Suresh submitted composed and
narrative proof on this theme. A migration officer, Gautier, considered Suresh s
entries, and found that permitting Suresh to stay in Canada would run counter to
Canada s duties to battle against

Will ProCurve be able to thrive under the umbrella of TSG? Or should it stand on its
own within HP? Present the pros and cons of each option and then make a decision.
I believe that putting it with TSG is the best that they have done for it, but they
should put it on its own. If you look at Cisco and 3com, they show you how much
potential the market has and how much ProCurve has of that market. ProCurve
should stand on its own to be able to better monitor and to give the person
responsible for it his full focus. The pros of being a stand alone are: full focus
from the management on ProCurve products, separate sales team, marketing team,
R amp;D, etc., more entrepreneurial sprit. The Cons are that HP would compare it
to all the other larger departments and if it didn t perform as high as they did, they
might sell it like they previously were planning to do. The pros of being under
TSG is that ProCurve will not be compared to other departments, but rather the
whole TSG will be, this will show more revenue from that department and if
ProCurve didn t perform as well, it can be covered by other revenues. TSG can
allocate more things to ProCurve faster and decisions can be done faster and on a
smaller scale. The cons of being under TSG are that TSG can allocate things different
and not really give ProCurve the attention it needs to grow to its potential, Sales and
marketing
