Illegal Online Music Downloading, The Consequences For The...
The internet is one of the greatest and most significant inventions of the 20th century. It has become
the biggest data foundation to receive all kinds of information, particularly knowledge related to
education and improving one s skills. Downloads are needed in order to receive data from computer
networks which are remote systems, typically a server. Copyrighted content needs to have appropriate
permission to download it and without this permission doing so could constitute copyright
infringement. According to Towers (2011), on line piracy generally refers to sharing over the internet
copies of works that are not authorised or illegal downloading of software, movies, videogames and
music. Copyrighted works are distributed illicitly through Internet chat rooms, newsgroups and peer to
peer file trading networks. All of these kinds of internet copyright infringement are crimes that should
be punished by law. This essay will discuss illegal online music downloading, the consequences for
the music industry and artists, and will introduce two solutions in terms of the law in relation to this
issue. Finally, an evaluation of these solutions will be given.
Illegal music downloads have caused a massive fall in the sales and income of the labels and artists,
which has been driving them to bankruptcy quicker. According to Li (2015:20), mentions Each year,
the industry loses about $4.2 billion to piracy worldwide . Between 2000 and 2003, sales numbers fell
16% (Duenner, 2009). After

Michael Arlen Ode to Thanksgiving
MICHAEL ARLEN: ODE TO THANKSGIVING
It is time, at last, to speak the truth about Thanksgiving, and the truth is this. Thanksgiving is really
not such a terrific holiday. Consider the traditional symbols of the event: Dried corn husks hanging on
the door! Terrible wine! Cranberry jelly in little bowls of extremely doubtful provenance which
everyone is required to handle with the greatest of care! Consider the participants, the merrymakers:
men and women (also children) who have survived passably well throughout the years, mainly as a
result of living at considerable distances from their dear parents and beloved siblings, who on this
feast of feasts must apparently forgather (as if beckoned by an aberrant fairy godmother), ... Show

Uncle Bob s eyes roll wildly in his head, Billy Joe Quaglino throws his long bomb in the middle of
Grandpa Morris saying grace, Grandpa Morris speaking so low nobody can hear him, which is just as
well, since he is reciting what he can remember of his last union contract. And then, just as J. B.
(Speedy) Snood begins his ninety two yard punt return, Auntie Em starts dealing everyone second
helpings of her famous stuffing, as if she were pushing a controlled substance, which is well might be,
since there are no easily recognizable ingredients visible to the naked eye.
Consider for a moment the Thanksgiving meal itself. It has become a sort of refuge for endangered
species of starch: cauliflower, turnips, pumpkin, mince (whatever mince is), those blessed yams.
Bowls of luridly colored yams, with no taste at all, lying torpid under a lava flow of marshmallow!
And then the sacred turkey. One might as well try to construct a holiday repast around a fish say, a
nice piece of haddock. After all, turkey tastes very similar to haddock; same consistency, same quite
remarkable absence of flavor. But then, if the Thanksgiving piece de resistance were a nice piece of
boiled haddock instead of turkey, there wouldn t be all that fun for Dad when Mom hands him the
sterling silver , bone handled carving set (a wedding present from her parents and not sharpened since)
and then everyone sits around pretending not to watch while he saws and tears away at the bird as if

How Did Ancient Egypt s Relations With Foreign Power
To a great extent Egypt s relations changed with foreign powers from the eighteenth to the nineteenth
dynasties as Egyptian pharaohs adopted policies of diplomacy or military conquest. During the reign
of Amenhotep III Egypt s relations with foreign powers continued to be focused on diplomacy rather
than military conflict as Amenhotep sort to maintain peace and prosperity throughout the region. With
the accession of Akhenaten to the throne, Egypt s relations with foreign powers and its vassal s
changed dramatically with the rise of the expansionist Hittites and the decline of Mitanni. The
nineteenth dynasty saw a shift in Egypt s foreign policy with its neighbours, as Seti I sort to restore the
glory of Egypt and embarked on a campaign of expansionism ... Show more content on

The battle of Kadesh was the climax of hostilities between Egypt and Hittite, however, the battle
served as the end of Egyptian expansionism in Syria Palestine. In year twenty one of Ramesses reign
peace was achieved between Egypt and Hittite as evident from inscriptions at the Ramesseum, the
Hypostyle Hall at Karnak and a Hittite tablet at its capital, Hattusas. In contrast to the early part of
Ramesses reign, the quotation reflects the peace and prosperity experienced by both Egypt and Hittite
during this period and the stability that continued throughout the reign of Ramesses. The treaty led to
a formation of an alliance, a mutual defence pact and a promise of no further aggression. Trading
improved with the reopening of Phoenician ports and removal of barriers to the Euphrates brought
renewed trading opportunities. Diplomacy and marriages where used to maintain friendly relations
between the two sides. Gifts were exchanged and Nefertari and the Hittite queen Pudukhapa
exchanged correspondence and gifts of jewels as evident from letters. Further evident from letters is
that in year thirty four of his reign Ramesses married a Hittite princess to strengthen Egypt Hittite
relations. This was followed by another marriage to

Structuralism In Coach Carter
Structuralism is a philosophy that views society as composed of structures such as class and race that
shape our lives, making it challenging for all individuals to have access to equal opportunities. Thus, it
is focused on exposing these structures and investigating power, who has it, who doesn t and what we
can do to change this often by way of advocacy, actions, and campaigns, strive for social change (J.
Poole, personal communication, September 13, 2017).
Coach Carter is a sports drama based on a real life experience of a former Richmond High alumni and
basketball coach, Ken Carter, who became known in 1999 for benching his entire basketball team,
undefeated until that point for poor academic standing. It is though this film, but ... Show more

Without picking sides as to whether power is used to the benefit or disadvantage of students, Coach
Carter can be using his legitimate or socially prescribed power over his students to force the
cancellation of practice and the forfeiting of games (group dynamics). Yet, while Carter has power
over his players in this way, power is completed. Thus, individuals such as the school s principle or
the schools committee board members then have legitimate power over him as demonstrated by their
power to end the lockout. Adding to complicated nature of power, illustrated nicely by the film, power
may be to benefit or disadvantage a community, and to further complicate the matter such is often
determined or influenced by the perception of the individual(s) holding power.
One of the ways in which structuralists look to repair and/or bring attention to the imbalance of power
in society is through campaigns, social justice, actions and social change. Similarly, I believe it is
through an approach of advocacy and social change that the Coach not only looks to instill a sense of
belief and discipline in his players, but most importantly looked to change the narrative against the
kids of Richmond High School. A narrative made clear through sediments such as that made by
Principle Garrison, who at the beginning of the lockout states, ...so you take away basketball, the one

Romantic Love In The Hunger Games, By Suzanne Collins
North American media is known in many forms to include a romantic subplot between the main
protagonist and a major side character, underneath the main morals and plot the story conveys. These
romances in media, particularly films and novels, are uncreative and dissatisfying. They distract from
major events within the narrative and divert the reader s attention away from the author s message and
morals they are trying to impart. Also, the undermining of female characters is a major issue faced in
the writing of these romances into stories. Many narratives, though, may originally have good
intentions with the insertion of a relationship, but society s glamorisation of romantic love holds them
on a pedestal until they ve turned stale, so in turn ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The romance in a fiction becomes the main question in social outlets and frequent questions like Team
Peeta or Team Gale from The Hunger Games fans arise. As a society we hypersexualise and
romanticise our media, so a story like The Hunger Games theme is ironically missed. This trilogy,
written by Suzanne Collins, revolves around Katniss and her society s yearly ritual to force children to
kill each other in a so called entertaining way, with media coverage. Katniss too, falls in love with a
boy, and they manage to survive a reaping together. The characters are glamorised by the media within
the book, ignoring the deaths of children, as Suzanne Collins tries to hint to real society what the
media does. Immediately, the story took off and the love triangle popularised within the book became
real, and media outlets ask fans the same question, ignoring the ideologies the author provided. The
relationship within this narrative stood for an important point within the plot of the story, negating
previous arguments and not in itself disappointing, yet media distorts it, turning it into a dissatisfying
love triangle. The major fault in media s coverage of these relationships is it falls in line with both
aforementioned faults of romance in novels, how it clouds the author s morals and intentions of
writing, and with this engrossment in a single point, the media doesn t only demean the female
characters, but any character, as the only involvement of characters in discussion is who they are in a
relationship

Analysis Of Arend s Patterns Of Democracy
Arend Lljphart wrote Patterns of Democracy. It examines the forms and performance of governments
in thirty six countries. Seventeen chapters have been written in the book. Below, there will be a critical
review of a claim or a particular theory in each of the first seven chapters on its merits. Chapter one is
an introduction of what is to come. It claims that there are two models of governing the majoritarian
model and the consensus model. In a majoritarian model, a governing body will seek to satisfy a will
from a bare majority and sometimes a wish of a plurality of a governed body. Alternatively, a
governing body will seek to form a consensus in which it seeks to fulfill wishes of as many people as
possible. Mr. Lljphart failed to point a potential third model. Even in a democracy, it is possible for a
government to listen the wishes of a minority and attempt to convince the majority that the minority
has a point here. A following chapter is titled the westminster model of democracy. As the author
noted, this is basically another name for the majoritarian model. It is unclear why the author felt there
is a need to dedicate a chapter to this. That being said, he effectively named three countries that fits
this category. Furthermore, Mr. Lljphart listed the ten characteristics of the model and how the three
countries (England, New Zealand and Barbadoes), comply and deviate from the model as well as any
qualification that needs to be made. It could have been even

Diversity In Children s Literature
I believe that books have one of the greatest influences on children when they are growing up. There
are many different genres of books and they all have something different to teach and offer to
children. For example, picture books and fictional stories spark imagination in children and teach
them creativity while, non fiction and stories incorporating diversity, teach children about a certain
topic and help broaden their horizons. Keeping the importance of all the different genres of books in
mind, I chose two articles from the Journal of Children s Literature pertaining to this subject. The
name of the first article I read is, Drawing Stories, Writing Pictures: Reading and Composing
Multimodally in Storying Studio, written by Prisca Martens. This article discusses the significance of
picturebooks and how the illustrations enhance the writing and make the stories come alive. Martens
also mentions a project that she is working on called, Storying Studio. According to Martens, Storying

Koss. This article discussed the highlights of the 2015 Children s Literature Assembly, which focussed
mostly on the need and importance of books revolving around and about diversity. The article
mentioned that all children need to be able to see themselves represented in books. If a child can not
find a book that they relate to or feel represented in, it can have a negative impact on their self image.
When a child reads a book and can see themselves in a character, it shows the child that they are not
alone and that there are other people just like them. The article mentioned that diversity in books is
crucial because it teaches children about other people and their different situations. Books featuring
diversity also makes sure that children read out of their comfort

Essay on Robert Ressler Coined the Term Serial Killer
We serial killers are your sons, we are your husbands, we are everywhere. And there will be more of
your children dead tomorrow. (Ted Bundy). Serial killers are not always those people that look like
monsters or behave in strangeous ways. Sometimes they are the successful people, the ones that have
a family and a job. The term Serial Killer was first coined by Robert Ressler, former director of the
FBI s Violent Criminal Apprehension Program. Serial killers are often defined as people that kill two
or more people over a period of more than 30 days with cooling off periods between each kill. Many
historical criminologists suggest that serial killing has been a component of society since the
beginning; suggesting that old stories ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The triad includes fire setting, animal cruelty, and enuresis (bed wetting). A highly debate issue around
serial killers is the reason behind their actions. Although many theories exist about the reason why
serial killers act the way they do, the most common theory is that they are searching for some type of
psychological satisfaction. A very common theory behind the reason of the actions of serial killers is
the social control theory. This theory states that serial killers behave the way they do due to their
inability to cope and adapt to society. Another well known theory is the neutralization theory. This
theory states that murderers sometimes move from an invisible baseline and commit illegal actions
while sometimes moving back and acting in a conventional way. The last theory is the labeling theory.
This theory, created by Erving Goffman, states that people act the way they do due to the labels that
society has created for them. Therefore, if a kid is labeled as a troublemaker at a very young age, it is
more likely that he will continue with this behavior through adulthood. From Ted Bundy to BTK to
the Zodiac Killer , serial killers have been around the United States for a long time, but none is better
than Richard Chase, or better known as the Vampire of Sacramento , to investigate the reasons behind
serial killers. Born on May 23, 1950, Chase was raised in a very strict house and was constantly
abused by his parents. As a

Police Officer Training And Law Enforcement
Police officer training is a vital component to the safety of the citizens that the officers are sworn to
protect and the laws that they are sworn to uphold. Police officer training doesn t start when the officer
is out in the field, it begins way before that. Training, you can say, begins at a young age, especially
for those that want to pursue a career in law enforcement. Once the decision is made to follow a law
enforcement path then all of that person s efforts should be applied to what needs to be done. Studies
that have been conducted show statistics on the numbers of people in academies and what they are
trained in. Other studies show the interaction between police and citizens. They also show the type of
personnel, the policies, and the practices that are followed. The articles that are being presented will
review the training that an officer should receive from admittance in a police academy and throughout
their career in law enforcement. The articles will focus on various aspects such as training, contacts
with citizens, complaints on officers about the use of force, racial differences, and practices. All of
them have something to do with officer training or the lack there of and all should be taken into
consideration by an officer.
Actual physical and application training begins in the academy and then out in the streets. Officer
training is important and an officer needs to put forth the effort to learn as much as possible to make
them a better officer. Not so

Essay about The Odyssey
The life of a God, forever bliss, complete happiness: Odysseus slights all of these things in order for
him to return to his loving wife and son. The concept of true commitment was a very commendable
quality for a Greek hero to possess. With this character trait, Odysseus models the ideal husband,
father, and leader. Unfortunately, in today s society, one rarely encounters such outstanding morality.
Being raised in an explicit society, a decrease in certain morals has become fashionable. In particular,
the college experience has become accepted as the wild times of one s life. Certain activities ordinarily
shunned are now perceived as a learning experience when involving a college student. Drugs and
alcohol abuse are commonplace around ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But let him have no company, gods or men,
Only a raft that he must lash together,
And after twenty days, worn out at sea,
He shall make land upon the garden aisle. (263)
This edict of Zeus summarizes the journey Odysseus makes in order to return home. He endures dire
hardships to make the journey home, yet he still chooses to continue forward. Although Odysseus
accepts this hardship as a mere speed bump, many people today would not prevail through such
adversity. A knack for finding the easy way out has seemed to blossom as the one uniform skill
possessed by most young people today. With today s technology, a person rarely spends an afternoon
by himself, and if so, would not like it. With this in mind, choosing to continue on with the journey in
present times would be much harder of a decision to make than in ancient times.
Another problem around school campuses is the growing rate of alcohol and drug abuse amongst
students. Extreme marijuana usage has taken claim to many victims. The drug may not kill the person
using it, but it does kill motivation. The drug becomes a part of the user s life, and the user will
eventually become lethargic. This lethargy continues to increase until most productive activities are
eliminated. Although Odysseus s crew did not have marijuana on their ship, his crew did encounter a
drug that posed a similar threat. Odysseus explains the drug, but those who ate this honeyed plant, the

Argumentative Speech On Gas Prices
How many of you have ever sat down and thought hmm I wonder what causes gas prices to fluctuate.
There is always someone wondering what gas prices may look like five years from now. In 1998 gas
cost Americans less than one dollar a gallon, which would be less than $15 to fill up if your car
required a 15 gallon tank. As Americans, we are known to fear the fluctuation of gas prices, because
we are human. As an average American living in poverty, it becomes quite frightening to think of
rising gas prices. I wonder sometimes if I would be able to afford to put gas in my car to travel to and
from school and work on a weekly basis. Here s a quote they [OPEC] want to go in and raise the
prices of oil because we have nobody in Washington that sits back and says you re not going to raise

fluctuate but may have never been property informed on the real reasons why. Here are three reasons I

Misogyny Reoccurs In Candide
Voltaire, the pen name of François Marie Arouet, was very creative in his way of outing the pure
ridiculousness of the ideas and morals of 18th century Europeans. In the mid 1700 s, Voltaire penned
the adventures of Candide s quest to find his love, and how his innocence is corrupted along the way.
Candide possesses many main ideas, including misogyny, the exploitation of women, the unholy acts
that holy men perform, and the fatal flaws of optimism, which leads me to believe that 18th century
Europe was doomed to a fate of death, terror, and violence.
The theme of misogyny reoccurs throughout the entire story of Candide and scenes of violence and
the rape of women imply that these were common occurrences at this time. As Candide deserts ...

becomes a friend of Candide s and tells him that she is the daughter of Pope Urban the Tenth and the

promise by having a child. The fact that the highest figure of authority in the Catholic faith sinned by
corrupts his vow of chastity conveys the message that nobody can be completely pure and honest. At
the inn where Candide, Cunegonde, and the old woman stay while escaping punishment for killing the

ironically breaks this promise by stealing the gold and jewels from Cunegonde. This man who
promised to live in poverty sins when he falls into the trap of thinking money equals happiness and
becomes a thief. Voltaire proves that no matter who you are, sinning is inevitable; religion is shown to
be full of hypocrisy as many religious authorities in Candide go against what they claim to believe

The seatbelt laws are in a lot of different states and there is a variety of people that could die from not

Minecraft And Lego Similarities
Have you ever wondered how Minecraft and LEGO s originated? There are many similarities and
differences between how these two toys originated. Here are some similarities. Minecraft was a one
man project. Markus Persson Is the man who created it. When you look at LEGO s two people made
it. It was a man and his son. This is a similarity because if you take FIFA 14 for example in was made
by over 9,000 people! Another similarity between the two games is both were remarkably successful.
How I know this is because more than four hundred billion lego blocks have been made according to
400 billion LEGO bricks and still counting (As of 2014). Where as Minecraft has had over 100
million people sign in, according to Minecraft Mania (As of 2014). The last similarity is there are no
rules no limits for either of these toys. In both you are free to imagine and create. No rules no limits
just fun and creations. Now do you see the similarities of Minecraft and LEGO s? ... Show more

The stories of how they started were way different. LEGO started with a man making toys out of
wood. Then he got more elaborate as time went on, his son help with this too and he eventually
created LEGO s. On the other hand however Markus started to make a video game. He worked on it in
his apartment. After he finished it his new game became known as Minecraft. The second difference is
that Minecraft is played on a device. You can play Minecraft on any type of device Ipad, Ipod, Iphone,
Kindle, computer ext. LEGO s can be physically touched. You actually have to physically put the
LEGO s together. The last and final difference is Lego s failed the first time they came out. In 400

hand however Minecraft was popular as soon as it came out. As soon as people new it was there it was

Strengths And Weaknesses Of Religion Research
Religious truths can be revealed in different ways such as through symbolic language, images, and
statements. God is believed to be much greater than we can possibly imagine, as defined by
philosopher Anselm (1033 1109) That which nothing greater can be conceived . It can be difficult to
use our own language as a way of describing God and his attributes. The complexity of talking about
God is shown in the quote, God can be thought about more truly than he can be talked about, and he is
more truly than he can be thought about (De Trinitate On the Trinity ). In my discussion I will put
forward different approaches of Aquinas, Ramsey, Maimonides and other philosophers to evaluate the
strengths and weaknesses of symbolic language about God
Religious language is either analogical or equivocal. Thomas Aquinas and Ian Ramsey believed the
analogical approach and thought there were similarities between the words we use in ordinary
language and the words we use to describe God. Aquinas recognised that words do not have the same
meaning when applied to God being infinite, but are univocal to a certain extent. As there is a true
correspondence. E.g. God is good , we can understand what this means from our understanding of
good although it might not be as great. With this, Aquinas then developed his theory of proportion.
Within which he recognises that statements about God are qualitatively greater than statements about
humans. Although his theory does seem to suggest that our

Poseidon s Role In Greek Mythology
Poseidon and Neptune Swish! Swish! Oh that is probably Poseidon or Neptune calling. Poseidon and
Neptune are very important to mythology today, both to the Greek, and the Roman side. According to
Poseidon, a book written by Blake A. Horna, in Greek mythology, Poseidon is the god of the sea, and
in Roman mythology, it is Neptune. Although they are very different, some minor similarities between
Neptune, and Poseidon are very clear. In Greek mythology, Poseidon is known to be the god of the
sea. Poseidon was the son of Cronus and Rhea, and they had a total of six children. Cronus was known
to be the father that ended up swallowing up all his children. Poseidon also had many powers, and
used them all mostly in good. He had the power to produce earthquakes, and he did produce them
when he wanted too. Poseidon was also only scared of his brother Zeus, whom was the god of the sky.
He just looked up to his brother, and seemed to overall be afraid of him in ways. Overall, Poseidon
was a great Greek god, was one of the sons of Cronus, and also had many great powers that allowed
him to do things that were not normal for a human too do. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Neptune was the son of Saturn, and he ended up defeating his father later on in life. Neptune fell in
love with a water nymph named Amphrite, and chose to marry her. He proposed, and she rejected, and
that made Neptune upset, so he used his powers. He sent his dolphin out to go find her, and ask her
again, and that did the trick. Amphrite married Neptune, and they had a son named Triton. Triton was

Neptune defeated his father Saturn, fell in love with his wife Amphrite, whom actually rejected him

Comparing The Matrix And Back To The Future
In my cross analysis of my four chosen films, a connection I believed was worth examining was the
connection between Wachowski s The Matrix and Robert Zemeckis s Back to the Future part 2. What
connected the two films was that the directors used advanced scientific concepts in order to grasp the
audience s attention. The Matrix was based on the theoretical concept that the world we see, the things
we do and the feelings we embrace are merely chemical impulses, which are being harvested in order
to power a world controlled by artificial intelligence. However, Back to the Future is based on the
concept of time travel. In The Matrix, the science idea is thrown at us when Morpheus says This is
your last chance. After this, there is no turning ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The future has been interpreted in so many ways by science fiction novelists and directors alike.
Different depictions of the future can be observed between Richard Marquand s Return of the Jedi and
Robert Zemeckis s Back to the Future part 2. Richard Marquand s picture of the future is quite dark
and oppressive, where all the good people of the world are deemed outlaws by injustice, while Robert
Zemeckis s picture of the future is quite uplifting in comparison to Marquand s picture of the future.
Although Return of the Jedi is set a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away it is still deemed futuristic,
due to the use and constant development of advanced technology throughout the Star Wars series, all
star wars movies are deemed as futuristic. The Return of the Jedi is based on the idea of a futuristic
dictatorship, where justice is rarely served, and where anyone who rebels against the dark side is as
good as dead. This is shown by a quote from the emperor As you can see, my young apprentice, your
friends have failed. Now witness the firepower of this fully armed and operational battle station! This
quote shows that the emperor is indeed ruthless and will fire upon a small fleet of ships in a hopeless
to instil fear in the mind of Luke Skywalker. This example of the future shows that when power is put
into the wrong hands, a society can fall and crumble around their new emperor. However, in Back to
the Future, the future is a place where justice systems work efficiently, very little stress is put on the
minds of the people of Hill Valley, and people are able to live free, happy lives. Where Return of the
Jedi s futuristic technology (the death star) is used as a weapon of mass destruction, Back to the Future
s futuristic technology (the flying car) is purpose built to make life easier for the individuals within
their society. Although we get to see very little of the future in Zemeckis s

Ryan Bailey Patterson s Resistance And Resilience
In Ryan bailey Patterson s article, Resistance and Resilience Patterson discusses the impact that
politicalized art can have on a movement. Patterson articulates her argument by first giving historical
context to the violent phenomena and then explaining the impact that politicalized art had on the anti
feminicide movement in Cuidad Juarez as the art functioned as a communicator between the women
of Cuidad Juarez and the outside world. The art not only communicated the problem in the city but
helped give context to the problem and excited enough emotion in the outside party to transform the
grassroots movement into a transnational movement. Through a wide range of evidence, Patterson
supports the idea that politicalized art is an effective way to create social awareness of a social ...

Theme Of A Chimney Sweeper And We Wear The Mask
Two stories with the same storyline, but a different outcome in both. They portray their timelines
perfectly; the two stories are William Blake s A Chimney Sweeper and Paul Laurence Dunbar s We
Wear the Mask . The two come from similar backgrounds of hard times, but have different outlooks on

from a time where kids grew up quickly and lived in a dangerous time. One hid their emotions while
the other had a dream and rethought their whole situation and realized that life was not that bad at all.
The setting of both these stories, or theme, starts out mostly depressing, and Chimney Sweeper it gets

In the context of the foreign policy, the US presence in the Middle East and democracy oriented

critical and strategically important, lobby s task is to influence not only the US government but also

Chapter One Of Paris France
Chapter One
Paris France, 1888 Darkness. As Robin Cahun awoke from his slumber, that s all he felt...darkness. As
he opened his eyes, he saw the morning light flowing through the drawn curtains and wondered just
how long he had been out of it? Where was he? How did he get here? As he pulled the covers off of
his naked body, he couldn t remember anything about the night before. What was even more
frightening was that he could remember anything from the last week. The last thing Robin could recall
was walking past the construction site of the controversial Eiffel Tower on his way to his apartment,
and that was a week ago. Had he drunk that much that he couldn t remember anything? He never
drank that much. Yet, as he swung his legs out of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

hazel eyes still pulled the attraction of any woman he came into contact with. After finally stumbling
into the bathroom, he pulled himself closer to the mirror over the sink trying to see the cause of the
blood on his neck. After wiping his neck with a wet cloth, he seen the cause clearly; two holes, almost
an inch apart from each other, were perfectly placed on the side of his neck. What the hell happened

Robin shook himself out of the memory. Looking out his penthouse suite window over modern day

That day, he became a creature of folklore shown only in scary movies and spoken of only in secret;

Causes Of Unemployment In Nigeria
Unemployment in some cases is not an individual problem. While some may think that unemployment
is always the beholders fault, in Nigeria however, it is quite the contrary. Raw data and statistics can
show exactly why a country has an unemployment problem. Along with that, causes of unemployment
can be significant to why unemployment is such a critical problem. Even more, the effects of
unemployment hint to the future of any country that struggles with this. With all of this in mind, one
must wonder how much unemployment really affects a country. Sometimes, the cold hard facts will
provide better evidence to why unemployment is more of a problem than some realize. Statistics can
be just as vital to understanding the problem of unemployment. Nigerian unemployment rate has
skyrocketed from 10.4% in the last quarter of 2015 to 14.2% in the respective last quarter in 2016.
That is an increase of 3.8% which is the highest job spike since 2009 ( Nigeria Unemployment Rate
P.1.). 3.8% may not seem like a lot, but since Nigeria has a population of 192 million (10/31/17)
(Nigeria Population LIVE P.1), 7,296,000 became unemployed, making the total amount of people
unemployed 27,264,000. In the previous quarter, the jobless rate was 13.9 percent. Unemployment
Rate in Nigeria averaged 9.76 percent from 2006 until 2016, reaching an all time high of 19.70
percent in the fourth quarter of 2009 and a record low of 5.10 percent in the fourth quarter of 2010 (

The Four Styles Of Learning By Honey And Mumford

we can have many learning styles. According to Honey and Mumford there are four major styles of
learning as follows Activists, Reflectors, Theorists and Pragmatists.
Activists are the people who a re risk takers and they like experimenting new things and doing the
work based on trial and error method. For instance when a student learns a new chemical formula in a
chemistry class, he would be more enthusiastic to do the experiment at home and see what the result
is. He would take the risk to do the experiment at home irrespective of what the result of it was to be

As we grew up, and got into a more understanding stage as a kid, we always have questioned
everything that comes new to us, with the, five W s, (when, where, why, who and what). We

teenage years, we think our main goal in life is to, go to school, graduate, school again, graduate and

new people, drama and other struggling situations. Life is not easy because many things come one it.
Watching The Matrix gave me a real life lesson and made me more open minded about life that can

doubting, taking revenge and taking a new path into your life. Self doubting makes us feel unwanted
and unbelieving on your self when it comes to any situation. Taking revenge only takes place when
somebody is mad at one another by mostly being jealous. Taking a new path may be a start to
something better, and start understanding what you re here for. In The Matrix , Morpheus finds Neo

The word in general has no other use but to refer to a black person, in a complete derogatory way, and
if everyone s equal why is the word used, when it s main reason is to differentiate one race from
another offensively? We have indirectly given a pass to a lot of people to just say it and sing along,
and it s confusing why only some see this as a problem. (Thompson) The word isn t in the dictionary
for it s good name, it s in there to show the negative image it once held strongly against black people.
The shackles had been taken off the ankles and wrapped around the mind. And she would say that we
were continuing the oppressors work, to put it another way, black people fought for equality for the
longest, and now in the 21st century, the use of the word nigger is repeating the words and
discrimination black people worked so hard to overcome. (Thompson) All in all, nigger is throwing
salt to the wounds to black people who faced oppression, not only do white people say it minorities do
also, and that s not right there s no redefying this word and there should be no hope of doing so, the
word needs to vanish and be forgotten, just like how people want slavery to be

  • 2. Illegal Online Music Downloading, The Consequences For The... The internet is one of the greatest and most significant inventions of the 20th century. It has become the biggest data foundation to receive all kinds of information, particularly knowledge related to education and improving one s skills. Downloads are needed in order to receive data from computer networks which are remote systems, typically a server. Copyrighted content needs to have appropriate permission to download it and without this permission doing so could constitute copyright infringement. According to Towers (2011), on line piracy generally refers to sharing over the internet copies of works that are not authorised or illegal downloading of software, movies, videogames and music. Copyrighted works are distributed illicitly through Internet chat rooms, newsgroups and peer to peer file trading networks. All of these kinds of internet copyright infringement are crimes that should be punished by law. This essay will discuss illegal online music downloading, the consequences for the music industry and artists, and will introduce two solutions in terms of the law in relation to this issue. Finally, an evaluation of these solutions will be given. Illegal music downloads have caused a massive fall in the sales and income of the labels and artists, which has been driving them to bankruptcy quicker. According to Li (2015:20), mentions Each year, the industry loses about $4.2 billion to piracy worldwide . Between 2000 and 2003, sales numbers fell 16% (Duenner, 2009). After ... • 3. Michael Arlen Ode to Thanksgiving MICHAEL ARLEN: ODE TO THANKSGIVING It is time, at last, to speak the truth about Thanksgiving, and the truth is this. Thanksgiving is really not such a terrific holiday. Consider the traditional symbols of the event: Dried corn husks hanging on the door! Terrible wine! Cranberry jelly in little bowls of extremely doubtful provenance which everyone is required to handle with the greatest of care! Consider the participants, the merrymakers: men and women (also children) who have survived passably well throughout the years, mainly as a result of living at considerable distances from their dear parents and beloved siblings, who on this feast of feasts must apparently forgather (as if beckoned by an aberrant fairy godmother), ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Uncle Bob s eyes roll wildly in his head, Billy Joe Quaglino throws his long bomb in the middle of Grandpa Morris saying grace, Grandpa Morris speaking so low nobody can hear him, which is just as well, since he is reciting what he can remember of his last union contract. And then, just as J. B. (Speedy) Snood begins his ninety two yard punt return, Auntie Em starts dealing everyone second helpings of her famous stuffing, as if she were pushing a controlled substance, which is well might be, since there are no easily recognizable ingredients visible to the naked eye. Consider for a moment the Thanksgiving meal itself. It has become a sort of refuge for endangered species of starch: cauliflower, turnips, pumpkin, mince (whatever mince is), those blessed yams. Bowls of luridly colored yams, with no taste at all, lying torpid under a lava flow of marshmallow! And then the sacred turkey. One might as well try to construct a holiday repast around a fish say, a nice piece of haddock. After all, turkey tastes very similar to haddock; same consistency, same quite remarkable absence of flavor. But then, if the Thanksgiving piece de resistance were a nice piece of boiled haddock instead of turkey, there wouldn t be all that fun for Dad when Mom hands him the sterling silver , bone handled carving set (a wedding present from her parents and not sharpened since) and then everyone sits around pretending not to watch while he saws and tears away at the bird as if he were ... How Did Ancient Egypt s Relations With Foreign Power To a great extent Egypt s relations changed with foreign powers from the eighteenth to the nineteenth dynasties as Egyptian pharaohs adopted policies of diplomacy or military conquest. During the reign of Amenhotep III Egypt s relations with foreign powers continued to be focused on diplomacy rather than military conflict as Amenhotep sort to maintain peace and prosperity throughout the region. With the accession of Akhenaten to the throne, Egypt s relations with foreign powers and its vassal s changed dramatically with the rise of the expansionist Hittites and the decline of Mitanni. The nineteenth dynasty saw a shift in Egypt s foreign policy with its neighbours, as Seti I sort to restore the glory of Egypt and embarked on a campaign of expansionism ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The battle of Kadesh was the climax of hostilities between Egypt and Hittite, however, the battle served as the end of Egyptian expansionism in Syria Palestine. In year twenty one of Ramesses reign peace was achieved between Egypt and Hittite as evident from inscriptions at the Ramesseum, the Hypostyle Hall at Karnak and a Hittite tablet at its capital, Hattusas. In contrast to the early part of Ramesses reign, the quotation reflects the peace and prosperity experienced by both Egypt and Hittite during this period and the stability that continued throughout the reign of Ramesses. The treaty led to a formation of an alliance, a mutual defence pact and a promise of no further aggression. Trading improved with the reopening of Phoenician ports and removal of barriers to the Euphrates brought renewed trading opportunities. Diplomacy and marriages where used to maintain friendly relations between the two sides. Gifts were exchanged and Nefertari and the Hittite queen Pudukhapa exchanged correspondence and gifts of jewels as evident from letters. Further evident from letters is that in year thirty four of his reign Ramesses married a Hittite princess to strengthen Egypt Hittite relations. This was followed by another marriage to ... • 5. Structuralism In Coach Carter Structuralism is a philosophy that views society as composed of structures such as class and race that shape our lives, making it challenging for all individuals to have access to equal opportunities. Thus, it is focused on exposing these structures and investigating power, who has it, who doesn t and what we can do to change this often by way of advocacy, actions, and campaigns, strive for social change (J. Poole, personal communication, September 13, 2017). Coach Carter is a sports drama based on a real life experience of a former Richmond High alumni and basketball coach, Ken Carter, who became known in 1999 for benching his entire basketball team, undefeated until that point for poor academic standing. It is though this film, but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Without picking sides as to whether power is used to the benefit or disadvantage of students, Coach Carter can be using his legitimate or socially prescribed power over his students to force the cancellation of practice and the forfeiting of games (group dynamics). Yet, while Carter has power over his players in this way, power is completed. Thus, individuals such as the school s principle or the schools committee board members then have legitimate power over him as demonstrated by their power to end the lockout. Adding to complicated nature of power, illustrated nicely by the film, power may be to benefit or disadvantage a community, and to further complicate the matter such is often determined or influenced by the perception of the individual(s) holding power. One of the ways in which structuralists look to repair and/or bring attention to the imbalance of power in society is through campaigns, social justice, actions and social change. Similarly, I believe it is through an approach of advocacy and social change that the Coach not only looks to instill a sense of belief and discipline in his players, but most importantly looked to change the narrative against the kids of Richmond High School. A narrative made clear through sediments such as that made by Principle Garrison, who at the beginning of the lockout states, ...so you take away basketball, the one area in their lives where ... • 6. Romantic Love In The Hunger Games, By Suzanne Collins North American media is known in many forms to include a romantic subplot between the main protagonist and a major side character, underneath the main morals and plot the story conveys. These romances in media, particularly films and novels, are uncreative and dissatisfying. They distract from major events within the narrative and divert the reader s attention away from the author s message and morals they are trying to impart. Also, the undermining of female characters is a major issue faced in the writing of these romances into stories. Many narratives, though, may originally have good intentions with the insertion of a relationship, but society s glamorisation of romantic love holds them on a pedestal until they ve turned stale, so in turn ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The romance in a fiction becomes the main question in social outlets and frequent questions like Team Peeta or Team Gale from The Hunger Games fans arise. As a society we hypersexualise and romanticise our media, so a story like The Hunger Games theme is ironically missed. This trilogy, written by Suzanne Collins, revolves around Katniss and her society s yearly ritual to force children to kill each other in a so called entertaining way, with media coverage. Katniss too, falls in love with a boy, and they manage to survive a reaping together. The characters are glamorised by the media within the book, ignoring the deaths of children, as Suzanne Collins tries to hint to real society what the media does. Immediately, the story took off and the love triangle popularised within the book became real, and media outlets ask fans the same question, ignoring the ideologies the author provided. The relationship within this narrative stood for an important point within the plot of the story, negating previous arguments and not in itself disappointing, yet media distorts it, turning it into a dissatisfying love triangle. The major fault in media s coverage of these relationships is it falls in line with both aforementioned faults of romance in novels, how it clouds the author s morals and intentions of writing, and with this engrossment in a single point, the media doesn t only demean the female characters, but any character, as the only involvement of characters in discussion is who they are in a relationship ... • 7. Analysis Of Arend s Patterns Of Democracy Arend Lljphart wrote Patterns of Democracy. It examines the forms and performance of governments in thirty six countries. Seventeen chapters have been written in the book. Below, there will be a critical review of a claim or a particular theory in each of the first seven chapters on its merits. Chapter one is an introduction of what is to come. It claims that there are two models of governing the majoritarian model and the consensus model. In a majoritarian model, a governing body will seek to satisfy a will from a bare majority and sometimes a wish of a plurality of a governed body. Alternatively, a governing body will seek to form a consensus in which it seeks to fulfill wishes of as many people as possible. Mr. Lljphart failed to point a potential third model. Even in a democracy, it is possible for a government to listen the wishes of a minority and attempt to convince the majority that the minority has a point here. A following chapter is titled the westminster model of democracy. As the author noted, this is basically another name for the majoritarian model. It is unclear why the author felt there is a need to dedicate a chapter to this. That being said, he effectively named three countries that fits this category. Furthermore, Mr. Lljphart listed the ten characteristics of the model and how the three countries (England, New Zealand and Barbadoes), comply and deviate from the model as well as any qualification that needs to be made. • 8. Diversity In Children s Literature I believe that books have one of the greatest influences on children when they are growing up. There are many different genres of books and they all have something different to teach and offer to children. For example, picture books and fictional stories spark imagination in children and teach them creativity while, non fiction and stories incorporating diversity, teach children about a certain topic and help broaden their horizons. Keeping the importance of all the different genres of books in mind, I chose two articles from the Journal of Children s Literature pertaining to this subject. The name of the first article I read is, Drawing Stories, Writing Pictures: Reading and Composing Multimodally in Storying Studio, written by Prisca Martens. This article discusses the significance of picturebooks and how the illustrations enhance the writing and make the stories come alive. Martens also mentions a project that she is working on called, Storying Studio. According to Martens, Storying Studio honors and values multiple ways of composing meaning, ... This article discussed the highlights of the 2015 Children s Literature Assembly, which focussed mostly on the need and importance of books revolving around and about diversity. The article mentioned that all children need to be able to see themselves represented in books. If a child can not find a book that they relate to or feel represented in, it can have a negative impact on their self image. When a child reads a book and can see themselves in a character, it shows the child that they are not alone and that there are other people just like them. The article mentioned that diversity in books is crucial because it teaches children about other people and their different situations. • 9. Essay on Robert Ressler Coined the Term Serial Killer We serial killers are your sons, we are your husbands, we are everywhere. And there will be more of your children dead tomorrow. (Ted Bundy). Serial killers are not always those people that look like monsters or behave in strangeous ways. Sometimes they are the successful people, the ones that have a family and a job. The term Serial Killer was first coined by Robert Ressler, former director of the FBI s Violent Criminal Apprehension Program. Serial killers are often defined as people that kill two or more people over a period of more than 30 days with cooling off periods between each kill. Many historical criminologists suggest that serial killing has been a component of society since the beginning; suggesting that old stories ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The triad includes fire setting, animal cruelty, and enuresis (bed wetting). A highly debate issue around serial killers is the reason behind their actions. Although many theories exist about the reason why serial killers act the way they do, the most common theory is that they are searching for some type of psychological satisfaction. A very common theory behind the reason of the actions of serial killers is the social control theory. This theory states that serial killers behave the way they do due to their inability to cope and adapt to society. Another well known theory is the neutralization theory. This theory states that murderers sometimes move from an invisible baseline and commit illegal actions while sometimes moving back and acting in a conventional way. The last theory is the labeling theory. This theory, created by Erving Goffman, states that people act the way they do due to the labels that society has created for them. Therefore, if a kid is labeled as a troublemaker at a very young age, it is more likely that he will continue with this behavior through adulthood. From Ted Bundy to BTK to the Zodiac Killer , serial killers have been around the United States for a long time, but none is better than Richard Chase, or better known as the Vampire of Sacramento , to investigate the reasons behind serial killers. Born on May 23, 1950, Chase was raised in a very strict house and was constantly abused by his parents. As a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Police Officer Training And Law Enforcement Police officer training is a vital component to the safety of the citizens that the officers are sworn to protect and the laws that they are sworn to uphold. Police officer training doesn t start when the officer is out in the field, it begins way before that. Training, you can say, begins at a young age, especially for those that want to pursue a career in law enforcement. Once the decision is made to follow a law enforcement path then all of that person s efforts should be applied to what needs to be done. Studies that have been conducted show statistics on the numbers of people in academies and what they are trained in. Other studies show the interaction between police and citizens. They also show the type of personnel, the policies, and the practices that are followed. The articles that are being presented will review the training that an officer should receive from admittance in a police academy and throughout their career in law enforcement. The articles will focus on various aspects such as training, contacts with citizens, complaints on officers about the use of force, racial differences, and practices. All of them have something to do with officer training or the lack there of and all should be taken into consideration by an officer. Actual physical and application training begins in the academy and then out in the streets. Officer training is important and an officer needs to put forth the effort to learn as much as possible to make them a better officer. Not so ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The concept of true commitment was a very commendable quality for a Greek hero to possess. With this character trait, Odysseus models the ideal husband, father, and leader. Unfortunately, in today s society, one rarely encounters such outstanding morality. Being raised in an explicit society, a decrease in certain morals has become fashionable. Although Odysseus accepts this hardship as a mere speed bump, many people today would not prevail through such adversity. A knack for finding the easy way out has seemed to blossom as the one uniform skill possessed by most young people today. With today s technology, a person rarely spends an afternoon by himself, and if so, would not like it. With this in mind, choosing to continue on with the journey in present times would be much harder of a decision to make than in ancient times. Another problem around school campuses is the growing rate of alcohol and drug abuse amongst students. Extreme marijuana usage has taken claim to many victims. The drug may not kill the person using it, but it does kill motivation. The drug becomes a part of the user s life, and the user will eventually become lethargic. • 23. Strengths And Weaknesses Of Religion Research Religious truths can be revealed in different ways such as through symbolic language, images, and statements. God is believed to be much greater than we can possibly imagine, as defined by philosopher Anselm (1033 1109) That which nothing greater can be conceived . It can be difficult to use our own language as a way of describing God and his attributes. The complexity of talking about God is shown in the quote, God can be thought about more truly than he can be talked about, and he is more truly than he can be thought about (De Trinitate On the Trinity ). In my discussion I will put forward different approaches of Aquinas, Ramsey, Maimonides and other philosophers to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of symbolic language about God Religious language is either analogical or equivocal. Thomas Aquinas and Ian Ramsey believed the analogical approach and thought there were similarities between the words we use in ordinary language and the words we use to describe God. Aquinas recognised that words do not have the same meaning when applied to God being infinite, but are univocal to a certain extent. As there is a true correspondence. E.g. God is good , we can understand what this means from our understanding of good although it might not be as great. With this, Aquinas then developed his theory of proportion. Within which he recognises that statements about God are qualitatively greater than statements about humans. Although his theory does seem to suggest that our ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Although Return of the Jedi is set a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away it is still deemed futuristic, due to the use and constant development of advanced technology throughout the Star Wars series, all star wars movies are deemed as futuristic. The Return of the Jedi is based on the idea of a futuristic dictatorship, where justice is rarely served, and where anyone who rebels against the dark side is as good as dead. This is shown by a quote from the emperor As you can see, my young apprentice, your friends have failed. Now witness the firepower of this fully armed and operational battle station! After finally stumbling into the bathroom, he pulled himself closer to the mirror over the sink trying to see the cause of the blood on his neck. After wiping his neck with a wet cloth, he seen the cause clearly; two holes, almost an inch apart from each other, were perfectly placed on the side of his neck. What the hell happened last night? Robin shook himself out of the memory. Looking out his penthouse suite window over modern day Paris, the Eiffel Tower now fully completed, the memory of that dreaded day came flooding back to his mind. No, he still couldn t remember anything from that night. Nor could he remember who it was that put this curse on him. All he knew was that day was the beginning of his torment of immortality. That day, he became a creature of folklore shown only in scary movies and spoken of only in secret; that day he became a vampire. One day, he vowed to himself, he would find out who it was that put this curse on him. Sure, some days, it was nice to know that death would never find you. However, most days it was only torture. He could never love anyone anymore. Not for 100 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

While some may think that unemployment is always the beholders fault, in Nigeria however, it is quite the contrary. Raw data and statistics can show exactly why a country has an unemployment problem. Along with that, causes of unemployment can be significant to why unemployment is such a critical problem. Even more, the effects of unemployment hint to the future of any country that struggles with this. With all of this in mind, one must wonder how much unemployment really affects a country. • 33. Animal Rape Research Paper They say if a frog is initially placed in boiling water, it will jump out. But if the temperature is gradually brought to a boiling point, the frog will stay and be cooked alive. The same principle might be applied to societal invasion today. Why destroy a nation or a culture in one massive attack? Would the results of such a bold move outweigh its costs? Would opposition to such a movement not be swift and without mercy? Or, rather, why not slowly permeate a culture from the inside out, cranking up tensions ever so slightly, just enough to assert authority, but not enough to set off too many warning bells. Why not saturate a society so wholly its people do not recognize the problem until it s too late? Such is the case in Europe, particularly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What about the migrant who said, It s not as wrong raping a Swedish girl as raping an Arab girl (Steen)? Will they consider the migrants who leave Germany and vacation in the countries they fled from? What about the refugee who raped a mentally ill fifteen year old Swedish girl in her psych ward? Or perhaps the mentally ill aren t important enough. Will the brutal murder (involving wrapping a dead snake around the man s neck and tying him up) of a gay man in Göteborg, Sweden, by two Moroccan migrants be severe enough for LGBT rights activists to protest? Or maybe the Jewish girl in Sweden who was raped at age twelve, then stalked and harassed (emotionally, physically, and sexually) by the migrant rapist s brother and mother for several months afterwards, and as a result had to escape to Norway because local authorities would not punish the migrants in the slightest? The word nigger is a common derogatory word, and that s when the discussion on whether or not the word should be freed come in. To put it another way, some people see it as they mean no harm in saying it, and if it s in a popular rap song why not sing along; while others see it as, the word was used by past opressores, and the word was used to talk down upon African Americans, so there s no good intention in the use of the word.
