What Is The Moral Of The Story By Bruno Bettelheim
Moral of the Story: Analyzation of Fairy Tales Fairy tales have been around and retold for hundreds of
years, ranging from enticing situations and imperative morals to teach and warn people of all ages.
Many have overlooked the underlying message of these beloved tales and deem them to be farfetched,
but these stories are critical to child development. On the Telling of Fairy Stories written by Bruno
Bettelheim, the strong belief presents the notion that verbally exclaiming fairy tales leaves a lasting
impact on adolescent minds well into adulthood. During the early development stages, the telling of
fairy tales educates children how to grasp the meaning and the power of storytelling. Each narrator, as
he told the story, dropped and added elements to make it more meaningful whom he knew well...
narrator let his unconscious understanding of what the story told be influenced by that of a child (150).
A narrator s purpose is to carry and determine the story through their eyes, what they see is exactly
what the reader sees as readers do not know anything that the author does not know. Each narrator
varies their stylistic approach to the story at large, and the best ones tailor it to the audience it affects.
Especially regarding children, the story should be illustrated in a way where it is appealing to them
and comprehensive to their minds. In this way, concepts can be accepted and digested, but also
understood in their respective way. For example, the excerpt provided a

Charlie Gordon In Flowers For Algernon
Ernest Hemingway once said, Happiness in intelligent people is the rarest thing I know. For Charlie
Gordon, Hemingway s words hold more truth than anything he had been told throughout the course of
his story. Charlie Gordon, the main character of Daniel Keyes Flowers for Algernon, was a thirty two
year old man born with an unusually low level of intelligence. When Charlie was approached by a pair
of scientists with the proposition of undergoing a revolutionary surgery to increase his intelligence, he
readily agreed, thinking that the smarter he was, the more liked he would be. This did not, however,
seem to be the case. Charlie Gordon was happier when his I.Q. returned to sixty eight after the
operation than he was with an I.Q. of one hundred ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
of sixty eight, after the operation. Throughout the novel Flowers for Algernon, Charlie underwent a
serious transformation from an optimistic but dimwitted thirty two year old man with hope for the
future, to a cynical genius whose world was slowly beginning to fall apart, and then back to a happier
version of his original self. However, it is indisputable that Charlie was the happiest after the
operation, when his I.Q. had sunk back down to a measly sixty eight. His relationships thrived in light
of his recent life events, he was protected by the innocence and childlike naïveté of his mental state,
and his learning ethic returned to a need to know basis. Intelligence has always been something of
incredible value, so much so that mentally retarded Charlie Gordon was approached by scientists with
the proposition of artificially increasing his intelligence. However, Daniel Keyes Flowers for Algernon
is the story of the life of Charlie Gordon, and if Charlie s tale is capable of teaching the readers
anything, it is that sometimes one s intellect comes at the sacrifice of his or her livelihood. Perhaps
Ernest Hemingway was correct: happiness and intelligence do not go

The Need for Groundwater Extraction Regulation
Groundwater is used primarily for irrigating farmland; and secondarily, for consumption and industrial
use. Aquifers, unconsolidated subterranean layers which hold water, are rapidly dwindling, and
groundwater depletion is quickly growing to become a major problem for farmers and the public at
large. Reserves close to ground level are rapidly drying up and due to technological roadblocks,
extracting water from deeper reserves is not yet financially feasible. The problem is especially severe
in California, which represents around 20% of all groundwater withdrawal in the United States
(Famiglietti, LA Times). A lack of water for agriculture would directly lead to diminished food
production and indirectly lead to requiring food imports from outside the state. Groundwater resources
are an unregulated public resource and despite any innovative breakthrough in extraction techniques,
the only sustainable, long term solution is to enforce limits on extraction. Regulation of how much
groundwater can be extracted from an aquifer in a set period of time; along with incentives to obtain
water from alternative sources is the ideal solution to address the perennially growing challenge of
groundwater depletion in California.
This regulatory effort must begin in politics but it needs to spread to society as well only when people
realize the consequences of over extraction will they even consider ceasing doing so. This solution is
not based primarily in science and technology, and is

Female Power In Patriarchal Relationships In 17th And 18th...

Final Paper
12 May 2016 The progression of Female power in patriarchal relationships in 17th and 18th century
Britain
Women in 17th and early 18th Century Britain were unequally treated, oppressed, and often
dumbfounded by their British male counter parts. They went through ridicule and solely depended on
marrying rich to seize their way up the social totem pole. But has time progressed we see women gain
more independence and even power in a patriarchal society. During this time period poems such as the
works of Sonnet 138 by. Shakespeare (1609), John Dryden s Song from a marriage Ă  la mode (1673),
Aphra Behns The Disappointment (1680), and Jonathan Swifts A ladies dressing room (1732), Are a
few samples of British literary works that hint at either the struggle, miss treatment, or even the
embarrassment between British men and women during the 17th century, but ultimately we see a
progression in woman independence in relationship. The following will depict how such examples

In the poem the man admits that they lie to each other there after he proclaims they both know they
are lying, we both flatter ourselves by lying about each other s faults (Sonnet 138), and ultimately
states that they are staying together. This introduces an interesting dynamic within male and female
relationships in Britain at the time. We see here in a Patriarchal society a male, acknowledging the fact
that he knows his wife is unfaithful to him, is not only calm about it; but says they will stay together
even given the situation. In the Elizabethan era women were known for being severely punished for
adultery. King Henry s wives were even beheaded for doing such. Taking that in consideration we can
see that even the highest class of woman didn t get a pass. Perhaps this poem indicates a sort of social
evolution for the

As you will. More tea?
Just then a girl s voice came echoing through the house.
At last. My father rose to his feet. Kikuko has arrived.
Despite our difference in years, my sister and I had always been close. Seeing me again seemed to
make her excessively excited, and for a while she did nothing but giggle nervously. But she calmed
down somewhat when my father started to question her about Osaka and her university. She answered
him with short, formal replies. She in turn asked me a few questions, but she seemed inhibited by the
fear that the questions might lead to awkward topics. After a while, the conversation had become even
sparser than prior to Kikuko s arrival. Then my father stood up, saying: I must attend to the supper.
Please excuse me for being burdened by such matters. Kikuko will look after you.

Dictionary.com defines the word Icon as a person or thing that is revered or idolized , that sums up
John Lennon pretty well; he was an icon in many different ways. He was a musician, an activist, and a
legend.
Born on October 9th, 1940 in Liverpool Maternity Hospital in Liverpool, England, John Lennon was
born, and so began what would become a journey that would lead to Lennon becoming one of the
most iconic figures of the 20th century.
His Father was often away, but he continued to support Lennon and his Mother with regular checks,
until his Father stopped in 1944, and he wouldn t return until six months later, where after many
heated debates, Lennon s Father forced him to choose between his Mother or him, at the age of 5, and
after choosing his Father twice, saw his Mother begin to walk away and at that moment decided to
choose her instead. John Lennon wouldn t see his Father again until he was 25. Despite what
happened with his parents, he would live the rest of childhood with his Aunt and Uncle. When
questioned about his upbringing, Lennon said Part of me would like to be accepted by all facets of
society and not be this loudmouthed lunatic poet/musician. But I cannot be what I am not ... I was the

Job Proverbs, Ecclesiastes And
The books of Wisdom : Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes and Song of Songs are hugely different
from the preceding books of history. They focus on raising questions about God, creation itself,
humanity and the essence of evil and suffering. In Job, we see one of the most famous individuals in
the Old Testament. His continual struggles and trials cause him to call out to God for answers, and he
receives one in Job 40:2 Shall the one who contends with the Almighty correct Him?He who rebukes
God, let him answer it. It s hard to read of Job s suffering and crying out to God without questioning
why God would let him suffer, but it does show us the peace that can be found in recognizing God s
sovereignty. In Psalms, we see a collection of lyrical poetry, songs and prayers. Many of these were
written by King David himself. The book covers almost the entire gamut of human emotion, from
sorrow to joy, from doubt to faith. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, in Proverbs 10:4 5, we see that working hard will lead us to a better life, but slacking off
will cause us shame. In Ecclesiastes: we have Solomon s (generally agreed upon to be the author)
analysis of life. It seems cynical, but overall the message of the book is hope in God. In Ecclesiastes
12:13 14 we get Solomon s basic lesson to those who are seeking a full and abundant life Let us hear
the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God and keep His commandments, For this is man s all. For
God will bring every work into judgment, Including every secret thing,Whether good or evil. In Song
of Songs, we see another lyrical, poetic book. This book is only one of two in the Bible that do not
mention God directly. It gives us an insight on how love, marriage and even sex are to be viewed and
practiced in a loving Christian home. Some people view this book as an allegorical view of Christ s

Characterization in Sister Carrie Essay
Characterization in Sister Carrie
The theme of unrequited love and unfulfilled ambitions, against a backdrop of a nation being
transformed by industrialism and capitalism, provides the substance of Theodore Dreiser s Sister
Carrie. During the late 19th Century we encounter three main characters who demonstrate this
underlying motif: Carrie Meeber, Charles H. Drouet, and George W. Hurstwood. Carrie will fulfill
many of her desires for riches and success, but her insatiable appetite will leave her feeling dissatisfied
at the end of the novel and all alone. With respect to the two men who most covet her affections,
Charles Drouet and George Hurstwood we have a study in contrasts. About the only thing Drouet and
Hurstwood have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As Eby (2) notes, Carrie is not one to submit to a solemn round of industry while postponing
gratification. Appropriately, Carrie s first lover is a drummer or traveling salesman who goes on the
road to market his company s wares.
Neither Carrie nor Drouet produce anything. Carrie uses her natural beauty and charms to consume
the goods Drouet s money provides, but Drouet only makes his money from moving goods not
producing them. As much as neither Carrie nor Drouet produce anything tangible, they are both
necessary kinds of people in the new industrial nation. Eby (2) confirms this reasoning, Drouet
produces nothing tangible to sell, but the efforts of thousands like him kept goods moving to their
ultimate destination, consumers. Potential buyers like Carrie with easily manipulible desires are also
essential: without desire, the consumer economy stalls.
Drouet is written like a character who might become someone like Willy Loman should he ever settle
down and marry and raise children. This is because he is young and good looking and can use his
charms to woo consumers to purchase his products. Nevertheless, Drouet does not accept the realities
of his situation. Like his clothes and manners, if he does not like reality he tries to modify it through a
variety of means, from running away and denial to the pursuit of superficial pleasures as a means of
escape.

Kurth Lewin s
Introduction:
The purpose of this article is to criticize Kurt Lewin s model of change. I will shows how successful
change can be encouraged and facilitated for long term success. The article compares the
characteristics of Lewin s Three Step Change Theory. According to me Kurt Lewin s theory is agoal
and plan oriented because it only consider about change not peoples feeling and opinions. His theory
makes a complex sense. It is assumed that it takes decades to understand his theory. I will be
providing the evidence further in my critical analysis. This article also include other theories about

One of the cornerstone models for understanding organizational change was developed by Kurt Lewin
back in the 1950s, and still holds true today. His model is known as Unfreeze Change Refreeze, refers
to the three stage process of change he describes. Lewin, a physicist as well as social scientist,
explained organizational change using the analogy of changing the shape of a block of ice.
Understanding Lewin s Model
If you have a large cube of ice, but realize that what you want is a cone of ice, what do you do? First
you must melt the ice to make it amenable to change (unfreeze). Then you must mold the iced water
into the shape you want (change). Finally, you must solidify the new shape (refreeze).
Unfreeze Change Refreeze
By looking at change as process with distinct stages, you can prepare yourself for what is coming and
make a plan to manage the transition looking before you leap, so to speak. All too often, people go
into change blindly, causing much unnecessary turmoil and chaos.
To begin any successful change process, you must first start by understanding why the change must
take place. As Lewin put it, Motivation for change must be generated before change can occur. One
must be helped to re examine many cherished assumptions about oneself and one s relations to others.
This is the unfreezing stage from which change

The Importance Of Imersion Experiences
The summer immersion experiences are two or three week readiness programs. These immersion
experiences are for students with autism spectrum disorder, ADHD or other learning differences. The
program has two separate concentrations; the college focus and the career and life focus. The college
focused immersion experience is for students entering 9 12 grades or transferring to college. The
program recognizes the importance of a student feeling comfortable and supported by a college they
attend no matter what their level of ability is, but especially when a student is diagnosed with
ASD/LD. This program assists students with being able to determine their own needs, self advocate
their needs, and expose students to different types of college programs (Transitions, 2016). Students
who attend this immersion program will tour colleges with strong ASD/LD supports, take part in
composition labs for college and scholarship application essays, develop communication and social
skills, and earn college credit (Transitions, 2016). The career and life focused immersion experience is
for young adults up to age 27 who want to start careers and live on their own. This program works to
teach students core skills found to be essential for career success. Students will learn how to properly
prepare for work or a career and appropriate ways to act at work. Transitions will assist students in
finding their dream job the student feels will fulfil their lives. Students will work at an

The Role Of Scholarly Integrity
The need to educate the scientific community on scholarly integrity necessarily moves the issue
beyond the individual. It is in first instance, research institutions that must provide students, faculty,
and staff with guidelines and codes of practice on scholarly integrity, endorse appreciation for the
diversity of views that may be brought to bear on issues, and inform about the institutional rules and
government regulations that apply to research.
At the same time, no system of rules can be expected to be efficacious without some element of
sanction. Here, it is essential that the institutional level provide effective procedures with which
violations of scholarly integrity can be addressed. These should ideally encompass not just academic

Emily Grierson Isolation
William Faulkner s A Rose for Emily is a complicated and controversial tale that, since its publication
in 1930, challenges social norms. The story is about the unfortunate life of an aristocratic woman,
Miss Emily Grierson, whose decrepit demeanor and eccentric behavior make her the town s subject of
scrutiny. After a series of odd events, Miss Emily dies and, upon her death, the townspeople discover
that her seclusion led her to harness the heinous powers of arsenic to murder Homer Barron, the lover
that attempted to desert her. Miss Emily kills Homer Barron because the town s incessant gossiping,
recognition of her gender, and acute awareness of her status create a toxic environment of isolation
that drives her to insanity and, ultimately, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When she does takes Homer Barron as her lover, the gossip that caused her initial isolation begins
again as some of the ladies [begin] to say that it [is] a disgrace to the town and a bad example to the
young people (Faulkner 520). She is raised knowing that a woman does not take a lover, instead she
marries young, has a family, and behaves like a proper southern woman. Miss Emily is an older
woman who is unmarried, and, during this period of time, engaging in a relationship with a man
deemed unworthy, as well as riding about town with him unaccompanied, is considered taboo. Miss
Emily is never permitted social happiness under the patriarchal system of her small, southern town
and it is her inability to cope with this reality that sends her to insanity. Furthermore, according to
Brooks Jr. and Warren, it is her proud refusal to admit an external [sexist] set of codes, or conventions,
or other wills that contradict her own will, which makes her capable at the end of keeping her lover
from going away (524). Miss Emily does not care that she is setting a poor example for the younger
generation because she wants companionship, and her contempt for the sexist conventions results in
the insanity that, ultimately, causes her to achieve a relationship in the most grotesque

The Benefits Of Organic Farming
As we have been discussing in class, the debate on organic food has been rising. Many say that it is
the way of the future, while many others say it is going back to the ways of the past. When synthetic
chemical fertilizers, pesticides and herbicides are currently some of the most used things in farming
today to help facilitate perfect growing conditions and increase yields, could it be possible for organic
farmers compete with them? If organic farming were to become the go to method of farming, we have
to ask: Is organic farming globally sustainable? While there may be many ways to answer this
question while looking at different aspects of the organic movement and their definitions, one answer
in particular jumped out at me. Organic farming is not globally sustainable because it is not efficient
enough to serve the global market. Sustainability is one of the top issues when it comes to farming
today. Farmers need to consider the effect they are having on their land when using certain practices
and products. For this reason, it is important to remember that organic and conventional farming both
require extensive work to maintain their products and to provide for the consumer. As we have seen in
Steven Shapin s essay What Are You Buying When You Buy Organic , in where he references Michael
Pollan talking about Asparagus, which had been grown in Argentina, [and] air freighted six thousand
miles to the States (433) , the role of the consumer is not limited to those in

mindset. I come as one who knows what it is like to sit alone in one s patrol car, empowered with the

We are often quick willing to eulogize and memorialize our departed comrades and loved ones and in

The prophets are difficult to interpret mainly due to misunderstandings about their function and form

messianic; less than 5% describes the new covenant age and less than 1% concerns future events
(Fee/Stuart p182). The prophets usually announced the immediate future of Judah, Israel and the

The Exegetical Task: Some parts of the Bible call for time and patient revision to understand. Some
people find help in Bible dictionaries, commentaries and Bible handbooks (Fee/Stuart p189). Fee and

(Fee/Stuart p190). The words spoken by the prophets at a variety of times and places are written down
without any indication as to where one oracle ends and another begins (Fee/Stuart p193). The prophets
employed an assortment of literary forms. 3 of the most common are: The lawsuit , God is portrayed

Bacchus And The Pieta By Michelangelo
Because of his genius, the work of art was chosen as the symbol of the Republic of Florence. It was
carved in a huge block of marble that remained abandoned for more than forty years after suffering
damage just in its basis in a previous attempt (Michelangelo took advantage of that just creating an
empty espace between Davi s feet). Several artists had fought for the honor of doing that, including
Leonardo da Vinci and Andrea Sansovino. Michelangelo was responsible for the task due to its already
established reputation for brilliant sculptor because of his Bacchus and the Pieta. Michelangelo got
one of the most beautiful representations of the human body in the history of art. The sculpture
represents a colossal teenager, 16.9 feet in height.

Legalizing Recreational Drugs
In 1826, a group of Americans sought out to ban all alcoholic beverages; they were successful and had
a law made under the 18th amendment. However under the 21st amendment it was repealed. So, the
question comes up, should all recreational drugs be banned today? I feel that recreational drugs today
(not for medical use) should not be banned.
I envision a world where drugs and even alcohol are legal. In my eyes the world does not appear
different. I feel that even now when drugs (also again including alcohol) are banned, so many people
do them illegally that it would not be that big of a difference if they are legalized. Consequently, if
they are legalized drug and alcohol abuse might go up and due to that reason there should still be some

Essay about Corruption in Politics
When it comes to corruption in politics, no one is immune. Both parties have had their share. Not too
long ago three members of Congress who are Republican were indicted due to political and financial
scandals (Wallis, 2012). Two are currently under investigation and one is in prison (Wallis, 2012). Part
of the problem in these corruption scandals involves the ability of interest groups to determine policy
as well as pork barrel spending (Wallis, 2012). While corruption takes place at all levels of
government, it has been particularly noticeable in the U.S. Congress. In the United States, there are
two Senators elected from each state and numerous Congressmen who comprise the United States
Congress. Of those elected, there have been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The question for the courts was does this follow the rules of evidentiary collection and was the search

Biography of Fidel Castro
Fidel Castro was born on August 13, 1926 in the BĂran, Cuba. (See Figure 5) Fidel grew up in
wealthier circumstances than most Cubans at the time, amid the massive and growing poverty. His
father, Ángel Castro y Argiz, was originally an immigrant from Spain. During Fidel s childhood,
Ángel was a fairly prosperous sugarcane farmer on a farm that had been dominated by United States
owned United Fruit Company. His mother, Lina Ruz Gonzalez, was a maid to Angel s first wife,
during Fidel s infancy. By the time Fidel was fifteen, his father disbanded his first marriage and wed
Lina, who is seen by Fidel to be his true mother. Fidel was educated in private Jesuit boarding schools.

Castro continued to use guerrilla attacks and gained large numbers of radical followers. Using these
guerrilla warfare tactics, Castro became known as the Guerilla Prince and with his supporters, he

much of his popular support and suffered many embarrassing defeats. Finally, on January 1, 1959,
Batista fled Cuba and went into exile, leaving the Cuban government in need of a president and

Taking it one step further with Batman Arkham City
When Arkham City was released on October 11th, 2011 for the Playstation 3, Xbox 360, and the PC, it
was to a different climate than Arkham Asylum, with gamers everywhere highly anticipating the
sequel. Arkham City marks the first Arkham game to be released on a Nintendo platform, as the
Armored Edition arrived on the WiiU in 2012. Warner Bros. Montreal ported it to the WiiU, and we
will take a closer look at them later in this article. Paul Dini returns to pen Arkham City s story,
however, Game Director Sefton Hill became increasingly more involved in the writing process. In
addition, Lead Narrative Designer Paul Crocker joined them, and the trio had big plans for the sequel
with big being the operative word. Arkham City features a bigger roster of enemies, and unshackles
the game from the confines of the Asylum, setting Batman free in an expansive open world. As a
result, the influences of Metroid and Zelda became more diluted. In my opinion, Arkham City is the

Young Adults Living at Home
People have grown up with the idea that you need to move out as soon as you graduate high school.
That is not always the case though, especially of the generation of our day. Whether it s because our
generation is having a longer transition between adolescence to adult hood, or they re having difficulty
finding a job, or maybe they re just not used to the idea of living without mom and dad, young adults
should be allowed to live with or near relatives until they are emotionally, mentally, and financially.
Studies show that our generation is experiencing a longer transition between adolescence and
adulthood. More than one out every ten young adults still live with their parents and forty percent of

There are many reasons why one would find it easier living with our parents, most of us find that
living at home is where we feel most safe and secure. Men, on the other hand, like living with
relatives better because they have no responsibilities. Mom will cook, clean, and maintain the house
for you. At home you re not going to have to do chores, or probably not as many as you would have to
do if you were living on your own. Although parents should help their children through this rough
transition from adolescence to adulthood, they should not give them the responsibility free life. Yes, it
might be best for some young adults to live at home with parents until they are ready, but they also
need to start taking the initiative and find ways to achieve their goals on their own. Some parents need
to redefine what it really means to help your children. If you are just helping to make yourself better,
you re probably not doing what is best for your child. Parents should be showing their kids how the
real world works. They need to be growing up and maturing into successful adults, not growing back
into childhood roles. Young adults should be living independent lives, making their own decisions,
and achieving their own goals. Whether it s because our generation is having a longer transition
between adolescence to adulthood, or they re having difficulty finding a job, or maybe they re just not

Full Metal Jacket Movie Analysis
Before watching the movie Full Metal Jacket, I thought it would be more of a comedic type of war
movie. This movie portrayed the sad part of war, where you lose your closes friends, and shows how
gruesome and cold war could be. In today s society, video games only portray the positive stigma of
war instead of showing the negatives and dark part of it.
My favorite scene of the movie was from the opening of the film to the first meeting between the U.S
Marine Corps recruits and the senior drill instructor Gunnery Sergeant Hartman. The reason I enjoyed
the beginning scene is because it had a lot of dark comedy where he was hazing the recruits. The first

Sinkholes are a common occurence in Florida due to limestone rich bedrock. Groundwater dissolves
calcium carbonate, weakening the ground and washing out structures built on top of it. Just recently in

due to drilling a well at the a resident s home. Fortuately, no one was hurt and the area was evalucated

Rapidly forming sinkholes are unusal, and can occur without warning. However, most sinkholes give
warning signs before evolving into a much larger problem. If you suspect sinkhole activity on your

Categorization of Sitcom Fathers
For this essay I consulted EPGuides.com[1] and The Internet Movie Database[2], which also includes
minimal facts of television shows and casts. Throughout the course of television history there have
evolved several types and variations of fathers: the Simulacrum; the Single parent; the Substitute; the
Homer Simpson; the Apathetic.
Though their characteristics coincide with American values, the Simulacrum Father does not merely
represent ideals but America s adoption of simulations. Jean Baudrillard concisely describes his
complex idea of simulacra as the generation by models of a real without origin or reality in The
Precession of Simulacra. Mid Twentieth century television fathers such as ... Show more content on

The Simulacrum Father endures because sitcom fathers reinforce American ideals of fathers through
deriving from past generation of ideal father images, the same origin of audiences ideals.
The Single parent Father diverges from the Simulacrum as such fathers exist as referents; however,
this type signifies another American ideal of the virtuous parent. The model for this type is Bob Saget
s Danny Tanner of Full House, who strove to provide his three daughters the experience of two parents
through dedication, over compensation, and unhealthy doses of didactic conversations. Two shows
descended from Full House illustrate both the simulacrum (through their cast connections to Full
House) and attributes of the single parent father: Raising Dad, featuring Bob Saget, A sitcom about a
widowed father struggling to separate his professional personal lives and keeping his sanity while
raising two daughters, (imdb.com) and Two of a Kind, A show about a single father who has his hands
full raising twin sisters Mary Kate and Ashley [Olsen, of Full House] (imdb.com). The description of
these shows alludes to single parenting as the modern struggle; unlike other ideals, this television
image represents reality at least in as much as the high divorce rates of the 1990s, though

Essay on Ethanol Energy
Since the invention of the internal combustion engine, car makers and consumers have been filling the
gas tank with just that, gasoline. Starting out with leaded gasoline then slowly switching to unleaded
gas in the late 1960s until catalytic converters, a new auto part which can only run on unleaded, were
made mandatory in 1975. However over the past couple decades there have been a new contender in
the fuel marketplace to power consumers cars. Ethanol is defined in World Book Student as a type of
alcohol found in alcoholic beverages and used as an automobile fuel (Sheehan 1). Sometimes called
ethyl alcohol or grain alcohol, has been an additive to gasoline since its introduction. The purpose was

There has been a steady increase in the price of gasoline since the end of 2008 when there was a major
push for ethanol gasoline blends; which are categorized as E10 (10% ethanol, 90% gasoline) and
blends all the way up to E85 (85% ethanol, 15% gasoline). E85 is the highest amount of ethanol allow
for sale in retail, but, in Brazil E100 (100% ethanol) is everywhere. It is not even possible to buy
regular gasoline in Brazil anymore. The reason the price stays up is because it costs extra to
manufacture ethanol and put it in as an additive. The process of harvesting the corn, (which is the
most popular crop in the United States for ethanol) then paying for all of the machinery/workers tends
to get expensive. The simple process to make gasoline starts with: digging for oil at oil fields, then
either shipping the barrels from other countries or from our oil fields to refineries. The oil is then
refined into gasoline, the different companies then pay to rent pipelines to ship the fuel to terminals.
The closest terminal to Rexburg is in Pocatello; it is then put onto different trucks and sent to different
gas stations within the area of that terminal. Ethanol is a solvent, which means that it will eat through
rubber, plastic, fiberglass, and certain types of metals; so it cannot be shipped with the gasoline
through the pipelines to the terminals. If it was shipped with the fuel in the lines the cleaning
properties of the Ethanol would pick up any water,

Erikson’S Theory Of Psychosocial Development Was The First
Erikson s theory of psychosocial development was the first theory that demonstrated the development
from womb to tomb. His theory posited three tenets, the first that each era in life had a developmental
crisis, and that at each period there was the opportunity for growth and development. Each
developmental stage poses a developmental crisis that is central to that age, and as stated in Erikson s
second tenet, if there is an interruption in the development of one of the stages, the stages following
will be effected. Though each developmental stage has one fundamental stage that is being worked on,
Erikson s third tenet states that the challenges of all of the other stages are still present; although there
is one crisis that is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My resolution of this stage was below average, meaning that I am more reliant on others around me
than the majority of people my age. This is shown when I do things on my own and seek the
reassurance of others to make sure that I did it correctly. After the development of autonomy vs.
shame and doubt, the child moves on to the development of initiative vs. guilt. From ages three to six,
the child is building on their development of independence, and begin to develop the ability to start
things on their own. This is often the age in which kids begin to want to do things for themselves. At
this age, it is important that the kids are encouraged to initiate, plan, devise, and do things for
themselves. If a child does not have an adequate development of initiative, they will be afraid to try
new things, which, similar to all other developmental stages, will effect the individual later in life. I
ranked below average in this category for people my age, showing that I lean more towards guilt than
I do towards initiative. This is shown through my seeking out of others when it comes to trying
something new; rather than wanting to try something new on my own, I usually seek the comfort of
having others with me. Following this stage, the age of five up until about 12 years of age, the child
begins the development of industry vs. inferiority. Industry refers to the competence of a child in
things that a particular culture values; these competencies can

The Different Styles Of Parenting Essay
The two different styles of parenting that are described in the book are concerted cultivation and
natural growth. Concerted cultivation is typically seen in the middle class families. Whereas natural
growth is mainly seen in the working class families. The book defines concerted cultivation as having
Organized activities, established and controlled by mothers and fathers... (Lareau, 2011, p.1). And it
defines natural growth as having children experience long stretches of leisure time, child initiated
play, clear boundaries between adults and children, and daily interactions with the kin. (Lareau, 2011,
p.3). Essentially in concerted cultivation parents are focused in exposing their children in activities
that will implement skills that they can use later in life. Some of the skills will be mentioned in the
next paragraph. As for the natural growth approach, it is more concerned in letting the child acquire
the necessary skills on their own. This parenting style views that the parents do not really impact the
skills that the child learns. An example would be thinking that the child s organized activity helps the
child have something to do for a certain amount of time. They do not view the child s activities as
helping them acquire skills that will help them into adulthood. Throughout the book it has become
clear that the differences we are seeing are not due to racial or ethnic background but rather to the
parenting style that is implemented to the children. We are able

The World s Population Will Face A Severe Shortage Of Water
Case Summary According to research conducted by the United Nations, approximately two thirds of
the world s population will face a severe shortage of water by 2025(Shaw Barry, 2014, pg. 131). Some
countries have begun to prepare early by importing tankers of water from other countries. The State of
Michigan; however, is not as concerned about the shortage due to having over 11,000 lakes including
the Great Lakes. Due to the vast amount of water sources, Nestle has built a bottled water plant in
Mecosta County, Michigan. The new plant has cost Nestle over 100 million dollars and has caused
much controversy with locals. Nestle had built a 12 mile pipeline from the plant to a local spring.
Many organizations in Michigan saw this as a huge threat to water conservation and later had resorted
to suing Nestle. Lawyers from organizations such as, Michigan s Citizens for Water Conservation and
Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians had claimed that due to reasonable use and a treaty from
1836, the land was protected from misuse of transportation of water. Michigan state judge, Lawrence
Root, had bought the argument and had upheld the lawsuit. Ruling that the environment is at risk no
matter how much water Nestle draws out, he ordered the pumps turned off (Barry, 2014, pg. 132).
Around two years later the case had been appealed and sent back to the appellate court to be revised.
The court had entered Nestle into an agreement that they would not pump more than 250 gallons

A Doll s House Gender Essay
Throughout much of English literature, gender and sex have been carefully analyzed. Often, a literary
character can be identified as either male or female simply based on the character s behavior or on the
way they are described by the author. Gender is not the biological traits that society uses to assign a
person into either female or male; this is called sex. Gender is the repeated socialization over time that
leads men and women to fall into a false sense that they are acting naturally, rather than following a
socially constructed role. In A Doll House , Henrik Ibsen appoints specific stereotypical gender roles
to each of his characters to show how gender has been constructed by social expectations. One of the
most obvious issues that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Male roles in A Doll House are presented through two characters: Torvald Helmer and Nils Krogstad.
In the first place, Torvald Helmer is a mirror image of the stereotypical male gender. To him, social
expectations surrounding his gender must be met. He holds on to the belief that a man s role in
marriage is to protect and guide his wife. Also, Torvald believes that all husbands have a right to their
wives bodies. He asks Aren t I your husband ? (Isben 832) after Nora resists having sex with him. This
demonstrates how male figures of the 19th century thought they had all the power, especially when
behind closed doors. As Parker (2003) describes, in common Victorian society, the husband did not
view their wives as equals but rather an amusement or possession . Torvald enjoys the idea that Nora
needs instruction and is quite eager to show her how to dance the tarantella. Torvald is very
overbearing and treats his wife Nora like a doll. The Helmer household acts as an enclosure to shelter
the entire family from the cruelties of the outside world. Another stereotypical trait of Torvald Helmer
s is that he has a steady job and is very conscious of his appearance in the community. He has the
desire to stay in good rankings thus fires Krogstad from the bank as to not make [himself] ridiculous

Hot Fire Fuel Injector Cleaner Trade Campaign
There is a famous saying that I have always heard since working in both the marketing and business
fields that I am involved with as an employee. The promotion that will be used for Hot Fire Fuel
Injector Cleaner holds true to that quote originally cited by Plautus (n.d.), You ve got to spend money
to make money. The main focus should be on the fact that the fuel injector cleaner works. By
promoting to both retailers and consumer this fact attached to a racecar endorsements, Terry Welsh can
gain the trust necessary to sell the product. Adding a consumer guarantee, Hot Fire Fuel Injector
Cleaner also provides a promise of quality to both the retailer and consumer. The company is ready to
expand nationally, therefore they need to invest in a trade promotion that will draw a retailer to
consider the product. The main objective here is getting Terry Welsh s product, Hot Fire Fuel Injector
Cleaner, onto the shelves of major and local retailers, along with being used by body shops. Terry
must strategically create a plan that will be affordable to himself, along with being persuasive enough
for some retailers to self his product.

Athena s Role In Greek Mythology
In the Homeric Hymn 28, Homer describes Athena as, the glorious Goddess, bright eyed, inventive,
unbending of heart, pure virgin, saviour of cities, courageous (Rayor 2014:90). In this essay I will
discuss the features of Athena that are emphasised in selected mythological tales. This will be done in
order to come to a conclusion on the nature of the Greek gods as opposed to the God of Christian
religion.
Homer continues in that same hymn to describe the process of Athena s birth. The myth surrounding
her birth is discussed in greater detail in The Encyclopaedia of Greek Roman Mythology (Roman
2010:90). Roman explains that according to Hesoid s Theogony, Zeus swallowed his first wife, the
ocean nymph, Metis after he was informed that he would be overthrown by their second child. Metis
was however already pregnant with Athena. Zeus started to experience excruciating headaches. He
ordered Hephaestus to split open his skull with his axe. Athena emerged, fully armed with a sharp
spear, uttering warlike cries. The process of her birth is symbolic of her domain over intellectual
abilities. She is considered the goddess of wisdom, but is also associated with ... Show more content

In the book of Genesis, The Bible states that, In the beginning God created , but nowhere do we read
of the birth of God or the Holy Spirit. In the New Testament we read about the coming of Jesus Christ,
the son of God. Jesus is born from the virgin, Mary through the process of natural child birth. The only
unusual or supernatural element that is present in this story is that Mary was still a virgin. There is
however a similarity in these stories. Zeus was informed about the child s power through a prophesy.
Similarly we read about the prophesy of Jesus birth in the gospels. We also read that King Herod
feared the birth of the

The Ethicality Of Human Experimentation
Human experimentation has always been a highly controversial topic and practice. It deals with the
use of human subjects taking part in tests for usually scientific and/or medical purposes. These tests
are done for the end goal of furthering knowledge in certain scientific fields. While it does have its
benefits, it has an immense negative stigma attached to it, and for understandable reasons. In 1896, a
man by the name of Arthur Wentworth performed an operation on 29 children at a Boston hospital to
see if the procedure itself was harmful. His efforts were noted as being virtually non therapeutic and
were given the label of vivisection, which is now a modern, general term for live experimentation.
This however was not the origin of human experimentation. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Some of the earliest instances of human experimentation include 1st century s Cleopatra. During her
reign, she tested a belief at the time that concluded it only took 40 days to fully develop a male fetus
and 80 days for a female to fully develop. This was tested by ordering her handmaids to be
inseminated and their wombs cut open during different gestational phases while they were under a
government death sentencing order. An early practice to examine the workings of the human body
indeed, but it is not by far the only one. Two surgeons from the 3rd century of Alexandria by the
names of Herophilus and Erasistratus frequently practiced human experimentation on live convicted
criminals. They were particularly interested in discovering more of the human anatomy and how it
works. Their methods would be considered far too extreme today, as would many cultures in ancient

The Pine Is The Oldest Living Organism On The Planet
Growing in only six states the bristlecone pine is the oldest living organism on the planet. At 4,765
years old the Methuselah is the oldest documented living bristlecone there is, being almost 1,000 years
older than its counterparts of the species. The age of this tree can be determined by the amount of
rings that are found when the inner truck is exposed. There is where the truth of the extraordinary tree
and its undeniable ability to outlive all other organisms lies. The bristlecone having the ability to
outlive all other organisms can be questioned but instead of asking how it lives so long it should be
questioned on the reasons for its lengthy pace to die.
The bristlecone pine is known to grow in the White Mountains of eastern California. In that area
conditions are not most desirable and ideal for plants to grow, however the bristlecone has managed to
withstand the harsh conditions and surpass the hands of time. The White Mountains are an area that
experiences short summers with a season for growing only being measured at several weeks. These
mountains also adhere to strong dry winds that travel against rocky souls. These type of conditions
cause any rain water that may fall to either drain off to fast for the plant to absorb or the water to just
evaporate (Matthews, M). With such harsh conditions it is amazing that the bristlecone is still standing
as the oldest living organism, unless it is because of these harsh conditions that the tree has such
longevity.

Jose Bautista Research Paper
It was a cold, windy afternoon a couple days before we were leaving to fly down to Florida. I was so
thrilled to get away from the bitter Midwest. I was thinking in my room and thought about heading to
Toronto Blue Jays game over the summer to see my favorite player, Jose Bautista. Jose Bautista has
been one of my favorite players for a couple years, and I just really wanted to see him in person. I
asked my mom about heading to one and she actually looked up a game to go to, but for Spring
Training. It turns out that we found there Spring Training ballpark was just a little over two hours from
where we were staying the Florida. My mom and I talked more and more about going to a game, and
then it turned out that my mom purchased us each a ticket ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I noticed that he was pretty tall when he walked out. When I came down the stairs with my sharpie
baseball, there was a pretty good amount of kids already scattered around the fence waiting for an
autograph. I was pretty much the only girl waiting, which felt kind of weird to me. Joe Biagini was
really nice to all of the fans getting autographs. He would ask where people came from, if they re over
for spring break, and he was thanking everyone for coming. Overall, from what I saw, he seemed like
a pretty nice guy. I worked my way through the crowd of people to get my autograph. I was right up
next to him! Thank you, I happily replied as he gave me my signed baseball. I made my way back
through the crowd and showed my mom my autographed ball. That s cool! You might have not gotten
Jose Bautista s, but you got Biagini s, she cheerfully said. I replied, Yep, it s better than nothing!
Shortly after, Joe Biagini left, the Blue Jays mascot came out to sign. Ace was the bright blue jays
name. I figured that I might as well get his autograph. There really wasn t a lot of people getting his
autograph, so it didn t take a while to wait for it. At the end of the day I got two autographs, saw the
Blue Jays win, and saw Jose Bautista for the very first time! It s something that I don t think I will
ever forget, and it all happened in just

  • 3. What Is The Moral Of The Story By Bruno Bettelheim Moral of the Story: Analyzation of Fairy Tales Fairy tales have been around and retold for hundreds of years, ranging from enticing situations and imperative morals to teach and warn people of all ages. Many have overlooked the underlying message of these beloved tales and deem them to be farfetched, but these stories are critical to child development. On the Telling of Fairy Stories written by Bruno Bettelheim, the strong belief presents the notion that verbally exclaiming fairy tales leaves a lasting impact on adolescent minds well into adulthood. During the early development stages, the telling of fairy tales educates children how to grasp the meaning and the power of storytelling. Each narrator, as he told the story, dropped and added elements to make it more meaningful whom he knew well... narrator let his unconscious understanding of what the story told be influenced by that of a child (150). A narrator s purpose is to carry and determine the story through their eyes, what they see is exactly what the reader sees as readers do not know anything that the author does not know. Each narrator varies their stylistic approach to the story at large, and the best ones tailor it to the audience it affects. Especially regarding children, the story should be illustrated in a way where it is appealing to them and comprehensive to their minds. In this way, concepts can be accepted and digested, but also understood in their respective way. For example, the excerpt provided a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Charlie Gordon In Flowers For Algernon Ernest Hemingway once said, Happiness in intelligent people is the rarest thing I know. For Charlie Gordon, Hemingway s words hold more truth than anything he had been told throughout the course of his story. Charlie Gordon, the main character of Daniel Keyes Flowers for Algernon, was a thirty two year old man born with an unusually low level of intelligence. When Charlie was approached by a pair of scientists with the proposition of undergoing a revolutionary surgery to increase his intelligence, he readily agreed, thinking that the smarter he was, the more liked he would be. This did not, however, seem to be the case. Charlie Gordon was happier when his I.Q. returned to sixty eight after the operation than he was with an I.Q. of one hundred ... Throughout the novel Flowers for Algernon, Charlie underwent a serious transformation from an optimistic but dimwitted thirty two year old man with hope for the future, to a cynical genius whose world was slowly beginning to fall apart, and then back to a happier version of his original self. However, it is indisputable that Charlie was the happiest after the operation, when his I.Q. had sunk back down to a measly sixty eight. His relationships thrived in light of his recent life events, he was protected by the innocence and childlike naĂŻvetĂ© of his mental state, and his learning ethic returned to a need to know basis. Intelligence has always been something of incredible value, so much so that mentally retarded Charlie Gordon was approached by scientists with the proposition of artificially increasing his intelligence. However, Daniel Keyes Flowers for Algernon is the story of the life of Charlie Gordon, and if Charlie s tale is capable of teaching the readers anything, it is that sometimes one s intellect comes at the sacrifice of his or her livelihood. • 5. The Need for Groundwater Extraction Regulation Groundwater is used primarily for irrigating farmland; and secondarily, for consumption and industrial use. Aquifers, unconsolidated subterranean layers which hold water, are rapidly dwindling, and groundwater depletion is quickly growing to become a major problem for farmers and the public at large. Reserves close to ground level are rapidly drying up and due to technological roadblocks, extracting water from deeper reserves is not yet financially feasible. The problem is especially severe in California, which represents around 20% of all groundwater withdrawal in the United States (Famiglietti, LA Times). A lack of water for agriculture would directly lead to diminished food production and indirectly lead to requiring food imports from outside the state. Groundwater resources are an unregulated public resource and despite any innovative breakthrough in extraction techniques, the only sustainable, long term solution is to enforce limits on extraction. Regulation of how much groundwater can be extracted from an aquifer in a set period of time; along with incentives to obtain water from alternative sources is the ideal solution to address the perennially growing challenge of groundwater depletion in California. This regulatory effort must begin in politics but it needs to spread to society as well only when people realize the consequences of over extraction will they even consider ceasing doing so. This solution is not based primarily in science and technology, and is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Jake Mastrocola Professor Manry Final Paper 12 May 2016 The progression of Female power in patriarchal relationships in 17th and 18th century Britain Women in 17th and early 18th Century Britain were unequally treated, oppressed, and often dumbfounded by their British male counter parts. They went through ridicule and solely depended on marrying rich to seize their way up the social totem pole. Characterization in Sister Carrie Essay Characterization in Sister Carrie The theme of unrequited love and unfulfilled ambitions, against a backdrop of a nation being transformed by industrialism and capitalism, provides the substance of Theodore Dreiser s Sister Carrie. During the late 19th Century we encounter three main characters who demonstrate this underlying motif: Carrie Meeber, Charles H. Drouet, and George W. Hurstwood. Carrie will fulfill many of her desires for riches and success, but her insatiable appetite will leave her feeling dissatisfied at the end of the novel and all alone. Appropriately, Carrie s first lover is a drummer or traveling salesman who goes on the road to market his company s wares. Neither Carrie nor Drouet produce anything. Carrie uses her natural beauty and charms to consume the goods Drouet s money provides, but Drouet only makes his money from moving goods not producing them. As much as neither Carrie nor Drouet produce anything tangible, they are both necessary kinds of people in the new industrial nation. Eby (2) confirms this reasoning, Drouet produces nothing tangible to sell, but the efforts of thousands like him kept goods moving to their ultimate destination, consumers. Potential buyers like Carrie with easily manipulible desires are also essential: without desire, the consumer economy stalls. Drouet is written like a character who might become someone like Willy Loman should he ever settle down and marry and raise children. This is because he is young and good looking and can use his charms to woo consumers to purchase his products. Nevertheless, Drouet does not accept the realities of his situation. Like his clothes and manners, if he does not like reality he tries to modify it through a variety of means, from running away and denial to the pursuit of superficial pleasures as a means of escape. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the cornerstone models for understanding organizational change was developed by Kurt Lewin back in the 1950s, and still holds true today. His model is known as Unfreeze Change Refreeze, refers to the three stage process of change he describes. Lewin, a physicist as well as social scientist, explained organizational change using the analogy of changing the shape of a block of ice. Understanding Lewin s Model If you have a large cube of ice, but realize that what you want is a cone of ice, what do you do? First you must melt the ice to make it amenable to change (unfreeze). Then you must mold the iced water into the shape you want (change). Finally, you must solidify the new shape (refreeze). Unfreeze Change Refreeze By looking at change as process with distinct stages, you can prepare yourself for what is coming and make a plan to manage the transition looking before you leap, so to speak. All too often, people go into change blindly, causing much unnecessary turmoil and chaos. To begin any successful change process, you must first start by understanding why the change must take place. As Lewin put it, Motivation for change must be generated before change can occur. One must be helped to re examine many cherished assumptions about oneself and one s relations to others. Many say that it is the way of the future, while many others say it is going back to the ways of the past. When synthetic chemical fertilizers, pesticides and herbicides are currently some of the most used things in farming today to help facilitate perfect growing conditions and increase yields, could it be possible for organic farmers compete with them? If organic farming were to become the go to method of farming, we have to ask: Is organic farming globally sustainable? While there may be many ways to answer this question while looking at different aspects of the organic movement and their definitions, one answer in particular jumped out at me. Organic farming is not globally sustainable because it is not efficient enough to serve the global market. Sustainability is one of the top issues when it comes to farming today. Farmers need to consider the effect they are having on their land when using certain practices and products. For this reason, it is important to remember that organic and conventional farming both require extensive work to maintain their products and to provide for the consumer. The prophets employed an assortment of literary forms. 3 of the most common are: The lawsuit , God is portrayed as the plaintiff, prosecuting attorney and judge against the defendant, Israel (Fee/Stuart p194). The Woe, Woe oracles implicitly or explicitly contain an announcement of distress, the reason for distress and a prediction of doom. The promise , This contains an allusion to the future, a mention of radical change and blessing (Fee/Stuart p195). Hermeneutical Suggestions: What is God s word to us through these inspired oracles, spoken in another time to God s people? Once we understand what God said to them then, we will hear it again in our own surroundings (Fee/Stuart p199). The prophets messages were concentrated on the near rather than the distant future (Fee/Stuart p200). It was carved in a huge block of marble that remained abandoned for more than forty years after suffering damage just in its basis in a previous attempt (Michelangelo took advantage of that just creating an empty espace between Davi s feet). Several artists had fought for the honor of doing that, including Leonardo da Vinci and Andrea Sansovino. I feel that recreational drugs today (not for medical use) should not be banned. I envision a world where drugs and even alcohol are legal. In my eyes the world does not appear different. Part of the problem in these corruption scandals involves the ability of interest groups to determine policy as well as pork barrel spending (Wallis, 2012). The model for this type is Bob Saget s Danny Tanner of Full House, who strove to provide his three daughters the experience of two parents through dedication, over compensation, and unhealthy doses of didactic conversations. Two shows descended from Full House illustrate both the simulacrum (through their cast connections to Full House) and attributes of the single parent father: Raising Dad, featuring Bob Saget, A sitcom about a widowed father struggling to separate his professional personal lives and keeping his sanity while raising two daughters, (imdb.com) and Two of a Kind, A show about a single father who has his hands full raising twin sisters Mary Kate and Ashley [Olsen, of Full House] (imdb.com). E85 is the highest amount of ethanol allow for sale in retail, but, in Brazil E100 (100% ethanol) is everywhere. It is not even possible to buy regular gasoline in Brazil anymore. The reason the price stays up is because it costs extra to manufacture ethanol and put it in as an additive. The process of harvesting the corn, (which is the most popular crop in the United States for ethanol) then paying for all of the machinery/workers tends to get expensive. The simple process to make gasoline starts with: digging for oil at oil fields, then either shipping the barrels from other countries or from our oil fields to refineries. The oil is then refined into gasoline, the different companies then pay to rent pipelines to ship the fuel to terminals. The closest terminal to Rexburg is in Pocatello; it is then put onto different trucks and sent to different gas stations within the area of that terminal. Ethanol is a solvent, which means that it will eat through rubber, plastic, fiberglass, and certain types of metals; so it cannot be shipped with the gasoline through the pipelines to the terminals. Each developmental stage poses a developmental crisis that is central to that age, and as stated in Erikson s second tenet, if there is an interruption in the development of one of the stages, the stages following will be effected. This is shown when I do things on my own and seek the reassurance of others to make sure that I did it correctly. After the development of autonomy vs. shame and doubt, the child moves on to the development of initiative vs. guilt. From ages three to six, the child is building on their development of independence, and begin to develop the ability to start things on their own. This is often the age in which kids begin to want to do things for themselves. At this age, it is important that the kids are encouraged to initiate, plan, devise, and do things for themselves. If a child does not have an adequate development of initiative, they will be afraid to try new things, which, similar to all other developmental stages, will effect the individual later in life. Concerted cultivation is typically seen in the middle class families. Whereas natural growth is mainly seen in the working class families. And it defines natural growth as having children experience long stretches of leisure time, child initiated play, clear boundaries between adults and children, and daily interactions with the kin. (Lareau, 2011, p.3). Essentially in concerted cultivation parents are focused in exposing their children in activities that will implement skills that they can use later in life. Some of the skills will be mentioned in the next paragraph. As for the natural growth approach, it is more concerned in letting the child acquire the necessary skills on their own. This parenting style views that the parents do not really impact the skills that the child learns. An example would be thinking that the child s organized activity helps the child have something to do for a certain amount of time. They do not view the child s activities as helping them acquire skills that will help them into adulthood. Often, a literary character can be identified as either male or female simply based on the character s behavior or on the way they are described by the author. Gender is the repeated socialization over time that leads men and women to fall into a false sense that they are acting naturally, rather than following a socially constructed role. Athena s Role In Greek Mythology In the Homeric Hymn 28, Homer describes Athena as, the glorious Goddess, bright eyed, inventive, unbending of heart, pure virgin, saviour of cities, courageous (Rayor 2014:90). In this essay I will discuss the features of Athena that are emphasised in selected mythological tales. This will be done in order to come to a conclusion on the nature of the Greek gods as opposed to the God of Christian religion. Homer continues in that same hymn to describe the process of Athena s birth. The myth surrounding her birth is discussed in greater detail in The Encyclopaedia of Greek Roman Mythology (Roman 2010:90). Roman explains that according to Hesoid s Theogony, Zeus swallowed his first wife, the ocean nymph, Metis after he was informed that he would be overthrown by their second child. Metis was however already pregnant with Athena. Zeus started to experience excruciating headaches. He ordered Hephaestus to split open his skull with his axe. Athena emerged, fully armed with a sharp spear, uttering warlike cries. The process of her birth is symbolic of her domain over intellectual abilities. She is considered the goddess of wisdom, but is also associated with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the book of Genesis, The Bible states that, In the beginning God created , but nowhere do we read of the birth of God or the Holy Spirit. In the New Testament we read about the coming of Jesus Christ, the son of God. Jesus is born from the virgin, Mary through the process of natural child birth. The only unusual or supernatural element that is present in this story is that Mary was still a virgin. There is however a similarity in these stories. Zeus was informed about the child s power through a prophesy. Similarly we read about the prophesy of Jesus birth in the gospels. We also read that King Herod feared the birth of the ... • 45. The Ethicality Of Human Experimentation Human experimentation has always been a highly controversial topic and practice. It deals with the use of human subjects taking part in tests for usually scientific and/or medical purposes. These tests are done for the end goal of furthering knowledge in certain scientific fields. While it does have its benefits, it has an immense negative stigma attached to it, and for understandable reasons. In 1896, a man by the name of Arthur Wentworth performed an operation on 29 children at a Boston hospital to see if the procedure itself was harmful. His efforts were noted as being virtually non therapeutic and were given the label of vivisection, which is now a modern, general term for live experimentation. This however was not the origin of human experimentation. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some of the earliest instances of human experimentation include 1st century s Cleopatra. During her reign, she tested a belief at the time that concluded it only took 40 days to fully develop a male fetus and 80 days for a female to fully develop. This was tested by ordering her handmaids to be inseminated and their wombs cut open during different gestational phases while they were under a government death sentencing order. An early practice to examine the workings of the human body indeed, but it is not by far the only one. Two surgeons from the 3rd century of Alexandria by the names of Herophilus and Erasistratus frequently practiced human experimentation on live convicted criminals. They were particularly interested in discovering more of the human anatomy and how it works. Their methods would be considered far too extreme today, as would many cultures in ancient ... • 48. The Pine Is The Oldest Living Organism On The Planet Growing in only six states the bristlecone pine is the oldest living organism on the planet. At 4,765 years old the Methuselah is the oldest documented living bristlecone there is, being almost 1,000 years older than its counterparts of the species. The age of this tree can be determined by the amount of rings that are found when the inner truck is exposed. There is where the truth of the extraordinary tree and its undeniable ability to outlive all other organisms lies. The bristlecone having the ability to outlive all other organisms can be questioned but instead of asking how it lives so long it should be questioned on the reasons for its lengthy pace to die. The bristlecone pine is known to grow in the White Mountains of eastern California. In that area conditions are not most desirable and ideal for plants to grow, however the bristlecone has managed to withstand the harsh conditions and surpass the hands of time. The White Mountains are an area that experiences short summers with a season for growing only being measured at several weeks. These mountains also adhere to strong dry winds that travel against rocky souls. These type of conditions cause any rain water that may fall to either drain off to fast for the plant to absorb or the water to just evaporate (Matthews, M). With such harsh conditions it is amazing that the bristlecone is still standing as the oldest living organism, unless it is because of these harsh conditions that the tree has such longevity. • 49. Jose Bautista Research Paper It was a cold, windy afternoon a couple days before we were leaving to fly down to Florida. I was so thrilled to get away from the bitter Midwest. I was thinking in my room and thought about heading to Toronto Blue Jays game over the summer to see my favorite player, Jose Bautista. Jose Bautista has been one of my favorite players for a couple years, and I just really wanted to see him in person. I asked my mom about heading to one and she actually looked up a game to go to, but for Spring Training. It turns out that we found there Spring Training ballpark was just a little over two hours from where we were staying the Florida. My mom and I talked more and more about going to a game, and then it turned out that my mom purchased us each a ticket ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I noticed that he was pretty tall when he walked out. When I came down the stairs with my sharpie baseball, there was a pretty good amount of kids already scattered around the fence waiting for an autograph. I was pretty much the only girl waiting, which felt kind of weird to me. Joe Biagini was really nice to all of the fans getting autographs. He would ask where people came from, if they re over for spring break, and he was thanking everyone for coming. Overall, from what I saw, he seemed like a pretty nice guy. I worked my way through the crowd of people to get my autograph. I was right up next to him! Thank you, I happily replied as he gave me my signed baseball. I made my way back through the crowd and showed my mom my autographed ball. That s cool! You might have not gotten Jose Bautista s, but you got Biagini s, she cheerfully said. I replied, Yep, it s better than nothing! Shortly after, Joe Biagini left, the Blue Jays mascot came out to sign. Ace was the bright blue jays name. I figured that I might as well get his autograph. There really wasn t a lot of people getting his autograph, so it didn t take a while to wait for it. At the end of the day I got two autographs, saw the Blue Jays win, and saw Jose Bautista for the very first time! It s something that I don t think I will ever forget, and it all happened in just ...
