How does my Magazine represent
different social groups?

Age

In my magazine pages, my magazine
primarily represents a male audience,
which is who I originally identified in my
brief. I have achieved this using mostly
male artists and groups, as well and using
darker colours that appeal more to a male
audience.

My magazine will have a strong appeal
to an audience between 15 and 22. All
of the artists mentioned were popular
on my original questionnaire, which
was completed by people within that
age range.

However, the magazine will still also
appeal to female fans of ‘indie’ music.
There is a few female artists / bands
included, and I have made sure that the
content isn’t gender specific, like fashion
or sports).

Another reason my magazine will be
popular with a younger audience is
because of the primarily younger artists
and musicians included, on the cover,
contents and double page spread.
Despite this, my magazine could still
interest older readers, as I have
included mentions of older artists and
bands such as Paul Weller, Pink Floyd
How does my Magazine represent
different social groups?
Fans of ‘Indie’ Music

Fans of ‘Mod’ Music

My magazine will appeal most to fans of
indie music, which is both the lesser
known, ‘underground’ independent bands,
and the popular indie bands.

Fans of the ‘Mod genre of music should
also enjoy my magazine. The appeal of
this genre within my magazine isn’t as
strong as the appeal with fans of indie
music.

The first way in which I have attempted to
achieve this is by using various colours
that are mostly associated with indie
music, such as red and green.
The bands I have mentioned are all bands
which were popular with fans of indie
music in my questionnaire. This is another
way of allowing my magazine to appeal to
fans of indie music.

My magazine will interest fans of this
genre because of various font &
vocabulary choices. For example, my
magazine is entitled ‘Underground’, which
is a title that would be popular with ‘mod’
listeners because of its links with mod
band ‘The Jam’. I have also used various
fonts which are similar to those used by
the London Underground, which helps to
convey this theme.

  • 2. How does my Magazine represent different social groups? Gender Age In my magazine pages, my magazine primarily represents a male audience, which is who I originally identified in my brief. I have achieved this using mostly male artists and groups, as well and using darker colours that appeal more to a male audience. My magazine will have a strong appeal to an audience between 15 and 22. All of the artists mentioned were popular on my original questionnaire, which was completed by people within that age range. However, the magazine will still also appeal to female fans of ‘indie’ music. There is a few female artists / bands included, and I have made sure that the content isn’t gender specific, like fashion or sports). Another reason my magazine will be popular with a younger audience is because of the primarily younger artists and musicians included, on the cover, contents and double page spread. Despite this, my magazine could still interest older readers, as I have included mentions of older artists and bands such as Paul Weller, Pink Floyd

Fans of ‘Indie’ Music Fans of ‘Mod’ Music My magazine will appeal most to fans of indie music, which is both the lesser known, ‘underground’ independent bands, and the popular indie bands. Fans of the ‘Mod genre of music should also enjoy my magazine. The appeal of this genre within my magazine isn’t as strong as the appeal with fans of indie music. The first way in which I have attempted to achieve this is by using various colours that are mostly associated with indie music, such as red and green. The bands I have mentioned are all bands which were popular with fans of indie music in my questionnaire. This is another way of allowing my magazine to appeal to fans of indie music. My magazine will interest fans of this genre because of various font & vocabulary choices. For example, my magazine is entitled ‘Underground’, which is a title that would be popular with ‘mod’ listeners because of its links with mod band ‘The Jam’. I have also used various fonts which are similar to those used by the London Underground, which helps to convey this theme.
