2. How does your product use or
challenge conventions and how
does it represent social groups or
issues?
3. There is a huge chunk of audience who
prefer romantic films over any other genre,
and adding a tragedy to the love story is
like icing on a cupcake for the audience.
They just love it. I took inspiration from
various Hollywood and bollywood movies
like a walk to remember, the longest ride,
and rocky handsome. The genre of my film
is romantic-thriller. I am portraying the love
story of a guy and girl. The guy will take
revenge of murdering the love of his life. I
am following the conventions of romance
with the help of flashbacks and romantic
background scores. The thriller
convention will also be fulfilled as we don’t
know who the killer is or who made the
mystery phone call.
4. This is a scene from my film. The guy is
singing on the guitar for the girl, hence
following the cliché romantic convention.
7. My product represent social groups of females,
mostly women over 22, as it’s a love-story that
revolves around the girl. As we can see that the
guy is remembering flashbacks of his memories
with the girl. The cast in my film belongs to a
middle-class.The social isssue that im trying to
represent is murder and revenge. In any society
we look in today murdering the innocent is a
huge problem specially when the murderer is a
high class person who can escape the law easily.
8. How does your product engage with
audience and how would it be
distributed as real media text?
9. My media product is aimed at the teens and mostly
females of age 18 and above as they are interested in
love stories and tragedies. My objective is to entertain
the audience. Love is feeling which many people
associate to so I think they will be able to relate with
my story. The background scores which are of romantic
tunes will also engage the audience with my film giving
them a real feel. Adding thriller with romance is
something new and I think this would even attract the
male audience to watch my movie.
The unique selling point of my movie would be that im
mixing two opposite type of genres that is romantic and
thriller. This would give the audience a new mix match.
I believe this is why audience will be attracted to watch
my film. I guess this has never been done before so it
is a good opportunity for me.
10. I would like Summit Entertainment
to distribute my film as they are
a subsidiary of Lions Gate
Entertainment and they have
distributed a lot of romantic
films, like Letter’s to Julliet.
Another reason to choose them
is that they also distribute films
of independent studios.
11. They have also distributed 6 films in 2016 which are :
-The Perfect Match
-Gods of Eygpt
-Norm of the North
-Busco Novio Par Mi Mujer
-The Choice
-Dirty Grandpa
most by any distributor up till now.
12. My next idea would to be release my films on
dvds after a month it releases in theatres and
maybe release it on itunes for buying. After
that I will release it on Netflix too. I will make
a twitter handle and Facebook page for
promotions. I will make customized
merchandises such as mugs and shirts of my
film with help of dexpel.comThis will even
help further attract more audience, and my
film would reach maximum people.
13. How did your production skills
develop throughout this project?
14. This project has allowed me
to increase my
knowledge about how
film studios produce,
distribute and exhibit a
film. I created a story-
board initially for all my
scenes to help me
decide how I want to
execute the scenes and
what camera angles I
want to shoot with. I shot
each scene with different
camera angles and
learned the importance
of editing. I learned how
to edit videos in a way
that I only put necessary
details. For every genre
there is different style of
editing. I have used
basic editing that is cut
scene from one shot to
another. I even learned
how to use the rule of
3rds while making a
video.
That’s me
editing my
film.
My
storyboard
15. I have used fade-out
technique and jump-cuts in
my film to show the
transition between actual
scene and the flashbacks.
My editing rate is slow to
create the melo-drama or
sad feel.
I got to know about the mise
en scene, it consists of
costume, action, make-up,
props and setting. I have
used basic costumes not
too glamorous. The setting
I chose was a graveyard, a
park, and a food-court. All
natural settings. I have
used 3 props which are a
flower, a phone and a book.
16. There are 2 types of lighting, that is high-key and
low-key. High-key lighting is used for a scene
which needs bright light and everything is visible
and clear. I have used high-key lighting as I
needed the day time. My scenes were shot in
daytime to avail from the natural light.
I learned about different types of sound that are
digectic and non-digectic. I learned how to dub
dialogues in sync with the video. I have used
both digetic and non-digetic sounds. The digetic
sounds are the ambient sounds of the traffic and
birds, while non-digetic are the background
scores and music.
17. I researched online and I conducted audience surveys with
the help of questionnaires, to research on what type
genre films do audience prefer the most. The results are
as follows. Out of 20 people 10 were interested to see a
romantic film. And when I asked about the thriller effect
they were more keen to watch.
18. Extreme Close-Up Shot to show
personal memories of the guy.
Establishing shot from a high-
angle.
19. Point of view shot
of the guy.
High-angle shot of
the guy.
21. I used two editing software's which are windows movie
maker and imovie. I shot some scenes in my film with the
help of a tripod, and the whole film is shot with a Nikon
d3200. all of my shots were shot in raw format
1920x1080p in manual mode. I did not need to use any
lighting device as my scenes demanded high key lighting
so I shot in day time for natural light. I downloaded
sounds from many various websites for my background
score and effects. I took help from slideshare.net to learn
more about media studies. I watched loads of short-films
on vimeo.com and youtube.com for inspiration.
