Filmdistributorsare imperative in ensuringthe productmeetsthe intendedaudience aswell asdealing
withthe marketingof differentfilms.Theyare companieswhoare responsible forgettingfilmsinto
cinemas,ontoDVDsor Blu-raysandonto biggercompanieslikeNetflix andITunes.Once the filmhas
reachedcinemas,the filmdistributorsthendecide whenthe filmwillbe shownonTV and whatchannels
it will be shownon. ParamountPicturesandUniversal Picturesare bothexamplesof studioswiththeir
ownfilmdistributors.
The primarytarget audience forourfilm, Riverside, isfemalesoverthe age of 35 yearsold.The
secondarytargetaudience ismalesoverthe age of 35 yearsold.AfteranalysingUKFilmCouncil
information,itbecame apparentthatoverhalf of the Britishpopulationchose towatch
thriller/suspensefilms,thisbeingthe genre of ourfilm.For thisreasonwe have decidedthatourfilm is
a mainstreamfilmsorequiresamajordistributor.
As ourfilmdistributorwe have chosenStudioCanal.StudioCanal
have distributedmanymainstreamfilmsthathave become very
successful,theyalsohave goodknowledgeatdistributingthrillers
such as ‘Terminator2’whichmade $519.8 million atthe box office and‘Non-stop’whichmade $222.8
million.
As previouslymentionedourprimaryandsecondarytargetaudience are femalesandmalesoverthe age
of 35 yearsold.Thisisa verywide targetaudience soIwouldexpectour filmtobe showninmultiplex
cinemaslike ‘Odeon’and‘Vue’. The thriller‘TinkerTailorSoliderSpy’wasshowninOdeoncinemas,as
well asmanyothermultiplex cinemas,andthe filmmade $80.6 million. The factoverhalf of the British
populationchoose towatchthrillermakesusbelieve the filmismainstreambecausethiscreatesalarge
target audience.
Due to our maintarget audience beingoverthe age of 35 years old,we’ve
decidedthatYouTube isone way we can advertise ourfilmbecausehalf of
all people whowatchYouTube are overthe age of 35. Men and women
watch verydifferentthingsonYouTube,forexample the mostpopular
categoryfemaleswatchis ‘make-upandcosmetics’whereasformenit’s
‘soccer’.The bestway to promote ourfilmtoboth malesandfemalesoverYouTube wouldbe toshow a
trailerof our filmbefore,orduring, the differenttypesof video categoriesthatwomenandmensoit
reachesa wide audience.
Anotherappropriate waytopromote ourfilm toour target audience isduringTV advertisements.
Statisticsshowthatolderwe get,the more TV we watch and as our targetaudience isover35 year olds,
we believeTV isa good way to attract our target audience.

As well asTV, I think social mediaisaneffective waytopromote ourfilm.
Worldwide,thereare over1.79 billionmonthlyactive Facebookusers,73% of
whichare aged30-49 years old.63% of 50-64 year oldsalsousedFacebook.Both
these categories featurethe age of our targetaudience soadvertisingourfilmon
Facebookwouldensure ourfilmreachesmanyof those inourtargetaudience.

Anotherappropriate waytopromote ourfilm toour target audience isduringTV advertisements. Statisticsshowthatolderwe get,the more TV we watch and as our targetaudience isover35 year olds, we believeTV isa good way to attract our target audience.

Worldwide,thereare over1.79 billionmonthlyactive Facebookusers,73% of whichare aged30-49 years old.63% of 50-64 year oldsalsousedFacebook.Both these categories featurethe age of our targetaudience soadvertisingourfilmon Facebookwouldensure ourfilmreachesmanyof those inourtargetaudience.
