What kind of media
institution might distribute your media product and why?

The kind of media institution that would distribute our media product would be a television and film
distribution company that specialised in distribution of action films. The film would likely receive
funding from the British Film Institute due tit's position as the British non-departmental public body
to develop and promote the film industry in the UK. However due to the lack of funding that the
title sequence of “Operation Croak” received and the lack of advertisement it received, it would
likely be distributed in a straight to DVD format which would be an example of non-theatrical
distribution. The distribution company would likely have to be large to major film company as in
independent filming, the action genre is not often explored. I discovered this whilst attending the
2012 European Independent Film Festival. I learnt that the Independent film industry was largely
consistent of films from the genres of romance, documentaries and comedies. This discovery has
led me to believe that an independent film distribution company would not distribute our product
due to the lack of demand for action films in that line of industry.

A major film distribution company that would likely distribute our piece would be Columbia
Pictures whose ident we used for our sequence. Columbia Pictures is an American film production
and distribution company. Columbia Pictures is owned by Sony Pictures Entertainment which is a
subsidiary of the Japanese media conglomerate Sony. It is one of the leading film companies in the
world. Columbia Pictures have been known for distributing Action films which have been large
successes in terms of grossing profits in the UK and US box office which would be a beneficiary
factor if they were to distribute our film. Examples of such films which are similar to”Operation
Croak” are “xXx” which grossed $277,448,382 USD worldwide and “Bad Boys 2” which grossed
$273,339,556 USD worldwide.
