Vertigo Films and Revolver Pictures would be suitable distribution companies for the independently produced thriller film "The Vine Project" because both companies specialize in distributing similar low-budget, independent films in both the UK and US markets. Vertigo Films in particular has experience distributing films from the same thriller genre. Releasing the film first through online streaming platforms as well as film festivals could help build an audience without large marketing costs before a wider theatrical release in October to capitalize on Halloween interest in horror films.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

We all have good and bad thoughts from time to time and situation to situation. We are bombarded daily with spiraling thoughts(both negative and positive) creating all-consuming feel , making us difficult to manage with associated suffering. Good thoughts are like our Mob Signal (Positive thought) amidst noise(negative thought) in the atmosphere. Negative thoughts like noise outweigh positive thoughts. These thoughts often create unwanted confusion, trouble, stress and frustration in our mind as well as chaos in our physical world. Negative thoughts are also known as “distorted thinking”.
The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.
The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.
2. WHAT IS A MEDIA
INSITUTION
A MEDIA INSTUTION IS A COMPANY
ORGANISATINON THAT IS ACCOUNTABLE FOR A
MEDIA TEXT. THIS COULD BE THROUGH
MARKETING, PRODUCTION, DISTRIBUTION OR
REGULATION.
THE TWO DISRIBUTIORS THAT I MIGHT USE TO
DISTRBUTE OUR FINAL PRODUCT ARE:
VERTIGO FILMS
REVEL PICTURES
3. WHAT KIND OF MEDIA INSTITUION MIGHT DISTRIBUTE YOUR
MEDIA PRODUCT AND WHY?
From the outset, as a group we decided that our final product
should be an independently produced and distributed and not
for the wider mass ‘block buster’ film market.
Therefore we went with the idea to use two distribution
companies that distribute the thriller genre and low-budget
films; as it would be appropriate for multiple small distribution
companies to work in corporation in order to help promote
each other. (cross-converging.) Moreover if the film was a
success to the wider audience, a higher profit would be
made.
From research mass market thrillers are not usually the
thrillers that we have gone for. The big box office, thrillers are
films that include a from the crime genre, usually distributed
from a well known distributor like 20th Century Fox or Warner
Bros
4. Independent Distributors
The small distribution companies that I feel would be
appropriate would be:
Vertigo Films
Revolver Pictures
Because both of these companies are UK bases and
have been involved with a number of successful film
and have distributed thriller films like ours. Moreover
the companies are making names for themselves
with Vertigo films distributions a new horror thriller,
‘The facility’
5. Vertigo Films is a British Film production and
distribution company based in London, England and
was founded in 2002 by Allan Niblo and James
Richardson.
It has been responsible for many independent films
such as Interception, Bronson and has gone on to
produce 28 films and distribute a further 35. I have
decided to use this distributor since it has already
distributed a film from the same sub- genre we have
chosen. Recently it distributed ‘LETS BE EVIL(2016),’
which gained above ratings from Metacritic and
gained three stars. While it is a horror/Sci-Fi thriller,
which is similar to ours therefore I believe it is a
respectable candidate to distribute a film like ours.
6. Revolver entertainment is a film distributor based in
London, UK and the United States and was founded by
Justin Marciano in 1997. While they have been around for
20 years the majority of the films they have distributed
have been from the last 6 years.
Revolver entertainment have worked on many popular
independent films and a variety of films from different sub-
genres. I believe that this company would be suitable to
distribute, The Vine Project due to the distribution of ‘An act
of war’ which received 90% positive reviews on Rotten
Tomatoes.’ However this film is an action thriller and not a
horror thriller, it still shows that they are capable of
distribution many films from different sub-genre, therefore I
believe that they are suitable to distribute our film. As well
as this the film is currently able to stream on Netflix, which
could be another platform to showcase our film.
7. Local Distribution
I deliberately chose two UK based distribution companies
as this would make the communication between them
easier. Moreover it would mean that it would save our
group money when we had to commute to the company
headquarters.
As well as this I decided to use a company that has been
around for longer (20 years) as well as a younger company
to give, newer fresher ideas on how to distribute the film.
With both companies from the UK, this is beneficial as we
intend to only release the film in the UK to start with, if the
film gets enough recognition we would use Revolver
Entertainments in the United States as a means of
distributing it there.
Since the two companies majority work with independent,
low budget films, our film is the ideal product to sell and
distribute.
8. What is the best means of
distributing your product
Personally, I believe that the best means to distribute ‘The
Vine Project’ is through online services such as Netflix, Hulu
and Amazon Prime, as research shows that the majority of 15
year olds now stream Films on the internet.
Another reason is that this would be a form of convergence,
and it would help the distribution companies gain popularity
without having to spend masses of money marketing the film
and gaining interest from the Box office. Moreover by using
the internet to distribute/stream the film it is a way of
‘advertising’ it ‘freely’ using social media as a way to spread,
the film by hashtag.
In addition, the film could also be distributed at film festivals,
allowing a wider audience from different sub-genres to see
the trailer of the film and snippets of the film. Furthermore by
distributing it at a film festival would increase the popularity by
word of mouth..
9. When would the
companies distribute it
I would make the companies distribute it in the month
of October since that is when Halloween is.
Since Halloween is what teenagers associate with
horror and feeling scared. Some people only liked to
be scared once a year and the market for scary films
during this time increased therefore meaning that
more people will want to see The Vine Project.
As well as this the companies could have a tie-in
with Thorpe Park’s Fright Night series, to promote the
film. In doing this they could create a horror maze
based on our film.
