Evaluation Question 6:
What have you learnt about technologies in the process of constructing your
product?
By Sophie Bennett.
Technologies:
I used three different types of technologies during the process of making
my film.
• Hardware- Making of the film.
•Software- Editing process of the film.
•Online- research of previous films.
Hardware: Computer
Mac Computers: Firstly I used Mac computers throughout the
whole process of making my film. This was for a number of
reasons. For example:
• Researching
•Editing
•Evaluating
I have had previous experience with using the Mac computers,
therefore I knew what to do and where all the applications are.
Hardware: Nikon D3200
Camera: For the filming process of making my film I used my own
camera (Nikon D3200). Due to this camera being my own I had lots
of experience using it and was able to do a number of different
takes on the film opening because didn’t have to share college
cameras. Therefore I believe I was able to reach my full potential. I
was very confident in using this camera for filming as it was my
own so I knew how everything worked and if anything went wrong I
would quickly be able to fix it.
Hardware: Dolly & tripod
Dolly: In the production stage of making my film I used a dolly shot going around
the main characters bed while sleeping. This was to show the setting (bedroom)
and allow the audience to engage with the character. I had practiced using the
dolly in previous lessons so when it came to using it I knew what I was doing.
Also I understood how to keep the dolly in the right position in order for it to look
good and steady.
Tripod: Throughout the whole time I was filming I used a tripod to stand the
camera on. This was because I wanted my shots to look professional and didn’t
want it to look like I had filmed with a handheld camera, therefore the tripod kept
the camera steady so the shots were clear. I had learnt how to put up the tripod
and change the height so I knew how to do it when it came to filming.
Hardware: Sound recorder
H1 Zoom: For all of the audio in my opening I used the H1 Zoom to
record it. I had practiced recording sound before I did it for my film. This
allowed me to know how to record, listen to the recordings and delete
them.
Boom: I also used the boom when recording audio, this allowed the audio
to be clear and easy to hear. When using the boom it had to be close
enough to the characters but I couldn’t get in the shot. I had practiced
using this before so I knew roughly how close it had to be to the
characters in order for the recording to be as clear as possible.
Software: Livetype
I used livetype to make my production logo for my film. Livetype
was exciting to use because I had never used it before, however
once practicing it with other titles, it was easy to make a very good
production logo for my film. Due to practicing livetype before
making my actual production logo I knew witch effects I liked,
therefore when it came to making my production logo it didn’t take
very long.
Software: Premiere Pro
I used premiere pro throughout the whole editing process of my
film. This is how I put my whole film all together and made the
different shots flow together. I have learnt a number of different
skills from premiere pro. For example: making clips faster or slower,
changing colour, cropping the shots and cutting ect. Premiere pro
also allowed me to edit music and audio into my film. I had
practiced using this software before I made my film, therefore I
knew how to work the software when it came to editing my final
film.
Software: Power Point
Throughout the process of pre production I used power point to
present my research that I had found out. Power point was an easy
and quick way to present my work but still looked professional. I
have used power point before, therefore when it came to using it I
knew how everything worked.
Online: Youtube
I used youtube to look at existing horror openings, this was part of
my research. I also used youtube when importing my movies, in
order to be able to get my movies onto my blog.
Online: Prezi& Slide share
I used slide share to import all of my documents, therefore I was
able to post them onto my blog easily and they looked professional.
I also used Prezi to present my work in a different way to Power
point. Prezi was a more complex way to present my work but due
to the number of times I used it, it got easier each time. The
templates on Prezi also had more variety.
Online: Google
Google was a very important search engine for the process of
research. I made sure that my information I got from Google was
reliable. Due to having easy access to the internet/Google it
allowed me to research anything I was unsure about, therefore I
gained understanding of knew things.
Online: Blogger
I used blogger through the whole process of making my film.
Blogger was where I presented all of my work, this allowed me to
keep it organized and it looked very professional and was clear to
read and look at. After using blogger for a while it became very
easy to use, the blog has labels on the right hand side so it is easy
to find specific work if I needed to.
