The document discusses the effectiveness of combining a brand's main products and ancillary texts. It analyzes the similarities between the author's fashion advertisements, pop-up content, and sponsorship materials for a children's spring/summer line. Key similarities included using the same model, font, logo, color scheme, outfits displayed, lighting style, and theme of fun and happiness. These consistent visual elements allowed the audience to easily identify the products and brand across different platforms, strengthening brand recognition and creating an effective multi-channel advertising strategy.

1. Question 2-How effective is the combination of
your main product and ancillary texts?
By Sophie Bennett.
2. Introduction:
• To make sure that my main product and ancillary texts are an effective
combination I had similarities between them. Meaning links were made
within my adverts, sponsorship & pop-up. For example:
- Model
- Font
- Logo
- Colour Scheme
- Clothes/outfits
- Lighting
- Theme(Spring/Summer)
• This allowed my brand to stick in the audiences mind and allowed the
audience to identify that they are advertising the same collection.
3. Model:
The main Similarity between my ancillary texts and main
products is the use of the same model. As you can see from
the images to the right, I have used the same model in both
my pop up for ancillary and advert for main. I also used the
same model for my sponsorship sequence. This allows the
audience to see the connection between them and makes the
model recognisable to my audience. This is effective
because both products are shown on different platforms,
therefore the audience are more exposed to the model and
start to recognise the company as when the model is
advertised the company is too.

4. Font & Logo:
• When looking at my main products and ancillary
texts, both the font and logo I used are the same. I
used the same font throughout as it linked to the
fun/happy atmosphere that was portrayed
throughout my adverts, pop-up & sponsorship. I
used a wave font effect to show movement and
make the logo more child like as my collection is a
children's range. I used the same logo on all of my
products (pop-up, sponsorship, advert 1 & 2) to
link them all together. I also used the same font for
the offer bubbles on my pop-up as it was important
that the font on my pop-up was all the same. By
using this same font throughout it makes the font
become individual to my company and campaign. I
did this to ensure that the combination of both
main products and ancillary texts are effective as it
allows my brand logo to be advertised on many
different platforms.

through my pop-up and sponsorship on the

5. Colour scheme:
Main Products
• The colour scheme for advert one was very girly,
bright and mainly pink as it was a girls
Spring/Summer fashion advert.
• For my second advert again I used bright colours
to link with the theme of the advert
(spring/summer) but also incorporated some darker
navy colours along with other shades of blue as it
was a boys Spring/Summer fashion advert.
• I used different colour schemes for both adverts to
separate the two adverts as one was for girls
fashion and the other was for boys fashion.
However throughout I linked the two together
through the use of bright colours.
Ancillary Texts
• The same use of bright colours flowed
throughout my pop-up. I also included the key
colours pink and blue. This is an effective
combination as it indicates that my collection is
for both boys & girls. This also continued in my
sponsorship as I incorporated the use of bright
colours and used a blue background.
6. Outfits:
• Another link between my main
product ancillary texts is the outfits
worn by the model. I have
incorporated the same outfits into my
advert that I used for the pop-up
photo shoot. I did this because in
main products I included different
styles of clothing, for example:
dressy/night wear, daytime going out
wear and casual wear. Therefore in
my pop-up I included a photograph
of each style of clothing. This was
effective combination as it allowed
my audience to see all the styles of
clothing within the collection in both
manin products and ancillary texts.
Dressy/night wear
Casual wear
Daytime going out wear
The use of same outfits used are shown
through the pop-up above & advert 1 on the
following slide…
7. Lighting:
• Within both main products and ancillary texts I
used high key lighting which is soft and
creates no shadows, I did this because it was a
common convention and high key lighting is
bright, this helped me portray my theme of
spring/summer. Therefore this is another link
between main products and ancillary texts.
This was an effective combination as it made
my theme of spring/summer flow across the
whole production of both main products and
ancillary texts.
8. Theme:
• Throughout both main products and ancillary texts there is a strong link
through the theme that is portrayed. The collection that I was advertising was
spring/summer which is a link in itself as this was advertised throughout
with the use of summery clothes but this also allowed me to portray a fun,
happy & lively atmosphere. Firstly this is shown in both adverts as the
models are smiling, laughing, dancing and having fun. The same atmosphere
is also shown in my pop up as the model is smiling and making girly poses at
the camera.
The use of the same theme being portrayed is shown
above through my pop-up and both advert 1 & 2 on
the following slide…
