The document discusses how new technologies were used at various stages of creating a music video project on the artist Kate Nash. Survey Monkey and Facebook were used to create and distribute a questionnaire for primary research. Blogger was used to upload research findings. Google was used for background research on the artist. YouTube provided examples of the artist's style and videos by others. Photoshop was used to create rough plans. A MacBook, Final Cut Pro, Canon camera and tripod were used for video editing and construction. Microsoft PowerPoint and Word were used to analyze and present final research findings, and SlideShare allowed presentations to be uploaded and embedded in a blog.
1. HOW DID YOU USE NEW TECHNOLOGIES
IN THE CONSTRUCTION, RESEARCH AND
PLANNING AND EVALUATION STAGES?
Media Evaluation Question 4
2. RESEARCH PROCESS
To help us with our primary research we used survey monkey in order to
create the questionnaire from which we gathered information about our
audience. We found that it was quick and easy to use and setting up an
account was uncomplicated which helped speed up the research process.
We also used it to collect and analyse the results at the end.
The next thing we did was use Facebook where we uploaded our
questionnaire straight from survey monkey. This helped us get
more people that filled our questionnaire as there were a lot of
people on there that liked Kate Nash and were ready to help.
3. RESEARCH PROCESS
We also used blogger to upload our research and the
results of our research onto. This made it easy for
everyone who was interested in our blog to see what
work we have done in the planning process before we
had even started filming the video.
We also used Google in order to find out as much
information about the artist as possible. Google was
used at all stages of the process of making our video as
we found a variety of websites which helped us gain an
understanding of the character’s personality.
YouTube was another website that we used a lot
during the process of our primary research as we
looked at all of Kate Nash’s videos to gain a real
understanding of her style as well as other videos
on YouTube that other people had created on her
songs.
4. PLANNING PROCESS
In order to draw rough flat plans for our digipak and
our advert we used Photoshop. It took us a while to
get used to using it again, however once we had
used it a few times and with the help of our teacher
we improved our skills and started to use it even
more often as we found it useful.
The use of a computer, the internet and
Internet Explorer in particular helped us find
sample images that we could use for our flat
plans. We did not have images of our own yet
as we hadn’t started the filming process and
this was still the early stages of our work.
5. CONSTRUCTION PROCESS
There were many unfamiliar pieces of technology that we used in
our construction process. It took us a while to work out how they
work, however once we got to grips with it, we found it
straightforward, reliable and useful.
A Mac Book was one thing that we hadn’t used
that much before and we found it that it was very
different to a normal computer/laptop.
Fortunately, we didn’t find it difficult to operate on
it.
Final Cut Pro was an editing programme on our Mac
laptop that I had never used before, however I had
heard people say that it is very helpful. Once we found
out how to use if and all of the things we could do with
it such as special effects, we were able to use it to its’
full capacity.
6. CONSTRUCTION PROCESS
Another piece of technology we used was a Canon
SLR Camera which helped us take pictures for our
digipak and advert as well as the video itself. We
found that it was able to produce pictures and shots
of an excellent quality that a normal camera wouldn’t
allow us to do.
Along with the camera we found that we had to
use a tripod in order to get the camera in a
steady position and therefore make our video
look professional. The tripod was quite
straightforward to use and it was of great help
to us as we used it for most parts of the filming
of our video.
7. EVALUATION PROCESS
We used Microsoft PowerPoint and
Microsoft Word which helped us present
analysis of the final research that we
had done. Microsoft PowerPoint helped
us present them in an organised way
which was more interesting and varied
and we though people would like as it
showed creativity.
I also used slide share, where I could
upload all of my presentations and embed
them onto Blogger afterwards. This
website was extremely helpful as it was
the only one that would allow me to post
me presentations on my blog.
