English Language Learners For My Assessment
Profile
The intended English language learners for my assessment would be primary aged students who are at
the beginning level, according to WIDA. Primary aged students are students in kindergarten through
grade 2, and WIDA describes students as beginning if they (a) understand and speak conversational
and academic English with hesitancy and difficulty, (b) understand parts of lessons and simple
directions, and (c) are at a pre emergent or emergent level of reading and writing in English,
significantly below grade level. (http://ell.dpi.wi.gov/sites/default/files/imce/ell/pdf/elp levels.pdf).
Although my students would be young, they could be classified as significantly below grade level if
they cannot identify letters and perform poorly on the kindergarten screening and running records.
Most ELL students at this age are not literate in their native language, which may make learning
English literacy more difficult.
Rationale
The test I designed I could currently use with some of the students in my classes. I teach kindergarten
and first grade English Language Arts and Social Studies and we have a moderate number of
immigrant students whose parents do not speak English. Although we do not have an ESL program,
our bilingual program draws many native Spanish speaking students to our school because their
families want them to maintain their Spanish. We also have immigrant students from other countries,
such as Middle Eastern and African countries. This exam covers some of

Analysis Of Fast Times At Ridgemont High
In Fast Times at Ridgemont High, characters engage in many expressive relationships that weaken the
status hierarchy often found in the high school setting. The mall is the common gathering place for
characters outside of school, and status relations are easily visible here (Heckerling, 1982). Since the
mall is such an integral part of the film, one witnesses the shift of status relations over time. According
to a 2000 study, For these young people the mall was a social magnet that drew them away from the
hassles encountered at home and school towards a haven of warmth and safety. He describes the mall
as a kind of neutral ground (Matthews, 2000). Mark Rat Ratner works in the mall as assistant to the
assistant manager at the movie theater, which is clearly not the most prestigious job on that side of the
mall. Stacy Hamilton, on the other hand, works at Perry s Pizza Parlor, a seemingly higher ranked job.
With a bit of help from Damone, however, Mark approaches Stacy at the mall to ask her on a date.
This begins the friendship and future romance between them, establishing an expressive relationship
that connects the slightly awkward Mark to the popular Stacy. The strict status hierarchy associated
with high schools is diminished when popular individuals like Stacy do not mind interacting with and
creating strong relationships with those viewed as less popular, such as Mark. Additionally, Stacy s
brother Brad contributes to the deconstruction of status relations. A

Quetiapine And Olanzapine Case Study
Careful considerations based on the patient s medical history, required sedation level, individual risk
factors and tolerability on the side effect profiles such as weight gain, sleepiness, dry mouth,
extrapyramidal symptoms(EPS), hormonal changes and cardiovascular complications are essential.
Aripiprazole, quetiapine and olanzapine is preferred if EPS is of concern while aripiprazole has lower
risk in cardiovascular complications and metabolic syndrome. Among the newer antipsychotics,
amisulpride and aripiprazole should be considered for patients with high risk of diabetes and
hypertension. However when patient failed to respond to first antipsychotic drug in a minimum of 4 6

The Splatterhouse Video
Before watching the clips, I was feeling content. I was not frustrated with anything or anyone, I was
calm and I just watched a few funny videos, which brought my mood up even more. During the first
video, immediately, my thoughts were about the quality of the animation and the story line. As for the
violence, I didn t like looking at it. I tried to turn away a few times. I think that there was an excessive
amount of gore that could have been easily cut out, but it wasn t, because the viewers or the gamers
like it.
The second video was a lot worse in my opinion. The Splatterhouse video had some sort of story line
beside the gore, but this video only showed a first point view of a person killing people in many
different ways. Because of the quality of the video, I didn t actually see anything too graphic, but just
the idea of people enjoying this game made me a little scared for our society.
During the third video, I thought about how believable the scenes were. The lighting ... Show more

Gore and violence doesn t interest me and I actually turn away from the screen any time there s a
graphic scene in a movie, which explains why these clips didn t have any effect on me. The only clip
that slightly interested me was Saw. I thought that the story line was interesting, but I still wouldn t
watch the actual movie, because of the violent scenes that I would have to watch. Though I had almost
no interest in these videos and found most of the scenes repulsive, I caught myself on the thought that
by the time I was watching the fourth video, I got used to the violence portrayed in these videos. If the
first video made me want to turn away from the screen, the last video had no effect on me at all. I
believe that this explains the mere exposure theory. The only thing I did was sit and watch a few clips,
but the effect was that I became immune to the violence for at least some

Psychology and Yellow Bile Essay
1 29 12 Intro to Psychology Morgan Herda 1. Jack is a second grade student. He seems to have no
interest in learning, often daydreaming in class and frequently disrupting the class by throwing objects
at other students. Describe how a biopsychosocial approach might provide both an integrated
explanation of Jack s classroom behavior and practical suggestions for helping Jack to cope more
effectively with the challenges he faces. Jack is in second grade and is having a hard time behaving in
school. Such as not paying attention and disrupting the class. Those two factors seem to play into
integrated biopsychosocial. Biopsychosocial has three different elements to it: biological,

general logic of Hippocrates theory. The ancient Green physician Hippocartes believed blood, black

reasoning. 4. Describe how an understanding of both a normally functioning brain and a split brain

Braxton Bragg Research Paper
Braxton Bragg was born on March 22, 1817 in North Carolina (History.com). Bragg did not talk about
his parents but what we do know is that his dad was a contractor and his mom was arrested for killing
a freed slave. Though his parents were not the best, his brother was a politician who helped him get
into the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1833 (History.com). He flourished at the
academy and graduated one year later, he finished fifth out of fifty soldiers. Bragg was affiliated with
the military for the majority of his life, and served in two major wars before the civil war. He served in
the Second Seminole War and the Mexican American War. After returning from the Mexican
American War he was deemed a war hero. He later, in 1849 married Eliza Brooks Ellis who was a

with some of best trained troops in the Confederate Army. Next, Bragg was promoted to major general
and was sent to serve alongside of Albert Sidney Johnston in the war s Western Theater. Bragg s first
actual combat of the Civil War came in April of 1862 at the Battle of Shiloh in Tennessee. Bragg and
the confederates lost this battle, but he was glorified for executing an assault on a Union position
called the Hornets Nest. His partner in fighting, Albert Sidney Johnston died in the fighting on the

Struggle and Disillusionment in Hamlet Essays
Shakespeare s employment of dramatic struggle and disillusionment through his character Hamlet,
contributes to the continued engagement of modern audiences. The employment of the soliloquy
demonstrates Shakespeare s approach to the dramatic treatment of these emotions. The soliloquy
brings a compensating intimacy, and becomes the means by which Shakespeare brings the audience
not only to a knowledge of secret thoughts of characters, but into the closest emotional touch with
them too. Through this, the audiences therefore gain a closer relationship with Hamlet, and are
absorbed by him because they are able to resonate with his circumstances, as he is faced with enduring
truths of the human condition. Through these, the struggle and ... Show more content on

The struggle is suggested through the existential questions that Hamlet asks, suggesting a battle with
his conscience. The symbol of the world is a motif throughout the play, being described as flat , weary
, distracted , out of frame , out of joint , out of time , rotten and rank . Hamlet displays his struggle and
disillusionment for the world by using metonymy and juxtaposition throughout his soliloquy. Sea of
troubles and thousand natural shocks are alluded to in his speech in order to express his
disillusionment, communicating a counterpointing between the divine or earthly and the profane. This
idea is continues in O that this too too sullied ... (Act 1 Scene 2), His speech is saturated with
suggestions of rot and corruption, as seen in the basic usage of words like rank (138) and gross (138),
and in the metaphor associating the world with an unweeded garden (137). Shakespeare uses
juxtaposition and contrast to enhance these feelings of disgust, contempt and inadequacy.
Hamlet displays disillusionment about women throughout the course of the play. This struggle to
come to terms with his mother s second marriage and disillusionment from the pure and angelic
women is present from early on. In his first soliloquy, O that this too too sullied ... (Act 1 Scene 2),
Hamlet censures his mother s moral weakness as a woman (146). His disillusionment is shown when

comparing these careers starting with most important is need for soft skills, use of analytical skills,
opportunity to brainstorm or develop creative solutions, and marketplace demand for skills/job.
Financial advisors have to persuade clients to trust them with their money in order to grow it and
spend it wisely. They use their analytical skills to best determine when to buy and sell products. The
goal of a financial advisor is to find a solution for their clients where their money will grow or where
clients will not out live their money. Financial advisors interact with their clients daily updating them
on the status of their wealth as well as talking to representatives from different companies about funds
to invest in. As more and more baby boomers retire, they need help planning out their wealth so that
they do not out live it. Mutual fund wholesalers interact with clients

Strategic Management for Travel and Tourism
Introduction After examining different theories of organizational strategy we were able to apply each
case to our company and work. We also learned that there are two dominant methodologies,
categorized as planned/analytical and emergent approaches. These strategies provide much knowledge
and advice as to how to improve our organization. However, it is important to remember that these
theories are not perfect. They do not encompass every organizational situation and there are a lot of
circumstantial assumptions made as well. In the following discussion we will analyze the advantages
and disadvantages between these strategic theories. In addition I will reflect on how these approaches
may be used in my own real world situation. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Real world application As Hines (2004) points out, real world strategies are neither purely planned nor
purely emergent. Realized strategies are a combination of both deliberate and emergent strategies
(pg.197). I see benefits in both approaches, with a mix being the most advantageous and appropriate in
my industry/work. Due to the nature of our products and market (games and technology) things are
constantly in flux. Having a degree of planning is necessary to provide focus and direction for the
strategy of my organization. This can also assist in the evaluation and analysis of the decision
performance. My organization commonly uses this deliberate strategy in many situations. Most
recently when we chose to diversify our product line by investing in and releasing games for the
mobile platform. Most dominant however, is the emergent strategy, which allows us sufficient
flexibity to learn and adapt to changes in our environment. Supported by other approaches, I believe
my organization can continue being successful. These other supports include what Stonehouse (2002)
calls a competitive positioning and resources/competence based strategy. The competitive positioning
approach emphasizes the importance of not only the environment but the need of analyzing your
business in the context of its industry. The last support outlet (resources/competence), focuses on the
competitive advantage of your business; what are the company specific resources and how

Persuasive Essay On Xeriscaping
Water conservation is on a lot of people s minds these days. Droughts and a growing population put
stress on existing water supplies. That leads to the water restrictions that have become all too familiar
to Californians. What is the issue, though? Isn t 70% of the world is covered in water? Yes, but only
0.007% of all that water is considered potable or safe to drink. The water from your faucet is potable
water. Unfortunately, so is most of the water used in irrigation to keep a lawn green. In a desert
climate, keeping lawns green means using a huge amount of potable water. To reduce their water
consumption, many homeowners are looking for a landscaping alternative to big lawns. Xeriscaping is
that alternative.
What is Xeriscaping?
Xeriscaping is a landscaping approach that aims to maximize water conservation while still giving you
an appealing yard. This is done with a careful combination of plant selection, plant placement,
mulching and cutting back on grass lawn areas.
The ideal situation is to create a yard that doesn t ever need you to water it. At a practical level, that s
not always possible. Choices about new plants, types of mulch, and whether to retain any existing
grass will all determine to your final water needs. The odds are good that you ll need some level of
irrigation, but at a drastically reduced level.
Desert Xeriscaping
Since desert areas are already water starved, it s easy to imagine desert xeriscaping as a study in cacti
and gravel. Cacti are

A Verb Of The Verb
Introduction :
A denominal verb is a grammatical form that refers to an element which originates as a noun but is
used in someway in sentence as a verb. A denominal verb is much distinct than other typical verbs that
are originally born functioning as verbs, i.e, they historically used to be nouns before they underwent
some operations that contributed in the transformation of their lexical category. The following
example illustrates this notion :
1) a. He spent the summer in liverpool
b. He summered in liverpool.
Sentence (1a) involoves two essential parts of our analysis. It is comopsed of a verb (to spend ) and
the noun (summer ) , while sentence (2b) includes one essential element which is the verb ( to summer
) . thus , the reader can notice that the meaning remains the same even though the number of elements
that form sentence (2b) is reduced . The change in the form of the noun ( summer) into a verb (to
summer) can be seen as a result of a grammatical function changing process that will be much
discussed in chapter 3.Transforation rules took to affect the argument noun (summer) and merge with
another head to move from the object position to the predicate position (Baker 1988) . This chapter
will shed lights on how government binding theory studied this phenomenon. The chapter is organized
as follows . Section 1 is an overview of denominal verbs in English. Section 2 brings to light a
semantic classification of denominal verbs

Ban On Immigration Research Paper
A Modest Proposal to Trump Concerning the Ban on Immigration The most recent news coming from
Washington is the immigration bill that Donald Trump has just signed into effect. This places a ban on
immigration for anyone that is a citizen or naturalized in Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and
Yemen. The problem is that Trump is banning a whole people based upon their country of origin when
truly only a very small majority of the people from there are coming for malicious reasons. Although
Trump s administration has tried to understate the importance of this act by addressing it as a,
temporary pause , citizens of these seven countries have had their lives in America come to a
screeching halt (Kennedy, Merit. NPR.org). The United States was built on the hard work and
desperation of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is a present disdain for the United States in those countries however this is an even larger reason
why this ban is simply idiotic. This will increase tensions and push these countries to develop
substantial contempt for the American people. Just because someone said they did not like the way
you built your sandcastle does not mean you have to go and destroy theirs just to prove that yours is
better. Educate them. Show them that this way is beneficial. Or ignore them and prove them wrong
through continued success and kindness.
I nominate that we lift the ban and instead make contact with the citizens of those countries to help
ease tensions and create an atmosphere of tolerance. I have been told that I am very good with crafts
so I propose that we make goodie bags. Like really good ones. They will be filled with objects and

The Native American Reservations Of The Native Americans
The Native American Reservations Imagine being told that if you migrate to a certain location you ll
be helped with nutrition and your finance will be covered. Sounds good right? Well this is what the
American government promised the Native Americans. A promise that wasn t granted. Many
reservations have actually created a sense of confinement and detachment. The reservations have
limited resources which separates them from the American Culture and society. This is shown through
the laws we ve passed to aid them, and the battle for other native Americans to stand up for their
rights. Also their constant struggle for justice. Native Americans have been widely ignored. Their past
and current struggles they face. Most Americans know all about know the happy Native Americans
that have been celebrated on thanksgiving, but don t seem to know the ones who fought for their rights
. Many Native Americans didn t have a voice, and some still don t. During World War I,
approximately 9,000 Native Americans fought and died while protecting their own country in return
they didn t have their rights granted to them. These rights included their Citizenship. Sounds kind of
crazy how you live on your own land but need a citizenship. Although, some Native Americans were

Comparison Of Grendel And Frankenstein
If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound? Similarly, if a being is
never provoked by man, will it become a monster? The latter is a question that is put into focus
throughout Gardner s Grendel and Shelley s Frankenstein. The reader learns of Grendel, and of
Frankenstein s creation, and must determine if they are truly monsters or merely a product of the
world they live in. It is very easy to take one glance at the seemingly heinous crimes committed by
Grendel and Frankenstein s creation, and based off of this, deem them to be monsters. However, it is
the actions and words of man that transform both Grendel, and Frankenstein s creation into monsters.
Both Grendel, and Frankenstein s creations go through personal transformations throughout their
lives. They both begin life as innocent creatures with no intention to wreak havoc. Victor Frankenstein
created his creature and then immediately ran away from it in fear. In reality, the creature just wanted
to be loved and His jaws opened, and he muttered some inarticulate sounds, while a grin wrinkled his
cheeks (Shelley 59). The creature was brought to life, and his first instinct was to emit a loving smile,
but he was met with a scream of terror. Similarly, Grendel began his life as a righteous and pure
creature. When Grendel was approached by drunken men wielding battle axes, he sank to my knees,
crying, Friend! Friend! (Gardner 52). This proves that Grendel s initial instinct was to befriend the
men, despite their hostile approach. While the men continued to hack at Grendel he merely held up a
body for protection (Gardner 52) instead of fighting back. Grendel could have easily overpowered and
killed the men if he wanted to but he chose to simply protect himself. Both creatures started off as
innocent and pure until man got involved. Grendel could only take so much neglect and abuse before
he transformed into the monster that readers recognize him to be. The actions of man were nothing
short of monstrous, and they caused Grendel to turn into a monster. The men did not allow Grendel
into the Mead Hall and they tried to kill him whenever they saw him. Even when man was not doing
something directly to Grendel, their

The Hollow Men Essay
At a point in all mortal s existence, there will be a moment when their soul is between two states of
being, waiting to be judged. Without the fearlessness and faith to move on to the afterlife, they will
spend eternity stuck in purgatory. When T. S. Eliot wrote The Hollow Men, he used symbolism,
imagery, and repetition to share his insight to address the lack of courage and faith that plagues every
human being. T. S. Eliot s The Hollow Men is a dramatic monologue, free verse poem that consists of
five parts that could be considered five separate poems. His use of allegorically abstract text
nevertheless achieves a remarkable unity of effect in terms of voice, mood and imagery (Morace 948).
Before the poem starts, there are two ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Part one of the poem opens with We are the hollow men, / We are the stuffed men (3 4). It also ends
with We are the hollow men, / We are the stuffed men (19 20). This use of this repetition is to
reinforce the notion that the hollow men are nothing but emptiness. The image of hollow men who are
Leaning together is one of immobility (Urquhart 199). Shape without form, shade without color, /
Paralyzed force, gesture without motion (13 14) confirms the image that the hollow men are
meaningless, nothing more than a scarecrow lacking embodiment or substance (Bloom 61). In part
two of the poem, Eliot uses eyes as an important and repeated image of spiritual insight (Bloom 61).
Unlike in part one where Eliot writes, Those who have crossed / With direct eyes, to death s other
Kingdom (15 16), In part two, the Hollow Men... have vision that is refracted and distorted (Bloom
61). Eyes I dare not meet in dreams In death s dream kingdom These do not appear: There, the eyes
are Sunlight on a broken column (21 25)
The image suggests a ruin in a classical landscape painting, a symbol of a broken down system of
belief (Bloom 61). The hollow men do not have the faith to be judged and move on to death s other
Kingdom. The lines in part three of the poem This is the dead land / This is cactus land
(41 42) serve as an image of a place lacking life.

Mead Hall In Beowulf
The mead hall was a major factor in the Anglo Saxon culture. As the two tribes, Angles and Saxons
joined together, they carried on their traditions of mead halls and brought them to England. The mead
halls not only brought them together, but it also made the Anglo Saxons feel safer and happier as a
culture when they gathered there. It acted as a safe haven for them to gather and celebrate, drink, and
talk. Scops would assemble a group of men and women to apprise them of epic tales. While other
times, the mead hall was used for celebrating their victories. Warriors often celebrated by drinking
mead and feasting together; they also used the mead hall as sleeping quarters. It was home to the king
who had warriors that would do anything their lord ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hrothgar rewards Beowulf and his warriors with gold treasures to celebrate their victorious battles and
accomplishments. The queen, Wealhtheow, bestows Beowulf with the golden cup along with a gold
necklace and armband. During the feast, Hrothgar gives his warriors gold treasures from his treasure
chest as an act of gratitude. In their culture, gold represents honor and most would do anything for it.
Gold is represented and displayed in Beowulf on the skin of Grendel, Grendel s mother, and the
dragon. It is also incorporated in the treasures. The dragon guards it his entire life, and it is the mission
of many, including Beowulf to slay the dragon to get the treasures he is protecting. The moments
before Beowulf dies, he asks Wiglaf to get him some of the dragon s gold so that his last sight could
be what he was fighting for. Treasures were also placed on Beowulf s funeral pyre. Grendel s arm and
the sword was another treasure that Beowulf earned. Because Beowulf killed Grendel by ripping off
his arm, Beowulf hung the arm to show and display in Heorot Hall; the sword was his weapon that he
took to try to defeat Grendel s mother. Grendel s arm showed his bravery and loyalty to his lord and
his men. He showed by example to his men that it takes courage and honor to fight for your life for
what you believe is right. When scops tell the story of Beowulf, it is an honor to him for the
community to hear in the mead hall. The characters and

Comparing The Sisters In Julia Alvarez s In The Time Of...
Julia Alvarez s novel, In the Time of the Butterflies (1994) centers around the lives of the four Mirabal
Sisters who courageously brought acknowledgement to the inhumane and brutal actions of Dictator
Rafael Trujillo and the treatment of women in a society where they were seen as property. In the 2001
film adaptation directed by Mariano Barroso, the film mainly centers on Minerva Mirabal, the
outspoken and rebellious sister. Despite bearing some minor similarities, there are more differences
between Julia Alvarez s In the Time of the Butterflies and Mariano Barroso s film both author/director

perspective of the sisters instead of only Minerva s, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The film fails to demonstrate each of the sister s perspective as they fight against Trujillo s regime and
their personal struggles as women in the Dominican Republic during the 1960s. While the novel
focuses on all the sisters lives as they fought for freedom and equal rights in the corrupt government,
the film focuses on Minerva s perspective as the first sister who decided to stand up against the
unfairness of Trujillo s rule. The focus on Minerva s perspective in the film, leads the viewer into
believing that the other sisters weren t as important as Minerva when trying to fight Trujillo, But then
again, here in that little room was the same Patria Mercedes, who wouldn t have hurt a butterfly,
shouting, Amen to the revolution. And so we were born in the spirit of the vengeful Lord, no longer
His lambs. (Chapter 8) The quote said by Patria in Chapter 8, shows how she risks her faith when
trying to protect the life of the innocent. She would rather throw down a vicious dictator than have
young innocent people killed. The film fails to demonstrate the strong themes of women and courage
expressed through the novel. The film chooses to skip over many important events, such as Patria

Essay on Respons to the case of contamination

ENGL 1004
Sept 16 2014
The acceleration of globalization has raised issues culture conformity and diversity throughout the
world. These topics are argued drastically throughout the world. Apparently, issues relate to cultures
will not simply defined by right or wrong because each coins have two sides and every culture have
their own advantages and drawbacks. True, many people may claim that globalization has made this
world smaller and the distinctions between nations or cultures are disappearing. But personally, I hold
positive opinions about the cultural developments nowadays.
The unchangeable rule of the nature is survival of the fittest , which means, whatever species,
communities, nations or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Apparently, the so called tradition, or convention, is not really easy or clear to define for the first
place. It seems like many innovation can become a tradition as time goes by. In this case, we shouldn t
deny the change or innovation in culture because we are really not sure if it is going to thrive in the
future.
Changes in cultures can sometimes help people to abandon old habits which are unfair, unhealthy etc.
In my opinion one of the major improvement is the shifted concept of gender equality. I believe
everyone is born equal, so I strongly support the idea that women deserve the right to choose what
they want and to abandon those conventional thinking. As is mentioned in the passage I believe that
women, like men, should have the vote, should be entitled to work outside their homes, should be
protected from the physical abuse of men, including their fathers, brothers and husbands. Thanks to
the improvements in culture, we can finally make some progresses on this issue. And as more and
more people have recognized the importance of women right problem, I believe the absolute equality
between men and women will sooner or later achieved. In the passage, the author also mentioned the
practice of foot binding in China , a rigid, insane and harmful tradition that persisted for a thousand
years and was largely eradicated within a generation. This reminds me of some other

Asian Carp And The New Carp
Over the course of the mid to late 20th century, five species of non native carp fish, collectively
referred to as Asian carp , have been introduced to the United States either for aesthetic purposes, to
supplement game fishing, or to help manage local pest species. Some of these carp species have
escaped into America s waterways and proved to be prolific breeders and voracious feeders, out
hunting and out breeding native species. As with any environmental issue, there exist many parties
who have differing points of contention over this problem and many different solutions have been
proposed to correct it. To resolve this issue will take a comprehensive analysis of the problem and an
examination of the participants involved, their perspectives on Asian carp, and how the proposed
solutions to this issue will affect them. Beginning in the 1830 s, five successive waves of foreign carp
species; grass, common, silver, bighead, and black carp, were introduced to the United States to help
improve the quality of agricultural ponds, but some of them subsequently escaped into the Midwestern
river systems (Koel, 2000, Pg. 1). Of these species, the two most infamous are silver and bighead carp.
Both species are filter feeders, and following their entry into the river systems in the eighties, they
have been competing with native filter feeders for food (Sampson, 2008, Pg. 483).
Asian carp grow in excess of five feet and can weigh upwards of 100 pounds. They are voracious

Food Contamination
The Center for Disease control has estimated that illnesses directly resulting from food contamination
cause approximately 76 million illnesses, 325,000 hospitalizations, and 5,000 deaths each year in the
United States. The rise of food related illnesses can be mostly attributed to increased eating out. Half
of every dollar spent on food in this country is spend on food prepared outside of the home. As the
amount of people involved preparing our food rises, so does the risk of contracting an illness from
food (Levitt). The people at the greatest risk are the elderly, infants, pregnant women, and those with

Slaughter From War Strikes Antietam Analysis
Slaughter from War Strikes Antietam!
On September 17th, The Battle of Antietam took place and is the bloodiest single day in American
History. Many men sacrificed their lives in this battle to protect what we hold dear in unity as a nation.
In this battle 23,000 casualties, dead, injured, and missing, were suffered in just 12 hours of
warfare(Staff 1).
The four men that lie dead in this photograph are all in an open field and all appear to be in Union
uniforms. These men were presumingly lined shoulder to shoulder, as is custom in war, while
advancing on the confederate soldiers lines. The fence behind these soldiers is missing many of its
planks suggesting that many bullets were fired at these soldiers as the advanced towards the
confederate lines. This fence is symbolic because with the fence post missing it truly shows the
amount of fire that these men were under as they marched their way across the battlefield(Battle of
Antietam 1).
This battle came after a brutal campaign by the South who had just won The 2nd Battle of Bull Run as
well as The Seven Days Battle. Lee s unprecedented plan to start invading the North was seen as
unorthodox because all the South needed to do was survive until the citizen s of the North got upset
with the war and lost the will to fight. Lee s plan to invade the North was to invade the Maryland
which remained loyal to the union and get a crushing blow in union territory. He was also hoping that
some dissenting slave owners in Maryland would join the Southern forces to help fight the North in
this battle. Unfortunately for Lee, when those that dissented saw the condition that his men were ...

Importance Of Rules In The Giver
While reading the book The Giver by Lois Lowry I noticed that there s a lot more rules than I thought.
Many of their rules are different than the rules we use now in our houses, at school, and other places
you go. The rules in this novel help you understand what the setting is and helps you picture or
visualize where you are. The role that the rules play in this utopian community are very unusual, but
helps you understand what is happening and what the community is like. The role of these rules is to
help everyone in that same community be equal. In the novel being equal is called sameness.
Everyone has to follow the same rules, at each age there is a ceremony. At each age each individual
that is the same age as you will get the same clothing or object. The rules play an important role,
because if these rules didn t apply, then you wouldn t be able to picture the story as well. You also
wouldn t be able to understand what the author is trying to tell you. In the book The Giver there are
many rules. Many of these rules I was surprised by. For example, there can only be two children, one
male, and one female per family unit. This was surprising to me at first before I got farther ... Show

The Underground Man By Fyodor Dostoyevsky
In Notes from the Underground by Fyodor Dostoyevsky, the underground man is a man who is living
out [his] life in a [his] corner (2) and is paralyzed by consciousness. The underground man proposes
the example of revenge as a way to examine the differences between himself and the man of action;
the man of action being a man who can act as opposed to the paralysis of the underground man. The
man of action can act, but his position is inconsistent. The underground man thinks he will be
miserable regardless of acting or not acting; his belief in determinism causes this and he reasons
incorrectly that determinism is true. The man of action and the underground man are determinists who
believe all they do is predetermined. They do not believe that they have the ability to commit an action
free of any predetermination or influence. All acts that happen are not by the choice of men; instead,
the laws of nature are the source of the action. The underground man states the laws of nature, the
deductions of natural science, mathematics (8) form a stone wall which cannot be broken. The laws of
nature do not require the consent of himself, the underground man thinks, it is a case of twice two
makes four! (8). To the underground man the man of action is happy and stupid, whereas the
underground man is unhappy and intelligent. The underground man then presents what act necessitates
revenge: the act of being slapped in the face. The case of the man of action is then presented. The

Betrayal In All Quiet On The Western Front
Has there really ever been a time in your life when everything has been all quiet? No matter who you
are, there is always something on your mind, or something that you have to deal with. There is really
only one way to achieve absolute quiet, and that is by death. War unfortunately gives millions of
people just that. All Quiet on the Western Front is a book that tells a story of young men and their
journey throughout WW1 from the German perspective. Three main points of war that will be
mentioned in this paper are betrayal, horror, and friendship. To begin with, betrayal was a very
prevalent theme in All Quiet on the Western Front. Firstly, an example of betrayal was when the

Bertinck stopped the flamethrowers. He sacrificed his own life to save the lives of his fellow squad
mates. Lastly, when Paul carried Kat all the way back to the dressing station was a great example of
friendship. Paul did not care what he had to do to make it back to the dressing station to save Kat. It
was a long and tedious walk for him but they got there eventually. Unfortunately a piece of shrapnel

Aniline Assay Lab Report
The standard curve and derived equation for glucose in the aniline assay were relatively desired. In
order to determine these values, half of our data was not included in the analysis. These data points
were outliers within the graph and produced undesired results. The standard samples that were
included in the data correlated to an R2 of just 0.90849. With this value falling close in proximity to
1.0, it can be determined that a successful standard curve was formed. With this reassurance, it can be
concluded that the determined protein concentrations of experimental milk, lactase treated milk, and
Coke are also accurate. However the calculated concentrations for each sample are undesired when

only a fraction of the desired concentration values, there is significant error that occurred in the aniline
assay. Perhaps the lactose present in the milk samples was not efficiently hydrolyzed to its glucose and
galactose monomers, leaving little glucose to analyze through absorbance analysis. Other errors
include the preparation of inaccurate dilutions, which could explain the lack of linearity in our

  • 2. English Language Learners For My Assessment Profile The intended English language learners for my assessment would be primary aged students who are at the beginning level, according to WIDA. Primary aged students are students in kindergarten through grade 2, and WIDA describes students as beginning if they (a) understand and speak conversational and academic English with hesitancy and difficulty, (b) understand parts of lessons and simple directions, and (c) are at a pre emergent or emergent level of reading and writing in English, significantly below grade level. (http://ell.dpi.wi.gov/sites/default/files/imce/ell/pdf/elp levels.pdf). Although my students would be young, they could be classified as significantly below grade level if they cannot identify letters and perform poorly on the kindergarten screening and running records. Most ELL students at this age are not literate in their native language, which may make learning English literacy more difficult. Rationale The test I designed I could currently use with some of the students in my classes. I teach kindergarten and first grade English Language Arts and Social Studies and we have a moderate number of immigrant students whose parents do not speak English. Although we do not have an ESL program, our bilingual program draws many native Spanish speaking students to our school because their families want them to maintain their Spanish. We also have immigrant students from other countries, such as Middle Eastern and African countries. This exam covers some of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Analysis Of Fast Times At Ridgemont High In Fast Times at Ridgemont High, characters engage in many expressive relationships that weaken the status hierarchy often found in the high school setting. The mall is the common gathering place for characters outside of school, and status relations are easily visible here (Heckerling, 1982). Since the mall is such an integral part of the film, one witnesses the shift of status relations over time. According to a 2000 study, For these young people the mall was a social magnet that drew them away from the hassles encountered at home and school towards a haven of warmth and safety. He describes the mall as a kind of neutral ground (Matthews, 2000). Mark Rat Ratner works in the mall as assistant to the assistant manager at the movie theater, which is clearly not the most prestigious job on that side of the mall. Stacy Hamilton, on the other hand, works at Perry s Pizza Parlor, a seemingly higher ranked job. With a bit of help from Damone, however, Mark approaches Stacy at the mall to ask her on a date. This begins the friendship and future romance between them, establishing an expressive relationship that connects the slightly awkward Mark to the popular Stacy. The strict status hierarchy associated with high schools is diminished when popular individuals like Stacy do not mind interacting with and creating strong relationships with those viewed as less popular, such as Mark. Additionally, Stacy s brother Brad contributes to the deconstruction of status relations. A ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Quetiapine And Olanzapine Case Study Careful considerations based on the patient s medical history, required sedation level, individual risk factors and tolerability on the side effect profiles such as weight gain, sleepiness, dry mouth, extrapyramidal symptoms(EPS), hormonal changes and cardiovascular complications are essential. Aripiprazole, quetiapine and olanzapine is preferred if EPS is of concern while aripiprazole has lower risk in cardiovascular complications and metabolic syndrome. Among the newer antipsychotics, amisulpride and aripiprazole should be considered for patients with high risk of diabetes and hypertension. • 7. The Splatterhouse Video Before watching the clips, I was feeling content. I was not frustrated with anything or anyone, I was calm and I just watched a few funny videos, which brought my mood up even more. During the first video, immediately, my thoughts were about the quality of the animation and the story line. As for the violence, I didn t like looking at it. I tried to turn away a few times. I think that there was an excessive amount of gore that could have been easily cut out, but it wasn t, because the viewers or the gamers like it. The second video was a lot worse in my opinion. The Splatterhouse video had some sort of story line beside the gore, but this video only showed a first point view of a person killing people in many different ways. Because of the quality of the video, I didn t actually see anything too graphic, but just the idea of people enjoying this game made me a little scared for our society. During the third video, I thought about how believable the scenes were. The lighting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Gore and violence doesn t interest me and I actually turn away from the screen any time there s a graphic scene in a movie, which explains why these clips didn t have any effect on me. The only clip that slightly interested me was Saw. I thought that the story line was interesting, but I still wouldn t watch the actual movie, because of the violent scenes that I would have to watch. Though I had almost no interest in these videos and found most of the scenes repulsive, I caught myself on the thought that by the time I was watching the fourth video, I got used to the violence portrayed in these videos. If the first video made me want to turn away from the screen, the last video had no effect on me at all. I believe that this explains the mere exposure theory. The only thing I did was sit and watch a few clips, but the effect was that I became immune to the violence for at least some ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The ancient Greek physician Hippocrates believed that four basic body fluids (blood, black bile, yellow bile, and phlegm) influenced human behavior, emotions, and personality. Use your understanding of the body s rapid and slow chemical communication systems to support or refute the general logic of Hippocrates theory. The ancient Green physician Hippocartes believed blood, black bile, yellow bile, and phlegm, played a major role in human behavior, emotions, and personality. I don t think blood, black bile, yellow bile, and phlegm, have to do with anything controlling your human behavior, emotions, and personality. I believe your mood and what you are exactly going through that day make up why your human behavior, emotions, and personality are the way they are. Another reason why I don t fully believe Hippocartes beliefs are because he had no actual proof of his reasoning. 4. Struggle and Disillusionment in Hamlet Essays Shakespeare s employment of dramatic struggle and disillusionment through his character Hamlet, contributes to the continued engagement of modern audiences. The employment of the soliloquy demonstrates Shakespeare s approach to the dramatic treatment of these emotions. The soliloquy brings a compensating intimacy, and becomes the means by which Shakespeare brings the audience not only to a knowledge of secret thoughts of characters, but into the closest emotional touch with them too. Through this, the audiences therefore gain a closer relationship with Hamlet, and are absorbed by him because they are able to resonate with his circumstances, as he is faced with enduring truths of the human condition. • 12. Strategic Management for Travel and Tourism Introduction After examining different theories of organizational strategy we were able to apply each case to our company and work. We also learned that there are two dominant methodologies, categorized as planned/analytical and emergent approaches. These strategies provide much knowledge and advice as to how to improve our organization. However, it is important to remember that these theories are not perfect. They do not encompass every organizational situation and there are a lot of circumstantial assumptions made as well. In the following discussion we will analyze the advantages and disadvantages between these strategic theories. In addition I will reflect on how these approaches may be used in my own real world situation. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Real world application As Hines (2004) points out, real world strategies are neither purely planned nor purely emergent. Realized strategies are a combination of both deliberate and emergent strategies (pg.197). I see benefits in both approaches, with a mix being the most advantageous and appropriate in my industry/work. Due to the nature of our products and market (games and technology) things are constantly in flux. Having a degree of planning is necessary to provide focus and direction for the strategy of my organization. This can also assist in the evaluation and analysis of the decision performance. My organization commonly uses this deliberate strategy in many situations. Most recently when we chose to diversify our product line by investing in and releasing games for the mobile platform. Most dominant however, is the emergent strategy, which allows us sufficient flexibity to learn and adapt to changes in our environment. Supported by other approaches, I believe my organization can continue being successful. These other supports include what Stonehouse (2002) calls a competitive positioning and resources/competence based strategy. The competitive positioning approach emphasizes the importance of not only the environment but the need of analyzing your business in the context of its industry. • 13. Persuasive Essay On Xeriscaping Water conservation is on a lot of people s minds these days. Droughts and a growing population put stress on existing water supplies. That leads to the water restrictions that have become all too familiar to Californians. What is the issue, though? Isn t 70% of the world is covered in water? Yes, but only 0.007% of all that water is considered potable or safe to drink. The water from your faucet is potable water. Unfortunately, so is most of the water used in irrigation to keep a lawn green. In a desert climate, keeping lawns green means using a huge amount of potable water. To reduce their water consumption, many homeowners are looking for a landscaping alternative to big lawns. Xeriscaping is that alternative. What is Xeriscaping? Xeriscaping is a landscaping approach that aims to maximize water conservation while still giving you an appealing yard. This is done with a careful combination of plant selection, plant placement, mulching and cutting back on grass lawn areas. The ideal situation is to create a yard that doesn t ever need you to water it. At a practical level, that s not always possible. Choices about new plants, types of mulch, and whether to retain any existing grass will all determine to your final water needs. The odds are good that you ll need some level of irrigation, but at a drastically reduced level. • 14. A Verb Of The Verb Introduction : A denominal verb is a grammatical form that refers to an element which originates as a noun but is used in someway in sentence as a verb. A denominal verb is much distinct than other typical verbs that are originally born functioning as verbs, i.e, they historically used to be nouns before they underwent some operations that contributed in the transformation of their lexical category. The following example illustrates this notion : 1) a. He spent the summer in liverpool b. He summered in liverpool. Sentence (1a) involoves two essential parts of our analysis. It is comopsed of a verb (to spend ) and the noun (summer ) , while sentence (2b) includes one essential element which is the verb ( to summer ) . thus , the reader can notice that the meaning remains the same even though the number of elements that form sentence (2b) is reduced . The change in the form of the noun ( summer) into a verb (to summer) can be seen as a result of a grammatical function changing process that will be much discussed in chapter 3.Transforation rules took to affect the argument noun (summer) and merge with another head to move from the object position to the predicate position (Baker 1988) . This chapter will shed lights on how government binding theory studied this phenomenon. The chapter is organized as follows . Section 1 is an overview of denominal verbs in English. Section 2 brings to light a semantic classification of denominal verbs ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Ban On Immigration Research Paper A Modest Proposal to Trump Concerning the Ban on Immigration The most recent news coming from Washington is the immigration bill that Donald Trump has just signed into effect. This places a ban on immigration for anyone that is a citizen or naturalized in Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen. The problem is that Trump is banning a whole people based upon their country of origin when truly only a very small majority of the people from there are coming for malicious reasons. Although Trump s administration has tried to understate the importance of this act by addressing it as a, temporary pause , citizens of these seven countries have had their lives in America come to a screeching halt (Kennedy, Merit. The Native American Reservations Of The Native Americans The Native American Reservations Imagine being told that if you migrate to a certain location you ll be helped with nutrition and your finance will be covered. Sounds good right? Well this is what the American government promised the Native Americans. A promise that wasn t granted. Many reservations have actually created a sense of confinement and detachment. The reservations have limited resources which separates them from the American Culture and society. This is shown through the laws we ve passed to aid them, and the battle for other native Americans to stand up for their rights. Also their constant struggle for justice. Native Americans have been widely ignored. Their past and current struggles they face. Most Americans know all about know the happy Native Americans that have been celebrated on thanksgiving, but don t seem to know the ones who fought for their rights . Many Native Americans didn t have a voice, and some still don t. During World War I, approximately 9,000 Native Americans fought and died while protecting their own country in return they didn t have their rights granted to them. These rights included their Citizenship. Sounds kind of crazy how you live on your own land but need a citizenship. • 17. Comparison Of Grendel And Frankenstein If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound? Similarly, if a being is never provoked by man, will it become a monster? The latter is a question that is put into focus throughout Gardner s Grendel and Shelley s Frankenstein. The reader learns of Grendel, and of Frankenstein s creation, and must determine if they are truly monsters or merely a product of the world they live in. It is very easy to take one glance at the seemingly heinous crimes committed by Grendel and Frankenstein s creation, and based off of this, deem them to be monsters. However, it is the actions and words of man that transform both Grendel, and Frankenstein s creation into monsters. Both Grendel, and Frankenstein s creations go through personal transformations throughout their lives. They both begin life as innocent creatures with no intention to wreak havoc. Victor Frankenstein created his creature and then immediately ran away from it in fear. In reality, the creature just wanted to be loved and His jaws opened, and he muttered some inarticulate sounds, while a grin wrinkled his cheeks (Shelley 59). The creature was brought to life, and his first instinct was to emit a loving smile, but he was met with a scream of terror. Similarly, Grendel began his life as a righteous and pure creature. When Grendel was approached by drunken men wielding battle axes, he sank to my knees, crying, Friend! Friend! (Gardner 52). This proves that Grendel s initial instinct was to befriend the men, despite their hostile approach. While the men continued to hack at Grendel he merely held up a body for protection (Gardner 52) instead of fighting back. Grendel could have easily overpowered and killed the men if he wanted to but he chose to simply protect himself. Both creatures started off as innocent and pure until man got involved. Grendel could only take so much neglect and abuse before he transformed into the monster that readers recognize him to be. The actions of man were nothing short of monstrous, and they caused Grendel to turn into a monster. The men did not allow Grendel into the Mead Hall and they tried to kill him whenever they saw him. Even when man was not doing something directly to Grendel, their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 19. The Hollow Men Essay At a point in all mortal s existence, there will be a moment when their soul is between two states of being, waiting to be judged. Without the fearlessness and faith to move on to the afterlife, they will spend eternity stuck in purgatory. When T. S. Eliot wrote The Hollow Men, he used symbolism, imagery, and repetition to share his insight to address the lack of courage and faith that plagues every human being. T. S. Eliot s The Hollow Men is a dramatic monologue, free verse poem that consists of five parts that could be considered five separate poems. His use of allegorically abstract text nevertheless achieves a remarkable unity of effect in terms of voice, mood and imagery (Morace 948). Before the poem starts, there are two ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Part one of the poem opens with We are the hollow men, / We are the stuffed men (3 4). It also ends with We are the hollow men, / We are the stuffed men (19 20). This use of this repetition is to reinforce the notion that the hollow men are nothing but emptiness. The image of hollow men who are Leaning together is one of immobility (Urquhart 199). Shape without form, shade without color, / Paralyzed force, gesture without motion (13 14) confirms the image that the hollow men are meaningless, nothing more than a scarecrow lacking embodiment or substance (Bloom 61). In part two of the poem, Eliot uses eyes as an important and repeated image of spiritual insight (Bloom 61). Unlike in part one where Eliot writes, Those who have crossed / With direct eyes, to death s other Kingdom (15 16), In part two, the Hollow Men... have vision that is refracted and distorted (Bloom 61). Eyes I dare not meet in dreams In death s dream kingdom These do not appear: There, the eyes are Sunlight on a broken column (21 25) The image suggests a ruin in a classical landscape painting, a symbol of a broken down system of belief (Bloom 61). The hollow men do not have the faith to be judged and move on to death s other Kingdom. Gold is represented and displayed in Beowulf on the skin of Grendel, Grendel s mother, and the dragon. It is also incorporated in the treasures. The dragon guards it his entire life, and it is the mission of many, including Beowulf to slay the dragon to get the treasures he is protecting. The moments before Beowulf dies, he asks Wiglaf to get him some of the dragon s gold so that his last sight could be what he was fighting for. Treasures were also placed on Beowulf s funeral pyre. Because Beowulf killed Grendel by ripping off his arm, Beowulf hung the arm to show and display in Heorot Hall; the sword was his weapon that he took to try to defeat Grendel s mother. Changes in cultures can sometimes help people to abandon old habits which are unfair, unhealthy etc. In my opinion one of the major improvement is the shifted concept of gender equality. I believe everyone is born equal, so I strongly support the idea that women deserve the right to choose what they want and to abandon those conventional thinking. As is mentioned in the passage I believe that women, like men, should have the vote, should be entitled to work outside their homes, should be protected from the physical abuse of men, including their fathers, brothers and husbands. Thanks to the improvements in culture, we can finally make some progresses on this issue. And as more and more people have recognized the importance of women right problem, I believe the absolute equality between men and women will sooner or later achieved. • 25. Asian Carp And The New Carp Over the course of the mid to late 20th century, five species of non native carp fish, collectively referred to as Asian carp , have been introduced to the United States either for aesthetic purposes, to supplement game fishing, or to help manage local pest species. Some of these carp species have escaped into America s waterways and proved to be prolific breeders and voracious feeders, out hunting and out breeding native species. As with any environmental issue, there exist many parties who have differing points of contention over this problem and many different solutions have been proposed to correct it. To resolve this issue will take a comprehensive analysis of the problem and an examination of the participants involved, their perspectives on Asian carp, and how the proposed solutions to this issue will affect them. Beginning in the 1830 s, five successive waves of foreign carp species; grass, common, silver, bighead, and black carp, were introduced to the United States to help improve the quality of agricultural ponds, but some of them subsequently escaped into the Midwestern river systems (Koel, 2000, Pg. 1). Of these species, the two most infamous are silver and bighead carp. Both species are filter feeders, and following their entry into the river systems in the eighties, they have been competing with native filter feeders for food (Sampson, 2008, Pg. 483). • 29. Slaughter From War Strikes Antietam Analysis Slaughter from War Strikes Antietam! On September 17th, The Battle of Antietam took place and is the bloodiest single day in American History. Many men sacrificed their lives in this battle to protect what we hold dear in unity as a nation. In this battle 23,000 casualties, dead, injured, and missing, were suffered in just 12 hours of warfare(Staff 1). The four men that lie dead in this photograph are all in an open field and all appear to be in Union uniforms. These men were presumingly lined shoulder to shoulder, as is custom in war, while advancing on the confederate soldiers lines. The fence behind these soldiers is missing many of its planks suggesting that many bullets were fired at these soldiers as the advanced towards the confederate lines. This fence is symbolic because with the fence post missing it truly shows the amount of fire that these men were under as they marched their way across the battlefield(Battle of Antietam 1). This battle came after a brutal campaign by the South who had just won The 2nd Battle of Bull Run as well as The Seven Days Battle. Lee s unprecedented plan to start invading the North was seen as unorthodox because all the South needed to do was survive until the citizen s of the North got upset with the war and lost the will to fight. Lee s plan to invade the North was to invade the Maryland which remained loyal to the union and get a crushing blow in union territory. • 33. The Underground Man By Fyodor Dostoyevsky In Notes from the Underground by Fyodor Dostoyevsky, the underground man is a man who is living out [his] life in a [his] corner (2) and is paralyzed by consciousness. The underground man proposes the example of revenge as a way to examine the differences between himself and the man of action; the man of action being a man who can act as opposed to the paralysis of the underground man. The man of action can act, but his position is inconsistent. The underground man thinks he will be miserable regardless of acting or not acting; his belief in determinism causes this and he reasons incorrectly that determinism is true. The man of action and the underground man are determinists who believe all they do is predetermined. They do not believe that they have the ability to commit an action free of any predetermination or influence. All acts that happen are not by the choice of men; instead, the laws of nature are the source of the action. The underground man states the laws of nature, the deductions of natural science, mathematics (8) form a stone wall which cannot be broken. The laws of nature do not require the consent of himself, the underground man thinks, it is a case of twice two makes four! (8). • 36. Aniline Assay Lab Report The standard curve and derived equation for glucose in the aniline assay were relatively desired. In order to determine these values, half of our data was not included in the analysis. These data points were outliers within the graph and produced undesired results. The standard samples that were included in the data correlated to an R2 of just 0.90849. With this value falling close in proximity to 1.0, it can be determined that a successful standard curve was formed. With this reassurance, it can be concluded that the determined protein concentrations of experimental milk, lactase treated milk, and Coke are also accurate. However the calculated concentrations for each sample are undesired when compared to the literature values of their respective product labels. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both literature values for the total carbohydrate concentrations in the milk samples were 45.85 mg/mL. This does not compare satisfactorily with our experimental total carbohydrate concentration for milk at 0.3682 mg/mL, and for lactase treated milk at 0.0809 mg/mL. With these numbers equating only a fraction of the desired concentration values, there is significant error that occurred in the aniline assay. Perhaps the lactose present in the milk samples was not efficiently hydrolyzed to its glucose and galactose monomers, leaving little glucose to analyze through absorbance analysis. Other errors include the preparation of inaccurate dilutions, which could explain the lack of linearity in our standard samples when forming a line of best fit ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Content Reading Inferences This week s reading covers many areas of content reading instruction such as the inferencing, word recognition, explicit instruction in comprehension, strategies to increase comprehension and retention, strategies to partner reading and content routine, and how to love and nurture our students with God s word. All these areas play a vital role in growing independent readers. Kaylene Beer pointed out several significant areas of reading comprehension that help students increase their fluency. Inferences is a skill that helps students with their understanding of written text. Content area teachers must model and give large amounts of practice for developing this skill. Bear also discussed in chapter eleven word recognition which has a direct connection with fluency and reading comprehension. As she pointed out students need a repertoire of skills beyond sounding it out to help struggling readers with recognizing unfamiliar words (Beer,2003). We need to teach students strategies that can be used to comprehend the text not just give the meaning of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Developing study skills is one way the content area teacher can help with retention of information. Specific strategies discussed included knowing the purpose of the reading, rereading the text, check to make sure you understand the vocabulary associated with that text, connect the big idea of the text to your life, and identify any organization patterns present (Roe, 2014). He went on to discuss specific strategies such as PSRT, SQ3R, RIWAC, AND SQRQCQ (Math and Science). He provided key areas of preparation such as: following and rereading directions and using visual aids such as graphic organizers and maps to help students retain information. Students must also develop a skill for determining what is important and what is not important. Having effective study skills is necessary for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
