Unreliable Narrator In The Tell Tale Heart
John Green once said, It s quite rare to find someone who sees the same world you see, a fitting quote to define the works of
American author, Edgar Allen Poe, known for his short stories written in the 1800 s. Famous works include The Black Cat , The
Tell Tale Heart , and Berenice before his untimely death in 1849. Often ridiculed for his absurd stories, Poe was fueled by his
many losses in his childhood, including his mother and wife, and alcoholism. Many of his stories are that of the horror genre and
often uses an unreliable character. Just as some of his most famous characters, Poe was seen as a mentally unstable man who was
burdened by the hardships of his life. Through unreliable narratives, Poe emphasizes fear in the thin line ... Show more content on

Berenice follows Egaeus who is a man about to marry his cousin, Berenice. Egaeus often finds himself lost in thought and
succumbed to a trance like state where he looks over many qualities of Berenice. As she is deteriorating from a disease which is
unknown to the reader, we see her teeth as the only part of her to remain intact. Egaeus, in a fit of unconsciousness, pulls her teeth
from her mouth and finds them in a box next to him when he comes to reality again. Although there is no time shown where he
committed the horrendous act, the narrator awakes from his haze by the sounds of a woman s shriek. The teeth were hers, and the
narrator was petrified by his actions he had no memory of doing. Poe uses the narrators gaps in memory to emphasize the lack of
control he has, and in doing so, proves further that he is an unreliable narrator. Teeth has the symbolic meaning of health and
beauty; the narrator saw the love of his life slowly begin to die and decided to keep what he most admired as a symbol of his love,
something that would never die. Evil is a consequence of good and the loved shared between Egaeus and Berenice was the literary
example of love which was doomed from the

Essay on Gender Discrimination at Walmart
Walmart, the world s largest retailer and private employer, has established a highly profitable business centered on a low cost
strategy that utilizes logistical efficiencies to create a competitive advantage. Yet, to maintain this low cost strategy, Walmart has
engaged in ethically questionable practices, including gender discrimination in promotion and pay. While the Supreme Court
recently ruled against class certification of 1.5 million women in the Dukes v. Walmart case due to a lack of proof that Walmart
operated under a general policy of discrimination , overwhelming evidence demonstrates that gender discrimination is a persistent
problem rooted in the culture of Walmart, despite gender neutral policies (Biskupic, 2011).

The low female representation in management paradox is particularly interesting, given that Walmart trumpets its practice of
promoting from within , boasting that 76% of store managers come from the ranks of hourly associates (Lichenstein, 2007). Yet,
statistician Richard Drogin found that women receive significantly fewer promotions into Support Manager, Management Trainee,
Co Manager and Store Manager positions than would be expected based on their representation in feeder pools (Drogin, 2013). In
particular, women received 2,952 fewer promotions than would be expected into the Management Trainee position, a pre requisite
for assuming salaried, management level jobs, despite having longer tenures and higher performance review ratings than male
counterparts (See Appendix, Figure 7).
The subjective nature for enrollment in the management trainee program serves as a persistent, structural impediment. With
minimal oversight, store managers utilize a tap on the shoulder system and exercise extreme latitude in candidate selection for
management trainee positions (Declaration Summaries, 2011). As a result, men averaged 2.9 years from date of hire until first
being promoted to Assistant Manager and 8.6 years from hire until first being promoted to Store Manager, as compared to the 4.4
years and 10.1 years for women to be promoted to the same positions (Drogin, 2013). This subjectivity extends beyond
promotions to

Britvic PLC financial analysis
1. Aim
The aim of the following report is to assess the financial activity of Britvic PLC over a sixty months period, from January 2005
until December 2009, in order to make recommendations for a future investment in the company. 2. Company overview

Britvic PLC was compelled in 2007 to increase with approximately 10 days the period in which credit customers pay their
liabilities, so that the impact of economic recession over the organisation s profit was reduced by maintaining the drop in the level
of sales at an acceptable level. One year later, in 2008, an 8 days decrease in his ratio was recorded, followed by a 2 days increase
in 2009. As reported by their financial statements, the debtors days ratio has been stable for the past two years, a sign of recovery
after the economic recession, but not as low as in the economic boom, characteristic for the 2005 2006 period.
The third ratio mirroring the company s efficiency is the creditors days ratio, which measures, according to Atrill, the number of
days in which the business pays its debts to suppliers. Britvic PLC s financial statements recorded in 2009 a 20 days increase in
the above mentioned ratio compared to the 2005 2008 average that had a value of 149 days. Therefore, Britvic PLC paid in 2009
its debts 169 days after the enclosure of the transactions. Taking into consideration the fact that Britvic PLC is operating in the soft
drinks industry, which has a medium pace of generating cash, it may be stated that this ratio s value is high enough to reflect that
Britvic PLC is risking the creditors goodwill. On the other hand, the company paid its short term liabilities in approximately four
months after receiving the supplies

Keystone Cruiser
In American, summer may be the season for beer, but beer maker Keystone Light has found itself in hot market competing against
some major brands. With many of the premium brands upselling their light beers, Keystone has been forced into a position where
it must be bold if it wishes to survive. By focusing on who the Cruiser is, and why they would enjoy Canhole, they can make a
product that is far more valuable than the premium beers that they are up against.
The essence of the Cruiser is that they are able to find enjoyment from the small things in life. The cruiser does not need much and
Canhole embodies that. While a premium beer drinker may need more expensive and more elaborate means of entertainment, the
cruiser can find enjoyment by utilizing a cardboard box and some empty beer cans. The Cruiser is likely to be a person that
believes in simplicity, is friends and family oriented, and can laugh at themselves (Schiffman Wisenblit, 2014). Unlike many
others, the Cruiser is not working just to get ahead in life, there are also not trying to keep up with the jones because they prefer to
live with less. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

market, and then targeting the segments where Cruisers are found. One segmentation model, PRIZM, segments households into 66
consumer groups based on socioeconomic ranking, consumer behavior, and media exposure patterns (Schiffman Wisenblit, 2014).
Each segment is given a socioeconomic rank according to their neighborhood data for income, education, occupation, and home
value (Schiffman Wisenblit, 2014). Out of the 66 consumer groups, Red, White, Blue, Young Rustic, and Family Thrifts seem like
the best place to find the Cruiser. Knowing the lifestyle of the Cruiser will help to convince the Cruiser that Keystone Light and

Available evidence theorized the idea that personal pets can be used as another distinctive approach to assist patients, by helping

Summary Of Rita Hayworth And The Shawshank Redemption
In the novel Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption, Andy Dufresne arrives at Shawshank State Prison serving two life
sentences when he is approximately thirty years old. Dufresne was falsely accused of murdering his wife and his wife s secret
lover and thrown into jail for the rest of his life. In the novel and movie, Andy is notably very secretive and tight lipped. The jury
was against Andy s short and cold remarks in trial and explains why he was put into jail. Dufresne was easily able to keep his
secret tunnel, money, and identity hidden which sparked hope within him during a time of great despair. Andy s secretive nature is
a big component in why the jury found him distasteful leading him into prison and escaping without anyone knowing. Luckily his
best friend, Red, was the man who could get it for you (1). He narrates the movie and admits to being a cold blooded killer making
him a suitable and honest man to tell the story. Another factor in Andy Dufresne s escape was the the warden Samuel Norton. Red
described him as the foulest hypocrite that I ever saw in a high position (224). The characters in the movie Shawshank
Redemption feed off of Andy s optimism and intelligence and propel him to getting exactly what he needs to escape without a
trace.
The judge in Dufresne s trial declared him as a remorseless man. However, evidently shown in the novel and the movie, Dufresne
was the opposite. He is quiet, composed, and patient. The dark prison walls that would

The Core Arguments Of Hershey Company
The core arguments of Hershey Company in this case are very clearly stated. Senator Steve Hershey used their company s Trade
Dress on multiple campaign signs for multiple elections. In 2002, Mr. Hershey was running for commissioner of Queen Anne s
County in Maryland. He used a design for his campaign that looked very similar to a Hershey s chocolate bar wrapper. The
background was brown, the lettering was white, and the font was bolded in all capital letters. In 2010, Steve Hershey used a design
that looked even more similar to a Hershey s chocolate bar wrapper than the one he had used previously. This campaign sign had a
brown background, white bolded font, all capital letters, and included a white border. In 2014, Steve Hershey used a campaign
logo with a two toned brown Maryland flag background, his last name in all capital bolded letters, similar font, and underneath
read, state senate. Despite having the same name, Steve Hershey is not affiliated with The Hershey Company in any way. The
Hershey Company believed that Steve Hershey s use of their Trade Dress could cause confusion amongst the general public. When
the Hershey Company contacted Steve Hershey for the first time in 2002, they wrote him a letter asking him to stop using the
Hershey s Trade Dress. In 2010, The Hershey Company contacted Mr. Hershey again and urged him to stop using their Trade
Dress, but they allowed him to use those campaign signs for the primary election only. The Hershey Company and Mr.

The Tower Of The Ruins Of Jericho
Stairs are one of the oldest structures in architectural history. They have always been an important part of a building or structure
because without them you wouldn t be able to get from the bottom to the top or vice versa. There is no actual answer of when the
very first set of stairs was created. But there has been several sources say that the oldest surviving stairs are found in the ruins of
Jericho. There are claims that these stairs are over 7,000 years old. This could mean that stairs were at the very birth of civilization
itself. One of the first types of stairs used in history were not made on purpose but were just worn down when they were used as
rocks to climb on or foot holes to get around easier. There was a time when chopped wood trunks constructed together to make
levels, but these were not used in buildings, they were used to overcome the difficulties of the harsh terrain of the mountains and
valleys. These were used as a survival tool the less time you had moving around in the harsh woods when you could use the tree
trunks to get to a higher and safer place. At the start stairs ad started off as a survival tool, then moved onto having purpose for
people to get from on area to another used a necessity in a building or structure, to being the core design feature of a building.
They were made only for a purpose not for a design feature of a structure. The changes in stairs have varied over the years as to
who designed them and the different trends of

Benefits And Benefits Of The Technology
Next step after the identification of benefit, advantages and benefits of the technology, opportunities can be spotted using the 5 ws
plus H technique. This technique use questions Who?, What?, Why?, Where?, When?, Where?, What? and How? to identify what
we know, what might we know and what might we have to considered for our business Idea (Bragg and Brag, 2005).
1.2.2 5 Ws plus H technique
Who:
Who might use this technology?
Enterprise
Enterprise will be likely to use this technology. In 2017 In memory database might be used by 30 percent of enterprises (Dutta and
Bilbao Osorio 2012, vom Brocke et al. 2013, p. 152).
Small and Medium Enterprise that cannot afford to buy expensive In memory solution (Schaffer et al., 2011).
Data driven business
Number of Information produced has overtaken Moore s law in early of the century (Philip Chen and Zhang, 2014). CPU
performances growth is imbalance with I/O growth and become problem in existing computer architecture (Hey et al. 2009, cited
in Philip Chen and Zhang, 2014, p.19). In Memory analytics can solve this problem by extremely reducing I/O latency (vom
Brocke et al., 2013).
Who might purchase this technology?
Current potential customer: Currently In memory technology is more suitable for small or medium enterprise (Haji, 2011). This is
due to price of memory.
Future potential customer: Enterprise with data more than small and medium enterprise.
Price of Memory will decrease significantly and buy a large

Lying Is A Common Social Phenomenon. In Any Social Context,
Lying is a common social phenomenon. In any social context, it presents itself as a factor to hijack any interaction. From a young
age, introductions to the ethics of lying are conducted. Arguments as ancient as ancient as Greek philosophers often arise on
whether lying in general is right or wrong more specifically lying to children. A little lie here, a small one there, drizzle a bit of
Santa Claus into the mix, and one ends up with the bad recipe for incredulity and mistrust. It s that mistrust and damage to
credulity that is a snowball that continuously rolls down the hill, getting bigger and doing more damage. There are generally two
types of lies that are presented to children, ones that destroy morals and ones that are perceived ... Show more content on

The parents themselves don t support their own child lying, but what does the child think about the parent lying. As the child gets
older, his or her moral evaluation of both lies and truth becomes submersed in doubt. One does not know said child s evaluation
without understanding their developments. White lies, ones that prove to be harmless and trivial such as the Santa Lie, are
messages that confuse children altogether. Parents hope to teach morals such as lying is always bad, but at the same time cross
their fingers and act deceitfully in order to make life easier. The child just ends up confused. Not all lies have negative
consequences for the other person, and not all truths have positive consequences for someone else (Carson 1988). The delicate
balance between a child s moral understanding is impossible to determine and predict, but it does not stop people from trying to
comprehend it. Lies tend to snowball and evolve, making it easier to lie in the future. Before, the science of lying was a pseudo
science full of uncertainty, but recently studies came to light which supporting the theory that one lie makes future lies easier. This
digression of the moral code and increase of corruption are seen as a numbing agent to the brain. In a study by Neil Garrett, 80
people were shown a jar full of pennies and given different guidelines on the lies that were to say. Each guideline will determine if
the lie resulted in the individual receiving

Competitiveness in the Industry
1. The smartphone business has evolved rapidly over the past few years, and has undergone some shifts in the type of market
model. The three basic model types are monopoly, oligopoly and monopolistic competition. Another type, perfect competition,
does not exist in practice but only in theory as a means of understanding the extreme. Perhaps in a market where ten vendors are
all selling watermelons to an audience that knows its melons, you could argue that there is perfect competition, but such markets
are few and far between in the West.
In the smartphone industry, the competition is characterized by the operating system that the devices use. Thus, when n the
industry was first evolving out of the personal digital assistant industry, there were only two main players, the Palm and the
Blackberry. Apple entered the market and brought with it a whole new set of consumers to a product that was initially seen as a
tool for business. Palm s popularity declined, but there were other new entrants ranging from Windows to other proprietary
systems and of course to Android. Now, the smartphone industry had evolved into a state of monopolistic competition with half a
dozen platforms all competing for the hearts and minds of consumers. However, the industry is once again shifting back to
duopoly status, with RIM being marginalized and Apple and Google being the only two players that matter.
2. In the short run, the trend towards duopoly will continue. The two leading products have

Importance Of Suspension Of Disbelief In Theatre
Suspension of disbelief is an essential feature of theatre. Is it essential in other areas of knowledge? The title states that suspension
of disbelief is an essential feature of theatre, a discipline within the area of knowledge of the arts and it includes suspending our
own awareness of this unreality, in order to be immersed in and enjoy the story we are reading, watching or listening to. Therefore,
it could be argued that suspension of disbelief is essential in the Arts and other areas of knowledge, because in order to be
immersed and have a deeper understanding you need to suspend your own thoughts of the unreality of what you are interpreting or
visualising. Whilst theatre is one of the disciplines in the Arts, which like other subjective areas of knowledge such as Religion
provide personal and subjective knowledge through the suspension of disbelief, it could be argued that suspension of disbelief is
also essential in other more objective subjects, such as Maths and Science. Whilst the Arts and Religion, heavily rely on
interpretation of symbolic and figurative meanings, which cannot be evidenced through a direct correspondence with reality,
Science and Maths also rely on abstract concepts that create a visual representation of reality through symbols and equations,
rather than a reality that can be directly observed. It could be argued that suspension of disbelief is, an essential part of knowing in
so much as knowing is a process of joining between shared

The Horrifying Shower Scene in Alfred Hitchcock s Film,...
In this essay I will be doing a close analysis on the famous shower scene in Alfred Hitchcock s Psycho, 1960. I will be looking at
the mise en scène, performance, cinematography, editing, and the manipulation of sound. I will also be looking at themes that are
explored in the film and what messages they convey to the audience. I will be using some theories to help analyze this particular
sequence.
At the beginning of the clip we can see the Marion flushing pieces of paper down the toilet in a close up shot. Diegetic sound of
the flushing is used. The close up reveals that the pieces of paper were a key prop in the film and the audience is left wondering
why the Marion has disposed the paper. This suggests that Hitchcock has used a red herring because the audience may assume she
has done this because the paper may have had evidence that would prove that she is guilty of something. This also creates an
enigma because we suspect that she has a secret hat she is keeping. Enigmas and red herrings are usually found in thriller films to
create mystery and tension.
The Sound before the Marion get s into the shower is very quiet as we only hear non diegetic music that slowly builds up to
frightening slow pace music which creates tension for the audience as it notifies us that something is about to happen. When the
scene moves to Marion being in the shower the music stops and you can just hear the sound of the shower when it comes on. We
can see that the shower curtains are

Reflection Of Music In This Little Light Of Mine
Music is defined as the vocal or instrumental sounds (or both) combined in such a way as to produce beauty of form, harmony, and
expression of music. What truly exemplifies this definition is the performance entitled This Little Light of Mine in which
performers, Donald Craig Manuel and Charles Lloyd Jr, took the stage to deliver a beautiful duo that s consisted of Mr. Manuel s
Baritone voice and Mr. Lloyd s performance on the piano. Mr. Donald Manuel performed twelve compositions in which ten of
them were sacred pieces that expressed how much he loved the Lord and the other four were taken from major events he
performed for such as: Festival of the Lion King at Hong Kong Disneyland, major productions abroad the Disney Dream, and
musical numbers from popular Disney films. Even though each of these pieces were different in context they had numerous
similarities such as: all of them being polyphonic, crescendo and decrescendo were used extensively, dynamics were used
frequently, each piece was set to a walking tempo (Andante), each piece had the qualities of an opera, and he used vibrato in all his
compositions. Even though all his performed pieces were brilliantly performed, the three compositions that stood out to me were:
Ride on King Jesus by Hall Johnson, This Little Light O Mine by John Work, and Be prepared by E. John and T. Rice. The first
piece that was performed, Ride of King Jesus, is a sacred, polyphonic piece that was performed in Low D flat in quadruple meter.

Counseling, Reflection, And Setting Goals
In my first six sessions, it seemed to me the mindset of the counselor in the session is one of the tantamount elements in dictating
the outcome of the client s experience. The first session I experienced brought on nervousness and uncertainty which led to
insecurity. However, the more time I spent listening to my client the more comfortable I became with the role of counselor. Such
feelings of comfort brought with it the ability to be more self aware and client focused in the session. When I was uncomfortable I
asked confusing questions, focused too much on how I looked, and lost the ability to attend to my client. I believe I came into
these sessions strong in my nonverbal skills and encouragers. Nevertheless, I struggled with focused counseling, reflection of
emotions, and setting goals. Intentionality seems to be significant in the growth process; therefore, one of my first actions in
response to these reflections will be to create a plan to address my opportunities for growth. The discomfort I experienced in my
first couple of sessions stemmed from several different issues. Primarily, these feelings came from nerves. I have wanted to be an
LPC for years, and being put in the role of actually counseling made me nervous I would not measure up. Moreover, I feared
making the situation for my client worse because of something I would say or ask. Because of these feelings, I lacked
professionalism at times during my first session. I laughed too often, and in inappropriate

Besides its options for apps to connect to and use the service, iCloud features unlimited free storage for anything you purchase

Nasdaq Financial Variable
The financial variable I chose was, the NASDAQ Composite (IXIC). A stock market index that is comprised of common stocks
and similar securities. The price of NASDAQ from 1971 to present day has grown significantly over time. Opening at just over a
hundred dollars, the NASDAQ s price now hovers around six thousand. Even though this data is collected on a daily basis, I used
a quarterly observation date of prices to show how over multiple decades the price of the NASDAQ rose and fell. Using a daily
observation is not necessary because the quarterly prices, can reflect how each quarter did every day through that one quarter. The
NASDAQ ended up being a good financial variable because how the data is measured on average at the end of the period rather
than over the period. From the start of the NASDAQ it grew in small increments until 1992 when it skyrocketed over two
thousand dollars in just six years. Although its growth did not stay consistent after this. The NASDAQ faced major hits in the
early 2000 s as well as in 2008. Both of these events can be associated with extreme events that happened in the past. In the early

The NASDAQ today is one of the most popular traded stock indexes today. Many people that involve themselves in the financial
system, use the NASDAQ as a model to see how well the market as a whole is doing. Another reason for using the NASDAQ is to
see how much it can be impacted by events such as the financial crisis in 2008 or even 9/11. Knowing that these events have great
influence on the market can help further inform those who involve themselves in the financial system, for down the road in life.
Having a good sense how the market will react to certain events, and a well thought out plan that will not allow losses to amount
to the extremes that they once did. Analyzing the NASDAQ Composite, can be a great reflection for how strong the U.S. economy

Teen Pregnancy Essay
Pregnancies are a wonderful thing. Just imagine being able to create another human being and bringing it into the world. Although
this may be what the majority of mothers think, teen moms may have a different perspective. They might have been forced into
pregnancy and the child may be a reoccurring thought of what happened to her. Chances are the teen will love her baby in the long
run, but in the beginning the teen most likely had different views. Teen pregnancy is a worldwide problem that needs to be
educated properly. The reason why most teen pregnancies occur because teens aren t educated enough. Granted they might

Generally when a teen has a baby, society tends to make her seem like a monster, and that whatever happened to cause this. She
gets shunned and pushed into a dark place where she may not be capable to provide the best care for herself or her baby. The duo
may be ignored by their family and friends, causing them to feel very isolated and alone, which could potentially lead to things
such as insanity, other mental health issues, or the worst case possible, death.
Unfortunately, if the teen gets to the point where she feels like there s no other option, she will most likely turn to drugs and
alcohol, making her situation even worse for herself and those around her. If drugs or alcohol were involved before the teen knew
she became pregnant, medical complications to her or the baby are very likely. The teen has to stop drinking, or doing any type of
drugs immediately if she wants to keep her and her baby safe. If the mother gets hurt in anyway while she is pregnant, she can
potentially hurt and/or kill her baby. Birth deformities are common in mothers who choose to not have a healthy lifestyle. Teen
moms are more likely to have their babies born early, have miscarriages, and underweight babies. This will lead to the need of
more medical attention, which leads to more money. If the teen mother does not have any help from parents, family, or friends, she
will most likely not be able to pay for it and could cause harmful things to occur to her

Violence As Fun By Randall Sullivan Summary
The article Violence As Fun by Randall Sullivan brings up this issue, arguing that parents need to be educated on the dangers of
allowing their children to watch violent TV programs. The author supports this with evidence from a report conducted by The
American Psychological Association, where they concluded that early substance abuse, access to weapons, isolation, and
widespread display of violence in media; the latter being greater, contributes to the violent behaviors in adolescents. He also points
out that since the 1950s, aggravated assaults have increased seven times. The passage further emphasizes that many TV outlets
know the damaging effects that violence in media has on juveniles, yet only a few acknowledge this fact. Sullivan s ... Show more

This is because they view it all the time, so it becomes commonplace to where they are no longer affected by it. This can cause
them to embrace these acts, which can lead to them becoming aggressive. The disadvantages of adolescents being desensitized to
violence are being less likely to help someone in a life threatening situation, lack of empathy and encouraging violent behaviors.
This is supported by Sullivan, stating The media s influence on young people is arguably the most corrosive of all factors cited and
by far the most difficult to contain. (Sullivan 619). This shows that not only is the media a dominating force, it s detrimental and
problematic to contain and refrain from. When children are watching cartoons like Wile E. Coyote and the Road Runner and the
popular Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles; where the characters blow each other up with TNT and fight with swords and daggers, they
are not wincing at the mayhem, instead they re laughing and applauding the antics because they think it s funny and cool. Because
their children seem to be entertained, parents are not intervening for the reason that their kids now have something to occupy their
time. As a result, this may send mixed signals to adolescents causing them to believe that these outrageous acts are

P2p Vs. P2p Technology
In general, peer to peer (P2P) is referring to a network that connected all the computers on the same network and allowing them to
share the resources directly without going through a separate server. While file sharing is means making the file for others
individuals to access and download. Over the past few years, P2P technology has been widely used in file sharing. It can be used
to share a numbers type of files on the Internet, such as text files, music, movies, games, computer software, etc. In P2P
technology, the users do not need to upload the file they intent to share to a centralized server [1]. File sharing process can be more
simple and easy by storing a file on a computer s shared folder, which can be accessed by others on the networks. The shared file
is then split into different parts and then transfers to other online users parts by parts. In other words, this can increase the speed of
sharing files between multiple users as different parts of the file are collected from different users at the same time. The users have
to download P2P file sharing application in order to transfer file on P2P networks. The first developed and famous P2P file sharing
application is Napster. There are numbers of P2P files sharing applications in the market, such as BitTorrent, uTorrent, LimeZilla,
Popcorn Time, etc.
In addition, P2P technology is also useful for direct communication between computers. P2P technology enable two computer on

Turmoil to Hostility in Ireland
1845, was the start of a long period of great trouble for the Irish people. Although through many struggles, the Irish prospered as a
community. Starting in 1845 the Irish lost their main crop due to an unknown fungus then got uprooted to immigrate or died of
disease. The Irish came to America searching for the American dream but only found hostility and unacceptance. This paper will
cover troubles through the potato famine, the journey here and even how they were treated when they got to America.
The potato blight, most known as the Irish potato famine, caused death and despair. The famine was the main reason the Irish left
to immigrate to the United States. Death rates began to rise because of the starvation and diseases such as, cholera, measles and
fever, caused by the lack of Ireland s main food supply and crop. According to Donnelly, Overall excess morality from 1846 51
amounted to 1,082,000 people (171). Typhus and relapsing fever were the worst killers and those led into dysentery and diarrhoea.
Donnelly states, Factors that correlate most strongly with most death was income per capita and literacy rate (178). Most of
Ireland s population was settled into poverty. However, any of the Irish fell into poverty because of the famine and diseases
attracted to the poor. Irish in rural areas moved to the cities in search for the food and shelter they lacked and as they moved
disease followed them and spread throughout the cities. Unsanitary conditions and

Man Who Mistook His Wife For A Hat And Catchy Tunes
The impact that music has on individuals lives varies greatly from person to person and often provides a unique lifestyle to each
individual. An author by the name Oliver Sacks talks about the unique cases that he has dealt with in the past in his writings. The
Man Who Mistook his Wife for a Hat and Brainworms, Sticky Music, and Catchy Tunes from Musicophilia are two articles
written by Oliver Sacks, which show the relationship that music has on the mind and how music can change how a person
perceives reality. The human mind is a complex machine and yet there is something about music that transforms a person s
thought process completely. On the one hand it can be seen to aid Dr. P in his everyday life in the article The Man Who Mistook
his Wife for a Hat with He can t do anything unless he makes it a song (Sacks 17); however, in the article Brainworms, Sticky
Music, and Catchy Tunes from Musicophilia, the music acts as an inhibiter to the patients and would repeat themselves
irresistibility in the mind (Sacks 44). In these two articles, Sacks shows just how different music affects people. Dr. P needs music

Both articles hit on this point, but The Man Who Mistook his Wife for a Hat focuses on one individual who can only see the world
through music and sound. Although Sacks talks about Dr. P s inability to distinct what was actually reality versus what he
perceived to be reality, he also brings up the idea that Dr. P thinks a lot like a computer and displayed the same indifference to the
visual world as a computer (Sacks 15). Music opens a new door to perceive the world, but it is not the only way to perceive it. The
world already has a set physical appearance, but music does not. There is a wide range of opportunity for a single piece of music

Melting Points Lab Report Essay
Melting Points
Elizabeth McGrail
Organic Chemistry I
25 January 2013
ABSTRACT
The objectives of this lab are, as follows; to understand what occurs at the molecular level when a substance melts; to understand
the primary purpose of melting point data; to demonstrate the technique for obtaining the melting point of an organic substance;
and to explain the effect of impurities on the melting point of a substance. Through the experimentation of three substances,
tetracosane, 1 tetradecanol and a mixture of the two, observations can be made in reference to melting point concerning polarity,
molecular weight and purity of the substance. When comparing the two substances, it is evident that heavy molecule weight of
tetracosane allowed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once the range is obtained, remove the thermometer and beaker. Pour out the hot water and allow both the thermometer and the
beaker to cool. Once cool, repeat the previous steps with the second compound, tetradecanol. At the conclusion of the second
experiment, repeat the steps for a third and final time using an equal mixture of both compounds. Be sure to record the melting
point range for all three experiments. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION
Melting point range for tetracosane: 49 51 degrees Celsius
Melting point range for 1 tetradecanol: 37 40 degrees Celsius
Melting point range for mixture: 34 37 degrees Celsius
I was instructed to record a melting point range for each compound, rather than a single temperature melting point. The reason for
this instruction is that polymers and unpure substance melt over a range of several degrees. Based on the melting point ranges for
both substances, it is difficult to differentiate the two based on its melting point data alone. The ranges of the substances are close
enough to one another that one could argue for experimental error when presenting the data as a solo identifying property.
Based on these conclusions, I do not believe the tetracosane is a pure substance because I observed the compound melt over a
range of degrees Celsius. If both compounds in the mixture were composed of tetracosane, its melting point would be
theoretically, identical to the melting

How China s Currency Manipulation Affects US Economy
Currency intervention is the action of one or more governments, central banks, or speculators that increases or reduces the value of
a particular currency against another currency this is according to Wikipedia.
From January until October in 2010 imports from China to the United States this year were $299,026.0 million and only $72,276.2
million in exports to China, leaving a U.S. trade deficit of 226,749.8 million this is according to the U.S Census Bureau U.S

We also need to take into consideration that by injecting more money to the economy, it will decrease the exchange rate and as a
result it will depreciate the U.S. dollar.
In conclusion, I think that China should change its policy because it is damaging not only the U.S. economy but the economy
globally. Countries such as the United States are still recovering from the economic recession we are still leaving in. It is obvious
that if China let the Yuan appreciate their exports will decrease and imports will increase making their trade surplus to decrease. If
this happens international countries will be grateful because by this happening means that their export will increase and
employment will increase. Countries should avoid doing currency manipulation or artificially devaluing their currency because it
just hurts the global economy and it promotes other countries to do the same it hurts everyone.

The Bedouins In Arabia
The Bedouins, a pastoral society based people, dominated pre Islamic Arabia, and had a culture centralized around clan life. One
of the defining characteristics of this time in Arabia was the respect and importance of women, due to the frequent absence of
men. With the beginning of Islam in 622 CE, women continued to receive that respect, along with more legal rights, such as the
right to divorce. However patriarchy still played a part throughout both time periods.
In 550 B.C.E, before Islam was developed in the Arabian Peninsula, it was under the Bedouins rule which gave women who lived
there little to no rights regarding marriage and inheritance. Towns like Mecca and Medina are extensions of these nomadic tribes.

Heroic As A Hero
What does the word heroic mean to you? What pops into your mind? For me when I think of the word heroic, I think of my dad.
My dad has always supported me on all my decisions and he is alway reliable. Not only does my dad supports me on everything,
he is also very understanding and humble. He has always been loving and patient, not only with me, but with the small town of
Manton. He also goes out of his way to make others feel good before himself. It was the year of 2010, the sun was shining and the
wind was slight. I was on my way home from school when my aunt Angie s phone started ringing. She was driving so she let my
cousin Haley answer her phone. It was my dad, he was calling with the most life changing news I have ever heard. It was about
my mom, she couldn t be found, no one has heard from her all day. My dad made me come home right away. When I got home he
ran over to me and wrapped his soft arms around me and held me so very closely. That life changing day, has made my dad and I
more closer. Since she has been gone, there hasn t been one day that he hasn t been by my side. Not only is he always there for me
he is also a very reliable person. In our town of Manton, my dad has been a very flexible, helping, and a very patient community
member. Along with that, he has been a great role model for me. My father has been the host of the Bluegrass Festival, Harvest
Festival, and many more Community gatherings. He volunteers his own personal time to help others that are in need. An example
of this is his career. His career of being a pharmacist changed from employee to boss very quickly. He helps others when they are
in need of medicine or have medical concerns during out of business hours. He makes time to deliver from five to ten pm on his
own time. When I watch him do all this community service, volunteer, and put others first, it makes me do the same. That is why
he is a very loving flexible, helping, patient, role model. For not only me, but including with the rest of the citizens of Manton.
When someone makes mistakes usually there is a lot of disappointment. Perhaps you do something you re not supposed to, or you
let your sassiness out, or maybe you fail a test because you didn t study. Those

Cla Research Paper
Mechanism of the Health promoting Effects of the Food Ingredient
Evidence suggests that the biological effectiveness of CLA are due to the separate actions of cis 9, trans 11 and trans 10, cis 12
isomers. It is likely that numerous health effects are enhanced by synergistic actions of these isomers. Findings such as, inhibition
of chemically induced carcinogenesis, enhanced immune system, reduction of atherosclerosis, enhanced growth, fat reduction are
attributed to a mixture of these CLA isomers (Pariza, Park, Cook, 2001).

Insulin resistance can also be caused by increased triglycerides and free fatty acids intake. This is due to the effect Triglycerides
and free fatty acids have on insulin stimulated signal pathways, translocation protein 4 and glucose uptake (Choi, Jung, Park,
Song, 2004). It is found that CLA has a regulatory effect on glucose and lipid metabolism regulators. CLA affects the PPAR y
ligand, a major receptor that influences the expression and transcription of genes that are related to the metabolic effects of
glucose and lipids. Such protein regulators as aP2, insulin dependent glucose transporter 4, FATp, ACS and adiponectin are all
influenced by increased CLA. (Xiao Rong Zhoua, Chang Hao Suna, Jia Ren Liua, b, Dan Zhaoa, 2008). It was also theorized that
CLA may act on other glucose regulators such as phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase, glucose 6 phosphate, glucokinase, sterol
regulation element finding protein, acyl coenzyme A oxidase, fatty acid synthase and uncoupling protein. Testing done on rats with
a mixture of cis 9, trans 11 and trans 10, cis 12 CLA had found that the only effected regulatory agents were regulators involved in
gluconeogenesis such as Phosphoenol carboxykinase and transcriptional factors, sterol regulating element binding protein 1c and
PPAR y (Choi, Jung, Park, Song, 2004). The main regulatory effect on insulin resistance was the effect on ligand PPAR y, a key
regulator in lipid homeostasis. Mixtures of CLA isomers consisting of cis 9, trans 11 and trans 10,cis 12 effect gene expression of
PPARy mRNA in rats. It was found to have affected the levels of aP2, FATP, ACS and adipoenectin mRNA expression in adipose
tissue. CLA increased These regulatory proteins resulting in an uptake of free fatty acids into the adipose tissue and decreasing
uptake into the muscle tissue. This has been found to improve muscle insulin

motives of his actions are what particularly makes Chris a cruel being. Chris ended up recording over 160 confirmed kills during

humane. Chris stated during his BUD/S training that, I wanted to be a SEAL in the worst way (Kyle 20). The quote implies he
wanted to be a SEAL just so he can get involved in the action, and shoot down Iraqis. Chris constantly reminds readers of his
vicious attitude through statements such as, I wanted, more than anything, to experience the thrill of battle

Physician Assisted Suicide And The Rights Of Patients
Physician assisted suicide needs to be recognized by the federal government to show terminally ill patients that their right to
autonomy is not being ignored. The Bill of Rights of Patients was constructed to outline just this. According to the American
Cancer Society, the American Hospital Association drafted a Patients Bill of Rights to inform patients of what they could
reasonably expect while in the hospital. One of the notes stated in the Bill of Rights of Patients is the right to autonomy. The right
to autonomy specifically states that patients have the right and ability to make their own choices and decisions about [the] medical
care and treatment that they receive (US Legal). If this right to autonomy is ignored what rights do terminally ill patients have?
The answer is little to none. Physician assisted suicide and the right to autonomy go hand in hand. The more knowledge that
people have, the greater their ability to make educated and insightful decisions about the medical choices that are accessible to
them and their families. Physician assisted suicide should be like any other treatment someone can ask for, and the right to
autonomy protects this doctor patient agreement.
Physician assisted suicide should be readily available to all terminally ill patients to illustrate to them that their tremendous pain
and suffering does not have to be prolonged.
Everyone should be able to choose when and how they want to die, and they should be able to do so with

Harry Truman s Fair Deal
After a decade of Democracy, the Republican party moved into the White House. Along with this shift in the government, there
were also many economical and social issues that followed along. Once the first election of the decade in 1952, the government
started to factor in the Korean War, inflation, the New Deal, Harry Truman s Fair Deal, and the major problem with John
McCarthy and McCarthyism. In the background of the politics in the nation, economically things were changing. As World War II
was ending and the Korean War was in its early stages, a period of inflation affected the United States. In order to deal with the
rate of inflation old policies resurfaced and new policies were created, and finally groups of people were organized to maintain
stability with the policies. Ultimately in the end the economic played a role in how the nation played out socially. This was the
decade that: the baby boomers peaked, laws and protection plans were created to give veterans education and jobs, and finally
civil rights movements were initiated. During the 1950 s government, financing, and social had rapid and powerful movements
and changes.
When it comes to the politics across the nation during this decade there were two elections, some trials, and new acts and
legislations. After the Democratic party ruled the White House for a decade, it all changed with the death of President Franklin D.
Roosevelt. At the beginning of the decade in office was vice President Harry S Truman,

  • 3. Unreliable Narrator In The Tell Tale Heart John Green once said, It s quite rare to find someone who sees the same world you see, a fitting quote to define the works of American author, Edgar Allen Poe, known for his short stories written in the 1800 s. Famous works include The Black Cat , The Tell Tale Heart , and Berenice before his untimely death in 1849. Often ridiculed for his absurd stories, Poe was fueled by his many losses in his childhood, including his mother and wife, and alcoholism. Many of his stories are that of the horror genre and often uses an unreliable character. Just as some of his most famous characters, Poe was seen as a mentally unstable man who was burdened by the hardships of his life. Through unreliable narratives, Poe emphasizes fear in the thin line ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Berenice follows Egaeus who is a man about to marry his cousin, Berenice. Egaeus often finds himself lost in thought and succumbed to a trance like state where he looks over many qualities of Berenice. As she is deteriorating from a disease which is unknown to the reader, we see her teeth as the only part of her to remain intact. Egaeus, in a fit of unconsciousness, pulls her teeth from her mouth and finds them in a box next to him when he comes to reality again. Although there is no time shown where he committed the horrendous act, the narrator awakes from his haze by the sounds of a woman s shriek. The teeth were hers, and the narrator was petrified by his actions he had no memory of doing. Poe uses the narrators gaps in memory to emphasize the lack of control he has, and in doing so, proves further that he is an unreliable narrator. Teeth has the symbolic meaning of health and beauty; the narrator saw the love of his life slowly begin to die and decided to keep what he most admired as a symbol of his love, something that would never die. Evil is a consequence of good and the loved shared between Egaeus and Berenice was the literary example of love which was doomed from the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Essay on Gender Discrimination at Walmart Walmart, the world s largest retailer and private employer, has established a highly profitable business centered on a low cost strategy that utilizes logistical efficiencies to create a competitive advantage. Yet, to maintain this low cost strategy, Walmart has engaged in ethically questionable practices, including gender discrimination in promotion and pay. While the Supreme Court recently ruled against class certification of 1.5 million women in the Dukes v. Walmart case due to a lack of proof that Walmart operated under a general policy of discrimination , overwhelming evidence demonstrates that gender discrimination is a persistent problem rooted in the culture of Walmart, despite gender neutral policies (Biskupic, 2011). During ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The low female representation in management paradox is particularly interesting, given that Walmart trumpets its practice of promoting from within , boasting that 76% of store managers come from the ranks of hourly associates (Lichenstein, 2007). Yet, statistician Richard Drogin found that women receive significantly fewer promotions into Support Manager, Management Trainee, Co Manager and Store Manager positions than would be expected based on their representation in feeder pools (Drogin, 2013). In particular, women received 2,952 fewer promotions than would be expected into the Management Trainee position, a pre requisite for assuming salaried, management level jobs, despite having longer tenures and higher performance review ratings than male counterparts (See Appendix, Figure 7). The subjective nature for enrollment in the management trainee program serves as a persistent, structural impediment. With minimal oversight, store managers utilize a tap on the shoulder system and exercise extreme latitude in candidate selection for management trainee positions (Declaration Summaries, 2011). As a result, men averaged 2.9 years from date of hire until first being promoted to Assistant Manager and 8.6 years from hire until first being promoted to Store Manager, as compared to the 4.4 years and 10.1 years for women to be promoted to the same positions (Drogin, 2013). This subjectivity extends beyond promotions to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Britvic PLC was compelled in 2007 to increase with approximately 10 days the period in which credit customers pay their liabilities, so that the impact of economic recession over the organisation s profit was reduced by maintaining the drop in the level of sales at an acceptable level. One year later, in 2008, an 8 days decrease in his ratio was recorded, followed by a 2 days increase in 2009. As reported by their financial statements, the debtors days ratio has been stable for the past two years, a sign of recovery after the economic recession, but not as low as in the economic boom, characteristic for the 2005 2006 period. The third ratio mirroring the company s efficiency is the creditors days ratio, which measures, according to Atrill, the number of days in which the business pays its debts to suppliers. Britvic PLC s financial statements recorded in 2009 a 20 days increase in the above mentioned ratio compared to the 2005 2008 average that had a value of 149 days. Therefore, Britvic PLC paid in 2009 its debts 169 days after the enclosure of the transactions. Taking into consideration the fact that Britvic PLC is operating in the soft drinks industry, which has a medium pace of generating cash, it may be stated that this ratio s value is high enough to reflect that Britvic PLC is risking the creditors goodwill. On the other hand, the company paid its short term liabilities in approximately four months after receiving the supplies ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Keystone Cruiser In American, summer may be the season for beer, but beer maker Keystone Light has found itself in hot market competing against some major brands. With many of the premium brands upselling their light beers, Keystone has been forced into a position where it must be bold if it wishes to survive. By focusing on who the Cruiser is, and why they would enjoy Canhole, they can make a product that is far more valuable than the premium beers that they are up against. The essence of the Cruiser is that they are able to find enjoyment from the small things in life. The cruiser does not need much and Canhole embodies that. While a premium beer drinker may need more expensive and more elaborate means of entertainment, the cruiser can find enjoyment by utilizing a cardboard box and some empty beer cans. The Cruiser is likely to be a person that believes in simplicity, is friends and family oriented, and can laugh at themselves (Schiffman Wisenblit, 2014). Unlike many others, the Cruiser is not working just to get ahead in life, there are also not trying to keep up with the jones because they prefer to live with less. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, for a marketing plan to be effective, one must define the Cruiser in marketing terms. • 8. Summary Of Rita Hayworth And The Shawshank Redemption In the novel Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption, Andy Dufresne arrives at Shawshank State Prison serving two life sentences when he is approximately thirty years old. Dufresne was falsely accused of murdering his wife and his wife s secret lover and thrown into jail for the rest of his life. In the novel and movie, Andy is notably very secretive and tight lipped. The jury was against Andy s short and cold remarks in trial and explains why he was put into jail. Dufresne was easily able to keep his secret tunnel, money, and identity hidden which sparked hope within him during a time of great despair. Andy s secretive nature is a big component in why the jury found him distasteful leading him into prison and escaping without anyone knowing. Luckily his best friend, Red, was the man who could get it for you (1). He narrates the movie and admits to being a cold blooded killer making him a suitable and honest man to tell the story. Another factor in Andy Dufresne s escape was the the warden Samuel Norton. Red described him as the foulest hypocrite that I ever saw in a high position (224). The characters in the movie Shawshank Redemption feed off of Andy s optimism and intelligence and propel him to getting exactly what he needs to escape without a trace. The judge in Dufresne s trial declared him as a remorseless man. However, evidently shown in the novel and the movie, Dufresne was the opposite. He is quiet, composed, and patient. Senator Steve Hershey used their company s Trade Dress on multiple campaign signs for multiple elections. In 2002, Mr. Hershey was running for commissioner of Queen Anne s County in Maryland. He used a design for his campaign that looked very similar to a Hershey s chocolate bar wrapper. The background was brown, the lettering was white, and the font was bolded in all capital letters. In 2010, Steve Hershey used a design that looked even more similar to a Hershey s chocolate bar wrapper than the one he had used previously. This campaign sign had a brown background, white bolded font, all capital letters, and included a white border. In 2014, Steve Hershey used a campaign logo with a two toned brown Maryland flag background, his last name in all capital bolded letters, similar font, and underneath read, state senate. Despite having the same name, Steve Hershey is not affiliated with The Hershey Company in any way. The Hershey Company believed that Steve Hershey s use of their Trade Dress could cause confusion amongst the general public. When the Hershey Company contacted Steve Hershey for the first time in 2002, they wrote him a letter asking him to stop using the Hershey s Trade Dress. They have always been an important part of a building or structure because without them you wouldn t be able to get from the bottom to the top or vice versa. There is no actual answer of when the very first set of stairs was created. But there has been several sources say that the oldest surviving stairs are found in the ruins of Jericho. There are claims that these stairs are over 7,000 years old. This could mean that stairs were at the very birth of civilization itself. One of the first types of stairs used in history were not made on purpose but were just worn down when they were used as rocks to climb on or foot holes to get around easier. There was a time when chopped wood trunks constructed together to make levels, but these were not used in buildings, they were used to overcome the difficulties of the harsh terrain of the mountains and valleys. These were used as a survival tool the less time you had moving around in the harsh woods when you could use the tree trunks to get to a higher and safer place. • 13. Lying Is A Common Social Phenomenon. In Any Social Context, Lying is a common social phenomenon. In any social context, it presents itself as a factor to hijack any interaction. From a young age, introductions to the ethics of lying are conducted. Arguments as ancient as ancient as Greek philosophers often arise on whether lying in general is right or wrong more specifically lying to children. A little lie here, a small one there, drizzle a bit of Santa Claus into the mix, and one ends up with the bad recipe for incredulity and mistrust. As the child gets older, his or her moral evaluation of both lies and truth becomes submersed in doubt. One does not know said child s evaluation without understanding their developments. White lies, ones that prove to be harmless and trivial such as the Santa Lie, are messages that confuse children altogether. Parents hope to teach morals such as lying is always bad, but at the same time cross their fingers and act deceitfully in order to make life easier. The child just ends up confused. Not all lies have negative consequences for the other person, and not all truths have positive consequences for someone else (Carson 1988). The delicate balance between a child s moral understanding is impossible to determine and predict, but it does not stop people from trying to comprehend it. • 15. Competitiveness in the Industry 1. The smartphone business has evolved rapidly over the past few years, and has undergone some shifts in the type of market model. The three basic model types are monopoly, oligopoly and monopolistic competition. Another type, perfect competition, does not exist in practice but only in theory as a means of understanding the extreme. Perhaps in a market where ten vendors are all selling watermelons to an audience that knows its melons, you could argue that there is perfect competition, but such markets are few and far between in the West. In the smartphone industry, the competition is characterized by the operating system that the devices use. Thus, when n the industry was first evolving out of the personal digital assistant industry, there were only two main players, the Palm and the Blackberry. Apple entered the market and brought with it a whole new set of consumers to a product that was initially seen as a tool for business. Palm s popularity declined, but there were other new entrants ranging from Windows to other proprietary systems and of course to Android. Now, the smartphone industry had evolved into a state of monopolistic competition with half a dozen platforms all competing for the hearts and minds of consumers. • 16. Importance Of Suspension Of Disbelief In Theatre Suspension of disbelief is an essential feature of theatre. Is it essential in other areas of knowledge? The title states that suspension of disbelief is an essential feature of theatre, a discipline within the area of knowledge of the arts and it includes suspending our own awareness of this unreality, in order to be immersed in and enjoy the story we are reading, watching or listening to. Therefore, it could be argued that suspension of disbelief is essential in the Arts and other areas of knowledge, because in order to be immersed and have a deeper understanding you need to suspend your own thoughts of the unreality of what you are interpreting or visualising. Whilst theatre is one of the disciplines in the Arts, which like other subjective areas of knowledge such as Religion provide personal and subjective knowledge through the suspension of disbelief, it could be argued that suspension of disbelief is also essential in other more objective subjects, such as Maths and Science. Whilst the Arts and Religion, heavily rely on interpretation of symbolic and figurative meanings, which cannot be evidenced through a direct correspondence with reality, Science and Maths also rely on abstract concepts that create a visual representation of reality through symbols and equations, rather than a reality that can be directly observed. • 17. The Horrifying Shower Scene in Alfred Hitchcock s Film,... In this essay I will be doing a close analysis on the famous shower scene in Alfred Hitchcock s Psycho, 1960. I will be looking at the mise en scène, performance, cinematography, editing, and the manipulation of sound. I will also be looking at themes that are explored in the film and what messages they convey to the audience. I will be using some theories to help analyze this particular sequence. At the beginning of the clip we can see the Marion flushing pieces of paper down the toilet in a close up shot. Diegetic sound of the flushing is used. The close up reveals that the pieces of paper were a key prop in the film and the audience is left wondering why the Marion has disposed the paper. This suggests that Hitchcock has used a red herring because the audience may assume she has done this because the paper may have had evidence that would prove that she is guilty of something. This also creates an enigma because we suspect that she has a secret hat she is keeping. Enigmas and red herrings are usually found in thriller films to create mystery and tension. The Sound before the Marion get s into the shower is very quiet as we only hear non diegetic music that slowly builds up to frightening slow pace music which creates tension for the audience as it notifies us that something is about to happen. When the scene moves to Marion being in the shower the music stops and you can just hear the sound of the shower when it comes on. We can see that the shower curtains are ... Reflection Of Music In This Little Light Of Mine Music is defined as the vocal or instrumental sounds (or both) combined in such a way as to produce beauty of form, harmony, and expression of music. What truly exemplifies this definition is the performance entitled This Little Light of Mine in which performers, Donald Craig Manuel and Charles Lloyd Jr, took the stage to deliver a beautiful duo that s consisted of Mr. Manuel s Baritone voice and Mr. Lloyd s performance on the piano. Mr. Donald Manuel performed twelve compositions in which ten of them were sacred pieces that expressed how much he loved the Lord and the other four were taken from major events he performed for such as: Festival of the Lion King at Hong Kong Disneyland, major productions abroad the Disney Dream, and musical numbers from popular Disney films. Even though each of these pieces were different in context they had numerous similarities such as: all of them being polyphonic, crescendo and decrescendo were used extensively, dynamics were used frequently, each piece was set to a walking tempo (Andante), each piece had the qualities of an opera, and he used vibrato in all his compositions. Even though all his performed pieces were brilliantly performed, the three compositions that stood out to me were: Ride on King Jesus by Hall Johnson, This Little Light O Mine by John Work, and Be prepared by E. John and T. Rice. The first piece that was performed, Ride of King Jesus, is a sacred, polyphonic piece that was performed in Low D flat in quadruple meter. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 27. P2p Vs. P2p Technology In general, peer to peer (P2P) is referring to a network that connected all the computers on the same network and allowing them to share the resources directly without going through a separate server. While file sharing is means making the file for others individuals to access and download. Over the past few years, P2P technology has been widely used in file sharing. It can be used to share a numbers type of files on the Internet, such as text files, music, movies, games, computer software, etc. In P2P technology, the users do not need to upload the file they intent to share to a centralized server [1]. File sharing process can be more simple and easy by storing a file on a computer s shared folder, which can be accessed by others on the networks. The shared file is then split into different parts and then transfers to other online users parts by parts. In other words, this can increase the speed of sharing files between multiple users as different parts of the file are collected from different users at the same time. The users have to download P2P file sharing application in order to transfer file on P2P networks. The first developed and famous P2P file sharing application is Napster. • 28. Turmoil to Hostility in Ireland 1845, was the start of a long period of great trouble for the Irish people. Although through many struggles, the Irish prospered as a community. Starting in 1845 the Irish lost their main crop due to an unknown fungus then got uprooted to immigrate or died of disease. The Irish came to America searching for the American dream but only found hostility and unacceptance. This paper will cover troubles through the potato famine, the journey here and even how they were treated when they got to America. The potato blight, most known as the Irish potato famine, caused death and despair. The famine was the main reason the Irish left to immigrate to the United States. Death rates began to rise because of the starvation and diseases such as, cholera, measles and fever, caused by the lack of Ireland s main food supply and crop. According to Donnelly, Overall excess morality from 1846 51 amounted to 1,082,000 people (171). Typhus and relapsing fever were the worst killers and those led into dysentery and diarrhoea. Donnelly states, Factors that correlate most strongly with most death was income per capita and literacy rate (178). Most of Ireland s population was settled into poverty. However, any of the Irish fell into poverty because of the famine and diseases attracted to the poor. Irish in rural areas moved to the cities in search for the food and shelter they lacked and as they moved disease followed them and spread throughout the cities. Unsanitary conditions and ... • 29. Man Who Mistook His Wife For A Hat And Catchy Tunes The impact that music has on individuals lives varies greatly from person to person and often provides a unique lifestyle to each individual. An author by the name Oliver Sacks talks about the unique cases that he has dealt with in the past in his writings. The Man Who Mistook his Wife for a Hat and Brainworms, Sticky Music, and Catchy Tunes from Musicophilia are two articles written by Oliver Sacks, which show the relationship that music has on the mind and how music can change how a person perceives reality. The human mind is a complex machine and yet there is something about music that transforms a person s thought process completely. On the one hand it can be seen to aid Dr. P in his everyday life in the article The Man Who Mistook his Wife for a Hat with He can t do anything unless he makes it a song (Sacks 17); however, in the article Brainworms, Sticky Music, and Catchy Tunes from Musicophilia, the music acts as an inhibiter to the patients and would repeat themselves irresistibility in the mind (Sacks 44). In these two articles, Sacks shows just how different music affects people. Dr. P needs music to get through daily routines, while for other ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both articles hit on this point, but The Man Who Mistook his Wife for a Hat focuses on one individual who can only see the world through music and sound. Although Sacks talks about Dr. P s inability to distinct what was actually reality versus what he perceived to be reality, he also brings up the idea that Dr. P thinks a lot like a computer and displayed the same indifference to the visual world as a computer (Sacks 15). Music opens a new door to perceive the world, but it is not the only way to perceive it. The world already has a set physical appearance, but music does not. Melting Points Lab Report Essay Melting Points Elizabeth McGrail Organic Chemistry I 25 January 2013 ABSTRACT The objectives of this lab are, as follows; to understand what occurs at the molecular level when a substance melts; to understand the primary purpose of melting point data; to demonstrate the technique for obtaining the melting point of an organic substance; and to explain the effect of impurities on the melting point of a substance. Through the experimentation of three substances, tetracosane, 1 tetradecanol and a mixture of the two, observations can be made in reference to melting point concerning polarity, molecular weight and purity of the substance. When comparing the two substances, it is evident that heavy molecule weight of tetracosane allowed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Once the range is obtained, remove the thermometer and beaker. Pour out the hot water and allow both the thermometer and the beaker to cool. Once cool, repeat the previous steps with the second compound, tetradecanol. At the conclusion of the second experiment, repeat the steps for a third and final time using an equal mixture of both compounds. Be sure to record the melting point range for all three experiments. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION Melting point range for tetracosane: 49 51 degrees Celsius Melting point range for 1 tetradecanol: 37 40 degrees Celsius Melting point range for mixture: 34 37 degrees Celsius I was instructed to record a melting point range for each compound, rather than a single temperature melting point. The reason for this instruction is that polymers and unpure substance melt over a range of several degrees. Based on the melting point ranges for both substances, it is difficult to differentiate the two based on its melting point data alone. The ranges of the substances are close enough to one another that one could argue for experimental error when presenting the data as a solo identifying property. Based on these conclusions, I do not believe the tetracosane is a pure substance because I observed the compound melt over a range of degrees Celsius. If both compounds in the mixture were composed of tetracosane, its melting point would be theoretically, identical to the melting ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

How China’s Currency Manipulation Affects Us Economy How China s Currency Manipulation Affects US Economy Howe School of Technology Management Principles of Economics How China s Currency Manipulation Affects US Economy Currency intervention is the action of one or more governments, central banks, or speculators that increases or reduces the value of a particular currency against another currency this is according to Wikipedia. From January until October in 2010 imports from China to the United States this year were $299,026.0 million and only $72,276.2 million in exports to China, leaving a U.S. trade deficit of 226,749.8 million this is according to the U.S Census Bureau U.S Foreign Trade Statistics. Here we can examine that Chinese ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We also need to take into consideration that by injecting more money to the economy, it will decrease the exchange rate and as a result it will depreciate the U.S. dollar. In conclusion, I think that China should change its policy because it is damaging not only the U.S. economy but the economy globally. Countries such as the United States are still recovering from the economic recession we are still leaving in. It is obvious that if China let the Yuan appreciate their exports will decrease and imports will increase making their trade surplus to decrease. If this happens international countries will be grateful because by this happening means that their export will increase and employment will increase. Countries should avoid doing currency manipulation or artificially devaluing their currency because it just hurts the global economy and it promotes other countries to do the same it hurts everyone. • 33. The Bedouins In Arabia The Bedouins, a pastoral society based people, dominated pre Islamic Arabia, and had a culture centralized around clan life. One of the defining characteristics of this time in Arabia was the respect and importance of women, due to the frequent absence of men. With the beginning of Islam in 622 CE, women continued to receive that respect, along with more legal rights, such as the right to divorce. However patriarchy still played a part throughout both time periods. In 550 B.C.E, before Islam was developed in the Arabian Peninsula, it was under the Bedouins rule which gave women who lived there little to no rights regarding marriage and inheritance. • 34. Heroic As A Hero What does the word heroic mean to you? What pops into your mind? For me when I think of the word heroic, I think of my dad. My dad has always supported me on all my decisions and he is alway reliable. Not only does my dad supports me on everything, he is also very understanding and humble. He has always been loving and patient, not only with me, but with the small town of Manton. He also goes out of his way to make others feel good before himself. It was the year of 2010, the sun was shining and the wind was slight. I was on my way home from school when my aunt Angie s phone started ringing. She was driving so she let my cousin Haley answer her phone. It was my dad, he was calling with the most life changing news I have ever heard. It was about my mom, she couldn t be found, no one has heard from her all day. My dad made me come home right away. When I got home he ran over to me and wrapped his soft arms around me and held me so very closely. That life changing day, has made my dad and I more closer. Since she has been gone, there hasn t been one day that he hasn t been by my side. Not only is he always there for me he is also a very reliable person. In our town of Manton, my dad has been a very flexible, helping, and a very patient community member. Along with that, he has been a great role model for me. My father has been the host of the Bluegrass Festival, Harvest Festival, and many more Community gatherings. He volunteers his own personal time to help others that are in need. An example of this is his career. His career of being a pharmacist changed from employee to boss very quickly. He helps others when they are in need of medicine or have medical concerns during out of business hours. He makes time to deliver from five to ten pm on his own time. When I watch him do all this community service, volunteer, and put others first, it makes me do the same. That is why he is a very loving flexible, helping, patient, role model. For not only me, but including with the rest of the citizens of Manton. When someone makes mistakes usually there is a lot of disappointment. Cla Research Paper Mechanism of the Health promoting Effects of the Food Ingredient Evidence suggests that the biological effectiveness of CLA are due to the separate actions of cis 9, trans 11 and trans 10, cis 12 isomers. It is likely that numerous health effects are enhanced by synergistic actions of these isomers. Findings such as, inhibition of chemically induced carcinogenesis, enhanced immune system, reduction of atherosclerosis, enhanced growth, fat reduction are attributed to a mixture of these CLA isomers (Pariza, Park, Cook, 2001). Weight reduction Researchers have theorized about the many mechanisms CLA have an effect on. Insulin resistance can also be caused by increased triglycerides and free fatty acids intake. This is due to the effect Triglycerides and free fatty acids have on insulin stimulated signal pathways, translocation protein 4 and glucose uptake (Choi, Jung, Park, Song, 2004). It is found that CLA has a regulatory effect on glucose and lipid metabolism regulators. CLA affects the PPAR y ligand, a major receptor that influences the expression and transcription of genes that are related to the metabolic effects of glucose and lipids. Such protein regulators as aP2, insulin dependent glucose transporter 4, FATp, ACS and adiponectin are all influenced by increased CLA. (Xiao Rong Zhoua, Chang Hao Suna, Jia Ren Liua, b, Dan Zhaoa, 2008). It was also theorized that CLA may act on other glucose regulators such as phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase, glucose 6 phosphate, glucokinase, sterol regulation element finding protein, acyl coenzyme A oxidase, fatty acid synthase and uncoupling protein. Testing done on rats with a mixture of cis 9, trans 11 and trans 10, cis 12 CLA had found that the only effected regulatory agents were regulators involved in gluconeogenesis such as Phosphoenol carboxykinase and transcriptional factors, sterol regulating element binding protein 1c and PPAR y (Choi, Jung, Park, Song, 2004). The main regulatory effect on insulin resistance was the effect on ligand PPAR y, a key regulator in lipid homeostasis. Mixtures of CLA isomers consisting of cis 9, trans 11 and trans 10,cis 12 effect gene expression of PPARy mRNA in rats. It was found to have affected the levels of aP2, FATP, ACS and adipoenectin mRNA expression in adipose tissue. CLA increased These regulatory proteins resulting in an uptake of free fatty acids into the adipose tissue and decreasing uptake into the muscle tissue. This has been found to improve muscle insulin ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The wicked motives of his actions are what particularly makes Chris a cruel being. Chris ended up recording over 160 confirmed kills during the Iraq War, in which he recorded the most amount of sniper kills in U.S history. However, the intent of his kills were far from humane. Chris stated during his BUD/S training that, I wanted to be a SEAL in the worst way (Kyle 20). • 37. Physician Assisted Suicide And The Rights Of Patients Physician assisted suicide needs to be recognized by the federal government to show terminally ill patients that their right to autonomy is not being ignored. The Bill of Rights of Patients was constructed to outline just this. According to the American Cancer Society, the American Hospital Association drafted a Patients Bill of Rights to inform patients of what they could reasonably expect while in the hospital. One of the notes stated in the Bill of Rights of Patients is the right to autonomy. The right to autonomy specifically states that patients have the right and ability to make their own choices and decisions about [the] medical care and treatment that they receive (US Legal). If this right to autonomy is ignored what rights do terminally ill patients have? The answer is little to none. Physician assisted suicide and the right to autonomy go hand in hand. The more knowledge that people have, the greater their ability to make educated and insightful decisions about the medical choices that are accessible to them and their families. Physician assisted suicide should be like any other treatment someone can ask for, and the right to autonomy protects this doctor patient agreement. Physician assisted suicide should be readily available to all terminally ill patients to illustrate to them that their tremendous pain and suffering does not have to be prolonged. Everyone should be able to choose when and how they want to die, and they should be able to do so with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Harry Truman s Fair Deal After a decade of Democracy, the Republican party moved into the White House. Along with this shift in the government, there were also many economical and social issues that followed along. Once the first election of the decade in 1952, the government started to factor in the Korean War, inflation, the New Deal, Harry Truman s Fair Deal, and the major problem with John McCarthy and McCarthyism. In the background of the politics in the nation, economically things were changing. As World War II was ending and the Korean War was in its early stages, a period of inflation affected the United States. In order to deal with the rate of inflation old policies resurfaced and new policies were created, and finally groups of people were organized to maintain stability with the policies. Ultimately in the end the economic played a role in how the nation played out socially. This was the decade that: the baby boomers peaked, laws and protection plans were created to give veterans education and jobs, and finally civil rights movements were initiated. During the 1950 s government, financing, and social had rapid and powerful movements and changes. When it comes to the politics across the nation during this decade there were two elections, some trials, and new acts and legislations.
