Evaluation

Research
One strength of my research is the audience research to see who my product
would appeal to, so I found lots of graphs and articles on who video games appeal
and I found out it's mostly males, so I design my product to appeal to the male
audience. I almost researched four different documentaries about video games to
see how they have made them product and to give me inspiration. I also did some
content research so that I knew what I was going to put in my documentary. The
weakness of my research is that I should of look at more documentaries so that I
could get a better understanding on how they are made.
Planning
The streghths of my planning where that I did muiltiple idea generation like mood
boards and mind maps which like me create a consept and refine it. I also made a
colour scheme and a script so that I knew what I was going to say and what colours
I was going to use for the product. The weaknesses of my planning where that I
didn’t stick to the colour scheme I choose because I thought of a new one during
production, I also had done some last-minute changes to the script to make it fit
the production.
Time Management
I handed in my product in time for the deadline so I manage my time
well and I would say my product is 90% complete but I did run out of
time to finish the subtitles, so the first half of my video has subtitles,
and the second half doesn’t so if I had more time, I would use it to
finish the subtitles but other than that my product is complete and I
happy on how it turn out.
Technical Qualities
My product and the Space invader documentary have similar opening. For example, my video opens with the
doom start screen and then transitions to my opening animation which is like the space invader documentary
which starts with space invader gameplay play and then transitions to the space invader talking. My product
and space invader one also have similar background music, both are products have a retro video game style
background music that play throughout the video. Both are products also show a graphic on screen when
talking about something. Like in my video I talk about a 1970s computer and then show an image of it which is
the same with the space invader documentary. A difference between are two products is that I use a flashy
transition which is very bright to which to different gameplay and the space invader documentary uses a
smooth sliding transition which slides the images of the screen. Also, the space invader documentary show
gameplay off in a unique way, what he does is that is puts the gameplay over and old arcade cabinet so it like
the game is being play on the cabinet.
Aesthetic Qualities
My favourite thing about my work is my transitions. The first transition is the
one I made using keyframes and making the shapes slide down and then back
up again. This is this transition is visually pleasing because of the bright colours
and I fits the visual theme of my video. The next transition was one a made
using the gameplay and what I did was took a clip where I died and used to
transition to another clip where you get picked up by someone of the
battlefield.
Aesthetic Qualities
Another thing I like about my work is the subtitles and the visuals that pop onto
the screen to show what I am talking about. The one thing I would improve is
that I didn’t finish the subtitle throughout the whole video they are only in the
first part so if I had more time, I would add the subtitles throughout the whole
video, I would also change the font of the subtitles because they look a bit basic
and don’t fit the visual theme, I would also add more image to the video when I
am talking about certain stuff because u don’t think I adding enough of them.
Audience Appeal
My target audience was 16–24-year-old males who like to play video
games. I chose this as my target audience because they play first person
shooters more. To appeal to this target audience, I made sure to have lots
of gameplay so that they don't get bored, also because my target
audience is 16-24, I made my narration informal because I think is age
group will find the video boring if I talk formally. I made sure to add some
little joke in my narration to make less formal and make it more enjoyable
for the audience. I also added flashy animations to make it stand out
when watching it and to keep the viewers interested.
