2. What were you trying to achieve in
your main production?
• In our main production, we aimed make our production look as
professional-looking as possible.
• We also aimed to produce a convention crime-thriller film set in an urban
setting.
• As well as this, the primary purpose of our production was to entertain
our audience by providing an intense, exciting experience.
3. Ancillary Texts
• We produced two ancillary texts to promote our production.
• We produced a radio trailer which provided details on the plot of our film and
where an audience could watch our film.
• We also produced a film poster to promote our film.
4. Was our purposes reflected in the two
advertising products?
• I think in our poster, it reflects our gritty we wanted our film
to be.
• It displays the setting of our film, title of the film and release
date of our film.
• I also think it represents the genre of our film.
• I also think our radio trailer portrays how exciting our film is.
5. How effective do you think the two ancillary
texts are in selling your production? - Poster
• I think our poster works really well in promoting our film to an audience.
• It shows the setting of the film, and I think with the stencilised, two-colour effect we used, it
shows how gritty the setting is.
• I think the font is effective in representing the crime genre because of how conventional it is.
• I think by including acclaim from critics, it would sell the film to an audience.
• I think the poster works because it gives the audience some expectations of what the film is
about.
• I think by using reviews on our poster, it helps to sell the film to a poster – this is a tool
commonly used by independent films. Our film is also an independent film, so I think this
makes our poster somewhat conventional of an independent film poster.
6. How effective do you think the two ancillary
texts are in selling your production? – Radio
Trailer
• I think our promotional materials help to give an audience some
expectations of what they can expect to see if they watch our film (they
know it’s a crime film and they know that it’s a fast-paced film)
• We tried to get as much information about the film’s storyline into the
short radio trailer as we could, whilst still making the film seem appealing
through the radio trailer.
• We also had to make sure we didn’t reveal any spoilers in our radio trailer.
• I think it was a conventional trailer and I think the voiceover was
appropriate for a radio trailer.
7. How does our ancillary texts compare
with real advertising products?
• I think our film poster is comparable to real film posters.
• I don’t think it would look out of place if I was to see it outside of a cinema
advertising a film.
• I think it’s somewhat similar to the minimalist film posters that are used to
promote films.
• I think it’s a conventional film poster and contains all the conventional
features (cast, age certificate, distributor, production company, title,
release date and reviews).
• I think our radio trailer is a conventional radio trailer because it contains
many of conventional features, such as voiceovers and sound effects.
