The document provides an overview of project estimating. It discusses what estimating is, the objectives of estimating, categories of estimates like rough order of magnitude and definitive estimating. It covers items to estimate like development tasks and risks. Types of estimating like task-based and deliverable-based are presented. The document emphasizes that all estimates involve assumptions and contingencies to account for risks and unknowns. It provides examples of risk and contingency factors. Effective estimating requires experience, making reasonable assumptions, and validation techniques like triangulation of different estimate types.
Estimating for projects and programmes is a core project management competence. Estimating uncertainty is generally the largest single risk to project delivery. Here, estimating best practice is described along with a few hints and tips.
PMBOK defines an estimates as a quantitative assessment of the likely amount or outcome. Precise estimating in today’s business environment is crucial to the success of any project. A well compiled estimate sets the groundwork for successful project planning, and management of time, cost, and resources.
For the project management from available different estimation methods which one you should select and why. This will help you compare estimation methods like exerpt judgement, one point estimation, three point estimation, cocomo, top down estimation, bottom up estimation, etc. to identify time, efforts and cost with examples.

A Practical Guide to Answering This Question in an Agile Project. Software project estimation is hard. But our stakeholders need answers. In this presentation we seek to give our stakeholders the information that they need.
A short talk that explains a little of what Agile is; where it originated and how it works. This talk is applicable whatever method you use - scrum, XP, DSDM etc. Concludes by introducing ICAgile (the International Consortium of Agile).
The ideal Agile world describes dedicated Teams that implement a negotiable scope in fixed iterations to meet a moving target. The real world is usually more complex, and often requires interaction with projects and processes that have very different and “non-Agile” characteristics. This webinar describes the conduct of Agile governance for hybrid projects that contain very different types of processes. We will review the very real drivers that lead to these hybrid environments, and look at practical techniques for making hybrid projects successful.

Avoid software project horror stories - check the reality value of the estima...Harold van Heeringen
Many large software projects turn into software horror stories, resulting in newspaper headlines and even political issues. Often, the project costs and schedule were estimated unrealistically optimistic, using immature estimation techniques. A relatively simple way to avoid many problems is to perform a reality check on the estimate. This presentation was given on the conference of the International Cost Estimating and Analysis Association (ICEAA2014), June 2014 (Denver, USA)

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software FuzzingAftab Hussain
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.

Elevating Tactical DDD Patterns Through Object CalisthenicsDorra BARTAGUIZ
After immersing yourself in the blue book and its red counterpart, attending DDD-focused conferences, and applying tactical patterns, you're left with a crucial question: How do I ensure my design is effective? Tactical patterns within Domain-Driven Design (DDD) serve as guiding principles for creating clear and manageable domain models. However, achieving success with these patterns requires additional guidance. Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!
