Qatar, a country located in the Middle East by Saudi Arabia and the Persian Gulf,

the country, they have an average income of $400,000 each. Gross domestic

Qatar has become an economic powerhouse, ranging from the 1950 s up until over
the past couple of years due to several reasons. Since Qatar is located on the world
s largest natural gas reserve, this has allowed the country to employ more than
ninety two percent of its citizens in government funded jobs (Bates). In 1955,
Hamad bin Khalifah Al Than impeached his father and after this occurred, Qatar
became a force to deal with in the region and beyond (Bates). First, Al Than
allowed the U.S. set up its military headquarters just outside of the capital of Qatar.
Hamad went on to build the world s largest facilities for compressing liquid natural
gas, which now exports to Europe, Japan, and India (Bates). It really projected Qatar

3. Rebellion In Paradise Lost Essay
Rebellion in a Nutshell: The Plights of Satan, Will, and Lyra Normally, someone
wouldn t be arguing that Satan was the hero of the story, or even good in any sense
of the word. Pullman s The Amber Spyglass and Milton s Paradise Lost share many
similarities, but none were as striking as the view on authoritarianism and eventual
rebellion. In the first, The Amber Spyglass, Pullman shows the main characters Will
and Lyra in a constant struggle against the ruling authority, the church. In the second,
Paradise Lost, Milton displays Satan in a never ending battle for his own freedom
from God s ruling hand. In either story, the reader is made invested, but the two
rebellions are not equal. In The Amber Spyglass, the main characters win against...

This quote comes about from the idea that God wanted the angels to worship
Adam, but since Satan is senior to Adam, he feels wronged, and refuses to bow
down to man. God was not only displaying his own authority over all of the angel s
lives, another knock to free will, but also wanted to extend that authority to
another being. Whether that being was Adam or the son, Satan didn t want
anything to do with that proposition, and as such rebelled along with other angels.
God proves his omniscience in these instances, and also dominates over Satan,
showing that the angel has no free will of his own in these matters, and only plays
into the hands of God. That said, he still at least tries to rebel, though it fails
ultimately, since it isn t feasible to call it successful if it was in the master s plans
all along. On the side of the more successful Will and Lyra, there are interesting
points to touch on when it comes to their own rebellion. Anne Marie Robinson does
a fantastic job at giving examples of the strange relationship that people have to the
church. When they were in the land of the dead, Robinson points out that, One ghost
is unwilling to consider Lyra s offer; while still alive, he had believed in the
salvation of heaven after death, and since he is dead he thinks he obviously must be
in heaven. He is an example of those who follow religious leaders blindly, without
considering for themselves what the truth might

typeless dialect BCPL, it advanced a sort structure; made on a minor machine as an

This paper is about the improvement of the C programming dialect, the impacts on it,
and the conditions under which it was made.
C initiated existence in the years 1969 1973, in parallel with the early improvement
of the Unix working framework; the most imaginative period happened amid 1972.
An alternate spate of progressions topped somewhere around 1977 and 1979, when
versatility of the Unix framework was being exhibited. Amidst this second period,
the first generally accessible portrayal of the dialect appeared: the C Programming
Language, often called the `white book or `k r [kernighan 78]. At last, in the center
1980s, the dialect was formally institutionalized by the ANSI X3j11 board of
trustees, which rolled out further improvements. Until the early 1980s, in spite of the
fact that compilers existed for an assortment of machine architectures and working
frameworks, the dialect was just about only connected with Unix; all the more as of
late, its utilization has spread a great deal all the more generally, and today it is

Culture The definition of a culture has changed drastically over the history of people
trying to define it. The common theme that resides in most definitions is the notion
that a group of people whose knowledge and behaviors are learned and passed down

these behaviors and beliefs of a particular culture. This is a question that has no clear

In Sadie and Maud, the theme is that one should go through life doing what one
believes is right. Listening to others opinions is important, but one should never
make the mistake of altering one s beliefs to fit the standards and expectations of
others. In We Real Cool, the theme impresses upon the reader that one should not
follow in the footsteps of the speakers, for living an uneducated life full of danger
and alcohol only results in death. One s life then becomes wasted, with no
accomplishments and experiences of any worth. This poem also implies that one
should never choose the road to death when life is a choice, and that education and
achieving goals in life is important. However, in relation to Sadie and Maud, one
shouldn t just learn, go to college, and forget to live after becoming hide away in the

12. My Poem Poetry
In regards to discussing my experience in high school, I tend to keep quiet about it
primarily because of the lack of memories I have about it. However, I will say that
out of all the lessons that I learned in high school; in regards to concepts like time
management and with meeting deadlines, there has always been this one lesson that
has stuck with me. Consequently, while it s a skill that I don t use all that often, it s
used to great effect. I ve used it to write stories about those who have protested about
civil rights and about the right of racial equality. It might not be this big important
life lesson to most, but to me, learning to write in the imagist style of poetryhas
managed to grant me this ability to tell stories visually without the use of images
themselves.
Now, before we can discuss what imagist poetry is, we first have to figure out what a
traditional poem consists of. Traditional poetry itself tends to be more about the
rhythm and rhymes in a poem while also describing what s happening or what
something is in each rhyme. The rhythm of a poem having an emphasis on both
stressed and unstressed syllables in each word. For example, you can take a word like
water, which has one stressed syllable, and then pair it with another word with the
same kind of syllable. Since the word we want to rhyme is water, we can then pair
it with another word like hotter. We could even go so far as to describe what
happened to the water, for instance, This cup of water,

The second half of the tales of the Ancient Norse gods represent Loki in a negative
light by showing his change into an enemy of the gods. There is much debate
surrounding this change and when it occurred. Some state it was his natural path
due to his giant heritage, as his parents were considered enemies to the gods he
would also naturally become an enemy to the gods. Others consider the change to
occur after Loki loses a bet with the dwarfs and as payment has his lips sewn shut
while the gods look on and laugh. This is considered by some to be the moment
Loki begins to hate the gods as they did not offer to help him and instead mocked
him. However Loki s role in the death of Balder is universally considered to mark
the end of the gods. Balder was the most love of all the gods and in an attempt to
protect him forever his mother Frigg asked all things on all the worlds to swear
never to harm Balder. Loki on hearing of this discovered the one thing that had not
sworn an oath to not harm Balder and tricked Baldre s brother Hod into killing
Balder. Thus the Asgardians lose there most beloved family member and Loki loses
his place within the Asgardian court. Hence we see Loki s role in the religion turn
from ally into the enemy who will eventually bring about the downfall of the gods.
After Loki kills Balder he then insults
16. The Classic Inferno By Dante Alighieri
The classic Inferno by Dante Alighieri is beautifully woven to reflect the realities
or unrealities of the time. The various circles of hell are used by the writer to tell
the tale in a free flowing manner (Havely, 98). Interesting, however, is the manner in
which he describes the characters such that they are seen to be facing tragedies in
their life in hell. The writer categorizes the different types of sins that people can
commit and subjects the characters to various punishments, each of which is in a
separate circle in hell. Lawall opines that the writer uses a style that makes the reader
envision themselves in the poem (Lawall, 17). In so doing, the writer subjects the
characters to relatively tragic states even though they... Show more content on

The story narrates that Francesca and Paolo are both punished in hell for their
adultery and thus the subjection to the circle of lust (Alighieri, 1012). She
expounds that she had been married to Paolo s brother Gianciotto. Francesca
discloses that she was not shy of expressing her feelings towards Paolo, who she
loved even though she was married to his brother. One day, she reveals, her
husband caught them together inside her bedroom and was sure that they were
lovers. Francesca opened the door and pretended that all was well before her
husband. Unknown to Francesca, Paolo had got stuck in a ladder as he attempted
to run away. Gianciotto then killed the two of them, although he had not intended
to kill his wife. The circumstance that led to her death is an emphasis of the
beauty of love. When Gianciotto jumped to slay Paolo with his sword, Francesca
rushed in between and faced the death first. The husband was too disappointed and
ended up killing Paolo as well. The portrayal of the two characters as lovebirds and
the lack of love between Francesca and her husband show the reality that was then
(Alighieri, 1013). The writer further says, through Francesca, that Gianciotto was
thrown into the circle of Caina for killing his family members. This assertion, in
character is a balanced move to portray both parties (Francesca and Gianciotto) as
losers in the fight. However, the fact that

Liberal arts prepare diligent students for success by providing them opportunities to
learn about themselves and about others around them. The liberal arts shape students
perspective making them become more diverse in how they view the world. It
teaches students qualitative thought and quantitative thought and how those two
types of thought come together to form conclusions and effective decisions. Not only
does the liberal arts require students to think critically, but it also creates students
who know how to write and speak efficiently. A student who know how to talk to
people and knows how to explain their thought process will eventually become
leaders and great citizens for society. The liberal arts create student who can think for

is overseen by the god of wisdom and military victory, Athena. The relationships
between the humans and their god have similarities but are also significantly different.
The Iliad takes place in a city, Troy, which is in modern day Turkey. Achilles a great
warrior of Greek mythology participated in the Trojan War, on which Homer s epic

Achilles had been struck down and needed the courage to go and fight. Athena is in
favor of the Greeks because she saw a part of herself in Achilles, and frankly because
she hated the Trojans.
Fate bound the gods in Book 22 lines 190 209. As Achilles was face to face with
Hector, Zeus showed pity for Hector. In this scene, Zeus knew that Hector was
destined to die. Zeus wanted to save Hector, but was persuaded by Athena that it
was Hector s time. Athena argued with him that if he would step in and save Hector
that many other gods would be upset with his actions. Not only would the gods be
angry, but death was Hector s fate, and the gods were bound to it. This is an
example of how fate outweighed what the gods wanted to happen. Zeus was
wrestling with the thought of saving Hector or allowing Hector to meet his fate.
Achilles and Athena s relationship seemed to be superficial. Although Athena
seemed to care for Achilles, her motive came from viewing parts of herself within
him. The gods seemed to intervene when the scene looked as if it needed a bit of
excitement. For example, in Book 22, Hector was being chased along the city wall
by Achilles. Athena presented herself in the image of Hector s brother, DeГЇphobus,
to persuade Hector to stop running and fight with Achilles.
In The David Story, the largest portion of the story, takes place in Jerusalem. David
was a great warrior of the Hebrew era. He was famously known for killing the

1. Explain why OpenID offer users greater convenience and security than the current
system
By using the current system, convenience and security are considered as problems,
because the different sites have a different ID for the same user and also because
most of this sites are not prepared to focus on security.

Even that the identity provider would solve the security issue; it also can be a weak
point in our connection. If there is some kind of phishing into the Open ID service,
all our information and passwords are there, so the one who gets into the system
could get in our websites or modify our information so that we could not enter again.
Another interesting point to take into account is related to the website we visit and
we access to through the Open ID. Many companies rely on user registration forms to
gather information about their clients and/or potential clients. By using an identity
provider this kind of information disappears or is hidden, so the companies will need
to get the customers data through a different way, which would be costly and hard.
3. Would you consider using an identity provider to access content on the Web? Why
or why not?
In our opinion the identity provider is a useful tool; it is a new method that people
can use in order to stop giving their personal information to many sites in the web
which are not secure enough. It is also easier to remember just one login name and
one password instead of having one for each site. Even though, we don t think that
the security issue could be a advantage for them; for example if somebody gets
access to your account at an Open ID provider he may get access to any site

Both circuit switching and packet switching are methods of data communication
between two parties. In circuit switching, both parties agree on a specific path which
the data will travel along while the connection is open using a resource optimization
algorithm before the transmission begins. The route is used exclusively for the entire
session and only released when the session is terminated.
In packet switching, the path which the data takes is not predetermined but rather
decided upon by the packets during transit. It does this using the packet header which
contains all the information it needs to get to its destination. At each hop, the packet
will re evaluate the shortest path to get to the destination.
Packet switching is the more appropriate technology to be used for the internet

Aruba s first known inhabitant dates to 1000 A.D. The earliest known settlers were
known as the Caquetio Indians of the Arawak tribe from the South American

Caquetio Indians, were accustomed to living in small family groups, they were
known as skilled fishermen with only the use of roughly flaked stones and shell as
tools, hunters, and gatherers. Their only way of survival was dependent on the sea

During the late 15th century, 1499, an explorer by the name of Lonso de Ojeda

Budgets must be closely monitored (and stuck to) in order to fully achieve to the
businesses maximum potential. The processes and internal techniques must be
managed and all resources must be effectively used. It is very important for a
business such as Tesco to manage their resources and control their costs in order to
budget. Managing resources and controlling costs to a budget is very beneficial for
Tesco as it involves a lot of different resources and money is always flowing in and
out of the business, which, if managed well, will improve the performance of Tesco.
Managing physical resources is very important as they are essential for the day to
day running of the business. Tescos management should do things such as check
their machinery, equipment and premises regularly to make sure that everything is
efficiently working and also to help Tesco improve their overall performance. It is
also very important that Tesco provides employees with suitable induction and
training programmes on how to operate new machinery so they are up to date in
the knowledge of use and know how it can be used most effectively. If an employee
isn t familiar with how to use a piece of machinery, the efficiency of the business will

30. Capital Punishment Is A Cruel And Unusual Punishment
Capital punishment is defined as the legally authorized killing of someone as
punishment for a crime. There are many arguments that are for and against the death
penalty. Majority of these arguments contain broad categories ranging from morality
to attorney quality. Although most would support that capital punishmentis the closest
penalty for murder it is still used unequally across the prisonpopulations. Capital
punishment is a practice that the judicial system should abolish for the future
generations.
The death penalty is unconstitutional and violates numerous amendments. Capital
punishment violates the 5th amendment because it violates the due process clause by
denying the opportunity for exoneration. Since the process of an execution can
immobilize a person from being able to speak if they are in pain it is viewed that the
death penalty is a cruel and unusual punishment which violates the 8th amendment.
The violation of the 8th amendment also applies to juveniles and mentally retarded
criminals because they do not have the capacity to understand that the crime they
committed was a societal wrong. Statistically, the amount of people who are
convicted are generally from the same societal class. Due to this evidence, it was
decided that the death penalty violates the 14th amendment because those who
cannot afford adequate lawyers are not represented equally under the law.
Many would suggest that capital punishment is an effective deterrence when in
reality it has

Everyone is affected by the environment they grow up in. Not everyone will have

in how the characters make their decisions. In Montana 1948, the stigma around
Indians made Frank feel that his actions were acceptable. On page 112, David s
father gets angry at Wesley for arresting Frank, Some Indian thinks he put his hands

demonstrating the racism towards Indians during this time. His father s and the
community s acceptance of his actions allowed Frank to feel that what he was

Arriving at Venice, he promptly checks into a hotel. Making himself comfortable in

who is about 14 years of age. Achenbach noted with astonishment that the boy was

could match his perfection. ( Mann, 2004, p.1855). From this point on, I began to

2017). Deforestation also indirectly affects the water cycle by disturbing the
atmospheric circulation patterns. As evapotranspiration occurs in the water cycle
from the forests, the water rises up to the atmosphere and the wind moves the rain.
So when trees are cleared, the cycle of losing natural resources continues as fewer
trees lead to less water to evaporation in the water cycle which decreases the
precipitation the Amazonian forest need. This finally leads to more death of trees
and the ecosystem within the forest. Zemp et al. s result on forest resilience in their
simulation supports that the Amazon s forest survival also decrease as there is an
overlap in Zemp et al. s statement when they state that in their simulations, forest
resilience decreases overlap with deforested areas. Despite the evidence showing the
detrimental effects of deforestation, Zemp et al. s research focus on the quantity of
the forest and deforestation, therefore, the research has a gap such that other

38. Gun Assault Shootings
More and more often, we are saddened by the news of mass shootings. Whether it
takes place in a school or public area, these shootings are both disastrous and
mortifying. Families begin to feel anger and sadness and demand immediate justice.
Although these terrible events continue to happen, there have been no significant
steps taken towards the decrease in the number of weapons; specifically, assault
rifles. This leads one to question do we need to ban the right to own such weapons?
If the possession of these weapons is not made illegal, we run the risk of another
attack. A ban on assault rifles is not the answer because they are not the cause of such
events, and it is a constitutional right to own them.
In 1994, Congress passed the Federal Assault Weapons Banwhich eliminated the
manufacturing of certain assault rifles for private use (Plumer). This bill expired in
2004 and was never redrafted. Many mass shootings in the last few years, especially
ones at Virginia Tech, a movie theater in Colorado, and Sandy Hook elementary
school in Connecticut, Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Harvest Music Festival in Las
Vegas, First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs have stirred up the pressure to pass
a new bill.
Following the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, California

manufacturing, and importation of assault rifles. This bill includes a ban on

39. Essay The Deeper Meaning of Bread
People usually have a specific item that identifies their personality. It may certainly
be more than one item. Whatever the case may be, that item(s) represents in part or
in whole that certain individual. In the same way, every culture has something that
identifies them. The item could be either a tangible or an abstract object so as long
as it calls to mind the culture as soon as one sees it or after it is explained to them.
For this project however, I have chosen a tangible artifact. The artifact that I have
chosen is bread. Bread has fed man for thousands upon thousands of years. It goes

Bread is also associated with the word livelihood which basically is a mean of
support or subsistence (Merriam Webster Online Dictionary). Another definition of
bread is money or the food one needs to live. This use of the word is mostly found
in slang. Phrases like put bread on the table or I hate this job but I need the bread
denote this definition.
There are three main reasons why I chose bread as my artifact. The first reason I
believe it to be tied with my religious background. As a Roman Catholic I have a
deep reverence and respect for the Eucharist believing it to be the presence of
Jesus Christ Himself. The Eucharist serves as the fountain of life for Catholics. It
is an essential part of our spiritual life and provides food for our soul becoming for
us the Bread of Life. Just as the Eucharist serves for us Catholics as spiritual
nutrition and source for eternal life, bread being the basic food source that it is,
serves as physical nutrition and it is essential for the continuity of life in a person.
For this reason is why bread immediately popped into my mind when I thought about
what artifact I should use for homeless subculture.
Another reason why bread was my choice of artifact is because of the universality of
bread. By this I mean

Introduction
Child labour is a very real problem in the world today, and although it is declining,
progress is happening at a slow and unequal pace. Child labour by the International
Labour Organization is defined as work that deprives children of their childhood, their
potential and their dignity, and that is harmful to physical and mental development
(Diallo, Etienne, Mehran, 2013, p. 2). In the most extreme forms of child labour it
could account for child enslavement, separation from their families, exposure to
serious hazards and illnesses and being left to fend for themselves on the streets
(Dinopoulos Zhao, 2007). In order for certain types of work to be included as child

To further my argument I will use Ethiopia as a case study to show how
globalization has provided the push for countries to acknowledge the problem of
child labour and create actions to fix it. This paper will be divided as follows:
firstly I will provide a brief background on child labour in the world; secondly I will
provide the situation in Ethiopia; thirdly I will present the actions that the
government has placed to combat child labour in accordance with my argument;
lastly, I will give my recommendations regarding the implications of the actions of the
Ethiopian government.
Child Labour in the World Today
In 2008, there were approximately 215 million child labourers, aged 5 17, in the
world. According to the International Labour Organization, the number of child
labourers globally fell by 3% from the years of 2004 2008 which is slower in
comparison to the 2000 2004 period that had an 11% decrease (Diallo, Etienne,
Mehran, 2013).There has also been a 15% decrease in the number of girls in child
labour in contrast to boys who are having their work increase (United Nations, 2013).
Among them, 115 million children were in hazardous work which includes:
prostitution, agriculture, mining, militia, construction, manufacturing, service
industries, hotels, bars, and domestic service (Cigno, Rosati, Guarcello, 2002). The
terms hazard and risk are often used with this type of child

privilege of storing their cash. Bigger German banks have also considered the same
route, yet have not pulled the trigger so far. The larger banks have already passed on
negative rates through to their institutional clients. There is a growing concern that
customers will start withdrawing funds and storing them elsewhere. (International
Banker, 2016) This negative interest rate environment represents the decline in
strength of the German banking system which has been trending extremely little
profitability. In 2016, according to the European Banking Authority (EBA),
Germany ranked third from the bottom within the rankings of the EU with a trifling
2.6% return on equity within the first quarter. The EBA conducted a stress test that
unveiled 4 out of the top 10 biggest deficits in capital strengths belonged to the
country s lenders. The German Banking System is the most fragmented in the
Eurozone. There are so many banks competing for market share that profitability is
negligible for the biggest lenders and spread out among a large number of banks in
the country. The five largest banks in Germany only make up 32% of the market
share. Negative rates are forecasted to stay put for the foreseeable future while the
European economy and inflation remain weak. The ECB s negative interest rate
policy has cost banks in the European Region 2.64 Billion Euro so far. (International
42. Variation Of Alleles
Genetic variation of alleles is evident through physical attributes of humans and can
be attributed to the specific sequence of nucleotides in DNA. Gregor Mendel
experimented with plant breeding in order to determine that the inheritance of
different traits is dependent upon the differences in alleles, or genes. Two loci that
can measure the genetic variation in human populations are the LCT locus and the
TAS2R38 locus (Leicht McAllister, 2017). The LCT locus is located on
chromosome 2, and encodes for the enzyme lactase that breaks down lactose into its
monomers to aid digestion of dairy in the small intestine (Leicht McAllister, 2017).
The two potential alleles that LCT has are C and T, which can form three potential
genotypes in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We were then using the Hardy Weinberg Principle to calculate the observed and
expected values of genotype frequencies within the class and compare the results
using the Chi Square goodness of fit test (Leicht McAllister, 2017). Demonstrated by
the Hardy Weinberg Principle, that without any evolutionary forces, the allele and
genotype frequencies of sexual populations will remain constant between generations
(Sadava, 2011). The Hardy Weinberg Equilibrium is met be a population under five
specific conditions: no genetic mutation, random mating between individuals (no
sexual selection), infinite population size (no genetic drift, or any chance of variation
with allele frequencies), no gene flow (migration of new individuals into or out of the
population), and no natural selection (all genotypes contain the same relative fitness
for survival and reproduction). If any of these conditions are not met, the population
is not in Hardy Weinberg Equilibrium and evolutionis occurring. The expected
frequencies within a population are determined by two equations: p + q = 1 for allele
frequencies, and p2 + 2pq + q2 = 1 for genotype frequencies (Sadava, 2011). After
using the Hardy Weinberg Principle, we used the Chi Square goodness of fit test to
compare the expected and observed frequencies of the LCT and TAS2R38 loci, we
43. Arabian Economic Advantages And Disadvantages
After rapid growth in the international debt of developing countries in the 1970s and
the increasing incidence of scheduling back debt in the early 1980s, the risk of
countries reflecting the ability and willingness of a country to financial services has
been a topic of concern for the international world (Cosset and Roy, 1991).
As well as significant events that occurred on September 11, 2001, the associated
risks in international relations has increased substantially, and it becomes more
difficult to be analyzed and predicted for decision makers in the fields of Economics,
finance and politics. International investors are also aware that the globalization of
world trade and capital market openness poses a risk that could cause the financial ...

However, in a country naturally has advantages and disadvantages. In a country that
is strong in economics may have a weakness in political or social fields. This is the
one that causes a country still has risks although is included in a State that has a
stable economy.
One example is the case in the Arabian peninsula, the Levant. The Arabian peninsula
is the name of a giant peninsula in Western Asia that has the form resembles the

the world thanks to the existing oil reserves beneath it. However, not all the residents
of the Arabian peninsula has a prosperous people. Yemenlocated in the heel of the

only meager oil reserves, Yemen must also wrestle with the war tearing his territory.

there lasts incessant from past to present.

44. The Use Of Hypnosis And Its Effects On The Brain
Hypnosis has proven to involve much activity in the brain. It is much more than a
person obeying, there are underlying mechanisms in the brain that are still being
studied today.
Evidence
Hypnosis has been used for a variety of reasons. Two categories it is used a lot in are
addiction and phobias. With the use of hypnosis, a person can connect the addiction to
something extremely distasteful which in turn makes the person not want to
participate in the action anymore. Or hypnotism can change the mindset of a person
with an extreme fear so that they no longer associate that fear with the object or
action. Three studies were reviewed, a 2007 study on smoking cessation, a 2006 study
on dental phobia, and a 2007 study on needle phobia. A study by Carmody, Duncan,
Simon, Solkowitz, Huggins, Lee, and Delucchi (2007) researched different hypnosis
interventions and then chose the one they believed would be the most helpful and
compared it to behavioral counseling. Both of the treatments also had nicotine
patches. The intervention was geared to heighten the commitment to stop smoking as
well as prevention. The hypnosis session included suggestion and guided imagery.
Their study consisted of 265 men and women that smoked at least 10 cigarettes a day
and wanted to quit. 137 of those participants received hypnosis while 128 went
through behavioral counseling.
The hypnosis treatment group received two hour long face to face sessions provided
by a public health educator that was

46. Blue Black Boy Analysis
The Power of a Picture
One of the most intriguing and influential images included in Citizen by Claudia
Rankine is the image entitled Blue Black Boy. Blue Black Boy is a visual work of
art created by Carrie Mae Weems in 1990 s; Weems is a very successful female
African American artist. Through a close reading of the image, I was able to derive
meaning out of the various aspects that work together to create such an eloquent work
of art. In its formal aspects, Blue Black Boy has several important ingredients that
lead to its overall meaning. To start, the first thing I noticed is the vibrant white shirt
the African Americanboy is wearing; it really stuck out to me and was brought into
the foreground of the image. This immediately connected with ideas mentioned
earlier in Rankine s book, _______ (Rankine __). The white shirt as with the white
background make the subject stand out and a ripe target for scrutiny. Another very
intriguing aspect of the image is the words under each of the sequential identical
pictures of the boy. Under the first picture is the word blue with the others being
black and boy respectively. I believe Weems is implying how... Show more content

Black Boy, was created in a time where racism was very prevalent; every aspect of

the formal aspects mentioned above and shaped how Weems created her work of

Merck Co., Inc. Case
If one hold a key to resolve a very serious problem, one has a responsibility to put an
effort to make it happen, at least try one s best. In this case, river blindness disease
was a very serious problem, and Dr. Vagelos was the one who could make a decision
as to whether the research and development of a human version of ivermectin should
be carried on, then it was his responsibility to pursue it. Caused by a parasitic worm
carried by a tiny black fly, the disease brought about visual impairment and skin
lesions to millions of people. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimated in
1978 that some 340,000 people were blind because of onchocerciasis, and that a

In fact, Merck employees found the words inspirational. Setting a goal to alleviate
the pain of millions of afflicted people in the Third World will consolidate the
company s culture and uplift employees morale. In addition to that, this is not the
first time that the company will give something back to the community: Merck
had already donated considerable quantities of streptomycin to Japan, which had
faced especially high levels of tuberculosis in the aftermath of the World War II a
philanthropy that was repeated in 1958 when the Merck Medical Outreach
Program donated antibiotics, antiparasitic agents and vaccines for humanitarian
efforts in developing countries and disaster zones (Rea, Zhang, amp; Baras, 2010)
That is to say, if the company sees this program through, it will do a great service to
the world once again. Second of all, the approval of the pursuit of the human
version of ivermactin does not mean that he has to fund the program all at once or
fund it with a big amount of money that will consequently affect other developments
or other lines of production. The funding can be from the profits that the company
made in the previous year. In fact, according to the case, annual net revenue has
increased every year in the past ten years. The funding for this project can be some
kind of a long term plan. It is better to initiate the funding that last a long
48. Essay Review of Shrek
Review of Shrek In traditional fairy tales, ogres are man eating beasts; they are
regarded as being one of the most evil and hideous creatures in fairytales. The
prince is derived as a charming and handsome young man who is on a quest to rescue
a beautiful Princess who has been held captive for many years in a tall tower,
guarded by a fire breathing dragon, awaiting the arrival of a brave Prince.
The makers of Shrek have decided to reverse the tradition of a stereotypical fairy tale,
by creating a completely different story line while trying to incorporate some tradition
into the story.

In the third scene of the story, rewards are being given for the capture of fairy tale
creatures by Lord Farquaad s demand, as his orders are being carried out it gives the
impression that he is a very imposing ruler.
Many of the traditional fairytale creatures are visible in this such as the three bears,
Pinochio. Many of these fairy tale creatures use lines from there stories for example
baby bear (from the three bears) says my cage is far too small and starts crying.
A talking donkey is taken for trade by his owner. As the donkey refuses to talk the

donkey and he says I can fly. The gurads who have been ordered to capture the
fairytale creatureson behalf of Lord Farquaad, persue him in order to try and capture
him. As Donkey continues to run through the forest he bumps into Shrek. The gurads
catch up and the Commander reads a telegram written by Lords Farquaad demanding
that both Donkey and Shrek give themselves up to be captured.

We found that there was no significant difference between the memory scores of
those who thought they had to teach the information and those who were told
nothing. Yet, a consistent trend was found with both dependent variables. Although
the trend does not fall within the confidence band, it can be considered a consistent
trend because it is constant for all four different conditions. Refer to Figure 2, the
memoryscores were consistently lower when white noisewas present, regardless of
which condition the participants were in. In addition, the anxietylevels were slightly
higher when white noise was present regardless of active or passive condition, refer
to Figure 3. Our null hypothesis states that there will be no significant difference in
memory retention of the presentation information between those who are told they
must teach the presentation right after and those who are not told anything, and there
will be no difference in anxiety levels when noise is introduced into the classroom.
However, our study tested the hypothesis that the potential of having to speak
publicly would enhance memory retention. Yet, our results proved otherwise.
Opposite to what we hypothesized, the memory for all four groups remained
relatively consistent with one another with respect to the active and passive
conditions. Anxiety did not have a major impact in boosting memory performance,
even when white noise was in the background. We found that from the perspective of
the student,
50. Psy 201 Week 1 Evolution Research Paper
According to Ms. Witsaman, evolution is not the theory of how life began, which is a
common misconception nowadays, but the theory of how life has changed over time.
Theories are predictions which are backed up by several evidences and supported by
scientists. The evidences that scientists use now to prove include fossils, homologous
structures, analogous structures, vestigial structures, embryology, biogeography, and
biochemicals. Fossils are the remains of living things that once roamed the Earth.
Homologous structure are structures shared by different organisms that have similar
structure but different functions. Analogous structures are the opposite, they have
similar functions but completely different structure.Vestigial structures are... Show

I have to assume that the skulls that were closest to walking on four legs lived in
environments with a lot of trees and high grounds. That being said, now I have to
assume that our ancestors eventually found it easier to live in long plains and
migrated which made them lose the need to be efficient on all fours, thus leading to
bipedalism.
Conclusion:
My hypothesis is was not supported since there was not a single organism that
walked on four legs according to my data. I realized that just the general shape and
condition of the skull didn t correlate with how old it was, but the cranial capacity
was the major determining factor. Every time humans evolved the need for their
mental capacity increased and that s evident in the skulls: the oldest having the
smallest cranial capacity, the most recent having the largest cranial capacity. I also
want to say that according to my data, our ancestors didn t all just start walking on
two legs one day, but the need to walk on two legs wasn t there for a couple of our
ancestors which is why some are so close to not being able to walk on two legs at
all. That leads me to say that bipedalism was not dependant on when an organism
was alive but where an organism was alive. As for prognathism, I also believe that

A Study on Metafictive Devices in The French Lieutenant s Woman Abstract The
French Lieutenant s Woman is a splendid literary work written by English novelist
John Fowles. It was published in 1969 and received universally acknowledged
reputation as a masterpiece of postmodern novel. With intricate plot, the novel is
regarded as a compelling historiographic metafiction in contemporary British
literature. The characteristics of this novel are the metafictive devices employed by
the author. Different from the previous studies centered on the idea of role reversal
between characters or the analysis of sophisticated plot, this thesis is devoted to the
exploring of metafictive devices adopted in the novel. The paper will first state the...

Another characteristic is the adoption of multiple endings, adding an extra layer of
richness to the text. This kind of ending reveals the fact that the real word is full of
possibilities and fluctuations. The paradoxes of fictionality and reality constitute not
only the structure of novel but also the appearance of Sarah Woodruff. Sarah exists in
the novel as well as appears in the reality. Fowles once mentioned that The French
Lieutenant s Woman emerged from the fact that he was haunted by a recurring image
of a mysterious woman, standing motionlessly at the end of a quay and starring at the
sea. Thus Sarah in 1867 England is the materialization of Fowles haunting woman of
the 20th century. Fowles s innovative narrative techniques not only allow readers to
actively participate in the creation of his novel, but also illustrate his aim in
criticizing the female hysteria and the rigid Victorian convention. From the
perspective of sexual ethics, Sarah has been categorized as a new woman who refuses
to conform to the feminine role and the accepted ideals of marriage and maternity.
The delineation of Sarah with selfhood and autonomy displays Fowles s sensibility to
female liberation. Moreover, throughout the novel, the characters have suffered social
constraints in various manifestations. In line with the theme concerning
emancipation, Fowles has declared his resistance to be manipulated by conventional
morality and obligations. His

Smoking became a staple of Southern United States culture when it s environment
proved perfect for growing and harvesting tobacco. With Kentucky and North
Carolina accounting for 71% of tobacco grown in the United States, it is easy to see
how the smoking culture is so deeply embedded and loved by southerners (
Economies ). Since the birth of this relationship in the late eighteenth century, a
plethora of research has shown many negative side effects of smokingtobacco, such
as: cancer, increased risk for respiratory disease and cardiovascular disease, and tooth

In a strange turn of events, the American Cancer Society, the American Lung
Association, and the American Heart Association are all against the bill. They
claim it is an attempt by big tobacco companies to undermine local ordinances,
which would be abolished and unified to the new state law (McGrory). This whole
situation seems rather ridiculous considering both the advocates and the
opposition want to see electronic cigarettes regulated by age, the same way as
conventional cigarettes. Furthermore, state and local governments and
corporations seem puzzled with how to treat electronic cigarettes in public and in
the workplace. Most cities have already outlawed smoking regular cigarettes in
public places. Most corporations banned the use of cigarettes on the job years ago
and even have designated times and places to light up. Do electronic cigarette
smokers face the same destiny? Many city and state officials hope so. The
introduction of the electronic cigarette has provided the perfect loop hole for
smokers to avoid breaking the law and left lawmakers perplexed until now.
Minnesota has set forth a bill that will ban the use of electronic cigarettes anywhere
that conventional cigarettes are banned on the basis that there is no way for the
public to know what harmful chemicals are in e cigarettes or the amount of nicotine
inhaled (Irmen). Through a recent phone survey conducted by Blue Cross Blue

Charles M. Schulz, also known as Sparky, is one of the most influential cartoonists
due to his effort on the Peanuts. He drew nearly 18,000 strips for it in the fifty
years it ran. He won many awards for his cartoons. One of the biggest is a star on
the Hollywood Walk of Fame right next to Walt Disney. His talent is still relevant
today due to the Peanuts. Although he requested that no other artist draw more
comics after he died, reruns of his comics are still appearing in newspapers and the
television specials are stories based off his comics.
He also did other drawings that weren t related to the Peanuts. In one illustration titled
Notre Dame, he used a variety of different visual elements of compositions. One
