1. Essays On Reading
Composing an essay on the subject of "Essays On Reading" presents a unique set of challenges
that require a delicate balance of personal insight, literary analysis, and critical thinking. At first
glance, one might assume that the task is straightforward, given the familiarity with the act of
reading itself. However, delving into the intricacies of this topic demands a nuanced approach.
To begin with, crafting an engaging introduction that captures the essence of reading and its
multifaceted nature can be challenging. How does one encapsulate the vast world contained
within the pages of books, the diverse genres, and the transformative power of literature in a few
opening sentences? Moreover, striking the right chord between scholarly analysis and personal
reflections is a perpetual tightrope walk. It's not merely about summarizing the act of reading but
also about delving into its profound impact on individuals and society.
Navigating the body of the essay requires a thoughtful selection of themes and subtopics.
Whether exploring the historical evolution of reading habits, the cognitive benefits, or the
societal implications, the challenge lies in maintaining a cohesive narrative. The risk of veering
into tangential discussions or becoming overly broad looms large, demanding a constant
reassessment of the thematic focus.
Furthermore, incorporating relevant examples, literary references, and scholarly perspectives
adds another layer of complexity. Striking a balance between the academic and the accessible is
crucial to ensure that the essay resonates with a diverse audience. The process involves not only
in-depth research but also the ability to synthesize information seamlessly, presenting a cohesive
argument that encourages readers to ponder the significance of reading.
As the essay approaches its conclusion, there's the delicate task of summarizing key points and
leaving a lasting impression. The challenge here is to avoid redundancy while reinforcing the
central ideas. Crafting a conclusion that lingers in the reader's mind requires finesse, as it should
provide a sense of closure without stifling the contemplation inspired by the preceding discourse.
In conclusion, writing an essay on the topic of "Essays On Reading" demands a careful interplay
of creativity, analytical prowess, and scholarly rigor. It requires the author to navigate a complex
landscape, weaving together personal insights, literary analysis, and broader societal
implications. Despite the challenges, such an essay offers a rewarding opportunity to explore the
profound influence of reading on our lives.

In house women s activities invariably revolve around the kitchen stove into the
house and any improvement in the design of the traditional chulha (stove) will help
in reducing the fuel intake and the inconvenience of smoke and soot. Smokeless
chulha which is the modern chulha or stove is a cooking stovemainly used in the
village area that can be made with locally available material like cow dung, clay,
soil, chimney pipe and net iron plate. (Naeher et al., 2007; Smith, 2006; WHO, 2006).
In villages, people usually cook food inside their houses using the traditional chulha

Smokeless chulha are commonly used for the heating food and cooking in developing
countries in the developing countries.
Global Scenario
Developing countries mostly consume significantly less energy than the developed
nations, however, they used 50% of energy is for the cooking food. The average
rural family mostly spends 30% or more of their income on purchasing charcoal
and wood for cooking. Most of the urban poor people mostly live in a slum area
also frequently spend a significant portion of their income on the purchase of wood
or charcoal. (W.H.O 2006)
Cooking on an open fire can cause increased health problems brought on from the
smoke, particularly lung and eye aliments, but also birth defects. Replacing the
traditional chulha with an improved one and venting the harmful smoke out of the
house through ventilation can significantly well improve a family s health.
Erosion and deforestation are the result from harvesting wood for cooking fuel. The
most important goal of most improved cooking stoves (chulha) is to reduce the
pressure placed on local forests by reducing the amounts of stoves

How do the Mirabal sisters compare to colonial patriots? Both fought for freedom.
Both risked their lives to gain their freedom. And even though all of the Mirabal
sisters were involved,
I believe that Minerva was the most courageous. She fought for her personal freedom,
she fought for the rights of women, and she even brought her own family into the
rebellion to assist her in fighting against tyranny.. Through this essay I will explain
my overall opinion and show that
Minerva was the bravest and most devoted of the Mirabal sisters.
Minerva first began to show her bravery when she wanted to go to a boarding school.

Sensitivity Analysis The following is the sensitivity analysis of the Boeing project
which gives optimistic and pessimistic estimates for the underlying variables of
volume and cost of sales. The purpose of the sensitivity analysis is to express cash
flows in terms of the variables of this project. Boeing had to determine what the
decide what the underlying variables were which in this case happen to be
development costs and the per copy costs to build the 7E7. Based on the above
sensitivity analysis it reveals that the nature of Boeing s gamble on the 7E7 is high.
Given the information in the case, they forecast that the development costs would be
$8M with a base case assumption of 80% as the percentage of costs of goods sold to
sales. This would earn a IRR of 15.7%, however, if costs were $10M with an 84%
assumption this would have an IRR of 8.6% or a net change of 7.1 Therefore, the
gamble is high because the development costs not only swing $4M but the IRR also
has a great variance of 12.7 given the best case IRR of 21.30% and worst case of
8.6%. Optimistic Best case scenario includes a cost of capital that is lower than
expected. We used the rate of 5.85%. However, if yield to maturity rates are lower
than expected, we can lower the WACC. For example, a rate of 3.393% would give
us a WACC of 14.83% instead of 15.44%. Or, let s say that the riskiness of this
project was over calculated. A beta of 2 instead of 2.54 would
5. The Women At The Tomb
The Women at the Tomb. (Lk. 24: 1 12) The Lucan account of the resurrection of
Christ began with the pericope of the Women at the Tomb This is the first of three
resurrection stories that highlight the resurrection of Christ In the first, two angels
appear to the women telling the good news of a living Christ (Luke 24:1 12) In the
second is Jesushimself who delivers the message of the resurrection to the two
disciples who walk to Emmaus (24:13 35) And in the third periscope, Jesus appears
to the eleven disciples in Jerusalem (24:36 49) This chapter and the book ends with
the story of the ascension to heaven (24:50 53) This latter serves as epilogue and
connection to the book of Acts of the apostles, which is also written by the same
author. Luke s style suggests that he used various sources to write this
pericope. The pericope occurs in all three gospels and even in John . It is situated
after the passion, and death of Jesus. The comparison reveals the following
common details which build the story: 1) the women go to the tomb to prepare
Jesus body. 2) They go to the tomb the first day of the week early in the morning.
3) They found the empty tomb. 4) They also found the angels who gave a report. 5)
It is followed by the response of the women. 6) They ran to look for the apostles
and 7) the apostles responded to the women s report. Darrel Bock says that only 17
of Luke s 169 terms are in agreement with Mark. Luke s account complements the
other Gospels giving

MICHAEL ARLEN: ODE TO THANKSGIVING
It is time, at last, to speak the truth about Thanksgiving, and the truth is this.
Thanksgiving is really not such a terrific holiday. Consider the traditional symbols
of the event: Dried corn husks hanging on the door! Terrible wine! Cranberry jelly
in little bowls of extremely doubtful provenance which everyone is required to
handle with the greatest of care! Consider the participants, the merrymakers: men
and women (also children) who have survived passably well throughout the years,
mainly as a result of living at considerable distances from their dear parents and
beloved siblings, who on this feast of feasts must apparently forgather (as if

might be, since there are no easily recognizable ingredients visible to the naked eye.
Consider for a moment the Thanksgiving meal itself. It has become a sort of refuge
for endangered species of starch: cauliflower, turnips, pumpkin, mince (whatever
mince is), those blessed yams. Bowls of luridly colored yams, with no taste at all,
lying torpid under a lava flow of marshmallow! And then the sacred turkey. One

9. The Model For Large Integrated Companies
I.INTRODUCTION
In the 20th century, the model for large integrated companies was to own, manage,
and directly control their assets. In the 1950s and 1960s, the companies adopted to
diversification methods with a motive to protect profits, even though expansion
needed multiple layers of management. Subsequently, organizations that attempted to
compete globally in the 1970s and 1980s were handicapped by a lack of agility that
resulted from bloated management structures. Hence, in order to increase their
flexibility and creativity, many companies decided to develop a new strategy of
focusing on their core businesses, this new strategy led to the evolution of a strategy
known as Outsourcing .
Outsourcing can be defined as the strategic use of outside sources to perform
activities traditionally handled by internal staff and resources . In this strategy, the
organizations contract out major functions of their manufacturing products to more
specialized and efficient service providers, who later become valued business
partners. It looks more like a simple supplementation of resources by subcontracting,
but it is actually different to outsourcing. In actual outsourcing, the organization is
also involved in substantial restructuring of particular business activities including,
often, the transfer of staff from a host company to a specialist, usually smaller,
company with the required core competencies. The current stage in the evolution of
outsourcing is all about the

In The Seventh Man there is an unfortunate event that occured. The seventh man
watched his friend K. be swepped up by a big wave that killed him when he could

it for the rest of his life. The narrator of the story The Seventh Man never showed
him ever forgiving himself for that day. The seventh man lived with such guilt in
his life he missed out on the joy in life which K. would have wanted. The seventh
man should be forgiven of his failure of saving K. because that is what K. would

19. The Plan For Aviation And Aerospace Industry
Describing the blueprint of a particular aviation career
Background
The aviation and aerospace is one promising front in terms of careers and
opportunities. Just like any industries in the 21st Century, aviation and aerospace
industry is a complex one that requires skilled labor in all of its ranks. The demand
for the various job positions in the industry is motivated by both inadequate skilled
personnel and the rapidly increasing demand for the airline transport. From the
beginning, aviation opportunities were believed to be only piloting, engineering, and
machine operator. Well, as that notion is gradually fading, more and more
opportunities are springing up in the exponentially increasing airline companies
(Goglia, 2014). These are air ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Finally, one needs to master their passion and to question the purposes for the career
choice.
With the opportunities in the aviation industry in the open, it serves as a wakeup call
for individuals to pursue career choices that are aligned to aviation and aerospace
industry. Among all the choices in this industry, I particularly will single out one part
of aviation system: the airline ground staff, most specifically, the air traffic controller.
The air traffic controller job
Air traffic controllers are one of the most important airline ground staff members,
tasked with the role of keeping airlines separated when flying under instrument flight
rules (Outlook, 2015). With the changes taking place in the air traffic controlall the
time, this front is believed to be one of the most lucrative job opportunities in the
near future. It is a well paid career with a minimum requirement of a standard four
year degree qualification.
The entry requirements for this post would have varied details between airline
companies but the standard requirements are minimum distinction in secondary
school certificate, with as in Math and English as well as eligibility to work in the
country that hosts the airline company. In most cases, the respective airline
companies provide training and certification programs for these positions.
However, before one is inducted into the air traffic controller programs, there are

20. Misfortunes Of RamГrez
The Misfortunes of Alonso RamГrez describes the adventures of RamГrez, a poor
Spanish American carpenter from Puerto Rico, taken captive by British pirates and
who voyaged with them for two years. The book portrays RamГrez as a victim while
emphasizing the graphic depictions of English buccaneer cruelty in order to serve
RamГrez and the Mexican Viceroy s purposes. However, through careful
examination of the story, I believe that he indeed was a pirate, and will explain so in
this essay by arguing four points: first, that RamГrez headed towards familiar territory
due to the lack of paperwork for his belongings, second, his lack of explanation of
why he did not escape whenever possible, third, his ownershipof special weapons, and
lastly, the words chosen to narrate the story. To begin, RamГ

However, Cornelio washed his hands, and blamed RamГrez and his men for planning
this mutiny. The Captain charged RamГrez of treason and sedition (129). If RamГrez
was indeed an outsider like he claimed, he would not have used the words treason
or sedition, as he could not have betrayed someone that did not confide in him on
the first place. Others may say that this indeed would be words used by a victim, as
they would certainly betray their oppressors and revolt against them. Yet, if RamГrez
was indeed an outsider, he would not be betraying them, he would only be acting as
expected from a captive. In conclusion, despite the ambiguous portrayal of RamГrez s
relationship with the English raiders, through close examination of the text, one is
able to conclude that RamГrez was a pirate himself. RamГrez s desire to reach
familiar land, not fleeing when opportunity presented itself, his ownership of
weapons acquired in his travels, and the phrases used to describe his actions against
the English, bring me to conclude that he indeed was

Martin luther king is most greatly known for his I have a dream speech but there
is much more to Mr. Kings life than just that. King led many Civil rights
movements since the mid 1950 s using his words and non violent tactics such as
boycotts, sit ins, and protest marches to fight segregation. Born in Atlanta Georgia
In January of 1929 King lived with his parents Alberta Williams and Michael
Luther, his two siblings, Christine and alfred, and his Grandparents, Jenny Parks
and Adam Daniel Williams. His Grandfather, Adam was the pastor at Ebenezer
Baptist Church which is the church where Martin would later be the Baptist

playing sports such as baseball and football. While King was growing up he knew
that black men were not granted the same rights as white people. He knew they

graduated from Booker T Washington high school in 1944. Later he enrolled in
Morehouse college and got his degree in sociology and later went to Crozer

In the time period from 1450 1750, Asia began to use multiple strategies to to build
their empires. Many aspects of their culture including their government, religion, and
education were refined and changed. During their time period, Europe began to move
into Asia in order to gain influence. While the empires of Eastern Asia focused more
on their governments and education, the Europeans came and attempt to spread their
religious ideas, especially Catholic countries. During this time in history, government
positions were commonly handed down from generation to generation with in a

Muslim empires including the Ottomans, Safavids, and the Mughals. As shown in...

In Asia, European nations, especially those who were Catholic, were interested in
spreading Christianity to Asia. Countries, such as Spain were successful in spreading
Christianity throughout the Americas. Western Europewas looking for the same
success in Asia that they had in the Americas. Many missionaries were sent to Asia
to fulfil these hopes. In document 4, Matteo and his lay companion Paul Siu Kwang

traditional Chinese attire. The Jesuits, the group for which Ricci was associated with,
believed that the best way to convert a civilization, such as China, was to immerse
themselves in their culture. Missionaries did not just focus their efforts in China. As
document 13 shows, Writing of St. Francis Xavier Letter from Japan 1551, these
missionaries worked to translate the Bible to allow those they were converting to
better understand Christianity in their own language. This would allow a
significantly higher number of people in Japan to convert, and the missionaries
would be considered successful. On the other hand, the document also shows the fears
that the Japanese had in regards to converting to Christianity. According to Xavier,
the Japanese see the rightness of Christianity as opposed to their previous beliefs, but

Early Childhood Special Education has come so far in the last decade and that is
thanks to different screeners, assessments and interventions. ECSE (Early Childhood
Special Education) teachers use different assessment tools to thoroughly evaluate
each child s growth across all areas of development and learning within the
classroom. There are a variety of tools that ECSE teachers can use to help with
assessing children to see what the child s strengths and weaknesses are. Some tools
that teachers use is; norm referenced tests, portfolios, checklists and observations.
ECSE teachers need to consider the different factors for each student whether it be
linguistics, culture, or other appropriate practices.

In special education, almost every norm referenced test compares an individual

the normal standard criterion (example 7 out 10 correct) but are based upon each
student s individual score compared to the group of individuals. (Hidden

24. The Importance Of Teaching And Learning
Teachers involving students in the learning process should require them to utilize
thinking skills of higher order. Teachers should also designed lesson plans that are
rigorous but can be adaptable to each student (whether students are general or special
education) in the class. Educators should have activities that will nurture social
development and student responsibilities, as this will give them the opportunity to
exercise responsibility and practice interacting with others. Due to the fact students
are in high school, there are no rewards for good behavior being practice. However,
punishment in the class will be dealt with immediately in order to provide a stable
environment of teaching and learning; as policy and procedure is addressed for
misconduct at the beginning of the year Teachers must encourage students to use
higher order thinking skills in order to involve them in the learning process, (Bonwell
Eison, n.d.). Higher learning thinking skills students should be using in and out the
classroom are analysis, synthesis, and evaluation, (Carlos, 2017). For instance, Ms.
Carlos, an instructor at McNair High School is teaching a lesson on Algebraic
Concepts and understanding their terms and formulas, she can involve the students in
group discussions by having the students to work formulas on the board. Another way
she can have the students use high learning thinking is to include various applications
using the formulas in the lessons. One technique that is
25. Anyone Lived In A Pretty How Town Literary Devices
E.E. Cummings uses many different literary devices throughout Anyone Lived in
a Pretty How Town, to explain the setting, as well as the tone of the piece. By
using devices such as imagery, rhymes, and metonymy, Cummings creates the
illusion of a pleasant town, that experiences many seasons together, and is
eventually plagued by a death of a town member. Cummings chooses his diction
carefully in order to make sure the audience is getting the right appearance of the
town, he does so by choosing colorful words that will allow the audience to
imagine the town and it s people. By using phrases such as, Women and men(both
little and small) it shows that the townspeople are very much the same, all small, all
little, not much variation between them. stars rain sun moon(and only the snow can

26. A Literary And Historical Standpoint
Although it is practical from a literary and historical standpoint, object driven
analyses of Shakespeare s First Folio fail to account for, as Brown says, the story
of the object asserting itself as a thing. By treating the First Folio as only a book
meant to be read for information these analyses let it stagnate in a subject object
binary which leads us to falsely believe that the subject creates knowledge from the
object. Or as Brown says, we are stuck viewing the object as a code by which our
interpretive attention makes them meaningful (Brown 4). This line of thinking is
problematic because the object then lacks agency. When the object transitions to a
thing, the binary no longer applies and we can see that it has knowledge with or
without a subject involved. Additionally, this shift out of the binary allows for the
thing to become its own subject. If, as Baudrillard believes it is the subject that
totalizes the world (qtd in Brown) then this implies that the thing is not merely
passively impacted by the world but actively impacts the world with its presence.
However, only viewing the First Folio as a thing in opposition to an object also limits
our study of it. Instead, I propose that we should examine the story of an object
becoming a thing. Before I further my argument I want to take a moment to fully
examine the difference between an object and a thing and why current scholarship
has failed to acknowledge the importance of the First Folio becoming a thing.

Education in ancient Greece has heavily influenced education in modern day
America. Many leaders and philosophers in ancient Greece impacted education then,
as well as for many generations to come. Similarities between education then and
education now, in America, are many. While there are many similarities, there are
also quite a few differences. Regardless, it is valuable to understand where some of
our ideas, philosophies, and educational focus stems from.

and Ancient Greece. Girls in Ancient Greece did not always go to school. In
modern day America, almost all the girls go to school. Boys in Ancient Greece had
a much different curriculum than what we have in schools now. In Ancient Greece
girls had to be taught how to do stuff at home by their mother and in modern day
America we are taught stuff by our teachers. What the boys learned to do back then,
was how to fight. Now in modern day America boys are not being taught how to fight.
In Ancient Greece they learned writing, reading, and how to fight but our modern
day American schools have improved. In modern day education has grown to

science. Ancient Greece education did not have laptops or technology as we have
today in modern day America. modern day America reading is different that reading

The central theme of the Readings was a simple quote stated by Henry Ford
Coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress; working together is
success . Meaning that the Indians of the Northwest coast came together as a unit,
which marked the beginning of what success could be and by staying together they
progressed and over all succeeded even through obstacles they might have had to
face. Coming together made it possible for the Indians to develop woodworking,
homes, canoes and etc. By choosing to unselfishly become as one they developed a
massive civilization through the natural resources of the land. For example the
various types of fish such as, salmon, cod, smelt and canoes carved from cedar off

32. What Is The Synopsis Of Ang Tunay Na Ina
FILM ANALYSIS
Ang Tunay na Ina is a Filipino melodrama, directed and written by Octavio Silos.
The major casts of the film are Rosario Moreno as Magdalena, Rudy Concepcion as
Roberto, Tita Duran as Tita, Quiel Segovia as Antonio, Dona Luisa as Nati Rubi,
Don Alberto as Precioso Palma, Naty Bernardo as Aling Andang. This is one of the

The film focuses on how Magdalena is longing for her lost daughter. Her daughter
is the only reason why she felt incomplete and unhappy that is why she tried to find

the film emphasized how she proved that she is the real mother of Tita, not only

way she feels towards her children. Don Alberto and Dona Luisa was talking about

Helmut Walser Smith s A Butcher s Tale and Alain Corbin s Village of Cannibals,
present case studies of historical accounts which demonstrate the power of masses
and of crowd violence in the small Prussian town of Konitz and the isolated French
village of Hautefaye. Small towns are generally attributed to communal
characteristics where citizens help and protect one another; however, the events that
unraveled in these two cases generated a shock factor to the neighboring towns as it
exemplified the power of rumor and the overall naivety of the inhabitants of the two
towns. These case studies are also reflections of how the most civilized of societies
are able to resort to barbaric actions through mere hearsay and allow their prejudices
to shape their perception. This paper will examine the dynamics of the crowd, the
explanation for the unfolding events and the ways in which both authors reach their
conclusions of the unraveling of these events. The particular unfolding of events in

The factory owner has done nothing to earn the money and the $5 per hour he
receives is surplus value , representing exploitation of the worker. Even the tools
which the factory owner provided were, according to Marx, necessarily produced by
other workers (Wollstein).
According to the labor theory of value, all profits are the rightful earnings of the
workers, and when they are kept from the workers by capitalists, workers are
simply being robbed. Marx called for the elimination of profits, for workers to seize
factories and for the overthrow of the tyranny of capitalism. Basically out of the
worker labor, the companies make far more than what they paid the workers, while
the companies get richer and richer while the workers remain poor (Mandel).
There are some flaws to the labor theory of value. For example, most workers
prefer to be paid when their work is completed rather than when their products are
sold which may be months later. For workers to be paid now, rather than later,
someone must advance their wages, and clearly this service has a value. But
proponents of the labor theory would have it both ways: workers are to receive the
full future value of their product now. The final theoretical failure of the labor
theory of value is the value effort fallacy. It is folly to assume that all effort
produces value. Every day each of us wastes time on fruitless efforts. To equate labor

37. Irving Empire Case Study
The basic organizational structures are as follows:
1.Functional structure
In functional structure, as the name suggests, organizational units are formed
according to different functions involved in organization. For example, in an
organization employees can be grouped into different functions like payroll,
accounting, national sales, purchasing, advertising, market research etc. In such type
of structure individual units perform activities that are specific to their function and
hence such structures type of structure develops expertise in long run.
2.Divisional structure

achieve success on global level. The division or department which is newly created,
take cares of business in that particular locality and hence provide the service while
considering the demand of locality.
Out of the four basic organizational structures Irving Empire shows usage of
divisional structure. The reasons behind is that the whole empire was divided into
different divisions like forestry, trucking, food processing, newspaper, oil refineries,
service stations, etc, which are controlled by different family members. Hence it is
evident that the different divisions are run in such a way that it does not affect other
divisions.

During the last decade, more investors have been jumping on the classic car
bandwagon, buying antiques and otherwise prized automobiles. The demand has
helped push the value of classic cars up nearly 500 percent in the decade ending in
2015, according to the Knight Franklin Luxury Investment index. Twenty five cars
have been sold for over $10 million. Eight of those happened in 2015, including
records for Jaguar ($13.2 million), Porsche ($10.1 million), and McLaren ($13.75
million). Incidentally, the record for a classic car is from 2014 when a 1962
Ferrari 250 GTO Berlinetta fetched $38 million at auction. Why have classic cars
experienced such growth in popularity as an investment? The Internet makes it
easy to determine a cars value and has allowed more people to become savvy
investors. Investing in classic cars is similar to many other types of alternative
investments like art, wine, and collectibles in that investing is a passion. An
investor does not need millions of dollars to invest in classic cars. Spending under
$20,000 is completely acceptable. Regardless of your level of investment there are
a few rules to remember when investing in classic cars: Find the best example of

39. Manifestation Determination Summary
In this video, Jennifer Honig focuses on a manifestation determination for students
on IEPs. Throughout the video, she explained the law and MD process in detail. A
manifestation determination (MD) is a meeting that must be held after a decision to
change the placement of a student with a disability because of a violation of a
student code of conduct (15:44). Basically, it is to see if the student misbehavior was
related to his or her disability.
According to the video, when there is removal such as suspension or placement in
other setting is for up to 10 consecutive days, the school must hold a meeting to make
a MD to review the decision to change placement because of a violation of a code of
student conduct.
The first step is to notice to parents of decision to change placement and of
procedural rights under 34. Then the local educational agency, the parent and relevant
members of the IEP team must attend the MD meeting. In the meeting for MD, they
will review teacher observations, IEP, and all relevant information in the student s
file to determine, if the behavior caused by or directly and ... Show more content on

In this video, I have learned how important it is to gather information about the
student. Sometimes, it is hard for teachers to keep the record or observe the student
because they are too focused on the lesson and teaching the content. However, a good
teacher must not only teach the student but able to observe them too. In my future
classroom, I will gather information about the student through various methods such
as interviews and direct observations. It will be wise to have some kind of easy
techniques to keep the record of the students and to organize it in the classroom. Not
only that I will encourage all of the parents to keep the record of their letters, emails
and any documentations to support their child when they go through the meeting like

Every week, a new issue of Sports Illustrated magazine is distributed throughout the
world, showing a provocative image of a woman athlete, on the front cover or
inside, barely clothed, belittling a women s athletic ability in their professional
sport. In different aspects of the world today women are underrepresented such as
political positions, STEM and most importantly sports. Even though Title IX has
increased females participation in sports there is still a lack of support of women s
athletic events. The main focus of this review is to examine how women athletes are
portrayed in the media compared to men athletes.

of athletic events on television. Athletic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many athletes are stereotyped by gender because the commentators are the ones
speaking to the public while the public get familiarized to these stereotypes. Many
commentators comment very stereotypical comments but to the public it is not very
shocking due to the multitude of times it has occurred which they have grown
familiar to. One of such was by a commentator , Colin Murray said during the
Olympics that the ultimate athlete would have the stamina of Mo [Farah], the speed
of [Usain] Bolt, the leap of [Greg] Rutherford and the bottom of Jess Ennis
(Stanistreet). To a professional female athlete this was a very gender stereotyped
comment due to the fact that only one of the four athletes mentioned was a woman
and that the provocative part of the athlete, the butt, was given to a female athlete as
the ultimate athlete. Through a study on the NCAA National Championship Games
for men and women basketball, they have discovered that the commentators
constantly mark the women s game repeating phrases like, ...some of the best women
s college basketball teams.. , ...is a legend in women s basketball... , and ...this
NCAA women s semifinal is brought to you by ... (Messner and Duncan). The word
women was periodically brought up during the female championships, marking the
gender stereotype, but while the male championships

Drive throughs are a leading cause in air problems such as air pollution. The big
debate now a days is whether drive throughs being ban or not being ban. Drive
throughs are leading causes for horrible air quality, waste a lot of gas in the world,
and the also cause obesity. On the hand other they are good on the marketing side
of things for business. Although drive throughs are very useful it also causes some
of the biggest problems in the world and atmosphere. Frist of all, drive throughs
can lead to a waste of a lot of gas. According to Trapped in the Drive Through and
Wasting Gas, In 2007, a California state science fair student estimated that vehicles
idling at California s 8,500 drive through businesses consumed 32 million gallons
of gas. This shows instead of wasting your gas on meaningful cause we chose to
waste it on drive throughs. Also, it states Just 10 minutes of idling at the drive thru
window per day adds up to an average of 22 gallons of gasoline a year at current
pump prices. That s $80 a year on wasted gas. This shows that instead of wasting gas
by driving ten minutes on the interstate people decide to sit in drive throughs and

ABSTRACT A study was carried out to assay for oil degrading potential of fungi
isolates on diesel, kerosene and petrol. Water samples were collected aseptically and
analyzed microbiologically using standard techniques. The fungi isolated from the
water samples were: Trichoderma viridae, Aspergillus niger, Aspergillus fumigatus
and Stochyborys atra. The confirmatory test for oil utilization potential of the isolated
fungi was carried out using the enrichment method, minimal salt broth (MSB). There

It is found to improve on nature s own way of degrading oil. Bioremediation is an
option that offers the possibility to destroy or render harmless various contaminants
using natural biological activity. As such, it uses relatively low cost, low technology
techniques, which generally have a high public acceptance and can often be carried
out on site Keeler, 2003). However, the time scales involved are relatively long, and
the residual contaminant levels achievable may not always be appropriate.
Bioremediation has been used at a number of sites worldwide, including United States
and Europe, with varying degrees of success. Techniques are improving as greater
knowledge and experience are gained, and there is no doubt that bioremediation has
great potential for dealing with certain types of site contamination (Keeler, 2003). For
bioremediation to be effective, microorganisms must enzymatically attack the
pollutants and convert them to harmless products. Bioremediation can be effective
only where environmental conditions permit microbial growth and activity, its
application often involves the manipulation of environmental parameters to allow
microbial growth and degradation to proceed at a faster rate. Like other technologies,
bioremediation has its limitations. Some contaminants, such as chlorinated organic or
high aromatic hydrocarbons, are resistant to microbial

Psychology can be characterized by many different explanations and perspectives, two
of these perspectives being Psychoanalysis and Humanism. Psychoanalysis is the
method of treatment of a patient s mental disorder by investigating the areas of the
mind called the conscious and unconscious, and humanism is the study of the whole
person and his/her behaviour from different perspectives. This essay will highlight the
key approaches and figures, the factors of human behaviour as well as the strengths
and weaknesses associated with these theories.

Comparing the Ways in Which a Tabloid Newspaper and a Broadsheet
Newspaper Treat the Same News Story
The death of John Thaw was announced in national newspapers on the Friday 22nd
of February 2002. In my essay I am going to compare the story of John Thaws death
from two newspapers. These newspapers are the Mirror, which is a tabloid and the
Times which is a broadsheet.
Tabloid newspapers include the Sun, Star, and Mirror. Broadsheet newspapers include
the Gaurdian, Times, and the Daily Telegraph.
The differences between a broadsheet and a tabloid are the size, a tabloid newspaper
is half the size of a broadsheet. You need a lower reading age to read a tabloid
because there are shorter articles, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However the broadsheet also covers minority sports, like polo and archery.
In the times newspapers the article about John Thaws death is at the bottom of the
page. It s not very noticible, it s not the lead story, the lead story is about politics.
Also the article doesn t contain any pictures. It consists of six, two inch columns. In
the Mirror the article is the lead story. They dedicate almost half the front page to
John Thaw plus the whole of page seven, also there are seven photos of John Thaw
throughout his life.
The headline in the Times is small and doesn t stand out, it gives the main details
and it s factual, the headline is also present tense John Thaw dies , this is present
tense so that readers think they are getting the latest news. The headline in the
Mirror is huge, black and bold, it s also short and stark, and not a complete
sentence. The headline is emotive Morse star John dead , this stirs the emotions of
the readers. The headline contains all one syllable words and it is also in the present
tense.
In the opening paragraph of a newspaper article the journalist usually uses the four w
s which are who, what, where, and when. This is the key information of the article,
readers usually make the decision whether to read ahead if they want more detail,
based on the photographs, headlines, and the first

John F. Kennedy s Passionate Appeal to the American Spirit: We Choose to Go to
the Moon On September 12, 1962, John F. Kennedy gave a rhetorically sound
speech at Rice University in Houston, Texas with the intent to rally American
support for his space exploration proposition. Kennedy had proposed his plan to
congress a couple months before and this speech was his call to the American
people to stand behind him. While the speech is remembered for its famous line,
We choose to go to the moon, it was a carefully constructed piece of rhetoric.
Kennedy s immediate audience extends beyond the people that were in Rice
Stadium that day. His message was intended for the entire American populace as

Kennedy utilizes a form of the known new contract towards the beginning of his
speech to show the audience where they stand in reference to history while creating a
sense of urgency. In his approach to the known new contract, Kennedy conveys where
America has been and where America is going. Kennedy first conveys America s
scientific position by stating, Despite the striking fact that most of the scientists that
the world has ever known are alive and working today... the unanswered and the
unfinished still far outstrip our collective comprehension. While the first sentence
could have been worded better to express that there are more scientists active than
ever before, this section of the speech conveys that America has many unanswered
questions, but it also has the scientific manpower to answer these questions in order
to make space travel a reality. As Kennedy progresses, he condenses human history
into a 50 year timespan with an emphasis on scientific advancements in order to give
the audience perspective by establishing where humankind has been. As he goes from

46. Simon Lord Of The Flies Symbolism Essay
Symbolism is the use of an object that represents an idea or theme. In some novels,
a character is the strongest and most important symbol there can be. Within
William Golding s novel, Lord of the Flies, it is clear that the character Simon is
the most impactful symbol. In the novel, a group of boys from the age of 6 12
crash land on a island with no adults during the time period of WWII. the boys
struggle to try and rebuild society. Soon, the boys come up with an idea of the beast
which is one of the obstacles they must overcome. Later on in the novel, more boys
begin to pick up savagery ways and lose their civilized behaviour. Throughout the
narrative the conflict between savages, and the civilized continues to grow, and two

Simon is a character that symbolizes and presents these truths with his actions and
speech. At one point in the novel when we first meet Simon we learn he has very
bright eyes. When Ralph notices Simon for the very first time he thinks, and his
eyes so bright they had deceived Ralph into thinking him delightfully gay and
wicked (57). Simons bright eyes are symbolism for him having a different
perspective that others. He notices things most of the boys do not. It is a new
vision and truth. Also, it was believed that one s eyes are a look into someone s
soul. Simon symbolizes the truth because he can see from an unbiased view,
throughout the novel Simon is not part of the civilized or savagery he is a figure
above them all. Later, Simon symbolizes another truth when he realizes the real
beast is actually within them. When Simon is walking on the island he has a
thought and thinks, Simon thought of the beast, there rose before his inward sight
at a human at once heroic and sick (112). As Simon is thinking of the beast he
visualizes a human, a human once heroic and sick. The other boys think of the
beast as a snake or an ape. The symbolized truth is that no human is all good, or all
bad. Jack is the most savage of all the boys, but he still has good qualities, such as,
providing everyone with food, or getting work done. Ralph is known as the most
civilized on the island but he too has

I am Elektra, the daughter of Agamemnon and Clytemnestra.
Thousands of years has passed by since I am here. In the world of the dead, there

After all these years, I ve been here, wondering and reflecting on myself and my life.
I meet new people here sometimes and try to communicate to them, but this is a world
without sounds. My favorite thing to do would be those rare moments, the frogs

people has changed. And then, I reflect because of my life. I know that the story of

Orestes is not weak nor coward. He thinks that it would be just to kill Aegisthus

madness and fear. An eye for an eye, and there would be no end. No end of killing
till the end of the blood of Tantalus we bear. Should I forgive? should things be

long endure. He is saying that even though our country is only eighty seven years old,
we were fighting already, so maybe it was never meant to be. Furthermore, in Anna
Quindlen mentions issues in the beginning of the United States in her essay A Quilt
of a Country . She mentions that this country is held together by ... the notion that all
men are created equal, though everyone knows that most men consider themselves
better than someone. This compares to the agree to disagree concept, where on the
surface, humans appear to be fully capable of getting along without bickering or
fighting over the simplest things, but in reality, most humans consider their opinions
or themselves more important than others. Thus, it is clear that humans cannot live in
harmony as one human race because we don t trust each other and we don t consider
ourselves
50. Prejudice And Prejudice In Frankenstein
In the novel Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, the concept of prejudice is introduced
through the creature s character as a means to explore one of mankind s greatest
flaws. Prejudice by definition is a preconceived opinion that is not based on reason
or actual experience. These preconceived opinions placed on on the creature had a
detrimental effect on his quality of life. As a result of his outward appearance, the
creature s attempt at humanization resulted in the denial of basic rights. This notion
of prejudicethat is depicted through the creature s character can unfortunately be
connected to prejudice present in our world today, where many peopleare denied
adequate education, jobs, and safety based primarily on the aspect of connecting a
person s outward appearance to their suspected morals, beliefs, and possible future
behavior. With ensuing race wars in the United States and other areas of the world,
messages against prejudice and discriminationhave been given a large platform in
the media. But prejudice has been present in humans for as long as we can
remember, however it is still unknown why people are prone to prejudice in the first
place. New research, using monkeys, may suggest that our reluctance to prejudice
may be deeply rooted in our evolutionary past. This research was conducted by Yale
graduate Neha Mahajan and a team of psychologists, where they traveled to Cayo
Santiago, an uninhabited island southeast of Puerto Rico also known as Monkey
51. Continuity In Run Lola Run
Run Lola Run (1998) is a visually stunning German film that carries out three
different scenarios of the same plot that in which display the power of consequence
of any action at any moment in time. While the film itself is complex due to its
multiple retellings of the same story, director Tom Tykwer successfully creates a
logical coherence between each scene and scenario through his use of temporal
continuity editing.
According to the course textbook The Film Experience: An Introduction, continuity
editing is a system that uses cuts and transitions to establish verisimilitude , or a
sense of truth for viewers. Spatial continuity involves a scene being presented in a
way that presents logical spatial cues for the viewer. Temporal continuity is similar
but involves time rather than space. While there are various moments of spatial
continuity, Run Lola Run primarily relies on temporality. Tykwer is able to maintain
a coherent narrative despite the chaos that occurs within the film simply because the
entire film focuses on time as a catalyst for action.
[This] film is ideal for showing alternate and parallel time lines, as reviewed by
notable film critic Roger Ebert. Run Lola Run is a story about a woman named Lola
(Franka Potente) who has twenty minutes to collect money for her boyfriend Manni
(Moritz Bleibtreu), who may get into trouble after losing a large amount of his boss
money . Lola s twenty minute run to save Manni is shown in three scenarios, each

52. A Commodity Sign
A commodity sign invests symbolic meaning in products or services as a signifier
with an image as signified. In recent times, consumer culture is driven by our desire
for superfluous wants, causing the production and consumption of commodity signs
to become more specialised according to the notion of capital. Capitalism is
characterised by economies that are based on open markets and the ethos of
individuality over community. French Sociologist Pierre Bourdieu (Distinction
1984) introduced the schema of subcultural capital, which confers status on its
owner in the eyes of the relevant beholder (Thorton, 2006: 100). Therefore people
have the idea that they can buy subcultural capital, as it is seen as self revealing, in
order to impress people or become someone else (Frith, 1996: 5). Thus advertising
was developed as a strategy in generating demand in a contemporary consumer
culture. Mass marketing has split the unity of signifiers and signified into a language
of appearances and images of which we realise as either visible, physical connections
or indirect connotations to that which they represent.
This essay will be addressing ideologies of consumer fetishism and pseudo
individuality through examining the commodity signs found in the mass marketing
and advertising of designer cosmetics, particularly Chanel.
Commodity signs are assembled through advertisements, using already existent
meanings and turning them into modified meanings to suit their purpose. As
consumers we
