The Navajo Long Walk And The Navajo Nation
What molds a nation or group of people? As a member of the Navajo Nation, I ve wondered how
our history has impacted our nation. This research paper is a reflection of my curiosity.
Throughout this paper I will explain how The Navajo Long Walk and The 1868 Treaty of Bosque
Redondo contributed in shaping what the Navajo Nationtoday. During the mid 19th century
tensions with the Navajo, U.S. government, and white settlers were tense. The third wave of the
Navajo Wars would ultimately lead to the U.S. government s decision to create a campaign
against the Navajo and thus impose the Navajo Long Walk (Brooks 95). General Carleton, a
U.S. Army General, had Kit Carson, the well known Indian fighter, deliver his demands to the
Navajo, he said, Say to them: Go to Bosque Redondo or we will pursue and destroy you. We will
not make peace with you on any terms. You have deceived us too often and robbed and murdered
our people too long to trust you at large in your own country. (Acrey 39). Thus, in 1864, Navajo
peoplewere forcibly removed by the U.S. federal government from their traditional homelands to
eastern New Mexico. U.S. Army records indicate that at least 11,468 Navajos were forced to walk
three hundred to five hundred miles to the internment camp called Bosque Redondo (Spanish
translation is Round Forest) or Fort Sumner (Cheek 18). For four years, Navajo people were forced
to stay in Bosque Redondo where starvation, disease, and restriction of their culture was prevalent.

The Snows of Kilimanjaro Essay
It is my claim that Ernest Hemingway s piece, The Snows of Kilimanjaro is most effective at
showing how trivial life can be as it regards to what people think is needed to be successful in
life for three main reasons. The reasons are that people put too much time into achieving
unrealistic goals, people get too involved in obtaining their goals and do not appreciate what they
have, and people have the wrong idea about success and can not obtain true success with the
wrong vision of what it is. Some people put too much time into achieving their unrealistic goals,
and never realize them and then end up wasting most of their life and lively hood in search of their
personal success. Those same people also never stop to appreciate what they... Show more content

This work is appealing to this audience because they can identify with the main character Harry
and his feelings of regret and self doubt of his accomplishments and position in life. Only when
people get closer to death do they start to look back on their lives, and question whether they have
done all they wanted or not. Lots of men in their late 30 s to late 40 s also tend to have a mid life
crisis where they wonder what they have done with their life. Theses people can identify with
Harry and can be targeted as the specific audience.
The symbols used through out the story are what make The Snows of Kilimanjaro an appealing
piece of literature. The vultures which descend upon and fly above the camp and the hyena who
visits the camp signify naturally, in the context of the situation, the presence of death. The
gangrenous leg of the dying writer is another symbol, of course, of death. But in the larger context,
since Harry is a writer, they symbolize his moral corruption and artistic decay. Beyond this Harry s
wife being a rich woman symbolizes the very forces which have brought about the destruction of his
integrity. She is precisely identical with the gangrenous leg, and hence with the vultures and hyena.
All of these are

Publix Business Analysis Part 1 and 2
On April 19, 1930 in Winter Haven, Florida; George Jenkins founded a private employee owned
American market. Publix Super Markets, Inc. (Publix) is one of the largest regional supermarket
grocery chains in the United States. According to Fortune magazine in 2011 it is one of the top

That brought in a total of 342.1 million dollars that quarter alone. For the fiscal year ending
December 25, 2010, Publix earned a whopping 1.3 billion dollars. That was 15.2% better than
the year before. Total annual sales for the year came in at 25.1 billion dollars for an increase of

Publix boosted profits came from reducing costs by becoming more efficient, brand recognition,
and focusing on customer service. That probably helped them gain the competitive edge over Wal
Mart and Winn Dixie. Publix made sure to focus on the customer experience, over cleanliness of
the store, and focusing on product quality. Publix made sure to focus on areas where Wal Mart and
Winn Dixie would be weak. Wal Mart has now introduced around 120 Neighborhood Markets

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Cad
Unconventional Computer Aided Design
Tailoring the Future of Fashion Industry
1. Introduction
1.1 Computer Aided Design (CAD)
Computer aided design (CAD), also known as computer aided design and drafting (CADD),
generally means the use of computer technology for the purpose of design and design
documentation. CAD can be used to design curves, figures or solids in two dimensional (2D) or
three dimensional (3D) spaces and it also provides graphics showing the overall appearances of
products. Besides, CAD software is able to assist designers in creation, analysis, modification and
optimization of design, and it also offers designers input tools so that they can easily streamline
whole design process, including idea generation, sketching and manufacturing processes.
The applications of CAD software are almost endless: designing machines, creating the structure of
buildings, or creating cars and airplanes. CAD software are also widely used in advertising,
technical manuals and even computer animation for the special effects in movies. CAD has brought
a lot of benefits, such as a shortened product ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In CAD design, designers will be never afraid to draw on the paper since they can erase by
simply clicking mouse and draw again. Besides, designers can view their designs of clothing on
the virtual models in various colors and shapes, which save time by offering fewer adjustments of
samples and prototypes later. There are many advantages of CAD in sketching, like easier
modification, better visualization, however, the major advantage is that CAD software provides
many handy tools that are unable to be used in traditional manual drawing method. CAD software
reduces the demand for manual sketches and is continuing to replace old manual skills by updating
itself. Besides, once being more skilled using CAD software, a designer will be able to find out
more advantages of CAD instead of manual sketching (Some

Julius Caesar Comradery
The strength of a comradery is put to the test in the tragic play, Julius Caesar by William
Shakespeare. Brutus, an honorable Roman, and Cassius, a man with questionable motives, come
together against the Roman army after assassinating Julius Caesar. In the early parts of the play,
these two men seem to work well together, however as the story progresses, the conspirators reveal
their true colors which leads to their defeat. Although Brutus and Cassius lost the war and their
lives in the original story, by having the two stick together and focus on what is important, they
would pose an unstoppable force to the Romans thus saving both their lives. The first instance of
Brutus and Cassius drift apart is in act four, scene two. The two revolutionaries... Show more

This ghost is actually the manifestation of Brutus doubt and guilt, which is why Caesar says,
thou shalt see me at Philippi, signifying that Brutus is not completely certain that his choice to
advance to Philippi is the best decision to make (4.3.327). In the author s plays, whenever a
character sees a ghost, it foreshadows their death later in the story. Brutus becomes fearful of
this, and selfishly puts his life above everyone else s. Without thinking, Brutus orders his
servants to Bid [Cassius] set on his powers betimes before [us]..., which divided and weakened
their army as a whole (4.3.353). Sending Cassius off without the help of Brutus army is a futile
strategy, and he is aware of that. Brutus knows the strength of the Roman army but still sends
Cassius group after them to preserve his own life. This shows that after their previous argument,
Brutus does not really care about Cassius anymore despite his farewell to him in act five. The war
tactic that Brutus uses ensures the death of the army and himself as well, however this could all be
avoided if the men set aside their differences for the sake of the

Achilles the Illiad
Iliad 21.70 135 (Lykaon supplicates Achilles, Achilles kills him)
Consider Achilles response to supplication in this passage. How does this compare to his attitude in
the extracts from the Iliad in your lecture/tutorial readings?
The cruel rejection by Achilles to the supplication of Lykaon in Book 21 represents a fundamental
transformation in the attitude of Achilles. Achilles has become full of anger and self loathing
following the death of Patroclus. Achilles answers Lykaon s supplication by stating, I reject this
childish plea for mercy, and I will accept no ransom. Until Patroclus died, I often spared suppliants,
and sold them abroad; but now all Trojans I catch will die, especially all sons of King Priam!
(Graves 1960 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Achilles has been tipped over the edge by the blame he feels for failing his responsibilities and
completely loses his grip on reality. Achilles no longer adheres to the moral and social standards
that were previously so important to him in his quest for personal glory. The old values Achilles
held are no longer relevant and he has lost all sense of right versus wrong. Achilles atrocious acts
are symbolic of the war raging inside his mind. In his vengeful slaying of the Trojans he is
metaphorically trying to kill himself over and over again. At this point Achilles is completely
obsessed on obtaining revenge by killing Hector and absolutely nothing will stop him achieving this
aim. Achilles is now in a psychological traumatic state of mind.
Achilles wrath reaches its pinnacle when he kills Hector, as he declares, at last I am avenged!
(Graves 1960 22:317). It would now be reasonable to expect that from this moment on Achilles
anger would begin to subside with the relief of his revenge. We would rightfully expect to begin
to see the return of the old Achilles as previously told, but there is no gall in Achilleus heart, he is
forgiving (Lattimore 2011 2:240) however this is most certainly not the case. Instead Achilles anger
is further and even more disturbingly demonstrated by his mutilation of Hectors body. Achilles has
not found peace in his revenge whatsoever instead he becomes more deranged than ever. The death

Tommy Douglass Ideology
Tommy Douglas was a man of the people. His struggles during his working class life formed his
liberal ideology, so that no one else would have to. He was a man of the people, he lived without
healthcare which nearly cost him his leg , he witnessed protesters being shot, the list of horrible
things he s seen and experienced is rather expansive. However, Douglas was a man who wanted
change, for the benefit of regular people such as himself. His life experience being the normal
man of the times, and witnessing what happened to those who took action, allowed him to see the
shortcomings of the laws that were meant to serve the individuals of the country. The ideals he had

beautiful landscape of the land. Fallingwater sits low in the valley of over the stream, but looks

Drones In The United States
The use of drones has brought an uproarious debate among both the people of the United States
and the people of the world regarding whether or not drones should be sold and used by the
public. Drones were first created for military use to scout and attack terrorists who plan to bring
havoc to the United States of America. Ever since the terrorist attack on September 11, 2001,
funding for the use of drones sky rocketed because people came to the realization that there was a
need to formulate different methods of security and defense. Besides the use of security and
defense, people have been developing new uses for drones. The Federal Aviation Administration

Trends in the climate suggest that the United States is receiving less and less water each year.
Other states such as California are suffering under drought conditions and need new methods to
conserve water. With the use of drones, farmers can view their fields from up above to
determine whether crops need water. These flying devices can help contribute to water
conservation in the west and possibly bring multiple states out of long periods of drought.
Additionally, drones can be used to scout fields for insect infestation and crop diseases. Crop
farmers can evaluate the economic risk from the potential effects from infestation. The use of
drones can make it easier for crop farmers to diagnose the issue so that they can prevent too much
damage so that they can maintain a profit. Coordinates can be marked where this issue is evolving
from and pesticides, herbicides, and different methods of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) can be
applied to the area. Drones can contribute to crop farming and scouting by reducing valuable

Persuasive Essay On Why Volunteers Are Important In Youth...
Volunteers are one of the most important things in youth sports. Because without volunteers there
can t be any games played or practices, and the kids won t get any better. Youth sports are
important to the kids because it helps kids be able to work as a team better and work together with
other kids, it helps them get better at the sportthey re playing, and it teaches them discipline and
dedication. And, the better the kids get from playing in youthsport organizations, the higher chance
they will have to maybe play in High School, College, and maybe even the pros. Making youth
sports available early on can set people up to possibly play that sport for the rest of their life.
Volunteers do a lot just so the kids can have a good time and learn more skills about a sport.
Most pf the people that are involved with a sports organization do it for free and for the kids, if
there wasn t volunteers, there s no sports. For example, they organize schedules for the games
/practices, they run the scoreboard/score book, they run the snack bar, make food to sell at the
snack bar, find places for the kids to practice and play in, they order uniforms, and they coordinate
fundraising. They make youth sports possible for the kids to get better and learn the skills of the

Deaf Perceptions Of The Deaf
Deaf Perceptions of Animacy
Deaf culture has long been misunderstood and misrepresented within America, in part due to the
significant language barrier between the American Deaf and their hearing counterparts. Though it
is often thought to be nothing more than an elevated form of charades, American Sign Language
(ASL) is a language like any other not only with its own grammatical syntax, phonology, and
morphology, but also in its compliance to the Sapir Whorf hypothesis. Created by Edward Sapir
and Benjamin Lee Whorf, the hypothesis exists in two degrees: weak and strong. The former
claims that language shapes our thoughts, and thus our culture, while the latter version claims that
language not only shapes our thoughts and our culture, it creates them. Though there is debate
surrounding the degree to which the hypothesis extends, it is undoubtable that it is applicable to
Deaf culture and its use of ASL as a first language in prelingually Deaf individuals. Using the Sapir
Whorf hypothesis as its theoretical framework, this research proposes to investigate how the
absence of copular verbs within ASL shapes Deaf perception of animacy and how such perceptions
manifest within Deaf culture.
Language was long thought to be a passageway passagewayfor thought; a go between that allowed
one to translate their pre existing ideas into a communicable form via sounds, writing, and gesture
(Cultural Encounters). However, this understanding shifted upon the introduction of the Sapir Whorf

academics, Houle was far behind because the highest level of math he had taken was Algebra 1.
The goal was to get people to work (Houle) Vocational educationwas not intended to prepare
students for college. More than 117 years ago, an assortment of groups of people started
advocating for the use of new vocational education programs in schools. A majority of supporters
for vocational education consisted of businessmen and labor unions, who saw it as an answer to
problems of skilled labor shortages and a way to help heal unemployment in a swiftly
industrializing society. There are also two sides to the story. While employers were anticipating the
weakening of labor unions, the workers saw it as opportunity for not only individual advancement,
but also a means of dignifying labor. Many people regarded vocational training as an opportunity to
teach and learn the value of work because they believed the value was being washed out of modern
society. Actually, educators and teachers were excited about vocational education because they
could practice new teaching methods that emphasized children s interests

Lab Report On Red Cabbage Indicator
Red Cabbage Indicator Experiment
Aim: The aim of our investigation was to identify and understand how different chemicals (Acids,
alkalis and neutral) react and experience a change in colour due of this.
Introduction:
The red cabbage indicator shows how a usual household product such as red cabbage can make a
suitable indicator and be able find out if a chemical is either and acid, alkali or neutral. Acids are a
chemical that reacts with an alkali neutralising it producing water and a salt. Acids are also
commonly found to be sour tasting. Acids react with metals, releasing hydrogen gas and leaving
behind a salt they also can conduct electricity. Acids also readily give off hydrogen ions and have
a pH level lower than 7. Some more common laboratory acids are Hydrochloric, Sulphuric and
Nitric Acids. Sulphuric acids and water are used in car batteries as the electrolyte.
Bases or alkali are a chemical that will react with acids and usually have a slimy or soapy feeling on
contact with skin. Bases readily accept hydrogen ions and has a pH level that is higher the 7.
Bases have a bitter taste and neutralise d by acids, producing water and a salt. Some common
laboratory bases are Sodium Hydroxide, Potassium Hydroxide and Calcium Hydroxide. Stronger
bases are commonly used today in many cleaning products.
Indicators help us find wether if a chemical is an acid or base. The scale that is used to find wether a
chemical is an acid or a base is the pH scale. The pH scale gives

Hilton Head Island
The beach in Hilton Head Island in South Carolina is certainly my favorite place to go. It is the
greatest place to be. Maybe it is the sense of relief with you see the alluring island or maybe it is
when you roll down your window smelling the salty ocean water with the warm breeze hitting
your face, making your hair fly all over the place. Relaxing, sunbathing, and swimming are all
reasons why Hilton Head Island is my favorite place.
As I lay in the red, thin material, swaying hammock next to the roaring ocean water, I begin to
relax. I listen to huge waves hit against the rocky wall that connects the grassy ground to the light
blue ocean water. The longer I lay there the wind begins to pick up causing the hammock to sway
more and more almost touching the tall, wide trees that are holding it up. The sounds of the
rushing waves and the warm misty breeze causes my eyes to get very heavy almost as if I have a
weight on my eyelids weighing them down. I usually end up falling asleep until my family wakes
me up by forcefully shaking me. After I get up we drive down to the pier, so they can play in the

Sunbathing is another reason Hilton Head Island is my favorite place to be. When I sunbathe I

How To Punish Your Inborn Drive
Bishop T.D. Jakes, last Tuesday I finished your inspiring novel Instinct; The power to Unleash
Your Inborn Drive , and I have to say it s one of the most fascinating books I ve ever laid hands
on. This novel clearly defines you and your purpose as an educator and a faith leader in our
society. The way you deliver your messages are so powerful; I often felt as if I was sitting front
row, on a Sunday morning, listening to you preach just the words I needed to hear. You provided
me with advice that reshaped my thinking and redirected me to a path to live a more fulfilling
life from now on. I do believe your novel makes readers look in the mirror and find the innate

Terra Preta Soils
The higher fertility of Terra preta soils originally attracted the attention of geographers, soil
scientists and archaeologists, where in general tropical soils can be low in fertility (Glaser et al.
2003). The addition of char seems to be very effective and productive in humid tropical areas,
where soils tend to be highly weathered and infertile. The major challenge of agriculture within
these regions is the high rates of decomposition of soilorganic matter (Zech et al. 1990). This is a
consequence of temperatures and rates of precipitation. In undisturbed Venezuelan soil, the
mean residence time of organic matter has been calculated at 4 years (Tiessen, Cuevas and
Chacon 1994). Biochar is significantly more stable and thus the mean residence time of organic
matter is far greater. Singh and Cowie (2014), study over a 5 year period showed biochar can have
a mean residence time of approximately 100 1800 years; variance largely depends on conditions
of pyrolysis and composition of feedstock. The Terra pretasoils are characterised by their high levels
of soil organic matter, as they can contain up to 150 g/ kg of C in comparison to 30 g/kg of the
surrounding
5
Amazonian ferrisols. They also contain enhanced levels of nutrients such as nitrogen, phosphorous,
calcium and potassium centuries after the char was laid down in the soil (Lima et al. 2002; Smith,
1980).

Jim Jones And Charles Manson Persuasion
Cults
Two of America s most famous cult leaders are Jim Jones and Charles Manson, they are powerful
leaders that drove their followers to commit insanely violent, and crazy acts. Today, many people
wonder what gave those men such power to influence their followers to commit crimes.
Jim Jones, for example, was a visionary and he used religion to influence his followers to join his
community . Jones persuasion was highly successful among the homeless, dispossessed, lonely,
and lower middle class. These individuals were drawn in large numbers to the Peoples Temple.
Using reams of personal documents and types of propaganda to recruit more people to
Jonestown. Jonestown gave them fellowship, a dream of social justice, social services clinics
for free health care, drug rehabs, legal aid, and a sense of purpose. Jones followers gave him all
their worldly possessions, money, and all the power he needed even though he was just as
average as his followers. Jones didn t start out as this powerful leader he came to be , he was
born into a bitterly unhappy home in Crete, Indiana. Jones himself was also a drug addict, a
sexual predator among both sexes, and somehow he accomplished to fake to a large amount of
people that he was against everything that he was still doing in secret (George Russell). Jim
eventually found his place as a member of a small Christian church in his home town. Jones said
he joined the religion because he never felt accepted, and he was drawn to fellow outcasts. He
soon acquired a gift for charismatic preaching and took it to neighborhoods that were populated
primarily by African American in the 1950s. It was in these neighborhoods where he preached
racial inclusion and gathered a mixed race congregation. This did not sit well with many people
in this era before the civil rights movement, and it added to his progressive reputation. He became
head of the Indianapolis Human Rights Commission, which is a large reason he would recruit
different ethnicities to join his temple. Jones also in order to get more members used informers in
his audiences to get information out of the unsuspecting faithful that he could reveal as evidence of
clairvoyant powers, and he hired fake invalids who would rise from

Design Of A Sustainable Design
What we know today as sustainable architectural design began in the early 20th century; born and
evolved from principles and theories of architects in addition to physical devices all which
precursor those in today sustainable architecture. These premature design elements, and theories are
visible in works such as Le Corbusiers early 20th century, Villa Savoye; and Alvar
Aalto s mid 20th century, Villa Mairea. Reviewing and rereading these building s physical designs
and their architects design thinking we begin to unfold how contemporary sustainable design today
came to be. Examining William McDonough s sustainable office complex as a finale to these
developments it is visible where the endeavours of the past century have taken ... Show more

Absolute Monarchy In The French Revolution
At its beginnings, monarchy was a political system in which the King was the major authority in his
country. Its power and respect emanated from the belief that he had been chosen by a God or holy
source. Generally, monarchies has always been associated to a religion (Catholicism, in the case of
Spain). It wasn t until the French Revolution, at the end of XVIIIth century, when some countries
started change the way they were governed. Before this Revolution, the only form they had was the
absolute monarchy, in which the king gathered the three state powers: executive, legislative and
judicial. The inhabitants of the nation were submitted to the king s power. Before the French

speech was one of the most claimed), justice, equality (regarding to government entities: anybody
was better than other). The Republic also started designing its inhabitants as citizens, a name full of
meaning because it involved all the new rights these people had.
The second form of government created was the Parliamentary Monarchy, in which the king had
some powers and the legislative was hold by the Parliament. This form was set in the UK, but
before the official stabilization there were some precedents: around the XVIIth century, the king
had a group of people that recommended him what to do concerning politics and legal things. This
small group ended up forming the Parliament.
The third and last variant was the keeping of the Absolute Monarchy. It were popular in countries
like Spain, Italy or Russia. This countries had some periods of alternation between republic and
monarchy, until the end of the XIXth century/beginning of the XXth, when finally the Absolute
Monarchy finished, and all of them ended under a dictatorial system. After the dictatorships, Russia

Employer branding: what we should look for in a job??????

Serfdom In Imperial Russia
Imperial Russia from its conception, has not been an economic or agricultural power house. Often
enough the majority of Imperial Russia s population lived well below the poverty line and
struggled to get by while the rich lined their pockets. This economic inequality became possible
through serfdom. The emancipation of serfs in Imperial Russiahas been greatly scrutinized for its
ineffectiveness in promptly bringing about this change. However, ultimately the biggest question
is how important were serfs to the economic ability of Russia and whether or not their
emancipation was a positive economic force or negative. If you look at the overall effects

From the very beginning of recorded history to up until near modern times, there has been a
systematic exploitation of human labor. This exploitation primarily occurred in two ways:
serfdom and slavery. Most people are familiar with slavery as it was the more common practice
especially in North America post colonization. However, the more common practice throughout
Europa and Asia was serfdom. A slave is somebody who s life has essentially been purchased,
their body was given a numerical value and somebody bought it. Slaves are physical property of
their owner much like a book or a house. A serf on the other hand is similar in functionality but
different in its basic definition. A serf is someone who is tied to the land. What that means is that
the serf has to follow every command of whoever owns the land that the serf is tied to. In return
the serf also obtains a small piece of land barely enough to sustain him/her. This is the most basic
foundation of feudalism. Serfs are the lowest and most populous class that is exploited for their

I m going to go on an adventure.
It was one of those cool spring mornings with the birds singing in the trees and the grass wet with

So Mo packed a day bag and set out. On the way she ran into her brother Finley.
Where are you going? he asked.
On an adventure. She replied.
To the forest?
No.

No.

I don t know! Mo said impatiently because she was ready to explore the world. I was planning on

Finley laughed at that. It s just rubbish at the end. But may I come with you?
Sure.
So Mo and Finley walked down the long garden path beautiful spring flowers stretching tall and
swaying on each side of them, the heads of vegetables and the beginnings of herbs, it was a
wonderful smell.
Suddenly, they heard an angry, Squeee!!!

The bushes in the distance started trembling. The ground started trembling too. Then they saw a
dark round shadow and heard snorts, very loud snorts. They really wanted to run but they were
too frightened and now they were at the edge of the garden path. It was an open field with a pile

Statement Of Sop In Physics
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
The important thing is to not stop questioning, for curiosity maketh man!
The World of science and technology has held an allure for me right since my school days. The
questions born from my curiosity as a child had simple explanations in the edifice of science.
Physics fascinated me predominantly, to be more specific a part of Physics: Electricity.
Understanding the concepts of Electricity refined my thought process and imbibed a culture of
inquisitiveness, questioning, and interaction. My inclination towards this field spurred me to
choose Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology as my majors in high school. Unequivocally,
my career continued to progress in this direction and I chose Electrical and Electronics Engineering
for my B.E.
My undergraduate study in the KLS Gogte Institute of Technology involved much analytical and
theoretical learning experience. It was here that the opportunity to imbibe the concepts and
demonstrate them presented itself to me. The undergraduate courses in the field made me

Another character development showed an example in the move, Spirited Away when Master
Haku, a boy in the spirit world who assisted Chihiro seemed as though he couldn t be trusted;
however, the scene flipped where Haku was shown as a loving caring person. Additionally, in
Ponyo an example was also shown of Sosuke, a little boy helping Ponyo when she was trapped in
a jar; at first, the way the director depicted that scene, it seemed as if the boy was going to hurt
Ponyo which turned out not to be the case, that he too, like Haku was a loving caring human being.

Miyazaki shows his audience that both worlds share the same parallel circles; names were
powerful in the spirit and human worlds names identify identity in both worlds. It was very
important for Sen aka Chihiro, in Spirited Awayto remember her name because if she did not,
then she wouldn t be able to return to her natural world. In Ponyo it was also important for her to
have a name. Another example of the power of words was when Yubaba let Chihiro, in Spirited

couldn t remember his name but he sensed that Yubaba had something to do with it, and so, he
made sure that Chihiro didn t forget her name because she would be trapped just as he was. Sosuke
also assigned Ponyo a name; not that giving Ponyo a name in the human world would bring

Civil Service Benefits
Requiring all high school students to spend one year in service after high school is an amazing
idea. A civil service is a great way to teach young adults responsibility and rigor. Civil service
teaches students great responsibilities like tending to wounds and learning how to care for
yourself, as well as others. young adults often have jobs other than just to protect our country in
the civil service, they often clean, serve food, and much more. These jobs are put in place to
teach these new soldiers rigor in their daily tasks that can be put in place for future jobs, therefore
congress should definitely pass this law. In addition to giving some students an idea of what they
would like to do for the rest of their lives, civil service opens... Show more content on

Often learning trial and error, most young adults haven t learned how to take care of themselves.
Not to mention the fact that being in the civil service is highly dangerous. Some families would
be very upset if their child died in the service because they were forced to go there. The
population would significantly decrease if this law was issued because millions of heroes die
every year being in the civil service, and as of now only males are on a list to go. Some student
just aren t in good enough physical shape to join the civil service and may require more effort/time
to be in peak physical shape instructors would like. This would waste valuable time in training than
just letting those students go off to college. Because some students would like to be in fields
requiring many years of school and don t have time to serve in the civil service, only certain young
adults should be required to the civil service for a year. So all together, I think Congress should
pass this law, but put stricter limitations on who has to go into the civil service for a year because
students haven t learned valuable life skills and some have important careers to attend

Persuasive Essay On Trophies
How special are trophies? If you hand out trophies to everyone for no reason the kids feel like
that they shouldn t try to get better, and if you give out a trophy to a kid that deserves it will
earn hard work equals success. That s why I think that giving trophies to kids that earn it deserve
it not the other way around.A couple years ago I was on a team for my second year after every
game we played if we won one kid that the coach think played their best would get the ball to
keep. When ever I didn t get the ball I would practice more and more so I could get the ball at the
very last game I was always helping and doing my best and we won and I got the ball. I believe
that kids should always have a motivation to doing their best just like my story without that

Losing, no one wants to lose no matter what they are doing. If a kid loses then they want to get
better and then get the prize but if a kid gets a trophy for no reason then they think that they don t

forward to their trophy as much as playing the game. (Jean Twenge) if kids think that the trophy has
the same amount of importance as the game they shouldn t play at all.
When I was little I always thought that I was better at things than everyone but when I grew up I
found out that you can win but you have to lose to be the best that you can. Carol Dweck a
psychology professor once said, Kids respond positively to praise: they enjoy hearing that they re
talented, smart, and so on. But after such praise of their innate abilities, they collapse at the first

Persuasive Paper On Coaching
Introduction Coaching is a very interesting and fun job to be able to do. There are many things
that come with being a coach, good and bad. Getting used to being around more people and
having to teach them plays will be something new to me. Reasoning behind choosing this career
path is because I used to play so I understand the game and have a strong passion for it. My career
goal is to try and become one of the best coaches there is in the NFL and make others wanna play
or coach. Career related information Nfl coaching does not require a lot of school. The Bureau
of Labor Statistics recorded that Coaches and scouts typically need a bachelor s degree (
Coaches and Scouts ). They must also have extensive knowledge of the sport. Coaches typically
gain this knowledge through their own experiences playing the sport at some level. High
schools typically hire teachers or administrators at the school for most coaching jobs. Coaches
do not have regular schedules like the normal person. Former NFL and college coaches have
said Coaches and scouts often work irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Professional or college coaches usually work more than 40 hours a week for several months
during the sport s season ( Coaches and Scouts ).Most of the time coaches will miss out on a lot
of things because of their job. The average pay for coaching is not all that but it varies for each
level of coaching. Colleges, universities, and professional schools; state,

Architecture of Olympiapark in Berlin
Part 1: Description of This Building Olympiapark is a Postmodern collection of buildings located
in Munich, Germany and was constructed for the 1972 Summer Olympics. Olympiapark consists
of 4 main areas: Olympic area, village, media city, and park. The main focus of my paper is on
Olympic Stadium which is pictured above. The design for Olympiapark was chosen through a
national competition that was won by the German architect GГјnter Behnisch s design company
Behnisch und Partner. The 1 square mile area where Olympiapark was built at that time was known
as Oberwiesenfeld ( upper meadow field ). Oberwiesenfeld before that was a dumping area for
World War II debris and a landing strip. The area was designed to be green and to make use of

Only 30 years before Olympiapark was built Germany hosted the Olympics under Nazi control and
the buildings were strong and almost harsh portraying the Nazi people as a superior and
dominating group of people. His idea was that the Park was to be a total contrast to the previous
bombastic architecture of the 1936 Nazi Olympics, with modern buildings helping to create an
atmosphere of egalitarianism and freedom (Childs 2010). I agree with both commentaries on the
Olympiapark. These buildings were not only beautiful in design but had a purpose and came to
bring the German people up from a devastating war and reputation. I myself have family in
Germany and this is one piece of architecture that is easily recognized by most Germans. It not only
revolutionized architecture in Germany but revitalized the people of Germany.
Part 4: Why This Building Appeals to Me I chose this building for multiple reasons, the most
important being I really appreciate GГјnter Behnisch s work. His buildings, my favorite being the
Bundehaus in Bonn, are simple but very symbolic. To him, a building is more than just material
and a blue print. Olympiapark was a futuristic building that was built on the grounds where only
years before, lay the infrastructure that was destroyed during World War II. Olympiapark was built
to represent the German people as free thinking and liberated from the axial and rigid structure of

Symbolism In The Secret Lion By Alberto Alvaro Rios
Lots of things change when you age. That treehouse that your dad built for you when you were
little is not just a treehouse anymore, instead, it serves as a reminder of how gentle and careful
he was. Similar to the treehouse, the symbols used in the short story, The Secret Lion by Alberto
Alvaro Rios, show the readers how the boys perspectives on things change as they get older.
When they were young, the narrator and his friend Sergio liked to play at the arroyo to pass
time. One day, they found a grinding ball which they suspect must have been used for mining.
The cannonball was something perfect in an imperfect world, innocence in an adult world, and it
was something they wanted to keep forever, just like how kids will always want to be kids. They
boys knew that they were going to have to hide the metal ball or else it was going to get taken
away, which means that they are growing and becoming more aware of how unfair the world is....

Going to the arroyo was a sign of rebellion, something they mastered as they grew older. The
construction waste that would pollute the waters in the arroyo hit the boys with the reality that the
arroyo was not as perfect as they thought when they were kids. Everything in their childhood loses
a bit of its magic as they grow older, just like how the waters became tainted with

Minority Candidates Advantages And Disadvantages
To evaluate the question as to whether minority candidates are disadvantaged in campaign funding
support, a dataset constructed of the amount of monetary support for a candidate, candidate
characteristics, and district characteristics, is needed. The difficulty in the data collection effort is
the small number of minority candidates running in any given year in a general election cycle
(Hogan and Thompson 1998). Extending the timeframe across several years would increase the
number of minority candidates in the dataset, yet, one aspect to consider when evaluating the data
is the number of times the same candidate is in the data set, yet accounting for incumbency and
challenger status can help to indicate if certain candidates are driving the funding support levels. At
the federal level, many elected officials come from safe districts where incumbents have the
advantage and are reelected at a high rate.
The data set is also focusing on congressional elections. Focusing on the federal level helps to fit
the research into the larger literature related to minority campaigns and financial support (Theilman
and Wilhite 1989, 1991; Wilhite 1988, Whilhite and Theilman 1989). Focusing on... Show more

Relationships, Group Cohesion, Team Norms, And Strength
Introduction:
Throughout organizational behaviors we learned a lot about developing relationships, group
cohesion, and team norms / values. On October 6 and November 17, we worked together in our
teams to complete different activates with different instructions. For our first challenge we had to
build a tower using objects that we put into a trash bag. We were judged on Beauty, Height, and
strength. We had a certain time frame to build our tours. On November 17 we were paired up with
a different team and instructed to build a bridge. Each team had to start from their own sides and
meet in the middle. The challenge was that only two team members from each side could talk to
each other and communicate about our ideas for constructing the bridge. ... Show more content on

My name was picked out of a cup so I was the only person who could talk to the other leader in
group 3 who was Anh. Anh and I have worked with each other in the past so we already had a
past relationship. What was really unique was that the leader of the team was randomly picked
randomly so I believe this made the task a little more challenging for each group.
I really liked this exercise because we had put our trust into the other group that we would build
the best bridge and try and win. The first category of trust (Appendix C) is how much confidence
you have you have in other s competence and abilities (Cohen et al, pg. 223) I had a past
relationship with Anh so it was easy for me to trust her because I know she is a very hard
worker and she always got her work don based on the past relationship. I also worked with some
of the members in her group so I felt confident that my team and I could trust them to get things
done. The others team judgement was very sounds (Cohen et al, pg. 233) . They won the
previous contest so it was easy for us to trust that there judgement was good. My team trusted
Anh and her team because we all had a common goal of winning the bridge challenge. We were
working together and collaborating well together. Anh and her team were in no way trying to
harm our welfare (Cohen et al, pg. 233). Both teams collaborated and feel through with what we

Developing Technology Systems From Cyber Criminals
In our growing global world companies rely heavily on their IT infrastructure to accomplish critical
business functions. To effectively compete in a fast paced, multifaceted, global economy,
organizations are employing new technologies at an unprecedented rate. In most cases, either
ignoring or not fully understanding the increased exposure to their business. The difficulty s facing
organizations today in this global market is how they will protect new technology systems from
cyber criminals.
The challenges that organizations face today lays in security both physical and logical. Having good

should be to have a contingency plan in place throughout its business units to help enterprise

In addition to continuity planning organizations must maintain a current security policy that
enforces employee training. Human threats either intentionally or unintentional can have a
significant effect on an organization. Physical security is only half the battle organizations must
also have those logical controls in place. Threats come from outside influences that want to
penetrate the business the reasons range from stealing data to hacktivism. As corporations continue
to face new risks they also have to contend with the difficult task of protecting both internal and
external customers against identity theft.
Logical controls are used to safeguard against unauthorized access to computing resources. Logical
controls are a combination of hardware and software used to detect and prevent intruders on the
corporate network. There are also detection systems that focus on suspicious activity on the host

behavior, it can flag anomalies in traffic traversing the network. Target Corporationhad this type of

TCP/IP
Since the Internet has been introduced to the world. There have been an increasing number of
people using the Internet for the very first time. They are using device(s) like their phone,
computers, and television to connect to the Internet. An integral of this growth is the use of
Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP). The Transport Control Protocol and
Internet Protocol are two important communication protocols used in the network today. In this
paper, I will discuss the functionality and the evolution of TCPIP protocol.
Prior to the 1960s, computer communication consisted of basic binary data and simple text, carried

universities and the corporate research community to design open, standard protocols and build
multi vendor networks. This was the first packet switching network. The experiment was
successful creating these four nodes at three different sites connecting together at 56 kbit/s circuits
using Network Control Protocol and the trial network evolved to a useful operational network,
which was called, the ARPA Internet . The first node of the ARPANET was installed at the
University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA). Then another node was at Stanford Research
Institute (SRI), the University of California at Santa Barbara (UCSB), and the University of Utah.
In 1973, Vinton G. Cerf and Robert E. Kahn conducted a research on a reliable way data
communication across packet radio networks. From what Cerf and Kahn learned, they created the
next generation TCP, which is the standard protocol used on the Internet today. Since the change,
the set of communications protocols is used for the Internet and other networks. IP evolved in the
1960s and 1970s, namely the Internet and LANS, which emerged in the late 1980s and advent of
the World Wide Web in the early 1990s. The two network TCP/IP communication test was
performed in 1975 with Stanford and University College London. Later that year, there was test
conducted between sites in the US, UK, and Norway. There were multiple research centers
conducting TCP/IP prototypes between 1978 1983. The

Reading Question #2: Epitaphs 1. What is the function of a funerary memorial (i.e. a tombstone) in
societies generally? How can historians use them as evidence? What elements of the population
will have a tombstone or other funerary memorial? The function of a funerary memorial is
generally to honor the person who has passed. For the ones that the deceased has left behind, it can
serve as a symbol of remembrance. Tombstones hold evidence about who the person was, what was
important to them as well as what was important about them. Also, they typically have information
like dates of birth and death as well as their relatives. Based off of the text, most of the women that

Eugenics Movement During The Early 1900 s
The eugenics movement was a very influential movement in America that was very prevalent
during the early 1900 s. The premise of the eugenics movement was that society could be
scientifically improved by classifying ranking members of society and trying to prevent those who
were ranked low from reproducing. The eugenicsmovement was born out of the desire for the
upper and middle classes of society to try and prove, scientifically, that they were superior to
those who were in the lower classes. The people who typically made up the lower classes were
usually immigrants and those who were of a different race. Eugenics was essentially the method
that was used to try and exert control over the lower classes while validating the idea that those in
the upper and middle classes were superior. The concept of trying to use... Show more content on

However, there were definitely a lot of moments where the eugenics movement seemed to be more
concerned with proving past prejudices rather than actually looking for ways to improve future
generations. All of the Craniometry tests and IQ tests seemed to be more concerned with proving
what America already believed: that it was the superior group of people. The idea that these
classifications of people could help produce a better society is the main part of the eugenics
movement that seemed to be the most forward looking. The Fitter Families contests Selden
discusses are a good example of the eugenics movement attempting to be more focused on the future
(Selden 2005, 221). Even with this focus on the future, it still seemed as though the eugenics
movement was concerned with fixing the mistakes of the past. While the eugenics movement may
have been started under the premise of improving the future, a lot of it seemed to be heavily

  • 2. The Navajo Long Walk And The Navajo Nation What molds a nation or group of people? As a member of the Navajo Nation, I ve wondered how our history has impacted our nation. This research paper is a reflection of my curiosity. Throughout this paper I will explain how The Navajo Long Walk and The 1868 Treaty of Bosque Redondo contributed in shaping what the Navajo Nationtoday. During the mid 19th century tensions with the Navajo, U.S. government, and white settlers were tense. The third wave of the Navajo Wars would ultimately lead to the U.S. government s decision to create a campaign against the Navajo and thus impose the Navajo Long Walk (Brooks 95). General Carleton, a U.S. Army General, had Kit Carson, the well known Indian fighter, deliver his demands to the Navajo, he said, Say to them: Go to Bosque Redondo or we will pursue and destroy you. We will not make peace with you on any terms. You have deceived us too often and robbed and murdered our people too long to trust you at large in your own country. (Acrey 39). Thus, in 1864, Navajo peoplewere forcibly removed by the U.S. federal government from their traditional homelands to eastern New Mexico. U.S. Army records indicate that at least 11,468 Navajos were forced to walk three hundred to five hundred miles to the internment camp called Bosque Redondo (Spanish translation is Round Forest) or Fort Sumner (Cheek 18). For four years, Navajo people were forced to stay in Bosque Redondo where starvation, disease, and restriction of their culture was prevalent. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Snows of Kilimanjaro Essay It is my claim that Ernest Hemingway s piece, The Snows of Kilimanjaro is most effective at showing how trivial life can be as it regards to what people think is needed to be successful in life for three main reasons. The reasons are that people put too much time into achieving unrealistic goals, people get too involved in obtaining their goals and do not appreciate what they have, and people have the wrong idea about success and can not obtain true success with the wrong vision of what it is. Some people put too much time into achieving their unrealistic goals, and never realize them and then end up wasting most of their life and lively hood in search of their personal success. Those same people also never stop to appreciate what they... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This work is appealing to this audience because they can identify with the main character Harry and his feelings of regret and self doubt of his accomplishments and position in life. Only when people get closer to death do they start to look back on their lives, and question whether they have done all they wanted or not. Lots of men in their late 30 s to late 40 s also tend to have a mid life crisis where they wonder what they have done with their life. Theses people can identify with Harry and can be targeted as the specific audience. The symbols used through out the story are what make The Snows of Kilimanjaro an appealing piece of literature. The vultures which descend upon and fly above the camp and the hyena who visits the camp signify naturally, in the context of the situation, the presence of death. The gangrenous leg of the dying writer is another symbol, of course, of death. But in the larger context, since Harry is a writer, they symbolize his moral corruption and artistic decay. Beyond this Harry s wife being a rich woman symbolizes the very forces which have brought about the destruction of his integrity. She is precisely identical with the gangrenous leg, and hence with the vultures and hyena. All of these are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Cad Unconventional Computer Aided Design Tailoring the Future of Fashion Industry 1. Introduction 1.1 Computer Aided Design (CAD) Computer aided design (CAD), also known as computer aided design and drafting (CADD), generally means the use of computer technology for the purpose of design and design documentation. CAD can be used to design curves, figures or solids in two dimensional (2D) or three dimensional (3D) spaces and it also provides graphics showing the overall appearances of products. Besides, CAD software is able to assist designers in creation, analysis, modification and optimization of design, and it also offers designers input tools so that they can easily streamline whole design process, including idea generation, sketching and manufacturing processes. The applications of CAD software are almost endless: designing machines, creating the structure of buildings, or creating cars and airplanes. CAD software are also widely used in advertising, technical manuals and even computer animation for the special effects in movies. CAD has brought a lot of benefits, such as a shortened product ... Besides, designers can view their designs of clothing on the virtual models in various colors and shapes, which save time by offering fewer adjustments of samples and prototypes later. There are many advantages of CAD in sketching, like easier modification, better visualization, however, the major advantage is that CAD software provides many handy tools that are unable to be used in traditional manual drawing method. CAD software reduces the demand for manual sketches and is continuing to replace old manual skills by updating itself. • 6. Julius Caesar Comradery The strength of a comradery is put to the test in the tragic play, Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare. Brutus, an honorable Roman, and Cassius, a man with questionable motives, come together against the Roman army after assassinating Julius Caesar. In the early parts of the play, these two men seem to work well together, however as the story progresses, the conspirators reveal their true colors which leads to their defeat. Although Brutus and Cassius lost the war and their lives in the original story, by having the two stick together and focus on what is important, they would pose an unstoppable force to the Romans thus saving both their lives. The first instance of Brutus and Cassius drift apart is in act four, scene two. The two revolutionaries... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This ghost is actually the manifestation of Brutus doubt and guilt, which is why Caesar says, thou shalt see me at Philippi, signifying that Brutus is not completely certain that his choice to advance to Philippi is the best decision to make (4.3.327). Without thinking, Brutus orders his servants to Bid [Cassius] set on his powers betimes before [us]..., which divided and weakened their army as a whole (4.3.353). Sending Cassius off without the help of Brutus army is a futile strategy, and he is aware of that. Brutus knows the strength of the Roman army but still sends Cassius group after them to preserve his own life. This shows that after their previous argument, Brutus does not really care about Cassius anymore despite his farewell to him in act five. How does this compare to his attitude in the extracts from the Iliad in your lecture/tutorial readings? The cruel rejection by Achilles to the supplication of Lykaon in Book 21 represents a fundamental transformation in the attitude of Achilles. Achilles has become full of anger and self loathing following the death of Patroclus. Achilles answers Lykaon s supplication by stating, I reject this childish plea for mercy, and I will accept no ransom. Until Patroclus died, I often spared suppliants, and sold them abroad; but now all Trojans I catch will die, especially all sons of King Priam! (Graves 1960 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Achilles has been tipped over the edge by the blame he feels for failing his responsibilities and completely loses his grip on reality. Achilles no longer adheres to the moral and social standards that were previously so important to him in his quest for personal glory. The old values Achilles held are no longer relevant and he has lost all sense of right versus wrong. Achilles atrocious acts are symbolic of the war raging inside his mind. In his vengeful slaying of the Trojans he is metaphorically trying to kill himself over and over again. At this point Achilles is completely obsessed on obtaining revenge by killing Hector and absolutely nothing will stop him achieving this aim. Achilles is now in a psychological traumatic state of mind. Achilles wrath reaches its pinnacle when he kills Hector, as he declares, at last I am avenged! (Graves 1960 22:317). It would now be reasonable to expect that from this moment on Achilles anger would begin to subside with the relief of his revenge. We would rightfully expect to begin to see the return of the old Achilles as previously told, but there is no gall in Achilleus heart, he is forgiving (Lattimore 2011 2:240) however this is most certainly not the case. Instead Achilles anger is further and even more disturbingly demonstrated by his mutilation of Hectors body. Achilles has not found peace in his revenge whatsoever instead he becomes more deranged than ever. The death of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Because without volunteers there can t be any games played or practices, and the kids won t get any better. Youth sports are important to the kids because it helps kids be able to work as a team better and work together with other kids, it helps them get better at the sportthey re playing, and it teaches them discipline and dedication. And, the better the kids get from playing in youthsport organizations, the higher chance they will have to maybe play in High School, College, and maybe even the pros. Making youth sports available early on can set people up to possibly play that sport for the rest of their life. Volunteers do a lot just so the kids can have a good time and learn more skills about a sport. Most pf the people that are involved with a sports organization do it for free and for the kids, if there wasn t volunteers, there s no sports. For example, they organize schedules for the games /practices, they run the scoreboard/score book, they run the snack bar, make food to sell at the snack bar, find places for the kids to practice and play in, they order uniforms, and they coordinate fundraising. • 12. Deaf Perceptions Of The Deaf Deaf Perceptions of Animacy Deaf culture has long been misunderstood and misrepresented within America, in part due to the significant language barrier between the American Deaf and their hearing counterparts. Though it is often thought to be nothing more than an elevated form of charades, American Sign Language (ASL) is a language like any other not only with its own grammatical syntax, phonology, and morphology, but also in its compliance to the Sapir Whorf hypothesis. Created by Edward Sapir and Benjamin Lee Whorf, the hypothesis exists in two degrees: weak and strong. The former claims that language shapes our thoughts, and thus our culture, while the latter version claims that language not only shapes our thoughts and our culture, it creates them. Though there is debate surrounding the degree to which the hypothesis extends, it is undoubtable that it is applicable to Deaf culture and its use of ASL as a first language in prelingually Deaf individuals. Using the Sapir Whorf hypothesis as its theoretical framework, this research proposes to investigate how the absence of copular verbs within ASL shapes Deaf perception of animacy and how such perceptions manifest within Deaf culture. Language was long thought to be a passageway passagewayfor thought; a go between that allowed one to translate their pre existing ideas into a communicable form via sounds, writing, and gesture (Cultural Encounters). There are also two sides to the story. While employers were anticipating the weakening of labor unions, the workers saw it as opportunity for not only individual advancement, but also a means of dignifying labor. • 18. Lab Report On Red Cabbage Indicator Red Cabbage Indicator Experiment Aim: The aim of our investigation was to identify and understand how different chemicals (Acids, alkalis and neutral) react and experience a change in colour due of this. Introduction: The red cabbage indicator shows how a usual household product such as red cabbage can make a suitable indicator and be able find out if a chemical is either and acid, alkali or neutral. Acids are a chemical that reacts with an alkali neutralising it producing water and a salt. Acids are also commonly found to be sour tasting. Acids react with metals, releasing hydrogen gas and leaving behind a salt they also can conduct electricity. Acids also readily give off hydrogen ions and have a pH level lower than 7. Some more common laboratory acids are Hydrochloric, Sulphuric and Nitric Acids. Sulphuric acids and water are used in car batteries as the electrolyte. Bases or alkali are a chemical that will react with acids and usually have a slimy or soapy feeling on contact with skin. Bases readily accept hydrogen ions and has a pH level that is higher the 7. Bases have a bitter taste and neutralise d by acids, producing water and a salt. Some common laboratory bases are Sodium Hydroxide, Potassium Hydroxide and Calcium Hydroxide. Stronger bases are commonly used today in many cleaning products. Indicators help us find wether if a chemical is an acid or base. The scale that is used to find wether a chemical is an acid or a base is the pH scale. The pH scale gives ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Maybe it is the sense of relief with you see the alluring island or maybe it is when you roll down your window smelling the salty ocean water with the warm breeze hitting your face, making your hair fly all over the place. Relaxing, sunbathing, and swimming are all reasons why Hilton Head Island is my favorite place. As I lay in the red, thin material, swaying hammock next to the roaring ocean water, I begin to relax. I listen to huge waves hit against the rocky wall that connects the grassy ground to the light blue ocean water. The longer I lay there the wind begins to pick up causing the hammock to sway more and more almost touching the tall, wide trees that are holding it up. The sounds of the rushing waves and the warm misty breeze causes my eyes to get very heavy almost as if I have a weight on my eyelids weighing them down. I usually end up falling asleep until my family wakes me up by forcefully shaking me. After I get up we drive down to the pier, so they can play in the sand while I sunbathe in the fire hot sun. • 23. Terra Preta Soils The higher fertility of Terra preta soils originally attracted the attention of geographers, soil scientists and archaeologists, where in general tropical soils can be low in fertility (Glaser et al. 2003). The addition of char seems to be very effective and productive in humid tropical areas, where soils tend to be highly weathered and infertile. The major challenge of agriculture within these regions is the high rates of decomposition of soilorganic matter (Zech et al. 1990). This is a consequence of temperatures and rates of precipitation. In undisturbed Venezuelan soil, the mean residence time of organic matter has been calculated at 4 years (Tiessen, Cuevas and Chacon 1994). Biochar is significantly more stable and thus the mean residence time of organic matter is far greater. Singh and Cowie (2014), study over a 5 year period showed biochar can have a mean residence time of approximately 100 1800 years; variance largely depends on conditions of pyrolysis and composition of feedstock. The Terra pretasoils are characterised by their high levels of soil organic matter, as they can contain up to 150 g/ kg of C in comparison to 30 g/kg of the surrounding 5 Amazonian ferrisols. They also contain enhanced levels of nutrients such as nitrogen, phosphorous, calcium and potassium centuries after the char was laid down in the soil (Lima et al. 2002; Smith, 1980). Jim Jones And Charles Manson Persuasion Cults Two of America s most famous cult leaders are Jim Jones and Charles Manson, they are powerful leaders that drove their followers to commit insanely violent, and crazy acts. Today, many people wonder what gave those men such power to influence their followers to commit crimes. Jim Jones, for example, was a visionary and he used religion to influence his followers to join his community . Jones persuasion was highly successful among the homeless, dispossessed, lonely, and lower middle class. These individuals were drawn in large numbers to the Peoples Temple. Using reams of personal documents and types of propaganda to recruit more people to Jonestown. Jonestown gave them fellowship, a dream of social justice, social services clinics for free health care, drug rehabs, legal aid, and a sense of purpose. Jones followers gave him all their worldly possessions, money, and all the power he needed even though he was just as average as his followers. Jones didn t start out as this powerful leader he came to be , he was born into a bitterly unhappy home in Crete, Indiana. Jones himself was also a drug addict, a sexual predator among both sexes, and somehow he accomplished to fake to a large amount of people that he was against everything that he was still doing in secret (George Russell). Jim eventually found his place as a member of a small Christian church in his home town. Jones said he joined the religion because he never felt accepted, and he was drawn to fellow outcasts. He soon acquired a gift for charismatic preaching and took it to neighborhoods that were populated primarily by African American in the 1950s. It was in these neighborhoods where he preached racial inclusion and gathered a mixed race congregation. This did not sit well with many people in this era before the civil rights movement, and it added to his progressive reputation. He became head of the Indianapolis Human Rights Commission, which is a large reason he would recruit different ethnicities to join his temple. Jones also in order to get more members used informers in his audiences to get information out of the unsuspecting faithful that he could reveal as evidence of clairvoyant powers, and he hired fake invalids who would rise from ... Additionally, in Ponyo an example was also shown of Sosuke, a little boy helping Ponyo when she was trapped in a jar; at first, the way the director depicted that scene, it seemed as if the boy was going to hurt Ponyo which turned out not to be the case, that he too, like Haku was a loving caring human being. From the narrator s point of view all of the characters looked suspicious, that some of them needed something; towards the end of the movies, the audiences could tell that the director was trying to alter the human perceptions.... In Ponyo it was also important for her to have a name. When they were young, the narrator and his friend Sergio liked to play at the arroyo to pass time. One day, they found a grinding ball which they suspect must have been used for mining. The cannonball was something perfect in an imperfect world, innocence in an adult world, and it was something they wanted to keep forever, just like how kids will always want to be kids. Minority Candidates Advantages And Disadvantages To evaluate the question as to whether minority candidates are disadvantaged in campaign funding support, a dataset constructed of the amount of monetary support for a candidate, candidate characteristics, and district characteristics, is needed. The difficulty in the data collection effort is the small number of minority candidates running in any given year in a general election cycle (Hogan and Thompson 1998). Extending the timeframe across several years would increase the number of minority candidates in the dataset, yet, one aspect to consider when evaluating the data is the number of times the same candidate is in the data set, yet accounting for incumbency and challenger status can help to indicate if certain candidates are driving the funding support levels. At the federal level, many elected officials come from safe districts where incumbents have the advantage and are reelected at a high rate. The data set is also focusing on congressional elections. Focusing on the federal level helps to fit the research into the larger literature related to minority campaigns and financial support (Theilman and Wilhite 1989, 1991; Wilhite 1988, Whilhite and Theilman 1989).
