Forensics of Blood
Forensics of Blood Blood evidence is the most common, most recognized and possibly most
important evidence in the world of criminal justice. Throughout the history of violent and fatal
crimes, bloodstain evidence has recently begun to emerge as a recognized forensic skill. Blood is
one of the most significant and frequently encountered types of physical evidence associated with
forensic investigation of death and violent crime (Eckert amp; James, 11). When a violent crime
has been committed, bloodis commonly left behind at the scene of the crime. This blood evidence
allows police investigators to piece together the events of the crime. The texture, size, shape, and
distribution of the blood can be used to determine when the crime... Show more content on

After spraying luminol, in a darkened room, the luminol will react with the iron in the hemoglobin
of the blood which catalyzes the luminescence. This reaction causes the emission of a blue glow
lasting for approximately 30 seconds. Although luminol is useful in detecting small traces of blood,
there are some disadvantages to using it. One disadvantage is the sensitivity of the solution and the
blood itself. 75 years ago, luminol was introduced to the forensic field as a blood search technique.
Since its introduction, much investigation has been done to enhance the solution in order to get a
longer and more intense/brighter luminescence reaction with the blood. Besides the importance of
the pH level of the solution, most of these investigations came to the conclusion that adding more
chemicals and/or solution enhances the brightness and duration of the reaction. However, this
process also potentially damages the DNA and bloodstain pattern itself. Up till now, hardly any
investigation has been done into the enhancement of the catalyst in this reaction process: the blood
(haemoglobin) itself (Eversdijk, 12). The chemiluminescence of luminol can occasionally be
activated by compounds containing copper, bleaching chemicals, animal blood, fecal matter,
semen, and even saliva. To determine if a substance is blood, forensic investigators can perform
other tests. The Kastle Meyer test is another

My Totem Pole Essay
My Totem Pole A totem pole is a tall log carved mainly by the indigenous people of Alaska and
British Columbia. The poles tell stories that have been passed down from generation to generation
as legends and myths. However, that is not the only type of totem pole, there are totems that tell
the carver s history, their family s history and some are even used to honor the dead. Additionally,
some totem poles were made to show respect to an important tribal member. Totem poles feature
animals and symbols, chosen by the carver to represent themselves, another person, or an event. I
have chosen to construct a totem poleto represent my qualities and personality. My totem pole will
feature a deer, a fox, a monkey, and a cat. For my first totem animal, I have chosen the deer. I
chose this animal because I am quiet when I am around people I don t know. Also, the deer is
said to be helpful and not knowingly hurt anything, well, I try to be helpful and I don t try to hurt
anybody that I care about. I am different from the deer because deer are said to be uncaring about
what people say to try to convince them to do something, but I usually listen to people that I trust

fox in many ways since I don t have four legs, a tail and fluffy fur (just joking). I am different
than the fox since I m not extremely alert to danger, and if I am, then usually I just ignore it and

Animal Farm Ignorance Is Bliss
Ignorance is bliss is a common phrase that has been adapted to our daily conversation. This
phrase is by Thomas Gray in the poem, Ode on a Distant Prospect of Eton College. What Gray
means is sometimes when one is not aware of what is happening around them, they are happier
than if they were. Thomas Gray goes on to say, Tis folly to be wise. This goes back to what is said
earlier, that people can be in a worse state if they are aware of their surroundings. In the book,
Animal Farm, written by George Orwell, there are some examples of the saying by Gray in the
story.
One instance when the phrase is illustrated is with Boxer. The horse worked and worked day in
and day out. He didn t care what the politics were on the farm. He stayed loyal to the farm and he
was as happy as he could get. In Animal Farm, it says, He adopted the maxim, Napoleon is always
right, in addition to his private motto of I will work harder (Orwell 56). This example proves that
Boxer is easily swayed and doesn t have a definite opinion of the state of the leadership. However,
Boxer truly believes he is happy with his position and doesn t waiver in his beliefs. The other ...

In the Animal Farm, Snowball was aware of every aspect of the farm. He was always stressed
and worried for the well being of the farm animals. Snowball was eventually the scape goat of the
farm and fled because Napoleon thought that Snowball was a threat to his leadership. Snowball
knew too much and paid the price of happiness and sanctuary. An example in the book says, At
the meetings, Snowball often won over the majority with his brilliant speeches. . . (Orwell 47).
This proves that Snowball was very smart and won favor over Napoleon, causing conflict.
Napoleon wanted him gone so he had Snowball chased off the farm. Snowball was not ignorant

Nusrat Character Analysis
(AGG) Some people get lost in the dark, while others find the light to guide them (Aurooba).
(BS 1) Nusrat has an emotional tie to the stars that built a connection between them. (BS 2)
People tend to attach memories to physical objects, this is what Nusrat does with the stars. (BS
3) Nevertheless dreams are where your mind travels when your sleeping, Nusrat s mind goes to
where she feels safe, Margaret, Faiz and the stars. (TS) While experiencing these troubles of
losing the two people who meant the world to her, Nusrat uses the stars to guide her on her
journey. (MIP 1) On the surface, Nusrat reveals what the stars mean to her, She has many
memories tied to the stars. (SIP A) After Margret died, Nusrat lost the only person that
understood her; she has many good memories of Margaret and her with the stars. (STEWE 1)
When Nusrat talks to her mother about her memories with her sister, she phrases them in the
question, do you remember when margret and I used to sit in the apple trees in Grandpa s
orchard? (Staples 54). After Margaret dies, Nusrat missed the things that her and Margret used to
do together, she missed the memories they shared while watching the stars. She begins to feel
isolated because her own mother does not even understand why she is so upset. The author uses
Margret and Nusrat s connection to the stars to later show her feelings about Margret. (STEWE 2)

Maycomb Great Depression
There was no hurry, for there was nowhere to go, nothing to buy, and no money to buy it with,
nothing to see outside the boundaries of Maycomb County (Lee 5). Maycomb County was
impacted by the Great Depression, mostly because it was a small community based town. In
Harper Lee s, To Kill a Mockingbird, the Great Depressionplayed a considerable role in the setting,
theme, and characters.
The Great Depression seemed to engulf smaller cities much faster than it did the bigger cities. The
people of Maycomb spent their days standing in town imploring for goods that they could no
longer afford. According to the author, they begin having sit down strikes in the big cities of
Alabama; also the bread lines were forming throughout the day (Lee 116). ... Show more content on

Some people through the story left the town with hopes of finding a better life elsewhere.
According to Lee, John Finch, Atticus brother, commuted to a bigger city because cotton could
not be grown in Maycomb (Lee 5). When saying this, Harper Lee is indicating that people were
not in sustainable conditions while in Maycomb. The farm land was almost impossible for
growing anything. Therefore, the people that stayed in Maycomb faced challenging times. The
people are very home oriented; whereas they are willing to face tragedies just to stay in their home
town with the people that they love. This aspect of the book is very important. The people of
Maycomb are so close. Maycomb County came together when the whole world seemed to come to a
halt during the Depression. The setting, theme, and characters were most affected by the Great
Depression. The small town of Maycomb stood together through the worst of times. Throughout the
novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, the reader is allowed to form a connection with the characters through
all of the trials and tribulations shown throughout the novel. The examples of the Great Depression
that Lee uses throughout the story create a strong visual of what it might have been like during the

Tolerance In To Kill A Mockingbird
As much as people try to avoid it, fact is that no one in this world is born equal; there is always
something unique that sets one different from another. It is those differences that require us, as
Barbara Jordon says, to accept people who are different that ourselves. Jordan emphasizes the
importance of tolerance and how it helps us develop into better societies and people. During the
1930 s, different races in the United States were being discriminated against their skin tone and
placed on separate levels. In more modern times, people were still being criticized for having
different ideas and while acting upon them. Even all the way in Iraq, discriminationis presented
once again towards Jews and their independent country. Anything contrasting oneself will never
be the same as he or she would like, creating a necessity to tolerate. Barbara Jordan s quote helps
reveal that tolerance is essential to avoid conflict, to unite with others, and to change for the better.
The award winning novel To Kill a Mockingbird, written by Harper Lee, teaches through the eyes
of a young girl that problems originated from intolerance. Atticus, a man defending a negro, poses
to the jury the idea why the case is unfair. He argues that The state has not produced one iota of
medical evidence proving Tom guilty and in turn has relied instead upon the testimony of two
witnesses , whose claims have been flatly contradicted by the defendant (Lee 271). To translate, the

A Comparison of Brave New World and Blade Runner Essay
A Comparison of Brave New World and Blade Runner
In the worlds of the narrative text Brave New World (1932), composed by Aldous Huxley and the
visual text Blade Runner (Director s Cut) (1992), directed by Ridley Scott, perhaps the most
significant thematic concern is that of the intervention into the natural order by elitist human
forces. Responders are confronted with stark, forlorn visions of a future that has alienated the
natural environment from humanity, creating a society of moral destitution, in which its
inhabitants are substantially lacking as human beings. Humanity in these worlds is governed by
loss, loss of the natural , and loss of spirituality. It is man s obstruction of the ... Show more content

Lower castes in Brave New World are indoctrinated to hate nature so they remain happy to be
incarcerated in the factories doing the work their predetermined social status requires of them. A
love of nature keeps no factories busy. It was decided to abolish a love of nature. This passage
serves as a consequential metaphor that assumes an enjoyment and appreciation of the environment
impedes industrial progress. Furthermore, the absolutism with which it was consciously decided to
abolish a love of nature speaks to the extent to which man has sought to eradicate nature in the
novel.
This New World Utopia depicts a society where the pursuit of pleasure is not only encouraged but
imposed upon its citizens. Juvenile sexual practice is expected, monogamy is a myth and deemed
repugnant, and interpersonal romantic relationships are seen as anti social, and unacceptable. The
narcotic soma is ingested with the ultimate objective to create a numbed populace who willingly
accept without question their roles and responsibilities in what is a highly oppressive system. In
both texts the insignificant, Epsilons of Brave New World and little people of Blade Runner, are
kept in their place for an essentially sadistic purpose. In Brave New World, in particular, we see that
the Epsilons are socially conditioned and indoctrinated through

How The Three Witches Prophecies Affect Macbeth
Macbeth by Shakespeare is powerful play about the good and evil in every individual. In
Macbeth the three witches prophecies play a major influence on Macbeth and his actions. When
Macbeth meets the three witches he is told that he will be the Thane of Cawdor and king. His
hopes of becoming king started to over power the good will in himself and he began to do many
things to make him king. (The prophecies not only raised his ambition but also increased his
confidence and greed.) The equivocation in the three witcheswords played on his ambition which
caused him to do many horrible crimes. Also the vagueness in the witches prophecies caused

Inequality in To Kill a Mockingbird
One of the major themes of To Kill a Mockingbird is the divisions in human society and how those
cause inquality among people. Even though most people know that they shouldn t judge others, it s
human nature, and because of this, it causes different sections of society. Most of the characters
experience this throughout the novel. In To Kill a Mockingbird, certain divisions in society cause
inequality in the town of Maycomb, and the characters and the reader both learn important lessons.
When unequal divides in society form, the person or group of people that are looked down upon
don t get the respect that they should. In Maycomb, anyone different from the traditional southern
ways gets the short end of the stick. Raceis an obvious division in the society of Maycomb. White
people are automatically thought of as good people, while African Americans do not get accepted.
The people of Maycomb seem to think that there s something not right about black people, just
because that s not traditional in the south. Tradition states that white people are better than black
people without a question, and we can see through name calling and the unfair trail that many
people in Maycomb still hold on to this tradition. They don t even think that African Americans
deserve to associate with whites hardly at all. Examples of characters experiencing this divide are
Atticus and Tom. Atticus gets looked down upon by a lot of people in the town simply because he
wanted to defend Tom, who was

Details from this novel by Kate Chopin demonstrate how this quote aptly captures the theme and
spirit of The Awakening, as well as the situation of women in the nineteenth century and even
today. First, one most look to the white beach, Edna has trod on her entire life. This beach is the
safe and sturdy ground that Adele Ratignolle thrives upon. Attired all in white, Madame
Ratignolle embodies the very spirit of the mother woman. They were women who idolized their
children, worshiped their husbands, and esteemed it a holy privilege to efface themselves as
individuals and grow wings as ministering angels. Ch. IV, pg 385. However, on this white beach,
where women in white brood over all, . . .Edna was not a mother woman. Ch. IV, pg 385. Rather
than dig her toes into the colorless sands, Edna prefers meandering walks, perhaps on the shoreline
itself. The imagery of Edna walking along as the waters lap at her feet is profound.
Edna is thus far trapped on the ground, not yet knowing how to swim, but wanting desperately to
swim into the boundless water. Therefore, she must be content with life on land, experiencing
only a portion of the fluid as it swirls around her ankles. So Edna marries a man her father
approves of, has children her husband approves of, and mimes a life society approves of. Here and
there, the water of living laps at Edna s feet tempting her to jump in.

Hypothesis Of A Hypothesis Test
Hypothesis testing is very essential in statistical analysis. It is quite imperative to state both a null
hypothesis and an alternative hypothesis when conducting a hypothesis test because the
hypotheses are mutually exclusive and if one statement is true then the other is proven as false.
According to Mirabella (2011, p. 4 1) states that, When we have a theory about a parameter (the
average is...,the proportion is....,etc), we can test that theory via a hypothesis test. Therefore, that is
what we have used to determine if the average age of Whatsamatta U MBA students is less than
45. We have to conduct a one sample hypothesis test to prove if we can accept or reject the null
hypothesis. In order to determine what decision rule, which is the statement that tells under which
condition to reject the null hypothesis, to propose we must first determine if we are instituting a
upper tailed, lower tailed, or two tailed test. There are many steps used when initiating a
hypothesis test. First and foremost it is vital to specify the null and alternative hypothesis, next we
have to determine a significance level that is tolerable such as 0.05 which is your tolerance for
error, and last we have to calculate the statistic that is comparable to the parameters set by the null
hypothesis.
Additionally, when utilizing hypothesis testing, we are attempting to determine whether or not to
accept or reject the null hypothesis. Furthermore, we have to determine if there is enough

Hawaiian Hula Dancing
The strong presence of military occupation resulted from a bottom up process in which settler s
desires for the economic prosperity and opportunity compelled them to migrate and stake their
claim to these territories. Interactions between the local Hawaiians, international tourists, and
the US military shaped the theory of settler colonialism. Trask writes Just five hours away by

Perpetuating Hawaiian hula dancers as a feminine, yet immoral, and concurrently portraying
American men as respectable and honorable demonstrates the influence of American presence in the
Hawaiian Islands. The exotification of hula dancing as a function of the white male gaze facilitated
settler colonialism. Hula dancers, as an example of sexual violence and exploitation, behave in a
manner that is smutty and salacious rather than powerfully erotic. The distance between the smutty
and the erotic is precisely the distance between Western culture and Hawaiian culture (Trask, 191).
Among military men, the mere act of cultural and sexual expression is translated into pleasurable
entertainment for the male consumer. In turn, the cost of turning hula dancing into accessible
entertainment allows military men to establish their superiority and dominance by marginalizing
Hawaiian women who are seen as weak and submissive entertainers. An ancient form of dance with
deep spiritual meaning, has been made ornamental, a form of exotica for the white male

a woman who has inappropriately overstepped her bounds, the hypocrisy of preaching

ruling by pulling strings in the background. For many centuries, Wu was used by the Chinese

achieve gaining ten pounds in the four weeks of my psychology class. The reason why I chose
this is because all my life I have struggled to gainweight, I would go through tubs of protein and
eat whatever my heart desired and I would always stay the same weight. After joining the military
I was able to plan out my meals and with the exceeded workout plans every day I was able to put
some weight on my body, but yet my metabolismwas still too fast and I would rapidly lose the
weight I had worked so hard to gain. My metabolism was so fast I even considered too stop
exorcising and ate junk food for a whole month but quickly realized that was not the right route to
go.
Starting my weight gaining goal for these four week project helped me get back into the rhythm I
had once lost. The first week was the hardest, I had to go back and reorganize how I lived my day
to day life. First I had to relearn all about nutrition and what foods would help me achieve my ten
pound goal by the end of the four weeks. I had to make sure I ate enough calories throughout the
day and compensate the calories that I would burn with and without working out, so I started my
plan off with about MMM calories a day to see

Essay about The Effect of Highspeed Trains on Society
The Effect of Highspeed Trains on Society A major reason in favor of the construction of high
speed trains in America is to relieve airways and traffic congestion. First, delays at airports are
costly. Larry Johnson, director of the Center for transportation Research at Argonne National
Laboratory near Chicago, calculates that passengers lose more that twelve million hours each
year in delays at O Hare airport alone. In 1986, according to the Federal Aviation Administration
(FAA) airlines, delays cost five billion dollars, including two billion in extra fuel and labor cost,
for the ailing airline industry. According to the FAA, relieving airport congestion will cost one
hundred and seventeen billion over the next decade (Mobey 14).... Show more content on

In the next twenty years, this insidious tax is projected to nearly double (Mallinckarodt p1). Bill
Fay said, Cars stuck in traffic waste more fuel and emit more pollutants than cars that are
moving (Dahl 4). High occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes are one of the primary tools used to
reduce traffic congestion on the state highway system and improve air quality ( HOV Lanes in
California #8230; p1). The usual goal of HOV lane restrictions is to provide overall congestion,
and emissions reduction (Mallinckdet. p 1). However, in recent years, HOV lanes effectiveness
in achieving these goals has come in to question ( HOV Lanes in California #8230; p1). When
drivers use a highway, they do not pay the cost that they may be imposing on other drivers. Ideally,
traffic should flow smoothly at the speed limit. However, as traffic increases, eventually the
addition of one more vehicle will slow the flow and increase the travel time of other vehicles. At
this point congestion (the negative externality) begins (Dahl p4). Sen Daniel Patrick Moynihan
said, The train technology, offers great opportunities to reduce congestion in our surface and air
transportation system (Clough 9). Thus building high speed trains would aid the problem of
increasing congestion at America s airports and on the highways. Those who argue against high
speed trains cite their

A Defining Moment Research Paper
Everyone has their own fears in life. Some people fear a certain type of animal, while others
might fear losing a loved one. About three years ago, I had many fears that I still have today. Such
as a deathly fear of heights, the thought of not being good enough, and lastly the fear of failure.
My brother Kevin offered to take me skiing at Ski Brule in Iron River. I had never gone skiing
before and I was filled with anticipation, excitement, and nervousness. I felt as if someone had
turned my stomach into a washing machine and thrown some rocks inside. I grabbed all of my
things and packed them into Kevin s Volkswagen Jetta and we hit the road. Upon arrival at Ski

After I got over my embarrassment, I had a great time skiing. I started off the day afraid to fail,
afraid of heights, and lastly afraid of not being good enough. In school, I ve learned that my story

The Role Of Administrator And The Administration Of The...
Introduction Healthcare is a profession that is demanding, but being an administrator is a field that
can reshape the future state of healthcare. As a healthcare administrator there are so many different
aspects of healthcare that an individual can be involved in. Administration is the business of
healthcare all while trying to run an organization and the providers within. The best way to
understand the role of an administrator is through an interview. The interview that was conducted
was with a registered nurse that was promoted to the director of the Emergency Department at
Virginia Beach General Hospital. This paper will explore the roles of an Administrator and what it
takes to run a department or even a facility.
Background of Administrator Kim Schmidt has worked in healthcare for over 15 years, she
worked her way through the rankings becoming a registered nurse and receiving her
Baccalaureates degree. Working hard she was promoted to the director and helped to make it a
better facility for not only the employees but the patients. Having known Kim for several years
working under her management, it has been a great experience. Working in a level two trauma
center was not an easy task but Kim rose to the occasion and made great changes to the facility.
This interview was held in the heart of the Emergency Department in Virginia Beach General
Hospital to gain a different perspective what the leadership task entails as an administrator. Virginia

Analysis Of Movie And Displaying Modes Of Captions
While viewing Movies
When it comes to while viewing movies, I will analyze and stress such two issues to be
implemented: introduction to the movie and displaying modes of captions. My statements and
reviews are as follows:
Introduction to the movie. Apart from pre teaching a list of new words and phrases in a film, EFL
teachers should give their students a small introduction to the movie just before watching in class.
Some offered this proposal like Bueno (2009), He (Altman, 1989) cautioned that instructors must
provide background information when film genres do not include explicit information regarding the
systems of culture and thus the nonnative viewer lacks the cultural context needed to interpret a
scene (p. 320). EFL teachers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Otherwise, EFL teachers can create some class tasks to inform their students of what the movie is
about before watching. Knowing the meaning and importance of the movie, students will pay more
attention to the movie they will watch later. A range of class tasks can be designed such as class
surveys, problem resolution, video title discussion, brainstorming, consideration of a film summary,
information gap exercises, semantic mapping, and dictionary consultation (Stempleski Arcario,
1993, p. 28 30). According to Wang and Liu (2011), Before the movie watching, brainstorming the
students with words according to their subject, this would diverse their thinking, activate their
vocabulary schema, and compensate each other (p. 44). In another aspect, Bueno (2009) suggested
instructors (should) utilize an overarching question that set the theme for interpreting the films to
be viewed and discussed (p. 323). Concerning the questions, Wang and Liu (2011) explained, The
questions may be about the whole movie or just about the details, leading students to appreciate the
movie with purposes, capture meaningful information and exchange their ideas (p. 44). Judith
(2001) in the study showed how to inform students of post viewing tasks before watching by
giving an example, (before showing) a video that shows the trials of asking someone out on a date,

Rhyolite History
The 19th century saw a construction and population boom in North America, as a result of the
California Gold Rush and the flourishing of the mining industry all over the United States, which
drew new settlers from Europe, Latin America and Asia. Once the gold and coal resources dried up,
many of these newly found, remote towns emptied out, as its inhabitants moved to larger areas
looking for new opportunities. These are some of the coolest ghost towns that still stand within
American territory.
Number Seven: Bodie, California
Prospector W.S. Body founded Bodie in 1859 in California, close to the Nevada border, after
finding gold reserves in the area. At the peak of the Gold Rush, Bodie had a population of 10,000.

The Societal Construction Of Sexual Scripts And Gendered...
You lie so much, you have become to believe your own lies (140). The societal construction of
sexual scripts and gendered expectations produces a universal emphasis on heteronormativity. As a
result, any deviance from said expectations frequently results in societal opprobrium and thus a
conditioned fear for those who fail to conform to their hetero dominant culture. In Giovanni s
Room, we encounter a young man, David, who battles with his sexuality throughout his life, even
in cultures more openly accepting than his native Brooklyn. David s own propensity for self
deception and hatred is externalized in his interactions with those who represent the sexual identify
he so desperately tries to deny and repress. This active projection is crucial in understanding David
s concept of masculinity and his ingrained fear of rejection by the heternormative society that
produced him. Societal and familial genderand sexual socialization play a major role in David s
persistent self hatred. His father placed an extreme emphasis on masculinity during David s
childhood. David overhears him tell his aunt that, all he wants for David is that he grow up to be
a man (15). The heternormative culture of Giovanni s Room taught David that in order to be a
real man, you must desire, love, and marry a woman. As a result of this gender and sexual
socialization, David experiences persistent feelings of self hatred and in order to cope with those
feelings, he continually lies to himself about his

some I may flaunt just a bit while with other pieces I try to just turn in, get a grade, and then hide

1. The bulk of 1988 per share earnings were due to
a) Very slow goodwill amortization
b) Stretched out life for hit tapes
c) Nonrecurring items of initial franchise fees, area development fees and sales to new franchises.
2. Steeper growth curve resulting from acquisitions that were treated as pooling
3. Inflation of sales in the fourth quarter. Revenues are recognized when products are shipped with
no indication that the stores purchasing were actually open for business.

We do not agree with BV s practice of recognizing the revenue upon shipping the supplies because
without acceptance of supplies by stores, it does not satisfy the requirement of completing all
activities that lead to completion of the critical event.
4. We agree that BV ran out of cash. The net working capital was $10384M and Accounts Payable
tripled. We also agree with the double counting and mismatch in financial statements.
A3
Part 1 Concerns that have been addressed
1 b. The hit tapes are now being amortized over a much shorter period В– The costs of non base
stock videocassettes (generally greater than four copies per title for each store i.e. hits ) are
amortized on an accelerated basis over three months to an estimated $4 salvage value.
2. Acquisitions treated as pooling В– All acquisitions were accounted for under the purchase
method and accordingly the operating results of the acquired businesses are included in the
consolidated results of operations of the company since their respective date of acquisition.
3. Critical event for sale of supplies to stores В– BV is using a rental library approach for supplies
for the new stores. Revenue sharing allows BV to purchase videocassettes at a lower product cost
than traditional buying arrangements.
Part 2 Concerns that remain
1 a. The goodwill continues to be amortized over a period of 40 years.

Donatellos David Essay
Donatellos David
Donatello was one of the most important and influential artists of the fifteenth century. As a master
artist, he sculpted some of the most beautiful pieces of the Italian Renaissance. His innovations
impacted many artists of his time, and set the standard for centuries of sculptors to follow.
Donatello s style is clearly defined and easily recognized in nearly all of his pieces. An exception is
the bronze, David, dated 1425 1430. David strays from the traditional style of Donatello with
reference to style, form, and medium. Historians speculate on the reasons for this breakthrough
with regards to Donatello s philosophies and life experiences, questioning his brief return to the
classical style, as well as the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His arms are slightly long for his body, and the muscles not as developed as those of a man. His
waist is small, and the form of his ribs is sculpted enough to know that he is lacking muscle
definition. His stomach seems to pop out a little bit, perhaps suggesting the baby fat that he has
yet to work off. He has one hand resting limply on his hip, while his other rests on a sword
handle. His hair is shoulder length and slightly untamed, while a hat rests slightly tilted atop his
head. His head is tilted slightly downward, and a slight upward bend in his lip looks almost like a
building smile. One leg is straight, supporting his weight, while the other is propped on the head of
the slain Goliath. The bends of his limbs are very natural, and the attention to detail exemplifies
Donatello s understanding of human anatomy. A closer look at the sculpture, however, reveals the
details that set it apart from other works of the master.
Donatello, considered a master of the nude, cared little to produce them in his sculptures. David,
an exception to his previous work, would be completely naked if not for his boots and hat. A hint
of romantic charm lies in the figure s hat. A broad brim garlanded with bay leaves, the hat throws
David s face into a deep shadow and seems to suggest the simple life of a shepherd. The whole
pose of David is inert, tame and non threatening, despite the severed head beneath

will help the staff repair trails, fencing, signs, and clean up trash that has been left behind on the
trails. I will receive, sign, and turn in a waiver by September 25th. I will have closed toe shoes,
and the necessities to stay safe and hydrated. On September 30th, my father will drive me to the

the trails and signs. On September 30th, a group of volunteers and I will restore trails by moving
dirt so ruts or eroded parts of the path are fixed and smooth for comfortable hikes. On National
Public Lands Day, we will make sure footpaths are easy to walk on by hikingthem ourselves, and
fixing any parts that seem difficult to pass. On September 30th, we will ensure trails are clearly

Character Development In The Scarlet Letter By Nathanial...
The Scarlet Letter by Nathanial Hawthorne often uses character development to foreshadow the
inevitable outcome of the novel. Hawthorne wrote, And now, through the chamber which these
spectral thoughts had made so ghastly, glided Hester Prynne leading along little Pearl, in her scarlet
garb, and pointing her forefinger, first at the scarlet letteron her bosom, and then at the clergyman s
own chest. This quote foreshadows the ending of the novel, including Dimmesdale s confession and
demise. Hester Prynneand Dimmesdale both show a strong development of character throughout
the novel which all contribute to the final outcome. In this society and period of time, Hester is
considered to have deviated from the norm. Many valued and followed Puritan beliefs and it
appeared as if Hester had strayed from the path. When the novel began, she was separated from
the rest of the Puritan world, and behind the wooden door. The door symbolized sin; those on the
inside have violated the traditional beliefs of a faithful Puritan. Hester was punished for
committing adultery, and therefore was isolated from the rest of society. She is ashamed of her
actions, and because of them, she is required to wear a scarlet letter upon her breast. After
attempts of covering the letter, she is informed that it is part of her punishment and must be worn
at all times. Hester is embarrassed and feels weak due to the presence of the letter, however, this

Heroes As Role Models
Heroes are people with courage and perseverance, have made a significant impact in people s

Jackson are perfect examples of heroes because they stood up to the racism and sexism they
received working at NASA, and did not allow it to stop them from being the best mathematicians
and scientists that they could be. Katherine Johnson, probably the most well known of the three
women, was born on 26 August, 1918, in White Sulfer Springs, West Virginia
. As a young girl, her
absolute curiosity and brilliance in maths put her ahead several grades, and by the age of thirteen,
she was attending high school. When she was eighteen, she enrolled in university, and graduated as

graduated with highest honors in 1937 and took a job teaching at a black public school in
Virginia (Loff). She was hired for NASA, originally called NACA, in June 1953 and was
assigned a project almost immediately. In 1958, NACA became NASA, and four years later,
Katherine began working on satellite calculations to prepare for the first American man into

Description Of A Database Management System
Chris Velasquez
MGMT 329
Final Research Paper to Pass
A database is an organized collection of data. It is the collection of tables, queries, reports,
viewings, and other objects. The data are typically organized to model aspects of reality in a way
that supports processes requiring information, such as modelling the structure of a major business
such as Walmart, and all of its data including things like their inventory, customers, and their
employees. A databasemanagement system is a computer software application that interacts with
the user, other applications, and the database itself to capture and analyze data. A general purpose
database management system is designed to allow the definition, creation, querying, update, and
administration of databases. The Database uses terms that are key for anyone to sift through the
collection of data that any company or business collects. terminology consists of keywords that
will help users select desired pieces of data. The primary key is a special relational database table
column of a collection of columns appointed to individually identify all table records. The
primary key s main features include: it cannot contain a unique value for each row of data, and it
cannot contain null values. The primary key is either an existing table column or a column that is
explicitly initiated by the database according to a defined sequence. The foreign key is a column or

Celiac Disease And Its Effects On The Body System
Celiac disease seems to be on an up rise today. You now walk into grocery stores and restaurants
and see gluten free food everywhere. Thankfully, for the celiac disease community, life has
become a little easier with these accommodations. When most people hear celiac disease many
just think gluten free diets, but they do not realize that celiac disease can affect all parts of the
body and mind, or that the disease has a higher prevalence in women. It is a new lifestyle that
many have to take on. In the next few pages, I will discuss the affects that this disease has on the
body systems, the lifestyle changes many make when diagnosed with celiac disease, and the
importance of educating those who are dealing with the disease on a day to day basis. I also will
discuss information from two articles which focus in on the direct affects that the disease takes
on women living with it, and the lifestyle changes that are necessary to manage the symptoms.
Celiac disease is seen in about 1 2% of the population, with a 2:1 woman to men ratio (Lisa Ring

with celiac disease. There is much more information out there about these special diets. Life has

tried with some success to conceal. Photos show him with a pair of white gloves in his left hand
to make the withered arm seem longer. In others, he holds his left hand with his right or has his
withered arm on the bottom of a sword. In others, he is seen holding a cane to give the image of a
useful limb posed at a dignified angle. His left arm was about 6 inches shorter than his right arm.
Historians have mentioned that the disability affected his emotional development. ... Show more

The Role Of The Doctrine Of Precedent
The purpose of this essay focus on the important role of the doctrine of precedent in Australia
legal system. The doctrine of precedent, in a simple words, is the principle that binds the
common law together. As a general rule it means the courts were bound to follow the decisions of
all courts superior to it in its own court hierarchy. This paper is divided into four parts. The first
part mentions a background of the topic, the second part concentrates on analyzing the principle as
well as the advantages and disadvantages of the doctrine of precedent. Finally the conclusion sums
up the outcome of the research.
The doctrine of precedent, as mentioned, was settled in the nineteenth century. Before that,
precedents were considered to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The diagram above show the Australia Court hierarchy. The diagram is also demonstrate how the
concept of Doctrine of Precedent applies.
A further question that arise is when the High Court of Australia and the Supreme Court of
Victoria will depart from their previous decisions. First of all, the High Court of Australia will
normally follow its own earlier decisions and will depart from them if there is a strong reason to
do so. In the case in which the High Court did not follow its own previous decision, it said that:
while stare decisis is a sound policy because it promotes predictability of judicial decision and
facilitates the giving of advice, it should not always trump the need for desirable change in the law
especially we would add if the change is necessary to maintain a better connection with more
fundamental doctrines and principle . For example, in the case of Imbree v McNeilly (2008) 249
ALR 647 7, the decision of the previous case named Cook v Cook (1986) 162 CLR 376 8 was no
longer a good law to be follow therefore the court decided to overruled this previous case.
Conversely, a court of appeal will normally follow its own previous decision and the situations
that it determines not to do so will be rare. For instant, the Victorian Court of Appeal only depart
from its own previous decision where it is convinced that the decision is clearly, or plainly, wrong

Religion In Public Schools
A highly controversial issue that is commonly discussed is whether or not religion should be taught
in public schools. In a society as diverse as our own, a course where students learn about the worlds
various belief systems is essential to a well rounded education. Some think religion shouldn t be
taught in the educational environments because it will lead to disagreements or arguments ,the
topic could easily offend someone or others simply don t like the thought of religious views being
forced upon their children. Although these reasons seem valid, Learning about religionin schoolis
extremely beneficial for our diverse student body because it is critical to develop global

People will argue that bullying and religiously motivated hate crimes are still an ongoing issue
around the world and teaching about religion will only encourage these acts of hate, Although it is
true these acts of hate are still a constant issue the teaching of the various belief systems in public
school would be a step in the right direction of gradually eliminating these issues. There are facts
that confirm that the teaching of many worldly religions can improve our character, knowledge
and society. If all these positive outcomes are from teaching about worldly religion in school, Why

How Partitioning Clustering Technique For Implementing...
ABSTRACT :Due to the huge growth and expansion of the World Wide Web, a large amount of
information is available online. Through Search engines we can easily access this information
with the help of Search engine indexing. To facilitate fast and accurate information retrieval search
engine indexing collects, parses, and store data. This paper explains partitioning clustering
technique for implementing indexing phase of search engine. Clustering techniques are widely
used for grouping a set of objects in such a way that objects in the same group are more to each
other than to those in other groups in Web Usage Mining . Clustering methods are largely divided
into two groups: hierarchical and partitioning methods. This paper proposes the k mean partitioning
method of clustering and also provide a comparison of k mean clustering and Single link HAC .
Performance of these clustering techniques are compared according to the execution time based on
no of clusters and no of data items being entered. Keyword:Indexing,Data mining, clustering k
Means Clustering, Single Link HAC I.INTRODUCTION Keeping in mind the end goal to
encourage quick and precise data recovery, Search engine indexing gathers, parses, and stores
information. As the Web continues growing, the quantity of pages filed in a web crawler
increments correspondingly. With such a substantial volume of information, finding applicable data

The Domestication of Animals Was the Percursor to Genetic...
The domestication of animals 30,000 years ago was the precursor to Genetic Engineering.
Starting with the dog we have since been able to introduce desirable traits in all organisms. With
the discovery of plasmids in the late 60 s we have been able to take genetic engineering even
further. Plasmids are small circular DNAmolecules used to amplify and replicate a gene of interest.
These minute molecules have the ability to replicate with the chromosome or independently,
allowing them to have up to a 100 copies in one cell. Plasmids are important because of their
characteristics to transfer genes that occur naturally within them or acting as a vector to introduce
foreign DNA into a host cell. With the use of plasmids genetic engineers are able to use bacterial
transformation to make medicines. Bacterial transformation is the process in which a bacterial cell
takes up foreign DNA and incorporates this DNA into its own. With the use bacterial transformation
this part of Genetic Engineering has become the most important and widely used technique,
creating life saving antibiotics and medicines. E.coli is generally used in these procedures because
of its ability to adapt and grow exponentially. Genetic Engineers can then use large bacterial
colonies, Ampicillin, and X gal to indicate if b glactosidase is present along with identifying the
recombinant and non recombinant colonies. The transformed bacteriathat contains ampicillin will
spread and survive either turning white

The Wild West Of America
THE WILD WEST OF AMERICA The Wild West of America, or what historian referred to as the
Old West, since the 1800 s men and women all wanted to move to the west to start a new life,
have land, find gold and silver ,and to escape the law hence the Wild West. The West of the U.S.
started off from the west of the Mississippi all the way to the west coast. With all the open land
and the people in the west, legends and stories are being made throughout time, and these stories are
for the future generation to hear about the adventurous time of the Wild Wild West. From the
beginning of time, people have told stories of their adventures, survival, the crazy gunfights, and the
danger they been through in the west. Most of these stories and tales starts off at campfires, where
is told to friends and families about their experience. Sometimes these tales were true, others
exaggerations, and occasionally nothing more than some crazy tales which seems too good or too
outrageous to be true. The more interesting part of these tales were passed along from friends to
friends and from one generation to the next, and along the way the tales grows stronger to the point
they became legends and urban myths. With all the story tellings through the years, it becomes a
small part of history and then in popular culture. Where it turns into music, dance, movies, tv
shows, and cultures. For two centuries the Wild West was molded into the american s culture that

Rhetorical Analysis of Building a Bridge Between Engineering and the Humanities
On February 14, 2016, the Chronicle of Higher Education published an essay by Julio M. Ottino
and Gary Saul Morson entitled Building a Bridge Between Engineering and the Humanities. Ottino
and Morson discuss the importance of the fields of engineering and the humanities. The purpose of
the essay is to show how engineering and the humanities are linked together and are needed
simultaneously. Even though, Morson and Ottino adopt a weak informal tone in the middle of their
argument; the authors end their argument strong by successfully using ethos and logos to appeal to
their audience, college and university faculty and administrators.
Ottino and Morson begin with an introduction of the topic of engineering and humanities. The
authors use a jovial tone to portray the current engineering field as booming and an essential part of
innovation. They use the appeal of logos to convey the current issues with humanities programs by
suggesting, The humanities, by contrast, are in peril, with fewer students each year. Morson and
Ottino show the current state of both the engineering and humanities fields in order to emanate a
sense of urgency to the reader. This introduction shows that there is a need to fix the humanities
field because it is slowly decreasing to nothing. Most college and university faculty know the
current state of the humanities field. However, Ottino and Morson start their

Personal Narrative-Desalinating Ocean Water
My phone buzzed, it was a notification from my Crossword Puzzle app. They had just uploaded
two new ones. The time read 4:32 AM. I was up all night pondering what Neville Longbottom
would have done if he were the Chosen One instead of Harry. I mean, Neville had genuinely
proved himself in The Order of The Phoenix. By the time that I d decided that Neville would
have been a worthy opponent to He Who Must Not be named , the sunlight was peering through
my window. 5:38 AM time to get up for school. The boiling hot water erupting from the shower
head reminds me of the drought in California. As I stand under the pouring water I wonder why
they have not yet tried fog catchers to harvest the water. Desalinating ocean water is an even
more probable solution to their issue. But right now breakfast is my more pressing problem.
Consuming my blueberry oatmeal is a very heinous task yet it goes down easier alongside Scott
Fitzgerald s This Side of Paradise. As the 80 bus lurches forward marking the 40 minute journey to

Innovation Through Source Analysis For The Classroom
Innovation through Source Analysis If teachers want to revolutionize the way that history or social
studies is taught in the classroom, they must move away from the idea that history is a series of
facts that need to be taught to students. Instead of simply giving students the answers to historical
questions, teachers must impart the practice of historical inquiry to their students. This ability to
think like a historian allows students to be active participants in all history lessons. Such a
revolutionary transformation is only possible if teachers generate innovative lessons that propagate
historical analysis in the classroom. At the same time, teachers are expected to adhere to the
Common Core standards that require students to be able to read, understand, and utilize complex
informational texts (80). In order to transform history in the classroom and adhere to these
Common Core Standards, it is important that teachers understand the importance of source analysis
in lessons, know how to choose and create age appropriate adapted sources, and successfully
incorporate such lessons into larger units that ensure students learn to think historically. To ensure
that students are able to engage in the practices utilized by historians, teachers must provide
students with the proper tools to do so. Since historical thinking takes practice, students need
materials to practice with. Primary sourcesoffer the perfect opportunity for such practice. In fact,

Adversity In Lorraine Hansberry s A Raisin In The Sun
People constantly determine that hardships prepare them for an anomalous triumph and that
without adversity they will not have the strength to excel. However, in trying to achieve
adversity people damage their psychological well being, just like the Tuskegee Airmen who
faced racial discrimination for serving their country. Although this may be true, the Roman poet
Horace elucidates that Adversity has the effect of eliciting talents which in prosperous
circumstances would have lain dormant . This is often exemplified in A Raisin in the Sun and
through Cristian Mariano Deppeler. To initiate, if it wasn t for the hardships that adversity
exposes people to, then many would not see meaning in their life, and in some cases, end up
putting and end to it. For instance, the story of Cristian Mariano Deppeler, a social
communicator that is known today for his video on YouTube in which he shocked the world and
affirmed that he is not disabled . Even though the doctors said that Deppeler was going to be a

Homeless Children In Latin America
PHL 214 Final paper Amanda Calarco Southern New Hampshire University Approximately 40
million homeless children in the streets of urban Latin America are left with no other option than
to resort to aggressive panhandling, theft and violence as they fight to survive in an unsympathetic
society that completely lacks any supportive programs. These children are viewed as a problem
and every night thousands of them are hunted down by organized vigilantes as well as mercenary
off duty and retired policemen. This viciousness is mostly promoted by the middle class, which
sponsors the elimination of street children as a way to make the streets safe. In Brazil for example,
these homeless children are murdered by death squads paid for by the local businessmen and is
even supported in some areas of the media. The affluent nations of the world should make funds
available to Latin American countries that are earmarked for the care of street children. The
principle is that any county that tolerates the annihilation of its homeless children is not a country
that is worth receiving international support. This threat of economic sanctions on Latin America
which has large and growing business sectors, would be an effective tool in furthering human rights
for the homeless children in Latin American nations.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unless these systems are amended, the street child phenomenon will not subside. As seen in United
Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child these street children have a right to safety, shelter,
nutrition, education and health care. For this reason, the affluent nations of the world have an
obligation to design and implement relevant and functional forms of intervention. The annihilation
of street children needs to be seen by the international community as an ideology that seeks to
demonize a despised layer of society in order to justify its extirpation.

Recent estimates show that almost 215 million individuals worldwide suffer from diabetes and
80 90% of them suffer from type 2 diabetes (Narender et al., 2006). The sedentary lifestyle of
increased intake of high calorie food along with decreased energy usage contributes to the
present growing prevalence of type 2 diabetes and obesity (Aude et al., 2004). According to
recent epidemiological studies, approximately 90% of all the people with type 2 diabetes are or
have been overweight, and signified that obesity is a major cause and risk factor of type 2
diabetes and related metabolic disturbances (Bray and Bellanger, 2006; Kahn et al., 2006). To
decrease complications and negative consequence of metabolic syndrome, the control of blood
glucose and lipids is necessary (Moller, 2001). The currently existing therapeutic choices such as
dietary modification or a combination of synthetic hypolipidaemic, antidiabetic drugs have their
own limits and undesirable side effects (Lender, D. and S.K. Sysko, 2006). Because of this, new
medicinal agents with properties on monitoring both lipids and blood glucose are in excessive
demand (Nammi et al., 2009).

  • 2. Forensics of Blood Forensics of Blood Blood evidence is the most common, most recognized and possibly most important evidence in the world of criminal justice. Throughout the history of violent and fatal crimes, bloodstain evidence has recently begun to emerge as a recognized forensic skill. Blood is one of the most significant and frequently encountered types of physical evidence associated with forensic investigation of death and violent crime (Eckert amp; James, 11). When a violent crime has been committed, bloodis commonly left behind at the scene of the crime. This blood evidence allows police investigators to piece together the events of the crime. The texture, size, shape, and distribution of the blood can be used to determine when the crime... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After spraying luminol, in a darkened room, the luminol will react with the iron in the hemoglobin of the blood which catalyzes the luminescence. This reaction causes the emission of a blue glow lasting for approximately 30 seconds. Although luminol is useful in detecting small traces of blood, there are some disadvantages to using it. One disadvantage is the sensitivity of the solution and the blood itself. 75 years ago, luminol was introduced to the forensic field as a blood search technique. Since its introduction, much investigation has been done to enhance the solution in order to get a longer and more intense/brighter luminescence reaction with the blood. Besides the importance of the pH level of the solution, most of these investigations came to the conclusion that adding more chemicals and/or solution enhances the brightness and duration of the reaction. However, this process also potentially damages the DNA and bloodstain pattern itself. Up till now, hardly any investigation has been done into the enhancement of the catalyst in this reaction process: the blood (haemoglobin) itself (Eversdijk, 12). The chemiluminescence of luminol can occasionally be activated by compounds containing copper, bleaching chemicals, animal blood, fecal matter, semen, and even saliva. To determine if a substance is blood, forensic investigators can perform other tests. The Kastle Meyer test is another ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. My Totem Pole Essay My Totem Pole A totem pole is a tall log carved mainly by the indigenous people of Alaska and British Columbia. The poles tell stories that have been passed down from generation to generation as legends and myths. However, that is not the only type of totem pole, there are totems that tell the carver s history, their family s history and some are even used to honor the dead. Additionally, some totem poles were made to show respect to an important tribal member. Totem poles feature animals and symbols, chosen by the carver to represent themselves, another person, or an event. I have chosen to construct a totem poleto represent my qualities and personality. My totem pole will feature a deer, a fox, a monkey, and a cat. For my first totem animal, I have chosen the deer. I chose this animal because I am quiet when I am around people I don t know. Also, the deer is said to be helpful and not knowingly hurt anything, well, I try to be helpful and I don t try to hurt anybody that I care about. • 4. Animal Farm Ignorance Is Bliss Ignorance is bliss is a common phrase that has been adapted to our daily conversation. This phrase is by Thomas Gray in the poem, Ode on a Distant Prospect of Eton College. What Gray means is sometimes when one is not aware of what is happening around them, they are happier than if they were. Thomas Gray goes on to say, Tis folly to be wise. This goes back to what is said earlier, that people can be in a worse state if they are aware of their surroundings. In the book, Animal Farm, written by George Orwell, there are some examples of the saying by Gray in the story. One instance when the phrase is illustrated is with Boxer. The horse worked and worked day in and day out. He didn t care what the politics were on the farm. He stayed loyal to the farm and he was as happy as he could get. In Animal Farm, it says, He adopted the maxim, Napoleon is always right, in addition to his private motto of I will work harder (Orwell 56). This example proves that Boxer is easily swayed and doesn t have a definite opinion of the state of the leadership. However, Boxer truly believes he is happy with his position and doesn t waiver in his beliefs. The other ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Maycomb County was impacted by the Great Depression, mostly because it was a small community based town. In Harper Lee s, To Kill a Mockingbird, the Great Depressionplayed a considerable role in the setting, theme, and characters. The Great Depression seemed to engulf smaller cities much faster than it did the bigger cities. Some people through the story left the town with hopes of finding a better life elsewhere. According to Lee, John Finch, Atticus brother, commuted to a bigger city because cotton could not be grown in Maycomb (Lee 5). Therefore, the people that stayed in Maycomb faced challenging times. The people are very home oriented; whereas they are willing to face tragedies just to stay in their home town with the people that they love. This aspect of the book is very important. The people of Maycomb are so close. Maycomb County came together when the whole world seemed to come to a halt during the Depression. The setting, theme, and characters were most affected by the Great Depression. The small town of Maycomb stood together through the worst of times. • 8. Tolerance In To Kill A Mockingbird As much as people try to avoid it, fact is that no one in this world is born equal; there is always something unique that sets one different from another. It is those differences that require us, as Barbara Jordon says, to accept people who are different that ourselves. Jordan emphasizes the importance of tolerance and how it helps us develop into better societies and people. During the 1930 s, different races in the United States were being discriminated against their skin tone and placed on separate levels. In more modern times, people were still being criticized for having different ideas and while acting upon them. Even all the way in Iraq, discriminationis presented once again towards Jews and their independent country. Anything contrasting oneself will never be the same as he or she would like, creating a necessity to tolerate. Barbara Jordan s quote helps reveal that tolerance is essential to avoid conflict, to unite with others, and to change for the better. The award winning novel To Kill a Mockingbird, written by Harper Lee, teaches through the eyes of a young girl that problems originated from intolerance. Atticus, a man defending a negro, poses to the jury the idea why the case is unfair. He argues that The state has not produced one iota of medical evidence proving Tom guilty and in turn has relied instead upon the testimony of two witnesses , whose claims have been flatly contradicted by the defendant (Lee 271). A Comparison of Brave New World and Blade Runner Essay A Comparison of Brave New World and Blade Runner In the worlds of the narrative text Brave New World (1932), composed by Aldous Huxley and the visual text Blade Runner (Director s Cut) (1992), directed by Ridley Scott, perhaps the most significant thematic concern is that of the intervention into the natural order by elitist human forces. Responders are confronted with stark, forlorn visions of a future that has alienated the natural environment from humanity, creating a society of moral destitution, in which its inhabitants are substantially lacking as human beings. • 12. Inequality in To Kill a Mockingbird One of the major themes of To Kill a Mockingbird is the divisions in human society and how those cause inquality among people. Even though most people know that they shouldn t judge others, it s human nature, and because of this, it causes different sections of society. Most of the characters experience this throughout the novel. In To Kill a Mockingbird, certain divisions in society cause inequality in the town of Maycomb, and the characters and the reader both learn important lessons. When unequal divides in society form, the person or group of people that are looked down upon don t get the respect that they should. In Maycomb, anyone different from the traditional southern ways gets the short end of the stick. Raceis an obvious division in the society of Maycomb. White people are automatically thought of as good people, while African Americans do not get accepted. The people of Maycomb seem to think that there s something not right about black people, just because that s not traditional in the south. Tradition states that white people are better than black people without a question, and we can see through name calling and the unfair trail that many people in Maycomb still hold on to this tradition. They don t even think that African Americans deserve to associate with whites hardly at all. Examples of characters experiencing this divide are Atticus and Tom. It is quite imperative to state both a null hypothesis and an alternative hypothesis when conducting a hypothesis test because the hypotheses are mutually exclusive and if one statement is true then the other is proven as false. According to Mirabella (2011, p. 4 1) states that, When we have a theory about a parameter (the average is...,the proportion is....,etc), we can test that theory via a hypothesis test. Therefore, that is what we have used to determine if the average age of Whatsamatta U MBA students is less than 45. We have to conduct a one sample hypothesis test to prove if we can accept or reject the null hypothesis. In order to determine what decision rule, which is the statement that tells under which condition to reject the null hypothesis, to propose we must first determine if we are instituting a upper tailed, lower tailed, or two tailed test. There are many steps used when initiating a hypothesis test. First and foremost it is vital to specify the null and alternative hypothesis, next we have to determine a significance level that is tolerable such as 0.05 which is your tolerance for error, and last we have to calculate the statistic that is comparable to the parameters set by the null hypothesis. The distance between the smutty and the erotic is precisely the distance between Western culture and Hawaiian culture (Trask, 191). Among military men, the mere act of cultural and sexual expression is translated into pleasurable entertainment for the male consumer. In turn, the cost of turning hula dancing into accessible entertainment allows military men to establish their superiority and dominance by marginalizing Hawaiian women who are seen as weak and submissive entertainers. When she was young, she read many books and received a great education from her father. At the age of 14, she was selected to be Emperor Taizhong s Cai Ren because she was beauty and intelligence. Her most glorious title was that she was the only female emperor in Chinese history who rule the country for almost half a century. She used murder and treachery to become Empress of China. Considering the events of her life, literary allusions to Wu Zetian can carry several connotations: a woman who has inappropriately overstepped her bounds, the hypocrisy of preaching compassion while simultaneously engaging in a pattern of corrupt and vicious behavior, and ruling by pulling strings in the background. For many centuries, Wu was used by the Chinese establishment as an example of what can go wrong when a woman is placed in charge. Reflection Paper On Weight When I was in high school I was one of the smallest member in all of my classes, I joined the cross country team and was among one of the fastest runners in my school but after I graduated I had a new goal to gain weight and put an ending to just skin and bones. To begin with, I chose to achieve gaining ten pounds in the four weeks of my psychology class. The reason why I chose this is because all my life I have struggled to gainweight, I would go through tubs of protein and eat whatever my heart desired and I would always stay the same weight. After joining the military I was able to plan out my meals and with the exceeded workout plans every day I was able to put some weight on my body, but yet my metabolismwas still too fast and I would rapidly lose the weight I had worked so hard to gain. My metabolism was so fast I even considered too stop exorcising and ate junk food for a whole month but quickly realized that was not the right route to go. Starting my weight gaining goal for these four week project helped me get back into the rhythm I had once lost. The first week was the hardest, I had to go back and reorganize how I lived my day to day life. First I had to relearn all about nutrition and what foods would help me achieve my ten pound goal by the end of the four weeks. Essay about The Effect of Highspeed Trains on Society The Effect of Highspeed Trains on Society A major reason in favor of the construction of high speed trains in America is to relieve airways and traffic congestion. First, delays at airports are costly. Larry Johnson, director of the Center for transportation Research at Argonne National Laboratory near Chicago, calculates that passengers lose more that twelve million hours each year in delays at O Hare airport alone. In 1986, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) airlines, delays cost five billion dollars, including two billion in extra fuel and labor cost, for the ailing airline industry. According to the FAA, relieving airport congestion will cost one hundred and seventeen billion over the next decade (Mobey 14).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the next twenty years, this insidious tax is projected to nearly double (Mallinckarodt p1). Bill Fay said, Cars stuck in traffic waste more fuel and emit more pollutants than cars that are moving (Dahl 4). High occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes are one of the primary tools used to reduce traffic congestion on the state highway system and improve air quality ( HOV Lanes in California #8230; p1). The usual goal of HOV lane restrictions is to provide overall congestion, and emissions reduction (Mallinckdet. p 1). However, in recent years, HOV lanes effectiveness in achieving these goals has come in to question ( HOV Lanes in California #8230; p1). When drivers use a highway, they do not pay the cost that they may be imposing on other drivers. Ideally, traffic should flow smoothly at the speed limit. However, as traffic increases, eventually the addition of one more vehicle will slow the flow and increase the travel time of other vehicles. At this point congestion (the negative externality) begins (Dahl p4). Sen Daniel Patrick Moynihan said, The train technology, offers great opportunities to reduce congestion in our surface and air transportation system (Clough 9). Thus building high speed trains would aid the problem of increasing congestion at America s airports and on the highways. Those who argue against high speed trains cite their ... My statements and reviews are as follows: Introduction to the movie. Apart from pre teaching a list of new words and phrases in a film, EFL teachers should give their students a small introduction to the movie just before watching in class. Some offered this proposal like Bueno (2009), He (Altman, 1989) cautioned that instructors must provide background information when film genres do not include explicit information regarding the systems of culture and thus the nonnative viewer lacks the cultural context needed to interpret a scene (p. 320). According to Wang and Liu (2011), Before the movie watching, brainstorming the students with words according to their subject, this would diverse their thinking, activate their vocabulary schema, and compensate each other (p. 44). In Giovanni s Room, we encounter a young man, David, who battles with his sexuality throughout his life, even in cultures more openly accepting than his native Brooklyn. The bends of his limbs are very natural, and the attention to detail exemplifies Donatello s understanding of human anatomy. A closer look at the sculpture, however, reveals the details that set it apart from other works of the master. Donatello, considered a master of the nude, cared little to produce them in his sculptures. David, an exception to his previous work, would be completely naked if not for his boots and hat. I also will discuss information from two articles which focus in on the direct affects that the disease takes on women living with it, and the lifestyle changes that are necessary to manage the symptoms. Celiac disease is seen in about 1 2% of the population, with a 2:1 woman to men ratio (Lisa Ring Jacobsson, 2011). I choose this topic because celiac disease and gluten free diets seem to be on the rise. In the past, the diet and lifestyle changes for people with celiac disease was very challenging, but in recent years there has been an increase in the amount of people being diagnosed with celiac disease. There is much more information out there about these special diets. Life has become much easier for those with celiac ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 41. The Role Of The Doctrine Of Precedent The purpose of this essay focus on the important role of the doctrine of precedent in Australia legal system. The doctrine of precedent, in a simple words, is the principle that binds the common law together. As a general rule it means the courts were bound to follow the decisions of all courts superior to it in its own court hierarchy. This paper is divided into four parts. The first part mentions a background of the topic, the second part concentrates on analyzing the principle as well as the advantages and disadvantages of the doctrine of precedent. Finally the conclusion sums up the outcome of the research. The doctrine of precedent, as mentioned, was settled in the nineteenth century. Before that, precedents were considered to be ... A further question that arise is when the High Court of Australia and the Supreme Court of Victoria will depart from their previous decisions. First of all, the High Court of Australia will normally follow its own earlier decisions and will depart from them if there is a strong reason to do so. In the case in which the High Court did not follow its own previous decision, it said that: while stare decisis is a sound policy because it promotes predictability of judicial decision and facilitates the giving of advice, it should not always trump the need for desirable change in the law especially we would add if the change is necessary to maintain a better connection with more fundamental doctrines and principle . For example, in the case of Imbree v McNeilly (2008) 249 ALR 647 7, the decision of the previous case named Cook v Cook (1986) 162 CLR 376 8 was no longer a good law to be follow therefore the court decided to overruled this previous case. Conversely, a court of appeal will normally follow its own previous decision and the situations that it determines not to do so will be rare. For instant, the Victorian Court of Appeal only depart from its own previous decision where it is convinced that the decision is clearly, or plainly, wrong 9. In the case of ... Through Search engines we can easily access this information with the help of Search engine indexing. To facilitate fast and accurate information retrieval search engine indexing collects, parses, and store data. This paper explains partitioning clustering technique for implementing indexing phase of search engine. Clustering techniques are widely used for grouping a set of objects in such a way that objects in the same group are more to each other than to those in other groups in Web Usage Mining . Clustering methods are largely divided into two groups: hierarchical and partitioning methods. This paper proposes the k mean partitioning method of clustering and also provide a comparison of k mean clustering and Single link HAC . Performance of these clustering techniques are compared according to the execution time based on no of clusters and no of data items being entered. • 45. The Domestication of Animals Was the Percursor to Genetic... The domestication of animals 30,000 years ago was the precursor to Genetic Engineering. Starting with the dog we have since been able to introduce desirable traits in all organisms. With the discovery of plasmids in the late 60 s we have been able to take genetic engineering even further. Plasmids are small circular DNAmolecules used to amplify and replicate a gene of interest. These minute molecules have the ability to replicate with the chromosome or independently, allowing them to have up to a 100 copies in one cell. Plasmids are important because of their characteristics to transfer genes that occur naturally within them or acting as a vector to introduce foreign DNA into a host cell. With the use of plasmids genetic engineers are able to use bacterial transformation to make medicines. Bacterial transformation is the process in which a bacterial cell takes up foreign DNA and incorporates this DNA into its own. With the use bacterial transformation this part of Genetic Engineering has become the most important and widely used technique, creating life saving antibiotics and medicines. E.coli is generally used in these procedures because of its ability to adapt and grow exponentially. Genetic Engineers can then use large bacterial colonies, Ampicillin, and X gal to indicate if b glactosidase is present along with identifying the recombinant and non recombinant colonies. The transformed bacteriathat contains ampicillin will spread and survive either turning white ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Rhetorical Analysis of Building a Bridge Between Engineering and the Humanities On February 14, 2016, the Chronicle of Higher Education published an essay by Julio M. Ottino and Gary Saul Morson entitled Building a Bridge Between Engineering and the Humanities. Ottino and Morson discuss the importance of the fields of engineering and the humanities. The purpose of the essay is to show how engineering and the humanities are linked together and are needed simultaneously. Even though, Morson and Ottino adopt a weak informal tone in the middle of their argument; the authors end their argument strong by successfully using ethos and logos to appeal to their audience, college and university faculty and administrators. Ottino and Morson begin with an introduction of the topic of engineering and humanities. The authors use a jovial tone to portray the current engineering field as booming and an essential part of innovation. They use the appeal of logos to convey the current issues with humanities programs by suggesting, The humanities, by contrast, are in peril, with fewer students each year. Morson and Ottino show the current state of both the engineering and humanities fields in order to emanate a sense of urgency to the reader. This introduction shows that there is a need to fix the humanities field because it is slowly decreasing to nothing. • 50. Innovation Through Source Analysis For The Classroom Innovation through Source Analysis If teachers want to revolutionize the way that history or social studies is taught in the classroom, they must move away from the idea that history is a series of facts that need to be taught to students. Instead of simply giving students the answers to historical questions, teachers must impart the practice of historical inquiry to their students. This ability to think like a historian allows students to be active participants in all history lessons. Such a revolutionary transformation is only possible if teachers generate innovative lessons that propagate historical analysis in the classroom. At the same time, teachers are expected to adhere to the Common Core standards that require students to be able to read, understand, and utilize complex informational texts (80). In order to transform history in the classroom and adhere to these Common Core Standards, it is important that teachers understand the importance of source analysis in lessons, know how to choose and create age appropriate adapted sources, and successfully incorporate such lessons into larger units that ensure students learn to think historically. To ensure that students are able to engage in the practices utilized by historians, teachers must provide students with the proper tools to do so. Since historical thinking takes practice, students need materials to practice with. Primary sourcesoffer the perfect opportunity for such practice. In fact, according to ... • 53. Homeless Children In Latin America PHL 214 Final paper Amanda Calarco Southern New Hampshire University Approximately 40 million homeless children in the streets of urban Latin America are left with no other option than to resort to aggressive panhandling, theft and violence as they fight to survive in an unsympathetic society that completely lacks any supportive programs. These children are viewed as a problem and every night thousands of them are hunted down by organized vigilantes as well as mercenary off duty and retired policemen. This viciousness is mostly promoted by the middle class, which sponsors the elimination of street children as a way to make the streets safe. In Brazil for example, these homeless children are murdered by death squads paid for by the local businessmen and is even supported in some areas of the media. The affluent nations of the world should make funds available to Latin American countries that are earmarked for the care of street children. The principle is that any county that tolerates the annihilation of its homeless children is not a country that is worth receiving international support. This threat of economic sanctions on Latin America which has large and growing business sectors, would be an effective tool in furthering human rights for the homeless children in Latin American nations.... The sedentary lifestyle of increased intake of high calorie food along with decreased energy usage contributes to the present growing prevalence of type 2 diabetes and obesity (Aude et al., 2004).
