In 1653, Boston instituted multiple codes which equipped buildings with firefighting tools and a

An argument form that is both common and defective; a recurring mistake in reasoning
(Vaughn, 561). Fallacies can be found in many places whether it is in the media, the workplace,
or around your peers. Some fallacies contain the truth while others at a time can be false or
misleading. It is essential to be able to identify fallacies because they can be used in many ways,
some good some bad. Fallacies are used every day, whether it is to influence someone s opinion to
agree with one side of an argumentrather than the other or to draw in others by appealing to their
emotions or authority. Today, I will be discussing three important fallacies and give examples of
each. These fallacies include Genetic Fallacy, Ad Hominem, and Appeal to Tradition.
As stated by Vaughn, a Genetic Fallacy is the fallacy of arguing that a claim is true or false
solely because of its abstract or nonhuman origins (Vaughn, 561). Instead of looking into what
someone is actually implying is valid, the source gets attacked. It does not matter whether it is an
organization or a single person their reasoning is being invalidated simply because of their origin.

parts the North and Middle Forks, the South Fork, and the Lower American River downstream from
Folsom Lake (fig. 1). These major forks and Folsom Lake represent a natural and modified system
of streams and impoundments designed to meet the recreational and water supply needs of many
Californians.
The American River basin is generally mountainous except for the small valley area on the west
end between the Sacramento River and Folsom Lake. Altitudes range from about 5 ft near the
confluence with the Sacramento River to 10,380 ft at Round Top Mountain, which overlooks the
Silver Fork American River in the southeast corner of the basin. Basin characteristics for each sub

service at the YMCA. To specify, I was lifting children (when required). Literally lifting or not, the

from time to time. This idea is exemplified in service learning where both the individual and the

volunteered at the Kid Zone in the St. Cloud YMCA and gained real world knowledge while helping
