Essay Water Conservation
Writing an essay on water conservation is both challenging and rewarding. The difficulty lies not
only in articulating thoughts coherently but also in addressing the complexities of a topic that
intersects various scientific, environmental, and social aspects.
One of the primary challenges is striking the right balance between scientific facts and engaging
storytelling. Water conservation involves a multitude of factors such as the hydrological cycle,
climate change, human behavior, and policy implications. Crafting an essay that integrates these
elements seamlessly requires in-depth research and a nuanced understanding of the subject
matter.
Furthermore, the need for clarity and persuasiveness adds another layer of difficulty. Conveying
the importance of water conservation demands a compelling narrative that resonates with
readers. This involves skillfully blending statistics, case studies, and real-world examples to
create a persuasive argument.
In addition, addressing the global nature of the issue makes it imperative to consider regional
disparities and diverse perspectives. Water scarcity and conservation efforts vary across different
geographical locations, necessitating a comprehensive approach that accommodates these
variations.
Moreover, the urgency of the matter requires staying updated with the latest developments and
breakthroughs in water conservation technology and policies. Constantly evolving information
adds a layer of challenge to keeping the essay relevant and insightful.
However, despite these challenges, the process of writing an essay on water conservation can be
highly rewarding. It allows for personal growth by deepening one's understanding of
environmental issues and fostering a sense of responsibility towards sustainable practices.
Crafting a well-researched and thought-provoking essay has the potential to contribute to the
ongoing dialogue surrounding water conservation.
In conclusion, while the task of writing an essay on water conservation is undeniably difficult,
the significance of the topic and the potential positive impact make it a worthwhile endeavor. It
is a journey that not only tests one's research and writing skills but also encourages a deeper
connection to environmental issues that affect us all.

Analysis Of Humor In Angel Puss
The rest of the episode consists of the cat constantly outsmarting Sambo. With a
slight grin on his face, the cat moves the fence a few feet over, tricking Sambo to
enter the wrong house. Now in the house, he easily sneaks up behind Sambo.
Leaning in, he whispers a faint, Boo. Screeching, Sambo jumps out of his skin and
then bolts in the opposite direction. This torture continues for some time and then to
the cat s dismay, the two fall into a lake. The paint quickly washes off, exposing the
cat. Puzzled, Sambo eventually realises he has been duped. Quickly, he gathers his
gun, corners the cat, and shots him five times. With a giant grin on his face Sambo
finally feels relief, but alas, the cat turns into nine real ghosts and begins to... Show

He has a droopy hat riddled with holes and is wearing unbuttoned overalls with fabric
patches, looking like a poor farmboy. Also, he committed a crime against his better
judgement, just to get a few bucks which shows his low economic status. Sambo s
socioeconomic status and appearance encourage feelings of superiority over the
stereotypical poor, unhuman African American.
Additionally, his behavior encourages the poor unintelligent African American
stereotype of the 1930s. Many times he can barely function as a human through the
episode. Normal behaviors that most humans do with ease, like walking and
talking, Sambo struggles with. He takes long strides while methodologically
thinking about each step in his head, and then stumbles with most steps. Moreover,
his speech skills are not to par with normal language abilities of a boy his age. At
the beginning of Angel Puss, his sorrowful song is nearly impossible to understand
with his heavy southern accent coupled with poor grammar. Likewise, his speech
is slow and riddled with stutters, implying that he did not receive a proper
education to speak properly. His inability to do basic human processes dehumanizes
Sambo, making him inferior and easy to laugh at. Later in the episode, Sambo is
running for his life from what he thinks is a ghost. Wanting to mess with Sambo
even more, the cat starts rolling dice in his hands. Sambo hears the dice and begins
to slow down and eventually comes to a

Essay on Jerry Garcia And The Grateful Dead
Jerry Garcia and The Grateful Dead
Jerome John Garcia was born in 1942, in San Francisco s Mission District.
His father, a spanish immigrant named Jose quot;Joe quot; Garcia, had been a jazz
clarinetist and Dixieland bandleader in the thirties, and he named his new son after
his favorite Broadway composer, Jerome Kern. In the spring of 1948, while on a
fishing trip, Garcia saw his father swept to his death by a California river. After his
father s death, Garcia spent a few years living with his mother s parents, in one of
San Francisco s working class districts. His grandmother had the habit of listening to
Nashville s Grand Ole Opry radio broadcasts on Saturday nights, and ... Show more

He was also working part time at Dana Morgan s Music Store, where he met several
of the musicians who would eventually dominate the San Francisco music scene. In
1963 Garcia formed a jug band, Mother McCree s Uptown Jug Champions. Its
lineup included a young folk guitarist named Bob Weir and a blues lover, Ron
McKernan, known to his friends as quot;Pigpen quot; for his often disorderly
appearance. The group played a mix of blues, country, and folk, and Pigpen became
the frontman, singing Jimmy Reed and Lightnin Hopkins tunes.
Then in February 1964, the Beatles made their historic appearance on The
Ed Sullivan Show, and virtually overnight, youth culture was imbued with a new
spirit and sense of identity. Gracia understood the group s promise after seeing its
first film, A Hard Day s Night.
As a result, the folky purism of Mother McCree s all acoustic form began to seem
rather limited and uninteresting to Garcia and many of the other band members, and
before long the ensemble was transformed into the Warlocks. A few dropped out, but
they were soon joined by two more; Bill Kreutzmann, and
Phil Lesh.
It was around this time that Garcia and some of the group s other members also
began an experiment with drugs that would change the nature of the band s story.
Certainly this wasn t the first time drugs had been used in music for artistic

The Outsiders Should Not Be Banned
The Outsiders English teachers in middle schools and high schools have been
through many debates over the years on whether or not a certain book should be
taught to students in United States public schooling systems. The Outsiders, is a
book that should not be on the list of banned books. Believe it or not the book has
been banned from schools and libraries. The Outsiders should not be banned because
it provides valuable life lessons involving loyalty. Books like this one, that involve
gangmembers, fighting, shooting, stabbing and other gory incidents, should be
portrayed to kids in middle schooland beyond. This generation that people are
growing up in nowadays is a weak, soft generation who need to realize that the
world is not always going to be kind to them. The neighborhoods that a lot of kids
live in are safe environments, which is not a bad thing, but they are unaware of the
horrible things that go on in the ghettos or other places in our nation. Books are a
great way to reach out to kids and show them valuable life lessons while also giving
them learning experiences through that English class they are enrolled in. The
author of this novel, The Outsiders, Susan Eloise Hinton, is a very popular author
of young adult fiction stories and she is especially popular in the Oklahoma area
because she makes the setting in a lot of her books from that area. She wrote the
books That Was Then, This Is Now, Rumble Fish, Tex, and Taming The Star Runner.

Relationship Between Language And Diglossia
Language is used by different people in various situations. As an aspect of study of
the relationships between codes and social structure, diglossia is an important
concept in the field of sociolinguistics. The term diglossia refers to a situation in
which two dialects are used by a single language community.
As an aspect of study of the relationships between codes and social structure, diglossia
is an important concept in the field of sociolinguistics. At the social level, each of the
two dialects has certain spheres of social interaction assigned to it and in the
assigned spheres it is the only socially acceptable dialect (with minor exceptions). At
the grammatical level, differences may involve pronunciation, inflection, and/or
syntax (sentence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Certain circumstances imply the use of one of the codes, language A, to the
exclusion of the other, language B, which can only be used in situations from which
the first language is excluded. This definition comprises many variations, however.
Although there are diglossic situations in a way in the majority of societies, for
example in Britain, there is a contrast between the English used in exchanges
between friends or while shopping and that used in university lectures or at public
conferences, it must be emphasized that the preferred use of this term is in reference
to societies in which the contrast is particularly marked and often backed up by the
recourse to two distinct reference terms for the varieties in use (for example, French
/creole in the majority of French creole speaking areas). Generally, these diglossic
situations are situations of language conflict whereby one of the languages is termed
the high variety in contrast to the other which is considered low with the former
being used in communication situations considered noble (writing, formal usage, and
so on) and the latter being used in more informal circumstances (conversations with
close family etc.). Speakers have sometimes been known to question whether this
second variety is, in fact, a real
An earthquake occurs when there is a shaking of the
Earth,...
An earthquake occurs when there is a shaking of the Earth, caused by a buildup of
energy in volcanic or tectonic form ( Earthquakes ). Essentially, an earthquake results
from sections of the Earth moving, causing slippage. When two chunks of the Earth
slip past each other, the point at which this happens is called the fault plane. In fact,
an earthquakebegins in the hypocenter beneath the Earth s surface. Next, located right
above the hypocenter is the epicenter (Wald). And finally, the main, and most
important thing to remember about earthquakes is that they are random, and
extremely hard to predict ( Earthquakes ).
Earthquakes happen when two tectonic plates touch each other. When those plates
experience tension and friction, they lock ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, a significant earthquake can develop with a magnitude reading 7.0 or
higher, and it in fact does happen from time to time ( Earthquakes ).
The third type of earthquake can be described as a volcanic earthquake. A volcanic
earthquake begins to form when magma is contained within the under most part of a
volcano. When the magma travels to the surface, it can break the rocks it flows
through, in turn causing an earthquake. As intense as it sounds, earthquakes resulting
from a volcano only produce a magnitude of around 5.0. An event called volcanic
tremor can also be an outcome of the magma collected frequently, before a volcanic
earthquake emerges. As the magma moves around, vibrations are given off, leading
to volcanic tremors ( Earthquakes ).
Among many events, earthquakes can cause landslides. When a landslide does
happen as a result of an earthquake, they are shallow, and rock and soil are
disturbed when falling. But even so, when a larger landslide occurs, which is not
often, it still adds to the amount of the landslide. Earthquake magnitude has relations
with where a landslide happens, the distance of the landslide, and the landslide
volume. Unfortunately, it has been found that landslides caused by earthquakes add
to the decrease in landscapes (Jibson, 2013). However, regardless of the situation,
there will always be factors that affect how much damage is done as a consequence
Essay on Histology Tissue Tracking
Software and hardware systems are the main source of how companies are ran today.
To remain influential in today s markets, businesses must remain flexible, and
technology integrated. The implications of not acquiring up to date technology may
be the demise of a company as a whole. While remaining technology up to date can
cut cost, and implement the highest productivity of a company helping insure

The change in quality delivered, and the legality of improper diagnosis was highly
considered when creating a complete tissue tracking system, consequently creating a
computerized beginning to end electronically embedded tissue tracking system.
Smart software was installed into the Lab assistant existing PC s within the
department, programmed to interface with an electronic cassette patient information
embedding machine. As patient information was retrieved singularly from the
implemented program, the specimen count, type, source, and patients name is
verified by the lab assistant, and then accepted or denied. If accepted, the cassette
embedding machine would then electronically embed the cassette with a barcode,
and a number specific to that patient, and their tissue type. The patients name, birth
date, case number, and tissue type would be printed onto a label to be placed on the
patient s requisition. While another set of labels would be printed for each specimen
and part type then placed on the patient s specimen container. After this process was
completed the tissue and cassettes would then be given to the gross technician for
dissection, and description. The gross technician upon receipt would scan the label on
the requisition, pulling up the patient s information, scan the cassette in which the
gross technician would like to place the tissue into, and lastly scanning the specimen

Self Esteem And Self-Esteem
Self esteem, also known as self respect, is the confidence in one s worth or
abilities. Low self esteem is the opposite or lack of confidence in one s own worth.
Self esteem is shaped throughout one s life, it will increase and decrease throughout
life but with essentially remain at the same level. Self esteemhas both positive and
negative affects depending on if an individual has low or high self esteem. There
is more research on the effects of low self esteem because it usually has to most
negative effects on someone s health. Self respect can also influence one s decision
making, people with low self esteem generally make poor or unwise decisions due
to lack of confidence. Bullying can be caused by low self esteem or causes the
development of low self esteem. Someone who does not have high levels of self
confidence may try and belittle others to feel better about themselves; being
bullied can in turn cause someone to feel bad about themselves, therefore, causing
low self esteem. Ultimately, low self esteem has been known to negatively affect
someone s health, it can cause anxiety, depression, or lead to drug usage. Self
esteem has been studied for decades, by focusing on the development, self imagery,
effect on decision making, bullying, and the negative effects that follow the high
or low levels of self esteem we are able to unravel how self esteem effects our lives
and how we can change our own self esteem. In a research article, done by Ulrich

The Seriousness of in Shakespeare s Comedy of Errors...
The Seriousness of The Comedy of Errors
The Comedy of Errors has often been dismissed as a mere farce, unworthy of any
serious attention. Yet, when the author is Shakespeare, even a farce is well worth a
second look. Shakespeare himself may have takent his comedic work quite seriously,
for audiences expected comedy of his day not only to entertain, but also to morally
instruct. It is not surprising, therefore, that for one of his earliest comedies,
Shakespeare found a model in the plays of Plautus and Terence, which were studied
in all Elizabethan Grammar Schools, praised by schoolmasters, and critically
respectable. (Muir 3)
The Menaechmi was the first Plautus play to appear in translation, and was a popular

The scholarly use of the classic comedies came not without controversy. These texts
became well marked sites of ideological struggle (4). Not every educator was
convinced that the works of these playwrights, who display so zestfully lust, avarice,
and deceit (4) were suitable for impressionable young students. Yet others, pointing
out such edifying cases as Messenio warning his master about the peril of fallen
women in The Menaechmi (Riehle 34), emphasized the moral utility of the texts
(Muir 4 5). One Sir Thomas Elyot argued eloquently that the comedies were
a picture or as it were a mirrour of man s life, wherein iuell is nat taught but
discouered; to the intent that men beholdynge the promptnes of youth into vice, the
snares of harlotts and baudes laide for yonge myndes, the disceipts of seruantes, the
chaunces of fortune contrary to mennes expectation, they being thereof warned may
prepare them selfe to resist or preuente occasion. Semblably remembring the
wisedomes, aduertisements, consailes, dissuasion from vice, and other profitable
sentences, most eloquently and familiarely shewed in those comedies, undoubtedly
there shall be no little frute out of them gathered.
The works of Plautus and Terence were considered just as useful as dramatic models
as they were academic primers. Renaissance critics felt that comedy, as well as
tragedy, should mingle moral instruction with delight (Muir 3). As the inheritors of a
Feral Child Research Paper
A feral child or a wild child is defined as a human child who has been isolated from
human interaction from an early age, where they have a slight or no experience of
human care, contact, or no understanding of human languages. Feral children have
also been constrained by people in some cases, including their own parents or
guardians. This form of neglection was due to the parent s denial of care and
affection towards the child. Feral children normally exhibit some form of common
behavior due to their lack of human contact. One major behavioral characteristic is
there is an absence of any form of social skills. For example, they might not be
interested in human activities such as, socialization with other human beings which

Women in Sports and Sports Broadcasting Essay
Women in Sports and Sports Broadcasting
Before I conducted this media analysis about women in sports and sport
broadcasting, I hypothesized the obvious that more male sports would be in the
media, and that there would be more male sports broadcasters as well. Through my
observations I did find that the sports arena and sports broadcasting sphere are male
dominated. However, I also found that although there are not many stories about
women, there has been a steady progression and magazines like Sports Illustrated are
becoming bold enough to highlight women athletes in a magazine that is targeted
towards a male audience. Although women still have a long way to go, they are
making some headway into the male dominated sports arena. ... Show more content

The only empowering story I found was a feature about the Notre Dame vs. UCLA
women?s soccer match?and this only contained a picture and a brief summary of the
game. Most print media sports stories are written by men?even the articles that are
about women. This shows that males dominate the journalism field in general. It is
funny that men can be experts on women and women in sport. This might also show
that men are interested in women?s sport, realizing that the women?s sport
movement is an important movement and should be given some credit.
On all four of the news broadcasts I watched, men dominated the broadcasting. With
the exception of the Merril Lynch Celebrity Ski Classic Cup, which had two male
broadcasters and two female reporters, the broadcasts were either male dominated
(with one woman reporter) or only contained men. I found that sports such as skiing
or running exhibit more gender equality than male dominated sports like football,
baseball or basketball.
Women have come a long way, and are actually beginning to find a more
significant place in sports media. Men are starting to take women more
seriously?both on the field and in the news station. I was ecstatic to read a SI letter
to the editor, written by a man that read, ??Maybe we should show a little respect for
the women?s accomplishment? (SI, November 2004)?it gave me hope. Through this
analysis, I gained a stronger appreciation for sports media, and became more
optimistic about women

Boston Bombing Report
On April 15, 2013, Boston s first attack on public citizens, in a long time. During
this attack 3 civilians were killed and later on there was an officer shot by the
suspect. There was also 264 people who were wounded during this time as well. All
this was caused by two bombs that went off on Boylston Street each at different parts
of the street. This was known as the BostonBombing. Hello I m Cameron Smith, our
country has many monuments and memorials, all dedicated to people or events
that would never be forgotten in America s history. On the dated listed above the
Boston Bombing happened, which affected many people who lived in America.
This is why I am proposing a new monument to honor all those people who risked
their lives to go save others who, were injured. This monument would also honor
those who lost their lives during this tragic accident. This monument would be built
in Boston, near where the bombs went off. As you can see on the rough sketch the
design shows seven people. Three of these people are injured, then we have four
different civilians who rushed in and are assisting the injured people. The max
height of people the people who are standing up will be 10 ft. They... Show more

The Evolution Of Abortion Laws And Regulations

The Evolution of Abortion Laws and Regulations
The examination of the development of social structures from the early twentieth
century to the present date reveals a significant change in the laws and regulations
associated with the pro choice and pro life debate. In the social hierarchy of
humanity, the tasks, such as who is the main bread winner versus who is the primary
household caregiver, undertaken as belonging to the male or female have remained
constant, and therefore made the pro life argument one that has been quite difficult to
overcome. However, the established definition of the terms male and female
regarding obligations, duties, and expectations have been altered in recent years,
which has allowed for new insights and new attitudes towards what were once
considered inviolate, unchanging norms in consideration to how society used to view
abortion laws and regulations. Half of the battle when it comes to abortion laws and
regulations comes from women s rights, and society s ideal view of them. This is
why the changes that took place in the beginning of the 20th century were so crucial.
Early advocates of women s rights, such as Mary Wollstonecraft, emphasized the
education of women to make them better wives and mothers (Wood 369). The
political struggle to enfranchise women began in the United States with the Seneca
Falls Convention, which was the first women s rights convention in 1848. This
Essay On The Alien Sedition Act
In 1783 America fully gained their independence from England. With America
becoming a free nation, they had to address new issues that came their way from
1787 1816. Some issues were harder to face than others, but in all America
successfully addressed main problems. From 1787 1816 the United States
successfully addressed the Democratic Republican and Federalist political parties,
and through treaties and purchases, foreign relations. The Democratic Republican
and Federalist parties had a power struggle from 1798 1816, they tried to settle the
struggles by having the Alien Sedition Act, the Marbury VS Madison trial, and
Hartford convention. After the American revolution, America was dealing with two

The act was supposed to stop the growth of the Democratic Republicans faction. The
act targeted control over immigrants, due to the fact that they would most likely be a
Democratic Republican. The Federalists did not want the Democratic Republicans to
gain more followers, and have more power. The act also gave the president authority
to deport any alien he deemed dangerous to the nation. The Marbury VS Madison
case was another incident where the parties were trying to prove their power over the
each other. President Thomas Jefferson denied a job to William Marbury for the
justice of peace. Marbury had been elected in to office by John Adams when he was
president. Thomas Jefferson did not want Marbury because he was a federalist. The
case went to the supreme court. The supreme court sided with Marbury and gave him
the job. At this time, it was also decided that the the Supreme Court s (has the) power
to determine the constitutionality of laws established . Lastly, the Hartford
Convention was a meeting from 1814 1816. The Federalists meeting addressed the
disloyalty seen in their party during the War of 1812. After this, the downfall of the
Federalist party started. With the Hartford Convention starting the downfall of the
Federalist Party, the Democratic Republicans became the more powerful party.
Ultimately, by eliminating the Federalist party, America was able to conquer the
political struggles and try to unify the government. Though the political struggles
were not addressed in the most productive way, America addressed the foreign
relationships in a positive way by treaties and

1) Are the four components of Marriott s financial strategy consistent with its growth
objective?
a) It is advisable to manage than to own as it is consistent with the growth strategy.
In this manner, mar riot can attract additional capital that gives it an opportunity to
even invest more in the future, share the risks with limited partners. The partnership
can be of great benefit as it is a good way of saving on taxes.
b) The decision to invest in projects increases the shareholders value of the company.
This is consistent with the growth and from the NPV criteria, positive NPV of
projects increases the shareholder s value.
c) Optimization of the capital structure is also consistent with the growth of the
company. The optimal capital structure ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
How does Marriott use its estimate of its cost of capital? Does this make sense?
a) Discounted cash flows from the projects by the suitable division of a hurdle rate to
get the net present value which financially makes sense since risks among different
divisions do vary.
b) Another method is through incorporation of the hurdle rate in the compensation
policy which in sense does not make sense since the rate does reflect risks of
different activities and not managers performance.
3. What is the weighted average cost of capital for Marriott Corporation?
Marriot Corporation measures the opportunity cost of the cost of capital for the
investments using the weighted average cost of capital for similar investments that
have the same risk. The WACC for the corporation is 11.89%.
a)What risk free rate and the risk premium did you use to calculate the cost of equity?
For the purposes of risk premium consistency, the arithmetic average was most
applicable to the historic US government bonds of 4.58% for the longest period
because of its accurate estimate.
The risk premium used is 7.43% though it seems to be high, low free rate
compensates it.
For the calculation of equity, beta is a necessity because there is no comparison that
matches its operational profile. Beta 1.17 ke = (4.58%+1.17) =
Traditional American Dating

services instead of traditional american dating methods?
The concept of dating has dramatically changed and in the 21 century s age of self
expression adults might not want their children to stray from the traditional American
dating standards they grew up in. The concept of dating has changed because instead
of dating the normal way, many Americans turn to online dating to find their partner.

Performance and Risk Indicators of Two Mutual Fund
Managers
This study aims to conduct a comprehensive analysis on the performance and risk
indicators of two mutual fund managers. After transforming the returns of the mutual
funds into the same data scale with the other variables, we employ a statistically
rigorous factor analysis procedure to identify the risk adjusted performance of each
mutual fund. Then, we apply Chow(1960) tests to investigate possible investment
strategy similarities and potential structural breakpoints.
2.Modelling and Analysis The first model used to evaluate risk adjusted fund
performance was based on the work by Sharpe Lintner Treynor Mossin on the Capital
Asset Pricing Model.
Using OLS we estimate: Based on these results we could argue that the mutual
funds do not follow the market closely, but both Managers over perform the index.
Furthermore, in order to test whether or not we have viable explanatory coefficients,
a t testing procedure was followed(Table 2). Using a 5% significance level, all
coefficients except the market beta of Mutual Fund 1 are statistically significant. The
low R2 in both mutual funds implies that their returns are less well explained by the
Benchmark s movements. However, Titman and Tiu(2011) suggest that low R
squares likely indicate more active management; either departing from a Benchmark
or focusing on stocks with larger fractions of variance attributed to firm specific
information. In order to compare both Managers performance, Kothari and

The Discourse On The Need For Universities
The discourse on the need for universities to contribute to innovation is widespread in
African countries and among international organisations. Stakeholders lament the
weak contribution of universities to innovation, while at the same time
acknowledging the difficulties higher education institutions face. Major international
organizations recognize that university industry collaborations are scarce and weak
in most African countries; in addition, they point to a shortage of skills in science
and engineering, and university curricula that tend to be irresponsive to industry s
needs (The World Bank 2009). Moreover, because of a lack of expertise and
financial resources, many African countries are not able to develop sound science,
technology and innovation policies (World Bank 2009; UNESCO and The African
Union2009).
An array of policy documents and initiatives seek to encourage and support the
contribution of universities to innovation in Africa. These policy discourses can be
identified among national governments, international organizations, and international
aid agencies. Organizations such as The World Bank, OECD and UNESCO regularly
issue policy documents in support of African universities playing a greater role in
innovation. For instance, the United Nations Task Team on the Post Millennium
Development Goals 2015 acknowledges the role of innovation in driving growth in
developing countries (UN 2013). The World Bank in particular has been for the past

Access Control Policy
Due in Week Seven: Outline the Access ControlPolicy. Describe how access control
methodologies work to secure information systems
Access control is used to restrict operations, which authorized users can perform.
Access control does exactly what it says, it controls what access an authorized user
can have. A reference monitor is used for access control and follows instructions from
an authorization database. These authorizations are controlled and administered by a
security administrator who sets ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is also possible under some operating systems for the network or system
administrator to dictate which permissions users are allowed to set in the ACL s of
the resources. Discretionary Access Control has a more flexible environment than
Mandatory Access Control, but also increases the risk that data will be made
accessible to users who should not gain access. Understanding permissions about the
security of file servers on the network will increase network security (Bushmiller,
2011).
2 Mandatory access control
Describe how and why mandatory access control will be used.
Mandatory Access Control (MAC) uses a hierarchy approach to control access to
resources, such as data files. The system administrator is responsible for the
settings in a MAC environment. All access to resource objects is controlled by the
operating system based on setting configured by the system administrator. With
MAC it is not possible for users to change the access control for any resource.
Mandatory Access Control starts with security labels, which contain two types of
information and are assigned to all resource objects on the system. The two types of
information are classification, such as confidential or top secret and a category,
which is basically an indication of the project or department to which the object is
available, or an indication of the management level.
My Trip To Knott s Scary Farm
Passion comes to people over time, it can come from the simplest of things such as
fishing or even running. But there s some people who have those passions that
may come as peculiar to many people. Instead of judging these individuals, we
need to take a step back and try to understand from their perspective. I was 13 years
old when I finally found a passion that I really enjoyed. Most kids that age have a
passion for sports, while I enjoy sports, I never really had my heart into it. October
3rd, 2010 my family decide to take a trip to Knott s Scary Farm. I had been

throughout the main entrance along with it every now and then were the blood

the fog was a veil that not only blinded our vision, but it was a portal into another

Tattoos In Jap The Tattos Are Discrimination In Japan
Irezumi
In Japan, the world can be written in diverse ways, but each with them have closely
different meanings. Irezumi, Horimono, and Shise all can represent the tattoo in
Japan. However, most of Japanese skin artists prefer the English word tattoo to
irezumi. The reason is not because the tattoos are considered to be unclean, but rather
they represent an identification or identity the association with the deviant
subculture. Therefore, as that reason having tattoos in Japan are considered
controversy.
For finding out why tattoos are discriminated in Japan, first people need to know how
the word irezumi originated from. Back to 1910, one of the well known Japanese
litterateur, Tanizaki, publicized a short story which named The Tattooer in English.
In the story, a gigantic spider was inscribed by a tattoo artist on a beautiful and young
woman s body. Since then, the woman s beauty takes a demonic and compelling
power and irezumi also takes a deep impression for Japanese.
The creation of the word of irezumi is just a beginning of the controversy. During
the Edo period, the city in Japan had a large population, and the crime rate followed
up. So, the government of Japanese began to punish the criminals by marking ink on
their bodies. Japanese authorities will according to the level of crime and the severity
of sentencing in the criminals arm, wrist, forehead or facial tattooed in a prominent
position. This action is named irezumi kei, with kei referring to penalty,
An Analysis Of Abigail Adams Letter To John Quincy
Adams
On January 12, 1780, Abigail Adams wrote a letter to her son John Quincy Adams,
who was traveling through France with his father, US diplomat John Adams. She
is clearly concerned about her son s well being, and seems to feel guilty that she
urged him to make the trip, although he was averse to going. She suggests that he
must enjoy using his knowledge of the French language, and that being in France is
an excellent opportunity for him to increase his understanding. Mrs. Adams shares a
metaphor with her son comparing a traveler to a river that picks up rich minerals as
it moves from its source, and suggests that all he has to do is to pay attention and
apply himself to absorbing what he s exposed to on the trip. She reminds him that his

The Importance Of Life Changing Experiences In My Life
Life altering experiences can occur in the blink of an eye or over a longer time.
The experiences that I went through in 2011 are by far the most interesting in my
life so far. Please join me as I reminisce on times that have past but remain engrained
in my mind. From leaving the comforts of the dreary state of Washington to living
inside stonewallsin a foreign land. I lay in my hollow empty shell of a room as I
look at the clock tick away so loud that I felt it in my hands. I knew all those nights
of staying up late anticipating the day to arrive like a child awaiting to open
Christmas presents had finally come. We stumbled our ways into the bus with two
bags two are names and a metal instrument of defense by our side. Mindless chatter
arose in the bus, I began to stare out the window as I watched sons say goodbye to
their dads, Wives to their husbands, and husbands to their wives. Senseless
communication like one that you would make with a stranger at a coffee shop
waiting to place your over priced coffee order. The wheels began to roll and the
sun began to set. As we pulled up to the tarmac everything fell silent as if someone
had set the world on mute. We ambled our way across the tarmac and all you could
hear is boots rubbing on the cold wet gravel. Ample seating available on flight as
we knew that it was not one for leisure. The wheels came up we zoomed skyward
and a gloomy day turned upside down as we broke through the crowds into a vast
sunny place that seemed to make everything alright in the world for that moment.
The mindset once we arrived to Victory Base Complex in Baghdad had changed
dramatically. Life here was simple and never changing unless we received some
unwanted fire work display by the enemy. Our living quarters where shared very
much like a dog kennel with two dogs trying to coexist. But who are we to complain
those that came before us had it much worst. As you exited the living quarters in
turned into a labyrinth of stone walls and other living units surrounded. The ground
which you use to be mostly sandis now covered with rocks for better traction. In turn
it did not provide better traction it felt more like quick sand. The bathrooms are

Why Is Food Preservation Important
Food Preservation and its Functions in General
What is Food Preservation, exactly? It is the act of preserving food, maintaining its
best quality for a given amount of time; other than that, it is a field of science that is
dedicated to the lengthening of food shelf life, maintaining better food quality and
taste, ensuring the safe consumption of food through the control of the biological,
chemical, or physical factors and many more. According to Ashiya (2011), food
preservation has multiple functions that may be essential to the survival of the
human race; these may be, the addition of variety to diet, the stabilization of food
prices, reduction of time and effort required for preparation, and the allowing of
consumption of climate specific food at any given time.
Nummer (2002) mentioned that, food preservation has spread throughout every
civilization at any given point in time. Mankind had to domesticate his surroundings
in order to survive, learning to settle down and stop their nomadic tendencies. This
helped them save and store food for later use, removing the need to immediately
consume their harvest or catch. This shows how important food preservation was
during the ancient times where man needed to use his wits and intelligence to attain
their position at the top of the food chain.

Food preservation is also currently studied by multiple people, including myself,
and it is of utmost importance for the young people today to be aware of the

future where food shortage is countered and food is available to all people can
actually come true if people put their heart into

Carrie Buck s Argumentative Analysis
When one chooses to write on a matter that seems to have been laid to rest decades
ago their burden extensively lies not in trying to argue for their position, rather in
showing the relevance of their position. This paper attempts to do both of these things
when it comes to non consensual sterilizations of women, specifically disabled
women. A practice prominent in the 20th century, this paper examines coerced
sterilizations from a feminist care ethicsperspective and ultimately concludes that
paternalistic arguments for this practice are in fact eugenic arguments, and thus
renders coerced tubal litigations as unethical. Although neo eugenicsis starting to gain

This is true; however, Linda Sparkman and others like her deserve justice. This
justice begins by admitting that Ora McFarlane s actions and the court s decision
was beyond unethical but purely eugenic. A relationship between a parent and a
child is one involving genuine care, acceptance, interdependence between the two
and a duty of the parent to adhere to these virtues. Sterilizing a teenager because they
fraternize with men is not justified by care ethics nor the law as shown earlier due to
the lack of statutory authorization. The mother s wishes do, however, make sense

customers thirst for variety, etc. hence obtaining and maintaining loyalty for a

The Incarceration Of The Correctional Institution
The correctional institutions are established for correction of behaviors by law
offenders. The society expects that once an individual comes out of the correctional
facility, he is a reformed person. In addition, these facilities are always expected to
warn the law abiding citizens to deter them from committing a crime for fear of being
in the correctional cells. However, the population in the correction facilities
especially prisons is contrary to this expectation. Over time, there is increased number
of offenders. This comprises of the new offenders and the repeat offenders. This
causes overcrowding in the correctional facilities which is a challenge to the society.
The focus of this problem is the social effect of overcrowding to the judicial system
and ways of addressing the challenge. Overcrowding in correctional institutions
Crime is punishable for three reasons namely retribution, prevention and deterrence.
The main purpose of incarcerating offenders is to stop them from repeating previous
crimes they committed. Appraising the current American system using these
standards, the deterrence category has failed miserably, insufficient in prevention and
providing unsatisfactory retribution through detention. Attempts to deter released
criminals who are convicted are dismissed by the recidivism s high rate (Tish
Burbank, 2009). This is evident through the rising population of new offenders
undeterred from crime. Many gangs and offenders recruit and carry out

first paragraph there are a lot of arguments about what we should do to stop it from
becoming a bigger problem should the drunk driving limit be lowered from .08 to
.05 or should the cops just be more strict on it and make frequent road stops to
check to see if people are drunk or not. If you are going to drink at least be smart
enough to have a designated driver there so if you do get really drunk someone
will be there to make sure you get home safe and in one piece. I have given you all
these reasons why I think that it is bad but it s really your decision what you do
with your life, but don t be stupid with your decision because if you are you may not
be able to live long enough to make another decision. Why don t we try to be the
generation that tries to stop drunk driving and help the next
Dive In. My First Piece Of Personal Advice To My Future
Dive in
My first piece of personal advice to my future self is to dive in. Fear of failure has
always been something that I ve struggled with. During my first year of university,
I was in the Faculty of Arts but desperately knew I wanted to be business school.
With that said, I was extremely scared of failure and held my application back until I
was ready the next year. For a whole year, I took courses that I wasn t passionate
about as I couldn t bring myself to apply to Sauder. I wasted a year of my
undergraduate experience because I was scared. I deeply regret it now that I know
what I m capable of.
My time at Sauder has forced me to directly face my fear of failure. Networking
events, presentations, debates, group work, job interviews, ... Show more content on

During the first few years of my career, I want to be a PhD candidate in consumer
behaviour. I want to learn more about different statistical methods to test my
hypotheses and learn new theories that I can draw upon for new research ideas. My
first advice to dive in is especially applicable in the academic world. The large
majority of research ideas do not work out because the data doesn t support the
hypothesis or journal reviewers turn down the proposal. For my future self, it is
critical that I m not discouraged by null findings or rejections from editors because it
is part of the job.
While the process of research can seem gruelling to most people, I know that I m
passionate about it because time passes by quickly when I m thinking about a new
research question or writing a research proposal or finding patterns in my data. My
contingency advice to my future self is, if research doesn t work out, find another
occupation that makes it feel like time is flying by.
It s not just about the money
When I first started at Sauder, I had a preconceived belief that if I worked hard in
school that would mean I would make a lot of money and, consequently, be happy.
And so I did do that for the first couple of years before I realized I was miserable
since I spent no time pursuing my hobbies or seeing my friends and family. Thus, I
want to build
Competitive Sports Are Not Healthy For Kids
There has been a long disagreement about whether or not competitive sports are
healthy for kids, I am here to tell you that they are not healthy. My first reason is
that, many kids in sports will experience too much stress. My next reason includes,
that there are far too many injuries in competitive sports. My third and final reason,
is that athletes will have to give up many things that they love, in order to play
competitive sports. As one could see there are many reasons competitive sports are
not healthy for kids. To begin with, many kids who are hardcore athletes have too
much stress in their life and will eventually burnout. First of all, ESPN showed that

To start with, it is hard to get good grades and have late night practice. (Andre

between their sports and schooling in order to be competitive and be the best in
their game.. To add more fuel to the fire, weekends are booked solid and the
offseason is filled with strength and conditioning workouts. (March 03, 2015, by
Grace Chen) This proves kids give things up for sports because these kids won t
have a lot of time for family time or even just down time. Lastly,Jacqueline Stenson
MSNBC contributor said Have to sacrifice other interests, give up down time to be
kids. This proves sports are not healthy for kids since they give too many things up
like, going to friend s houses, hanging out with their family or even just being a
kid. Due to all of these reasons, one can see that competitive sports are unhealthy
for kids. In review, kids undergo so much stress that the stop participating in sports.
Secondly, injuries are a huge factor in why competitive sports are healthy for kids.
Even so, many kids love sports but just keep going and need down time to be kids.
With all of this it is clear that competitive sports are unhealthy for
Essay African American Perception
The perception of racism towards African Americans in the United States is shown
through both current American novels and films. Nearly every novel and film made
today portrays a sense of racism towards African Americans and continually has the
African American gangster and the white man hero. Unfortunately, many African
Americans are categorized compared to whites as less qualified, educated and
trustworthy. More specifically, the novel Southland acknowledged a different racial
perception of jobs towards whites and people of color in relation to being a police
officer. White peopleare continually represented as the proper, social and economical
power by what jobs they are given and the actions they take. Different novels, films

In relationship of African Americans shown as the villain within a society, Revoyr
hints to this more when describing the apartment complex of Jackie s aunt. The two
shootings and numerous hold ups that had scared the residents lately had all
occurred within the Estates, not outside of them, so she didn t see why the guards
were so concerned with visitors (Southland, 15). This passage is important because
Revoyr illustrates with her words how African Americans are somewhat caged
within their own society and fighting people of their own kind. The idea of the white
person as always the hero and the African American as the villain directly relates to
the fact they are fighting within their own race and not others. Never in books are
fancy white neighborhoods shown as the poor, aggressive and hated area of society
quite like the African American ones. The perfect example of racismin film in
relation to African Americans portrayed improperly is David Ayer s Training Day.
This is a story about a white man, Jake Hoyt, who is becoming a police officer and
needs to be trained by an African American, Detective Alonzo Harris, but ends up
becoming the typical white hero without knowing. Detective Harris is a narcotics
officer who lives in a ghetto African American neighborhood where everyone hates
him because of how he abuses his authority. Detective Harris is portrayed in the film
as the badass
Importance Of Personal Writing
From an early age, I ve had trouble with writing effectively. I had absolutely no
interest in learning to write, which was mostly because of how difficult it was to me.
Often, I found it boring. As I got older, I found interest in music and poetry, sparking
my interest to learn to write like musicians and poets. Up until that point, I had
always been writingpapers for school, often to write research papers or to write
forced narratives. I never wrote anything for myself until about junior year in high
school. I did always enjoy reading intriguing narratives that others didn t enjoy
though, so that s exactly what I wrote. Even senior year, I was assigned to write a
narrativestory based around Arthurian legends; I was proud of what I wrote... Show

If my audience were a large group of people, my storytelling would be less specific
and more focused on telling the overall idea of the story; I like to include some
overlying theme in the story. The Arthurian legend that I wrote for class was easy
to write and took me about an hour to finish a five page story. It was for my British
literature class in high school. I took all the stereotypes included in Arthurian
legends and tried to turn them into the opposite whilst also including them like the
rubric said. However, I m almost the opposite for professional papers. I still prefer
free writing my essays, but I must stop every minute or so, just to figure out what
to write next. I ve tried using outlines, but it makes me take longer to write since I
would be doing the same stopping and thinking thing that I already do when free
writing. My audience influences the way I write professionally since I know that
somebody is going to read it. I often make sure that what I say is fully explained,
with as much proper grammar as I can use. The best thing about wanting to explain
every detail I can is that I don t like to leave gray area for facts I state; I state the
full explanation if I know what I m talking about. The thing I don t like about writing
professional papers is that usually forced to write about something I really don t find
interesting, which is the biggest determining factor in whether I put time into the
composition or not. I prefer the writing
Light Of The Dark
Light in the Dark I grew up without a father. Well, I grew up with a father, but he
wasn t exactly a father figure. I was abused, and I thought it was normal. I thought
that everyone s father beat them, yelled at them, and decried them. My mom didn t
know. I was scared to tell her, scared to see what he would do to me if I told her. I
wasn t the only one he had abused. He also abused my brother, Jalaun, and I couldn
t do anything about it. I felt as if I was hopeless. Should I be doing this? I asked
myself, as I packed my book bag up with all of what I thought were the essentials of
living. My mind was tearing itself apart. I m tired of him, I ruminated but my
conscience interrupted, But what about your Mom and Jalaun. You can t leave
them alone. I then made the decision that I couldn t leave my brother, Jalaun, in
this battle with our father. I couldn t let him endure it by himself. After giving up
on leaving I stood there wondering what it would be like if I would have left,
however I began slowly lulling myself to sleep. Isaac, wake up. If I can t sleep in you
can t either, my father bellowed into my bedroom. My eyes quickly opened and I
could see the rays of sun coming in from the windows in my bedroom. I threw
myself out of my bed, and quickly ran into the kitchen to kiss my mom before she
left for work. Right after she left, I prepared myself for what would happen next.
Isaac and Jalaun come here. He screamed from my bedroom. My impulses went wild.

How Stress Affects Physical Health
How to relieve stress physically amp; How Stress Affects Physical Health
People are increasingly facing more stress since the Human Being society became
developed and complicated, by ignoring the physical influence to our body, Human
s health suffered considerably from stress. Many people was suggested to solve the
stress problem by using psychological approaches, however, the research in recent
decades has identified a significant awareness gap between the benefits of physical
activities and stress relief. The following paper is aiming at exploring how stress
affects physical health and how to relieve stress physically.

Thirdly, physical exercise itself could re shape our body, make body stronger and
looks healthier. It hence can improve individual s attractiveness and confidence and
hence can enable a positive life attitude. Fourthly, since the physical exercise
normally would enable individual to interact with others, socialising with participants
and friends in a such low stress way might meet human s belonging needs. It
therefore could make people have a good mood and recharge themselves to fight
against stress (Elizabeth, 2011).
Despite a great number of physical activities benefits in stress relief, it is difficult
to implement it in an effective way. Firstly, the stress relief effect of a certain type
of physical exercise may vary based on individual s differences. The body may react
differently in different age group, gender, income level, culture, education level and
other segments parameter. Secondly, the lack of consistency makes the effect
difficult to be maintained and the stress hence may rebound quickly. Therefore, the
physical exercises need to be tailored regard to the different stressor. For example,
high energy and competitive type of exercise would be suitable for those who cannot
directly express their anger emotion to colleagues and
Ronald Reagan, The Great Communicator Of The United
States...
Ronald Wilson Reagan, the great communicator of the United States of America
began his legacy of embodying the conservative movement during one of the most
famous speeches in American history. Before Ronald Reagan became the fortieth
president of the United States, he began his switch from acting and movies to
government and politics. Early in Reagan s career he saw himself as a democrat,
with Theodore Roosevelt as his hero. This would change thru his acting and
professional career as Ronald Reaganannounced that he would choose a different
path. Ronald began his turn from Hollywood to Washington D.C. when he began to
see his liberal/democratic views start to hurt the country in which he thought his
views were being represented. In 1962, in a rally for Barry Goldwaterthe Republican
Nominee for the 1964 election; Ronald Reagan gave one of the most prolific and
famous speeches of all time A Time for Choosing. In this speech Ronald Reagan
showed the people of America a new side of himself where he believed small
government, lower taxes, and the American spirit would allow for a new era of
prosperity that the left wing had been holding back. Since the beginning of American
government there have always been two distinct parties in which the people listen
and side with the values that they believe in. For the last hundred years the two main
parties have been Republicans and Democrats. Republicans having conservative
values believe in a hands off government, lower taxes,

about when Zeus took revenge on man, because Prometheus stole heavenly fire
from him and gave it to them. He then created woman for man and with her was a
gift from the gods. The gift was a box that was filled with hunger, anger, hard labor,
sickness, and greed. He told her to never open the box but soon curiosity got the best
of her and she open it and when all these things poured out onto humankind the only
good thing inside was hope. This essay will look at Prometheusand the First People

because they probably told you not to do it for a good reason. The passage also
shows how the box symbolizes how something may seem good and beautiful, but
its true nature is destructive. When the author wrote Prometheus and the First People

about the stories of how the Greek s believe we were made and show that not

Explore on how the topic of regret share commonality between Old Hands and Hamlet
The short story, Old Hands by Mathew Howards and the play Hamlet by William
Shakespeare, both share commonalities on the topic of regret. The narrator from Old
Hands and King Claudius from Hamlet suffer because of their inability to overcome
the regret they have for their past actions committed against their family members.
The narrator from Old Hands would torment his wife and daughter, that caused the
narrator to lose or distance himself from them, which he regrets doing, as he now
lives with the guilt of his actions and fading memories. King Claudius from Hamlet

But, O, what form of prayer
Can serve my turn? Forgive me my foul murder ? (3, 3, 38 53)
This quotation reveals that Claudius feels extremely guilty and regretful of his
violent action of the past of murdering his own brother. Claudius also realizes that
he will never be able to atone for his actions because, murder is a mortal sin that is
never forgiven, he still reaps the rewards of the murder: the crown and his queen,
and also because, he will never be able to bring his brother back to life and beg his
forgiveness for the act that he committed, and therefore, cannot repair the harm he
had caused to his own brother. In conclusion, both characters, the narrator and King
Claudius are going through the same phase or situation, as they are regretful of their
past actions they have committed. This shows how Old Hands and Hamlet are
closely linked to each other since, the narrator s and King Claudius situation
revolves around the topic of regret. A person will keep on feeling guilty and regretful
for their past actions that they have committed against their loved ones or family
members, which they are unable to atone for, with every incident still fresh and
painful in memory, it will always come back to haunt their

Silence
It is a beautiful September morning. The sky is blue and cloudless, although it feels
like it should rain. Hundreds of people gather in small, tight knit groups at Ground
Zero, holding tightly to the person beside them. Shoulders shake as they stand in
the place where their loved ones died; not a word is uttered. Silence. That s how
they choose to remember 2,296 souls (Plumer, 2013). Complete and utter silence.
The void that is too often filled, the thing that is too often forgotten. Today s
society has been trained to avoid silence. In a world where our senses are
constantly assaulted by sound, silence has become awkward, uncomfortable, and
sometimes, even downright terrifying. We fill our world with sound, from the
moment we wake up in the morning to the moment we fall asleep at night. The
loud, insistent beep of the alarm clock, the ringing of cell phones, the slamming of
doors, and the hum of the radio invade every sphere of our lives. By taking a step
back, and looking at the world from a different point of view, we will see that
silence is a powerful tool that transforms our lives. Our generation is no longer
taught to spend time contemplating who we are as individuals. Rather, our focused
energy is on the distractions that are so easily available to us. We look for every
possible way to run from solitude instead of turning inward and spending time alone
with our own thoughts and emotions. Though it is frequently overlooked, silence is
an influential resource available
Basic Recommender System Techniques For Creating A
New...
Several ways have been proposed for combining basic recommender system
techniques to create a new hybrid system. The earlier survey of hybrids approaches
[40] identified seven different types such as weighted, switching, mixed, feature
combination, feature augmentation, cascade and meta level [114]. A weighted
hybrid recommender is one in which the score of a recommended item is computed
from the results of all of the available recommendation techniques present in the
system [40]. The score of different recommendation components is combined
numerically. Weighted combination model which implements collaborative and
content based methods separately and combines their predictions with giving
adjustable weight to both recommendation [50, 115].The benefit of a weighted
hybrid is that all of the system s capabilities are brought to bear on the
recommendation process in a straightforward way and it is easy to perform post hoc
credit assignment and adjust the hybrid accordingly [40]. Liu et al. [116] proposed
another hybrid recommendation system to deal with the problems of content based,
demographic filtering and collaborative filterings, such as sparsity and scalability. To
resolve the sparsity problem, blanks in the user item rating matrix are п¬Ѓrst п¬Ѓlled
with a weighted average rating on items which a user has rated, where the weight of
the rated item is calculated by the similarity between an unrated item and the rated
item in their feature values. Then, collaborative filtering

The difficulty lies not only in articulating thoughts coherently but also in addressing the complexities of a topic that intersects various scientific, environmental, and social aspects. One of the primary challenges is striking the right balance between scientific facts and engaging storytelling. Water conservation involves a multitude of factors such as the hydrological cycle, climate change, human behavior, and policy implications. Crafting an essay that integrates these elements seamlessly requires in-depth research and a nuanced understanding of the subject matter. Furthermore, the need for clarity and persuasiveness adds another layer of difficulty. Conveying the importance of water conservation demands a compelling narrative that resonates with readers. This involves skillfully blending statistics, case studies, and real-world examples to create a persuasive argument. In addition, addressing the global nature of the issue makes it imperative to consider regional disparities and diverse perspectives. Water scarcity and conservation efforts vary across different geographical locations, necessitating a comprehensive approach that accommodates these variations. Moreover, the urgency of the matter requires staying updated with the latest developments and breakthroughs in water conservation technology and policies. Constantly evolving information adds a layer of challenge to keeping the essay relevant and insightful. • 2. Analysis Of Humor In Angel Puss The rest of the episode consists of the cat constantly outsmarting Sambo. With a slight grin on his face, the cat moves the fence a few feet over, tricking Sambo to enter the wrong house. Now in the house, he easily sneaks up behind Sambo. Leaning in, he whispers a faint, Boo. Screeching, Sambo jumps out of his skin and then bolts in the opposite direction. This torture continues for some time and then to the cat s dismay, the two fall into a lake. The paint quickly washes off, exposing the cat. Puzzled, Sambo eventually realises he has been duped. Quickly, he gathers his gun, corners the cat, and shots him five times. With a giant grin on his face Sambo finally feels relief, but alas, the cat turns into nine real ghosts and begins to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He has a droopy hat riddled with holes and is wearing unbuttoned overalls with fabric patches, looking like a poor farmboy. Also, he committed a crime against his better judgement, just to get a few bucks which shows his low economic status. Sambo s socioeconomic status and appearance encourage feelings of superiority over the stereotypical poor, unhuman African American. Additionally, his behavior encourages the poor unintelligent African American stereotype of the 1930s. Many times he can barely function as a human through the episode. Normal behaviors that most humans do with ease, like walking and talking, Sambo struggles with. He takes long strides while methodologically thinking about each step in his head, and then stumbles with most steps. Moreover, his speech skills are not to par with normal language abilities of a boy his age. At the beginning of Angel Puss, his sorrowful song is nearly impossible to understand with his heavy southern accent coupled with poor grammar. Likewise, his speech is slow and riddled with stutters, implying that he did not receive a proper education to speak properly. His inability to do basic human processes dehumanizes Sambo, making him inferior and easy to laugh at. Later in the episode, Sambo is running for his life from what he thinks is a ghost. Wanting to mess with Sambo even more, the cat starts rolling dice in his hands. Sambo hears the dice and begins to slow down and eventually comes to a

  • 4. Essay on Jerry Garcia And The Grateful Dead Jerry Garcia and The Grateful Dead Jerome John Garcia was born in 1942, in San Francisco s Mission District. His father, a spanish immigrant named Jose quot;Joe quot; Garcia, had been a jazz clarinetist and Dixieland bandleader in the thirties, and he named his new son after his favorite Broadway composer, Jerome Kern. In the spring of 1948, while on a fishing trip, Garcia saw his father swept to his death by a California river. After his father s death, Garcia spent a few years living with his mother s parents, in one of San Francisco s working class districts. He was also working part time at Dana Morgan s Music Store, where he met several of the musicians who would eventually dominate the San Francisco music scene. In 1963 Garcia formed a jug band, Mother McCree s Uptown Jug Champions. Its lineup included a young folk guitarist named Bob Weir and a blues lover, Ron McKernan, known to his friends as quot;Pigpen quot; for his often disorderly appearance. The group played a mix of blues, country, and folk, and Pigpen became the frontman, singing Jimmy Reed and Lightnin Hopkins tunes. Then in February 1964, the Beatles made their historic appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show, and virtually overnight, youth culture was imbued with a new spirit and sense of identity. Gracia understood the group s promise after seeing its first film, A Hard Day s Night. As a result, the folky purism of Mother McCree s all acoustic form began to seem rather limited and uninteresting to Garcia and many of the other band members, and before long the ensemble was transformed into the Warlocks. A few dropped out, but they were soon joined by two more; Bill Kreutzmann, and Phil Lesh. It was around this time that Garcia and some of the group s other members also began an experiment with drugs that would change the nature of the band s story. Certainly this wasn t the first time drugs had been used in music for artistic expression or had

  • 6. The Outsiders Should Not Be Banned The Outsiders English teachers in middle schools and high schools have been through many debates over the years on whether or not a certain book should be taught to students in United States public schooling systems. The Outsiders, is a book that should not be on the list of banned books. Believe it or not the book has been banned from schools and libraries. The Outsiders should not be banned because it provides valuable life lessons involving loyalty. Books like this one, that involve gangmembers, fighting, shooting, stabbing and other gory incidents, should be portrayed to kids in middle schooland beyond. This generation that people are growing up in nowadays is a weak, soft generation who need to realize that the world is not always going to be kind to them. The neighborhoods that a lot of kids live in are safe environments, which is not a bad thing, but they are unaware of the horrible things that go on in the ghettos or other places in our nation. Books are a great way to reach out to kids and show them valuable life lessons while also giving them learning experiences through that English class they are enrolled in. The author of this novel, The Outsiders, Susan Eloise Hinton, is a very popular author of young adult fiction stories and she is especially popular in the Oklahoma area because she makes the setting in a lot of her books from that area. She wrote the books That Was Then, This Is Now, Rumble Fish, Tex, and Taming The Star Runner. The Outsiders was

Generally, these diglossic situations are situations of language conflict whereby one of the languages is termed the high variety in contrast to the other which is considered low with the former being used in communication situations considered noble (writing, formal usage, and so on) and the latter being used in more informal circumstances (conversations with close family etc.). Speakers have sometimes been known to question whether this second variety is, in fact, a real

An earthquake occurs when there is a shaking of the Earth, caused by a buildup of energy in volcanic or tectonic form ( Earthquakes ). Essentially, an earthquake results from sections of the Earth moving, causing slippage. When two chunks of the Earth slip past each other, the point at which this happens is called the fault plane. In fact, an earthquakebegins in the hypocenter beneath the Earth s surface. Next, located right above the hypocenter is the epicenter (Wald). And finally, the main, and most important thing to remember about earthquakes is that they are random, and extremely hard to predict ( Earthquakes ). Earthquakes happen when two tectonic plates touch each other. When those plates experience tension and friction, they lock ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, a significant earthquake can develop with a magnitude reading 7.0 or higher, and it in fact does happen from time to time ( Earthquakes ). The third type of earthquake can be described as a volcanic earthquake. A volcanic earthquake begins to form when magma is contained within the under most part of a volcano. When the magma travels to the surface, it can break the rocks it flows through, in turn causing an earthquake. As intense as it sounds, earthquakes resulting from a volcano only produce a magnitude of around 5.0. An event called volcanic tremor can also be an outcome of the magma collected frequently, before a volcanic earthquake emerges. As the magma moves around, vibrations are given off, leading to volcanic tremors ( Earthquakes ). Among many events, earthquakes can cause landslides. When a landslide does happen as a result of an earthquake, they are shallow, and rock and soil are disturbed when falling. But even so, when a larger landslide occurs, which is not often, it still adds to the amount of the landslide. Earthquake magnitude has relations with where a landslide happens, the distance of the landslide, and the landslide volume. Unfortunately, it has been found that landslides caused by earthquakes add to the decrease in landscapes (Jibson, 2013). However, regardless of the situation, there will always be factors that affect how much damage is done as a consequence

The Seriousness of The Comedy of Errors The Comedy of Errors has often been dismissed as a mere farce, unworthy of any serious attention. Yet, when the author is Shakespeare, even a farce is well worth a second look. Shakespeare himself may have takent his comedic work quite seriously, for audiences expected comedy of his day not only to entertain, but also to morally instruct. It is not surprising, therefore, that for one of his earliest comedies, Shakespeare found a model in the plays of Plautus and Terence, which were studied in all Elizabethan Grammar Schools, praised by schoolmasters, and critically respectable. The scholarly use of the classic comedies came not without controversy. These texts became well marked sites of ideological struggle (4). Not every educator was convinced that the works of these playwrights, who display so zestfully lust, avarice, and deceit (4) were suitable for impressionable young students. Yet others, pointing out such edifying cases as Messenio warning his master about the peril of fallen women in The Menaechmi (Riehle 34), emphasized the moral utility of the texts (Muir 4 5). One Sir Thomas Elyot argued eloquently that the comedies were a picture or as it were a mirrour of man s life, wherein iuell is nat taught but discouered; to the intent that men beholdynge the promptnes of youth into vice, the snares of harlotts and baudes laide for yonge myndes, the disceipts of seruantes, the chaunces of fortune contrary to mennes expectation, they being thereof warned may prepare them selfe to resist or preuente occasion. The works of Plautus and Terence were considered just as useful as dramatic models as they were academic primers. Renaissance critics felt that comedy, as well as tragedy, should mingle moral instruction with delight (Muir 3). As the inheritors of a

Women in Sports and Sports Broadcasting Essay Women in Sports and Sports Broadcasting Before I conducted this media analysis about women in sports and sport broadcasting, I hypothesized the obvious that more male sports would be in the media, and that there would be more male sports broadcasters as well. Through my observations I did find that the sports arena and sports broadcasting sphere are male dominated. However, I also found that although there are not many stories about women, there has been a steady progression and magazines like Sports Illustrated are becoming bold enough to highlight women athletes in a magazine that is targeted towards a male audience. Although women still have a long way to go, they are making some headway into the male dominated sports arena. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The only empowering story I found was a feature about the Notre Dame vs. UCLA women?s soccer match?and this only contained a picture and a brief summary of the game. Most print media sports stories are written by men?even the articles that are about women. This shows that males dominate the journalism field in general. It is funny that men can be experts on women and women in sport. This might also show that men are interested in women?s sport, realizing that the women?s sport movement is an important movement and should be given some credit. On all four of the news broadcasts I watched, men dominated the broadcasting. With the exception of the Merril Lynch Celebrity Ski Classic Cup, which had two male broadcasters and two female reporters, the broadcasts were either male dominated (with one woman reporter) or only contained men. I found that sports such as skiing or running exhibit more gender equality than male dominated sports like football, baseball or basketball. Women have come a long way, and are actually beginning to find a more significant place in sports media. Men are starting to take women more seriously?both on the field and in the news station. I was ecstatic to read a SI letter to the editor, written by a man that read, ??Maybe we should show a little respect for the women?s accomplishment? (SI, November 2004)?it gave me hope. Through this analysis, I gained a stronger appreciation for sports media, and became more optimistic about women

  • 21. The Evolution Of Abortion Laws And Regulations Sam Wonson Mrs. Otto English II Pre AP 20 May 2013 The Evolution of Abortion Laws and Regulations The examination of the development of social structures from the early twentieth century to the present date reveals a significant change in the laws and regulations associated with the pro choice and pro life debate. In the social hierarchy of humanity, the tasks, such as who is the main bread winner versus who is the primary household caregiver, undertaken as belonging to the male or female have remained constant, and therefore made the pro life argument one that has been quite difficult to overcome. However, the established definition of the terms male and female regarding obligations, duties, and expectations have been altered in recent years, which has allowed for new insights and new attitudes towards what were once considered inviolate, unchanging norms in consideration to how society used to view abortion laws and regulations. Half of the battle when it comes to abortion laws and regulations comes from women s rights, and society s ideal view of them. This is why the changes that took place in the beginning of the 20th century were so crucial. Early advocates of women s rights, such as Mary Wollstonecraft, emphasized the education of women to make them better wives and mothers (Wood 369). The political struggle to enfranchise women began in the United States with the Seneca Falls Convention, which was the first women s rights convention in 1848. This

After transforming the returns of the mutual funds into the same data scale with the other variables, we employ a statistically rigorous factor analysis procedure to identify the risk adjusted performance of each mutual fund. Then, we apply Chow(1960) tests to investigate possible investment strategy similarities and potential structural breakpoints. 2.Modelling and Analysis The first model used to evaluate risk adjusted fund performance was based on the work by Sharpe Lintner Treynor Mossin on the Capital Asset Pricing Model. Using OLS we estimate: Based on these results we could argue that the mutual funds do not follow the market closely, but both Managers over perform the index. Furthermore, in order to test whether or not we have viable explanatory coefficients, a t testing procedure was followed(Table 2). Using a 5% significance level, all coefficients except the market beta of Mutual Fund 1 are statistically significant. The low R2 in both mutual funds implies that their returns are less well explained by the Benchmark s movements. Stakeholders lament the weak contribution of universities to innovation, while at the same time acknowledging the difficulties higher education institutions face. Major international organizations recognize that university industry collaborations are scarce and weak in most African countries; in addition, they point to a shortage of skills in science and engineering, and university curricula that tend to be irresponsive to industry s needs (The World Bank 2009). Moreover, because of a lack of expertise and financial resources, many African countries are not able to develop sound science, technology and innovation policies (World Bank 2009; UNESCO and The African Union2009). It is the act of preserving food, maintaining its best quality for a given amount of time; other than that, it is a field of science that is dedicated to the lengthening of food shelf life, maintaining better food quality and taste, ensuring the safe consumption of food through the control of the biological, chemical, or physical factors and many more. According to Ashiya (2011), food preservation has multiple functions that may be essential to the survival of the human race; these may be, the addition of variety to diet, the stabilization of food prices, reduction of time and effort required for preparation, and the allowing of consumption of climate specific food at any given time. Nummer (2002) mentioned that, food preservation has spread throughout every civilization at any given point in time. Mankind had to domesticate his surroundings in order to survive, learning to settle down and stop their nomadic tendencies. The society expects that once an individual comes out of the correctional facility, he is a reformed person. In addition, these facilities are always expected to warn the law abiding citizens to deter them from committing a crime for fear of being in the correctional cells. However, the population in the correction facilities especially prisons is contrary to this expectation. Over time, there is increased number of offenders. This comprises of the new offenders and the repeat offenders. This causes overcrowding in the correctional facilities which is a challenge to the society. The focus of this problem is the social effect of overcrowding to the judicial system and ways of addressing the challenge. Overcrowding in correctional institutions Crime is punishable for three reasons namely retribution, prevention and deterrence. The main purpose of incarcerating offenders is to stop them from repeating previous crimes they committed. Appraising the current American system using these standards, the deterrence category has failed miserably, insufficient in prevention and providing unsatisfactory retribution through detention. Attempts to deter released criminals who are convicted are dismissed by the recidivism s high rate (Tish Burbank, 2009). This is evident through the rising population of new offenders undeterred from crime. Many gangs and offenders recruit and carry out

The void that is too often filled, the thing that is too often forgotten. Today s society has been trained to avoid silence. In a world where our senses are constantly assaulted by sound, silence has become awkward, uncomfortable, and sometimes, even downright terrifying. We fill our world with sound, from the moment we wake up in the morning to the moment we fall asleep at night. The loud, insistent beep of the alarm clock, the ringing of cell phones, the slamming of doors, and the hum of the radio invade every sphere of our lives. Our generation is no longer taught to spend time contemplating who we are as individuals. Rather, our focused energy is on the distractions that are so easily available to us. We look for every possible way to run from solitude instead of turning inward and spending time alone with our own thoughts and emotions. • 55. Basic Recommender System Techniques For Creating A New... Several ways have been proposed for combining basic recommender system techniques to create a new hybrid system. The earlier survey of hybrids approaches [40] identified seven different types such as weighted, switching, mixed, feature combination, feature augmentation, cascade and meta level [114]. A weighted hybrid recommender is one in which the score of a recommended item is computed from the results of all of the available recommendation techniques present in the system [40]. The score of different recommendation components is combined numerically. Weighted combination model which implements collaborative and content based methods separately and combines their predictions with giving adjustable weight to both recommendation [50, 115].The benefit of a weighted hybrid is that all of the system s capabilities are brought to bear on the recommendation process in a straightforward way and it is easy to perform post hoc credit assignment and adjust the hybrid accordingly [40]. Liu et al. [116] proposed another hybrid recommendation system to deal with the problems of content based, demographic filtering and collaborative filterings, such as sparsity and scalability. To resolve the sparsity problem, blanks in the user item rating matrix are п¬Ѓrst п¬Ѓlled with a weighted average rating on items which a user has rated, where the weight of the rated item is calculated by the similarity between an unrated item and the rated item in their feature values. Then, collaborative filtering
