How To Write Good Descriptive Essays
Writing an essay on the topic "How To Write Good Descriptive Essays" can be quite challenging,
as it involves a level of self-reflection and meta-cognition. Essentially, you're tasked with not
only imparting knowledge on writing descriptive essays but also demonstrating your own
proficiency in the craft through the essay itself.
One of the initial hurdles is the inherent paradox of instructing others on effective descriptive
writing while striving to embody those very principles in your own work. It requires a delicate
balance between being informative and illustrative. Crafting vivid imagery and sensory details in
your essay becomes a priority, adding an additional layer of complexity.
Moreover, the challenge lies in avoiding clichГ©s and maintaining originality. Descriptive
writing thrives on unique perspectives and fresh expressions, making it crucial to steer clear of
overused phrases and generic descriptions. This demands a thorough understanding of the
nuances of language and a keen eye for detail.
The structure of the essay also becomes a crucial element. It's not just about conveying
information logically; it's about doing so in a way that captivates the reader's imagination.
Striking the right balance between providing guidance and keeping the reader engaged can be a
daunting task.
Additionally, the constant need for self-evaluation during the writing process can be mentally
taxing. Ensuring that every piece of advice given in the essay is exemplified within the essay
itself requires meticulous attention to detail and a willingness to revise and refine continuously.
In conclusion, tackling an essay on "How To Write Good Descriptive Essays" demands more
than just knowledge of the subject matter; it necessitates a practical application of the principles
discussed. The difficulty lies not only in conveying the information effectively but in embodying
the very essence of descriptive writing throughout the essay.

Email Encryption is the very important topic of todays need. Because it provides the
proper security to the message. And in now days everybody wants the proper
security for our message so that the original message as it is read by the recipient
that are send by the sender without any changes/alternation in the message. So this is
the very important topic to cover up and secure our messages from unauthorized user
s access. That provide the security to our communication. So, we can easily
communicate without any afraid of hacking of data.
INTRODUCTION: Encryption is the most effective way to provide the data security.
It is a process which converts original information into a difficult to interpret form.
The original information is known as plain text and the converted information
/message is commonly known as cipher text.
In now a days you email delicate, individual and business data to your recipients,
then encryption is likely a need. But still 99% of all emails movement goes
The Cloud Storage Is Not A Safe Service
Abstract
The research seeks to elucidate whether people should have an expectation of
privacy with regard to electronic storage, i.e. cloud storage. The background of the
problem under consideration is a scandal with American celebrities whose nude
pictures were illegally stolen and published online on autumn 2014. In fact, they
were stolen from the celebrities iPhones through iCloud service. A big scandal not
only revealed a private life of famous US people, but also disclosed vulnerability of
Apple s products and incompetency of their computer engineers.
The evidence gathered in this research reveal that soon after iCloud was presented by
Steve Jobs to the users, several experts of computing companies and Institute of
Technologies have investigated the cloud service and tested its operational options,
security and vulnerability. Their independent research reports have the common
idea: cloud storage is not a safe service yet. Many of its options should be improved.
iCloud is not advisable service to use as it stores all private information online from
the devices even they are locked. The process of information backup occurs in a way
users do not notice. The fact that three years later after the introduction of iCloud the
service has been hacked means that even the best experts cannot control cloud
storage and users cannot have an expectation of privacy with regard to cloud storage.

An Excerpt From The Curse Of Trixy
The Curse Of
Trixy
The lights flickered and then went out, then the sirens started, she was coming,
and we knew it wouldn t be the last. For one hundred eighty six years our town has
been stuck under the curse of the snake, the curse of Trixy. Every two years a
statue of an interminable snake in the center of our town came to life. She would
then terrorize the town, slaughtering people left and right. She called herself Trixy,
and every time she comes people say she gets stronger. Her massacre has already
begun, and all I can do is sit helplessly in a safe house. Helplessly. I hate being
helpless.
People around me are praying that their friends and family will live, some crying
because of who s already died. I know my sister is gone. ... Show more content on

Slowly, Trixy gazed across the room, her icy blue eyes like slits. How odd. I
thought this would be hard, looks like I had thought wrong. She hissed evilly.
Suddenly, I heard a baby s cry. My aunt, Josephine held her baby boy close to her
chest, repeating the same little lullaby. The poor thing! Trixy slithered over to her,
leering at the baby hungrily. I couldn t bear this anymore. I yank out my pocket
knife and I slowly snuck over to Trixy. She obviously heard me, for she turned
around and and smiled. Well, well, well, isn t this interesting. A mortal verses a
being of amazing power... I wonder who will win this fight? Her little tongue,
black as the night sky, popped in and out as she spoke. Suddenly, a rush of
adrenaline went through me. I was being talked to like I was a five year old
weakling! Heh, I always thought you d be bigger than this. I taunted coolly. If I
could get her out of the safe house with taunts, she just might get shot by our police
officers. Just like before. Except this time, she hopefully won t go back to her
statue to heal. Trixy glared at me and hissed,l What? I smiled, trying not to let my
voice shake or let my knees wobble. Yeah, you re ten times smaller than I imagined.
Also that icy glare of yours is like a cat glare. A house cat glare! It really isn t that

Essay on Hunger
Unrelenting Hunger Hunger , by Lan Samantha Chang, is a cautionary tale of an
immigrant Chinese family in this complex story about unrelenting hunger,
oppression, love and loss. Narrated by Min; the deeply unhappy and obedient wife
of Tian, a gifted violinist, finds work as a music teacher in New York, but ultimately
fails to land a permanent job at the school. Driven by personal failure and his
unrelenting hunger for the violinTian cruelly forces his two daughters, Anna and
Ruth to play the violin, so they can follow in his footsteps. Tian s inability to
separate himself from his violin ends up destroying his family. Chang uses Tian s
obsessive hunger for the violin as a symbol of his identity, showing us that we must

Because of this sacrifice he sees his violin as his main identity; he is a violinist,
and he must honor that at all costs. He can t allow himself to enjoy anything else in
life for fear that he sacrificed everything for nothing. The great irony here is that
this all consuming obsession with the violin leaves him bereft of any time or
desire to spend time with his wife and children, unless it involves the violin, which
ultimately causes them to reject him too. When Tian s own dream dies he
ruthlessly pushes music on his daughters in order to allow him to live vicariously
through them. Anna, the oldest, tries to win her father s love through the violin
but ends up having a mediocre sense of pitch (54) and Tian can no longer stand to
teach Anna the violin. Min notices when he looked at Anna he saw nothing but his
own struggles; he hated her difficulties, but he especially hated his own. (55); this
immense self hatred, and lack of an identity outside of the violin, causes him to
viciously force Ruth to become a violinist. Despite her lack of interest and the fact
that she cries during every practice, Tian does not care as he sees promise in her.
He yells at Ruth Do you understand? From now on, you work. You practice every

Tian that his daughter has no real desire to play the
The Role of Civil Society in Democracy
The Role of Civil Society in Democracy

As one looks at the history of democracy, it is common to detect an undertone, a
rush of voices clamoring for purchase in the debate regarding how the country will
be governed. It is my belief that this undertone is the footprint of civil society, a
segment of democratic societies that often can be difficult to identify. Much has
been said about how difficult civil society is to define. However, as I read the
various definitions and came to my own conclusion, it seemed to me that we should
look at civil society as the vital foundation on which democracy is built. There are
definitely challenges and civil society is not perfect, but democracy itself is ... Show

I believe that Brian O Connell elucidates an important pre condition for the strong
civil society that developed in this country when it was simply a part of the British
Empire (O Connell, 1999). When British settlers first came to North America, it
was a largely untamed wilderness, and to some degree the first settlers were entirely
on their own, since many of them were religious dissidents, seeking a place to
practice the faith they deemed to be correct. The colonies that were set up by the
British largely came once they were made aware of the natural bounty that existed in
North America. The first settlers isolation and the subsequent isolation that even the
official British colonies experienced forced people to organize and to create
associations; institutions such as churches, granges, unions, public services such as
fire companies, sheriff s offices, and militias (O Connell, 1999). These institutions
began to represent the American experience, as our means of socialization and
support. Therefore, as I see it, civil society came first and in truth created the
framework upon which our founding fathers laid our representative democracy. The
groups and institutions that were created during the settling of North America gave
America the confidence to legally declare its separation from Great Britain. As I see
it, the successful
I Attended The Temple College Vocal Point Concert
I attended the Temple College Vocal Point concert on November 1, 2016 at 12:30
pm in the Jackson Graeter Backstage Theatre. The Theatre, located in the Mary
Alice Marshal Performing Arts Center, at Temple College is small, seating
approximately 100 people. Since the setting is quaint, it makes for a personal
experience, allowing the audience to truly see and hear the entertainers character.
The stage size also has a downside, at times the actors would trip over each other
while dancing. The Vocal Point concert titled From Rent to Now: The last 20 Years
of Broadway: is directed by Dr. Sara Baker. This Contemporary Broadway show
consists of sixteen characters. It is a spoof on musicals. The opening scene played by
Trey Shonkwiler and Konnor Widmann was funny, and catchy. They sang A Musical
from Something Rotten! Shonkwiler is a Tenor, while Widmann is a Baritone.
Together they made beautiful harmonies, they complimented each other vocally, and
as actors very well. The next song Mama Who Bore Me from Spring Awakening was
sung by all the women, with a soloist. Kristen Garth has a lovely altovoice, her
performance was unconfident, and a bit nervous, she had a few notes that were flat,
overall it was nice. There were a few moments where the background singers were
too loud, overpowering the soloist. When He Sees Me, from Waitress, sung by Kris
Glorsorio was wonderful. She has a beautiful Alto/ Mezzo voice. She connected
wholly with her character, I thought the balance of head
Tuskegee Ethical Dilemmas
4. The Tuskegee Study was a classic example of ethics abuse in research. What were
three wrongs committed in that study?
The first ethical violation surrounds confidentiality. According to research,
confidentiality is not an issue when observing large groups, where individual
responses or actions are not considered or when participants identifiable information
is not involved. Even in cases where there are large groups being assessed it is up to
the researcher to use good judgment in making decisions regarding what information
should be shared (Explorable, 2018). In the Tuskegee Syphilis Experiment, individual
responses/ reactions were taken into consideration and each participant s identifiable
information was used. Thus, the participants ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The Characteristics Of Ed Gein And The Leatherface
In 1974, director Tobe Hooper revolutionized horror with his film inspired by a true
story, THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE. Almost immediately after the film
s release, rumors began to circulate that there was an actual chainsaw wielding
madman living with his deranged family in the town of Poth, Texas. The inspired
events were also said to have taken place on August 18th, 1973. However, a quick
check of that date reveals that the film had just wrapped four days prior, making it
fairly difficult to base a film on an actual event that had yet to occur. Despite this,
there was an actual skin wearing maniac that was the film s inspiration.
He may not have had a chainsaw, but serial killer Ed Gein was a key inspiration for the
infamous Leatherface. Born in 1906 in Plainfield, Wisconsin, Ed Gein lived most of
his life as a reclusive loner. Born to an alcoholic father, George, and a fanatically
religious mother, Augusta, Ed Gein suffered heavy psychological and physical abuse
at the hands of his parents. Classmates remember Ed as being reclusive with strange
habits. One of his most unnerving habits was to randomly laugh out loud as though
someone had told a joke that only he could hear.

The Invisible World By The Salem Witch Trials
During the Salem Witch Trials, Bridget Bishop was not granted a fair trial due to
legal issues with the court proceedings. If this trial were to happen again in modern
time the trail and out come would have been drastically different. The Invisible
World by Cotton Mather is an excellent example of how Bridget Bishop was granted
a fair trail during the Salem Witch Trials. Cotton Matherwas a very well educated
man and respected member of the community. He graduated from Harvard at 16
with his undergraduate degree and at 19 he completed his masters degree from
Harvard. (Hudson 2015) Due to his education level he was a very creditable source
and his opinions were looked at higher than the average citizen.
According to Mather he wants to prove that there never were witches (Mather 1862,
129). His goal was to prove that the evidence being brought up was only spectral
evidence, which is evidence that could not be proven (Hudson 2015). Most of the
testimonies were all here say and would have been very difficult to prove without a
reasonable doubt that they truly happened. Whenever there was a testimony that
included another person seeing what Bishop did, the other witnesses testimony was
not included. So there was no evidence to collaborate what was said. In testimony

Walt Whitman is a famous poet in American history and the founder of free style of
writing poem. He was well known with his work of Leaves of Grass and Drum

style of writing after experiencing the horrible result of the war. Walt Whitmanwas
born in West Hills, Long Island, on May 31, 1819. He is the second son of eight

Walt Whitman s careers in journalism gained him interest in literature and

he was 15 years old, he was able to publish his first article In Olden Times when
working at the Star in 1834 (Oliver 9). In 1855, Walt Whitman published his famous
book of poems Leaves of Grass. Whitman introduced a new style of poetry to the
poetry history which now called the free verse. Whitman was also famous with his
revision of Leaves of Grass. Throughout his life, he published eight different edition
of Leaves of Grass. Besides Leaves of Grass, Walt Whitman also produced another
great work of literature Drum Taps.
The Civil War inspired Walt Whitman to write another great literature Drum Taps.
The news of his younger brother s wounded in the war made him go down to

poems into one work called Drum Taps.

The Importance Of Music In The Socialization Of
Children...
Music plays and important role in the socialization of children and adolescents.
Music is ubiquitous and easily available, whether through the radio, social media or
other media outlets. It provides entertainment, and is often utilized as a distraction to
relieve stress or boredom. However, as lyrics become more vulgar and explicit, the
effect that certain genres of music, such as rap, hip hop and heavy metal, have on
youth, has become of paramount concern. Research has been conducted on whether a
child s or teenager s preference in those types of music could be correlated with
negative behaviors. Delinquent behaviors of youth who listen to those genres of
music are often attributed to the music itself, rather than how the child current mental
or emotional state. Parents, unfortunately, are often unaware of their child s musical
habits. Therefore, when a child exhibits any type of negative behavior, the parent
frequently tries to conjure a reason for this misbehavior; More often than not, when
there is not a reasonable cause to the delinquency, many parents blame the particular
genre of music that their child listens to. This attributes to the negative connotation
that is often associated with heavy metal, rap and hip hop music. All genres of music
are a form of expression meant to entertain certain audiences: not to be negatively
thought of, because of how certain people react to it. In order to reduce the negative
connotation associated with heavy metal, rap and hip hop

Mary Shelley s Frankenstein And The Bride Of
Frankenstein...
It is amazing how words on a page take a life of their own once they are written. An
author s story can take readers away on a magic carpet ride, to a magical castle that
anything can happen in Britain, even through a wardrobe to a land far away and
draft them in the battle of a lifetime. But what is even more fascinating is that unlike
humans, the words on the page never changes. From this moment to 200 years from
now, the words on this page will always be the same, it is only the reader and the
world around them that changes. Take for example Mary Shelley s Frankenstein. In
1818, Shelley had a nightmare that lead her to write her novel as a personification of
the Victorian Culture s fascination of science and death. In 1934, director James
Whaleadapted the material into The Bride of Frankensteinfilm, and was an allegory
for pre WWII unity, then in 1997, someone interpreted the film as a homosexual
allegory for the 1990 s. This paper will examine how Mary Shelley adapted her
nightmare into an allegory for her Victorian era audience, how James Whale used
her original text to turn The Bride of Frankenstein into a message of unity for a pre
WWII audience, as well as how Garry Morris uses Whale s film to create a pro same
sex marriage message out of the text in 1997.
Mary Shelley adapted her nightmare of a mad scientist bringing a dead body back to
life, into a text that reflects Victorian Customs is by featuring the importance of

The Raven s Annabel Lee
Unlike The Raven s narrator, the narrator of Annabel Lee does not perform actions
throughout the poem. Instead, his action is limited to the second and ending stanzas.
He does, however, react emotionally to the action of the angels. In the second stanza,
he [loves] with a love that [is] more than love and Annabel Leeloves the narrator
back in the same fashion. Additionally, she lived with no other thought/ Than to
love and be loved by the narrator. This is their soul purposes in life. Even though she

It was many and many a year ago begins the narrator, reminiscent of the once upon
a time introduction of fairytales ( Annabel Lee 1). This fairytale like introduction
to the poem gives it an air magic and mystery. The vagueness characterizes the
narrator s feelings toward everything else. The setting does not really matter to
him. Annabel Lee does. Since nothing else matters, he is able to completely ignore
death and thus death has no power over him as it does with the narrator of The
Raven. Likewise, the same fairytale like introduction hints at timelessness and
immortality. Time cannot touch his love. His love cannot decay nor can it be
controlled. He has his happy ending characteristic of fairytales. He has an immortal
love that will never die. In addition to the fairytale aspect of the poem, Annabel Lee
s sepulcher is by the sea, implying that it has a view of the horizon an infinite view (
Annabel Lee 40). This view and the fairytale quality symbolizes the immortality of
their love. Death cannot touch the love, being immortal. It therefore has no power to
control any aspect of the relationship between the poem s narrator and his beautiful

The election of 2008 couldn t have come sooner for many Americans. The United
States was coming off one of the worst recessions in the country s history, and
Americans were eager for a change. The incumbent republican president George W.
Bush had seen his approval ratings dip to the low 30s ( Presidential Approval

nominated the young dynamic Illinois senator Barack Obama, a leader who many

It is probably the best way to measure the success and growth of a country s
economy. In the past century on average, the United States economy grew annually
at roughly 3.1%. This number is generally considered the basemark for economic
success, with anything above it denoting an above average economy, and anything
below it signifying a below average economy. Every single president since Herbert
Hoover during the great depression of the late 1920s and early 1930s has managed to
create at least one year of above average economic growth, except for one. The
economy under president Obama failed to hit the 3% mark for any of his eight
years as president (Gillin). This is a rather unprecedented level of economic
stagnation, and one that no modern president besides Obama has managed to fall
to. Obama was not a particularly good president when it came to labor participation
rates either. During his presidency, the labor force participation rate fell to its
lowest in over 35 years ( Unemployment ). Many people argue that Obama was
dealing with the aftermath of a recession and thus his economic performance should
be judged more favorably. This is a contradictory statement, as it is easier to improve
something that is bad than it is to improve something that is already successful. Also,
the United States economy historically tends to have a large boom after a
How Bodybuilding Has Changed Over Time
Bodybuilding is a form of sport that aims to make the body to be in a great physical
condition and also enhance health. The sport makes both the body and the mind fit
and thus, eliminate common health conditions associated with living sedentary
lifestyles. Bodybuilding entails extreme body workout and training as well as
healthy eating to attain the desired physique (Elledge 33). It is believed to decrease
risk factors associated with the development of coronary heart diseases. Through
taking part in aerobic exercises and weight training, people have higher chances of
lessening and managing high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and obesity. The
process also makes the body muscles strong and flexible (Cross 41). Bodybuilding
has come of ages and has evolved intensively. Its history dates back to late 1800s but
the dynamics and objectives of the sport have changed over time. The focus is to
analyze bodybuilding sport of the ancient times and comparing it to the nature of the
sport today in terms of priorities and objectives.
Bodybuilding dates back to the 19th century specifically 1890s when weight training
commenced in the world. The practice took place in Greece and Egypt where people
lifted stones purposely to have huge muscles and physique bodies. However, as an

Ho was determined to achieve independence for the region. The French wanted to
regain power and took badly to Ho s proclaiming the former Indochina as The
Democratic Republic of Vietnam in September, as the British had persuaded the allies
to return power to the French in October (Palmer, 1984).
At this time bi polarity was not yet fully entrenched and Ho appealed to the U.S. in
his September speech to the masses, drawing on The American Declaration of
Independence (ibid.). America influenced the celebrations and professed its
friendship to the new state. However, this did not last and reasons for America s
turnaround are many. During WW2 the US had viewed Indochina as of limited
importance but they began to reassess the situation (Herring, 1986).
France responded to Ho s proclamation by enlisting Britain s help in expelling the
Vietminh from the south of the country, creating a division between Ho s North
Vietnam and French South Vietnam. This was followed by fruitless attempts to
negotiate an agreement between the French and Vietminh that lasted over a year. For
the Vietminh, unification was vital for the country s survival as food production was
mostly in the south, but the French refused to budge. Hostility increased until, in
November 1946 France shelled Haiphong killing 6000 civilians, tragically beginning
the Vietnam War (ibid.)
The Effects Of Mass Media And Communication On The
Society
Media Message
Introduction
Behavioral sciences play a central role in figuring out the likely effect of mass
media and communication in the society. Different theories and approaches are used
to figure this out. This study refers to the Uses and Gratifications, and Cultivation
theories to consider the effect of the media article below on individuals. The uses
and gratification theory argues that consumers of a given media uses this media to
satisfy and fulfill specific desires and needs. On the other hand, cultivation theory
holds that heavy exposure to a certain media can cause an individual to have an
illusory perception of the life reality based on the most consistent and repetitive
message that is given in this media (Fourie, 2011).

The packaging is attractive, impressive and long. The top comes off, which contains
the clamp. The bottom tube contains the immersion cooker. The sous vive stick is
bigger than what it appears in the picture. It comes with an instruction manual. The
stick is about 14 inches long. The clamps top knob controls the tightness around the
precision cooker and the lower knob controls the tightness of the container or pot.
The container or pot can have a thickness of 1 inch. The clamp can also easily fit a
cooler. The safety levels are indicated on the cooker. If you do not have the
minimum amount of water, it s going to ring an alarm. You roughly need two and a
half inches of water in the bottom of the precision cooker and not to go past 6
inches. The stainless steel sleeve is removable. Underneath the sleeve are the heating
element, the probes and the impeller. At the very bottom of the metal sleeve is a
directional port. You can adjust the port to move the water in a different direction.
Just remove the bottom piece and reposition the nozzle. The electrical cord is roughly
30 inches. Operating the precision cooker manually is actually pretty simple. The
large number is the current temperature and the small number is the set temperature.

Great War Causes
The First World War was only a catalyst for the war, not the principle cause as there
were several precursors stretching back over a century. World War I had no one
cause, however, the principle cause was increasing frustrations with their leader s
inability to maintain their increasing standard of life. The Great War worked as a
catalyst by creating an environment conducive to revolution, focusing all of the
causes in one place at one time, with the focal point being February and March of
1917. The source of power for this revolution began at the end of the 18th century,
simultaneously building the arsenal against Nicholas II s autocratic, repressionist
regime. The revolution was generally of contemporarily liberal origins, however, it

The great reforms quelled the demands of the peasants for the time being, however, it
may have attributed further to the demand for revolution in the next century. The
freeing of the serfs created a movement within the peasant population as communes
were the centre of Russian civilization, and eighty five percent of the Russian
population were peasants. One particular historian outlines this nicely by claiming It
was the fruit of progressive social changes in society, a consequence of the
economic and civic freedom that had been conferred on the huge masses of people
who previously had no rights, the results of the development of the market economy
and a rise in needs and expectations that was previously
Alexander The Great Was Responsible For Developing
World
During the fourth century, the ancient world was rocked by a dynamic political
figure from the unlikely territory of Macedon. Alexander the Great was responsible
for developing one of the largest empires the ancient world had ever witnessed. His
military campaigns yielded major territorial gains across multiple continents, earning
him incredible authority and prestige up to his untimely death. With the Macedonian
throne newly vacant, a power vacuum developed as military elites sought to seize
control over the empire. Known as the Successors, these individuals worked to build
off of the success of Alexander and establish their own dominion over new lands. In
their time as monarchs, Alexander and the Successors were responsible for the
livelihood of numerous populations, including the Greek world. Alexander and the
Successors maintained a strictly political relationship with the Greeksas their
monarchs, taking on the responsibilities the kingship demanded.
As a political figure, the ability to win loyalty was crucial to the acquisition of
royal power. For this reason, it was necessary for Alexander and the Successors to
maintain amicable relations with their Greek citizens. A significant role Alexander
and the Successors assumed over the Greeks was military champions. During his
military quests Alexander founded numerous cities in his name, adding to his already
impressive empire. Since he was incapable of overseeing his vast kingdom by
himself, he installed satraps to
Lake Wales Charter Schools System
Lake Wales Charter Schools system (LWCS) opened its doors to the first students in
August of 2004. LWCS faces several challenges, including educating a large migrant
population and high poverty rates. Serving over 4,000 students in Lake Wales,
Florida, superintendent of schools Jesse L. Jackson and his administration have
worked to foster an internal culture of collaboration and communication to
innovatively engage their students and families.
The school food service program had underperformed for years and had been
siphoning valuable dollars from limited education funds to support operations. To
make matters more troublesome, implementing the Healthy Hunger Free Kids Act
was presenting a major challenge. Meal participation had been declining, and in
2011, LWCS had to use $77,000 dollars from the general fund to cover foodservice
shortfalls. During an audit, SLA was recommended to LWCS as a solution to their
food service issues and as a partner that could customize a program to fit their multi
cultural and school community culture.
Over the last three years, SLA has exceeded everyone s expectation. There has been
a noticeable improvement of food quality, variety, and value. Nearly a thousand more
meals are served daily. LWCS received numerous compliments when the switch in
companies was made from students, parents, and staff. Education scores are on the
rise and the success is attributed by Rich Colombo as due in part to the increased
consumption of meals and alternative

Who is Cisco?
Cisco is one of the most powerful and successful corporation in the IP network
industry. In the fiscal 2013 their revenue totaled $48.6 billion and their Net Income
was $10.0 billion (Cisco 2013 Annual Report).

The turning point arrived soon. In January of 1994 Cisco systems failed. Thus the
inability of the system to perform forced towards the utilization of unauthorized
methods for accessing the core application database which lead to the corruption of
Cisco s database. Consequently the company shut down virtually for two days.
Seeking for a new start
After the shutdown managers realized that the autonomous approach was not
sufficient. There was the need for a more integrated action, indeed separated decisions
among the departments would have taken too long. As a result the company gathered
an Implementation Team to investigate on the replacement of the application.
Thanks to the previous experience of the SVP of manufacturing Carl Redfield it was
clear that the implementation of IT projects can take a long time to be effective. In
order to make the implementation as quick as possible Redfield suggested to
implement the project all at once and to do not personalize the new system. Projects
that are divided into phases and customized tend to take longer time to be efficient,
and many times they tend to become only an adaptation of the previous method. He
suggested also to make the implementation a priority for every department: the
involvement of the entire company is important for the effectiveness of the project.
Other than selecting within the company the best components for the Implementation
Team, it was important also finding

The relationship between teacher and student in Expeditionary Learning mirrors that
of a mentor and apprentice. The nature of the program requires facilitators to use
their own experiences as reference points for students. How one has or continues to

overseeing individualized work and be technologically proficient. Students will have
access to a variety of connected devices. Expectations are that students will use these
devices to conduct research, connect with others who can also serve as mentors, and

Women s Work And Worship Of The First Century
Churches
Women in Paul s Letters: Women played an important role in the work and
worship of the first century churches. In Paul s letters he portrays women as equals
to men. Paul s ideas were to renew a community of God s people; including all
races, sexes, and religious backgrounds. While some people will argue that Paul is
all for the equality of women, others say that he is misogynistic. Some things that
were written may sound harsh to our ears in today s society; however, when
considering the era that these letters were written in, most of the things that were
written would not have been taken in a bad way. In Paul s letters women had
various roles and positions, Phoebe was a deacon and a benefactor. Paul perceived
Andronicus and Junia as prominent among the apostles . (Romans 16:7). In
Romans Verse 12 he describes Tryphaena and Tryphosa as workers in the Lord .
While he didn t really place restrictions or limits on women he did encourage
women to wear a head dress while worshiping in Corinthians 11:2 17. He also
stated in Corinthians 14:33b 36 that women should be silent in the churches. This
contradicts his acceptance of women from his previous statements in Corinthians
11. In Romans 16:1 2 we are introduced to Phoebe who was a deacon and a
benefactor. A benefactor is someone who gives money or helps a person for a cause.
In the first few lines of Romans 16 it is said I commend to you our sister Phoebe, a
deacon of the church in Cenchreae. I ask you to receive her in

Cradle Vs PET Bottles
According journalist Eric Goldschein, the United States drank 9 billion gallons of
water in 2008 (Business Insider). Therefore, in order to prevent access waste and
build up of plastic from the water bottles, many different varieties of reusable water
bottles on the market today advertise the message of an eco friendly product. This
message, however, can be easily adulterated and twisted in the manufacturer s favor
for simply business purposes, thus promoting bottles that have only the perk of
being used many times before they are eventually discarded, ultimately falsifying the
term reusable . When compared to the message of perpetual reusability, as well as
the five steps to eco effectiveness, put forth in the book Cradle to Cradle... Show

Although reusable plastics are more resistant to the factors that cause this
limitation, it does not mean plastic products fall prey to off gassing. Factors such
as sun exposure, microwave radiation, and the heat from being washed in a
dishwasher all help contribute to plastic off gassing. Some BPA free reusable
bottles have even been found to contain and release estrogen like synthetics that are
even more harmful than the ever feared BPA. Reusable bottles also have a
mechanical flaw: structure. Despite their impact resistant guarantee, if they hit a
surface hard enough they can, and will crack. Obviously if the bottle gains a major
structural flaw such as a crack it is going to be thrown away by the owner and find
itself in a landfill amongst its PET cousins, free to leak its chemicals into the
surrounding environment.
Bottle manufacturers should stop using plastic in general. Plastic bottles, especially
PET plastic bottles, have a nasty tendency to off gas, thus releasing dangerous
chemicals into the users drink. These chemicals rage from antimony to phthalates, as
well as other endocrine disrupters and synthetic estrogens. This leaching of harmful
chemicals is the cause of the plastic bottles popularity decline. Nonetheless, there are
many other styles of drink bottle to choose from, ranging from glass to stainless
Narrative Essay On Speeding
I have been a reckless driver over my brief time driving. I had times when I would
speed when I was in a hurry. I would also go fast for the sake of going fast because
it was determined to be cool. I have had my fair share of reckless burnouts, and that
impatient mindset has caused many mishaps in my driving. I even got into a minor

Electronic health records (EHRs) are becoming more common among health care

This song is composed by Nujabes and performed by Cise Starr and Akin. The
composer himself is very accomplished, influencing an entire genre of music. This
song is very rhythmic and has identifiable beats. The song has a message that I
hold with high regard, as I share the beliefs of the composer. It is the first track in one
of my favourite albums Modal Soul. It also references one of my favourite books
Flowers for Algernon.
The smooth blend of jazz and hip hop instrumentals as well as the melodic tune of
the piano, complemented by the rough voices of Cise Starr and Akin make this song
very enjoyable. Having listened to many of his other songs, I highly admire Nujabes
for his deep commitment to his craft and his ability to produce beautiful music that
combines multiple genres. In many of his other songs, hip hop beats are also often
blended with jazz influences to create a mellow atmospheric sound. Moreover, I also
admire Nujabes for contributing to the original soundtrack of my favorite show,
Samurai Champloo.
We chose to analyze this song because we felt it presented an uplifting, yet complex
and unique take on how people should strive to live their lives in this complicated
world.
Meaning This song is about being able to achieve spiritual harmony regardless of the
circumstances that one is presented. Seeing the headlines lined with discord, It s

Business Ethics and Law
Business Law Scenario 1: Falsifying a Resume (Ethics and Law Chapter 2) Peter
Crist is almost always correct. The reality is that if someone lies or covers stuff up,
most of the time they will be found out eventually be it in two days or in 20 years.
However, the reality is that some people do lie and cover stuff up in professional
and personal situations and are never exposed. Sometimes this is because they re
in a situation where dishonesty is prized, other times it s because the people
around them turn a blind eye to what they see because they don t want to know the
truth. Other times, it s because the person engaging in the dishonesty is so crafty
and so quick that the trickery and subterfuge is almost inscrutable. However, the
fact remains that Crist is correct. Often people are found out because those who are
engaging in the trickery have so much hubris and so much arrogance that they
engage in bolder and bolder moves, believing that they will never be caught. One
example of that from the recent past is of Bernie Madoff. His crime was a simple
Ponzi scheme which grew larger and larger in size and scale to the point where he
couldn t help but be found out. In this case, the fact that Ms. Jones was found out was
somewhat expected: she advanced to such a position of power within the institution
that she was almost one of their public figures, which meant that her credentials
would be under greater scrutiny. The reason that people falsify their resumes is partly

The Ancient Greek Society
Competition in ancient Greece set their society apart from the rest of the world
and became a greater influence on modern society. Competition was pride and a
sense of bettering oneself to achieve greater goals. Hesiod is the first to correlate
man to material. He describes mankind in five races of earthly material based upon
their malleability. Overtime the Greeks develop this theory into a popular
mindset, craftsmen and the product. Man becomes what he creates. The desire to
learn and grow invests itself in competition by the conception of medicine, sports,
art, writing, language, and war. Everything in Greek society was recognized as
either a tool or a product. Men developed their bodies in gymnasiums, children
expanded their minds in schools, the body was made immune and strong with
medicines, and the brain was built on words, conversation inspired by art,
territories seized by war. Inspired by the ancient Egyptians and their tradition of
statue portraiture the Greeks decide to develop this further. The Kroisos statue was
born, next the Kritos boy. From then on sculptors would rise to challenge to create
the perfect man, their earthly version of paying God. The Greeks incorporated math
for order and continued on their hopes for perfection. Next they added drama and
movement in marble structures resembling man and the God s. Greeks built off of
other Greeks works. They used past examples as stepping stones for self
improvement. When Greece saw its first example of

in bold flavors and uses ingredients and recipes influenced not only by Israel but
also Eastern Europe, Northern Africa, Persia, and the Eastern Mediterranean. Their
drink menu consists of a small cocktail list that showcases lots of aromatic and
interesting ingredients like mint, verbena, lemon, pumpernickel, rhubarb,
chamomile, turmeric and aleppo. This list fits the theme of the restaurant extremely
well by cross utilizing ingredients that you would normally only think to use with
food, not drinks. There is also a small beer list using beers from all over; New York,
Israel, Iceland, Japan, and Pennsylvania. The wine list is very extensive and has a

How Pentecostalism Is One Of The Major Denomination

utumn Petrolina Hayes, Andrew Anthropology 130 22 February 2016
Pentecostalism Pentecostalism is one of the major denominations of Protestant
Christianity that originated from the Holiness Revival of the 19th century. The
Pentecostal Movement began in Topeka, Kansas at Bethel Bible College,
established by Charles Parham who taught that speaking in tongues was a spiritual
gift that demonstrated as evidence of baptism with the Holy Spirit, a distinct type
of baptism experienced in chapter two of the book of Acts on the day of Pentecost.
On January 1st of 1901, Agnes Ozman, a student at Bethel Bible School, was the
first person to speak in tongues after being baptized with The Holy Spirit. This
marks the beginning of the Pentecostal Revival. In 1905, Parham began preaching
in Houston, Texas where he began a smaller bible school. According to Kevin
Sack, a journalist for The New York Times, an African American pastor named
William Seymour would attend Parham s services though he was made to sit
outside the room and listen through a cracked door. Parham s teachings of baptism
with the Holy Spirit enveloped Seymour, who took this new theology to Los
Angeles in 1906 where he temporarily pastored a small African American Holiness
Church. The church rejected Seymour s claims on tongues as proof of baptism with
The Holy Spirit. The pastor of the church, Julia Hitchins, was outraged by Seymour s
sermon and kicked him out of the church. Seymour moved in with a friend of his,
Apple, Inc., The Electronics And Beats Music
Apple acquires Beats. Apple, Inc., the electronics giant, has acquired Beats Music
and Beats Electronics, the headphones giant, for $3.2 billion. Apple has enough
money to buy or build any company they want to from ground up. So, why did
Apple acquire Beats Electronics and Beats Music? According to NBC News, Apple
CEO Tim Cook told Re/Code that the company could build about anything that you
could dream of, adding that acquiring Beats would give them a head start and add
kindred spirits to company (Wagstaff, 2014). Given the years of musical experience
that both Dr. Dre, a well known legendary artist and music producer and Jimmy
Iovine, the Chairman of Interscope Geffen A M Records have and the energy they
have brought to the hip hop and pop cultures, it is no wonder that Apple would have
made the decision to acquire Beats Electronics and Beats Music. In just six years, Dr.
Dre and Iovine has sealed the whole consumer market for high end headphones. Beats
also unleashed Beats Music, a streaming music service.
The negotiations take place at a critical time: the music market has seen a massive
shift towards streaming and away from downloads. U.S. revenue from downloads
which iTunes dominates dropped 1 percent to $2.8 billion in 2013, while streaming
music revenue from the likes of Pandora and Spotify soared 39 percent to $1.4
billion, according to the Recording Industry Association of America (CBS News/AP,
2014).

The Tudor Family Research Paper
The Tudor Family is a line of Kings and powerful Queens . The Tudor Dynasty
starts with Henry VII . Henry VIII created the Protestant Church of England so he
could divorce his first wife Catherine of Aragon , who was Catholic . He created his
own church because the Pope refused to annul the marriage . Henry had Parliament
pass laws ending the power of the Pope in England. In 1534 the Act of Supremacy
names the King Henry as the head of the Church of England. After Henry s death and
his son Edward s short reign , his daughter Mary I became Queen. Mary made
England Catholic again . When Mary died, Elizabeth was crowned queen and
returned England to Protestant. Queen Elizabeth, like her father Henry had a good
relationship with Parliament. Elizabeth I died in 1603 and a relative of the Tudors
from Scotland became King . James I was the first member of the Stuart dynasty to

James had a hard time getting along with Parliament . James spent his money

that the Church of England be reformed. The Puritans goal was to take power
away from the church officials. James saw this as a threat to his power since the
church supported him and refused to pass the Puritans request for reform. King
James faced many problems during his reign with Parliament unlike the Tudor

Vladimir Putin And Russian Statecraft Summary
The preface and introduction of Vladimir Putin and Russian Statecraft by Allen C.
Lynch introduces the namesake of the book, Vladimir Putin. The purpose of these
is to grab the reader s attention, while also briefly inducting the reader if they are
clueless about the topic. This goal they achieve, they are successful in educating
the reader, as if it was a Wikipedia article. However, while they serve to orient the
reader, the two are very distinct in their focus. The preface focuses on Vladimir
Putin, a brief summary of his upbringing to his 12 years of rule, at the time of the
book s release. The summary explains his rule, but also multiple aspects of his rule.

To note, the West has preconceived notions that were caused, and have lasted, by
the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. Putin s centralization of power, oppressive
control, and military engagements in Georgia and South Ossetia, all these reaffirm
the West s perception that Putin is attempting to return to Soviet Authoritarianism.
However, in Russia, all these actions are seen as necessary. The country was on the
verge of collapse when Putin came to power. Social reforms had upturned the
former way of life and corruption was rampant. In Russian s, and Putin s, eyes, the
country is becoming more modernized. Putin is doing what he sees fit, using his
prior experiences from the two decades before his presidency. Putin is the savior of

Carbohydrates, Proteins, and Fats.
ESSENTIAL COMPONENTS OF A HEALTHY DIET
Carbohydrate in the form of glucose is the main ingredient that provides the energy
and fuel during exercise. Glucose is stored in the muscles as glycogen which is
used as the body exercises to refuel. Muscles are the storage areas for the glycogen
and these need to be continually refilled as we use energy. Adequate carbohydrate is
necessary for the body during exercise as an insufficient amount may lead to fatigue
of the muscles. Some foods that contain a rich amount of carbohydrate are pasta, rice,
bread, fruits and vegetables.
Proteins are the building blocks of muscles and are one of the most essential part of
an athlete s diet. After exercise and training, proteins help to rebuild and repair the
muscle damage and replenish it. Chicken, lamb, beef and many meats are very rich
in protein and should form an important source of protein in the daily diet.
Nowadays, the most common form of protein intake is fulfilled by the numerous
protein supplements in the form of shakes, tablets and bars that have flooded the
market. According to research, these supplements help to enhance performance and
build muscle fast and help in faster recovery processes. There is a wide variety of
protein supplements in the market and one should be careful while selecting what
The Alchemist And Gifted Hands Essay

The quote Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through
experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, ambition inspired,
and success achieved. In my opinion this quote is true because you do need
experience to do or know something. Although reading can give you a lot of
knowledge it s not enough for you in the real world. To become a doctor you
actually need experience but knowledge is just as important. I believe that this quote
can be applied to Gifted Hands: The Ben Carson Story by Ben Carson with Cecil

Compare And Contrast Ancient Greek And Roman Culture
The Romans and Ancient Greeks have impacted culture in a dominant way. Their
models have exerted an evolution that endured through the years. They inspired
development in the areas political, economic and military forces. Their lasting
empires have provided an influence on civilization that is still seen today. Societies
under both empires had a lot alike and differences. Both Empires were alike in that
both started out with them being city states. Also, their religious beliefs were quite
the same. They did not believe in One God with all the control and authority. They
felt that they were quite a few gods and goddesses. The names of the gods and
goddesses did differ due to their different languages (Jenkins, P, 2009). They both

The Greeks were along the Mediterranean coast. Although the Empire was short and
not huge like The Romans their influence was distinguishable. They influenced those
surrounding them including the Romans through their ways of commerce, social
behavior, and colonizing ways along the coast and other nearby seaside Regions. In
contrast, the Romans build a vast centralized state. Their Empire consisted of most of
Northern Africa and Europe. A close knit management and the way their trade was

ideas, moved goods, and people traveled. Their methods would down the road

Poland s Revoked Voting Rights in the European Union The end of the Second
World War created an era of peace for some countries, but for those under the control
of the Soviet Union, life became extremely difficult both socially and politically.
Poland was under the direct authority of the USSR and was subjugated to live with
an authoritarian government, whom did not allow political opposition and freedom.
Decades passed until the USSR collapsed and even then Poland faced rigged
elections and remained under a regime that denied political change. The late twentieth

This hazard came after the government of Poland had reorganized the voting
requirements of the Constitutional Court and altered the structure of the nation s
media outlets. The majority ruling party within Poland, the Law and Justice Party,
also raised moral questions among other EU member states by establishing new
government appointed leaders to the public television and broadcasting agencies.
This new change in judicial processes and media control has led many members of
the European Union to question both the democracy and corruption within the Polish
government and to determine if the new policies have infringed on the EU s values
and morals. Therefore, these recent political fluctuations have lead me to ask what
powers does the EU have to influence a member countries media and court
institutions, why has the EU become worried about Poland, and in which ways will
the EU attempt to sanction Poland for their alterations? This research paper will
elaborate on Poland s recent political changes. It will then analyze how Poland s
changes have raised controversy with the European Union and why the EU was
concerned. Lastly, the research will demonstrate which institutions in the EU have
jurisdiction over such a conflict, and how the European Union will attempt to nullify
Poland s voting rights within the EU.

The Fall Of The House Of Usher Literature Analysis
Literature can be defined as written works, especially those considered of superior or
lasting artistic value. In the short story, The Fall of the House of Usher written by
Edgar Allen Poe, Usher is a senile middle aged man who invites an old friend to his
gothic mansion. While arriving the narrator notices mysterious events beginning to
happen. Also, in House Taken Over written by Julio Cortazar, siblings find
themselves in post WWII Argentina trying to avoid a dangerous entity manifesting
and taking over their house. Gothic Style uses the power of suggestion and
implication when depicting the supernatural, whereas Magical Realism arouses fear
and concern in its audience by including supernatural events in modern society. The

In magical realism the addition of supernatural is a critical role in fulfilling the
purpose of alluding to a more frightening and possible event. Gothic literature is a
style which is very present in Edgar Allen Poe s The Fall of the House of Usher . In
Poe s short story, the narrator is the one to figure out/ imply that these twins are
telepathic. Usher locks up his twin sister and claims to here her cries for help louder
and sooner than the narrator, suggesting their hidden powers (Poe, 29). By suggesting
Usher and his sisters spiritual unity, aspects of Gothic literature are emphasized,
providing evidence for the story to fall under the category of Gothic literature.
Through analyzing House Taken Over , it can be said that the short story is an
example of magical realism. Although not directly stated what, siblings are being
haunted by a supernatural force in the time of late WWII, this haunting is dangerous
and causes siblings to abandon their once cherished house (Cortazar, 42). The fact
that the story takes place in 1946 Argentina right after WWII drives the assumption
that these events may have taken place, a common understanding in magical realism.
The purpose of addition of the supernatural in both styles is used to entertain the
reader and/ or to add some sort of meaning to the text. In gothic text it is meant to
allow the reader to delve into their own dark and mysterious thoughts.
The Ship Of The Cargo
The vessel was traveling outside normal shipping lanes in an attempt to avoid ice.
Within six hours of the grounding, the Exxon Valdez spilled approximately 10.9

states that the vessel encounter icebergs in the shipping lanes caused the decision
of leaving the shipping lanes. However, it is unknown why the orders of returning
to the shipping lanes at a certain point where not followed. However, five probable
causes have been established for the reasons of the spill. One, the third mate failed
to maneuver the vessel correctly, possibly due to fatigue and excessive workload.
Second, the master did not provide a proper navigation watch, possibly due to... Show

From using, a different method to determine the speed at which the oil spill ran I
also found that the oil did not migrate linearly from the spill site in terms of
distance as a function of time. I concluded that there was a non linearity between
day 19 and day 38. This non linearity could be caused by the change in the current
movement in the Gulf of Alaska. Part 3 Design and Methodology: For finding how
fast, the oil moves down the Gulf of Alaska I first found a quick and imprecise rate
of 8.39 miles/day by dividing 470 miles by 56 days. I knew this was not an exact
number, but it gave me somewhere to start. I then turn to excel to find a more
precise rate. I used the days as my y axis and the miles the oil migrated as my x
axis. From creating a graph, I was able to find from the regression equation that the
oil moves at a rate of 7.69 miles/day. The non linearity that I found in the data
shows that the gap happens between day 19 and day 28. In this gap, I found that
the oil spill slowed down to about 1.58 miles/day. I calculated the regression of the
first gap from day 4 to day 19 and found that the oil spill moved at a rate of 13.09
miles/day. Then I did the same for the upper half of the break and found that the oil
spill runs 10.55 miles/day from day 38 to day 56. Seeing these calculations proved
to me the non linearity of the migration of the oil. Part 4 Results and Findings: From
my calculations, I found that the oil moved

  • 3. The Cloud Storage Is Not A Safe Service Abstract The research seeks to elucidate whether people should have an expectation of privacy with regard to electronic storage, i.e. cloud storage. The background of the problem under consideration is a scandal with American celebrities whose nude pictures were illegally stolen and published online on autumn 2014. In fact, they were stolen from the celebrities iPhones through iCloud service. A big scandal not only revealed a private life of famous US people, but also disclosed vulnerability of Apple s products and incompetency of their computer engineers. The evidence gathered in this research reveal that soon after iCloud was presented by Steve Jobs to the users, several experts of computing companies and Institute of Technologies have investigated the cloud service and tested its operational options, security and vulnerability. Their independent research reports have the common idea: cloud storage is not a safe service yet. Many of its options should be improved. iCloud is not advisable service to use as it stores all private information online from the devices even they are locked. The process of information backup occurs in a way users do not notice. The fact that three years later after the introduction of iCloud the service has been hacked means that even the best experts cannot control cloud storage and users cannot have an expectation of privacy with regard to cloud storage. • 4. An Excerpt From The Curse Of Trixy The Curse Of Trixy The lights flickered and then went out, then the sirens started, she was coming, and we knew it wouldn t be the last. For one hundred eighty six years our town has been stuck under the curse of the snake, the curse of Trixy. Every two years a statue of an interminable snake in the center of our town came to life. She would then terrorize the town, slaughtering people left and right. She called herself Trixy, and every time she comes people say she gets stronger. Her massacre has already begun, and all I can do is sit helplessly in a safe house. Helplessly. I hate being helpless. People around me are praying that their friends and family will live, some crying because of who s already died. I know my sister is gone. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Slowly, Trixy gazed across the room, her icy blue eyes like slits. How odd. I thought this would be hard, looks like I had thought wrong. She hissed evilly. Suddenly, I heard a baby s cry. My aunt, Josephine held her baby boy close to her chest, repeating the same little lullaby. The poor thing! Trixy slithered over to her, leering at the baby hungrily. I couldn t bear this anymore. I yank out my pocket knife and I slowly snuck over to Trixy. She obviously heard me, for she turned around and and smiled. Well, well, well, isn t this interesting. A mortal verses a being of amazing power... I wonder who will win this fight? Her little tongue, black as the night sky, popped in and out as she spoke. Suddenly, a rush of adrenaline went through me. I was being talked to like I was a five year old weakling! Heh, I always thought you d be bigger than this. I taunted coolly. If I could get her out of the safe house with taunts, she just might get shot by our police officers. Just like before. Except this time, she hopefully won t go back to her statue to heal. Trixy glared at me and hissed,l What? I smiled, trying not to let my voice shake or let my knees wobble. Yeah, you re ten times smaller than I imagined. Also that icy glare of yours is like a cat glare. A house cat glare! It really isn t that frightening. Trixy kept glaring at me, probably getting ready
  • 5. Essay on Hunger Unrelenting Hunger Hunger , by Lan Samantha Chang, is a cautionary tale of an immigrant Chinese family in this complex story about unrelenting hunger, oppression, love and loss. Narrated by Min; the deeply unhappy and obedient wife of Tian, a gifted violinist, finds work as a music teacher in New York, but ultimately fails to land a permanent job at the school. Driven by personal failure and his unrelenting hunger for the violinTian cruelly forces his two daughters, Anna and Ruth to play the violin, so they can follow in his footsteps. Tian s inability to separate himself from his violin ends up destroying his family. Chang uses Tian s obsessive hunger for the violin as a symbol of his identity, showing us that we must be careful... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Because of this sacrifice he sees his violin as his main identity; he is a violinist, and he must honor that at all costs. He can t allow himself to enjoy anything else in life for fear that he sacrificed everything for nothing. The great irony here is that this all consuming obsession with the violin leaves him bereft of any time or desire to spend time with his wife and children, unless it involves the violin, which ultimately causes them to reject him too. When Tian s own dream dies he ruthlessly pushes music on his daughters in order to allow him to live vicariously through them. Anna, the oldest, tries to win her father s love through the violin but ends up having a mediocre sense of pitch (54) and Tian can no longer stand to teach Anna the violin. Min notices when he looked at Anna he saw nothing but his own struggles; he hated her difficulties, but he especially hated his own. (55); this immense self hatred, and lack of an identity outside of the violin, causes him to viciously force Ruth to become a violinist. Despite her lack of interest and the fact that she cries during every practice, Tian does not care as he sees promise in her. He yells at Ruth Do you understand? From now on, you work. You practice every day (60) to which Ruth responds No no no no (60). It does not seem to matter to Tian that his daughter has no real desire to play the
  • 6. The Role of Civil Society in Democracy The Role of Civil Society in Democracy Keith Sanders July 20, 2013 CIV 410 Victoria Labs As one looks at the history of democracy, it is common to detect an undertone, a rush of voices clamoring for purchase in the debate regarding how the country will be governed. It is my belief that this undertone is the footprint of civil society, a segment of democratic societies that often can be difficult to identify. Much has been said about how difficult civil society is to define. However, as I read the various definitions and came to my own conclusion, it seemed to me that we should look at civil society as the vital foundation on which democracy is built. There are definitely challenges and civil society is not perfect, but democracy itself is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I believe that Brian O Connell elucidates an important pre condition for the strong civil society that developed in this country when it was simply a part of the British Empire (O Connell, 1999). When British settlers first came to North America, it was a largely untamed wilderness, and to some degree the first settlers were entirely on their own, since many of them were religious dissidents, seeking a place to practice the faith they deemed to be correct. The colonies that were set up by the British largely came once they were made aware of the natural bounty that existed in North America. The first settlers isolation and the subsequent isolation that even the official British colonies experienced forced people to organize and to create associations; institutions such as churches, granges, unions, public services such as fire companies, sheriff s offices, and militias (O Connell, 1999). These institutions began to represent the American experience, as our means of socialization and support. Therefore, as I see it, civil society came first and in truth created the framework upon which our founding fathers laid our representative democracy. The groups and institutions that were created during the settling of North America gave America the confidence to legally declare its separation from Great Britain. As I see it, the successful
  • 7. I Attended The Temple College Vocal Point Concert I attended the Temple College Vocal Point concert on November 1, 2016 at 12:30 pm in the Jackson Graeter Backstage Theatre. The Theatre, located in the Mary Alice Marshal Performing Arts Center, at Temple College is small, seating approximately 100 people. Since the setting is quaint, it makes for a personal experience, allowing the audience to truly see and hear the entertainers character. The stage size also has a downside, at times the actors would trip over each other while dancing. The Vocal Point concert titled From Rent to Now: The last 20 Years of Broadway: is directed by Dr. Sara Baker. This Contemporary Broadway show consists of sixteen characters. It is a spoof on musicals. The opening scene played by Trey Shonkwiler and Konnor Widmann was funny, and catchy. They sang A Musical from Something Rotten! Shonkwiler is a Tenor, while Widmann is a Baritone. Together they made beautiful harmonies, they complimented each other vocally, and as actors very well. The next song Mama Who Bore Me from Spring Awakening was sung by all the women, with a soloist. Kristen Garth has a lovely altovoice, her performance was unconfident, and a bit nervous, she had a few notes that were flat, overall it was nice. There were a few moments where the background singers were too loud, overpowering the soloist. When He Sees Me, from Waitress, sung by Kris Glorsorio was wonderful. She has a beautiful Alto/ Mezzo voice. She connected wholly with her character, I thought the balance of head
  • 8. Tuskegee Ethical Dilemmas 4. The Tuskegee Study was a classic example of ethics abuse in research. What were three wrongs committed in that study? The first ethical violation surrounds confidentiality. According to research, confidentiality is not an issue when observing large groups, where individual responses or actions are not considered or when participants identifiable information is not involved. Even in cases where there are large groups being assessed it is up to the researcher to use good judgment in making decisions regarding what information should be shared (Explorable, 2018). In the Tuskegee Syphilis Experiment, individual responses/ reactions were taken into consideration and each participant s identifiable information was used. Thus, the participants ... • 9. The Characteristics Of Ed Gein And The Leatherface In 1974, director Tobe Hooper revolutionized horror with his film inspired by a true story, THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE. Almost immediately after the film s release, rumors began to circulate that there was an actual chainsaw wielding madman living with his deranged family in the town of Poth, Texas. The inspired events were also said to have taken place on August 18th, 1973. However, a quick check of that date reveals that the film had just wrapped four days prior, making it fairly difficult to base a film on an actual event that had yet to occur. Despite this, there was an actual skin wearing maniac that was the film s inspiration. He may not have had a chainsaw, but serial killer Ed Gein was a key inspiration for the infamous Leatherface. Born in 1906 in Plainfield, Wisconsin, Ed Gein lived most of his life as a reclusive loner. Born to an alcoholic father, George, and a fanatically religious mother, Augusta, Ed Gein suffered heavy psychological and physical abuse at the hands of his parents. Classmates remember Ed as being reclusive with strange habits. One of his most unnerving habits was to randomly laugh out loud as though someone had told a joke that only he could hear. Credit Wikipedia A severe alcoholic who could not hold a job, Ed s father, George, was despised by his wife, creating a heavy amount of tension in the home. Augusta s strict biblical teachings were extremely instrumental in shaping Ed s attitude towards women. Fond of preaching from the Old

If this trial were to happen again in modern time the trail and out come would have been drastically different. The Invisible World by Cotton Mather is an excellent example of how Bridget Bishop was granted a fair trail during the Salem Witch Trials. Cotton Matherwas a very well educated man and respected member of the community. He graduated from Harvard at 16 with his undergraduate degree and at 19 he completed his masters degree from Harvard. (Hudson 2015) Due to his education level he was a very creditable source and his opinions were looked at higher than the average citizen. According to Mather he wants to prove that there never were witches (Mather 1862, 129). His goal was to prove that the evidence being brought up was only spectral evidence, which is evidence that could not be proven (Hudson 2015). Most of the testimonies were all here say and would have been very difficult to prove without a reasonable doubt that they truly happened. Whenever there was a testimony that included another person seeing what Bishop did, the other witnesses testimony was not included. So there was no evidence to collaborate what was said. In testimony V an apple flew out of John Cook s hand and landed many feet away in his mother s lap (Mather 1862, 131) but Cook s mother did not testify to helping to prove that the event did happen. • 12. The Importance Of Music In The Socialization Of Children... Music plays and important role in the socialization of children and adolescents. Music is ubiquitous and easily available, whether through the radio, social media or other media outlets. It provides entertainment, and is often utilized as a distraction to relieve stress or boredom. However, as lyrics become more vulgar and explicit, the effect that certain genres of music, such as rap, hip hop and heavy metal, have on youth, has become of paramount concern. Research has been conducted on whether a child s or teenager s preference in those types of music could be correlated with negative behaviors. Delinquent behaviors of youth who listen to those genres of music are often attributed to the music itself, rather than how the child current mental or emotional state. Parents, unfortunately, are often unaware of their child s musical habits. Therefore, when a child exhibits any type of negative behavior, the parent frequently tries to conjure a reason for this misbehavior; More often than not, when there is not a reasonable cause to the delinquency, many parents blame the particular genre of music that their child listens to. This attributes to the negative connotation that is often associated with heavy metal, rap and hip hop music. All genres of music are a form of expression meant to entertain certain audiences: not to be negatively thought of, because of how certain people react to it. In order to reduce the negative connotation associated with heavy metal, rap and hip hop

  • 14. Mary Shelley s Frankenstein And The Bride Of Frankenstein... It is amazing how words on a page take a life of their own once they are written. An author s story can take readers away on a magic carpet ride, to a magical castle that anything can happen in Britain, even through a wardrobe to a land far away and draft them in the battle of a lifetime. But what is even more fascinating is that unlike humans, the words on the page never changes. From this moment to 200 years from now, the words on this page will always be the same, it is only the reader and the world around them that changes. Take for example Mary Shelley s Frankenstein. In 1818, Shelley had a nightmare that lead her to write her novel as a personification of the Victorian Culture s fascination of science and death. In 1934, director James Whaleadapted the material into The Bride of Frankensteinfilm, and was an allegory for pre WWII unity, then in 1997, someone interpreted the film as a homosexual allegory for the 1990 s. This paper will examine how Mary Shelley adapted her nightmare into an allegory for her Victorian era audience, how James Whale used her original text to turn The Bride of Frankenstein into a message of unity for a pre WWII audience, as well as how Garry Morris uses Whale s film to create a pro same sex marriage message out of the text in 1997. Mary Shelley adapted her nightmare of a mad scientist bringing a dead body back to life, into a text that reflects Victorian Customs is by featuring the importance of education in Victorian society as

Annabel Lee does. Since nothing else matters, he is able to completely ignore death and thus death has no power over him as it does with the narrator of The Raven. The United States was coming off one of the worst recessions in the country s history, and Americans were eager for a change. The incumbent republican president George W. In the past century on average, the United States economy grew annually at roughly 3.1%. This number is generally considered the basemark for economic success, with anything above it denoting an above average economy, and anything below it signifying a below average economy. Every single president since Herbert Hoover during the great depression of the late 1920s and early 1930s has managed to create at least one year of above average economic growth, except for one. The economy under president Obama failed to hit the 3% mark for any of his eight years as president (Gillin). This is a rather unprecedented level of economic stagnation, and one that no modern president besides Obama has managed to fall to. Obama was not a particularly good president when it came to labor participation rates either. During his presidency, the labor force participation rate fell to its lowest in over 35 years ( Unemployment ). Many people argue that Obama was dealing with the aftermath of a recession and thus his economic performance should be judged more favorably. This is a contradictory statement, as it is easier to improve something that is bad than it is to improve something that is already successful. Also, the United States economy historically tends to have a large boom after a

During WW2 the US had viewed Indochina as of limited importance but they began to reassess the situation (Herring, 1986). France responded to Ho s proclamation by enlisting Britain s help in expelling the Vietminh from the south of the country, creating a division between Ho s North Vietnam and French South Vietnam. This was followed by fruitless attempts to negotiate an agreement between the French and Vietminh that lasted over a year. For the Vietminh, unification was vital for the country s survival as food production was mostly in the south, but the French refused to budge. Hostility increased until, in November 1946 France shelled Haiphong killing 6000 civilians, tragically beginning the Vietnam War (ibid.)

Although reusable plastics are more resistant to the factors that cause this limitation, it does not mean plastic products fall prey to off gassing. Factors such as sun exposure, microwave radiation, and the heat from being washed in a dishwasher all help contribute to plastic off gassing. Some BPA free reusable bottles have even been found to contain and release estrogen like synthetics that are even more harmful than the ever feared BPA. Reusable bottles also have a mechanical flaw: structure. Despite their impact resistant guarantee, if they hit a surface hard enough they can, and will crack. The composer himself is very accomplished, influencing an entire genre of music. This song is very rhythmic and has identifiable beats. The song has a message that I hold with high regard, as I share the beliefs of the composer. It is the first track in one of my favourite albums Modal Soul. It also references one of my favourite books Flowers for Algernon. The smooth blend of jazz and hip hop instrumentals as well as the melodic tune of the piano, complemented by the rough voices of Cise Starr and Akin make this song very enjoyable. Having listened to many of his other songs, I highly admire Nujabes for his deep commitment to his craft and his ability to produce beautiful music that combines multiple genres. The reality is that if someone lies or covers stuff up, most of the time they will be found out eventually be it in two days or in 20 years. However, the reality is that some people do lie and cover stuff up in professional and personal situations and are never exposed. Sometimes this is because they re in a situation where dishonesty is prized, other times it s because the people around them turn a blind eye to what they see because they don t want to know the truth. Other times, it s because the person engaging in the dishonesty is so crafty and so quick that the trickery and subterfuge is almost inscrutable. However, the fact remains that Crist is correct. Often people are found out because those who are engaging in the trickery have so much hubris and so much arrogance that they engage in bolder and bolder moves, believing that they will never be caught. One example of that from the recent past is of Bernie Madoff. His crime was a simple Ponzi scheme which grew larger and larger in size and scale to the point where he couldn t help but be found out. In this case, the fact that Ms. Jones was found out was somewhat expected: she advanced to such a position of power within the institution that she was almost one of their public figures, which meant that her credentials would be under greater scrutiny. • 41. The Ancient Greek Society Competition in ancient Greece set their society apart from the rest of the world and became a greater influence on modern society. Competition was pride and a sense of bettering oneself to achieve greater goals. Hesiod is the first to correlate man to material. He describes mankind in five races of earthly material based upon their malleability. Overtime the Greeks develop this theory into a popular mindset, craftsmen and the product. Man becomes what he creates. The desire to learn and grow invests itself in competition by the conception of medicine, sports, art, writing, language, and war. Everything in Greek society was recognized as either a tool or a product. Men developed their bodies in gymnasiums, children expanded their minds in schools, the body was made immune and strong with medicines, and the brain was built on words, conversation inspired by art, territories seized by war. Inspired by the ancient Egyptians and their tradition of statue portraiture the Greeks decide to develop this further. The Kroisos statue was born, next the Kritos boy. From then on sculptors would rise to challenge to create the perfect man, their earthly version of paying God. The Greeks incorporated math for order and continued on their hopes for perfection. Next they added drama and movement in marble structures resembling man and the God s. Greeks built off of other Greeks works. They used past examples as stepping stones for self improvement. The Pentecostal Movement began in Topeka, Kansas at Bethel Bible College, established by Charles Parham who taught that speaking in tongues was a spiritual gift that demonstrated as evidence of baptism with the Holy Spirit, a distinct type of baptism experienced in chapter two of the book of Acts on the day of Pentecost. On January 1st of 1901, Agnes Ozman, a student at Bethel Bible School, was the first person to speak in tongues after being baptized with The Holy Spirit. Gothic literature is a style which is very present in Edgar Allen Poe s The Fall of the House of Usher . In Poe s short story, the narrator is the one to figure out/ imply that these twins are telepathic. Usher locks up his twin sister and claims to here her cries for help louder and sooner than the narrator, suggesting their hidden powers (Poe, 29). By suggesting Usher and his sisters spiritual unity, aspects of Gothic literature are emphasized, providing evidence for the story to fall under the category of Gothic literature. Through analyzing House Taken Over , it can be said that the short story is an example of magical realism. Although not directly stated what, siblings are being haunted by a supernatural force in the time of late WWII, this haunting is dangerous and causes siblings to abandon their once cherished house (Cortazar, 42). The fact that the story takes place in 1946 Argentina right after WWII drives the assumption that these events may have taken place, a common understanding in magical realism. The purpose of addition of the supernatural in both styles is used to entertain the reader and/ or to add some sort of meaning to the text. In gothic text it is meant to allow the reader to delve into their own dark and mysterious thoughts.

From using, a different method to determine the speed at which the oil spill ran I also found that the oil did not migrate linearly from the spill site in terms of distance as a function of time. I concluded that there was a non linearity between day 19 and day 38. This non linearity could be caused by the change in the current movement in the Gulf of Alaska. Part 3 Design and Methodology: For finding how fast, the oil moves down the Gulf of Alaska I first found a quick and imprecise rate of 8.39 miles/day by dividing 470 miles by 56 days. I knew this was not an exact number, but it gave me somewhere to start. I then turn to excel to find a more precise rate. I used the days as my y axis and the miles the oil migrated as my x axis. From creating a graph, I was able to find from the regression equation that the oil moves at a rate of 7.69 miles/day. The non linearity that I found in the data shows that the gap happens between day 19 and day 28. In this gap, I found that the oil spill slowed down to about 1.58 miles/day. I calculated the regression of the first gap from day 4 to day 19 and found that the oil spill moved at a rate of 13.09 miles/day. Then I did the same for the upper half of the break and found that the oil spill runs 10.55 miles/day from day 38 to day 56. Seeing these calculations proved to me the non linearity of the migration of the oil. Part 4 Results and Findings: From my calculations, I found that the oil moved
