The Labeling Of Genetically Engineered Crops
Introduction: In an immense variation of ways, farmers grow their crops and keep
them healthy and ready for distribution. The need for a greater variety of healthy and
resistant crop is consistently rising as populations continue to increase around the
world. Yet, agricultural food scientists have manipulated the DNAstructure of
countless foods. One main concern for consumers is the use of GMOs, genetically
engineered crops. However, GMOs are very hard to find when manufacturers claim to
not have them in their products and also not completely healthy. To provide
information to customers, labeling requirements have been set up in many countries
to aid international trade. In this experiment we will test different foods to find traces
of GMO including one that claims to not contain GMOs. We hypothesize that the
lettuce sample would not contain any GMO genes.
Material and Methods:
DNA extraction of samples for PCR.
Three samples were prepared: Soy bean with GMO, Soy bean without GMO,
Lettuce, and ChexВ® cereal. The food samples were crushed into a powder and
separated. Next, 100 Вµl of Edwards buffer was added to samples. For another
minute, the food was then grounded. Then, 900 Вµl of Edwards s buffer was then
added to each sample and vortex. The samples were then boiled for 5 minutes and
centrifuged for 2 minutes. Next 350 Вµ of each supernatant was transferred to fresh
tubes. 400 Вµl of isopropanol was then added to the supernatant samples. The

The author
These verses introduce the author Jeremiah. He belonged to a priestly family, the
son of Hilkiah, one of the priests at Anathoth. Jeremiah was also a prophet.
Longman (2009:21) explains that prophets were people who have had an encounter
with God and been commissioned by him for their task . It was important for the
prophet to describe his identity and calling before presenting his oracles so that
people would believe him. This is why Jeremiah starts the book introducing himself,
and his calling from God that gave him authority as a prophet.
The historical context
The verses 2 and 3 give us a short overview of the time in which this book was
written. Jeremiah began prophesying in Judah in 626 BC, halfway through the

When people ask me the question, Jas, why do you want to be a nurse? The first

My journey with Harry starts before I could even read. When Harry Potter and the
Philosopher s Stone was published, I wasn t even one, but my mum s work
colleagues were reading it to their kids, so my mum read it to me.
I don t remember much of the earlier years of Harry Potter, my memories are really
faint, but one of my earliest memories was going to see Harry Potter and the
Philosopher s Stone at the drive in.
My parents, younger sister and I were on holiday and we decided to go see it. I
remember sitting in the front seat of the car, eating my popcorn and listening to it
through the car radio.
There are two scenes that I am can remember so clearly. The first is when Harry
first arrives at Hogwarts, the scene where we first see the castle. Even though I was
only 6, I felt like I was home. It was magic and beautiful.

what keep us apart. Differences are why conflicts are created. When two opposing
ideas meet, disagreement occurs and therefore, conflicts happen. This is present in
our everyday lives; it can be found in homes, in workplaces, outside of those, and in
our society. Differences are crucial in the decision of one event. Once differences
take control, conflicts arise, and these decisions we make will be the factor of what

My greatest failure was how I reacted to getting a C in my middle school science

can affect the identities of the students in that environment. Contributors offered their

Body Integrity Identity Disorder (BIID, also known as apotemnophilia and
xenomelia) is a rare condition in which the person experiences a strong feeling of
overcompleteness with four limbs, causing an intense desire for amputation (1,2).
Instead of a wish for amputation there may also be a desire to paralysis (3). These
individuals do not suffer from delusions or psychosis, and fully understand the
bizarre nature of their desire (2,4). At this time BIID is not included in the ICD 11 or
DSM 5, causing this condition to be unknown by psychiatrists, neurologist and
surgeons. Therefore there is no effective pharmacological or psychotherapeutic
treatment option available (2). Only the requested amputation itself seems effective,
but for ethical reasons those amputations are not preformed in regular healthcare
(3). As a result BIID individuals often avoid healthcare and express their desire by
pretending to be disabled or, in extreme cases, by eventually performing self
amputation (4 7). The lifelong desire of an individual to be physically disabled may
be considered incomprehensible by many. However, for BIID individuals the strong
sense that their anatomical self as an able bodied person is inappropriate and that
they were meant to go through life as a disabled person is constantly present and
