Symbolism in Greasy Lake
Greasy Lake
Greasy Lake by Tom Coraghessan Boyle, is the story of a group of adolescents, searching for the
one situation that will proclaim them as bad boys and how their minds change. As the story begins,
the narrator gives the impression that he feels he and the others boys should have taken notice of
some obvious clues about themselves. These clues would have led them to the conclusion that they
were far from the bad guys they wished to be. However, the oblivious teenagers ignore these
obvious signs and continue in search of their goal.
In this story, Boyle uses many symbols to create the theme. The individual vehicles are each
symbols in the portion of the story that they appear. For example, early in the story, the narrator...

By taking the words to their dictionary definition, they mean, slimy and a place to cleanse. It is a
place of maturing and growth. Greasy Lake is an excellent story about the transformation of the
mind and spirit through encounters of the body. Greasy Lake also encompasses the old saying, be
careful what you wish for, you just might get it.

Genre Of Music Essay
Our data showed some interesting trends for each genre of music. While many of our tests fell in
line with what we predicted with our hypothesis, we did have some outliers that we did not account
for.
As stated previously, we started by testing the resting heart rate of our subjects as our constant.
The overall average of our subjects heart rates was 69.92 BPM which falls in line with the
standard average. However, some subjects had a harder time relaxing completely while being
tested and therefore had a higher resting heart rate. Once the resting heart rate was established, we
were then able to compare the heart rates while the subjects were listening to music and see if we
could find a significant difference that supported our ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another explanation for these increases could be that several subjects started dancing in their seats
when they heard the song. The physical movement could have been a cause for the raise in the
heart rates. These increases also fit what we originally predicted in our original hypothesis.
The final genre that we tested was classical music and we used Adagio for Strings by Samuel
Barber. The average heart rate for this song was 70.12 BPM which is just a 0.20 difference from
the resting average. The tempo for this song was significantly less than all of the other genres at
just 77 BPM. Classical music has multiple studies done suggesting that it can improve newborn
babies IQ, helps while studying and helps you fall asleep. While this is not what we tested for,
the fact that classical music lowered or kept almost every subjects heart rate the same, backs up
some of these previous studies that have been performed. In our data, there was one person who
was completely different from the rest of the data. As stated previously, all of our subjects
tested, except for one, were 18 22 male and female college students. The one subject who did not
fit the mold of our other subjects was a male, college professor. This subject s response to all of
the music genres did not come close to any other person s response. With every single genre of
music that was played for this subject, their heart rate lowered significantly. There are a

Summary Of Three Girls By Oates
It was like a child s game in which you stare at foliage, grass, clouds in the sky, and suddenly you
see a face or a figure, and after that recognition you can t not see the hidden shape, its staring you
in the face. (Oates, 95)
Oates Three Girls tells the story of two girl poets in the Strand Bookstore in Manhattan on a snowy
day in March of 1956. They wander through the aisles of poetry, with commentary about various
poets and collections of poetries and how they reflected on the girl poets . We were girl poets
passionately enamored of T.S. Eliot but scornful of Robert Frost, whom we d been made to
memorize in high school Slyly we communicated in code phrases from Eliot in the presence of
obtuse others in our dining hall and residence. (Oates, 92) Suddenly she is pulled from her
thoughts, as her friend touches her wrist and guides her further into the store to stumble upon
Marilyn Monroe. From here, the girl poets follow her discretely, with a commentary of how
Monroe s discretion was so much different form how she was normally seen. She was, at that
moment, not a garnish blond showgirl , but rather this woman was an individual wholly absorbed
in selecting, leafing through, pausing to read books (Oates, 93) They continue to follow her until
she reaches the storefront, where they volunteer to pay for her books to keep the secret of her
being here. From there they return her books to her outside, with her gifting them the Selected
Poems of Marianne Moore before departing. The story closes with the two girl poets sharing their
first kiss.
The chosen quote, ( It was like a child s game in which you stare at foliage, grass, clouds in the sky,
and suddenly you see a face or a figure, and after that recognition you can t not see the hidden
shape, its staring you in the face. (Oates, 95)) plays not only to the main plot of the story (the girl
poets discovering Marilyn Monroe in the Strand Bookstore), but also to the subplot (the girl poets
sharing their first kiss and becoming lovers) as well. It applies to the main plot very clearly
through two sides: that though by this point in the story only the girl poets have discovered it is
Monroe, the realization that others could at moment s

Leading Community Businesses And Governments Admit...
Introduction Leading community businesses and governments admit Corporate Social
Responsibility (CSR) as an official policy objective. Those companies who apply CSR are able
to maintain sustainable progress. This development covers social, economic and environmental
influence in how they run (Clegg, 2011, p. 216). Three areas are the bases of the triple bottom
line (TBL) approach (Elkington, 1994). CSR itself has various meaning but in more simple way
it can be defined as firms obligation to act ethically and to facilitate elaboration. Thereby they try
to make employees life better and likewise help to demonstrate a positive impact on local
society. Therefore businesses are responsible for two factors of how they operate. Firstly, they
should be concerned about the quality of management including people and operations. Secondly,
they have to consider the character and amount of their effect on community in different fields.
External stakeholders take a huge concern on how an organisation acts whether they perform
well in their products, services, and society or not. Moreover they take an interest in how they
care towards the workforce (Baker, 2004). The following paper demonstrates the major reasons
of why businesses should take CSR seriously and what advantages does CSR have when they use
it. First aspect will be related to reputation and brand image. Then it will be followed by strategy of
cost reduction. Third aspect will explain the approaches to gain a competitive

Dark Fantasy Essay
Dark Fantasy is a hip hop song with classic verses and a captivating, expressive chorus similar to
Nas flow. But a more profound analysis illustrates that the song is a metaphor describing that Kanye
West is feeling like he is on top of the world, as a valued idol at the peak of his music career.
However, the larger themes within the song that flows throughout the album implies the
experiencing of dark fantasies, pursuing the American dream, evolving into the monster one would
never thought he would evolve into, the flashing lights that blind rather than brighten, falling in
love and then undervaluing the relationship, sensual exploits as a heartbreaking alternative for loss
of love, being lost in the labyrinth of the American lifestyle;... Show more content on

Followed by the intro is an abrupt disbelief, since most of Kanye s listeners do not anticipate
hearing this surprise on a hip hop compilation. The surprise is the vocal harmonies. After the
accords of Can we get much higher , the rhythm aggressively bangs into motion and Dark
Fantasy opens. I fantasized about this back in Chicago/ Mercy, mercy, that Murcielago, West
raps, apparently astonished that he accomplished all he ever desired. For the rest of Dark
Fantasy, Kanye is liberally combining the luxuries ( Mercy, mercy me, that Murcielago ) and the
existential ( Hey teacher, teacher/Tell me how do you respond to the students?/And refresh the
page and restart the memory?/And re spark the soul and rebuild the energy? ). Kanye West
identifies himself as a leader, but contemplates on how to develop the world into a better one,
specifically for the Black Community. Much of Kanye s expressive music has embodied the
destruction of boundaries that enforce racial

The Communication Plan For Breast Cancer
The organizations purpose of the communication plan is to get recognized in the community. We
want people to know about the organization and all the different resources we will have
available. It is important that society understands what our goal is and what we are mainly
focused on, breast cancer. Our communication plan will not only help us reach out to people but
will also help us announce our events and recruit volunteers to help us with our program. In order
to be successful we need the support of the community, this will help us grow and continue to
achieve our goals. Once we get the support of the community and continue to grow as a clinic our
communications plan will also help us announce the victories and goals we achieve. Our
communication plan will be based on reaching out to more younger men and women having risk of
breast cancer. It will help us give them a better knowledge of the risks they may encounter and
educating them with the prevention of the disease. We want to attract as many young men and
women to our program as possible. Our clinic will be located in FlagstaffArizona and our
communication plan will help us get university students get more involved with the clinic. Not only
will they help us with volunteer work but will also get us more involved with the community by
helping us get recognized with more people by word of mouth. We want our community plan to

Compare And Differences Of Fidel Castro And Augusto Pinochet
Compare and contrast the manners in which two authoritarian leaders [Fidel Castro and Augusto
Pinochet] established and maintained their rule during their respective reigns.
Throughout the course of history, several authoritarian leaders have risen to power and maintained
their acquired power through physical, violent means. Two authoritarian leaders that have
transformed their acquired power into dictatorial rights are Fidel Castro of Cuba and Augusto
Pinochet of Chile. Interestingly, Castro and Pinochet differed in their ideals about the ideal
structure of governments. While Castro advocated for a socialist, Marxist, anti imperialist Cuba,
Pinochet favored a anti Marxist, anti socialist, capitalist Chile. Despite their differing ideals, both
shared several similarities in their efforts to establish and maintain their power. Both individuals
rose to power in a similar manner: a sort of coup d Г©tat. Both individuals maintained power
through positive and negative means. Castro and Pinochet introduced several economic reforms
that mostly benefited the people of Cuba and Chile. While these economic reforms allowed for the
financial freedom of many Cubans and Chileans, the dictatorial rulers politically repressed the
residents of Cuba and Chile. While many historians believe that Castro and Pinochet greatly
differed due to their opposing beliefs, both dictators share multiple similarities in the ways that they
rose to power, negatively maintained power, and positively

Characteristics Of Modernism
PD4102 History of Design Report
Sam Van Dam
15172058
26th April 2016
Each period style, for instance, Art Nouveau, Art Deco, Modernism, Post modernism has certain
defining characteristics. Describe a period of your choice and define its traits.
Modernism is a period style which has many defining characterisitcs which will be talked about
throughout the course of this essay. The birth of Modernismran between the 18th and 19th century
around the time of the industrial revolution. The industrial revolution caused very quick changes in
technology, manufacturing and transportation as well as other aspects.
These all had a massive affect on the social, economic and cultural conditions of life in Western
Europe, North America and eventually the rest of the world. (MoMa 2011) [Fig 1] The first

Other arts such as literature and music had massively changed, shaping the music we listen to and
the books we read to this day. The modernist period saw many composers start to experiment with
their music which was a change from the romantic period. The romantic period was very traditional
but in the early 20th century, composers had started to use new melodies and harmonies that were
considered unusual at the time.
One of the most famous musicians to thrive in the modernist period was the American composer
Aaron Copland. Some of his most famous work would be his compositions for the films Of Mice
and Men and Our Town . He very much went with the fast changing times that were happening
around him.
In his growth as a composer Copland mirrored the important trends of his time. After his return
from Paris, he worked with jazz rhythms in Music for the Theater (1925) and the Piano Concerto
(1926). (Britannica 2016)
This is what led Copland to work on project such as film scores as during the early to mid 20th
century, as the art of film had become very

Supply And Demand Of Supply
Supply and demand is perhaps one of the most fundamental concepts of economics and it is the
backbone of a market economy. Demand refers to how much (quantity) of a product or service
is desired by buyers. The quantity demanded is the amount of a product people are willing to
buy at a certain price; the relationship between price and quantity demanded is known as the
demand relationship. Supply represents how much the market can offer. The quantity supplied
refers to the amount of a certain good producers are willing to supply when receiving a certain
price. The correlation between price and how much of a good or service is supplied to the market
is known as the supply relationship. Price, therefore, is a reflection of supply and demand.... Show

B. The Law of Supply
Like the law of demand, the law of supply demonstrates the quantities that will be sold at a certain
price. But unlike the law of demand, the supply relationship shows an upward slope. This means
that the higher the price, the higher the quantity supplied. Producers supply more at a higher price
because selling a higher quantity at a higher price increases revenue.
economics4.gif
A, B and C are points on the supply curve. Each point on the curve reflects a direct correlation
between quantity supplied (Q) and price (P). At point B, the quantity supplied will be Q2 and the
price will be P2, and so on. (To learn how economic factors are used in currency trading, read Forex
Walkthrough: Economics.)
Time and Supply
Unlike the demand relationship, however, the supply relationship is a factor of time. Time is
important to supply because suppliers must, but cannot always, react quickly to a change in
demand or price. So it is important to try and determine whether a price change that is caused by
demand will be temporary or permanent.
Let s say there s a sudden increase in the demand and price for umbrellas in an unexpected rainy
season; suppliers may simply accommodate demand by using their production equipment more
intensively. If, however, there is a climate change, and the population will need umbrellas year
round, the change in demand and price will be expected to be long term; suppliers will have to
change their equipment and production

Funeral Procession
In the article Death in Motion: Funeral Processions in the Forum Romanum authors Diane Favro
and Christopher Johanson fully and creatively discuss funeral processions in Rome with the earliest
funeral parade being from the middle republican period and the latter two being during the imperial
period. The interesting aspect the authors manage to incorporate into their writing is not only the
fact that they took multiple interpretation into account for certain funeral processions, but also that
they showed multiple diagrams of the funerary routes, and 3d imaging of certain spaces that shed
light on the different views spectators might have had, and whether these views would be rational
for what the procession was trying to convey. These 3d diagrams... Show more content on

The funerary processions of the Middle republic discussed here are from 183 BCE to 145 BCE
the importance of these dates to me is that the Third Macedonian wars are occurring at this time
from 171 to 168 BCE, and as we know Octavius is victorious in a naval battle and builds the
Porticus Octavia as triumphal symbol of his title of imperator essentially marking the beginning of
the end of the republic. The first precedent discussed were the funerals of the Cornelii, and an
important distinction of the Cornelii compared to previous funerary processions was that they
made a stop at the Capitoline Hill to get an the wax mask of Scipio Africanus. This extra stop is
important because it not only lengthened the procession allowing for a larger crowd to gather, it
also it emphasized a sequence notable buildings, art, and urban features that by the participants
sequence of views for those gathering at the Forum. This is important in understanding the
Hellenization of Rome because during the Imperial period funerary processions emulate certain
features of their predecessors superficially while trying to legitimize imperial power. During the
Imperial period objects from the Republic remained visible, every building, painting, etc. was now
imprinted

Holocaust Migration Research Paper
Migration: Communist Cleanse
World War II: Yet another instance of mass relocation and genocide of an ethnic group. But what
about after the Holocaust? In December 1944, Prime Minister Winston Churchill stood on the
world s stage and announced the largest forced population transfer in human history the ethnic
cleansing of post war Germany (Douglas). Up until the 1970 s or so, resources written in English
on this particular involuntary migration were nonexistent; even in Europe, the subject is considered
taboo.
British, American, and Russian governments officialized the controversial decision to expel

Conference in 1945. The allied nations of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most began championing right wing politics, which value tradition... survival of the fittest, and...
economic freedom (Nicklin). Others began working peacefully towards the reconstruction of post
war Germany and recognizing those displaced all around Europe (specifically Poland). At about
the same time the Cold War was getting cold, an increasing number of German expellees began to
speak up about their forgotten holocaust. Many created organizations that demanded compensation
for their suffering, especially in West Germany. Still, the Allies kept the discussions to a mum;
some (such as Czechoslovakia) continued to justify the cleansing as a fit punishment for Nazi
crimes and refused to acknowledge the atrocity as anything more. After the fall of the U.S.S.R.
and the reconciliation of East and West Germany, the subject became a slightly more open topic.
After the Nuremberg Trials in 1945 concluded that forced immigration was a crime against
humanity, the issue could no longer be ignored... or so it seemed. Today ethnic cleansing is
considered a crime against international law, although some consider the forced expulsion of
Germans after WWII to have been a legal procedure at the time (seeing as such crimes were not
addressed by the UN Declaration of Human Rights nor the European Convention on Human Rights
in 1950). The expulsion continues to make appearances in modern politics, especially in Europe;
for instance, a declaration in 1997 by the Czech Republic has effectively closed the topic and
attempted to restrict legal claims made by German descendants ( Germans Expelled ). Still, these
immigrants, along with their children, continue to try and demand the property confiscated from
them during the

Relationship between Mechanical Reproduction, Art and Culture
Marxist criticism concerns itself with class differences and the modes of production that produce
oppression. Class conflict will be reflected in different forms of art because the marxist school
believes that everything in a society is based on the current modes of production. A change to the
mode of production will bring change to politics, law, philosophy, religion, and art. Max
Horkheimer, Theodor W. Adorno and Walter Benjamin are three of the most notable critics of
Marxism. They write about the production of cultural subject in capitalist societies, agreeing that
reproduction of art has drastically changed due to mechanization. Horkheimer and Adorno s The

Art will be made for the purpose of reproduction to reach the highest audience. The aura of an
object will no longer matter because it will not be part of the class consciousness. As Benjamin
brings up the debate of the cult value versus the exhibition value, the value of art will change so
that it s only function will be based on how many times it can be reproduced. Horkheimer and
Adorno describe the culture industry as, millions participate in it, certain reproduction processes
are necessary that inevitably require identical needs in innumerable places to be satisfied with
identical goods (1256). Benjamin argues that as soon as the authenticity is lost, art s function is
transformed. Horkheimer and Adorno describe a new function of art, to produce for mass
consumption. Those in control of the modes of production want to replace the ritual value with a
exhibition value to increase profit. Thus creating a bigger divide between the working class and
the upper class. Art is being given a new value under capitalism. Benjamin suggests that what is
being created within the society is correlated to that value that society puts on art. The quality of
art being produced will shift from the cult value and the exhibition value. As Horkheimer and
Adorno describe as art being created for almost instantaneous disposal, the culture doesn t allow art
to be held on to but rather be discarded for the new. Mechanical

The Importance Of Inclusive Leadership
Inclusive Leadership
The focus of this discussion is to show how the role of the inclusive leader can strengthens the
influential power of a diverse organizational team. Inclusive leadership is a new way of leading
teams. Inclusive leaders treat individuals and groups fairly, respects their unique characteristics, and
understands the diversity of the groups.
Traits of Inclusive Leadership
The organization has hired a consultant to work with a United Sates diverse team in the

Improving An Employee s Stress Level Is Through Supervision
Alternatively, one of the most common methods used to manage an employee s stress level is
through supervision. As previously stated, social workers who work within the child welfare
system can use daily debriefing based on the critical incidents that occur with this population.
For example, from personal experience of being a supervisor over case managers working with
children, supervision was crucial not only for myself but for the caseworkers. The caseworkers
were able to release their emotions, concerns, and possible fears when dealing with their clients
and their family. Huss (2012) shows how employees use supervision to cope and discuss stressful
situations, however, it is explained how supervision is beginning to suddenly decrease. Huss
(2012) describes how supervision is beginning to decrease, which can be due to the possible lack
of supervisory positions or funding. This is an example of why the current practices, i.e. EPA,
supervision, and OD, need to change within organizations. Based on personal experience, in order
to help manage an employees stress, an organization needs to ensure that their staff has the tools
needed to work efficiently and effectively. Organizations must be aware of the stress that can be
caused by the policies, regulations and conflicting demands of the external and internal factors that
influence an employee s work (Dextras Gautier, Marchand, Haines, 2012). Furthermore,
organizational SMIs encompass the leadership of administration,

with the musical influences of The Beatles and The Rolling Stones He explains how this
intertwinement of both these contexts lead to the creation of the song. For this specific example,

how, according to Lucy Green s theories, Bowie s actions regularly threatened his masculinity

Battle Of Algiers Essay
The movie Battle of Algiers tells the story of a revolution. The movie takes place in the capital
of French Algeria, Algiers. The French colonized Algeria 1830, this colonization lasted until
1962; the year Algeria gained its independence. The movie tells the story of the people of Algiers
and their struggle to gain independence. The movie raises a plethora of moral issues and the
characters are often put into situations that put their morals into question. The French and the
people of Algiers were both into these situations. However, I believe the French were more
immoral than the Algiers; in fact, I believe the people of Algiers actions were justifiable.

Cycle Of Life And Imagery In The Grave By Katherine Anne...
The Grave by Katherine Anne Porter is a story that illustrates the initiation of a child from
innocence to experience. The underlying theme behind the central idea of innocence to experience
is the cycle of life and death and rebirth. This theme is illustrated in the young protagonist, Miranda,
and her epiphany on the concept of the cycle of life and rebirth. The dominant tone in The Grave is
melancholic, and that tone is created through the language elements of symbolism, diction, and
imagery. The story s tone is also supported by the fictionelement character. Porter begins the story
with Miranda and her brother Paul exploring a graveyard while out hunting. As they continue with
their hunt, Paul shoots a rabbitthat is about to give birth. Paul proceeds to carefully slit the dead
rabbit open revealing her young unborn babies. This moment is an epiphany for young Miranda as
she understands the meaning of rebirth and the cycle of life and death. Miranda later reflects upon

Critical Success Factors Of A Firm s Performance
Critical success factors are measures of those aspects of a firm s performance that are essential to
its competitive advantage and, therefore, to its success (Blocher, Stout, Juras, Cokins, 2013). One
of the original uses of Critical Success Factors as a concept is by McKinsey and Company in
Boston during the 1950s to determine how a corporation should compete in each of its many
businessunits (Isakson Sircar, 1990). As can be seen by the above quote, for a company in the real
estatebusiness all of these critical success factors are either dependent upon or relate to the
service provided by the firm. If a company is not providing the level or type of service which
consumers are demanding, then none of the critical success factors mentioned above will show a
positive position or future for the company. A generational change in the needs and wants of
consumers in the real estate business has caused the growth of what the traditional service
providers are calling hybrids, such as Redfin, Help A Sell, and Xome, which provide services to
consumers that focus heavily on technological innovation and cutting cost for their customers
(Inman, 2015).
Sales, profitability, and liquidity are the three financial critical success factors. These three do not
require much discussion as they are factors discussed by all when evaluating the current state of any
company in any industry. Without sales and profits a company cannot succeed and with a trend
showing these two things

It s Not Difficult To Hack The System Case Study

It s Not Difficult to Hack the System
It s not difficult to hack the system is what you hear from multiple professionals that work in the
energy security profession. A study found by University of Maryland department of engineering
there is a hacker attack every thirty nine seconds, affecting one in three Americans each year.[1]
This data was published in 2007 and has increased in the past decade. When Americans think of a
cyber attack, one would think of it being financial attack such as stolen credit card information.
What if cyber criminals took control of the power grid? The threat is real however and within 2011
to 2014 there were 362 known targeted cyber attacks against the ... Show more content on

This cost the economy from 6.5 10.8 billion of dollars with over a hundred fatalities in the
hospitals due to lack of power.[5]
With technology corporations knowing the risks involved with cyber attacks, research and
innovation have taken steps to prevent this apocalyptic scenario from happening again. The
Department of Energy has created localized grids that are normally connected to our traditional
grid, but has the option to be disconnected to support reliability and resiliency.[6] Microgrids use
advanced smart grid technologies and integrate distributed energy resources.[4] At time, they can
be used when there is a severe outage to offer local regions with reliable power even when a
physical or cyber threat occurs.[4]
Since we already have the technology to build a grid that is more resilient and less of a target for
adversaries, all Americans need to push for this to remain a priority and find ways to support
legislation for a rebuilding of the infrastructure system. With companies such as Intel who are in the
energy and security sectors but also researching artificial intelligence and self automated vehicles
and robots, there is a possibility that a rebuilding of the infrastructure system is plausible. With
individuals boarding millions of dollars into creating smart cities who knows what opportunities can
occur. As of this writing, just

Feminine Soul In The Host
In the opening of the novel, The Host (Meyer, 2010), the protagonist, a feminine soul, who comes
to be named Wanderer, has been placed in the body of Melanie, a twenty year old female rebel who
was caught as she tried to reunite with her still human cousin, Sharon. Melanie, rather than be
caught by the parasites threw herself down an elevator shaft to escape the Seeker souls, encased in
humanbodies, who were chasing her (Meyer, 2010, p. 12). Melanie is one of an unknown number
of remaining humanswho have so far eluded being inserted with an alien soul during the past few
years of alien occupation on Earth (p. 18). The souls silver bodies are small enough to fit in the

As a result, the social environment on Earth has become much less violent. As Wanda (short for
Wanderer) says, No one could compare what had been and what was now and not admit that
Earth was better thanks to us (Meyer, 2010, p. 60). In fact, soul infected humans began being so
kind to one another that the remaining humans knew that something was changing. Keeping with
the dystopian genre framework there has been a cataclysmic change on Earth through this alien
invasion. Those humans who have not had an alien inserted into their brain now have to hide
their existence from the souls Seekers who are less bothered by the use of violence than the
other peace loving souls. Wanda and other souls see this as a sign that a Seeker is a lesser
individual and that only the least civilized souls, the least evolved, the lesser among us, would be
drawn to the path of Seeker (p. 22). However, on Earth, unlike on other planets where occupation
was relatively easy, humans have proven to be resistant to becoming hosts and the occupation has
gone awry and has turned into a fierce and bloody battle (p. 22). Therefore, the Seekers have had a
greater influence on the occupation as they hunt down and capture humans such as

Analysis Of Herman Melville s Typee
In much of what we identify with in our everyday lives has to do with the relationships we have
with one another. These relationships are ultimately embedded into our memory for basically the
rest of our lives, and with some shape or form, shape us to who we are today. These relations,
similarly have to do with faces, actions and personal experiences that we have never been exposed
to before. This type of exposure is apparent in Herman Melvilles Typee, where identity is of critical
importance to that of Tommo, the narrator, along with the tribe that he encounters while stranded
on the island. There are numerous instance as to where Tommo questions his moral and somewhat
physical identity in Typee. These events such as Tommos decision to tattoo
himself is a major
identity crisis because it s not something he, nor his Western cultureis really exposed to or familiar
with. The Typee practices and societal structures displayed by Melville in Typee allows the reader
in some case, to compare and contrast how Western civilization and the other [Typee] reaffirm
identity. In a sense Tommo and his decision, by the end of the novel, really allows the reader to
understand what creates and helps maintain identity for ones self. Melville, in the beginning,
introduces Tommo as an individual that prefers to be unidentified or wants to be invisible to others,
but wants to be someone whom takes pleasure in the observation of others. Tommo, in Marquesan,

The Causes And Effects Of The Subprime Crisis
Subprime crisis has grabbed public s attention when a significant rise in home foreclosures in
2006 seemingly out of control in 2007 and eventually the collapse of lending industries and
hedge funds has occurred. Subprime crisis is defined as a situation whereby borrowers being
approved for loans they could not afford for repayment which affecting the mortgage industry.
Fair value accounting has been in the center of criticism in this financial earthquake. It is
blamed as main cause of Subprime crisis and led to a financial meltdown. Instead of blaming fair
value accounting, in my opinion there are some possible causes of the crisis can be identified and
to be debated upon. First and foremost, most of the blame can be pointed at the lenders who lent
money to the poor credit and high default risk borrowers. Due to the easy availability of the
subprime credit, there was an... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At this point, subprime lending allows the borrowers to be able to make purchases for houses
through housing loan on easy terms and conditions, which in turn enhanced the home ownership in
the bubble year. This is in line with the conclusion of Whalen (2008). According to Whalen (2008),
the odious partnership of home building, banks, real estate companies, and GSEs which was formed
to support affordable housing was the main cause of the subprime credit crisis.
The housing bubble was also considered as one of the causes of the subprime crisis. A housing
bubble is caused by tremendous increases in the real property valuation until reaching unsustainable
levels relative to incomes and other affordability indexes. The perception of generations of
consumers believed that not only would the values of home not decline, but that the home values
will continue to rise in the future.

An Analysis of Hemingway’s A Moveable Feast
When a writer picks up their pen and paper, begins one of the most personal and cathartic
experiences in their lives, and forms this creation, this seemingly incoherent sets of words and
phrases that, read without any critical thinking, any form of analysis or reflexion, can be easily
misconstrued as worthless or empty. When one reads an author s work, in any shape or form, what
floats off of the ink of the paper and implants itself in our minds is the author s personality, their
style. Reading any of the greats, many would be able to spot the minute details that separates each
author from another; whether it be their use of dialogue, their complex descriptions, their syntax, or
their tone. When reading an excerpt of Hemingway s A... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I said that I did not believe that anyone could write any way except the very best he could write
without compromising his talent. This meta cognitive piece of writing is an exact reflection of
Hemingway s own work. His clinical tone is maintained straight up to the end of the chapter,
where he writes, I did not know Zelda yet, and so I did not know the terrible odds that were
against him. But we were to find them out soon enough. The gloom that carried us through the
chapter concludes with an end that foreshadows more pain and sorrow in the lives of both
writers. While Hemingway s sullen tone carries the underlying theme of his work, it is
Hemingway s use of details, what he decides to divulge into rich descriptions of and what he
chooses to leave a mystery, that opens up a text that comes across as simple to deeper analysis.
Hemingway strays away from overly complicated descriptions of events, keeping his thoughts
focused on specific descriptions of character, and of personal thoughts and opinions. Hemingway s
detailed explanations in regards to his arguments with Scott, such as their one on whether
pneumonia is the correct term for a disease or not, and his detailed recalling of his and Scott s
adventures with a thermometer can easily come across as banal and self indulgent. His detailed
recollections of his first encounter with Scott, where he critiques his facial features, his

According to government surveys, 25 million Americans have smoked marijuana in the past
year, and more than 14 million do so on a regular basis, despite harsh laws against its use.
Marijuana is far less hazardous than tobacco or alcohol. Nearly 50,000 people die each year
from alcohol poisoning. Additionally, more than 400,000 deaths each year are attributed to
smoking tobacco. By comparison, marijuana is non hazardous and cannot cause death by
overdose. The United States public policies should reflect this reality, not deny it. (NORML)
The legalization of marijuana is a liberty that people deserve to choose for themselves.
Legalization would also reduce crime, and give sick patients a new effective medicine. The most
important reason for marijuana to be legalized is because people deserve to be free, and have the
choice to smoke marijuana. As the members of what we call a free nation should have the right to
make decisions for ourselves. Marijuana is less hazardous than other drugs that are already legal,
like alcohol and tobacco. Marijuana also takes part of some religions. Just as Christians drink wine
on certain occasions, religions such as some Buddhists, Hindus, and Rastafarians use marijuana in
their spiritual and religious ceremonies. These individuals have the right to exercise their religion,
and The First Amendment in our Constitution protects these rights. Smoking marijuana does not

The minister s son in his conceited impotence violates Tess more cruelly than her sensual lover

In Thomas Hardy s Tess of the d Urbervilles (published in 1891), Hardy portrays his heroine, Tess,
as an innocent and poor country girl; a symbolic version of the rural women of the era who were
mercilessly down trodden in a male dominated world, and who, when abused, were blamed for
it. This novel has evoked generations of readers sympathy because of Hardy s portrayal of Tess s

This view of Tess is a stark contrast to the way in which Alec viewed Tess. To Alec Tess was seen
as a prize, his focus was physical. It was because of this that he behaved and spoke in such a
sexual way well, my big Beauty . There are moments throughout the first half of the novel however,
when Alec fancies that he would like to love Tess, but every time Tess shows that she does not
love him; he does not seem to care Tess, why do you always dislike my kissing you? I suppose
because I don t love you . Tess was not emotionally attached to Alec. Throughout their dialogue is
the suggestion that Alec could see that she would never love him you ll never love me I fear. I
have said so often. It is true. I have never really and truly loved you, and I think I never can . In
opposition to the suggestion that Alec may want to love Tess, she is continually treated as if a
prize animal remember my lady, I have been your master once I will be your master again . Tess
feelings towards Angel however, were those of intimacy, affection and love. She was prepared to

People have become so reliant on technology and just in the last couple of years on ipads and

become reliant upon the convenience and simplicity. These products are sold at nearly every

The conveniences of these devices are second to none. They are lightweight and easy to operate
children and adults alike can handle them with ease. The Tablets and ipads are perfect travel

On the other hand, I think that by using tablets, it lessens interactions with others. Children
generally, will play on their tablets instead of going outside to play with siblings or neighbors, or
reading books with their parents. They as an alternative have their books on the tablet and view
them that way. This is very sad because it is slowly pushing out the interpersonal relationships that
we often gain as children. Also, generally most games on the tablet are single player games,
making it almost worse than video games, where children can play tandemly and have some
interaction with one another. Adults are more likely to use them for social media websites such as

False Memory Psychology
In their paper A picture is worth a thousand lies: using false photographs to create false childhood
memories (2002), researchers Kimberly Wade, Maryanne Garry, Don Read, and Stephen Lindsay
addressed the topic of false memory creation, specifically if doctored or photoshopped images
could be used to create false childhood memories in adults. The goal of this study was to explore
whether or not subjects would accept the false photographs as real, which would lead to the
researchers being able to gather more information about the mechanisms involved in false memory

different cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.. If I were to research this, I would

My Observation Of Being A Teacher In Middle School
My time observing at Martin Luther King Jr Middle school was such a learning experience. As a
future teacher I learned a lot about myself. For one, I learned that being a teacher in a Title 1
school is not for me. Our course text in chapter 4 stated that there is a shortage in the right kinds
of teachers in urban communities. The book is absolutely right. When it comes to kids in Title
1 schools and urban communities it takes a special kind of teacher to deal with the issues that
appear in those kids. A teacher must be willing to put in extra time to work with the kids and be
strong enough to deal with their rough exteriors. Ms. Hill emphasized that idea to me. I ll be
honest, I have the cultural background to work with Title 1 kids, but I do not have the
personality for it. The kids that I observed, would tear me down and send me running if I were
their teacher because I am far too sensitive and I am a pushover at this time in my life. I would
love to work with Title 1 students eventually, but I know that I have a lot of growing to do as an
educator before that happens. From this experience, I also learned that when I become a teacher, I
want my students to like me as a person but that I also want to them to give me the utmost respect. I
feel that I can best do this by really getting to know my students, feeding into their interests, and by
building a personal connection with them so that they know that I care about them and what

Analysis Of The Water Related Adaptation Interventions For...
At the community level, from my observation in work, I recognized that the local communities
have the best capability to adapt with the adverse impacts. People had managed to protect their
livelihood resources such as cropping fields, ponds, aquaculture farms and domestic facilities. For
example, in the early rainy season, some focal groups of local residents are formed. These groups
are responsible for monitoring the water levels and protecting proactively the irrigationfacilities and
the critical areas of dykes. In order to cope with inundation, local residents have to work together to
dredge the small channels and to upgrade the paddy field embankments when they get the heavy
rain forecast. They have stored fresh water and changed in their water use to cope with potential
floods, storm, inundation and drought.
In short, the water related adaptation interventions in Thai Binh province focuses on upgrading

coastal zones and developing the local communities respond effectively to climate change. iii.

Analysis Of Blazing Saddles
An eerie flute sounds in the distance. Smack dab in the center of, let s call it, A Staple Town in the
Wild Westв„ў are two cowboys in the midst of a head to head shootout for God knows what a
spilled drink, malicious comments, a poached lover. The piercing mix of sand and wind scathing
your skin, eyes blinded by the high noonsun shining from above, and of course, the token roll of
tumbleweed barely in your line of eyesight. One... two... three... Shoot! The hero always prevails...
quite disparate imagery compared to Mel Brooks 1974 classic, Blazing Saddles. The Westernmotif
is one that has been trivialized, heckled, idealized, subverted , and replicated exponentially
throughout not only American cinemas but motion pictures world wide. Blazing Saddles serves
as both a form of this subversion and a burlesque depiction of the genre itself. The film s complex
sense of humor prioritizes aspects that can only be completely relished based on the personal
experiences of the viewer a satirical comedy attempting (and succeeding) at ridiculing copious
aspects of an otherwise ideal Western society. Blazing Saddles serves as a mockery of the
traditional white westerner archetype, the Ku Klux, and all sorts of minority groups, while
simultaneously bringing awareness to the harsh treatment and racial prejudice against African
Americans. Brooks utilizes the parodying aspects and themes evident in Blazing Saddles as a
method to subvert principles of the Western genre.

Extend School Year
Extend the School Year, Extend Opportunities I m bored. There s nothing to do! These words are
echoed many times during the summer by teenagers and children around America. Hours are
wasted away wandering mindlessly around the house, sitting in front of a television screen, or
simply sleeping to make the time pass by faster. Meanwhile, across the world students are spending
their time in school studying and getting ahead, while America is continually dropping in its
rankings. The aches and pains of boredom during the seemingly endless summercould be put to a
stop by simply making the school year longer. Furthermore, other positive changes would be seen
by lengthening the learning season. By extending both the primary and secondary... Show more

Across America, the few schools that have already extended the school year have all reported
similar and positive results. This evidence alone should be enough to change the federal law to
increase the minimum number of days in a school year. Because of the direct relationship shown
between the length of the school year and international academic rankings and the constructive
changes seen in schools in America with longer school years, the ineffective structure of the
American school calendar should be modified as to make the school year longer, helping
Americans succeed and compete globally with other leading countries. Not only is America s
diminutive academic school year restricting the US s global competitiveness, but the structure of
the school year is very ineffective, especially the long summer break. First of all, long summer
vacations were not even intended for today s American society. The original purpose of an extended
summer vacation was for children to help their family tend to their farms in America s past
agricultural society. Now that America is no longer an agricultural society, but rather post
industrial, the long vacation is pointless and actually detrimental (Summer Vacation is No Longer
Necessary). Unlike America, most advanced nations have adapted to their changing societies and

The Discovery Of Gold And Australia
The discovery of gold in Australia dramatically changed the course of our steadily developing
country. The gold rush massively impacted every aspect of the nation, although not all these
changes were positive. With the gold rush came the introduction of more diverse culture, increased
population and infrastructure. Before the 1850 s, Australiawas a prison colony meant as a
punishment for convicts of the British. However, in just the fifty years after the beginning of the
Australian gold rush, Australia became an independent country. From a wilderness inhabited by
convicts to a free and federated nation in less than half a century. Without the gold rush, our
society wouldn t be what it is today. The discovery of gold sparked a massive influx of
immigration to the still forming country of Australia. During the very early years of the gold rush,
NSW and Victoria were the centre for gold mining and attracted thousands of hopeful diggers. This
rapid introduction of new people had many impacts on Australian society. People came from
different points of the world to mine on Australia s gold rich fields. The majority of were British but
many others came from Germany, Italy, France, China and even America. This created a rich
multicultural melting pot that would forever forge a highly diverse population. A repercussion of a
sudden influx of multiculturalism was the targeting of a group of foreigners that attracted particular
attention. These were the Chinese; as their numbers began

Destruction Of Louisiana Essay
Louisiana is gradually declining in size due to the loss of coastal marshes and wetlands. After
several years, Louisiana has a big probability of having no land whatsoever. The problem is slowly
getting larger, and if something isn t performed, soon enough Louisiana will be a place that only
contains water. Regarding coastal erosions, it alters places economically, environmentally, and
socially. Natural events happen that leads to the destruction of Louisianas wetlands; however,
human activities causes it too. First of all, Louisiana s economy is abundantly affected in this
catastrophe. Fishing industry is greatly impacted because if the coastal marshes disappears, then the

Instead of sustaining marshes, it adds on to the problem. From page 36, it states, They direct river
water straight into the Gulf of Mexico, where it no longer deposits sediment along the coast.
Levees have the capability to stop the sediment, and that s a huge detriment to the marshes.
Therefore, levees can t support the marshes that well and keep the sea level rise. Although, the
blame can be also directed to human activities. Agriculture, cutting down forests, oil drilling, and
constantly constructing building, roads, and cities. For example, from page 13, it explicitly
shows, The search for oil in the coastal marshes has hastened coastal erosion. People might not
recognize right away, but rash decisions can quickly endanger wetlands and marshes. If Louisiana
gets smaller, people who live there can be slightly in fault. Every decision can result with
consequences. Even if the human population were the cause to this humungous problem, natural
causes are part of the reasons as to why Louisiana is losing too much land every hour. Such as
having salt water in Baton Rouge s water. From page 37, it states, The slower river current would
allow saltwater from the Gulf of Mexico to intrude up the Mississippi River as far as Baton Rouge.
Saltwater isn t healthy, and it s best if it s blocked to approach clean water. There are already too
much expenses, and health problems will only add up to more

glycerol to keep themselves hydrated. Medicinal services suppliers now and again give glycerol

Yezidi Research Paper
While the Yezidi live mostly in Kurdistan and speak a dialect of Kurdish, they are not to be
confused with the Kurdish people. Ethnically, Yezidis are Kurdish but in every other aspect, they
are certainly a culture of their own. Primarily, the largest distinction for the Yezidi is their religion.
Due to this, the Yezidi people differ from most others in their society because of the differences
that their religion leads to. The kinship aspect of Yezidi culture is very distinct and relates to their
religious beliefs. Yezidi prevents any converts to their religion, Yezidism. In History of the Yezidi
written by Kitab Al Jilwa, the author writes generally, historians, anthropologists and sociologists

Joshua Project addresses this as well saying Yezidis aren t supposed to wear the color blue or eat
lettuce. Their holy day is Wednesday and they aren t supposed to take showers on that day. These
are all features of the Yezidi culture that is crucially important to be aware of. During cross cultural
ministry with this group, it could be detrimental to the ministry efforts if the missionary is not
aware of these practices. Yezidism is a religion of orthopraxy. This is seen through their many
rituals, rules, and exclusivity. Encyclopedia Iranica describes these crucial customs the best. The
editors write that the Yazidis concern with religious purity, and their reluctance to mix elements
perceived to be incompatible, is shown not only in their caste system, but also in various taboos
affecting everyday life. One of the interesting taboos that the article in this encyclopedia mentions is
the purity of the four elements. There is a taboo for spitting on the ground (the element earth),

A Study On State Bank Of India

FINDINGS OF THE REPORT
The following are the major findings of the report:
1.It is evident from personal observation and also from the analysis of 5.1,5.2,5.3 and5.4 that:
Almost 95% of the people in Guwahati have their accounts in State Bank of India. This is because
everyone has the stereotype that State Bank of India is the best amongst all the banks.
The younger generation people are comfortable in banking with the privatized banks while the elder
generation seems to be comfortable with the nationalized banks.
Now a days, it is found that customers are willing to have their accounts in multiple banks rather
than having it in one bank.

5.5.5 and 5.5.6 that:
The various facilities provided by the banks like availability of information brochures, ATM
machines in convenient locations, no long line ups at counters etc. are very important now a days
to gain customer satisfaction regarding the banks they are banking with. Also the customers like a
pleasant and attractive dГ©cor within the banks so that they can feel relax while doing their
important work with the banks.

5.6.5 ,5.6.6 and 5.6.7 that:
The manner, appearance, efficiency, professionalism and knowledge of the staffs of the bank also
play an important role in driving customers to their respective banks. The reason is that if the
staffs are not able to handle the queries or problems of the staffs then the customers are not
tempted to do banking with a particular bank. This may be either with a nationalized or a privatized
bank.

The Dramatic Effectiveness and Significance of Act 3,...
The Dramatic Effectiveness and Significance of Act 3, Scene 1 in Romeo and Juliet Shakespeare
s second tragedy Romeo and Juliet was written between 1594 and 1596. The play is set in
Verona a city in the north of Italy. In the play it is portrayed as a small independent country. The
prince of Verona rules the city like a king and everyone obeys him. It is set over a period of four
day. Shakespeare got the idea from a poem by Arthur Brooke called the tragical history of
Romeus and Juliet which had been written in 1562. Shakespeare s version of the story is very

The Causes Of Early Basketball Dynasties In The United States
14.
Early Basketball Dynasties Several teams in both college and the professional level formed
early dynasties. Some say that this contributed to the unpopularity of the game during their
reigns because the outcomes were too predictable. In the NBA, the Minnesota Lakers had a
dynasty going; led by Mikan, they won championships in 5 of 6 seasons from 1949 to 1954.
Even as the league changed its rules, and as Mikan s scoring dipped, the Lakers rolled. However,
the game itself was becoming harder to watch. The Boston Celtics would continue where
Minnesota left off. It started in 1957, when the Boston Celtics defeated the St. Louis Hawks in a
tough best of seven game series. That was the first of an incredible 11 championships in 13 seasons.
Some say that the Celtics Destiny is the most incredible in history but the UCLA Bruins college
basketball team might have something to say about that. For 12 seasons, beginning with the
1963 1964 season, Coach John Wooden and the Bruins won a record 10 NCAA titles; including
seven in a row. The only years they did not win were 1965 66 season where they had a bad run of
injuries and illnesses. Texas Western won that year and we ll discuss that importance later. The
other year was the 1973 1974 season. Coach Wooden was ill a good portion of that year and
would retire the next year. This was an amazing run and in my opinion solidified what is the
greatest dynasty in the history of sports. I say this because in college basketball you have

  • 2. Symbolism in Greasy Lake Greasy Lake Greasy Lake by Tom Coraghessan Boyle, is the story of a group of adolescents, searching for the one situation that will proclaim them as bad boys and how their minds change. As the story begins, the narrator gives the impression that he feels he and the others boys should have taken notice of some obvious clues about themselves. These clues would have led them to the conclusion that they were far from the bad guys they wished to be. However, the oblivious teenagers ignore these obvious signs and continue in search of their goal. In this story, Boyle uses many symbols to create the theme. The individual vehicles are each symbols in the portion of the story that they appear. For example, early in the story, the narrator... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 3. Genre Of Music Essay Our data showed some interesting trends for each genre of music. While many of our tests fell in line with what we predicted with our hypothesis, we did have some outliers that we did not account for. As stated previously, we started by testing the resting heart rate of our subjects as our constant. The overall average of our subjects heart rates was 69.92 BPM which falls in line with the standard average. However, some subjects had a harder time relaxing completely while being tested and therefore had a higher resting heart rate. Once the resting heart rate was established, we were then able to compare the heart rates while the subjects were listening to music and see if we could find a significant difference that supported our ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another explanation for these increases could be that several subjects started dancing in their seats when they heard the song. The physical movement could have been a cause for the raise in the heart rates. These increases also fit what we originally predicted in our original hypothesis. The final genre that we tested was classical music and we used Adagio for Strings by Samuel Barber. The average heart rate for this song was 70.12 BPM which is just a 0.20 difference from the resting average. The tempo for this song was significantly less than all of the other genres at just 77 BPM. Classical music has multiple studies done suggesting that it can improve newborn babies IQ, helps while studying and helps you fall asleep. While this is not what we tested for, the fact that classical music lowered or kept almost every subjects heart rate the same, backs up some of these previous studies that have been performed. In our data, there was one person who was completely different from the rest of the data. As stated previously, all of our subjects tested, except for one, were 18 22 male and female college students. The one subject who did not fit the mold of our other subjects was a male, college professor. This subject s response to all of the music genres did not come close to any other person s response. With every single genre of music that was played for this subject, their heart rate lowered significantly. There are a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Summary Of Three Girls By Oates It was like a child s game in which you stare at foliage, grass, clouds in the sky, and suddenly you see a face or a figure, and after that recognition you can t not see the hidden shape, its staring you in the face. (Oates, 95) Oates Three Girls tells the story of two girl poets in the Strand Bookstore in Manhattan on a snowy day in March of 1956. They wander through the aisles of poetry, with commentary about various poets and collections of poetries and how they reflected on the girl poets . We were girl poets passionately enamored of T.S. Eliot but scornful of Robert Frost, whom we d been made to memorize in high school Slyly we communicated in code phrases from Eliot in the presence of obtuse others in our dining hall and residence. (Oates, 92) Suddenly she is pulled from her thoughts, as her friend touches her wrist and guides her further into the store to stumble upon Marilyn Monroe. From here, the girl poets follow her discretely, with a commentary of how Monroe s discretion was so much different form how she was normally seen. She was, at that moment, not a garnish blond showgirl , but rather this woman was an individual wholly absorbed in selecting, leafing through, pausing to read books (Oates, 93) They continue to follow her until she reaches the storefront, where they volunteer to pay for her books to keep the secret of her being here. From there they return her books to her outside, with her gifting them the Selected Poems of Marianne Moore before departing. The story closes with the two girl poets sharing their first kiss. The chosen quote, ( It was like a child s game in which you stare at foliage, grass, clouds in the sky, and suddenly you see a face or a figure, and after that recognition you can t not see the hidden shape, its staring you in the face. (Oates, 95)) plays not only to the main plot of the story (the girl poets discovering Marilyn Monroe in the Strand Bookstore), but also to the subplot (the girl poets sharing their first kiss and becoming lovers) as well. It applies to the main plot very clearly through two sides: that though by this point in the story only the girl poets have discovered it is Monroe, the realization that others could at moment s ... • 5. Leading Community Businesses And Governments Admit... Introduction Leading community businesses and governments admit Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) as an official policy objective. Those companies who apply CSR are able to maintain sustainable progress. This development covers social, economic and environmental influence in how they run (Clegg, 2011, p. 216). Three areas are the bases of the triple bottom line (TBL) approach (Elkington, 1994). CSR itself has various meaning but in more simple way it can be defined as firms obligation to act ethically and to facilitate elaboration. Thereby they try to make employees life better and likewise help to demonstrate a positive impact on local society. Therefore businesses are responsible for two factors of how they operate. Firstly, they should be concerned about the quality of management including people and operations. Secondly, they have to consider the character and amount of their effect on community in different fields. External stakeholders take a huge concern on how an organisation acts whether they perform well in their products, services, and society or not. Moreover they take an interest in how they care towards the workforce (Baker, 2004). The following paper demonstrates the major reasons of why businesses should take CSR seriously and what advantages does CSR have when they use it. First aspect will be related to reputation and brand image. Then it will be followed by strategy of cost reduction. Third aspect will explain the approaches to gain a competitive ... But a more profound analysis illustrates that the song is a metaphor describing that Kanye West is feeling like he is on top of the world, as a valued idol at the peak of his music career. However, the larger themes within the song that flows throughout the album implies the experiencing of dark fantasies, pursuing the American dream, evolving into the monster one would never thought he would evolve into, the flashing lights that blind rather than brighten, falling in love and then undervaluing the relationship, sensual exploits as a heartbreaking alternative for loss of love, being lost in the labyrinth of the American lifestyle;... The surprise is the vocal harmonies. After the accords of Can we get much higher , the rhythm aggressively bangs into motion and Dark Fantasy opens. I fantasized about this back in Chicago/ Mercy, mercy, that Murcielago, West raps, apparently astonished that he accomplished all he ever desired. For the rest of Dark Fantasy, Kanye is liberally combining the luxuries ( Mercy, mercy me, that Murcielago ) and the existential ( Hey teacher, teacher/Tell me how do you respond to the students?/And refresh the page and restart the memory?/And re spark the soul and rebuild the energy? ). Kanye West identifies himself as a leader, but contemplates on how to develop the world into a better one, specifically for the Black Community. • 8. Compare And Differences Of Fidel Castro And Augusto Pinochet Compare and contrast the manners in which two authoritarian leaders [Fidel Castro and Augusto Pinochet] established and maintained their rule during their respective reigns. Throughout the course of history, several authoritarian leaders have risen to power and maintained their acquired power through physical, violent means. Two authoritarian leaders that have transformed their acquired power into dictatorial rights are Fidel Castro of Cuba and Augusto Pinochet of Chile. Interestingly, Castro and Pinochet differed in their ideals about the ideal structure of governments. While Castro advocated for a socialist, Marxist, anti imperialist Cuba, Pinochet favored a anti Marxist, anti socialist, capitalist Chile. Despite their differing ideals, both shared several similarities in their efforts to establish and maintain their power. Both individuals rose to power in a similar manner: a sort of coup d Г©tat. Both individuals maintained power through positive and negative means. Castro and Pinochet introduced several economic reforms that mostly benefited the people of Cuba and Chile. While these economic reforms allowed for the financial freedom of many Cubans and Chileans, the dictatorial rulers politically repressed the residents of Cuba and Chile. While many historians believe that Castro and Pinochet greatly differed due to their opposing beliefs, both dictators share multiple similarities in the ways that they rose to power, negatively maintained power, and positively ... The birth of Modernismran between the 18th and 19th century around the time of the industrial revolution. The industrial revolution caused very quick changes in technology, manufacturing and transportation as well as other aspects. Other arts such as literature and music had massively changed, shaping the music we listen to and the books we read to this day. The modernist period saw many composers start to experiment with their music which was a change from the romantic period. The romantic period was very traditional but in the early 20th century, composers had started to use new melodies and harmonies that were considered unusual at the time. One of the most famous musicians to thrive in the modernist period was the American composer Aaron Copland. Some of his most famous work would be his compositions for the films Of Mice and Men and Our Town . He very much went with the fast changing times that were happening around him. In his growth as a composer Copland mirrored the important trends of his time. After his return from Paris, he worked with jazz rhythms in Music for the Theater (1925) and the Piano Concerto (1926). • 10. Supply And Demand Of Supply Supply and demand is perhaps one of the most fundamental concepts of economics and it is the backbone of a market economy. Demand refers to how much (quantity) of a product or service is desired by buyers. The quantity demanded is the amount of a product people are willing to buy at a certain price; the relationship between price and quantity demanded is known as the demand relationship. Supply represents how much the market can offer. The quantity supplied refers to the amount of a certain good producers are willing to supply when receiving a certain price. The correlation between price and how much of a good or service is supplied to the market is known as the supply relationship. Price, therefore, is a reflection of supply and demand.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... B. The Law of Supply Like the law of demand, the law of supply demonstrates the quantities that will be sold at a certain price. But unlike the law of demand, the supply relationship shows an upward slope. This means that the higher the price, the higher the quantity supplied. Producers supply more at a higher price because selling a higher quantity at a higher price increases revenue. economics4.gif A, B and C are points on the supply curve. Each point on the curve reflects a direct correlation between quantity supplied (Q) and price (P). At point B, the quantity supplied will be Q2 and the price will be P2, and so on. (To learn how economic factors are used in currency trading, read Forex Walkthrough: Economics.) Time and Supply Unlike the demand relationship, however, the supply relationship is a factor of time. Time is important to supply because suppliers must, but cannot always, react quickly to a change in demand or price. So it is important to try and determine whether a price change that is caused by demand will be temporary or permanent. Let s say there s a sudden increase in the demand and price for umbrellas in an unexpected rainy season; suppliers may simply accommodate demand by using their production equipment more intensively. If, however, there is a climate change, and the population will need umbrellas year round, the change in demand and price will be expected to be long term; suppliers will have to change their equipment and production ... Funeral Procession In the article Death in Motion: Funeral Processions in the Forum Romanum authors Diane Favro and Christopher Johanson fully and creatively discuss funeral processions in Rome with the earliest funeral parade being from the middle republican period and the latter two being during the imperial period. The interesting aspect the authors manage to incorporate into their writing is not only the fact that they took multiple interpretation into account for certain funeral processions, but also that they showed multiple diagrams of the funerary routes, and 3d imaging of certain spaces that shed light on the different views spectators might have had, and whether these views would be rational for what the procession was trying to convey. These 3d diagrams... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The funerary processions of the Middle republic discussed here are from 183 BCE to 145 BCE the importance of these dates to me is that the Third Macedonian wars are occurring at this time from 171 to 168 BCE, and as we know Octavius is victorious in a naval battle and builds the Porticus Octavia as triumphal symbol of his title of imperator essentially marking the beginning of the end of the republic. The first precedent discussed were the funerals of the Cornelii, and an important distinction of the Cornelii compared to previous funerary processions was that they made a stop at the Capitoline Hill to get an the wax mask of Scipio Africanus. This extra stop is important because it not only lengthened the procession allowing for a larger crowd to gather, it also it emphasized a sequence notable buildings, art, and urban features that by the participants sequence of views for those gathering at the Forum. This is important in understanding the Hellenization of Rome because during the Imperial period funerary processions emulate certain features of their predecessors superficially while trying to legitimize imperial power. During the Imperial period objects from the Republic remained visible, every building, painting, etc. was now imprinted ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In December 1944, Prime Minister Winston Churchill stood on the world s stage and announced the largest forced population transfer in human history the ethnic cleansing of post war Germany (Douglas). Up until the 1970 s or so, resources written in English on this particular involuntary migration were nonexistent; even in Europe, the subject is considered taboo. At about the same time the Cold War was getting cold, an increasing number of German expellees began to speak up about their forgotten holocaust. Many created organizations that demanded compensation for their suffering, especially in West Germany. Still, the Allies kept the discussions to a mum; some (such as Czechoslovakia) continued to justify the cleansing as a fit punishment for Nazi crimes and refused to acknowledge the atrocity as anything more. After the fall of the U.S.S.R. and the reconciliation of East and West Germany, the subject became a slightly more open topic. After the Nuremberg Trials in 1945 concluded that forced immigration was a crime against humanity, the issue could no longer be ignored... or so it seemed. Today ethnic cleansing is considered a crime against international law, although some consider the forced expulsion of Germans after WWII to have been a legal procedure at the time (seeing as such crimes were not addressed by the UN Declaration of Human Rights nor the European Convention on Human Rights in 1950). The expulsion continues to make appearances in modern politics, especially in Europe; for instance, a declaration in 1997 by the Czech Republic has effectively closed the topic and attempted to restrict legal claims made by German descendants ( Germans Expelled ). Art will be made for the purpose of reproduction to reach the highest audience. The aura of an object will no longer matter because it will not be part of the class consciousness. As Benjamin brings up the debate of the cult value versus the exhibition value, the value of art will change so that it s only function will be based on how many times it can be reproduced. Horkheimer and Adorno describe the culture industry as, millions participate in it, certain reproduction processes are necessary that inevitably require identical needs in innumerable places to be satisfied with identical goods (1256). Benjamin argues that as soon as the authenticity is lost, art s function is transformed. Horkheimer and Adorno describe a new function of art, to produce for mass consumption. Those in control of the modes of production want to replace the ritual value with a exhibition value to increase profit. Thus creating a bigger divide between the working class and the upper class. Art is being given a new value under capitalism. Benjamin suggests that what is being created within the society is correlated to that value that society puts on art. The quality of art being produced will shift from the cult value and the exhibition value. • 18. Improving An Employee s Stress Level Is Through Supervision Alternatively, one of the most common methods used to manage an employee s stress level is through supervision. As previously stated, social workers who work within the child welfare system can use daily debriefing based on the critical incidents that occur with this population. For example, from personal experience of being a supervisor over case managers working with children, supervision was crucial not only for myself but for the caseworkers. The caseworkers were able to release their emotions, concerns, and possible fears when dealing with their clients and their family. Huss (2012) shows how employees use supervision to cope and discuss stressful situations, however, it is explained how supervision is beginning to suddenly decrease. Huss (2012) describes how supervision is beginning to decrease, which can be due to the possible lack of supervisory positions or funding. This is an example of why the current practices, i.e. EPA, supervision, and OD, need to change within organizations. Based on personal experience, in order to help manage an employees stress, an organization needs to ensure that their staff has the tools needed to work efficiently and effectively. Organizations must be aware of the stress that can be caused by the policies, regulations and conflicting demands of the external and internal factors that influence an employee s work (Dextras Gautier, Marchand, Haines, 2012). • 21. Cycle Of Life And Imagery In The Grave By Katherine Anne... The Grave by Katherine Anne Porter is a story that illustrates the initiation of a child from innocence to experience. The underlying theme behind the central idea of innocence to experience is the cycle of life and death and rebirth. This theme is illustrated in the young protagonist, Miranda, and her epiphany on the concept of the cycle of life and rebirth. The dominant tone in The Grave is melancholic, and that tone is created through the language elements of symbolism, diction, and imagery. The story s tone is also supported by the fictionelement character. Porter begins the story with Miranda and her brother Paul exploring a graveyard while out hunting. As they continue with their hunt, Paul shoots a rabbitthat is about to give birth. Paul proceeds to carefully slit the dead rabbit open revealing her young unborn babies. This moment is an epiphany for young Miranda as she understands the meaning of rebirth and the cycle of life and death. Miranda later reflects upon this incident years later in a foreign city s busy bazaar and is reminded of the event that transformed her from an innocent child to a more experienced and knowledgeable young woman. One of the most important language elements that Porter uses in the story is symbolism, which illustrates innocence and experience. Porter uses symbolism when Miranda and Paul explore their forefathers graves. The graves represent death and experience, while Miranda and Paul represent childhood and innocence. ... Critical Success Factors Of A Firm s Performance Critical success factors are measures of those aspects of a firm s performance that are essential to its competitive advantage and, therefore, to its success (Blocher, Stout, Juras, Cokins, 2013). One of the original uses of Critical Success Factors as a concept is by McKinsey and Company in Boston during the 1950s to determine how a corporation should compete in each of its many businessunits (Isakson Sircar, 1990). As can be seen by the above quote, for a company in the real estatebusiness all of these critical success factors are either dependent upon or relate to the service provided by the firm. If a company is not providing the level or type of service which consumers are demanding, then none of the critical success factors mentioned above will show a positive position or future for the company. A generational change in the needs and wants of consumers in the real estate business has caused the growth of what the traditional service providers are calling hybrids, such as Redfin, Help A Sell, and Xome, which provide services to consumers that focus heavily on technological innovation and cutting cost for their customers (Inman, 2015). Sales, profitability, and liquidity are the three financial critical success factors. These relationships are ultimately embedded into our memory for basically the rest of our lives, and with some shape or form, shape us to who we are today. These relations, similarly have to do with faces, actions and personal experiences that we have never been exposed to before. This type of exposure is apparent in Herman Melvilles Typee, where identity is of critical importance to that of Tommo, the narrator, along with the tribe that he encounters while stranded on the island. There are numerous instance as to where Tommo questions his moral and somewhat physical identity in Typee. These events such as Tommos decision to tattoo himself is a major identity crisis because it s not something he, nor his Western cultureis really exposed to or familiar with. The Typee practices and societal structures displayed by Melville in Typee allows the reader in some case, to compare and contrast how Western civilization and the other [Typee] reaffirm identity. They as an alternative have their books on the tablet and view them that way. This is very sad because it is slowly pushing out the interpersonal relationships that we often gain as children. • 32. False Memory Psychology In their paper A picture is worth a thousand lies: using false photographs to create false childhood memories (2002), researchers Kimberly Wade, Maryanne Garry, Don Read, and Stephen Lindsay addressed the topic of false memory creation, specifically if doctored or photoshopped images could be used to create false childhood memories in adults. The goal of this study was to explore whether or not subjects would accept the false photographs as real, which would lead to the researchers being able to gather more information about the mechanisms involved in false memory production. This study, and many before it, relied on three main conditions that will result in false memory. First of all, the participants must believe that the suggested memory ... Ex. if participants were shown a picture of a parked car, but the background was full of smoke and fire, would the participants remember the car as being a wreck? Another potential question for future research is how the claim that false memory can be induced through pictures holds up against a more diverse sample of people, including children and elderly people, and those from different cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.. If I were to research this, I would hypothesize that it would be more difficult to plant false memories in people living in poverty, and in very young children, because I imagine the amount of salient memories of events would be smaller. There would be less of the feeling that this is a picture so it must have happened if they would have never had the opportunity to ride in a hot air balloon, as shown in this ... • 33. My Observation Of Being A Teacher In Middle School My time observing at Martin Luther King Jr Middle school was such a learning experience. As a future teacher I learned a lot about myself. For one, I learned that being a teacher in a Title 1 school is not for me. Our course text in chapter 4 stated that there is a shortage in the right kinds of teachers in urban communities. The book is absolutely right. When it comes to kids in Title 1 schools and urban communities it takes a special kind of teacher to deal with the issues that appear in those kids. A teacher must be willing to put in extra time to work with the kids and be strong enough to deal with their rough exteriors. Ms. Hill emphasized that idea to me. I ll be honest, I have the cultural background to work with Title 1 kids, but I do not have the personality for it. The kids that I observed, would tear me down and send me running if I were their teacher because I am far too sensitive and I am a pushover at this time in my life. I would love to work with Title 1 students eventually, but I know that I have a lot of growing to do as an educator before that happens. From this experience, I also learned that when I become a teacher, I want my students to like me as a person but that I also want to them to give me the utmost respect. I feel that I can best do this by really getting to know my students, feeding into their interests, and by building a personal connection with them so that they know that I care about them and what happens to them. At the community level, from my observation in work, I recognized that the local communities have the best capability to adapt with the adverse impacts. People had managed to protect their livelihood resources such as cropping fields, ponds, aquaculture farms and domestic facilities. For example, in the early rainy season, some focal groups of local residents are formed. These groups are responsible for monitoring the water levels and protecting proactively the irrigationfacilities and the critical areas of dykes. In order to cope with inundation, local residents have to work together to dredge the small channels and to upgrade the paddy field embankments when they get the heavy rain forecast. They have stored fresh water and changed in their water use to cope with potential floods, storm, inundation and drought. In short, the water related adaptation interventions in Thai Binh province focuses on upgrading hard facilities in irrigation and water supply systems; capacity building programs; afforestation in coastal zones and developing the local communities respond effectively to climate change. iii. • 55. The Causes Of Early Basketball Dynasties In The United States 14. Early Basketball Dynasties Several teams in both college and the professional level formed early dynasties. Some say that this contributed to the unpopularity of the game during their reigns because the outcomes were too predictable. In the NBA, the Minnesota Lakers had a dynasty going; led by Mikan, they won championships in 5 of 6 seasons from 1949 to 1954. Even as the league changed its rules, and as Mikan s scoring dipped, the Lakers rolled. However, the game itself was becoming harder to watch. The Boston Celtics would continue where Minnesota left off. It started in 1957, when the Boston Celtics defeated the St. Louis Hawks in a tough best of seven game series. That was the first of an incredible 11 championships in 13 seasons. Some say that the Celtics Destiny is the most incredible in history but the UCLA Bruins college basketball team might have something to say about that. For 12 seasons, beginning with the 1963 1964 season, Coach John Wooden and the Bruins won a record 10 NCAA titles; including seven in a row. The only years they did not win were 1965 66 season where they had a bad run of injuries and illnesses. Texas Western won that year and we ll discuss that importance later. The other year was the 1973 1974 season. Coach Wooden was ill a good portion of that year and would retire the next year. This was an amazing run and in my opinion solidified what is the greatest dynasty in the history of sports. I say this because in college basketball you have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
