Weimar Republic Failure
There are many historians that believe the Weimar Republic was doomed from the beginning of its
existence as a rump state of the once powerful German Empire. Other historians believe the
republic is not such a failure as it seems in textbooks and online articles. Both sides unanimously
agree that the Weimar Republicwas a failed attempt at bringing democracy to a predominantly
monarchical (and tyrannical) Europe. The majority of historians that agree the ill fated Weimar
Republic was a smudge on Germanyduring the Interwar Period have a large amount of validities
to support that claim. However, these validities also apply to the latter (to a lesser extent) , with
one major problem resolved by the republic. One of the claims is that the Weimar Republic was
simply too weak to establish itself as a political power in Germany, being contested by left and
right wing extremist groups. There were often frequent rebellions in Germany, led by Communists
and Marxists. The military at the time was far too outnumbered to quell these rebellions in their
own jurisdiction. Another major impediment was the hyperinflation of the currency of that time,
the German Mark. After the Great War, Germany was in a state of utter devastation and rebellion.
The Kaiser had just fled Germany, and she was now without a leader, essentially cutting head off
the snake. The military had also returned in a similar shape. The German economy was in ruins.
The Weimar Republic was still responsible for

Are you thinking about changing your appearance by getting a new haircut? Many people that try
to improve their self confidence, and the way that they look, while often choose to style their hair
differently. Although there are many different haircuts that you can get, one of the best is a
medium length layered haircut. This is a very trendy style that has been around for many decades.
However, choosing the right one can make all the difference in the world. Let s take a look at the
best medium length layered haircuts that are available today, haircuts that can definitely change the
way that you look for the better.

In most cases, your hair is cut around shoulder length, either a little above, or slightly below. The
idea is to create a significant amount of depth to the appearance of your hair, something that the
hair stylist will do after the initial cut is made.
Popularity of Medium Length Layered Haircuts
One of the primary reasons that this type of haircut is so popular with women is because it s easy
to maintain. Women with long hairmay have to spend several hours washing their hair, drying it,
and getting it to a state of perfection. Although longer hair might provide a woman with more flair
and possibilities, long hair is more difficult to manage, and therefore medium length haircuts can
sometimes be preferable.
Women that cut their hair short might risk having a less feminine appearance. You need to have
the right facial shape in order to sport a shorter hairdo. The typical pixie cut that some women
prefer usually looks better with a more rounded face. However, in the end, it really comes down to
how much work you want to put into your hair. The medium length layered hairdo, therefore, is a
happy medium for those that want to have more style options, yet will have less hair to manage on

Qin Dynasty Dbq Essay
The earliest Emperor of the Qin dynasty was Qin Shi Huang, who was born in 259BCE and
ultimately came into power at the age of 21. Despite accomplishing many significant achievements,
he attained this in a brutal and callous way. Arguments that will be clearly discussed and explained
in this assignment to emphasize the negative aspects of Qin Shi Huangare: the severe punishments
he enforced for criminals, his fierce and deceitful war strategies and the prohibiting and burning of
Confucius teachings.
Qin Shi Huang was feared by his subjects as he was seen as a barbaric and ruthless autocrat who
took extreme measures to preclude rebellion in his empire, mostly by enforcing severe punishments
for criminals. (Source 1) The penalty for major crime

Mass Media and Its Influence Negative Influence on American Society
It is the power that shapes and molds the mind of virtually every citizen, young or old, rich or
poor, simple or sophisticated (Sweet Liberty, 2000, 1). The media is a part of everyday life in
America. News and events outside of one s home or neighborhood are brought to their area via the
newspaper, magazines, radio, television, and the internet. As the quote above mentions mass
media, and its components, are very powerful and are capable of influencing one s mind, as well as
their behavior. The images and stories introduced to children and young adults make it difficult for

Children are easily swayed and influenced by the many images and pictures presented to them
through the media. By high school graduation, children will have spent roughly 50 percent more
time in front of a television than in front of a teacher (Dudley, 1999, 32). Parents, often times,
are too drained or pre occupied with their own lives, leading their children to find comfort in
watching television or playing video games which, consequently, become the prime examples for
their actions and behaviors. For all too many Americans, the real world has been replaced by the
false reality of the TV... (Sweet Liberty, 2000, 2). These children hear the news and watch shows
and films where innocent people are being stolen from or being killed, but they have nobody there
to teach them the difference between what is real and what is not, what is right and what is wrong.
An article printed in Time magazine, titled Suburban Smackdown, is a great example of how the
media persuades children to impersonate what they view on television. The article concentrates on
the violence of wrestling and how some children and young adults are putting on shows, costumes,
masks and all, for their neighbors based on these wrestling characters they see on TV. It may not
be the Rock vs. the Undertaker on prime time TV, but the high school boys of the Extreme

Tony In The Outsiders
Maria loved Tony from first sight. They saw each other and they both became hypnotized by love s
charm. Maria became very deeply in love with Tony. She invited him to visit her at her shop and
thought about him always. When her brother Bernardo died, she became devastated, but eventually
decided that her lovefor Tony was so great that nothing could tear them apart. The quotation said
by Emerson, We are the prisoners of our ideas, burrows itself deeply into West Side Story. This
quote means that we are imprisoned in our beliefs and do not allow them to alter. Maria loves Tony
so much; she decides she still wants to be with him instead of having any alteration occur between
her thoughts or actions.

The Goals And Philosophy Of Art
Goals and Philosophy:
Visual Merchandisers have many employment options available in many different sectors. I
believe that displays are all encompassing. It is the little details that culminate a theme or feel
that makes customers want to shop at a particular store and have a certain type of experience
depending on who they are. It is all about making an environment whether a store, a party, a
home, etc. as inviting and welcoming as possible. I strongly believe that there is so much
inspiration out there that can be used to create compelling store displays that provoke consumers
to shop and help maximize a store s profits. This is an interesting field where not only are artistic
skills necessary, but also the ability to merchandise the sales floor and make every visual aspect of
a store experience enjoyable.
My art is inspired by popular culture, the work of other artists in similar fields, and the work of
surrealist artists. The prospect of being able to have a job that comprises of creativity and a
unique perspective motivates me to pursue a career in art and design. I want to be able to have a
job that I feel is rewarding and where each day is somewhat different from the next which is
possible with visual merchandising because retail is always changing visually to keep up with trends
and seasons.
In the short term I hope to get a visual merchandising internship or job where I can get more
experience and use my skills that I have learned, in the retail environment. In

Ways People Respond To Conflict Essay
People respond to conflict in many ways. A few such ways include responding to conflict through
lying, deception, and caving in to survive. These are the cases with Diary of Anne Frank. and HItler
youth.
Lying is one way people deal with conflict. Why wouldn t it be. An example would be from the
Diary of Anne Frank. The Diary is in the point of view of a young girl and her family hiding from
the Nazis. She details her experiences in the annex as well as her thoughts and feelings of herself
and others around her. Essentially, Anne and her family lie to the government and neighbors. There
have even been many times when the Nazis have lied. They have lied to Jews by telling them they
would be taking showers and killed them. Lying seems normal in situations of conflict. People may
lie to save themselves or to save others. People may also lie to achieve a sort of goal, whether it be
good or bad. It seems to be a very common way of responding to conflict.
Deception falls into a similar, if not the same, category of lying. It is a trick or scheme to get what
you want. Again the example of this would be when Anne and her family hid in the annex. This,
like I said before, was to escape the Nazis and concentration camps. It ... Show more content on

It means listening to whomever you need to and doing things even if you don t agree with them

if they know it s wrong to protect themselves or their family. This is the case with HItler Youth .
The excerpt describes how life was for some people living under Hitler. Boys would join the
Hitler youth program and schools had to follow a Hitler approved curriculum. The teachers did not
agree with the new curriculum however they followed it for fear of being fired or sent to a

Black Gibbon Research Paper

Considered to be the world s greatest acrobats, the endangerment of gibbons proves to be a very
big deal. Using their powerful ability to brachiate, they can leap distances of 40 feet at speeds of
up to 35 mph while 200 feet above the ground, greater than any trapeze artist in our days. These
important primates include some of the rarest in the world, such as the Eastern black gibbon.

Natives to the forests of Southeast, South and East Asia, gibbons can be found in Thailand, China,
Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar, Bangladesh, India, Malaysia, and Indonesia (Gibbon

come down to the ground. Their hook shaped hands, long arms, and powerful legs allow for
brachiating at amazing heights and distances. While brachiating, gibbons can move at speeds up to

Suleiman the Magnificent
Suleiman the Magnificent
The Ottoman Empire was an empire lasting from 1299 to 1923. Osman was leading the small
Ottoman Empire in 1299 in western Anatolia and he was slowly extending his settlements away
from his Muslim neighbors. It was not allowed for Muslims to kill other Muslims. He had a
number of soldiers called the Ghazis who were brave, loyal and fearless. These solders helped
Osman tread into unknown land and spread his rule. Osman s name was becoming more known
and after his death, people called him courageous strong and great. This is where the centuries old
Turkish saying comes from: May he be as good as Osman. After a few centuries the Ottoman

If an enemy doesn t strike from outside, an enemy may strike from inside. A civil war can cause
many deaths and disrupt the focus of any leader. Suleiman would have to put all of his attention
to people fighting inside his nation instead of focusing on incoming attacks from the outside. A
lot of empires have fallen due to internal attacks. Interaction with other sectors was not too often
which helps people be in an environment where everyone follows the same religion. There is
also almost no interference from the government on how the leader chooses to run the Millets.
Things like taxes and sometimes even laws aren t checked by the government because there aren

backgrounds can now enter a land where they don t have to be feared of not being able to walk
in and get hurt because of their differences. This encourages travelers, who are usually traders to
come to this culturally diverse and peaceful land to trade their goods, instead of going to Europe
where only one religion was accepted: Christianity. Suleiman put out the laws on streets so that all
could read and understand what is allowed and what is not. This was important because now
everyone knew the difference between right and wrong. This also prevented officials from making
fake or arbitrary laws. The Millet system and publicly

Although Under Armour has done well over the past few years, they face though competition from
top players like Nike and Adidas. These larger companies have more resources and a greater
presence in the international market. There is also a threat of new entrants, and since UA does not
hold patents for its products, new and existing companies may begin to compete for a spot in the
performance apparel market. Other threats include the company s limited bargaining power
(resulting from their diverse supplier base) and the leverage held by wholesale customers.
Fortunately, UA does have the advantage of strong brand recognition, a reputation for innovative
and high quality products, and testimonials of world renowned athletes, minimizing the threat of
substitute products. Although the company was established more than fifteen years ago, Under
Armour, Inc. continues to be in the growth phase of its life cycle. Revenues this quarter increased

Self Identity In Cambio De Armas
Cambio de armas
The theme in which is constantly shown throughout the novel is the concept of self identity.
Identity is a state of mind in which one identifies his or her character traits in addition to one s
idea of being. Identity indicates one s mental, emotional and physical image of which they depict
themselves to be. It also refers to the construction of individual and society s characteristics by
which we are symbolized and recognized as to who we are. The concept of self identity is used in
many books and novels in order to tie the reader to the story. This is done in a way that the write

It is the belief in this existence of one s self, the assumption of all our experiences of
consciousness. We all embrace this identity that we feel is ours alone. I speak of my experiences
as experienced by me. I would seem to be talking nonsense, if I referred to myself in the plural or
spoke of how the multiplicity of me s experienced an event. Although most will submit to the
existence of levels of consciousness, we categorize those people who exhibit distinct personalities
as non ordinary. All popular theories of self identity set about the task of proving a singular self. I
will attempt to analyze the currently held theories of self identity, and consider cases where the
singular self identity of normal individuals is called into question. Psychologists seeking to clarify
this discussion have researched phenomena concerning the nature of self identity, and it s relation
with consciousness.
The second concept is the Random Identities. This ties in with the first concept of divided identity
because she is unable to give one single identity to the man. The author states on page one of the
novel: Next is the man: the one, he, the nameless man who she can call by which ever name that
comes to mind; they all function the same, and they all fit him. And when he comes in the house
he answers even if she calls him Hugo, Sebastian, Ignacio, Alfredo or whatever else. She refers to

Mao Zedong Of The Soviet Union
Throughout the course of China s vast history, there is not a more controversial, internationally
criticized and locally praised ruler than that of Chairman Mao Zedong. When Chairman Mao took
control of the Chinese government as leader of the newly established Communist Party, he was
most notably commended for helping unite Chinaafter years of civil war. After the previous regime
left the country nearly bankrupt, Mao faced the challenge of rebuilding China s economy, and he
believed that it could only be accomplished through true Communism, modeled after the Soviet
Union. Mao s vision was highly approved by the people initially as it reinvented the working class

In fact, nearly half of the arable land in China was divided amongst peasants. Still, Chairman Mao
was concerned with establishing the country as an international competitor and needed to
drastically increase the industrialization of China, which in turn required a massive increase in
production from the agricultural industry. Thus, in 1953, Chairman Mao encouraged peasant
farmers to begin cooperatively farming in which a few families from the same village pooled
together their resources to have a larger operation. China s reinvented production system enabled
peasants to produce larger harvests, which allowed these cooperatives to become more diversified
operations that could now raise livestock or non grain crops. Because the peasants were able to
share their knowledge, tools, machinery, and the workload, this method of farming proved to be
highly successful. Unfortunately, this type of production agriculture did not last long. Just a few
years later, Chairman Mao began to completely socialize the agricultural system to where it was no
longer the people s land but practically the government s entirely. China established the
collectivization process or the commune system in which people gave up all their animals and
tools, and were required to send a large majority of the grain they produced to the government. The

In learning about The Beatles over the past few months, I have gained great appreciation for
them as a band. Particularly, I really enjoyed learning about and listening to the many love songs
written by The Beatles. It was a difficult task to choose just three songs to write about, however I
chose the three songs I enjoyed most. They are each love songs from a different era of The Beatles
work throughout their years. I Should Have Known Better , Michelle , and Dear Prudence have all
left great impressions on me. I Should Have Known Better was issued on the B side of A Hard Day

single along with A Hard Day s Night as the Soundtrack to the film also called A Hard Day s Night,
which was released on July 10, 1964 (Wikipedia, 2016). This song was one of many inspired by
Bob Dylan as we learned he left quite the impression on the Beatles, especially Lennon. This
inspiration led Lennon to write more meaningful lyrics (Benitez, 2016). It is easy to understand
why this song was popular reaching the top Billboard charts at number 53 as Lennon s harmonica
playing skills are capturing (Wikipedia, 2016). The song opens with Lennon playing the
harmonica and it has a very upbeat, light tune and melody. This song is the first song since I m a

The World Problems Of North America
Words are powerful. When the average person in North America hears the term first world or the
phrase first world problems it s merely a way of classifying our world, and is not that deep. For
many, first world refers to countries that are advance and are leading the rest of the world such as
Canada and the US. Conversely, many people would refer to many countries in Africa as third world
. First worldproblems is an expression people from the first world nations use to complain about

Also, such notions grossly undermines the impacts of colonization that still persists in many
formerly colonized nations such as almost all of Africa. It important to note that first world nations

colonizers and many immigrants who came thereafter.
Not long ago, I recall a hashtag that was trending about people complaining about

Cinematic Techniques
The extraordinary film The 400 Blows (Francois Truffaut, 1959) skillfully uses cinematic devices
appropriately within the context of the theme. Part of the underlying theme of this movie as
explained by Truffaut himself is, ... to portray a child as honestly as possible... (Writing About
Film, 1982). It is the scenes in this movie that are most helpful in disclosing the overall theme of
the film. Within the scenes, the camera angles in this film play an important role in accentuating
the emotions behind the scene. The camera angles used in this film will be the primary focus of

There is a definite correlation here between the angle selected and the sense of childhood
innocence. However, this particular camera angle does not always hold the same meaning in every
shot.
A latter high angle shot involves the elementary school teacher. Mr. Bigey (GeorgesFlamant), the
teacher, is first demonstrated in this film by using a high angle close up. This angle presents the
teacher as a figure of authority and rule. Furthermore it establishes a feeling control. Humans are
most likely to look up to, figuratively speaking, figures of authority and control. As to follow
with the storyline, the teacher is almighty and can direct the children in any sort of fashion he
pleases. He has the control. This particular angle is appropriate for this scene because it
establishes, right away, that Mr. Bigey is a force to be reckoned with. For example, when
someone is knocked out in a fistfight and the first view they see upon awakening is the opponent
towering over them, they are more apt to recognize the authority and control considering the view.
That is why this angle works. Speaking of view, the next shot that will be discussed gives an
entirely different feel, partly because of the view, but it does remain within the definition of a high
angle shot.
In the reformatory, immediately after exiting the patty wagon, another high angle shot is employed
to reveal the reinforced bars on the ceiling giving the audience a

Essay on Prion Diseases
Prion Diseases
Abstract
Transmissible spongiform encephalopathies (TSEs) are neurodegenerative diseases that are thought
to be caused by the misfolding of prion proteins. Prions are able to replicate in the absence of
nucleic acids. TSEs include: scrapie, bovine spongiform encephalopathy, Creutzfeldt Jakob disease,
kuru, Gerstmann Straussler Scheinker disease, and Fatal Familial Insomnia. They can affect many
different animals, including humans. Currently, there are no ways to diagnose, treat, or cure TSEs,

2. The Prion Protein and Its Function
The prion protein (PrP) is unusual in that it has two stable isoforms. The cellular or normal form
of the prion protein is termed PrPC, while the disease form is termed PrPSC. Sharing the same
sequence of amino acids, or primary structure, PrPC and PrPSC differ in their secondary,
tertiary, and quaternary structures. The normal prion protein has N and C terminals, three alpha
helices, and two beta sheets (Soto, 2006, 40). Its function is still not completely understood.
However, scientists have found evidence that point to various possibilities. 1) Because most
PrPC are located in lipid rafts, membrane structures involved in signaling, it is suggested that
PrPC may also be a mediator in neuroprotective signaling pathways. 2) Interaction between PrPC
and Bcl 2, a ligand involved in protecting neurons from apoptosis, suggests the possibility that
PrPC may be an antiapoptotic protein. 3) PrPC has also been linked to copper metabolism in the
brain. In one particular study, PrP knockout mice, or mice that were genetically altered to not
express PrP, were found to have lower levels of copper in their brains and higher levels in their
serum (Soto, 2006, 42). However, in other studies with PrP knockout mice, most of the animals did
not display any obvious disorders, and those that did were found to have been affected by the
increase in concentration of another protein known as doppel.

Purkindule Cell Membrane Analysis
Results
Light microscopic results
The cerebellar cortex of control adult rats showed that the architecture of the cerebellum with H
E was made up of molecular, Purkinje cells and granular layers. The molecular layer was formed
mainly of fibers with a few glial cells [basket cells (BC) and stellate cells (SC)].
Purkinje cells were arranged in one row and appeared pyriform in shape. The granular layer
showed tightly packed small rounded cells (Fig. 1). With toluidine blue (semithin sections), the
cerebellar cortex showed molecular, Purkinje cells and granular layers. Purkinje cells were of large
pyriform somata with clear vesicular nuclei and prominent nucleoli along the outer margin of the
granular layer (Fig. 2). Immunohistochemical

This group showed a positive cytoplasmic immune reaction for caspase 3 of neuronal cells of
whole layers but less marked than that of the AL treated group (Fig. 12).
Transmission electron microscopic results
Ultrathin sections of the cerebellar cortex of the control group showed normal ultrastructure of
Purkinje cells with the characteristic large size of the somata, a euchromatic nucleus, and a
prominent nucleolus. The cytoplasm was rich in organelles with rough endoplasmic reticulum
cisternae, numerous mitochondria, and free ribosomes (Figs 13 and 14). Granule cells showed a
normal ultrastructure with their rounded heterochromatic nuclei. The cell was surrounded by a
shell of cytoplasm showing intact strands of rough endoplasmic reticulum, free ribosomes, and few
mitochondria (Fig. 15).
The cerebellar cortex of the NS treated group showed no ultrastructural deviation from the control
group.
The cerebellar cortex of the AL treated group showed
Purkinje cells with an irregular euchromatic nucleus with increased condensation of nuclear
chromatin, prominent invagination of its nuclear envelope, myelin figure formation, areas of
vacuolated cytoplasm,

Inventions And Inventions Of The United States
Imagine a time when the only way to get around was by riding a horse, or a time when the only
way to get in contact with someone was sending a letter, or a time when the only way to dig a hole
was using a shovel, during the mid 19th century young innovators, Alfred Nobel, Samuel Morse,
and Thomas Edison developed machines that made doing all that easier. Inventions and innovations
like dynamite, the railroads, and the telegraph helped the United Stateseconomy grow. Scientist
developed, a railroad that connected New York City to San Francisco, a telegraph that could send
messages across long distances within minutes, and dynamite which could blow up anything along
its path. The United States had a small, weak, economy, until the mid 1800s when inventions and
innovations united and strengthened the economy.
From the beginning of time, people have invented things and innovated to help expand their
economy. Gunpowder, the printing press, language, the wheel, pottery, post offices, and man
made bridges are all examples of inventions that led to economic growth. In 1800 prior to
railroads, the only practical way to travel and trade across long distances was along the nation s
natural waterways (Metzner 1). People could not work too far from home, travel , or even visit
family that lived far away. Even communication was a challenge, before the telegraph, telephone,
typewriter, and phonograph, spreading news throughout the world, or simply sending a family mail
could take days or

The Rights Of The Global Warming
My argument is that those who have taken part in causing global warming, which are the developed
countries, should be held responsible by cutting back more than other countries to correct the
injustice that they have inflicted on the poorer countries. These nations are infringing on the rights
of the victimized nations. Therefore, I would argue that there is an ethical basis for deciding
whether some countries should cut back emissions more than others because the situation is not
only unfair, but also violates the rights of innocent people. Everyone has a right to life, a right to
not be harmed, and more specifically, the right not to have one s life taken directly as a means to
further one s end (Finnis). Immanuel Kant thought reason tells us to, Act only on a maxim that you
can will to be a universal law (Kant). Under Kantism views, an ethical act is ethical if it can become
universal law without undermining some sort of construct. If we say that developed countries can
emit greenhouse gases, thus causing harm, without consequence, then it will undermine the
principle that the innocent has the right to not be harmed. Therefore, when that right is violated,
there is an ethical issue. For example, if a burglar steals, it is only fair that they are reprimanded
accordingly by giving back what they stole, plus an additional punishment, to ameliorate the harm
that he caused. To extrapolate this example to global warming, the developed nations are stealing
from the poor

Ethical Considerations For A Crisis Management Plan
In order for a crisis management plan to be carried out, a crisis management team will be needed
to help the person dealing with a crisis situation. A crisis management team is a team of people
that have the knowledge and skills on how to respond and deal with a crisis situation. The crisis
management team may compromise of individuals such as teachers, social workers, police officers,
nurses, paramedics, psychologists, and school principals. School counselors should also be

Also, another ethical consideration for school counselors would be if the student is a danger to
themselves or another student, then it s important to disclose that information along with getting
their parents involved. The legal considerations that must be applied when responding to a
student crisis is that school counselors have a duty to protect students when they re going
through a crisis. Going back to the crisis of a student being a danger to another student, school
counselors have the legal duty to protect that other student as well as reporting to the authorities
(Kanel, 2015). It s important that school counselors know how to collaborate before, during, and
after a crisis. Before a crisis, the school counselor can collaborate with teachers and other school
staff members by training them and coming up with ways on how to help students during a
crisis situation. During a crisis, the school counselor will show other staff members how to
comfort students during their time of need in the crisis situation. After a crisis, the school
counselor will help staff members by showing them how to help students recover from a crisis as
well as providing them resources if they need any more additional help. The way that
collaboration assist in a crisis response is that school counselors and staff members come together
to work as a team help students heal through a crisis situation (Kelley, 2015). As for a post crisis
response, School counselors and staff members must prepare to come up with a plan along with
intervention strategies and resources in order to help students recover successfully from a crisis

Nootropics Research Paper
Poor memory, lack of concentration, and inability to focus have become such common complaints,
they re practically considered normal . Despite the fact that we re living in the 21st century, where

This is why the science of nootropics (brain health supplements) is slowly gaining in popularity.
Any functional foods, nutraceuticals, supplements, or drugs that help improve the function of the
brain are considered nootropics.

Greek gods good, bad, or both? Well, they are bad and good for the Ancient Greek Civilization. I
ll explain two positive and negative effects it had on Ancient Greeks. These effects affect
virtually every aspect of their society. As stated in Historical. The First positive reason it had is
that they could say that the gods did anything they couldn t explain. They said this because the
gods were supposedly in control of every part of daily life. Such as the weather, crops, love,
money, business, earthquakes, phases of the moon, and if a loaf of bread burned in the oven.
As stated in Document two. That seems like a crazy thing to see that people used to do but that
is our history That was one of their most positive reasons to believe in the gods. You had
someone to blame for everything and there was many of them so you could say it was any of
them. That s the first positive effect it had on the Ancient Greeks. The second positive (and
negative) reason is where they used to live Its a positive effect effects because the view was
spectacular. They lived on Thera which is one of the most picturesque islands of Greece. As stated
in Document three. Picturesque means a delightful, striking, or quaint view. Thera was on a sunken

Company Culture Influences Behavior Within A Company
Businesses do not exist in a vacuum. It is hard to even imagine one that is completely isolated from
external input. In fact, they are constantly subjected to influence from both the outside and the
inside. In open systems, a relationship exists between a business and its surroundings in which
awareness of that constant input and output is vital. In order for a startup companylike Everyday

Using the example of dessert delivery service, Everyday Indulgence, setting the tone within the
startup business is especially important early on, when there are only a few employees. A wide
variety of tasks will be shouldered by a small team of people and there is bound to be a significant
learning curve. Hiring individuals with values that are aligned with the company s is a good start
and continuous training with an ever present owner/manager will further develop employee
confidence and expertise. Mentoring and training employees leads to a desirable output in the form
of both product and service, while poorly trained staff produce the opposite. Communication,
written, verbal, and in the form of daily staff meetings will foster an atmosphere of teamwork,
support, and comradery, whereas lack of communication on such a small team will lead to
disorganization and a disconnected feeling among team members. The success or failure of startup
companies like Everyday Indulgence is greatly impacted by its internal environment.

task/competitive environments, refers to all outside forces that affect said organization. Some

in several ways, meaning Germanic , medieval, not classical , barbarous and also an
architectural style that was not Greek or Roman. Horace Walpole applied the word Gothic to his
novel The Castle of Otranto, a Gothic Story (1765) in the sense medieval, not classical . From
this novel filled with scenes of terror and gloom in a medieval setting descended a literary genre
still popular today; from its subtitle descended the name for it ( 115).
The Gothic evokes feelings of mystery, leading simultaneously to the dramatic as well as the
sensational, such as incest.
Furthermore, the sublime is considered the most prominent characteristic of the Gothic. There are
certain general features applied to create the necessary atmosphere, and by which a narration might
be identified as a Gothic story (Hume 282). What is actually the sublime and how it is related to
the gothic fiction? A main... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The ruined buildings, being sinister, arouse a pleasing melancholy while underground passages,
spooky basements and dark corridors are very common in gothic stories. Furthermore shadows,
moonlight and flickering candles strengthen the mysterious and gloomy atmosphere the Gothic
novel aims to convey. The functions of all there mentioned are highlighted by the extreme weather
and its thunders, which reinforce the mystery, the dramatic and the sensational. The Gothic
atmosphere is frequently transmitted through castles or mansions and through raging storms, dark
nights, tyranny, incarceration, and torture (Morris

Essay Government Funding of Stem Cell Research
In the 2004 presidential election, one of the most controversial issues facing voters was the battle
over embryonic stem cell research. In the weeks leading up to the election, polls were indicating
that 47 percent of Bush supporters agreed that the destruction of embryo cells is unethical;
however, 53 percent of Bush voters supported stem cellresearch. The overwhelming majority of
Kerry backers also supported stem cellresearch, indicating that the majority of American voters
support stem cell research. Embryonic stem cellresearch, while still in its infancy, has the potential
to treat or perhaps even cure more than 100 million people suffering from a variety of illnesses and
conditions. Scientists agree that stem cells could be one... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In an October 25, 2004 Newsweek article, researcher Dr. Susan Fisher states, the infusion of
private money is indispensable, but it will never fill the gaps in funding created by federal
restrictions. In the same Newsweek article, Nobel Prize winner Dr. Peter Agre argues, relying
on private money is like saying we could open the public schools from 10 to 10:15, but you are
welcome to send your kids to private school. History tells us that there are positive advantages to
the government s involvement in treating human diseases. Federal funding hastened the
development of polio vaccine as well as many other vaccines to prevent communicable diseases.
An editorial for the Life Sciences Institute written by Richard Lempert and Jack Dixon in 2001
states, what is clear is the fact that without federal funding the progress of understanding the
properties of stem cells will be much slower. Given the current public opinion surveys on the
subject of stem cell research, one may argue that many citizens feel there is a need to accelerate
progress rather than impede it.
Many scientists believe that federal funding is also critical to ensure the oversight that will be
necessary for expanding stem cell research. There are those who believe that the possibility of
abuse and public safety concerns are real and vastly understated in

Religion As A Strong Value For The Early Greek Society Essay
Religion was a strong value for the early Greek society. The Greeks looked up to the Gods and
worshipped them by praying, building temples, making sacrifices, staying faithful to their
religion, etc. Indeed, the Gods were praised but they were also respected. If a mortal committed
hubris against them then they would be struck down. Often, Greeks would ask for favors from
their Gods. This means that the relationship between the Greeks and their Deities would be one of
give and take. We see this relationship in Homer s works, particularly The Iliad. For example, a
priest of Apollo, Chryse, claims that if Apollo has ever been pleased by Chryse s acts of
worship then the God should strike down the Danaans in return (Iliad.1.36 42). This shows the
reader that if a member of Greek society went out of their way to please the Gods, they believed
they were able to request favors from the Gods. In Greek society, only the Gods possess the gift
of immortality while the mortals believed their souls were doomed to the underworld. However,
there were ways that a mortal could achieve other forms of immortality. The people s concept of
immortality was not to live forever but to be remembered eternally. For example, it was
prophesized that the demigod Achilleus would gain immortal glory if he stays in Troy. Yet, if he
does stay in the war he will also die there. On the other hand, he is told that if he goes home to
Greece he will live a long life without glory. Faced with this decision,

Magic Law
The magic law found in this magical event is consistency. The logical construction of the
secondary world is shown through the consistency of the magic s power. Nikolajeva (1988) and
Watts (2006) claim it is important to maintain the consistency of the secondary world. In order to
make the story logical and comprehensible, the magic should work as it is instructed.
Excerpt 4.11. ... It was definitely the fire that spoke. Sophie saw its purple mouth move as the
words came. Its voice was nearly as cracked as her own, full of the spitting and whining of
burning wood. ... What are you? A fire demon, answered the purple mouth. There was more
whine than spit to its voice as it said, I m bound to this hearth by contract. I can t move from this
spot. Then its voice became brisk and crackling. And what are you? it asked, I can see you re
under a spell. This roused Sophie from her dreamlike state, You see! she exclaimed. Can you
take the spell off? Sophie. It s a strong spell, it said at length. It feels like one of the Witch of the
Waste s to me. It is, said Sophie. But it seems more than that, crackled the demon. I detect two
layers. And of course you won t be able to tell anyone about it unless they know already. It gazed
at Sophie a moment longer. I shall have to study it, it said. (pp.

Pros And Basics Of BUI
All U.S. states have laws against using alcohol and drugs while operating a boat or any other
watercraft. In addition, the U.S. Coast Guard oversees federal laws against drinking on a boat and
arrests people for boating under the influence, or BUI. Conviction of a BUI crime is a serious
offense, and it can result in jail time, large monetary fines, suspension of boating and driver s
licenses, and increases in auto and boat insurance premiums.
Increases in BUI Arrests Laws against BUI have been enacted across the country, because
operating a boat while intoxicated leads to accidents, deaths, and property damage. The Coast
Guard tracks statistics regarding boating accidents and reported 4,158 accidents and 626 deaths ...

States without formal marine law enforcement orders may also set up BUI checkpoints for
questioning and inspecting boat operators and passengers for intoxication while boating. BUI
checkpoints operate in much the same way as roadside DUI checkpoints, and this type of
enforcement is leading to an increasing number of BUI arrests and convictions. [5].
Basics of BUI Charges The crime of boating under the influence is defined in most states as
operating any form of watercraft on a body of water with a blood alcohol content of .08 percent or
above. A few states define a BUI charge as having a blood alcohol contentof .1 percent or above.
In some states it is an additional crime if there is a minor onboard the boat, especially if the minor
has a blood alcohol level above .01 percent.
Elements of BUI Charges A person can be convicted of a BUI offense when they are operating any
watercraft and are intoxicated to any significant degree by alcohol, drugs, or both.
In most cases, this involves a blood alcohol level of .08 percent or higher for recreational vessels
and .04 percent of higher for commercial vessels.
The crime of BUI applies to all forms of watercraft, including sailboats, speedboats, yachts, fishing
boats, jet skis, and commercial vessels.

  • 2. Weimar Republic Failure There are many historians that believe the Weimar Republic was doomed from the beginning of its existence as a rump state of the once powerful German Empire. Other historians believe the republic is not such a failure as it seems in textbooks and online articles. Both sides unanimously agree that the Weimar Republicwas a failed attempt at bringing democracy to a predominantly monarchical (and tyrannical) Europe. The majority of historians that agree the ill fated Weimar Republic was a smudge on Germanyduring the Interwar Period have a large amount of validities to support that claim. However, these validities also apply to the latter (to a lesser extent) , with one major problem resolved by the republic. One of the claims is that the Weimar Republic was simply too weak to establish itself as a political power in Germany, being contested by left and right wing extremist groups. There were often frequent rebellions in Germany, led by Communists and Marxists. The military at the time was far too outnumbered to quell these rebellions in their own jurisdiction. Another major impediment was the hyperinflation of the currency of that time, the German Mark. After the Great War, Germany was in a state of utter devastation and rebellion. The Kaiser had just fled Germany, and she was now without a leader, essentially cutting head off the snake. The military had also returned in a similar shape. The German economy was in ruins. The Weimar Republic was still responsible for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The idea is to create a significant amount of depth to the appearance of your hair, something that the hair stylist will do after the initial cut is made. Popularity of Medium Length Layered Haircuts One of the primary reasons that this type of haircut is so popular with women is because it s easy to maintain. Women with long hairmay have to spend several hours washing their hair, drying it, and getting it to a state of perfection. Although longer hair might provide a woman with more flair and possibilities, long hair is more difficult to manage, and therefore medium length haircuts can sometimes be preferable. Women that cut their hair short might risk having a less feminine appearance. You need to have the right facial shape in order to sport a shorter hairdo. The typical pixie cut that some women prefer usually looks better with a more rounded face. However, in the end, it really comes down to how much work you want to put into your hair. The medium length layered hairdo, therefore, is a happy medium for those that want to have more style options, yet will have less hair to manage on a daily ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Mass Media and Its Influence Negative Influence on American Society It is the power that shapes and molds the mind of virtually every citizen, young or old, rich or poor, simple or sophisticated (Sweet Liberty, 2000, 1). The media is a part of everyday life in America. News and events outside of one s home or neighborhood are brought to their area via the newspaper, magazines, radio, television, and the internet. Children are easily swayed and influenced by the many images and pictures presented to them through the media. By high school graduation, children will have spent roughly 50 percent more time in front of a television than in front of a teacher (Dudley, 1999, 32). Parents, often times, are too drained or pre occupied with their own lives, leading their children to find comfort in watching television or playing video games which, consequently, become the prime examples for their actions and behaviors. For all too many Americans, the real world has been replaced by the false reality of the TV... (Sweet Liberty, 2000, 2). These children hear the news and watch shows and films where innocent people are being stolen from or being killed, but they have nobody there to teach them the difference between what is real and what is not, what is right and what is wrong. An article printed in Time magazine, titled Suburban Smackdown, is a great example of how the media persuades children to impersonate what they view on television. The article concentrates on the violence of wrestling and how some children and young adults are putting on shows, costumes, masks and all, for their neighbors based on these wrestling characters they see on TV. It is the little details that culminate a theme or feel that makes customers want to shop at a particular store and have a certain type of experience depending on who they are. It is all about making an environment whether a store, a party, a home, etc. as inviting and welcoming as possible. • 9. Ways People Respond To Conflict Essay People respond to conflict in many ways. A few such ways include responding to conflict through lying, deception, and caving in to survive. These are the cases with Diary of Anne Frank. and HItler youth. Lying is one way people deal with conflict. Why wouldn t it be. An example would be from the Diary of Anne Frank. The Diary is in the point of view of a young girl and her family hiding from the Nazis. She details her experiences in the annex as well as her thoughts and feelings of herself and others around her. Essentially, Anne and her family lie to the government and neighbors. There have even been many times when the Nazis have lied. They have lied to Jews by telling them they would be taking showers and killed them. Lying seems normal in situations of conflict. People may lie to save themselves or to save others. People may also lie to achieve a sort of goal, whether it be good or bad. It seems to be a very common way of responding to conflict. Deception falls into a similar, if not the same, category of lying. It is a trick or scheme to get what you want. Again the example of this would be when Anne and her family hid in the annex. After the previous regime left the country nearly bankrupt, Mao faced the challenge of rebuilding China s economy, and he believed that it could only be accomplished through true Communism, modeled after the Soviet Union. Still, Chairman Mao was concerned with establishing the country as an international competitor and needed to drastically increase the industrialization of China, which in turn required a massive increase in production from the agricultural industry. Thus, in 1953, Chairman Mao encouraged peasant farmers to begin cooperatively farming in which a few families from the same village pooled together their resources to have a larger operation. China s reinvented production system enabled peasants to produce larger harvests, which allowed these cooperatives to become more diversified operations that could now raise livestock or non grain crops. Because the peasants were able to share their knowledge, tools, machinery, and the workload, this method of farming proved to be highly successful. Unfortunately, this type of production agriculture did not last long. Just a few years later, Chairman Mao began to completely socialize the agricultural system to where it was no longer the people s land but practically the government s entirely. This particular angle is appropriate for this scene because it establishes, right away, that Mr. Bigey is a force to be reckoned with. For example, when someone is knocked out in a fistfight and the first view they see upon awakening is the opponent towering over them, they are more apt to recognize the authority and control considering the view. That is why this angle works. Speaking of view, the next shot that will be discussed gives an entirely different feel, partly because of the view, but it does remain within the definition of a high angle shot. In the reformatory, immediately after exiting the patty wagon, another high angle shot is employed to reveal the reinforced bars on the ceiling giving the audience a ... • 21. Essay on Prion Diseases Prion Diseases Abstract Transmissible spongiform encephalopathies (TSEs) are neurodegenerative diseases that are thought to be caused by the misfolding of prion proteins. Prions are able to replicate in the absence of nucleic acids. TSEs include: scrapie, bovine spongiform encephalopathy, Creutzfeldt Jakob disease, kuru, Gerstmann Straussler Scheinker disease, and Fatal Familial Insomnia. They can affect many different animals, including humans. Currently, there are no ways to diagnose, treat, or cure TSEs, as much more research is needed before these diseases are completely understood. 1. The Prion Protein and Its Function The prion protein (PrP) is unusual in that it has two stable isoforms. The cellular or normal form of the prion protein is termed PrPC, while the disease form is termed PrPSC. Sharing the same sequence of amino acids, or primary structure, PrPC and PrPSC differ in their secondary, tertiary, and quaternary structures. The normal prion protein has N and C terminals, three alpha helices, and two beta sheets (Soto, 2006, 40). Its function is still not completely understood. However, scientists have found evidence that point to various possibilities. 1) Because most PrPC are located in lipid rafts, membrane structures involved in signaling, it is suggested that PrPC may also be a mediator in neuroprotective signaling pathways. 2) Interaction between PrPC and Bcl 2, a ligand involved in protecting neurons from apoptosis, suggests the possibility that PrPC may be an antiapoptotic protein. 3) PrPC has also been linked to copper metabolism in the brain. In one particular study, PrP knockout mice, or mice that were genetically altered to not express PrP, were found to have lower levels of copper in their brains and higher levels in their serum (Soto, 2006, 42). However, in other studies with PrP knockout mice, most of the animals did not display any obvious disorders, and those that did were found to have been affected by the increase in concentration of another protein known as doppel. ... Inventions And Inventions Of The United States Imagine a time when the only way to get around was by riding a horse, or a time when the only way to get in contact with someone was sending a letter, or a time when the only way to dig a hole was using a shovel, during the mid 19th century young innovators, Alfred Nobel, Samuel Morse, and Thomas Edison developed machines that made doing all that easier. Inventions and innovations like dynamite, the railroads, and the telegraph helped the United Stateseconomy grow. Scientist developed, a railroad that connected New York City to San Francisco, a telegraph that could send messages across long distances within minutes, and dynamite which could blow up anything along its path. The United States had a small, weak, economy, until the mid 1800s when inventions and innovations united and strengthened the economy. From the beginning of time, people have invented things and innovated to help expand their economy. Gunpowder, the printing press, language, the wheel, pottery, post offices, and man made bridges are all examples of inventions that led to economic growth. In 1800 prior to railroads, the only practical way to travel and trade across long distances was along the nation s natural waterways (Metzner 1). • 24. The Rights Of The Global Warming My argument is that those who have taken part in causing global warming, which are the developed countries, should be held responsible by cutting back more than other countries to correct the injustice that they have inflicted on the poorer countries. These nations are infringing on the rights of the victimized nations. Therefore, I would argue that there is an ethical basis for deciding whether some countries should cut back emissions more than others because the situation is not only unfair, but also violates the rights of innocent people. Everyone has a right to life, a right to not be harmed, and more specifically, the right not to have one s life taken directly as a means to further one s end (Finnis). Immanuel Kant thought reason tells us to, Act only on a maxim that you can will to be a universal law (Kant). Under Kantism views, an ethical act is ethical if it can become universal law without undermining some sort of construct. If we say that developed countries can emit greenhouse gases, thus causing harm, without consequence, then it will undermine the principle that the innocent has the right to not be harmed. Therefore, when that right is violated, there is an ethical issue. For example, if a burglar steals, it is only fair that they are reprimanded accordingly by giving back what they stole, plus an additional punishment, to ameliorate the harm that he caused. To extrapolate this example to global warming, the developed nations are stealing from the poor ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Going back to the crisis of a student being a danger to another student, school counselors have the legal duty to protect that other student as well as reporting to the authorities (Kanel, 2015). It s important that school counselors know how to collaborate before, during, and after a crisis. The word Gothic, first recorded in 1611 in a reference of the language of the Goths, was extended in sense in several ways, meaning Germanic , medieval, not classical , barbarous and also an architectural style that was not Greek or Roman. Horace Walpole applied the word Gothic to his novel The Castle of Otranto, a Gothic Story (1765) in the sense medieval, not classical . From this novel filled with scenes of terror and gloom in a medieval setting descended a literary genre still popular today; from its subtitle descended the name for it ( 115). The Gothic evokes feelings of mystery, leading simultaneously to the dramatic as well as the sensational, such as incest. Furthermore, the sublime is considered the most prominent characteristic of the Gothic. There are certain general features applied to create the necessary atmosphere, and by which a narration might be identified as a Gothic story (Hume 282). • 40. Essay Government Funding of Stem Cell Research In the 2004 presidential election, one of the most controversial issues facing voters was the battle over embryonic stem cell research. In the weeks leading up to the election, polls were indicating that 47 percent of Bush supporters agreed that the destruction of embryo cells is unethical; however, 53 percent of Bush voters supported stem cellresearch. The overwhelming majority of Kerry backers also supported stem cellresearch, indicating that the majority of American voters support stem cell research. In an October 25, 2004 Newsweek article, researcher Dr. Susan Fisher states, the infusion of private money is indispensable, but it will never fill the gaps in funding created by federal restrictions. In the same Newsweek article, Nobel Prize winner Dr. Peter Agre argues, relying on private money is like saying we could open the public schools from 10 to 10:15, but you are welcome to send your kids to private school. History tells us that there are positive advantages to the government s involvement in treating human diseases. Federal funding hastened the development of polio vaccine as well as many other vaccines to prevent communicable diseases. An editorial for the Life Sciences Institute written by Richard Lempert and Jack Dixon in 2001 states, what is clear is the fact that without federal funding the progress of understanding the properties of stem cells will be much slower. Given the current public opinion surveys on the subject of stem cell research, one may argue that many citizens feel there is a need to accelerate progress rather than impede it. Many scientists believe that federal funding is also critical to ensure the oversight that will be necessary for expanding stem cell research. There are those who believe that the possibility of abuse and public safety concerns are real and vastly understated in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Religion As A Strong Value For The Early Greek Society Essay Religion was a strong value for the early Greek society. The Greeks looked up to the Gods and worshipped them by praying, building temples, making sacrifices, staying faithful to their religion, etc. Indeed, the Gods were praised but they were also respected. If a mortal committed hubris against them then they would be struck down. Often, Greeks would ask for favors from their Gods. This means that the relationship between the Greeks and their Deities would be one of give and take. We see this relationship in Homer s works, particularly The Iliad. For example, a priest of Apollo, Chryse, claims that if Apollo has ever been pleased by Chryse s acts of worship then the God should strike down the Danaans in return (Iliad.1.36 42). This shows the reader that if a member of Greek society went out of their way to please the Gods, they believed they were able to request favors from the Gods. In Greek society, only the Gods possess the gift of immortality while the mortals believed their souls were doomed to the underworld. However, there were ways that a mortal could achieve other forms of immortality. The people s concept of immortality was not to live forever but to be remembered eternally. For example, it was prophesized that the demigod Achilleus would gain immortal glory if he stays in Troy. Yet, if he does stay in the war he will also die there. On the other hand, he is told that if he goes home to Greece he will live a long life without glory. Faced with this decision, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
