Overture Beethoven
This overture is perhaps of the most hard work written by Beethoven. It s hard not just to listen, but
also to play. The first time you listen Fidelio might be a little bit confused and bored; however, after
two or three times, you start to understand how complex and delicate this overture is. Every time I
listen to Fidelio I notice something new, and how can I not listen to something new in a story of
personal sacrifice, heroism and triumph?! Perhaps Beethoven wrote it in a way to make the listener
image different stories told by different people every time they listen. Sir Colin Davis did an excellent
job ahead of his orchestra. They were able to reflect on their instruments every emotion hidden
between the notes. A good orchestra plays

Air Pollution and Global Warming
Air Pollution and Global Warming

Air pollution causes global warming through the greenhouse effect, according to the United States
Environmental Protection Agency. The greenhouse effect occurs when greenhouse gases trap and heat
energy from the sun and prevent it from escaping Earth s atmosphere and entering space. (EPA, 2012)
Atmospheric pollutions are caused by gasses and solid particulates released into the atmosphere. The
most hazard atmospheric pollutions are man made by the production of products. Pollutants are
released into the air include carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxides, hydrocarbons and sulfur dioxide.

Animals commonly fall victim to acid rain which is created by sulfur in the air caused by the burning
of coal. Sulfur is conducted in vesicles of rain poisoning streams, drinking water supplies, soil, and
injuring wildlife.
Transportation modes, industrialization and power plants are also major sources of air pollutants from
human activities. Furthermore, natural causes contribute to air pollution. For example, volcanic
eruptions release large amounts of gases and particulate matter in the air, storms producing pollen
grains, and methane gas from marshes.
The US contains 4% of the world s population but produces about 25% of all carbon dioxide
emissions. By comparison, Britain emits 3% about the same as India, which has 15 times as many
people. (BBC, 2009) We, as Americans, must have strategies and solutions for reducing and
eliminating pollution and in turn global warming begin on an individual level. Each person must first
be responsible for his or her own action. For example, disposing of household chemicals properly,
recycling and living as energy as efficiently as possible are effective ways for individuals to reduce
pollution. Also, people should hold the federal government and local state governments accountable
for monitoring and mandating industrial company s actions. For example, the EPA is responsible for
constituting unassailable and equalizes clean air levels. In 1967, Congress passed the Air Quality Act
that set forth outlines for air

Second, financial managers use economic principles to guide them in making financial decisions that
are in the best interest of the firm. In other words, finance is an applied area of economics that relies
on accounting for input. 2. List and describe the three career opportunities in the field of finance.
Finance has three main career paths: financial management, financial markets and institutions, and
investments. Financial management involves managing the finances of a business. Financial managers
people who manage a business firm s finances perform a number of tasks. They analyze and forecast a
firm s finances; assess risk, evaluate investment opportunities, decide when and where to find money
sources and how much money to raise, and decide how much money to return to the firm s investors.
Bankers, stockbrokers, and others who work in financial markets and institutions focus on the flow of
money through financial institutions and the markets in which financial assets are exchanged. They
track the impact of interest rates on the flow of that money. People who work in the field of
investments locate, select, and manage income producing assets. For instance, security analysts and
mutual fund managers both operate in the investment field. 3. Describe the duties of the financial
manager in a business firm. Financial managers measure the firm s performance,

Reflection OnKnowing Others Is Wisdom, Mastering Yourself...
I would like to begin with the quote Knowing others is wisdom, mastering yourself is Enlightenment .
In this course I have discovered more about myself all through the class formally as well as
informally. To my surprise few of the Management skills I was performing in my day to day life in a
corporate environment without knowing it. And then there are some brand new skills I have learnt in
the class such as Tuckman s team model, Drexler/Sibbet team performance model. At first I was
thinking I am a helper (Type 2 enneagram) but to my amazement I found out that I am Achiever (Type
3 enneagram). As type 3 personalities are extroverts I did not find difficulty in any stages of Tuckman
s team model . All the process of forming, storming, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

basis. And being only son they don t have any other choice also. From then onwards every day I
started calling them even before their message. This will be The Best lesson I learnt informally for my
life. When it comes to team work I used the Drexler/Sibbet team performance model extensively. In
our creativity and innovation class we will be having multiple assignments for the week, so I went by
each step of the model starting with Orientation of team by meeting in library and brainstorm the ideas
for the assignments and provide all necessary inputs and hands over the responsibility to one of the
team member so that the particular member feels that we all are trusting him solely and also gives the
100% commitment without any external factors. Which is good for the team to achieve the high
performance. Not all the brainstorming session ends smoothly, because we cannot incorporate all the
ideas. So when it comes to dealing with the conflict situations to convince the team without hurting
anyone, I learned Thomas Kilmann conflict mode Instrument (TKI) when to compromise and when to

Essay on The Sixties, by Terry H. Anderson
The Sixties, by Terry H. Anderson, takes the reader on a journey through one of the most turbulent
decades in American life. Beginning with the crew cut conformity of 1950s Cold War culture and
ending with the transition into the uneasy 70s, Anderson notes the rise of an idealistic generation of
baby boomers, widespread social activism, and revolutionary counterculture. Anderson explores the
rapidly shifting mood of the country with the optimism during the Kennedy years, the liberal advances
of Johnson s Great Society, and the growing conflict over Vietnam that nearly tore America apart. The
book also navigates through different themes regarding the decade s different currents of social
change; including the anti war movement, the civil ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This thematic standpoint in return provides ground for a second major theme; the 1960s was home to
the birth of civil rights movements and forever changed the American idea of the status quo. To a large
extent, it is agreeable that that the 1960s serves as the era that led to activism in the US. Anderson is
able to confirm and strengthen his standpoint by the fact that it was during one of the greatest
milestones of the 1960s, the Vietnam War, that for the first time in the history of the US, the
government was subjected to criticism and attacks against their ways . This can be evidenced by the
fact that Americans, which were majority college students, took to the streets to protest government
action. At the time, the policies and actions put forth by the government were seen to be very secretive
and wrong. Citizens were hastily informed about the need to stop the spread of communism at the
expense of capitalism. Not only were government policies seen as corrupt, the government had kept
the American society in the dark concerning the actual situation in Vietnam. There seemed to be no
cost that was worth retreating from Vietnam. Draft calls were constantly increasing and the war itself
began to result in federal expenditures, deficits, and inflationary pressures ( Anderson 90). For some
Americans, the war not only damaging, but unfair. Mexican Americans were the poorest and

Psychodynamic Approach Analysis
Jones and Butman (2012) in chapter four point out that contemporary psychodynamic approaches,
although they originate from Freud s view of personality development, psychodynamic view are less
biological and mechanistic. Psychodynamic approaches focuses more on individuals cognitive and
interpersonal process. Jones and Butman argue that psychodynamic approaches are divided into three
views: ego Psychology, object relations and self psychology. These theories propose that caregivers or
parents should foster both independence, and protection and nurturance so as to deter personality
disturbances. The ego psychology model argues that personality development occurs across the life
span. The theory suggests that the ego strives for adaptability,

Long-Term Consequences of Childhood Exposure to Domestic...
Long Term Consequences of Childhood Exposure to Domestic Violence
Abstract:
Domestic violence effects everybody in a family. Patterns of abuse from one parent to another,
between both parents or directed toward a child all have a composite effect of inflicting potentially
severe emotional damage upon the child. The research outlined here identifies domestic violence as a
serious sociological problem and consequently provides a usable definition of domestic violence for
the present study. This is followed by a discussion on the various psychological consequences of
exposure to domestic violence for a developing child. This includes acknowledgement of the manner
in which this exposure may damage the ability to formulate healthy social relationships later in life as
well as a greater proclivity toward behavior problems, learning difficulties, substance abuse and a
learned pattern of violent tendencies.
Outline:
Introduction:
Problem Identification: Domestic violence is a widespread sociological problem wherein women and
children are most often the victims. The problem is compounded by the fact that so much domestic
violence goes under reported
Support: According to an article by Hannah (1998), sparse data exists on the number of domestic
violence cases that arrive in the criminal justice system and what happens to them once they get there.
(44) The federal government and a majority of the states collect statistics on domestic violence, but
there are wide variations in

International Classification of Accounting Systems
Classification of Accounting Systems
Critically evaluate to what extent past research into classification of accounting systems has become
irrelevant because of international harmonization efforts.
Let us remind that IASC was replaced in 2001 by IASB (International Accounting Standards Board).
We are going to start this paper with the different classification researches, taking for example
Hofstede and Gray s studies. Then we will draw the main differences between GAAP (Generally
Accepted Accounting Principles) and IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards). We will
also speak about the Americanocentrism problem. To finally dealing with the differences and
harmonization. *Two Main Example*s* of Past Studies*: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Decisions are much easier to take. However, the experience of convergence IASB/FASB shows that
many years are necessary to ensure the convergence of two reference frames however based on the
same Anglo Saxon culture of the businesses. This is due primarily to an existence of an opposition
between an approach by the rules in the case of FASB and an approach by the principles which
follows IASB. IASB is at the center of the convergence movement. The IFRS are described like
founded on principles, which means that they leave a big freedom of action to the companies about the
evaluation of the accounting data. The US GAAP are described like founded on rules and they aim to
regulate all the possible aspects of the presentation of the accounts. These standards thus require very
detailed information on behalf of the companies. In the case of convergence between IASB and FASB,
the harmonization of the IFRS and US GAAP is currently working and common solutions have
already been found. That do not prevent from the divergence of several points of view, among the
principal aspects to be solved one we think about the financial instruments and the presentation of the
performances. Some of the differences between US GAAP and IFRS are embodied in the standards
themselves. They are intentional deviations from US requirements. Americanocentrism Some
countries adopted some international standards

Examples Of Nihilism In Macbeth
A Look at Nihilism in Madame Bovary and Macbeth
Nihilism
Nihilism which comes from the Latin word, Nihil means nothing, to destroy completely, as seen in it
being the base of the annihilation. Nihilism is the idea that all beliefs and ideals are without
foundation and that nothing can truly be identified or known. Every belief, every considering
something true, is necessarily false because there is simply no true world (Nietzsche). Nihilism tends
to be related to skepticism and pessimism by many people. A person who was truly a Nihilist would
have no desire or belief and anything, they would probably be led by a compulsion to destroy.
Nihilism is often associate with the Philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche. Nietzsche contended that

now all he has is a quiet house and he is chained to a woman he does not love. The idea of marrying
someone you do not love is nihilistic. Ethan seems not to care about how any of his actions affect
Zeena. He spends that first bit of the novel being miserable and gloomy about his situation, but yet he
does nothing to change it. Instead he allows Zeena to control him, There had never been anything in
her that one could appeal to; but as long as he could ignore and command he had remained indifferent.
Now she had mastered him and he abhorred her (Wharton, et.al, 2009). Instead he is stuck wallowing
in past failures until he meets his wife s cousin Mattie and finds himself having an affair with Mattie
in an attempt to obtain the sense of love and passion that his marriage lacks. Ethan hates liars and
purposely hurting people but he has no compunction about hurting Zeena because he does not seem to
see her as a person, Zeena herself, from an oppressive reality, had faded into an insubstantial shade.
All his life was lived in the sight and sound of Mattie Silver, and he could no longer conceive of its
being otherwise (Wharton, et. Al, 2009). This leads to tragic consequences when Ethan and Maggie
attempt to commit suicide together. This causes Ethan to walk with a limp and Mattie to become bed
ridden and dependent on Zeena. Ethan Frome deals with both Existential Nihilism, which I mentioned
before in regards to how Ethan seems to view Zeena as a non entity and Ethical Nihilism. Ethan is
having an emotional affair with Zeena s cousin, which he has convinced himself is fine because Zeena
is dying. Then he and Mattie decide that the only way they can be together is to commit suicide, with

The Historical Visit of President Nixon to China Essay
As I understand the historical connection between China and United States, they were and in some
sense still are both rivals, which began with Mao Zedong driving American supported Chang out of
China soon after the unconditional surrender of the defeat of aggressive Imperial Japan in 1945. Mao
took over China and forced Chang to beat a hasty retreat to Taiwan Island. Then in l950, the world
witnessed the fierce armed confrontation between Mao led China versus the United Nations forces
with the full backing of United States during the three year Korean War which eventually became a
stalemate to this day. Then there was another world shattering war between U.S. and Communist

(MacMillan, 290) Since the Soviets was not in good relations with China Soviets were irritated that
this impossible meeting took place to improve the Sino American relationship. The U.S. and China

Rock N Roll Research Paper
Rock n roll is constantly changing and evolving into specific sub genres. Sub genres break down a
general genre of music into a more specific and sophisticated type of that category. For example, rock
has many different branches including soft rock, southern rock, and hard rock. Rock in general
typically has a lead electric guitar with a vigorous 4/4 beat produced by the drums. However, in the
sub genre of southern rock, a southern country rhythm is combined with a touch of rock and roll. Hard
rock separates itself by sustaining a loud, powerful, voluminous sound, whereas soft rock maintains a
slower and smoother rhythm while still possessing the rock tone. Each sub genre contributes their own
uniqueness while also preserving rock characteristics ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This sub genre originated in the southern United States from the inclusive rock genre. Southern rock
has a very strong lead beat that focuses mainly on vocals and the electric guitar. Just like country
music, southern rock tells a story and that is what makes the lyrics and vocals so important. Southern
rock is a lot like country music as a whole, but separates itself by being louder, adding a heavier beat,
and speeding up the song. Southern rock maintains a rock aspect by its amplified electric guitar lead
and continues to carry a solid beat. Southern rock started to develop in the mid 1960 s and began to hit
its peak in the 1970 s. The Allman Brothers, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Outlaws, The Marshall Tucker Band,
and ZZ Top were a few of the great early bands in southern rock. Southern rock is still a popular genre
including Kid Rock, Shakey Graves, Drive By Tuckers, and Blackberry Smoke. Atlanta Rhythm
Section, a very popular southern rock band, is known for one of their most popular songs, Homesick,
released in 1981. This song is categorized as southern rock due to its hard driven beat and the lead
electric guitar feature. This song begins with an electric solo that supports the classification of rock,
but then begins to add riffs to compliment the electric guitar solo with a touch of the south.
Throughout the song, the lyrics contribute to the anthem s southern side by

Filariasis has no clear vaccine. Thus, the best way to eradicate the disease is by eliminating
microfilaria from the infected individuals, which therefore will interrupt the process of transmitting
the infection by the mosquito. Administration of diethylcarbamazine concurrently with albendazole or
invermectin (DEC) is proven to eliminate 99% of microfilaria from the infected individual. Albeit
advance treatment of this disease is currently available, vigorous action should be taken by the
communities and the respective agencies to abolish all potential breeding sites for mosquitoes.
WHO classify this disease a disease of the poor, due to its pervasiveness to occur in remote rural
areas. Thus, if I were to construct two premises on filariasis, I would say; first, to have a filariasis is to
live in poverty. Second, people are infected by filariasis. And therefore, I would conclude that those
who are infected by filariasis are most likely to live in poverty. As has been stated by the WHO, the
fight to eliminate filariasis is also a fight against poverty .
Malaria is another example of vector borne infectious disease that uses mosquitos as vectors and
would infects the blood. Malaria remains a big problem in many sub tropical and tropical countries.
The United States is considered Malaria free since it has been eradicated in this country since early
1950 s. However, over 1300 cases of malaria, including 8 deaths were reported in 2002.

Lung cancer is considered to be the leading cause of cancer death worldwide. There are approximately

Despite of its number, it is the most preventable of all the cancers. Like every cancer it spreads out
fast if not taken seriously, this due the abnormal growth of cells. The abnormal cell growth often leads
to the formation of tumor. This cancer is very common and very deadly. The following common

Most lung cancers start in the epithelial lining of the bronchi, and occasionally in the trachea,
bronchioles, or alveoli. All forms of lung cancer, being derived from epithelial cells, are carcinomas.
(Panno, 2005) The spread of lung cancer takes time but could spread fast if not alerted, this depends
on the patient s immune system. The decay can lead to more harmful situation; it can spread quickly to
the bone and brain. The lung is close to the heart where it could potential affect the blood flow. This
affects the person ability to exchange carbon dioxide and oxygen during breathing process. The
treatment for lung cancer may involve chemotherapy therapy, radiation therapy, and surgical removal
of the cancer as the last resort. Sometime patient has to go thru a combination of the treatments due to
its location and severity. Deciding the best medication that works well depends on the person s
situation and other health issues. The surgical process usually performed at its earliest stage. This
works well on slow growing cancer and the chances of survival is the best. Sometimes this procedure
does not work, where integrated with chemotherapy and/or radiation therapy is needed. (West, 2011)
Another process would be the radiation treatment usually used as preventative measure to slow the
growth process and brachytherapy is commonly used. Most of the time 70% patient resort to this

The Theories Of New Criticism
During the early part of the 20th century, the formalist theories of New Criticism arose as the
preeminent approach to teaching literature in college and high school curricula. Centered on the idea
that there is a single, fixed meaning inherent in a literary work, New Criticism is text centered with no
consideration given to the author or the reader. The text exists in and of itself, and New Critics
advocate methodical and systematic reading, focusing on the structure of the text to define its meaning
(Definition, n.d.). Louise Rosenblatt s groundbreaking work in Literature as Exploration (1938/1995)
and later refinement of her original thesis in The Reader, the Text, the Poem (1978), rejects the idea of
this single, fixed meaning inherent in the text. It is her theory that the individual creates meaning
through a transaction with the text based on personal associations, thus lifting the reader to a
prominent, essential position along with the author and the text (Mora Welch, 2014). Known as
transactional or reader response theory, Rosenblatt viewed the reader as transacting with a text to
create what she called the poem; the meaning that emerges from the transaction at a given time. In
Literature as Exploration (1938/1995), she argues that the same personal, social, and cultural factors
that affect how a person perceived the world will inevitably affect the equation represented by book
plus reader (p. 79). The text, however, is simply a: stimulus activating

How The Blood Type Of Blood
Abstract During this lab, students will learn how to perform a process as if it was a real blood test.
Working with four different synthetic blood samples, they will use synthetic antisera to the A, B, and
Rh antigens on red blood cells. Students are able to identify the blood type of each blood sample and
how the blood type is determined.
Introduction The blood is a very important fluid of our body that has many different ways that keep us
healthy. It transports important nutrients and oxygen to our cells and acts in the process of removing
wastes and carbon dioxide from the body.( American Society of Hematology . n.d.) Also, this
specialized fluid helps in defending the body by forming blood clots as a result of a wounded blood
vessel and carrying various cells that are crucial to our health. An average human body s weight is
made of seven to eight percent blood.( American Society of Hematology . n.d.) The blood is made of
different components that perform different actions. It is made of 55 percent plasma and 45 percent
cells. ( American Society of Hematology . n.d.) The blood is liquidy due to the presence of plasma. It
is composed of water, proteins, fats, and salts. The plasma is crucial in transporting the blood cells and

notorious substance? Cannabis, like many other psychoactive drugs, has been a prominent thorn in
society s side since the start of the twentieth century and perhaps even from before. Should we
continue to view it as we have, or do we take recent discoveries into account and turn over a new leaf?
According to current statistics, cannabis is the most widely used illegal drug in the UK. Interestingly,
however, cannabis is not a plant native to the British Isles. It has been theorised that the plant,
stemming from Continental Europe, was introduced towards the end of the Roman Occupation. Yet,
little is known about its early uses. Surviving ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hemp produced more durable fibres than stinging nettles or flax, and made it ideal for use in ropes,
nets, and canvas. This feature was all the more supplemented by the method of cultivation. If hemp
was sown close together, the individual plants needed to compete with each other for light. As such,
they would be forced to grow taller than their competition, resulting in long stems high in cellulose.
As England s navy grew, so too did the demand for hemp. In 1533, King Henry VIII compelled
landlords to set aside 1/240th of their tillable land to the growing of hemp; thereby ensuring an
adequate supply of fibre. Elizabeth I increased the production yet again, and even went as far as to
impose a fine of £5 (around $2000 USD) on any eligible landlord who refused to grow it.
Eventually, however, the demand had increased to the extent that the British Isles were no longer able
to supply an adequate volume of hemp. Indeed, this was one of the main forces behind the British
drive to colonize new lands. Its hardiness and ease of cultivation made it ideal for growth in the
colonies. Moreover, the ships that transported supplies and protected these colonies also increased the
demand. After countless months of travel these ships would need repair. On average, each ship would
have had its two hundred tonnes of rigging and sailcloth replaced every two

Questions and Answers on the Foundations of Singing
1. How does the speaking voice influence the singing voice?
I cannot tell you the number of times that I have had vocal teachers tell me that they cannot believe
how high I can sing after hearing my speaking voice. Many vocal professionals tell me that I must be
an alto and I have had many vocal issues. I have been told it is because teachers are pushing my voice
to high and the opposite that it is because I speak too low. I blame it on being a very unhealthy human
being. Research has shown a correlation between the speaking and singing voices (Phillips, 236). Poor
speaking habits can lead to poor singing habits, which can lead to vocal problems. Many cases of
vocal nodules have been reported in children as a result of poor speaking habits. Singing and speaking
have similar physiology, which can make it difficult for students that have a poor speaking voice to
then go onto having a good singing voice. The speaking voice is learned young in students and often
times music teachers do not have any control over it. When the students reach our classrooms it is our
job to almost reteach students how to speak so that they can sing properly. Otherwise, many of the
students will develop problems that they will work on fixing for the rest of their lives. I am still
working on posture and how not to bring muscle into my singing voice, since I use muscle in my
speaking voice.
3. How do the vocal folds work, and what muscles produce pitch in the singing voice? The vocal

Comparing the Attitudes Towards Love and Relationships in...
Comparing the Attitudes Towards Love and Relationships in The Beggar Woman by William King and
To His Coy Mistress by Andrew Marvell
In this essay I will be comparing two poems, The Beggar Woman and To His Coy Mistress. I will be
looking at how the themes of love and relationships are dealt with. I will also be looking at the
historical context of the poems.
Firstly in The Beggar Woman, written around 1663 to 1712, by William King. The story within the
poem is about a gentleman who, whilst he is out hunting, wants to do another kind of sport , i.e.
looking for a woman to have sex with. He found a woman who was a beggar. He asked her if she
wanted to have sex in the woods, and, to his delight, she ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A gentleman in hunting rode astray,
More out of choice than that he lost his way:
He let his company the hare pursue,
For he himself had other game in view:
This quote shows that he was chasing a woman and that he is not looking for anything more than sex.
He just wants a bit of fun like any sport would give him.
When reading the poems they create images of what is happening are created. In The Beggar Woman,
William King does not use any similes or metaphors. I think this is because he needs to keep things
simple for his audience. When he wrote it, he relied on his descriptive words to create a mental picture
for the reader. For example, mounts the infant with a gentle toss upon her generous friend, and like a
cross, the sheet she with a dextrous motion winds and her cheeks were fresh and linen clean. When
reading this line, you can imagine her cheeks; they are smooth, rosy, red, beaming cheeks. Both these
quotes make you see an image created by his cleverly written words.
In To His Coy Mistress, Andrew Marvell does use metaphors and similes because he thinks the
audience expects them as they are upper class. Some examples of the imagery created by metaphors
and similes are vegetable love, which is a metaphor; times winged chariot and his slow chapped power
, which are personification; like morning dew and like

The Great Pyramid Of Giza
Giza, an area located southwest of what is now known as Cairo, is home to one of the most
astonishing and mysterious feats of architecture ever assembled, The Great Pyramid. Located
approximately 5 miles west of the Nile River near the city of Cairo, Egypt, The Great Pyramid is part
of a larger complex called the Giza Necropolis, which also houses the Great Sphinx, and two smaller
pyramids. It is said to have been built by the enslaved citizens of Khufu, second ruler of the 4th
dynasty, and son of Snefru. Although archaeologists have since disproved that theory. The pyramids
are said to have been built to house the deceased bodies of the pharaohs after they have transitioned
into the after life. However, there is no evidence of this being the case. There are many questions
surrounding the Pyramids of Giza, some of which, might not ever be answered. Subsequently,
archaeologists, engineers, scientists and Egyptologists have been able to provide some very logical
theories to try and answer these questions.
Built between 2589 BC and 2504 BC for pharaohs Khufu, Khafre, and Menkaure, the Pyramids of
Giza are the only ones of the original structures of the Seven Wonders of the World that still stand.
There were eight major feats of engineering involved in the construction of the pyramid. First, the
builders had to level the foundation and cut a 6,000 hectare bedrock to fit the strangely shaped slabs of
stone. Each stone at the foundation of the pyramid totaled the approximate

Causes Of The War Of 1812 Essay
The immediate causes of the War of 1812 were a series of economic downs taken by the British and
French against the US as part of the Napoleonic Wars and American outrage at the British practice of
impressment. In response to the 1806 British Orders in Council, which crippled American trade. In
1812, with President Madison in office, Congress declared war against the British. There were many
causes of the war including British attempts to restrict U.S. trade, the Royal Navy s impressment of
American seamen and America s desire to expand its territory. The United States suffered from many
costly defeats from the hands of the British, Canadian and Native American troops over the course of
the War of 1812. Some of which were the capture and burning of the nation s capital, Washington,

Britain moved for an agreement after the failure of the assault on Baltimore. During the negotiations,
the United States gave up its demands to end impressment, while Britain promised to leave Canada s

Ghent was signed British forces were unaware that peach had been finalized and British forces
planned a major attack on New Orleans. They were then met with defeat at the hands of future U.S.

Americans with a taste of victory. Some people remember the war as a relatively minor conflict in the
United States and Britain. It seems a lot larger for Canadians and for Native Americans, they see it as
a decisive turning point in their losing struggle to govern themselves. Most importantly, the war s
outcome boosted national self confidence and encouraged the growing spirit of American

Should we hold back technology to protect the unskilled workforce?
Since the beginning of time, people have made and used tools to make everyday life simpler. The car
was a major breakthrough for transporting people as well as goods and services. The conveyor belt
also helped production rates for manufacturing, allowing the work force to finish goods almost 10
times faster. The workforce benefits with new technology, some may argue that new technology hurts
the workforce. Colleges and universities provided the necessary training for potential employees to be
able to embrace technological changes. Vocational training also provides potential employees with the

Student loans are also difficult to obtain and interest rates are high too. Furthermore, some students
are not encouraged to attend college, based on their family environment and socioeconomic status.
While everyone may not be able to go to college, more people are able to attend than before. Many
high schools offer vocational trainings and programs that allow students to obtain trades and skills,
without even having to go to college, which allows them to be successful in the workplace. Computer
technology is one of the most common advancements in the workplace. Many school systems post
homework on line and require students to regularly use Microsoft Office. It should be mandatory that
high school curriculums teach the latest technologies, so the students are prepared to enter the
workforce, whether or not they attend college. The younger generation also uses cell phones, tablets,
and MP3 players, so their ability to adapt to change happens socially as well. Technology is constantly
changing (Weiss et al 10), so just because someone goes to college and is considered skill, a new
advancement may quickly make them unskilled.
We should not hold back technology from the workforce just because employees are outdated . If we
would have held back making and producing the car, car technology would not be as advanced as it is
today. The conveyer belt helped us in the production of goods. If we didn t have the conveyer belt,

The Life Of Luxury Tourism And The Political Economy...
Gregory explains about the theme of Luxury Tourism and the political economy dominated by those
with power. The purpose of this chapter is to provide discussion on the hiring of the natives in the
Dominican Republic. The thesis of the chapter is to explain how the riff raff are arising from the
problem of the luxury tourism having little contribution to the local economies. The key to the
analysis of Gregory of this situation is his concept of citizenship as a technology of power that
empowers the tourism police to uphold a sort of social hygiene for the benefit of the tourists, who
would rather not to be disturbed or aggravated by the beggars or vendors. This system of exclusion
relies on the cédula (national ID) that one must have with the specific end goal to get formal work, for
example, to sell products in the Zona Playera (Gregory 135). The most valuable of Gregory s
experiences is his thought of the imperial masculinity supporting sex tourism. The scenario is evident
when Gregory observes a gathering of the U.S. Army men who are off duty stationed in the nation; he
is told to watch out for Cuba, being acquainted with a couple of young prostitutes at a bar. Their
connections with the women (grabbing and looking at their bodies, asking their ages, and posing for
photos), Gregory notes, were dramatically performed to impel the aggregate cooperation of the men
(through laughter, catching the eyes of each other, and hollering and whooping and hollering). Their

Confucius And The Chinese Sage

Confucius high emphasis on morality instead of profit was one of his major political ideals that he
tried to persuade the the rulers of the kingdoms to pursue. However, his failure to convince any of
those rulers reflected the prevalent pragmatic political culture at that period. After all, the kingdoms
were at war with each other so that Confucius idea was inevitably less popular than those battle

We learn that a sage recognizes a sage, whereas an ordinary man cannot recognize a sage. The
ordinary man sees nothing but the outer form of a beggar, while the sage has a penetrating eye able to

In ancient East Asian countries, sages were a group of people respected by educated people and
revered by the common illiterate mass. According to the text, the sages were those who with acute

For the ancient dynasties of China and Japan that influenced by Confucianism, sages were often
focusing on developing their thoughts and were not directly involved in politics. Although the
government officials studied Confucianism when they were student, oftentimes they were not

for days, sometimes longer, which then results in the user hallucinating from lack of sleep.
Hallucinating can then cause the user to become aggressive and paranoid because they are hearing and

The Enlightenment And The Enlightenment
The Enlightenment was a change in the hearts and minds of men. It left a significant impact on the
world we know today and gave us great men to remember. The Enlightenment was a intellectual
movement that brought change to the views of Christianity, the importance of reason, the
understanding of nature and humanity, and the equality of man. Those of the later will be the focus of
this paper. Curiosity for understanding the natural world led to new scientific exploration as well as
new discoveries. The philosophical aspects of the period made their way into effecting politics from
its time and on. The Age of Enlightenment began in the early 17th century and officially continued
into the 18th century. The movement at the time held high praise for intellectual developments made
with its roots in reason. This was so much so that the movement was also known as the Age of
Reason. This basis that the world and humanity could be bettered through the application of reason
spread from the influence of Greek philosophy1. Greek philosophy played a role in the development
of Scholasticism, which was the questioning of scholarly Christians trying to solve new philosophical
questions2.

Informative Speech On Clowns Research Paper
The History of Clowns The definition of the word clown states that a clown is a funny entertainer in a
circus who wears different costumes and makeup. The history of clowns isn t a well known thing, and

The first sad clown to come about didn t even intend to be a sad clown. Charles Dickens wrote Joseph
Grimaldi s life story, which is what made people see him as sad. Grimaldi suffered from depression
after his first wife died during the birth of their son. When the son was thirty one years old, he passed
away because of alcoholism. During one of Grimaldi s slapstick routines, he injured and permanently
disabled himself. An infamous quote from Grimaldi says, I am grim all day, but I make you laugh at
night (Nadel). Charles Dickens wrote The Pickwick Papers in 1836 about a sad, alcoholic clown, a.k.a
Grimaldi s son (Little). Another sad clown in the media would include Weary Willie, a clown who
painted on a frown in the twentieth century rather than the traditional grin (Carlyon) A more modern
day famous clown, called Puddles Pity Party, sings songs and posts them on the website YouTube.
Another sad clown named Pierrot came from the Harlequin era. Pierrot s character has a sad, white
painted face and he wears loose clothing along with a small, french hat (Nadel). Even today, sad
clowns exist. Most people believe that comedians are funny to escape their sadness, and that their

Teratogen Essay
Teratogens are all around pregnant women. Only look at the normal house hold toothpaste that states
on the bottle, to seek medical attention if swallowed. Almost everyone has toothpaste in their home
and uses it everyday but with all the chemicals, it is considered a teratogen if ingested. Teratogens
affect embryo s development and counselors can help prevent exposure to teratogens. Almost any man
made substance could be considered a teratogen to some extent. However, the key question is at what
level is a substance to be considered a teratogens because, to officially be classified as a teratogen it
has to alter the embryo from an unnatural growth or lack of. From the Life Span text, it lists the most
researched teratogens as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The nervous system is likely to be subject to teratogens at week 3 to week 20. However, the nervous
system could be subject to teratogens until birth. Each stage of development with the embryo
constantly transforming the embryo is subject to teratogens largely at initial development of each
major system. Teratogens could affect the heart development at three and half weeks to six and a half.
Without a developed heart, an embryo might not have a long life. As this learner s chosen major as
counseling psychology, There are approaches that would be taken into account to persuade clients not
to expose themselves to teratogens. Everything from educating the client about teratogens to referring
them to a medical doctor to ensure they had a normal and healthy embryo. Listening and explaining
the consequences to the client would help the client understand the consequence of their actions, to
exposure to teratogens. As a counselor, there would not be much one could do to stop exposure of
teratogens besides persuasion unless the client implied or said they were purposely going to try to
harm the embryo, in which it would be a moral obligation and possibly a legal one to take all actions
possible to stop the exposure to the embryo. Teratogens can harm an embryo. Most will not kill an
embryo. However, any large quantity of teratogens like nicotine will

Personal Identity by Derek Parfit
In his 1971 paper Personal Identity , Derek Parfit posits that it is possible and indeed desirable to free
important questions from presuppositions about personal identity without losing all that matters. In
working out how to do so, Parfit comes to the conclusion that the question about identity has no
importance (Parfit, 1971, p. 4.2:3). In this essay, I will attempt to show that Parfit s thesis is a valid
one, with positive implications for human behaviour. The first section of the essay will examine the
thesis in further detail and the second will assess how Parfit s claims fare in the face of criticism.

Problems of personal identity generally involve questions about what makes one the person one is and

4.2:7), we should abandon the language of identity. Therefore, for cases in which we are unable to
speak of identity (because the psychological continuity relation is not one one), psychological
continuity will be just as important as identity.
The problem with psychological continuity, however, is that many of the relations involved (including
memory relations) appear to presuppose identity. Parfit attempts to avoid this charge of circularity by
using the concept of q memory. Q memories do not presume that the person having the q memory and
the person who actually had the experience are the same person, unlike ordinary memories which do
presuppose identity. Parfit applies this same redesription to other relations of psychological continuity
such as intention and responsibility.
Parfit returns to the idea of the importance of the psychological continuity relation in survival to
introduce an even more important relation psychological connectedness . Psychological connectedness
is a kind of direct psychological continuity. It is not transitive as it requires the holding of direct
psychological relations (Parfit, 1971, p. 4.2:13). This contrasts with psychological continuity which is
transitive because it only requires overlapping chains of direct psychological relations (Parfit, 1971,
p.4.2:13). The relation of psychological connectedness is more important for Parfit than that of
psychological continuity A person should

The Common Genetic Birth Defects
One of the most common genetic birth defects is Down syndrome which is a congenital disorder
caused from a chromosome defect. It causes impairments and physical abnormalities. This is a
condition where a child is born with an extra copy of their 21st chromosome. According to the
National Down Syndrome Society (NDSS), 1 in 700 babies are born with DS. There is not an exact
cause of how DS happens but there is an explanation as to what happens. When there is any case of
reproduction, genes from both parents are passed to the children. Within these genes there are
chromosomes and the child is supposed to receive 23 pairs of chromosomes or 46 total. Children with
DS end up with 3 copies or an extra partial copy of chromosome 21 instead of 2 ... Show more content

Children with DS often grow slowly and as they become an adult they are shorter than normal. Their
neck can have excess fat and skin which makes it look shorter than normal. Short, stocky arms and
legs along with a wide space between the big toe and second toe is also a physical body symptom. As
for face shapes and features they can have slanted eyes, nasal bridge that looks pushed in, small ears
that look low on the head, irregularly shaped mouth and tongue. A child s tongue can partly stick out
and the teeth can come in late and in a different order than other children. Most children with DS have
mild to moderate cognitive disabilities such as impulsive behavior, short attention span and slow
learning capabilities. Some health issues that are often symptoms of DS are heart defects,
hypothyroidism, eye conditions, hearing and dental problems, respiratory infections and depression.
(What is Down Syndrome) Children and adults with DS can face many major health concerns during
their life. A few of the most common include repetitive and obsessive compulsive behaviors, autism
spectrum conditions, neuropsychological problems, and inattentive behaviors. Young children with DS
that have limitations in language and communication skills, cognition, and non verbal problem solving
abilities present with increased likelihood of developing: Disruptive, impulsive, inattentive,
hyperactive and oppositional behaviors; anxious,

Core Concert Dance
The CORE Concert Dance Company show presented the dance style of contemporary with the
addition to aerial choreography. The dancers presented many movements through the use of their
bodies that stemmed from choreography in ballet and modern dance moves. With contemporary being
my all time favorite style, the dancers provided a sense of freedom, expression, and unpredictability in
the ways they articulated the movement of the body itself and the objects that were used. In many of
the different pieces that were shown, I noticed that many of the dancers movements in the
choreography involved the torso. The use the torso enabled me to capture the movement of relaxation
that gave off a sense of fluidity and ease through the transition of the next ... Show more content on

The movement related to the four core principles: personal style, improvisation, dynamic play, and a
deep connection to the music in order to convey an expression and a sense of rhythmic movement.
During the performance there were a lot of joyousness and call and response in the choreography. The
areas that contained these social elements were when the dancers were suspended in the air while
doing aerial and partner work on the floor. Throughout the entire show the use of the kinetic elements
such as a bent knee, body part isolations and the use of a flat foot gave an insight on how much
training a dancer had. The aerial dancers especially displayed body isolations when they had to do
splits and hold on to the ropes with one hand while in the air. Without the isolations in the body
movement and the control of the dancers, aerial work would be very difficult to manage since it
requires control and articulation of certain body parts. Contemporary dance can be thought of as jazz
derived or jazz influenced, but jazz will always remain strict on what the movement is supposed to be
and how it supposed to be articulated. One of the main differences between contemporary and jazz is
that in jazz gravity is felt a different way. In contemporary there is an urge to give into gravity such

Machines Vs Voting
It s voting time, are you ready to cast your ballot? Many people will go to the polls this year and
vote. However there are two ways to vote, either paper or an electronic voting machine. They both have
pros and cons but wich one is better? In past years there has only been one way to vote, via a paper
ballot. That you either mail in or go to the polls and cast your ballot. Recently the goverment has come
up with an electronic voting machine. Some beleive that paper is better and others think that voting
machines are the way to go. weather you vote on paper or a machine, it s still important to get out and
vote. First of all I think paper votes are not cost effective, because of the millions of printing that has
to be done. Another

Hillary Clinton Accomplishments
As a eighteen year old woman, I am very excited to get the chance to vote this year. This year is also
the first time a woman has been nominated in a major party. Hillary Clinton was elected to the U.S.
Senate in 2001, allowing her to become the first American First Lady to win a seat in the public office.
Soon after she became the 67th U.S secretary of state in 2009 till 2013. Hillary Clinton is a very hard
working woman which you can tell from her past accomplishments. Hillary Clinton was born on
October 26,1947, in Chicago, Illinois. Hillary Clinton was active in young Republican groups and
even campaigned for Republican presidential nominee Barry Goldwater in 1964. She shifted to the
Democrat party in 1968 after hearing a speech by the

The Movie Hoosiers
I cannot really tell you why I did not start earlier, Indiana being a huge basketball state and all. I mean,
the movie Hoosiers was based on Indiana basketball and the importance it holds on the small, tight
knit communities within the state.
It just seems like it would be natural for me to begin playing organized basketball at an early age, but I
did not other than the rough and tumble playground ball at recess. I began to yearn to play on a real
team, and soon I would have my chance. It was the summer before the sixth grade, and I managed to
talk my father into purchasing me a basketball and my mother into purchasing the rim. We put the rim
up onto the shed and I began practicing.
Every evening I would go out and do shooting drills and also

  • 2. Overture Beethoven This overture is perhaps of the most hard work written by Beethoven. It s hard not just to listen, but also to play. The first time you listen Fidelio might be a little bit confused and bored; however, after two or three times, you start to understand how complex and delicate this overture is. Every time I listen to Fidelio I notice something new, and how can I not listen to something new in a story of personal sacrifice, heroism and triumph?! Perhaps Beethoven wrote it in a way to make the listener image different stories told by different people every time they listen. Sir Colin Davis did an excellent job ahead of his orchestra. They were able to reflect on their instruments every emotion hidden between the notes. A good orchestra plays ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Air Pollution and Global Warming Air Pollution and Global Warming SCI 275 Cheryl Wilson September 30, 2012 Tori Robinson Air pollution causes global warming through the greenhouse effect, according to the United States Environmental Protection Agency. The greenhouse effect occurs when greenhouse gases trap and heat energy from the sun and prevent it from escaping Earth s atmosphere and entering space. (EPA, 2012) Atmospheric pollutions are caused by gasses and solid particulates released into the atmosphere. The most hazard atmospheric pollutions are man made by the production of products. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Animals commonly fall victim to acid rain which is created by sulfur in the air caused by the burning of coal. Sulfur is conducted in vesicles of rain poisoning streams, drinking water supplies, soil, and injuring wildlife. Transportation modes, industrialization and power plants are also major sources of air pollutants from human activities. Furthermore, natural causes contribute to air pollution. For example, volcanic eruptions release large amounts of gases and particulate matter in the air, storms producing pollen grains, and methane gas from marshes. The US contains 4% of the world s population but produces about 25% of all carbon dioxide emissions. By comparison, Britain emits 3% about the same as India, which has 15 times as many people. (BBC, 2009) We, as Americans, must have strategies and solutions for reducing and eliminating pollution and in turn global warming begin on an individual level. Each person must first be responsible for his or her own action. For example, disposing of household chemicals properly, recycling and living as energy as efficiently as possible are effective ways for individuals to reduce pollution. Also, people should hold the federal government and local state governments accountable for monitoring and mandating industrial company s actions. For example, the EPA is responsible for constituting unassailable and equalizes clean air levels. In 1967, Congress passed the Air Quality Act that set forth outlines for air ... Beginning with the crew cut conformity of 1950s Cold War culture and ending with the transition into the uneasy 70s, Anderson notes the rise of an idealistic generation of baby boomers, widespread social activism, and revolutionary counterculture. Anderson explores the rapidly shifting mood of the country with the optimism during the Kennedy years, the liberal advances of Johnson s Great Society, and the growing conflict over Vietnam that nearly tore America apart. To a large extent, it is agreeable that that the 1960s serves as the era that led to activism in the US. Anderson is able to confirm and strengthen his standpoint by the fact that it was during one of the greatest milestones of the 1960s, the Vietnam War, that for the first time in the history of the US, the government was subjected to criticism and attacks against their ways . This can be evidenced by the fact that Americans, which were majority college students, took to the streets to protest government action. At the time, the policies and actions put forth by the government were seen to be very secretive and wrong. Citizens were hastily informed about the need to stop the spread of communism at the expense of capitalism. Not only were government policies seen as corrupt, the government had kept the American society in the dark concerning the actual situation in Vietnam. There seemed to be no cost that was worth retreating from Vietnam. Draft calls were constantly increasing and the war itself began to result in federal expenditures, deficits, and inflationary pressures ( Anderson 90). Patterns of abuse from one parent to another, between both parents or directed toward a child all have a composite effect of inflicting potentially severe emotional damage upon the child. The research outlined here identifies domestic violence as a serious sociological problem and consequently provides a usable definition of domestic violence for the present study. This is followed by a discussion on the various psychological consequences of exposure to domestic violence for a developing child. This includes acknowledgement of the manner in which this exposure may damage the ability to formulate healthy social relationships later in life as well as a greater proclivity toward behavior problems, learning difficulties, substance abuse and a learned pattern of violent tendencies. Decisions are much easier to take. However, the experience of convergence IASB/FASB shows that many years are necessary to ensure the convergence of two reference frames however based on the same Anglo Saxon culture of the businesses. This is due primarily to an existence of an opposition between an approach by the rules in the case of FASB and an approach by the principles which follows IASB. IASB is at the center of the convergence movement. The IFRS are described like founded on principles, which means that they leave a big freedom of action to the companies about the evaluation of the accounting data. The US GAAP are described like founded on rules and they aim to regulate all the possible aspects of the presentation of the accounts. These standards thus require very detailed information on behalf of the companies. In the case of convergence between IASB and FASB, the harmonization of the IFRS and US GAAP is currently working and common solutions have already been found. That do not prevent from the divergence of several points of view, among the principal aspects to be solved one we think about the financial instruments and the presentation of the performances. Every belief, every considering something true, is necessarily false because there is simply no true world (Nietzsche). Nihilism tends to be related to skepticism and pessimism by many people. He spends that first bit of the novel being miserable and gloomy about his situation, but yet he does nothing to change it. Instead he allows Zeena to control him, There had never been anything in her that one could appeal to; but as long as he could ignore and command he had remained indifferent. Instead he is stuck wallowing in past failures until he meets his wife s cousin Mattie and finds himself having an affair with Mattie in an attempt to obtain the sense of love and passion that his marriage lacks. Ethan hates liars and purposely hurting people but he has no compunction about hurting Zeena because he does not seem to see her as a person, Zeena herself, from an oppressive reality, had faded into an insubstantial shade. Sub genres break down a general genre of music into a more specific and sophisticated type of that category. For example, rock has many different branches including soft rock, southern rock, and hard rock. Rock in general typically has a lead electric guitar with a vigorous 4/4 beat produced by the drums. However, in the sub genre of southern rock, a southern country rhythm is combined with a touch of rock and roll. Southern rock maintains a rock aspect by its amplified electric guitar lead and continues to carry a solid beat. Southern rock started to develop in the mid 1960 s and began to hit its peak in the 1970 s. The Allman Brothers, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Outlaws, The Marshall Tucker Band, and ZZ Top were a few of the great early bands in southern rock. • 17. The Theories Of New Criticism During the early part of the 20th century, the formalist theories of New Criticism arose as the preeminent approach to teaching literature in college and high school curricula. Centered on the idea that there is a single, fixed meaning inherent in a literary work, New Criticism is text centered with no consideration given to the author or the reader. The text exists in and of itself, and New Critics advocate methodical and systematic reading, focusing on the structure of the text to define its meaning (Definition, n.d.). Louise Rosenblatt s groundbreaking work in Literature as Exploration (1938/1995) and later refinement of her original thesis in The Reader, the Text, the Poem (1978), rejects the idea of this single, fixed meaning inherent in the text. It is her theory that the individual creates meaning through a transaction with the text based on personal associations, thus lifting the reader to a prominent, essential position along with the author and the text (Mora Welch, 2014). Known as transactional or reader response theory, Rosenblatt viewed the reader as transacting with a text to create what she called the poem; the meaning that emerges from the transaction at a given time. In Literature as Exploration (1938/1995), she argues that the same personal, social, and cultural factors that affect how a person perceived the world will inevitably affect the equation represented by book plus reader (p. 79). It transports important nutrients and oxygen to our cells and acts in the process of removing wastes and carbon dioxide from the body.( American Society of Hematology . n.d.) Also, this specialized fluid helps in defending the body by forming blood clots as a result of a wounded blood vessel and carrying various cells that are crucial to our health. An average human body s weight is made of seven to eight percent blood.( American Society of Hematology . n.d.) The blood is made of different components that perform different actions. It is made of 55 percent plasma and 45 percent cells. ( American Society of Hematology . n.d.) The blood is liquidy due to the presence of plasma. It is composed of water, proteins, fats, and salts. The plasma is crucial in transporting the blood cells and bring waste products to be removed from the body to the kidney and liver. ( American Society of Hematology . n.d.) Cannabis, like many other psychoactive drugs, has been a prominent thorn in society s side since the start of the twentieth century and perhaps even from before. Should we continue to view it as we have, or do we take recent discoveries into account and turn over a new leaf? According to current statistics, cannabis is the most widely used illegal drug in the UK. Interestingly, however, cannabis is not a plant native to the British Isles. It has been theorised that the plant, stemming from Continental Europe, was introduced towards the end of the Roman Occupation. Yet, little is known about its early uses. Surviving ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hemp produced more durable fibres than stinging nettles or flax, and made it ideal for use in ropes, nets, and canvas. This feature was all the more supplemented by the method of cultivation. If hemp was sown close together, the individual plants needed to compete with each other for light. As such, they would be forced to grow taller than their competition, resulting in long stems high in cellulose. As England s navy grew, so too did the demand for hemp. In 1533, King Henry VIII compelled landlords to set aside 1/240th of their tillable land to the growing of hemp; thereby ensuring an adequate supply of fibre. Elizabeth I increased the production yet again, and even went as far as to impose a fine of £5 (around $2000 USD) on any eligible landlord who refused to grow it. Eventually, however, the demand had increased to the extent that the British Isles were no longer able to supply an adequate volume of hemp. Indeed, this was one of the main forces behind the British drive to colonize new lands. Its hardiness and ease of cultivation made it ideal for growth in the colonies. Moreover, the ships that transported supplies and protected these colonies also increased the demand. After countless months of travel these ships would need repair. • 22. Questions and Answers on the Foundations of Singing 1. How does the speaking voice influence the singing voice? I cannot tell you the number of times that I have had vocal teachers tell me that they cannot believe how high I can sing after hearing my speaking voice. Many vocal professionals tell me that I must be an alto and I have had many vocal issues. I have been told it is because teachers are pushing my voice to high and the opposite that it is because I speak too low. I blame it on being a very unhealthy human being. Research has shown a correlation between the speaking and singing voices (Phillips, 236). Poor speaking habits can lead to poor singing habits, which can lead to vocal problems. Many cases of vocal nodules have been reported in children as a result of poor speaking habits. Singing and speaking have similar physiology, which can make it difficult for students that have a poor speaking voice to then go onto having a good singing voice. The speaking voice is learned young in students and often times music teachers do not have any control over it. When the students reach our classrooms it is our job to almost reteach students how to speak so that they can sing properly. Otherwise, many of the students will develop problems that they will work on fixing for the rest of their lives. I am still working on posture and how not to bring muscle into my singing voice, since I use muscle in my speaking voice. 3. Comparing the Attitudes Towards Love and Relationships in The Beggar Woman by William King and To His Coy Mistress by Andrew Marvell In this essay I will be comparing two poems, The Beggar Woman and To His Coy Mistress. I will be looking at how the themes of love and relationships are dealt with. I will also be looking at the historical context of the poems. Firstly in The Beggar Woman, written around 1663 to 1712, by William King. The story within the poem is about a gentleman who, whilst he is out hunting, wants to do another kind of sport , i.e. looking for a woman to have sex with. He found a woman who was a beggar. He just wants a bit of fun like any sport would give him. When reading the poems they create images of what is happening are created. In The Beggar Woman, William King does not use any similes or metaphors. I think this is because he needs to keep things simple for his audience. When he wrote it, he relied on his descriptive words to create a mental picture for the reader. For example, mounts the infant with a gentle toss upon her generous friend, and like a cross, the sheet she with a dextrous motion winds and her cheeks were fresh and linen clean. When reading this line, you can imagine her cheeks; they are smooth, rosy, red, beaming cheeks. Both these quotes make you see an image created by his cleverly written words. In To His Coy Mistress, Andrew Marvell does use metaphors and similes because he thinks the audience expects them as they are upper class. Some examples of the imagery created by metaphors and similes are vegetable love, which is a metaphor; times winged chariot and his slow chapped power , which are personification; like morning dew and like ... The Great Pyramid Of Giza Giza, an area located southwest of what is now known as Cairo, is home to one of the most astonishing and mysterious feats of architecture ever assembled, The Great Pyramid. Located approximately 5 miles west of the Nile River near the city of Cairo, Egypt, The Great Pyramid is part of a larger complex called the Giza Necropolis, which also houses the Great Sphinx, and two smaller pyramids. It is said to have been built by the enslaved citizens of Khufu, second ruler of the 4th dynasty, and son of Snefru. Although archaeologists have since disproved that theory. The pyramids are said to have been built to house the deceased bodies of the pharaohs after they have transitioned into the after life. However, there is no evidence of this being the case. There are many questions surrounding the Pyramids of Giza, some of which, might not ever be answered. Subsequently, archaeologists, engineers, scientists and Egyptologists have been able to provide some very logical theories to try and answer these questions. Built between 2589 BC and 2504 BC for pharaohs Khufu, Khafre, and Menkaure, the Pyramids of Giza are the only ones of the original structures of the Seven Wonders of the World that still stand. There were eight major feats of engineering involved in the construction of the pyramid. The purpose of this chapter is to provide discussion on the hiring of the natives in the Dominican Republic. The thesis of the chapter is to explain how the riff raff are arising from the problem of the luxury tourism having little contribution to the local economies. The key to the analysis of Gregory of this situation is his concept of citizenship as a technology of power that empowers the tourism police to uphold a sort of social hygiene for the benefit of the tourists, who would rather not to be disturbed or aggravated by the beggars or vendors. This system of exclusion relies on the cédula (national ID) that one must have with the specific end goal to get formal work, for example, to sell products in the Zona Playera (Gregory 135). The most valuable of Gregory s experiences is his thought of the imperial masculinity supporting sex tourism. The scenario is evident when Gregory observes a gathering of the U.S. Army men who are off duty stationed in the nation; he is told to watch out for Cuba, being acquainted with a couple of young prostitutes at a bar. Their connections with the women (grabbing and looking at their bodies, asking their ages, and posing for photos), Gregory notes, were dramatically performed to impel the aggregate cooperation of the men (through laughter, catching the eyes of each other, and hollering and whooping and hollering). • 40. Teratogen Essay Teratogens are all around pregnant women. Only look at the normal house hold toothpaste that states on the bottle, to seek medical attention if swallowed. Almost everyone has toothpaste in their home and uses it everyday but with all the chemicals, it is considered a teratogen if ingested. Teratogens affect embryo s development and counselors can help prevent exposure to teratogens. Almost any man made substance could be considered a teratogen to some extent. However, the key question is at what level is a substance to be considered a teratogens because, to officially be classified as a teratogen it has to alter the embryo from an unnatural growth or lack of. However, the nervous system could be subject to teratogens until birth. Each stage of development with the embryo constantly transforming the embryo is subject to teratogens largely at initial development of each major system. Teratogens could affect the heart development at three and half weeks to six and a half. Without a developed heart, an embryo might not have a long life. As this learner s chosen major as counseling psychology, There are approaches that would be taken into account to persuade clients not to expose themselves to teratogens. Everything from educating the client about teratogens to referring them to a medical doctor to ensure they had a normal and healthy embryo. Listening and explaining the consequences to the client would help the client understand the consequence of their actions, to exposure to teratogens. As a counselor, there would not be much one could do to stop exposure of teratogens besides persuasion unless the client implied or said they were purposely going to try to harm the embryo, in which it would be a moral obligation and possibly a legal one to take all actions possible to stop the exposure to the embryo. Teratogens can harm an embryo. Most will not kill an embryo. However, any large quantity of teratogens like nicotine will ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Personal Identity by Derek Parfit In his 1971 paper Personal Identity , Derek Parfit posits that it is possible and indeed desirable to free important questions from presuppositions about personal identity without losing all that matters. In working out how to do so, Parfit comes to the conclusion that the question about identity has no importance (Parfit, 1971, p. 4.2:3). In this essay, I will attempt to show that Parfit s thesis is a valid one, with positive implications for human behaviour. The first section of the essay will examine the thesis in further detail and the second will assess how Parfit s claims fare in the face of criticism. I Problems of personal identity generally involve questions about what makes one the person one is and what it takes for the ... Therefore, for cases in which we are unable to speak of identity (because the psychological continuity relation is not one one), psychological continuity will be just as important as identity. The problem with psychological continuity, however, is that many of the relations involved (including memory relations) appear to presuppose identity. Parfit attempts to avoid this charge of circularity by using the concept of q memory. Q memories do not presume that the person having the q memory and the person who actually had the experience are the same person, unlike ordinary memories which do presuppose identity. Parfit applies this same redesription to other relations of psychological continuity such as intention and responsibility. Parfit returns to the idea of the importance of the psychological continuity relation in survival to introduce an even more important relation psychological connectedness . Psychological connectedness is a kind of direct psychological continuity. It is not transitive as it requires the holding of direct psychological relations (Parfit, 1971, p. 4.2:13). This contrasts with psychological continuity which is transitive because it only requires overlapping chains of direct psychological relations (Parfit, 1971, p.4.2:13). The relation of psychological connectedness is more important for Parfit than that of psychological continuity A person should ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. The Common Genetic Birth Defects One of the most common genetic birth defects is Down syndrome which is a congenital disorder caused from a chromosome defect. It causes impairments and physical abnormalities. This is a condition where a child is born with an extra copy of their 21st chromosome. According to the National Down Syndrome Society (NDSS), 1 in 700 babies are born with DS. There is not an exact cause of how DS happens but there is an explanation as to what happens. When there is any case of reproduction, genes from both parents are passed to the children. Within these genes there are chromosomes and the child is supposed to receive 23 pairs of chromosomes or 46 total. Children with DS end up with 3 copies or an extra partial copy of chromosome 21 instead of 2 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 43. Core Concert Dance The CORE Concert Dance Company show presented the dance style of contemporary with the addition to aerial choreography. The dancers presented many movements through the use of their bodies that stemmed from choreography in ballet and modern dance moves. With contemporary being my all time favorite style, the dancers provided a sense of freedom, expression, and unpredictability in the ways they articulated the movement of the body itself and the objects that were used. In many of the different pieces that were shown, I noticed that many of the dancers movements in the choreography involved the torso. The use the torso enabled me to capture the movement of relaxation that gave off a sense of fluidity and ease through the transition of the next ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The movement related to the four core principles: personal style, improvisation, dynamic play, and a deep connection to the music in order to convey an expression and a sense of rhythmic movement. During the performance there were a lot of joyousness and call and response in the choreography. The areas that contained these social elements were when the dancers were suspended in the air while doing aerial and partner work on the floor. Throughout the entire show the use of the kinetic elements such as a bent knee, body part isolations and the use of a flat foot gave an insight on how much training a dancer had. The aerial dancers especially displayed body isolations when they had to do splits and hold on to the ropes with one hand while in the air. Without the isolations in the body movement and the control of the dancers, aerial work would be very difficult to manage since it requires control and articulation of certain body parts. Contemporary dance can be thought of as jazz derived or jazz influenced, but jazz will always remain strict on what the movement is supposed to be and how it supposed to be articulated. One of the main differences between contemporary and jazz is that in jazz gravity is felt a different way. In contemporary there is an urge to give into gravity such ... • 46. The Movie Hoosiers I cannot really tell you why I did not start earlier, Indiana being a huge basketball state and all. I mean, the movie Hoosiers was based on Indiana basketball and the importance it holds on the small, tight knit communities within the state. It just seems like it would be natural for me to begin playing organized basketball at an early age, but I did not other than the rough and tumble playground ball at recess. I began to yearn to play on a real team, and soon I would have my chance. It was the summer before the sixth grade, and I managed to talk my father into purchasing me a basketball and my mother into purchasing the rim. We put the rim up onto the shed and I began practicing. Every evening I would go out and do shooting drills and also ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
