Pregnancy And Sex In I Love Lucy
Lucy, you ve got some splaining to do! If you are anything like me, you can hear Ricky Ricardo
s iconic voice and as you express this most quotable line, you are impersonating Mr. Ricky
Ricardo. I Love Lucy is one of the most legendary and most famous situation comedies of all
time, maintaining its ability to appeal audience even half a century later. The television show
follows the life of Lucy Ricardo (Lucille Ball), a goofy woman of the house in the 1950s as she
attempts to break into show business. In attempts to do so, Lucy gets herself into crazy situations
that she often tries to resolve before her husband, Ricky Ricardo (Desi Arnaz), comes home. This
television show has transformed society as a whole. This television show pushed boundaries by
having a bi racial romantic relationship on television. In the 1950s, individuals would not have
thought that a white woman and a Cuban man would be in a romantic relationship, especially on a
television show. When Lucy gets pregnant, this situation is the first depiction of pregnancy on a
television show. Pregnancy and sex are topics not often brought up in television shows back in the
1950s. Lucille Ball was not your average American homemaker. She set the platform for the proto
feminist lifestyle that us American women live in today. I Love Lucyhas dealt with controversial
issues since before the first episode aired on television. The producers at CBS did not believe that
viewers would accept that Lucy could be married

Songs Written During War Times
There was never a good war, or a bad peace. said Benjamin Franklin, showing the importance of
peace and unnecessariness of war. The songs are the symbol of sadness, love, desire, sorrow,
expectancy and other unnumbered emotions. And on the other hand the lyrics are the voice of the
society. Therefore, the lyricists and the artists composed songs for different occasions, such as
hunger, poverty, demand for freedom, and war. The war songs were also composed during the
World War II, the Vietnam War and the Cold War
era as well to illuminate the wishes of the
community. The songs sometimes showed the anger of the people, sometimes the wish for peace
and the anger to the leaders.

Successful Open Marriages In Opening Up By Alfred Kinsey
Open marriages are a form of relationship first brought into the public eye by Alfred Kinsey in the
1960s. Since then, the idea of approved extra martial affairs have become even more popular,
despite the uneducated critics hollering about it being an insult to the institution of marriage, or a
way to justify cheating on one s significant other. As open marriages start to become a more
feasible option for couples looking to explore their sexuality, a common question always seems to
come up; this inquiry, in fact, will be the purpose of the following text. To begin, I use examples
from the 2004 biographical film Kinsey, directed by Bill Condon and produced by Gail Mutrux.
While integrating discussion from Tristan Taormino and her book Opening Up: A Guide to
Sustaining Open Relationships, I introduce the concept of sociosexuality with the help of Lars
Penke s Sociosexual Orientation Inventory. In creating discussion with the above names, I aim to
demonstrate just what does make for a successful open relationship.
In the film Kinsey (Condon Mutrux, 2004), there is a clear divide between what constitutes a
successful and unsuccessful open relationship. Alfred Kinsey and his wife Clara Macmillan both
engage in extramarital affairs, yet remain close physically, emotionally, and sexually. Alternatively,
Clyde Martin (whom, it is worth noting, at one time engaged in an affair with both Kinsey and his
wife) starts a fight with another man, Paul Gebhard, after finding out Mrs.

The Electric Drive Revolution And Electric Cars
Capstone Introduction Paragraph
The electric drive revolution will become accepted and advance over time, just like computers and
cell phones have over the last few days (anonymous). Electric cars have been around for many
years. But they just started coming back around in the 21st century. Before anyone who had
charging stations they would have to switch out their battery for their electric car whenever it ran
out. The electric cars were created to basically compete with gas powered cars. They were also
created to reduce the pollution created by gas cars. Countries all over the world have started to
create more and more electric cars. In fact, in this exact moment Japan already has more
charging stations than gas stations which could possibly mean that they already have more
electric cars than gas cars. The first electric car was created in the early 1900 s by Thomas
Edison. People are only starting to go back to electric cars because charging stations were
invented. With charging stations in place now people won t have to rely on gas stations and gas
powered cars, they will only rely on the more environment friendly charging stations and electric
cars. Also with electric cars you have a lot more options to pick from when it comes to batteries
to buy and charge. You can use lead acid batteries, zinc air batteries, and many more. Plus using
electricity instead of gas is a lot cheaper. With time, gas powered cars will become extinct. Electric
cars will continue to

Several faces were painted as Calaveras, or skulls; some were colorful, intricate designs, others
were simple, yet elegant, with black and white. People were gathered to celebrate the Day of the
Dead. Day of the Dead is celebrated on November 2nd. This was the 42nd day of the Dead event
hosted by Self Help Graphics, at Felicitas and Gonzalo Mendez High School. This year s event was

information booth, the return of the souls, refers to the monarch butterflies that return every year

with the beautiful displays of artwork, there was also food and entertainment at the event. Vendors

children s art workshops, and performers such as Brenton Wood, The Wise Guys, and El Haru

The Influence Of Ethnic And Ethnic Culture
1: How did sports help create and maintain ethnic and racial identity in this period? Why do you
think this happened? Be sure to include Moses Fleetwood Walker as one of the individuals in your
discussion.
There was a great many ways in which sports helped to form and keep ethnic and racial identities
during the time frame. Some ethnic groups used their culture s sports, and the clubs they formed, in
order to resist assimilation into American culture thus keeping their own country s ethnic culture
intact. While some groups made the choice to maintain their ethnic culture rather than integrate it
with America s larger culture, others had no say in the matter. The group that comes to mind are the
African American people. Contrary to European clubs that tended to fight inclusion African
Americans wished to be integrated into the American culture but were denied due to systemic racism
spanning across the country. Even when they were allowed to participate in sports it wasn t for
long. Take Moses Fleetwood Walker for instance, he was one of the first African Americans to
play professional baseball because another team s player manager refused to play games with an
African American (Gems 145). One of the few real sports avenues left for African Americans was
the sport of boxing and even that was rife with racism. The only reason Africans were even allowed
to participate because white spectators enjoyed watching the brutalization of blacks (Gems 145).

David Schön Model Of Reflective Practice
As important as methods may be, the most practical thing we can achieve in any kind of work is
insight into what is happening inside us as we do it. The more familiar we are with our inner
terrain, the more sure footed our [work] and living becomes. P. J. Palmer (cited in Skovholt, T. M.,
2001).
The pursuit for self awareness or self understanding is a chief factor of valuable reflective practice.
Counsellors need not only to be conscious of their abilities, facts and presentation as professionals,
but also wary of any private aspects that may mess with or obstruct their capability to supply an
efficient and objective service. Counselling professionals in their everyday practice encounter

The Sport Of Boxing And Sports
Millions and millions of people are part of some kind of sport worldwide. Many sports require
more than one person in the team such as soccer and basketball. In the other hand there are sports
that are exercised with only two persons, which are the opponents. Many times spectators just
watch these sports but never think, much less, experience the challenges that athletes face. In the
sport of boxingthere are many effects psychologically that boxers face every time they set there
feet on a ring. In life people go to college so that with their education one day they can get a well
paying career. Similar to this example people are in the sport of boxing so that with a
combination of their hard work and talent they can achieve something in life. Some other
reasons to why people box is to prove to themselves of what they are capable of doing as well as
for the fame. Once a boxer goes professional and starts to beat their opponents then, that is when
media starts to get ahold of them. Companies such as HBO, an American premium cable and
satellite television network, then start to sponsor boxers. Once boxers start to get sponsored then
that is when they start earning seven digit incomes. According to forbes.com, a leading online
media company, Floyd Mayweather (professional boxer), will be paid $200 million dollars for this
current year (2015.) Mayweather is the best paid athlete in the world, which only translates to the
amount of money a boxer can earn if he becomes famous.

She looked down at the bed can I ask you for a favor? Before I could answer she told me what

United States V. Texas Case Analysis
The Highest court in the United States is the Supreme Court. The Court consists of nine
Justices, 1 Chief and eight Associate Justices. Cases that make it to the supreme courts are cases
that have been heard and decided from lower courts at the State level. Which cases get picked?
For the Judges to actually hear the case 4 of the 9 justices have to agree to hear the case. The
Supreme Court does not have the time to hear every case because of time and resource
constraints. Nevertheless, if a petition is granted it goes on the discussion list for approval. The
Supreme Court only hears cases that involve federal issues. The Supreme Court will ignore the
case that involved issues with the State. To mention a few examples of cases the Supreme Court

Improving the quality of a company s product offering is consistent with achieving responsiveness,
as is developing new products with features that existing products lack. In other words, achieving
superior quality and innovation is integral to achieving superior responsiveness to customers.
Another factor that stands out in any discussion of responsiveness to customers is the need to
customize goods and services to the unique demands of individual customers or customer groups.
For example, the proliferation of soft drinks and beers can be viewed partly as a response to this
trend. Better customer responsiveness can further be provided with superior design, and superior
after sales service and support. All of these factors enhance responsiveness to customers and allow a
company to differentiate itself from its less responsive competitors. In turn, differentiation enables a

Interventions Of Separation Anxiety Disorder
Interventions of Separation Anxiety
Separation anxiety disorder (SAD) is one of the most common anxiety disorders in preadolescent
children and can cause serious distress in a child s life. Having separation anxiety disorder in
childhood can significantly increase the chances of internalizing problems and other anxiety
disorders. Unfortunately, because separation anxiety is common in children it is hard to determine
if the behaviors the children are displaying are atypical. Although there are various types of
treatment options for SAD, parent child interaction therapy (PCIT) can be extremely helpful
particularly in the school system as teachers can adopt the same techniques using teacher child
interaction therapy (TCIT). Therefore, the child is not only receiving treatment at home, their
treatment is consistent at school. PCIT has proved to be an efficient and popular treatment for
SAD, which will be outlined and confirmed in this paper through analysis of PCIT and TCIT.
Parent Child Interaction Therapy
PCIT focuses on the idea that improving the parent child interaction will lead to improvements in
child and family s functioning (Pincus, Eyberg, Choate, 2005) that have been impaired due to SAD.
Parent s responses to their child s anxiety allows for the continuation of the disorder. PCIT teaches
parents new response methods and improves attachment in result that the child will be able to
separate without distress. There are two phases to Parent Child Interaction

Frost sMending Wall, By Robert Frost
Mending Wall was influenced by Frost s neighbor while he lived on his farm in New Hampshire.
Like in Home Burial, and Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening, Mending Wall is based on
Frost s experiences in New England. Frost and his neighbor met every spring to wall along their
stone wall and fix any problems with it, this is the exact setting of Mending Wall ( History ).
Frost s neighbor, like the neighbor in the poem, always believed in the same saying good fences
make good neighbors. The only major difference between the poem and Frost s actual experiences
is that in the poem the farmer and his neighbor had orchards, while Frost had a poultry farm (
History ).

This proves that everything he wrote had an impact on the literary world and what he wrote was
important too. Furthermore, Frost was nominated for the Nobel Prize in 1950 and was close to
winning it again in 1961, but failed to win it because of his advanced age (Kainzow). To be so
close to winning one of the most recognized awards at the age of 86, further proves his
significance in the literary canon. Frost was so important to the literary world that Poet Society of
America named an award after him. The Robert Frost Medal is awarded to poets for their
distinguished lifetime achievement in American poetry ( Frost ).
In 1960 Frost was presented with the Congressional Gold Medal, which is the highest award an
American civilian can win. President John F. Kennedy presented him with the award in 1960 and
a year later President Kennedy asked Frost to recite a poem at his inauguration (Biography). Frost
recited The Gift Outright but because his vision was begging to fail he had to memorize the poem.
This shows just how popular Frost was, and how well respect he was too.
Frost s importance to the literary canon can be shown by more than the awards he has won.
Frost was able to reach a large and diversified readership (Caravantes), unlike poets like Shakespear
whose work can be found harder to read and comprehend, Frost s work consisted of colloquial
language which allowed him to be able to speak in poetic but plain language

Research Paper On Health Evangelism
Health evangelism is the good news that Jesus makes people healthier. Health evangelism is
Christ centered evangelism integrated with a health program. The health component of health
evangelism contains information regarding the risks associated with unhealthy living and
provides behavior change strategies designed to correct bad habits and addictions. The
evangelistic component of health evangelism introduces people to Jesus. Jesus provides the
power to change. Lasting behavior change is impossible for many people who rely on their own
efforts, but a relationship with Jesus turns a life around. This is true in the physical realm as well
as in the spiritual realm. Many people who don t know Jesus to begin with, will identify a health
evangelism program as the start of their Christian experience. Many who already have a religious
background will find a deeper and intensely practical relationship with Jesus as they learn to trust
Him for daily... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Perhaps some of them have not experienced Jesus in their own lives and have not learned how
essential Jesus is to successful healthful living. Evangelists have not helped the situation much
either. The constant question posed to those conducting health programs is, Where are the
baptisms? This question looks at the end of the process and doesn t recognize the multiple steps
that precede baptism. Health evangelism helps prepare people for baptism by leading them
through the several steps that precede baptism. Perhaps the biggest reason we are not doing more
health evangelism is because we haven t been doing it up to this point and we really do not know
how to do it. On the scientific side, health evangelism of the type advocated here has not been
studied. We would do more health evangelism if we had proof that health evangelism is more
effective in changing behaviors than traditional behavior change

Why Are Genetically Modified Organisms Affect The Environment
In 1920, genetically modified organisms (GMOs) were created by exposing normal organisms
to radiation which caused mutations in their genes. But in the late 90 s scientists discovered a
more effective and safer way to pass genes from a different organism to another organism, like
the genes of bacteria and viruses to plants (Green, Why are GMOs Bad? ). But what happened
nine years later from 1996, the year when GMOs were introduced into the foods that we still
consume until this day, showed that the 13% of Americans presented three or more chronic
diseases, when before it was only the 7%. In the past sixteen years GMOs have raised and are still

Farmers of GM (genetically modified) crops use big amounts of herbicide that are more and
more toxic every year, and the reason for that is because, GM crops are designed to be herbicide
tolerant. US farmers used extra amounts of 383 million pounds of herbicides between the years
1996 and 2008, this overuse resulted in super weeds (Smith, par 7). Another reason of why GM
crops affect the environment is because a lot of GM plants already contain insecticides, these are
called Bt plants, they are named like this because they incorporate a transgene that makes a
protein based toxin, also called Cry toxins (Latham, par 9), but the creators of these plants have
stated that it only affects insects that affect the crops, but they haven t said that they are also
affecting the insects that help with the balance of the ecosystem such as butterflies and bees, and
they also affect other species such as birds. Something that the creators of these crops have not
stated is that these seeds, GM seeds, travel and contaminate other farms, and a lot of non GMO
and organic farmers have been affected, causing them a lot of economic loses. GM crop seeds have
been found growing in the wild, threatening the balance of the

Within a person s life, their identity is vital in countless ways. Your identity is shown in multiple

negative effects against the other races and discrimination against others. It can also transition
over time, and change the way people look at you as a person. All things are considered, identity
is something that is disfavoured and protected and very important to a person s life. In conclusion,

My identity as a boy is incredibly important to who I am as a person. I have always been
discriminated by my height and how they say You shorty. Eventually, I overcome that saying
and didn t take it to a more serious level and I get even stronger ever day and always have more
faith in myself. I ve started to play soccer at a very young age it has made stronger emotionally
and also made me stronger physically. My identity as a short boy also affects how others see me,
for example, for example, people often assume that I m not able to run at fast pace and then I
prove them wrong and it shows my abilities as a short boy. However, my identity and how people
see me encouraged others to play soccer like I do. If I did not fight for my own identity as a short
soccer player, my identity would have a much more discrimination. Overall, my identity as a male
soccer player is worth protecting and preserving and others should always be open with and we
wouldn t have as much discrimination. We, humans, are defined by our identity, and to uphold and
appreciate our identities is to uphold and celebrate humanity. Our identities are something we
should be proud of, a shining example of individuality or your commitment to a group. In our
world, people all over are fighting the battle that our ancestors fought for us. It is our duty to help

Just Absolute In The Republic By Plato
I believe that fundamentally, we can all agree that disagreements have become an inevitable
aspect of human nature, which has lasted for millennia. From what I ve observed, this stems from
our ability to perceive things differently especially in how we define, value and categorize certain
aspects of our lives. Although this is not a problem pertaining to simple matters but issues do
arrive with more complex ideas and ideologies. In the Republic by Plato, Socrates asks his friends
to define more complex matters such as just and courage in their own words. There we see a
distinction between what is knowledge and what is our beliefs which occur as two different
spheres. Some believe that one sphere should be more highly valued than the other... Show more

The Nature Of Violence In Grendel And Beowulf
War is an inescapable pattern in history. The world is constantly in a state of war. In America, we
see a war amongst ourselves with racism, discrimination, and hate crime. These wars seem
meaningless, and reveal that humans have an ingrained yearning for violence. While reading the
novels Beowulf, told from the perspective of a hero, and Grendel, told from the perspective of the
monster, the innately violent nature of humans becomes apparent. Throughout Beowulfand Grendel,
killing and warare common themes. Both novels feature violent scenes that show the cruel nature
of humans. In Grendel, the humans attack because they feel unsure about Grendel s motives and
uneasy by his scary appearance. When the humans went to war, they often expressed joy and
would hold parties to congratulate themselves for killing others (Heaney 35). Throughout the
novel, Beowulf doings [of murder] were praised over and over again (Heaney 57) by the citizens of
his city. The positive response to these brutal acts demonstrates the human wanting for violence.
History demonstrates mans violent tendencies. Jeffrey Goldstein, a psychologist at Temple
University, says that We write and teach our history in terms of violent events, marking time by
wars (Kohn 1). We measure our existence based on the violence we create. The climax of our
histories is measured by the violence and wars we endure. The non war periods during history are
selective times of reporting (Kohn 1), where we report violence

Walkerton Water System Case Study
The Walkerton water system was supplied by three groundwater wells: wells 5, 6, and 7.
Contamination into the drinking water supply was through Well 5. Well 5 was a shallow well,
and all of the water drawn from the well came from a very shallow area. This water was drawn
from an area of highly fractured bedrock. This fracturing, and the geological nature of the
surrounding bedrock, made it possible for surface bacteria to quickly enter into the fractured rock
(O Connor, 2002, pp.166).
The water distribution system in Walkerton included 41.5 km of water mains as well as two
standpipes, which provided water storage and pressure equalization for the system. It is estimated
that in the Walkerton system, between 33 and 35 locations were dead ends. There is a greater risk
of bacterial contamination in dead ends, because water does not adequately circulate in them and
may become stagnant (O Connor, 2002, pp.57). The water system had a reserve capacity of 20
hours. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Well 5 was supplied by a groundwater source that was under the direct influence of surface water.

The German Refugee Analysis
Oskar s Struggle: The life of a German immigrant during World War II In the story The German
Refugee, written by Bernard Malamud, Oskar, a Jewish immigrant from Germany struggles to
learn English and cope with the depression of his past. Many German immigrants, especially
those that were Jewish, had to struggle with similar problems like Oskar s. Unfortunately, Oskar
kills himself at the end of the paper, leaving his American dream unfulfilled and succumbing to
the depression that followed him throughout the story. Oskar is a first generation Immigrant
from Germany, leaving his wife in Germany to flee from the persecution of Hitler and the Nazis.
Oskar is well educated, having been a German reporter and critic before he emigrated to the U.S
to give lectures at the Institute of Public Studies once a week. One trait that Oskar struggles with
throughout the story and unfortunately succumbs to at the end, is his depression. His depression
is mainly due to leaving his wife that he loved in Germany and attempting to learn English so
that he does not get embarrassed at the lecture. Also, we learn early on in the story that Oskar
has been struggling with depression since his arrival in America, having attempted suicide in the
first week he was here. Along with being depressed, Oskar is also very lonely, will all of his
friends and family back in Germany and his only friend in America being Martin Goldberg, his
English tutor. Oskar struggles with many of the same things that other Jewish immigrants from
Germany would have. Oskar, like many of them, is fleeing for his life because Germany at the time
was under Nazi rule and Jews across Germany were being sent to concentration camps and being
killed. Also, like many other immigrants from other countries, Oskar has a hard time learning the
English language. Immigrants like Oskar needed to learn the language in order to find their way
around the city, obtain a job, and buy things such as apartments and food. Without the language, the
immigrants are isolated just like Oskar. However, Oskar had some unique experiences unlike other
immigrants that have come to this country. Oskar lives alone, nowhere near a German community,

How Does John Keats Use Figurative Language
Everyone is fearful of dying. However, because each individual is unique, everyone has different
levels of fear and varying regrets. In the early 1800s, a young poet named John Keats wrote
When I Have Fears in which he explains his fears and regrets about death. Employing devices such
as sophisticated abstract diction, figurative language, and symbols, John Keats shows that living as
if tomorrow would never appear is an excellent way to abandon fears about death. During the first
twelve lines of the shakespearean sonnet, Keats uses a variety of high level abstract diction and
symbols while also including figurative language, in order to explain his complex fears. Keats
simply wants to express his fears, including any goals he wishes to

Devolution In Uk
Even though Conservatives in particular believe it may lead to the break up of the UK because
demands for independence will be fuelled by devolution. It was argued that demand for devolution
was over exaggerated, especially in Wales, so it was unnecessary. It creates an extra layer of
government which will lead to confusion and increase costs to the taxpayer. In Scotlandit was feared
that taxes there would inevitably rise because Scotland is less prosperous than the UK as a whole.

When film spread across the country in the early 1900 s so did romanticized pictures of the west.
Western films portrayed the conquest of the frontier in the name of civilization. In these films, the
plot was almost always about good versus bad. The films usually showed the cowboy riding into a
lawless town and restoring order. Typical elements of western films included breathtaking settings
and open landscapes. In all the western films, the cowboys wore the same wardrobe, blue jeans
and boots. Americans living in the East became enamored with the West. Easterners began traveling
west to places like dude ranches to experience the spirit of the Wild West. Of course, the experience
was not complete with out the costume. Thus, blue jeans were purchased for the first time by non
westerners.
Blue jeans were no longer just for the hard working miners. People from the East bought them for
trips to the West. They brought them back East with them. In the East, blue jeans were not worn
often by all. Schoolchildren, boys in particular were often the only ones wearing them. Parents,
especially those of limited means, bought jeans for their children because of their durability.
During the 1930 s blue jeans were found all throughout schools. Children grew up wearing blue
jeans. Jeans had become a common article of clothing for a new generation. Blue jeans sales rose
at a steady pace after the Great Depression.

A List Of Stereotypes Of Women
It s your first day at school and you are standing in the middle of a crowded cafeteria wondering
where to sit and which social group to hang out with. You glance over at the jocks and think to
yourself too popular, too sporty. You quickly turn and notice the band kids, too geeky. Then
there s the cheerleaders, too much gossip, too fake. You are assuming all these things because of
the stereotypes society has thrown upon them. So, you eventually settle for eating your lunch
alone, but little did you know, you could have been friends with any of those social groups. You
don t know what any of their personalities are like, and you have just believed and judged them
by their stereotypes, like many other people. excellent intro. The list of stereotypes is endless. A
stereotype is a fixed overgeneralized belief about a particular group or class of people, also known
as assumptions. In other words, when we stereotype, we are imagining that a person has a large
variation of abilities and attributes that all the members of their stereotype group also have. But

Voting Is A Right That All Americans
Voting is a right that all Americans have once hitting the age of 18 regardless of race, gender, or
financial status. However, not everyone chooses to exercise these rights or even fully
understands how to use them properly. Voting is not as simple as just going to a ballot box and
checking the box for the person whom had the most signs and television commercials. Being a
voter means that one has an influence over the government and who makes important decisions
regarding the nation or state. However, if one does not know all of the details about who they are
voting for, they could be voting blindly. It is important to do research and make factual decisions
about who should be elected. If one is not fully informed, than the less suitable candidate could be
elected into office due to a lack of information. All of the information necessary to make a strong
decision is available, it just depends on whether or not Americans go through the effort to locate it
and use it. Voting for the most desired and suitable candidate is important whether it is
congressional district, senate, or presidency.

The Trouble With Wilderness By Cronon
People in the US have assigned many different meanings to wilderness. Wilderness can be
viewed as a nonhuman world where we can go to survive and escape reality. Wilderness is an
unexplored land that can mean something entirely different for every individual. For many
Americans, wilderness stands as the last remaining place where we can go and have fun. In
America today, people go to the wild, to party and enjoy their weekend. I ve come to realize that
everyone s perspective of wildernesscomes from media, stories and their personal experiences. As
people have given meaning to wilderness, I also have given wilderness a different meaning.

There are two views: one that it is a solution to our problematic relationships while others reason
that it s a place where we can go insane. Wilderness in fact has been seen as a place of youth and
childhood, in which we can abandon our past. In William s Cronon article, The Trouble with
Wilderness he talks about how we escape to the wilderness to forget our past. Cronon states,
Seen as the bold landscape of frontier heroism, it is the place of youth and childhood, into which
men escape by abandoning their pasts and entering a world of freedom where the constraints of
civilization fade into memory (Cronon 427). This quote is a great representation of how we can
see wilderness as a place of escape because we enter a world of freedom that fade away our
problems. The wild is important to have because it s the last remaining place where we can turn
to escape from our own too muchness. When we enter the wild we are free with no customs to
follow. The wild allows us to be less responsible and free to venture away from society. This quote
has a great connection with my perspective because it s saying that it s a place of renewal,
relaxation and peace. Therefore, wilderness is a place of refuge. No matter in what perspective
we see it, wilderness offers us a refuge that we can use to escape the cares and troubles of the world,
in which our past has trapped us

In fact, the spiritual worldview does not necessarily reject logical reasoning in human

freedom, or the lush green landscape that comes from choice. Jill looks out the window and sees
the barren deserted hill first, a symbol of her current state and feeling with the american. She has
no choice over her life and thus feels empty. In turn she states, They look like white elephants,

Johnson states; The hills like white elephants also serve to remind one of the couple s
conflicting views on abortion. A white elephant, in one meaning of the term, is anything rare,
expensive, and difficult to keep; any burdensome possession; an object no longer esteemed by
its owner though not without value to others. (Johnson 233 238). This elephant is the baby, the
American sees the baby as an elephant, big and needing much upkeep and unnecessary. On the

The Pros And Cons Of Pitbulls
Have you ever seen a pitbull walking on a sidewalk, or at a dog park? If you have, you may have
seen people avoiding it. But why? Over the years, pitbulls have gained a bad rep for pets. People
often say they are the choice of drug dealers, and other bad folks for a reason. They say this
because pitbulls are often documented for attacks, and being danger to their communities. Do you
agree? I don,t. To me, it makes no sense to why they are bad pets. Just because they can attack
doesn t mean they are all a danger, or a hazard. Here is why I think that.
One reason is that they can help and warn people. A thing that a lot of people don t understand is
that pitbulls are very loyal to their owner. That is why they are often guard dogs. Because of
their loyalty, they have helped in the military. In the early 1900s, there was a pitbull named
Stubby who became a military hero for warning the soldiers of a gas leak that could have killed
them. He saved many lives that day. That is a benefit of a pitbull. They will help their owners. So

Cholesterol Essay
Cholesterol is an essential molecule for animal life. It is an integral component of the plasma
membrane of animal cells, it is a precursor of steroid hormones and bile acids, and it plays a
crucial role in the formation of the myelin sheath that surrounds axons. Cholesterol and other
insoluble lipids are transported through the bloodstream in lipoprotein particles. Lipoproteins are a
family of globular particles comprised of a core of neutral lipids surrounded by cholesterol,
phospholipids, and apoproteins. Low density lipoprotein (LDL) and high density lipoprotein
(HDL) are the two primary carriers of cholesterol in the blood. The primary function of LDL is to
deliver cholesterol to cells throughout the body, where it is removed from... Show more content on

From an early age, these individuals are at high risk for atherosclerosis and heart disease.
Heterozygous FH individuals are also at risk for these diseases, albeit to a much lesser degree.
Because the FH mutation also caused the disease in heterozygous individuals, Goldstein and Brown
began with the assumption that FH was the result of a defect in regulation of cholesterol synthesis.
Discovery of the LDL Receptor
Goldstein and Brown began their work by measuring the activity of 3 hydroxy 3 methylglutaryl
coenzyme A reductase (HMG CoA reductase), which catalyzes the rate limiting step in cholesterol
production. Goldstein and Brown found that when normal fibroblasts were grown in serum, HMG
CoA reductase activity was low. Additionally, they found that when cholesterol carrying
lipoproteins was removed from the culture medium, HMG CoA reductase activity increased by a
large margin. Furthermore, they observed that HMG CoA reductase activity was suppressed when
LDL was reintroduced to the medium. This inhibition of HMG CoA reductase by LDL, and the
fact that low concentrations of LDL suppressed HMG CoA reductase activity, led Goldstein and
Brown to believe that a receptor with high affinity for LDL was involved in the inhibition of
cholesterol synthesis.
When Goldstein and Brown measured HMG CoA reductase activity in FH homozygous fibroblasts
grown in normal serum, they came to the conclusion that HMG CoA reductase activity was not
affected by the presence of LDL in

Sample Kindergarten Classroom Observation
My observation was spent at Bedford Rd School in Pleasantville, New York on January 9th to
13th during my winter break with Mrs. Vecchiariello s kindergarten classroom. The classroom has
two teachers one is a teaching assistant and the other is the teacher of the room. There are 20
children in the classroom with some students with special needs so in the morning the teacher
gives 1/1 help on the side in the room on a table and some get pulled out with a special education
teacher. The kindergarten includes a morning and afternoon snack as well as lunch for each student.
The students were provided a variety of engaging learning experiences and hands on materials.
Those materials included books, writing materials, math related games and manipulatives,... Show

They communicated information in small units, they tie new information into what the children
already knew, and would check for the understanding. At the end of a lesson or unit the teacher
would ask questions or remarks to engage their curiosity as well. For the most part I did not notice
any children having trouble cognitively understanding or problems not being able to focus their
attention.
Mrs. Vecchiariello referred to curriculum framework as she planned her lessons with what she
would do with her children, and the classroom experiences. Mrs. Vecchiariello did not have to
revert back to their curriculum, because she had it memorized from all the years that she has been a
teacher. Both the teacher and teaching assistant sat together when planning and implementing
learning experiences trying to draw on their knowledge of the content, the awareness of what is
likely to interest the children of that age, and to understand the cultural and social context of

Anthrax And Photosynthesis
Anthrax is the disease caused by Bacillus anthracis, it is a gram positive organism because of its
thick peptidologlycon cell wall which stain crystal violet and they are rod shaped. The initial
infection happens when spores get into the body. The spores can be activated and become Anthrax
bacteria .They can then multiply and spread throughout the body producing toxins and causes
severe illness.
Anthrax can be dated back to early 1250 BC it was thought that during Moses time when God
casted the ten plagues that Anthrax was responsible for the fifth plague that caused illness to the
cattle. It was also said that it was in the Iliad, some think that it might have also caused the fall of
Rome. In the 1700s the first clinical descriptions were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then later on he conducted one of his most historic experiments to inject animals with the bacteria
to see how the disease develops. While also conducting this experiment he found out the life
cycle of the bacteria which became Koch s postulates, the relationship between microorganisms
and the diseases caused by it. By the 1800s doctors have seen cases of Anthrax but have not yet
came up with diagnoses of the disease and they haven t found the cause of Anthrax. Wool sorters
disease came about because they saw a link between sheep and the people in animal hair
industries. The mid century researchers have seen rod shaped bodies in blood of infected animals.
The first vaccine was created in 1881 by Louis Pasteur. He experimented with his vaccine by first
giving two shots to twenty five animals of the vaccine then with a weaker form of the bacteria, after
he gave the animals live anthrax. The ones that had the initial vaccination were the ones that
survived, he also gave live Anthrax to animals that haven t had the vaccine those animals did not
survive. Anthrax began to be well documented around the 1900s in the United States, Britain, and

The Impact Of Divorce On Young Adults
The Impact of Divorce on Young Adults
Bridget Cook
Lindenwood University Abstract
This paper explains the factors of parental divorce that have the greatest impact on young adults,
including social support, parental involvement, and the ability of the divorced parents to co parent.
The information in this paper are based on research of three professional journals and one article
from a website. Several studies indicate that young adults have better post divorce outcomes if there
is continued social support, continued quality involvement between parents and children, and if the
divorced parents are able to have a quality co parenting relationship.
Numerous studies have been conducted to determine the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

According to Dr. Constance R. Ahrons, researcher of the Binuclear FamilyStudy, children and
young adults are able to recover from the stress of parental divorce.
For example, on global outcome measures, each concludes that the immediate distress surrounding
parental separation fades with time and that the great majority of adult children (75% 80%) are
functioning as healthy adults. In addition, all reported that divorce presents certain risks, is an
emotionally stressful and complex transition for families, and continues to affect children into
adulthood. (Ahrons, 2007, pg. 55).
Another common finding from the three studies is that the experience of parental divorce itself was
not the key factor producing a negative impact on children but, a lack of parental involvement
resulting from the divorce seemed to be the factor that resulted in negative impact. Negative impact
includes but is not limited to low self esteem, academic difficulty, sexual promiscuity and problems
with developing intimate relationships.
A subsequent study on the impact of divorce on emerging adults conducted by Block Spiegel found
that, Social support moderately predicted self esteem beyond what would expected due to chance.
(Block Spiegel, 2014). Some indicators of social support are parental involvement, financial
support, and quality visitation. These factors were all contributors to higher self esteem in
emerging adults. As social supports

Effects Of Media On Social Media
Media is something that we use, see, and hear every day, whether we notice it or not. The media
surrounds our society in many ways; through social media platforms, magazines, television,
advertisements, etc. the media has been always around. The study of media and its effects on
society is based on the belief that mass communication has effects on individuals, society, and
culture (Perse). The mediacontinues to become more and more relevant in our culture. Many
people in our society today use the media daily. Also, there are many studies about social media
and its effects on us. The media affects the way we view body image in a negative way. The
media has affected people for many years. It has been around since people have been printing
newspapers and broadcasting on the radio. Particularly, the media has an effecton youth and there
are many studies and articles that research how the media affects youth. One example is, in the
article, Social Media and Body Image Concerns: Further Considerations and Broader Perspectives
written by Robert J. Williams and Lina A. Ricciardelli:
Social media are the main form of mass media being used by the youth of today, and researchers in
the U.S. and Australia have commenced studying how these may be affecting body image
concerns. However, the processes underlying how social media may influence young people s
body image appear to be no different from underlying other forms of mass media. Research is
needed to more fully evaluate youth s experiences of online appearance culture and how this may
foster both negative and positive peer interactions (Williams and Ricciardelli 389).
This quote discusses how youth today is affected by the media and their body image. Media has
a direct effect on body image because the media projects unrealistic body goals. This then can
result in people developing anxiety or depression. Also, in some cases, people could develop
eating disorders in order to look like how people in the media are broadcasted. The media has such
a strong influence on people every day since we are always around it. In another article, it states,
Diana Vancura argues that the media emphasize appearance over talent, which negatively affects
the body image

The Canterbury Tales
The Canterbury Tales Corruption in the Church Chaucer lived in a time dictated by religion and
religious ideas in which he uses The Canterbury Tales to show some of his views. Religion
played a significant role in fourteenth century England and also in Chaucer s writing. His ideas
of the Church are first seen in The Prologue, and he uses seven religious persons to show the
influence of the religion in his writing. Although many of his characters appear to portray part of
the corruption in the Church, he does give a small example in which one can conclude that he is
speaking in praise. The Friar, who lived off begging, appears to live a lowly existence, while
Chaucer refers to the papacy in writing, he had a special license from... Show more content on

Chaucer makes forceful insults in his character explication. The Rule of good St. Benet or St.
Maur/ As old and strict he tended to ignore (Chaucer 7.) A monk is supposed to have a strong
authority in the Church, but Chaucer explains that he breaks the written laws and precedents set
by people recognized as Saints and highly acclaimed people. The Monk is a lazy, disgusting man
who lived a dishonest and imprudent life. The Pardoner and Summoner appear together in The
Prologue. They further illustrate an example of Chaucer s awareness of a defiled Church. Chaucer
provides humor to his description of the Summoner in that he d allow just for a quart of wine /Any
good lad to keep a concubine (Chaucer 20.) This means that a person who disobeys the Church
without seeking repentance can easily bribe the Summoner, in that he will overlook the situation.
Chaucer writes about the Pardoner that by his flatteries and prevarication/ Made monkey of the
priest and congregation (Chaucer 22.) This is another direct insult to the Church at the time.
Although the Pardoner represents the lowly side of the Church, Chaucer balances it out with a
highly appraise of the Parson. He appears into the prologue before the Pardoner and the
Summoner, and he clearly is a perfect illustration of the Church, which should be followed over the
other corrupt religious men. Chaucer uses the Parson to show the Church s power and

released from prison and was immediately deported to Jamaica. He continued his political
activism and work in Jamaica and the moved to London in 1935 but didn t command the same
influence he had earlier in his life. Garvey collaborated with outspoken segregationist and white
supremacist while trying to get Senator Theodore Bilbo of Mississippi to promote a reparation
scheme. The Greater Liberia Act of 1939 would deport 12 million African Americans to Liberia
at federal expense to release unemployment. The act failed in Congress, and Garvey lost about
half of his support among the black population. On June 10, 1940 died in London after several

Oj Simpson Case Study
This report will follow the case of Orenthal James O.J. Simpson. Born in San Francisco,
California, July 9th 1947, Simpson is a retired American football player, actor and broadcaster.
On midnight of June 12, 1994, in Los Angeles, California, Ronald Goldman and Nicole Brown
Simpson were discovered murdered outside in the Brentwood area, outside of Nicole Brown s
residence. Wounds were found on the hands of Brown s hands as an attempt of defence, with
multiple stab wounds in the neck and head. The first victim, 35 year old Nicole Brown Simpson,
was a Beverly Hills nightclub, waitress, the Daisy, where she met O.J. Simpson. At the time she
was 18 whilst Simpson was 30. They began living together when she was 19. Married February 2,

Denise Brown, Nicole s sister stated, it was only a week and a half before she died when the
couple broke up. Witnesses had seen a person similar to that of Simpson s figure entering the house,
to only come out, alone leaving behind a glove holding the sufficient evidence, also prior to the
murder Simpson and Brown were having relationship issues, making Simpson the prime suspect
from the beginning.
Of the founded evidence it came to a result of without a doubt Simpson being the murderer of
Nicole Brown and Ronald Goldman. In the afternoon of 12, June, 1994, 2:30pm. A friend of
Brown s, Brian Kato Kaelin, and resident of Simpson s Brentwood estate guest house, converses
with Simpson. Simpson telling Kaelin he and Nicole are no longer together anymore. At 6:30pm,
excluding Simpson, Nicole and nine others eat dinner at Mezzaluna in Brentwood, near Nicole s
condo. Though not waiting on their table, Nicole s friend, Ron Goldman is working at the
establishment. Just after the Houston Rockets and New York Knicks NBA playoff game, Kaelin
sees and talks to Simpson at the estate, at around 6:30 7:00pm. Nicole leaves Mezzaluna at around

Legally Blonde
In the acclaimed 2001 film, Legally Blonde, the main character, Elle Woods, is a fantastic
feminine icon for women. The film represents the struggle females face to prove their abilities.
Remarkably, Elle never succumbs to those who adamantly see her as being foolish and not good
enough. Rather, she pursues her goals with pure confidence. As she states in a meeting with her
UCLA advisor, I don t need back ups, I m going to Harvard. Elle knows she can achieve anything
with hardwork and determination, even if others only respond with dubiety or ridicule. Legally
Blonde has many positive depictions of women and femininity for a 2001 film. Elle exemplifies
how being feminine does not mean you submit to the misogynist notion of submissiveness... Show

Her original motivations, craving to get back her ex boyfriend, Warner, veer to striving to
succeed in law school. What Elle could not see for so long is that Warner does not care about
her. He breaks up with her not because a change of heart, but rather because she s the hot sorority
girl girlfriend he gets to hook up with in undergraduate school, and she is not what he refers to
as the Jackie Kennedy he would marry if he wants to be taken seriously as a politician. Warner s
rationale for proposing to Vivian is the same rationale for why he broke up with Elle. He just
wanted to have the right wife for his political image. Elles mentality completely changes when
she is having a conversation with Warner about school. He disdains her by calling her not smart
enough to qualify for one of the selective internship spots. Elle points out they both got in
Harvard Law and take the same classes. In disbelief and frustration, Elle storms out of the party.
From then forward, she no longer has a desire to get back with Warner, and begins to fully applies
herself to getting an education. The audience sees her newfound determination, as she is reading,
studying, and performing excellent in all of her classes. One of the most prime scenes is an in
class legal debate about a sperm donor s entitlement to a child. Warner argues that a sperm donor
should have entitlement to demand the mother visitation of the child. Elle impressively refutes
Warner s arguments and the professor agrees, announcing to Elle You just won the case. Although it
is indirect, Elle uses her legal competence to debate and win misogynist

  • 2. Pregnancy And Sex In I Love Lucy Lucy, you ve got some splaining to do! If you are anything like me, you can hear Ricky Ricardo s iconic voice and as you express this most quotable line, you are impersonating Mr. Ricky Ricardo. I Love Lucy is one of the most legendary and most famous situation comedies of all time, maintaining its ability to appeal audience even half a century later. The television show follows the life of Lucy Ricardo (Lucille Ball), a goofy woman of the house in the 1950s as she attempts to break into show business. In attempts to do so, Lucy gets herself into crazy situations that she often tries to resolve before her husband, Ricky Ricardo (Desi Arnaz), comes home. This television show has transformed society as a whole. This television show pushed boundaries by having a bi racial romantic relationship on television. In the 1950s, individuals would not have thought that a white woman and a Cuban man would be in a romantic relationship, especially on a television show. When Lucy gets pregnant, this situation is the first depiction of pregnancy on a television show. Pregnancy and sex are topics not often brought up in television shows back in the 1950s. Lucille Ball was not your average American homemaker. She set the platform for the proto feminist lifestyle that us American women live in today. I Love Lucyhas dealt with controversial issues since before the first episode aired on television. The producers at CBS did not believe that viewers would accept that Lucy could be married ... • 7. Successful Open Marriages In Opening Up By Alfred Kinsey Open marriages are a form of relationship first brought into the public eye by Alfred Kinsey in the 1960s. Since then, the idea of approved extra martial affairs have become even more popular, despite the uneducated critics hollering about it being an insult to the institution of marriage, or a way to justify cheating on one s significant other. As open marriages start to become a more feasible option for couples looking to explore their sexuality, a common question always seems to come up; this inquiry, in fact, will be the purpose of the following text. To begin, I use examples from the 2004 biographical film Kinsey, directed by Bill Condon and produced by Gail Mutrux. While integrating discussion from Tristan Taormino and her book Opening Up: A Guide to Sustaining Open Relationships, I introduce the concept of sociosexuality with the help of Lars Penke s Sociosexual Orientation Inventory. In creating discussion with the above names, I aim to demonstrate just what does make for a successful open relationship. In the film Kinsey (Condon Mutrux, 2004), there is a clear divide between what constitutes a successful and unsuccessful open relationship. Alfred Kinsey and his wife Clara Macmillan both engage in extramarital affairs, yet remain close physically, emotionally, and sexually. Alternatively, Clyde Martin (whom, it is worth noting, at one time engaged in an affair with both Kinsey and his wife) starts a fight with another man, Paul Gebhard, after finding out Mrs. ... • 8. The Electric Drive Revolution And Electric Cars Capstone Introduction Paragraph The electric drive revolution will become accepted and advance over time, just like computers and cell phones have over the last few days (anonymous). Electric cars have been around for many years. But they just started coming back around in the 21st century. Before anyone who had charging stations they would have to switch out their battery for their electric car whenever it ran out. The electric cars were created to basically compete with gas powered cars. They were also created to reduce the pollution created by gas cars. Countries all over the world have started to create more and more electric cars. In fact, in this exact moment Japan already has more charging stations than gas stations which could possibly mean that they already have more electric cars than gas cars. The first electric car was created in the early 1900 s by Thomas Edison. People are only starting to go back to electric cars because charging stations were invented. With charging stations in place now people won t have to rely on gas stations and gas powered cars, they will only rely on the more environment friendly charging stations and electric cars. Also with electric cars you have a lot more options to pick from when it comes to batteries to buy and charge. You can use lead acid batteries, zinc air batteries, and many more. Plus using electricity instead of gas is a lot cheaper. With time, gas powered cars will become extinct. Electric cars will continue to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. The Influence Of Ethnic And Ethnic Culture 1: How did sports help create and maintain ethnic and racial identity in this period? Why do you think this happened? Be sure to include Moses Fleetwood Walker as one of the individuals in your discussion. There was a great many ways in which sports helped to form and keep ethnic and racial identities during the time frame. Some ethnic groups used their culture s sports, and the clubs they formed, in order to resist assimilation into American culture thus keeping their own country s ethnic culture intact. While some groups made the choice to maintain their ethnic culture rather than integrate it with America s larger culture, others had no say in the matter. The group that comes to mind are the African American people. Contrary to European clubs that tended to fight inclusion African Americans wished to be integrated into the American culture but were denied due to systemic racism spanning across the country. Even when they were allowed to participate in sports it wasn t for long. Take Moses Fleetwood Walker for instance, he was one of the first African Americans to play professional baseball because another team s player manager refused to play games with an African American (Gems 145). One of the few real sports avenues left for African Americans was the sport of boxing and even that was rife with racism. The only reason Africans were even allowed to participate because white spectators enjoyed watching the brutalization of blacks (Gems 145). It s no wonder that in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The more familiar we are with our inner terrain, the more sure footed our [work] and living becomes. P. J. Palmer (cited in Skovholt, T. M., 2001). The pursuit for self awareness or self understanding is a chief factor of valuable reflective practice. • 12. The Sport Of Boxing And Sports Millions and millions of people are part of some kind of sport worldwide. Many sports require more than one person in the team such as soccer and basketball. In the other hand there are sports that are exercised with only two persons, which are the opponents. Many times spectators just watch these sports but never think, much less, experience the challenges that athletes face. In the sport of boxingthere are many effects psychologically that boxers face every time they set there feet on a ring. In life people go to college so that with their education one day they can get a well paying career. Similar to this example people are in the sport of boxing so that with a combination of their hard work and talent they can achieve something in life. Some other reasons to why people box is to prove to themselves of what they are capable of doing as well as for the fame. Once a boxer goes professional and starts to beat their opponents then, that is when media starts to get ahold of them. Companies such as HBO, an American premium cable and satellite television network, then start to sponsor boxers. Once boxers start to get sponsored then that is when they start earning seven digit incomes. According to forbes.com, a leading online media company, Floyd Mayweather (professional boxer), will be paid $200 million dollars for this current year (2015.) Mayweather is the best paid athlete in the world, which only translates to the amount of money a boxer can earn if he becomes famous. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Cases that make it to the supreme courts are cases that have been heard and decided from lower courts at the State level. Which cases get picked? For the Judges to actually hear the case 4 of the 9 justices have to agree to hear the case. The Supreme Court does not have the time to hear every case because of time and resource constraints. • 16. Interventions Of Separation Anxiety Disorder Interventions of Separation Anxiety Separation anxiety disorder (SAD) is one of the most common anxiety disorders in preadolescent children and can cause serious distress in a child s life. Having separation anxiety disorder in childhood can significantly increase the chances of internalizing problems and other anxiety disorders. Unfortunately, because separation anxiety is common in children it is hard to determine if the behaviors the children are displaying are atypical. Although there are various types of treatment options for SAD, parent child interaction therapy (PCIT) can be extremely helpful particularly in the school system as teachers can adopt the same techniques using teacher child interaction therapy (TCIT). Therefore, the child is not only receiving treatment at home, their treatment is consistent at school. PCIT has proved to be an efficient and popular treatment for SAD, which will be outlined and confirmed in this paper through analysis of PCIT and TCIT. Parent Child Interaction Therapy PCIT focuses on the idea that improving the parent child interaction will lead to improvements in child and family s functioning (Pincus, Eyberg, Choate, 2005) that have been impaired due to SAD. Parent s responses to their child s anxiety allows for the continuation of the disorder. PCIT teaches parents new response methods and improves attachment in result that the child will be able to separate without distress. There are two phases to Parent Child Interaction ... To be so close to winning one of the most recognized awards at the age of 86, further proves his significance in the literary canon. Frost was so important to the literary world that Poet Society of America named an award after him. The Robert Frost Medal is awarded to poets for their distinguished lifetime achievement in American poetry ( Frost ). In 1960 Frost was presented with the Congressional Gold Medal, which is the highest award an American civilian can win. President John F. Frost recited The Gift Outright but because his vision was begging to fail he had to memorize the poem. This shows just how popular Frost was, and how well respect he was too. The health component of health evangelism contains information regarding the risks associated with unhealthy living and provides behavior change strategies designed to correct bad habits and addictions. The evangelistic component of health evangelism introduces people to Jesus. Jesus provides the power to change. This is true in the physical realm as well as in the spiritual realm. In America, we see a war amongst ourselves with racism, discrimination, and hate crime. These wars seem meaningless, and reveal that humans have an ingrained yearning for violence. While reading the novels Beowulf, told from the perspective of a hero, and Grendel, told from the perspective of the monster, the innately violent nature of humans becomes apparent. Throughout Beowulfand Grendel, killing and warare common themes. Both novels feature violent scenes that show the cruel nature of humans. In Grendel, the humans attack because they feel unsure about Grendel s motives and uneasy by his scary appearance. When the humans went to war, they often expressed joy and would hold parties to congratulate themselves for killing others (Heaney 35). Throughout the novel, Beowulf doings [of murder] were praised over and over again (Heaney 57) by the citizens of his city. The positive response to these brutal acts demonstrates the human wanting for violence. History demonstrates mans violent tendencies. Jeffrey Goldstein, a psychologist at Temple University, says that We write and teach our history in terms of violent events, marking time by wars (Kohn 1). Well 5 was a shallow well, and all of the water drawn from the well came from a very shallow area. This water was drawn from an area of highly fractured bedrock. This fracturing, and the geological nature of the surrounding bedrock, made it possible for surface bacteria to quickly enter into the fractured rock (O Connor, 2002, pp.166). The water distribution system in Walkerton included 41.5 km of water mains as well as two standpipes, which provided water storage and pressure equalization for the system. It is estimated that in the Walkerton system, between 33 and 35 locations were dead ends. However, not everyone chooses to exercise these rights or even fully understands how to use them properly. Voting is not as simple as just going to a ballot box and checking the box for the person whom had the most signs and television commercials. Being a voter means that one has an influence over the government and who makes important decisions regarding the nation or state. However, if one does not know all of the details about who they are voting for, they could be voting blindly. It is important to do research and make factual decisions about who should be elected. If one is not fully informed, than the less suitable candidate could be elected into office due to a lack of information. • 34. The Trouble With Wilderness By Cronon People in the US have assigned many different meanings to wilderness. Wilderness can be viewed as a nonhuman world where we can go to survive and escape reality. Wilderness is an unexplored land that can mean something entirely different for every individual. For many Americans, wilderness stands as the last remaining place where we can go and have fun. In America today, people go to the wild, to party and enjoy their weekend. I ve come to realize that everyone s perspective of wildernesscomes from media, stories and their personal experiences. There are two views: one that it is a solution to our problematic relationships while others reason that it s a place where we can go insane. Wilderness in fact has been seen as a place of youth and childhood, in which we can abandon our past. In William s Cronon article, The Trouble with Wilderness he talks about how we escape to the wilderness to forget our past. Cronon states, Seen as the bold landscape of frontier heroism, it is the place of youth and childhood, into which men escape by abandoning their pasts and entering a world of freedom where the constraints of civilization fade into memory (Cronon 427). This quote is a great representation of how we can see wilderness as a place of escape because we enter a world of freedom that fade away our problems. The wild is important to have because it s the last remaining place where we can turn to escape from our own too muchness. When we enter the wild we are free with no customs to follow. The wild allows us to be less responsible and free to venture away from society. This quote has a great connection with my perspective because it s saying that it s a place of renewal, relaxation and peace. Therefore, wilderness is a place of refuge. No matter in what perspective we see it, wilderness offers us a refuge that we can use to escape the cares and troubles of the world, in which our past has trapped us ... Over the years, pitbulls have gained a bad rep for pets. People often say they are the choice of drug dealers, and other bad folks for a reason. They say this because pitbulls are often documented for attacks, and being danger to their communities. Do you agree? I don,t. To me, it makes no sense to why they are bad pets. Just because they can attack doesn t mean they are all a danger, or a hazard. Here is why I think that. One reason is that they can help and warn people. A thing that a lot of people don t understand is that pitbulls are very loyal to their owner. That is why they are often guard dogs. Because of their loyalty, they have helped in the military. In the early 1900s, there was a pitbull named Stubby who became a military hero for warning the soldiers of a gas leak that could have killed them. He saved many lives that day. From an early age, these individuals are at high risk for atherosclerosis and heart disease. Heterozygous FH individuals are also at risk for these diseases, albeit to a much lesser degree. Because the FH mutation also caused the disease in heterozygous individuals, Goldstein and Brown began with the assumption that FH was the result of a defect in regulation of cholesterol synthesis. Discovery of the LDL Receptor Goldstein and Brown began their work by measuring the activity of 3 hydroxy 3 methylglutaryl coenzyme A reductase (HMG CoA reductase), which catalyzes the rate limiting step in cholesterol production. Goldstein and Brown found that when normal fibroblasts were grown in serum, HMG CoA reductase activity was low. Additionally, they found that when cholesterol carrying lipoproteins was removed from the culture medium, HMG CoA reductase activity increased by a large margin. Furthermore, they observed that HMG CoA reductase activity was suppressed when LDL was reintroduced to the medium. This inhibition of HMG CoA reductase by LDL, and the fact that low concentrations of LDL suppressed HMG CoA reductase activity, led Goldstein and Brown to believe that a receptor with high affinity for LDL was involved in the inhibition of cholesterol synthesis. When Goldstein and Brown measured HMG CoA reductase activity in FH homozygous fibroblasts grown in normal serum, they came to the conclusion that HMG CoA reductase activity was not affected by the presence of LDL in ... In addition, all reported that divorce presents certain risks, is an emotionally stressful and complex transition for families, and continues to affect children into adulthood. Another common finding from the three studies is that the experience of parental divorce itself was not the key factor producing a negative impact on children but, a lack of parental involvement resulting from the divorce seemed to be the factor that resulted in negative impact. Negative impact includes but is not limited to low self esteem, academic difficulty, sexual promiscuity and problems with developing intimate relationships. The media affects the way we view body image in a negative way. The media has affected people for many years. It has been around since people have been printing newspapers and broadcasting on the radio. Particularly, the media has an effecton youth and there are many studies and articles that research how the media affects youth. One example is, in the article, Social Media and Body Image Concerns: Further Considerations and Broader Perspectives written by Robert J. Williams and Lina A. Ricciardelli: Social media are the main form of mass media being used by the youth of today, and researchers in the U.S. and Australia have commenced studying how these may be affecting body image concerns. However, the processes underlying how social media may influence young people s body image appear to be no different from underlying other forms of mass media. Research is needed to more fully evaluate youth s experiences of online appearance culture and how this may foster both negative and positive peer interactions (Williams and Ricciardelli 389). This quote discusses how youth today is affected by the media and their body image. Media has a direct effect on body image because the media projects unrealistic body goals. This then can result in people developing anxiety or depression. Also, in some cases, people could develop eating disorders in order to look like how people in the media are broadcasted. The Monk is a lazy, disgusting man who lived a dishonest and imprudent life. The Pardoner and Summoner appear together in The Prologue.
