3.Ministry of Environmental Protection (2009)
1.Asian Development Bank (ADB) (Andrews YnМѓiguez, 2004)
This study on Water in Asian Cities provides information on water supplyand sanitation utilities in
18 Asian cities. The efforts of collecting the data for the period of 2001 2002 were made by the
domestic consultants, the report was then released in 2004. A range of performance indicators
were used in the data book in order to evaluate the performance of water utilities. In Table 3, it
displays the set of performance indicators that used in the water utilities data book and also shows
how they were computed from various formulas.

Arther Miller
Come along as an adventure through time takes launch. From the interim of Arthur Miller s birth
and death, he wrote some of America s greatest plays which are known all around the world. This
world renowned screenwriter and playwright is arguably considered the best playwright of the
20th century. We start our journey here on October 17, 1915 in Harlem, New York where Miller
was born. Arther Miller was the son of Isidore and Augusta, a Polish and Jewish Immigrant family
who owned a flourishing manufacturing business. The miller family got hit hard during the Wall
Street Crash of 1929 nearly losing everything. Arther Miller worked hard after he graduated high
school, so he would be able to pay for his collage tuition at the University of Michigan. It was at
Michigan that he wrote his first play, No Villain. This play won him the school s Avery Hopwood
Award and sparked the beginning of his successful career as a playwright. The beginning of Miller
s playwright career came out with a boom with, All My Sons, which debuted on Broadway in
1947. This play won Miller his first of many Tony Awards. His next

This play did ensue some political trouble against when he was brought to appear before the
House of Un American Activities Committee for the play allegory with McCarthyism.
McCarthyism is the act of making false accusations without showing the proper evidence. Miller
denied to follow any of the committee s orders. Again in 1957, Brooks Atkinson wrote about
millers stand: He refused to be an informer. He refused to turn his private conscience over to
administration by the state. He has accordingly been found in contempt of Congress. That is the
measure of the man who has written these high minded plays. This ruling was capsized by
Congress two years after the debate started in 1956, so the debate only lasting for an ephemeral

Funk Carioca Research Paper
By 1989, DJ Marlboro, an essential pioneer in the genre of funk carioca music, released his first
album Funk Brasil which contained Portuguese covers of popular Miami bass songs (Filho 229).
Funk Brasil went on to be so successful that Brazilian media outlets began to report on the
explosive trajectory of funk carioca. Thus, the genre was truly became familiar to the public eye
by the early 90s (Filho 229). Popular nightclubs for middle class Brazilians began to host special
nights dedicated to funk carioca while radio stations played an active role in promoting Brazilian
funk festivals and playing recordings from baile funks across the city of Rio de Janeiro(Filho 230).
Overall, the representation of funk carioca was fairly neutral until 1992 (Filho 229). That year, a
group of young criminals known as arrastГЈos were arrested on a beach in the south side of Rio de
Raneiro. The local news carried the story and depicted images of social disorder as teenage
gangs fought amongst each other (Filho 230). As a response, funk carioca, the cultural expression
of slums and trademark of the youth from Rio de Janeiro s favelas, was highlighted in the media
as a key source to the malfeasance of the poor youth (Filho 230). The arrastГЈos at the beach were
identified as funkieros who promot[ed] violence very similar to that of organized... Show more

Of course, violent and sexually explicit lyrics are present in many funk carioca songs. However, it
would be far too simplistic to reduce the genre to these sole characteristics. The genre has a
legitimate significance to Brazilian youths living in favelas and is much more than laughably crude
cartoonish lyrics. The exoticization of funk carioca is particularly dangerous because it merely
presents the genre as void, vulgar music and strips Brazilian funk of its cultural significance to the
residents of Brazilian

Obamacare Persuasive Essay
Several of us are watching the news right now waiting to see if Senate Majority Leader Mitch
McConnell and Congress get the 50 out of 52 votes to repeal legislation and to begin the
Obamacare debate. After the votes are counted the debate will start for Obamacare to be repealed
or to not be repealed. Obamacare, also known as Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, was
signed in March 2010 by Obama to Include multiple provisions that would take effect over a matter
of years, including the expansion of Medicaid eligibility, the establishment of health insurance
exchanges and prohibiting health insurers from denying coverage due to pre existing conditions.
( Affordable ). Therefore, this debate will show what Obamacare does for the people of the U.S,
what will replace Obamacare if it is repealed, and if it is worth all the hassle of repealing and
replaces it with Trump Care or to not replace it. Obamacare should not be repealed because
several Americans are relying on Obamacare s cost assistance to afford health care. Many
citizens often ask each other, What is Obamacare? To be quite honest, not many people could
explain to each other what Obamacare is. The main goal of Obamacare is to give access to more
affordable health insurance and to reduce the growth of overall spending on health care in the
U.S (DeMichele, What is Obamacare? ). Obamacare may seem like every other bill that can be
repealed or replaced but it is not. Citizens lean on Obamacare to give them the

The Causes Of The Cuban Missile Crisis
The Cuban Missile Crisis In the fall of 1962, the world sat on edge for thirteen days as the
prospect of a nuclear war between the United States and The Soviet Union became more and more
legitimate. In October of 1962, an American spy plane discovered nuclear missile launch sites being
built by the Soviet Unionin Cuba, which rests only ninety miles south of Florida. The US went on
to impose a naval blockade of Cuba, making sure that no more nuclear weapons were imported
into Havana (Lebow 2000). President John F. Kennedy was tasked with the duty to remove the
nuclear missiles from Cuba while preventing a catastrophic and deadly nuclear war. Nikita
Khrushchev, the leader of the Soviet Union, longed to be seen as the powerful and authoritative
figure that would be able bring the Soviet Union to equal levels of political, military, and social
prominence as the United States. Ultimately, Khrushchev sought to maintain his political and
military power and influence, and not backing down from the all powerful United States and John
F. Kennedy demonstrated to his colleagues that he meant business. Similarly, President Kennedy
was seeking re election in November of 1962, only a month after the rising tensions. In order to
be re elected, Kennedy recognized his need to make up for the failures of the Bay of Pigs and the
Vienna Summit and Kennedy became eager to improve his current poor reputation and show the
world, and more importantly US voters, his strong willed resolve. (Lebow

The Gps Technology
THE GPS TECHNOLOGY INTRODUCTION Throughout time people have developed a variety
of ways to figure out their position on earth and to navigate from one place to another. Early
mariners relied on angular measurements to celestial bodies like sun and stars to calculate their
location. The 1920s witnessed the introduction of more advanced technique radio navigation
based at first on radios that allowed navigators to locate the direction of shore based transmitters
when in range. Later development of artificial satellites made possible the transmission of more
precise, line of sight radio navigation signals and sparked a new era in navigation technology.
Satellites are first used in position finding in a simple but reliable 2D Navy... Show more content on

The satellite signals are further processed by data processor of the navigation set to demodulate
the data and then decode it to get the user s 3D position coordinates. The GPS receivers are used
for navigation, positioning, aviation, shipping, geology and other purposes. WORKING
Consider the case of a lightning followed by a thunder. A few seconds after seeing the lightning
we hear the thunder. If we know the time taken for the sound waves to travel from the lightning
place to the listener, we can calculate the distance between the listener and the lightning place.
Similar principle is used in the working of GPS. The GPS system works by determining how long
it takes a radio signal transmitted from a satellite to reach a land based receiver and then, using
that time to calculate the distance between the satellite and the Earth station receiver. Radio waves
travel at approximately the speed of light, 3x108 m/s. if a receiver can determine exactly when a
satellite began sending a radio signal and exactly when the signal was received, then it can
determine the propagation time. From propagation time, the receiver can determine the distance
between it and the satellite using the mathematical relationship d = v Г— t Where d =

You boys are laughing now, but do you think getting suspended is funny? Huh? He looked
around at the worried faces, I don t want to see you teasing Oliver again, and no violence must be
permitted on school grounds. Do I make myself clear? No one answered. Do I make myself
clear? He repeated. Yes the boys all said in sync. Oliver, you may go back to lunch, everyone else
stay, Principal Walker waited for him to leave the room, Boys, I m very disappointed in all of
you, but I have to assign a two day suspension, from september 11, to september 12. Before Adam
could remember anything more from yesterday, his father hurried him passed the door. Adam
planned out what he was going to do. Instead of telling his father about the suspension, he was
going to walk towards the bus stop, but keep walking straight all the way to Rite Aid. Now that
Adam had the plan he had to put it in action. His father waved him goodbye, and went inside to
get ready for work, at the New York Fire Department. Adam read Fulton Street at the top of his
neighborhood. He turned back to see if his father went inside, which he did. Adam s watch had
the time 8:23a.m. , so his bus would be arriving around 2 minutes. Adam walked right past where
he usually gets picked up, and looked up at the clear blue sky, What a beauty, he thought, admiring

Ancient Christian Beliefs
Ancient Christian beliefs about Death and the Afterlife:
Most Romans during this time believed in many different gods and where known as polytheists.
Christianity in Rome started as an illegal act of rebellion against the popular belief of more than
one god or the gods. Christian believed in one god and that Jesus, a man who was gathering a large
following around 30AD, was the son of their one god. The followers of Jesus became known as
Christians. Christians spread the word of their God all around, teaching that peoples sins would be
forgiven if they became Christian. People all around the empire responded to the idea of Christian
salvation. Christianity quickly became the blame for most of Rome s problems due to them
turning away from worshiping the gods to worshiping only one, causing emperor of the time
Nero to begin persecuting Christians as he believed they were making the gods angry. Many
Romans believed that the empire was facing hardship due to the ever expanding group of
Christians. Romans of lower social ranking were more likely to convert into a Christian as one of
Christianity s key beliefs was that everyone was equal, so a social ranking system was of no ...

started to be buried in catacombs that where located on land controlled by church. Inside there

ventilation inside. The most common way of disposing of the body after death or most
commonly practised was inhumation/burial. The body would be lower into a grave, usually on

the way it is buried had no relation to what happened to the soul thereafter as it was guaranteed

accurate and reliable because looking at the graph there are no completely out of place results,
there are a few that do not fit with the line of best fit very well but ecology is very hard to get
perfect as you cannot make the environment do what you want to do. Some of the light
measurements may not be accurate because when we did the experiment the light was changing
and was very unpredictable, sometimes the sun would go behind a cloud which meant the light
measurement would be low when actually most

Celia, a Slave Essay
Celia, a Slave is the epitome of the relationship between slaves and their owners and also the
slaves and other whites in the 1850 s. This is based on her interactions with her owner Robert
Newsom and her reactions mainly with the community involved in her court case. These
relationships affected more so the women slaves rather than the men slaves because of their
weaker nature as perceived by the sexual differences of the time period between men and women in
general. Slaveryis questioned by the morals of the Northerners and some Southerners though it is
common in the South so most Southerners reinforce the ideas of slavery with their own morals,
believing slaves as meaningless because of their difference. Celia was bought by Robert... Show

Though her story was that of defense from her master: she had acted alone, struck her master to
stop his advances, and had not intentionally killed him, Missouri s pre Civil War court system
was unable to protect her claims because she was a slave and they were unwilling to change
their beliefs about slaves and how they should be viewed and treated in society. (as proved
previously in the case Dred Scott vs. Sandford.) These were the most frequent reactions of the
Southerners; however a man named John Jameson took her side and defended her and her
actions toward Robert Newsom as acts of defense against his advances, and claimed she had the
right, by law, to use deadly force to protect herself against rape, regardless of her previous sexual
relations with him. Though, because of the southerners hate of the slaves and their desire to treat
them as inferiors, they did not deliver the evidence necessary to acquit her for her crime. Having
lost the trial, Celia s attorneys filed a motion to request a new trial on October 11th. However, Judge
Hall denied the motion on October 13th and Celia was sentenced to be hung on November 16th.
She was given this time before being executed to birth her child, as law stated that pregnant women
could not be executed. This shows that there is a bit of equality between women when dealing with
court systems at this time,

The Writer in the Family
Pain Shown Through Symbolism
How does one show his or her pain? Jonathan s agony from the death of his father is
shown throughout The Writer in the Family by utilizing symbolism. To Jonathan, it s as if his
father did not die a complete death and that haunts him. This pain is shown in a unique way
throughout the story. Jonathan, as he tells this first person narrative, does not come right out and
put words to his feelings concerning his father. At the start of the story Jonathan plainly states
that his father died in 1955 and he explains the situation of how Jonathan s aunts on his dad s
side choose not to tell Jonathan s grandmother about his father s passing, but he does not reveal
the sorrow resulting from the death ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jonathan then tells his mother that the suit is too big, since the sense of his father in
the jacket scares him. As with the symbol of a missing headstone, this image of Jonathan feeling
a little part of his father in the suit because of the lingering scent of his father, again shows how
Jonathan has not really come to accept his father s death. This symbol suggests a presence of
his father from which he has not freed himself ( Writer ). He has not been able to do so since
he is forced to keep the image of his father alive by writing letters pretending to be his father. In
the story, Jonathan does not come right out and explain his inner conflict due to the passing of
father, but instead he describes himself being uncomfortable while trying on his father s suits, to
address his conflict. Also, Jonathan s inner conflict stems deeper into the person that he will
become. Jonathan s discomfort and his sense of being less than his father are represented by his
uneasy feeling when he tries on his father s too large suit jacket (Heims 275). A suit jacket too
large for Jonathan symbolizes that Jonathan does not feel that he is living up to his father, and it
suggest his fear of being less than his father was. Being less than the man his father was, when
he was still living, scares Jonathan, readdressing the character s pain. In all, it is evident of

The Enchanted Bluff Essay example
The Enchanted Bluff
The Enchanted Bluff , by Willa Cather, takes place in the bare cornfields of Nebraska during the
early 1900 s where only rivers liven up the landscape. Six boys delve into the idea of a city on
top of a bluff in the desert, they become captivated with the idea of visiting the bluff. The boys
eagerly discuss ways of dominating this mystifying bluff: throwing up a ladder, or using a rocket.
All the boys vow to get to the bluff some day. Twenty years pass and none visit it. One of the
young boys tells the story to his son and his son thinks of nothing else but the bluff. The author
does an excellent job of providing vivid imagery throughout the story, which helps the read to
capture a real sense of the town. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The reader gets a sense of how the boys lived when Cather mentions how, Tip worked hard in his
father s grocery store every afternoon, and swept it out before school in the morning, even his
recreations were laborious (Cather 413). When reading Cather s works, there is a feeling that she
taught the best of all philosophies, that of love, hard work, and courage (Wells) . Through the
tone of this story, the reader easily senses that this old fashioned town run with hard work and
honesty is careless. The author does an excellent job of describing individuals in the town such
as, Percy Pound who took half a dozen boys story papers and was always kept in reading
detective stories behind the desk (Cather 413). Cather s writing style shows an unhampered zest
for enjoyment (Wells). The reader gets the feeling that the character Percy Pound is a young laid
back inquisitive boy who likes adventures. Willa Cather not only uses local color to show
descriptions of the characters in the story but also in conveying the setting.
Willa Cather provides vivid imagery throughout the story to set the relaxed tone. The reader
imagines a very descriptive portrait of the boys hometown when the story mentions how the
oblique rays of the light made a dazzling glare on the white sand about us (Cather 411). Realities
and fantasies...her art is a method of preserving the wonder of youthful happiness (Wells). When
reading this Willa Cather paints a vivid portrait of where the six

He further states that this type of learning procedure is more reassuring for children who wants to
know what is taking place in an activity, task or routine.
Consequently, research carried out by Ahissar, (2004) has also suggested that many children learn
better when they have pictures to help them. This is as a lot of children are visual learners, which
means they learn by seeing things rather than listening. This resource hence assists children who
may suffer from anxiety which is mostly due to them being new to the setting or them not being
able to understand routines. Lewalter, (2003) has stated that a visual routine is required as many
children learn better when they are supported with photographic images, this is as they tend to
mainly be visual learners. Therefore, visual routine can maximise a child s strengths to develop in
areas that they find more difficult.
This resource as a result links to the Early Years Foundation Stage, (EYFS) (2008). The area of the
EYFS that this creative resource address is Communication and Language development. as it

Circles Of Context
Usually when I am told to read a verse in the Bible, I just read that verse and using the
information that specific verse provided, I take a guess at what that verse is saying or explaining.
Little did I know that because I was reading just one verse alone, I was probably misinterpreting it.
The circles of context were invented to help with this problem. We first look at the immediate text,
then we can look at the rest of the book, now we can look at the introductions of this book and
others by the same author. Then, we can look throughout the same testament to see if any other
information relates, and finally we can look into other testaments. By understanding the circles of

As described in the question store summarized this data into single score by multiplying the number
of responses by number assigned. With this procedure, they got mean value of 3.19. Which lies
between the 3 unsure and 4 agree.
With which store manager will conclude that response is mild agreement or small unsure.
This is not correct interpretation of data. As this argument relies on assumption that psychological
distance between agreement and strong agreement is same as in agreement and unsure. Which is
not correct as the responses can also be distorted on psychological attitudes. To put it in simple

a). Gender Requires one of two responses male or female
From this question, we will get Nominal data. Because it has two possible values male or female.
We can count no. of males and females but both doesn t have their actual values neither we can
compare them to each other i.e. we can t say that male has higher value than female. But we can
say no. of males are less than or greater than no. of females.
b. Fahrenheit thermometers
Collects values representing temperatures in Fahrenheit
Collected values representing temperatures in Fahrenheit(F) is an Interval Data. As in the terms of
temperature there is fixed interval. As difference between 1F and 3F is same as in 22F and 24F.
However, we cannot say that 5F is half than 10F because there is no absolute zero in temperature.
Temperature can increase to infinity as well as decrease to infinity in Fahrenheit.
c. Kelvin thermometers Collects values representing temperatures in Kelvin
Collected values representing temperature in kelvin(k) is a Ratio Data. Because in terms of
kelvin temperature there is fixed intervals and as well as absolute zero. As there is absolute zero
in kelvin temperature we can say that 5 degrees is half hot as compared to 10 degrees.
d. The number of items a customer buys
In whole numbers
It is also a ratio Data because there can be a customer buying no item. So, there can be an absolute
zero. Moreover, we can also say that 5 items are half of 10

With this lesson in mind, I joined the Phi Delta Theta fraternity, which deepened my friendships
and enthusiasm for service. Through Phi Delta Theta, I also had a chance to meet passionate
University of Akron alumni who deepened my commitment to the Akron community. I also sought
out internships earlier than most students in my field, and was able to complete two before entering
my senior year. During the summer following my sophomore year, I was honored to have the
opportunity to complete an internship with the J.M. Smucker Company. More recently, I completed
an internship with Ernst Young, LLP, one of the four largest professional services firms in the
world, where I will be working full time upon graduation. I would not have had the knowledge or
the confidence to pursue these opportunities without the mentoring I received through the Williams
Honors College.
Though the Williams Honors College had a tremendous impact on my undergraduate days, I am
very excited about how it will impact my future. The Honors College has deepened my
commitment to the University of Akron and the greater Akron community. Though neither of my
parents are from Akron, they moved me here when I was two years old. Akron is my home and
my time at the University has secured my roots. I am appreciative of everything the Williams
Honors College has given me, and I cannot wait to give some of that back to the University of

Discussion Research On Parent Involvement Essay
Prior Research on Parent Involvement in Education
Before turning to our qualitative study of parent involvement in urban char
ter schools, the following sections outline the prior research on the benefits of parent involvement,
the barriers to involvement that exist, and the potential of the charter school context to reduce these
barriers.
Benefits of Parent Involvement
Decades of research point to the numerous benefits of parent involvement in education for not only
students but also for the parents involved, the school, and the wider community (Barnard, 2004;
Epstein, 2001; Fan Chen, 2001;
Henderson Mapp, 2002; Jeynes, 2003, 2007; Lee Bowen, 2006). De
spite the challenges in establishing a causal link between parent involvement and student
achievement, studies utilizing large databases have shown positive and significant effects of parent
involvement on both academic and behavioral outcomes (Fan Chen, 2001; Jeynes, 2003, 2007). For
example, research has found that parent involvement is related to a host of student achievement indi
cators, including better grades, attendance, attitudes, expectations, homework completion, and state
test results (Astone McLanahan, 1991; Cancio, West,
Young, 2004; Dearing, McCartney, Weiss, Kreider, Simpkins, 2004; Gut
man Midgley, 2000; Izzo, Weissberg, Kasprow, Fendrich, 1999; Senechal
LeFevre, 2002; Sheldon, 2003). Additional academic outcomes such as lower dropout rates
(Rumberger, 1995), fewer

Ways To Properly Form Feminist Theory
The Methods to the Madness: Ways to Properly Form Feminist Theories Feminist research
centralizes around a search for gendered justice. As a rejection of standard masculine
methodological models, with their assumed objectivity and detachment, feminist approaches have
been designed to recognize the subjects of research as well as the place of the researcher in the
production of knowledge. In order to best account for gendered justice across a multitude of
intersectional women, feminists require methodologies to ensure proper knowledge creation, data
collection, and critical analysis to ensure the resulting methods are wide reaching. Many feminist
writers have thought about the best way to develop such methodologies. By examining the works...

She begins her work Justice and the Politics of Difference, through examining the constraints
within the definition of injustice: oppression and domination. Her goal is to place these words,
particularly oppression, within the discourse of the social structures in America. No two groups
suffer in the same ways, yet they share a commonality in their inability to exercise their needs
and meet their capabilities or their oppression (40). Young presses that this oppression must be
viewed in a way that analyzes the condition of human practices and their conscious actions.
Young continues by defining social groups, aggregate, and associations. Social groups are
collectives of persons differentiated from other groups by cultural forms, practices, or ways of
life. Aggregates are classification of people according to attributes, and associates are formally
organized institutions (43 44). Groups through these only exist in relation to other groups. These
groups arise from a common oppression or their identity has to be pointed out by outside groups.
Young then provides her particular methodology for defining a group as oppressed. These criteria
are exploitation, marginalization, powerlessness, cultural imperialism, and violence. She says
that only one of these criteria must be met in order for a group to be considered oppressed. This
oppression criteria must be utilized on the basis of comparison for groups, yet avoids a hierarchy
of oppression through saying that all groups are suffering and are united in their mutual oppression.
She moves intersectionally to show the basis of comparison for these groups and their overlapping
struggles. This method is another example of the way that a feminist theorist can classify levels of
suffering for marginalized

Reaction Paper On Jurisprudence
Introduction: To understand the topic of philosophy of law first we have to understand what is
law? Law is nothing but a group or collection of some rules that regulates and control society or
country. Every country has different rules and laws. Like in India we drive a vehicle on the left
side of the road but in America we drive a vehicle on the right side of the road. There are also
some international laws like if you do any bad thing then you will be punished. Laws control human
behaviours. They restrict human to do bad things. Law is also important for equality, justice and
fairness.
Now we have developed some sense about what is law? Now look about the philosophy of law.

What is jurisprudence?
Jurisprudence:
Jurisprudence is the study of law. Scholars in jurisprudence try to obtain a deeper understanding
of laws of nature, legal laws and legal institutions. Jurisprudence tries to seek, analyze, explain and
classify the entire body of law. Jurisprudence is the science or philosophy of law. Jurisprudence
creates a body of law, methods for interpreting the law, studies the relationship between law and
society, predicts the effect of legal decisions. We can divide jurisprudence into two parts: (i) analytic
jurisprudence and (ii) normative jurisprudence.
Analytic jurisprudence:
Analytic jurisprudence is the branch of the legal philosophy. The principal objective of analytic
jurisprudence is to find the reasons that are differentiates laws as a system of norms from the
other system of norms as ethical norms. It provides sufficient conditions that distinguish law from
the non law. It attempts to analyze the laws and legal systems. Analytic jurisprudence is a legal
theory that tries to understand the laws of nature. It deals about the basic questions of law. Like
what is a law? What are laws? What is the relationship between law and power? What is the
relationship between law and morality? There are three theories of law that fall under analytic
jurisprudence (i) natural law theory, (ii) legal positivism and (iii) Ronald dworkin s

Analysis Of Ender s Game By Orson Scott Card
Ender s Game is a science fiction novel written by Orson Scott Card and was published on
January 15, 1985. The story follows Andrew (Ender) Wiggin, a genius boy who is chosen to
attend Battle School in hopes of being the savior of humanity against the alien buggers. Ender s
journey from an outcast into a commander seems to follow the steps of Joseph Campbell s hero s
journey. Joseph Campbell was a writer who discovered after studying stories, religions, and
mythologies, noticed similar themes and structures and wrote The Hero With A Thousand Faces
(later renamed the hero s journey ). The Hero s Journey described the steps he observed when
reading about heroic journeys. The hero s journey is made up of several phases such as an unusual...

he was a Third. It was the government s idea, they were the ones who authorized it how else
could a Third like Ender have got into school? And now the monitor was gone. The experiment
entitled Andrew Wiggin hadn t worked out at all. If they could, he was sure they would like to
rescind the waivers that he had allowed to be born at all. (Card 5). The second stage of a hero s
journey is the call to adventure. Something happens that calls the hero away from their everyday
life and into their quest. For Ender, it was when Graff showed up at the Wiggin s home in chapter
three. The removal of Ender s monitor turned out to be the I.F s final test to see how Ender handled
situations without the aid. Graff arrives at the Wiggin residence to deliver the news and invites
Ender to attend Battle School to commence his training. It takes a bit to sway him but he ultimately
agrees stating that he was in fact born for the sole purpose. He leaves holding Colonel Graff s hand
and Valentine crying for him to return to her. The two steps of crossing the threshold and the
challenges and trials fuse together during the story. Ender crosses the threshold during the fourth
chapter Launch, when he along with nineteen other boys begin their journey to battle school.
Already he is faced with a challenge. The two unknown figures open up the fourth chapter

Growing Up For My Life
Growing up for me wasn t always easy, I mean I ve never been one to complain but I can also
face the reality of knowing I ve had many struggles throughout my life. From the beginning,
when I was two years old my dad walked out on my mother, my sister, and me. When I was
younger I never knew the reason why and I thought it was normal to not have a dad since I never
really had one. In reality, my mom had to go through struggle to support my sister and I but, we
never really knew everything she did until we were old enough to realize it. When Christmas
came around every year we just figured Santa left us all these great gifts when in reality my mom
had to work hard to pay all the bills and keep us happy.
I could see you coming home after work late, you re in the kitchen trying to fix us a hot plate .
Tupac Dear Mama I was always a top priority to my mom and my happiness was what made her
happy. No matter how hard of a day she had or any other problems she would always put them to
the side to make sure we were taken care of. As I started getting a little older I used to ask myself
how my mom did it. I would think how does she wait with me in the morning for the school bus,
go to work, pick me up from daycare, help me with my homework, have dinner cooked every night,
take me to any doctor s appointment I had, take my sister to cheerleading practice and manage to
get me ready for football practice at the same time, take us home to get ready for bed just to do it

Essay about The Benin Bronzes
This essay deals with the nature of a cross cultural encounter between the Benin people and
Portuguese traders in the 15th and 16th centuries, which resulted in the depiction of Portuguese
figures in Benin brass plaques. It will propose that this contact between people with different
cultures was on the basis of mutual regard (Woods, K. 2008, p. 16), and although the Portuguese
had qualms about idolatry in Beninit will show that assumptions by Europeans up to the 20th
century of the primitive nature of tribal African societies was inaccurate with regard to the Benin
people, who had a society based on the succession of the King or Oba , a Royal Family and

2008, p. 8), then resold them further along the coast, using the proceeds to buy gold.
According to Joseph Eboreime, a Nigerian historian, the bronze heads are a visual history of the
Benin Royal Family from before 1440 until 1897 (Woods, K. 2008, p. 12). It appears that the
bronzes were seen only by the Oba and Royal Court with access to the royal compounds and
rooms, during ceremonies commemorating their ancestors (Ben Amos in Woods, K. 2008, p. 12)
. It is also unlikely they were seen in situ by the Portuguese traders either (Pereira, D. P. also Pina,
R. both in Woods, K. and MacKenzie, R. 2008, p. 33).
Finally, the plaques are clear evidence of a mutually beneficial cultural encounter with Portuguese
traders in which both parties gained. It could be speculated that the rectilinear form of the plaques
arose from Benin craftsmen seeing Portuguese oil paintings, but there is no evidence of this. The
plaques, however, do first appear after contact with the Portuguese, following which there was a
resurgence in bronze sculptures, probably as a result of the increased wealth and confidence of
Benin.

Suspense in Steven Spielberg s Movie Jaws Essay
Suspense in Steven Spielberg s Movie Jaws
Steven Spielberg, the creator of Jaws, uses many different techniques to draw in the suspense of
viewers and to capture their imagination. These techniques include special effects to create tension,
different camera angles to show facial expressions and group shots. The classic Jaws music, known
by millions of people, also helps build up tension, to let us know when the shark is approaching. He
uses colours, so that we can associate signs and symbols to forthcoming events, e.g. the colour red
is associated with danger. We will be using all of the above devices to help analyse different parts
of the film.

The waves give off a really eerie effect, the whole scene just seems to bee too calm.
The next scene is off the girl swimming, but there is no music playing at all, and makes the
atmosphere feel eerie. You wonder what is going to happen next. Also the girl is totally naked at
this time, which makes her seem very vulnerable, as there is nothing between her and the shark,
except water. She is also away from the party, which makes her seem unsafe.
The camera then starts to switch from the girls point of view, to the sharks point of view. The girl
is totally defenceless to the shark s capabilities, but using this effect allows you to relate to both
characters.
Next, you see a shot of the girl kicking her legs, and the camera slowly zooms in. This shows the
view from the shark s point of view, and shows the audience that the danger is getting closer, which
is certainly building the tension up.
The fact that we do not see the shark makes the audience feel quite uneasy, as in a way we are
uncertain of what the danger is. It also builds up a lot of fear, from our point of view.
There are a lot pauses in the attack, which allows you to see the unconscious boy, slumped on the
beach. To me this shows us that the girl s only chance of survival is totally oblivious to the current
events, and is unaware of her screams. Also when the camera switches onto the boy, it gives a

Why did a thirty second mobile app game advertisement catch so many people s attention during
the 2015 Super Bowl? The thirty second advertisement for the game called, Game of War which

draw America s attention, one of them being by using a women s sexual figure to promote the
recognition of the game. Additionally, they also use gender, media and advertisingto promote fame

Prejudice In The Swing Era
The swing era was vast and equally varietal. From Benny Goodman to Chick Webb or Artie Shaw
each had their individual sound . Moreover, this separated them and gave them their own appeal to
the masses. However, The swing era occurred at a time when racism and prejudice still had a
strong foothold in public eye. While playing swingdid allow a member of a minority to have some
freedom from this prejudice, they still could not expect the same treatment as the white players.
In The Swing Era: Pure Pleasure swing was described as an escape for people who are down on
their luck. Moreover, Swing gave people hope and a place to break free and forget about your
trouble. This is most likely why swing climbed so aggressively into popular culture. Swing was
not just a type of music; it was a lifestyle. The bands that toured lived a breathed swing. Some
bands would have to sleep in their bus or car because they could not afford to get a room. They
would either sleep in the bus or go out and look for a home that was willing to be shared for the
night. Bands would sometimes be fed and sheltered by these families. The video said that these

Introduction
According to state of inbound marketing in the year 2012 62% of marketers said social media
became more important to the marketing campaigns in the last 6 months. Apparently businesses
had moved on to the next big step of marketing their products and services to consumers or other

businesses had enhanced the sale rates, the relationship between the provider and the consumer, the
quality of the product or service. Furthermore, because marketing using social media is less
expensive than the usual way, the process of beginning a new business became much affordable,

one may ask? An immediate sense of love in a reader s eye is exaggeration, in which one may

Most of Yeats s poetry is addressed to her. Yeats associated her with Helen of Troy, whose

Workchoices Act Australia
1.1 GOVERNMENT AND ORGANISATIONAL INPUT Ryan and Herod (2006, p.494) indicates
that the WorkChoices act contributed to the decline of union membership in Australia. Prior to the
commencement of the act, the rights of employers and employees were regulated by industrial
tribunals, unions and employment associations. It is detailed that the primary intentions of the
WorkChoices act was to limit the power and influence of unions and support individual bargaining
in contractual agreements. It is also argued that regulations could only be altered or changed by
these counterparts, with the input of lawyers (Bray and Waring 2006, p.46), which proved to be
time consuming (Howe 2013, p.138). In addition to this, it is highlighted that many employment...

Chang, Travaglione and O Neill (2017, p.651) propose something similar, explaining that many
join unions as a result of negative experiences in the workplace. Marchington et al. (2016, p.299)

union members have a stronger voice in negotiating benefits, such as work hours, health insurance
and sick leave. The Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU) argues that those who are with a
union enjoy a better salary, suggesting that are under an agreement earn around $100 more per

The Effect Of Outrigger Truss On Composite High Rise...
Study on Effectiveness of Outrigger Truss in Composite High Rise Buildings by Simplified Method
Ei Ei Khine Ph.D Candidate, Department of Civil Engineering, Yangon Technological University,
Yangon, Republic of the Union of Myanmar eekmayday83@gmail.com Abstract The design of tall
and slender structures is controlled by three governing factors, strength (material capacity), stiffness
(drift) and serviceability (motion perception and accelerations), produced by the action of lateral
loading, such as wind and earthquake. Outrigger systems are generally very effective in fulfilling
the serviceability requirements of tall buildings. This research conducted a study on effectiveness
of outrigger truss by simplified method to introduce the normal buildings that can be minimized the
deflection as the buildings with outrigger. Two and three outrigger levels are used in 40 and 50
storey square shape buildings respectively. From this result, the engineers can run the buildings
without using outrigger to get the minimum deflection as the buildings with outrigger but the base
shear is larger than outrigger buildings significantly. Therefore, for the proposed buildings to get
minimum deflection, the outrigger is more effective than simplified method.

Terminology In Healthcare
The process of improvements in healthcare for the United States has been a continuous battle with
many obstacles and challenges. With that being said, our health care system is now relying on the
technology resources to develop and maintain an efficient electronic health record. Therefore, one
of the major benefits of having an electronic health records would be the advance interoperability to
communicate with other systems (Pamela K. Oachs, 2016). Although, one of the challenges with
effective data exchange is due to the many different ways that terminology is used in the healthcare
systems (Pamela K. Oachs, 2016). Under those circumstances, I am going to describe three different

Comparing Coachella, Larkfest And The Marley Fast
Festivals make so much money in the beginning of the year. Festivals like Coachella, LarkFest,
and The Marley Fest are the most popular in the country. Most parents give their teenagers festival
tickets as a christmas present so they can have fun. What most parents don t know is that in the
festivals their kids can easily smoke and drink. The festivals are the most popular because it is
easy for young adults to consume drugs. The LarkFest is an example of how easy young adults
can get alcoholic beverages. Larkfest has relaxed on the I.D. policy for purchasing drugs and
alcohol.

I understand that venders at the festivals will lose profit but it is the law that they shouldn t sell
drugs or alcohol to underage drinkers. I would focus on the I.D. policy and not care about the

think that the publishing of drugs should be banned from sites that teens might use. They should
publish the Festival drugs but on adult websites.
Does my decision harm anyone? I don t think my choice harms anyone because people can still
sell but they should be aware of the I.D. policy. The vendors lose profit but they will be helping

My fifth step I cannot prove because no one has seen my decision. To conclude my research I never

Leonardo Da Vinci used gaze and demand within the artwork. This allows the audience to feel

effect of having Mona Lisa s smile alter depending on the angles the audience looks at the

What Is The Theme Of The Tyger Poem
Earth is a confusing place. One doesn t understand it, and yet wants to know it all. He has questions
that don t seem to have answers; questions about religion, science, nature and humanity. The poet
Blake documented one such question in his poem The Tyger. He had a desire to know about the
tiger. His fascination with the animal leads him to ask many questionsabout it, specifically about its
creator. Wondering who made the tiger, what its origin was, he asks in what place was such a
fierce creature designed. In what he has been taught about the physical world, he finds a scary
contrast between the character of the creator and the creation. Looking at the questions Blake did,
with what in mind the creator made the tiger, where it s from,... Show more content on

The third stanza goes on with those inquiries about the creator of the tiger. Blake asks what
shoulder, which is a metaphor for power or work, could create the tiger; he asks what art could
make such a thing. The use of the word art points to beauty, which shows mixed feelings about
the tiger: both horrible and beautiful, and perhaps somewhat allegorical. Blake s interest in the
tiger continues for two more lines, only this time he looks at the horror, and after that stanza
number four delves into the making of the tiger. This looks like blacksmith imagery, for a
hammer, chain, anvil, and furnace are all the tools of someone who forges things out of iron.
This metaphorical stanza indicates two things: first, the tiger is made of tough steel, not out of
delicate silver, gold, and gems; now no longer can one find symbols of the tiger s beauty in the
poem, just of its terror. Second, In what furnace was thy brain points to the tiger s aggressive
nature, and thereafter Blake indicates that such a nature is not one from a good place, but from a
nasty hellish place, filled with fire and brimstone: from a

La Fresne Social Status
This paper will focus on how nobility affects social status, opportunities and how it provides a
luxurious life to nobles. From La Fresne, I will study the fact that La Fresne s luxurious
possessions (blanket and fine ring), set her fate. Because of it she received an education and a
decent living, and eventually met her parents. If she didn t show signs of nobilityher life would have
turned out very differently, she could have been abandoned or worse. In Marie de France s Le
Fresne , a mother who is frightened of being misjudged seeks to abandon one of her twin
daughters, due to the fact that having twins hinted at the idea of infidelity. The mother
contemplates outrageous solutions to this problem, such as murder, but after sound advice from
her beloved maid, she decides against it, and together formulate a plan to get rid of one of her
daughters. They decide to abandon the child in a church so that she could be adopted and raised
by someone else. Before giving up her child, the mother wraps her baby in a lavish brocade that her
husband had brought back from the Crusadesand tied to it a fine ring. The maid leaves the child on
an ash tree around the church, where she was found and automatically assumed to be nobility. As

Overall I agree that defenders in sports play the most important role in the game as well as to

sports there wouldn t be much of a competition between the two teams and scoring would be a lot
easier. Games would also be boring to watch because of how easy it is to score. Imagining watching

that happens frequently because of their strong defense. Spain has been known for conquering all

Sergio Ramos because he fits the requirements of his good pressure, vision, and tackling

Effect of Solute Concentration on Osmosis in Potato Cells...
INTRODUCTION
Osmosis is the movement of water molecules from high concentration to low concentration through
semipermeable membranes, caused by the difference in concentrations on the two sides of a
membrane (Rbowen, L.). It occurs in both animals and plants cells. In human bodies, the process of
osmosis is primarily found in the kidneys, in the glomerulus. In plants, osmosis is carried out
everywhere within the cells of the plant (World Book, 1997). This can be shown by an experiment
with potato and glucose/salt solution. The experiment requires putting a piece (or more) of

Analysis Of Nel Cor PiпїЅ Non Mi Sento
Nel cor piГ№ non mi sento by Giovanni Paisiello The composer of Nel cor piГ№ non mi sento is
Giovanni Paisiello, an Italian opera composer born in 1740. Giovanni s musical talent was
discovered when his singing ability was revealed while at school. As a result, Giovanni was sent
to the Conservatory of Dan Onofrio at Naples. While in school, he composed multiple intermezzi,
which garnered enough attention to grant him the opportunity to write two operas. Giovanni s
career advanced from there, spending time composing in Russia, and Vienna before returning to
Naples; he also had a spent a short amount of time in Paris. Ultimately, over eighty different operas
are credited to Paisiello as well as many smaller works. This particular song, Nel cor piГ№ non mi
sento comes from his 1788 operaL amor constrastato, more commonly known as La Molinara. In
this comedy opera, three men (Don Calloandro, Don Rospolone, and Pistofolo) fall for mill

Historical Accuracy Of La Amistad
Amistad is a movie depicting the real events concerning the Spanish slave ship, La Amistad, in
1839. The movie starts off with Cinque, one of the slaves, breaking free from his shackles, and
leading a revolt on the ship. The slaves kill all the crew except for two people, and demand that
they be sailed back to Africa. The Spanish sailors agree, but they deviously sail the ship to America.
When the ship reaches the United States, the slaves are put in jail, and are going to be tried in
court for murder of the ships passengers and sent to Spain. However, the slaves are defended by
Roger Baldwin, and later John Quincy Adams. Practically everyone is against the slaves and the
government tries to make it harder for the slaves to win the case. The case eventually reaches the
supreme court, and despite much controversy and refutation, the supreme court decides that the
slaves are to be set free and sailed back to Africa.
Overall, the major plot points in the film are historically accurate. For example, the first scene in
the movie, which depicts the slaves revolting and taking over the ship, is more accurate than not.
According to Swanson (1998):
On June 30 Cinque incited the slaves to revolt at sea, killing the captain and cook and taking
prisoner their owners, two merchants named Ruiz and Montez. Cinque tried to force Montez to
pilot the vessel to Africa, but Montez reversed the course repeatedly, zigzagging up the North
American coast. They were captured off Montauk Point, Long Island, by the U.S. Coast Guard
vessel Washington and were brought to New London, where the ship, cargo, and rebellious slaves
were claimed for salvage money, while Ruiz and Montez sought to regain possession of them.
(para. 3)
This is what is depicted in the film. The slaves take over the ship and kill the captain, and only
leaving the two merchants, Ruiz and Montez. The film also showed the two merchants reassuring
the slaves that they are going back to Africa, but changing the direction of the course several times,
ultimately ending up in the United States. The film shows exactly what happened on the real ship.
Another accurate detail from the movie is the treatment of slaves aboard La Amistad. In the film, the
slaves underwent vile

An Inspirational Rite Of Passage
In the prime age of sixteen, I felt an inspirational rite of passage. My endurance through Drivers
Ed guaranteed me my license which I wanted desperately. Furthermore, my father had permitted
me to drive his white 2002 Dodge Ram truck; and after eleven years of its existence, its
appearance was still flawless and shattered anything in its way. While driving it, I felt invincible,
so invincible I could jump over any hurtle, obstacle, you name it. I intentionally found reasons to
drive it like: going to the store, the bank, visiting familymembers, and of course hanging out with
my friends. In the early spring of 2013, I was returning home from eating lunch with my hilarious
friend, Wade, at Rupes, the best burger joint in town. My foot all the way on the gas petal, my left
hand out the window, and my eyes on the road was my last good memory before it happened.
At the speed of 45 between the intersecting of Rich Lane and University Street, my eyes were
flashed by the bursting sunlight from my rearview mirror. My depth perception was rattled by
my tainted eyes, and I could not readjust them back in order before blinking. After a brief
moment, I finally attuned my eyes and I gathered that I drifted closer to the right side of the road.
Likewise out of the corner of my right eye, I notice a strange object fifteen feet headed to the right
of the truck. I focused more upon the black object before it disappeared out of my sight and

Theme Of The Carousel In Something Wicked This Way Comes
Sometimes the man who looks happiest in town, with the biggest smile, is the one carrying the
biggest load of sin. There are smiles and smiles; learn to tell the dark variety from the light.
(Bradbury 135) Written in 1962, Ray Bradbury s Something Wicked This Way Comes is a fantasy
fiction novel which depicts the mysterious experience two teenage boys encounter one October
night in Green Town, Illinois. Within Something Wicked This Way Comes, Ray Bradbury utilizes
symbolism of the carousel in order to reveal the primary theme:beware of even the most innocent
things, for they can be so nefarious.
To begin with, the author incorporates the carousel as a symbol of evil disguised as innocence. In
reality, the carousel is a distortion which represents the fears and desires wicked people feed off of
in order to acquire ultimate power. In the novel, the author often refers to the carousel since it is
almost portrayed as a vault which is constantly revolving and depending on the innocent who
succumb to the dark side when their greatest fears are put to the test. According to Bud Martin, we
are drawn in and root for children because their security is being encroached upon, and it is their
love and innocence that both can make them victims and save them, in the end. The carousel is by
far the most powerful and important symbol within and throughout the novel because it is
considered the powerhouse or main source of energy which thrives solely on the souls of the weak
and naive who

  • 3. Arther Miller Come along as an adventure through time takes launch. From the interim of Arthur Miller s birth and death, he wrote some of America s greatest plays which are known all around the world. This world renowned screenwriter and playwright is arguably considered the best playwright of the 20th century. We start our journey here on October 17, 1915 in Harlem, New York where Miller was born. Arther Miller was the son of Isidore and Augusta, a Polish and Jewish Immigrant family who owned a flourishing manufacturing business. The miller family got hit hard during the Wall Street Crash of 1929 nearly losing everything. Arther Miller worked hard after he graduated high school, so he would be able to pay for his collage tuition at the University of Michigan. It was at Michigan that he wrote his first play, No Villain. This play won him the school s Avery Hopwood Award and sparked the beginning of his successful career as a playwright. The beginning of Miller s playwright career came out with a boom with, All My Sons, which debuted on Broadway in 1947. This play won Miller his first of many Tony Awards. His next ... McCarthyism is the act of making false accusations without showing the proper evidence. Miller denied to follow any of the committee s orders. Again in 1957, Brooks Atkinson wrote about millers stand: He refused to be an informer. He refused to turn his private conscience over to administration by the state. He has accordingly been found in contempt of Congress. That is the measure of the man who has written these high minded plays. • 4. Funk Carioca Research Paper By 1989, DJ Marlboro, an essential pioneer in the genre of funk carioca music, released his first album Funk Brasil which contained Portuguese covers of popular Miami bass songs (Filho 229). Funk Brasil went on to be so successful that Brazilian media outlets began to report on the explosive trajectory of funk carioca. Thus, the genre was truly became familiar to the public eye by the early 90s (Filho 229). Popular nightclubs for middle class Brazilians began to host special nights dedicated to funk carioca while radio stations played an active role in promoting Brazilian funk festivals and playing recordings from baile funks across the city of Rio de Janeiro(Filho 230). Overall, the representation of funk carioca was fairly neutral until 1992 (Filho 229). That year, a group of young criminals known as arrastГЈos were arrested on a beach in the south side of Rio de Raneiro. The local news carried the story and depicted images of social disorder as teenage gangs fought amongst each other (Filho 230). As a response, funk carioca, the cultural expression of slums and trademark of the youth from Rio de Janeiro s favelas, was highlighted in the media as a key source to the malfeasance of the poor youth (Filho 230). The arrastГЈos at the beach were identified as funkieros who promot[ed] violence very similar to that of organized... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Of course, violent and sexually explicit lyrics are present in many funk carioca songs. However, it would be far too simplistic to reduce the genre to these sole characteristics. The genre has a legitimate significance to Brazilian youths living in favelas and is much more than laughably crude cartoonish lyrics. The exoticization of funk carioca is particularly dangerous because it merely presents the genre as void, vulgar music and strips Brazilian funk of its cultural significance to the residents of Brazilian ... • 5. Obamacare Persuasive Essay Several of us are watching the news right now waiting to see if Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Congress get the 50 out of 52 votes to repeal legislation and to begin the Obamacare debate. After the votes are counted the debate will start for Obamacare to be repealed or to not be repealed. Obamacare, also known as Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, was signed in March 2010 by Obama to Include multiple provisions that would take effect over a matter of years, including the expansion of Medicaid eligibility, the establishment of health insurance exchanges and prohibiting health insurers from denying coverage due to pre existing conditions. ( Affordable ). Therefore, this debate will show what Obamacare does for the people of the U.S, what will replace Obamacare if it is repealed, and if it is worth all the hassle of repealing and replaces it with Trump Care or to not replace it. Obamacare should not be repealed because several Americans are relying on Obamacare s cost assistance to afford health care. Many citizens often ask each other, What is Obamacare? To be quite honest, not many people could explain to each other what Obamacare is. The main goal of Obamacare is to give access to more affordable health insurance and to reduce the growth of overall spending on health care in the U.S (DeMichele, What is Obamacare? ). Obamacare may seem like every other bill that can be repealed or replaced but it is not. Citizens lean on Obamacare to give them the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Causes Of The Cuban Missile Crisis The Cuban Missile Crisis In the fall of 1962, the world sat on edge for thirteen days as the prospect of a nuclear war between the United States and The Soviet Union became more and more legitimate. In October of 1962, an American spy plane discovered nuclear missile launch sites being built by the Soviet Unionin Cuba, which rests only ninety miles south of Florida. The US went on to impose a naval blockade of Cuba, making sure that no more nuclear weapons were imported into Havana (Lebow 2000). President John F. Kennedy was tasked with the duty to remove the nuclear missiles from Cuba while preventing a catastrophic and deadly nuclear war. Nikita Khrushchev, the leader of the Soviet Union, longed to be seen as the powerful and authoritative figure that would be able bring the Soviet Union to equal levels of political, military, and social prominence as the United States. Ultimately, Khrushchev sought to maintain his political and military power and influence, and not backing down from the all powerful United States and John F. Kennedy demonstrated to his colleagues that he meant business. Similarly, President Kennedy was seeking re election in November of 1962, only a month after the rising tensions. In order to be re elected, Kennedy recognized his need to make up for the failures of the Bay of Pigs and the Vienna Summit and Kennedy became eager to improve his current poor reputation and show the world, and more importantly US voters, his strong willed resolve. • 7. The Gps Technology THE GPS TECHNOLOGY INTRODUCTION Throughout time people have developed a variety of ways to figure out their position on earth and to navigate from one place to another. Early mariners relied on angular measurements to celestial bodies like sun and stars to calculate their location. The 1920s witnessed the introduction of more advanced technique radio navigation based at first on radios that allowed navigators to locate the direction of shore based transmitters when in range. Later development of artificial satellites made possible the transmission of more precise, line of sight radio navigation signals and sparked a new era in navigation technology. Satellites are first used in position finding in a simple but reliable 2D Navy... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The satellite signals are further processed by data processor of the navigation set to demodulate the data and then decode it to get the user s 3D position coordinates. The GPS receivers are used for navigation, positioning, aviation, shipping, geology and other purposes. WORKING Consider the case of a lightning followed by a thunder. A few seconds after seeing the lightning we hear the thunder. If we know the time taken for the sound waves to travel from the lightning place to the listener, we can calculate the distance between the listener and the lightning place. Similar principle is used in the working of GPS. The GPS system works by determining how long it takes a radio signal transmitted from a satellite to reach a land based receiver and then, using that time to calculate the distance between the satellite and the Earth station receiver. Radio waves travel at approximately the speed of light, 3x108 m/s. if a receiver can determine exactly when a satellite began sending a radio signal and exactly when the signal was received, then it can determine the propagation time. From propagation time, the receiver can determine the distance between it and the satellite using the mathematical relationship d = v Г— t Where d = ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He looked around at the worried faces, I don t want to see you teasing Oliver again, and no violence must be permitted on school grounds. Do I make myself clear? No one answered. Do I make myself clear? He repeated. Yes the boys all said in sync. Oliver, you may go back to lunch, everyone else stay, Principal Walker waited for him to leave the room, Boys, I m very disappointed in all of you, but I have to assign a two day suspension, from september 11, to september 12. Before Adam could remember anything more from yesterday, his father hurried him passed the door. Adam planned out what he was going to do. Instead of telling his father about the suspension, he was going to walk towards the bus stop, but keep walking straight all the way to Rite Aid. Now that Adam had the plan he had to put it in action. His father waved him goodbye, and went inside to get ready for work, at the New York Fire Department. Adam read Fulton Street at the top of his neighborhood. He turned back to see if his father went inside, which he did. Adam s watch had the time 8:23a.m. , so his bus would be arriving around 2 minutes. • 10. Ancient Christian Beliefs Ancient Christian beliefs about Death and the Afterlife: Most Romans during this time believed in many different gods and where known as polytheists. Christianity in Rome started as an illegal act of rebellion against the popular belief of more than one god or the gods. Christian believed in one god and that Jesus, a man who was gathering a large following around 30AD, was the son of their one god. The followers of Jesus became known as Christians. Christians spread the word of their God all around, teaching that peoples sins would be forgiven if they became Christian. People all around the empire responded to the idea of Christian salvation. Christianity quickly became the blame for most of Rome s problems due to them turning away from worshiping the gods to worshiping only one, causing emperor of the time Nero to begin persecuting Christians as he believed they were making the gods angry. Many Romans believed that the empire was facing hardship due to the ever expanding group of Christians. • 12. Celia, a Slave Essay Celia, a Slave is the epitome of the relationship between slaves and their owners and also the slaves and other whites in the 1850 s. This is based on her interactions with her owner Robert Newsom and her reactions mainly with the community involved in her court case. These relationships affected more so the women slaves rather than the men slaves because of their weaker nature as perceived by the sexual differences of the time period between men and women in general. Slaveryis questioned by the morals of the Northerners and some Southerners though it is common in the South so most Southerners reinforce the ideas of slavery with their own morals, believing slaves as meaningless because of their difference. Though her story was that of defense from her master: she had acted alone, struck her master to stop his advances, and had not intentionally killed him, Missouri s pre Civil War court system was unable to protect her claims because she was a slave and they were unwilling to change their beliefs about slaves and how they should be viewed and treated in society. (as proved previously in the case Dred Scott vs. Sandford.) These were the most frequent reactions of the Southerners; however a man named John Jameson took her side and defended her and her actions toward Robert Newsom as acts of defense against his advances, and claimed she had the right, by law, to use deadly force to protect herself against rape, regardless of her previous sexual relations with him. Though, because of the southerners hate of the slaves and their desire to treat them as inferiors, they did not deliver the evidence necessary to acquit her for her crime. Having lost the trial, Celia s attorneys filed a motion to request a new trial on October 11th. However, Judge Hall denied the motion on October 13th and Celia was sentenced to be hung on November 16th. She was given this time before being executed to birth her child, as law stated that pregnant women could not be executed. This pain is shown in a unique way throughout the story. Jonathan, as he tells this first person narrative, does not come right out and put words to his feelings concerning his father. At the start of the story Jonathan plainly states that his father died in 1955 and he explains the situation of how Jonathan s aunts on his dad s side choose not to tell Jonathan s grandmother about his father s passing, but he does not reveal the sorrow resulting from the death ... As with the symbol of a missing headstone, this image of Jonathan feeling a little part of his father in the suit because of the lingering scent of his father, again shows how Jonathan has not really come to accept his father s death. This symbol suggests a presence of his father from which he has not freed himself ( Writer ). He has not been able to do so since he is forced to keep the image of his father alive by writing letters pretending to be his father. In the story, Jonathan does not come right out and explain his inner conflict due to the passing of father, but instead he describes himself being uncomfortable while trying on his father s suits, to address his conflict. Also, Jonathan s inner conflict stems deeper into the person that he will become. Jonathan s discomfort and his sense of being less than his father are represented by his uneasy feeling when he tries on his father s too large suit jacket (Heims 275). A suit jacket too large for Jonathan symbolizes that Jonathan does not feel that he is living up to his father, and it

Her goal is to place these words, particularly oppression, within the discourse of the social structures in America. Young presses that this oppression must be viewed in a way that analyzes the condition of human practices and their conscious actions. Young continues by defining social groups, aggregate, and associations. Social groups are collectives of persons differentiated from other groups by cultural forms, practices, or ways of life. Aggregates are classification of people according to attributes, and associates are formally organized institutions (43 44). Groups through these only exist in relation to other groups. These groups arise from a common oppression or their identity has to be pointed out by outside groups. Young then provides her particular methodology for defining a group as oppressed. These criteria are exploitation, marginalization, powerlessness, cultural imperialism, and violence. She says that only one of these criteria must be met in order for a group to be considered oppressed. This oppression criteria must be utilized on the basis of comparison for groups, yet avoids a hierarchy of oppression through saying that all groups are suffering and are united in their mutual oppression. She moves intersectionally to show the basis of comparison for these groups and their overlapping struggles. Study on Effectiveness of Outrigger Truss in Composite High Rise Buildings by Simplified Method Ei Ei Khine Ph.D Candidate, Department of Civil Engineering, Yangon Technological University, Yangon, Republic of the Union of Myanmar eekmayday83@gmail.com Abstract The design of tall and slender structures is controlled by three governing factors, strength (material capacity), stiffness (drift) and serviceability (motion perception and accelerations), produced by the action of lateral loading, such as wind and earthquake. Outrigger systems are generally very effective in fulfilling the serviceability requirements of tall buildings. This research conducted a study on effectiveness of outrigger truss by simplified method to introduce the normal buildings that can be minimized the deflection as the buildings with outrigger. Two and three outrigger levels are used in 40 and 50 storey square shape buildings respectively. From this result, the engineers can run the buildings without using outrigger to get the minimum deflection as the buildings with outrigger but the base shear is larger than outrigger buildings significantly. Blake asks what shoulder, which is a metaphor for power or work, could create the tiger; he asks what art could make such a thing. Blake s interest in the tiger continues for two more lines, only this time he looks at the horror, and after that stanza number four delves into the making of the tiger. This looks like blacksmith imagery, for a hammer, chain, anvil, and furnace are all the tools of someone who forges things out of iron. This metaphorical stanza indicates two things: first, the tiger is made of tough steel, not out of delicate silver, gold, and gems; now no longer can one find symbols of the tiger s beauty in the poem, just of its terror. • 50. Historical Accuracy Of La Amistad Amistad is a movie depicting the real events concerning the Spanish slave ship, La Amistad, in 1839. The movie starts off with Cinque, one of the slaves, breaking free from his shackles, and leading a revolt on the ship. The slaves kill all the crew except for two people, and demand that they be sailed back to Africa. The Spanish sailors agree, but they deviously sail the ship to America. When the ship reaches the United States, the slaves are put in jail, and are going to be tried in court for murder of the ships passengers and sent to Spain. However, the slaves are defended by Roger Baldwin, and later John Quincy Adams. Practically everyone is against the slaves and the government tries to make it harder for the slaves to win the case. The case eventually reaches the supreme court, and despite much controversy and refutation, the supreme court decides that the slaves are to be set free and sailed back to Africa. Overall, the major plot points in the film are historically accurate. For example, the first scene in the movie, which depicts the slaves revolting and taking over the ship, is more accurate than not. According to Swanson (1998): On June 30 Cinque incited the slaves to revolt at sea, killing the captain and cook and taking prisoner their owners, two merchants named Ruiz and Montez. Cinque tried to force Montez to pilot the vessel to Africa, but Montez reversed the course repeatedly, zigzagging up the North American coast. They were captured off Montauk Point, Long Island, by the U.S. Coast Guard vessel Washington and were brought to New London, where the ship, cargo, and rebellious slaves were claimed for salvage money, while Ruiz and Montez sought to regain possession of them. (para. 3) This is what is depicted in the film. The slaves take over the ship and kill the captain, and only leaving the two merchants, Ruiz and Montez. The film also showed the two merchants reassuring the slaves that they are going back to Africa, but changing the direction of the course several times, ultimately ending up in the United States. The film shows exactly what happened on the real ship. Another accurate detail from the movie is the treatment of slaves aboard La Amistad. In the film, the slaves underwent vile ... Assault weapons are characterized by the ability to fire large numbers of bullets in a very short amount of time. These soldier type weapons are made for armies and police forces, not hunters. I ve got several guns, but I don t see any reason why armor piercing bullets and concealed weapons should be sold legally in this country. They are only used to kill human beings, Former President Jimmy Carter (Graves 3) Hunters, usually needing only one shot for their intended kill, have no need of any such weapon. When its time to hunt birds, you need a good gun like this Ruger Red Label (a firearm designed for hunting). Twenty five years ago, in the war in Vietnam, people hunted me. Within Something Wicked This Way Comes, Ray Bradbury utilizes symbolism of the carousel in order to reveal the primary theme:beware of even the most innocent things, for they can be so nefarious. To begin with, the author incorporates the carousel as a symbol of evil disguised as innocence. In reality, the carousel is a distortion which represents the fears and desires wicked people feed off of in order to acquire ultimate power. In the novel, the author often refers to the carousel since it is almost portrayed as a vault which is constantly revolving and depending on the innocent who succumb to the dark side when their greatest fears are put to the test. According to Bud Martin, we are drawn in and root for children because their security is being encroached upon, and it is their love and innocence that both can make them victims and save them, in the end. The carousel is by far the most powerful and important symbol within and throughout the novel because it is considered the powerhouse or main source of energy which thrives solely on the souls of the weak and naive who ...
