Types Of Transport Within A Cell
There are many different types of transport within a cell that can end up being very complex. On
the outside of the cell is the plasma membrane that protects it from the outside environment. The
plasma membrane is very picky about what it allows through it. It wants to let in oxygen and
nutrients, but keep out harmful bacteria. It also wants to keep in the proteins and nutrients that are
already in the membrane. Because of this property, the plasma membrane is called a selectively
permeable membrane and it has two basic transport processes. In passive transport processes it is
the concentration differences that drives the movement. The two passive transports are diffusionand
filtration. In active transport processes the cell provides energy in the form of Adenosine
Triphosphate (ATP) to power the process. The two active transport processes are primary which
is driven directly by ATP or secondary which is driven indirectly by ATP (Marieb P61). For the
most part, molecules will diffuse passively through the plasma membrane if they are small enough,
but they must be aided by a concentration gradient. A concentration gradient is when there is a
difference in concentration of a substance from one area to another (Amerman P75). This property
of the plasma membrane is critical to the cell. Without this property the cell would not be able to
exchange the oxygen and nutrients it needs to with the extracellular fluid (the fluid located in the
spaces between the cells). The

Meaning Of The Ancreon Song
Francis Scott Key was an American lawyer that had boarded the British ship of their fleet to
persuade the British to release one of his friends who had been recently been arrested. Even
though he got what he had hoped for, the British refused to let them go. This is due to them
already having knowledge of the the attack that was about to occur. Therefore, under the British
s watch, the British allowed them to return to their ship. Under the watch of the British, Key
witnessed the bombardment on Fort Mc Henry. On the night of September 13, 1814, as he sat
and watched, he continued to view the distinct pictures that were there. This includes: clearing
smoke, darkness, gunshots, and red. (Brinkley 176) Then later, as he continued to watch what
was happening on Fort Mc Henry, Key continued to write his thoughts. Watching this, he thought
to himself that the British would win, but in reality, it was an American victory. On September
14, he saw the American flag still flying over the fort. (Siegel and Green 30) While still on the
ship, Key put all of his thoughts on paper making it into a poem. He named this poem The
Defence of Ft. Mc Henry . His poem was a tune of a older song set to The Anacreon Song . Ralph
Tomlinson wrote An Anacreon in Heaven that was used as a tone for Key to write his poem. This
song was commonly used for the Anacreontic Society. This club consisted of wealthy men who
were named after a poet, Anacreon. His poems mainly focused on love and wine.

The Face Of Education And The Changes It Has Undertaken...
The face of education and the changes it has undertaken throughout history in the U.S. is a constant
flow that thus alters the fabric of the American society. To provide an educated workforce for the
future has been the job of educators for centuries, but with a greater immigration movement and
presence, an educator s ability is limited and the fate of such children are left to suffer. Pulling from
America s position as a melting pot of different cultures and people, students should not be
subjugated to poverty and educational ignorance just because of their status as an illegal immigrant,
a distinction made by the choices of their parents and the situations of their past. Illegal immigration
is not by choice to intrude upon another nation, but to secure the individual s rights to better their
own life. Through distance and set conditions, immigrants cannot always obtain the documentation
necessary to cross borders in a timely manner, causing many to cross the border into a new life
without being legal. Upon arriving, the next step is education, preparing to try to fit in with the rest
of the society and gain a stepping stone into success, thus the shift of acceptance in education
during the Plyler vs. Doe Supreme Court case was fundamental to attain change and support for
illegal immigrant families.
From the late 1700 s, just after the establishment of the U.S., immigration has been a problem as it
allowed the mixing of multiple cultures and ethnicities in a single

The Aquariums Of Pyongyang Summary
The Aquariums of Pyongyang by Kang Chol Hwan is a memoir about a young boy s life in a
North Korean gulag during the dictatorship of Kim Il sung. His story is profoundly touching,
recounting his glorious childhood, sudden imprisonment in a labor camp, and successful escape to
South Korea. The memoir gives insight to the life of North Koreans from the 1960s to the present,
as the dictatorship tightens and the economy fails. The account is the first of its kind and is filled
with the unimaginable horrors that have faced generations of North Koreans. Along with his
personal story, the author offers his personal criticisms of the government and presents the
difficulties in solving the problems that plague the country. His open ended questions allow the
reader to think about the North Korean plight instead of only hearing his story and dismissing it as
an isolated occurrence. When the memoir was first published in 2000, Kang believed that not many
outsiders knew about the abuses of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Though the author s standpoint would seemingly be clear, considering he was on the brink of
starvation for ten years in an internment camp, he brings up the shortfalls of offering aid. He
believes the issue of distributing food is the only issue up to debate. Most of the food would be
given to the ever growing army and the citizens would be left to subsist on meager rations.
Additionally, the aid would allow the government to use its funds for military and self serving
interests. He acknowledges that, with a situation such as that in North Korea, aiding the population
also means maintaining the regime. This problem is just one example of the difficulty of
implementing human rights in deprived areas. The question is never whether or not the citizens
deserve human rights; rather, it is a question of how to support the people without supporting the
oppressive regime as

The Social Discourse Of Bipolar Disorder
The social discourse of bipolar disorder is often punctuated by the classic manic episodes
manifesting as symptoms such as distractibility, pressured speech, decreased need for sleep,
euphoric mood, grandiosity, and problems with impulse control [17]. These classic periods of
high energy are often intertwined in a cyclical fashion with periods of depressive symptoms,
much of the time meeting criteria for major depressive disorder, as well as periods with no
symptoms [17]. The frequency by which a patient moves through these states varies greatly
from weeks to months to as little as a few days, namely rapid cycling [17]. In addition to manic
episodes, hypomanic episodes, characterized by similar symptoms but less severe symptoms
than manic episodes, qualify the disease as bipolar II disorder instead of bipolar I which needs
the criteria of manic episodes alternating with major depressive episodes [17]. Another subtype
of bipolar disorder, cyclothymia, is characterized by depressive episodes that do not meet
criteria for a major depressive episode but does consist of cycling with previously described
hypomanic episodes [11]. While the stigma of manic episodes plagues patients with bipolar
disorder, often the depressive episodes are what cause the most distress and impairment in daily
functioning of patients with bipolar disorder [12]. The burden of bipolar disorder, which has an
estimated prevalence of 4% worldwide, permeates throughout all aspects of society from the

Essay on Cuban Revolution
Almost every nation in the world has experienced a revolution. A revolution can be simply defined
as a change. When a country undergoes a revolution, its ideals that it once believed in are being
modified. Sometimes revolutionaries act intellectually, yet others may respond physically through
destruction. Some may be peaceful, some short lasting, and some pointless. Historians do argue on
identifying whether a revolution has occurred. Revolutions usually follow a rupture in the nation s
events, are directed by a hero, have an ideology and belief system, and use symbols or tools to get
its points across to the people. Cubaand its leader today, Fidel Castro, have their own roots in a
revolution that took place only some forty years ago.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All revolutionaries except Castro and his family were massacred. Although this rupture failed,
Castro s movement gained popularity and prestige all over the world. In fact, Castro called the
Revolution the 26 of July Movement. Castro himself was caught and sentenced to jail for two
years. Between 1955 and 1956, br br Castro went to United States and Mexico looking for
supporters and money to fund his revolution. On December 2, 1956, eighty two men including
Castro and the physician Ernesto Che Guevara, set sail once again for the Oriente on their yacht,
the Granma. The campaign was doomed from the beginning. Nobody could navigate the boat
properly, everybody was seasick, most of the supplies were jettisoned in a storm, and the
expedition landed in the wrong place. (Sinclair,15) On one occasion Guevara followed the wrong
star to travel North, and on another, his comrade put the only the drink they had, milk, upside
down in his pocket. By the end of the day the milk was gone. On December 5 in the battle of
AlegrГa de PГo, Batista s troops killed all of the rebels except twelve. Among these survivors,
coincidentally, were Castro and Guevara. br br Meanwhile, in the cities and universities, a
revolutionary movement was also taking place. The Ortodoxo political party favored a violent

Hemingway’s Short Stories of Autobiographical, Immature Males
Hemingway s Short Stories of Autobiographical, Immature Males
Hemingway s short stories Cat in the Rain and The Snows of Kilimanjaro have male characters
that are autobiographical. He attempted to dispel criticism of his short stories as
autobiographical because Hemingway did not care for critics. His focus on his work as art
ignores the autobiographical and psychological content he depended upon to develop characters.
His characters are judged by the female characters of the short stories in the same way Hemingway
was judged by his wives.
Ernest Hemingway wrote stories about autobiographical, male characters that lacked maturity as
judged by female characters. He exhibited this in his married life and it may have contributed to his

Hemingway ignored the instinctual facts of life in his own relationship and relived the conflict and
break ups he consequently experienced in his short stories and on film. His multiple marriages are
evidence of his recurring denial of the need to address the nesting instinct, whether with child or cat,
in the woman he first married and that ignorance is repeated by the autobiographical characters in
his writings.
Bickford Sylvester, in his article Winner Take Nothing: Development as Dilemma for the
Hemingway Heroine notes that Males and females in individual stories of this work both
experience betrayal and disillusionment. In The End of Something, Cat in the Rain, and Out of
Season, a girl or young woman learns that she must live without the support of an adequate male or
the supposed securities of the institutions of love and marriage. Her most cherished natural and
social expectations are thus exposed as false. And each of these young females of the composite
comes off as a sympathetically portrayed victim, uniformly stronger and more honest with herself
than is the male she wishes to share her life with. (74) The female character is more mature and in a
position to judge the immaturity of the inadequate male.
This weakness as a sign of immaturity in Hemingway s male characters is pointed out by David
Lodge in his analysis of Cat in the Rain when he states, The wife, looking out of the window at a

The Political Ideology Of Vietnam
It has been nearly five decades since the first President Ngo Dinh Diem, the founder of the
Republic of Vietnam was assassinated in a military coup. Vietnamese history on its media in
general and its education in particular are still unclear about the data, events related to this
president who had the logical policy line, great political ideology of the South Vietnamand his
people at that time. The remained images of Ngo Dinh Diemin new Vietnamese generations
thoughts are just Ngo Dinh Diem was regarded as a puppet of the United States, tied in a phrase
meaning sarcastic and offended word, U.S. Diem clique , and the Diem government is just a
creation of the United States in order to serve geo strategic purposes during the Cold War .
However, those ambiguous images of the first president of Vietnam are still questioning to its
whole Nation because there s none logical evidence to offend his existence.
I do not represent for any faction that condemns my country but I m standing in the truthful voices
buried over the years, especially the historical facts that took place under Ngo Dinh Diem s term.
Why all the words in the Vietnamese history books about him do not resemble what I m being told
by my family and people around me. There must be some mysterious things in this issue that is
related to the contrast between the state apparatus of the North Vietnam and the revolutionary way
of the first president of South Vietnam, which also clarifies the differences between

strokes[1], minor and major, which affects each individual and their families. A stroke can take

Public Law And Private Law
INTRODUCTION The subject of law encompasses a wide area and covers a variety of issues
and agenda. For the convenience of readers and learners of this subject, it is classified into
various categories. Civil Law and Criminal Law Public Law and Private Law Substantive Law
and Procedural Law Municipal Law and International Law The classification between Public
Law and Private Law is one of the most important classifications of law. Public Law in general
terms has been defined as the law of relations between the individual and state . Holland lays
down the simplest test to determine whether the case falls in public law or private law If one of
the parties is state, the case falls in the dimension of public law . However, with passing times
and more complex issues arising, the scope of public law is going much beyond the normal
definition of state as one of the parties . The scope of public law now also involves various other
matters such as business regulation. Also, the scope of public law varies from state to state and
system to system. While a socialist economy will see private law having a much stronger authority,
this will not be the case in a capitalist or a mixed economy state. Major components of Public Law
are Constitutional Law Administrative Law Criminal Law Private Law, on the other hand, deals
with disputes between parties other than the State. The rights violated under the ambit of the
Private Law are the matter between the parties and

Zimbardo Prison Experiment Stu
Zimbardo Prison Experiments The Zimbardo prison experiment was set up to investigate the
problem of what the psychological effects for normal people result from being a guard or
inmate, and in a broader sense are normal people capable of being evil. The research question
being asked was, How would normal people react to being in a simulated prison environment? In
Zimbardo s own words, Suppose you had only kids who were normally healthy, psychologically
and physically, and they knew they would be going into a prison like environment and that some
of their civil rights would be sacrificed. Would those good people, (when) put in that bad, evil place

I personally disagree and when I assert my conclusions at the end, I will explain why.
Dehumanization is taking away an individual s autonomy, their creative and unique aspects of
their personality. The experiment dehumanized all the participants by doing precisely this. By
placing them in an artificial controlled setting where variables were manipulated and allegedly
made them act a certain way due to assumed roles, they were not autonomous, i.e. dehumanized.
If I were a prisoner, especially knowing that it was only a simulation, I would have rebelled (as
some prisoners did) and definitely not become subordinate or tattled on my fellow prisoners. I
know this as I have spent a few days in a real jail before. While I was there I tried to avoid getting
into trouble and the guards didn t provoke me. When they stripped searched me however I asked
the guard doing the search if he was a f**got. I guess I didn t like someone having control over
me like that. Had a guard this real situation provoked me, even knowing the consequences, I
probably would kick his ass. Furthermore, I know I wouldn t act crazy, cry or puss out and act like
my life was ending. I would probably treat this situation pretty comically with a lot of sarcasm
and would probably try to psych out the guards. On the other hand, if I was a guard I definitely
would not have been an asshole like about a third of the guards were, and I wouldn t be a silent
observer or accomplice like

Conflict and Social Order Theory
Social OrderAccording to the social order model, society is given a set of rules to regulate
people behaviors and prevent anomie or normlessness. Society serves the interests of all sharing,
a strong set of norms and values, though not being able to adhere to these cause people to feel
out of place. Most people accept this hierarchy as long as they see the system is fair. However, it
is not fair, and this in turn becomes visible when it comes to occupations. Young people do not
apply to specific jobs because they assume their qualifications are not well built enough to obtain
certain positions and therefore are exploited and oppressed in the workforce.

Meryl Streep proved this by telling Anne Hathaway that reason she chose her sweater is because
society, in this case the world of fashion, claims that the fashion and colour of the sweater is the
in style. Meryl demonstrated that Anne chose a sweater without putting much thought into it,
but in fact here thoughts were already shaped for her by what society had previously claimed to
be the in style. Anne did not realize that the act of something as simple as choosing a sweater,
because she liked the look or colour, was determined by previous causes that are external from
her. This shows peoples actions are highly predictable and that human behaviors are the result of
social causes and not of free will. October 29, 2007How does a skeptical read of the article reveal

Steve Jobs And The Computer Industry
Steve Jobs Steve Jobs career began in a blink of an eye. He was well known for all his amazing
products such as apple 1, apple 2, mackintosh, etc. He also purchased an animation company from
George Lucas, which later became Pixar Animation Studios. He invested money into the company
out of his own pocket. The studio went on to produce popular movies. Jobs had many people help
him build what he has today especially with the help of Steve Wozniak(Steve, n.d.). Together they
changed the computer industry. Jobs was very successful but like everyone else he had to start
from nothing and his company made billions when he was just 21. He has an amazing story to tell
about his life, career, and how he left a big impact in the computer industry.

Essay on The Civil War in Kenya
In early 1964, less than one month after independence, Kenya found itself in the midst of a civil
war. Riots, attacks on police stations, and assassinations quickly placed the Northern Frontier
District (NFD) under a state of emergency as pre existent conflicts escalated. British political
decisions from the colonial era played the largest role in dividing the country between the newly
formed Kenyan government and the Somalis of northern Kenya, who desired to unite with the
Somali Republic. In an attempt to marginalize the secessionist movement, President Jomo Kenyatta
coined the term shifta, or bandit in Oromo, to classify the military wing of the Northern Province

By the time Britain granted Kenya independence, the government realized that secession of the
NFD would benefit both Kenyans and Somalis. A Pan Somali movement had been fermenting in
the Horn of Africa as early as 1946, when British Foreign Secretary Ernest Bevin suggested the
creation of a Greater Somalia ( Pursuing Pastoralists ). Kenyan Somalis assumed that independence
was tantamount to secession, but their aspirations were crushed by President Jomo Kenyatta s
declaration that Kenya will never surrender any inch of her territory to anyone ( The Somali
Dispute: Kenya Beware ). This statement was made despite the results of a 1962 commission of
inquiry, reporting that over 87% of the NFD population favored secession ( Being Oromo in Kenya
). The Human Rights Watch reports that the locals were routinely rounded up and interrogated.
Thousands of Kenyan Somalis were beaten by the security forces and accused by the acting District
Commissioner of harboring anti government elements ( Kenya ). Kenyatta s intransigent policies
and the political separation of Kenyans and Somalis during the colonial era constituted the largest
causal factor of the Shifta War. The groundwork of post colonial Kenya was further stressed by
radical economic disparities between Kenyans and Somalis. Ethnic Somalis acquired resources
through nomadic pastoralism, and hoped to continue their practices regardless of state

Unmanned Aerial Vehicles ( Uav )
Drones, also known as unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), are pilotless and non crewed aircraft
that are capable of flight either by remote control or through the use of on board computers.
Other names for these types of aircraft are remotely piloted vehicle (RPV), remotely piloted
aircraft (RPA), and remotely operated aircraft (ROA). Drones are commonly used by the
military, but are also being implemented in search and rescue operations and being utilized in
other civil applications, such as policing and firefighting. The technology is also allowing for
hobbyists and other enthusiasts to become avid drone operators, albeit on a relatively smaller
scale. During the American Civil War, an inventor patented an unmanned balloon that carried
explosives that could be dropped after a time delay fuse mechanism triggered the basket to
overturn its contents. Air currents and weather patterns made it difficult to estimate for how long
to set the fuse, and the balloon was never successfully deployed. By 1883, the first aerial
photograph was taken using a kite, a camera and a very long string attached to the shutter release
of the camera. In 1898, this technology was put to use in the Spanish American War, resulting in
the first military aerial reconnaissance photos. World War I saw the development and testing of
various radio controlled unmanned aircraft, but none emerged from the testing phase in time to be
used before the war ended. In the¬ 1930s, the British Royal Navy developed a

Consumer s Influence On Consumer Behavior
In today s culture, consumers are very much in charge of their decisions in regards to purchasing.
Advancements in technology have not only allowed consumers the capability to research, price

based on data collection and past purchase history. Given that consumers have the purchase power
in today s society, many businesses have implemented situational factors to influence a consumers

Advertising for brand familiarity is done best through television campaigns and brand familiarity is
often gained through repetition of the advertisement. Marketers also focus on visual images that
associate a consumer with a particular product as these are easily remembered. Examples of this
type of branding include the McDonalds Golden Arches or the Target bulls eye (Procter, 2000, p.
144 169).High levels of purchase involvement are related to those products that typically have a
higher cost, are bought infrequently and are reflective of the purchaser. In order to gain traction in
this category, marketers often promote the positive and beneficial attributes of the brand, promote
the product through advertising and have a heavy reliance on sale personnel endorsement.
Examples of purchase that have a high level purchase involvement include technology products and
cars (Chavis, 2010, Involvement Level and Effect). Situational factors are also used to sway
consumers buying behaviors. Examples of situational factors include lighting, smell and sound.
Marketers must be cognizant of not over stimulating the senses when using situational factors to
influence buying behavior. Over stimulation will result in fewer purchases, an obvious negative
response for businesses. Lighting and product placement is often used within stores to enhance
products or attract customers. Window displays using bright vertical

The Importance Of Environmental Change On The Environment
Environmental change on the planet can be caused by different exercises. At the point when
environmental change happens; temperatures can expand a significantly. At the point when
temperature rises, a wide range of changes can happen on Earth. For instance, it can bring about
more surges, dry seasons, or extraordinary rain, and in addition more continuous and extreme
warmth waves. Seas and icy masses have additionally encountered a few changes: seas are
warming and ending up more acidic, ice sheets are dissolving, and ocean levels are rising. As these
progressions regularly happen in future decades, they will probably exhibit difficulties to our
general public and condition.
Amid the previous century, human exercises have discharged a lot of carbon dioxide and other
nursery gasses into the air. The vast majority of the gasses originate from consuming petroleum
derivatives to deliver vitality. Nursery gasses resemble a cover around the Earth, catching vitality in
the climate and making it warm. This is known as the nursery impact and it is characteristic and
important to help life on earth. Be that as it may, while nursery gasses development, the atmosphere
changes and result in perilous impacts to human wellbeing and biological communities. Individuals
have adjusted to the steady atmosphere we have appreciated since the last ice age which finished a

Media Family Law Research Paper
Media Family Law Attorney: The Law Office of Shawn K. Page:
Matrimonial law, which is more commonly known as family law, is the legal field under which
anything to do with the family unit is classified. For example, divorces, legal separations,
alimony, child abuse, surrogacy or adoption as well as paternity issues fall into this field of law.
This category of law is vitally important when it comes to living life on a day to day basis as it can
greatly alter the family unit.

divorce proceedings, though. In many cases, they are independent of a relationship and are opened

Other Family Law Matters:
Adoption is another reason to seek the service of a family law attorney. The many forms and

Analysis Of The Article Degrading And De Grading
Alfie Kohn discussed multiple fabulous points in his article, Degrading to De Grading . The author
suggests more effective ways to assess students progress other than numerical or letter grades. Kohn
goes into detail about why our current grading system is flawed. Grades can cause students to lose
interest in learning which causes them to stop taking challenges. If students are not engaged and
interested than they are not retaining the information they are being taught. The grading system can
also cause students to develop unhealthy competition with one another for instance, I got a better
gradethan you! . Indeed, grades are a wonderful concept, but they tend to be more hurtful than
helpful. In some cases, grades can have positive effects on students. For example, setting goals for
various assignments, or receiving help where they are struggling. Though, there are alternatives that
could make positive changes in the system.
Students lose focus when their teacher makes comments such as You ll need to know this for the
test or Pay attention you re going to need to know this . Students are more likely to view it as a
chore. Study after study has found that students from elementary school to graduate school, and
across cultures demonstrate less interest in learning as a result of being graded (Kohn, 167).
Therefore, students don t take on challenging tasks. Instead, they will look for the easiest possible
route. Thus, students who cut corners may not be lazy so

Some eBay sellers fear Amazon because of their obligatory return policy, called the A z Guarantee.

The eBay seller is free to fight it out with buyers with a dispute resolution. This could ultimately

sellers to use PayPal for payments though, your funds could be held or you may even receive a

Sistine Chapel Ceiling Research Paper
Throughout the centuries civilizations have produced men and women of extreme talent. The
extraordinary works they created can define a period such as the cave art of ancient man or modern
art representing cultures of today. The High Renaissance period was just such a time of expression.
A period joining together the enlightenment and modernity of western civilization in master works
of art, music and literature. Artistic brilliance secured in the disciplines they practiced influencing
generations that will follow.
One such story is of Sistine Chapel ceiling painting. Located in the Vatican, Italyby 1477 a new
renovation of the chapel was begun by Pope Sixtus IV lasting until 1480. He employed famous
artists of the day such as Pietro Perugino, Sandro Botticelli, Domenico Ghirlandaio and
Pinturicchio who painting the walls with fresco of biblical stories. The ceiling was originally

The subject matter is from the Old Testament depicting scenes from the Book of Genesis, 7
Prophets and 5 Sibyls (women soothsayers or oracles). Overall 300 figures adorn the beautiful
ceiling set in fresco in an area of 5808 square feet. The most famous panel is located in the center
of the ceiling depicting God giving life to Adam. Even more famous are the hands which are so
emotive and iconic usually associated with humanity. For the artist the human hand and foot are
considered the most difficult to master. Michelangelo manages to use them to express mood and
movement astonishing well in all of the figures considering he did not consider himself a painter!
Even his sculptures use hand and foot position to great effect. Interestingly, it has been noted on the
panel the drape behind the image of God appears to be an outline of the human brain. Dr. Frank
Lynn Meshberger has interpreted this as an hypothesis that Michelangelo intended to evoke God s
gift of intelligence on the first human

Gertrude And Ophelia And Hamlet Character Analysis
Imagine being told that you are loved, and then are treated like you are worth nothing. This is a
reality for the women in Hamlet written by William Shakespeare; Gertrude and Ophelia. Women in
the 1600s were seen as objects with no value and were only there for the convenience of the male
in their life. Gertrudeand Ophelia are the only two female characters in the play, and there are many
males in the play that treat them with disrespect. Hamletis the big offender of these two women in
the play. The relationship between Ophelia and Hamlet is confusing because it goes back and
forth, where Hamlet loves Ophelia, to where he never loved her, disrespecting her beyond
belief. Gertrude, Hamlet s mother, is married to Claudius, King Hamlet s brother, and this
frustrates Hamlet. Hamlet lashes out at Gertrude for this marriage, being mistreated by her own
son. In Hamlet, both main characters are portrayed as objects with little to no significance and
are treated with no respect by their male counterparts. Ophelia, Hamlet s lustful partner, is shown
the most disrespect throughout the play. Ophelia s whole life is centered around her father, and
the play allows Ophelia no mind of her own; instead it has her minding her father s precepts
(Johnson 111). This is supported by the text when she says, I do not know, my lord, what I
should think (1.3.113). She just tries to please her father. Ophelia admits to Polonius that she has
a relationship with Hamlet and he exclaims, In few, Ophelia,/ Do not believe his vows (1.3.135
136). He wants her to have nothing to do with Hamlet and she simply obeys. One things is clear to
her auditors, however: whatever she is saying, it relates to her father (Johnson 112). This is one of
many mistreatments she gets by men in the play. Hamlet and Ophelia are having a lustful
relationship where the lovebetween them is not mutual, where Ophelia loves him, but Hamlet
does not reciprocate. In the beginning of the play, Ophelia receives a letter from Hamlet which
says, Doubt thou the stars are fire,/ Doubt that the sun doth move,/ Doubt truth to be a liar,/ But
never doubt I love./ O dear Ophelia, I am ill at these numbers. I have not /art to reckon my groans,
but that I love

Freestyle Swimming Is A Category For A Swim Competition
Freestyle swimming is a category for a swim competition. Swimming has known to be around for
more than 10,000 years and freestyle swimming was one of the most common forms of
swimming. In the 1830 s swimming became more of a competitive sport. By 1837 the NSS was
holding swimming competitions in England. The sport grew popular in the 1880 s and there was
three hundred regional clubs across the country.
International Swimming Federation (FINA), had the rules of what freestyle is. It had said freestyle
is just a choice of the swimming technique you can use. (Wikipedia.com) Freestyle races are the
most common of all the styles. Mainly during freestyle races the front crawl technique was used
because it was usually the fastest. Even though during a freestyle race, the racer can chose which
style they want, It is not common to see the dog paddle or the sidestroke. Then besides the front
crawl it is common to see breaststroke, butterfly, and the backstroke being used. But the styles have
the most speed would be the front crawl or the australian, which are the most picks for any races
and competitions.
The first Olympic Games were a male only competition. In Paris is where the second Olympic
Game was held. The 4000 m freestyle competition was the long swimming race until the 10k swim
competition was brought in 2008. FINA the swimming association was formed in 1908. Freestyle

However, its argued that the improvement of females in education could be the result of the decline
of males, therefore making the gap between gender differences not that significant.
Secondly, the interaction between teachers and male and female students. Sociologist Francis
(2000) argues that classrooms are still male dominated and that boys are disciplined more
frequently and harshly by teachers compared to girls. Therefore, it is seen that boys get more
attention than girls as they are disciplined more harshly than girls, leading to girls getting less
attention than boys, also in terms of ethnicity, boys from African Caribbean backgrounds are also
more likely to be disciplined than white British boys. This may result in boys feeling picked on in
school which may result in gender and ethnic differences in achievement.
On the other hand, many sociologists have argued the importance of external factors in influencing
gender differences in achievement. Feminism strives for equality in society for men and women
and has questioned the typical role of males and females in society and challenges the role of
women being the housewife. Feminists have had a great influence on improving girls self esteem

Sickle Cell Disease And Its Effects
Sickle Cell Disease Sickle cell disease affects approximately 100,000 Americans and millions
across the globe (Sobota, 2015). The three most common types of sickle cell disease are Hb SS
(sickle cell anemia), Hb SC, and Hb S beta thalassemia, with Hb SS being the most common type
(Harris, 2001). Sickle cell disease occurs in individuals who inherit the mutated hemoglobin
gene, from one or both of their parents. The mutated hemoglobin, known as Hb S, crystalizes
and join together into many small cords, which form chains that look like twisted wires (Harris,
2001, p. 20). Stretched to contain the Hb S crystals, the red blood cells take on spike and sickle
shapes; this is how the name for the disease came about (Harris, 2001). Deformed, the sickled
cells have a hard time moving through the blood stream and can eventually pile up in the blood
vessels, having life threatening consequences. Although oxygen can reverse the sickling process
in cells, turning Hb S back into a liquid, after a few sicklings the red blood cells membrane is
permanently damaged and the cell will remain sickled. The History of Sickle Cell Disease
American physician James Herrick was the first to describe sickle cell disease. In 1910, Herrick
observed peculiar elongated and sickle shaped red blood corpuscles in the blood film of a West
Indian student suffering from leg ulcers, shortness of breath, and jaundice (Chakravorty Williams,
2015, p. 48). In 1922, three more similar case were observed and

interaction and information dissemination. From a social web data mining perspective, Facebook

In this section, we discuss the recent research work related to techniques for predicting age, gender
and personality based on the information available on social networking sites. Most studies predict
personality from the language used by a person to update status or chat in social network.
According to recent works based on study of function words such as pronouns, conjunctions,
articles and prepositions, the elderly use more future tense words and pronouns in their plural
forms. The same studies show that males use more articles and females make heavy use of first
person singular pronouns. In [7], the authors state that even with its challenges, text
categorization is a reliable approach to identify the age and gender of people in social network
communication. Goldbeck et al., in [3], show that people of different age groups talked about
different topics. For example, those within the age group of 13 to 18 mostly discussed activities
related to school, 19 to 22 year olds talked about university/college.
Many efforts have been made by researchers to analyze the words used by humans to understand
their psychology [2]. Public information of a group of Facebook users was collected by the
authors of [6]. They were able to predict the Big five personality traits of the users using this data
within 89% accuracy.

San Francisco, a thriving city in the early 1900s. Gaining its wealth from the gold rush that

Francisco was at a very good economical place, being a rapidly growing city with a large

Addictions, Depression and Anxiety
One of the reasons that depression and anxiety occur so often with an addiction is because patients

Appalachia is a 205,000 square mile region that follows the spine of the Appalachian Mountains

Appalachia Mountains are rich in natural resources, containing an abundant number of coal, timber,

economic characteristics of the region. The region s economy has been highly dependent on

Bulimia Nervosa Effect
Cause and Effect Essay Bulimia Nervosa is a psychological and severe life threatening eating
disorder described by the ingestion of large amounts of food in a small amount and then doing
things such as misusing laxatives and self induced vomiting.
Bulimia Nervosa can be caused by abuse and/or trauma. For instance, a woman could be in an
abusive relationship where the man is constantly calling her fat. She may binge eat and then purge
right after to lose the weight. Purging is the act of trying to control body weight by misuse of
laxatives, self induced vomiting, or diuretics.
Another cause of Bulimia nervosa could be having a job or profession that focuses on body image.
An example of this is: a man going for an interview at a modeling agency. The manager says
everything about the man is perfect except his excess body fat around his abdomen. So he begins
to binge eat for about a day and then vomits for a day. Binge eating is the process of eating more

I carried this with me for decades. And then I decided to become a Warrior instead of a victim
statistic. I broke the cycle (Unknown). Child abuse is the harming of a child that causes extreme
injury, emotional instability, or even death. Neglect is a form of child abuse where a parent
does not provide the proper care that a child needs to successfully grow and develop. Child
molestation is another form of child abuse, and involves an adult or older adolescent using a child
for their own sexual pleasure. There are thousands of cases being reported every year. However,
we may never know the exact number of cases. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is indeed heinous to hear an innocent child cry out and that person continues to harm. All child
molesters, and abusers need to have severe punishments, and to be off of the street. Children who
get molested and/or abused, suffer from long term problems that include depression, and trouble
forming relationships. This tragic incident can also take years to get over, if not, haunt them for the
rest of their lives.
Today, convictions of child molestation can already be severe. This depends on the state.
According to Criminal Defense Lawyer (NOLO), in Georgia, a person accused of molesting a
child can have a sentence of 5 to 25 years for their first offense. Any other similar crimes
committed by the same criminal, can cause them to have a sentence of 10 years to life. The
penal code for any libidinous acts with a child 14 years of age and younger, in California,
includes a sentence of up to 8 years, for each felony count against that person. Every separate act
is its own felony charge. Also, any sexual intercourse with someone under the age of 10, will be
punished with a sentence of up to 25 years to years. In Ohio, any who rapes a child under the age
of 13 is to have time in prison, or a life sentence, even if the person did not know the child s
correct age. Child sexual abusers will also have to register themselves as a sex offender. This
includes, the person s name, and location. Anyone will be able to look this information up.

Why Kids Should Be Able To Graduate In Three Years
Every year, over 1.2 million students drop out of high school in the United States alone. That s a
student every 26 seconds or 7,000 a day. Students should be able to graduate in three years because
some kids want to go to college as early as possible, it would allow people to get better jobs at a

Students should be able to graduate in three years because a lot of kids want to go to college as early

Oryx And Crake Argumentative Essay
Genetic engineering or genetic enhancement refers to the transfer of genetic material intended to
modify nonpathological human traits (Hanna 1). These enhancements are used to modify human
embryos and during gene therapy. There are currently two different approaches to gene
manipulation, embryo elimination or genetic alteration. There is a choice of either disposing of an
embryo because it has a genetic defect or genetic alterations which are removing traits or enhancing
them. Modifying human embryos and genetherapy should only be used for medical reasons because
it will reduce health problems like birth defects or fatal incurable diseases thus eliminating the
suffering and pain of both the children and their parents.

These therapies have existed for a few diseases since 2012 and research is continuing. As this

eliminate a disease like cystic fibrosis which is caused by one faulty gene. This falls within the
criteria of health related gene therapy. However, if it becomes possible for athletes to use gene

Race Relations Between White Americans And African...
The end of the Civil War brought the United States of America into a period of change and
reconstruction. Race relations between White Americans and African Americans were being
formed and it was still unknown how the two groups would coexist in this new era. One major
change, the black codes, came about as white society and southern states retaliated against the
abolishment of slaveryand the loss of their previous lifestyle. Although slaves had been set free and
southerners no longer had the right to own human beings as property, the black codes were passed
to suppress African Americans freedom and prevent them from prospering. These laws included the
requirements for African Americans to observe a curfew, sign labor contracts and be

The Pros And Cons Of Gusdur Government
Society examines the social, political, cultural and historical aspects of ideologies, the nature, and
especially the role in the reproduction of, or resistance against, dominance. In Gusdur

to the people to step up and provided the opportunity for minorities in Indonesia. However,
because of this, people began to experience confusion and indecision. Yet the government never

Industrial Development And Population Growth
Industrial development and population growth have created a surge in global demand for energy.
The tension in the Middle East and the sharp rise in oil prices since the 1990 s had Western
countries like the US scrambling to secure alternative energy sources. While solar and wind energy
is flourishing, energy industries have pursued more aggressive means of tapping the earth s
resources. Continued mining, drilling, and especially hydraulic fracturing have been a game
changer for the US. Although industrialized energy developmentis making great strides in
harnessing the earth s energy resources, it is also threatening the natural environment and the
quality of life in many communities.
Fracking refers to hydraulic or hydro fracturing of rock formations to stimulate and extract natural
gas and oil. The process involves drilling down through sedimentary rocks for thousands of feet,
then sideways for miles, pumping millions of gallons of water, sand, and chemicals at high
pressure to open fractures in the rocks, allowing gas and oil to flow. This relatively new
technology is also being used for resource exploration by geothermal developers. Prior to
fracking, it was too expensive to exploit shale gas , but it is now being viewed as a way for the
United States (US) to become independent from foreign oil. Fracking also brings a host of new
public health and environmental concerns; drilling chemicals and fracking fluids are highly toxic
and include known carcinogens.

Evaluating The Impact Of The Internet On Publishers And...
Evaluating the Impact of the Internet on Publishers and Bookstores Using the value change model
to evaluate the impact of the internet requires specific activities to be identified as to where
information systems can be best utilized with a competitive strategic impact to company s market
share and bottom line. This requires these basic activities be viewed as a series of activities that add
value to the company s products or services being offered (Laudon Laudon, 2014, p. 101).
According to (Laudon, 2014) these systems within the company must be identified as either a
primary or a support activity including external value partners outside the firm. The Primary
activity of B N is to sell books, which information systems play an intricate role in the
accomplishment of this. Not having these information systems in place would almost guarantee of
failure. Therefore, implementing these technological information systems will create value, to not
only the company but also customers alike. The following list of primary activities is considered
the core systems necessary for production and distribution. Inbound Logistics Atomization of the
warehousing operations Operations This would include such things as automated machining
systems Sales and Marketing Allows for a web based ordering system, thus increasing speed.
Service Computer Management Maintenance Systems (CMMS), which assists in the planning,

Self-Destruction In Hamlet
Hamlet, a tragic hero with a feigned madness seeking revenge for his deceased father, kills
everyone in his path and finally succeeded in taking vengeance for the murder of his father by
killing the murderer, Claudius for good. Hamlet s consistent desire to seek revenge for his father s
murderer, led him to foreseeable yet tragic downfall. In Hamlet, Shakespeare utilizes the acts of
revenge throughout the play to show self destruction and confliction in through characters such as
Hamlet.
The theme of revenge causing self destruction is established in act two of the book by Hamlet
himself. Hamlet proclaims: O, vengeance! Why, what an ass am I! This is most brave, That I,
the son of a dear father murder d, Prompted to my revenge by heaven and hell, Must, like a

Running Out Of Time Literary Analysis
The two books The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum and Running Out of Time by
Margaret Peterson Haddix have very similar settings. While Dorothy travels to a strange land
called the land of Oz, Jessie travels out of her 1840 s village and back to the current time of 1996.
While both girls need to learn how to interact with situations they aren t used to but they use
different methods. Also the girls have totally different reasons as to why they are there and while
they are there they are trying to accomplish different things. The two books have very similar
Author s choice in setting. In The Wonderful Wizard of OzDorothy is swept away from her home in
Kansas in a huge twister. She lands in a world called the land of ozfilled with people who look
different and act differently. Dorothy doesn t know anybody and she has no idea where she is.
She has to find a way to blend in and get to the wizard (Oz) so she can get back home to kansas
and her aunt and uncle. While she stood looking eagerly at the strange and beautiful sights, she
noticed coming towards her a small group of the queerest people she d ever seen. (Baum, page 5)

Legal Representation In Court Cases
As the need for legal representation continues to grow across all segments of our population,
new and innovative types of legal representation have developed. Limited scope representation,
or discrete task representation, allows an attorney to represent a person only in agreed upon
portions of his or her legal case. California Rule of Court 3.35 specifically defines limited scope
representation as a relationship between an attorney and a person seeking legal services in which
they have agreed that the scope of the legal services will be limited to the specific tasks that the
attorney will perform for the person. This method of legal representation provides not only a way
for individuals to decrease their legal costs, but also to exert greater control over and... Show more

For instance, in a divorce, an individual might hire a California family law attorney on a limited
scope basis to handle the property division aspects of a divorce, such as the division of a spouse
s pension. However, the individual might decide to handle all of the other aspects of the divorce
himself or herself, such as custody, visitation and child support, particularly if the parties are
already in agreement on those issues. Not every type of legal matter is suitable for limited scope
representation. Some legal issues tend to be extremely complex and necessitate a degree of
expertise that only an attorney can offer. The types of cases that traditionally work well with
limited scope representation include family law matters, landlord tenant disputes, and certain
consumer advocacy cases. By engaging an attorney on a limited scope, an individual who
normally could not afford to hire an attorney has access to at least some degree of legal

St. Augustine Free Will Analysis
It s Your Choice
St. Augustine answered a question, which was, why did God give freedom of the will to men
since it is by this that men sin? His answer was, basically maybe God did not really give us
freewill for us to sin, but something bigger, such as reward and punishment. We chose to do good
or bad knowing that rewards and punishments comes from either one. God did not give freewill, but
this is something that just had to come about for being a human being is what I grasp to
understand from St. Augustine. I agree with St. Augustine because even though we may have
come from God, it is still a choice to do good or bad. Evodius was saying what if God had not
made it where we could chose to sin, what he failed to understand is that we would still have to
choose to do good, even if that is the only choice. In this paper I will give supporting facts on
how St. Augustine answered the question and understanding on how I agree with what he said.
In Introducing Philosophy St. Augustine said, I want to ask, as well: do you know this clearly,
or do you believe it willingly without really knowing it, because you ae prompted by authority.
(Page 436 Solomon). This quote I believe help me defend why St. Augustine had a justified point,
because Evodius exulting his right of freewill, when he was saying that freewill basically help

Hence it is extremely important to manage stakeholders efficiently at every stage of the

stakeholders have the power of either blocking your business or letting it roll successfully. You
business also depends on their interest as some may be interested in what the business is doing
and how is it performing however some stakeholders will not even care about your business. For
example you are into a project in which your boss will be extremely interested and so will be
your family; however an outsider not directly related to you will not be as interested. Similarly in

results showed that the mere exposure based group significantly increased both liking and

Another study looked at the effects of media images on television and the effects it has on female
s perception of their body image. In this study, the participants were asked how many hours of
television they watched a day, then how many of these programmes were ones with characters in
that have perfect physiques, such as 90210 etc. then the bmi of each participant was taken and was
compared with how much television they watched and how much of this television contained
media of body images. The results in this study suggested that the media did have an impact on
body dissatisfaction. Adolescent girls based their ideal body images on characters on the television
that have the perfect skinny body image. When the participants questioned their body image after
the exposure, it made them feel worse about themselves and strive to have the perfect body image.

There also seems to be a lot more media in relation to the perfect female body image compared to
the male body image. Also, a lot more females seem to be known for having eating disorders in the
media than males.

the industry. Many directors and writers are creating works of art, in which they pour their feelings

  • 2. Types Of Transport Within A Cell There are many different types of transport within a cell that can end up being very complex. On the outside of the cell is the plasma membrane that protects it from the outside environment. The plasma membrane is very picky about what it allows through it. It wants to let in oxygen and nutrients, but keep out harmful bacteria. It also wants to keep in the proteins and nutrients that are already in the membrane. Because of this property, the plasma membrane is called a selectively permeable membrane and it has two basic transport processes. In passive transport processes it is the concentration differences that drives the movement. The two passive transports are diffusionand filtration. In active transport processes the cell provides energy in the form of Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP) to power the process. The two active transport processes are primary which is driven directly by ATP or secondary which is driven indirectly by ATP (Marieb P61). For the most part, molecules will diffuse passively through the plasma membrane if they are small enough, but they must be aided by a concentration gradient. A concentration gradient is when there is a difference in concentration of a substance from one area to another (Amerman P75). This property of the plasma membrane is critical to the cell. Without this property the cell would not be able to exchange the oxygen and nutrients it needs to with the extracellular fluid (the fluid located in the spaces between the cells). The ... • 3. Meaning Of The Ancreon Song Francis Scott Key was an American lawyer that had boarded the British ship of their fleet to persuade the British to release one of his friends who had been recently been arrested. Even though he got what he had hoped for, the British refused to let them go. This is due to them already having knowledge of the the attack that was about to occur. Therefore, under the British s watch, the British allowed them to return to their ship. Under the watch of the British, Key witnessed the bombardment on Fort Mc Henry. On the night of September 13, 1814, as he sat and watched, he continued to view the distinct pictures that were there. This includes: clearing smoke, darkness, gunshots, and red. (Brinkley 176) Then later, as he continued to watch what was happening on Fort Mc Henry, Key continued to write his thoughts. Watching this, he thought to himself that the British would win, but in reality, it was an American victory. On September 14, he saw the American flag still flying over the fort. (Siegel and Green 30) While still on the ship, Key put all of his thoughts on paper making it into a poem. He named this poem The Defence of Ft. Mc Henry . His poem was a tune of a older song set to The Anacreon Song . Ralph Tomlinson wrote An Anacreon in Heaven that was used as a tone for Key to write his poem. This song was commonly used for the Anacreontic Society. This club consisted of wealthy men who were named after a poet, Anacreon. His poems mainly focused on love and wine. ... • 4. The Face Of Education And The Changes It Has Undertaken... The face of education and the changes it has undertaken throughout history in the U.S. is a constant flow that thus alters the fabric of the American society. To provide an educated workforce for the future has been the job of educators for centuries, but with a greater immigration movement and presence, an educator s ability is limited and the fate of such children are left to suffer. Pulling from America s position as a melting pot of different cultures and people, students should not be subjugated to poverty and educational ignorance just because of their status as an illegal immigrant, a distinction made by the choices of their parents and the situations of their past. Illegal immigration is not by choice to intrude upon another nation, but to secure the individual s rights to better their own life. Through distance and set conditions, immigrants cannot always obtain the documentation necessary to cross borders in a timely manner, causing many to cross the border into a new life without being legal. Upon arriving, the next step is education, preparing to try to fit in with the rest of the society and gain a stepping stone into success, thus the shift of acceptance in education during the Plyler vs. Doe Supreme Court case was fundamental to attain change and support for illegal immigrant families. From the late 1700 s, just after the establishment of the U.S., immigration has been a problem as it allowed the mixing of multiple cultures and ethnicities in a single ... • 5. The Aquariums Of Pyongyang Summary The Aquariums of Pyongyang by Kang Chol Hwan is a memoir about a young boy s life in a North Korean gulag during the dictatorship of Kim Il sung. His story is profoundly touching, recounting his glorious childhood, sudden imprisonment in a labor camp, and successful escape to South Korea. The memoir gives insight to the life of North Koreans from the 1960s to the present, as the dictatorship tightens and the economy fails. The account is the first of its kind and is filled with the unimaginable horrors that have faced generations of North Koreans. Along with his personal story, the author offers his personal criticisms of the government and presents the difficulties in solving the problems that plague the country. His open ended questions allow the reader to think about the North Korean plight instead of only hearing his story and dismissing it as an isolated occurrence. When the memoir was first published in 2000, Kang believed that not many outsiders knew about the abuses of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Though the author s standpoint would seemingly be clear, considering he was on the brink of starvation for ten years in an internment camp, he brings up the shortfalls of offering aid. He believes the issue of distributing food is the only issue up to debate. Most of the food would be given to the ever growing army and the citizens would be left to subsist on meager rations. Additionally, the aid would allow the government to use its funds for military and self serving interests. He acknowledges that, with a situation such as that in North Korea, aiding the population also means maintaining the regime. This problem is just one example of the difficulty of implementing human rights in deprived areas. The question is never whether or not the citizens deserve human rights; rather, it is a question of how to support the people without supporting the oppressive regime as ... • 6. The Social Discourse Of Bipolar Disorder The social discourse of bipolar disorder is often punctuated by the classic manic episodes manifesting as symptoms such as distractibility, pressured speech, decreased need for sleep, euphoric mood, grandiosity, and problems with impulse control [17]. These classic periods of high energy are often intertwined in a cyclical fashion with periods of depressive symptoms, much of the time meeting criteria for major depressive disorder, as well as periods with no symptoms [17]. The frequency by which a patient moves through these states varies greatly from weeks to months to as little as a few days, namely rapid cycling [17]. In addition to manic episodes, hypomanic episodes, characterized by similar symptoms but less severe symptoms than manic episodes, qualify the disease as bipolar II disorder instead of bipolar I which needs the criteria of manic episodes alternating with major depressive episodes [17]. Another subtype of bipolar disorder, cyclothymia, is characterized by depressive episodes that do not meet criteria for a major depressive episode but does consist of cycling with previously described hypomanic episodes [11]. While the stigma of manic episodes plagues patients with bipolar disorder, often the depressive episodes are what cause the most distress and impairment in daily functioning of patients with bipolar disorder [12]. The burden of bipolar disorder, which has an estimated prevalence of 4% worldwide, permeates throughout all aspects of society from the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Essay on Cuban Revolution Almost every nation in the world has experienced a revolution. A revolution can be simply defined as a change. When a country undergoes a revolution, its ideals that it once believed in are being modified. Sometimes revolutionaries act intellectually, yet others may respond physically through destruction. Some may be peaceful, some short lasting, and some pointless. Historians do argue on identifying whether a revolution has occurred. Revolutions usually follow a rupture in the nation s events, are directed by a hero, have an ideology and belief system, and use symbols or tools to get its points across to the people. On December 2, 1956, eighty two men including Castro and the physician Ernesto Che Guevara, set sail once again for the Oriente on their yacht, the Granma. The campaign was doomed from the beginning. Nobody could navigate the boat properly, everybody was seasick, most of the supplies were jettisoned in a storm, and the expedition landed in the wrong place. Hemingway’s Short Stories of Autobiographical, Immature Males Hemingway s Short Stories of Autobiographical, Immature Males Hemingway s short stories Cat in the Rain and The Snows of Kilimanjaro have male characters that are autobiographical. He attempted to dispel criticism of his short stories as autobiographical because Hemingway did not care for critics. His focus on his work as art ignores the autobiographical and psychological content he depended upon to develop characters. His characters are judged by the female characters of the short stories in the same way Hemingway was judged by his wives. Hemingway ignored the instinctual facts of life in his own relationship and relived the conflict and break ups he consequently experienced in his short stories and on film. His multiple marriages are evidence of his recurring denial of the need to address the nesting instinct, whether with child or cat, in the woman he first married and that ignorance is repeated by the autobiographical characters in his writings. Bickford Sylvester, in his article Winner Take Nothing: Development as Dilemma for the Hemingway Heroine notes that Males and females in individual stories of this work both experience betrayal and disillusionment. In The End of Something, Cat in the Rain, and Out of Season, a girl or young woman learns that she must live without the support of an adequate male or the supposed securities of the institutions of love and marriage. Her most cherished natural and social expectations are thus exposed as false. And each of these young females of the composite comes off as a sympathetically portrayed victim, uniformly stronger and more honest with herself than is the male she wishes to share her life with. (74) The female character is more mature and in a position to judge the immaturity of the inadequate male. This weakness as a sign of immaturity in Hemingway s male characters is pointed out by David Lodge in his analysis of Cat in the Rain when he states, The wife, looking out of the window at a scene ... • 11. Public Law And Private Law INTRODUCTION The subject of law encompasses a wide area and covers a variety of issues and agenda. For the convenience of readers and learners of this subject, it is classified into various categories. Civil Law and Criminal Law Public Law and Private Law Substantive Law and Procedural Law Municipal Law and International Law The classification between Public Law and Private Law is one of the most important classifications of law. Public Law in general terms has been defined as the law of relations between the individual and state . Holland lays down the simplest test to determine whether the case falls in public law or private law If one of the parties is state, the case falls in the dimension of public law . However, with passing times and more complex issues arising, the scope of public law is going much beyond the normal definition of state as one of the parties . The scope of public law now also involves various other matters such as business regulation. Also, the scope of public law varies from state to state and system to system. While a socialist economy will see private law having a much stronger authority, this will not be the case in a capitalist or a mixed economy state. Major components of Public Law are Constitutional Law Administrative Law Criminal Law Private Law, on the other hand, deals with disputes between parties other than the State. In Zimbardo s own words, Suppose you had only kids who were normally healthy, psychologically and physically, and they knew they would be going into a prison like environment and that some of their civil rights would be sacrificed. I personally disagree and when I assert my conclusions at the end, I will explain why. Dehumanization is taking away an individual s autonomy, their creative and unique aspects of their personality. The experiment dehumanized all the participants by doing precisely this. By placing them in an artificial controlled setting where variables were manipulated and allegedly made them act a certain way due to assumed roles, they were not autonomous, i.e. dehumanized. If I were a prisoner, especially knowing that it was only a simulation, I would have rebelled (as some prisoners did) and definitely not become subordinate or tattled on my fellow prisoners. I know this as I have spent a few days in a real jail before. While I was there I tried to avoid getting into trouble and the guards didn t provoke me. When they stripped searched me however I asked the guard doing the search if he was a f**got. I guess I didn t like someone having control over me like that. Had a guard this real situation provoked me, even knowing the consequences, I probably would kick his ass. Furthermore, I know I wouldn t act crazy, cry or puss out and act like my life was ending. I would probably treat this situation pretty comically with a lot of sarcasm and would probably try to psych out the guards. Society serves the interests of all sharing, a strong set of norms and values, though not being able to adhere to these cause people to feel out of place. Most people accept this hierarchy as long as they see the system is fair. However, it is not fair, and this in turn becomes visible when it comes to occupations. Young people do not apply to specific jobs because they assume their qualifications are not well built enough to obtain certain positions and therefore are exploited and oppressed in the workforce. Anne did not realize that the act of something as simple as choosing a sweater, because she liked the look or colour, was determined by previous causes that are external from her. He invested money into the company out of his own pocket. The studio went on to produce popular movies. Jobs had many people help him build what he has today especially with the help of Steve Wozniak(Steve, n.d.). Together they changed the computer industry. Jobs was very successful but like everyone else he had to start from nothing and his company made billions when he was just 21. Riots, attacks on police stations, and assassinations quickly placed the Northern Frontier District (NFD) under a state of emergency as pre existent conflicts escalated. British political decisions from the colonial era played the largest role in dividing the country between the newly formed Kenyan government and the Somalis of northern Kenya, who desired to unite with the Somali Republic. In an attempt to marginalize the secessionist movement, President Jomo Kenyatta coined the term shifta, or bandit in Oromo, to classify the military wing of the Northern Province People s Progressive Party (NPPPP) in charge of anti government... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By the time Britain granted Kenya independence, the government realized that secession of the NFD would benefit both Kenyans and Somalis. A Pan Somali movement had been fermenting in the Horn of Africa as early as 1946, when British Foreign Secretary Ernest Bevin suggested the creation of a Greater Somalia ( Pursuing Pastoralists ). Kenyan Somalis assumed that independence was tantamount to secession, but their aspirations were crushed by President Jomo Kenyatta s declaration that Kenya will never surrender any inch of her territory to anyone ( The Somali Dispute: Kenya Beware ). This statement was made despite the results of a 1962 commission of inquiry, reporting that over 87% of the NFD population favored secession ( Being Oromo in Kenya ). The Human Rights Watch reports that the locals were routinely rounded up and interrogated. Thousands of Kenyan Somalis were beaten by the security forces and accused by the acting District Commissioner of harboring anti government elements ( Kenya ). Kenyatta s intransigent policies and the political separation of Kenyans and Somalis during the colonial era constituted the largest causal factor of the Shifta War. The groundwork of post colonial Kenya was further stressed by radical economic disparities between Kenyans and Somalis. Ethnic Somalis acquired resources through nomadic pastoralism, and hoped to continue their practices regardless of state ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 16. Unmanned Aerial Vehicles ( Uav ) Drones, also known as unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), are pilotless and non crewed aircraft that are capable of flight either by remote control or through the use of on board computers. Other names for these types of aircraft are remotely piloted vehicle (RPV), remotely piloted aircraft (RPA), and remotely operated aircraft (ROA). Drones are commonly used by the military, but are also being implemented in search and rescue operations and being utilized in other civil applications, such as policing and firefighting. The technology is also allowing for hobbyists and other enthusiasts to become avid drone operators, albeit on a relatively smaller scale. During the American Civil War, an inventor patented an unmanned balloon that carried explosives that could be dropped after a time delay fuse mechanism triggered the basket to overturn its contents. Air currents and weather patterns made it difficult to estimate for how long to set the fuse, and the balloon was never successfully deployed. By 1883, the first aerial photograph was taken using a kite, a camera and a very long string attached to the shutter release of the camera. In 1898, this technology was put to use in the Spanish American War, resulting in the first military aerial reconnaissance photos. • 20. Analysis Of The Article Degrading And De Grading Alfie Kohn discussed multiple fabulous points in his article, Degrading to De Grading . The author suggests more effective ways to assess students progress other than numerical or letter grades. Kohn goes into detail about why our current grading system is flawed. Grades can cause students to lose interest in learning which causes them to stop taking challenges. If students are not engaged and interested than they are not retaining the information they are being taught. The grading system can also cause students to develop unhealthy competition with one another for instance, I got a better gradethan you! . Indeed, grades are a wonderful concept, but they tend to be more hurtful than helpful. In some cases, grades can have positive effects on students. For example, setting goals for various assignments, or receiving help where they are struggling. Though, there are alternatives that could make positive changes in the system. Students lose focus when their teacher makes comments such as You ll need to know this for the test or Pay attention you re going to need to know this . Students are more likely to view it as a chore. Study after study has found that students from elementary school to graduate school, and across cultures demonstrate less interest in learning as a result of being graded (Kohn, 167). Therefore, students don t take on challenging tasks. Instead, they will look for the easiest possible route. Thus, students who cut corners may not be lazy so ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This guarantee allows the buyer to receive a full refund if the item is materially different from that described, for up to 90 days. Amazon will usually side with the buyer. Sounds pretty tough. The eBay seller is free to fight it out with buyers with a dispute resolution. This could ultimately result in negative feedback for the seller. They are not required to offer a refund. • 24. Gertrude And Ophelia And Hamlet Character Analysis Imagine being told that you are loved, and then are treated like you are worth nothing. This is a reality for the women in Hamlet written by William Shakespeare; Gertrude and Ophelia. Women in the 1600s were seen as objects with no value and were only there for the convenience of the male in their life. Gertrudeand Ophelia are the only two female characters in the play, and there are many males in the play that treat them with disrespect. Hamletis the big offender of these two women in the play. The relationship between Ophelia and Hamlet is confusing because it goes back and forth, where Hamlet loves Ophelia, to where he never loved her, disrespecting her beyond belief. Gertrude, Hamlet s mother, is married to Claudius, King Hamlet s brother, and this frustrates Hamlet. Hamlet lashes out at Gertrude for this marriage, being mistreated by her own son. In Hamlet, both main characters are portrayed as objects with little to no significance and are treated with no respect by their male counterparts. Ophelia, Hamlet s lustful partner, is shown the most disrespect throughout the play. Ophelia s whole life is centered around her father, and the play allows Ophelia no mind of her own; instead it has her minding her father s precepts (Johnson 111). This is supported by the text when she says, I do not know, my lord, what I should think (1.3.113). She just tries to please her father. Ophelia admits to Polonius that she has a relationship with Hamlet and he exclaims, In few, Ophelia,/ Do not believe his vows (1.3.135 136). He wants her to have nothing to do with Hamlet and she simply obeys. One things is clear to her auditors, however: whatever she is saying, it relates to her father (Johnson 112). This is one of many mistreatments she gets by men in the play. Hamlet and Ophelia are having a lustful relationship where the lovebetween them is not mutual, where Ophelia loves him, but Hamlet does not reciprocate. In the beginning of the play, Ophelia receives a letter from Hamlet which says, Doubt thou the stars are fire,/ Doubt that the sun doth move,/ Doubt truth to be a liar,/ But never doubt I love./ O dear Ophelia, I am ill at these numbers. • 27. Sickle Cell Disease And Its Effects Sickle Cell Disease Sickle cell disease affects approximately 100,000 Americans and millions across the globe (Sobota, 2015). The three most common types of sickle cell disease are Hb SS (sickle cell anemia), Hb SC, and Hb S beta thalassemia, with Hb SS being the most common type (Harris, 2001). Sickle cell disease occurs in individuals who inherit the mutated hemoglobin gene, from one or both of their parents. The mutated hemoglobin, known as Hb S, crystalizes and join together into many small cords, which form chains that look like twisted wires (Harris, 2001, p. 20). Stretched to contain the Hb S crystals, the red blood cells take on spike and sickle shapes; this is how the name for the disease came about (Harris, 2001). Deformed, the sickled cells have a hard time moving through the blood stream and can eventually pile up in the blood vessels, having life threatening consequences. Although oxygen can reverse the sickling process in cells, turning Hb S back into a liquid, after a few sicklings the red blood cells membrane is permanently damaged and the cell will remain sickled. The History of Sickle Cell Disease American physician James Herrick was the first to describe sickle cell disease. In 1910, Herrick observed peculiar elongated and sickle shaped red blood corpuscles in the blood film of a West Indian student suffering from leg ulcers, shortness of breath, and jaundice (Chakravorty Williams, 2015, p. 48). All child molesters, and abusers need to have severe punishments, and to be off of the street. This tragic incident can also take years to get over, if not, haunt them for the rest of their lives. Today, convictions of child molestation can already be severe. This depends on the state. According to Criminal Defense Lawyer (NOLO), in Georgia, a person accused of molesting a child can have a sentence of 5 to 25 years for their first offense. Any other similar crimes committed by the same criminal, can cause them to have a sentence of 10 years to life. The penal code for any libidinous acts with a child 14 years of age and younger, in California, includes a sentence of up to 8 years, for each felony count against that person. Every separate act is its own felony charge. Also, any sexual intercourse with someone under the age of 10, will be punished with a sentence of up to 25 years to years.
