Descartes Method Of Radical Doubt
Descartes method of radical doubt focuses upon finding the truth about certain things from a
philosophical perspective in order to truly lay down a foundation for ideas that have the slightest
notion of doubt attached to them. He believed that there was no greater task to perform in philosophy,
than assiduously to seek out, once and for all, the best of all these arguments and to lay them out so
precisely and plainly that henceforth all will take them to be true demonstrations (Meditations, 36).
The two key concepts that Descartes proves using the method of doubt are that the human soul does
not die with the body, and that God exists as mentioned in his Letter of Dedication, since there are
many that don t believe the mentioned concepts because of the fact that they have not been proven or
demonstrated. (Meditations, 35). In order to prove the above, he lays out six Meditations, each
focusing on a different theme that leads us to the knowledge of our mind and of God, so that of all
things that can be known by the human mind, these latter are the most certain and the most evident
(Meditations, 40). By carrying out the method of doubt, we are able to free ourselves from all
prejudices with the intention of being able to withdraw our mind from our senses. In doing so, we set a
base for being able to decipher the truth from the falsity (Meditations, 39). The reasoning to doubt not
only comes from the desire to learn the truth, but to establish anything firm and lasting

Equality 7-2521 Research Paper
Equality 7 2521: A Lone Scholar Living in a Society of Street Sweepers
Robert Green Ingersoll, a lawyer, Civil War veteran, and political leader, once said that It is a blessed
thing that in every age some one had had the individuality enough and courage enough to stand by his
own convictions. In Ayn Rand s novel Anthem, Equality 7 2521 represents this salient being. Equality
has never been destined to be a street sweeper, instead, it is a sinister motive of the Council that
determines his position. This is proven by several aspects throughout the book, encompassing the idea
that Equality has been set aside from society from a young age, Equality is an individual in a
communistic society, and that the Council has had unjust determinations ... Show more content on

Equality is often locked in the cellar as a child, more so than the other children, for being taller and
more intelligent than his teachers. In Anthem s society, It is not good to be different from [your]
brothers, but it is evil to be superior to them (Rand 21). This saying, told to Equality multiple times by
his teachers for excelling in his lessons, indicates that Equality is evil, for being intelligent. He often
understands the subject matter of his lectures before the teachers have even completed the curriculum.
Equality himself states that No single one can possess greater wisdom than the many Scholars who are
elected by all men for their wisdom. Yet [I] can. [I] do (54). Equality is one of the smartest mortals in
his society, and he even goes so far as to say that he is more intellectual than members of the Home of
the Scholars. Equality s treatment by his teachers justifies that his occupation as a street sweeper was a
sinister motive because his intelligence could lead to him surpassing the influence of the Council, if
citizens decide to depend upon the man bringing them new innovations in science and

The Ocean s Influence To The Development Of The Ocean
Bibliographic Information: Smithsonian. Whales only recently evolved into giants when changing ice,
oceans concentrated prey: Analysis of fossil, modern whale s points to when and how whales started
bulking up. ScienceDaily. ScienceDaily, 24 May 2017. . Introduction: After analyzing the fossils or
preserved remains of whales, scientist have determined that whales have only recently evolved to be
the large animals that we know today. Though not sure, the scientist state that the evolutionary shift
was due to the increase of ice sheets in the North. This increase in ice caused a shift in the
concentration of food available in the ocean, increasing the benefits of having a bigger body. This is
important to the scientific community because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The shift in whale size occurred during the beginning of the Ice Age and the increase in ice sheets may
have caused a change in the distribution of food. Before the ice sheets, food would have been evenly
distributed; however, as the ice sheets formed, run off would ve increased the amount of food like krill
and plankton in the water, this increase along with the filter feeding mechanism of the baleen whale
would have given the advantage to larger whale, who would have been able to utilize the dense
aggregations of prey in the water.
Evaluation
A. This study mainly focuses within Big Idea 1, the process of evolution drives the diversity and unity
of life. Within the study, the scientists observed how organism are linked by a common ancestry (1.B)
through cladograms and the width of the skull from fossil records. With these fossils, the scientists
observed the shift of size in the whale s bodies and how organisms from a common ancestor change
and differentiate in structure over time. This allowed for them to see what traits were gained and lost,
causing not only speciation in the organisms but also overall phenotypic changes. Similarly, in this
study, the scientists were able to unveil how life continues to evolve with a changing environment.
Extinctions and speciation occur all the time due to the environment. Though it s not proven, the

Neoliberalism and Australia Essay
Does globalisation imply cultural homogenisation? Your answer should consider specific and local
global media examples and should include reference to the Appadurai and McChesney article in the
course reader. The role of globalization has had a major influence on society and the world, and this
essay will argue it has resulted in cultural homogenization. This can be illustrated through an
introduction to globalization, the consolidation of media, ownership and vested interests, world
standardization and neoliberalism, politics and the media and public service media. Examining the
different views of globalization, including Appadurai and McChesney as well as other sources it can
be clearly understood the negatives arising due to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The source comments on why the market in Australia is so concentrated which include, favourable
monopolistic laws and few safeguard regulations, decreases in funding for public broadcasting,
restrictions preventing new companies from starting in media due to onerous licencing and regulations
preventing new entrants and short term outlook biased toward profits rather than national interest.
(McCutcheon and Pusey 2011). Media concentration also causes only certain views and information to
enter the public sphere, and may be biased instead of impartially examining both sides, as large
corporations follow their own views or agenda. This is why the role of a public broadcasting service is
crucial, which will be discussed later. Consolidation of the media is also closely tied to ownership and
vested interests. Many media companies source their information from a news agency, or news wire
which is a service that provides news from journalists who provide the pipeline of stories, reports and
information to media companies. This pipeline can consist of news stories that are broadcast on
television, newspaper articles, magazine articles and radio stories. (Paterson 2005). In Australia, the
dominant news agency is Australian Associated Press, owned by Newscorp, Fairfax and Seven West
Media. This ownership of Australian Associated Press by the three major media companies reveals the
true monopoly over information in Australia. This is

Jane Jacobs Legacy
Jane Jacobs was a novel architect for her time and was the leader in the kind of work she was doing.
Jane was born Jane Butzner May 4th 1916 in Scranton Pennsylvania. Her parents a doctor and a
schoolteacher raised a smart and confident young lady. Jane however had a much different outlook on
teachings, and did not pay attention in schooling as she was occupied with three imagined companions
Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, and a tribal chief Cedric . Jane was always fascinated with the
world around her. She wanted more to her life than what her family had. Jane took every chance she
could to leave her hometown to see other cities. This included going on field trips, on vacations with
other families, as well as reading stories and watching ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She had a medal, numerous published books, spoke at graduations, left behind a legacy, and was even
a legacy. Her most famous piece of work was The Death and Life of Great American Cities . This
book was her most influential book and is said to be the most famous book of city planning in the 20th
century. The book is a critique of the urban planning policy of the time period. This planning policy
was the reason for the decline in many neighborhoods in big cities throughout the entire country. As
well as the reason for so many destroyed and isolated communities, particularly those of lower
economic means. Jane in her book was voicing a un popular opinion and proposed a new idea. In the
book Jane focused in her ideas to abolish zoning laws and to restore free markets. Jane used her home
of Greenwich Village as an example of a thriving urban community that was based on the ideals of a
mixture of all people, buildings, and uses. This book challenged many architect of the time as well as
the entire modern development mindset that was to be used in urban planning throughout the country.
Another well known Jane wrote is The Economy of Cities . In this book Jane incorporated her love for
economics as well as her love for design and architecture. She argued that drastic economic growth
comes from cities that are producing their own goods. By replacing imports Jane believes that the
infrastructure, skills of workers, and production speed would increase and become beneficial to all
other aspects of the major cities. Therefore with the major cities being more stable the surrounding
neighborhoods would be more stable as well. Jacobs other big controversial move was when she
argues that cities are more important than agriculture. Jane argues that the trade done in cities is more
cost effective and beneficial than the land competition than that of the agriculture on the outskirts of
the cities. Soon after Jane

Alex In A Clockwork Orange
In Depth Character Analysis on Alex Besides the protagonist in A Clockwork Orange, who is Alex?
Many times we only look at main characters with an outsiders perspective. The characteristics of a
character are important, but the main characters are often made to be so much more in the inside by
the author. Most simply, from an outward perspective, who is Alex? What shaped Alex to be violent?
How might have other characters influenced him to be the leader of a gang? Where did Alex s actions
leave him and did Alex understand that where he was left was avoidable? And finally, in his actions,
good and bad, was there personal growth? These are all questions to explore while diving in to who
Alex is from the inside.
Most simply, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Alex is eventually shown, although the hard way, that violence (and overall, evil) is not the way one
can live their life forever. After getting away with countless crimes, two of his droogs set him up. Alex
is rightfully taken into the hands of the police officers and put in prison for the killing of an innocent
woman. In this prison he is the first to be chosen and tested on with the Ludovico Technique, a
correctional technique for criminals. This technique was a two week process of torture. Insuring that
Alex couldn t move his body to interfere with the technique, two scientists had Alex put in a straight
jacket and strapped down with his eyes held open by metal clamps. The scientists gave him nausea
inducing liquid and would then play movies in front of him of crimes he had committed in the past,
beating men and women profusely and raping women. This technique was thought to retrain and
reform the criminal s brain. However, one of the more horrific movies was accompanied by classical
music, the only nonviolent enjoyment Alex ever connected to. QUOTE From then on Alex gagged at
the attempt to raise his fist to another person in the same way that he gagged at the sound of classical
music. The doctors though, deemed his treatment to be successful and sent him out into the world a
reformed man . Alex s violence resulted in treatment that then resulted to him not being able to

Essay on The Tests for Market Efficiency
During the 20th century, academic financial economists extensively accepted the efficient market
hypothesis. Almost everyone was alleged that stock markets and securities market are highly efficient
in response to any new information in the market. It was argued that when information regarding
factors influencing market arises, the information spread like wild fire in the market and the prices of
stocks adjust accordingly without any delay. This means that neither the fundamental analysis related
to analysis of financial information of the company such as earnings, capital stock etc nor the
technical analysis related to the analysis of historical performance of the stocks of the company
enables the investor either experienced or not to get ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In some journal an interesting example related to the idea of random walk is that random walk is like a
blindfolded chimpanzee throwing darts at Wall Street and selects any portfolio which yields equal to
the portfolio selected by any expert. The idea of random walk is just like throwing a towel on the
stock of different category to formulate an appropriate portfolio at lower cost.
Most of the investors try to select the securities which are mis priced undervalued due to the reason
that in future price of these securities will increase and they are able to outperform the market. The
portfolio managers identify the securities which are able to outperform the market and they use variety
of different techniques to predict the performance of the securities and stock. The financial analysis
gives comparative advantage to the investors which results in substantial profits. The efficient market
hypothesis argues that any technique is not capable to generate excess due to dependable predictability
of stock and securities return. The efficient market hypothesis argues that it is very difficult to predict
the future stock return and also the predictions are not consistent. The important and main force
behind the price change is the arrival of new information. It is a presumption that market is efficient if
the price of stock change averagely without any bias in response to the new information in the market
without waiting for any other

The History of Hoovervilles and Government Camps
Place yourself in 1929, it is the beginning of the Great Depression and thousands of people are
migrating to California and throughout the United States in search of a position in work. Many
citizens will end up in Hoovervilles and Weedpatch Camps. Weedpatch camps provided a more
sanitary and secure shelter than Hoovervilles. Also, Weedpatch camps were sustained by the
government while Hoovervilles were supported by only the individual that traveled to provide for

True Grit Comparative Essay
Comparative Analysis on True Grit (1969) and True Grit (2010)
Many modern adaptations of classical films have effectively been reinvented to successfully adapt the
current market and cater audiences from the new generation. One such film is the 2010 movie True
Grit , which is an artistic remake by the Coen brothers of the 1969 film of the same title by Henry
Hathaway. While both films are adaptation of Charles Portis 1968 novel True Grit, the two versions
differ in certain cinematic elements that make their variations artistic and inventive on their own right.
One of the immediate things that differed between the two film adaptations is the character portrayal
of the main characters in the story. While both featured a one eyed lawman named ... Show more

With erstwhile traditional techniques in film making, the camera in the 1969 version focuses on
capturing the unrefined exquisiteness of the sceneries using natural light in bright days while
somewhat dodging from anything ostentatious, that could get in the way in highlighting the star appeal
of actors in the film and distorting its emphasis on the eye for eye western sense of justice. With better
technology and techniques, the Coen version used different photographic effects and colour schemes
that created a more dead beat gothic appearance that contributes to its lacklustre, indifferent and hard
bitten theme and ending. The visual approach is further complemented by varying musical
backgrounds. Whereas the 1969 version exhibited the more buoyant optimistic style of most 60 s
films, highlighted by folksy pop ballad of Glenn Campbell, the musical score for the modern version
is way more dismal and sober in tone in order to emphasize thrilling adventure of the story instead of
merely suggesting a western film genre. While the older version merely focused on creating a western
ambiance in terms of music and look, the visual and music in the modern version contributed to
improve the realism of the story which focused on the ambiance and feeling of specific scenes to the
film which is more palatable to modern

The Death of the Ball Turret Gunner written by Randall Jarrell is a poem that introduces three major
ideas in only five lines. These ideas are birth, death, and war. Jarrell is able to accomplish a lot in this
short poem by using diction and syntax such as metaphor and figurative language. The title of the
poem automatically shifts the reader s mind to expect a poem about war and death. However, after
reading the title and seeing how clear it is, when taken literally, line one of the poem is very
confusing. If we try to understand the poem at a basic literal level, here s what s happening: There is a
gunner in the ball turret, underneath a bomber plane. It is so cold up high that the lining of his wet

The speaker s life before war is left far below and even feels like an illusion. Like a dream, it is gone.
When the speaker woke to black flak and the nightmare fighters , he woke up to his worst nightmare,
enemy fighters approaching the bomber. If we take a close look at lines three and four together, there
is a stark contrast. Line three is very peaceful and serene, the words dream , life , and earth usually
have positive connotations; while line four is certain death, with words like nightmare and black flak .
The last line of the poem is very straightforward, and is almost prose. It tells us exactly what we need
to know. When the bomber got back to the base, they cleaned the speakers remains out of the turret
with a hose. If we continue the metaphor of the bomber being the mother, we can conclude that the
speaker is being born into death through the womb of the State . The Death of the Ball Turret Gunner
by Randall Jarrell is able to accomplish so many thing with so little lines mainly through the use of
metaphor and diction. It explains the terrors of wars in gruesome detail and explains the ways in
which wars, in a sense breed and birth death. To some, this poem is seen as the ultimate poem of war,

Analysis Of The Movie Sing
Money is the best motivator in the country. In the movie Sing it shows how using a cash reward will
generate more participants in the talent show. The movie is about a koala, Mr. Moon, who owns a
failing theatre. In an attempt to generate more revenue to pay off his bank debts he decides to host a
singing competition and offers a prize of one thousand dollars to the winner. His secretary accidently
puts one hundred thousand dollars on the fliers. Before they could be looked over, the fliers fell out of
the window and landed all around town. The next day a ton of auditioners showed up. When the one
hundred thousand dollar reward is brought up Mr. Moon doesn t correct them with the right amount
since it was because of the enormous cash prize that so many participants came out. Though Sing is a
cartoon movie, there are many different versions of this type of show in real life such as American
Idol. Fear factor is another example of an American television show that portrays the crazy things
people will do for money. This movie shows how important money is by the characterization and
setting; through this it reflects America s love for money. How the characters come off and their
backgrounds show that the money was the reason they decided to try for their dreams. This is
particularly true for two characters, Rosita the pig and Johnny the gorilla. Rosita is portrayed as a
common housewife with two dozen or more piglets running around her home. Throughout the movie
she breaks the

Middle Childhood. Middle Childhood Is Where My Passion
Middle Childhood
Middle childhood is where my passion for students is. Middle childhood ranges from 6 11 years old
kids. A brief description of what middle childhood is, The school years are marked by improved
athletic abilities; more logical thought processes; mastery of basic literacy skills; advances in self
understanding, morality, and friendship; and the beginnings of peer group membership (Berk, 2017, p.
6). I find this age group relevant to my future because I want to pursue a career in elementary school

There are three major features that I would say middle childhood contains. The three features are
physical, cognitive, and social. Physical is based on body growth and nutrition. Cognitive deals with
how students excel in different ways at school. Social means how students interact with schoolmates
and how they respond. They all are different aspects of a child, but they connect with different places
in their lives.
Physical growth, during this age period, continues at a slow pace like it did in early childhood, but
now health issues can start to occur. Nutrition is a key concept in a school age child s life. Today, 32
percent of U.S. children and adolescents are overweight. (Berk, 2017, p. 228). This is an eye opener
that something needs to change in children s nutrition at home and at school.
The cognitive features of a child through middle childhood is just as important. Piaget s cognitive
developmental theory is described as, Development occurs as the brain grows and children exercise
their innate drive to discover reality in a generally stimulating environment. (Berk, 2017, p. 22). This
theory helps people look at individual differences. There are four different sections that are looked at
when dealing with cognitive development, those are conservation, classification, seriation, and spatial
reasoning. These four things separate children by their strengths.
During middle childhood, social understanding, to me, is

contextual fear memory compared with vehicle infused animals (saline, n=18) when tested 24 hours
after CFC training (DF=28, F=7.19, t test: p 0.05) (Figure 2A). Surprisingly, irrespective of the overall
decrease in freezing percentage, mice injected with anisomycin did not show any statistical difference
in the level of freezing within the first 2 minutes of the test (Figure 2B). By the third minute of testing,
ANI injected mice show a significant decrease in their level of freezing, showing statistical significant
differences until the end of the test (drug × memory minutes of test DF=28, F=13.16, t test p 0.01;
DF=28, F=7.66, t test p 0.01; DF=28, F=5.46, t test p 0.05) (Figure 2B). These results suggested that
new protein synthesis at PrL cortex is critical for the encoding of contextual fear memories.
To further understand new protein synthesis at PFC, we asked whether other subregions of PFC are
also critical for encoding of contextual fear memories. To address this question, we studied the role of
cingulate cortex 1 (CG1) region of PFC in encoding. We injected anisomycin to inhibit protein
synthesis at CG1. Four separate groups of animals received anisomycin and saline infusions into the
adjacent CG1 (Saline, n= 8; ANI, n=6; Figure 2 C and D). As in the case of Prl cortex, anisomicyn

What Was The Truman Doctrine
Stalin s occupation of Eastern Europe was not self serving nor was it aggressive.
This can be supported by noticing the positive impacts Stalin s occupation made and by using America
as a comparison always noting that America had many more self serving incentives.
The US and USSR both would have both preferred that the other disappear but since this would
involve mutually assured destruction a system of global management called the Cold War was
established.
According to the orthodox view, the Cold War was caused by Soviet aggression in which the USA
tried to contain and protect the world by means of the Marshall plan and Truman doctrine. It is
however , easy to forget the loss that the Soviet Union experienced .

The US used Western Europe as a source of income by supplying it with exclusively American
products and America had intention of using the Ruhr , which is an excellent example of how America
used the Marshall plane and Truman doctrine for personal gain.
The Soviet Union however had secured it s means of production and had also catered for satellite

recreational, educational, and other facilities for themselves and their families and even prevented
intermarriage between people of different races. Before this time, one s race was a strong indicator of
destiny, and some would say that there is still a racial caste system in the United States today.
With that being said, I challenge you today to take a stand on the call of Karl Marx s visions from the
18th century. Where he imagined that the Workers would develop a true class consciousness, or a
sense of shared identity based on their common experience of exploitation by the bourgeoisie. The
workers would unite and rise up in a global revolution. Once the dust settled after the revolution, the
workers would then own the means of production, and the world would become Communist. No one 5
of 6
stratum would control the access to wealth. Everything would be owned equally by everyone. what

Charter Schools
Some parents claim there s nothing better than them. Others argue that they place profit above
education. Whatever the opinion, one thing is certain; charter schools are becoming the most
controversial public education issue in the United States. Charter schools have combined features of
both public and private schools. The reason these schools are better for students, parents and the
community are vast. Since they are exempt from the rules and policies imposed on public schools,
they have some notable advantages. First, the teachers have more freedom to prepare lessons, and
schools themselves can emphasize certain courses according to the necessity of the students. Second,
they can offer limited enrollment to keep class sizes small, which ... Show more content on

While a public school or a private institution might have to stick to teaching a lesson in two days, for
example, a teacher working at a charter school may extend that deadline if they notice that some
students are behind on said topic. On the other hand, the teacher may also observe that students grasp
a topic quicker, so they don t have to waste much time on it. Also, charter schools can choose to
emphasize certain courses and subjects also depending on student needs. If a student, for instance,
already has an idea on what they want to study in college, the school can enhance this student s
courses to better prepare them. They can give students advanced classes on what their focus is on, and
work with their electives so that, instead of taking something that won t benefit them, they can take a
class that can actually contribute to better their knowledge in a certain area. For example, a student
that wants to study medicine would have to meet the regular curriculum in a public school. In a charter
school, though, he could take Advanced Placement classes in science courses like Biology and
Chemistry, and could exchange having an Art class to taking an advanced Biochemistry course, for
instance. Since nothing is set in stone, charter schools work around with each student s specific needs
for their advantage, not on what they are be forced to take like everyone

Edith Head Research Paper
Throughout Hollywood s history, there have been several great fashion designers, including Edith
Head. She has had a very long and illustrious career that lasted from 1927 to 1981. During her career,
she inspired numerous fashion trends and worked on several popular films. Edith Head was very
secretive about her childhood and would often lie about it when asked a question. A close friend of
hers David Chierichetti eventually learned all about it (Jorgensen, 13). Edith Head was born, Edith
Claire Posner, on October 28, 1897, in San Bernardino to Max Posner and Anna Levy. When her
mom, Anne married her stepfather, Frank Spare, the three of them moved from mining town to mining

mom, Anne, also made sure Head received an education. Head did not have any formal fashion
training, she went to Berkeley majoring in Letters and Sciences with honors in French. She also
received her masters in French from Stanford (18). The only training she had were the art classes she
was taking to be able to teach her students at Hollywood School for Girls how to draw. A major

important dressing and fashion are. That information stayed with Head throughout her life, that being

The constellation of Andromeda is pretty interesting. Not only does it share it s name with the galaxy
closest to the Milky Way, it is also one of the 48 constellations listed by the Greco Roman astronomer,

400 kV high tension transmission lines near Madrid
Electric power transmission or high voltage electric transmission is the bulk transfer of electrical
energy, from generating power plants to substations located near population centers. This is distinct
from the local wiring between high voltage substations and customers, which is typically referred to as
electric power distribution. Transmission lines, when interconnected with each other, become high
voltage transmission networks. In the US, these are typically referred to as power grids or just the grid

High voltage overhead conductors are not covered by insulation. The conductor material is nearly
always an aluminium alloy, made into several strands and possibly reinforced with steel strands.
Copper was sometimes used for overhead transmission but aluminium is lower in weight for only
marginally reduced performance, and much lower in cost. Overhead conductors are a commodity
supplied by several companies worldwide. Improved conductor material and shapes are regularly used
to allow increased capacity and modernize transmission circuits. Conductor sizes range from 12 mm2
(#6 American wire gauge) to 750 mm2 (1,590,000 circular mils area), with varying resistance and
current carrying capacity. Thicker wires would lead to a relatively small increase in capacity due to the
skin effect, that causes most of the current to flow close to the surface of the wire.
Today, transmission level voltages are usually considered to be 110 kV and above. Lower voltages
such as 66 kV and 33 kV are usually considered

arch way. There was either a plum or damson tree but Wiltshire was unable to say because no flowers
or fruit were on it. There were weeds everywhere as well. Due to all of the evidence she was able to
conclusively say that Leanne was there.

Queen Elizabeth s Lasting Effect on Theater Essay
Queen Elizabeth s Lasting Effect on Theater
Queen Elizabeth came to be known as one of the greatest rulers of the English empire. Under the reign
of Queen Elizabeth I, a more efficient government was created. The church was unified, the English
empire was expanded, and language, literature, and theater flourished to a greatness that would be
impossible for almost any other period of English history, or any other European empire, for that
matter, to match. Although there was a great rise in literature,it was theater that catapulted to greatness
during Elizabeth s reign. Out of Elizabeth s era came Elizabethan theater. Elizabethan theater has such

Uniforms would not be a good idea because of the different problems it would start and how it could

The most common argument against school uniforms is that they limit personal expression.

Corporate Restructure
Corporate Restructuring Motives and Methods
Corporate restructuring is one of the most complex and fundamental phenomena that management
confronts. Each company has two opposite strategies from which to choose: to diversify or to refocus
on its core business. While diversifying represents the expansion of corporate activities, refocus
characterizes a concentration on its core business. From this perspective, corporate restructuring is
reduction in diversification. This involves a significant change in one or more of the following *
Pattern of ownership and control * Composition of liability * Asset mix of the firm.
It is a comprehensive process by which a company can consolidate its business operations and

reposition the company with consumers.
Corporate Restructuring entails a range of activities including financial restructuring and organization
restructuring.
Financial Restructuring
Financial restructuring is the reorganization of the financial assets and liabilities of a corporation in
order to create the most beneficial financial environment for the company. Just about every business
goes through a phase of financial restructuring at one time or another. In some cases, the process of
restructuring takes place as a means of allocating resources for a new marketing campaign or the
launch of a new product line. When this happens, the restructure is often viewed as a sign that the
company is financially stable and has set goals for future growth and expansion.
Need For Financial Restructuring
Process of financial restructuring may be undertaken as a means of eliminating waste from the
operations of the company. The restructuring effort may find that two divisions or departments of the
company perform related functions and in some cases duplicate efforts. In some cases, financial
restructuring is a strategy that

Marx s Dream And The American Dream
Marx s Dream It all started with a dream, the American Dream . When first thought of, the American
Dream was the idea of freedom and equality that America offered, as well as the concept that working
hard can lead to success by anyone. The American Dream has since shifted to the idea that you can
have it all, from a house to a well paying job that can support your family. However, the Dream is
centered around private property and capital, and through Marx s eyes, that is where it is flawed. The
American Dream is achieved in a Capitalist society, but according to Marx, with Capitalism comes
alienation. Looking at the American Dream from Marx s standpoint, is it truly attainable by everyone?
The American Dream began with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Not only are workers oppressed, but because of false consciousness they think that the more they
work, the more they achieve; when in reality, working towards prosperity leads to less time to enjoy
what they worked for. This false consciousness prevents people from seeing that they cannot truly
achieve the American Dream because of the nature of their social and economical situation.
Using Marx s theories of alienation and false consciousness the American Dream can easily be dubbed
unrealistic. In a Capitalist society, it is hard for people to break boundaries to swiftly move up the
hierarchy because of class wars and power struggles. In Marx s sense, strives towards the American
Dream can only be reached through the perfect utopia of Communism. In accordance with Marx,
Communism is the one thing that can make this Dream possible. In a Capitalist society, class divides
people, and Marx says, the history of all hitherto existing society is the history of class struggles (59).
A society not divided among class would allow for production and product to be in everyone s hands;
and if wage labor did not create capital then workers cannot be exploited. A Communist society allows
for total equality amongst all citizens once the lower class successfully revolts. Under Communism,
everyone would be working together using the ruling general interest in order to achieve the American

These are lipids (fat soluble chemicals) produced naturally by the human body. Some of these steroids
include the male hormone testosterone (an androgen) and the female hormones estrogen and
progesterone. Testosterone is responsible for many of the physical changes that occur to males during
adolescence, such as deepening of the voice and increase in muscle mass. Even after adolescence,
testosterone continues to influence a variety of male sexual and emotional processes.
Derivatives of testosterone can be artificially produced in a laboratory. These steroids, first developed
in the late 1930s, are commonly prescribed for medical reasons such as preventing the loss of bone
density from osteoporosis or counteracting the body wasting effects of acquired immunodeficiency
syndrome (AIDS). Weightlifters discovered the potential athletic benefits of steroids in the 1950s, and
their use by top level athletes spread in the ensuing decades. In 1991 congressional legislation made
steroids a controlled substance in the United States, meaning they could only be obtained legally with
a doctor s prescription.
Despite this, the illegal use of steroids remained widespread among athletes seeking to gain strength
and bulk up their bodies. Taken by injection or in pill form, performance enhancing steroids work
primarily by stimulating certain proteins involved in the building of muscle tissue. The result is an

FEASIBILITY STUDY
Feasibility reports describe one or more design solutions to a specific problem and determine if the
proposed solution is practical and feasible. Preferably, more than one solution is offered, in which case
the report compares the various designs and determines which option is best. Design and feasibility
reports are essentially the same type of document, differing only in the amount of emphasis placed on
practical and economic viability of the design in comparison with other possible solutions. A design
report, often very similar to an internal proposal, focuses on describing one specific implementation. A
feasibility study, on the other hand, also emphasizes the investigation and comparison of alternative
solutions. Design reports and feasibility reports are crucial for decision making and product
development in almost any technical organization. They document an engineer s thinking through a
solution to a problem, a description of the solution, and the reasons why that solution should be
implemented. Managers need accurate and comprehensive feasibility and design reports to decide
where to commit scarce resources. In addition, an accurate and comprehensive design report helps in
developing other documents, such as formal proposals, specifications, and work plans.

Essay on Sir Gawain and the Green Knight as Modern Fantasy
Sir Gawain and the Green Knight as Modern Fantasy
Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, written by an unknown author in the 14th century, can be called a
timeless work of poetry. It exudes a certain fantastic quality that, despite its age of over 500 years, still
appeals to modern audiences. Because of this application to all eras, would it be reasonable to state
that this poem could be classified with modern fantasy fiction? Because of the similarities in plot and
style with so much modern fantasy, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight could be placed in the same
category with that genre, though the uses of doing so are questionable.
In plot, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight has elements which are similar to much modern ... Show

From when the Green Knight is beheaded and proceeds to pick up his head, give a wicked grin, and
say essentially, I ll see you in a year, (ll. 423 456) it is clear that magic will play in integral part in the
narrative. The confirmation of enchantment by Morgan le Faye (ll. 2446 2462) finishes the plot as it
began it: in a state of magical unreality. Such enchantment is typical of modern fantasy, particularly
from writers of modern fairy tales. Indeed, Ellen Datlow and Terri Windling have essentially made
their careers editing compilations of these tales, such as the popular Snow White, Blood Red and its
several follow ups. To increase the fairy tale style feel of the story, the Green Knight is called an elf
(ll. 680, 2461) and faery. (l. 240) There is clear indication that this can easily be called a fairy tale.
Stylistically, the visual and concrete nature of the poem lends itself to modern comparison as well. The
delightful accounts of the changing of the seasons are in part to indicate the passage of time, but also
add mood to the whole of the piece. Present day fantasy writer Patricia McKillip has been critically
lauded for lush imagery and stories described as atmospheric... and filled with rich imagery. Clearly
the descriptions are an important part of the style that makes modern

Medicines Co Marketing
The Medicines Company Case Write Up: Terence Cho, Felipe Duarte, Aleks Loiko, Robert Shaw, and
James Wang
Section 4, Group 10
Medicines Company s drug, Angiomax, outperforms Heparin, but incurs significantly higher costs to
produce, making the drug difficult to attractively price. This difficulty in pricing stems from a poor
positioning strategy for Angiomax which does not maximize the perceived value (PV) that the drug
provides to its key customer segments. Therefore, Medicines Co., must develop a positioning strategy
that maximizes the perceived value of Angiomax. Medicines Co. must first determine the critical
characteristics its key customer segments (doctors, hospital administrators, and pharmacists) value in
an anticoagulant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
to price Angiomax between $139 and $391. We recommend a halfway price of $265. This incentivizes
doctors and, indirectly, hospital administrators to purchase the drug since this price is lower than the
PV created by this positioning strategy.
Implementing this solution requires additional considerations. First, Medicines Co. needs to
thoroughly train its representatives on the cost savings and risks of complication statistics that show
the significant effectiveness of Angiomax over Heparin for high risk patients. This is critical for their
interactions with doctors. Second, Medicines Co needs to allocate additional marketing budgeting to
demonstrate that Angiomax is a more effective treatment for high risk patients and not simply an
alternative to Heparin. Finally, since Angiomax is close to being approved for heart attacks, the
marketing team should perform another analysis of the marketing framework and budget more
marketing to highlight the effectiveness of Angiomax in treating heart attacks over Heparin.
Appendix A:
Appendix B
Table 1 Calculation of True Economic Value (Average extra cost for complications or death: $8,000)

The United Nations Educational, Scientific And Cultural...
If you are a fan of history, then the UK has a stunning number of heritage destinations. The rich
culture of the misty island has even resulted in a number of listings in the World Heritage Program.
VoucherBin looked at the favourite UK World Heritage Sites and the reasons these destinations are
such a good destination for a visit.
What are World Heritage Sites?
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) keeps a list of
sights that have special cultural or physical significance. The list is conducted by the UNESCO World
Heritage Committee, which is composed of 21 UNESCO member states. These member states rotate
and are elected by the UN General Assembly.

The most recent addition was the inclusion of Forth Bridge in 2015.
5 stunning World Heritage Sites you should visit
It s quite a difficult task to pick the best heritage sites from a wide selection of 25. But we wanted to
make sure the attractions include a site from each of the countries in the UK: from Scotland, Wales,
England and Northern Island. We also added a bonus attraction from the capital city of the UK,
London.
Fountains Abbey, North Yorkshire, England
Fountains Abbey is among the largest and best preserved ruined Cistercian monasteries in England.
The abbey was founded in 1131, after 13 monks were expelled from the St Mary s Abbey in York. The
Archbishop of York, Thurstan, provided these monks refuge and a small piece of land, where they set
the monastery.
The monastery grew in size over the years, with the precinct covering around 70 acres of land. The
abbey operated for over 400 years, closing in 1539 when Henry VIII ordered the Dissolution of the
Monasteries.
Fountains Abbey was among the first UK entries on the UNESCO World Heritage site list. It was
added on 1986, as a cultural site.
Why visit Fountains Abbey:
Fountains Abbey is a stunning attraction to visit and to learn about life in monasteries something
which was one central to the way of life on the island. The vast location offers plenty of things to see;
you can visit indoor museums and spend time outdoors taking in the stunning views across the ruins.

Essay about PHILOSOPHY
With such great minds and an awesome influence that seems boundless, how can there not be
references to the works of Thomas Hobbes and Immanuel Kant. The Fundamental Principles in the
Metaphysics of Morality is used by the minority dissenting opinion to reiterate the concepts of the
intrinsic dignity of man. While the majority uses the literary work the Leviathan to support their own
opinions. Transforming and uplifting the case of Gregg v. Georgia into an arena for a debate of
Hobbian and Kant philosophies.

option to guarantee that all members of society prosper. There may be a moral outrage at the particular
offensiveness of the conduct, but still, there would be more of an outrage from the chaos that would be
sure to follow. The decision that capital punishment may be appropriate sanction in the extreme cases
is an expression of the community s belief that certain crimes are themselves so grievous an affront to
humanity that the only adequate response may be the penalty of death.
The courts state that this majority of the population (thirty five states) allow and approve of such
extreme measures. In the commonwealth, the entirety of the governed population agrees with their
leader on what best to do. Bath parties need the willingness of the population to accept such radical
opinions and sanctions.
On the dissenting opinion, Justice Brennan and Marshall give their thoughts. Their words not only
show a concern and a different interpretation of the constitution as well as showing that Kants s words
may be old but his ideas are forever young.
Immanuel Kant formulates that morality is an end within itself, an equal to that of dignity. This paired

Comparison of the Effectiveness Of Imagery in “ The Secret...
While writing stories it is importing to keep in mind that readers should be able to picture the story in
their mind while reading. It is best to use effective ways to explain or describe the point; such as,
wording and writing format, in order to grab reader s attention and interest them.
Referring to the readings The secret of Walter Mitty written by James Thurber, and Bartleby the
scrivener written by Melville, both have been written in a great effective way for readers to use their
imagery and develop the ideas of what the story is about. Providing that, both stories have described
the character and setting with enough details to be effective imagery for readers.
Understanding the story and the main characters requires a suitable description of characteristic and
personality of people in the story. Therefore, both stories have introduced the characters with a brief
description to leave a picture of the characters in readers head. In reading The secret of Walter Mitty,
Walter Mitty has been described as a middle age man who has trouble handling mechanical tasks,
forgets mostly everything easily, and someone who is a daydreamer. This description of Walter Mitty
gives readers a picture of a man who may not be able to work very well and may not have a strong
memory. But, daydreams of having great times to forget and not to worry about his sad moments and
his disability. Someone who wants to stay happy and tries to make his life interested and joyful the

Origins Of The Federalist And Democratic-Republican Parties
Nardine Salama 1998 DBQ ESSAY AP. USHISTORY The origins of the Federalist and Democratic
Republican parties can be traced back to the early 1790s. Initially, the Federalists, or broad
constructionists, favored the growth of federal power and a strong central government. The Federalists
promulgated a loose interpretation of the Constitution, which meant that they believed that the
government could do anything by the implied powers of the Constitution or that congress had the right
to interpret the Constitution based on connotation. On the contrary, the Democratic Republicans
favored the protection of states rights and the strict containment of federal power. The Democratic
Republicans were strict constructionists and they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
C). This Act completely cut off commerce with foreign nations until the British and the French
repealed their trading restrictions on neutral shippers. As a result the American export trade and its
profits dried up. Many people deemed this Act unconstitutional; the constitution only grants congress
the power to regulate commerce, it does not however state that they have the power to completely cut
it off. This by itself contradicts everything Jefferson stood up for. Albert Gallatin, one of the best
financial minds in the Republican Party, convinced Jefferson that the Bank of the U.S. was essential
for financial stability. Although the creation of the Bank of the U.S. reduced the nation s debt from 83
million in 1800 to 57 million by 1809 , the creation in its self shows a great deal of broad
constructionism. Although the bank was a reasonable means of carrying out powers related to taxation
and the borrowing of funds, nowhere in the constitution does it state that congress has the power to
charter a bank. John Randolph, a Republican congressman from Virginia, claimed that this
government (Jeffersonian) created and gave power to congress to regulate commerce and equalize
duties in the whole of the U.S, and not to lay a duty but with a steady eye to revenue . What John
Randolph was trying to say was that

The Prevalence Of Parkinson s Disease
Individuals worldwide are affected by Parkinson s disease. Parkinson s is a chronic disorder with
onset of symptoms occurring at a mean age of 60 years. The prevalence of Parkinson s increases with
age and may affect up to 5% of individuals over 79 years old. (Tosin, Campos, Andrade, Oliveira,
Santana, 2015). Those affected by the disease, experience impairments in movement, balance, and
have difficulty performing everyday life tasks. Due to posture deficits and gait dysfunction, patients
with Parkinson s have an increased risk of falling which may lead to secondary health problems.
Although exercise programs have been implemented to decrease falls, few programs are proven
successful. (Li, Harmer, Fitzgerald, Eckstrom, Stock, Galver, Maddalozzo, Batya, 2012). In order to
find an effective program in decreasing falls, nurses are performing various rehabilitation
interventions that focus on improving postural stability. Two examples of interventions include Qi
Gong and Tai Chi. Qi Gong is a mindful exercise that effects neuroplasticity in the brain and can have
an effect on the postural instability that Parkinson s patients experience (Loftus, 2014). Tai Chi is a
balance based exercise that may have an effect on muscle strength and stability for those living with
Parkinson s (Li, et al., 2012). Qi Gong and Tai Chi are two rehabilitation interventions that nurses are
implementing to prove whether or not complementary exercise programs improve posture enough to

Leadership Is The Best Course Of Action For Leadership
Leadership is a complex subject, but for our purposes can be defined as the act of one person
influencing another person or group of people towards a common purpose that is beneficial for both
the leader and their followers. Many approaches have been taken by academics in attempting to
understand what leadership is at its core. Useful information has been unearthed by studying
leadership qualities in individuals and by studying the dynamic between leader and follower.
However, the abstractness of these studies left researches at somewhat of a loss for practical and
relevant information, that is until research began on the observable behavior of leaders. The Style
Approach is a useful way to look at the leader follower relationship because it incorporates elements
of behaviorist psychology and applies them to the study leadership as a phenomenon. The goal of this
essay is to use observable behavior in the context of the Leadership Grid to determine the best course
of action for leadership in any scenario.
Findings on Leadership via the Style Approach The Style Approach differs from other ways of
understanding leadership in that it is focused on the here and now rather than traits or tendencies
which are more difficult to quantify. This approach allows room for the subject of a study to change
over time, rather than being rigidly casted as something because they displayed certain characteristics
at a certain time. It also eliminates the idea that a leader depends upon

Berry Gordy s Accomplishments
Berry Gordy founded Motown records in 1959, and created one of the most famous recording
companies to ever produce music. Motown had crossover success that helped promote the music of
African Americans. Motown records helped the civil rights movement and helped the blacks in their
fight for their rights. Berry Gordy really helped out the African American community by creating
Motown records and showing the world that blacks could really make quality music.
On January 12, 1959 a young man by the name of Berry Gordy founded Motown record. Berry had
gotten a loan of $800 from his family to start up his new company. Berry lived in Detroit Michigan so

He set a system up of quality control to ensure that only the best product was being released. Gordy
would hold a meeting every friday morning where the producers would submit their work and they
would all be voted on. Everyone was able to talk honestly about the work and what they could work
on to make it better. The best song that was there would be released so it made the competition very
stiff so the writers and composers would have to work very hard and produce the best that they could.
Motown also had success not only music but in crossing over with white listeners. Motown was the
sound of young America, and had a way of getting everyone to listen to their music. Their music was
distinctive and was upbeat. The music brought together pop and soul, old and young, and black and
white together. Regardless of race or social background people came together to listen to these songs
that these artists were creating. Young teenage girls lived Diana Ross and Young teenage boys

Medical Malpractice Crisis Analysis
Implications of the medical malpractice crisis One implication of the medical malpractice crisis is that
specialists in high risk fields are considering and/or leaving their practice which is drastically affecting
the quality of patient care; treatment for patients who need specialists is declining rapidity (Cline
Pepine). Insurance rates are so high that many doctor s either can t afford it and/or do not think it is
worth staying in the practice. Patients are often forced to travel long distance for a specialist; waiting
long hours at an overcrowded doctor s office with less efficiency in the quality of medical care (Cline
Pepine). Another implication of the medical malpractice crisis is that a huge reason that insurance
rates continue to skyrocket is the cost of court defense/attorney fees when a doctor loses which
averages a half a million dollars (Abadinsky, 2014); it is also the reason why so many lawyers are
eager to sue doctors. There would be far less frivolous lawsuits if attorneys did not profit so greatly

Although there is no federal statute that limits the amount of profit an attorney can retrieve in medical
malpractice case, some states such as California, Tennessee and Wyoming have placed limits and/or
sliding scales on contingency fees (LaMance, 2014). Lawyers in these states can only recover a certain
percentage depending on the amount won for instance in California an attorney cannot exceed 40% of
first $50,000, 1/3 of the next $50,000, 25% of the next $500,000, and 15% of damages exceeding
$600,000 (LaMance, 2014). I would enforce a federal statute that limits the amount of profit an
attorney can retrieve and/or push for all of the US states to place contingency fees with limits and/or
sliding scales on how much a lawyer may profit in medical malpractice

  • 2. Descartes Method Of Radical Doubt Descartes method of radical doubt focuses upon finding the truth about certain things from a philosophical perspective in order to truly lay down a foundation for ideas that have the slightest notion of doubt attached to them. He believed that there was no greater task to perform in philosophy, than assiduously to seek out, once and for all, the best of all these arguments and to lay them out so precisely and plainly that henceforth all will take them to be true demonstrations (Meditations, 36). The two key concepts that Descartes proves using the method of doubt are that the human soul does not die with the body, and that God exists as mentioned in his Letter of Dedication, since there are many that don t believe the mentioned concepts because of the fact that they have not been proven or demonstrated. (Meditations, 35). In order to prove the above, he lays out six Meditations, each focusing on a different theme that leads us to the knowledge of our mind and of God, so that of all things that can be known by the human mind, these latter are the most certain and the most evident (Meditations, 40). By carrying out the method of doubt, we are able to free ourselves from all prejudices with the intention of being able to withdraw our mind from our senses. In doing so, we set a base for being able to decipher the truth from the falsity (Meditations, 39). The reasoning to doubt not only comes from the desire to learn the truth, but to establish anything firm and lasting ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Equality 7-2521 Research Paper Equality 7 2521: A Lone Scholar Living in a Society of Street Sweepers Robert Green Ingersoll, a lawyer, Civil War veteran, and political leader, once said that It is a blessed thing that in every age some one had had the individuality enough and courage enough to stand by his own convictions. In Ayn Rand s novel Anthem, Equality 7 2521 represents this salient being. Equality has never been destined to be a street sweeper, instead, it is a sinister motive of the Council that determines his position. This is proven by several aspects throughout the book, encompassing the idea that Equality has been set aside from society from a young age, Equality is an individual in a communistic society, and that the Council has had unjust determinations ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Equality is often locked in the cellar as a child, more so than the other children, for being taller and more intelligent than his teachers. In Anthem s society, It is not good to be different from [your] brothers, but it is evil to be superior to them (Rand 21). This saying, told to Equality multiple times by his teachers for excelling in his lessons, indicates that Equality is evil, for being intelligent. He often understands the subject matter of his lectures before the teachers have even completed the curriculum. Equality himself states that No single one can possess greater wisdom than the many Scholars who are elected by all men for their wisdom. Yet [I] can. [I] do (54). Equality is one of the smartest mortals in his society, and he even goes so far as to say that he is more intellectual than members of the Home of the Scholars. Equality s treatment by his teachers justifies that his occupation as a street sweeper was a sinister motive because his intelligence could lead to him surpassing the influence of the Council, if citizens decide to depend upon the man bringing them new innovations in science and ... Whales only recently evolved into giants when changing ice, oceans concentrated prey: Analysis of fossil, modern whale s points to when and how whales started bulking up. ScienceDaily. ScienceDaily, 24 May 2017. . Introduction: After analyzing the fossils or preserved remains of whales, scientist have determined that whales have only recently evolved to be the large animals that we know today. Though not sure, the scientist state that the evolutionary shift was due to the increase of ice sheets in the North. This increase in ice caused a shift in the concentration of food available in the ocean, increasing the benefits of having a bigger body. This is important to the scientific community because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The shift in whale size occurred during the beginning of the Ice Age and the increase in ice sheets may have caused a change in the distribution of food. Before the ice sheets, food would have been evenly distributed; however, as the ice sheets formed, run off would ve increased the amount of food like krill and plankton in the water, this increase along with the filter feeding mechanism of the baleen whale would have given the advantage to larger whale, who would have been able to utilize the dense aggregations of prey in the water. Evaluation A. This study mainly focuses within Big Idea 1, the process of evolution drives the diversity and unity of life. Within the study, the scientists observed how organism are linked by a common ancestry (1.B) through cladograms and the width of the skull from fossil records. With these fossils, the scientists observed the shift of size in the whale s bodies and how organisms from a common ancestor change and differentiate in structure over time. This allowed for them to see what traits were gained and lost, causing not only speciation in the organisms but also overall phenotypic changes. Similarly, in this study, the scientists were able to unveil how life continues to evolve with a changing environment. Extinctions and speciation occur all the time due to the environment. Though it s not proven, the phenotypic shift within ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Neoliberalism and Australia Essay Does globalisation imply cultural homogenisation? Your answer should consider specific and local global media examples and should include reference to the Appadurai and McChesney article in the course reader. The role of globalization has had a major influence on society and the world, and this essay will argue it has resulted in cultural homogenization. This can be illustrated through an introduction to globalization, the consolidation of media, ownership and vested interests, world standardization and neoliberalism, politics and the media and public service media. Examining the different views of globalization, including Appadurai and McChesney as well as other sources it can be clearly understood the negatives arising due to ... The source comments on why the market in Australia is so concentrated which include, favourable monopolistic laws and few safeguard regulations, decreases in funding for public broadcasting, restrictions preventing new companies from starting in media due to onerous licencing and regulations preventing new entrants and short term outlook biased toward profits rather than national interest. (McCutcheon and Pusey 2011). Media concentration also causes only certain views and information to enter the public sphere, and may be biased instead of impartially examining both sides, as large corporations follow their own views or agenda. This is why the role of a public broadcasting service is crucial, which will be discussed later. Consolidation of the media is also closely tied to ownership and vested interests. Many media companies source their information from a news agency, or news wire which is a service that provides news from journalists who provide the pipeline of stories, reports and information to media companies. This pipeline can consist of news stories that are broadcast on television, newspaper articles, magazine articles and radio stories. (Paterson 2005). In Australia, the dominant news agency is Australian Associated Press, owned by Newscorp, Fairfax and Seven West Media. This ownership of Australian Associated Press by the three major media companies reveals the true monopoly over information in Australia. This is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This planning policy was the reason for the decline in many neighborhoods in big cities throughout the entire country. As well as the reason for so many destroyed and isolated communities, particularly those of lower economic means. Jane in her book was voicing a un popular opinion and proposed a new idea. In the book Jane focused in her ideas to abolish zoning laws and to restore free markets. Jane used her home of Greenwich Village as an example of a thriving urban community that was based on the ideals of a mixture of all people, buildings, and uses. This book challenged many architect of the time as well as the entire modern development mindset that was to be used in urban planning throughout the country. Another well known Jane wrote is The Economy of Cities . In this book Jane incorporated her love for economics as well as her love for design and architecture. She argued that drastic economic growth comes from cities that are producing their own goods. By replacing imports Jane believes that the infrastructure, skills of workers, and production speed would increase and become beneficial to all other aspects of the major cities. Therefore with the major cities being more stable the surrounding neighborhoods would be more stable as well. Jacobs other big controversial move was when she argues that cities are more important than agriculture. Many times we only look at main characters with an outsiders perspective. The characteristics of a character are important, but the main characters are often made to be so much more in the inside by the author. Most simply, from an outward perspective, who is Alex? What shaped Alex to be violent? How might have other characters influenced him to be the leader of a gang? Where did Alex s actions leave him and did Alex understand that where he was left was avoidable? And finally, in his actions, good and bad, was there personal growth? After getting away with countless crimes, two of his droogs set him up. Alex is rightfully taken into the hands of the police officers and put in prison for the killing of an innocent woman. In this prison he is the first to be chosen and tested on with the Ludovico Technique, a correctional technique for criminals. This technique was a two week process of torture. Insuring that Alex couldn t move his body to interfere with the technique, two scientists had Alex put in a straight jacket and strapped down with his eyes held open by metal clamps. The scientists gave him nausea inducing liquid and would then play movies in front of him of crimes he had committed in the past, beating men and women profusely and raping women. This technique was thought to retrain and reform the criminal s brain. However, one of the more horrific movies was accompanied by classical music, the only nonviolent enjoyment Alex ever connected to. Almost everyone was alleged that stock markets and securities market are highly efficient in response to any new information in the market. It was argued that when information regarding factors influencing market arises, the information spread like wild fire in the market and the prices of stocks adjust accordingly without any delay. This means that neither the fundamental analysis related to analysis of financial information of the company such as earnings, capital stock etc nor the technical analysis related to the analysis of historical performance of the stocks of the company enables the investor either experienced or not to get ... The idea of random walk is just like throwing a towel on the stock of different category to formulate an appropriate portfolio at lower cost. Most of the investors try to select the securities which are mis priced undervalued due to the reason that in future price of these securities will increase and they are able to outperform the market. The portfolio managers identify the securities which are able to outperform the market and they use variety of different techniques to predict the performance of the securities and stock. The financial analysis gives comparative advantage to the investors which results in substantial profits. The efficient market hypothesis argues that any technique is not capable to generate excess due to dependable predictability of stock and securities return. The efficient market hypothesis argues that it is very difficult to predict the future stock return and also the predictions are not consistent. • 11. True Grit Comparative Essay Comparative Analysis on True Grit (1969) and True Grit (2010) Many modern adaptations of classical films have effectively been reinvented to successfully adapt the current market and cater audiences from the new generation. One such film is the 2010 movie True Grit , which is an artistic remake by the Coen brothers of the 1969 film of the same title by Henry Hathaway. While both films are adaptation of Charles Portis 1968 novel True Grit, the two versions differ in certain cinematic elements that make their variations artistic and inventive on their own right. One of the immediate things that differed between the two film adaptations is the character portrayal of the main characters in the story. While both featured a one eyed lawman named ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With erstwhile traditional techniques in film making, the camera in the 1969 version focuses on capturing the unrefined exquisiteness of the sceneries using natural light in bright days while somewhat dodging from anything ostentatious, that could get in the way in highlighting the star appeal of actors in the film and distorting its emphasis on the eye for eye western sense of justice. With better technology and techniques, the Coen version used different photographic effects and colour schemes that created a more dead beat gothic appearance that contributes to its lacklustre, indifferent and hard bitten theme and ending. The visual approach is further complemented by varying musical backgrounds. Whereas the 1969 version exhibited the more buoyant optimistic style of most 60 s films, highlighted by folksy pop ballad of Glenn Campbell, the musical score for the modern version is way more dismal and sober in tone in order to emphasize thrilling adventure of the story instead of merely suggesting a western film genre. While the older version merely focused on creating a western ambiance in terms of music and look, the visual and music in the modern version contributed to improve the realism of the story which focused on the ambiance and feeling of specific scenes to the film which is more palatable to modern ... These ideas are birth, death, and war. Jarrell is able to accomplish a lot in this short poem by using diction and syntax such as metaphor and figurative language. The title of the poem automatically shifts the reader s mind to expect a poem about war and death. However, after reading the title and seeing how clear it is, when taken literally, line one of the poem is very confusing. Like a dream, it is gone. When the speaker woke to black flak and the nightmare fighters , he woke up to his worst nightmare, enemy fighters approaching the bomber. If we take a close look at lines three and four together, there is a stark contrast. Line three is very peaceful and serene, the words dream , life , and earth usually have positive connotations; while line four is certain death, with words like nightmare and black flak . The last line of the poem is very straightforward, and is almost prose. It tells us exactly what we need to know. When the bomber got back to the base, they cleaned the speakers remains out of the turret with a hose. If we continue the metaphor of the bomber being the mother, we can conclude that the speaker is being born into death through the womb of the State . The Death of the Ball Turret Gunner by Randall Jarrell is able to accomplish so many thing with so little lines mainly through the use of metaphor and diction. • 13. Analysis Of The Movie Sing Money is the best motivator in the country. In the movie Sing it shows how using a cash reward will generate more participants in the talent show. The movie is about a koala, Mr. Moon, who owns a failing theatre. In an attempt to generate more revenue to pay off his bank debts he decides to host a singing competition and offers a prize of one thousand dollars to the winner. His secretary accidently puts one hundred thousand dollars on the fliers. Before they could be looked over, the fliers fell out of the window and landed all around town. The next day a ton of auditioners showed up. When the one hundred thousand dollar reward is brought up Mr. Moon doesn t correct them with the right amount since it was because of the enormous cash prize that so many participants came out. Though Sing is a cartoon movie, there are many different versions of this type of show in real life such as American Idol. Fear factor is another example of an American television show that portrays the crazy things people will do for money. A brief description of what middle childhood is, The school years are marked by improved athletic abilities; more logical thought processes; mastery of basic literacy skills; advances in self understanding, morality, and friendship; and the beginnings of peer group membership (Berk, 2017, p. 6). I find this age group relevant to my future because I want to pursue a career in elementary school teaching or counseling. Every Sunday at my church I work in the elementary age kids group. There are three major features that I would say middle childhood contains. The three features are physical, cognitive, and social. Physical is based on body growth and nutrition. Cognitive deals with how students excel in different ways at school. Social means how students interact with schoolmates and how they respond. They all are different aspects of a child, but they connect with different places in their lives. Physical growth, during this age period, continues at a slow pace like it did in early childhood, but now health issues can start to occur. Nutrition is a key concept in a school age child s life. Today, 32 percent of U.S. children and adolescents are overweight. (Berk, 2017, p. 228). This is an eye opener that something needs to change in children s nutrition at home and at school. The cognitive features of a child through middle childhood is just as important. Piaget s cognitive developmental theory is described as, Development occurs as the brain grows and children exercise their innate drive to discover reality in a generally stimulating environment. (Berk, 2017, p. 22). This theory helps people look at individual differences. There are four different sections that are looked at when dealing with cognitive development, those are conservation, classification, seriation, and spatial reasoning. These four things separate children by their strengths. During middle childhood, social understanding, to me, is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 16. The Effect Of New Protein Synthesis At Prl Cortex training. Mice infused with anisomycin (n= 12) immediately after conditioning showed impairment in contextual fear memory compared with vehicle infused animals (saline, n=18) when tested 24 hours after CFC training (DF=28, F=7.19, t test: p 0.05) (Figure 2A). Surprisingly, irrespective of the overall decrease in freezing percentage, mice injected with anisomycin did not show any statistical difference in the level of freezing within the first 2 minutes of the test (Figure 2B). By the third minute of testing, ANI injected mice show a significant decrease in their level of freezing, showing statistical significant differences until the end of the test (drug × memory minutes of test DF=28, F=13.16, t test p 0.01; DF=28, F=7.66, t test p 0.01; DF=28, F=5.46, t test p 0.05) (Figure 2B). These results suggested that new protein synthesis at PrL cortex is critical for the encoding of contextual fear memories. To further understand new protein synthesis at PFC, we asked whether other subregions of PFC are also critical for encoding of contextual fear memories. To address this question, we studied the role of cingulate cortex 1 (CG1) region of PFC in encoding. We injected anisomycin to inhibit protein synthesis at CG1. Four separate groups of animals received anisomycin and saline infusions into the adjacent CG1 (Saline, n= 8; ANI, n=6; Figure 2 C and D). As in the case of Prl cortex, anisomicyn was injected shortly after CFC training. Measurements of freezing at 24 hours ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Also, charter schools can choose to emphasize certain courses and subjects also depending on student needs. If a student, for instance, already has an idea on what they want to study in college, the school can enhance this student s courses to better prepare them. They can give students advanced classes on what their focus is on, and work with their electives so that, instead of taking something that won t benefit them, they can take a class that can actually contribute to better their knowledge in a certain area. For example, a student that wants to study medicine would have to meet the regular curriculum in a public school. In 1991 congressional legislation made steroids a controlled substance in the United States, meaning they could only be obtained legally with a doctor s prescription. Despite this, the illegal use of steroids remained widespread among athletes seeking to gain strength and bulk up their bodies. Taken by injection or in pill form, performance enhancing steroids work primarily by stimulating certain proteins involved in the building of muscle tissue. FEASIBILITY STUDY Feasibility reports describe one or more design solutions to a specific problem and determine if the proposed solution is practical and feasible. Preferably, more than one solution is offered, in which case the report compares the various designs and determines which option is best. Design and feasibility reports are essentially the same type of document, differing only in the amount of emphasis placed on practical and economic viability of the design in comparison with other possible solutions. A design report, often very similar to an internal proposal, focuses on describing one specific implementation. A feasibility study, on the other hand, also emphasizes the investigation and comparison of alternative solutions. Design reports and feasibility reports are crucial for decision making and product development in almost any technical organization. They document an engineer s thinking through a solution to a problem, a description of the solution, and the reasons why that solution should be implemented. Managers need accurate and comprehensive feasibility and design reports to decide where to commit scarce resources. Essay on Sir Gawain and the Green Knight as Modern Fantasy Sir Gawain and the Green Knight as Modern Fantasy Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, written by an unknown author in the 14th century, can be called a timeless work of poetry. It exudes a certain fantastic quality that, despite its age of over 500 years, still appeals to modern audiences. Because of this application to all eras, would it be reasonable to state that this poem could be classified with modern fantasy fiction? Because of the similarities in plot and style with so much modern fantasy, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight could be placed in the same category with that genre, though the uses of doing so are questionable. From when the Green Knight is beheaded and proceeds to pick up his head, give a wicked grin, and say essentially, I ll see you in a year, (ll. 423 456) it is clear that magic will play in integral part in the narrative. The confirmation of enchantment by Morgan le Faye (ll. 2446 2462) finishes the plot as it began it: in a state of magical unreality. Such enchantment is typical of modern fantasy, particularly from writers of modern fairy tales. Indeed, Ellen Datlow and Terri Windling have essentially made their careers editing compilations of these tales, such as the popular Snow White, Blood Red and its several follow ups. To increase the fairy tale style feel of the story, the Green Knight is called an elf (ll. 680, 2461) and faery. (l. 240) There is clear indication that this can easily be called a fairy tale. Stylistically, the visual and concrete nature of the poem lends itself to modern comparison as well. The delightful accounts of the changing of the seasons are in part to indicate the passage of time, but also add mood to the whole of the piece. This difficulty in pricing stems from a poor positioning strategy for Angiomax which does not maximize the perceived value (PV) that the drug provides to its key customer segments. Therefore, Medicines Co., must develop a positioning strategy that maximizes the perceived value of Angiomax. This incentivizes doctors and, indirectly, hospital administrators to purchase the drug since this price is lower than the PV created by this positioning strategy. Implementing this solution requires additional considerations. First, Medicines Co. needs to thoroughly train its representatives on the cost savings and risks of complication statistics that show the significant effectiveness of Angiomax over Heparin for high risk patients. This is critical for their interactions with doctors. Second, Medicines Co needs to allocate additional marketing budgeting to demonstrate that Angiomax is a more effective treatment for high risk patients and not simply an alternative to Heparin. Finally, since Angiomax is close to being approved for heart attacks, the marketing team should perform another analysis of the marketing framework and budget more marketing to highlight the effectiveness of Angiomax in treating heart attacks over Heparin. While writing stories it is importing to keep in mind that readers should be able to picture the story in their mind while reading. It is best to use effective ways to explain or describe the point; such as, wording and writing format, in order to grab reader s attention and interest them. Referring to the readings The secret of Walter Mitty written by James Thurber, and Bartleby the scrivener written by Melville, both have been written in a great effective way for readers to use their imagery and develop the ideas of what the story is about. Providing that, both stories have described the character and setting with enough details to be effective imagery for readers. Understanding the story and the main characters requires a suitable description of characteristic and personality of people in the story. Therefore, both stories have introduced the characters with a brief description to leave a picture of the characters in readers head. In reading The secret of Walter Mitty, Walter Mitty has been described as a middle age man who has trouble handling mechanical tasks, forgets mostly everything easily, and someone who is a daydreamer. USHISTORY The origins of the Federalist and Democratic Republican parties can be traced back to the early 1790s. Initially, the Federalists, or broad constructionists, favored the growth of federal power and a strong central government. The Federalists promulgated a loose interpretation of the Constitution, which meant that they believed that the government could do anything by the implied powers of the Constitution or that congress had the right to interpret the Constitution based on connotation. As a result the American export trade and its profits dried up. Many people deemed this Act unconstitutional; the constitution only grants congress the power to regulate commerce, it does not however state that they have the power to completely cut it off. This by itself contradicts everything Jefferson stood up for. Albert Gallatin, one of the best financial minds in the Republican Party, convinced Jefferson that the Bank of the U.S. was essential for financial stability. Although the creation of the Bank of the U.S. reduced the nation s debt from 83 million in 1800 to 57 million by 1809 , the creation in its self shows a great deal of broad constructionism. Although the bank was a reasonable means of carrying out powers related to taxation and the borrowing of funds, nowhere in the constitution does it state that congress has the power to charter a bank. John Randolph, a Republican congressman from Virginia, claimed that this government (Jeffersonian) created and gave power to congress to regulate commerce and equalize duties in the whole of the U.S, and not to lay a duty but with a steady eye to revenue . The prevalence of Parkinson s increases with age and may affect up to 5% of individuals over 79 years old. (Tosin, Campos, Andrade, Oliveira, Santana, 2015). Those affected by the disease, experience impairments in movement, balance, and have difficulty performing everyday life tasks. Due to posture deficits and gait dysfunction, patients with Parkinson s have an increased risk of falling which may lead to secondary health problems. Although exercise programs have been implemented to decrease falls, few programs are proven successful. (Li, Harmer, Fitzgerald, Eckstrom, Stock, Galver, Maddalozzo, Batya, 2012). In order to find an effective program in decreasing falls, nurses are performing various rehabilitation interventions that focus on improving postural stability. Two examples of interventions include Qi Gong and Tai Chi. Qi Gong is a mindful exercise that effects neuroplasticity in the brain and can have an effect on the postural instability that Parkinson s patients experience (Loftus, 2014). • 49. Leadership Is The Best Course Of Action For Leadership Leadership is a complex subject, but for our purposes can be defined as the act of one person influencing another person or group of people towards a common purpose that is beneficial for both the leader and their followers. Many approaches have been taken by academics in attempting to understand what leadership is at its core. Useful information has been unearthed by studying leadership qualities in individuals and by studying the dynamic between leader and follower. However, the abstractness of these studies left researches at somewhat of a loss for practical and relevant information, that is until research began on the observable behavior of leaders. The Style Approach is a useful way to look at the leader follower relationship because it incorporates elements of behaviorist psychology and applies them to the study leadership as a phenomenon. The goal of this essay is to use observable behavior in the context of the Leadership Grid to determine the best course of action for leadership in any scenario. Findings on Leadership via the Style Approach The Style Approach differs from other ways of understanding leadership in that it is focused on the here and now rather than traits or tendencies which are more difficult to quantify. This approach allows room for the subject of a study to change over time, rather than being rigidly casted as something because they displayed certain characteristics at a certain time. Medical Malpractice Crisis Analysis Implications of the medical malpractice crisis One implication of the medical malpractice crisis is that specialists in high risk fields are considering and/or leaving their practice which is drastically affecting the quality of patient care; treatment for patients who need specialists is declining rapidity (Cline Pepine). Insurance rates are so high that many doctor s either can t afford it and/or do not think it is worth staying in the practice. Patients are often forced to travel long distance for a specialist; waiting long hours at an overcrowded doctor s office with less efficiency in the quality of medical care (Cline Pepine). Another implication of the medical malpractice crisis is that a huge reason that insurance rates continue to skyrocket is the cost of court defense/attorney fees when a doctor loses which averages a half a million dollars (Abadinsky, 2014); it is also the reason why so many lawyers are eager to sue doctors.
