The Women Of Beauty
Women across the globe face this pressure to live up to a certain standard of beauty. Women will
dye their hair, wax their eyebrows, and some even spend thousands of dollars on plastic surgery, all
in an attempt to fit society s perception of beauty. African American women and women of color in
particular struggle to embrace their own unique beauty, especially when dealing with things such as
skin complexion, hair, and Afrocentric facial features. People have grown up in a society that
leads them to believe that beauty can be achieved if you have fair skin, straight hair, or having the
ideal body Societies views on what is attractive, can persuade another person s views on attraction.
Attraction is partially biological, but also social. Which is why it is important to have a vast
selection of beautiful women to show case that not only Eurocentric features are attractive. African
Americanwomen and other women of color need more representations of women that look like
them in the media. We need more shows and movies, portraying images of womanof color as
beautiful. . Out there in the world, is a young black/brown girl, who is idealizing Barbie s,
celebrities, and characters that look nothing like her, causing her to feel unaccepted for her
Afrocentric features. I am also concerned about the young girls growing up in this generation. It
breaks my heart to see young beautiful girls that have been brainwashed with the mentality that
being beautiful means being light skin and

Gender, Transgender, And Queer Essay
As a nation, the United States often views itself as a champion of lesbian, gay, bisexual,
transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) rights. While we are far ahead of many countries, quite a few of
which still criminalize same sex relationships, we aren t the queer utopia we like to see ourselves
as. Even today, there are many states within the US that do not have laws explicitly prohibiting
discriminationbased on sexual orientationin the workplace or during the hiring process. According
to the Human Rights Campaign s website, there are currently sixteen states that have no statewide
employment laws protecting the rights of queer and/or trans individuals in the workplace. An even
larger number of states have no laws protecting LGBTQ from housing discrimination. Since same
sex marriage was legalized in June 2015, many people feel as though the fight for equal rights is
over. However, what people tend to forget about, are the dozens of macro and microaggressions
queer people still face in many cities, towns, and states throughout the country. Not only are LGBT
people in the United States still subject to discrimination in educational institutions and in hiring
practices, but these discriminatory acts are highly regionalized. In 2011, the Gay, Lesbian Straight
Education Network (GLSEN) conducted the The National School Climate Survey, which aimed to
report the prevalence of homophobic and transphobic language in schools across the country. Not
surprisingly, the study reported that

Flat Hemorrhagic Smallpox Research Paper
Maddie Kusch
PAP Biology 6
February 9, 2016
Flat Hemorrhagic Smallpox Smallpox is caused by the virus variola, also known by its family
name Poxviridae. It comes in four variola forms: ordinary, modified, flat, and hemorrhagic. The
flat and hemorrhagic strains of smallpox are the most severe and usually result in death. Smallpox
is a highly contagious disease in which a person could have it for twelve to fourteen days before
symptoms first appear. Common symptoms include high fever, fatigue, headaches, exhaustion, and
back and abdominal pain that can lead to vomiting. Soon after these first signs a rash will begin to
appear starting on the face, then moving to the limbs, and finally the torso. The rash consists of
many red spots. They turn into blisters and then later scab leaving scars. However, most flat
hemorrhagic smallpox victims don t survive to see the scars left behind. The immune system of a
person with hemorrhagic smallpox is severely weakened. This allows the virus to grow faster in
the spleen and bone marrow causing flawed blood clotting and usually kills the victim by the fifth
or sixth day of the rash. This deadly virus can be transmitted through air, saliva, and the sores on a
victim. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most vaccines contain a dead virus, but not the smallpox vaccine. It contains a live virus; therefore,
it must be carefully handled because it can easily be transmitted. Once a person gets smallpox
they become immune to it. A smallpox vaccine only lasts three to five years. Most people who
get smallpox first experience lesions on their tongue and then it spreads around their face. Also,
the Latin word pox means spotted , which refers to the red bumps on their bodies. Scientists
worry about smallpox being used for bioterrorism and fear it will be altered into an even more
deadly and contagious virus. Smallpox is still being tested and researched

The Power Of Music In Whitney Houston s When You Believe
Music has the unique power to influence the attitudes and actions of a person. Whether it is used
as a source of hope and soulful reflection on past struggles, like in Whitney Houston s When You
Believe, or to draw strength and determination to Olympians in Vangelis Chariots of Fire, music
can provide spiritual, inspirational or hope filled meaning. In order to inspire and motivate year 12
students, the electrifying Chariots of Fire is clearly a superior choice compared to the spiritual and
soulful When You Believe. This is evident through the analysis of timbre, dynamics and expression
and pitch. Through the manipulation of the musical element timbre, it is clear that Chariots of Fire
is the favoured selection to inspire and motivate seniors... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Chariots of Fire, the consistent ascending and descending movement in the melodic contour,
heard at 0:34 0:50, represents the highs and lows of success, where it is common to get knocked
down (seen in the descending phase) and bounce back (seen in the repeated ascension of the
melody). This encourages students to be persistent to achieve success. When You Believe also has
this wave like contour, highlighted at 1:50 2:05. Unlike Chariots of Fire, this movement gradually
ascends during the climaxes of the piece, creating a sense of uplifting hope and celebration rather
than inspiration and motivation required. When You Believe contains melismas and passing notes,
evident at 1:00 1:20. Whilst this does provide diversity to the piece, the piece loses stability.
Dissimilarly, Chariots of Fire does not include this manipulation. This lack of embellishment
successfully grounds the piece, conveying a sense of drive and determination, motivating students
to work hard. Furthermore, When You Believe has a wide range and register, heard at 2:12 2:25.
The use of the high register adds a dream like and free quality to the piece, not suited to the
grounding of senior students. Dissimilarly, Chariots of Fire has a medium range and middle
register successfully grounding the piece, useful when attempting to motivate senior students.
Additionally, the chord progressions throughout Chariots of Fire portray a sense of unity and
strength, through the use of block chords. This has not been achieved in When You Believe, where
the chords are broken into 3 quavers (evident in bars 2 5), producing a smoother and more subdued
mood. The slow harmonic rhythm created by the Db sustained pedal portrays a sense of endurance
and reliability, both linking to the physiognomies of the characters in the movie and the

Marco Polo Comparison
Since the beginning of civilization, many travelers left their homelands in order to explore new
territories and cultures. Travelers such as Xuanzang, Marco Polo, and Ibn Battuta were all
introduced to new ideas that were recorded. During the Post Classical period, travelers in the new
world encountered shocking ideas that led them to engage in a wider world.
Although travelers visited various parts of the world, similar outlooks on different cultures were
made during the travels of Xuanzang, Marco Polo, and Ibn Battuta. One similarity between
travelers in the new world is the observation of religions. In A Biography of the Tripitaka Master ,
Xuanzang experienced how Buddhism was practiced in India. Similarly, In The Travels of Marco

One difference between travelers in the new world is the experience of world religions in
different continents. In The Travels of Marco Polo , Marco Polo had only experienced
Buddhism in China. In Ibn Battuta s Travels in Asia and Africa , Ibn Battuta s experience of
Arab Islam showed him the differences between Islam in different parts of Africa, as well as in
the Middle East and Africa. Another difference between travelers in the new world is the
evaluation of economic features in different societies. In The Travels of Marco Polo , Marco
Polo observes the trading aspects of Indian Ocean trade in Ganfu. This is important because it
shows the effects that trade has in China. Unlike Marco Polo, Xuanzang in A Biography of the
Tripitaka Master focuses on the religious aspects in Indian society. An additional difference
between travelers in the new world is discovering prominent social aspects of societies. In
Record of the Western Region , Xuanzang describes the social classes in the caste system, as
well as the limitations of marriage for women in India . In The Travels of Marco Polo , Marco
Polo describes the respect of citizens for married women, as well as their king. This is important
because it shows the difference between the social aspects of China and

FIFA Controversy
Based in Zurich, The FГ©dГ©ration Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) is the
international governing body of association football, futsal, and soccer. It has been recognized as
the United Nations of Football , affiliated with 209 associations across the globe (FIFA, 2015).
Like any other sport organization however, FIFA has long experienced allegations following the
decision of Russia being awarded the 2018 World Cup and Quatar having the 2022 hosting rights.

However, after almost four years of being awarded, reports of corruption, vote buying, and
human rights abused has surfaced the news (Chi, 2014). The Telegraph reported that the former
FIFA Vice President, Jack Warner, and his family were paid millions from a company controlled
by a former Quatari football official in order to sway the vote on the 2022 World Cup.
Supporting documents have showed that payments totaling $750,000 were made to Warner s
sons, and additional $400,000 was paid to one of his employees (Claire et al, 2014). According
to writer Samuel Chi from the Diplomat, he resigned from the organization in June 2011, but not
before votes were cast in December 2010. Investigations from the FBI took effect immediately
regarding the issue of Mr. Warner and his links to the Quatari bid. Russia was also subject to
controversy of breaking FIFA rules. Allegedly, the Sunday Times reported that the president of
Russia, Vladmir Putin, was a suspect of engaging in vote trading and vote buying to win the support
of FIFA voters (Sunday Times, 2014). The allegations were contained within a database. Both
Russia and Quatar have denied accusations, but US and Swiss authorities continue to investigate
the organization s bidding process. Although Domenico Scala, the head of FIFA s audit and
compliance committee has not found real evidence against Russia and Quatar, he warns

A Proposal On Elmer s Place At New Britain
We have decided to do our proposal on Elmer s Place in New Britain, CT. The reasoning behind
our choice is for multiple reasons including geographical location, area of interest, and the fact we
are customers that purchase the company s products and services. We are hoping that the prior
insight into the company will help us scrutinize the business more in depth, allowing us to
maximize the knowledge we gain from the project. Aforementioned this business is an area of
interest to us all; therefore it will be beneficial to see how a company within this market operates,
and what kinds of systems are in place to contribute to its success.

However, if you do not schedule enough people, then you could lose out on sales and customers are
likely to get frustrated.
Since Elmer s doesn t only offer alcohol service there is a large number of differently titled
employees, which then takes more management planning and organizing. Due to there being a food
section and the legal implications of running a bar staff members such as a chef, and security are
needed. Following this, other members of staff are needed to run the bar are, bartenders, cleaners,
manager, and a maintenance team. With the bar being located in a student populated area, the
scheduling at Elmer s must be made in regards to the demand from the customer specifically on
the Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights. Scheduling is imperative to ensure the business runs
efficiently as there is a heavy fluctuation in the amount of customers dependent on the time, and
day. To run an efficient service Elmer s needs to ensure that they are maximizing output for the
cost of employees. Because of this they have to be fully aware of the personnel consuming their
service, and how they can provide the highest quality service possible for the lowest cost, After
conducting some research we were able to gain access to the scheduling system in place at Elmer s
Place and discover how they eradicate both understaffing and overstaffing. It is interesting to see
the system that is implemented in order to gage how many people they employees they have

Listserv, the most popular program for managing discussion lists also handles subscription via
mail messages, archives incoming messages, and allows users to retrieve these and other

Topics range from various hobbies, political discussions to operational aspects of different
computer systems and research questions. For the user, discussion lists are an easy way to
identify and contact a large number of people with similar interests. A discussion list can also be
considered as a worldwide forum for expressing views and discussing opinions.
While messages are automatically sent to all subscribed users in the case of a discussion list
and one has to be subscribed in order to receive the messages, messages in Netnews are
distributed between a net of servers. Messages are organized in a hierarchy of newsgroups.
Incoming messages are stored for a particular period in a publicly accessible area. Each user can
connect to this area, browse through the stored messages, and respond to any one of them. This
way Netnews allows for a better overview of ongoing discussions but requires the user to actively
connect to the respective area.
One of the reasons for the creation of a computer network like the Internet was to give users access
to remote computers and to allow them to transfer files to and from this machine. These are typical

sunday morning of December 7, 1941, where many military personnel had a time of leisure.
Many of them either were still sleeping, in halls eating breakfast, or getting ready for church. I
who had been in the mess hall having breakfast sat with a group of men, enjoying a warm bowl
of oatmeal and coffee. As I took a sip of coffee I felt all my muscles awaken and gain strength
ready for what this day would bring me. It was just another day of work, or that is what we all

the sounds of planes racing through the thick air, and the crowd of people grew silent. I looked

I looked into the sky and around 183 aircrafts flew through the air. Everyone looked around at each

Synthesis, Recrystallization of ОІ D Glucose Pentaacetate from its Original D Glucose and it
comparison with literature though Melting point, TLC, IR, 1H and 13C NMR
Abstract:
The synthesis of the product: ОІ D glucose pentaacetate is done though the acetylation using acetic
anhydride with D glucose with the help of sodium acetate. The recrystallization of the product is

In order to yield more of the ОІ glucose pentaacetate, the precursor: ОІ glucose must be present as
much within the mixture in which the sodium acetate comes in to play, Sodium acetate will allow
the rotation of the hydroxyl of the anomeric carbon to its equatorial position whereas a strong
acid will do the reverse process: Reverse to it axial position. Based on the study by Perles et al.
2008, the equatorial structure of ОІ glucose pentaacetate and it respective interactions with a polar
solvent such as water used in this experiment provided more stability and when glucose
pentaacetate recrystallizes, a larger amount of ОІis shown to be a perfect fit in the three
dimensional structure clusters within water. The О± glucose doesn t as it is more sterically

Toni Morrison Victimizers
In the novel A Mercy by Toni Morrison, an award winning novelist and researcher, she suggests
that the characters in the novel are both victims and victimizers. She supports this claim by first
creating a character that have gone through struggles in the past and using their beliefs as a
reason to isolate another person. Then she created a character that had many sorrows and
tragedies in their life and use the grief as a reason to abuse other people. Finally Morrison used a
character to use their hardships of their past to justify the treatment of their children. Morrison s
purpose is to explain where we come from in order to explain our roots and how we interact with
the world, each other, and our pasts. This work is significant because Morrison uses the qualities
of victims and victimizers in the same characters to show that people can be both. According to

Nationalism And Perspectives Of People About Nation Can...
1.Ever wondered how nationalism and perspectives of people about nation can bring revolution in
the society?, First of all nationalism can be taken as both positive and negative ways. For instance,
being faithful to your country is acceptable but when you cross your limit in order to degrade
another race, culture or to show that you are the dominant one, that s when it becomes negative
and delivers a wrong message among other people. Phases of nationalism kept on changing as the
time passed in Europe. It all started in year 1800s and continued until World War II, where they
saw all negative and positive effects of nationalism. Starting from Abbe Sieyes who was with

What is the third estate? Everything.

His statement give readers an idea of the situation of third estate and how ready they are to gain
a position in society. He believed that nation is a group of people living under same rules and
regulations carried out by the same legislature. Further, he stated that since third estate is
everything, they can claim to be part of the nation, who will follow same rules. The motive of
that nation would be to develop the individuals as the nation is made of them. Now coming onto
Mazzini who thought that upper classes always used the lower classes. He believed that people
in the society, people should say we and not I to reduce the possibilities of conflicts between
classes. Upper classes always used the word us to get their work done by the lower classes and
once they got their work done, they went back to showing their dominance and using I and
degrading the lower classes and make them feel like nothing. People should come together and
should concentrate both on society and individual growth as as a group of individuals will become
members of the society and, he stated that if right to existence is the first inviolable right of every

Summary Of The Perils Of Indifference
Holocaust survivor, Elie Wiesel, in his speech, The Perils of Indifference, argues that indifference
can destroy mankind as it can obliterate a person s humanity. He supports his claim by first
expressing his gratitude for his audience for their fight against insouciance to gain their trust, then
uses logical reasoning to convey that the United Stateshas committed acts of indifference to
showcase the severity of the situation, and evokes emotion by proclaiming how children endure
indifference. Wiesel s purpose is to expose the harsh reality that apathyimposes on its victims to
bring awareness of the issue in hope that the audience acts upon it. He adopts an empathetic tone for
government officials and politicians who influence society.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Wiesel proclaims that We see their faces, their eyes. Do we hear their pleas? Do we feel their
pain, their agony? Every minute one of them dies of disease, violence, famine. Wiesel specifically
utilities children as examples of victims of indifference as it is an easy way to induce the audience
to gain sympathy for the victims who endure apathy, and ultimately will want to create change.
Children are seen as helpless beings due to the fact that they depend a considerable amount on
others. Due to this reality, children are usually more vulnerable to impassivity as they become
much more impotent as they receive little or no aid in their fight against indifference. This method
is used in many subject matters such as the United Nations Children s Fund (UNICEF) who
provides humanitarian assistance to children in developing countries. The UNICEF puts out
many commercials to help hungry children in developing countries; however, children aren t
the only ones who are hungry. There are many adults and some elderly who face starvation as
well, but using footage of starving children provokes more emotion from consumers in first
world countries who are the ones who donate money and food to those children out of sympathy
for them as children are universally known to be dependent on others and are seen as helpless
beings. Wiesel utilizes the same strategy in his speech. He could use other examples of victims
of apathy, but ultimately employs children as an examples for the purpose of inducing emotion
out of his audience. Wiesel also inputs this emotional appeal at the end of his speech as a final
attempt to bring awareness to his audience about the severity of insouciance to prompt them to
create change. It is as if it is a final call to action as he ends the speech carried by profound fear and
extraordinary hope. This fear is evoked and supported by

The Theory Of Lying As Being The Most Widely Accepted...
Webster s Dictionary defines lying as an assertion of something known or believed by the speaker
to be untrue with the intent to deceive. Although there are many definitions of what lying is they
are often condemned wrong by many philosophers. Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy describes
one definition of lying as being the most widely accepted definition. A lieis a statement made by one
who does not believe it with the intention that someone else shall be led to believe it. The reason
this definition is often accepted by most is because in order to object and revise this definition in
anyway one must first explain the four imperative conditions for lying. An individual must first

The individual telling the respectable lie does not lie for any type of personal gain or
satisfaction. In Judith Viorst piece The Truth about Lying, states the reason why people tell
respectable, or protective lies, is because they are often convinced that the truth would be too
damaging. Judith Viorst goes on to state that they lie because they feel there are certain human
values that supersede the wrong of having lied. An example Judith Viorst uses to describe this
type of lie is parents lying to their children about their marital status. The couple may not be
want to inform their children of their failing marriage to avoid the possibility of any emotional
damages the truth may cause. Another example of a respectable lie would be a combat medic lying
to a dying Soldier in order to keep the Soldier calm so they may pass away in peace.
An excusable can be described as a lie that is understandable and inconsequential. This specific
type of lie is universally known as a white lie. An excusable lie does not always cause harm to
any one person. Instead, this type of lie is most times used by an individual who is lying to avoid
blame or punishment. An example would be a Soldier showing up late to physical training because
they over slept and then telling their Sargent they were late because they had a flat tire. In The
Truth about Lying, Judith Viorst discusses social lies. She stated that most people she talked to

Rapid Economic Growth In China Essay
For the past three decades, critics have immersed themselves in the discourse of China s rapid
economic growth and development. For a socialist regime, the emergence on China s remarkable
economic achievement has been one of the world s most unprecedented success stories. Sai leung
Ng (2000) emphasized on China s success, describing China as the country with the most rapid
economic growth of the time. Paul Collier (2007) noted that individuals in the west were starting to

comment, Jean Francois Huchet (2006) rated the Chinese economy among the top five leading
economies in the world. In the book, Why Nations Fail, Acemoglu and Robinson (2012, p. 86)
exhibit their astonishment stating China has made great strides towards inclusive economic

Medicine And Medicine In The Elizabethan Era
Medicine and Shakespeare The power of community to create health is far greater than any
physician, clinic, or hospital. (Mark Hyman). In the Elizabethan Era, most of society was
poverty stricken, which drove communities to improvise to help the sick as real doctors and
physicians were too expensive. Barbers and wise women rose to the occasion of helping the
sick, although they did not have much medical knowledge. Medical knowledge was also lacked
in professional doctors and physicians as their knowledge revolved around their religion, leaving
the sick in the mercy of misconceptions. During the 16th century, society suffered from lack of
medical knowledge and ignorance to the benefit of sanitation, resulting in misconceptions of
faulty doctors that brought expansion of diseases and death. Society was deprived of the proper
sanitation that would of helped prevent most diseases that killed many. The daily routines of
commoners contributed to the extension of diseases as those routines were not very hygienic.
For example, people emptied their bodily waste into cesspits, which served as a breeding grounds
for fatal diseases (Catcher); people rarely changed their clothes as they usually only had an outfit
for each season; and peasants had to use dried leaves as toilet paper. During their menstrual cycle,
women had to use tampons and pads made up of old rags and cloths wrapped around naturally
absorbent moss (Catcher), which can lead to infections in the genitals as the

Questions On Primary Conversions And Multiples
Table 2 present arrival times of primary conversions and multiples, but it is challenging to see those
multiples in the RFs and look like noise. Additionally, the authors do not use such a long window in
the inversion.
Methodology: The authors try to summarize three different methods, but few statements are not
correct and others give different meaning. They can move Receiver Functions section to the
observations section as those are really the secondary observations obtained using the deconvolution
of seismograms. I present here few examples of problematic statement.
The authors say Gaussian width of 2.5 Hz is applied , but the Gaussian width does not have any
unit. The authors can check Ammon s webpage for more details ... Show more content on

Importantly, this is how we solve the most of the geophysical inverse problem and works well with
some limitations. It is also not clear why the authors do not apply Neighborhood Algorithm (NA)
for the Moho depth and other interfaces.
The authors apply NA, which has two important tuning parameters. Those parameters help to
achieve faster convergence. It is important to note that those parameters depend on the problem, but
the authors never mention how those parameters were tuned and convergence was decided.
The authors also mention that they use 24 parametric bounds of Shibhutani et al. (1996), Clitheroe
et al., 2000, Fontaine et al. 2013 with six layers without any proper justification. My understanding
is that each layer has 4 parameters (thickness, S velocity, Vp/Vs ratio, and density). However, the
authors mention that the layer properties are represented by thickness, S velocity and Vp/Vs ratio.
In that case, is the density fixed to some values? Additionally, why do they decide to fix it to six
layers, why not five/seven?
The authors say in line 240 that the set of 24 parameters in the inversion are relatively well
constrained and not sure relative to what?
Section 4.4: Mathematics on the H K stacking is not required unless the authors have done this
differently. Mathematics also suffers from the same notations used for different variables (e.g.,
variance and Poisson s ratio). Moreover, the authors derive relations for standard deviation of

Critical Analysis Of The Baddest Dog In Harlem
English essay The Baddest Dog in Harlem
In this assignment an analyze and a interpret of the short story called the Baddest Dog in Harlem is
written . The analyze will focus on the settings and the tone of the voice. The young adult novel is
written by Walter Dean Myers, an African American.
The narrator in the text do we not get much information about, but it is likely that he is black
since he lives in Harlem. His friends in the text are Mr. Lynch Wille, and Pedro. In the beginning
of the text, it starts with in medias res with the narrator and his friends sitting and discussing who
the best fighter is, but all of a sudden a police car shows up in front of them because they got a tip
about a man carrying an automatic weapon. A policeman asks the characters in for how long they
have been sitting and Pedro Answers two hours maybe three . They seem to be unemployed since
they can spend hours talking who the best fighter is.
The setting is Harlem. Harlem is in northern Manhattan New York. It is known as a major African
American cultural, business and residential center. From 1920 2008, most of the populations have
been African Americans . Harlem is known as one of the worst areas for crime in New York and it
also has the biggest crime rate in Manhattan. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even though the story is written correctly with prober English, when we hear the thoughts of the
narrator, slang is used much on quotes when African Americans are talking. An example is when
the narrator says What they mean about some automatic weapons . Another example is also
when Pedro called out to an officer and says We got to get away from fore we get sot up . The
two examples on the quotes are clearly grammatically wrong, but at the same time they can also
give a picture on how people in Harlem talks. When it comes to language the youth in Harlem,
especially talks differently than other and the author of the novel also wanted his story to sound

Essay On A Quilt Of A Country By Nadine Gordimer
A quilt of a country is an essay about the idea that every man in the united states is created equal.
Anna Quindlen says that the united states is like a huge quilt. That means that it is full of many
different crazy people who come together as one when it matters. Also this means if our country is
in danger like on 9/11 the people of the united states no matter what racehelp each other. Also in the
text she compares America to a mongrel what she means by this is that
America is full of all different people from all different races and people who are of two races. I
believe that the United States is better as a mixed nation with all different races.

Before the heron her father didn t show affection to her or his job. I do believe that symbols are an
important part of a person s life and can be seen everywhere.
What all these stories have in common is they all talk about something that is seen in our
everyday lives. The first story talks about how America is a nation full of all different people
from all different races. She refers to our nation as a mongrel of a nation meaning it is full of
mixed people. The second story talks about slavery in africa and how it affected her. You can
still see forms of slavery in today s society like in china were the kids work in horrible conditions
for little pay. Lastly the third story talks about symbolism and how a dad needed to pay more
attention to his daughter. You can see symbols all over the world in many different shapes, sizes,
and forms.
In conclusion i believe that all of these stories are important in their own way. Also i believe that
these points need to be solved before we can move on. Child slavery in china is a huge problem
that needs to be resolved. Also neglective parents need to be talked to about what they are doing to
their child. Lastly people need to learn to accept the fact that the united states is a mongrel country

Allan Kardec s The Gospel According To Spiritism
What is Our Plan?
Discovering Spiritism leads one to the feeling that you are on a roller coaster and are unable to
get off. The more you read, the more questions you have, then you try and find where they could
be answered, but at the end you have a larger set of questions than when you started. The
numerous questions could be separated into major categories. One of the most significant set of
inquiries concerns the matter of your personal destiny. The discussion of the plan for your life on
earth is scattered throughout Kardec s books and in psychographed books by mediums, such as
Francisco C. Xavier. This article pulls together different sources to present to you an introduction of
the basic principles and concepts that have dictated your life s plan.
In Allan Kardec s The Gospel According to Spiritism, the starting point for understanding your
trials is in this paragraph, Christ said, Blessed are the afflicted, for they shall be comforted . But
how can we bless suffering if we don t know why we suffer? Spiritism shows that the cause lies in
previous existences and in the destiny of earth, where humans expiate their past. It shows them the
purpose of their suffering as being salutary which lead to healing and which are the purification that
ensures happiness in future existences. Humans understand that they ... Show more content on

Immigration And The Immigration Act Of 1903
Introduction Immigration to the US has always been a complex phenomenon involving the
development of different people from different nations, cultures, and has added to the United State s
rich history. Immigration has brought both benefits and consequences to the United States in forms
of economic stability and opportunity, mass settlements of foreign peoples, but also culture clash
all resulting in the US attempt to curb immigration with the passing of several legislations. Many
attempts to curb immigration were taken by US Congress with the passing of the Chinese
Exclusion Act in 1882, and the Immigration Act of 1903; all used to insure specific laws and
boundaries set on immigrants. Heavy resentment against immigrants in the US pushed Congress for
limitations that brought many tensions against races like the Irish and Chinese. To capture the true
essence of immigration and its responses by the State, one must make a critical effort in analyzing
the historical patterns of migration to the New World, including the United States. It begins with
colonial America when large populations of people, mainly English, French, German, and Spanish
migrated to America with a deliberate intent to exploit the people, land, and resulting in the creation
of caste system of subjugation. This first set of immigrants to America would be later considered as
Old Immigrants, being differentiated from New Immigrants that would later come in time. As a
result of the conquest of Mexico,

The central role of enzymes is to function as biological catalysts. Since the fundamental tasks of a
protein is to act as an enzyme, catalysts increase the rate of the activation energy within a cell. Cell
contain thousands of different enzymes, and their activities determine what chemical reaction will
take place within the cell. The enzymeand the activation energy function as a process within the

productivity and speed of chemical reactions within our body, it s important to understand how they

There is a class of related enzymes known as Phenolases. These enzymes catalyze the oxidation of
compunds that have hydroxyl groupds attatched to a benzene ring, recongized as phenols. The

The Application Of Pedagogical Principles
Analyse the application of pedagogical principles in own area of specialism
Pedagogy is a word that is used to describe the art and science of teaching. Pedagogical roles are the
many and varied that a teacher may perform while teaching, such as structuring, soliciting,
responding and reacting. Other roles involve assessing, criticising, discussing, encouraging,
enquiring, evaluating, explain, giving individual instruction, lecturing, organising, presenting,
questioning and answering, repeating and reviewing and team teaching and tutoring etc.
(L.Walklin 2000; pg 175)
In my own specialist area (Maths) I used pedagogic technologies like Power points for delivering
the sessions, and for messages I would use E mail, SMS and Twitter. For assignments I would
prefer my students to use Digital library, E books, Websites and Newsfeeds. Sometimes I give
tasks like Statistical analysis, Data analysis, Spreadsheet, and Search engine to my learners to do
independent work on computers. I also do Computer based assessment tools e.g. multiple choice

The reason is because they would receive 5,000,000 dollars to start over in the west. When the

some food for their tribe. Even though they won t be able to get there gold back they still will be
rich in dollar bills. Also they will receive 7,000,000 acres of land. On the other side of the
argument there is a resist side. The resist side is telling them to resist because the Cherokee was
their first, and there forefathers inherited that land, and that they was already rich in gold and
nutrients. I said accept instead of resist because there tribe will become extinct and die out
because the U.S Government will attack the Cherokee. Some more reasons the Cherokee should
leave is if they don t they will be attacked and terminated by the Government. The Cherokee will

ABC called What Would You Do? ran a social experiment to see how people would react to
blatant acts of racism. The experiment was set in a deli located in Linden, New Jersey. Two

Blanche depends on manner, on affected little girl innocence, to sustain her (Hirsch 33). That is
quite evident at the very beginning of the play when she seems to be disgusted by the way her
sister lives with her husband. However, Blanche s evasive explanation of her early arrival, before
the end of the spring term at the school in Laurel, is a clear indication that something went wrong
with Blanche. In her first meeting with Stanley it becomes quite clear that Stanley and Blanche are
antagonist and protagonist. Twice in scene 1, a cat screeches near the window, startling Blanche
and now summoning up a cat and mouse image for the relationship between Stanley and Blanche
(Londre 47).
In the second scene, the audience witnesses Blanche s obsessive bathing, just to quiet my nerves
(Williams 39) as she told her sister Stella, but it is a nominal gesture of guilt and wished for
redemption (Bloom 16). In a single moment of deviation from her mood of gaiety in this scene,
Blanche withholds a faded, ribbon tied sheaf of love letters: Poems a dead boy wrote. I hurt him
that way you would like to hurt me ... (Williams 41). That shows her feeling of guilt about the death
of her husband.

inheritance having taken on added importance as Stella has taken on added girth with her

Summary Of Song Of A Citizen
The purpose of this assignment was to reflect on the poem Song of a Citizen using critical analysis
to understand the complete meaning of what Milosz has written within the text. The poem Song of
a Citizen is an illuminating reflection on the abominable conditions of the Jewish people and the
suffering they have endured wrapped into a piece on how a prisoner is separated from the natural
world, connected by Milosz s incredible writing ability.
The poem Song of a Citizen is an open book that allows the reader a deep view into the inner
character of its speaker. Firstly, we see many of the speaker s views reflected in the poem s
numerous verses. For example, in verse 9, he says that it is better to be a live dog than a dead lion ,
which shows how he has felt and acted in this perilous situation. This could even be taken so far
as to say that, because of the horrors he faced during the war, the speaker feels that it is better to
be living than even to die a courageous death. Additionally, another revealing verse was from 20
25, which symbolized his continuing relationship with the world. He mentions a copper leaved
garden , which can be seen as a parallel to fall or winter trees, as well as a heart of metal , which
could describe the heart of manufacturing combined with nature. This shows the speaker s character
as we see how he connects nature to freedom and beauty, running a parallel to countless prisoners
and captives(including the Jews) who were separated from nature

The relationship between the federal government of the United States and the state and local
governments is unique. This relationship in the modern age has become more interconnected and
complicated than ever before. The weaknesses of American Federalism has never been as glaringly
obvious as it was in the response by state, local and federal governments to the devastation of
Hurricane Katrina. Failures by multiple elected officials and government agencies exacerbated an
already dire situation by delaying much needed aid to the gulf region. This, combined with a
fundamental misunderstanding of the physical geography of the region, led to policies that

Federal agencies failed to respond to multiple attempts by both private and public institutions to
warn of the possibility of a large scale disaster spurred by a land falling hurricane. An independent
study financed by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and completed more than
a year before Katrina, found that New Orleans was the U.S. city most susceptible to hurricane
damage. FEMA elected to take no further action than to circulate the results of the report to the
organization. Some think this may have been worsened by the decision to place FEMA under
Department of Homeland Security, which decreased funding and restricted natural disaster
response resources.
The federal government also failed the gulf region in the policy decisions made concerning the
management of natural resources in the area and the effect on its physical geography. One of these
programs was called the Mississippi River Gulf Outlet or MRGO. The purpose of this project was
to provide an economic boost to the region by increasing river traffic, and also aid in the
recurring flood water issues in the Mississippi Delta Region. A byproduct of the project was that
it increased the flow of water south to New Orleans. Government subsidies were given to
companies drilling in the New Orleans region for oil and natural gas even though this was causing

Therapeutic Play Therapy
Play is a very important aspect in the development of human health and happiness (Schaefer,
1993). The following are some of the ways in which play can be beneficial, as described by play
theorists. Play alleviates feelings of stress and helps us positively connect to others (Landreth,

The Special Relationship Between The Uk And The United States
It was only because of the special relationship with the USA that Britain could exert an influence
on international affairs in the years 1951 to 2007. Assess the validity of this view.
The Special Relationship between the UK and the US relates to the unusually close relationship
between these two world powers that has developed over the 20th and 21st centuries. They have
an incredibly tight co operation on such a wide variety of things, ranging from trade and
economics to military power, nuclear weapons and intelligence; one that is almost unprecedented
in history for two separate nations. After the Second World War, when the relationship was
crystallised by the term it became one as much of personal friendships as of political power; and
given the closeness developed between the two nations as a result of wartime, it became a keystone
of post war politics in both countries, having significant impact in both of their subsequent histories,
and also those of other nations. Some of these relationships have been iconic in their pairings:
Margaret Thatcher and Ronald Reagan; Tony Blairand George Bush; Churchill and Franklin

Macular Degeneration
Condition:
Macular Degeneration is a problem in the part of the eye that controls your sharpest central
vision. It is a group of diseases that result in a loss of detailed vision. The brain will not just leave
the spot empty, so it learns to fill it in with spotty macular cell damage. People most of the time
don t tell their doctors (opthalmologists) about it until it is well in advance.

Wet Macular Degeneration causes more severe loss of vision. Dry Macular Degeneration is the
age related type. There is no proven cure for dry Macular Degeneration.
Cause:
Basically what my research is stating is that there is a major genetic component that contributes to
this disease. There are three general types of hereditary Macular Degeneration. The first is called
early onset. This is when you get it when you are four years of age up to seven. In this type both
parents and their children can be affected. This means it is dominantly inherited. Most of the time
this is called Best Disease or Viteliform Macular Degeneration.
The second type is called middle onset. This is from five years of age up to twenty years of age.
This type is called Stargarett s disease. This is the Juvenile Macular Degeneration. This type is
recessively inherited. Meaning that this type can appear even if only a couple family members
have it.

Essay on Two Forms of Journalism
Two Forms of Journalism Recent events such as the tsunami disaster (where blogs helped in
covering the enormous size of the story), the war in Iraq (where blogs help to present both
opinions of all parties involved), the Dan Rather s scandal, a CBS Evening News anchor who
reported as authentic a series of forged documents about George W. Bush (where blogs were highly
instrumental in exposing him) have all contributed to the growing popularity of citizen journalism.
So, why is there a recent growth in popularity of citizen journalism? Is it because of the scandals
that has eroded the credibility of traditional journalism or is out of touch with today s media
landscape? And does any of it eventually mean the decline of traditional... Show more content on

Another incidence includes the fabrication and plagiarisms in numerous articles by Jayson Blair,
a Times reporter, who was exposed in 2003 after his article: After effects: The Missing; Family
Waits, Now Alone, for a Missing Soldier , in which he incorporated passages from an article that
was published earlier in The San Antonio Express.
Traditional journalism has also prided itself as being an objective source of media, but pure
objectivity is just a mirage. The limitation of human nature causes us to be biased, as we all have
opinions which we directly or indirectly express in our communication, Added to this the financial,
time and area space causes journalism to be subjective to a certain degree. But, another question
arises, is subjectivity, an expression of one s opinions, necessarily bad? After all opinions give
meaning to facts. One may argue that the presentation of opinions in the media would preclude
people from making their own judgments, but aren t peoply independent beings with a mind of
their own?
However, from the standpoint of traditional journalism where the audience has a trusted
relationship with the media source or media person it might not be such good idea to be subjective
mostly because of the certain sense of loyalty of the audience member towards his/her particular

Summer Reflection Paper
My 2016 summer was a great journey. I was engulfed with driving and traveling around with my
family. During the summer my family and i bought a new lake house. So, almost every week
we would drive up there. I loved it cause i got wake up to the smell of the lake. I d get to see the
white fog covering the icy feeling of the lake in the morning. I really enjoyed it because when i
m up there, i feel it relieves so much stress. I don t have to worry about the news or school. To
me it s almost like a new world. Also, I love going out on the lake, doing tubing and more.
Overall the lake is a fun place to go to get away from the rest of the world and relax. Also to
spend time with family. Another big part of me being up there so much was that I eventually
got to know the owners of the local marina on the lake. Eventually i got to know them so well,
that i decided to apply for a job there. With a little help from my mom, i was able to fill out a
form and turn it in. Before i even knew it I got the job! It was fun and a big experience for me. It
was big for me because this was actually was my first official job experience, on the books. My
mom actually said to me, James make sure you act like a professional when at work. You never
know what life skills you might learn there. I got to work the cash register and in the kitchen,
cooking foods etc. One of my favorite memories was that i got to meet new people and get
introduced to their lifestyles. The other people who worked there were around the ages 16 21. It
was fun because we were all teenagers and around the same age. We would talk about hanging
out after work and It was a new but fun experience for me. Another thing that was cool about my
job at the marina is that I could either swim or walk there in less than 5 minutes. One cool thing
about working there is that every Friday and Saturday night there would be concerts at the
marina and a ton of people would come. My boss would get me to serve food and beverages to the
people who ordered It for the concert. Overall this part of of my summer crafted me into a hard
working and dedicated kid. I remember one night when me and my family were up at the lake, It
was our neighbors party. (They re 30.) We went over and

Pros And Cons Of Dog Parks
The lack of off leash styled dog parks across the United States of America have brought much
debate and unrest within communities. Cities and neighborhoods that do not provide these types
of dog parks make it difficult for pet owners to provide exercise, social activities, and a place where
dog and dogowners grow and learn together. Park and recreationadvocates question the public
advocacy on the assets and location in construction for the dog park. Other locals are against the
idea of off leash style dog parks due to their concerns about safety and other potentially
problematic issues. Ed Fowley a reporter and dog owner from Los Angeles states, ...They don t
know how strong the pack instincts are in their family pets. These drives can and often do click
into high gear when a dog is taken into a park with strange dogs. (Fowley). Dog parks can vary
from different shapes and sizes however, the certain type of dog parks pertaining to this
problem are those in which dog owners are legally able to allow their dogs to roam unbound by
leashes or constrictions regulated by city and state. The park and recreation advocates of
communities who have few or little to none, off leash dog parks are struggled to balance the fine
line that crosses the accounts and finances of production all the while, fight fear that it may
create more issues. Families that use off leash dog parks are able to thoroughly help and develop
their dogs for a better life. Off leash dog parks allow both pets and owners to learn and grow
through exercising and socializing without constant worry of infringing someone else rights. It
benefits dogs as they are given adequate space to run and use as an outlet meanwhile, recognizing
certain behaviors of more respectable and mature pets through socializing. Properly exercising dogs
allow them to relieve tension and unbend; this potentially changes them from being noisy and
irritable into more quite and friendlier animals. There have been numerous accounts within my
neighborhood where the local residents have filed noise complaints on local dog owners. In the
recent study, On the Fence: Dog Parks in the (Un)Leashing of Community and Social Capital,
authors Taryn Graham and Troy Glover of the

The Prohibition Of The Second Amendment
Gun control is one of the most debated about topic today in America; between news outlet, the
public, and politicians. As some politicians look to resolve the gun control issues, with banning
them, imposing more restriction to sellers, buyers and owner; some people and politicians consider
the second amendment to be relic and should be removed from the constitution. History has shown
us time and time again even through all the violence and chaos in the world and America, that there
is a reason for the creation of the second amendment. From history of America independence in
1776 to the ratification of the bill of right in 1791 the 2nd amendment still remains relevant form it
creation, to modern times, and the protection of America s future; for the freedom of its inhabitants
and citizens. The once influential 20th century thinker George Santayana once said, Those who
cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it . Looking back into ancient history, the
history of second amendment, recent and current history we can find clues that will support the
relevance of the 2nd amendment. We will also define the second amendment and try to find
solutions to our current problems from what our forefathers had say. The United States of
America, only 240 years old; still one of the youngest nations to come to power, still has a thing or
two to learn from ancient history. Rome, an empire for more than 500yrs, had similar belief some
American politicians of disarming the people. The

from harm, but that is not always the case. Throughout history, the ones that are designated to

uncommon for them just to look the other way and not charge the other office of any crime. In the
United States the defining of police brutalityis the wanton use of excessive force, this could be

This would have just been another incident between the Los Angeles police department and an

Witchcraft in the 16th Century Essay
The origins of 16th century witchcraft were changing social, economic and religious conditions in
Europe and America. The desire to find a scapegoat for the change resulted in a genocide known as
the Burning Times that lasted more than a century.

Witches were accused of casting spells
on unfortunate victims and were often sentenced to death by hanging, drowning or by being burned
to death.
History of The persecution of people practicing witchcraft in the 16th century began in England in
1589. However, the country s concern with witchcraft had been growing throughout the century,
largely in response to the current social, economic and religious conditions in the country. Although
people accused of practicing witchcraft had been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Besides testimony, witches were also identified by midwife s examination. If any black marks
were found on the accused s body, the mark was often considered Satan s mark and proof that she
was a witch.

Significance The 16th century witch hunts resulted in the deaths of nearly
50,000 people. The majority of the accused and sentenced were poor and elderly women who did
not have a stable place in society.
It is theorized that the witchcraft hysteria was in response to
women s growing role in society. During the 16th century, single, unmarried and independent
women represented a societal shift that a large portion of the population was uncomfortable with.
The result was genocide and what some have called a holocaust. Society, including women, rejected
the notion of unmarried women living alone, without a husband or family, or women who did not
go to church and abide by prevailing social norms.

In the 17th century, the presence of witches reached incredible attention with accusations and
executions of people accused of witchcraft. The fear caused by these trials and executions spurred
many people to become the accuser rather than become the accused. The snowball effect this
caused culminated in a mass hysteria in Europe and the colonies. Today, it is speculated that many
of the people who were accused and ultimately executed for witchcraft were innocent. History
Witchcraft has long been a part of our world s history. Fear of witches eventually

Ponyboys Home
In front of me today, we have the Curtis brothers here to determine whether Ponyboy Curtis
should be out into foster care or stay under the care of his older brother Darry Curtis. Since the
parents of the boys passed away in a car wreck, they have lived together. However after recent
actions, this arrangement has been brought to our attention that the youngest of the brothers,
Ponyboy, may need to be withdrawn from the house. The recent death of Bob involving the late
Johnny Cade and Ponyboy has given me reason to believe that Ponyboy may need to be removed
from the Curtis household unless the information I hear gives me reason to think otherwise.

have talked to a therapist over many cases like these and the one thing she always says is, By

By moving away Ponyboy I could also be decided to move away his childhood. By doing that it

I acknowledge that it is unfair to make absolute demands without a full understanding of the forces

created a warm, accommodating environment that enabled our success.
Overcoming Weaknesses: Decision Making
At the start of the semester, the Birkman identified decision making efficiency as an area for
personal improvement. At a score of 92, I need plenty of time for complex decisions to avoid
indecision when pressured (Birkman, 2017). While careful thought has its advantages, I do not
respond well when time is of the essence. This was true across the board within my team, which had
needs scores ranging from 74 98 with an average of 90 (Birkman, 2017). Our knowledge of our
own needs helped us overcome the challenges it posed. Firstly, whenever possible, we would
bring up potential issues at a meeting, then disband to allow everyone time to reflect on their own
before coming back together to discuss. This alleviated the pressure of making a snap decision we
may later regret. Of course, there were situations where it was not practical to delay decisions. In
those instances, we acknowledged our own tendency towards indecision, but urged each other to
express our gut feelings, make the best decision possible give the constraints, and avoid
unnecessary worry after a consensus had been reached.

The Emotional And Personal Theme Of Abortion By Gwendolyn...
The Mother is a poem about abortion by Gwendolyn Brooks. This poem is an emotional and
personal topic about abortion. Abortion is a topic not many people feel comfortable discussing
about, since it is a sensitive subject that people make it out to be. Gwendolyn Brooks allows you to
understand the perspective of a mother who is choosing to abort one s child and her feelings after
doing so. Although many might consider abortiona cruel decision a mother can make, one never
knows the circumstances a mother may be in, that she chose abortion as an option. Analyzing this
poem can help women cope if they experienced an abortion, help with the options of many women
experiencing a pregnancy, and encourage young girls to always protect themselves if they choose
to be sexually active. Ultimately, this poem s message can help reduce and impact current
societal ills, such as, suicide rates, depression, high school dropouts, and teenage pregnancy.
Abortions will not let you forget. You remember the children you got that you did not get The
first stanza is describing her unborn children and how the children will never realize certain
experiences in life. The speaker is describing a mother unable to forget the the dramatic events of
aborting her child. Thus, her left feeling very emotionally vulnerable end experiencing grief and
anxiety. Many women may struggle with accepting the decision of abortion when experiencing
tough obstacles to be put in a predicament of abortion. Woman who are most sensitive may feel
depressed or suicidal after the procedure of an abortion. Ultimately, many women who have
experienced an abortion or several abortions can read this poem and relate to it. Although it is a
very sensitive subject, women coping can feel freely to talk about abortion to help release the
grief and anxiety they may feel. With more women sharing about the experience of abortion, they
are able to help reduce suicide rates and depression. Leading to less money being spent to treat
mental illness, and a greater investment can be made towards educating young women to use
contraceptives. Along with the poem helping women cope with past abortions, it can also help
women experiencing a pregnancy make a decision after reading

For hundreds of years the Republic of The Philippines has had a long and prosperous history. For
one to truly analyze the culture of the Philippines, one would have to look at the components of
what makes their culture. The Philippines has a rich and illustrious culture which involves
language, integration of Spanish and American influences, religion, cuisine, and a booming
economy. Although the Republic of the Philippines has only had nation status since 1946, the small

It is estimated that about 80 percent of Filipinos are Christian, most of which are Catholic, and
about 11 percent being Islamic, and the rest of the 9 percent practice another kind of religion
(Williams, 2015). The predominate religion in the Philippines is Roman Catholic due to the
occupation of the Spanish for roughly three decades. It is estimated that approximately 85 percent
of Filipinos who are Christians are Roman Catholic. (Balinski, 2015). This staggering static makes
the Philippines the only Christian nation in Asia (Balinski, 2015). Although the United States
established freedom of religion in the Philippines when it acquired it, many of the citizens chose to
continue to practice Catholicism. Many state holidays cater to the catholic belief, such as All Saints
Day, Christmas, Easter, etc. Despite the fact that many things revolve around the Roman Catholic
religion, many other groups of religions seem to blend into the culture and life in this Asian Pacific
Island nation.
The Republic of the Philippines has a blend of different languages. Starting of course with English
and Spanish being the official languages, due to the occupation by both America and Spain. Apart
from those two languages, there are approximately 175 different languages spoken in the
Philippines (Williams, 2015). Over one million people still use one of thirteen indigenous languages
spoken in the Philippines which are

Briggs and Stratton s latest addition to their product line. These engines are targeted to the premium
market for commercial lawn care. There is not much competition in this segment. Honda seems to
be the biggest competitor and does not have a large portion of this market. Briggs and Stratton are

  • 2. The Women Of Beauty Women across the globe face this pressure to live up to a certain standard of beauty. Women will dye their hair, wax their eyebrows, and some even spend thousands of dollars on plastic surgery, all in an attempt to fit society s perception of beauty. African American women and women of color in particular struggle to embrace their own unique beauty, especially when dealing with things such as skin complexion, hair, and Afrocentric facial features. People have grown up in a society that leads them to believe that beauty can be achieved if you have fair skin, straight hair, or having the ideal body Societies views on what is attractive, can persuade another person s views on attraction. Attraction is partially biological, but also social. Which is why it is important to have a vast selection of beautiful women to show case that not only Eurocentric features are attractive. African Americanwomen and other women of color need more representations of women that look like them in the media. We need more shows and movies, portraying images of womanof color as beautiful. . Out there in the world, is a young black/brown girl, who is idealizing Barbie s, celebrities, and characters that look nothing like her, causing her to feel unaccepted for her Afrocentric features. I am also concerned about the young girls growing up in this generation. It breaks my heart to see young beautiful girls that have been brainwashed with the mentality that being beautiful means being light skin and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Gender, Transgender, And Queer Essay As a nation, the United States often views itself as a champion of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) rights. While we are far ahead of many countries, quite a few of which still criminalize same sex relationships, we aren t the queer utopia we like to see ourselves as. Even today, there are many states within the US that do not have laws explicitly prohibiting discriminationbased on sexual orientationin the workplace or during the hiring process. According to the Human Rights Campaign s website, there are currently sixteen states that have no statewide employment laws protecting the rights of queer and/or trans individuals in the workplace. An even larger number of states have no laws protecting LGBTQ from housing discrimination. Since same sex marriage was legalized in June 2015, many people feel as though the fight for equal rights is over. However, what people tend to forget about, are the dozens of macro and microaggressions queer people still face in many cities, towns, and states throughout the country. Not only are LGBT people in the United States still subject to discrimination in educational institutions and in hiring practices, but these discriminatory acts are highly regionalized. In 2011, the Gay, Lesbian Straight Education Network (GLSEN) conducted the The National School Climate Survey, which aimed to report the prevalence of homophobic and transphobic language in schools across the country. Not surprisingly, the study reported that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Flat Hemorrhagic Smallpox Research Paper Maddie Kusch PAP Biology 6 February 9, 2016 Flat Hemorrhagic Smallpox Smallpox is caused by the virus variola, also known by its family name Poxviridae. It comes in four variola forms: ordinary, modified, flat, and hemorrhagic. The flat and hemorrhagic strains of smallpox are the most severe and usually result in death. Smallpox is a highly contagious disease in which a person could have it for twelve to fourteen days before symptoms first appear. Common symptoms include high fever, fatigue, headaches, exhaustion, and back and abdominal pain that can lead to vomiting. Soon after these first signs a rash will begin to appear starting on the face, then moving to the limbs, and finally the torso. The rash consists of many red spots. They turn into blisters and then later scab leaving scars. However, most flat hemorrhagic smallpox victims don t survive to see the scars left behind. The immune system of a person with hemorrhagic smallpox is severely weakened. This allows the virus to grow faster in the spleen and bone marrow causing flawed blood clotting and usually kills the victim by the fifth or sixth day of the rash. This deadly virus can be transmitted through air, saliva, and the sores on a victim. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Most vaccines contain a dead virus, but not the smallpox vaccine. It contains a live virus; therefore, it must be carefully handled because it can easily be transmitted. Once a person gets smallpox they become immune to it. A smallpox vaccine only lasts three to five years. Most people who get smallpox first experience lesions on their tongue and then it spreads around their face. Also, the Latin word pox means spotted , which refers to the red bumps on their bodies. Scientists worry about smallpox being used for bioterrorism and fear it will be altered into an even more deadly and contagious virus. Smallpox is still being tested and researched ... • 5. The Power Of Music In Whitney Houston s When You Believe Music has the unique power to influence the attitudes and actions of a person. Whether it is used as a source of hope and soulful reflection on past struggles, like in Whitney Houston s When You Believe, or to draw strength and determination to Olympians in Vangelis Chariots of Fire, music can provide spiritual, inspirational or hope filled meaning. In order to inspire and motivate year 12 students, the electrifying Chariots of Fire is clearly a superior choice compared to the spiritual and soulful When You Believe. This is evident through the analysis of timbre, dynamics and expression and pitch. Through the manipulation of the musical element timbre, it is clear that Chariots of Fire is the favoured selection to inspire and motivate seniors... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Chariots of Fire, the consistent ascending and descending movement in the melodic contour, heard at 0:34 0:50, represents the highs and lows of success, where it is common to get knocked down (seen in the descending phase) and bounce back (seen in the repeated ascension of the melody). This encourages students to be persistent to achieve success. When You Believe also has this wave like contour, highlighted at 1:50 2:05. Unlike Chariots of Fire, this movement gradually ascends during the climaxes of the piece, creating a sense of uplifting hope and celebration rather than inspiration and motivation required. When You Believe contains melismas and passing notes, evident at 1:00 1:20. Whilst this does provide diversity to the piece, the piece loses stability. Dissimilarly, Chariots of Fire does not include this manipulation. This lack of embellishment successfully grounds the piece, conveying a sense of drive and determination, motivating students to work hard. Furthermore, When You Believe has a wide range and register, heard at 2:12 2:25. The use of the high register adds a dream like and free quality to the piece, not suited to the grounding of senior students. Dissimilarly, Chariots of Fire has a medium range and middle register successfully grounding the piece, useful when attempting to motivate senior students. Additionally, the chord progressions throughout Chariots of Fire portray a sense of unity and strength, through the use of block chords. This has not been achieved in When You Believe, where the chords are broken into 3 quavers (evident in bars 2 5), producing a smoother and more subdued mood. The slow harmonic rhythm created by the Db sustained pedal portrays a sense of endurance and reliability, both linking to the physiognomies of the characters in the movie and the ... • 6. Marco Polo Comparison Since the beginning of civilization, many travelers left their homelands in order to explore new territories and cultures. Travelers such as Xuanzang, Marco Polo, and Ibn Battuta were all introduced to new ideas that were recorded. During the Post Classical period, travelers in the new world encountered shocking ideas that led them to engage in a wider world. Although travelers visited various parts of the world, similar outlooks on different cultures were made during the travels of Xuanzang, Marco Polo, and Ibn Battuta. One similarity between travelers in the new world is the observation of religions. In A Biography of the Tripitaka Master , Xuanzang experienced how Buddhism was practiced in India. Similarly, In The Travels of Marco Polo , ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One difference between travelers in the new world is the experience of world religions in different continents. In The Travels of Marco Polo , Marco Polo had only experienced Buddhism in China. In Ibn Battuta s Travels in Asia and Africa , Ibn Battuta s experience of Arab Islam showed him the differences between Islam in different parts of Africa, as well as in the Middle East and Africa. Another difference between travelers in the new world is the evaluation of economic features in different societies. In The Travels of Marco Polo , Marco Polo observes the trading aspects of Indian Ocean trade in Ganfu. This is important because it shows the effects that trade has in China. Unlike Marco Polo, Xuanzang in A Biography of the Tripitaka Master focuses on the religious aspects in Indian society. An additional difference between travelers in the new world is discovering prominent social aspects of societies. In Record of the Western Region , Xuanzang describes the social classes in the caste system, as well as the limitations of marriage for women in India . In The Travels of Marco Polo , Marco Polo describes the respect of citizens for married women, as well as their king. It has been recognized as the United Nations of Football , affiliated with 209 associations across the globe (FIFA, 2015). Like any other sport organization however, FIFA has long experienced allegations following the decision of Russia being awarded the 2018 World Cup and Quatar having the 2022 hosting rights. However, after almost four years of being awarded, reports of corruption, vote buying, and human rights abused has surfaced the news (Chi, 2014). The Telegraph reported that the former FIFA Vice President, Jack Warner, and his family were paid millions from a company controlled by a former Quatari football official in order to sway the vote on the 2022 World Cup. Supporting documents have showed that payments totaling $750,000 were made to Warner s sons, and additional $400,000 was paid to one of his employees (Claire et al, 2014). According to writer Samuel Chi from the Diplomat, he resigned from the organization in June 2011, but not before votes were cast in December 2010. Investigations from the FBI took effect immediately regarding the issue of Mr. Warner and his links to the Quatari bid. Russia was also subject to controversy of breaking FIFA rules. Allegedly, the Sunday Times reported that the president of Russia, Vladmir Putin, was a suspect of engaging in vote trading and vote buying to win the support of FIFA voters (Sunday Times, 2014). The allegations were contained within a database. Both Russia and Quatar have denied accusations, but US and Swiss authorities continue to investigate the organization s bidding process. She supports this claim by first creating a character that have gone through struggles in the past and using their beliefs as a reason to isolate another person. Then she created a character that had many sorrows and tragedies in their life and use the grief as a reason to abuse other people. Finally Morrison used a character to use their hardships of their past to justify the treatment of their children. Do we hear their pleas? Do we feel their pain, their agony? Every minute one of them dies of disease, violence, famine. Wiesel specifically utilities children as examples of victims of indifference as it is an easy way to induce the audience to gain sympathy for the victims who endure apathy, and ultimately will want to create change. Children are seen as helpless beings due to the fact that they depend a considerable amount on others. Due to this reality, children are usually more vulnerable to impassivity as they become much more impotent as they receive little or no aid in their fight against indifference. This method is used in many subject matters such as the United Nations Children s Fund (UNICEF) who provides humanitarian assistance to children in developing countries. The UNICEF puts out many commercials to help hungry children in developing countries; however, children aren t the only ones who are hungry. There are many adults and some elderly who face starvation as well, but using footage of starving children provokes more emotion from consumers in first world countries who are the ones who donate money and food to those children out of sympathy for them as children are universally known to be dependent on others and are seen as helpless beings. Wiesel utilizes the same strategy in his speech. He could use other examples of victims of apathy, but ultimately employs children as an examples for the purpose of inducing emotion out of his audience. Wiesel also inputs this emotional appeal at the end of his speech as a final attempt to bring awareness to his audience about the severity of insouciance to prompt them to create change. A lieis a statement made by one who does not believe it with the intention that someone else shall be led to believe it. Barbers and wise women rose to the occasion of helping the sick, although they did not have much medical knowledge. Medical knowledge was also lacked in professional doctors and physicians as their knowledge revolved around their religion, leaving the sick in the mercy of misconceptions. Immigration And The Immigration Act Of 1903 Introduction Immigration to the US has always been a complex phenomenon involving the development of different people from different nations, cultures, and has added to the United State s rich history. Immigration has brought both benefits and consequences to the United States in forms of economic stability and opportunity, mass settlements of foreign peoples, but also culture clash all resulting in the US attempt to curb immigration with the passing of several legislations. Many attempts to curb immigration were taken by US Congress with the passing of the Chinese Exclusion Act in 1882, and the Immigration Act of 1903; all used to insure specific laws and boundaries set on immigrants. Heavy resentment against immigrants in the US pushed Congress for limitations that brought many tensions against races like the Irish and Chinese. To capture the true essence of immigration and its responses by the State, one must make a critical effort in analyzing the historical patterns of migration to the New World, including the United States. It begins with colonial America when large populations of people, mainly English, French, German, and Spanish migrated to America with a deliberate intent to exploit the people, land, and resulting in the creation of caste system of subjugation. The Application Of Pedagogical Principles Analyse the application of pedagogical principles in own area of specialism Pedagogy is a word that is used to describe the art and science of teaching. Pedagogical roles are the many and varied that a teacher may perform while teaching, such as structuring, soliciting, responding and reacting. Other roles involve assessing, criticising, discussing, encouraging, enquiring, evaluating, explain, giving individual instruction, lecturing, organising, presenting, questioning and answering, repeating and reviewing and team teaching and tutoring etc. (L.Walklin 2000; pg 175) In my own specialist area (Maths) I used pedagogic technologies like Power points for delivering the sessions, and for messages I would use E mail, SMS and Twitter. For assignments I would prefer my students to use Digital library, E books, Websites and Newsfeeds. Sometimes I give tasks like Statistical analysis, Data analysis, Spreadsheet, and Search engine to my learners to do independent work on computers. I also do Computer based assessment tools e.g. multiple choice questions and quizzes. I also involve my students to design their own Maths posters on specific topics using computer design tools e.g. Presentation tools and Multimedia presentation. 1.2)Evaluate the effectiveness of use of creative and innovative approaches in own area of specialism To make a purposeful, inclusive learning and teaching environment in my sessions I use a variety of creative and innovative approaches, for example I would ... In her first meeting with Stanley it becomes quite clear that Stanley and Blanche are antagonist and protagonist. The poem Song of a Citizen is an illuminating reflection on the abominable conditions of the Jewish people and the suffering they have endured wrapped into a piece on how a prisoner is separated from the natural world, connected by Milosz s incredible writing ability. The poem Song of a Citizen is an open book that allows the reader a deep view into the inner character of its speaker. Firstly, we see many of the speaker s views reflected in the poem s numerous verses. For example, in verse 9, he says that it is better to be a live dog than a dead lion , which shows how he has felt and acted in this perilous situation. This could even be taken so far as to say that, because of the horrors he faced during the war, the speaker feels that it is better to be living than even to die a courageous death. Additionally, another revealing verse was from 20 25, which symbolized his continuing relationship with the world. He mentions a copper leaved garden , which can be seen as a parallel to fall or winter trees, as well as a heart of metal , which could describe the heart of manufacturing combined with nature. This shows the speaker s character as we see how he connects nature to freedom and beauty, running a parallel to countless prisoners and captives(including the Jews) who were separated from nature ... Federal agencies failed to respond to multiple attempts by both private and public institutions to warn of the possibility of a large scale disaster spurred by a land falling hurricane. An independent study financed by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and completed more than a year before Katrina, found that New Orleans was the U.S. city most susceptible to hurricane damage. FEMA elected to take no further action than to circulate the results of the report to the organization. Some think this may have been worsened by the decision to place FEMA under Department of Homeland Security, which decreased funding and restricted natural disaster response resources. The federal government also failed the gulf region in the policy decisions made concerning the management of natural resources in the area and the effect on its physical geography. One of these programs was called the Mississippi River Gulf Outlet or MRGO. The purpose of this project was to provide an economic boost to the region by increasing river traffic, and also aid in the recurring flood water issues in the Mississippi Delta Region. It is theorized that the witchcraft hysteria was in response to women s growing role in society. During the 16th century, single, unmarried and independent women represented a societal shift that a large portion of the population was uncomfortable with. The result was genocide and what some have called a holocaust. Society, including women, rejected the notion of unmarried women living alone, without a husband or family, or women who did not go to church and abide by prevailing social norms.

In the 17th century, the presence of witches reached incredible attention with accusations and executions of people accused of witchcraft. The fear caused by these trials and executions spurred many people to become the accuser rather than become the accused. These boys have stayed together for the comfort and feeling of safety that being together brings them, and I think you should not take him away from his only family, Mrs. Mathews told the jury and I. My son goes over to their house everyday, him and the rest of their friends, without Pony there, the house would be a puzzle with a piece missing. With what I have heard so far, Pony seems to be an important part of these kids lives. Mrs. Mathews you may leave the stand. BANG BANG, I am calling for a recess, I ll be in my office if anyone needs me. I walked in the room full of certificates and sat down, wondering how this was going to turn out. I have talked to a therapist over many cases like these and the one thing she always says is, By moving a child away from his or her home, you are moving away a piece of his or her childhood. I acknowledge that it is unfair to make absolute demands without a full understanding of the forces in others lives. Thankfully, my group reacted to my empathy with reciprocity, and together we created a warm, accommodating environment that enabled our success. Overcoming Weaknesses: Decision Making At the start of the semester, the Birkman identified decision making efficiency as an area for personal improvement. At a score of 92, I need plenty of time for complex decisions to avoid indecision when pressured (Birkman, 2017). While careful thought has its advantages, I do not respond well when time is of the essence. This was true across the board within my team, which had needs scores ranging from 74 98 with an average of 90 (Birkman, 2017). Our knowledge of our own needs helped us overcome the challenges it posed. Firstly, whenever possible, we would bring up potential issues at a meeting, then disband to allow everyone time to reflect on their own before coming back together to discuss. This alleviated the pressure of making a snap decision we may later regret. Of course, there were situations where it was not practical to delay decisions. In those instances, we acknowledged our own tendency towards indecision, but urged each other to express our gut feelings, make the best decision possible give the constraints, and avoid unnecessary worry after a consensus had been reached. Although the United States established freedom of religion in the Philippines when it acquired it, many of the citizens chose to continue to practice Catholicism. Many state holidays cater to the catholic belief, such as All Saints Day, Christmas, Easter, etc. Despite the fact that many things revolve around the Roman Catholic religion, many other groups of religions seem to blend into the culture and life in this Asian Pacific Island nation.
