The Pros And Cons Of Counterfeiting
If you have ever traveled to another country, you have probably seen vendors on the sidewalks or
streets, selling designer brand goods at a really cheap price. You may have even purchased
something from them. The fashion industry is a 1.2 trillion dollar global industry and employs 1.9
million people in the United States alone (Maloney, 2015). There is one market that is proving to
be detrimental to this powerhouse industry. The black market of fashion, which produces counterfeit
goods that are being sold at a fraction of the price of the originals.
Whatever the reason a consumer has for purchasing a counterfeit product, that sale will still
influence the global economy. Counterfeiting leads to huge losses for not only the industry, but
also a loss of tax revenue for governments. It is estimated that counterfeiting consists of 5% to 7%
of world trade and produces profits of over 650 billion dollars annually ( Challenges of Selling ,
2008). Not only does counterfeiting steal profits from legitimate retailers, but it also causes loss of
jobs, other, more violent crimes, supports child labor, and puts consumers health at risk (Bell,
2016). Since most illegal counterfeiting operations are run by organized crime rings, no taxes are
paid, and the profits from selling these goods are often used to support other crimes such as drug
and human trafficking, money laundering and even terrorism. Counterfeit sales in the United States
have been directly related to the killing

Essay on Personality Analysis
Abstract The purpose of this paper is to discuss characteristics of my personality. The main focus
of this paper will be how my personality has developed over time. As I age and encounter new
and different experiences, my personality has adapted and developed further. This paper will give
an in depth exploration into the people and events that have influenced my personality. Personality
is defined as a) the sum total of the physical, mental, emotional, and social characteristics of an
individual. b) the organized pattern of behavioral characteristics of the individual (Dictionary.com,
2010). Whether we realize it or not, personality defines us as people. There are many facets to my

I had to step out of my comfort zone and do what needed to be done in order to reach my goals.
On the graduate level, I find that it is easier to be an introvert and participate. Once the human
element is taken away, I can find myself being open. I do not see my classmates face to face so I
can allow myself to say things that I ordinarily would not do or say. As I have gotten older, some
of the introversion has faded to a certain extent, but it is still present. Through my job as a
Special Education Teacher, I have had to overcome a majority of my introversion so I can
effectively do my job. On any given day, I will have to speak to not only my students but also
the office staff, coworkers, and possibly some of the children s parents. Conversation goes both
ways, so to be successful at my job; I would have to be willing to be open and communicate with
others more. I also have to realize that I need to make the first step sometimes. Not everyone is
going to come to me; there are times I am going to have to go to others. Another characteristic of
my personality is care. Despite my ever present introversion, I have always harbored a deep care
for most people. Early in my childhood, my parents taught the importance of caring for others.
Throughout my life, I have always put others before myself. Sometimes I do this out of genuine
care for the other party, but other times, I find myself doing this so the other

Argumentative Essay On Organic Food
Organic Foods
The topic of being healthy is currently trending in our world right now. Everyone wants to follow
the idea and live some form of a healthy lifestyle. Along being healthy, there is the demand of
eating healthy; which is not always easy. There are so many types of food to consider, that it is
almost overwhelming to search for healthy options. These options can range from yogurt to granola
or even the type of carrots we choose, especially when there are different forms of farming methods
for our vegetables. These methods of farming include conventional farming or organic farming. The
difference? Simple, one requires the use of harmful fertilizers and pesticides; the other does not.
Therefore, when it comes to deciding on the right vegetables for your health, organically grown
food is your best option, here s why.
First of all, the counter argument needs to be addressed. Many argue that there is not a significant
difference between organic and conventional foods. Disagreements often sound like, There is very
little scientific evidence to support any health benefits for organic products (Andrei). Opponents of
organic food have argued that it is too expensive and not at all worth the high price. They state that
Organic has become a synonym for luxury (Andrei). Many are choosing to eat organic simply
because they can afford it. Although organic food is supposedly healthier, A 2009 meta
analysis...said there was no nutrient difference in organic versus conventional

Small Group Communication Reflective Study
Studying communications this semester I learned it is more than public speaking, but is focused on
how to effectively share opinions or information to broaden ones perspective. In my
communications class we focused on listening skills, interpersonal communications, and small
group communication. Listening skills were developed when we did speech critiques on our group
members. In addition, we listened to other speeches or Netflix shows to analyze communication
methods. In class, we examined what makes up interpersonal communications including nonverbal
skills, verbal skills, and development of ideas using evidence. In addition, we worked on own skills
by writingand delivering 3 speeches on a topic of our choice that we are passionate about. This
helped me define how I communicate my own opinions to others. Small group communication was
matured when we worked on a group speech on how to improve articulation skills. I had to work

this speech improved and I was able to convey my key points in a way that connected to my
audience. It was noted by both my professor and fellow classmates that I made my speech more
personal which connected to my audience better. My delivery improved because I had better
verbal skills with clear articulation and used an energetic tone. I still had issues with over reliance
on my speech aid and lacking body movement. I had okay eye contact which negatively affected

Challenges Faced By Immigrants Moving Away From Home
Immigrants move away from their home to have a better future for their self and family.
However, they have many challenges as they adapt to their new living conditions. learning a
new language is very challenging for adults and some people make fun of their accents. They
have to learn everything they knew all over in a new language. Just like Mammie, the clerk was
having a hard time understanding what she was trying to say. They also have to learn about the
laws of that land because the stuff they use to do in their homeland could be wrong in their new
land. For example, if you hit your child hard enough to leave a mark its called child abuse.
Besides that, they have to learn how to drive and register for school. The child also gets to learn

Background of emotional intelligence:
Emotional intelligence was described formally by (Salovey Mayer). They defined it as the ability
to monitor one s own and others feelings and emotions, to discriminate among them and to use this
information to guide one s thinking and actions . They also provided an initial empirical
demonstration of how an aspect of emotional intelligence could be measured as a mental ability
(Mayer, DiPaolo, Salovey, 1990). In both articles, emotional intelligence was presented as a way to
conceptualize the relation between cognition and affect. Historically, emotionand intelligence were

Same Sex Marriage Should Be Legalized . The Same Sex Marriage
Same sex marriage should be legalized
The same sex marriage has been widely debated in many countries for a long time. It is
an important issue because it concerns basic moral and human rights. People all over the world
come to the United States in search of freedom and equality. Being able to marry anyone, no
matter the gender, is a freedom of right, but if that freedom of right is taken away from people
than there is no equality. Homosexual people in the United States are people that deserve
freedom and equality and taking away their right to marriage is taking away their equality with
the rest of Americans. Even though certain religions are against same sex marriage, same sex ...

Writing for the majority, Justice
Anthony Kennedy states that no union is more profound than marriage, for it embodies the
highest ideals of love, fidelity, devotion, sacrifice, and family. Kennedy goes on to say that gay
and lesbian couples ask for equal dignity in the eyes of the law. The Constitution grants them
that right. ( Nasci1). I think this amendment protects the rights of homosexuals. Same sex
marriage should be legal because all individuals have the same right in society; same sex couples
can constitute a good based family. It is just a way to make official a common union nowadays,
even there are religious issue; because it is not related to polygamy; and because love matters
and it does not differ in nature according to the sex of its object or the person who experiences it.
Prior to the U.S. Supreme Court ruling, same sex marriage is only legal in some states.
Some states do not agree with same sex marriage. Same sex marriage was legal in 36 states and
the District of Columbia. In 19 of those states. (Nascri). I think same sex marriage should be
legal. The state should not say anything about agreeing to an adult s way of life. If two people
love each other and want to get married, regardless of their partner s color, religion, nationality or
gender, they should be allowed to do so love and marriage should be purely a personal choice.

The Movie The Box
The Game
The box itself paints itself as the front of a horror book from the 80s or 90s, with a low angle
shot of an old house that is backlit by creepy green fog, and a full moon peers through the clouds.
This game is meant to be horror, and the players are supposed to know exactly that going in.
Like a group of dumb kids who go into the abandoned house on their street, when setting up, each
player finds themselves playing the role of one of 12 different people standing inside of the
foyer a decrepit old mansion (presumably on a hill). The players then have the task of exploring
said creepy mansion, uncovering tiles and finding items or events that happen in each of the
rooms. The characters gain and lose some of their stats based on these events and items, allowing
them to either become more powerful than they were initially upon entering the house, or it may
end up killing their character if any of the stats reach zero. The other possible things a player might
find when looking around the house are omens. These are like events, but the player has make a
haunt roll that gets harder for each omen that gets uncovered. If the player fails the haunt roll, the
second phase of the game begins.
The second phase incorporates the betrayal part of the name. The rules of the game select one of
the players to be the traitor, based on what omen was drawn, and where. The player that was
selected by the game goes off and reads their own version the the rules, while the rest

Essay on The Young Offenders Act
The Young Offenders Act
The federal government of Canada fifteen years ago, in 1984, the Liberal party changed the
Juvenile Delinquents Acts to the Youth Offenders Act to have a More human approach to the
rights of young people before the law (Leschild and Jaffe, 8:1991). In the present such as Premier,
Mike Harris, of Ontario wants the federal government of Canada to scrap the Young Offenders Act
.
In 1999, the same party that came up with the act is making majors changes to the act. This report
will look at the young offenders act at the present time, look at why kids commit crime, what is
being done to improve the act, what has the province done towards teenagers and also a look at the
United Sates youth system.

abuse and/or physical abuse. Kaye goes on to say that Even through parents have been loving
attentive, children will choose a life of prostitution, drugs, and violence (Kayne, 50,late 80,s).
Toronto defence counsel Bill Trudell said it best when he said We don t we just recognise in this
country we have kids who don t ask to be brought into this world, who have all kinds of pressures
we don t even imagine and who aren t Martians, they re kids? Allmand who is one of the most left

188,958 and by the year 1989 it had jumped to 225, 766 so an increase of 36,808 in just 4 years. A
big suprise was in the rise in numbers of the Drug offence. In 1985, it was at 4,290 and in 1986 it
jumped up to 4,767, but by the year 1989 it was at 4,253. In that 5 year period it decreased by 43
but at least it is a start in one area (Ruffo, 4,1994). But it is not really young people committing the

Religion In The Middle Ages
The Middle Ages is the time between the fall of the Roman Empire to the rise of the Renaissance.
As the government of Rome disappeared with the fall of the Roman Empire, people were living
dangerous, hopeless lives. Religion became an important influence in the Middle Ages not just in
Rome, but for other countries in Medieval Europewho sought comfort in this religion. One of the
most influential and rising religion during the Middle Ageswas Christianity. The Rise and Spread of
Christianity in the Middle Ages can be characterized by the fall of the Roman Empire, efforts by
Pope Gregory the Great, and activities of the church.

Monks were members of monasteries who were isolated from the world having to give up
money, property, and personal clothing. Monasteries attracted brighter minds with special skills
that were needed by society thus, making isolation impossible. For example, monks provided
health care; managing hospitals and orphanages in Europe. They also played government roles
since they made up most of the population who could read or write during the Middle Ages.
Monasteries served as one of the most reliable places for education. Many parents during the
Middle Ages sent their children to church for education. Following the fall of the Roman Empire,
those who could read or write were taught in monasteries whose monks were teachers. The
monistic schools also provided most of the religious teachings that were available to people of the
Middle Ages. Not only did monasteries provide education and religious teachings, they also
promoted values that became crucial to medieval civilization. Values such as self discipline, self
denial, social responsibility, and charity were being taught at monasteries. Since monasteries
provided a place of refuge, medical care, and education, the monks have had a great influence on
converting many citizens to Christianity (Corrick

How Does Ishmael Change Throughout The Novel
Call me Ishmael (p. 1) is the opening words of Herman Melville s novel. He introduces the main
character and give the readers a sense of his personality. Ishmael tells a story of his whaling
voyage upon the Pequod and of his adventures along the way. Ishmael s character changes from
the beginning of the novel to the end due to his experiences and the challenges that is faced
with. A few conflicts appear, however, he learns how to handle them and to become
independent. Herman Melville s Moby Dick is more than facts about a whale; he tells a story
about a Ishmael s whaling voyage. Ishmael s voyage changes who he is and it will leave him
with memories that he will never forget. At the beginning of the novel, Herman Melville gives an
abundance of detail on Ishmael s character. He writes, having little or no money in my purse, and
nothing particular to interest me on shore, I thought I would sail about a little and see the watery

The Convergence of Port Security Technologies Worldwide
Title: Convergence of Port Security Technologies Worldwide Introduction The importance of
maritime and port security cannot be overemphasized. This is due to the fact that close to 90%
of global trade happens by sea (Canadian Master Mariners Conference,2011) coupled with the
threats posed by terrorism and organized crime on national and international security
(Frittelli,2005). Technology has over the years been employed in the management of risks
associated with port security. In this paper, we describe the convergence of port security
technologies in domestic and foreign ports around the world and how these technologies work
together from departure to arrival of these ships from one port to the next and ensure the safety
and security of port authorities, civilian populace, and the many entities working within these
ports. The need for tighter security at domestic and foreign ports Ituh (2010) noted that following
the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack on U.S soil, the recognition of the risk that radiological
and nuclear devices could easily be smuggled inside inbound cargo containers led the US
members of Congress to pass laws that required the US customs Service to perform closed
inspections of all the incoming container at all the U.S seaports. This then led to the creation of
Security and Accountability for Every Port (SAFE) Act which was signed by George Bush. This is
the act that authorized the design and development of very high technology inspection

Pros And Cons Of Conformity
John F. Kennedy once said, Conformity is the jailer of freedom and the enemy of growth. There are
countless opinions, studies, and surveys such as these, which contribute a negative gist towards
conformity. Most individuals concentrate on how conformity damages, and destructs; and very
rarely focus on the constructive and favorable aspects of conformism. No one stops to understand
why people conform in the first place. Conformitybenefits society in several ways and contradictory
to most beliefs, not everybody conforms.
Conformity is a vital part of developing a collective identity. While some might debate that
conformity restricts a lot of social liberty within individuals; the other perspective views conformity

Reflection On Student Learning
Written Reflection #2
As a teacher, our responsibility is to plan effective lessons for our students to learn from. Although,
the hardest part of being a teacher is grasping the student s motivation to learn. Therefore, the
educational philosophers Borich and Wong have different approaches to make us effective teachers
motivate our students to learn new and exciting teachings. These different methods may include a
wide range of how teachers run their classrooms, or what specific standards are being targeted, and
maybe even how effective their planning techniques are. Not to mention, students may also expect
positive expectations from the teacher and ways to help them succeed. On the other note, inviting
students to learn may be easier than thought, in which may result in positive student behavior. Thus,
my opinion of what Borich and Wong have to say about student learningis very beneficial to me so,
that one day I may use their techniques in my very own classroom.
In chapter 4, in the Borich text book he clarifies the different ways to manage a classroom through
three different systems called humanist tradition, applied behavior analysis, and classroom
management tradition. A subdivision topic under the humanist tradition mentions cooperative
learning has proven statistics to gain student learning rather than whole group instruction. Borich
clearly states that students tend to be bored , frustrated , and disruptive when being taught in whole
group instruction (Borich

Television Genre And Style Of Mockumentaries Essay
Within the realm of television today, many of the more popular comedies have a very specific
style of production and way of capturing scenes. This style is often referred to as the
Mockumentary style and can be seen within examples like The Office and Park and Recreation.
The popularity of these shows alone have inspired many other different spin offs and takes on this
specific style of comedy, but these shows shouldn t be credited as the founders of the
mockumentary style. In fact, for televisionshows the mockumentary s history goes farther back by
a couple of decades. This paper will attempt to discover the answers to three main questions
regarding the television genre and style of mockumentaries. Firstly, the definition of a
mockumentary and a general understanding of the stylistic similarities must be examined before
the history of the mockumentary is to be explored. Next, the historical background will be
considered as well as the cultural significance and impact of the shows that emulated this
mockumentary style. Lastly, the paper will look to the current cultural contexts and the social
impacts of the popular, modern day televisions shows that incorporate these styles. Through the
analysis of the mockumentary style in the combination of the historical lens and the definitional
lens, modern day shows that utilize this subgenre will be better understood as well as their impacts
on society itself.
According to Oxford Dictionary, a mockumentary can simply be

Characterism And Symbolism In Henry James s Washington Square
Henry James novel, Washington Square, tells the story of Catherine Sloper, a shy and extremely
modest woman who falls in love with a handsome and charming man, Morris Townsend, after
meeting him at the occasional party given by the aunt Mrs. Almond. Catherine, who is viewed by
everyone as a woman with a plain look and little personality, but a great dowry, becomes an easy
target for Morris, a man with the shadowy background. Unfortunately, for Catherine, her father, Dr.
Sloper also considers her neither clever nor beautiful and believes that Morris is only interested in
his daughter for her money. It is also evident throughout the novelthat Morris desires Catherine s
money and is not interested in her as a woman. When Catherine s father does not change his mind
towards the couple s marriageand Morris is convinced by Mrs. Penniman that he will never get a
penny from Dr. Sloper, he disappears within days after telling Catherine he wants to travel to New
Orleans for a business. After Morris abandons Catherine, she becomes more confident in herself,
discovers her inner strength, and gains control over her life.
In the beginning, James describes Catherine as not clever, stalwart, and extremely modest woman
with no trace of her mother s beauty. She was not ugly; she had simply plain, dull, gentle
countenance (James 8). James portrays Catherine as a woman who is willing to sacrifice her own

A Comaprison of the Miller s Tale and Merchant s Tale
Comparing Miller s Tale and Merchant s Tale
Alison in the Miller s Tale and May of the Merchant s Tale are similar in several ways. Both are
young women who have married men much older than themselves. They both become involved
with young, manipulative men. They also conspire to and do cuckold their husbands. This is not
what marriage is about and it is demonstrated in both tales. What makes the Miller s Tale bawdy
comedy and the Merchant s tale bitter satire is in the characterization. In the Miller s tale we are
giving stereotyped characters. The principals are cardboard cut outs sent into farcical motion. The
Merchant s Tale gives us much more background and detail of the character s lives. The reader is

1851 53). This quote follows distasteful descriptions of January who eagerly awaits May in bed.
The reader is privy to none of this with Alison.
It does not take much persuasion on Nicholas part to talk Alison into having an affair with her. The
idea of tricking her husband is a game for her. With impish delight she conspires with Nicholas the
outlandish plot of convincing her husband that a great flood is coming. With her husband safety
ensconced in a bathtub hanging from the roof, Alison plays with Nicholas. And it is play for then
we have the quot;kissing quot; scene with Absalom. Alison is having fun with the whole situation,
it is just a great time for her.
May does not love Damien any more than she loves January. He is just a better, convenient
alternative. We know she cares not for Damien as when she receives a love letter from him she
easily disposes it in the privy. It is easy to see that her motivation for adultery is really one of
revenge and not out of affection for Damien. January assaulted her by the mere fact of marrying
her. This is satire on the whole theme of courtly love. This feeling of revenge on her part is further
demonstrated in the cuckold scene.
May deceives January quite wickedly in the garden. Yet for the reader we can not fault her for it.
January has that garden for the purpose of licentious behavior. It is there so he can have May
sexually in the way he wants her. She

Genetically Modified Organisms
Transgenic species are produce by genetic engineering. Genetic engineering involves the process
of taking samples of one species genes/DNA and transferring it into a new host cell, this cell
containing the DNA will then grow into the new cell creating a transgenic species. DNA
samples can also be inserted into the new species by acting as a virus or by using a micro pipette
injection. Transgenic species are mainly used in fruit and vegetables to prevent pests eating the
food supply. Genetic engineering is also used for commercial purposes. One example of successful
transgenic species is a strawberry plant with a salmon geneinserted into it, the salmon gene helps
the strawberries grow in a colder environment. These crops are also known as GMO s (genetically
modified organisms).
Analyse information from secondary sources to identify examples of the use of transgenic species
and use available evidence to debate the ethical issues arising from the development and use of
transgenic species.

What Is The Setting Of The Bluest Eye
In the novel, The Bluest Eye, we learn about the lives of black, middle school aged girls. The
novel takes place in 1941, during a time where racial and prejudice situations are prevalent in the
lives of African Americans. The children experience a childhood full of racialism, great pain, and
subordination,
The children who we come to learn so much about are two sisters, Claudia and Frieda, Pecola,
who is their foster sister now. Claudia gives a brief look into the setting of the story in
describing her home as well. Our house is old, cold, and green . She explains where she lives
and how cold the house is and how it looks. She introduces us to, Mr. Henry a friend of the
family that comes to visit them occasionally. The children sit and hear grown folks talking in the
kitchen. They hear how the grown folks talk about each other bad, there is not much good to
usually say. Well, somebody asked him why he left a nice good churchwoman like Della for that
heifer (13). This shows how African Americans are negative about each other and rarely have any
nice encouraging words to say about one another.
Pecola is now in the home due a fire at home by Cholly Breedlove, her father. She has been on a
long journey of great pain and confused about what kind of identity she wants to have. She is now

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, A Moral Law
Plato once said, Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the
imagination, and charm and gaiety to life and to everything. Like his words elucidate, music, for
many centuries, was a way of expressing things that could not be put into words. It displayed raw
emotion in some cases and gave life to ideas and notions in other cases. Throughout history, various
figures and composers contributed to music worldwide. However, there is one that stands out the
most. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, a child prodigy and composer at the age of six, who played and
composed so effortlessly, would change music styles and influence many great composers that
would come years afterwards. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, in full Johann Chrysostom Wolfgang
Amadeus Mozart, was born on January 27, 1756 in Salzburg, Austria. He was the son of
Leopold and Maria Pertle Mozart and younger brother to Maria Anna, also known as Nannerl.
His mother was born to a middle class family and his father was a successful composer, violinist,
and assistant concertmaster in the court of the Archbishop of Salzburg. Leopold introduced Mozart
and Nannerl to music at an early age and tutored them both. At the age of three, as the young
Mozart watched and mimicked Nannerl s lessons from their father, he began to show a deep
understanding of chords, tonality, and tempo. With lessons like his sister, he mastered his father s
techniques so quickly that at the age of four, he could learn a piece

Comparing Pride In Othello And Oedipus The King
Tragedies that befall a true hero in a play sometimes are caused by that person s pride. Oedipus
and Othello show readers the true character of being a tragic hero and show how pride can lead to
devastating consequences. Pride s effect on individuals can be subtle from the start, and more often
than not will manifest itself fully when that person realizes, from their actions, the consequences of
being prideful. Sophoclesand Shakespeare both write about prideful men in their plays Oedipus
Rex and The Tragedyof Othello. The prideful actions each man takes, which they believe to be
noble, causes their lives and the lives of the people around them to be ruined by tragedy. From
these tragic tales, we can compare the way each man rose to power,... Show more content on

Othello also goes through change; from a man who constantly is aware of how reputation
dictates a man position in society to a man full of shame from losing said reputation because of
the terrible actions he takes in a fit of rage. Othello s change was mainly due to him listening to
the lies Iago told about Desdemona and Cassio. Othello had no idea that, his so called friend and
compatriot, was a villainous person capable of lying to him. He believed Iago so much that he
lost all self control and committed a horrible act. Unlike Oedipus, Othello could have chosen his
own fate. He was not bound by any gods will and could have inquired more about the so called
truths Iago was telling him about his wife, but by listening to Iago, and like Oedipus, he also
loses those things most important to him. First, he loses his love Desdemona by suffocating her.
Even though he was her killer, they both shared a love that she wanted to save; and from her
deathbed, she forgave him by lying about who was her killer. When asked by Emilia, O, who hath
done this deed (1535), Desdemona replies, Nobody I myself (1535). The second loss to Othello,
like Oedipus, was his reputation and position in society. Since the truth about Desdemona s death
was known, Othello was stripped

working?
There are two main overall objectives of Harrah s Database marketing (DBM) programs. First,
Harrah s strived to build, increase and retain customers loyalty to their brand, similar to the way
people tend to be loyal to their mechanic or hair dresser. The strategy to achieve this goal was to
ensure that they crafted and sustained a relationship with their customers and reinforced the
emotional tie with personalized attention and fast service. The second objective piggy backs on the
first that customer loyalty will yield incremental business and increase company revenue. ... Show

2. Why is it important to use the customer worth in the DBM efforts rather than the observed level
of play?
The case study article defines customer worth as the theoretical amount the house expects to
win, over the long term, from a customer based on his level of play. This calculation allows
Harrah s management to more strategically analyze and predict a customer s future spending as
opposed to analysis of observed level of play which is only based on a customer s previous
spending patterns. The example contained in this article of Ms. Maranees best exemplifies the
benefits of calculating customer worth as opposed to an observed level of play. Ms. Maranees
only played a limited amount in a short timeframe at Harrah s, so if one were to solely judge her
future habits by her observed level of play during that trip, they likely would not feel that she was
a customer worth targeting. However, in analysis of her customer worth and theoretical wins, it
was evident that Ms. Maranees was likely a very profitable customer who was probably bringing
a majority of her business to Harrah s competition, so it would in fact be advantageous for Harrah s
to win her business.
3. How does Harrah s integrate the various elements of its marketing strategy to deliver more than
the results of Database Marketing?
When Gary Loveman was hired as Harrah s COO, one of his goals was to change the focus from
bringing customers in to individual Harrah s locations

Ways to Involve Parents Essay
Ways to Involve Parents
Parents may think volunteering to help in the classroom is the only way to be involved, well they
are wrong. There are many ways parents can involve themselves in the school. Parents and family
can be involved by reading to their children, checking homework, communicating with the teacher,
and attending school functions; the list goes on and on. (NEA, 2003). No matter how parents
contribute time towards their child s education, it will be important. Parental involvement is
important because it makes a difference in children s lives. (NEA, 2003). This difference includes
student achievement and success.

(Dimmock O Donoghue, 1996). Research indicates that parents who are involved in their child s
academic life have a profound effect on the child s ability to learn and help instill in them an
appreciation for learning that can last a lifetime (Pape, 1999, p. 2). The National Education
Association President, Bob Chase says, Family involvement in a child s academic life is critical.
A balance must be struck between family, school, and community that allows a child to flourish,
both in academics and as a person (Pape, 1999, p. 3).
How Parental Involvement Improves Student Achievement in Life
Parental involvement helps students improve in life as well. When parents get involved with their
children, the children s self esteem rises and they focus more on life. This is because the students
feel like they are loved when their parents participate.
Boosting the self esteem of students can lead to a reduced number of runaways and suicides among
older students. The main reason children runaway from home and commit suicide is because they
feel left out or overwhelmed with life. Parental involvement can make these students feel like they
belong and are wanted in their environment. The involvement of parents and family can also help
students grow as people. They mature faster and act

The Day Of My Grandfather
From the moment we are born, we begin to die. This is a piece of information we all learn in life
but for some, we learn this lesson too soon. When I was 12 years old, I learned that my
grandfather was very sick with a threatening illness that would snatch the air from his lungs. My
grandfather had Stage IV lung cancer. Over the course of the Summer of 2006, I watched the
once statuesque man that was my grandfather grow frail and disappear before my eyes. If I was
not in his home, we were at the hospital or doctor s office running test after test. Each time a

he was admitted and later seen by his oncologist who told him that he did not have much time left.
I started to understand what was happening and had a nurse hold my hand while I cried in the

in the water (Academic 2015). Results from BOD can be usually found after 5 days. However,
some times in order to get a complete biochemical Oxygen, BOD must be measured for 20 to 25
days (Pisarevsky 2005). Chemical Oxygen Demand COD measures all organic carbon in a water
sample by oxidizing organic matter with strong chemicals. COD is a chemically/thermal oxidation
reaction. COD includes both biodegradable components and non biodegradable components

Classical Vs. Modern Music
Classical vs. Modern Music
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born on January 27, 1756, in Salzburg, Austria. He was born to
an overbearing and ambitious father, Leopold, who was more than anxious to exploit his son s
extraordinary musical gifts. Mozart began composing at an early age, and he began touring around
the same time. Throughout his life, Mozart made many enemies, many his own fault, through his
naive arrogance and harsh critique of his musical contemporaries. He worked feverishly,
composing symphonies and operas, as well as touring constantly. Mozart died of overwork and
kidney failure on the 5th of December 1791 while still ironically at work on the Requiem Mass for
an unknown patron. Though he lived for a relatively short time, ... Show more content on

Emmanuel Krivine conducted the performance, with featured soloists Joshua Bell (Vieuxtemps
violin concerto) and Stewart Goodyear (Mozart piano concerto). A full orchestra performed the
symphonies.
Overall, the Mostly Mozart Festival was a tremendously enjoyable experience. The qualities that
define the works of Mozart are often the same as those that are used to describe those of the
classical period of music, from his smooth melodies and flowing rhythm, to his pleasing use of
dynamics to create an atmosphere of complete satisfaction. One of the most defining principles of
the style of Mozart is the connection to nature and God, and the seeming oneness and harmony that
can be achieved simply by listening while the melodies take you to a higher plane of thought.
The most enjoyable piece from the performance was Allegro, from Mozart s Concerto in Dm. There
are simply not enough words in the English vocabulary to describe how eloquently crafted and
rhythmically shaped this piece is. One of the most outstanding elements of this piece is the
harmony created between the piano and the strings as they accompany each other with seeming
flawlessness. The resulting experience is exhilarating to say the least. Accentuating the piece even
more was the performance by the virtuoso pianist, Stewart Goodyear. Although still in his early
twenties, this musical

The Major Tenets Of CumminsModel Of Second Language...
In the book Why Tesol?, it states that the major tenets of Cummins model of second language
acquisition is the framework that focuses on the distinction between social language and academic
language. Cummins suggests that academic language takes longer to acquire and social language is
easier because it is in the here and now . Cummins Quadrant Model consists of 4 quadrants:
Quadrant 1 Social language; Quadrant 2 Target language; Quadrant 3 Target language; Quadrant 4
Academic language. (p. 152). Although, there are many models of second language acquisition, I
felt that Cummin s model was a great representative of where Carlos second languageacquisition
has fallen behind. When beginning remediation with Carlos my first priority is to provide him with
a solid foundation of academic vocabulary that will assist him throughout his learningexperience.
This process is beneficial when teaching content area. In order for Carlos to succeed in the
classroom he will need to become familiar and be able to comprehend the content area. Before
beginning each lesson I would have Carlos share his knowledge of the vocabulary words and
academic language that is beneficial to the lesson. This will provide insight to see which areas I
need to review and which areas he has a strong foundation in. Next, I would provide Carlos with
various opportunities to obtain the vocabulary needed in each content area. To develop his
vocabulary I would provide him with a guide prior to

The Physical Importance Of Outdoor Recreation
Outdoor recreation, but more specifically a place attachment that can be associated with outdoor
recreation, has had a huge impact on my life. Throughout my childhood, my family and I would
constantly travel to many outdoor recreation locations including Myrtle Beach, Pinery Provincial
Park, and St. Jacobs Farmers Market. These places hold special meaning and an emotional bond
for me, because I associate them with youthfulness and happiness. While everybody views place
differently, people form emotional attachments and beliefs of these places based on different
specifications. According to Williams and Stewart (1998), individuals may feel a special
connection to a place based on its social or personal history, scenic beauty, or spiritual meaning (p.
22). To truly understand the meaning of place and the importance of outdoor recreation, I recently
took part in four separate experiential activities at St. JacobsFarmers Market in Waterloo, Ontario.
After partaking in four outdoor experiential episodes at St. Jacobs Farmers Market, I decided to
create a time capsule of my experience for people to open fifty years from now. The time capsule
included post cards, photos of my experience, and a few physical components that I found
represented the market well and represented the importance of outdoor recreation. One of the
physical components was a maple sugar candy to represent how maple was an important staple to
Canadians, and how procuring maple syrup is an activity that can

these Hollywood s movies don t want to depict a biased image of Afro American, they focus on
many different aspects of African American life not just crime and drug culture which has often

the new turning point in Hollywood. These two full length films bring a new vision: points of

History Of Deer Park Water Company Essay
Do you ever wonder about the origin story behind the brands that we use in our everyday lives?
Well there is a story behind the founding of Deer Park Water Company. After the Civil War, the
Deer Park Hotel was built in the Appalachian Mountains located in Maryland by the Baltimore
and Ohio Railroad. The hotel was created to attract those who took passage on the railroad, but
the spring that was located nearby also caught the attention of the travelers. The spring was
known for the appeal of a clean source of water, this led the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad to start
putting the water into bottles in 1873. It was known as the Boiling Spring because the water
comes through sand on the way up. A company, known as The Boiling Spring Holding
Corporation, purchased the spring and the woods surrounding it in 1966. The Boiling Spring
Holding Corporation decided to put the spring to a use and made a profit bottling up the water and
selling it mainly throughout the New York area, until production eventually expanded across the
nation. Most of the water in the spring is located near the Appalachian Trail. Something interesting
about the Deer Park Hotel is that President Taft and his wife had their honeymoon there. Deer Park
Water Company is a sub corporation of the Nestle Waters North America Company. Nestle Waters
North America was founded in 1976 and started out importing Perrier Sparkling Water before
moving on to include regular bottled water. At the time that the company was first

Feminism In Flatland
A movement called Feminism started in the 1840 s and even still exists today. The movement
fights for women s equality with men. In the book, Flatland, by Edwin A. Abbott, the women
living in Flatland, a land of two dimensions, are seen as straight lines with no brains by the men
who are shapes. The book is narrated by A. Square who discovers new dimensions, or lands, and
learns about them. The theme of the story is that women in the Victorian Era are treated as if they
are less superior than men.
Abbott expresses that women are useless throughout his book. In Flatland, their angles are very
small, due to being a very skinny parallelogram, therefore they lack intelligence. For as they have
no pretensions to an angle . . . they are consequently ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Women are very thin parallelograms that resemble a needle. For if a Soldier is a wedge, a
Woman is a needle; being, so to speak, all point, at least at the two extremities (Abbott 10). In
Victorian era, women all wanted a small waist because men thought it was beautiful. A needle
represents the woman because needles are thin. In Flatland, they were assigned similar color as
Circles for the Universal Colour Bill. For by assigning to the Women the same two colours as
were assigned to the Priests . . . every Woman would appear like a Priest, and be treated with
corresponding respect and deference a prospect that could not fail to attract the female Sex in a
mass (Abbott 29). A. Square s usage of words makes women seem selfish. The Circles are the
highest class and are treated with respect. He says that women are painted the same as circles,
which rounded up all the female s attention because they want respect. Women are useless when it
comes to education. About three hundred years ago, it was decreed by the Chief Circle that, since
women are deficient in Reason but abundant in Emotion, they ought no longer to be treated as
rational, nor receive any mental education (Abbott 39 40). The Chief Circle thinks women are
useless in reasoning and education, yet very emotional. he believed women do not deserve to be
able to learn so he took it as their consequences. Abbott shows that how the women acts reflects on

Computer Networks And Its Impact On The Organization s...
Computer networks allow for employees within an organization to share files and exchange ideas
more efficiently. Also, computer networks make it easier to back up all the company s data on an
offsite server. Computer networking supports business operations and contributes immensely to
globalization. Therefore, organizations invest heavily in computer networks ensuring they work
efficiently. This paper discusses ten points to consider when evaluating a computer network. These
evaluation points explore the network s: security, data rate, network upgrade tolerance, device
interfacing, internetconnections, application performance, network services, wireless connectivity,
and its cost.
Network supports business value

Data rate analysis
For networks, the data medium is an important component. Given the medium works properly, then
the speed of transferring data (data rate) is good and short of delayed transmission. It is important
to ensure that networks have the right data medium in place. E.g. wired networks mostly utilize
Ethernet cables which can utilize coaxial cable, twisted pair wires or fibre optics. Furthermore,
these technologies come with pros and cons. A differentiator organization might ignore the cost of
fibre optics to gain higher data rates. Conversely, a cost leader might utilize twisted pair wires as
they are the least expensive technology used in networks. The network s performance and data rate
is determined by the data medium hence it has to be analyzed during a network
evaluation.(Ramandeep, 2013)
Accommodates company expansion (can be upgraded)
Sometimes, large companies absorb smaller companies to gain several advantages. For example, a
German company acquired the company I work for recently. Hence, the buyout entails
reorganization within the two companies and network upgrades. Also, the coming together of the
two companies creates jobs and the company will be hiring new employees who need access to
network resources. Furthermore, the company s research facility is expanding and new offices will
require connectivity. Thus, evaluating my companies network will require determining whether a
network upgrade is

Baby Sleep Research Paper
The Importance of Baby Sleep All living creatures need sleep. Sleeping gives people and all
living creatures the time for the body to recuperate and regenerate. Lion s needs 16 to 18 hours
of sleep, while primates, ten to twelve hours of sleep. Humans need on average six to eight hours
sleep to rejuvenate. Human babies need a full eight hours of sleep and naps in between. The body
uses sleep as a way to regenerate cells and refresh the brain and overall aids in the development of
our body, mind, and health. During our sleep, the human body can regenerate hair follicles,
fingernails, toenails and even the outer covering of the skin. This happens because of the automatic
pilot that is built into our bodies. People tend to think that

Life Course Theory And Developmental Theory
Life Course Concepts and Developmental Theory
According to Hutchison (2013), life course perspective looks at how chronological age,
relationships, common life transitions, and social change shape people s lives from conception to
death, (p. 383). In order to understand a person s life path, it is important to look at event history;
the order of significant events, experiences, and transitions in a person s life from conception to
death, taking into consideration how culture and social institutions have shaped the arrangement of
individual lives (Hutchison, 2013).
As described in Hutchison (2013), the life course perspective occupies traditional theories of
developmental psychology, which look at the events that normally occur in individual s ... Show

Generativity Versus Stagnation takes place during midlife when adult begin giving back to their
social system and focus more on generativity and their professional life, neglecting this stage can
lead to an end of productivity and withdrawal of life activities. The last of Erikson s stages, Ego
Integrity Versus Despair, occurs during late adulthood when individuals modify their way of
thinking and when the thought of unavoidable death rises; this aspect inspires the elderly to
rethink about their lives and achievements, if the individual feels they failed to take advantage of
opportunities in life they may enter into a state of unhappiness and surrender to defeat, yet if they
are satisfied with life they will experience honor and dignity. As a final point, the commitment to a
well established identity becomes stronger when conflicts in Erikson s life stages are resolved (p.

Aids Awareness By Larry Kramer Essay
In 1987, AIDS awareness activist Larry Kramer in his essay, I Can t Believe You Want to Die,
wrote, AIDS is our holocaust and Reagan is our Hitler. Kramer s metaphor of the AIDS epidemic
to the Holocaust is alluring to draw out parallels of genocide however the analogy stops at the
fact that the Holocaust was deliberate human evil disguised as biological research to solve the
Jewish problem , while HIV/AIDS was an actual disease without a solution that led to genocidal
indifference from government and medical institutions. However, some processes of genocide such
as the classification and dehumanization of a group of people are seen at the Holocaustin the early
twentieth century as well as the HIV/AIDS epidemic in the late twentieth century. The Holocaust
stemmed from Adolf Hitlers violent interpretation of biology and unwillingness to understand
the environmental causes of disease along with its biological ones. The HIV/AIDS epidemic
seems to have striking similarities [i.e. homosexuality and being Jewish as disease or social
other] Holocaust event because the people in power at the start of the epidemic ignored the
biological/biomedical need of the victims while at the same time political leaders only
acknowledged the environmental causes and not the biological. In this paper, I will discuss the
ways the Holocaust, driven by deliberate biological purposes to purify a race resulted in the
genocide of Jews, prisoners of war, and gypsies. It will also discuss the ways

  • 2. The Pros And Cons Of Counterfeiting If you have ever traveled to another country, you have probably seen vendors on the sidewalks or streets, selling designer brand goods at a really cheap price. You may have even purchased something from them. The fashion industry is a 1.2 trillion dollar global industry and employs 1.9 million people in the United States alone (Maloney, 2015). There is one market that is proving to be detrimental to this powerhouse industry. The black market of fashion, which produces counterfeit goods that are being sold at a fraction of the price of the originals. Whatever the reason a consumer has for purchasing a counterfeit product, that sale will still influence the global economy. Counterfeiting leads to huge losses for not only the industry, but also a loss of tax revenue for governments. It is estimated that counterfeiting consists of 5% to 7% of world trade and produces profits of over 650 billion dollars annually ( Challenges of Selling , 2008). Not only does counterfeiting steal profits from legitimate retailers, but it also causes loss of jobs, other, more violent crimes, supports child labor, and puts consumers health at risk (Bell, 2016). Since most illegal counterfeiting operations are run by organized crime rings, no taxes are paid, and the profits from selling these goods are often used to support other crimes such as drug and human trafficking, money laundering and even terrorism. Counterfeit sales in the United States have been directly related to the killing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Essay on Personality Analysis Abstract The purpose of this paper is to discuss characteristics of my personality. The main focus of this paper will be how my personality has developed over time. As I age and encounter new and different experiences, my personality has adapted and developed further. This paper will give an in depth exploration into the people and events that have influenced my personality. Personality is defined as a) the sum total of the physical, mental, emotional, and social characteristics of an individual. b) the organized pattern of behavioral characteristics of the individual (Dictionary.com, 2010). Whether we realize it or not, personality defines us as people. There are many facets to my personality,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I had to step out of my comfort zone and do what needed to be done in order to reach my goals. On the graduate level, I find that it is easier to be an introvert and participate. Once the human element is taken away, I can find myself being open. I do not see my classmates face to face so I can allow myself to say things that I ordinarily would not do or say. As I have gotten older, some of the introversion has faded to a certain extent, but it is still present. Through my job as a Special Education Teacher, I have had to overcome a majority of my introversion so I can effectively do my job. On any given day, I will have to speak to not only my students but also the office staff, coworkers, and possibly some of the children s parents. Conversation goes both ways, so to be successful at my job; I would have to be willing to be open and communicate with others more. I also have to realize that I need to make the first step sometimes. Not everyone is going to come to me; there are times I am going to have to go to others. Another characteristic of my personality is care. Despite my ever present introversion, I have always harbored a deep care for most people. Early in my childhood, my parents taught the importance of caring for others. Throughout my life, I have always put others before myself. • 4. Argumentative Essay On Organic Food Organic Foods The topic of being healthy is currently trending in our world right now. Everyone wants to follow the idea and live some form of a healthy lifestyle. Along being healthy, there is the demand of eating healthy; which is not always easy. There are so many types of food to consider, that it is almost overwhelming to search for healthy options. These options can range from yogurt to granola or even the type of carrots we choose, especially when there are different forms of farming methods for our vegetables. These methods of farming include conventional farming or organic farming. The difference? Simple, one requires the use of harmful fertilizers and pesticides; the other does not. Therefore, when it comes to deciding on the right vegetables for your health, organically grown food is your best option, here s why. First of all, the counter argument needs to be addressed. Many argue that there is not a significant difference between organic and conventional foods. Disagreements often sound like, There is very little scientific evidence to support any health benefits for organic products (Andrei). Opponents of organic food have argued that it is too expensive and not at all worth the high price. They state that Organic has become a synonym for luxury (Andrei). Many are choosing to eat organic simply because they can afford it. Small Group Communication Reflective Study Studying communications this semester I learned it is more than public speaking, but is focused on how to effectively share opinions or information to broaden ones perspective. In my communications class we focused on listening skills, interpersonal communications, and small group communication. Listening skills were developed when we did speech critiques on our group members. In addition, we listened to other speeches or Netflix shows to analyze communication methods. In class, we examined what makes up interpersonal communications including nonverbal skills, verbal skills, and development of ideas using evidence. In addition, we worked on own skills by writingand delivering 3 speeches on a topic of our choice that we are passionate about. This helped me define how I communicate my own opinions to others. It is an important issue because it concerns basic moral and human rights. People all over the world come to the United States in search of freedom and equality. Being able to marry anyone, no matter the gender, is a freedom of right, but if that freedom of right is taken away from people than there is no equality. I think this amendment protects the rights of homosexuals. Same sex marriage should be legal because all individuals have the same right in society; same sex couples can constitute a good based family. It is just a way to make official a common union nowadays, even there are religious issue; because it is not related to polygamy; and because love matters and it does not differ in nature according to the sex of its object or the person who experiences it. Prior to the U.S. Supreme Court ruling, same sex marriage is only legal in some states. Some states do not agree with same sex marriage. Same sex marriage was legal in 36 states and the District of Columbia. In 19 of those states. (Nascri). I think same sex marriage should be legal. Like a group of dumb kids who go into the abandoned house on their street, when setting up, each player finds themselves playing the role of one of 12 different people standing inside of the foyer a decrepit old mansion (presumably on a hill). The players then have the task of exploring said creepy mansion, uncovering tiles and finding items or events that happen in each of the rooms. The characters gain and lose some of their stats based on these events and items, allowing them to either become more powerful than they were initially upon entering the house, or it may end up killing their character if any of the stats reach zero. The other possible things a player might find when looking around the house are omens. These are like events, but the player has make a haunt roll that gets harder for each omen that gets uncovered. • 15. The Convergence of Port Security Technologies Worldwide Title: Convergence of Port Security Technologies Worldwide Introduction The importance of maritime and port security cannot be overemphasized. This is due to the fact that close to 90% of global trade happens by sea (Canadian Master Mariners Conference,2011) coupled with the threats posed by terrorism and organized crime on national and international security (Frittelli,2005). Technology has over the years been employed in the management of risks associated with port security. In this paper, we describe the convergence of port security technologies in domestic and foreign ports around the world and how these technologies work together from departure to arrival of these ships from one port to the next and ensure the safety and security of port authorities, civilian populace, and the many entities working within these ports. The need for tighter security at domestic and foreign ports Ituh (2010) noted that following the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack on U.S soil, the recognition of the risk that radiological and nuclear devices could easily be smuggled inside inbound cargo containers led the US members of Congress to pass laws that required the US customs Service to perform closed inspections of all the incoming container at all the U.S seaports. This then led to the creation of Security and Accountability for Every Port (SAFE) Act which was signed by George Bush. • 17. Reflection On Student Learning Written Reflection #2 As a teacher, our responsibility is to plan effective lessons for our students to learn from. Although, the hardest part of being a teacher is grasping the student s motivation to learn. Therefore, the educational philosophers Borich and Wong have different approaches to make us effective teachers motivate our students to learn new and exciting teachings. These different methods may include a wide range of how teachers run their classrooms, or what specific standards are being targeted, and maybe even how effective their planning techniques are. Not to mention, students may also expect positive expectations from the teacher and ways to help them succeed. On the other note, inviting students to learn may be easier than thought, in which may result in positive student behavior. Thus, my opinion of what Borich and Wong have to say about student learningis very beneficial to me so, that one day I may use their techniques in my very own classroom. In chapter 4, in the Borich text book he clarifies the different ways to manage a classroom through three different systems called humanist tradition, applied behavior analysis, and classroom management tradition. A subdivision topic under the humanist tradition mentions cooperative learning has proven statistics to gain student learning rather than whole group instruction. Borich clearly states that students tend to be bored , frustrated , and disruptive when being taught in whole group instruction (Borich ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Television Genre And Style Of Mockumentaries Essay Within the realm of television today, many of the more popular comedies have a very specific style of production and way of capturing scenes. This style is often referred to as the Mockumentary style and can be seen within examples like The Office and Park and Recreation. The popularity of these shows alone have inspired many other different spin offs and takes on this specific style of comedy, but these shows shouldn t be credited as the founders of the mockumentary style. In fact, for televisionshows the mockumentary s history goes farther back by a couple of decades. This paper will attempt to discover the answers to three main questions regarding the television genre and style of mockumentaries. Firstly, the definition of a mockumentary and a general understanding of the stylistic similarities must be examined before the history of the mockumentary is to be explored. Next, the historical background will be considered as well as the cultural significance and impact of the shows that emulated this mockumentary style. Lastly, the paper will look to the current cultural contexts and the social impacts of the popular, modern day televisions shows that incorporate these styles. Through the analysis of the mockumentary style in the combination of the historical lens and the definitional lens, modern day shows that utilize this subgenre will be better understood as well as their impacts on society itself. Both are young women who have married men much older than themselves. They both become involved with young, manipulative men. They also conspire to and do cuckold their husbands. This is not what marriage is about and it is demonstrated in both tales. What makes the Miller s Tale bawdy comedy and the Merchant s tale bitter satire is in the characterization. With impish delight she conspires with Nicholas the outlandish plot of convincing her husband that a great flood is coming. We know she cares not for Damien as when she receives a love letter from him she easily disposes it in the privy. It is easy to see that her motivation for adultery is really one of revenge and not out of affection for Damien. January assaulted her by the mere fact of marrying her. This is satire on the whole theme of courtly love. This feeling of revenge on her part is further demonstrated in the cuckold scene. May deceives January quite wickedly in the garden. Yet for the reader we can not fault her for it. January has that garden for the purpose of licentious behavior. It is there so he can have May sexually in the way he wants her. She ... Genetic engineering involves the process of taking samples of one species genes/DNA and transferring it into a new host cell, this cell containing the DNA will then grow into the new cell creating a transgenic species. DNA samples can also be inserted into the new species by acting as a virus or by using a micro pipette injection. Transgenic species are mainly used in fruit and vegetables to prevent pests eating the food supply. Genetic engineering is also used for commercial purposes. One example of successful transgenic species is a strawberry plant with a salmon geneinserted into it, the salmon gene helps the strawberries grow in a colder environment. These crops are also known as GMO s (genetically modified organisms). Like his words elucidate, music, for many centuries, was a way of expressing things that could not be put into words. It displayed raw emotion in some cases and gave life to ideas and notions in other cases. Throughout history, various figures and composers contributed to music worldwide. However, there is one that stands out the most. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, a child prodigy and composer at the age of six, who played and composed so effortlessly, would change music styles and influence many great composers that would come years afterwards. Othello had no idea that, his so called friend and compatriot, was a villainous person capable of lying to him. He believed Iago so much that he lost all self control and committed a horrible act. Why is it important to use the customer worth in the DBM efforts rather than the observed level of play? The case study article defines customer worth as the theoretical amount the house expects to win, over the long term, from a customer based on his level of play. This calculation allows Harrah s management to more strategically analyze and predict a customer s future spending as opposed to analysis of observed level of play which is only based on a customer s previous spending patterns. The example contained in this article of Ms. Maranees best exemplifies the benefits of calculating customer worth as opposed to an observed level of play. Ms. Maranees only played a limited amount in a short timeframe at Harrah s, so if one were to solely judge her future habits by her observed level of play during that trip, they likely would not feel that she was a customer worth targeting. However, in analysis of her customer worth and theoretical wins, it was evident that Ms. Maranees was likely a very profitable customer who was probably bringing a majority of her business to Harrah s competition, so it would in fact be advantageous for Harrah s to win her business. 3. • 41. Classical Vs. Modern Music Classical vs. Modern Music Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born on January 27, 1756, in Salzburg, Austria. He was born to an overbearing and ambitious father, Leopold, who was more than anxious to exploit his son s extraordinary musical gifts. Mozart began composing at an early age, and he began touring around the same time. Throughout his life, Mozart made many enemies, many his own fault, through his naive arrogance and harsh critique of his musical contemporaries. He worked feverishly, composing symphonies and operas, as well as touring constantly. Mozart died of overwork and kidney failure on the 5th of December 1791 while still ironically at work on the Requiem Mass for an unknown patron. Though he lived for a relatively short time, ... A full orchestra performed the symphonies. Overall, the Mostly Mozart Festival was a tremendously enjoyable experience. The qualities that define the works of Mozart are often the same as those that are used to describe those of the classical period of music, from his smooth melodies and flowing rhythm, to his pleasing use of dynamics to create an atmosphere of complete satisfaction. One of the most defining principles of the style of Mozart is the connection to nature and God, and the seeming oneness and harmony that can be achieved simply by listening while the melodies take you to a higher plane of thought. The most enjoyable piece from the performance was Allegro, from Mozart s Concerto in Dm. There are simply not enough words in the English vocabulary to describe how eloquently crafted and rhythmically shaped this piece is. One of the most outstanding elements of this piece is the harmony created between the piano and the strings as they accompany each other with seeming flawlessness. The resulting experience is exhilarating to say the least. Accentuating the piece even more was the performance by the virtuoso pianist, Stewart Goodyear. Although still in his early twenties, this musical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the book Why Tesol?, it states that the major tenets of Cummins model of second language acquisition is the framework that focuses on the distinction between social language and academic language. Cummins suggests that academic language takes longer to acquire and social language is easier because it is in the here and now . Cummins Quadrant Model consists of 4 quadrants: Quadrant 1 Social language; Quadrant 2 Target language; Quadrant 3 Target language; Quadrant 4 Academic language. (p. 152). Although, there are many models of second language acquisition, I felt that Cummin s model was a great representative of where Carlos second languageacquisition has fallen behind. When beginning remediation with Carlos my first priority is to provide him with a solid foundation of academic vocabulary that will assist him throughout his learningexperience. This process is beneficial when teaching content area. In order for Carlos to succeed in the classroom he will need to become familiar and be able to comprehend the content area. Before beginning each lesson I would have Carlos share his knowledge of the vocabulary words and academic language that is beneficial to the lesson. This will provide insight to see which areas I need to review and which areas he has a strong foundation in. Next, I would provide Carlos with various opportunities to obtain the vocabulary needed in each content area. To develop his vocabulary I would provide him with a guide prior to ... Throughout my childhood, my family and I would constantly travel to many outdoor recreation locations including Myrtle Beach, Pinery Provincial Park, and St. Jacobs Farmers Market. These places hold special meaning and an emotional bond for me, because I associate them with youthfulness and happiness. While everybody views place differently, people form emotional attachments and beliefs of these places based on different specifications. According to Williams and Stewart (1998), individuals may feel a special connection to a place based on its social or personal history, scenic beauty, or spiritual meaning (p. 22). To truly understand the meaning of place and the importance of outdoor recreation, I recently took part in four separate experiential activities at St. JacobsFarmers Market in Waterloo, Ontario. After partaking in four outdoor experiential episodes at St. Jacobs Farmers Market, I decided to create a time capsule of my experience for people to open fifty years from now. The time capsule included post cards, photos of my experience, and a few physical components that I found represented the market well and represented the importance of outdoor recreation. One of the physical components was a maple sugar candy to represent how maple was an important staple to Canadians, and how procuring maple syrup is an activity that can ... • 45. History Of Deer Park Water Company Essay Do you ever wonder about the origin story behind the brands that we use in our everyday lives? Well there is a story behind the founding of Deer Park Water Company. After the Civil War, the Deer Park Hotel was built in the Appalachian Mountains located in Maryland by the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad. The hotel was created to attract those who took passage on the railroad, but the spring that was located nearby also caught the attention of the travelers. The spring was known for the appeal of a clean source of water, this led the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad to start putting the water into bottles in 1873. It was known as the Boiling Spring because the water comes through sand on the way up. A company, known as The Boiling Spring Holding Corporation, purchased the spring and the woods surrounding it in 1966. The Boiling Spring Holding Corporation decided to put the spring to a use and made a profit bottling up the water and selling it mainly throughout the New York area, until production eventually expanded across the nation. Most of the water in the spring is located near the Appalachian Trail. Something interesting about the Deer Park Hotel is that President Taft and his wife had their honeymoon there. Deer Park Water Company is a sub corporation of the Nestle Waters North America Company. Nestle Waters North America was founded in 1976 and started out importing Perrier Sparkling Water before moving on to include regular bottled water. At the time that the company was first ... • 47. Feminism In Flatland A movement called Feminism started in the 1840 s and even still exists today. The movement fights for women s equality with men. In the book, Flatland, by Edwin A. Abbott, the women living in Flatland, a land of two dimensions, are seen as straight lines with no brains by the men who are shapes. The book is narrated by A. Square who discovers new dimensions, or lands, and learns about them. The theme of the story is that women in the Victorian Era are treated as if they are less superior than men. Abbott expresses that women are useless throughout his book. In Flatland, their angles are very small, due to being a very skinny parallelogram, therefore they lack intelligence. For by assigning to the Women the same two colours as were assigned to the Priests . . . every Woman would appear like a Priest, and be treated with corresponding respect and deference a prospect that could not fail to attract the female Sex in a mass (Abbott 29). A. Square s usage of words makes women seem selfish. The Circles are the highest class and are treated with respect. He says that women are painted the same as circles, which rounded up all the female s attention because they want respect. Women are useless when it comes to education. About three hundred years ago, it was decreed by the Chief Circle that, since women are deficient in Reason but abundant in Emotion, they ought no longer to be treated as rational, nor receive any mental education (Abbott 39 40). Given the medium works properly, then the speed of transferring data (data rate) is good and short of delayed transmission. It is important to ensure that networks have the right data medium in place. E.g. wired networks mostly utilize Ethernet cables which can utilize coaxial cable, twisted pair wires or fibre optics. Furthermore, these technologies come with pros and cons. A differentiator organization might ignore the cost of fibre optics to gain higher data rates. Conversely, a cost leader might utilize twisted pair wires as they are the least expensive technology used in networks. The network s performance and data rate is determined by the data medium hence it has to be analyzed during a network evaluation.(Ramandeep, 2013) Accommodates company expansion (can be upgraded) Sometimes, large companies absorb smaller companies to gain several advantages. • 52. Aids Awareness By Larry Kramer Essay In 1987, AIDS awareness activist Larry Kramer in his essay, I Can t Believe You Want to Die, wrote, AIDS is our holocaust and Reagan is our Hitler. Kramer s metaphor of the AIDS epidemic to the Holocaust is alluring to draw out parallels of genocide however the analogy stops at the fact that the Holocaust was deliberate human evil disguised as biological research to solve the Jewish problem , while HIV/AIDS was an actual disease without a solution that led to genocidal indifference from government and medical institutions. However, some processes of genocide such as the classification and dehumanization of a group of people are seen at the Holocaustin the early twentieth century as well as the HIV/AIDS epidemic in the late twentieth century. The Holocaust stemmed from Adolf Hitlers violent interpretation of biology and unwillingness to understand the environmental causes of disease along with its biological ones. The HIV/AIDS epidemic seems to have striking similarities [i.e. homosexuality and being Jewish as disease or social other] Holocaust event because the people in power at the start of the epidemic ignored the biological/biomedical need of the victims while at the same time political leaders only acknowledged the environmental causes and not the biological.
