Narrative
A major role in my life would definitely be sports. It is almost as if I look up to sports because I
could not live without them. Sports pretty much define me as me. I love to play sports as well as
watch all kinds of sports on T.V. and if I could ever go to a game and watch the players play live I
would be thrilled. Basically sports define me because I am ambitious, I finish what I start, I set goals
for myself, and I am a fierce competitor in which I love to win and I hate to lose. The greatest part
about sports to me is living for the moment when the game is on the line and the pressure is on can
you come through and make a play for your ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With the game tied 6–6 that is when I went into my own little zone and was in my moment. The
crowed was electrified and cheering us on. I thought about all the hard work the coaches put us
through doing two a days and keeping us late after a hard practice, spending all of that time and hard
work just for this one little moment when the game was on the line. Back to reality our quarterback
had started the play and it looked like it was going nowhere and we might have to got into overtime.
Then after about 6 crazy seconds he threw the ball to our halfback and he broke a couple tackles and
the somehow stretched across the goal line by about 2 inches and we had taken the lead 8–6 with 52
seconds to go. When the game clock hit 00:00 for the first time in our schools history the football
team had beaten Aberdeen and none of us could believe it. This was a special moment.
Now, it was in this moment when I had realized that sports define me as me because we never gave
up, none of us wanted to lose, we set a goal and completed it, but most important we kept our eye on
the prize and came through in the moment when the game was on the line. Nobody is going to
remember how many games we won or who the best player on the team was that season, but I
guarantee what people will remember is when we had beaten Aberdeen for the first time in school

High School Persuasive Research Paper
Everybody will age, mature and enter the real world. It can be nerve–racking and people feel tossed
into the new world with no skills or training. Now with raising concerns that school may not prepare
you for real life as hoped, students incriminate Aberdeen. Aberdeen School District doesn't hold a
position in the "top ten" of education programs in America. Should the blame be thrust back upon
them? With a reputation like ours and the lack of money for education, the district does the best with
what they have. Our high school gives us many options concerning our future. A school, no matter
how much money they have, cannot find time in the day to discover your interests, act upon them,
and set up your classes accordingly. However everyone can find some interesting extracurricular
activities. If a student digs agriculture, join FFA. If students play an instrument or have a killer
voice, we have a great ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They do this through a program called Running Start. All high schoolers can take online APEX
classes to catch up if they have failed a class. We have AP classes if a student tests bright enough.
This district has an alternative high school if a student falls too far behind. However there should be
more, like mandatory life skills. The district, however, does not make our standards and
requirements, but they are blamed none the less. We envision school as a place to prepare for the
future. We see no conceivable point in radicals and exponents at this age. The most asked question is
"When will we use this in real life?" Learning, on the other hand, may not always be about what a
child learns. The process of problem solving, thinking through ideas and coming up with new ideas
has worked for years. Where else would new inventions and jobs come from? It may help students
to realize every lesson has a purpose, however ridiculous it may seem at

Aberdeen Central High School Weightroom Observation
Millions of students across the nation spend countless mornings and late nights in the weight room
trying to achieve something greater. Weight rooms, much like the one I grew to know here in
Aberdeen, are the beginning to so many dreams coming true. The bright lights and loud music invite
you into a place of team building and hard work. In the weight room at Aberdeen Central High
School, the comforting sound of weights hitting the floor became home. I looked to the records on
the wall with fondness, motivating me to learn what hard work was and how to be patient in letting
it pay off. The black floors and eagles on the platforms will be engrained into my brain forever;
blood, sweat and all. Seeing the face of that powerful bird made me proud

Kurt Cobain Tragic Hero Essay
Kurt Cobain once said, "Drugs are a waste of time. They destroy your memory and your self–respect
and everything that goes along with your self–esteem. They're no good at all." Kurt Donald Cobain
was born on February 20, 1967, in Aberdeen, Washington and died on April 5, 1994, in Seattle,
Washington. Even though, Cobain lived a short life he is still considered a tragic hero. According to
Dictionary.com, a tragic hero is defined as, "a great or virtuous character in a dramatic tragedy who
is destined for downfall, suffering, or defeat." While Kurt Cobain is not a character from a dramatic
tragedy, his choice of drugs and suicide lead to his suffering throughout life. At an early age, Cobain
had an interest in art and music. He was encouraged ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the age of two he began singing, then at age four, he began playing the piano. One moment that
had a profound effect on his life; however, was when his parents divorced when he was nine years
old. After the divorce his behavior changed, he started becoming more rebellious. His father
promised that he wouldn't marry anyone again. However, he went on to marry Jenny Westeby soon
afterward. Cobain started to become depressed after witnessing his mom being abused by her
boyfriend. Since Cobain's behavior did not change after his father was granted custody, he was sent
to live with a family friend. Living with a family friend, Jesse Reed, helped Kurt Cobain become a
devoted Christian, who started regularly attending church services. His father wanted him to join
sports, such as wrestling and little league baseball. Cobain, however, would intentionally fail at
these things in order to make his father sad and to get out of playing (Kurt Cobain Biography).
Cobain then started getting bullied for being associated with a homosexual boy because others
thought he was gay. Kurt Cobain once said that he liked being associated with a gay identity because
that meant that people would leave him alone if they

How To Infect Salmon
At first when I started college, I was on the path to become a biologist. I wanted to get more
experience in the field, so I asked my advisor, Doctor Amanda Gunn, if there was had any
opportunities for me to get hands–on experience in my field. She said she was studying Aeromonas
Salmonicida, a bacterium that causes diseases in salmon. She wanted me to use bioinformatics tools
to learn about its ability to infect salmon. The goal was to determine if certain aspects of the
bacterium could be modified or "genetically engineered" so the salmon's immune system would be
able to respond more efficiently. This lead me down the path of bioengineering, a field of study
where genetic material is altered for certain characteristics. After completing the ... Show more

I go to church on Saturday and while I am not out with my age group every week, I'm with a people
who are at least a decade older or younger than me. Some of these people don't get to talk people to
people much so it's fun listening to their stories and fun having someone to listen to them. People
like military members, outdoorsman, and engineers. I also heard about the experience of being
homeless. Aberdeen gets very rainy and cold at night, so not having a place to stay is awful. The rain
from that isn't drained gets all over the sidewalk and whoever has to walk there for just 10 minutes
gets their shoes soggy and moist. Imagine walking around all day and sleeping all night in that!
Being homeless also means it harder to afford find food. Hearing these stories from people I talked
to every week made me want to do something about it. I ran for ASB of my high school and became
the Senior Class President. I used my position to organize foodball, an event where two cities
compete to raise the most resources for the Coastal Harvest. That is a food storage facility that
donates to food banks across the State of Washington in times of emergency. The year I was running
it the two cities competing were Hoquiam and Aberdeen. Even though the name was foodball, it
wasn't just food we were collecting. It was also money to donate to and help raise resources for food
banks, like socks, shoes, and shirts. I cleaned up after the events, dressed up as a mascot and danced
to raise money for several events. I was even able to run an intercity dodgeball game. A game which
Aberdeen won. Although Aberdeen didn't beat Hoquiam in the end, we managed to beat the amount
of food raised last year. After foodball ended, I decided I wanted to do more. I became a deacon at
my church and several times a month I help run the P.A., fix broken things around the church with
my dad, and count and collect offering. While Aberdeen does have a "punk" flair to it, I feel it

Nick And Nicole Fischer
Nick and Nicole Fischer are an Aberdeen–based artist couple who have made a significant
contribution to the artistic community and culture of Aberdeen and South Dakota. As Northern State
University alumni, they are both fully established as distinct artists and together represent a force
and a voice that has already left a mark on the contemporary art world of the Midwest. Throughout
the last decade, they have been engaging the local community in a multitude of exhibitions,
performances, and educational activities. Their love for one another and their love of art is what
binds them and their investigative approach connects their distinctive styles in a common conceptual
strategy.

patient and repetitive movement of the hand dropping sand on a surface is mirrored in Nicole's
approach to constructing her mandalas, with an evident connection to meditation.
Symbolism is a key consideration for Nicole. Motherhood is a theme throughout her work and is

pregnancy. Historical and contemporary symbols of fertility are often hidden throughout her

The Road To Hell Essay
In the dead of night, caked in icy mud and blood from the abrasions of the brambles in the mire
passed the Fluted Vale; Aberdeen escaped in the cover of darkness in scantly a stitch of clothing
stark against her rice flower white skin. She removed leeches from her body with numb fingers and
slight pain and annoyance as the chill of the cold ground permeated her tired cold bones in a place
just past pure exhaustion. Her heart raced with a sluggish gurgle in her heart and she could feel it in
her ears as she saw her breath in plumes of steam in the waning moonlight. She put enough space
between her and the blood hounds of Karth 's farm and bounty hunters to catch up with her thoughts.
The flashes of her intimate interactions with Urakiel spasmed in her mind recalling the exhilaration
of finally attaining a taste of who she 'd always longed for but the sadness also of his gaunt state.
That he was duty bound instead of taking her passionately in love. That he was still bound to that
Bitch of a wife of his who set him out to torture her in the first place by the taste of what she could
not have and what she could not keep. Aberdeen 's tireless efforts resulted in her arrival of just
outside Brighamsdale just south of Swine–hall. "Should I steal a nag from the Swine–hall Stables, or
get to the Bunkhouse and try to address Mister Martin? If I cause any commotion Karth might find
me and I can 't have that. Jacks told me to go find Mister Martin. The Carriage driver,

Should Fast Food Be Banned In Aberdeen?
Imagine watching television and a commercial comes up with the Mayor of the City of Aberdeen
Bill Simpson. The Mayor is announcing to all the city that all fast food restaurants in Aberdeen will
be banned. Everyone in the council agrees. McDonald's, Dairy Queen, Burger King, Jack in the
Box, and many more "delicious" fast food restaurants will be banned in all Aberdeen. Fast food
restaurants should be banned. One reason why Fast Food should be banned in the city of Aberdeen
is it causes obesity. For example, in the article of Fast Food, "Is It the Enemy?" it explains that
33.8% of the U.S. population is affected by obesity. Also, in the article of "is it the enemy", it also
explains that the Burger king whopper has too much stuff than it already is in. Specifically, the
Burger king whopper has 670 calories and 40g of fat. Finally, why fast food causes obesity is that
also the sodas can cause obesity, for instance, Major Michael R. Bloomberg went last week in a case
to ban supersized sodas and sugary drinks. It's not just the hamburgers, it is also the sodas that cause
obesity. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

product because it is delicious but don't see what proteins or vitamins a burger has. Finally, people
are unaware of what they eat. For instance, in video number 1 of L.A fast food ban, Alberto Diaz

she did, Coby rarely wanted for anything. She was the walking definition of a perfect life. It wasn't

Bank Levy Issues
One of the major issues that a taxpayer faces when they are in debt is tax liens are put on their
account. This can cause a significant financial crisis to an individual or a business. Once a tax lien is
put on an account, the owner does not have the right to access it, as the money is seized to pay the
tax debt. In a situation like this, one is unable to carry out even their basic monthly expenses such as
rent, food, bills, and other payments.
Tax Liens
A lien or tax lien is usually imposed by the government on the property of a citizen when they fail to
pay taxes. The lien is imposed on personal property as well as on real property. It is seized in order
to get the tax money back. In a situation like this, an individual can lose their business as well, thus
cutting them off from any kind of source of income.
Wage Garnishment
Even though you are running low on money, there are certain expenses that must be met such as
rent, phone bills, school fees, gas, car payments and various other things. In addition to these, you

Critique Of Social Support And Migration
Critique of Social Support and Migration in Scotland Project on Experiences of Social Security and
Prospects for Long Term Settlement in Scotland amongst Migrants from Central Eastern Europe and
Former Soviet Union.
1. Introduction
Academics in the United Kingdom have a long experience of conducting research on migrants and
refugees. However, when ten Eastern European states joined the European Union in 2004 and 2007,
and many new migrants arrived, it became a challenge to an academic world to investigate this new
phenomenon. One of the attempts to comprehend this unknown territory is the research conducted
by the University of Glasgow and the University of Swansea; called the Social Support and
Migration in Scotland (SSAMIS). Their research tries to study "perspectives and experiences of
'social security ' amongst migrants from Central Eastern Europe and the Former Soviet Union in
Scotland."
The purpose of this essay is to critically discuss if in overall the SSAMIS project is a successful
piece of research. This is a challenging task as the research still has not been finished. Nevertheless,
it is possible to look at their research methods and initial findings to say if the research seems to
achieve its aims.
In order to do it, this essay will be divided into three main parts: 1) overview of the research
conducted by SSAMIS, 2) research methods, and 3) initial findings. In each part, the discussion on
the research will be conducted with the presentation of some examples

The Purpose Of The Police Force
The purpose of the police force is to protect and serve while upholding Constitutional human rights.
All police departments follow some code of honor that functionally swears them into oath that they
will enforce laws while assisting and protecting the general populace. This much can be said about
all police forces across the nation and of for the most part – the world. That being said, there is no
exception in Aberdeen. Aberdeen's department is composed of 45 active officers and 4 reserve
officers along with 9 civilian employees. The mission statement that the department released to the
population of Aberdeen declares that they will provide fairness in their judgments to promote trust
amongst the community while demonstrating respect for each other and the general populous. Also,
honesty and integrity are to be maintained while demonstrating competence in the environment. In
serving the public they agree to regulate traffic abnormalities, investigate crimes, and provide escort
services for business, funerals and so forth. But that's not all, they respond to just about anything
that is called in or brought to their attention by any other means, in quite a literal sense they are
servants of the people. Maintaining order is a key function to the police force as it is a means to
maintain peace and tranquility within an urbanized environment. It's a universal functionality that
halts the anarchy that could easily erupt if there was no repercussive force. Order maintenance is

This paper explores the band Nirvana which was established in 1987 and how it came to be. The
band consisted of Kurt Cobain, Krist Novoselic, Dave Grohl and previous members that included
Aaron Burkhard, Dale Crover, Dave Foster, and Chad Channing. Their genre explored alternative
rock and grunge which was being strident with the guitar and lethargic vocals. For a band that only
produced 3 albums in the span of 7 years their work stood out and were labeled as one of the various
significant and affluential bands in rock and roll. The band disbanded in 1994 when Kurt Cobain

Their debut album would then follow the next year called Bleach. Although this album didn't sell
too well at first, it was a critically acclaimed record that exposed what the band had to offer. After
Bleach, Nirvana started recording their second album and while doing so discovered the drummer
Dave Grohl who played with the duo for the majority of the years together. In 1990, the band traded
their independent label Sub Pop with major label David Geffen Company Records. Nirvana's second
album, Nevermind, came out in 1991 and was an unexpected success due to the popularity of the hit
single Smells Like Teen Spirit. This hit album was held in high regards due to its credits of bringing
alternative rock and grunge to the mainstream music. The band was well known because when their
performances ended they would destroy their instruments making that what they became famous for.
In 1992 the members grew uncomfortable with the success they had built because speculations arose
about Kurt Cobain being a heavy heroin user. Despite these speculation their third album, In Utero,

Enterprise Resource Planning : A Single Cross Functional...
Enterprise resource planning enables firms to replace different departmental information systems
and database silos with systems that collectively work as a single cross functional database. ERP
systems are available for every key business function such as order processing, production control,
HR, warehouse, marketing, finance and much more. By having a common technology and database
platform throughout the firm, systems and processes from various departments can be integrated that
achieve superiority in terms of enhanced cost, operational and productivity benefits. Implementing
an ERP system requires careful planning to achieve the targeted benefits and minimize the risk of
project failure. In many firms, the various functional ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Financial controllers can obtain an immediate, up–to–date or a real time snapshot of orders, work in
progress and stock levels to improve financial planning. Production planning staff can manage stock
levels efficiently in line with orders and delivery schedules. Human resources staff can identify the
need for recruitment or redeployment in line with changing business needs or corporate goals.
Senior managers have an access to the dashboard of operations so they can make effective decisions
on investment, resource allocation and respond quickly to changing scenarios. Deploying an ERP
system can help transform different aspects of business processes and cope with the challenges of
growth. By reducing inconsistencies in administration, streamlining processes, ERP systems enable
staff to concentrate on the core tasks. By enabling and equipping employees with business tools,
ERP systems enable the firms to make a greater contribution to the efficiency and profitability of the
organization. Implementing an ERP system carries significant risk. A firm wide deployment
represents a major investment in time, effort and capital. The cost of a complete ERP system may be
beyond the means of a growing business. Although one can deploy individual modules for different
departments as funds are available, one would not reap the full benefits of a firms–wide system for
some time. Deployment also can lead to disruption as employees go through a learning and

Commercial Law Work Example.
Question 1
The UK Rail vs. Smithfileld case is a striking example of the term – Agency of Necessity. This is the
case when, in certain circumstances, the agent is allowed by law to take actions on behalf of the
principal without the will, knowledge or any other representation of the principal. However, certain
requirements have to be met, in order for the agent to claim that it acted out of necessity: 1) the
actions have been taken for the reason of compelling emergency; 2) impossibility of
communication; and 3) interests of the principal (to be genuinely judged by the agency). The first
test to be passed by an agent is the necessity to take salvage actions. In cases of an emergency or a

At Aberdeen while forming these small groups, the groups themselves have the ability to choose
their leader and also, decide on how long they want a specific person to lead that group. The groups
also have a unique ability to work within their groups on work schedules. If a person needs some
time off, the flexibility of the group will allow it. One important aspect of the groups at Aberdeen is
the ability for the groups to counsel others in either a positive or negative situation. Social loafing is
practically non existent due to the rotating of team leaders and responsibility placed on each

cohesiveness, which is very effective and creates a positive working environment. At Aberdeen,
with only 100 employees the need for virtual teams via internal communication networks such as

relationships have almost made it possible to do away with leaders. It appears at

Aberdeen and Green River Essay
Goal setting is a powerful process for personal planning. By setting goals on a routine basis
employees can decide what they want to achieve, and then move step–by–step towards achieving
these goals.
The process of setting goals and targets would allow your employees to choose where they want to
go career wise. By knowing precisely what they want to achieve, they would know what to
concentrate on to do it.
Goals are set on a number of different levels: First you decide what you want to do and what large–
scale goals you want to achieve. Second, you break these down into the smaller and smaller targets
that you must hit so that you reach your lifetime goals. Finally, once you have your plan, you start
working towards achieving it.

Performance appraisal is a process of assessing, summarizing and developing the work performance
of an employee. Every career employee should receive a written performance appraisal at least
annually using the appropriate UCSD Performance Appraisal Model.
Whether you wish to start a new performance appraisal system in your organization – or improve an
existing one, I have a few tips:
1. Before meeting with the employee, review his or her job description and work record for the
review cycle. Review your observations, notes, and the previous performance appraisal.
2. Give the employee advance notice of the performance appraisal so that he or she has the chance
to review and prepare.
3. Hold a preliminary meeting with the employee in private.
4. Conclude the meeting by scheduling a second meeting. Invite the employee to prepare a written
self–appraisal, if one is used in your department. A self–appraisal may be used as the basis of
discussion during the formal appraisal process.

Lord Palmerston's Report
Henry John Temple, third Viscount Palmerston was guided in his conduct of foreign policy by his
belief in free trade, his determination to keep the balance of power in Europe, and his dislike of
autocratic governments. Lord Palmerston became one of the politicians most known for his liberal
internationalism, sometimes called liberal interventionism. His determination to see his principles
turned into action often led him to some severe policies, and consequently he was seen as caustic by
his rivals, earning him the nickname 'Lord Pumice Stone'.1 His resolve to support British supremacy
in all foreign matters is exemplified through his early use of gunboat diplomacy. This is also seen
through his multiple attempts to maintain the balance ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Aside from the affront to liberal free trade ideology, Palmerston saw the Chinese attitude toward
British diplomats as an insult. Chinese officials refused to accept British diplomats as equals to their
own elite classes. In Jasper Ridley's book, Lord Palmerston, Ridley explains that all communication
to the Chinese government had to begin with the word 'Pin' which indicated an inferior petitioning a
superior.3 The fact that representatives of the British crown were made to behave like subordinates
to the Chinese Emperor was seen by Palmerston as a detriment to British prestige. Palmerston made
several attempts to rectify the imbalance of acknowledgment in British–Chinese relations.
Palmerston's first effort was in sending Lord William John Napier, a family friend of his, to attempt
to expand trade in China and to enter into discourse on equal terms. Napier was to do this without
offending the Chinese, but by acting as an envoy of the King of England on equal footing, and not as
an inferior. After the negotiation led by Napier failed disastrously due to the two sides disagreeing
on etiquette, Napier was forced to evacuate the country. Following Napier's failure, Palmerston sent
Captain Charles Elliot, another friend of his, to attempt the same changes that Lord Napier had
attempted. Elliot, however, eventually got into an altercation with the Chinese as well

Analysis Of Porcupines And China Dolls By Robert Arthur...
In Porcupines and China Dolls , Robert Arthur Alexie writes of hard hitting, serious issues that
Aboriginal communities across Canada face but that are rarely spoken of. Alexie writes with blunt
honestly aimed at an older audience who understand the frank discussions of alcoholism, domestic
violence and sex, both consensual and not and the consequences they have on both individuals and
the community. While the pace lags at the beginning, it does successfully build the bleak world of
the novel and the people who reside in it. Hard hitting topics, some of which are more fleshed out
than others by the end, will leave the reader thinking and wondering about the everyday challenges
the victims of residential schools face. Porcupines and China Dolls is set in the small Aboriginal
community of Aberdeen, in the Northwest Territories at the turn of the millennium. The book has
three sections: Part One is the brief history of the Blue People who lived in the area where the novel
takes place and how their children were put in residential schools (or hostels) for generations. It then
introduces us to the main characters of the novel as children being brought to the hostel, many for
the first time, and then having their hair cut and being made to wear uniforms. They are described as
all looking the same, like porcupines and china dolls. Part two holds the majority of the novel. Here
much seems to happen at once and yet somehow still drags in places. The children from the school

Concepts In Organizational Behavior Essay
Organizational behavior is the study of the many factors that have an impact on how people and
groups act, think, feel, and respond to work and organizations and how organizations respond to
their environments. (George & Jones, 2005) Organizational behavior is particularly important to
managers, who are responsible for supervising the activities of one of more employees. A manager
has four principal functions or duties of management. These include; the process of planning,
organizing and leading an organizations human, financial, material, and others resources to increase
its effectiveness. (George & Jones, 2005) Planning involves establishing the organizations strategy

(Clawson, 2005) Every employee at Aberdeen is assigned to a team. A team leader is chosen by the
team from among volunteers. Team leaders are an important part of team organization. One
Aberdeen team leader describes the role in this way; "Team leaders facilitate. If there is a problem,
you don't solve it, you get the team together in a meeting to solve it. Success is the team's
responsibility, not the team leaders. One thing that works against this process is when people just
don't want that responsibility and withhold from involving themselves." (Clawson, 2005) FMC
Aberdeen is working under the principle of self–managed teams. This type of management could
also be utilized by the FMC Green River facility. Self –managed teams are groups of employees

Major Challenges of Organizational Management
MAJOR CHALLENGES OF ORGANIZATIONAL MANAGEMENT
There are a number of differences between FMC 's Aberdeen and Green River, the two facilities of
discussion. One may assume, therefore, that managerial styles, business practices, and other aspects
of business and the employees involved, would be very different from one another. On the other
hand, it is quite possible to use very similar styles of doing business and managing a company,
despite differences in the company, as a good style of managing, and good practices would assist
any business in succeeding. Management, employees and productivity being the main focus 's at
hand, one may first want to review these differences between the two facilities. To begin with, the

Good communication between all management levels and employees is also necessary in keeping
any business running efficiently. Again, seeing as how the Aberdeen facility has already established
these practices, and has them running smoothly, they need only to maintain them and increase
innovation with the times.
If I were to use an analogy to describe these two types of managerial styles, I would state that the
original style of managing was like a pyramid, and this new style of managing was a linked chain.
The pyramid is dependent on all of its ' members, but there is a definite sense of superiority, as the
higher management levels shrink down in numbers, but tower over all else. This pyramid, upon
producing positive results, is viewed by others as having produced them due to the excellence of the
peak of the pyramid, with very little or no recognition at the bottom of said pyramid. The linked
chain on the other hand, though still managed with upper and lower levels, reacts more as a team,
giving those involved more recognition for their accomplishments. People who are recognized as
such, and appreciated for their individual strengths, may be more likely to utilize these strengths and
feel that they are a part of the company, rather than a pawn of the company. There is something very
positive to be said for this type of thinking, if everyone on the Earth felt

The Ethics Of The National Society Of Professional Engineers
The first fundamental canon of the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) Code of
Ethics states that engineers "hold paramount the safety, health, and welfare of the public." The
American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) takes it a step further by amending the NSPE
canon and adding that chemical engineers "protect the environment in performance of their
professional duties." These ethical standards were placed in order to prevent contaminations to

Aberdeen's Influence on Kurt Cobain Essay
Aberdeen's Influence on Kurt Cobain
The towns of Hoquiam and Aberdeen are located on the eastern edge of Grays Harbor in western
Washington state. If you are a fan of the band Nirvana, you have probably heard of these names. If
not, you are about to read how a town affected a person who in turn affected many people's lives.
Kurt Cobain was the singer and guitarist for Nirvana. He was born in Hoquiam (population 9,000)
and after six months of life moved to Aberdeen (pop. 16,500), an old lumber town at the eastern–
most point of Grays Harbor. The town is about four miles wide and three miles long. On the
northern and eastern sides of town are steep hills where the richer families live in Victorian–style

The town also became the end of a railroad line because of the lumber companies. Prostitution
prospered with as many as fifty whorehouses in the downtown area. Prostitution was around until
the late fifties when the police finally ended it. (Azerrad 12) The "lumber boom" slacked off a few
years ago as "the economy fell and available lands were depleted." Now people are worried that the
Northwestern logging industry will not be able to recover and Aberdeen "is marked for a slow ugly
death." (Gilmore 44)
According to Kenn Oberrecht, Aberdeen's name is from a city in Scotland. The name is Gaelic and
means "the meeting of two rivers." Aberdeen, in case you do not know, is at the joining of the
Chehalis and Wishkah rivers. It is about one hundred miles south west of Seattle and 48 miles west
southwest of Olympia. (164) The first sawmill was built in 1884 and the shipbuilding industry
prospered until the 1920's.
If there is a single attractive thing about Aberdeen, it would be the 98 square miles of surrounding
estuaries, tidelands, and marshes that attract shorebirds by the hundreds of thousands. They come
every April and May to rest and feed for the long trip north to their arctic and subarctic nesting
areas. (165)

Cull On Seagull
Should there be a Cull on Seagulls?
I despise seagulls. Out of all the birds that we see lots of in our lives why does it have to be the most
noisy, disruptive, ugly birds that populate our city? Wouldn't it be better if we had beautiful, little
birds that call with adorable little tweets? Quite frankly, seagulls make the town we live in
unwelcoming. With their booming squawks, troublesome rebellious lifestyles and aggressive
behaviour; I think that we would do a lot better without them.
People say that it gives you good luck to have a bird poop on you, but it is the complete opposite in
my opinion. How lucky must one be to have stinky, gooey gunk on their body? Seagulls, being the
creatures that they are, just let their load drop whenever they feel the need: landing on cars,
buildings, nature and also our washing hanging outside. I remember a particularly wonderful
memory when I was walking down the street and a seagull pooped right on the spot where my cheek
and hair meet. Which made it much more convenient that I was out with my friends, so I had to ask
the nearby shop owners for a tissue to clean it with. It would be so very pleasant to have one day
looking at the clear blue sky, rather than the flock of gulls flying above me.
Seagulls tend to enjoy hanging out at the beach. You could just be having a nice meal at a cafe with
your family, but see them at the next table robbing food. How ridiculous! They did not pay for the

how and why do we students choose to study and take part in the few that we do? What is it that

motivation that have been identified to drive a person's choice, these are; direction: a person's goal,

Risk Management Module Of The Msc Project Management...
1 Executive Summary
1.1 Purpose and Scope
This assignment is included in the 2014 session of the Risk Management module of the MSc in
Project Management course at University of Aberdeen. The main purpose of the assignment is to
demonstrate my understanding of the issues involved in Risk Management and how they are applied
in my current Project environment. The assignment is split in to two questions as detailed below.
Question 1a
Explain the difference between qualitative and quantitative risk management and how each method
can be used to manage a project. Describe one method of each.
Question 1b
Discuss the risk management process presented in the course text (Page 8 of session 1). Apply it to a
specific risk present in your own workplace and pay particular attention to any secondary risks that
may be introduced.
1.2 Methods and Approach
In addition to reading the course notes, I also looked at what APMBOK (Association for Project
Management, Body of Knowledge 2009, 6th Edition, UK) said about this critical area of Project
Management. Additionally, I researched what my Company does to maximize their effectiveness in
this area by studying their attitude towards Risk Management throughout the complete life–cycle of
a project, and finally I drew from my own knowledge and experiences in this critical area.
1.3 Conclusions

Lady Aberdeen: An Influential Role Model
Lifestyle is fairly different today than it was in the late 1800s and early 1900s. The great
changemakers in our world are what helped improve the lifestyle of people today. One of the
greatest change makers of Canada is Lady Aberdeen. She is a visionary that changed the way people
think of women and how they should be treated. Originally named Ishbel Marie Marjoribanks, Lady
Aberdeen achieved so much including changing the way people treat other people, inspiring young
women and being the founder of several women's rights organizations. Every changemaker became
a changemaker either because someone influenced them or something happened to them that made
them want to make a change in the world. For Lady Aberdeen, her father did not want her to go to
college or university, but to make her social debut and get married. Lady Aberdeen did not approve
of this, so she went to Queen's University. She did not want other young women to experience what
she did. Lady Aberdeen's target was to let women have the freedom to their life, learn what they
want to learn and have the choice to get married or have a family. The purpose of her goal was to
change the mindset of people who believed that women were only good to be housewives and not to
work and support themselves. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lady Aberdeen earned an honorary degree from Queen's University in 1897. She became the first
woman in Canada to have achieved such a prestigious degree. Prior to achieving her degree, she
honoured her father's wishes by getting married to John Campbell Hamilton–Gordon. Lady
Aberdeen also became the first woman to make a speech in the House of Commons in 1898. Her
actions have inspired women today to stand up for their rights and fight for what they believe

Essay On Sports Narrative

  • 1. Essay on Sports Narrative Tyler Douglas Professor Thamm Eng 101–10:00 a.m. Due: Sep. 29, 2008 Essay #1 Narrative A major role in my life would definitely be sports. It is almost as if I look up to sports because I could not live without them. Sports pretty much define me as me. I love to play sports as well as watch all kinds of sports on T.V. and if I could ever go to a game and watch the players play live I would be thrilled. Basically sports define me because I am ambitious, I finish what I start, I set goals for myself, and I am a fierce competitor in which I love to win and I hate to lose. The greatest part about sports to me is living for the moment when the game is on the line and the pressure is on can you come through and make a play for your ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With the game tied 6–6 that is when I went into my own little zone and was in my moment. The crowed was electrified and cheering us on. I thought about all the hard work the coaches put us through doing two a days and keeping us late after a hard practice, spending all of that time and hard work just for this one little moment when the game was on the line. Back to reality our quarterback had started the play and it looked like it was going nowhere and we might have to got into overtime. Then after about 6 crazy seconds he threw the ball to our halfback and he broke a couple tackles and the somehow stretched across the goal line by about 2 inches and we had taken the lead 8–6 with 52 seconds to go. When the game clock hit 00:00 for the first time in our schools history the football team had beaten Aberdeen and none of us could believe it. This was a special moment. Now, it was in this moment when I had realized that sports define me as me because we never gave up, none of us wanted to lose, we set a goal and completed it, but most important we kept our eye on the prize and came through in the moment when the game was on the line. Nobody is going to remember how many games we won or who the best player on the team was that season, but I guarantee what people will remember is when we had beaten Aberdeen for the first time in school ... • 3. High School Persuasive Research Paper Everybody will age, mature and enter the real world. It can be nerve–racking and people feel tossed into the new world with no skills or training. Now with raising concerns that school may not prepare you for real life as hoped, students incriminate Aberdeen. Aberdeen School District doesn't hold a position in the "top ten" of education programs in America. Should the blame be thrust back upon them? With a reputation like ours and the lack of money for education, the district does the best with what they have. Our high school gives us many options concerning our future. A school, no matter how much money they have, cannot find time in the day to discover your interests, act upon them, and set up your classes accordingly. However everyone can find some interesting extracurricular activities. If a student digs agriculture, join FFA. If students play an instrument or have a killer voice, we have a great ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They do this through a program called Running Start. All high schoolers can take online APEX classes to catch up if they have failed a class. We have AP classes if a student tests bright enough. This district has an alternative high school if a student falls too far behind. However there should be more, like mandatory life skills. The district, however, does not make our standards and requirements, but they are blamed none the less. We envision school as a place to prepare for the future. We see no conceivable point in radicals and exponents at this age. The most asked question is "When will we use this in real life?" Learning, on the other hand, may not always be about what a child learns. The process of problem solving, thinking through ideas and coming up with new ideas has worked for years. Where else would new inventions and jobs come from? It may help students to realize every lesson has a purpose, however ridiculous it may seem at ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Aberdeen Central High School Weightroom Observation Millions of students across the nation spend countless mornings and late nights in the weight room trying to achieve something greater. Weight rooms, much like the one I grew to know here in Aberdeen, are the beginning to so many dreams coming true. The bright lights and loud music invite you into a place of team building and hard work. In the weight room at Aberdeen Central High School, the comforting sound of weights hitting the floor became home. I looked to the records on the wall with fondness, motivating me to learn what hard work was and how to be patient in letting it pay off. The black floors and eagles on the platforms will be engrained into my brain forever; blood, sweat and all. Seeing the face of that powerful bird made me proud ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Kurt Cobain Tragic Hero Essay Kurt Cobain once said, "Drugs are a waste of time. They destroy your memory and your self–respect and everything that goes along with your self–esteem. They're no good at all." Kurt Donald Cobain was born on February 20, 1967, in Aberdeen, Washington and died on April 5, 1994, in Seattle, Washington. Even though, Cobain lived a short life he is still considered a tragic hero. According to Dictionary.com, a tragic hero is defined as, "a great or virtuous character in a dramatic tragedy who is destined for downfall, suffering, or defeat." While Kurt Cobain is not a character from a dramatic tragedy, his choice of drugs and suicide lead to his suffering throughout life. At an early age, Cobain had an interest in art and music. One moment that had a profound effect on his life; however, was when his parents divorced when he was nine years old. After the divorce his behavior changed, he started becoming more rebellious. His father promised that he wouldn't marry anyone again. However, he went on to marry Jenny Westeby soon afterward. Cobain started to become depressed after witnessing his mom being abused by her boyfriend. Since Cobain's behavior did not change after his father was granted custody, he was sent to live with a family friend. Living with a family friend, Jesse Reed, helped Kurt Cobain become a devoted Christian, who started regularly attending church services. His father wanted him to join sports, such as wrestling and little league baseball. Cobain, however, would intentionally fail at these things in order to make his father sad and to get out of playing (Kurt Cobain Biography). • 11. How To Infect Salmon At first when I started college, I was on the path to become a biologist. I wanted to get more experience in the field, so I asked my advisor, Doctor Amanda Gunn, if there was had any opportunities for me to get hands–on experience in my field. She said she was studying Aeromonas Salmonicida, a bacterium that causes diseases in salmon. She wanted me to use bioinformatics tools to learn about its ability to infect salmon. The goal was to determine if certain aspects of the bacterium could be modified or "genetically engineered" so the salmon's immune system would be able to respond more efficiently. This lead me down the path of bioengineering, a field of study where genetic material is altered for certain characteristics. After completing the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I go to church on Saturday and while I am not out with my age group every week, I'm with a people who are at least a decade older or younger than me. Some of these people don't get to talk people to people much so it's fun listening to their stories and fun having someone to listen to them. People like military members, outdoorsman, and engineers. I also heard about the experience of being homeless. Aberdeen gets very rainy and cold at night, so not having a place to stay is awful. The rain from that isn't drained gets all over the sidewalk and whoever has to walk there for just 10 minutes gets their shoes soggy and moist. Imagine walking around all day and sleeping all night in that! Being homeless also means it harder to afford find food. Hearing these stories from people I talked to every week made me want to do something about it. I ran for ASB of my high school and became the Senior Class President. I used my position to organize foodball, an event where two cities compete to raise the most resources for the Coastal Harvest. That is a food storage facility that donates to food banks across the State of Washington in times of emergency. The year I was running it the two cities competing were Hoquiam and Aberdeen. Even though the name was foodball, it wasn't just food we were collecting. It was also money to donate to and help raise resources for food banks, like socks, shoes, and shirts. I cleaned up after the events, dressed up as a mascot and danced to raise money for several events. I was even able to run an intercity dodgeball game. A game which Aberdeen won. Although Aberdeen didn't beat Hoquiam in the end, we managed to beat the amount of food raised last year. After foodball ended, I decided I wanted to do more. I became a deacon at my church and several times a month I help run the P.A., fix broken things around the church with my dad, and count and collect offering. Throughout the last decade, they have been engaging the local community in a multitude of exhibitions, performances, and educational activities. As the fibers need to be fed again and again, the mandala motifs arise shyly to the surface. The traditional method of making mandalas through the patient and repetitive movement of the hand dropping sand on a surface is mirrored in Nicole's approach to constructing her mandalas, with an evident connection to meditation. The Road To Hell Essay In the dead of night, caked in icy mud and blood from the abrasions of the brambles in the mire passed the Fluted Vale; Aberdeen escaped in the cover of darkness in scantly a stitch of clothing stark against her rice flower white skin. She removed leeches from her body with numb fingers and slight pain and annoyance as the chill of the cold ground permeated her tired cold bones in a place just past pure exhaustion. Her heart raced with a sluggish gurgle in her heart and she could feel it in her ears as she saw her breath in plumes of steam in the waning moonlight. She put enough space between her and the blood hounds of Karth 's farm and bounty hunters to catch up with her thoughts. The flashes of her intimate interactions with Urakiel spasmed in her mind recalling the exhilaration of finally attaining a taste of who she 'd always longed for but the sadness also of his gaunt state. That he was duty bound instead of taking her passionately in love. That he was still bound to that Bitch of a wife of his who set him out to torture her in the first place by the taste of what she could not have and what she could not keep. Aberdeen 's tireless efforts resulted in her arrival of just outside Brighamsdale just south of Swine–hall. "Should I steal a nag from the Swine–hall Stables, or get to the Bunkhouse and try to address Mister Martin? If I cause any commotion Karth might find me and I can 't have that. • 17. Should Fast Food Be Banned In Aberdeen? Imagine watching television and a commercial comes up with the Mayor of the City of Aberdeen Bill Simpson. The Mayor is announcing to all the city that all fast food restaurants in Aberdeen will be banned. Everyone in the council agrees. McDonald's, Dairy Queen, Burger King, Jack in the Box, and many more "delicious" fast food restaurants will be banned in all Aberdeen. Fast food restaurants should be banned. One reason why Fast Food should be banned in the city of Aberdeen is it causes obesity. For example, in the article of Fast Food, "Is It the Enemy?" it explains that 33.8% of the U.S. population is affected by obesity. Also, in the article of "is it the enemy", it also explains that the Burger king whopper has too much stuff than it already is in. Specifically, the Burger king whopper has 670 calories and 40g of fat. Finally, why fast food causes obesity is that also the sodas can cause obesity, for instance, Major Michael R. Bloomberg went last week in a case to ban supersized sodas and sugary drinks. It's not just the hamburgers, it is also the sodas that cause obesity. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, when ten Eastern European states joined the European Union in 2004 and 2007, and many new migrants arrived, it became a challenge to an academic world to investigate this new phenomenon. Palmerston made several attempts to rectify the imbalance of acknowledgment in British–Chinese relations. Palmerston's first effort was in sending Lord William John Napier, a family friend of his, to attempt to expand trade in China and to enter into discourse on equal terms. Napier was to do this without offending the Chinese, but by acting as an envoy of the King of England on equal footing, and not as an inferior. After the negotiation led by Napier failed disastrously due to the two sides disagreeing on etiquette, Napier was forced to evacuate the country. Following Napier's failure, Palmerston sent Captain Charles Elliot, another friend of his, to attempt the same changes that Lord Napier had attempted. Elliot, however, eventually got into an altercation with the Chinese as well ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 60. Analysis Of Porcupines And China Dolls By Robert Arthur... In Porcupines and China Dolls , Robert Arthur Alexie writes of hard hitting, serious issues that Aboriginal communities across Canada face but that are rarely spoken of. Alexie writes with blunt honestly aimed at an older audience who understand the frank discussions of alcoholism, domestic violence and sex, both consensual and not and the consequences they have on both individuals and the community. While the pace lags at the beginning, it does successfully build the bleak world of the novel and the people who reside in it. Hard hitting topics, some of which are more fleshed out than others by the end, will leave the reader thinking and wondering about the everyday challenges the victims of residential schools face. Porcupines and China Dolls is set in the small Aboriginal community of Aberdeen, in the Northwest Territories at the turn of the millennium. The book has three sections: Part One is the brief history of the Blue People who lived in the area where the novel takes place and how their children were put in residential schools (or hostels) for generations. It then introduces us to the main characters of the novel as children being brought to the hostel, many for the first time, and then having their hair cut and being made to wear uniforms. They are described as all looking the same, like porcupines and china dolls. Part two holds the majority of the novel. Here much seems to happen at once and yet somehow still drags in places. The children from the school are now ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 62. Pearl Harbor Short Story "Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, December 7, 1941," I said to the news reporter. "I remember it like the back of my hand, it was the day I had to choose an enemy over an American." "Why on God's green earth would you ever have to do that?" asked the American news reporter. "I took an oath to serve and protect all," I replied with dignity. "Amy we need you to come to work," my neighbor –who is also a nurse– yelled at 6:05 a.m. "It's an emergency!" As soon as I heard that, I dropped my coffee and newspaper, grabbed my emergency kit and ran out the door. On my way to work the traffic was horrible. Finally, after explaining to me how we had been bombed by the Japanese and that Japan had hit the ammunition stores, the hospital sent me out to work ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Too many I didn't know who to help first. So, I decided to get into a lifeboat and scope out the people who were in the worst condition and help them first. Immediately, I ran along a guy with a broken arm and some gashes. Then, I looked a little more only to find a man having a hard time staying afloat. All of a sudden, I saw out of the corner of my eye a man on his stomach, floating, with little movement left in his body. So, I yelled out to him, "Sir, are you okay?" He did not answer. Immediately I became worried. I decided since he didn't answer I should pull him onto my boat and see what he's got going on. I speedily pulled him over the edge of my boat and out of the water. Then, as I was looking at his injuries and how I could help fix them I saw the japanese symbol on the sleeve of his right arm. This man was a Pearl Harbor bomber, I thought to myself. Although, he was in such bad condition If I didn't take care of him he would perish. I also knew, that no hospital would help him and if they did help him, they would make him be helped last so he would die before being helped. • 64. Concepts In Organizational Behavior Essay Organizational behavior is the study of the many factors that have an impact on how people and groups act, think, feel, and respond to work and organizations and how organizations respond to their environments. (George & Jones, 2005) Organizational behavior is particularly important to managers, who are responsible for supervising the activities of one of more employees. A manager has four principal functions or duties of management. These include; the process of planning, organizing and leading an organizations human, financial, material, and others resources to increase its effectiveness. (Clawson, 2005) Every employee at Aberdeen is assigned to a team. A team leader is chosen by the team from among volunteers. Team leaders are an important part of team organization. One Aberdeen team leader describes the role in this way; "Team leaders facilitate. If there is a problem, you don't solve it, you get the team together in a meeting to solve it. Success is the team's responsibility, not the team leaders. One thing that works against this process is when people just don't want that responsibility and withhold from involving themselves." (Clawson, 2005) FMC Aberdeen is working under the principle of self–managed teams. This type of management could also be utilized by the FMC Green River facility. Self –managed teams are groups of employees who are given the authority and responsibility to manage many different aspects of their own organizational behavior. (George & Jones, 2005) Despite the large number of workers employed by Green River this concept could still be useful as the number of teams would simply be increased. Organizational Commitment Organizational commitment relates to feelings and beliefs about the employing organization as a whole. Affective commitment exists when employees are happy to be members of an organization, believe in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 66. Major Challenges of Organizational Management MAJOR CHALLENGES OF ORGANIZATIONAL MANAGEMENT There are a number of differences between FMC 's Aberdeen and Green River, the two facilities of discussion. One may assume, therefore, that managerial styles, business practices, and other aspects of business and the employees involved, would be very different from one another. On the other hand, it is quite possible to use very similar styles of doing business and managing a company, despite differences in the company, as a good style of managing, and good practices would assist any business in succeeding. Management, employees and productivity being the main focus 's at hand, one may first want to review these differences between the two facilities. To begin with, the facility in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Good communication between all management levels and employees is also necessary in keeping any business running efficiently. Again, seeing as how the Aberdeen facility has already established these practices, and has them running smoothly, they need only to maintain them and increase innovation with the times. If I were to use an analogy to describe these two types of managerial styles, I would state that the original style of managing was like a pyramid, and this new style of managing was a linked chain. The pyramid is dependent on all of its ' members, but there is a definite sense of superiority, as the higher management levels shrink down in numbers, but tower over all else. This pyramid, upon producing positive results, is viewed by others as having produced them due to the excellence of the peak of the pyramid, with very little or no recognition at the bottom of said pyramid. The linked chain on the other hand, though still managed with upper and lower levels, reacts more as a team, giving those involved more recognition for their accomplishments. People who are recognized as such, and appreciated for their individual strengths, may be more likely to utilize these strengths and feel that they are a part of the company, rather than a pawn of the company. There is something very positive to be said for this type of thinking, if everyone on the Earth felt ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 68. The Ethics Of The National Society Of Professional Engineers The first fundamental canon of the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) Code of Ethics states that engineers "hold paramount the safety, health, and welfare of the public." The American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) takes it a step further by amending the NSPE canon and adding that chemical engineers "protect the environment in performance of their professional duties." These ethical standards were placed in order to prevent contaminations to maintain a healthy work environment, and prevent the general public and environment from being harmed. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In September of 1985 a large scandal arose when improper care and neglect of a small acid leak waste led to a total of 200 gallons of acid waste flowing into a creek, which merged into a much larger river. Immediate investigation discovered that much of their toxic disposal equipment was corroded, no attempt was made for clean–ups despite the law stating that the army would pay for it, and a culture of following the status–quo and isolating the APG from society. Despite the responsibility that the Army had, due to constitutional barriers, was left alone and instead the Justice Department went after three top level chemical engineering managers Carl Gepp, William Dee, and Robert Lentz. They argued that they had never had any other large chemical accident, their job description did not include a responsibility for caring for the environment, and that they could not be charged for improper waste disposal as they had a different view on what waste was. Despite facing up to fifteen years in prison and a $750,000 fine each, the three engineers only received three years of probation and 1000 hours of community service since they had already paid major fines of which the Army could not pay. • 70. Aberdeen's Influence on Kurt Cobain Essay Aberdeen's Influence on Kurt Cobain The towns of Hoquiam and Aberdeen are located on the eastern edge of Grays Harbor in western Washington state. If you are a fan of the band Nirvana, you have probably heard of these names. If not, you are about to read how a town affected a person who in turn affected many people's lives. Kurt Cobain was the singer and guitarist for Nirvana. He was born in Hoquiam (population 9,000) and after six months of life moved to Aberdeen (pop. 16,500), an old lumber town at the eastern– most point of Grays Harbor. The town is about four miles wide and three miles long. On the northern and eastern sides of town are steep hills where the richer families live in Victorian–style houses. At the foot of the ... Prostitution prospered with as many as fifty whorehouses in the downtown area. Prostitution was around until the late fifties when the police finally ended it. (Azerrad 12) The "lumber boom" slacked off a few years ago as "the economy fell and available lands were depleted." Now people are worried that the Northwestern logging industry will not be able to recover and Aberdeen "is marked for a slow ugly death." (Gilmore 44) According to Kenn Oberrecht, Aberdeen's name is from a city in Scotland. The name is Gaelic and means "the meeting of two rivers." Aberdeen, in case you do not know, is at the joining of the Chehalis and Wishkah rivers. It is about one hundred miles south west of Seattle and 48 miles west southwest of Olympia. (164) The first sawmill was built in 1884 and the shipbuilding industry prospered until the 1920's. If there is a single attractive thing about Aberdeen, it would be the 98 square miles of surrounding estuaries, tidelands, and marshes that attract shorebirds by the hundreds of thousands. They come every April and May to rest and feed for the long trip north to their arctic and subarctic nesting areas. (165) Suicide is unusually high in Aberdeen. • 72. Cull On Seagull Should there be a Cull on Seagulls? I despise seagulls. Out of all the birds that we see lots of in our lives why does it have to be the most noisy, disruptive, ugly birds that populate our city? Wouldn't it be better if we had beautiful, little birds that call with adorable little tweets? Quite frankly, seagulls make the town we live in unwelcoming. With their booming squawks, troublesome rebellious lifestyles and aggressive behaviour; I think that we would do a lot better without them. People say that it gives you good luck to have a bird poop on you, but it is the complete opposite in my opinion. How lucky must one be to have stinky, gooey gunk on their body? Seagulls, being the creatures that they are, just let their load drop whenever they feel the need: landing on cars, buildings, nature and also our washing hanging outside. I remember a particularly wonderful memory when I was walking down the street and a seagull pooped right on the spot where my cheek and hair meet. Which made it much more convenient that I was out with my friends, so I had to ask the nearby shop owners for a tissue to clean it with. It would be so very pleasant to have one day looking at the clear blue sky, rather than the flock of gulls flying above me. Seagulls tend to enjoy hanging out at the beach. You could just be having a nice meal at a cafe with your family, but see them at the next table robbing food. How ridiculous! They did not pay for the food and we don't want them interrupting us ... Motivation Theory And The University Of Aberdeen The University of Aberdeen offers an array of subjects, societies and sport clubs as well as employment and volunteering opportunities to its students. With this massive range of activities, how and why do we students choose to study and take part in the few that we do? What is it that motivates us to commit to our decisions? Motivation can be described as the 'internal and external factors that stimulate desire and energy in people to be continually interested and committed to a job, role or subject, or to make an effort to attain a goal'1. There are three main components of motivation that have been identified to drive a person's choice, these are; direction: a person's goal, effort: the energy used to achieve a goal, and duration: the persistence in pursuing a goal2. Is it possible to use a motivation theory or theories to understand the choices we make at the University of Aberdeen? Before we begin university we have already dedicated ourselves to our major subject, that we already have an understanding for, which is a commitment for a minimum of four years. From an undergraduate's perspective, this is an intimidating yet exciting step to adulthood as it is probably one of the longest commitments we have ever had to make that influences our future. For each and every one of us, the reasons for why we selected the subject that we did will vary. • 78. Lady Aberdeen: An Influential Role Model Lifestyle is fairly different today than it was in the late 1800s and early 1900s. The great changemakers in our world are what helped improve the lifestyle of people today. One of the greatest change makers of Canada is Lady Aberdeen. She is a visionary that changed the way people think of women and how they should be treated. Originally named Ishbel Marie Marjoribanks, Lady Aberdeen achieved so much including changing the way people treat other people, inspiring young women and being the founder of several women's rights organizations. Every changemaker became a changemaker either because someone influenced them or something happened to them that made them want to make a change in the world. For Lady Aberdeen, her father did not want her to go to college or university, but to make her social debut and get married. Lady Aberdeen did not approve of this, so she went to Queen's University. She did not want other young women to experience what she did. Lady Aberdeen's target was to let women have the freedom to their life, learn what they want to learn and have the choice to get married or have a family. The purpose of her goal was to change the mindset of people who believed that women were only good to be housewives and not to work and support themselves. ...
