The Cleveland Clinic
The purpose of this paper is to discuss my hospital system, The Cleveland Clinic s, organizational
quality department, structure, and programs. Health care reform, accountability, quality care, and
patient safety have become the foundation of a reliable hospital system (Huber, 2014). This paper
will answer several questions regarding the organizational quality program at my hospital, including
managementstructure, improvement projects, staff involvement, techniques utilized, staff
communication, and evaluation of quality effectiveness. I will also provide two examples of a
Quality Improvement (QI) initiative that has been successful in my organization.

As described above, part of the evaluation includes many computer programs to collect and track
data for analysis. Audits from QI projects are uploaded into the EBI portal monthly. Reports are
sent to project managers to evaluate and then communicate with nursing leaders. This
communication provides whether the QI activity is successful or not. In the case that it is not
successful, the nurse manager can meet with staff members to discuss the report and obtain input
on how to improve the process. Input from the nursing staff can support further exploration of
possible interventions to improve indicated processes (Stausmire Ulrich,

Classical Liberalism V.S. Reform Liberalism on the issue of Wealth Redistribution and Income
Classical Liberalism is against government interventionism in all realms of life. They believe that
everyone should be treated equally regardless of income. This differs from reform liberalism, as
they want government intervention to guarantee equality of opportunity. This is made possible by
progressive income tax, government regulation on big business, and social welfare. In My opinion
Classical Liberalism is superior as its fair and easier to implement than reform Liberalism.

The Classical Liberalist, would oppose any regulation on the economy. As they believe that those
who are able to make money based on the principle of supply and demand already have helped the
welfare of other in the process. Classical Liberalist s understand inequality as an inevitable result
of free competition, and actually see it as beneficial in the long run as capital is reinvested, to
create new technology, employment and opportunities. If this capital were to be taxed heavily
instead, many opportunities and jobs would be lost further adding to the inequality of wealth and
opportunity for the poor.
The biggest difference s between the set s of ideologies is that Reform Liberalism believes in
equality of opportunity, and that it is ethical to reduce the freedom for some if it means increasing
it for others. Classical Liberalist s believe that the invisible hand will regulate the economy and that
any wealth redistribution to the poor would harm them in the long run. They believe that everyone
should be completely in control of their own destiny. I think that Classical Liberalism is the
superior theory as it sticks to very simple principles, and it hold everyone responsible for their
actions.

Endoscopic Imaging Study
Abstract Intraductal Mucinous Neoplasms and Mucinous Cyst Neoplasms are two distinct entities
used in categorizing non inflammatory cystic lesions of the pancreas. Utilization of the
International Consensus Guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of IPMN and MCN assist
physicians in the management of these cystic lesions while proving the highest quality of care.
Introduction Intraductal Papillary Mucinous Neoplasms (IPMN) are tumors that grow within the
pancreatic duct that produce thick fluid. This tumor can be classified as main duct IPMN or
branch duct IPMN. The classification between main duct IPMN and branch duct IPMN are based
on imaging studies as well as histology. In imaging studies some cysts at times display involvement

CT or MRI is recommended for cysts larger than 1 cm in order to be categorized for high risk
stigmata. An MRI is typically more detailed than CT and will illustrate the cystic nature of the
pancreatic lesion as well as the internal structure of the cyst. Follow up MRI images will reveal
any changes in the cystic lesion as well as any abnormalities. The patient charts and radiologic
images will advise the physician in the status of the cyst in addition to changes in symptoms being
experienced by the patient. Pancreatic cysts that present high risk stigmata should be considered
for resection if patient is medically fit for surgery. The surgical pathology specifies their diagnosis
post operation. While monitoring patients in the Cyst Surveillance Program, the EUS specifies cyst
diameter and findings. Depending on the condition of the cyst and if they show any worrisome
features, 6 months or yearly follow ups are necessary.

Short Answer
Using the information from your textbook and classroom discussion, prepare a minimum of 200
word response to the following questions:
1.To what extent did the Era of Reconstruction create a New South?
On December 8, 1863, approximately 16 months before the North defeated the South in the Civil
War, Lincoln issued a proclamation that laid out his vision of Reconstruction. For example, laws
were passed requiring Southern states to adopt new constitutions in conformity with the U.S.
Constitution, and to ratify the 14th Amendment and grant blacks the right to vote. This was a
drastic change because before the reconstruction era African Americans were slaves and were not
allowed to vote. The South entire society was impacted by the Era of Reconstruction from the way
they lived to how they made a living. The Reconstruction Era implemented various changes to the
South as for as the workforce with a great emphasis on cash crops the majority of the crops grown
in the South were being imported. African Americans also were giving the right to actively
participate in the government. A Rise of Merchants stores in the south sprang up around plantations
to sell supplies on credit which allowed them to build a clientele and make money.

Senkaku Islands Controversy
Every day the world is dealing with issues that come and go or issues that have existed and was
never properly dealt with. The information we obtain is always presented to us through a
plethora of sources on a daily basis. Sometimes the source of our information is biased and other
times it is neutral. What is more important is how the knowledge is relayed to us and how we
consume it. The media may influence how we consume information based on how they word the
topic at hand. In light of recent controversies there is an issue in the Pacific over claims of the
Senkaku Islandsor as the Chinese refer to as the Diaoyu Islands. This altercation is mainly between
Japan and China, however the United States has a role in this predicament.

U.S. in 1971, under the Okinawa reversion deal, after they renounced the claims of the Islands

military bases, and potential oil/gas reserves.
The media has covered this issue again and again for years now. Both countries have their
arguments on why the islands belong to them, but the media still presents us information
differently. When a person looks at news media outside of the Western hemisphere, such as the
Japan Times or Shanghai Daily, it is possible to see the difference in opinion based on the
presentation of the subject matter. The media presents and manipulates the information that is

Persuasive Effect On Plastic Surgery
Everyone at one point thinks about going under the knife, there was an 80% increase in the number
of girls 18 and younger receiving genital plastic surgery, according to the American Society for
Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (Simmons, 2016,para.3). Male and female teens, form ranges thirteen to
nineteen years of age, have thought or actually had done a plastic surgeryon their bodies. Even
though this procedure is overpriced and the recovery time takes long, at the end many patients
believe that the outcome is worth it since they perceive themselves more beautiful. Plastic surgery
has been getting popular among teens because is helping them raise their self esteem, lowering
their depression rate, and enhancing their beauty.
Many girls have low self esteem during their teen years when they start to grow into their
imperfect bodies . Most girls start comparing and contrasting their bodies with other girls, so they
start developing the thoughts of cosmetic procedures to maintain a high self esteem. Sweeney
(2009) argues that teens are seeking plastic surgery to look normal and feel like a woman . Even
though most teen girls are not fully developed, they are eager to do some cosmetic procedures on
themselves. Kristen of River Edge, N.J. said that she has been wanting breast implants since she
started puberty. She felt uneven and unattractive because she grew curves but her breast did not
grow along. Once she had the procedure done she felt like a woman and her self esteem

The Need to Update and Revolutionize The Church
It was difficult for me to get past the first page of reading Willimon s The Pastor as Preacher. The
first sentence which struck me was most of those who are under authority refuse to treat preachers
as their instructors. These words hit me squarely in the face, because I have been struggling with
my current endeavors for my supervised ministry
The one great preacher...is the Church. I agree vehemently with this statement. This is why when
I drive pass the Church day, after day, seeing no activity going on. No cars, no influx of people
coming in and out of the doors. No pastor there on standby for any lonely, lost soul who is looking
for solace within the confines of the Church doors. I become more and more disenchanted with the
Church. The ideas I am trying to implement and initiate are often meet with great dissention from
the people. They think fish fry s and car washes are ministry. They struggle with treating me as
instructor, someone there to help teach them. I have never been so conflicted in my life. I want to
see the Church grow. I want to see the Church standing in the community as the greatest
pontificator of the Gospel, yet it lies dormant. It lies like a sleeping giant who is yet to understand
the true power it possess. I think my greatest opposition stems from the fact the previous pastor
was an idealist. He had great ideas and a great vision for the Church. The new pastor, a well
grounded and well respected figure in our denomination, seems

of Spec 20 was taught. The spectrophotometer instrument was used to measure the amount of light
that passes through a solution. Beer Lambert law was applied to determine the concentration of
гЂ–CuгЂ—^(2+) in an unknown solution. Serial dilution technique was used to prepare a less

percent transmittance (%T) and absorbance for the 0.500 M, 0.200 M, and 0.050 M CuSO4
standard solutions was measured using the calibrated Spec 20. To create the calibration curve for
гЂ–CuгЂ—^(2+) solutions, the absorbance values versus the concentration or molarity were
plotted.
In Part 3: Preparing Copper (II) solutions of Different Concentrations , 20.0 mL of a 0.500 M

mL beaker. About 15 mL of water was added to the same beaker. The mixture was transferred
back and forth between the graduated cylinder and a beaker to dissolve all the crystals. The
solution was transferred back to the graduated cylinder. The beaker was rinsed well with a small
amount of distilled water and the rinsed solution was transferred to the same cylinder containing the
dissolved solid. After adding the solution, the total volume in the cylinder was about less than 20
mL. With the use of the Pasteur pipette, the water was added until the volume in the cylinder was

To create the homogeneous solution, the mixture was transferred back and forth between the
beaker and the graduated cylinder. After the solution was mixed well, small amount of solution was
put into the test tube. The test tube was placed into the chamber of the Spec 20 to measure the
percent transmittance.

ABC System Used by United Parcel Service (UPS) Essay

An organization costing system is a system that helps the management with the strategy planning

Data must be collected, verified and entered into the system. ABC does not conform to GAAP so a

very easily misinterpreted, decision making entails identifying which costing data is relevant for
decisions on hand.
UPS system is based on traditional ABC in that it takes detailed functional cost and maps it to the
products based on the activities that the products drive (ups.com). UPS is a cross functional
discipline, in that it identifies activities within a function or process, measures the cost associated
with the activity and then assigns the cost to a product. UPS responded to technology, the market
and changing times by developing new business strategies to focus on customer needs. The new
change in the business environment demands the organizations to gather the relevant data and
information about the customers, costs, procedures, services, products and activities (Danish,

operations are extremely complex with a wide variety of service options, operating conditions and

Managing Library Education Managing for change is just as controversial in library schools as it is
in corporations. The advances in technology over the past decades have forced library schools to

Thomas Childers of Drexel (1998) had little sympathy for educators bemoaning the demise of the

be able to compete in what he called the hard information systems area.Cronin, Stiffler, and Day

I chose to critique the peer reviewed publication A Quantitative Correlational Study on the Impact
of Patient Satisfaction on a Rural Hospital. There are various reasons why I chose this article. I am
an agency nurse and work at various different emergency departments around Middle Tennessee.
Most of them are concerned about patient satisfaction scores and are frequently called into
meetings regarding these scores. Staff at most of these hospitals can be called to the carpet as you

The sample involved 25 months of historical satisfaction survey mean scores and revenue

Examples Of Irony In The Landlady
Roald Dahl s realistic fiction story The Landlady takes place at a BED AND BREAKFAST in
Bath, London. Billy Weaver is trying to find a place to stay for a bit and he finds a Bed and
Breakfast. He meets the landlady, he finds her kind of strange but doesn t think much of her. By
using irony and personification he creates a lesson about trust it is earned, not given.
Trust can impact the rest of someone s life; whether they are a liar or they always tell the truth,
one little thing can change everything. One example of this is when Billy gets his tea, he
smells a peculiar smell. Dahl writes. Now and again, he caught a whiff of a peculiar smell that
seemed to emanate directly from her person. . . Pickled walnuts? New leather? Or was it the
corridors of a hospital? There is no such thing as pickled walnut tea. What he is smelling is
cyanide, a type of poison. This is significant because Billy is using his sensory ... Show more

him feel safe but in reality it isn t safe at all. Irony isn t the only way Dahl shows that trust is not

Malic Acid Vs Inorganic Acid
An organic compound with acidic properties is called an organic acid. An inorganic acid or
mineral acid is an acid derived from one or more inorganic compounds. The reason that organic
acids are weaker than mineral acids is that organic acids do not separate completely in water,
whereas strong mineral acidsdo separate completely in water. Organic acids do not react with
metals. Harsh mineral acids on the other hand react forcefully with metals. Inorganic acids are
derived from inorganic compounds and mineral sources, while organic acids have a biological
origin. Mineral acids do not contain carbon and organic acids do contain carbon. Uric acidis an
example of mineral acids. Uric acid is soluble in water and is a hetero cyclic compound which is
composed of the elements: carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, and hydrogen. A real world example in
which uric acid is used is that uric and ascorbic acid in the human body provide over half of the
antioxidant capacity in the bloodstream which means it is very important in our lives. Oxalic
acid is another example of an inorganic acid. Oxalic acid is a colorless crystalline solid that
dissolves in water and gives a colorless solution. A real world application of oxalic acid is cleaning
and bleaching agent, and is very effective in removing rust.
Malic acid is a dicarboxylic acid that is made by all living organisms. It has a clean, mellow,
smooth, persistent sourness, so it can be used to enhance flavor and blending abilities. It
contributes to the sour taste of fruits and can also be used as a food additive. It is used for
alcoholic apple ciders to maintain a sharp taste. In wines, the malolactic fermentation improves
the flavor of the wine. It is also used in acne creams and moisturizers to remove dead skin cells
and remove acne. Citric acid has a sour taste and is greatly present in fruits such as oranges. It is
also a popular ingredient in most types of candy, especially in sour candies. It is a weak organic
acid and is used as a safe cleaning product. Formic acid is a colorless liquid with a highly pungent,
penetrating odor at room temperature. Interestingly, it can be found in the venom of ants. Lactic
acid is a well known acid. It is produced from pyruvate via the enzyme

The Role Of Choices In Ayn Rand s Anthem
Having choices can sometime leave a negative result that could affect others. Because of some
individuals who could have caused problems for society,or because of strict individuals working
for the government, choices are sometimes limited to the privileged. But it can cause problems
for individuals who need the ability to make their own choices for their own sake. In the novella
Anthem by Ayn Rand,a dystopia takes place in a futuristic era. It is long after a worldwide
apocalypse. They are taught that having their life is a privilege. We are nothing. Mankind is all.
By the grace of our brother we are allowed our lives. It is one of the many rules that their society
follows. In the novella Anthem by Ayn Rand, the hero is different from everyone in his society. He
is able to think for himself, not being under the control of the government frightens people;as they
see him as rebellious. By the end of his journey through self discoveries and countless trials,he

at the joy in their children?s eye and a memory is forever etched as they walk out the store and
the child begins to sing ?I Don?t Want to Grow Up, I?m A Toys ?R? Us Kid.? This magical
place for children was established in 1948 by Charles Lazarus in Washington, D.C, with the
name Children?s Bargain. His vision at the time was to ?provide a baby furniture store for the
post war baby boom era.? (History, 2015) Satisfying the customer was his number one obligation
as he introduced infant products and toys for children of different ages based on customer
demands. After 10 years, Lazarus followed the supermarket model for the store. While opening his
second store he settled on the name which all kids love to hear Toys ?R? Us. From there he
established community roots, loyalty from his customers, and introduced the iconic mascot
Geoffrey. This company has not stopped growing and bringing kid?s smiles and fun sense that day.
How this company came to be requires an intense look into its organizational structure through the
eyes of Bolman and Deal (2013) and the instrumental strategy of SWOT (strength, weakness,

Analysis Of Agatha Christie s Murder On The Orient Express
After reading all evidence in Agatha Christie s Murder on the Orient Express, I strongly believe
that Hector MacQueen murdered Samuel Edward Ratchett on the Orient Express for various
reasons. All evidence points to Hector MacQueen where he stabbed his boss twelve different
times all over his body. Hector MacQueen was Ratchett s secretary for over a year where Ratchett
offered him a job while they met in Persia. To start off, MacQueen tells Hercule Poirotin his
interrogation, the detective of the case, that he did not like nor trust his employer at all. The first
point of evidence that points to MacQueen was that MacQueen remotely thinks that Ratchett was
murdered once he was told that his Ratchett was dead, So they got him after all (Christie 49). Right
after he said that I think Poirot got him quickly off guard. The second point of evidence that points
to MacQueen as the murderer is the story of the murderof Daisy Armstrong. In chapter four, the
readers learn that Samuel Edward Ratchett was not his real name. His real name is Cassetti, the
lead of the gang that killed Daisy Armstrong. To flee America to avoid being arrested, Cassetti left
the United States and changed his name to Ratchett. You must be wondering, what does this have
to do with MacQueen? The readers learn in the second interrogation of MacQueen that MacQueen
s dad was the district attorney of the Armstrong case. To go along with MaQueen said, If ever a
man deserved what he got, Ratchett or

Quiet Tidal Respiration
Respiration for speech is much different than quiet breathing. Quiet breathing, known as quiet
tidal respiration, because it can be visualized as a tidal flow of air into and out of lungs. It
involves about 500mL of air with each cycle (Seikel, Drumright, King, 2016). For instance the
volume inspired is greater, since more air is needed for utterances that are lengthy and or loud. In
order to increase your volume, additional muscles are needed to assist the diaphragm and intercostal
muscles to elevate the sternum and the ribs in order to increase the volume in the thoracic cavity

Torque, elasticity, and gravity acting on the ribs and rib cage are the passive forces for
expiration. It may also be forced, utilizing muscles of the abdomen and those that depress the rib
cage to evacuate the lungs (Seikel, Drumright, King, 2016). Since volume and pressure are
inversely related, pressure increases within the lungs and the thoracic cavity causing the air to
move out (Borden, K.S., Raphael, 1994). Expiration for speech is an active process, where
expiration for life occurs when passive forces cause inspiratory muscles to relax. In this process
there are three distinct stages that occur. First stage is where the muscles of inspiration, the
external intercostal, and diaphragm remain active to provide a braking force. These particular
muscles prevent the lungs from collapsing Nicole Bougie: Nicole Bougie: Nicole Bougie: quickly

Catcher in the Rye Archetypal Analysis
INTRODUCTION Jerome David Salinger s The Catcher in the Rye, is a work of fiction and a
tragic comedy. It is an interesting and controversial novel. Though controversial, the novel
appealed to a great number of people. It was a hugely popular bestseller and general critical
success. I chose this novel because of the negative status it has with parents, teachers, and school.
I wanted to discover what the roots of this controversy are. The main character, Holden
Caulfield, tells about his life before and after he was kicked out from Pencey Prep. The novel was
told in first person through the eyes of the narrator, Holden. He recalls the events as a series of
flashbacks placing the setting of the story in his mind. I... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Maybe Holden s alienation is the cause of most of his pains. Just like the character in the movie,
The Good Girl , wherein Tom Worther is a loner like Holden. Holden s loneliness was a more
concrete manifestation of his alienation. It is both a source of great pain and a source if his
security. And so, Holden left school planning to spend some time on his own in New York City,
where he lives. On the train to New York, Holden meets a mother of his fellow Pencey student.
Though he thinks that this student is a complete bastard , he tells a woman made up stories
about her son. He lied to the woman. But lying to others is also a kind of phoniness, right? A
type of deception that indicates insensitivity or even cruelty. Holden proves that he is just guilty
of phoniness as the people he criticizes. The Road of Trials When Holden arrives New York, he
tried to call several people but for various reasons he decided against it. Holden doesn t seem to
know what to do in New York since he is three days earlier as expected by his parents. So he rode
a cab and he asked the cab driver where the ducks in Central Park go when the lagoon freezes, but
his question annoys the driver. He turned around and looked at me like I was a madman What re
ya tryna do, bud? He said. Kid me? This quotation is Holden s conversation with the cab driver. I
think Holden is being prejudged by the driver. Holden only want to know where the ducks go and
he is just interested to

The Wage Is The Minimum Wage
Sammer hassan
Mr. S
English 9
6/5/16
The minimum wage is the minimum hourly wage an employer can pay an employee for work.
Currently, the federal minimum wage is $7.25 an hour (part of the Fair Labor Standards Act) and
some states and cities have raised their minimum wage even higher than that. minimum wage was
first introduced during the great depression in 1930s. Before it was introduced thousands of
people were forced to work in horrible conditions for pennies a week. Early attempts on
minimum wage was ruled unconstitutional by the U.S supreme court, because it restricted
people from deciding what they wanted to pay their workers. So employers still made there
workers, work in horrible condition through the great depression. Now that poverty is a huge
national issue. President Franklin D. Roosevelt made sure he would protect workers it was part
of his mission as the president of the united states of america. After being reelected in 1936 he
signed the FLSA in 1938. Which put into place a national minimum wage of 25 cents an hour.
After the law was passed the minimum wage was changed almost every couple of years because
the cost of living is very high. In 1997 bill clinton allowed states to make there own minimum wage.
Today the minimum wage is 7.25/hour there is continuing debate over whether that s a fair amount
of money to support someone there days. Labor activists want the government to raise it while other

Effects Of Xenia In The Iliad
Xenia is an obligatory, socially regulated hospitality shown to suppliants and strangers by god
fearing hosts. This notion can be broken into two aspects: conduct and food and libations. When
welcomed in to a residence, hosts are expected to treat a guest respectfully and amicably this then
transitions to the food and libations portion of xenia. This facet revolves less on entertainment,
but rather is symbolic of a host opening their home as a place for a suppliant to rest and find
asylum from the woes of travel. It is the recipient s responsibility to treat the host with respect, as
they are visitors. I assert that xenia has a direct effect on a relationship and its ensuing trajectory
because respect is the foundation of xenia; these effects can be seen throughout The Iliadand The

Spoils were an important part of war during the time of The Iliad, and could be items of value or

Agamemnon refused (Homer The Iliad 1.24 32). Agamemnon s refusal itself did not violate

Essay On Social Construction Of Race
Society plays a major role in classifying people race, ethnicity, and social treatment. The
definition of race can be put into two categories biological and sociological factors. Race is an
ideology that people use to describe the physical and genetic makeup of an individual. A person
racial construction greatly impacts an individual s identity. This is look as the person skin color,
facial bone structure, eyes, and hair color. Although, there is no basis confirm these ideas, racehas
been used to determine a person s health and character. In terms of the sociological factors that
defines race is ethnicity. It is the cultural aspect of a group of people this include their values,
traditions, and position in society. The public laws and policies is what determines an individual s
standing in society. The biological and social factors both work equally to define race.

The War Of New Orleans Essay
by Donald Hickey body_americanperspective_warof1812_2.jpg The War of 1812 is probably our
most obscure conflict. Although a great deal has been written about the war, the average
American is only vaguely aware of why we fought or who the enemy was. Even those who know
something about the contest are likely to remember only a few dramatic moments, such as the
writing of The Star Spangled Banner, the burning of the nation s capital, or the Battle of New
Orleans. Why is this war so obscure? One reason is that no great president is associated with the
conflict. Although his enemies called it Mr. Madison s War, James Madison was shy and
deferential, hardly measuring up to such war leaders as Abraham Lincoln, Woodrow Wilson, or
Franklin Roosevelt. Moreover, the best American generals in this war Andrew Jackson, Jacob
Brown, and Winfield Scott were unable to turn the tide because each was confined to a one or two
theaters in a war that had seven or eight theaters. No one like George Washington, Ulysses Grant, or
Dwight Eisenhower emerged to put his stamp on the war and to carry the nation to victory. Another
reason for the obscurity of this war is that its causes are complex and little understood today. Most
scholars agree that the war was fought over maritime issues, particularly the Orders in Council,
which restricted American trade with the European Continent, and impressment, which was the
Royal Navy s practice of removing seamen from American

Introduction Of Open General Licensing

The Night Of The Living Dead
The true origins of zombies and the undead can likely be traced back to the stories men and women
first told around campfires. They certainly date back to the origins of written language in tales such
as the epic of Gilgamesh, and have taken on many different attributes through the generations. The
shambling creatures that were first displayed in the movie titled The Night of the Living Deadare
what many would consider today to be the typical representation of the modern zombiestory (Estes,
2012).
The zombies in the story Meathouse Man by George R. R. Martin do not follow this trend. They are
throwbacks to, and futuristic interpretations of, the Hattian zombie that is often acknowledged to
be the modern origin of today s zombie mythology.

Pierce Barham, a black teen has a bit of a different view on it than Jarred and other black people do.
Pierce states that nigger does not really affect me, because I view it as just a word. It means idiot or
stupid and I know that I m neither one of those. I call my friends nigga and nigger just jokingly, but
most black people would be pissed if I said that to them. He goes on to say that I refer to any
ignorant person as a nigger, regardless of color. I call anyone nigga if they are my friend regardless

Engaged Couple Advertising
Businesses and brands constantly advertise and market towards newly engaged couples. The age
of newly engaged couples tends to be in their 20s. The engagement period is usually around 14
months. These couples will now have a double income with no children, which allows them quite
a bit of freedom. These people will most likely have their parents or family members pay for a big
portion of their weddingsupplies. This allows brands to market to the bride and grooms parent s
through multiple sources, such as Facebook with targeted messaging. Typically, most couples get
engaged between the months of November through February because of Christmas, New Years, and
Valentines Day. Many companies will market towards couples during these months, for... Show

This is a big step in life that the couple takes together. The couple will have plenty of thinking and
decision making when deciding where and if they should buy or rent. Some of the things they
will have to think about is their careers, income, if they plan on moving soon, and if they plan on
having a family sometime in the near future. Most likely they will end up renting an apartment
for their first time living space. Renting lets them save money and will allow them to move
easily in the future if they choose to. An apartment is a good choice for two people because of
the small size. Along with somewhere to live, they will also be needing furniture. Some of the
smaller furniture might be taken care of by wedding gifts. Many couples will look in catalogs
and on the internet to get ideas and possibly even buy their furniture. They will most likely also
look in discount stores, such as IKEA, to find cheap and used furniture. As they move on in their
lives and get a better income, they will buy new furniture and most likely sell their old used
furniture or possibly move it down to the

The Cisgender Casting In Tomboy
The cisgender casting in Ma vie en rose and Tomboy confirmed thoughts and feelings that I have
long felt about youth when they are trying to figure their gender identity out. Dealing with a
delicate subject matter, the film portrays the 10 year old Laure (ZoГ© HГ©ran) telling her
summer playmates she is a boyfor the summer while her father and heavily pregnant mother
relocate with Laure and her six year old sister, Jeanne, to an apartment block in an ex urban
environment. The directness, honesty and tone of innocence in the film is heartwarming and
depicts the unsureness youth have at that age when trying to figure out who they are. Tomboy
shows the comfort for which Laure, in the identity of new kid on the block Michael, whose hair cut

Listening To Sounds Analysis
Upon finishing listening to what was my first podcast ever, it did not necessarily change my
thoughts about noise of modern life. This is because I am and have always been an appreciator
of the simple things in life. For example, I am the type of person who will sit in an airport and
just think about the fact that in this one place where there are a multiple number of people, each
of them has their own life. Each of these lives are being carried out all at the same time, and each
of those lives are filled with different experiences, different losses, different gains, they have each
had a vulnerable moment and a moment where they were filled with love and more importantly
each of them has their own story. Each of these people have their own... Show more content on

The best thing about the noise in our society is that although there is a negative effect in situations
of the ability to listen to personal music, there is also a positive side which encompasses the
same thing. The reason that most of us listen to our own music is not only possibly a sub
conscious effort to seclude ourselves from other around us, but also because we want to please
ourselves by listening to sounds or music we like. Therefore, one example of how noise in our
society promotes communication would be when a group of strangers are somewhere and here the
new Taylor Swift song that they all love, they catch themselves singing and dancing to it,
simultaneously noticing the others doing the same which breaks that barrier of being strangers by
making them realize they have something in common. This later leads to them speaking to each
other and possibly beginning a relationship. Similarly, from a more fundamental perspective sounds
as simple as someone chopping wood outside, singing in the shower in the morning, or the sound of
a jump rope hitting the pavement as little kids play, all play in the role of promoting
communication; all you have to do is listen for

My Passion For Animal Rights
Do you know what you re passionate about? I think having a strong sense of passion comes
naturally. What really matters is how you channel your passion and what you use it for. With
passion, we can change the world for the better. One thing I know will never change about me is
my passion for animal rights. Since a very young age I can remember having a passion for animal
rights. It came naturally to me. It began with a love for my pets. My family has had pets in the
house ever since I was born. Cats and dogs became my best friends growing up. When my sister
was fifteen she began getting into animal rights. If it wasn t for her, I wouldn t have been as
involved as I was at a young age. When I was seven years old I remember her giving me a

The Pros And Cons Of Terranoid Newspapers
Are we streaming yet? I ask.
No, not yet. An impatient purple skinned, bipedal foreigner walks to reach a chair from my right
side to sit down next to me. A pile of thin, white sheets of paper appear in the snap of her finger.
Why prepare an interview for two hours when it s going to take up ten minutes of air time?
My patience has its limits, but this is a bit too far. From testing the lighting, to asking me to
wear makeup to cover any abnormalities , these people are too perfectionist for their own good.
StarX TV isn t a popular channel, a controversial one at that for it s far right political propaganda.
The only reason why I am here is because I m allegedly one of the very few Terranoid races that
live around the star system. I didn t do my research on this news channel: this is my punishment.

What Was The Fall Of The Soviet Union
Fall of Soviet Union
In December of 1991, the Soviet Union separated into fifteen distinctive countries. Its collapse was
enthusiastically greeted by the west as a triumph for freedom. This is a victory of democracy over
totalitarianism. The US celebrated as its dreadful enemy defeated, thereafter ending the Cold War,
which had fought between two superpowers, America and Soviet Union, since the end of World
War II. Cory Booker says, If you look at great human civilizations, from the Roman Empire to the
Soviet Union, you will see that most do not fail simply due to external threats but because of
internal weakness, corruption, or a failure to manifest the values and ideals they espouse . In reality,

Eventually, the planning of Communism, which the Soviet sought to instill in its population, never
established, and eventually all the influence it had originally carried vanished.
By the time of the 1985, Mikhail Gorbachev take over control of Soviet Union. He was the
Soviet Union s last leader. This split the scientific community up into factions and promoted
conflict. It permitted him to intervene and take sides whenever deemed necessary (Martin
McCauley. The Rise and Fall of the Soviet Union). The country was in a state of serious
inactivity, with severe economic and political dispute, which were required to be fix and
conquered. Knowing this deep in mind, Gorbachev initiated a policy of reform. First ,he
proposed a policy of freedom of speech. Next, he started a plan of economic reform known as
perestroika, rebuilding. However, Gorbachev did not noticed that by offering people complete
freedom of speech, he was unintentionally released emotions and political feelings that had been
hold up for decades. Also, it seemed to be exceedingly powerful when brought out into the open.
Moreover, his policy of economic reform did not have the obvious results he had anticipated for
and had publicly conjectured. The Soviet people eventually utilized their recently granted freedom
of speech to criticize Gorbachev for his deficiency to boost the economy.
The decentralization of the Soviet Union began on the border,

April Morning Howard Fast Quotes
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be in the middle of the start of a war? This
book takes place just before the beginning of the Revolutionary war in Lexington, Massachusetts.
The Reverend is the minister to the people who live there and is a dynamic character as well as
one of the main protagonists. War has an effect on everyone involved, and usually brings out
sides of people we do not normally see. In the book April Morning by Howard Fast, this is
evident in the Reverend s character before conflict, during conflict, and after the conflict.
Throughout the book, you can see changes in the Reverend. From the beginning, it is obvious
that he is both a leader to the townspeople, and that he is a peaceful man. The main example of
him being a leader comes right before the British arrive at Lexington. In the book, the people
gathered and elected him as their spokesperson to the soldiers (Fast 90). The people usually turn to
their leaders in times of need much like we do today, and in this example that leader... Show more

Towards the end of the book the Reverend states, We are a town of sorrow and tragedy and it
happened too quickly (Fast 198). This quote explains how he feels about the conflict after it is
over. The way he describes the town shows that he feels sorrow for all the losses. The Reverend,
although sad, still carries on his duties and remains a caring man. An example of his
characteristic as a caring man occurs when he agrees to use the candles Adam s mother had
delivered to him in order to help her cope with the tragedies that had occurred (Fast 198) This
shows that even when he had been through so much himself, he was still looking after others.
These are the last traits we observe the Reverend having and it becomes clear that while he
remains the same man, the war had changed his mood, and some of his views of the

Critical Response Essay
On the surface the films Beauty and the Beast and The Little Mermaid have little in common.
However, while the setting, plot, characters, conflict, and theme may be dissimilar the overriding
message is the same: women lose sight of their own interests in favor of being with or taking care
of a man. At the beginning of both Beauty and the Beast and The Little Mermaid Belle and Ariel
are ambitious and looking for more than their homelife has to offer. Ariel is curious about her
surroundings, brave, interested in adventures and finding new things, willing to fight for what she
wants, and independent. She wants to go up to the surface in order to see the people who make the

In The Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast
Ariel and Belle both transformed from intellectually curious and ambitious people into girls who
only cared about being with a prince or caring for the men in their lives. Sadly, nothing else
mattered to them.

There is a disagreement between two parties at Bainbridge Borough. The employee (Carol Fern)
has been employed with the company for 18 years as a tax clerk. Carol and her spouse decided
to adopt a child after finding out that she couldn t naturally give birth to a child. An agency
informed the Ferns on April 22 that a 3 month old baby girl would be available for adoption in
three days. Since it was such short notice, the adoption was postponed until May 2. The
company granted Carol s request for two weeks paid vacation for the dates of May 2 to May 17.
Before Carol returned to work from the paid vacation, she put in another request for 6 months of
unpaid maternity leave, of course this had to be approved by the Council. However, the... Show

According to the collective bargaining agreement, Mrs. Fern is entitled to maternity leave. Despite
some of the policies with Bainbridge Borough, there is pertinent information in the contract that
does not restrict maternity leave to employees who become pregnant. Some of the policies have
listed childbirth leave, which is not found in the contract. I made my ruling based on this the
term maternity is not limited to mean only giving birth to a child. Raising a child is including in
the term maternity. In raising a child, the adoption of a child requires the same attention as baby
to its birth mother. The early stage of child rearing of an adopted child is just as important to
form a bond for both the baby and adopted mother. My ruling in the request for grievance for Carol

Vibrio Fischeri Is A Bacterium That Served As The Model...
Vibrio fischeri is a Gram negative bacterium that served as the model organism in this experiment.
We isolated only the luxAB portion of the entire lux operon and inserted it into the pGEM vector
plasmid to transcribe the luciferase enzyme required for bioluminescence. Within the lux operon,
luxAB is responsible for producing subunits that form luciferase, which oxidizes the aldehyde made
by luxCDE into the reduced flavin mononucleotide FMNH2 and results in the production of light
known as bioluminescence[6]. The luxI genethat is also present on the operon produces the
autoinducer which interacts with a regulator, LuxR, [and] activates transcription of the lux operon
at high cell density to induce bioluminescence[4]. This interaction between the products of luxI and
luxR is known as quorum sensing and serves as an evolutionary purpose in the symbiotic
relationship with Euprymna scolopes, a type of squid that contains the light organ where the bacteria
resides[6].
In the first portion of the experiment, Vibrio fischeri chromosomal DNA was isolated by lysing the
bacterial membranes and removing the proteins and lipids. Addition of a lysozyme solution
breaks down the peptidoglycan layer in Gram negative bacteria and proteinase K/SDS degrades
the proteins and disrupt the membranes. Liquid liquid extraction using Tris buffered phenol
permits separation of proteins and lipids from the DNA into the organic layer. It is also essential
that the isolated DNA is pure and free of

Juvenile Crime Theories
Although juvenile crime tends to go unrecognized, it is a major issue in America and happens to
go unrecognized. There once was a time when society did not place emphasis on the special needs
of juveniles. In most cases children were taking on adult roles to help their families survived, which
caused them to struggle with identifying themselves in society. They were also subject to the same
consequences that adults received when they did something that was considered morally wrong,
forcing them to grow up before their time. There are multiple theories that are used when
considering the consequences for an adult offender. However, I personally feel that we should not
use the same theories for juvenile crimeunless the crime committed is a Mala In Se Crime, which is
considered wrong and inherently evil immoral.Studies have shown that our brains continue to
develop into our twenties, which confirms that the thought process that a child and an adult goes
through is completely different. A juvenile is not mentally of physically developed enough to
handle the severe consequences that an adult can. Just because someone makes... Show more

While serving his time he was often beaten by the guards and locked in his cell for long periods
throughout the day. When he was released from prison he was completely traumatized. He would
lock himself in his bedroom for long periods of time and feared being around large groups of

Essay about The Effects of Consumerism on Adults and Children
The Effects of Consumerism on Adults and Children
Businesses are creatively successful when designing a persuasive advertisement for increased
profitability. The most popular ways of broadcasting a product are through radio, internet,
billboards, newspapers, and television being the most effective. Many adults watch TV and they are
usually the ones with the paycheck, so commercials are aimed toward them. On the other hand, it
takes less than a strategic mind targeting children because they are fascinated by the simplest
things. For years businesses have been perfecting commercials. Although marketing has had an
impact on some adults, a more efficient route was discovered. That was by publicizing through the
vulnerable minds of children. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By 1890 people became information consumers who were ready for commercial radio in 1920,
followed by commercial television in the 1950 s (20 22). However, because commercial
broadcasting requires advertisers money to stay afloat, news stories were shortened to run quickly.
It seems like the majority of what people watched was advertisement television. Despite the
overwhelming displays of marketing, years ago the only effect television caused, was society trying
to imitate people who appeared to be confident (24). Presently, the effects of consumerism are to
blame for the change in most of society s outlook on life.
Learning America has the highest rate of consumerism is the most profound information I heard, in
August 2009 (Chase). Mr. Chase, our Science teacher, also informed us that other developing
countries have the ability to increase families without financial resources. This is because they have
been accustomed to surviving with what they have. They don t spend money on the better things in
life or materialistic items as some do in the United States. In this commercialized society customers
appetite for consumer goods is satisfied through products mostly made of non renewable resources.
Chase added how, unfortunately, humans consume excessive amounts of natural resources that are
available to us; thus, gradually destroying the environment. Today the planet isn t the only thing
being destroyed from mass consumerism;

Reform Liberalism on the issue of Wealth Redistribution and Income Classical Liberalism is against government interventionism in all realms of life. They believe that everyone should be treated equally regardless of income. This differs from reform liberalism, as they want government intervention to guarantee equality of opportunity. This is made possible by progressive income tax, government regulation on big business, and social welfare. Classical Liberalist s understand inequality as an inevitable result of free competition, and actually see it as beneficial in the long run as capital is reinvested, to create new technology, employment and opportunities. If this capital were to be taxed heavily instead, many opportunities and jobs would be lost further adding to the inequality of wealth and opportunity for the poor. The biggest difference s between the set s of ideologies is that Reform Liberalism believes in equality of opportunity, and that it is ethical to reduce the freedom for some if it means increasing it for others. Classical Liberalist s believe that the invisible hand will regulate the economy and that any wealth redistribution to the poor would harm them in the long run. They believe that everyone should be completely in control of their own destiny. I think that Classical Liberalism is the superior theory as it sticks to very simple principles, and it hold everyone responsible for their actions. 3 Sources Dickerson, Mark, Thomas Flanagan, and O Neill Brenda. • 21. Malic Acid Vs Inorganic Acid An organic compound with acidic properties is called an organic acid. An inorganic acid or mineral acid is an acid derived from one or more inorganic compounds. The reason that organic acids are weaker than mineral acids is that organic acids do not separate completely in water, whereas strong mineral acidsdo separate completely in water. Organic acids do not react with metals. Harsh mineral acids on the other hand react forcefully with metals. Inorganic acids are derived from inorganic compounds and mineral sources, while organic acids have a biological origin. Mineral acids do not contain carbon and organic acids do contain carbon. Uric acidis an example of mineral acids. Uric acid is soluble in water and is a hetero cyclic compound which is composed of the elements: carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, and hydrogen. A real world example in which uric acid is used is that uric and ascorbic acid in the human body provide over half of the antioxidant capacity in the bloodstream which means it is very important in our lives. Oxalic acid is another example of an inorganic acid. Oxalic acid is a colorless crystalline solid that dissolves in water and gives a colorless solution. A real world application of oxalic acid is cleaning and bleaching agent, and is very effective in removing rust. Malic acid is a dicarboxylic acid that is made by all living organisms. It has a clean, mellow, smooth, persistent sourness, so it can be used to enhance flavor and blending abilities. It contributes to the sour taste of fruits and can also be used as a food additive. It is used for alcoholic apple ciders to maintain a sharp taste. In wines, the malolactic fermentation improves the flavor of the wine. It is also used in acne creams and moisturizers to remove dead skin cells and remove acne. Citric acid has a sour taste and is greatly present in fruits such as oranges. Analysis Of Agatha Christie s Murder On The Orient Express After reading all evidence in Agatha Christie s Murder on the Orient Express, I strongly believe that Hector MacQueen murdered Samuel Edward Ratchett on the Orient Express for various reasons. All evidence points to Hector MacQueen where he stabbed his boss twelve different times all over his body. Hector MacQueen was Ratchett s secretary for over a year where Ratchett offered him a job while they met in Persia. To start off, MacQueen tells Hercule Poirotin his interrogation, the detective of the case, that he did not like nor trust his employer at all. The first point of evidence that points to MacQueen was that MacQueen remotely thinks that Ratchett was murdered once he was told that his Ratchett was dead, So they got him after all (Christie 49). Right after he said that I think Poirot got him quickly off guard. The second point of evidence that points to MacQueen as the murderer is the story of the murderof Daisy Armstrong. In chapter four, the readers learn that Samuel Edward Ratchett was not his real name. His real name is Cassetti, the lead of the gang that killed Daisy Armstrong. To flee America to avoid being arrested, Cassetti left the United States and changed his name to Ratchett. You must be wondering, what does this have to do with MacQueen? • 32. The Wage Is The Minimum Wage Sammer hassan Mr. S English 9 6/5/16 The minimum wage is the minimum hourly wage an employer can pay an employee for work. Currently, the federal minimum wage is $7.25 an hour (part of the Fair Labor Standards Act) and some states and cities have raised their minimum wage even higher than that. minimum wage was first introduced during the great depression in 1930s. Before it was introduced thousands of people were forced to work in horrible conditions for pennies a week. Early attempts on minimum wage was ruled unconstitutional by the U.S supreme court, because it restricted people from deciding what they wanted to pay their workers. So employers still made there workers, work in horrible condition through the great depression. Now that poverty is a huge national issue. President Franklin D. Roosevelt made sure he would protect workers it was part of his mission as the president of the united states of america. After being reelected in 1936 he signed the FLSA in 1938. Which put into place a national minimum wage of 25 cents an hour. After the law was passed the minimum wage was changed almost every couple of years because the cost of living is very high. In 1997 bill clinton allowed states to make there own minimum wage. This facet revolves less on entertainment, but rather is symbolic of a host opening their home as a place for a suppliant to rest and find asylum from the woes of travel. • 37. The War Of New Orleans Essay by Donald Hickey body_americanperspective_warof1812_2.jpg The War of 1812 is probably our most obscure conflict. Although a great deal has been written about the war, the average American is only vaguely aware of why we fought or who the enemy was. Even those who know something about the contest are likely to remember only a few dramatic moments, such as the writing of The Star Spangled Banner, the burning of the nation s capital, or the Battle of New Orleans. Why is this war so obscure? One reason is that no great president is associated with the conflict. Although his enemies called it Mr. Madison s War, James Madison was shy and deferential, hardly measuring up to such war leaders as Abraham Lincoln, Woodrow Wilson, or Franklin Roosevelt. Moreover, the best American generals in this war Andrew Jackson, Jacob Brown, and Winfield Scott were unable to turn the tide because each was confined to a one or two theaters in a war that had seven or eight theaters. No one like George Washington, Ulysses Grant, or Dwight Eisenhower emerged to put his stamp on the war and to carry the nation to victory. Another reason for the obscurity of this war is that its causes are complex and little understood today. Most scholars agree that the war was fought over maritime issues, particularly the Orders in Council, which restricted American trade with the European Continent, and impressment, which was the Royal Navy s practice of removing seamen from American ... Each of these lives are being carried out all at the same time, and each of those lives are filled with different experiences, different losses, different gains, they have each had a vulnerable moment and a moment where they were filled with love and more importantly each of them has their own story. Each of these people have their own... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The best thing about the noise in our society is that although there is a negative effect in situations of the ability to listen to personal music, there is also a positive side which encompasses the same thing. The reason that most of us listen to our own music is not only possibly a sub conscious effort to seclude ourselves from other around us, but also because we want to please ourselves by listening to sounds or music we like. Therefore, one example of how noise in our society promotes communication would be when a group of strangers are somewhere and here the new Taylor Swift song that they all love, they catch themselves singing and dancing to it, simultaneously noticing the others doing the same which breaks that barrier of being strangers by making them realize they have something in common. This later leads to them speaking to each other and possibly beginning a relationship. Similarly, from a more fundamental perspective sounds as simple as someone chopping wood outside, singing in the shower in the morning, or the sound of a jump rope hitting the pavement as little kids play, all play in the role of promoting communication; all you have to do is listen for ... Its collapse was enthusiastically greeted by the west as a triumph for freedom. This is a victory of democracy over totalitarianism. The US celebrated as its dreadful enemy defeated, thereafter ending the Cold War, which had fought between two superpowers, America and Soviet Union, since the end of World War II. Cory Booker says, If you look at great human civilizations, from the Roman Empire to the Soviet Union, you will see that most do not fail simply due to external threats but because of internal weakness, corruption, or a failure to manifest the values and ideals they espouse . By the time of the 1985, Mikhail Gorbachev take over control of Soviet Union. He was the Soviet Union s last leader. This split the scientific community up into factions and promoted conflict. It permitted him to intervene and take sides whenever deemed necessary (Martin McCauley. The Rise and Fall of the Soviet Union). The country was in a state of serious inactivity, with severe economic and political dispute, which were required to be fix and conquered. Knowing this deep in mind, Gorbachev initiated a policy of reform. First ,he proposed a policy of freedom of speech. Next, he started a plan of economic reform known as perestroika, rebuilding. However, Gorbachev did not noticed that by offering people complete freedom of speech, he was unintentionally released emotions and political feelings that had been hold up for decades. Also, it seemed to be exceedingly powerful when brought out into the open. Moreover, his policy of economic reform did not have the obvious results he had anticipated for and had publicly conjectured. The Soviet people eventually utilized their recently granted freedom of speech to criticize Gorbachev for his deficiency to boost the economy. • 48. April Morning Howard Fast Quotes Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be in the middle of the start of a war? This book takes place just before the beginning of the Revolutionary war in Lexington, Massachusetts. The Reverend is the minister to the people who live there and is a dynamic character as well as one of the main protagonists. War has an effect on everyone involved, and usually brings out sides of people we do not normally see. In the book April Morning by Howard Fast, this is evident in the Reverend s character before conflict, during conflict, and after the conflict. Throughout the book, you can see changes in the Reverend. From the beginning, it is obvious that he is both a leader to the townspeople, and that he is a peaceful man. The main example of him being a leader comes right before the British arrive at Lexington. In the book, the people gathered and elected him as their spokesperson to the soldiers (Fast 90). The people usually turn to their leaders in times of need much like we do today, and in this example that leader... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Towards the end of the book the Reverend states, We are a town of sorrow and tragedy and it happened too quickly (Fast 198). This quote explains how he feels about the conflict after it is over. The way he describes the town shows that he feels sorrow for all the losses. The Reverend, although sad, still carries on his duties and remains a caring man. An example of his characteristic as a caring man occurs when he agrees to use the candles Adam s mother had delivered to him in order to help her cope with the tragedies that had occurred (Fast 198) This shows that even when he had been through so much himself, he was still looking after others. These are the last traits we observe the Reverend having and it becomes clear that while he remains the same man, the war had changed his mood, and some of his views of the ... Felicia Severy WS 325 Critical Response Essay On the surface the films Beauty and the Beast and The Little Mermaid have little in common. However, while the setting, plot, characters, conflict, and theme may be dissimilar the overriding message is the same: women lose sight of their own interests in favor of being with or taking care of a man. At the beginning of both Beauty and the Beast and The Little Mermaid Belle and Ariel are ambitious and looking for more than their homelife has to offer. Ariel is curious about her surroundings, brave, interested in adventures and finding new things, willing to fight for what she wants, and independent. Carol and her spouse decided to adopt a child after finding out that she couldn t naturally give birth to a child. An agency informed the Ferns on April 22 that a 3 month old baby girl would be available for adoption in three days. Since it was such short notice, the adoption was postponed until May 2. The company granted Carol s request for two weeks paid vacation for the dates of May 2 to May 17. Despite some of the policies with Bainbridge Borough, there is pertinent information in the contract that does not restrict maternity leave to employees who become pregnant. Raising a child is including in the term maternity. In raising a child, the adoption of a child requires the same attention as baby to its birth mother. The early stage of child rearing of an adopted child is just as important to form a bond for both the baby and adopted mother. • 51. Vibrio Fischeri Is A Bacterium That Served As The Model... Vibrio fischeri is a Gram negative bacterium that served as the model organism in this experiment. We isolated only the luxAB portion of the entire lux operon and inserted it into the pGEM vector plasmid to transcribe the luciferase enzyme required for bioluminescence. Within the lux operon, luxAB is responsible for producing subunits that form luciferase, which oxidizes the aldehyde made by luxCDE into the reduced flavin mononucleotide FMNH2 and results in the production of light known as bioluminescence[6]. The luxI genethat is also present on the operon produces the autoinducer which interacts with a regulator, LuxR, [and] activates transcription of the lux operon at high cell density to induce bioluminescence[4]. This interaction between the products of luxI and luxR is known as quorum sensing and serves as an evolutionary purpose in the symbiotic relationship with Euprymna scolopes, a type of squid that contains the light organ where the bacteria resides[6]. In the first portion of the experiment, Vibrio fischeri chromosomal DNA was isolated by lysing the bacterial membranes and removing the proteins and lipids. Addition of a lysozyme solution breaks down the peptidoglycan layer in Gram negative bacteria and proteinase K/SDS degrades the proteins and disrupt the membranes. Liquid liquid extraction using Tris buffered phenol permits separation of proteins and lipids from the DNA into the organic layer. It is also essential that the isolated DNA is pure and free of ... • 52. Juvenile Crime Theories Although juvenile crime tends to go unrecognized, it is a major issue in America and happens to go unrecognized. There once was a time when society did not place emphasis on the special needs of juveniles. In most cases children were taking on adult roles to help their families survived, which caused them to struggle with identifying themselves in society. They were also subject to the same consequences that adults received when they did something that was considered morally wrong, forcing them to grow up before their time. There are multiple theories that are used when considering the consequences for an adult offender. However, I personally feel that we should not use the same theories for juvenile crimeunless the crime committed is a Mala In Se Crime, which is considered wrong and inherently evil immoral.Studies have shown that our brains continue to develop into our twenties, which confirms that the thought process that a child and an adult goes through is completely different. A juvenile is not mentally of physically developed enough to handle the severe consequences that an adult can. Just because someone makes... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 53. Essay about The Effects of Consumerism on Adults and Children The Effects of Consumerism on Adults and Children Businesses are creatively successful when designing a persuasive advertisement for increased profitability. The most popular ways of broadcasting a product are through radio, internet, billboards, newspapers, and television being the most effective. Many adults watch TV and they are usually the ones with the paycheck, so commercials are aimed toward them. On the other hand, it takes less than a strategic mind targeting children because they are fascinated by the simplest things. For years businesses have been perfecting commercials. Although marketing has had an impact on some adults, a more efficient route was discovered. That was by publicizing through the vulnerable minds of children. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By 1890 people became information consumers who were ready for commercial radio in 1920, followed by commercial television in the 1950 s (20 22). However, because commercial broadcasting requires advertisers money to stay afloat, news stories were shortened to run quickly. It seems like the majority of what people watched was advertisement television. Despite the overwhelming displays of marketing, years ago the only effect television caused, was society trying to imitate people who appeared to be confident (24). Presently, the effects of consumerism are to blame for the change in most of society s outlook on life. Learning America has the highest rate of consumerism is the most profound information I heard, in August 2009 (Chase). Mr. Chase, our Science teacher, also informed us that other developing countries have the ability to increase families without financial resources. This is because they have been accustomed to surviving with what they have. They don t spend money on the better things in life or materialistic items as some do in the United States. In this commercialized society customers appetite for consumer goods is satisfied through products mostly made of non renewable resources. Chase added how, unfortunately, humans consume excessive amounts of natural resources that are available to us; thus, gradually destroying the environment. Today the planet isn t the only thing being destroyed from mass consumerism; ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
