2. Essay on The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho
The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho
The book I read is called The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. The Alchemist is about a
boy from Spain, whose name is Santiago and is a shepherd. The book tells how he
gets around countries, and how he deals with his problems and how he solves them.
It shows how he follows his dreams, and who helps him along the way.
Santiago leaves his family to become a shepherd, before leaving his dad gives him
money he has saved up, Santiago buys sheep with the money. As a shepherd
Santiago travels around Spain. As he travels he is in search of food and water for
his sheep. During his journeys he gave his sheep names and really connects with
them. When he ran out of money, Santiago sold wool from his sheep for ... Show

The woman told him that his dream was, that he

was crazy, he sat on a bench and started to read a book he got in town. Suddenly an
old man sat by him and tells him that he knows where to find the treasure he is
looking for, and that he will tell him in exchange of one tenth of his sheep.
The boy agreed, and discovers that the man knew about the treasure the dream reader
was talking about, and knew a lot about the boy and where he is from. After
conversing with him for some time, he finds out that he is king, and that he helps
people with their personal legends.
After teaching the boy a lot about the journey he will go through, the king gave him
omens to follow. Santiago sells his sheep, and travels to a town on his way to
Egypt. He finds a man that could take him past the desert to Egypt. So the boy gives
him the money that he got for the sheep. When the man shows Santiago the town for
a little Santiago loses him in a crowd of hundreds shopping in the markets, and loses
all his money. The boy learns not to trust anyone, and is told that there are many
thieves in that town.
Santiago needed money and food, so he asked a man who owned a crystal shop, if he
could clean all his crystal pieces for some food and money. The man liked the
Santiago s work, so gave him some food, and told him he could work for him if he
wanted to. Santiago took the job, and ended up working

4. Far 600 Case Study-Jim Essay
Question B i. For the first Jim s proposal which is to accelerate the production and
shipment of a large order to Imperial, in my opinion Jim proposal is a good earning
management because under literature, Scott 2000, state that there are two type of
efficient earning management and opportunistic earning management. While for this
proposal it falls under efficient earning management. This is because Jim is trying to
improve earnings informativeness in communicating private information. Jim is
trying to accelerate the production and shipment where the promise date was for the
fifteenth of January and early shipment would acceptable to the customer. Moreover,
Jim would create an overtime premium of $100,000 to accelerate the production...

Jim will appear to making less money than it actually did and therefore have to
report fewer taxes. In other words, Jim is seeking for a tax saving. It can be explain
by using the contracting perspective where manager will choose accounting
techniques that will maximizes his or her utility at the expenses and also maximize
bonuses. Furthermore, by creating LIFO inventory layer adjustment it will give lower
reported earnings. If the company can avoid the inventory increase for the year and
instead having a reduction, they can take a credit adjustment to cost of sale and
increase their profit. Under literature Scott (2000), this proposal fall under
opportunistic earning management where the management report earnings
opportunistically to maximize own profit. Related study are Burgstahler and Dichev

losses or earning decline. Research show that there is negative relationship between
unexpected discretionary accruals and stock returns around the earnings
announcement date. This result indicates that the market views discretionary accruals
as opportunistic.

cameras revealed that the British Petroleum (BP) pipeline, connecting the oilrig to
the underwater well, had ruptured and was leaking 3.19 million barrels (over 130
million gallons) of oil into the Gulf of Mexico. The pipeline was finally capped 87

ART CRITICISM PAPER
The Grafin von Schonfeld with her Daughter by Elizabeth Louise Vigee LeBrun
In the University Of Arizona Museum Of Art, the Pfeiffer Gallery is displaying
many art pieces of oil on canvas paintings. These paintings are mostly portraits of
people, both famous and not. They are painted by a variety of artists of European
decent and American decent between the mid 1700 s and the early 1900 s. The
painting by Elizabeth Louise Vigee Lebrun caught my eye and drewme in to look
closely at its composition.

The little girl s dress gives the texture of lightness and seems like airy fabric that
would be thin and translucent. The time in this piece is very accurate of the late
1700 s and when viewing it, the time seems classic. The emphasis of this piece is
mainly the mother and the daughter, however when looking at them you are drawn
into looking at their realistic eyes. The eyes seem like the focal point which draws
the viewer in to the picture.
The relationship in the painting between the mother and daughter give it a definite
asymmetrical balance and maybe a little radial balance. A radial balance because of
their eyes being the central focus, then the faces, then the holding of each other, then
where they are placed on the canvas, and then the bench and the landscape. The
colors used by the painter, also creates balance with in the picture. The wine
colored dress of the mother, red sash of the daughter s dress, ruby lips, and the rosy
cheeks give a warm feeling to the central focus of the mother and daughter. The
cool color of the sky is the same as the women s eyes as well as the trees and green
on the mother s dress. These balances give unity or a unifying feeling to the painting,
especially between the mother and daughter.
The idea of this piece is to show the connection between mother and daughter being
painted. It shows the time and the classic style of the

as how it became an issue. This paper will explore what aspects of file sharing are
ethical and at what point it becomes unethical. An explanation of the laws will be

Not everyone thought this was such a great idea, however. Some objections cite legal
or moral concerns. Other problems were technical. Many network providers, having
set up their systems with the idea that users would spend most of their time
downloading data from central servers, have economic objections to peer to peer
models. A long established fixture of computer networking that includes important
peer to peer components is Usenet, which has been around since 1979. Usenet
news implements a decentralized model of control that in some ways is the
grandfather of today s new peer to peer applications such as Gnutella* and Freenet*.
Fundamentally, Usenet is a system that, using no central control, copies files
between computers. So the bottom line is that file sharing has been around for a
long time now and that its decentralized nature makes is hard to control besides
holding each individual sharing files accountable. Peer to peer systems go hand in
hand with decentralized systems. In a fully decentralized system, not only is every
host an equal participant, but there are no hosts with special facilitating or
administrative roles. In practice, building fully decentralized systems can be difficult,
and many peer to peer applications take hybrid approaches to solving problems. [1]
Laws and Issues Associated with File sharing
File sharing in itself is not an issue until
9. Getting to Know Asteroids
Asteroids are a very fascinating part of our solar system. Asteroids are classified as
small airless rocky worlds revolving around the sun. Since asteroids are too small,
they have not been called planets during the time of their existence. The larger
asteroids are known as planetoids or minor planets. Asteroids as a whole, their mass
does not even come close to the mass of the Earths moon. This could be a reason
why they have not been known as planets. Although asteroids can be seen in any part
of our galaxy, most of them reside in the area between Mars and Jupiter. In this are
between Mars and Jupiter, you can find close to 200 hundred asteroids larger than
60 miles in diameter. This may not seem like a lot, but that to me seems like a large
abundance of asteroids to be kept together in one place at one time. As we have
learned in class, asteroids are leftovers from the formation of our solar systemabout
4.6 billion years ago. This to me is eye opening, because with all of these asteroids
floating around in our solar system, very rarely do you hear of an incident where an
asteroid hits earth. This could also be because of the gravitational pull in space, which
can keep the asteroids away. NASA does a very good job of keeping track of these
asteroids, and can keep a close eye on any attack that can be happening. As I will
explain later in the future endeavors category, NASA is in the process of using an
asteroid as a defense mechanism, and also for reasons of easily

exclusions at the bottom of the page? Some fine print examples might be: 1) Some
exclusions may apply, 2) must not have sinned within the last 24 hours, 3) children
not included, 4) offer not good after..., 5) void where prohibited or 6) quantities are

11. Self Reliance Is Beneficial Or Beneficial
An issue regarding thinking has been on the importance of self reliance, the notion
of relying on oneself for ideas and knowledge. Some people argue that self reliance
is harmful. From this perspective, self reliance generates bad thoughts and ideas, and
people should conform to society instead. However, others argue that self reliance is
extremely important for society. Ralph Waldo Emerson, a main proponent of this
view, says that To believe your own thought, to believe that what is true for you in
your private heart is true for all men that is genius (1). According to this view,
relying on one s own ideas is genius, and it is much smarter to practice self reliance
rather than conform to society s ideas. In sum, then, the issue is whether self
reliance is beneficial or not beneficial. My view is that self reliance is beneficial.
Though I concede that at times it may be a good ideato agree with the majority, I still
maintain that one s own ideas are much better than those of the majority almost all
of the time. Although some people think that the majority opinion is usually correct,
I claim that the notion of self reliance is beneficial because individuals should rely
on their own knowledge gained from life experience to create new and better ideas,
which cause society to move forward and become better than it was before.
Self reliance is beneficial because individuals create ideas that are better compared to
those of the majority. Emerson explains the importance of
12. The Importance Of International Cooperation
Interstate bargaining and cooperation characterize international relations. Only
cooperation allows states to mutually gain, but collaboration costs encourage states to
betray others to maximize utility. International institutions mitigate these costs,
transform zero sum interactions into positive sum interactions, and aid interstate
cooperation. International economic institutions facilitate interstate cooperation by
establishing rules for trade, reducing costs of international transactions, and providing
dispute settlement mechanisms; however, a lack of independent enforcement
capacity weakens these institutions.
Institutions encourage cooperation by creating interstate trade rules. Without a world
government, states must self enforce international agreements and punish others who
violate them. Yet, states cannot enforce agreements or punish violators if they cannot
agree on what constitutes a violation. Such ambiguity fosters conflict. Trade rules
eliminate this ambiguity because they measure whether nations violated trade
agreements. By identifying violations, trade rules thus prevent states from
reciprocating punishment for misperceived transgressions (Frieden, Lake, and
Schultz 2016). The World Trade Organization(WTO) provides such rules. Striving to
promote market liberalization, the WTO requires members to implement non
discriminatory measures like Most Favored Nation (MFN) and national treatment.
MFN obliges members to give equal market access to all other members
13. The Role Of Law In The 17th Century
Throughout the chronology of civilization across our terraqueous globe, there has
been one aspect of society which facilitates our stability. That aspect is our
adherence to moral ethics and just laws. This developed cultural trait has ensured the
progression of society and the safety in developing a complacency to fear or harm. It
is law, that protects us from the dangers of ourselves and the malevolence of others.
However, the law has never been indefectible or paradisiac. The laws of man often
reveal their faultiness, and their vulnerability to pervasive interpretation. During the
17th century, the New World suffered greatly in developing new laws, regulations,
and experimental societal structure. The 17th century contemporary philosophy on
community, family, and religion formed the guidelines in which all societal rules
would be formed.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

14. Effects Of Air Pollution Essay
An increase in Gross Domestic Product (GDP) leads to worsening environmental
condition in poor countries. This inverse relation is shown in the environmental
Kuznets s curve. Economic growth is perceived to be able to achieve both economic
and environmental objectives, whereas the environmental policy may impede
economic growth. This turns limits to economic growth and environmentally
unfavorable stage of development. Air pollutionis a most dangerous problem faced by
both developed and developing countries in the world. Industrialization and
urbanization have resulted in deterioration of air quality. Urban air pollutionproblems
reached a crisis in many cities of the developing countries. There are several
preventable diseases resulting from air pollution. Human health is very closely linked
to environmental quality. According to official statistics, 25% of all endemic diseases
are caused by detrimental environmental factors. Suspended ParticulateMatter
(SPM), Carbon monoxide, oxides of Nitrogen, Sulphur dioxide etc. are considered as
the major air pollutants. In most megacities of India, the concentration of a number
of air pollutants is much higher than WHO recommended levels. For instance, the
capital city of India, New Delhi, is one of the top ten most polluted cities in the
world. Literature reviews show that in New Delhi, the incidence of respiratory
diseases due to air pollution is about twelve times the national average. In urban India,

In Defense of Icons
Throughout history The Church and a number of Christians including myself have
found themselves defending their use of icons against the views of individuals who
felt that the icons were a form of idolatry. These individuals also know as Iconoclasts
have a staunch position against the use of icons. Their position is based on
interpretation of the Old Testamentlaw stated in Exodus 20:4 You must not make for
yourself an idol of any kind or an image of anything in the heavens or on the earth
or in the sea . Is this truly contrary to the Old Testament law or is it simply
preserving through time the incarnation of Christ, the Gospels and the history of
the Christian church? I will give you a brief history, and then offer my personal
opinion to the subject. Let s define what is an icon and give a brief history of icons.
An icon is sacred art, usually a fresco or mosaic of Jesus Christ, the Virgin Mary,
martyred Saints or scenes from the bible that are given special veneration. This type
of sacred art first appeared in the catacombs were the first Christians would gather to
worship during periods of persecution. The scenes depicted were of Christ s family,
gospel stories or stories from the Hebrew scriptures. As Christianity began to grow,
and after the Edict of Milan the Emperor Constantine decreed that Christians were
no longer to be persecuted. In response to this new decree, by the fourth century
icons became a way of teaching the Gospel and a way to

British troops in the colonies to stamp out the protests of the colonists. It is the
19. Non Commissioned Officer Essay
Non Commissioned Officers must exhibit expertise in both management and
leadership to be truly successful. Management is the ability to attain quantifiably
measurable success, while Leadership is the art of capitalizing on a person s
individual motivators to inspire. While a mission may be complete utilizing only
managementtactics, we must motivate our Soldiers and groom them to one day take
our place. It is necessary to make the distinction between the two and to find a
balance.
As a Non Commissioned Officer (NCO), it is my foremost job to train and lead
Soldiers. The ways that an NCO may approach this task are as varied as the
personality types within the Army, and are specific to the element for which an
NCO is responsible. We are charged to groom the future NCOs who will take our
place by creating subject matter experts and role models. We aim to create, promote,
and guide Soldiers by our Values, the Creed of the Non Commissioned Officer,
adherence to the Constitution, and the various regulations and publications guiding

20. Lucretius Soul Theory Essay
In his only extant work, the poem De Rerum Natura (On the Nature of Things),
Epicurean author Titus Lucretius Carus writes of the soul as being inseparable from
the corporeal body. This view, although controversial in its opposition to the
traditional concept of a discrete, immortal soul, is nevertheless more than a mere
novelty. The argument that Lucretiusmakes for the soulbeing an emergent property of
interactions between physical particles is in fact more compelling and well supported
now than Lucretius himself would have ever imagined. Lucretius begins his
argument by noting that the mind, far from being separate from the affairs of the
body, has been observed to be directly affected by physical forces. He states that the
nature... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lucretius expands on this first truth by observing that while the soul cannot have
any effect without a body, the effects of physical blows suffered by the body are
shared in by the soul. You perceive the mind to suffer along with the body, and to
share our feeling in the body. If the grim force of a weapon driven deep to the
dividing of bones and sinews fails to hit life, yet a languor follows and a blissful
fall to the ground... and sometimes a kind of hesitating desire to rise (161). The
direct effects of physical injury felt by the body on the mind, he writes, are proof
that the nature of the mind must be bodily, since it suffers by bodily weapons and
blows (161). In fact, Lucretius example of a mind weakened by blood loss is only
the beginning of the many forms of havoc physical trauma can wreak upon the
mind. Relatively recent examples include the case study of Phineas Gage, whose
life survived the destruction of a portion of his brain in an accident, but whose
personality assuredly did not. According to reports from the company that had
employed him, Gage, once the possessor of temperate habits and considerable
energy of character, was transformed by his injury into an individual described as
Fitful, irreverent, [and] grossly profane (Macmillan 829). In less extreme cases,
cognitive functioning and personality are altered temporarily on a daily basis by the
consumption of alcohol and drugs or with psychiatric

Faith in White Teeth In the novel White Teeth by Zadie Smith, the theme of faith
plays a primary role in the significant events of the character s lives. All the
characters believe in some type of faith. Smith does a great job in bringing in
different types of faith. We have examples of religious faith, faithin science, and faith

Zadie smith explores the idea of fate in religious, scientific, and humanistic contexts.

Each website project starts with a plan
Write down your ideas to have a plan and think about which sections in your

sketch a simple diagram, this will help you later to remember how your first website

Brooke Fraser is a New Zealand musician who has gravitated towards the acoustic,

Brutal Romantic marked a significant shift in her music as she moved into more
electronic sounds. Arithmetic is a very simplistic, acoustic song off her first album

a moderate tempo; AR is slightly faster at 117 BPM and KQ at 100 BPM.
AR does not use the common V Ch form that many pop songs have; instead it
replaces the chorus with a refrain. The songs form is presented below and shows
that the song stays at a consistent, dynamic level with a slight raise in the 2nd V and
a peak in the Br. AR starts with a 9 barIn with a pause on bars 8 and 9 that leads into
a 3 bar Pvs; preceding an unusual V length of 9 bars. The first Re has a bar of Вѕ and

Linear Programming in Healthcare Systems: Linear programming is one of the
qualitative tools in the decision making process of Operations Research. Similar with
the other methods in Operations Research, linear programming consists of a series of
mathematical optimization and simulation means and models. Currently, the use of
linear programming in providing optimized solutions has helped in lessening costs
significantly across medium and large sized organizations in various industrialized
countries. As a result, many researchers state that the development of linear
programming model is one of the most important scientific developments in the
second part of the 20th Century. In the healthcare field, linear programming has
proven to be an alternative to various critical aspects such as planning brachytherapy,
in which it has replaced the conventional solutions depending on trial and error.
Moreover, linear programming method has been used develop balanced diets at lesser

Background Information: Hospital malnutrition or problems associated with
economics and nutrition in the hospital were identified more than three decades ago
though they are still overlooked today. This is because the health facility has not
included nutrition screening, evaluation, and intervention measures as part of the
medical care. As a result, hospital malnutrition continues to be an unidentified or

Kino and Juana headed towards the forest as the soundless night grew and they
knew that some evil person would follow and eventually kill them. Coyotito was
still sound asleep and Juana hung him around her hip as she walked with Kino.
Suddenly, Kino came to a stop and warned Juana that he heard footsteps and he
knew that someone was following them. They heard the click of the carbine and
figured that they had to hide before the devil fired. They ran until they were sure
that no one was there but they didn t know that everyone wanted the pearl and they
would do anything for it. That night, as Kino and Juana found a place to stay, they
were followed by several strangers, some avarice people who belonged from La Paz
and other indigent people who heard about the pearl. Juana who was now really

26. Big Fish Movie Eval Essay
Big Fish
So this is a tall tale?
Well, it s not a short one...
Stories are our essence of life. They grow and change with us. They allow us to
reconstruct the past, and put our slant on things. They don t have make sense, and
they don t all have to be fact. That s what kind of story this is. Big Fish, directed by
Tim Burton, is a heartwarming, comedic film, with many twists and turns. It explores
the world of an eccentric father, while telling his life story. And so, our story begins.
It is Edward s myths, of course, that really reveal the man he is. Tim Burton mixes
tender heartfelt drama with zany, outrageous scenes, skipping from past to present,
while keeping the tension alive.

This is the film s (fish) hook, and once it sinks itself in, it carries you on a journey
that is unexpected, enchanting, outrageous, and genuinely moving.
Edward s encounter with a witch (early in the film) plants a question in the audience
s mind that we know must be answered by film s end. When this is finally resolved
(along with a number of other things), the result is remarkable. I have rarely seen a
collection of images that have stirred my emotions so much.
In the end of the film, Will ends up taking on Edwards abilities by telling his father
one of his own stories on his deathbed. So the film came full circle and Will realized
the importance of story telling to his father, and to himself.
I did have a few problems with this film. The first would be the overly exaggerated
southern accent it tends to take away from a few of the scenes because you re
more focused on how they talk rather than what they re saying. Also I can see how
very few can relate on a personal level to this story. But either way this film breathes
new life into story telling and gives it a new spin.
This is one of the most pleasant surprises to come out of the body of 2003 films. I
never expected this movie to reach me so deeply, but it has, and I imagine that many
who treasure the magic of storytelling will feel the same way. In less capable hands,
Big Fish could be seen as a liar s a life. In trying to reshape the world around his

The cruel acts carried out by Nero in his rulership can be directly linked back to his
administrators, how they affected his morals and values to become the cruel leader
that he was. It is human nature that the values, morals, and attitudes shown later in

matricide was taken in great shock, in the annals of Tacitus, whose work is
representative of high class roman society around the time of 56 CE to 120 CE,
Tacitus writes as seen in appendix 2, on the reasoning behind the act. This change
in attitude from Nero can be linked to his second wife and mistress Poppaea.
Poppaea was another woman who was ambitious in gaining power. She is thought
to have had a great impact through seduction on convincing Nero to kill his
Mother but also Octavia, Seneca, who was one positive influence on Nero, and to

killing his not only wife but a future child is further evidence into the growing

Sure, you could just do it the easy and boring way and just read the ingredients. Or,
you can do the more fun way by separating the dyes using space sand. Space sand is
waterproof sand. The purpose of this experiment is telling what colors make up the
grape soda by using the grape soda, instilled water, and 70% isopropyl alcohol to
watch the dyes separate when the mixture passes thru the space sand. The reason
why I m doing this experiment is because I m generally interested in how sand can

Commercialism...
To what extent do race ethnicity, social class and commercialism influence
participation in sport, and in what ways?
Intro
Anglo Saxon culture is in many ways obsessed with sport and, from the late
eighteenth through to the nineteenth centuries, produced many of the formalized
sports now adopted world wide and played according to the standard rules (Holt,
1989). In the last century following a brief period of participation, black sportsmen
were barred participating alongside whites e.g. Baseball in the early 1860s which
led to black players resorting to create their own teams and leagues. Black
sportsmen have since World War II made a remarkable impact in baseball,
basketball, athletics, American football and boxing but not so much in golf and
tennis (Coakley 1978, Edwards, 1973). A reason being that according to the 2012
U.S. Census Bureau American Community Survey the poverty rate for African
Americans is 28% compared to 15% for all races which shows some races are more
inclined to be part of a certain social class. Certain sports tend to be linked with
middle and upper classes lifestyle both in their recruitment and their supporters.
Class and Race/Ethnic Minorities
There is an indissoluble link between social class, ethnicity and sports. Football in
Britain and Brazil, baseball and basketball in America are among sports which
continue to recruit players almost exclusively from the blue collar sector of the
population. Working class men view a career in professional

Alice Walker, author of The Color Purple, portrays the main character Celie as an
introverted butterfly who has yet to come out of her cocoon, hiding away from
confrontation and actions that could cause negative reactions. As the story
progresses, she blossoms before the reader, becoming more present in her world
where she would otherwise be shuttered in. Her character development is due to the
introduction of two very empowering and independent women, acting as female
archetypes throughout the novel. Shug, a woman with a fiery personality that
ignites inspiration in Celie to further herself as a woman, is the main focal point of
the female archetype in this novel. Celie wants to change herself; not to fit into the
mold in which Shug has pushed herself into, but to better her life. Shug s
personality was able to rid Celie of the internal dark cloud living inside her. Shug is
clearly identified as a female archetype throughout the novel; an empowering woman
who stands against the odds she has been faced with. Another female archetype in
the novel is Sofia, Mr._____ s (Celie s husband) daughter in law. Sofia shares many

A character can also share traits of more than one class of archetypes. Shug is both
the Caregiver archetype and the Hero archetype (Latimer). Throughout the novel,
Shug transitions from the bitter, confrontational women who detests Celie to the
person who is there to pick her up and dry her tears, becoming a caregiver of sorts.
She can also be seen as possessing the hero archetype because Celie admires Shug
and aspires to be similar to her, not in her behavior but her confident personality.
Celie sees how easily it is for Shug to stand up for herself and to act confident around
higher male figures, both are things she has never managed to
32. The Effect Of Acceleration On The Angle Of Inclination Of...
Introduction:
Acceleration is a vital law of motion that is described as the rate of change of
velocity per unit of time; Rate of change means the ratio of the amount of change
divided by how much time it took to change. (The Physics Classroom, 2016). This
law of motion will be tested and displayed by rolling a car down a ramp and
recording the acceleration of the car is it descends the ramp. The speed/velocity of the
car will gradually increase by the same amount every second. The steeper the slope
(the bigger the angle of inclination of the ramp) that the car is rolling down, the
faster the car will accelerate. This is because the amount of gravity experienced is
dependent on the angle of the slope.
Aim:
The aim of the experiment is to examine how the acceleration of the car differs when
the angle of inclination of the ramp is amplified and to record and analyse findings.
Hypothesis + Justification
If the angle of the inclination increases, making the slope steeper, then the
acceleration of the car descending the slope will also increase. This is because the
amount of gravity experienced by the car is dependent on the angle of the slope, the
steeper the slope the more gravity will be experienced. Therefore, pulling the car
down the slope at a greater velocity over the same distance thus creating a greater
acceleration for the car.

HISTORY OF SWIMMING IN THE OLYMPIC GAMES
According to the Oxford dictionary, the act of swimming is to propel one s body
through water by using the limbs or other bodily movement . Using this form to
propel through water is now so technical and refined that it is classed as an
individual or team sport as well as a recreational activity. One of the most popular
sports of the Olympic Games today is swimming highlighting events in different
strokes like the butterfly, backstroke, freestyle and breaststroke. Competition is
conducted both in a purpose built swimming pool as well as the open water.

Not only paintings have been found but also written evidence referencing
swimming. The first ever book of swimming was written by a German professor of
languages, Nikolaus Wynmann in 1538 called The Swimming or A Dialogue on the
Act of Swimming .
The country that was first to take part in swimming both as a competitive sporting
activity and as a recreation was England in the early 18th century. The competitions
with time gained popularity leading to the first indoor swimming pool opening for
the public in 1828, at the St George Baths, London and operated by the National
Swimming Society. Improvements made towards swimming as a sport led to
numerous swimming organizations such as Amateur Swimming Association of Great
Britain with as many as 300 regional clubs operating throughout England. By 1882
other European countries had also established swimming federations with the first
European amateur swimming competitions in 1889.
The style of swimming or stroke that was majorly used was the breaststroke

in 1873 after winning a local competition, Sir John Arthur Trudgen debuted a new
hand over stroke freestyle, which is still considered today as the most powerful
strokes of all swimming styles.

34. The Importance Of Video Games
Video games are generally seen as a waste of time and nothing good can come out
of playing them. People usually associate video games with nerds and adults who
stay in the basements of their parent s house. With all these negative associations
with video games, it is hard to see that video games can actually be helpful and
beneficial to an individual s mental and physical health. The negative associations of
video games started from the Video gamecrash of 1983. The crash led to bankruptcy
of numerous companies that were producing computers and video game consoles.
Due to the bankruptcy, the majority of the population believed that working for
computer companies and video games would be a waste of time since job security
was not high. Presently, both computer and video games companies are successful,
but the majority of the population still believes the negative aspect of video
games. While it was about job security before, the negativity aspect associated with
video games has changed. The big negative aspect associated with gaming is that it
is a waste of time and can only negatively affect an individual s mental and physical
health. Chris Regal, an author of Health Central who wrote 8 Ways Video Games
Are Bad For Your Health, argued that video games increases obesity, increases
aggressive behavior, and more likely to become less educated. While these claims
can be true, these claims also focus on individuals who have spent the majority of
their time playing video games. I can see Regal s conclusion because there are
cases that prove that his points. The increase in obesity is true because individuals
are more and more of their time playing video games instead of exercising. People
believe it increases aggressive behavior because most action games are usually
aggressive, but in reality, individuals with high aggressive behavior are usually the
ones who play aggressive action games. Individuals are also more likely to be less
educated because children who go to school would not focus on studying or doing
their homework because they want to play video games more. Since the majority of
the population believe these claims, a new derogatory was created to describe gamers
which is NEET. NEET is short for Not in

the effects of savings and consumption on the national income of an economy and
it also shows the relationship between change in income and change in investment.
The multiplier effect occurs when an input causes a bigger final increase in
national income, for example, if the spending by the government increases by
$550 billion, there would be an initial increase in aggregate demand of $550
billion. Every time there is an input of new demand into the circular flow of money
there is most probably to be a multiplier effect. This is because an input of extra
income leads to more spending, that creates more income, and so on. The multiplier
effect refers to the rise in final income arising from any new input or spending by
the government or any financial body. The size of the multiplier depends upon
household s marginal decision to spend, called the marginal propensity to consume
(MPC), or to save, marginal propensity to save (MPS). So the effect of increase in
savings on the multiplier

The Effects of Menu Labeling on Health We as Americans live in a nation that has
succumbed to the obesity epidemic. Research shows that Over the past 25 years,
U.S. obesity prevalence has doubled, and Americans are consuming more meals
away from home (Auchincloss). Civilians are eating foods that are driving them
on a path towards high cholesterol, diabetes, heart disease and even cancer without
them even realizing it. The main benefactor of these diseases are said to be chain
restaurants who are feeding individuals food that could possibly be detrimental to
their health and shorten their lifespans. About six years ago, Philadelphia passed a
law called the Menu Labeling Law that made it necessary for all chain restaurants
with fifteen or more outlets to provide nutritional information about the food they
serve to their customers in hopes of combatting this epidemic. According to
statistics from the mayor s office, in 2008 64 percent of adults and 57 percent of
children in Philadelphia were overweight or obese (Mayes). These statistics are
astounding to even grasp. Many businesses took this law as something that would
harm their profits while the government believed it would sway the obesity rates to
the smaller side of the spectrum, but when it came to health it was what people
needed to steer them in the right direction. One chain restaurant in particular that
must follow this law is the Subway right on Liacouras walkway. In relation to health
this law serves as a

The essentialist approach to sexuality asserts that sexuality is an inborn characteristic
and an innate aspect of being human. The essentialist approach evolves out of the
biological model which views sexuality as a universal drive within the body that has
remained constant over time (Bakehorn, 8/30/206). Essentialism assesses all sexual
practices throughout history and within different cultures using a universal set of
criteria. This understandingof sexuality leads essentialists to apply the dichotomous
sexual orientations of homosexual and heterosexual to describe all sexual behavior
throughout history (Weeks 2010:20). Essentialism is very rigid in its approach to

where terraforming comes in. There are various proposed methods for
terraforming Mars, but for the most part, they all start with melting the planet s ice
caps and warming the planet s atmosphere by introducing various gases to create
breathable air. The new gases then thicken the atmosphere to protect from solar
radiation (Williams). There are also bacteria called Deinococcus Radiodurans that
could possibly be genetically engineered to detoxify soil on Mars (Slotnick 124
125). If this bacteria can be correctly engineered, Deinococcus Radiodurans would
likely provide a faster way to create detoxified soil than waiting around for the
atmosphere to detoxify it; therefore, being a huge step forward in the effort to
terraform Mars. The major setback to the idea of terraforming is how long it will
take. The actual estimates for the length of time it will take to make Mars
completely human safe vary between a couple of quick centuries to millions of years
(Williams). In addition to length, terraforming would also require a staggering
amount of greenhouse gases from Earth. Not only would the gases have to be
43. Technology And Its Impact On Organizational Change
The sources of organizations are molded and coordinated by technology and its
practices. New advancements in technology may influence changes in business
and society, paying little mind to the likelihood that they are risky changes. In
today s perpetually changing business world, rolling out a reformation is a
hazardous course of action and the innovation is impelling cause for associations
to have the capacity to compete (Gokcen Koc Cavus, 2014). This paper presents
technology s impact on organizational change, and the factors that influence a
company s capacity and need to evolve. Technology Technology is a Greek word
taken from the blend of a couple of words: techne (meaning art) and logos (meaning
logic or science). So approximately deciphered, technology implies the craft of
rationale or the specialty of experimental control. Formally, it has been characterized
by Everett M. Rogers a design for instrumental action that reduces the uncertainty in
the cause effect relationships involved in achieving a desired outcome (as cited in
Mason, n.d). That is, technology includes both unmistakable items, for an example,
the PC, and information about methodologies and strategies, such as the technology
of large scale manufacturing presented by Henry Ford and others (Mason, n.d).
Another definition was advanced by J. Paap, as cited by Michael Bigwood in
Research Technology Management. Paap defined technology as the use of science
based knowledge to meet a need (as cited
44. African American Stereotypes in the Film Industry
African Americans have long endured demeaning and misrepresentative images
within the film industry and American society as a whole. In the early 20th
century, an abundance of films depicted an idealized vision of life in the south, in
which blacks were happily subservient to their role as the property of their white
masters. The roles of black characters were also portrayed by white actors in
blackface. Blackface was a form of theatrical makeup used to represent an image of
a black person and was employed as a means to portray negative images of African
Americans and to showcase them in an inferior light. Fortunately, the use of
blackface dwindled as it was considered extremely offensive and derogatory, although
the practice still remains in use today though very limited due to the rightful stigma
surrounding it. However, the negative portrayals of African Americans in filmdid not
end there and continued for a long time after. African Americans were still confined
to roles which often portrayed blacks as incompetent, child like, hyper sexualized,
and criminal. Even the more positive roles offered to African Americans provided
limited options and reinforced the belief that the proper social position for African
Americans was that of a servant who was devoted to his or her white masters and to
upholding that particular social order. These roles were often as loyal servants,
mammies, and butlers some even found great success and prominence in these roles,
most notably
45. The True Tragic Hero In Antigone By Sophocles
The true tragic hero of the play Antigone, by Sophocles, has been a question many
people have been asking. Creon, the king of Thebes, gives one of Antigone s
brothers, Eteocles, a proper burial, but leaves her other brother s, Polyneices, body to
be eaten by birds and wild dogs. Because of this decision, he ends up losing his entire
family because of his pride, or hubris.
Antigone, the daughter of Oedipus, does not want her brother s body to be shamed in
such a way, and creates a plan to secretly bury the body against Creon s orders. She
tries to persuade her sister, Ismene, into helping her with the plan, but she refuses to
disobey Creon s law. Antigone says, If you will not, I will; I shall not prove disloyal.
(Sophocles, 3). Creon, the king of Thebes, is giving Eteocles, one of Oedipus s
sons, a proper burial after his death in battle against Polyneices, the brother of
Eteocles. However, he forbids anyone from burying Polyneices, saying Never with
me shall wicked men usurp the honors of the righteous... (Sophocles, 12). Polyneices
tried to overthrow Creon, but Eteocles fought for Creon. He placed guards around the
body to make sure that no one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Tiresias sees that the gods are unhappy with Creon s choice of keeping Polyneices
unburied, and informs Creon of his great mistake. Creon, as Oedipus did many
years ago, say, All the prophetic tribe are covetous. (Sophocles, 57). He wishes to
believe he made the right decision. In her cell, Antigone hangs herself, just as her
mother had done years before after discovering she had married her own son.
When Haemon discovers Antigone dead, he tries to kill his father, but fails. He
kills himself with his own sword, and dies next to Antigone. His mother, Eurydice,
blames Creon for the death of their son, and kills herself in her grief. Creon is left
alone to more the lose of his family, and to realize the mistakes that lead to their

47. Makeup Rules
Many junior high girls at St. Jude dont understand why we have a makeup rule.
For as long as I have gone to St. Jude, I have known that there was a rule that girls
are not allowed to wear makeup to school. Teachers think that girls will either go
way overboard and look like a clown (which might scare the littler kids.) Or they will
start to focus on what they look like instead of their education. This is why this rule is
in place, but I think the makeup rule should be taken away. When most people
think about why girls wear makeup, they usually think that us girls just wear
makeup to impress other people. This is wrong, because most girls wear make up
for themselves and so they can feel comfortable and good. I agree that there are
times where girls will wear makeup to impress a guy or one of their friends. But, that
s not the case all the time.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Makeup makes girls feel pretty and some actually feel good in there own skin.
Makeup really helps girls start to feel comfortable with themselves because they
are able to look their best in front of other people. Some might think that makeup
makes girls think they aren t pretty so they have to cover it up. I agree this is what
some girls do, but it s not like they re trying to impress someone, like i already said,
they are doing it for themselves. In conclusion, St.Jude should definitely take away
the makeup rule. Like a already said it helps girls feel more comfortable with what
they look like, this prepares them for high school where things are different. This is
also a really dumb rule because girls break it all the time, so why have it when they
are gonna break the rule
48. The Importance Of Self-Knowledge In Shakespeare s King
Lear
The term self knowledge refers to the knowledge of one s particular mental states.
This would include; beliefs, desires, and sensations. It is also seen to as the
knowledge about ones persisting self, whether it be by ontological nature, identity,
and character traits. Ohio State defines it as, The problem of man s understanding
of himself is associated with that of a man s insecurity, and it is treated in the
larger frame of the difficulty s of understanding the truth in general The Ohio State
of University 281. Self knowledge could also be described as self awareness. One is
knowledgeable of their self and their own personal wants and needs.
Shakespeare authored the play known as King Lear around 1605, between Othello
and Macbeth. The setting of King Lear is very different from the parameters of
any of his other plays because it dramatized events from the eighth century b.c.
One possible event that may have influenced they play King Lear was a lawsuit
that occurred not very long before it was written. The eldest of three sisters tried to
have her elderly father, named Sir Brian Annesley, declared insane so that she
could take control of his property. Sir Brian Annesley s youngest daughter, Cordell,
defended her father against her sister and was very successful. Another event that
may have influenced the play was the case of William Allen, a mayor of London.
Allen was treated very poorly by his three daughters after dividing his wealth
amongst them. This is similar to King Lear because in the play his daughters are put
to the test to see which of them lives him the most. As a result of the test, the most
deceitful daughters are rewarded and the one who is the most loyal ends up being
banished.
In the beginning of the play, King Lear can be described as a naive old man. This is
the time where he is most uneducated about himself and the circumstances of his life.
While King Lear and Gloucester both lack self knowledge, the world around them
quickly is falling into shambles. As a result of this, evil is given the opportunity to
take over in both of their lives. Lear attempts to run an experiment amongst the three
of his daughters so that he can award the largest portion of the kingdom to the one
that loves
49. Ancient Greek Of Ancient Greece
Polis is a term that is used to describe a tight knit small community of Ancient
Greek citizens who agreed on certain rules and customs. Usually a polis was
centered on a small town and the countryside the surrounded it (Deering). The polis
defined a public and communal space, the Agora, for the purpose of leading public
affairs. The affairs of men and affairs were included as these had essentials parts to
the entire community s affairs. The Ancient Greek poleis are among the first
recorded democratic governments in the world. The term polis has been translated
into city state as there was typically only one city and because an individual polis
was independent from other poleis in terms of political, judicial, legal, religious and
social... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
About half of these were citizens and their families with at least 100,000 slaves and
the remaining being foreigners who needed to be registered with a citizen sponsor.
The polis was made up of several different classes of people, just like many
societies of that time as well as the present. There were several drawbacks such as
women, slaves, and immigrants not being able to participate in politics. Those
involved in the polis were expected to participate in such meetings that dealt with the
oversight of the city and its dealings with issues. The Athenian democracy depended
on every capable citizen fulfilling his role within the polis. The involvement of all
male citizens and the expectation that they should participate actively in the running
of the polis is clear in this quote from Thucydides: We alone consider a citizen who
does not partake in politics not only one who minds his own business but useless .
Ancient Greece is credited with the identification of democracy because of the large
scale in which they produced their governing ways. As early as 900 B.C., Greece
again expanded contacts with civilizations to the east, and Greek civilization became
more complex. The rise of empires, most notably the Athenian Empire, brought a
more sophisticated economy, trade, colonization, and war (Curtis). The importance of
the polis within Athens became prevalent through the sophisticated economy
produced from the formation. Athens was the most developed of the Greek polis
50. Detroit Pistons Research Papers
The NBA season is well under way and there is one team who is surprising
everyone within the fantasy basketball world. The Detroit Pistons players have got
off to an extravagant start and are quickly becoming more relevant each game that
they play in. Pistons star center Andre Drummond is off to a record start and
newcomer Marcus Morris may just be what us fantasy fans were looking for in a
great waiver wire pickup. I knew a few of the Pistons players could be great additions
to my fantasy roster, but I never believed that there would be a core four group of
players who would rock our world!
So, here s a look at this foursome of athletes who are winning our fantasy hearts in
the Motor City:
Andre Drummond, Center
Drummond has started this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With the lack of solid big men in Detroit, he will most likely continue seeing big
minutes each night on the floor. It s going to be hard, but if possible I would get
your hands on Drummond now because he may very well be this year s surprise
fantasy MVP!
Marcus Morris, Small Forward
Morris has quickly fit right into his new home in Detroit and solidified his role on
this Pistons team. In 2015, he has averaged 17.3 points, 7.5 rebounds and 1.8 assists
per contest. Morris is second on the team in total minutes at 38.3 per contest, so he
see s plenty of time of the basketball court. I m one of the few fantasy fans who isn t
surprised by Morris stellar start to the 2015 16 season, though. I ve been following
this guy since his days in the Big 12 when he played at Kansas University.
Morris reliability was questionable coming into this season because of his off the
court controversy from being traded to the Pistons. He was comfortable down in
Phoenix with the Suns playing alongside his twin brother Markieff Morris. It seems
as if he s adjusted well and may actually be the better athlete of the Morris twins! It
s time for him to step out of his brother s shadow and help our fantasy squads to
51. Poverty Of Sharecroppers And Unemployed Industrial
Workers
Poverty of Sharecroppers vs Unemployed Industrial Workers Poverty has been a
big issue over the past century or so and continues to be a problem to this day in
the United States. Due to the Civil War, rural areas and industrial areas were
affected by poverty. The poverty of rural sharecroppers in 1877 was different from
the poverty of unemployed industrial workers in 1939. Even though both situations
were dealing with a form of poverty, both were two completely different situations.
There were several major events that happened that caused poverty of rural
sharecroppers in 1877. Although there were various events leading up to the
poverty of unemployed industrial workers in 1939, poverty in the year of 1877 was
just as bad, if not worse, as in the year of 1939. There are several major events that
happened after the Civil War that led up to poverty. In 1865, Southern states started
issuing out black codes after the Civil War. Black codes were intended to restrain
African Americans freedom. It made it illegal for an African American to be
unemployed or to quit a job, which made them slaves even though they were getting
paid low wages. In 1866, the 14th Amendment was passed by Congress, which
granted citizenship for all Americans, not just white Americans, but African
Americans too. This Amendment got endorsed by the states, which became known as
the Reconstruction Amendment two years later in 1868. In 1870, the states were
obligated to enforce the 15th Amendment due the
52. Faustus Folly Analysis
I think that this play is an example of a damning folly. The reason behind that is
that Faustus is not a good guy. It is also a damned folly because he sold his soul to
the Devil and that is not a good thing at all. I think that this play is kind of
confusing as well. Faustus said that he could not take it anymore and so he
decided to sell his soul to the Devil. I do not think that was good of him to do so.
He also said that he would do anything to stay with the Devil. I think that he should
have made a better decision when it came to his life. This play was to have specific
things about certain things. I do not know what else to think about. I think that
Faustus is also a romantic person. The reason behind that I because he was asking...

I would think that he would have changed so he could get accepted by God and Jesus.
That is only one of my opinions too. He would have made a better choice if he had
a bigger idea to. I also think that he is pretty good at doing specific things. I know
that is one thing. I do not know what else to say. He has an idea for everything and
every action he does. He does not do that much now that he sold his soul to the
devil. I think that he could have been better. I find it interesting that I could do
stuff like that as well. I also like the way that you can do something that makes up
yourself. He has pretty good understanding skills too. He is very detailed on some
things. I can also say that he is a good person at some times in his old life. I think
that this play is a screaming example of a damning folly. I think that Faustus cared
more about the devil than God and Jesus as well. I do not see why though but he
has his own reasons behind it. He chose his actions as well. I think that he is a bad
influence. I would like to learn more about it. I want to find more details about it
as well. He is not a good person but he is a great thinker. He is a thinker of choices.
I think that he has a not so good attitude. I want to say that he coul do plenty of
things that he wants to do. He is a pretty good thinker and a good personality person.
He is plenty of thinks but an influence is not one. That is what
53. Evolution Of Nanoscale Science And Technology
In the last twenty years Nanoscience and Nanotechnologies have become more
significant and have found a lot of applications in many aspects; the synthesis making
nanostructured materials with helpful and tunable properties is central to the
evolution of nanoscale science and technology. Nanometre scale metal particles
exhibit optical, electronic, magnetic and chemical properties which have wonderful
technological and scholar value. Among them silver, copper, and gold nanoparticles
(NP) offer powerful adsorption bands (Localised Surface Plasmon Resonance, LSPR)
in the visual spectrum. The frequency of the LSPR is mightily dependent on
various properties of the NP. The optical properties of metal NP are mightily
affected by their composition, shape, size, and concerning climate, like the
closeness of other particles. These nano particles, in a collective surround the core,
will do a shell. Metal nanoshells have shown formidable troth for systematic
engineering of SPR. These are composite nanoparticles that make of a dielectric
core covered with a few nanometers to a little tens of nanometers of a metal,
ordinarily gold or silver. The SPR of these nanoparticles may be alteration over
hundreds of nanometers in wavelength, across the visible and into the infrared region
of the electromagnetic spectrum by the relative dimensions of the core and the shell.
Firstly, the fabricated unclosed nanoshell composite SiO2@ Au Cu was made by
chemical methods for different cases.
54. Sophomore Year Letters
Dear 2017 2018 Sophomores,
I m writing this letter to you to let you know what to expect for your sophomore year.
I will be giving you some advice for some of the classes you will have to take in 10th
grade. It is your second year in highschool and you still have a while till you graduate
so you still have to try your best. So the classes we will be talking about is English
10 with Mrs. Ladwigs, Speech with Mr. Oakander, Health with MissMaresh, Spanish
2 with Miss Messerer, Fitness training (weight lifting) with Mr. Worm, Economic
and Business Law with Miss Gestring, Geography and American History with Mr.
Vanwinkle, Biology with Mr. Carmichael, and Geometry with Backstrom. I am going
to give you some tips to help you in those classes.
So ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Vanwinkle are honestly god awful. I m just trying, to be honest here kids. When
you have time to study and work on your homework, I suggest you do that because
other wise you will get jewed on in that class. He gives you lots of homework, and
there are lots of notes too. MAKE SURE YOU SAVE YOUR WORDS OF THE
DAYS! You will need them at the end of both semesters.
Biology with Mr. Carmichael is not so bad. He teaches you very well and explains
things to you so that you will understand. There are a lot of notes but you will be
fine if you write them down. Because they help you out a lot and most of your
homework will rely on your homework. Study a lot before the quizzes and tests
because trust me you will need the studying. The labs are honestly not so bad so just
finish them and get them turned it and you will do great in Biology!
Last class, I will be giving advice to you for is Geometry with Mrs. Backstrom.
Some of you don t need this advice because you probably already took this class
your freshman year (Smart alecks), but for the ones that haven t taken it here you
go. Advice listens to the teacher when she is explaining stuff, don t be afraid to ask
questions on tests, and get your homework done no matter what. You take notes like
every day but they honestly help you out a lot. So put those big boy/ girl pants on
and sit your butt down in your desk and

Clinicians frequently assess movement performance during a trunk rotation task to
observe
19 biomechanical deficits. The degeneration of the sensory (Brumagne et al., 2004)
and motor systems (Horak et
20 al., 1989) is inevitable as age increases; thereby altered movement and/or postural
control in older adults is
21 apparent.(Pyykko et al., 1990) For example, compared to younger adults, older
adults show less rotational
22 ROM of the cervical spine (Trott et al., 1996) and of the thoracic spine (Baird and
Van Emmerik, 2009) during
23 axial trunk rotation while standing as well as in sitting (Doriot and Wang, 2006). A
comprehensive

exists during daily activities. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
