BACKGROUND PAPER
ON
SERBIA
1. Serbia has been the primary mover of regional affairs in the Balkan Peninsula for
the past 30 years. This paper will briefly discuss Serbia s history and myth, its
involvement in regional unrest, its religion and spiritual ties, how those ties
encourage its behavior, and the United States actions in the region in an attempt to
keep the peace and develop Serbia into a stabilizing force for the region.
2. In 1989 Slobodan Milosevic came to power in the Socialist Republic of Serbia,
then one of six republics that made up the federation of Yugoslavia, on a platform
that aggravated the ethnic tension in the region.1 In 1991 three of the six
republics declared independence from Yugoslavia, followed by a fourth in 1992.2
Milosevic launched military campaigns and when the fighting ceased in 1995. The
two remaining republics, Serbia and Montenegro, formed the Federal Republic of
Yugoslavia.3 In 1997, Serbia began a brutal campaign that involved the massacre
of hundreds of civilians, mostly ethnic Albanians, in the region of Kosovo.4
Milosevic was ousted in 2000 and the nation was once again reorganized in 2003.5 In
2006, Montenegro seceded, followed by Kosovo in 2008; a declaration Serbia refuses

Religion is deeply rooted in Serbia s history and is to blame for much of the violence
the nation has seen recently.7 The people adopted Orthodox Christianity in the late
9th century.8 The church played an instrumental role in helping the Serbsmaintain a
national identity during nearly five hundred years of Ottoman rule.9 In Serbia, each
ethnic group has also been divided along religious lines. This distinction is largely to
blame for the ethnic violence in the region; especially in Kosovo.10 Today, Serbia is
predominantly Serbian Orthodox Christian at 84.6 percent, followed by Catholic (5
percent), Muslim (3.1 percent Kosovo is 95.6 percent Muslim11), and Protestant 1
The Importance Of Human Nature In Cory Doctorow s
Little...
Cory Doctorow s Little Brother is an excellent novel that combines technology and
rebellion all into one book. A group of teenagers living in San Francisco become
prisoners of a terrorist attack investigation when they are arrested and brought to an
island by the Department of Homeland Security. They are treated awfully despite not
having committed a single crime. The main character, Marcus, deems it is in his
hands to take down the DHS and get revenge for what they ve done. The Bay Bridge
bombing and terrorist attack, the awful treatment of the characters by the DHS, and
Marcus good efforts to seek revenge, all have an impact on human nature. Doctorow s
novel shows how acts of conflictcan expose the cruelty of human nature as they can
inflict tremendous pain on the vulnerable, but sometimes they can even cause a
positive outcome. Organizing a terrorist attack reveals one s true human nature
simply by having created such a vicious and cruel conflict. Within the beginning of
the novel, the Bay Bridge in San Francisco was bombed and thousands of people got
injured and many died. Having said that, one can infer just by recognizing the
situation at hand, that the person who orchestrated the attack, was not in a positive
mental state. Marcus, a character in the novel said, Terrorists don t hate landmarks or
bridges or airplanes. They just want to screw stuff up and make people scared
(Doctorow 73). Marcus emphasizes in this line that terrorists reveal their human

Essay on Low Carbohydrate Versus Low Fat Diets
The purpose of this essay is to compare Low carb and Low Fat diets and examine
their similarities and differences. Two studies in the New England Journal of
Medicine provide evidence that in the short term, a low carbohydrate diet helped
people lose weight without any adverse effects. In the last decade, several leading
nutritional scientists have taken the side effects into consideration. They have begun
to think that the low carb diet may be partly right about losing weight, and scientists
are now finally studying whether low fat dietsreally work. However, many people still
question the low carbohydrate diets long term effectiveness and choose to stick to the
traditional low fat diet. In the short... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And therefore, the fat does not get burnt off and there is no weight lost. On the
other hand, in the long term, most nutritional experts are wary of the low
carbohydrate diet s recommendations because of the dramatic, and possibly
hazardous, changes the diet can have on the body. Among the many concerns are
possible vitamin deficiencies, dehydration, gastrointestinal problems, and kidney,
heart and gallbladder disease. Some short term benefits from a low fat diet have
been documented, but similarly to the low carb diet, none have held up long term.
In the short term people lower their cholesterol by eating less fatty foods. It was
subsequently shown that saturated fats, as well as dietary cholesterol, elevate
plasma total and low density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol by down regulating the
LDL receptors in the liver. There is little doubt that Americans have improved their
health by lowering their dietary intake of fat. Low fat diets are often advocated for
weight reduction and to lower the risk of coronary heart disease and certain forms
of cancer. However in the short term, there is no universal agreement about the
value of low fat diets, because over time most people seem to gain the weight back.
In the long term, there have been several lasting effects of the Low fat diet. First,
low fat diets often cause an inadequate protein intake. Without protein our bodies can
t rebuild properly. Low fat diets also
Haskell s Portrayal Of Women In Reverence To Rape
In the excerpt Forties from the novel Reverence to Rape, Haskell examines the
portrayal of women in the films from the forties. American screenwriters during this
time portrayed female protagonists in a negative way. Women were displayed as
severely evil and immoral beings. This was a great contrast to the sexually and
morally free women in the films created in the thirties.
The Forties were a time where films were grim. What was interesting to me was the
relation to film noir. The films were very dark and focused on the negatives in
society. These films highlighted crime, mental illness, violence, and more. Due to the
large amounts of cynicism and depression in society, relationships were rooted in fear
and suspicion, impotence and inadequacy (Haskell, 196). Relationships were depicted
as con games, men tricked women and women tricked ... Show more content on

There was a large amount of infidelity and relationship woes being displayed by both
female and male protagonists in forties films.
The Forties began the era of the good girl vs the bad girl and the angel vs. the
devil. Some women were being put down in the films created in the forties. These
women were displayed as lacking high self esteem and were accepting of bad
treatment from men. These women were women in waiting ; those who would
sacrifice themselves for the love of a man. They were the good girls that were
walked all over by men. This contrasted with the bad women of the forties. These
women were con women. They were into criminal activity just as the men were and
would trick men or drag the men down with them. These women were viewed as
liars and treacherous. The bad girls were viewed as beings with no soul who lacked
morality and emotions. Instead of aspiring
What Is The Executive Branch Of Government
According to the US Constitution, a successful government, particularly a
democracy, must have six basic principals to function while keeping the people
content and avoiding harsh dictatorship. These can be simplified into two main
beliefs. Firstly, that the hands of the people, a vast majority of the people, hold the
power of government. Secondly, that no one part or even all of the sections of
government may have complete rule in the country. Popular sovereignty allows the
majority of people to make decisions and change their country. This is very similar
to the consent of the governed, which defines itself and is also needed to avoid
people government conflicts. Overall, the people must be allowed freedoms that will
make them the origin of government power.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Instead, different parts, or what s called branches, of the government handle
separate topics. In the US, there is an executive branch, a judiciary branch, and a
legislative branch. The executive branch is the central power of the government, the
judiciary branch tries cases of law before punishment is handed (which is yet
another principal of government), and the legislative branch creates and votes on
laws. And each of these branches may overrule another in certain situations. For
example, the head of the executive branch in the US, the president, may veto or do
away with a law, but if the legislative branch has enough votes, they can keep that
law anyway. That is having what s called checks and balances, and prevents any one
part of government from becoming too strong and even

The Crucible Red Scare
Although at first glance The Crucible seems to be a playwright loosely based on a
writer s own take on The Salem Witch Trials, it actually is based on the events in
the 1950s called the Red Scare. The Red Scare was a series of events starting in
1919 and ending in the 1960s that shook America. The cause for the 1950 Red
Scare that inspired most of the work in The Crucible comes from a man named
Joseph McCarthy who was a former American Senator. Senator McCarthy was one
of a few who lead the investigations and allegations during the Red Scare and
prospered because of it. McCarthy s false claims and anti red crusade are what
inspired some of the events that are seen in The Crucible and give the reader a sense

Many people including a well renowned witchcraft expect, John Hale, are even
questioning the proof of the court and the very little evidence they can play with.
Even in the book are main character John Proctor says I say God is dead! since he
can no further convince the court of his and others innocence as well as the
guiltiness of the girls. And as we ultimately know John Proctor is then accused and
hung later on. Ultimately after the witch trials ended the legal system in
Massachusetts recognised the trials as being trialed wrongfully and those who
were sentenced to hang, such as John Proctor, were now deemed innocent. This to
happened during the Red Scare as McCarthy was to be a liar and was wrongfully
accusing others and getting them thrown into jail, luckily no one was executed
during the Red Scare. The people were stunned to see that one of their own, a
government man, had been faking the whole ordeal in order to become a senator.
This is what also brings up other factors of play such distrust towards the judges by
certain characters due to their incompetence too see the false witcher the girls are

Muslims Should Not Be Banned In The United States
Let them in! No Muslim Ban! Immigrants welcomed! This is what many protesters
screamed as they stood outside the White House. The ban on Muslims took
Americans by surprise, although this was not the first time he had mentioned it.
Before his presidency, Donald Trump mentioned that he would impose a ban on
Muslims. Most people doubted him, but his vision soon became a reality. Many
people believe that this ban violated the Muslims human rights to not be
discriminated against, and the right to a nationality. As stated in The Universal
Declaration of Human Rights , no one should be discriminated and human rights
belong to everyone no matter how different they are. When Donald Trumppassed the
ban against Muslims in the United States, this was a clear sign of discrimination. In

Tuesdays With Morrie, By Mitch Albom
Throughout the novel Tuesdays With Morrie, the author, Mitch Albom, reflects on
his Tuesday meetings with his old professor, now consumed with a terminal illness,
and, using many rhetorical choices, reveals The Meaning of Life, which they
discussed profusely and divided into several categories. Topics such as Death,
Emotions, Aging, Money, Forgiveness, and more are all discussed in their weekly
conferences, Morrie passing on his wisdom to one of his favorite students. And
Albom, writing about their talks, uses numerous rhetoric devices to discuss this
wisdom. As Morrie Schwartz, dying of ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), speaks
with Albom, the two talk about Death. Describing the discussion, Albom uses
strategies such as irony filled dialogue and existential oxymoron to divulge Morrie
s wisdom and opinions on death, dying, and how the world perceives it all. Morrie
says to Mitch at the very beginning of their discussion, everyone knows they re
going to die, but nobody believes it... If we did, we would do things differently.
Experiencing death himself, knowing that he has run out of years, the old professor
can no longer run from death, and instead knows and accepts it as an inevitable fact.
The irony lies in the fact that everyone ignores this reality, and the saying appeals to
the logos of the audience because it is widely held as truth that, as a whole, humans
ignore death. However, Morrie says that if people didn t, they would have completely

How Medical Knowledge Has Changed Over Time
Throughout the years medical knowledge has changed over time and is still

we now know things we didn t before, for example new and advanced medical

The Hippocratic Medicinetime period was named after a great ancient Greek
physician. His name was Hippocratesand was known as ВЁthe father of medicineВЁ.
According to crystalalinks.org: Hippocrates was the first physician who considered
medicine to be science and was not part of religion. According to Science
Museum.org: Hippocratic Medicine is based on a natural philosophy the Greeks had
been developing since 500 BCE. The philosophy used careful observation, logical
deduction, experiments, and keeping a record. In the time period, the doctors were
cautious and doubtful. They summed up a view with their famous saying ВЁ The art

Cumbia in Mexican Culture Essay
Cumbia serves as a unifier of Mexican people, especially families, and serves as a
sociocultural outlet for celebration and upholds cultural traditions. A main theme of
Mexican culture is togetherness of the family, and many celebrations create a
community and place for family involvement. Celebrating together creates and
maintains bonds and is an outlet for expression sharing commonalities such as
cultural thoughts and ideas. Solidifying a connection in the community with people
that listen to cumbia strengthens the cultureand forms unity. Mexican cumbia is a
significant aspect of Mexican identity and produces a gateway environment for

The main aspects that have changed: the instrumentation, the style, the tempo, and the
dance movements. The time signatures of the two types of cumbias are the start of
where the change begins. The basics of Colombian cumbia are described as, Its
essential elements, the tambor drums and enormous gaita flutes, combine to give the
music a rolling, infectious 2/4 beat... (Morales 253) . In Mexico, the cumbia is a very
popular modern dance in 4/4 from Colombia... (Nevin 137) Jackie Garcia, born in
Mexico but raised in the United States, says when listening to the two types she can
tell them apart by the speed of the music. The Colombian cumbia and Mexican
cumbia are different because the Colombian cumbia goes a lot faster. It s marked
faster by the tempo compared to the Mexican one (Garcia, Jackie). Not only has the
tempo changed but also the instrumentation which leads to a style variation, from
very rhythmically based feel to a lighter, smoother feel. The Colombian music is
heavy on the tambora, a type of drum, while the Mexican style emphasizes trumpets
and horns (Wisner 65) With the style change also brings a difference in dance
technique. The Colombian cumbia was heavily influenced by the African and
indigenous peoples, giving the dance focus in the hips, with a swaying movement.
The Mexican dance may get confused with other genres such as salsa, because the

The Utopian Society In Plato s Republic
The first work describing a utopian society was Plato s Republic. It is a description
of a society with an environment as preferable and equal as one could imagine.
Also, the Republic consists of a model for social, governmental, legislative and
resource distribution rules necessary for the society to keep its sustainability.
Characterized by its fixed system of social classesthe model of society that is
presented in Republic could be perceived by contemporary standards as dystopian.
Taking into account the hardship of every day life in the ancient world it would
have been desirable to have a social classof highly educated altruistic philosopher

system that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For that reason, not only does the Republic give us complete image of a Utopian
society, but also provides us with first elements of social education. Thus, people
drew inspiration for their lives, to live better and make that life better for other people.
Plato s society in Republic draws generously from his philosophies regarding morality
and justice.
Justice was of special interest to Plato. The Greek word for justice that Plato used
was Dikaisyne which translated would mean morality or righteousness , suggesting
the duty of man. Plato contended that justice is the quality of soul, in virtue of
which men set aside the irrational desire to taste every pleasure and to get a selfish
satisfaction out of every object and accommodated themselves to the discharge of a
single function for the general benefit. (Bhandari 2014)
Morality is for Plato interconnected with justice. He views justice as human good
along favouring its transcendent value. He also believes that justice serves to guide
and inform one s morality. (Hopkins
Chinese Discrimination In America
The presentation in class by Ricky Thao has thought me a lot about Chinese
Americans. Chinese Americans, who are one of the largest minorities in the Asian
community, have a long history, culture and have faced discrimination in America
like many other minorities. The Chinese Americans history began during the colonial
era when many minorities started moving to the U.S. seeking job opportunities and a
better life. Throughout the history they have influenced the country in many ways
and their culture has become a part of the American culture. Also like other
minorities, they have gone through a lot of struggles to make a name for themselves.
And through the presentation and the information I gathered I was able to learn

The Production And Iconography Of A Choson Buddhist

(1392 1910). Hanging scroll, colors and gold on silk, 69.5 x 33cm.
Production of the painting
When observing this painting, Sakyamuni Buddha is seen seated on a tall throne,
surrounded by two standing bodhisattvas. All three figures have similar small sharp
features such as elongated faces, small mouths, high arched eyebrows, and slanted
downcast eyes. The standing bodhisattvas look graceful with their relaxed shoulders

Golden cloud looking rays stem from the Buddha s halo, and a faint lotus flower
drawn in gold ink can be seen above the Buddha s head.
The colors used in this painting are low in saturation. In addition to gold, different
hues of neutral green and red brown are used. It could be said that lead oxide was
used to create the red brown color for this painting, especially for the bold detailing
seen on the garment of the three figures. Malachite green is used in the halos and
garments of the two standing bodhisattvas. For the inscription, textile patterns, and
details of ornaments, glue is mixed with gold powder to create a texture that is
neither too thin nor too thick. This glue and gold powder concoction is also used to
cover all the exposed parts of the figures bodies. Against the somber hues, the gold
stands out and the viewer is immediately drawn to the central image of the Buddha
and the faces of the two bodhisattvas. However, the painter has used the gold
carefully in this painting so that the overall color scheme is subtle.
Iconography of the painting
The right hand of Buddha Sakyamuni calls the earth to witness his enlightenment.
Sakyamuni is known as the founder of faith, however, after the evolution of the
Mahayana pantheon and the multiplication of Buddhas, many doctrines claimed to
have their own Buddhas, for example, the Vairocana Buddha of the Avatamsaka sect.

Validity for using the Absorption or Variable Costing Method In the case, it is more
advantageous to use absorption costing than the variable costing because it is a
simpler method of providing accurate record for the external reporting for a highly
unstable manufacturing volume in the manufacturing company. More importantly,
the absorption costing provides more accurate picture of cash flow of an organization
since the organization will add unsold product to the sale mount of the next fiscal
year. (Walther, 2013).With the absorption costing, the organization will be able to
transfer the cost of inventory to the costs of goods sold making the organization to
reduce the gross profit. The rational behind using the absorption costing is that firms
will be able to measure the products as complete costs. (Noreen, E.W. Brewer, P.C.
Garrison, R.H. (2013).
The shortcoming of absorption costing is that it does not always provide the best
signal on the strategy to price a product. Moreover, absorption costing assigns both
fixed and variable manufacturing costs to products and mix them that makes
management to face challenges to distinguish between the two costs.
The report provides the benefits of the absorption and variable costing to reveal how
the two costing methods enhance managerial decision.

The Play Heidi Holland
Throughout three decades Heidi Holland, a curator, essayist, and feminist, fought to
improve women s status in society. The sixties, the seventies, and the eighties were
the times on her life described in these duo acts. The scenes in this play allow
readers to understand the lifestyle she lived, the choices and friendships she made,
and the experiences she had and how they had affected her.
This play follows Heidi from the time she develops an interest in men to the time
she gives up on them and adopts a child to fulfill her need to have a family. Heidi is a
very reserved character in many ways. She is indecisive with her decisions
because her own desires are not what she is expected to do in the era in which she
is born into. In Act 1 Scene 2, Heidi attends a dance and meets a man that goes by
the name Scoop Rosenbaum. It seems very clear that she does not want to speak to
him, but instead of directly telling him to skedaddle, Heidi gives him a false name.
What she doesn t realise is that she had a name tag on her and Scoop, being the

music has experienced a radical increase in popularity in the last five years. In the
year 2000, rap became the second best selling genre in music, capturing 12.9 percent
of the year s $14.3 billion in total record sales ( Rap/Hip Hop Sc 1). Though rap is
no stranger to criticism, that criticism has increased in both quantity and
vociferousness at about the same rate as the number of rap albums climbing the
charts. And the growing evidence that, apparently, in order to achieve commercial
success, each rap album must be more negative and offensive than the last does not
help to address these criticisms. Unfortunately, the critics miss most of the... Show

The genre s performers and audience were predominantly black in its early phases,
though there was a significant Latino minority (Smitherman Sc 1), and it
originated as the response of these marginalized groups to the commercial music of
the period. Afrika Bambaataa, one of hip hop s founders and leader of the Zulu
Nation (a hip hop clique), once said, The Bronx wasn t into radio music no
more....Hip hop was against the disco that was being played on the radio (Stern
412). The hip hop community also developed responses to other aspects of disco
culture: Athletic gear in place of leisure suits and breakdancing in place of disco
dancing. Graffiti art also became intertwined with hip hop early on, and the music
became a celebration of the three art forms that comprise hip hop culture graffiti,
break dancing, and the music itself (Smitherman Sc 1, Costello 22). The mid 1980 s
saw the rise to marginal mainstream popularity of rap groups like Run DMC and the
Beastie Boys, who drew criticism for their relaxed treatment of sex, violence and, in
the case of the Beastie Boys, drugs. Indeed they had, if not lost sight of the music s
original aims completely, at least added these seemingly incongruous elements to it.
Then, in 1989, hip hop blew up in the mainstream with the introduction of
Leadership, Training, Staffing Employment And

In every organization there are some key roles like motivation, leadership, training,
staffing employment and developments which are performed by Human Resource
Management. These performances are deeply related with each other to the role of
leadership and motivations in the organizations. These are the basic and fundamental
functions in every organization as well as in the whole of human resource
management. It is also related with the role of leadership, motivation, and aims of
objectives of the organization. As per this chapter the human resource management
will be discussed thoroughly and as a result, it will be related with the role of
leadership and motivation in the organization. According to the aims and objects of
the study, this chapter will also discuss the literature in connection with the role of

The French Art Nouveau Movement And The
International...
Throughout history, the motifs and characteristics of graphic design have changed
tremendously. The unique qualities of poster designs from the French Art Nouveau
movement and the International Typographic Style both reflect their social
environments at the time. Henri de Toulouse Lautrec s La Goulue au Moulin Rouge
and Alphonse Mucha s Monaco Monte Carlo demonstrate the techniques and qualities
of the Art Nouveauera, while Josef MГјller Brockmann s Der Film and Neue Grafik
/ New Graphic Design / Graphisme actuel, no. 2 by Carlo L. Vivarelli demonstrate the
techniques and qualities of the International Typographic Style.
La Goulue au Moulin Rouge, a color lithograph created in 1891 by the French artist
Henri de Toulouse Lautrec, is a predominant design work which reflects the art of
the French Art Nouveau. Toulouse Lautrec was a prolific artist who created a great
number of paintings, drawings, etchings, lithographs, posters, and illustrations for
various newspapers (Funk Wagnalls). Toulouse Lautrec had flirted with
Impressionism in his adolescent works, absorbed the lessons of the Japanese
woodblock Ukiyo e prints and developed an immediately recognizable style with its
crisp articulation of form, abrupt truncations of compositional structures and vivid
colors used as much for emotional impact as for their descriptive value (Grishin 64).
One piece that specifically exemplifies those characteristics would be his poster, La
Goulue au Moulin Rouge. The poster was
The Realist Theory Of International Relations
When Arab spring started to influence various countries in Middle East and North
Africa with domino effect in 2010, Libya was one of these countries. There were
uprisings in the regions because of the bad economic conditions, lack of the
democracy, human rights, and people s demand for democracy of the cruel dictators.
The demands or discomforts were same in Libya, but process of the Muammar al
Gaddafis regime s end was different from others as it was intervened by coalition
states and NATO. Libya s intervene was carried out by the 1973 numbered resolution
of United Nations Security Council in March, 2011. The reasons of the intervention
were expanding democracy in the region, ending Gaddafi s violence through civilians
and changing the regime. However, unlike other interventions in international area, it
was quick and sudden. Therefore it was obvious that other than providing good life
conditions to Libyan people, there were also other purposes of the coalition states
through Libya s rich resources.
Realism theory
On the realist theory of International Relations, the basic assumption of this theory is
that states in their foreign affairs, must pursue power, and ensure that they act
rationally with the most appropriate step that will be taken to perpetuate the life of
the state in a hostile and threatening environment. A key principle of realist theory is
that of survival and it could be argued that in the domestic politics governments create
and enforce laws to

I am an international student from Republic of Kazakhstan. This country is located
in between Russia and China, and takes the 9th place by its area in the world. More
than twenty years ago my home country was a part of the Soviet Union. It is worth
to mention that we as a nation and an independent country have experienced a great
influence from the Russian Empire that had reflected on our culture, economy,
literature, science, and other aspects of life. However, being under the Soviet
pressure has brought a lot of negative consequences as well. One of them was nuclear

Due to failed attempts, tremendous amount of radioactive gases was released to the
atmosphere. As a result, the region (eastern part of the Kazakhstan, primarily
Semipalatinsk region) and nearest areas had become radioactive and not suitable for
further living conditions. Fortunately, there was one person who was able to prevent
inadequate exploitation of the environment and consistent emissions of the
radioactive waste into the atmosphere. His name is Olzhas Suleimenov. He is an
influential and widely admired figure in my country and the former representatives of
the Soviet Union. He turned to politics in the 1980s by founding the Nevada
Semipalatinsk antinuclear movement of 1989. This international environmental
movement was considered as one of the first large scale grassroots protests against
the actions of the Soviet government. Moreover, it played a major role in promoting
the eventual denuclearization of the Central Asian region. Nevada Semipalatinsk
campaign targeted to close nuclear sites in Nevada and in the Semipalatinsk Province
of Kazakhstan.
Suleimenov was among the first Eurasian intellectuals who raised awareness of
global climate change, non proliferation, and environmental challenges posed by
nuclear disarmament. Eventually, the Nevada Semipalatinsk movement galvanized
support for the closure of all nuclear testing facilities in Kazakhstan and contributed to
trends in nuclear disarmament, non proliferation, environmental awareness,
A Nation Is A Social Concept With No Uncontroversial...
Nation is a social concept with no uncontroversial definition, but which is most
commonly used to designate larger groups or collectives of people with common
characteristics attributed to them including language, traditions, customs, habits, and
ethnicity. A nation, by comparison, is more impersonal, abstract, and overtly political
than an ethnic group. It is a cultural political community that has become conscious
of its autonomy, unity, and particular interests.
According to Ford s National Question: a nation is not a racial or tribal, but a
historically constituted community of people; a nation is not a casual or ephemeral
conglomeration, but a stable community of people ; a nation is formed only as a
result of lengthy and systematic intercourse, as a result of people living together
generation after generation ; and, in its entirety: a nation is a historically constituted,
stable community of people, formed on the basis of a common language, territory,
economic life, and psychological make up manifested in a common culture.
The nation has been described by Benedict Anderson as an imagined community and
by Paul James as an abstract community . It is an imagined community in the sense
that the material conditions exist for imagining extended and shared connections. It
is an abstract community in the sense that it is objectively impersonal, even if each
individual in the nation experiences him or herself as subjectively part of an
embodied unity with others.
Symbolism In Ethan Frome
There are a quite a few short stories, novels, and poetry that uses things to represent
something else. This is also known as symbolism. Stories and novels such as Their
Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston, The Most dangerous Game by
Richard Connell, and The Giver by Lois Lowry. These novels consist a great deal of
symbols. Also, these symbols may have more than one meaning to them. In the novel
Ethan Frome ,there are many different things that symbolizes something. The
symbols that are found in the novel, Ethan Frome , is the cat, the dead cucumber vine
and the pickle dish. In chapter five, the cat represents Zeena. In the chapter, Ethan

Satire In Mean Girls
Mean Girls is a critically acclaimed movie known for its benevolent satire that
circulates around the reality and cruelty of high school life featuring social status,
class, gender and race in today s society.
The beginning of the movie starts out with the main character Cady Heron, venturing
to her first day of being at an actual American high school after being home schooled
in Africa all her life. She experiences a severe culture shock just on her first day
once she realizes everyone isn t as friendly and open as they may have been in

Polar Bears Dealing With Climate Change
How are polar bears dealing with climate change? Let me tell you. Polar Bears food
is diminishing, fast. According to National Geographic, the population of polar
bears has dropped 40 percent from 2001 2010. Here are strategies that polar bears
have adapted too.
Putting Leftovers on Ice
Polar bears have been trapping food and eating it later, which is unusual for them.
However, because food keeps declining, this won t last long.
Surf and Turf on the Menu
Polar bears rely on snow geese now as backup food. Their eggs are equivalent to
eating one stick of butter. Additionally, seaweed, fish and whale carcasses are on the
menu, but unfortunately that is not enough for them. This diet is not enough for
polar bears to survive as a whole.

Indoor Mold Research Paper
Mold: A type of fungus that thrives in dark, damp environments. It grows year
round, both indoors and out. Living or working in a space with significant mold
growth increases risk of numerous health problems, most of which are respiratory in
nature. It is therefore essential to eradicate mold in the home or work space as soon
as it s found, and to take measures to ensure it does not grow back.
Rainbow Environmental Services in Fairfax, OH, specializes in mold removal and

father, and a young child are all taking a drive down the road. One second
everything is happy, there are smiles all around and small bickering among the
parents which takes their attention away from the road for only a second . All of a
sudden the sounds of screeching and screaming fills the air. Crushed glass covers
the ground while smoke rises from the engine of the car. As it begins to fade away,
it becomes clear what the cause of the sudden crash is. Because even though there
was only one child in there car, two are laying on the ground covered in scrapes

Effects Of Gene Therapy On Children And The Existence
Of...
Imagine a world where wheel chairs do not exist or the illnesses that cause the
mandatory use of wheel chairs are wiped out. The advancement in science that is
being used to explore the possibilities to prevent or cure human disease is called
gene therapy. The purpose of gene therapy is to remove or reverse the mutation of
the cells in an embryo or a child, thus eliminating the disease from the child and the
existence of the disease. With this advancement in science, children who are
diagnosed with an inherited death sentence or an illness that will cause suffering
within their life span are given a second chance. The support of gene therapy would
give hope to parents who suffer from the horrifying decision of pulling the plug on
their young children who suffer from inherited illnesses. In addition, instead of
allowing ourselves to endure the guilty conscious of knowing our children have a
high chance of contracting a genetic illness, it s time for legislation around the world
to fund the eradication of illnesses from embryos. Critics claim that the future of gene
therapy will result in unborn children being treated as products when the parent
imposes on their children s natural life skills and physical features ( Human
Enhancement: The New Eugenics. ). Also, ethicists worry that the process of
successfully tinkering with an embryo opens doors to strive for perfect humans.
Although there is the potential for the reemergence of eugenics and the creation of

human beings. The plot takes place in 1994 at a sandwich factory and we meet the
narrator who works there. Through him we get the impression that the employees are
no longer considered humans or individuals, but just one of many. The factory
threatens to turn human beings into machines by thwarting the development of their
emotions and imaginations and in the end of the story the narrator realizes that he

An Analysis Of The Aleph By Jorge Luis Borges

analysis The Aleph is a short story by Jorge Luis Borges. According to the story,
The Aleph is the first letter of the Hebrew alphabet, it is also said that it takes the
shape of a man pointing to both heaven and earth, in order to show that the lower
world is the map and mirror of the higher, it is the symbol of transfinite numbers, of
which any part is as great as the whole. (Borges,1945). The author, narrator, tried to

Readers may find difficulties in identifying what the story is about at the first place
and the images created by the author does not illustrate centralizing conception. On
the other hand, author used ambiguity which is new criticism and seems tried to
give the idea of looking through the glass from the other side. Complexity is in
great extent in the story, especially when the writer switches and focuses on Carlos
Argentino describing him as an unimpressive and an authoritative individual,
therefore this leaves the reader in a confusion state as the essay tries to combine
different issues in one understanding (Borges, 1945). The author seems to turn his
attention to Carlos as he tries and the reader feels no underpinning or interlocking
of the meaning reinforcing the paraphrase expected to be made also the association
of the properties in the essay sounds complex for one to comprehend. The most
impressive part of the story is ironic how the author views Daneri s work; he
suggests that the work did not lay in poetry but in his invention of reasons for

Observing The Impact Of Oil Prices
Introduction In the last six months of 2014 the price of crude oil experienced a
dramatic decline from over $100 per barrel to around $50 per barrel. Further oil
price declines throughout 2015 and into 2016 saw oil plunge to less than $30 per
barrel. This drastic reduction in price hurt the profit margins of oil extraction
companies, leading to several phases of reduction in operating activity and
investment, as well as sizeable employee layoffs. According to Barrionuevo
(2016:2), approximately 50% of the jobs in the greater Houston area are energy

What Is The Navy s Role In Persuasion
When reading Persuasion, the reader quickly becomes captivated by the romantic
notion of the novel, and is immersed in the lives of Anne and Captain Wentworth as
they rekindle a lost connection. Besides writing a captivating love story, Austen also
makes direct and indirect commentary about the ethos of her time, and plenty to make
any social scientist interested. Nonetheless, whatever Austen s commentary on her
society is, she utilizes the Navy to convey many of her ideas.
As Albert Camus once said, Fiction is the lie through which we tell the truth. The idea
of what truths Austen was trying to convey has been altered over the years, and
scholars have developed different opinions as to what Austen sought to convey
regarding society. Through examination of the Navy s role in Persuasion, scholars at

Sailors work hard enough for their comforts, we must all allow. (20). Through this

Through the lens of nationalist view, one can observe the great respect of the
English people for the Navy at the time since the Navy had been imperative to the
victory of the English, and the military had seen most of its success at sea (Drum

commentary and Austen s criticism of her era s ethos. Anne Elliot s respect for the
Navy and her perspective that the men of the Navy have equal claim to the comforts
of a home can be seen as Austen claiming that equality should be respected regardless
of status. (Solinger

The researcher opines that by increasing prices a rise in the ADR can be achieved
since it is a sum total of room revenue multiplied by occupancy %. However, while
the prices are increased the existing guest may be resistance to pay the increased
price with the same facilities provided by the hotel.
Another potential issue with choosing this alternative of increasing prices would be
the percentage by which the price rises are raised for the product. Having used the
quantitative techniques on the ADR of Ritz Carlton found that a 9% increase in the
ADR was considerably alike to present average of the ADR. This means that an

The Philippine Philippines Culture And Culture Essay
The Philippines is a country deeply rooted in culture. The Army defines culture as a
dynamic social system containing the values, beliefs, behaviors, and the norms of a
specific group, organization or society or other collectively learned, shared,
internalized, and changeable by all members of the society (FM 3 24
COUNTERINSURGENCY, 2006). Cultures have different characteristics which
consist of shared, learned, symbols, integrated and dynamic. Culture
The Philippine islands are broken into three main geographical locations, Luzon,
Visayas and Mindanao travelers from all three locations share the culture by moving
from one place to another or just by visiting family or friends that have moved,
culture is also shared by the schools or institutions that foreigners attend in the
Philippines. The Philippine eagle is the national bird, which is a symbol of the
Philippines. Learning the culture come from being raised within the community
which is a part of one s upbringing or living amongst a community in order to learn
their culture. Integrated culture deals with learning a culture in its entirety and
understanding every portion of that particular culture comes together. The dynamic
characteristic explains how a culture change due to interactions with other cultures
and when one piece of a culture change, if integrated the culture could change
altogether. Physical Geography and Weather Analysis

Night Sky Constellation Research
Constellations are pictures or shapes that ancient people discovered in the night
sky. Some of the most popular constellations are the twelve Zodiac signs. Another
famous constellation is Orion, or The Hunter . I chose to write about Orion
because personally I love the story of how his constellation came to be. He is one
of the main constellations I always notice in the night sky. The story of Orion is
that he was a talented hunter. He was determined to rid the Earth of all wild
animals. However this angered Gaia, the Earth goddess. She released a scorpion on
Orion. Soon Orion discovered he could not defeat the scorpion and jumped into the
sea. Later on Apollo noticed a black spot in the sea and dared Artemis that she could
not hit it with her bow and arrow. She stood up to the challenge and hit the... Show

Once when Orion was young he met a girl. Almost immediately he felt like he was
in love. He promised the young girl he would always watch over her with his
strong hunting skills and the help of his dogs Canis Major and Canis Minor. Many
months had passed as the affection between the two prospered. One day the young
girl s father discovered the two in an orchard declaring love for one another. He
became enraged and banned the young lovers from continuing this affair. However
they still managed. The young girl s mother supported the two and helped them
betray the rulings of her father. The mother took the two to a nearby Province and
committed them into marriage. The following day the mother explained all of this to
the father, hoping to turn around his previous judgement. Without word the father
packed the young girl s trunk and shipped her far away from Orion and his love for
her. Both lovers were devastated by this new development. They attempted to keep in
touch until all connection was cut off between the two but the young girl s
The Spillovers Of Socialist Policies
The spillovers of socialist policies in a developing country: Venezuela
Marco Padilla
POS 438
Flagler College
Venezuela is a third world country with an interesting and unique political and
economic history. Ever since the collapse of the Gran Colombia in 1830, Venezuela
has been ruled by military leaders (CIA, 2013). Since the mid 1950s, a wave of
democratically elected regimes took over in which Venezuela flourished and became
one of the few leading economic powers in the Latin American region (CIA, 2013).
With large oil revenues funding the government, the country s political and economic
institutions became effective and what was once a military oppressed environment
became a thriving and liberalized economy. Unfortunately,... Show more content on

Since 1999, the socialist regime has failed to fulfill its promises. With the country on
the edge of a civil war, the current concerns were related to the deteriorating economy
of the country. With political polarization, violent crime, inflation risk, and weak
democratic institutions, Chavez s 21st Century Socialism is showing no stability or
positive outlooks for the future. Holding on to the many promises Chavez had made,
the Venezuelan people and the rest of the world were alarmed by what was to occur
to the country.
In order to understand the current economic problems Venezuela faces, a thorough
analysis of its past must be made. To begin with, Venezuela holds the largest crude
oil reserves in the world (CIA, 2013) thus making Venezuela s economy dependent
on revenue extraction from the oil industry. The economic problems arose as public
debt increased due to excessive government spending. Also, small minimum wage
growth coped with decrease in the supply of products and capital has led to having
one of the highest inflation levels in Latin America. In the Dragons in the Tropics ,
Venezuela s political and economic revolution is perfectly explained. This book
shows the transformation of Venezuela from being a pluralistic democracy into a
hybrid regime (Corrales, 2011). Hybrid regimes rule in two ways: they mechanize
their way to power through democratic elections but perform autocratic and dictatorial

reach the international status or five star Hotel status. Hotel International started
taking changing few established policies of Roaring Dragon Hotel, though the
intention was to succeed, but those policies resulted in loss and also did not help to
improve the quality standards, main cause being conflict between the employees of
RDH and HI management.
After RDH was taken over by HI, and since it was a Chinese hotel the its
relationship with the families was given more importance and they were treated
friendly with respect, (Grainger, 2008) but after the contract everything changed,
they were not treated friendly which led to depression among the employees. RDH
staff was facing lots of issues like working for long hours under HI and they were
feeling the pressure and fear of being laid off in case they don t work and much of
the staff which was working for past 30 years had to speak in English, all these
factors also lead few of them to start looking at opportunities outside RDH.
The turnover rate at RDH should have be reduced, HI should have taken care of the
staff with little more respect. They should also have appointment managers who at
least had done their education in the west but whose roots are

Rudolf Virchow s Impact On Modern Biological Sciences
Rudolf Virchow could be considered one of the greatest biologists of 19th century,
and perhaps even of all history. His abundance of work is also mostly accurate,
sparing a couple minor and major misconceptions. He has even received an award
for his efforts. This pathologist has greatly impacted modern biological sciences.
Before one learns his achievements, it is imperative to know his early years. On
October 13, 1821, Rudolf Virchow was born in rural Pomerania, an area in Prussia.
He lived as an only child (Kearl, 2015). As a child, he had a fascination of the
natural world. Virchow earned a great education because of his gift of intelligence (
Virchow, Rudolf Carl, 2015). Originally, Virchow sought to be a pastor. He
abandoned this thought... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of his biggest discoveries is the formation of cells. In 1855, Virchow stated
that cells are made from other cells, which is still proven to be true today. He is not
considered the first person to state this, but once he suggested this many other
scientists took this thought seriously. Prior to this, it was understood that
imbalances in the body produced a substance called blastema, which caused cells
to be made. He is attributed to performing the first organized autopsy, which is now
a common medical practice. The discovery of Leukemia is also accredited to him.
In 1847, Rudolf and a fellow physician, Benno Reinhardt, published their own
scientific journal. In said journal, the two asserted that medical practices should be
based on only well proven science. The duo rejected several contemporary medical
practices that had been around for ages, such as Galen s use of humors which was
later proven to be incorrect (Doc, 2015). He later began to publish textbooks such
as Cellular Pathology (Titford, 2015). Virchow also was an advocate of the
improvement of public health for all social classes. In the medical science field,
Virchow made an abundance of other discoveries. He published more than 2,000
scientific books and papers throughout his life, mainly in microscopic pathology. The

By Definition Miracles Do Not Occur Essay
By Definition Miracles Do Not Occur
Even in this modern age, belief in the miraculous is widespread and is a feature of
many world religions, including the Christian faith where miracles have played a
significant role.
It is important attempt to define what a miracle is, as this in itself is a source for
debate. Today the term miracle in many different ways and the idea is open to many
interpretations.
A miracle can be defined in a number of ways, firstly as an unexpected change for
the better. This centres miracles in people s treatment of each other, not necessarily
demanding the idea of a creator God, although it can be interpreted as being God s
action (here a change can be deemed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is with this definition of miracles that the majority of arguments occur, with
some claiming them to be obvious signs of God s reality and active presence
within the world, with some such miracles being incorporated in arguments for
religious experience. We see examples of such RSSE in the gospels. For many
Christian s miracles, demonstrate God s care for his creation and show God s
willingness to intervene to change things for the better. Such examples of RSSE are
not confined to the times of Jesus, but have occurred in the fairly recent past
especially in the Catholic Church (who undertake a strict procedure in ascertaining
the validity of miracles) e.g. Lourdes, The miraculous recovery of John Fagen, which
lead to the sainthood of John Ogillve etc.
Scholars such as Hume, and scientists such as Dawkins, believe that miracles have
natural explanations and are only seen as miraculous due to ignorance (as science
advances forward so faith retreats). They believe that there are no real miracles but
events that can be better explained in scientific terms (the plagues, walking on water
etc) or are simply fabricated.
The German scholar Rudolf Bultmann took a similarly sceptical view of miracles
and argued that the world view of the Bible was unacceptable in a modern, scientific
age. Bultmann reasoned that the

money was dwindling and the banks were unable to transfer. They and many like
them were faced with the problem of real hunger. Mr. Mattar visited the bank daily,
but nothing was coming through. A day came when they finished the last of their
food for breakfast. So Mr. Mattar gathered his nine children around him and read to

How I Contributed to the Teams Project
From the beginning of the live marketing project, Edmond s Historical Museum, to
the end of the live presentation, I committed 100% of myself to the team by being
actively involved. My first contribution was visiting the Edmond s Historical
Museum on September 28th, 2017 where I gathered notes by effectively listening to
Katie Kelly. This was for the purpose of being able to analyze the data at a later time.
The data research that I was able to gleam from Katie, included that the museum is
seeing a decline in their memberships, there was not enough volunteers to actively
seek out renewals, and a majority of the Edmond s transplants moved changing the
demographics, and that new exhibits would come ... Show more content on

I am trying to gather all the data and Kellen is going to place the information on the
table. Any help would be greatly appreciated! I attached an example of a table that
James put together and my slides are with James. However, here is the information.
Please note, we will need to add the WA Historical Museum to our other data. The
email to the team included information within the email and I even created a word
document explaining and emphasizing with step by step directions what our
Professor Tito expected from us in development and improvement. I personally felt it
was clear and concise information that was provided. However, there was some
confusion, Kellen was unable to complete the tables and due to scheduling conflicts,
we were unable to connect via conference. Instead on Saturday, November 18, 2017
10:36 a.m., I created the format, with tables, for the google slides. Called Lisa for
assistance, the background of the museum was not working with our tables. I
suggested that our team present a colored background, Lisa worked on implementing
the museum background with the tables and we continued with the original agreed
format. The originals slides before editing and additions that I had created were the 4
google slides which included the Historical Museum Comparisons, Educational

Mold The Fastest Essay
`` Which Will Mold The Fastest?
Purpose :
What type of food do you think will mold the fastest when placed in a cabinet? Our
purpose of this project is to see which food will mold the fastest out of banana,
cheese, milk, and bread. Many foods need to be refrigerated to stay fresh and edible.
Most dairy foods need to be refrigerated. We will be eating the foods in a cabinet
and record our results. It is important to know that some molds can make you very
sick if eaten.
Hypothesis : Angela s Hypothesis : I think the milk will mold the fastest because if
you leave it out long it will eventually get moldy and disgusting. The next food I
think will mold the fastest is the cheese because if you leave it out long it will get
green and moldy. The next food I think will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Wait 4 5 days and check on the samples. Have any of them molded?
7. Document your results. Take pictures.
Project Goals :
To leave food out to see which one will mold the quickest
To see what foods need the least refrigeration
Results :
Our results was that milk molded the fastest. We found out that milk contains acid,
catalyst of decomposition. At the second day the milk was a little lumpy and
soured. The cheese was the second in molding the fastest. At the third day the edges
of the cheese were kind of black which means it had a little bit mold. As we can see
that the first and second both had to be refrigerated. The banana was the third in
molding the fastest. At the third day the banana got kind of black. The bread did not
mold at all making it the last one to mold the fastest.
Conclusion :
Therefore, we found out that the milk molded the fastest and that the bread did not
mold at all. This was because the milk needed to be refrigerated. Angela s
hypothesis was all correct. Meanwhile, Avril s hypothesis was part incorrect. The
bread needed the least refrigeration. Thankfully, there were no accidents with the
mold. ( Warning : Do Not Eat Or Touch Mold
Analysis Of Karjon s Tale
On the way back, the two were discussing what they might do about all that they
had discovered. Karjon was keen to expand his knowledge and discuss with
experts in the field. But first he had to find an expert in this field or at least a
similar field. If one did exist. He was reticent to blindly accept the premise by
Murfon that there was no expert in this area. There had to be someone. The Hive
could not be so ignorant about the skyaround them to not bother with picking
someone to study it.
Murfon s stance was one of caution. He knew that Karjon s insatiable curiosity had
got him into trouble before. The Hive Elders were running out of patience with his
endless questions about how and why the Hive did what they did. Karjon was most ...

If he is, then why aren t the Elders helping us mine the stuff as well? Besides I got
off with another warning anyway. I did manage to put some doubt into their minds at
least. Karjon said with some pride.
Yes, but it was your last warning. Any more awkward questions to the Information
Centre, and you are going to be demoted down to a cleaner or something, or worse
yet, reclamation. It has happened before you know. So promise me you won t be
going to the Centre to pursue this directly.
Murfon was almost pleading but noticed a wry smile on Karjon s face. That was
enough to convince Murfon that Karjon was going to do something. His curiosity
had an overwhelming power over his decision making.
Back at the Hive, Karjon and Murfon immediately sought out Tamblin. He was in
his usual area, at the Rail Area, working on one of the Rails. He crawled out from
under it when he saw the familiar feet of his friends.
Well look what the Drones have sent me. I should send it back. How are you two?
Sorry I couldn t see you this period but this repair job is an emergency. It s the life
of an engineer. Tamblin said. He was glad to see his two friends though.
You ll never guess what we saw at the methane pool? Well, Karjon s special methane
pool. The most amazing sight I have ever seen. You ve got to come out and see it
with us. Murfon was almost exploding with enthusiasm. Karjon was smiling at him.
Tamblin s engineering mind worked at light speed. He ignored

  • 2. Serbia Research Paper BACKGROUND PAPER ON SERBIA 1. Serbia has been the primary mover of regional affairs in the Balkan Peninsula for the past 30 years. This paper will briefly discuss Serbia s history and myth, its involvement in regional unrest, its religion and spiritual ties, how those ties encourage its behavior, and the United States actions in the region in an attempt to keep the peace and develop Serbia into a stabilizing force for the region. 2. In 1989 Slobodan Milosevic came to power in the Socialist Republic of Serbia, then one of six republics that made up the federation of Yugoslavia, on a platform that aggravated the ethnic tension in the region.1 In 1991 three of the six republics declared independence from Yugoslavia, followed by a fourth in 1992.2 Milosevic launched military campaigns and when the fighting ceased in 1995. The two remaining republics, Serbia and Montenegro, formed the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia.3 In 1997, Serbia began a brutal campaign that involved the massacre of hundreds of civilians, mostly ethnic Albanians, in the region of Kosovo.4 Milosevic was ousted in 2000 and the nation was once again reorganized in 2003.5 In 2006, Montenegro seceded, followed by Kosovo in 2008; a declaration Serbia refuses to acknowledge.6 ... Religion is deeply rooted in Serbia s history and is to blame for much of the violence the nation has seen recently.7 The people adopted Orthodox Christianity in the late 9th century.8 The church played an instrumental role in helping the Serbsmaintain a national identity during nearly five hundred years of Ottoman rule.9 In Serbia, each ethnic group has also been divided along religious lines. This distinction is largely to blame for the ethnic violence in the region; especially in Kosovo.10 Today, Serbia is predominantly Serbian Orthodox Christian at 84.6 percent, followed by Catholic (5 percent), Muslim (3.1 percent Kosovo is 95.6 percent Muslim11), and Protestant 1
  • 3. The Importance Of Human Nature In Cory Doctorow s Little... Cory Doctorow s Little Brother is an excellent novel that combines technology and rebellion all into one book. A group of teenagers living in San Francisco become prisoners of a terrorist attack investigation when they are arrested and brought to an island by the Department of Homeland Security. They are treated awfully despite not having committed a single crime. The main character, Marcus, deems it is in his hands to take down the DHS and get revenge for what they ve done. The Bay Bridge bombing and terrorist attack, the awful treatment of the characters by the DHS, and Marcus good efforts to seek revenge, all have an impact on human nature. Doctorow s novel shows how acts of conflictcan expose the cruelty of human nature as they can inflict tremendous pain on the vulnerable, but sometimes they can even cause a positive outcome. Organizing a terrorist attack reveals one s true human nature simply by having created such a vicious and cruel conflict. Within the beginning of the novel, the Bay Bridge in San Francisco was bombed and thousands of people got injured and many died. Having said that, one can infer just by recognizing the situation at hand, that the person who orchestrated the attack, was not in a positive mental state. Marcus, a character in the novel said, Terrorists don t hate landmarks or bridges or airplanes. They just want to screw stuff up and make people scared (Doctorow 73). Marcus emphasizes in this line that terrorists reveal their human nature
  • 4. Essay on Low Carbohydrate Versus Low Fat Diets The purpose of this essay is to compare Low carb and Low Fat diets and examine their similarities and differences. Two studies in the New England Journal of Medicine provide evidence that in the short term, a low carbohydrate diet helped people lose weight without any adverse effects. In the last decade, several leading nutritional scientists have taken the side effects into consideration. They have begun to think that the low carb diet may be partly right about losing weight, and scientists are now finally studying whether low fat dietsreally work. However, many people still question the low carbohydrate diets long term effectiveness and choose to stick to the traditional low fat diet. In the short... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... And therefore, the fat does not get burnt off and there is no weight lost. On the other hand, in the long term, most nutritional experts are wary of the low carbohydrate diet s recommendations because of the dramatic, and possibly hazardous, changes the diet can have on the body. Among the many concerns are possible vitamin deficiencies, dehydration, gastrointestinal problems, and kidney, heart and gallbladder disease. Some short term benefits from a low fat diet have been documented, but similarly to the low carb diet, none have held up long term. In the short term people lower their cholesterol by eating less fatty foods. It was subsequently shown that saturated fats, as well as dietary cholesterol, elevate plasma total and low density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol by down regulating the LDL receptors in the liver. There is little doubt that Americans have improved their health by lowering their dietary intake of fat. Low fat diets are often advocated for weight reduction and to lower the risk of coronary heart disease and certain forms of cancer. However in the short term, there is no universal agreement about the value of low fat diets, because over time most people seem to gain the weight back. In the long term, there have been several lasting effects of the Low fat diet. First, low fat diets often cause an inadequate protein intake. Without protein our bodies can t rebuild properly. Low fat diets also
  • 5. Haskell s Portrayal Of Women In Reverence To Rape In the excerpt Forties from the novel Reverence to Rape, Haskell examines the portrayal of women in the films from the forties. American screenwriters during this time portrayed female protagonists in a negative way. Women were displayed as severely evil and immoral beings. This was a great contrast to the sexually and morally free women in the films created in the thirties. The Forties were a time where films were grim. What was interesting to me was the relation to film noir. The films were very dark and focused on the negatives in society. These films highlighted crime, mental illness, violence, and more. Due to the large amounts of cynicism and depression in society, relationships were rooted in fear and suspicion, impotence and inadequacy (Haskell, 196). Relationships were depicted as con games, men tricked women and women tricked ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There was a large amount of infidelity and relationship woes being displayed by both female and male protagonists in forties films. The Forties began the era of the good girl vs the bad girl and the angel vs. the devil. Some women were being put down in the films created in the forties. These women were displayed as lacking high self esteem and were accepting of bad treatment from men. These women were women in waiting ; those who would sacrifice themselves for the love of a man. They were the good girls that were walked all over by men. This contrasted with the bad women of the forties. These women were con women. They were into criminal activity just as the men were and would trick men or drag the men down with them. These women were viewed as liars and treacherous. The bad girls were viewed as beings with no soul who lacked morality and emotions. Instead of aspiring
  • 6. What Is The Executive Branch Of Government According to the US Constitution, a successful government, particularly a democracy, must have six basic principals to function while keeping the people content and avoiding harsh dictatorship. These can be simplified into two main beliefs. Firstly, that the hands of the people, a vast majority of the people, hold the power of government. Secondly, that no one part or even all of the sections of government may have complete rule in the country. Popular sovereignty allows the majority of people to make decisions and change their country. This is very similar to the consent of the governed, which defines itself and is also needed to avoid people government conflicts. Overall, the people must be allowed freedoms that will make them the origin of government power.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Instead, different parts, or what s called branches, of the government handle separate topics. In the US, there is an executive branch, a judiciary branch, and a legislative branch. The executive branch is the central power of the government, the judiciary branch tries cases of law before punishment is handed (which is yet another principal of government), and the legislative branch creates and votes on laws. And each of these branches may overrule another in certain situations. For example, the head of the executive branch in the US, the president, may veto or do away with a law, but if the legislative branch has enough votes, they can keep that law anyway. That is having what s called checks and balances, and prevents any one part of government from becoming too strong and even

Life of an aspiring student like me. Literacy made me what I am today. My life without literacy would be nothing. It is the key variable which helped me to cross the seas, a long way from my home nation of origin, my family and my companions to reach my aspirations in my life. By and large, parents would be the first teachers of their kids. Despite the fact that it was my mom who showed me up general things since adolescence, it is always my father who focusses on my education. He is the one who always motivates me by his standards and often inspires me by his commitment towards his business. It was my 3rd standard of primary schooling in the famous Christian Baptist missionary school, ST. Joseph s high school. It was a very well famed school in our encompassing territory. Once my dad was extremely frustrated by my grades in the quarterly exams. He took me out for a walk to the temple in our community and explained me about the significance of studies and the career that would be there in case I m going to study well. From the next day he used to focus on me in regards to my studies and used to assess me and train me. He likewise used to show me a considerable measure in regards

The cause for the 1950 Red Scare that inspired most of the work in The Crucible comes from a man named Joseph McCarthy who was a former American Senator. Senator McCarthy was one of a few who lead the investigations and allegations during the Red Scare and prospered because of it. Tuesdays With Morrie, By Mitch Albom Throughout the novel Tuesdays With Morrie, the author, Mitch Albom, reflects on his Tuesday meetings with his old professor, now consumed with a terminal illness, and, using many rhetorical choices, reveals The Meaning of Life, which they discussed profusely and divided into several categories. Topics such as Death, Emotions, Aging, Money, Forgiveness, and more are all discussed in their weekly conferences, Morrie passing on his wisdom to one of his favorite students. And Albom, writing about their talks, uses numerous rhetoric devices to discuss this wisdom. As Morrie Schwartz, dying of ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), speaks with Albom, the two talk about Death. Describing the discussion, Albom uses strategies such as irony filled dialogue and existential oxymoron to divulge Morrie s wisdom and opinions on death, dying, and how the world perceives it all. Morrie says to Mitch at the very beginning of their discussion, everyone knows they re going to die, but nobody believes it... If we did, we would do things differently. Experiencing death himself, knowing that he has run out of years, the old professor can no longer run from death, and instead knows and accepts it as an inevitable fact. The irony lies in the fact that everyone ignores this reality, and the saying appeals to the logos of the audience because it is widely held as truth that, as a whole, humans ignore death. However, Morrie says that if people didn t, they would have completely different

VARIABLE COSTING Absorption vs. Variable Costing ACC 401 Assignment 31 August 2013 Validity for using the Absorption or Variable Costing Method In the case, it is more advantageous to use absorption costing than the variable costing because it is a simpler method of providing accurate record for the external reporting for a highly unstable manufacturing volume in the manufacturing company. More importantly, the absorption costing provides more accurate picture of cash flow of an organization since the organization will add unsold product to the sale mount of the next fiscal year. (Walther, 2013).With the absorption costing, the organization will be able to transfer the cost of inventory to the costs of goods sold making the organization to reduce the gross profit. The rational behind using the absorption costing is that firms will be able to measure the products as complete costs. (Noreen, E.W. Brewer, P.C. Garrison, R.H. (2013). The shortcoming of absorption costing is that it does not always provide the best signal on the strategy to price a product. Moreover, absorption costing assigns both fixed and variable manufacturing costs to products and mix them that makes management to face challenges to distinguish between the two costs. The report provides the benefits of the absorption and variable costing to reveal how the two costing methods enhance managerial decision. Benefits of the Absorption and Variable Costing Methods One

Nation is a social concept with no uncontroversial definition, but which is most commonly used to designate larger groups or collectives of people with common characteristics attributed to them including language, traditions, customs, habits, and ethnicity. A nation, by comparison, is more impersonal, abstract, and overtly political than an ethnic group. It is a cultural political community that has become conscious of its autonomy, unity, and particular interests. According to Ford s National Question: a nation is not a racial or tribal, but a historically constituted community of people; a nation is not a casual or ephemeral conglomeration, but a stable community of people ; a nation is formed only as a result of lengthy and systematic intercourse, as a result of people living together generation after generation ; and, in its entirety: a nation is a historically constituted, stable community of people, formed on the basis of a common language, territory, economic life, and psychological make up manifested in a common culture. It is an imagined community in the sense that the material conditions exist for imagining extended and shared connections. It is an abstract community in the sense that it is objectively impersonal, even if each individual in the nation experiences him or herself as subjectively part of an embodied unity with others.

  • 31. Effects Of Gene Therapy On Children And The Existence Of... Imagine a world where wheel chairs do not exist or the illnesses that cause the mandatory use of wheel chairs are wiped out. The advancement in science that is being used to explore the possibilities to prevent or cure human disease is called gene therapy. The purpose of gene therapy is to remove or reverse the mutation of the cells in an embryo or a child, thus eliminating the disease from the child and the existence of the disease. With this advancement in science, children who are diagnosed with an inherited death sentence or an illness that will cause suffering within their life span are given a second chance. The support of gene therapy would give hope to parents who suffer from the horrifying decision of pulling the plug on their young children who suffer from inherited illnesses. In addition, instead of allowing ourselves to endure the guilty conscious of knowing our children have a high chance of contracting a genetic illness, it s time for legislation around the world to fund the eradication of illnesses from embryos. Critics claim that the future of gene therapy will result in unborn children being treated as products when the parent imposes on their children s natural life skills and physical features ( Human Enhancement: The New Eugenics. ). Also, ethicists worry that the process of successfully tinkering with an embryo opens doors to strive for perfect humans. Although there is the potential for the reemergence of eugenics and the creation of designer

However, when the researcher applied the quantitative technique to check the confidence interval for ADR of Ritz Carlton at 98% interval it resulted in an upper limit of US$207 which raises the bar US$40 when compared to Four Seasons figures for the last 3 years. Since the occupancy is same for both the hotels, market potential reveals that there is great scope to improve the revenues as it is done by Four Seasons. Higher occupancy is achieved due to demand in the market. Thus, reducing cost would only lead to reduction in prices which seems to be unviable option. 1.4.2.2 Increasing Price The researcher opines that by increasing prices a rise in the ADR can be achieved since it is a sum total of room revenue multiplied by occupancy %. However, while the prices are increased the existing guest may be resistance to pay the increased price with the same facilities provided by the hotel. Another potential issue with choosing this alternative of increasing prices would be the percentage by which the price rises are raised for the product. Having used the quantitative techniques on the ADR of Ritz Carlton found that a 9% increase in the ADR was considerably alike to present average of the ADR. This means that an increase

Prior to this, it was understood that imbalances in the body produced a substance called blastema, which caused cells to be made. In 1847, Rudolf and a fellow physician, Benno Reinhardt, published their own scientific journal. In said journal, the two asserted that medical practices should be based on only well proven science. The duo rejected several contemporary medical practices that had been around for ages, such as Galen s use of humors which was later proven to be incorrect (Doc, 2015). We see examples of such RSSE in the gospels. For many Christian s miracles, demonstrate God s care for his creation and show God s willingness to intervene to change things for the better. Such examples of RSSE are not confined to the times of Jesus, but have occurred in the fairly recent past especially in the Catholic Church (who undertake a strict procedure in ascertaining the validity of miracles) e.g. Lourdes, The miraculous recovery of John Fagen, which lead to the sainthood of John Ogillve etc. Scholars such as Hume, and scientists such as Dawkins, believe that miracles have natural explanations and are only seen as miraculous due to ignorance (as science advances forward so faith retreats). They believe that there are no real miracles but events that can be better explained in scientific terms (the plagues, walking on water etc) or are simply fabricated. The German scholar Rudolf Bultmann took a similarly sceptical view of miracles and argued that the world view of the Bible was unacceptable in a modern, scientific age. Bultmann reasoned that the
  • 51. Jesus Of Nazareth Research Paper Today we want to look at the causality that took place in the Garden Tomb during the 6 day war. Two people were buried in the Garden. http:/ /andnowyouknowmore.blogspot.com 1. Jesus of Nazareth. Buried in the tomb of Arimathaea. 2. Mr. Mattar, Palestinian Arabs. Buried in a grave, in the garden near the tomb of Christ. This was the causality of the 6 day war. Both graves are empty. Jesus, was Crucified and rose the third day, leaving his tomb empty. Mr. Mattar, was shot and killed by Jordanian gunfire during the 6 day war and buried in the Garden. His body was exhumed and re interred in a Protestant Cemetery, leaving his tomb empty. There are two places in Jerusalem that claim to be the tomb of Jesus. 1. The Church... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mattar who died in the Garden Tomb in June, 1967 as you recall. I will attach an account of his death to this letter as I have just completed a book with the history of the Garden of which this is an excerpt. The following is part of that letter: From the book by Patricia St John, the celebrated children s writer: Patricia St John Tells Her own story. Send the Light publications. The Mattars kept us spellbound with the story of their recent lives. They were Palestinian Arabs who had come to Jerusalem on holiday with their nine children. While there the war broke out between the Jews and Arabs and it became impossible to get back home. Their money was dwindling and the banks were unable to transfer. They and many like them were faced with the problem of real hunger. Mr. Mattar visited the bank daily, but nothing was coming through. A day came when they finished the last of their food for breakfast. So Mr. Mattar gathered his nine children around him and read to them God s promise of provision in the
  • 52. Teams Project How I Contributed to the Teams Project From the beginning of the live marketing project, Edmond s Historical Museum, to the end of the live presentation, I committed 100% of myself to the team by being actively involved. My first contribution was visiting the Edmond s Historical Museum on September 28th, 2017 where I gathered notes by effectively listening to Katie Kelly. This was for the purpose of being able to analyze the data at a later time. The data research that I was able to gleam from Katie, included that the museum is seeing a decline in their memberships, there was not enough volunteers to actively seek out renewals, and a majority of the Edmond s transplants moved changing the demographics, and that new exhibits would come ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I am trying to gather all the data and Kellen is going to place the information on the table. Any help would be greatly appreciated! I attached an example of a table that James put together and my slides are with James. However, here is the information. Please note, we will need to add the WA Historical Museum to our other data. The email to the team included information within the email and I even created a word document explaining and emphasizing with step by step directions what our Professor Tito expected from us in development and improvement. I personally felt it was clear and concise information that was provided. However, there was some confusion, Kellen was unable to complete the tables and due to scheduling conflicts, we were unable to connect via conference. Instead on Saturday, November 18, 2017 10:36 a.m., I created the format, with tables, for the google slides. Called Lisa for assistance, the background of the museum was not working with our tables. I suggested that our team present a colored background, Lisa worked on implementing the museum background with the tables and we continued with the original agreed format. The originals slides before editing and additions that I had created were the 4 google slides which included the Historical Museum Comparisons, Educational Offerings, Memberships, Donations/Grants. On Wednesday, November
  • 53. Mold The Fastest Essay `` Which Will Mold The Fastest? Purpose : What type of food do you think will mold the fastest when placed in a cabinet? Our purpose of this project is to see which food will mold the fastest out of banana, cheese, milk, and bread. Many foods need to be refrigerated to stay fresh and edible. Most dairy foods need to be refrigerated. We will be eating the foods in a cabinet and record our results. It is important to know that some molds can make you very sick if eaten. Hypothesis : Angela s Hypothesis : I think the milk will mold the fastest because if you leave it out long it will eventually get moldy and disgusting. The next food I think will mold the fastest is the cheese because if you leave it out long it will get green and moldy. The next food I think will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Wait 4 5 days and check on the samples. Have any of them molded? 7. Document your results. Take pictures. Project Goals : To leave food out to see which one will mold the quickest To see what foods need the least refrigeration Results : Our results was that milk molded the fastest. We found out that milk contains acid, catalyst of decomposition. At the second day the milk was a little lumpy and soured. The cheese was the second in molding the fastest. At the third day the edges of the cheese were kind of black which means it had a little bit mold. As we can see that the first and second both had to be refrigerated. The banana was the third in molding the fastest. At the third day the banana got kind of black. The bread did not mold at all making it the last one to mold the fastest. Conclusion : Therefore, we found out that the milk molded the fastest and that the bread did not mold at all. This was because the milk needed to be refrigerated. Angela s hypothesis was all correct. Meanwhile, Avril s hypothesis was part incorrect. The bread needed the least refrigeration. Thankfully, there were no accidents with the mold. ( Warning : Do Not Eat Or Touch Mold
  • 54. Analysis Of Karjon s Tale On the way back, the two were discussing what they might do about all that they had discovered. Karjon was keen to expand his knowledge and discuss with experts in the field. But first he had to find an expert in this field or at least a similar field. If one did exist. He was reticent to blindly accept the premise by Murfon that there was no expert in this area. There had to be someone. The Hive could not be so ignorant about the skyaround them to not bother with picking someone to study it. Murfon s stance was one of caution. He knew that Karjon s insatiable curiosity had got him into trouble before. The Hive Elders were running out of patience with his endless questions about how and why the Hive did what they did. Karjon was most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If he is, then why aren t the Elders helping us mine the stuff as well? Besides I got off with another warning anyway. I did manage to put some doubt into their minds at least. Karjon said with some pride. Yes, but it was your last warning. Any more awkward questions to the Information Centre, and you are going to be demoted down to a cleaner or something, or worse yet, reclamation. It has happened before you know. So promise me you won t be going to the Centre to pursue this directly. Murfon was almost pleading but noticed a wry smile on Karjon s face. That was enough to convince Murfon that Karjon was going to do something. His curiosity had an overwhelming power over his decision making. Back at the Hive, Karjon and Murfon immediately sought out Tamblin. He was in his usual area, at the Rail Area, working on one of the Rails. He crawled out from under it when he saw the familiar feet of his friends. Well look what the Drones have sent me. I should send it back. How are you two? Sorry I couldn t see you this period but this repair job is an emergency. It s the life of an engineer. Tamblin said. He was glad to see his two friends though. You ll never guess what we saw at the methane pool? Well, Karjon s special methane pool. The most amazing sight I have ever seen. You ve got to come out and see it with us. Murfon was almost exploding with enthusiasm. Karjon was smiling at him. Tamblin s engineering mind worked at light speed. He ignored
