The aim of this practical is to produce the ester, 3 methylbutyl ethanoate (isoamyl acetate) through

Procedure
Reflux Assemble apparatus for reflux as shown in figure 1. Begin pre heating mantle. Measure
and add 12mL of butan 1 ol and 9mL of ethanoic acid (glacial acetic acid) into a 50mL boiling flask.
Add boiling chips. Slowly add 1mL of concentrated sulphuric acid. Reflux mixture for 30 40
minutes; ensure smooth boiling. Pour cooled refluxed mixture into a conical flask; apply stopper.
Isolation
Pour cooled mixture into a separating funnel containing 20mL of water. Shake and allow contents
of solution to separate into layers. Determine the aqueous (non organic) layer by observing the
addition of a drop of distilled water. Discard the aqueous layer, retaining the organic layer in the
separating funnel. Add 10mL of sodium carbonate solution, shake gently and allow effervescence
to occur. Discard aqueous layer, wash with 20mL distilled water. Decant organic solution into a
conical flask containing fused calcium chloride. Stopper, swirl and allow to stand for 15 minutes.
Distillation
Assemble distillation apparatus as shown in figure 2, begin pre heating mantle. Decant organic
solution into a 50mL boiling flask, add boiling chips. Distil the organic liquid, record boiling range

day. Bending forward, sitting, standing, and walking aggravate the pain. Medications relieve the
pain. She has been previously treated with pain medications and PT. The PT was ineffective in
controlling the pain. Tramadol was effective. The patient reports no side effects to the
medications and states that her functional status improves and her pain is controlled with the
medication. The patient is afraid to proceed with the SCS trial secondary to the fear of getting
RSD in her spine. The patient admits having sleeping problems. Exam of the left lower extremity
revealed decreased temperature in the left knee. There were parasthesias and signs of allodynia in
the left leg. Knee stability was decreased on maneuvers and there was severe restricted ROM in all
planes. Treatment plan included medication refill for gabapentin, tramadol, clonidine, lidocaine
topical and pamelor oral. Follow up in 1 month.

In Nathaniel Hawthorne s short story, The Birth mark, and H.P. Lovecraft s horror story, The Call
of Cthulhu, there are both similarities in themes and style, however, their characterization and
narration is entirely different. This lends itself to creating two different short stories, both can be
classified as horror or suspenseful. Hawthorne s story, published earlier, shares a similar theme of
humanity and union with The Call of Cthulhu. The documentary style of H.P. Lovecraft s short story
contrasts with the less personal feel of The Birth mark. Finally, the characterization of both the birth
mark and Cthulhucreate the stories and give them purpose and meaning, while acting as heavy
symbols for the purpose of extending and building a fuller, more intense plot. Both The Birth Mark
and The Call of Cthulhu discuss how humanity is fickle and humans are not the ultimate authority
in the world. In Hawthorne s story, we are able to see how the attempt to control humanity is
worthless as we are all doomed and mortal creatures. As Aylmer attempts to remove said humanity,
he ultimately loses life as they are intertwined. Similarly, Lovecraft explores a world where humans
are not the only thing in the world, nor the most powerful. Humans are shown as weak, especially in
comparison to the creature Cthulhu. This is remarkably similar to the power that the birth mark
exhibits over Aylmer as he allows it to encroach on his sanity. The birth mark and Cthulhu both

The short story, A Modest Proposal, written by Johnathan Swift, is anything but a modest
proposal. Swift satirically proposes a compromise to rectify a burden of the Irish people. The
nation s predicament is the children of the poor people being a hinderance to their parents and
their country. The compromise is eating the infants to not only save food that would be needed
for the kids but to give a larger amount of food to the poor people. Clearly this satirical essay is
just that, satirical, but the way Swift delivers his proposition is very persuasive. Through his use of
rhetorical devices such as tone and litotes he is able to emphasize his points, while at the same time
he throws in a hefty amount of irony to keep the reader from thinking the piece is truthful and
serious.
In order for the audience to not completely disregard the story, the author needs to put some realism
into his writing. A way in which he achieves this is through an under exaggerated tone. Swift
constant use of litotes builds this tone and helps make everything stay real. By making everything
seem not so over the top, he is able to achieve a sense of normalcy in his writing. An example of one
of these vast understatements is when he mentions how the women might find it, Bordering upon
cruelty. The very thought of murdering anything, let alone babies, is cruel. The most evident case

In current practices of psychodynamic family therapy, it leans towards integration and diversity in
recognition of the limitations of any single therapeutic model (Evans, 2012). A wide variety of
family therapies have arose which may be described as psycho dynamic and there is not an
opportunity to address all of them. This review will discuss experiential family therapy.
In the early twentieth century, the foundations of the psychodynamic theory was laid by Sigmund
Freud. Freud focused his attention mainly on individuals and not so much on the family, but he did
recognize that family is important in human development (Evans, 2012). Yet, succeeding
theoreticians plus family counselors have utilized the ideologies of psychoanalysis in the expansion
of family therapy (Evans, 2012). Ludwig Binswanger, a psychologist who disagreed with Freud s
theories of human beings, is said to have brought the concepts of existential and phenomenological
thought into the field of psychology (Mahrer, 1983). With the dissatisfaction of the limitations of
Freud s theory, Binswanger started to search outside the existing areas of psychological theories for
other models to explain the thoughts and behavior of individuals (Mahrer, 1983).
The experiential theory for family therapy was developed by Virginia Satir(Satir, et al, 1991) and

achievements they accomplished during their life. Margaret Thatcher used flattery of Ronald
Reagan during the eulogy to portray all of the things that Reagan did in a positive note. He won

Dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT) was developed by Dr. Marsha Linehan in the 1980 s based on
her biosocial theory of borderline personality disorder (BPD; Linehan, 1993a, 1993b). DBT utilizes
a number of therapeutic techniques and skill development to target deficits in emotion regulation
and monitoring affective states. An important underlying assumption of DBT is that emotionally
vulnerable individuals learn maladaptive coping strategies (i.e., parasuicidal behaviours) as a way
to mitigate strong emotional reactions. Therefore, DBT attempts to develop more adaptive coping
strategies that encourage a person to build a life that they experience as worth living (Behavioral
Tech, 2017).
The fundamental components of traditional DBT are based upon cognitive behavioral therapy
(CBT), acceptance, and dialectics (Linehan, 1993a). DBT implements traditional CBT techniques
that emphasize change, including skills training, exposure therapy, as well as cognitive and
contingency therapy (Linehan, 1993b; Rathus Miller, 2002). However, Linehan et al. (1991)
