The Manchurian Candidate by Johnathan Demme Essay
The Manchurian Candidate, Johnathan Demme directed the remake. Both films portray paranoia,
mind control, and conspiracy. Frankenheimer utilizes satire, humor, and symbolism to convey the
themes, whereas, Demme uses modern fears, camera angles and focus, and mental illness to
achieve similar results. Many of the elements of the 2004 remake have been modernized. While
the original movie placed the soldiers in Korea, the remake placed them in Kuwait. Demme did
changed the location of the war, in order to appeal to current fears and suspicions. In 1962, the
threat of communism was at the forefront of everyone s thoughts. However, during 2004, only
three years after the 9/11 terrorist attacks, citizens were no longer concerned about... Show more

The film switches between perspectives of the ladies garden party and the communist officials
to stress the comic surrealism of the situation. The calm and genteel ladies garden party is a
stark contrast to the evil plotting of the communists. Image overlay as well as soft lighting are
also used to convey the surrealism and dreamlike quality. The absurd way that Eleanor s husband,
Senator Iselin, presents the supposed number (which he is constantly changing) of communists in
the state department, satirizes the Red Scare and McCarthyism. Many of the accused
communists during the red scare were merely from wild speculation caused by irrational fear and
political movements to get rid of the opposition. It was also ironic that Eleanor, who had her
husband present the fake number of communists, was actually the communist herself. The role of
a mother is also satirized in the film. The 1950 s portrayed mothers as pure and wholesome,
however Eleanor is portrayed as the evil and conniving perpetrator of peril. The remake focused on
keeping the audience and Major Marco in a constant state of paranoia and uncertainty. In the
original movie, the audience is shown, as well as told by the narrator, that the platoon was captured
and brainwashed by communists. Whereas, in the remake, Major Marco and the

Medifast Program Analysis
The Medifast program is a scientifically backed weight loss program. This program consists of
nutrient dense meals and vitamins (Medifast Inc., 2016). Medifast s most popular meal plan is
five Medifast meals and one lean and green meal. Each Medifast meal has the same amount of
calories and nutrients, meals are 100 calories each, the lean and green meal consists of 7oz of
lean protein and endless amount of greens in the form of veggies or salad. The reason why this
plan works is individuals are only consuming less than 1000 calories a day. This helps individuals
with portion control and gives them the daily requirements of vitamins and minerals. The basic
nature of the Medifast diet it to restrict the caloric intake of obese individuals and supplement with
Medifast prepared meals, this ensures optimal weight loss, medical monitoring comes along with
this diet, individuals will need to get blood work and routine physician visits, this ensures that
individuals are following the meal plan.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Coconut Oil Brain
Coconut Oil For Brain
Coconut oil has a wide array of health benefits, including being extremely good for your brain in a
variety of ways. Coconut oil contains medium chain triglycerides and MTI s have been shown to
boost cognitive function in seniors with everything from minor memory disorders to more serious
matters such as Alzheimer s.
Medium chain triglycerides are not like other types of oil you eat because they are not stored in
your tissues, rather they are moved immediately to your liver where they are oxidized and turned
into ketone bodies so your body can use it for energy and fuel for your brain s mitochondria,
instead of your body storing it as fat.
Coconut oil is good for your brain in so many ways. Your brain requires healthy

Life Of Pi Expository Essay
To discover is to progress, experience and to transform. As one encounters discovery, an individual
may encounter a transformative experience that most certainly can lead to new perceptions of
others and ourselves. These ideas portrayed about how discoveries are transformative, is
effectively exemplified in the poem The Road not taken by Robert Frost. Which conveys how
discoveries can push one into a wider world full of possibilities, which may transform one
immensely introducing new perceptions of them selves and others. This conceptis also shown in
Ang lee s film Life of Pi . Through the main protagonist of Pi Patel and the experiences he is faced
with which transformed him significantly in a way that brought about new perceptions of... Show

This concept is portrayed in the scene where Pi discovers carnivorous island. Don t you see, the
island was carnivorous ? The extreme close up of the tooth symbolically represents the island itself.
The appealing nature of the bud represents the luscious life giving Island during the day, however
the rotten tooth symbolises the carnivorous nature of the island during the nighttime. The toxicness
of the island, forces Pi to continue his discovery for salvation in order to live with humanity, due to
the fatal repercussions of a life lived without humanity. Which conveys how through discoveries
ramifications most certainly arise which as a result alters ones perceptions of themselves and their
surroundings in order to survive which aims to transform one for the better.
Likewise this concept is significantly portrayed in the road not taken, demonstrated in the lines I
shall be telling this with a sigh the first person narration indicates a change in tone, displaying a
sense of regret in which discoveries can introduce as a result of ones choices in embarking a
discovery in which shifts ones perceptions on themselves and the wider world hence transforming
them. Therefore how through discoveries individuals encounter impacts, which may transform one

Romans Christian Worldview Essay
Ray Foote Worldview Paper Bible 425 From the beginning of Paul s letter to the Romans is not
only a letter to the Gentile church in Rome, but also a great introduction to the Gospel for
anyone, believer or non believer to get a starting point from which to form a world view. Paul is
clear from Romans 1:3 5 states that Jesus is the Christ, the Messiah, and the Son of God. Within
the first chapter of Romans, Paul is clear in that God s wrath is on the whole earth, believer and
non believer. Romans 1:20 states that God s invisible attributes, eternal power and divine nature
can be seen in the created world. Meaning that those people, whom have never heard of the Gospel
of Christ, can still understand God, and have a relationship... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Romans 3:21 states that Jesus came to provide righteousness away from the Law, that way is
Jesus Christ. Verse 22 states that is faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. Verse 24 states that
we are all justified freely by God s grace and that God send Jesus as an atoning sacrifice for the
world. The role that Jesus had on earth was to be a sacrifice for the sins for the world, to be the
pure lamb, for those who have faith in the teachings and saying of Jesus Christ, the redeemer for
the sins of the world that all have done. One of the most overlooked verses in Romans is chapter
5 verse 3; this is one of the only places in any holy scripture where one would find us being told
to rejoice in our sufferings because it builds perseverance. Romans 5:18 states that just as sin
enter the world through one man, so also the result of all righteousness was justification that
brings life for all men. God did not want his creation to die, but we made the choice to do so, this
God sent Jesus to be the atonement for that sin. Romans chapter 11 starts off telling Christians
that we are to offer our bodies as living sacrifices to God, it is a way of worship, Paul is telling
the readers of his letter, that their bodies are Gods creation, not something that we should be killing
when you do drugs, or the other stupid things that people have done to their bodies. Paul also tells us

Ranging from Where the Wild Things Are to The Very Hungry Caterpillar to There Was an Old
Lady Who Swallowed a Fly, the list is sure to swell as memories and moments flood back with your
favorite pictures and characters making themselves known. Whatever the book, it s likely everyone
has special stories associated with their childhood, sitting and listening as their imaginations ran

In the article An illustration of a freelancer s good life , it follows an artist, Robert Byrd, who
planned on being a magazine illustrator, but instead, ended up illustrating children s books. Byrd
describes how he believes children s books offer one of the greatest form of expression for artists,
stretching the imaginations of the creator as well as the reader (Harbach, 2005). Aside from the
technicalities of writing and illustrating children s books like being aware of the children s market,
getting seen, submitting work to the publishing companies, and succeeding overall, the fulfillment
the job brings is of no measurement. Indeed, artists find themselves able to freely express
themselves through messages, stories, and illustrations while influencing future generations with
their work. Despite the fact that an artist s salary is lucrative as the website, Society of Children s
Book Writers and Illustrators explains, that s not the ultimately draw. Being a children s book

Last Child In The Woods By Richard Lou
Despite being an environmental studies major, I would be lying if I said that the environment and
nature has always had a huge role in my life. The only reason I became interested in the
environment was when I found out about environmental justice and environmental racism. In other
words, because of people. Before I made that connection sometime in high school, I, like many
others, never viewed nature as something that should be, rather something that just was.
Appreciating nature was a subjective value that I had no particular interests in. Because of this,
although I am now what I consider a fully committed and passionate environmentalist, Last Child in
the Woods by Richard Lou was difficult for me to read because it pointed out how... Show more

a lack of access (no cable). I luckily had a fondness for reading, but I had not yet developed into
reading actual educational material. Once I began high school, I no longer had time to read for fun
or even watch television. Much like everybody else, the majority of my time was spent on school
work and extracurriculars. As can be seen, there really is no description of nature or nature type

environment is fairly new. It is not that I had a dislike for nature, I just took it for granted because

Important Concepts on Film Edition
Section 1F 1.Define parallel editing, montage sequence, and master shot, using Nichols. Give an
example of parallel editing that you notice in The Terminator. a.Parallel editing is method of editing
scenes that shows two separate incidents happening at once. In The Terminator, this editing method
was used when, after calling Sarah Conner pretending to be her mom, the terminator comes to the
hotel that she and Kyle were staying at. During this scene, the scene where Sarah Conner and Kyle
are talking and preparing to leave and the scene where the terminator is approaching the hotel
crosscuts. Thus, the audience knows that the danger is approaching. b.Montage sequence is group
of shots that marks the change in time or the unfolding of a process. (Nichols, 2010) c.Master shot
is a shot that provides an overview of the scene showing all the characters movement and gestures. It
is different from establishing shot in that establishing shot often puts a bigger action into play. In
The Terminator, master shot is applied when Kyle, in the future world, enters the underground hut
where human beings stay, master shot is used to show the movement and gestures of Kyle and all
the other soldiers. 2.Briefly summarize Pudovkin s essay on editing. What does he see as the
function of editing in relation to narrative? What is his argument concerning editing as an
instrument of impression ? a.Pudovkin, through his essay, states that combination of different shots

Electric Car Research Paper
Introduction: The purpose for this research paper is to introduce and familiarize students with the
basic concepts and components of electric vehicles. In doing so, we will be able to give a better
and more detailed explanation of the luxurious Tesla Model S electric vehicle s components such as
the battery, its methods of charging and the types of motors that are implemented in the Model S,
and how the Model S sets itself apart from the rest of the competition, whether it be electric
vehicles, hybrid electric vehicles, or vehicles that implement an internal combustion engineor even
the most fastest of racecars ever made such as the Mclaren F1.

As mentioned before, Model S owners are able to choose from different size battery packs which
are able to produce more output power and in turn have longer ranges of miles. The following are
the battery packs different sizes along with their range per miles, horsepower and top speed:
60 kWh with a range of 208 miles, 302 HP, and 120 top speed
70 kWh with a range of 230 miles, 315 HP, and 140 top speed
85 kWh with a range of 265 miles, 373 HP, and 140 top speed
90 kWh with a range of 253 miles, 691 HP, and 155 top speed
As you can see, the size of the battery does matter for the Tesla, the higher the power output, the
more horsepower, range in miles and top speed can be achieved. With these ratings, the Tesla model
S is able to compete with even the most efficient gas consuming vehicle given that the EPA
estimates the the Tesla s miles per range can be converted into a combined eighty nine miles per
gallon. The conversion between the Tesla s range in miles to miles per gallon just goes to show
that even an electric vehicle can be luxurious, sporty and friendly for the environment.

Criticism Of Anne Sexton
Researching Anne Sexton is like untangling a giant mess of chains. Every time it seems solvable,
a new chain is discovered. Every source reveals a new mystery, but nobody really knows the full
story of anything in her life.
She began her writing as a form of therapy to help solve her depression (Harries). She wanted to
become a prostitute, but her therapist created this alternate solution (Margulies). She was
described as a confessionalist poet; These poets tend to write a lot more in detail about their life
(Ruby). In the 1960 s, this was a new concept that many people were against, so she faced a lot of
bad reviews and criticisms.
Sexton grew up in Boston, Massachusetts with her dysfunctional parents, great aunt, and 2 sisters
(People). Her poetry reveals many hints that her father sexually abused her, but none of her
family members have confirmed anything. Her poem Angel of Clean Sheets describes a scene
from after the (assumed) rape of a child in great detail. Sexton uses sentence fragments such as
Little bits of dried blood. One hundred marks / upon the sheet. One hundred kisses in the dark
(Sexton Clean Sheets) to show the brokenness and confusion of an abused child. While this could
just be based off of her confirmed depression, many believe that she could ... Show more content on

more vulgar, way of writing that many people in the 1960 s were not very comfortable with. She

of media and writing.
The life of Anne Sexton holds many mysteries, but she wrote many hints in her poetry to help
solve these mysteries. Her poetry shows a deep understanding of the life of a depressed person
that most people don t normally like to talk about. It could be very helpful to anyone who struggles

The Discovery Of The Staircase
Humans are instinctually curious animals due to their frontal lobe, which causes higher thinking
and a desire for knowledge. The desire for knowledge and higher thinking often leads people to
travel due to the possibility to gain new experiences and discover something new. The mystery
behind certain iconic tourist sights that are brought to light through photography often intrigues and
sparks curiosity in humans with the promise of new knowledge and discovery. The Miraculous
Staircase of Saint Joseph in the Chapel of Loretto in Santa Fe, New Mexicooffers mystery through
the unknown and unexplainable questions that have risen throughout the years regarding the stair
cases history and religious background. The mixture between the unanswered questions concerning
the history of the staircase and its baffling architecture captured through photography throughout
the years cause the stair case to be a focal point of many curious tourist minds in Santa Fe. The
Chapel of Loretto was finished in Santa Fe, New Mexicoin 1878. The chapel was beautiful, but it
was missing a way to access the choir loft that was twenty two feet up. Upset by this, the nuns of
the chapel prayed to Saint Joseph the Master Carpenter (Helix to Heaven). According to sources, on
the ninth day of the sisters praying a stranger showed up with a donkey and carpentry tools to help
with the predicament. He built the beautiful helical staircase that still stands today in a bout six
months, and then vanished before

Critical Theory, Functionalism And Symbolic Interactionism...
In sociology, there are three major theories; critical theory, functionalism and symbolic
interactionism. These theories express the structure of society in which each theory looks at a
different aspects of sociology. Sociologists apply these theories in the study of society, but it
becomes difficult if only one theory is applied. For that one applied theory, would only look at the
aspect to which it is confined to. To successfully study sociologyall three theories must be applied
together.
Critical theory was founded by the German philosopher Karl Marx (Little, 2016, p. 12). It was
originally known as historical materialism which is a critical analysis of capitalism that saw the
material or economic basis of inequality and power relations as the cause of social instability
and conflict (Little, 2016, p. 12). Critical sociology can be defined as the inequality and power
relations in society in order to achieve social justice and emancipation through their
transformations (Little, 2016, p. 45). Novack describes critical theory as, Marx s sociology is
essentially, the sociology of conflict and class (Novack, 1982, p. 51 52). This was because some of
Marx s views were based on freeing the people from the capitalist structure, which to him were
oppressing the lower class citizens (Little, 2016, p. 14). As it is the aim of critical sociology to
look at the power constraining class system, it also creates room for the scientific, In this way the
goal of sociology would

Us Economy On Top Essay
The US should keep US economy on top when it comes to trade. This will provide people in our
country with better products and improve the overall standard of living. We would help poorer
and more underdeveloped countries than us that need assistance. Also, putting the US economy
on top will result in keeping peace with countries. Some say we will focus less on values and
more on resources and money and make other countries economy s weaker, but we will still hold
on to values unless they get in the way and we will actually help other economies by trading with
them even though the US is still on top. We should make sure the US economy is on top so we

Article Summary
(No Women No war) The article No women no war was written by Pasi Loman , a post graduate

modern scholars or authors that women did not play a part in foreign military campaigns i.e. war.
Loman discusses about Greek women and their views, emotion and reaction based on warfare, the
impossible existence of amazons. The reason for the author making this an argument is because of
misjudgment even thou women have had an active role in war. The only side shown by most
researchers is when, women are either rejoicing for the victory of their soldiers or the mourning for
their country. But the authors makes a point to look at the facts about Greek women and if they
have been credited enough for their participation and support in war. Loman compares the contrasts
the research done by other authors like Plutarch who states that Spartan women were hard cored
when it came to war it was a do or die deal for them they were not very pleased with their sons if
they came home defeated some women would kill their sons instead of accepting defeat. They
underwent physical training to learn how to protect them self and their cities.

Why The US Won The Battle Of Midway
The United States had to face two enemies at one time. The U.S.A had to push the Nazis
back into the town of holland. They had to stop them from taking over the
Philippines and Hawaii. First there
was the war of Midway. The Japanese tried to take destroy the three aircraft
battleships. The Japanese attacked the Midway ship two times but they thought they
attacked two different ships so they took a break. They only attacked one battleship
so they were resting the other two battle ships got ready to attack the Japanese
battleship and the U.S. destroyed the Japanese battleship. After the Nazis took over
Holland, the U.S. went and trapped the Nazis.

The Model T Revolutionized The Automotive Industry
When Henry Ford began making cars, he felt that the automotive was destined to make the horse
and carriage disappear. However, to make that happen first he needed to produce a car that was
affordable by everyone. In 1908, he achieved that with the production of the Model T. The
Model T revolutionized the automotive industry. The Model T was the first affordable car for
the masses. Its affordability came from several properties. First, the Model T featured all
interchangeable parts. Parts in one Model T were exactly the same as the parts in another model T
made in the same year. Second, the Model T was the first car to contain vanadium steel parts,
which were stronger, more dependable and lighter weight than previous steel pieces and they could
be manufactured easier. Third, the Ford Company was the first company to employ a moving
assembly linewhich allowed them to assemble the cars faster than anyone else.
In the early 1900s, the automotive industry was a burgeoning business with many competitors
trying to out do each other. Companies rose and fell on a regular basis. By 1903, 214 different
companies had arisen in America to manufacture the automobile. However, by 1904, at least 84 of
those had either ceased to exist or changed to a different line of work. (Ford, 234) When he joined
the ranks of manufacturers in 1903, Henry Ford was determined to make his company work. When
the Ford Motor Company began, it like many other companies of its time, ordered parts for their

Miss Shoshone-Bannock Title Analysis
What this title means can t be answered in just one simple statement because it has multiple
meanings to me. Some young ladies say It means representing myself, my family, and my tribe to
the best of my ability , yes that s what it can mean to someone but that statement is more of a
broad answer. In my eyes it is much more than representing my family, my tribe or even myself
this title has a lot more meaning if you really think about it. The title Miss Shoshone Bannock is a
very respectable and honorable. It is an opportunity to represent and be an ambassador of the

Resolving The Dilemma Of The Absurd
Amir Rezvani Mr. Pyle Period 6 AP Literature and Composition May 1, 2016 Resolving the
Dilemma of the Absurd The human tendency to seek meaning in life is invariably at odds with the
human inability to find any. How, then, should humans attempt to resolve this dissonance? In The
Stranger, Camus addresses this question by developing the character of Meursault, the novel s
narrator and protagonist (and, one could argue, anti hero) who is sentenced to execution for killing
another man. At the start of the novel, Meursault merely feels indifferent about his bland existence
and the people and events around him. As the story progresses, however, Meursault transforms into
a man who understands the source of that indifference and who is able to not only realize that the
world lacks objective meaning, but, even more importantly, live freely in spite of that
uncomfortable truth. It is only after accepting his fate and the absurdity of the universe that he
attains true freedom and a state of serenity, in contrast with the dejected state of a suicidal nihilist
and the anxious plight of an individual searching for nonexistent meaning. Meursault s
philosophical evolution dramatizes the essence of Camus contention that in order to surmount the
dilemma of the absurd and achieve freedom, one must recognize the objective meaninglessness of
life and then proceed to create one s own personal meaning by living in spite of this absurdity, while
recognizing the artificial nature of that

Who Was The Captain Of Industry During The Industrial...
79194
Think about how much power that America has today, have you ever thought about who was
responsible? Many people sacrificed many things to grow America to the powerhouse that it is
today, whether it be the illegal selfish acts people used to become rich, the grown men forcing
young children into labor, or the sacrifice of turning the global environment into a future wasteland,
without them we would not be anywhere close to the success we are at today.
The Industrial revolution delivered both wonders and worries to America. Although the Industrial
Revolution turned America into the richest and most successful nation, it also brought hardships
and corruption. The outcomes of the Industrial Revolution were greatly influenced by two groups
of people: The Captains of Industry, and the Robber Barons. The Captains of Industry are the men
responsible for the success of America during the Industrial Revolution. The guys mostly
remembered for their dedication and work for America are, Andrew Carnegie, J.P. Morgan, and
John D Rockefeller. J.P Morgan was a very successful and influential man who made his money
from banking and owning many companies and stocks. He is mostly known for bailing out the
National Government and saving the country from an economic downfall. Andrew Carnegie and
John D Rockefeller could be considered on both sides of the spectrum. They made steel and oil

The Four Noble Truths Essay
The Four Noble Truths One of the most important sharing in the Buddha s first sermon is the Four
Noble Truths. The First Noble Truth is the truth of duhkha that life is dissatisfactory. The Buddha
explained it from four aspects physical changing, mental emotional process, unpleasant things, and
not processing the things one wants. The Second Noble Truth illustrates the cause of duhkha. It
seems that craving is the cause of all sufferings. Actually, it is the idea of selfness which produces
ignorance, the first constituent of the twelve nidhana, and leads to craving and thirst. The Third
Noble Truth demonstrates the cessation of unsatisfactory state. According to the twelve nidhana,
removing ignorance will eliminate craving and finally cease... Show more content on

Buddha explained it from three aspects. First of all, we can t prevent the changing condition of
physical life. We can t stop from growing old, can t get rid of getting sick, and can t control dying
or giving birth in the six realms. The physical changing itself already lets people down. Lack of
ability to manage the physical changing makes us even more unsatisfied about lives. The
second point is that we can t get permanent happiness. Although no one will deny that we feel
happy sometimes, all pleasure we get will not last forever. For example, during the time I
applied for universities and colleges for undergraduate study, I was so happy when I received
the offer from UNC. But, one month later, I can t feel the same level of happiness as the day I
saw the congratulations on the letter. We always believe that we will get lasting happiness after
we realize something, however, we won t. Therefore, the gap between what we want and what we
actually get causes the dissatisfactoriness. The last aspect is that personal and social duhkha are
caused by changing states of human. If one has the negative emotions like angry, hatred, greed, and
delusion, he or she will project these personal feelings to family and friends, and even cause war,
political repression or other social turbulences. All three points demonstrate that life is
dissatisfactory, which is exactly the truth of

The Impact of Prejudice and Discrimination on Society

Discrimination, Stereotyping, and Scapegoat. It will also look at two case studies in order to
illustrate prejudice and discrimination in action.
Prejudice and Discrimination
Prejudice and Discrimination are difficult to separate as they typically appear together. Prejudice is
defined as A preconceived opinion . while Discrimination is defined as Biased or unfavourable
treatment , both taken from Oxford Dictionary and Thesaurus 3 (Oxford University Press, 2001).
Discrimination converts the mental process of prejudice into action. It is wildly accepted that

After WWI Germany was a shadow of her former self; her economy was limping along like an

unemployed workers in Germany. Germany was in the grips of a depression. The German people
were angry, they hated the Allies for doing this to them. Hatred was growing throughout the minds
of the German people. It is conceivable that Hitler knew this, if he did know this it is also
conceivable that he could direct his people anger and hatred inward. The Jews were a suitable
enemy in Hitler s mind. By providing his people with a common enemy he was able to unify
them behind him. His mighty propaganda machine started to roll, he blamed the Jews for
Germany s defeat in WWI, he blamed them for German s many social and economic problems.
He frightened the ruling classes by accusing the Jews of being in league with the communists.
German Jews were made to wear armbands with Stars of David on them. They were beaten in
the streets by groups of thugs. Jewish business were targeted; they were forced to paint Stars of

The Books Of Matthew And 1 Corinthians
Hermeneutical Matthew and 1 Corinthians The books of Matthew and 1 Corinthians are mainly
focused around love and what that is supposed to look like through Christ. Starting with Matthew, it
begins by walking us through the birth of Jesus and all of the events that took place during and
after. It also talks about his baptism and specifically that John the baptist was who performed it.
After everything about Jesusearly life is introduced, it jumps straight into his preaching. Chapter
four of Matthew is where it really begins to talk about Jesus work. Not only does it introduce us
to his preaching styles, but it also quickly introduces Satin who seems to follow Jesus around for
a while attempting to cause problems. Matthew chapter four tells you right off the bat what is
about to take place. The first verse says, Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to
be tempted by the devil. (NIV Matthew 4:1). At this point, Jesus had fasted for forty days and
forty nights, and the first temptation form the devil was food. He says, ...If you are the Son of
God, tell these stones to become bread. (NIV Matthew 4:3). Jesus of course rejects his temptation
and the many more that followed. After these events took place, Jesus leaves to begin his
preaching. In doing so, he also chooses his disciples while walking along the Sea of Galilee. Jesus
took his disciples with him through Galilee and began his preaching there. He healed the sick and
suffering, and also performed

University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) in Galveston. It has a long and storied history of
providing innovative burn care to its patients. The Burn unit was initially founded after a massive
explosion in Texas City Harbor that injured hundreds of people in 1944. Since inception, the unit
has dealt with disaster both fabricated and natural. In 2008, the BBU was one of only a handful
of services to remain open and operational after Hurricane Ike landed and dealt massive injury to
UTMB. The BBU not only sustained operations but also briefly expanded to provide pediatric burn
care when Shriners Burns Hospitalwas subsequently unable to reopen post hurricane. This paper
will detail the realities confronted by the BBU both currently, and in the future, with an exploration
as to those implications on fiscal outlook and provision of care.

Humidification
Process gases rarely require humidification, but one example of a gas that needs to be humidified
is medical gas such as the oxygen supplied to a patient (Figure 10). The oxygen causes the nasal
passages to dry, and humidification adds moisture to increase patient comfort. Figure 10 Oxygen
humidifier.
The most common example of process humidification is adding moisture to the air stream in a
heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) system (Figure 11). In northern climates, dry
outdoor air enters the HVAC system. Moisture can be added to the intake air to maintain
comfortable inside humidity levels.

6.The humidity is adjusted according to the outdoor air temperature sensed by temperature

7.The humidity transmitter (HT 2) senses the return air humidity, and the steam valve is set to
maintain the return air humidity. The return air comes from the conditioned space, so it is an
accurate indication of interior humidity. Humidity is lowered during colder periods to prevent
excessive condensation.
8.Humidity limit controller 1 (HL 1) measures the supply air humidity immediately downstream
from the humidifier.
9.When the humidity levels leaving the humidifier rise above the setpoint, HL 1 overrides the
steam valve through the low select relay. This is a limit control strategy that prevents excess
moisture from being added to the air during a system start up or following an adjustment to the HC 1

Addiction And Substance Abuse
What is addiction and substance abuse? The term addiction holds many different meanings in today
s society, but in the past it has been referred to as a sort of devotion to something. Over time, a more
modern definition of the term has developed that links addiction to harmful involvement with drugs
that eventually has potential of produce withdrawal or tolerance in an individual (Alexander
Schweighofer, 1988). Although the word addictionholds a more general meaning in a modern
context it pertains to any kind of compulsive use. Current psychological authorities refer to drug

Although methadone has become the most popular in opioid addiction treatment, the issue with
this treatment is that it is only able to be prescribed by clinicians to a certain amount of patients
(Wesson Smith, 2010). As a result, many other medications have been researched and studied for
treatment such as, buprenorphine. Buprenorphine prescribed by a physician in their office to a
client, and then the client is then able to take the prescription in the comfort of their own home
(Wesson et al, 2010). This, unlike methadone is prescribed as a tablet or an injectable formulation,
or a generic powder (Wesson et al, 2010). While the two drugs have contrasts, they also have much
in common. For example, they may decrease risky behaviors of addicts and preserve cognitive
function in early treatment. Buprenorphine works in the brain similarly to methadone, and it allows
for an abuser to maintain treatment in the comfort of their own home, at their own convince rather
than at the demand of a clinician. Buprenorphine is considered a partial opiate agonist meaning it is
an antagonist at the kappa opiate receptor (Wesson et al, 2010). This explains the dysphoria and
other unpleasant effect that may be produced by the drug in opiate users (Wesson et al, 2010).

Limiting Reactant Lab
INTRODUCTION When two substances undergo a chemical reaction, often times one of the
reactants will be completely used up before the other. This reactant is known as the limiting
reactant. A limiting reactant is the substance that controls or limits the amount of product which
can be formed. For example, think about it in terms of making grilled cheese. If one grilled cheese
requires two slices of bread and one slice of cheese, but there are four pieces of bread and one piece
of cheese, only one grilled cheese can be made because there is one slice of cheese. This would
make the cheese a limiting reactant and two other slices of bread will be unused and left in excess.
This is known as an excess reactant. In a chemical reactionthe excess... Show more content on

Unfortunately, achieving this task is very unlikely due to three major unavoidable sources of
error. The first one being the adherent property of the precipitate. The precipitate had a tendency
to stick to the sides of the beaker and even the bottom of the stirring rod. Even after attempting to
wash it off, most was able to be cleaned but a little bit of the precipitate was still stuck and would
not come off. This leads to having less than the actual yield. Another source of error was that the
size of the filter paper was awfully small. This made it so the chances of spilling the precipitate and
not getting it in the funnel was much greater than it should have been. Some of the product was lost
during the transfer from the beaker to the funnel due to this factor, in the end reducing the total
yield recovered. Lastly the substances used may not be 100% pure, this means that the mass of the
reactants could have been less than the actual measured amount. This means the mathematically
calculated theoretical yield was larger than it should have been. These impurities in the reactants
do not yield the full desired products so the yield will almost always end up being less than

Schools Need 21st Century Materials And Resources
Schools need 21st century materials and resources to serve 21st century students. There needs to be
a change in ideology regarding the function of the library in todays society. For centuries, libraries
have remained essentially separate, even competing with one another to establish and maintain the
greatest collection, and now they need to recast themselves as platforms rather than storehouses.
(Palfrey, 2015) With the introduction of the internet and online information libraries need to
rebrand themselves. Libraries around the world can now share information with one another in real
time, and the competition for resources has ended. That said, there is still value in networking with
other agencies devoted to educationand information. John Palfrey, author of Biblio Tech suggests
that, Libraries must act as ambitiously networked institutions, connecting their network effectively
with partner intuitions: archives, historical societies, museums, and other cultural heritage
organizations. (2015) More agencies are partnering up to give their patrons access to the best and
most credible information.

six number one albums (Graff), the Eagles were one of the most successful bands of the 1970s.
Their music changed history in their time. Many of their songs on their number one albums got

Another con was that horsemeat in the system posed severe health risks to those who consumed

this means that slaughterhouses are also a risk to the environment as well as people s health, as

characters throughout Victor s life and his creation of the monster. In addition, the movie Mary
Shelley s Frankenstein directed by Kenneth Branagh also does the same, but includes a couple
twists. The novel first published in 1818, includes grammar and language from the 19th century.
Written in an older type of English allows for the reader to have a rough, but a more in depth
reading of the book. The movie made in 1994, uses more 20th century language and many filming
techniques. Some actors of the movie include Robert De Niro, who acts as the monster, Helena
Bonham Carter plays as Elizabeth and the director of the movie plays as Victor. Within both works
they use different setting locations, for example the North Arctic Ocean, London, the University of
Ingolstadt and others. Furthermore, the movie also uses these locations to keep the two in sync
through the timeline and events. Both works provide many similarities when it comes to themes.
For example, both show how society reacts to the monster, and the idea of revenge between Victor
and his creation. To summarize the two, in 1794, in the Arctic Sea, Captain Robert Walton is a

hits an iceberg and becomes stranded. In the novel Walton and his crew become stranded because
the boat can no longer push through the ice; so the men

I am new to the hobby of keeping and maintaining an aquarium. My boyfriend, Andrew, gave me
an aquarium for my birthday two months ago. I was very excited. When I was little, my family
had two goldfish in a small, round bowl. Watching my mother clean out the tank was the extent to
which I knew how to care for fish. The aquarium that Andrew gave me is an Eclipse 6; a six gallon
aquarium equipped with a bio wheel filtration system. The bio wheel system is a three step
filtration system: the water is sucked out of the aquarium into a tube, passed along a carbon filter,
and then into a chamber that houses a bio wheel a small rotating filter that absorbs impurities from
the water. Finally, the water is dropped back... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was very hard at first but I finally caught on. The first challenge that I had to overcome was the
intimidation factor that the computer and the Internet caused. I was constantly worried that I would
inadvertently damage a program, or a file, and I was therefore hesitant and apprehensive. I realized
that allowing myself to experiment with things was the only way that I would truly learn to get
around the web.
And the search began. Since I was not familiar with what was available to people on the Internet,
I began playing around while searching for my topic of interest: aquariums. I searched the web
by typing key words in a search engine like Yahoo or Lycos. This took me to several sites on the
topic of fish keeping. I ran across the FAQ s web site called The Aquaria. This site gave me tons
of helpful information regarding the steps I needed to follow to start up and keep a healthy
aquarium. I learned that the gravel should be rinsed thoroughly before going into the tank
something I had not done and, thinking back, how I introduced disaster into my first attempts at
setting up a tank. I also learned that the aquarium needed to run for at least a week without any
fish in it so that the many levels of chemicals in the water could have a chance to stabilize. After
looking at several other sites, I finally felt that I too could keep a healthy aquarium and

Impact Of Trauma
Assessing the Impact of Trauma
Almost weekly, we are faced hear of a large scale crisis, as well as a low scale. The impact that
these traumatic events are having on children cannot be ignored. It is becoming apparent of the
ongoing need of addressing crises, trauma, and the effects on children. The need for crisis
intervention services; especially for children is necessary. However, not every childwho has
experienced trauma needs a trauma focused treatment. As such there are some traumatic
experiences that indicate the need for an immediate referral (Myer, Peterson, Willow 2002). For the
counselor, it is important to understand the meaning of the event for the child and from there to

  • 2. The Manchurian Candidate by Johnathan Demme Essay The Manchurian Candidate, Johnathan Demme directed the remake. Both films portray paranoia, mind control, and conspiracy. Frankenheimer utilizes satire, humor, and symbolism to convey the themes, whereas, Demme uses modern fears, camera angles and focus, and mental illness to achieve similar results. Many of the elements of the 2004 remake have been modernized. While the original movie placed the soldiers in Korea, the remake placed them in Kuwait. Demme did changed the location of the war, in order to appeal to current fears and suspicions. In 1962, the threat of communism was at the forefront of everyone s thoughts. However, during 2004, only three years after the 9/11 terrorist attacks, citizens were no longer concerned about... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The film switches between perspectives of the ladies garden party and the communist officials to stress the comic surrealism of the situation. The calm and genteel ladies garden party is a stark contrast to the evil plotting of the communists. Image overlay as well as soft lighting are also used to convey the surrealism and dreamlike quality. The absurd way that Eleanor s husband, Senator Iselin, presents the supposed number (which he is constantly changing) of communists in the state department, satirizes the Red Scare and McCarthyism. Many of the accused communists during the red scare were merely from wild speculation caused by irrational fear and political movements to get rid of the opposition. It was also ironic that Eleanor, who had her husband present the fake number of communists, was actually the communist herself. The role of a mother is also satirized in the film. The 1950 s portrayed mothers as pure and wholesome, however Eleanor is portrayed as the evil and conniving perpetrator of peril. The remake focused on keeping the audience and Major Marco in a constant state of paranoia and uncertainty. In the original movie, the audience is shown, as well as told by the narrator, that the platoon was captured and brainwashed by communists. Whereas, in the remake, Major Marco and the ... The only reason I became interested in the environment was when I found out about environmental justice and environmental racism. In other words, because of people. Before I made that connection sometime in high school, I, like many others, never viewed nature as something that should be, rather something that just was. Give an example of parallel editing that you notice in The Terminator. a.Parallel editing is method of editing scenes that shows two separate incidents happening at once. In The Terminator, this editing method was used when, after calling Sarah Conner pretending to be her mom, the terminator comes to the hotel that she and Kyle were staying at. During this scene, the scene where Sarah Conner and Kyle are talking and preparing to leave and the scene where the terminator is approaching the hotel crosscuts. Thus, the audience knows that the danger is approaching. b.Montage sequence is group of shots that marks the change in time or the unfolding of a process. (Nichols, 2010) c.Master shot is a shot that provides an overview of the scene showing all the characters movement and gestures. It is different from establishing shot in that establishing shot often puts a bigger action into play. These theories express the structure of society in which each theory looks at a different aspects of sociology. Sociologists apply these theories in the study of society, but it becomes difficult if only one theory is applied. For that one applied theory, would only look at the aspect to which it is confined to. To successfully study sociologyall three theories must be applied together. Critical theory was founded by the German philosopher Karl Marx (Little, 2016, p. 12). It was originally known as historical materialism which is a critical analysis of capitalism that saw the material or economic basis of inequality and power relations as the cause of social instability and conflict (Little, 2016, p. 12). Critical sociology can be defined as the inequality and power relations in society in order to achieve social justice and emancipation through their transformations (Little, 2016, p. 45). Novack describes critical theory as, Marx s sociology is essentially, the sociology of conflict and class (Novack, 1982, p. 51 52). This was because some of Marx s views were based on freeing the people from the capitalist structure, which to him were oppressing the lower class citizens (Little, 2016, p. 14). Analysis Of The Article No Women No War Stephanie Knowles 2/10/2015 Article Summary (No Women No war) The article No women no war was written by Pasi Loman , a post graduate student from university of Nottingham. Loman discusses about the role of Greek women in defending their cities and communities. The author attempts to clarify the assumptions made by modern scholars or authors that women did not play a part in foreign military campaigns i.e. war. Loman discusses about Greek women and their views, emotion and reaction based on warfare, the impossible existence of amazons. The reason for the author making this an argument is because of misjudgment even thou women have had an active role in war. The only side shown by most researchers is when, women are either rejoicing for the victory of their soldiers or the mourning for their country. But the authors makes a point to look at the facts about Greek women and if they have been credited enough for their participation and support in war. Loman compares the contrasts the research done by other authors like Plutarch who states that Spartan women were hard cored when it came to war it was a do or die deal for them they were not very pleased with their sons if they came home defeated some women would kill their sons instead of accepting defeat. They underwent physical training to learn how to protect them self and their cities. Loman, Pasi. No women no war. greece and Rome, seacond series, Vol.51,No1 , 2004: 34 54. Resolving The Dilemma Of The Absurd Amir Rezvani Mr. Pyle Period 6 AP Literature and Composition May 1, 2016 Resolving the Dilemma of the Absurd The human tendency to seek meaning in life is invariably at odds with the human inability to find any. How, then, should humans attempt to resolve this dissonance? In The Stranger, Camus addresses this question by developing the character of Meursault, the novel s narrator and protagonist (and, one could argue, anti hero) who is sentenced to execution for killing another man. At the start of the novel, Meursault merely feels indifferent about his bland existence and the people and events around him. As the story progresses, however, Meursault transforms into a man who understands the source of that indifference and who is able to not only realize that the world lacks objective meaning, but, even more importantly, live freely in spite of that uncomfortable truth. It is only after accepting his fate and the absurdity of the universe that he attains true freedom and a state of serenity, in contrast with the dejected state of a suicidal nihilist and the anxious plight of an individual searching for nonexistent meaning. Meursault s philosophical evolution dramatizes the essence of Camus contention that in order to surmount the dilemma of the absurd and achieve freedom, one must recognize the objective meaninglessness of life and then proceed to create one s own personal meaning by living in spite of this absurdity, while recognizing the artificial nature of that ... The Industrial revolution delivered both wonders and worries to America. Although the Industrial Revolution turned America into the richest and most successful nation, it also brought hardships and corruption. The outcomes of the Industrial Revolution were greatly influenced by two groups of people: The Captains of Industry, and the Robber Barons. The Captains of Industry are the men responsible for the success of America during the Industrial Revolution. The guys mostly remembered for their dedication and work for America are, Andrew Carnegie, J.P. Morgan, and John D Rockefeller. J.P Morgan was a very successful and influential man who made his money from banking and owning many companies and stocks. He is mostly known for bailing out the National Government and saving the country from an economic downfall. Andrew Carnegie and John D Rockefeller could be considered on both sides of the spectrum. • 27. The Four Noble Truths Essay The Four Noble Truths One of the most important sharing in the Buddha s first sermon is the Four Noble Truths. The First Noble Truth is the truth of duhkha that life is dissatisfactory. The Buddha explained it from four aspects physical changing, mental emotional process, unpleasant things, and not processing the things one wants. The Second Noble Truth illustrates the cause of duhkha. It seems that craving is the cause of all sufferings. Actually, it is the idea of selfness which produces ignorance, the first constituent of the twelve nidhana, and leads to craving and thirst. The Third Noble Truth demonstrates the cessation of unsatisfactory state. According to the twelve nidhana, removing ignorance will eliminate craving and finally cease... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Buddha explained it from three aspects. First of all, we can t prevent the changing condition of physical life. We can t stop from growing old, can t get rid of getting sick, and can t control dying or giving birth in the six realms. The physical changing itself already lets people down. Lack of ability to manage the physical changing makes us even more unsatisfied about lives. The second point is that we can t get permanent happiness. Although no one will deny that we feel happy sometimes, all pleasure we get will not last forever. For example, during the time I applied for universities and colleges for undergraduate study, I was so happy when I received the offer from UNC. But, one month later, I can t feel the same level of happiness as the day I saw the congratulations on the letter. We always believe that we will get lasting happiness after we realize something, however, we won t. Therefore, the gap between what we want and what we actually get causes the dissatisfactoriness. The last aspect is that personal and social duhkha are caused by changing states of human. If one has the negative emotions like angry, hatred, greed, and delusion, he or she will project these personal feelings to family and friends, and even cause war, political repression or other social turbulences. All three points demonstrate that life is dissatisfactory, which is exactly the truth of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Books Of Matthew And 1 Corinthians Hermeneutical Matthew and 1 Corinthians The books of Matthew and 1 Corinthians are mainly focused around love and what that is supposed to look like through Christ. Starting with Matthew, it begins by walking us through the birth of Jesus and all of the events that took place during and after. It also talks about his baptism and specifically that John the baptist was who performed it. After everything about Jesusearly life is introduced, it jumps straight into his preaching. Chapter four of Matthew is where it really begins to talk about Jesus work. Not only does it introduce us to his preaching styles, but it also quickly introduces Satin who seems to follow Jesus around for a while attempting to cause problems. Matthew chapter four tells you right off the bat what is about to take place. The first verse says, Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. (NIV Matthew 4:1). At this point, Jesus had fasted for forty days and forty nights, and the first temptation form the devil was food. He says, ...If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread. The oxygen causes the nasal passages to dry, and humidification adds moisture to increase patient comfort. Figure 10 Oxygen humidifier. The most common example of process humidification is adding moisture to the air stream in a heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) system (Figure 11). In northern climates, dry outdoor air enters the HVAC system. Moisture can be added to the intake air to maintain comfortable inside humidity levels. Figure 11 Building humidification. Although methadone has become the most popular in opioid addiction treatment, the issue with this treatment is that it is only able to be prescribed by clinicians to a certain amount of patients (Wesson Smith, 2010). As a result, many other medications have been researched and studied for treatment such as, buprenorphine. Buprenorphine prescribed by a physician in their office to a client, and then the client is then able to take the prescription in the comfort of their own home (Wesson et al, 2010). This, unlike methadone is prescribed as a tablet or an injectable formulation, or a generic powder (Wesson et al, 2010). While the two drugs have contrasts, they also have much in common. For example, they may decrease risky behaviors of addicts and preserve cognitive function in early treatment. Buprenorphine works in the brain similarly to methadone, and it allows for an abuser to maintain treatment in the comfort of their own home, at their own convince rather than at the demand of a clinician. Buprenorphine is considered a partial opiate agonist meaning it is an antagonist at the kappa opiate receptor (Wesson et al, 2010). • 36. Limiting Reactant Lab INTRODUCTION When two substances undergo a chemical reaction, often times one of the reactants will be completely used up before the other. This reactant is known as the limiting reactant. A limiting reactant is the substance that controls or limits the amount of product which can be formed. For example, think about it in terms of making grilled cheese. If one grilled cheese requires two slices of bread and one slice of cheese, but there are four pieces of bread and one piece of cheese, only one grilled cheese can be made because there is one slice of cheese. This would make the cheese a limiting reactant and two other slices of bread will be unused and left in excess. This is known as an excess reactant. In a chemical reactionthe excess... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Unfortunately, achieving this task is very unlikely due to three major unavoidable sources of error. The first one being the adherent property of the precipitate. The precipitate had a tendency to stick to the sides of the beaker and even the bottom of the stirring rod. Even after attempting to wash it off, most was able to be cleaned but a little bit of the precipitate was still stuck and would not come off. This leads to having less than the actual yield. Another source of error was that the size of the filter paper was awfully small. This made it so the chances of spilling the precipitate and not getting it in the funnel was much greater than it should have been. Some of the product was lost during the transfer from the beaker to the funnel due to this factor, in the end reducing the total yield recovered. Lastly the substances used may not be 100% pure, this means that the mass of the reactants could have been less than the actual measured amount. This means the mathematically calculated theoretical yield was larger than it should have been. These impurities in the reactants do not yield the full desired products so the yield will almost always end up being less than ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There needs to be a change in ideology regarding the function of the library in todays society. For centuries, libraries have remained essentially separate, even competing with one another to establish and maintain the greatest collection, and now they need to recast themselves as platforms rather than storehouses. (Palfrey, 2015) With the introduction of the internet and online information libraries need to rebrand themselves. Libraries around the world can now share information with one another in real time, and the competition for resources has ended. That said, there is still value in networking with other agencies devoted to educationand information. John Palfrey, author of Biblio Tech suggests that, Libraries must act as ambitiously networked institutions, connecting their network effectively with partner intuitions: archives, historical societies, museums, and other cultural heritage organizations. (2015) More agencies are partnering up to give their patrons access to the best and most credible information.

The novel Frankenstein written by Mary Shelley explains many themes and characters throughout Victor s life and his creation of the monster. In addition, the movie Mary Shelley s Frankenstein directed by Kenneth Branagh also does the same, but includes a couple twists. The novel first published in 1818, includes grammar and language from the 19th century. Written in an older type of English allows for the reader to have a rough, but a more in depth reading of the book. The movie made in 1994, uses more 20th century language and many filming techniques. Some actors of the movie include Robert De Niro, who acts as the monster, Helena Bonham Carter plays as Elizabeth and the director of the movie plays as Victor. Within both works they use different setting locations, for example the North Arctic Ocean, London, the University of Ingolstadt and others. Furthermore, the movie also uses these locations to keep the two in sync through the timeline and events. Both works provide many similarities when it comes to themes. For example, both show how society reacts to the monster, and the idea of revenge between Victor and his creation. To summarize the two, in 1794, in the Arctic Sea, Captain Robert Walton is a man obsessed to reach the North Pole, pushing his crew to exhaustion.
