My Teacher As A Good Teacher
When my teacher assigned our new essay, I felt as this one might be a bit of a struggle. I was
too busy worrying about my SAT and I kept having second thoughts about what I planned to do.
Then, I remembered how terrible my school teachers were and decided why not just write about
that. Throughout my school life I ve encountered many teachers who I would consider to be bad
teachers. I find it funny how some people only become teachers, so they can get an easy paying
job. A bad teacher is someone who assigns work and sits back in their desk, one who assigns the
same type of assignment, and one who gives up because he or she can t get the students to calm
down. A teacher who just sits in his or her desk is one critical example of a bad teacher. My eight
grade math teacher would assign us work, show us one or two examples and sit back in her
desk. Often times the warm up would be what the assignment would be over, but it was only the
basics. Another one of my teachers was my sixth grade English teacher. This teacher was even
worse; all we did in class was sit and sometimes go over simple comprehension skills. On most
days he would sit on his desk and stay on his Blackberry playing Tetris, or Bridge Breaker. I m
not sure how some teachers manage to keep their job when they behave like this. Still, I was glad
I passed my Taks Test that year. I thought this would be the last of my bad teacher s experiences,
but it went on all the way to high school. Quitting is another example of

Essay on The Everlasting Dark Shadow of Romanticism
For many, saying or hearing the word romanticism evokes numerous stereotypical and prejudged
definitions and emotions. The biggest reason this probably happens is because of how closely
romanticism sounds like romance. The similarity of the sounds and spelling of the two words can
lead to some thinking that the two words mean the same thing or are closely related. Although
romanticismand romance do share some similarities in their spelling and pronunciation they
couldn t be more different. In the Merriam Webster Dictionary romance is defined as, a love story
. The Romantic Period was not necessarily a time of true romance and love stories, although love
was written about, but was instead a time of extreme emotion expressed in many... Show more

Whether Shelley anticipated that her story of reanimation and death turning to life would be her
masterwork is unknown, although it is likely that she never anticipated the kind of response that
her little tale would immediately receive and the impact that it would still have today. Frankenstein
is one of the greatest examples of Romantic writing. One of the biggest traits of Romanticism that
the story possesses is the inclusion of the Byronic hero. Victor Frankenstein s creation is a hideous,
murdering, and vengeful being but the reader can t help being fascinated by the monster and
wanting to see what he will do next. The way that the monster is written can also make the reader
want to root for him in certain parts of the story. The monster is actually an incredibly sympathetic
character. Even though the monster kills everyone that Victor loves and he performs numerous acts
of evil, the reader can still sympathize with the character and understand his motives. Unlike in
most of the film interpretations of Frankenstein and the stereotypical idea of what the monster is,
he is textually very intelligent, calculated, and isn t the slow moving speechless mongoloid that
pop culture has made him out to be. The monster even sorrowfully gives his own type of self eulogy

Solution Brief Therapy Intervention For Treatment And...
Solution Brief Therapy Intervention Identify the family members who are motivated for treatment
and arrange an initial interview. Collect specific data on the problem (what has not worked in the
past). Set specific goals. Develop a plan to create change. Intervene in ways that interrupts the
ineffective solutions. Assess outcome of treatment and terminate.
Specific Active Ingredients:
a.Developing a cooperative therapeutic alliance with the client.
b.Creating a solution versus focusing on the problem.
c.Setting measurable changeable goals.
d.Focusing on the future through future oriented questions and discussions.
e.Scaling the ongoing attainment of the goals to get the client s evaluation of the progress made.
f.Focusing the conversation on exceptions to the client s problem.
Main interventions:
A positive, collegial, solution focused stance the overall attitude of the therapist is positive,
respectful, and hopeful. The general assumption is that people are resilient and continuously utilize
this to make changes. There is a strong belief that most people have the strength, wisdom, and
experience to effect change. Looking for previous solutions the thought is that most people have
previously solved many problems, even if for a short time.
Looking for exceptions That is, times when the problem could have happened but didn t, that can
be used by the client and therapist to co construct solutions. No problem happens all the time.

Bird Life In The Daintree Rainforest
Evolution is the process by which a population shows heritable genetic changes over a period of
time. Hypothetically, a unique bird adapted to the rainforest and passed on those traits to the
next generation. This bird lacks feathers, swims, and uses its extra sharp beak in order to survive
in a rainy, humid, and tropical environment with other animals. If the bird lives in the Daintree
Rainforest, it would have to adapt to an average of 2013 mm of rain per year, about 120 days of
rain each year, and floods due to the heavy rain. With this abundance of water, flora and fauna
thrive. Fruit, flowers, insects and spiders, baby opossums, and lizards are available for our
featherless bird. Although, it tends to stay away from more vicious

Negative Effects Of Conscription On Canadian Society
Sir Wilfrid Laurier declared I oppose conscription because in it has the seeds of discord and
disunion
(Newman, 94). Conscription is compulsory military service. It caused hatred, riots and protests that
divided Canada severely. It was the cause that tore the delicate balance between the French and
English Canadian relationship. The conservative party, who had first introduced conscription, still
find it difficult to receive votes from Quebec, even after
50 years. (CBC, 14) Conscription was not justified as it negatively impacted not just Canadian
society, it created political problems and caused a severe division between Canada s two linguistic
groups. Conscription negatively impacted Canadian society. This bill stripped... Show more content

The Wartime Elections Act gave both male and female family members of soldiers the right to vote.
Borden was positive that these specific citizens would vote for him in the election, because these
new voters would support conscription, desperate to give their soldiers reinforcement and relief
(Quinlan, 32). Although the act was in
Borden s favor in the upcoming election, his effort to rig it caused much bitterness in the political
parties (Quinlan,
32). This election tore apart Canada. Party meetings were full of heated arguments and disputes.
While the French
Canadians were seen as cowards, and the English were viewed as dictators. The Unionists won 153
seats, but only
3 were from Quebec. Wilfrid Laurier s liberals scored 62 seats out of 82 from Quebec (Quinlan,
32). Adding to the list of political problems, Borden had initially promised no overseas conscription.
When he retreated from this promise, this made Canadian citizens distrustful of their government.
A country cannot be led strongly when its citizens do not trust their country leaders.
Conscription caused a severe division between Canada s two major linguistic groups, the English
and
French Canadians. The French were unwilling to volunteer as they saw it as a British War.
Although France was under attack, they felt little loyalty to their mother country. Many believed
that Canada had already done its part in the war, arguing

Based on the French novel D Entre les Morts by Pierre Boileau and Thomas Narcejac, Vertigo is
arguably one of Alfred Hitchcock s masterpieces and the strangest, yet most hauntingly beautiful
film he had ever made (Adair, 2002). At the time, its far fetched plot drew a mixed response from
critics Time magazine called the movie a Hitchcock and bull story but today most agree that it is
one of the director s most deeply felt pictures. Vertigovery easily categorized into a specific genre

He finally settles down onto the couch, facing away from the toilet door, waiting. As the
bathroom door opens, he turns to his left, and we only see his left profile (Fig 1.), a mirror
image to the first time he set eyes on Madeleine in the restaurant unsure, and this time, full of
anticipation. We are reminded of the green motif, by the neon light outside Judy s apartment. As
Scottie turns around to fully see the resurrected Madeleine, he slowly stands up and at this point
the music starts to pick up, leading us to the point at which he sees his beloved. The camera
tracks into a close up of Scottie s face, with the green light reflecting off his eye, he almost looks
like he has tears in his eyes (Fig 2.). Cut to Judy/ Madeleine stepping out of the toilet, it is Scottie
s POV of Madeleine bathed in ghostly green light. Similar to the scene in the cemetery where
Madeleine was shot through a fog filter, which gave her the green glow, Judy/ Madeleine now
had green light superimposed around her body, which gave her the appearance of a blurred,
ghostly figure (Fig 3.). This reflected Madeleine coming back from the dead, now a ghost, as
green is usually used to represent ghost or spirits in film. She then slips out of the blur and into
focus, Hitchcock used this to indicate Scottie s come back to reality, coming to his senses as he
spots the locket in the next scene, realizing that Judy has been tricking him all along (Truffaut,
1985).

A Decsription of Torque
Torques
Introduction During this lab you will become more familiar with the concepts of torque. The
purpose of this lab is to determine if the rotational equilibrium condition, ОЈП„ = 0, holds

Theory For a body to be in static equilibrium, two conditions have to be met:
ОЈF = 0 and ОЈП„ = 0 where F is force and П„ is torque. (The torque is the force times the lever
arm, r) The first condition, ОЈF = 0, is concerned with translational equilibrium and ensures that the
object is at rest or is moving at a uniform linear velocity. The second condition, ОЈП„ = 0, is

Therefore, there is a trend in the number of species found in each stream type based on the
riparian habitat. As the amount of organic pollution increased, there should have been a decrease
in the species richness of the streams. Species richness also has an effect on the processing of
leaf material. Less species richness due to organic pollution forces the litter breakdown to be
dependent on microbial activity rather than shredders (Masese et al. 2014). In addition,
microbial breakdown of leaf litter is accelerated by the presence of nutrients, which is high in
agricultural streams (Masese et al. 2014). Therefore, the species richness of the agricultural
stream should have been low and leaf processing would be controlled by bacteria. Although the
agricultural stream had the highest species richness, the relative frequency of shredders was very
low compared to the other functional feeding groups shown in Figure 3. Likewise, due to the
organic pollution present in urban streams, it would be expected to have a low species richness
and thus any leaf material would be processed by microbes as well. Furthermore, the forest stream
should have had the highest species richness, which would in turn impact leaf processing by
having the shredders drive leaf litter breakdown rather than microbes. The Family Biotic Index
describes the water quality of a stream by averaging the tolerance values of all the individuals that
were sampled (Hilsenhoff 1988). Based on the equation,

Financial Aspect Of Climate Risk Management
Financial Aspect of Climate Risk Management
Climate change is a lethal and destructive force. In the recent past major climatic events like floods,
tsunamis etc. have led to substantial destruction of wealth. Such events have highlighted the need
of mechanisms for risk sharing of the losses and restoring the lost human and infrastructural capital.
The climate change agreement declared on December 12, 2015 was one of the highlights of the
year. It showcased the resolve of various nations in fighting climate change. It was a welcome
change from Copenhagen.
Climate Change and its Effects
The major target for financial sector is to provide jobs, economic welfare to the thriving population,
without damaging environmental balance. It is the role of the financial sector to help in managing
climate risk and help society recuperate from it. Any climate risk directly or indirectly affects the
financial sector in a huge manner. Whenever a climatic catastrophe occurs, the number of insurance
claims rise exponentially. Global Insurance claims have risen from 5.1 billion US dollars annually
in the 1970 s to 27 billion US dollars per year in 2014.
Figure 1: Losses due to various climate scenarios Source: World Resources Institute
Climate variability also affects agricultural sector in a major way. It affects food availability and
security and may lead to rise of poverty as well. As a natural calamity affects the agricultural
sector, it leads to loss of income of agriculture

Underground Railroads And The Underground Railroad
Underground railroads were a network of secret routes and safe houses used during the 19th
century slaves from African descent that were in the United States, and wanted escape to the
free states and Canada. The safe houses located on these routes were run by abolitionists and
people that were sympathetic towards slaves. The Underground Railroad reached its height
during the 1850s and 1860s. It s difficult to determine how many people actually traveled the
routes and made it to freedom, but it is estimated that somewhere around 100,000 slaves
journeyed along these paths. It is unfortunate however, that not many people of this 100,000
made it to freedom. There were just around 5,000 recorded cases of runaway slaves, and only
about 1,000 a year made it to safety during the peak of this time. The lives of many slaves were
horrendous during the early America s, so many of them sought refuge in the Underground
Railroad where they dealt with even dirtier, more dangerous conditions. However, this helped
thousands of slaves successfully reach freedom and helped create one of the biggest slave
movements of the 1800s. How it all began. In 1786, George Washington complained one of his
runaway slaves was helped by a society of Quakers, formed for such purposes. Before long, by
1831, the system grew into what is now the Underground Railroad. Many people think the
Underground Railroad had something to do with paths that were once railroad tracks or something,

The State s Electoral System
POLI 201: Electoral Reform in Canada
Kelsey Dechant
UCID 30012085
November 10, 2015
TA: Camilo Torres, T03
The format of a state s electoral system plays a foundational role in the quality of its democracy.
Illiberal democracies, for example, may limit potential opponents of the ruling party; these kinds of
states are generally said to be less democratic than those which encourage political freedom.
Because a nation s electoral structure influences the nature of its democracy, one must take a
critical view on current systems and seek to better them where possible. Though not an extreme
example, the electoral system in Canada can be said to hinder democracy, albeit indirectly, leading
to apathy and discontent amongst the electorate. In a disproportionate system such as Canada s,
citizens voices are not as easily or accurately represented. For this reason, it is of utmost
importance to consider electoral reform so that Canada s system is more proportionate and
conducive to political engagement. Canada s current electoral arrangement is known as a single
member plurality or first past the post system. In this system, the basis of seat distribution is who
has the most votes during an election. For example, a candidate who wins 34 percent of the popular
vote will go on to represent a riding, even if the rest of the votes go to two or more different parties.
Plurality systems increase government stability and effectiveness using a manufactured majority

Music And Censorship In Rock And Roll Music
Censorship has long been an issue in Rock and Roll music. Although our American society
celebrates classic rock that emerged in the 60 s and 70 s, today, artists such as: The Rolling
Stones, The Beatles, The Doors, The Sex Pistols, and Bob Dylan were harshly judged for their
music and image they projected because some members of society feared they were too
suggestive, or just completely inappropriate. These rebellious artists fought against their music
being censored in the best ways for their bands. The Rolling Stones was one of the first bands of
the 60 s to have their song (I Can t Get No) Satisfaction banned from the radio due to the fact that
some could consider it indecent (Rutledge Borger, 2012). The Stones music was enjoyed by
many, but the lyrics had the potential to spark controversy, especially during live performances.
Producers and planners of live performances were more conservative and cautious of keeping
television clean and suitable for all ages, and would go to great lengths to make sure that all was
kept modest. That is exactly what happened on The Ed Sullivan Showon September 11, 1967. The
Rolling Stones were allowed to perform on the show as long as they agreed that they would
change the let s spend the night together lyrics to a more appropriate let s spend some time together
(Richin, 2015). There is footage of the Stones performance on The Ed Sullivan Show floating

Churches Should Not Be Divided
Why Churches Should Not Be So Divided
One of the core values in Christianity is to love one another like Christ loved us, but us as
Christians can t even seem to love each other in our own churches. Let alone other churches.
In a world already divided so greatly, we as Christians should strive to establish more unity and do
away with so much division within our own churches.
Let s face it, Christians don t necessarily have the best rep. There are major news stories of
Christian bakers refusing to bake a cake for a same sex couple. You can watch videos such as this
one, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iIqJYqBrbI4 , where random people are asked their

But most doctrine. People are certainly concerned about how the stigma of not being tied to one
certain set of beliefs affects the church as a whole. I believe that this is a problem within churches
with denominations as well. I currently attend a Baptist Church. I attend Trinity Baptist Church to
be precise. I grew up in the Baptist church and am a born again Christian familiar with the beliefs
and ideology of the Baptist branch of Protestant Christianity. So you may be wondering, why I
would be criticizing the very branch of religion I associate myself with. Or why I criticize any
denomination of Christianity in general. It is not as much that I am against the idea of people
having different perspectives of the same religion, or different ways to tell the same story, if you
will. It is more or less my wish to ease or even put an end to the compartmentalization of ourselves
within our own denominations and churches. A post from Starting Point puts in
Walker 3 into great words, During Jesus ministry, he prayed that his future followers would exhibit
a special kind of unity that would be a testimony to the world. So what happened? Rather than unity,
harmony, and cooperation, Christians are often known for their squabbles and divisions. Even
when they appear to get along, they divide up into hundreds of different groups, churches, and
denominations. For those who are not Christians, it seems

College Students Disadvantages
College students deal with stress, anxiety, and worrying all the time while they are taking classes

hanging out with friends, not leave their dorm room, or will start missing classes. Collegecan burn
students out very easily from trying to fit in with their peers or trying to survive the classes they are

important it is to find a group of friends that make you feel so comfortable around. There are over
thousands of students walking around campus currently and trying to find a group of friends can
be difficult if the student does not come out of their bubble to start talking to other students, that
can lead into making no friends. Meeting new people start in the students first few weeks of
classes due to everyone wanting to make new friends. Once those first few weeks are over,
students start making friend groups. It is hard when the student just focuses on themselves and
academic rather than their social life. Some students have a hard time because they focus so much
on their own academic rather than staying connected with their friends they made the first few
weeks of classes. Not staying connected can cause the student to get burnt out due to feeling like
their friends do not want to hang out. Finding the right group of friends to feel comfortable around
can be difficult but it is easy to do. When feeling burn out of classes, go out, hang out with the
friends made that make you comfortable and let some stress off. Maybe have the friends over to do
homework with. Getting burnt out of college is not enjoyable and can affect the student s life.

perception in the relation to their race. The purpose of the experiment was for the Clarke s to show

anybody who has knowledge of a companies future weather in being good news or bad, the
person can profit from it. This person can often make profits trading stocks by using the inside
information he has to guide his decisions on buying or selling of the stock. The rule that stops
firms from allowing their insiders to trade is rule 10b 5, which is the SEC s, law against insider
trading. Rule 10b 5 comes from 10 b the 1934 act, which is a provision that allows the SEC to
prohibit any manipulative or deceptive device or contrivance. This basically means that the
federal law does not prohibit insider trading, and the insider trading crime was not defined or
expressed in any statues, or rules administered by the SEC. The federal securities law only offers
one cure for insider trading and that is an injunction against future violations. Some firms think
insider trading should be allowed because if you look at it from a property rights perspective,
some firms will be able to reduce the salaries they pay their employees. Although not all firms
believe in this thought for it wouldn t be as compelling for them and it is unlikely to be
advantageous for all firms. The trading for insiders would reduce their

Courage In Excalibur
The movie Excalibur not only explained the story of Arthur and how he came to rule the Britains, it
also showed scenes of courage and chivalry. However, three scenes stuck out more than the others.
The scene when Perceval is knighted to defend the queen, when Mordred and King Arthur fight it
out in the end, and when Bedivere finally throws Excaliburinto the water. The first best scene in
Excalibur is when Guinevere is accused of adultery and Perceval is knighted to fight for her. It is
an act of immense courage for Perceval to step into that position because of his circumstance. He
wasn t a knight until he volunteered to fight, and was knighted only to fight for the queen s honor.
Perceval had no armor and was instructed to fight well without

The Ethics Of Health Care Ethics
What is Ethics? Let me first define the word Ethics. Ethics refers to well founded standards of
right and wrong that prescribe humans ought to do, usually in terms of rights, obligations,
benefits to society, fairness, or specific virtues. Ethics is when one knows what is normal
between what is right or wrong. For a well mannered individual, it is easy to think first before
you act on something. It is for us to know what our rights are and whether it is right, or wrong, to
do or not. We should be responsible of our actions or behavior. In the society or community, we can
see the diversity on ethicsbecause of differences in race, differences of religion, differences in
beliefs and political views. To really understand what ethics is, we should try to be considerate. Let
us just try to follow the golden rule if we can, do unto others, what you want others to do unto you
HealthCare Ethics is a set of moral principles, beliefs and values that guide us in making choices
about medical care. (Vermont Ethics Network, 2011) Take nursing home as one example, the
healthcare team is properly guided with good principles for them to perform their task and
responsibilities. The healthcare team protects the rights, privacy, confidentiality and dignity of its
residents. As a healthcare provider, we must possess the good virtue of honesty, the most important
quality we can bring to our job. As the saying goes, honesty is the best policy. Telling the truth is
acceptable when one

Human Trafficking In America
Slavery is when persons are owned and controlled by other persons, and they have little to no
freedom. In Eastern Europe slavery ended in 1528, but human trafficking has been going on for
thousands of years. A few decrees did not stop the horrible crime called human trafficking. By
definition human trafficking is modern day slavery; people that are victims are imprisoned and
worked until they are physically unable to any longer. Many people turn a blind eye to human
trafficking. Despite the minimal efforts of various governments Eastern European humantrafficking
is on the rise, leading to an increase in the economic exploration of the victims of human trafficking.

the wages that are due to them. Instead, the wages go straight to the procurer, this is basic

The most common jobs for victims to work are in the agricultural, textile, fishing industries, as
well as the sex trade industry. Human trafficking is a 32 billion industry, people that buy and sell
other humans collectively make 32 billion dollars a year. There are around 20 30 million people

people are trafficked into, out, and around Europe; victims from Eastern Europe are found all over

A Pair of Silk Stockings by Kate Chopin is a short story about a lady named Mrs. Sommers who

Does The Baptism Debate
INTRODUCTION
I am doing my term paper on The Baptism Debate. We were all given a choice of what we
wanted to do for our topic and I decided on this debate because I kind of knew a little about this
subject and wanted to see the different views included. There is a slight bias to this subject matter
because of my own personal experiences in my life. Throughout Scripture, Christians have all
agreed that it is God s will that all must be baptized. It has been commanded by Him and not
considered an optional experience for individuals. Learning about the two different viewpoints, that
I will express in this paper, have brought out a great argument about when and how a human being
should be baptized. I am now going to talk about the history of ... Show more content on

My pastor asked them the questions on my behalf and I was washed clean and given the
opportunity to let my life be guided by Christ our savior. I still believe I would have this stance on
the argument because this is what scripture is full of. I don t agree with the thought that The
Believer s Baptism View goes against the church tradition. There is something to be said about
how when a child is born into this world, they bring a natural sin with them. They need to be
cleansed with the Holy Spirit at baptism. I do understand where some people will say that parents
making a decision for you is not right and that there needs to be free will involved when choosing
to follow Christ. The counter argument that caught my eye to back up my view though was how
that gives the impression that Salvation is a matter of God responding to human choice. The infant
baptism rather illustrates how God has full control over our salvation. That is where I truly and
firmly stick by the Infant Baptism View. The next section will follow an outside example of how
this applies in my own

This section contains the mathematical background and stepwise procedure for EnKF algorithm,
KL expansion and ANN based proxy model. Integration of proxy model with EnKF algorithms for
time efficient assisted history matching is also explained in this section. Ensemble Kalman Filter
Algorithm
EnKF is a Monte Carlo data assimilation method, which has gained popularity over recent years
for assisted history matching due to its ability to include available observations sequentially in
time. Aanonsen et al. (2009) reviewed the application of EnKF in reservoir engineering for
estimation of reservoir parameters. EnKF procedure utilizes an ensemble of model states (e.g.
realizations of reservoir properties such as porosity and permeability) to estimate the covariance
matrices used in model updating process. Initial ensemble is generated based on the prior
knowledge of the reservoir derived from various sources as well logs, core and seismic analysis. In
general, simulation techniques such as Sequential Gaussian Simulation (SGS) and Sequential
Indicator Simulation (SIS) are used to generate multiple realizations. These realizations are
consistent with the initial state of the reservoir. In the next step, all the reservoir models in
ensemble are forwarded typically using the numerical reservoir simulation. Mean and covariance of
predicted model states is calculated and used in turn to calculate Kalman gain. Next, in the update
(or analysis) step, each geological

Why Are Humans Attracted To Cats Essay
Why are humans so attracted to cats? Cats like dogs have been domesticated for thousands of
years, adapting to humans and being part of our everyday lives. In many civilizations cats have
even been negated as divine. In ancient Egypt for example they were worshipped like gods and
deemed holy. The position of cats in society varies on the civilization and the time period, but they
nonetheless exist next to humans to some extent. This bond is unique because cats are independent,
and are individualistic creatures. More than dogs, cow s, sheep s, or any other domesticated animal
cats are the closest to being equal independent companions. There is a unique bond between cats
and humans that does not exist between any other animal and our history together is one of
compatriots rather than dominance.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As stated in the article How Cats Became Domesticated , they hypothesized that cats were
accepted by humans because of wild cats hunting rodents in agrarian civilizations as long as 9,000
years ago. This hypothesis carries weight as cats are excellent hunters and are still praised for
killing unwanted rodents even today. I personally know family members that only own cats for
dealing with rodents in their property. These family members are still maintaining the traditional cat
human relationship from our ancestors. What was interesting in that same article was when they
stated, Cats, unlike dogs, are really only semi domesticated... we were surprised to find DNA
evidence of their domestication . This explains the independent nature of cats that allows them to
hunt rodents without the guidance of humans. Cats carry in a wild nature that keeps them self
sustained and unlike other domesticated animals are not completely dominated by their owner.
Being semi domesticated does not mean that cats are completely indifferent to humans; cats still

Construction Equipment Leasing
Are you a small or medium sized construction contractor? Have you been wanting to take on larger
and more lucrative contracts, only to be thwarted by a lack of necessary equipment? It can be
frustrating when you lack the necessary resources to take on a particular contract, but this is
something that can be solved in a variety of ways. Here are some reasons why construction
equipment leasingcan be right for you:
Low initial investment: With some large pieces of equipment, you could be looking at spending
several hundred thousand dollars if you decide to purchase them. If your business is still relatively
small, you may be unable to secure a loan to help you purchase additional equipment. As a result,
cash outflow in that amount could mean the difference between your business doing okay while
growing or needing to lay off people for lack of funds. With construction equipment leasing, the up
front cost will be much lower. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, while it may sound good in theory to offer something like third story or higher gutter
cleaning and repairs, the reality may be that nobody in your area is interested in such a thing. If
you purchased a cherry picker to help you clean and repair those gutters, you d now be stuck with
the cost of the equipment. With construction equipment leasing of that same cherry picker, there is
no obligation to continue the lease once the initial term is up.
Always keep newer equipment: If you purchase all of your equipment, chances are that you ll be
stuck with an aging model for years until you can afford another purchase. On the other hand,
leasing construction equipment allows you to always have the latest model of equipment on hand.
You can set up your lease so that you can exchange your equipment for the latest model every year.
This can give your business a fresh and updated look, potentially attracting even more

Nursing Approaches For Dual Diagnosis Patients
In spite of developments made regarding vocational approaches for dual diagnosis patients such as
supported employment, most individuals are incapable of putting in hours with significant
endeavours. Study by Lysaker et al (2009) showed that CBT permitted patients to engage in
employment. It was evident from the study that patient receiving CBT treatments were able to
hold onto jobs thus promoting their social inclusion. To this end, Sue et al (2009) supports CBT
as a treatment intervention that could be extensively employed and acknowledged by patients,
psychotherapists and healthcare professionals. Adding to the argument, Frew and Spiegler (2012)

Pro Abortion Debate
For decades, there has been a discourse over the topic of abortion. Debates have been centered on
whether the process should be legal or banned. As of 2015, some states and the U.S. Congress are
attempting to ban abortion. Abortion is the process of removing an embryo, thus, ending a
pregnancy. Women should have the option for a legal, safe abortion. Abortion may be a
questionable practice but it should be available for unprepared mothers to rape victims. First, the

Essay on Effects on Consumerism
Consumerism is a description of society s lifestyle in which many people embrace to achieve their
goals by acquiring goods that they clearly do not need (Stearns, 7). The idea that the market is
shaped by the choice of the consumers needs and wants can be defined as a consumer sovereignty
(Goodwin, Nelson, Ackerman, Weisskopf, 2). This belief is based on the assumption that the
consumer knows what it wants. Contrary to this logic, marketers convince us that the consumer
does not know what they want. The consumer has to be told what they want or be persuaded by
advertising items in a matter that demonstrates the reason a product makes their life easier or will

Consumption, we describe as the act of meeting basic needs with material goods and the practice
of consuming as a way of life is consumerism ( Kennedy 173). The ideology that the meaning of
life is found in buying things has really caused majority to spend almost their monthly salary on
goods and services in search of utility. This excessive recreational spending also plays a part in
increase of inflation, also has made more money in circulation. The world is the influenced by
what they see and want to be there, where the low class wants to be like the middle class and the
middle class trying to look like the upper class. Today celebrities and people in upper class have

Thus, many have resulted to high and unnecessary expending in order to imitate a particular social

Reflection About Judaism
Life is a profound experience. Through our short period of existence, we experience life in our
own way. For many, life is a constant search for answers; how did we get here? Is there a G*d?
What happens when we die? These timeless questions remain unanswered, and religion attempts to
answer the phenomena of life and death. Some blindly subscribe to religion; some balance
religious teachings with modern science and their own reasoning, and others believe life is a
binary state that eventually halts. From my circumcision, at eight days old, until eighteen, I
considered myself a Jew. Though I still identify as a Jew, I developed my own, somewhat different,
philosophy of life, focused on what the world means to me.
Judaism in my family traces back hundreds of years. Both my maternal grandparents were
primarily Ashkenazi Jews with some Sephardi lineage. Like many families, however, our
steadfast devotion has faded through the years. My mother, raised as an Orthodox Jew, did not
follow kashrut or observe the Sabbath in our home. I attended a Reform, or Progressive,
synagogue for most of my pre adolescent life. Many Reform Jews do not strictly observe the laws
of the Friday Sabbath, which include traveling only by foot and being separated from electricity
and electronics. As a result, I did not keep or even observe the Sabbath. I attended Sunday School
and Hebrew school until my confirmation, which is a ceremony exclusive to Reform Judaism, at
age fifteen. Connecting with my

Foreign Service Officer For Citizenship And Immigration...
For as long as I can remember, I have always wanted a career that would continually broaden my
horizons and benefit society at large. I am interested in a career as a Foreign Service Officer for
Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) because of the international scope and dynamism
of its long term career path as well as the opportunity to contribute to Canadian society as a
member of the public service. Although these aspects of the career appeal to me, I also
recognize them as the two most challenging aspects of working as a Foreign Service Officer.
First, the prospect of moving from posting to posting, while exciting, would require me to
constantly adapt to new environments and make adjustments in personal affairs. Second, a
career in public service requires me to serve as a non partisan agent and to carry out policies that
I may or may not agree with, which can present demoralizing situations throughout the lifetime
of my career. Despite these challenges, I am confident that I can use the passion and interest
that I possess for the work of a Foreign Service Officer to derive satisfaction in such a career. My
interest in a career as a Foreign Service Officer with CIC is rooted in my desire for work that is
both exciting and beneficial to society at large. There is extensive travelling involved in a Foreign
Service career with CIC, often to places that are radically different from Canada. This would serve

The Human Of Human Visual System
Facial Recognition
Abstract
One of the most impressive skills of the human visual system is our ability to identify an individual
from a brief glance at their face, which will distinguish that certain individual from hundreds of
others one knows. Despite the variations in the appearance of each face as it changes in expression
and hairstyle. The ability to recognize human faces is so important in that the brain appears to have
an area solely devoted to the task. The fusiform gyrus is the area responsible for this. Brain studies
consistently find that this region of the temporal lobe of the brain becomes active when people look
at faces. Skeptics have countered that these studies show only an assumption, not proof, that
activity in this area is essential for face recognition. Thanks to the willingness of an intrepid patient,
a new study provides evidence that neurons in this area help humans recognize faces, and not other
body parts or objects.
The act of recognizing a face is actually quite complex. Faces must be accurately recognized in any
condition, even while moving. But unlike other objects, faces are intimately involved in
communication, and our brains must be able to extract a tremendous amount of subtle detail from
just a glance. So while some of the issues involved in face recognition are the same as for
recognizing any object, other issues are unique to faces.
There is a deep controversy in face recognition

Fast Food Restaurants Are Being Blamed For Obesity Essay
This is an annotated bibliography for research on how fast food restaurants are being blamed for
obesity. I am researching the significance of fast food chains being blamed for obesity rates rising,
when we, in fact should be looking at the individual responsible.
Rice, S., McAllister, E. J., and Dhurandhar, N. V. Fast Food: Friendly? International Journal of
Obesity (2007): pp. 884 86. Academic Search Premier. Web.
In this article published by the International Journal of Obesity, S. Rice, Department of Nutrition
and Food Science, EJ McAllister, Human Nutrition and Food Division, and NV. Dhurandhar,
Department of Infections and Obesity, evaluate the effects of fast food in society. Fast food is
vastly blamed for the rising obesity epidemic, which as discussed in the article is fictional.
Depending on the income of a household, the age group of the consumers, or someone always
on the go, fast food is something people rely on every day as their source of food. This article
discusses how fast food is often blamed for obesity, but in fact has little, to nothing to deal with
obesity rates. I will be using this article in my research as a scholarly source to show how obesity
rates are not to be blamed on fast food.

The Madonna Or Virgin Mary
The Madonna or Virgin Mary was a popular theme for many Middle Age and Renaissance period
artists. I will be writing with a view of exploring the following pieces. The first is Madonna
Enthroned with Angels and Prophets. [Fig 1] This work was by a prominent artist named Cimabue,
or Cenni di Pepo, and was created in Florence, Italy. It is believed to have been done in the Middle
Agesfrom 1280 1290 A.D. and the medium is tempura on wood. At dimensions of 12 7 X 7 4 it
is quite large and is currently on display in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, Italy. As is implied by
its title, the subject matter of this piece is the Virgin Mary and Christ. The second work is The
Madonna of the Pinks [Fig 2] by Raphael. Raphael was also a prominent artist of his time, and
has often been compared to Leonardo and Michelangelo. This work of oil paint on yew, or
fruitwood, was created during the High Renaissance circa 1506 7 A.D. Also created in Florence,
Italy, it is a small work, measuring just 27.9 cm X 22.4cm, currently housed as The National
Gallery in London. The subject matter of this piece is also that of the Virgin Mary and Christ.
Both of these works are excellent examples of why their artists are considered among the greatest
of their respective time periods.
Madonna Enthroned with Angels and Prophets is a Byzantine style and reflects this in its highly
stylized form of depicting the characters. The figure of The Madonna especially holds to this style
in its elongated,

Underground Space And Underground Storage
Storage Recently, underground space is commonly used to accommodate vehicles and bicycles,
for instance in Delft, the city was trying to reduce the amount of parked bicycles on the streets,
therefore an underground bicycle parking facility which can accommodates 5,000 bicycles was
built. Besides parking, underground storage can be used for all kind of goods, chemicals, waste,
hazardous substance, oil and gas, and etc. And underground food storage was most commonly
found in the world, as humans have a long tradition of using the underground space as storage to
keep perishable goods, wine and ice , for example in 200 A.D, Cappadocia s underground space
was used as wine cellars and storage rooms. In comparison to both underground metro and... Show

In China s Chongqing, an air raid shelter was used as an experimental facility named Chaoyang
Underground Granary to examine the efficiency of underground food storage. China s
Chongqing has a subtropical climate long summer with an average day temperature of 35В°C,
thus this experiment was focused on the usefulness of underground space in warm climate
region. In order to achieve a more effective experiment, husked rice was stored in an
underground granary and a nearby surface level granary, both with a variation in temperature and
air tightness. The result was surface granary tend to have more microbes and insects which
caused the quality of rice to deteriorate, and more expenses were to spend on pesticides. In
contrast, underground granary doesn t need any pesticides once its space was vacuumed by an air
pump, as a vacuum space will restrict the growth of microbes and insects. Therefore, no pesticides
were needed for pest control, which result in less pollution for the environment. Table 1 Comparison

Lust In Romeo And Juliet
In one of the most highly renown love tragedies written in history, Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet
explains the highly debated notion of love at first sight through the relationship between the two
star crossed lovers , Romeo and Juliet. Though many can argue that this relationship between the
two is only for lust, it is clearly shown in the play that the family rivaled couple is truly in love.
Through Juliet s decisiveness and maturity, Juliet shows that her relationship with Romeo is not
about lust, but about true love. First, Juliet experiences her first moment of true love when she
meets Romeo at the Capulet Masquerade. In the beginning of the play, Juliet is seen as a young,
inexperienced teenager not ready for love. As she meets

Advantages Of Reciprocating Compressors
1.Introduction A Reciprocating compressor or piston compressor is a positive displacement
compressor that uses pistons driven by a crankshaft to deliver gases at high pressure. All
compressor types have a clearance volume that contains gas at the discharge pressure at the end
of the discharge process. This volume may be small in some designs and significant in others.
Reciprocating compressors may have a large clearance volume, but recover the work done on this
gas by expanding it back to suction pressure in the cylinder. Reciprocating air compressors use
positive displacement, which generates air pressure via two sides that provide either suction or
discharge. Positive displacement is suitable for compressing small amounts of air at high... Show

This will either move it to the second phase of compression or the final one, depending on the
nature of your compressor. Compressing air generates heat that limits the oxygen content of the
air , thus reducing its density. Cooling the air essentially acts as a simple method for allowing
denser and more oxygen rich air to be again used by the engine, which in turn provides more fuel
and improves the power output when the air compressor is working with a combustion engine.
Intercoolers are essential for two reasons. First, they cool the air down to a proper temperature
to designed to remove moisture and water from the air. You will typically see this filter listed as
a moisture trap. After the air is cooled, it s returned to your compressor for additional
compressing. 5.4 Second, Higher Pressure Compression The air will move back into the main
chamber of your air compressor or the second chamber ,depending on its design and will be
further compressed by a high pressure element. The maximum pressure you will achieve typically
ranges from 116 to 145

Designing A Ewas Approach For Modeling A Phe Essay
METHODS We used a EWAS approach for modeling a PHE as a complex network of
interdependent determinants by inferring associations between multiple and diverse factors and
the incidence of microcephaly attributed to ZVI in Brazil municipalities during the first semester
of 2016. Figure 1 summarizes the steps of the modeling process we describe in this section.
Figure 1. Methods Flowchart. After the root steps of data collection, integration and preprocessing
and model development , the third step of model analysis comprehends extraction and comparison
of 4 subnetworks to test three morbidity hypotheses. Subnetworks are identified by letters and
comparisons between networks by lower case roman numerals. To build consistent data, we
comprehensively collected secondary open data from Brazil`s official web sites. Data collection
included domains according to three scales and 18 factors in the WHO conceptual framework of
the social determinants of health (SDH) (18). We included a fourth scale for health results that
included the incidence of ZVI related microcephaly from the open data initiative of the Brazilian
system of public health surveillance (Table 1). By the standard identifier of Brazil municipalities
(IBGE, Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e EstatГstica), we integrated and initial set of more than
700 variables for 5570 municipalities. Preprocessing these continuous, discrete and binary variables
included identifying and replacing missing values according to

The Used Car
In this negotiation, I played the role of the buyer of the car, Mazda MX В– 6 from Francesco, who
played the role of the seller. The task involved negotiating for the right price for the used car.
When I was planning for the negotiation the most important criteria was that the car must certainly
have all those specifications which the 1994 Jeep Cherokee Sport was offering. That is, an air
conditioning, AM/FM stereo, 6 cylinder engine and the mileage should be the same or more than
the Jeep. Also, I had firmly decided to buy the Mazda under all circumstances and not go in for the
jeep, as it would certainly turn out to be a better proposition than the jeep. Moreover, I had

Francesco made the first offer in this negotiation process of $8000, as mentioned earlier. I think
it does matter as to who puts the first offer because the first offer has a direct impact on your
opponent. If your first offer is extremely inflated, the other person thinks on the higher side and
may close the deal at a higher price than what he had thought of initially. However, if your offer
is low, the other person will try to manipulate you in such a way that he may tend to close the
deal at even a lower price that what he had aspired for. Therefore, I would always like my
opponent to make the first offer so that he does not get pre conceived notions about me and is not

Later that day I went home and reread a summary of the play Hamlet. Doing this allowed me to
have a better understanding of the movie. In my opinion, I believe that the movie and the play s
characters are unique. Throughout the movie, the main characters do not realize what was going on
around them. It was enjoyable to see the character s act confused to the scenes of Hamlet. My
overall reaction to the movie was that it was a very well done movie and very enjoyable. I would
defiantly recommend this film to anyone. One of my personal favorite scenes were when scientific
theories were shown. I am a huge fan of science and physics. Whenever
Rosencrantz hinted some scientific theories, it made the film very exciting. An example of this is
when the main character shows the effects of gravity by dropping an apple. This is a reference to
Isaac Newton s theories of gravity and how they started. In a college classroom, it is very
important to acknowledge plot twists and foreshadowing. The importance of this film in a college

The Appeal of the Mystery Genre Essay
Question One:At the beginning of the semester I wrote in my personal information handout that I
felt what made the mystery genre stand apart from all other genres was its ability to keep the
reader/watcher on the edge of their seat wanting more information. That mysteries are
unpredictable, making the reader/watcher stay until the end because they must know the ending. I
still feel this way, but my understanding of this concept has certainly evolved and sharpened. First
and foremost, the concept of keeping the audience on the edge of their seat wanting more is driven
by epistemic sequencing. This concept, described by Talmy, is the idea of who knows what when
and is very crucial to the mystery genre and in keeping the audience... Show more content on

He states in Chapter One, Part Four, for one thing, we know that narrative in all its forms is a
dialectic between what was expected and what came to pass. For there to be a story, something
unforeseen must happen (15). Unforeseen is the key word in this quote by Burner and is crucial
to the mystery genre. Within mystery twists and turns occur, red herrings take the audience
down the wrong path, and the audience plays detective, but for it to be a true mystery,
something unforeseen must occur. This unforeseen occurrence is what keeps the audience on
the edge of their seat and coming back for more. It is common knowledge that the detectives
cannot find the murderer only 20 minutes into the episode or 50 pages into the book and while
the audience certainly enjoys being correct when the killer is revealed, continuously being
correct would ruin the allure of the genre. It is stories such as The Murders in Rue Morgue by
Edgar Allen Poe that keep the readers on their feet with the unforeseen. When first reading Poe s
story, I would have never guessed that an orangutang committed the murder and I am sure many
other readers felt the same way, which draws us into the story. Further, Stockwell s concept of
cognitive deixis also plays an important role in keeping the audience on the edge of their seat.
Their are five types of cognitive

Title Meaning in A Separate Peace
The title of the book, A Separate Peace is completely relevant to the story of the two boys Gene

different realities, a separate peace. This first occurs when Gene manages to push Phineas out of
the tree causing him to shatter one of his legs. Phineas refuses to believe Gene, his best friend
would purposely hurt him. I don t know, I must have just lost my balance. It must have been that. I

then the next one sinks. The one holding on to the trunk sank for a second, up and down like a

truth behind the incident and that his best friend did in fact make him fall off the tree. Phineas is
so overwhelmed after hearing this, he falls down the stairs, which ends up being fatal. Then these
separate sounds collided into the general tumult of his body falling clumsily down the white
marble stairs (Knowles 177). After the death of Phineas, Gene attains ultimate peace and peace of
mind as he gets older and understands Phineas nonviolent nature. Only Phineas never was afraid,

Negative Effects Of Heavy Metal Music
Many Teens and adults don t understand how harmful music can be. It has a very big effect on
us in a good way like calming us down, or the bad way like making us more aggressive by
listening to metal. People these days listen more to music than to anything else. It is a big
problem, for a lot of people because, the songs that today s teens like having a lot of cursing,
violence and thing like that. Most young people have a big influence on music lyrics. Music
like heavy metal and similar styles have a bad effect on the person that is listening to it. Also
calm music and good lyrics, can calm a person down, make him relaxed, and get him a great
feeling for the rest of the day. Most people will say that music is a big part of their live, and when
we live with the music we are listening to it so that we can look like the image that the songis
giving. Whether it s a good image or not.
Music lyrics in heavy metal and styles that are very similar, have a bad influence that will make us
get angry quickly, and lose our temper more often. There is evidence, however, that heavy a music
subculture particularly heavy metal music can signal problems. According to the Journal of the
American Medical Association, Teenage immersion into a rock subculture may be primarily
symptomatic of alienation and hostility toward adult society. The music may be both a portrait of
their alienation and an unflattering reflection of their perception of moral and ethical duplicity of
adult society.

Peter Capaldi Essay On Doctor Who
Peter Capaldi, Doctor Who
After watching the first two episodes of Doctor Who s ninth season, it has become clear Peter
Capaldi is on his way to becoming one for the greatest Doctors, if not the greatest Doctor Who, of
all time. Capaldi s portrayal of The Doctor is truly inspired by the classic, original series (1963
1989), while still being completely modern.

Those of my generation may favor Baker and Pertwee. All true fans inherently agree to accept

The return of a classic Doctor
Fourth Doctor, Tom Baker
There was no doubt Capaldi found inspiration from classic Doctor Who, specifically the first four
incarnations. Over the course of season eight, I was personally reminded of both Jon Pertwee and
Tom Baker s Doctors. However, it looks as though we will truly see him become a classic Doctor
Who in season 9.
Capaldi s Doctor is a bit cold and distant, much like William Hartnell s First Doctor. He needs
Clara Oswald much like the First Doctor needed his granddaughter Susan. This Doctor has been
described as abrasive, patronising, and cantankerous all of which can also be said of the Twelfth
Doctor.
Patrick Troughton s Second Doctor may have the least influence inspiring this new version, but the
element s are there. This Doctor is known for being a calculating schemer and manipulator, who
acted a bit of a fool to get his enemies to underestimate him. We certainly saw some of that in the
opening two episodes of the 9th

  • 2. My Teacher As A Good Teacher When my teacher assigned our new essay, I felt as this one might be a bit of a struggle. I was too busy worrying about my SAT and I kept having second thoughts about what I planned to do. Then, I remembered how terrible my school teachers were and decided why not just write about that. Throughout my school life I ve encountered many teachers who I would consider to be bad teachers. I find it funny how some people only become teachers, so they can get an easy paying job. A bad teacher is someone who assigns work and sits back in their desk, one who assigns the same type of assignment, and one who gives up because he or she can t get the students to calm down. A teacher who just sits in his or her desk is one critical example of a bad teacher. My eight grade math teacher would assign us work, show us one or two examples and sit back in her desk. Often times the warm up would be what the assignment would be over, but it was only the basics. Another one of my teachers was my sixth grade English teacher. This teacher was even worse; all we did in class was sit and sometimes go over simple comprehension skills. On most days he would sit on his desk and stay on his Blackberry playing Tetris, or Bridge Breaker. I m not sure how some teachers manage to keep their job when they behave like this. Still, I was glad I passed my Taks Test that year. I thought this would be the last of my bad teacher s experiences, but it went on all the way to high school. Quitting is another example of ... • 3. Essay on The Everlasting Dark Shadow of Romanticism For many, saying or hearing the word romanticism evokes numerous stereotypical and prejudged definitions and emotions. The biggest reason this probably happens is because of how closely romanticism sounds like romance. The similarity of the sounds and spelling of the two words can lead to some thinking that the two words mean the same thing or are closely related. Although romanticismand romance do share some similarities in their spelling and pronunciation they couldn t be more different. In the Merriam Webster Dictionary romance is defined as, a love story . The Romantic Period was not necessarily a time of true romance and love stories, although love was written about, but was instead a time of extreme emotion expressed in many... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Whether Shelley anticipated that her story of reanimation and death turning to life would be her masterwork is unknown, although it is likely that she never anticipated the kind of response that her little tale would immediately receive and the impact that it would still have today. Frankenstein is one of the greatest examples of Romantic writing. One of the biggest traits of Romanticism that the story possesses is the inclusion of the Byronic hero. Victor Frankenstein s creation is a hideous, murdering, and vengeful being but the reader can t help being fascinated by the monster and wanting to see what he will do next. The way that the monster is written can also make the reader want to root for him in certain parts of the story. The monster is actually an incredibly sympathetic character. Even though the monster kills everyone that Victor loves and he performs numerous acts of evil, the reader can still sympathize with the character and understand his motives. Unlike in most of the film interpretations of Frankenstein and the stereotypical idea of what the monster is, he is textually very intelligent, calculated, and isn t the slow moving speechless mongoloid that pop culture has made him out to be. The monster even sorrowfully gives his own type of self eulogy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Collect specific data on the problem (what has not worked in the past). Set specific goals. Develop a plan to create change. Intervene in ways that interrupts the ineffective solutions. Assess outcome of treatment and terminate. Specific Active Ingredients: a.Developing a cooperative therapeutic alliance with the client. b.Creating a solution versus focusing on the problem. c.Setting measurable changeable goals. d.Focusing on the future through future oriented questions and discussions. e.Scaling the ongoing attainment of the goals to get the client s evaluation of the progress made. f.Focusing the conversation on exceptions to the client s problem. Main interventions: A positive, collegial, solution focused stance the overall attitude of the therapist is positive, respectful, and hopeful. The general assumption is that people are resilient and continuously utilize this to make changes. There is a strong belief that most people have the strength, wisdom, and experience to effect change. Looking for previous solutions the thought is that most people have previously solved many problems, even if for a short time. Looking for exceptions That is, times when the problem could have happened but didn t, that can be used by the client and therapist to co construct solutions. No problem happens all the time. • 5. Bird Life In The Daintree Rainforest Evolution is the process by which a population shows heritable genetic changes over a period of time. Hypothetically, a unique bird adapted to the rainforest and passed on those traits to the next generation. This bird lacks feathers, swims, and uses its extra sharp beak in order to survive in a rainy, humid, and tropical environment with other animals. If the bird lives in the Daintree Rainforest, it would have to adapt to an average of 2013 mm of rain per year, about 120 days of rain each year, and floods due to the heavy rain. With this abundance of water, flora and fauna thrive. Fruit, flowers, insects and spiders, baby opossums, and lizards are available for our featherless bird. Although, it tends to stay away from more vicious ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Negative Effects Of Conscription On Canadian Society Sir Wilfrid Laurier declared I oppose conscription because in it has the seeds of discord and disunion (Newman, 94). Conscription is compulsory military service. It caused hatred, riots and protests that divided Canada severely. It was the cause that tore the delicate balance between the French and English Canadian relationship. The conservative party, who had first introduced conscription, still find it difficult to receive votes from Quebec, even after 50 years. (CBC, 14) Conscription was not justified as it negatively impacted not just Canadian society, it created political problems and caused a severe division between Canada s two linguistic groups. Conscription negatively impacted Canadian society. This bill stripped... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Wartime Elections Act gave both male and female family members of soldiers the right to vote. Borden was positive that these specific citizens would vote for him in the election, because these new voters would support conscription, desperate to give their soldiers reinforcement and relief (Quinlan, 32). Although the act was in Borden s favor in the upcoming election, his effort to rig it caused much bitterness in the political parties (Quinlan, 32). This election tore apart Canada. Party meetings were full of heated arguments and disputes. While the French Canadians were seen as cowards, and the English were viewed as dictators. The Unionists won 153 seats, but only 3 were from Quebec. Wilfrid Laurier s liberals scored 62 seats out of 82 from Quebec (Quinlan, 32). Adding to the list of political problems, Borden had initially promised no overseas conscription. When he retreated from this promise, this made Canadian citizens distrustful of their government. A country cannot be led strongly when its citizens do not trust their country leaders. Conscription caused a severe division between Canada s two major linguistic groups, the English and French Canadians. The French were unwilling to volunteer as they saw it as a British War. Although France was under attack, they felt little loyalty to their mother country. Many believed that Canada had already done its part in the war, arguing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Vertigo Vertigo Hitchcock Defying Genre ...alternatively, a film can revise or reject the conventions associated with its genre Bordwell Based on the French novel D Entre les Morts by Pierre Boileau and Thomas Narcejac, Vertigo is arguably one of Alfred Hitchcock s masterpieces and the strangest, yet most hauntingly beautiful film he had ever made (Adair, 2002). At the time, its far fetched plot drew a mixed response from critics Time magazine called the movie a Hitchcock and bull story but today most agree that it is one of the director s most deeply felt pictures. As the bathroom door opens, he turns to his left, and we only see his left profile (Fig 1.), a mirror image to the first time he set eyes on Madeleine in the restaurant unsure, and this time, full of anticipation. We are reminded of the green motif, by the neon light outside Judy s apartment. As Scottie turns around to fully see the resurrected Madeleine, he slowly stands up and at this point the music starts to pick up, leading us to the point at which he sees his beloved. The camera tracks into a close up of Scottie s face, with the green light reflecting off his eye, he almost looks like he has tears in his eyes (Fig 2.). Cut to Judy/ Madeleine stepping out of the toilet, it is Scottie s POV of Madeleine bathed in ghostly green light. Similar to the scene in the cemetery where Madeleine was shot through a fog filter, which gave her the green glow, Judy/ Madeleine now had green light superimposed around her body, which gave her the appearance of a blurred, ghostly figure (Fig 3.). This reflected Madeleine coming back from the dead, now a ghost, as green is usually used to represent ghost or spirits in film. She then slips out of the blur and into focus, Hitchcock used this to indicate Scottie s come back to reality, coming to his senses as he spots the locket in the next scene, realizing that Judy has been tricking him all along (Truffaut, 1985). ... Therefore, there is a trend in the number of species found in each stream type based on the riparian habitat. As the amount of organic pollution increased, there should have been a decrease in the species richness of the streams. Species richness also has an effect on the processing of leaf material. Less species richness due to organic pollution forces the litter breakdown to be dependent on microbial activity rather than shredders (Masese et al. 2014). In addition, microbial breakdown of leaf litter is accelerated by the presence of nutrients, which is high in agricultural streams (Masese et al. 2014). Therefore, the species richness of the agricultural stream should have been low and leaf processing would be controlled by bacteria. Although the agricultural stream had the highest species richness, the relative frequency of shredders was very low compared to the other functional feeding groups shown in Figure 3. Likewise, due to the organic pollution present in urban streams, it would be expected to have a low species richness and thus any leaf material would be processed by microbes as well. Furthermore, the forest stream should have had the highest species richness, which would in turn impact leaf processing by having the shredders drive leaf litter breakdown rather than microbes. The Family Biotic Index describes the water quality of a stream by averaging the tolerance values of all the individuals that were sampled (Hilsenhoff 1988). Based on the equation, ... • 11. Financial Aspect Of Climate Risk Management Financial Aspect of Climate Risk Management Climate change is a lethal and destructive force. In the recent past major climatic events like floods, tsunamis etc. have led to substantial destruction of wealth. Such events have highlighted the need of mechanisms for risk sharing of the losses and restoring the lost human and infrastructural capital. The climate change agreement declared on December 12, 2015 was one of the highlights of the year. It showcased the resolve of various nations in fighting climate change. It was a welcome change from Copenhagen. Climate Change and its Effects The major target for financial sector is to provide jobs, economic welfare to the thriving population, without damaging environmental balance. It is the role of the financial sector to help in managing climate risk and help society recuperate from it. Any climate risk directly or indirectly affects the financial sector in a huge manner. Whenever a climatic catastrophe occurs, the number of insurance claims rise exponentially. Global Insurance claims have risen from 5.1 billion US dollars annually in the 1970 s to 27 billion US dollars per year in 2014. Figure 1: Losses due to various climate scenarios Source: World Resources Institute Climate variability also affects agricultural sector in a major way. • 13. Underground Railroads And The Underground Railroad Underground railroads were a network of secret routes and safe houses used during the 19th century slaves from African descent that were in the United States, and wanted escape to the free states and Canada. The safe houses located on these routes were run by abolitionists and people that were sympathetic towards slaves. The Underground Railroad reached its height during the 1850s and 1860s. It s difficult to determine how many people actually traveled the routes and made it to freedom, but it is estimated that somewhere around 100,000 slaves journeyed along these paths. It is unfortunate however, that not many people of this 100,000 made it to freedom. There were just around 5,000 recorded cases of runaway slaves, and only about 1,000 a year made it to safety during the peak of this time. The lives of many slaves were horrendous during the early America s, so many of them sought refuge in the Underground Railroad where they dealt with even dirtier, more dangerous conditions. However, this helped thousands of slaves successfully reach freedom and helped create one of the biggest slave movements of the 1800s. How it all began. In 1786, George Washington complained one of his runaway slaves was helped by a society of Quakers, formed for such purposes. Before long, by 1831, the system grew into what is now the Underground Railroad. The State s Electoral System POLI 201: Electoral Reform in Canada Kelsey Dechant UCID 30012085 November 10, 2015 TA: Camilo Torres, T03 The format of a state s electoral system plays a foundational role in the quality of its democracy. Illiberal democracies, for example, may limit potential opponents of the ruling party; these kinds of states are generally said to be less democratic than those which encourage political freedom. Because a nation s electoral structure influences the nature of its democracy, one must take a critical view on current systems and seek to better them where possible. Though not an extreme example, the electoral system in Canada can be said to hinder democracy, albeit indirectly, leading to apathy and discontent amongst the electorate. In a disproportionate system such as Canada s, citizens voices are not as easily or accurately represented. For this reason, it is of utmost importance to consider electoral reform so that Canada s system is more proportionate and conducive to political engagement. Canada s current electoral arrangement is known as a single member plurality or first past the post system. In this system, the basis of seat distribution is who has the most votes during an election. For example, a candidate who wins 34 percent of the popular vote will go on to represent a riding, even if the rest of the votes go to two or more different parties. Plurality systems increase government stability and effectiveness using a manufactured majority ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 16. Music And Censorship In Rock And Roll Music Censorship has long been an issue in Rock and Roll music. Although our American society celebrates classic rock that emerged in the 60 s and 70 s, today, artists such as: The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, The Doors, The Sex Pistols, and Bob Dylan were harshly judged for their music and image they projected because some members of society feared they were too suggestive, or just completely inappropriate. These rebellious artists fought against their music being censored in the best ways for their bands. The Rolling Stones was one of the first bands of the 60 s to have their song (I Can t Get No) Satisfaction banned from the radio due to the fact that some could consider it indecent (Rutledge Borger, 2012). The Stones music was enjoyed by many, but the lyrics had the potential to spark controversy, especially during live performances. Producers and planners of live performances were more conservative and cautious of keeping television clean and suitable for all ages, and would go to great lengths to make sure that all was kept modest. That is exactly what happened on The Ed Sullivan Showon September 11, 1967. The Rolling Stones were allowed to perform on the show as long as they agreed that they would change the let s spend the night together lyrics to a more appropriate let s spend some time together (Richin, 2015). Churches Should Not Be Divided Why Churches Should Not Be So Divided One of the core values in Christianity is to love one another like Christ loved us, but us as Christians can t even seem to love each other in our own churches. It is not as much that I am against the idea of people having different perspectives of the same religion, or different ways to tell the same story, if you will. • 24. The Ethics Of Health Care Ethics What is Ethics? Let me first define the word Ethics. Ethics refers to well founded standards of right and wrong that prescribe humans ought to do, usually in terms of rights, obligations, benefits to society, fairness, or specific virtues. Ethics is when one knows what is normal between what is right or wrong. For a well mannered individual, it is easy to think first before you act on something. It is for us to know what our rights are and whether it is right, or wrong, to do or not. We should be responsible of our actions or behavior. In the society or community, we can see the diversity on ethicsbecause of differences in race, differences of religion, differences in beliefs and political views. To really understand what ethics is, we should try to be considerate. Let us just try to follow the golden rule if we can, do unto others, what you want others to do unto you HealthCare Ethics is a set of moral principles, beliefs and values that guide us in making choices about medical care. (Vermont Ethics Network, 2011) Take nursing home as one example, the healthcare team is properly guided with good principles for them to perform their task and responsibilities. I do understand where some people will say that parents making a decision for you is not right and that there needs to be free will involved when choosing to follow Christ. Methodology This section contains the mathematical background and stepwise procedure for EnKF algorithm, KL expansion and ANN based proxy model. Integration of proxy model with EnKF algorithms for time efficient assisted history matching is also explained in this section. Ensemble Kalman Filter Algorithm EnKF is a Monte Carlo data assimilation method, which has gained popularity over recent years for assisted history matching due to its ability to include available observations sequentially in time. Aanonsen et al. (2009) reviewed the application of EnKF in reservoir engineering for estimation of reservoir parameters. EnKF procedure utilizes an ensemble of model states (e.g. realizations of reservoir properties such as porosity and permeability) to estimate the covariance matrices used in model updating process. Initial ensemble is generated based on the prior knowledge of the reservoir derived from various sources as well logs, core and seismic analysis. In general, simulation techniques such as Sequential Gaussian Simulation (SGS) and Sequential Indicator Simulation (SIS) are used to generate multiple realizations. These realizations are consistent with the initial state of the reservoir. In the next step, all the reservoir models in ensemble are forwarded typically using the numerical reservoir simulation. Mean and covariance of predicted model states is calculated and used in turn to calculate Kalman gain. Next, in the update (or analysis) step, each geological ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The position of cats in society varies on the civilization and the time period, but they nonetheless exist next to humans to some extent. This bond is unique because cats are independent, and are individualistic creatures. • 38. Reflection About Judaism Life is a profound experience. Through our short period of existence, we experience life in our own way. For many, life is a constant search for answers; how did we get here? Is there a G*d? What happens when we die? These timeless questions remain unanswered, and religion attempts to answer the phenomena of life and death. Some blindly subscribe to religion; some balance religious teachings with modern science and their own reasoning, and others believe life is a binary state that eventually halts. From my circumcision, at eight days old, until eighteen, I considered myself a Jew. Though I still identify as a Jew, I developed my own, somewhat different, philosophy of life, focused on what the world means to me. Judaism in my family traces back hundreds of years. Both my maternal grandparents were primarily Ashkenazi Jews with some Sephardi lineage. Like many families, however, our steadfast devotion has faded through the years. My mother, raised as an Orthodox Jew, did not follow kashrut or observe the Sabbath in our home. I attended a Reform, or Progressive, synagogue for most of my pre adolescent life. Many Reform Jews do not strictly observe the laws of the Friday Sabbath, which include traveling only by foot and being separated from electricity and electronics. As a result, I did not keep or even observe the Sabbath. I attended Sunday School and Hebrew school until my confirmation, which is a ceremony exclusive to Reform Judaism, at age fifteen. • 39. Foreign Service Officer For Citizenship And Immigration... For as long as I can remember, I have always wanted a career that would continually broaden my horizons and benefit society at large. I am interested in a career as a Foreign Service Officer for Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) because of the international scope and dynamism of its long term career path as well as the opportunity to contribute to Canadian society as a member of the public service. Although these aspects of the career appeal to me, I also recognize them as the two most challenging aspects of working as a Foreign Service Officer. First, the prospect of moving from posting to posting, while exciting, would require me to constantly adapt to new environments and make adjustments in personal affairs. Second, a career in public service requires me to serve as a non partisan agent and to carry out policies that I may or may not agree with, which can present demoralizing situations throughout the lifetime of my career. Despite these challenges, I am confident that I can use the passion and interest that I possess for the work of a Foreign Service Officer to derive satisfaction in such a career. My interest in a career as a Foreign Service Officer with CIC is rooted in my desire for work that is both exciting and beneficial to society at large. There is extensive travelling involved in a Foreign Service career with CIC, often to places that are radically different from Canada. • 42. The Human Of Human Visual System Facial Recognition Abstract One of the most impressive skills of the human visual system is our ability to identify an individual from a brief glance at their face, which will distinguish that certain individual from hundreds of others one knows. Despite the variations in the appearance of each face as it changes in expression and hairstyle. The ability to recognize human faces is so important in that the brain appears to have an area solely devoted to the task. The fusiform gyrus is the area responsible for this. Brain studies consistently find that this region of the temporal lobe of the brain becomes active when people look at faces. Skeptics have countered that these studies show only an assumption, not proof, that activity in this area is essential for face recognition. Thanks to the willingness of an intrepid patient, a new study provides evidence that neurons in this area help humans recognize faces, and not other body parts or objects. The act of recognizing a face is actually quite complex. Faces must be accurately recognized in any condition, even while moving. But unlike other objects, faces are intimately involved in communication, and our brains must be able to extract a tremendous amount of subtle detail from just a glance. So while some of the issues involved in face recognition are the same as for recognizing any object, other issues are unique to faces. There is a deep controversy in face recognition ... The first is Madonna Enthroned with Angels and Prophets. [Fig 1] This work was by a prominent artist named Cimabue, or Cenni di Pepo, and was created in Florence, Italy. It is believed to have been done in the Middle Agesfrom 1280 1290 A.D. and the medium is tempura on wood. At dimensions of 12 7 X 7 4 it is quite large and is currently on display in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, Italy. As is implied by its title, the subject matter of this piece is the Virgin Mary and Christ. The second work is The Madonna of the Pinks [Fig 2] by Raphael. Raphael was also a prominent artist of his time, and has often been compared to Leonardo and Michelangelo. This work of oil paint on yew, or fruitwood, was created during the High Renaissance circa 1506 7 A.D. Also created in Florence, Italy, it is a small work, measuring just 27.9 cm X 22.4cm, currently housed as The National Gallery in London. The subject matter of this piece is also that of the Virgin Mary and Christ. Both of these works are excellent examples of why their artists are considered among the greatest of their respective time periods. • 47. Advantages Of Reciprocating Compressors 1.Introduction A Reciprocating compressor or piston compressor is a positive displacement compressor that uses pistons driven by a crankshaft to deliver gases at high pressure. All compressor types have a clearance volume that contains gas at the discharge pressure at the end of the discharge process. This volume may be small in some designs and significant in others. Reciprocating compressors may have a large clearance volume, but recover the work done on this gas by expanding it back to suction pressure in the cylinder. Reciprocating air compressors use positive displacement, which generates air pressure via two sides that provide either suction or discharge. Positive displacement is suitable for compressing small amounts of air at high... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This will either move it to the second phase of compression or the final one, depending on the nature of your compressor. Compressing air generates heat that limits the oxygen content of the air , thus reducing its density. Cooling the air essentially acts as a simple method for allowing denser and more oxygen rich air to be again used by the engine, which in turn provides more fuel and improves the power output when the air compressor is working with a combustion engine. Intercoolers are essential for two reasons. First, they cool the air down to a proper temperature to designed to remove moisture and water from the air. You will typically see this filter listed as a moisture trap. After the air is cooled, it s returned to your compressor for additional compressing. 5.4 Second, Higher Pressure Compression The air will move back into the main chamber of your air compressor or the second chamber ,depending on its design and will be further compressed by a high pressure element. The Appeal of the Mystery Genre Essay Question One:At the beginning of the semester I wrote in my personal information handout that I felt what made the mystery genre stand apart from all other genres was its ability to keep the reader/watcher on the edge of their seat wanting more information. That mysteries are unpredictable, making the reader/watcher stay until the end because they must know the ending. I still feel this way, but my understanding of this concept has certainly evolved and sharpened. First and foremost, the concept of keeping the audience on the edge of their seat wanting more is driven by epistemic sequencing. Within mystery twists and turns occur, red herrings take the audience down the wrong path, and the audience plays detective, but for it to be a true mystery, something unforeseen must occur. This unforeseen occurrence is what keeps the audience on the edge of their seat and coming back for more. It is common knowledge that the detectives cannot find the murderer only 20 minutes into the episode or 50 pages into the book and while the audience certainly enjoys being correct when the killer is revealed, continuously being correct would ruin the allure of the genre. It is stories such as The Murders in Rue Morgue by Edgar Allen Poe that keep the readers on their feet with the unforeseen. When first reading Poe s story, I would have never guessed that an orangutang committed the murder and I am sure many other readers felt the same way, which draws us into the story.
