Essay On Health Awareness
Crafting an essay on the subject of health awareness can be both challenging and rewarding. The
difficulty arises not only from the need for comprehensive research but also in presenting
information in a coherent and engaging manner. Health awareness encompasses a wide range of
topics, from promoting healthy lifestyles and disease prevention to addressing mental health
issues and advocating for healthcare accessibility. This diversity requires a nuanced approach to
cover various aspects adequately.
One of the challenges lies in finding the right balance between technical information and
readability. A well-rounded essay on health awareness should be accessible to a broad audience,
including those without a medical background. Achieving this balance involves simplifying
complex concepts without oversimplifying the content.
Furthermore, staying updated on the latest developments in healthcare, epidemiology, and public
health is crucial. This field is dynamic, and new information continuously emerges, demanding
constant research and awareness to maintain the essay's relevance.
Additionally, addressing the socio-cultural aspects of health awareness adds another layer of
complexity. Health behaviors are often influenced by cultural norms, economic factors, and
individual beliefs. It is essential to navigate these intricacies sensitively while fostering an
understanding of the global significance of health awareness.
In conclusion, writing an essay on health awareness requires a blend of research, communication
skills, and a deep understanding of the multifaceted nature of health-related issues. However, the
effort invested in creating an insightful and well-crafted piece can contribute significantly to
raising awareness and promoting positive health outcomes.

Financial Instruments – Other-Than-Temporary

Financial Instruments Other Than Temporary Impairment 1. For the following
investments, determine if OTT should record an other than temporary impairment as
of December 31, 20X1, and if so, for what amount:
Happy New Year amp; Co.
* Since the fair value of investment is less than its cost, the Company should
proceed to step 2 for identifying and accounting for impairment. However, there is
no indication that OTT does not expect the fair value of the security to fully recover
before the expected time of sale. The Company actually does not believe the decline
in price to be permanent. In addition, it does not intend to sell this investment in the

* It should be the entire difference between the investment s cost and its fair value at
the balance sheet date of the reporting period for which the assessment is made. So,
the recorded amount is (100 72) * 50 = $1,400.
(FASB 320 10 35 34)
3. Assume the same facts as in 2 above, but that OTT has not yet determined whether
an impairment exists or the amount of any possible impairment. For March Madness
Incorporated, would OTT still conclude that the investment is other than temporarily
impaired, and would the impairment charge as of December 31, 20X1, be different if
the stock price at issuance of the financial statements (i.e., as of January 31, 20X2)
was $95 and not $75?
* Unless it is clear that the impairment is deemed other than temporary, we cannot
conclude that the investment is other than temporarily impaired. For the second part
of the question, the charge will not be different because it depends on the fair value at
the balance sheet date, not the issuance date.
(FASB 320 10 35 33 and 34)
4. For Tohoku Toys, determine if OTT should record an other than temporary
impairment as of December 31, 20X1.
* OTT does not believe that the restructuring will ultimately be successful. So, an
other than temporary impairment should be considered to have occurred if the
Company intends to sell them or not.

Gatorade Persuasive Speech
Since Gatorade was created in 1987, it has become the official drink sponsored by
American athletics. Most sports leagues, including the NBA, MLB, and NFL, are
sponsored by and promote Gatorade. Although it is highly praised, one must stop
and wonder exactly how effective Gatorade is in doing what it is they re advertised
to do? Does Gatorades popularity come from the billions of dollars of advertising
spent by the company or does it actually quench the thirst of a high performance
athlete?
Gatorade restores electrolytes and quenches your thirst...
Is It In You?
How It Claims to Work:
According to the official Gatorade web site there are four main ways in which
Gatorade helps improve athletic performance.
1.Rapid Fluid Absorption Important during strenuous activity in order to avoid
dehydration
2.Rapid Rehydration Caused by a properly formulated carbohydrate electrolyte
beverage
3.Provides Carbohydrate Energy to Working Muscles Allows us to work better than

Advertisers make it seem that Gatorade restores essential nutrients lost during
strenuous activity, when in fact the amount of sugar and other artificial sweeteners
can often be more harmful than helpful. By breaking down the nutrition facts, one
can see that there are no special ingredients that would turn someone into a super
athlete. While true high performance athletes may receive some benefit from the
drink, the average person simply going to the gym for an hour would be ingesting
more sugars than they need
American Influence On German Films
Before the 1930 s many influential films were silent, except the score in the
background that had slight or little relevance to the movie. As technology kept
improving, sounds were added to movies as a method to help get across themes
and motifs. Dialog could now be heard in movies, instead of having to be read on a
blank background. One of the first and most influence German films to properly
execute the use of sounds was Blue Angel, by Josef Von Sternberg. Blue Angel
was created in 1930, and tells of the story of a respected professor who in an
attempt to catch his student from attending a club called The Blue Angel, ends up
falling in love with a cabaret performer named Lola Lola. The professor resigns from
his job as a teacher, and lives
Effects Of The Vietnam War On American People Essay
The Vietnam War greatly changed America forever. It was the longest war fought
in America s history, lasting from 1955 to 1973.The war had two major effects on
American people. First, the Vietnam War tarnished America s self image by
becoming the first time in history the United States failed to accomplish its stated
war aims, to preserve a separate, independent, noncommunist government. It was
the first war ever broadcast on television. The public was able to see what
happened on the battlefield. Second, one of the chief effects of the war was the
division it caused among the people. Not since the Civil War had America been so
divided. This war would have lasting affects on the United States. To better
understand the horrors of the war, I will narrate the story from the perspective of
my grandfather with a few personal opinions injected in between my grandfather s
thoughts. It was 1961 in, Jacksonville ,Florida when I first enlisted in the marines
at the age of 20. I then served four years and was discharged in 1964. Prior to
enlisting into the Marines I had to prep myself mentally and physically. For six
months I had to whip myself in shape. In the marine corps, you must pass a
physical fitness test every six months. A perfect score of 300 is usually achieved by
doing twenty dead hang pull ups, 100 crunches in twenty seconds and a three mile
run in twenty eight minutes. Now that threw me for loop, but my general told me
you don t have to be perfect to enlist, but to
Essay On High Stakes Testing
The Talk About The Bitter Test Standardized high stakes testing is necessary in today
s school systems and policies within education. The fate of annual standardized
testing is being considered as Congress debates the reauthorization of the Elementary
and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), also known as the No Child Left Behind Act
(Evans, 2015). Testing in its current form may seem detrimental to student learning,
but the only thing worse than standardized testing is not having testing at all (Evans,
2015). Standardized High stakes Testingis necessary because it serves as a platform
for guiding students and teachers, it s a great measurement tool on an individual s
performance, it helps prepare administration and it also provides a level playing field.
First, standardized high stakes testing serves as a platform for guiding students and
teachers. Students and teachers needs high stakes testing because the test allows them
to know what material is important to teach and learn. High Stakes testing helps
inform decisions about the curriculum and instruction (Nichols and ... Show more

Standardized high stakes testing could be dangerous due to multiple corruptions
within the education administrations in the school systems (Nichols and Berliner,
2007, pg.6). First, standardized high stakes testing shows a correlation between
increased drop out rates (Amrein and Berliner, 2002, pg.2). Another warning about
the dangerous side effects of standardized high stakes testing surfaced when a plan a
pay teachers on the basis of their students scores was offered, making student test
scores very high stakes testing. (Roderick and Bryk, 2007, pg.11). Lastly,
standardized high stakes testing encourages teachers to watch the examiners foibles
and to note his idiosyncrasies to prepare for questions that were more likely to
appear on the testing which can lead to failure within the classroom (Wall, 2000,
Examples Of Irony In Canadian Culture
Irony in Canadian Culture When comparing the essay As Canadian as Possible Under
the Circumstances by Linda Hutcheon and the poem I m not the Indian you had in
mind by Thomas King, both authors use figurative language to describe the irony that
lingers in Canadian culture. After analyzing both pieces of writing it is recognized
both authors use stereotypes in their writing to explain ironyin Canadian culture. For
example, in King s poem he states, I ve seen him, I ve seen him ride / Rush of
wind, darkening tide / With wolf and eagle by his side (King lines 2 4). Looking at
Linda Hutcheon s essay more stereotypes are shown when she says, combined
national hero and colourful symbol a policeman in a funny costume? That the
language we speak Canadian is in itself an odd beast (Hutcheon 332). These two
examples of stereotypes elaborate on... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the poem, King says, The one you re disinclined to meet (King line 24). The use of
that understatement helps the reader understand that there is irony in Canadian
culture. King makes the situation seem less important then in actually is because he
wants his readers to understand that it is a big deal elaborating that there is irony in
Canadian culture. Another understatement is used in Linda Hutcheon s essay when
she says she is not an ideologue, or because her content is such a seamless part of her
art, or because she is Canadian (Hutcheon 348). This understandment helps prove
irony in Canadian culture because Hutcheon is not making a big deal about the art
but it is because she is Canadian was a understatement. She is trying to prove that by
using sarcasm that it does matter that she is Canadian. The use of this understatement
makes the writing more exaggerated so that the reader is intrigued in the subject. This
helps the reader understand the point being proven that irony exists in Canadian
Understanding Business Law
Understanding Business Law
Commercial law, also known as business law, is the body of law that applies to the
rights, relations, and conduct of persons and businesses engaged in commerce,
merchandising, trade, and sales. It is often considered to be a branch of civil law
and deals with issues of both private law and public law. Business law is very
important when starting a business. It will help you operate your business without
the hindrances of ignorance. Business law will help you prepare for issues
pertaining to Zoning Laws, Licensing Laws, Tax Laws, Trademark and Patent Laws.
Once you got your business running, you will need to know how to protect your
business from things like lawsuits, creditors, the IRS and other government agencies.

When dealing with Military allotments, Soldiers will go out and purchase lavish
and expensive items such as cars, furniture, computers and gaming systems with
ridiculous interest rates. The soldiers were allowed to walk into businesses and
purchase items with no money down and take it home the same day. With no cap on
how many allotments a Soldier can have, he or she will miscalculate their monthly
spending and at the end of the month have no money left for necessities. The
Soldiers then cancel the allotments in turn failing to fulfill and obligation to pay for
their goods. Once the Soldier stop making payments, companies will then file for an
involuntary allotment to get their money. It is Department of Defense (DoD) policy
that military members pay their just financial obligations in a proper and timely
manner. Creditors who have been awarded a civil judgment against a military
member may seek enforcement of the judgment by applying for an involuntary
allotment from the member s military pay . (Collecting a Debt, 2014) Mrs. George

taking advantage of Soldiers and their families. On 1 June 2015, Defense Secretary
Chuck Hagel changed the policy pertaining to military allotments. The new policy

Hamlet Guilt Quotes In Hamlet
he Search of Guilt before Revenge in Hamlet Guilt is an emotion that one may
have experienced. Guilt is frequently viewed as a virtue, as a high sense of
responsibility and morality. It takes time to determine whether a person is guilty or
not. In the play Hamlet Shakespeare reveals guilt that lies deeply in in characters.
The play takes place in Denmark and describes young prince name Hamletwho is
planning to get revenge. Prince Hamlet wants to kill his uncle King Claudius. He
wants to kill king Claudius because he had murdered the previous king which was his
father an later married his mother, queen Gertrude. Readers may ask for reasons why
did hamlet search for signs of guilt when he was told that Claudius killed his father.

The Ways in Which Narrative Perspectives Vary in The French Lieutenant s Woman
and Hawksmoor
Although there are many different perspectives taken in the two novels that shape the
overall theme of each plot, comparisons can be drawn between them to show that
they share a few fundamental similarities in the way that the authors present their
narrative. By looking at the this presentation, it is possible to extract that the authors
share common ground in the role that they take in the novel, the post modernist way
they seem to perceive their own role as a novelist and their perspectives on the theme
of time in a novel. These factors combine to suggest that the novels, which have very

inward perspective that we are given with Dyer also helps us to see aspects of his
character like the way he, like Charles in The French Lieutenant s Woman, is a rebel
in the society with his fascination with science and black magic, for which would
both have been shunned because the only truth at the time was Christianity. The
purpose of this is to show the past through the eyes of someone who lives in the
past, like a diary that follows their reports on events. It also allows us to separate
the past with Dyer, from the present with Hawksmoor. In the present, Ackroyd is
alive to comment on the modern day detective, Hawksmoor, and to a certain extent
the third person narrative leaves the readers able to make their own minds up

Hawksmoor, which enforces the theme of the detective novel because they have to
solve the crimes too. As a result, we get a more detached view of Hawksmoor s
character but we feel that we can trust it more because there is supposedly no bias,
(although we are still influenced by Ackroyd). Finally, Ackroyd also includes an

Comparison Of Shooting An Elephant And The Reluctant...
George Orwell and Mohsin Hamid in their works Shooting an Elephant and The
Reluctant Fundamentalist, respectively have a presence that is perhaps more
intimate than in any given story. Both write in first person, and both describe events
that somehow mirror their own lives; however, their narrative style differs in certain
ways that are critical to understanding their relationship to the imperialistic powers
they critique.
The most prominent difference between the two works is as simple as format.
Though both are written in first person, Hamid s The Reluctant Fundamentalist is
written as a dramatic monologue from a Pakistani man named Changez, and Shooting
an Elephant features an unnamed English narrator, likely Orwell himself, describing
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Hamid s novel, the protagonist Changez is speaking to an American stranger,
who contributes little to the story beyond suggestions of his feelings as observed
by Changez. This choice, like the one to have Changez narrate the novel, creates
an additional but distinct kind of distance for Hamid. Instead of delivering an
extended soliloquy, Changez is speaking directly to another person, which
suggests two things: first, that Changez must constantly be aware of others
reactions (particularly, an American s reaction) to what he s saying, and second,
that he might be slightly sugarcoating his views as a result. For example, as he
describes the 9/11 attacks in New York, Changez tells the American, I stared as one
and then the other of the twin towers of New York s World Trade Center collapses.
And then I smiled. Yes, despicable as it may sound, my initial reaction was to be
remarkably pleased. The phrase despicable as it may sound implies, to put it simply,
that Changez must be aware of how he sounds he is either reacting to an expression
or body movement from the stranger, or simply anticipating the stranger s reaction to
what he s said. The fact that Changez guesses that the American will find his
response to 9/11 despicable does not necessarily mean that Changez himself finds it
despicable; he is simply acknowledging the ardent,
The Causes And Consequences Of The Cold War
The Cold War In 1945, the United States and Soviet Union were allies, triumphant
in World War II, which ended with total victory for Soviet and American forces
over Adolf Hitler s Nazi empire in Europe. Within a few years, yet, wartime allies
became mortal enemies, locked in a global struggle military, political, economic,
ideological to prevail in a new Cold War. Was it the Soviets, who reneged on their
agreements to allow the people of Eastern Europe to determine their own fates by
imposing totalitarian rule on territories unlucky enough to fall behind the Iron
Curtain? Or was it the Americans, who ignored the Soviets legitimate security
concerns, sought to intimidate the world with the atomic bomb, and pushed to
expand their own international influence and market dominance? The tensions that
would later grow into Cold War became evident as early as 1943, when the Big Three
allied leaders American President Franklin D. Roosevelt, British Prime Minister
Winston Churchill, and Soviet Premier Josef Stalin met in Tehran to coordinate
strategy. Poland, which sits in an unfortunate position on the map, squeezed between
frequent enemies Russia and Germany, became a topic for heated debate. The Poles,
then under German occupation, had not one but two governments in exile one
Communist, one anticommunist hoping to take over the country upon its liberation
from the Nazis. The Big Three disagreed over which Polish faction should b allowed
to take control after the war, with

High School to NBA: Good or Bad?
Mel Plantenga
College Composition P.4/5
March 6, 2013
Some of the greatest stars in the NBA were drafted straight out of high school.
Lebron James, Kobe Bryant, and Dwight Howard are just a few examples. Even
though, as of 2006, the NBA eligibility rule states that a player entering the NBA
draft must be at least nineteen years old and a year removed from high school, it is
still a huge debate in the sports world of whether or not this rule is the right choice.
Before the rule was set in place, NBA commissioner David Stern said, We have the
right to set an age limit in the collective bargaining agreement. I believe we can work
together to come up with something that is legally correct and will ... Show more

If the rule were to be changed to require two years of college, the players would be
much more experienced and would create a stronger group of rookies each year
for the NBA. Imagine a young man, straight out of high school, with dreams of
playing in the NBA. What if he was one of the four players who, between 1975 and
2001, declared for the draft straight out of high school never made it to the NBA
(Should high school players be eligible). What are his options after that? Sure, he
could always go to college, but what if he never applied to one? Another option is
to play in a European league, but how is an eighteen or nineteen year old expected
to live on his own in a whole new country? This is just one downfall to being able
to enter the draft straight out of high school. While many are successful, the young
men who are not may be forced to give up their dream and must make serious life
decisions to move forward. For this reason alone, the rule should stay the same to
allow players to mature before they are able to enter the draft. The year of college
basketball played is monumental in the maturation of young players directly out of
high school. High school basketball is clearly a much different game than what is
played in the NBA; the pace is slower and the plays are far less complex. With this
said, only few players are able to adapt to the fast pace of the NBA straight out of
high school. For the majority of the players unable to do so, their
Who Is Doubling In Jane Eyre
In Jane Eyre, Charlotte BrontГ« illustrates character doubling with Jane Eyre and
Bertha Mason. Jane, orphaned during early childhood, constantly felt neglected,
mistreated, and isolated. Her aunt and cousins treated her as if she was a penniless
outcast, thus causing her to become angry and rebellious. Her feelings mirrored that
of Mr. Rochester s wife, Bertha Mason, whom he decided to lock away in the attic at
Thornfield Hall. He had become disgusted by her violent outbursts and inappropriate
behavior, as she had been diagnosed with insanity. Throughout the novel, it becomes
apparent that Jane and Bertha were extremely different from one another, yet they
often encountered similar situations. Bertha s character represents what would have
happened to Jane if she remained rebellious and became violent. The purpose of the
character doubling with Jane and Bertha is to depict Bertha as an impediment to
Jane becoming Mr. Rochester s mistress and to illustrate how they parallel one
another in temperament and emotions, signifying that Bertha is a representation of
Jane s real desires and her potential to wind up with Bertha s same fate. Jane and
Bertha were not exactly identical, as they differed in... Show more content on

Valerie argues, The heroine s punishment for childish rebellion was confinement in
the Red Room for a few hours: Bertha s confinement lasted years, so it is only fitting
that her escape should be dramatic and, unlike Jane s, on her own terms. Jane had
become hysterical after being confined to the Red Room for punishment. She would
not have been able to withstand the type of punishment that Bertha had undergone for
so many years. At least Jane had known that she would eventually have to come out
of the Red Room; Bertha knew she did not have a chance at permanently escaping
isolation, until she committed
The Language As A Lingua Franca Of The Business World
English is now the dominant or official language in over 60 countries and is
represented in every continent (Crystal, 1997:106). It can therefore be understood
that the English language is a vital means of communication for millions of people
around the world.
English has now become the Lingua Franca of the business world. In the business
world, partners and companies belonging to different nations and cultures conduct
operations in either one of the languages of the involved or in a neutral language,
known as the Lingua Franca. Lingua Franca signifies the common language or the
common language for speakers of different first languages and can also be referred
to as the; bridge, working, vehicular or trade language.
The term linguistic imperialism and linguistic relativism are key in understanding a
language as a Lingua Franca. Linguistic imperialism stands for a dominant nation s
practice of transferring it s cultural, social, political and, even, economic features and
ideologies by transferring its language to other nations and according to Phillipson
(1992), the dominance of English needs to be asserted and maintained with
continuous reconstruction of cultural inequalities between English and other
languages . Phillipson claims that English achieved its dominant position as the
principal world language because it has been actively promoted as an instrument of
foreign policy of the major English speaking states (Phillipson 1992:1). Linguistic

Passive Ball Sorter
1.The design objective is to construct a passive ball sorter in groups of two people
that will sort hollow practice golf balls from golf balls into separate bins.
2.The goal for the passive ball sorter is to sort hollow practice golf balls from golf
balls into separate bins. There is a total of seven balls that need to be sorted
correctly to receive the points in that category. The balls will be released from a
tube at an angle of approximately 30 degrees. The constraints of the passive ball
sorter are the following: no electric motors or gas engine, no electronics of any type,
made from reasonable household recycled materials only, should fit inside a 1ft x 1ft
x 2ft box, and maintain purchases below $5 for supplies.
3.I began my research for information about passive ball sorters on YouTube. I
came across tutorials on how to build such a passive ball sorter made from
recycled materials found around the home. I saw videos where different techniques
such as bounce and roll were demonstrated. One example had the balls bounce off
rubber bands into separate bins. The other example had the balls roll down
cardboard paths which would separate the balls into separate bins. These two ideas

How Is Siddhartha Successful
Great achievement is always correlated with fame and riches, but is that all? What
about happiness, knowledge, and family? In the book Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse,
the most successful characters are Siddhartha and Vasudeva. Based on their pursuit of
knowledge, evaluating themselves and their psychological happiness, they have both
become the characters that have lead a successful life. Leading a successful life is
no easy task, they are faced with many obstacles.
Initially, Siddhartha would ve been the successful character of the two, but thinking

How Is Clarice Starling Selfish
Many words can describe Clarice Starling, but not selfish. She has many
opportunities to put herself ahead of everyone in her life, but not once does she
take them. She risks her progress in school, her own safety, and her beliefs to save
women she does not know or seem to care for in general. As our protagonist, we
learn about her past which shows she has always been the type of person to put
others ahead of herself. Clarice shows she is selfless and that her own interests are
not anywhere near her top priority through many of her actions. Clarice has been
self sacrificing from a young age. When discussing her childhood with Dr. Lecter,
he asks her why she ran away with a horse. She gave a simple answer: They were
going to kill her (Harris 210). She knew the only way to save her horse was to run
away, even if that meant being moved away from all the family she had left and
being put in an orphanage. Not once did she think about herself, all she cared about

Kevorkian Assisted Suicide Case Study
The Suicide Doctor
Dying is not a crime stated Jack Kevorkian. Dr. Jack Kevorkian, also known as
Murad Kevorkian or Dr. Death, had strong opinions on euthanasia. Kevorkian was,
simply put, obsessed with death. His eccentric passion made him the most famous
activist for physician assisted suicide. Kevorkian committed his life to aiding those
who suffered from acute medical conditions. Kevorkian made statements under oath
and to the press that he considered it his duty to assist persons in their death. He also
indicated under oath that because he thought laws to the contrary were archaic and
unjust, he would persist in civil disobedience, even under threat of criminal
punishment. (Wikipedia.org). Laws were unclear on the subject of assisted suicide so,

Environmental Sustainability At Three Wine Making...
Introduction
This report examines environmental sustainability at three wine making
organisations. This is a qualitative research to explore how often the organisations
provide concern related with environmental sustainability issues of a wine production.
Interviews have used to collect information about environmental issues and activities
to deal with the problems in the three companies. The interviews have produced
amounts of contextual data that should be analysed to get key information related
with the aim of research. NVivo10 is used to analyse the information about what

Character Analysis Of John Mcclane In Die Hard
The movie, Die Hard, directed by John McTiernan has a lot more to it than what
meets the eye. The full extent of the movie can only be appreciated by digging
deeper to reveal the importance of the character, John McClane. While John McClane
is the main character and protagonist in the film, the true importance of his role can
only be identified by looking at his character s development. Throughout the course of
the film, Die Hard, the character John McClane goes through character developments.
In the beginning of the movie, Die Hard, the audience is introduced to the main
character, John McClane. Upon introduction, it is revealed that McClane is a New
York City cop of eleven years. He has also been living alone in New York City for the
past six months while his wife, Holly, and their two children have been living in
Los Angeles. McClane flew to Los Angeles to visit his family for Christmas.
During this time, it is revealed that he is rude, does not like to fly, and a non family
oriented person. He does not seem to care that he has been living away from his wife
for six months, I m a New York cop. I got a six month backlog on New York
scumbags I m still trying to put behind bars. I can t just pick up and go that easy.
Once the terrorist attack begins, the audience is introduced to a very vulnerable
John McClane who is stuck in a high rise building at a Christmas party. This
vulnerable McClane is barefoot and out of his element. He is not prepared for what

Inside Out Theme
It s not hard to get stuck in a rut of either dwelling on sad memories or pushing
aside sadness in order to try and experience only joy. While the latter might seem
like a preferable way of living, as explored in the 2015 Pixar movie Inside Out, trying
to push aside a negative emotion in favor of a happy one can lead to chaos. While it
might seem easier to only experience positive emotions, especially when dealing
with grief, trying to do so creates an overload of negative emotion, thus creating an
atmosphere where negative emotions are harder to deal with. Emotions can be seen
as members of a team, while grief is a team sport that they are playing, and they all
must take an equal role in order for the grieving process to happen.
One of the biggest themes seen throughout Inside Out was that while it might be nice
in the moment, suppressing emotions, particularly negative emotions, can have
disastrous consequences. While in the movie Joy was clearly trying to just help and
keep Riley happy, she neglected to understand that sadness is not inherently a bad
thing, unless it goes suppressed. Emotions, no matter how small, will ... Show more

Without negative emotions, it would be impossible to experience grief. While at a
glance not experiencing grief might seem like a nicer alternative, it s the collection
of life experiences grief included that help shape a person and create unique
personalities. If all that was felt was one emotion there would be no game to play
as there would be no variation. Things would go on, but nothing would be truly and
fully experienced. While the end goal of a game might be to win, a team plays for
more than that. They play for the experience, and the exposure to new things. While
that might be something scary, it s something that gives a higher perspective to life.
A lost game is not the end of the world, but a repressed emotion can cause upheavals
that lead to more losses than

Before the patients leave the clinic, the primary care nurse will give them a simple
instruction such as doing the blood work, EKG and chest x ray prior to pre
operative appointments. This is the end of primary care responsibility for the pre
operative process of patients undergoing surgical procedures. The accountability of
making sure the patient is ready for the surgery is then handed over to the pre
operative management nurses. Cancellation of operations in hospitals is a significant
problem with far reaching consequences (Kumar Gandhi, 2012). One of the factors
contributing to this cancelation is the pre operative process itself.
VASNHS Surgical Specialty Outpatient department has a designated pre operative

The film version excluded many small episodes from the novel, among them episodes
showing unfair business practices. The complaint about the unfair practices of used
car salesmen; the argument with the camp owner about overcharging; the depiction
of the company store credit racket, the dishonest scales on the fruit ranch; and even

My Table Conflict
The struggle between staying within society s expectations and the desire to make a
commitment to one s art can be daunting. This dilemma has been questioned for ages.
Sometimes society even questions someone who doesn t quite fit into a norm they
believe exists. These conflict or struggle is addressed in Jane Campions film, An
Angel at My Table. The film is based on a trilogy of autobiographies by Australian
author, Janet Frame. Adapted originally for a three part mini series, the film chronicles
Janet s life from childhood to young adulthood. Throughout the film its director

Janet throughout the film is notably placed in windows. In Mark Cousins book
The Story of Film he mentions Campion s way of making Frame look startled in

lenses to exaggerate spaces in the film (Cousins, 708). Her mother frames her face
in the first train station scene in order to protect her from the scenes of mental
illness out her window. Framed by the window Janet is still contained (Gillet). She
is looking outside for what awaits. Her containment within that window can also be
viewed as her containment in her mind as far as the community sees it. A positive
outlook is asserted in the scenes where Janet is in Spain. In this shots she is sitting
in the window while it is wrapped around her. She smiles, alone in her freedom to be
who she without restrictions from outer infringements. Finally, the closing scene, the
author is home and content to be within that window. Sue Gillet concurs; She speaks
the words she has found to write, comforting words (Gillet, 1). Janet Frame is no

African American Ebonics Research Paper
African American Vernacular English (AAVE), or more commonly known as
Ebonics, is derived from the words ebony, meaning black, and phonics, meaning
the science of sounds. In essence, Ebonics is the science of black speech and
language (Baugh, 2000, p. 2). According to early linguistic scholars, as told by
John Baugh (2000), Ebonics is, in simplicity, a mixture of African and European
languages that formed with African slaves (p. 3). The term Ebonics was coined in
1973 by a group of African Americans scholars who felt black English was a
discriminatory name and contributed to the low regard of the language (Baugh, 2000,
p. 2). However, Baugh (2000) states, just changing the name to Ebonics, or more

Much like many immigrants are ridiculed for speaking broken English. John
Baugh (2000) tells of a story from his childhood where he would mock students in
his class who did not speak English as a first language. He would repeat what these
students said with a mocking tone. As he grew older he began to realize that the
way he teased many fellow students because of their broken English, was similar to
the way he, and many of his fellow African Americancommunity members, were
teased (p. 7 8). Baugh (2000) goes on to say that the mocking and false sense of
superiority he felt over the students learning English as a Second language was the
same feeling many feel about those who speak Ebonics (p. 10). The reputation of
Ebonics being a lower class dialect of Standard English, especially within the
academic world, has created an academic disadvantage for many African American
students (Baugh, 2000, p. 6). For these students, who are native AAVE speakers,
there is no extra ESL or bilingual help to strengthen their Standard English, because
Ebonics is not considered a language, but rather a dialect (Baugh, 2000, p. 3). This
causes many African American students to never speak Standard English proficiently,
and in turn do not read or write at grade

The Importance Of The First Opium War In China
When India brought opium to China, India was put into a whole lot of trouble. Since
opium is very addictive, it was hard to stop using this product just the same as using
marijuana or tobacco. The Chinese Emperor was furious with the British for getting a
majority of the Chinese people hooked onto opium, so this resulted in the Opium
Wars. These wars were fought against Britain and China, and became a big problem
for the Chinese. The trade of opium was just as big as the tea trade the estimated
amount of addicts was about 10 million. Foreign merchants were confronted and
forced to surrender because of these sales, but China could not keep the British out.

This peace treaty was signed years after the first war took place. It stated that
China had to give away the island of Hong Kong. Now, keep in mind, the Chinese

The Pros And Cons Of The Death Penalty
A clear majority of voters (61%) would choose a punishment other than the death
penalty for murder, including life with no possibility of parole... (DPIC, 2017).
More than half of the population in the United States is classified as being
religious. Religion is a delicate topic because of how people feel towards it,
presenting a very loyal and intense belief, no matter what religion. Whether the death
penalty be abolished or supported, if religion taken into consideration; there is a
strong belief that though it may be the capital crime, death penalty should not be an
option. There are five forms of death penalty in the in United States, in most countries
lethal injection is the primary method, as for the second options include electrocution,
lethal gas, firing squad, and only in Washington; hanging. Death penalty is a
commonly asked question of whether it is good or bad, considering three significant
points being that millions are spent; discrimination and a gamble; misconduct,
perjury and false accusations are all matters to believe that the death penalty is
ludicrous. One of the biggest problems as a result of the death penalty is that
millions are being spent. The current system in California s expense on the procedure

Origin of Mass of Subatomic Particles Essay
This past October of 2013, François Englert and Peter W. Higgs were jointly

a mechanism that contributes to our understanding of the origin of mass of
subatomic particles, and which recently was confirmed through the discovery of the
predicted fundamental particle, by the ATLAS and CMS experiments at CERN s
Large Hadron Collider . Both Englert and Higgs proposed the theory of how
particles acquire mass. It was 1964 when both men proposed this theory

These forces work over different ranges and have different strengths. That is to say,
Gravity is the weakest; the electromagnetic force has infinite range but is much
stronger than gravity. Three of the fundamental forces result from the exchange of
force carrier particles; these belong to a group of particles called bosons. Particles of
matter transfer discrete amounts of energy by exchanging bosons with each other
(CERN). Each fundamental force has its own corresponding boson the strong force is
carried by the gluon, the electromagnetic force is carried by the photon, and the W
and Z bosons coincide with the weak force (CERN). That is to say, The Standard
Model includes the electromagnetic, strong and weak forces and all their carrier
particles. This new particle was somewhat consistent with the Higgs boson, but it
will take more research to actually determine if it is the same Higgs boson
predicted by the original Standard Model. Being that protons are filled with
subatomic particles like quarks, antiquarks, and gluons they rarely pass or collide
with each other. That is to say, at a mass of about 125 GeV, the Higgs boson particle
turned out to be approximately one hundred times heavier than a proton. The Higgs
boson particle showed that particles due have mass. This played a unique role in the

Discrimination Against Asian Immigrants Essays
During the late 1800s, waves of Asian immigrants from other countries arrived at the
United States of America. These countries include China, Japan, Korea, Philippines,
and India. They believed that coming to the United States would enable them to
achieve the America Dream , but various laws and discrimination prevented them
from achieving the dream. In response to these laws and discrimination, Asian
immigrant groups asserted a sense of agency to protect themselves from oncoming
discrimination and prejudice. Agency is defined as Asian Immigrants/Americans

In addition to work hours, on the fields, the foremen patrolled while cracking and
snapping his whip. The foremen would crack his whip near laborers to increase
work productivity (Takaki, 135). In addition to unfair working conditions, a racial
hierarchy was also developed in the plantations, with the white and foremen at the
top. A good example of the hierarchy is suburban housing (Price). The owner and
lunas or foremen would live at the top of the hill, the Japanese in wooden houses,
Filipinos in run down houses, and the Chinese in barracks (Price). This hierarchy
served as system to prevent unions and strikes from forming. To prevent solidarity
and unification of the workers, the plantation owners developed a mixed wage
system and a diverse work force (Price). A mixed wage and a diverse work force
served as a barrier from forming unions and going on strike. Also, owners also
encouraged or promoted different groups to insult or put down different groups in
order to increase worker productivity and widen the gap between each group
(Takaki, 25). This system is similar to the checks and balances system in the U.S
government. For example, if one group gets too powerful, i.e. the Japanese, Filipinos
would be brought in to counter the Japanese. The different groups serve to check
each other s power. With this system in place, the Asian immigrant groups were not
easily able to assert their sense of agency. Despite the precautions the plantation
The Hopelessness Theory of Depression
In my literary research review, I will look at articles presenting research on the
effectiveness of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy on those who are suffering from
depression. The articles will be discussing Cognitive Behavioral Therapies
effectiveness on those of different ages and genders. The literature will research and
review quantitative and qualitative studies and what their outcomes revealed.
Research on the effectiveness of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for those who
are suffering from depression shows that in the short term, the effectiveness is similar
in results to medical interventions. However, in treating depression for a long time,
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is shown to be successful. The additional information

In a follow up study conducted twelve months post treatment showed that relapse
rates were lower among patients who received Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (39%)
versus those who received antidepressant medication (65%) . (Hollon, Shelton,
Loosen, 1991)
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is also an excellent therapy for the elderly; studies
have shown improvement in emotional functioning with its use. Cognitive Behavioral
Therapy studies show that using it for treatment is a good way to address several
complications in the elderly, which not only includes depression, but also helps with
issues such as anxiety, substance and alcohol abuse and problems with their physical
bodies, mobility, and other medical problems. (Satre, Knight, David, 2006)
Highlighting the empirical studies of the patient s thoughts, evaluations,
interpretations and expectations separated Cognitive Behavioral Therapy from other
forms of psychotherapy. The outcome of several studies yield comparable results in
elderly people who receive Cognitive Behavioral Therapy when compared to results
stated from the studies of the under 65 year old age group. The conclusion of these
studies is that both young and old can benefit from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Case Study Of FRHI Hotel Management
FRHI Hotels Resorts is a hotel management company that was found in January 2006.
That year Kingdom Holdings and Colony Capital entered into a joint venture.
Through that cooperation they obtained Fairmont Hotels and Resorts and combined
Fairmont s business with Colony Capital owned Raffles Hotels International. The
FRHI parent company controls three brands of hotels, Fairmont, Raffles and
SwissГґtel with more than 105 hotels and resorts in 33 countries all around the
world. The main office is located in Toronto, Canada.
 While staying on
luxurious and upper upscale level, each leading brand promotes its own recognizable
personality. Raffles represents sophisticated luxury, personal and attentive service a
and residential charm, along with... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By using this strategy, they notice who has provided customer with outstanding
service, choose winner in separate categories and reward. This kind of strategy is
quite important in hotel business since they (hotel and employees) are stimulating
each other. This program encourages employees to find better way to communicate
with company and college effectively. Most of all, since it is a comprehensive
method, it can even build their social connection further and further if they
understand and communicate with each other in the right way. In addition, Fairmont
hotels also give exclusive deals to their employees, family members and friends. As
employees who have moved to another property of the hotel chain notice and
compare common customer s needs, they realize how their customer should be
treated and what is the most important factor to sustain their service
Failures Of The Articles Of Confederation
In 1776, the Declaration of Independence, drafted by Thomas Jefferson, was
formally adopted. The American Revolution had already been going on with the
battles of Lexington and Concord over a year prior, but the first government of the
United States is the Articles of Confederation, a constitution based on Republican
ideas and democracy. The Continental Congress approved the Articles of
Confederation in 1777. It was adopted, written by John Dickinson, but there was a
delay in ratifying it by the states. States like Virginia and Massachusetts had claimed
a bunch of land stretching from the East Coast all the way to the Pacific Ocean as
part of their colonial charters. States like Maryland and Pennsylvania, who did not
have these land claims, did not want to ratify this new national government until the
land is relinquished. It was not until in 1781 when the states officially ratified the
Articles of Confederation. From 1781 to 1789, the Articles of Confederation failed
and had created problems in political, economic, and foreign policies, making this
new national government an ineffective government. The Articles of Confederation

Lung Capacity And Breath Holding Time
Abstract: This study was conducted to test whether or not lung capacity and breath
holding time are positively correlated. After performing a simple study to test these
two factors, it was found that they are in fact not correlated at all. Both lung capacity
and breath holding time have many different influencing factors that make them
uncorrelated to each other.
I.Introduction
To begin to understand lung capacity and breath holding, one must fully
comprehend the anatomy and physiology of the two systems involved in
respiration. While all cells in the body receive and use oxygen, it is the
cardiovascular and respiratory systems that collect oxygen, transport it to cells, and
remove harmful carbon dioxide from the body. When we inhale, oxygen enters the
body through the mouth or the nasal cavity and then travels down the pharynx
(throat) and through the larynx (voice box). The oxygen then enters the trachea
(windpipe), a long tube that carries air to the lungs. The trachea branches out into
two sections before arriving at the lungs, one tube per each lung. These two tubes
are known as the bronchi. The bronchi are surrounded with small tubes of smooth
muscle called bronchioles. These bronchioles can either constrict or dilate around
the bronchi to allow more or less air to flow into the lungs. Finally, the bronchioles
attach to thin sacs of air called alveoli. This is where gas exchange occurs. The
cardiovascular system also plays a big role in respiration as it is the
X-Ray Powder Diffraction Patterns
X ray powder diffraction patterns of good quality were obtained for the samples
using CuKО± radiation of wavelength 1.5406A0 at room temperature. The obtained
X ray diffraction patterns confirmed the formation of a single phase cubic spinel
structure for the ferrite samples with a crystallite size ranging from 25 34nm as
reported earlier [16]. The X ray diffractionpatterns were fitted using a Rietveld
refinement procedure as shown in Fig 2 [17,18]. The fitted patterns were observed
for eight peaks indexed by miller indices (220), (311), (222), (400), (422), (511)
and (440), evident from the normal XRD patterns as reported earlier [16]. From
the Fig 2 it is observed that sharpness in the peak is increased with an observed
decrease in the width of the peak, which is the indication of the increase in particle
size of the ferrite with the increase in Indium content. From the Fig 2 it is evident
that observed patterns were exactly coinciding with the calculated values and the
difference is very negligible. In comparison with the normal XRD patterns Rietveld
patterns have shown some extra peaks of (331), (531), (422), (620), (533) and (622)
which correspond to the second order impurity phase. The intensities of the impurity
peaks reflect that the percentage of the impurity is negligible. From the Rietveld
refinement patterns of the samples it is clear that the ferrites belong to the space
group Fd3m with lattice parameter values ranging from 8.3106A0 to 8.3648A0. The
values are in

Essay On Health Awareness. Health care essay

  • 1. Essay On Health Awareness Crafting an essay on the subject of health awareness can be both challenging and rewarding. The difficulty arises not only from the need for comprehensive research but also in presenting information in a coherent and engaging manner. Health awareness encompasses a wide range of topics, from promoting healthy lifestyles and disease prevention to addressing mental health issues and advocating for healthcare accessibility. This diversity requires a nuanced approach to cover various aspects adequately. One of the challenges lies in finding the right balance between technical information and readability. A well-rounded essay on health awareness should be accessible to a broad audience, including those without a medical background. Achieving this balance involves simplifying complex concepts without oversimplifying the content. Furthermore, staying updated on the latest developments in healthcare, epidemiology, and public health is crucial. This field is dynamic, and new information continuously emerges, demanding constant research and awareness to maintain the essay's relevance. Additionally, addressing the socio-cultural aspects of health awareness adds another layer of complexity. Health behaviors are often influenced by cultural norms, economic factors, and individual beliefs. It is essential to navigate these intricacies sensitively while fostering an understanding of the global significance of health awareness. In conclusion, writing an essay on health awareness requires a blend of research, communication skills, and a deep understanding of the multifaceted nature of health-related issues. However, the effort invested in creating an insightful and well-crafted piece can contribute significantly to raising awareness and promoting positive health outcomes. For the following investments, determine if OTT should record an other than temporary impairment as of December 31, 20X1, and if so, for what amount: Happy New Year amp; Co. * Since the fair value of investment is less than its cost, the Company should proceed to step 2 for identifying and accounting for impairment. So, the recorded amount is (100 72) * 50 = $1,400. (FASB 320 10 35 34) 3. Assume the same facts as in 2 above, but that OTT has not yet determined whether an impairment exists or the amount of any possible impairment. For March Madness Incorporated, would OTT still conclude that the investment is other than temporarily impaired, and would the impairment charge as of December 31, 20X1, be different if the stock price at issuance of the financial statements (i.e., as of January 31, 20X2) was $95 and not $75? * Unless it is clear that the impairment is deemed other than temporary, we cannot conclude that the investment is other than temporarily impaired. For the second part of the question, the charge will not be different because it depends on the fair value at the balance sheet date, not the issuance date. (FASB 320 10 35 33 and 34) 4. Most sports leagues, including the NBA, MLB, and NFL, are sponsored by and promote Gatorade. Although it is highly praised, one must stop and wonder exactly how effective Gatorade is in doing what it is they re advertised to do? As technology kept improving, sounds were added to movies as a method to help get across themes and motifs. Dialog could now be heard in movies, instead of having to be read on a blank background. One of the first and most influence German films to properly execute the use of sounds was Blue Angel, by Josef Von Sternberg. Blue Angel was created in 1930, and tells of the story of a respected professor who in an attempt to catch his student from attending a club called The Blue Angel, ends up falling in love with a cabaret performer named Lola Lola. The professor resigns from his job as a teacher, and lives
  • 6. Effects Of The Vietnam War On American People Essay The Vietnam War greatly changed America forever. It was the longest war fought in America s history, lasting from 1955 to 1973.The war had two major effects on American people. First, the Vietnam War tarnished America s self image by becoming the first time in history the United States failed to accomplish its stated war aims, to preserve a separate, independent, noncommunist government. It was the first war ever broadcast on television. The public was able to see what happened on the battlefield. Second, one of the chief effects of the war was the division it caused among the people. Not since the Civil War had America been so divided. This war would have lasting affects on the United States. To better understand the horrors of the war, I will narrate the story from the perspective of my grandfather with a few personal opinions injected in between my grandfather s thoughts. It was 1961 in, Jacksonville ,Florida when I first enlisted in the marines at the age of 20. I then served four years and was discharged in 1964. Prior to enlisting into the Marines I had to prep myself mentally and physically. For six months I had to whip myself in shape. In the marine corps, you must pass a physical fitness test every six months. A perfect score of 300 is usually achieved by doing twenty dead hang pull ups, 100 crunches in twenty seconds and a three mile run in twenty eight minutes. Now that threw me for loop, but my general told me you don t have to be perfect to enlist, but to
  • 7. Essay On High Stakes Testing The Talk About The Bitter Test Standardized high stakes testing is necessary in today s school systems and policies within education. The fate of annual standardized testing is being considered as Congress debates the reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), also known as the No Child Left Behind Act (Evans, 2015). Testing in its current form may seem detrimental to student learning, but the only thing worse than standardized testing is not having testing at all (Evans, 2015). Standardized High stakes Testingis necessary because it serves as a platform for guiding students and teachers, it s a great measurement tool on an individual s performance, it helps prepare administration and it also provides a level playing field. First, standardized high stakes testing serves as a platform for guiding students and teachers. First, standardized high stakes testing shows a correlation between increased drop out rates (Amrein and Berliner, 2002, pg.2). Another warning about the dangerous side effects of standardized high stakes testing surfaced when a plan a pay teachers on the basis of their students scores was offered, making student test scores very high stakes testing. (Roderick and Bryk, 2007, pg.11). Lastly, standardized high stakes testing encourages teachers to watch the examiners foibles and to note his idiosyncrasies to prepare for questions that were more likely to appear on the testing which can lead to failure within the classroom (Wall, 2000,
  • 8. Examples Of Irony In Canadian Culture Irony in Canadian Culture When comparing the essay As Canadian as Possible Under the Circumstances by Linda Hutcheon and the poem I m not the Indian you had in mind by Thomas King, both authors use figurative language to describe the irony that lingers in Canadian culture. After analyzing both pieces of writing it is recognized both authors use stereotypes in their writing to explain ironyin Canadian culture. For example, in King s poem he states, I ve seen him, I ve seen him ride / Rush of wind, darkening tide / With wolf and eagle by his side (King lines 2 4). Looking at Linda Hutcheon s essay more stereotypes are shown when she says, combined national hero and colourful symbol a policeman in a funny costume? In the poem, King says, The one you re disinclined to meet (King line 24). The use of that understatement helps the reader understand that there is irony in Canadian culture. King makes the situation seem less important then in actually is because he wants his readers to understand that it is a big deal elaborating that there is irony in Canadian culture. Another understatement is used in Linda Hutcheon s essay when she says she is not an ideologue, or because her content is such a seamless part of her art, or because she is Canadian (Hutcheon 348). This understandment helps prove irony in Canadian culture because Hutcheon is not making a big deal about the art but it is because she is Canadian was a understatement. She is trying to prove that by using sarcasm that it does matter that she is Canadian. The use of this understatement makes the writing more exaggerated so that the reader is intrigued in the subject. This helps the reader understand the point being proven that irony exists in Canadian

The Ways in Which Narrative Perspectives Vary in The French Lieutenant s Woman and Hawksmoor Although there are many different perspectives taken in the two novels that shape the overall theme of each plot, comparisons can be drawn between them to show that they share a few fundamental similarities in the way that the authors present their narrative. By looking at the this presentation, it is possible to extract that the authors share common ground in the role that they take in the novel, the post modernist way they seem to perceive their own role as a novelist and their perspectives on the theme of time in a novel. The inward perspective that we are given with Dyer also helps us to see aspects of his character like the way he, like Charles in The French Lieutenant s Woman, is a rebel in the society with his fascination with science and black magic, for which would both have been shunned because the only truth at the time was Christianity. The purpose of this is to show the past through the eyes of someone who lives in the past, like a diary that follows their reports on events. It also allows us to separate the past with Dyer, from the present with Hawksmoor. In the present, Ackroyd is alive to comment on the modern day detective, Hawksmoor, and to a certain extent the third person narrative leaves the readers able to make their own minds up because there is no bias. It also reminds them that they are living alongside Hawksmoor, which enforces the theme of the detective novel because they have to solve the crimes too. As a result, we get a more detached view of Hawksmoor s character but we feel that we can trust it more because there is supposedly no bias, (although we are still influenced by Ackroyd). Finally, Ackroyd also includes an entirely
  • 13. Comparison Of Shooting An Elephant And The Reluctant... George Orwell and Mohsin Hamid in their works Shooting an Elephant and The Reluctant Fundamentalist, respectively have a presence that is perhaps more intimate than in any given story. Both write in first person, and both describe events that somehow mirror their own lives; however, their narrative style differs in certain ways that are critical to understanding their relationship to the imperialistic powers they critique. The most prominent difference between the two works is as simple as format. Though both are written in first person, Hamid s The Reluctant Fundamentalist is written as a dramatic monologue from a Pakistani man named Changez, and Shooting an Elephant features an unnamed English narrator, likely Orwell himself, describing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Hamid s novel, the protagonist Changez is speaking to an American stranger, who contributes little to the story beyond suggestions of his feelings as observed by Changez. This choice, like the one to have Changez narrate the novel, creates an additional but distinct kind of distance for Hamid. Instead of delivering an extended soliloquy, Changez is speaking directly to another person, which suggests two things: first, that Changez must constantly be aware of others reactions (particularly, an American s reaction) to what he s saying, and second, that he might be slightly sugarcoating his views as a result. For example, as he describes the 9/11 attacks in New York, Changez tells the American, I stared as one and then the other of the twin towers of New York s World Trade Center collapses. And then I smiled. Yes, despicable as it may sound, my initial reaction was to be remarkably pleased. The phrase despicable as it may sound implies, to put it simply, that Changez must be aware of how he sounds he is either reacting to an expression or body movement from the stranger, or simply anticipating the stranger s reaction to what he s said. The fact that Changez guesses that the American will find his response to 9/11 despicable does not necessarily mean that Changez himself finds it despicable; he is simply acknowledging the ardent,
  • 14. The Causes And Consequences Of The Cold War The Cold War In 1945, the United States and Soviet Union were allies, triumphant in World War II, which ended with total victory for Soviet and American forces over Adolf Hitler s Nazi empire in Europe. Within a few years, yet, wartime allies became mortal enemies, locked in a global struggle military, political, economic, ideological to prevail in a new Cold War. Was it the Soviets, who reneged on their agreements to allow the people of Eastern Europe to determine their own fates by imposing totalitarian rule on territories unlucky enough to fall behind the Iron Curtain? Or was it the Americans, who ignored the Soviets legitimate security concerns, sought to intimidate the world with the atomic bomb, and pushed to expand their own international influence and market dominance? The tensions that would later grow into Cold War became evident as early as 1943, when the Big Three allied leaders American President Franklin D. Roosevelt, British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, and Soviet Premier Josef Stalin met in Tehran to coordinate strategy. Poland, which sits in an unfortunate position on the map, squeezed between frequent enemies Russia and Germany, became a topic for heated debate. The Poles, then under German occupation, had not one but two governments in exile one Communist, one anticommunist hoping to take over the country upon its liberation from the Nazis. The Big Three disagreed over which Polish faction should b allowed to take control after the war, with

Lebron James, Kobe Bryant, and Dwight Howard are just a few examples. Even though, as of 2006, the NBA eligibility rule states that a player entering the NBA draft must be at least nineteen years old and a year removed from high school, it is still a huge debate in the sports world of whether or not this rule is the right choice. If the rule were to be changed to require two years of college, the players would be much more experienced and would create a stronger group of rookies each year for the NBA. Imagine a young man, straight out of high school, with dreams of playing in the NBA. What if he was one of the four players who, between 1975 and 2001, declared for the draft straight out of high school never made it to the NBA (Should high school players be eligible). What are his options after that? Sure, he could always go to college, but what if he never applied to one? Another option is to play in a European league, but how is an eighteen or nineteen year old expected to live on his own in a whole new country? This is just one downfall to being able to enter the draft straight out of high school. While many are successful, the young men who are not may be forced to give up their dream and must make serious life decisions to move forward. For this reason alone, the rule should stay the same to allow players to mature before they are able to enter the draft. The year of college basketball played is monumental in the maturation of young players directly out of high school. High school basketball is clearly a much different game than what is played in the NBA; the pace is slower and the plays are far less complex. With this said, only few players are able to adapt to the fast pace of the NBA straight out of high school. For the majority of the players unable to do so, their

Jane, orphaned during early childhood, constantly felt neglected, mistreated, and isolated. Her aunt and cousins treated her as if she was a penniless outcast, thus causing her to become angry and rebellious. Her feelings mirrored that of Mr. Rochester s wife, Bertha Mason, whom he decided to lock away in the attic at Thornfield Hall. He had become disgusted by her violent outbursts and inappropriate behavior, as she had been diagnosed with insanity. Throughout the novel, it becomes apparent that Jane and Bertha were extremely different from one another, yet they often encountered similar situations. Bertha s character represents what would have happened to Jane if she remained rebellious and became violent. The purpose of the character doubling with Jane and Bertha is to depict Bertha as an impediment to Jane becoming Mr. Rochester s mistress and to illustrate how they parallel one another in temperament and emotions, signifying that Bertha is a representation of Jane s real desires and her potential to wind up with Bertha s same fate. It can therefore be understood that the English language is a vital means of communication for millions of people around the world. English has now become the Lingua Franca of the business world. In the business world, partners and companies belonging to different nations and cultures conduct operations in either one of the languages of the involved or in a neutral language, known as the Lingua Franca. Lingua Franca signifies the common language or the common language for speakers of different first languages and can also be referred to as the; bridge, working, vehicular or trade language. The term linguistic imperialism and linguistic relativism are key in understanding a language as a Lingua Franca. Linguistic imperialism stands for a dominant nation s practice of transferring it s cultural, social, political and, even, economic features and ideologies by transferring its language to other nations and according to Phillipson (1992), the dominance of English needs to be asserted and maintained with continuous reconstruction of cultural inequalities between English and other languages . (DPIC, 2017). More than half of the population in the United States is classified as being religious. Religion is a delicate topic because of how people feel towards it, presenting a very loyal and intense belief, no matter what religion. Whether the death penalty be abolished or supported, if religion taken into consideration; there is a strong belief that though it may be the capital crime, death penalty should not be an option. There are five forms of death penalty in the in United States, in most countries lethal injection is the primary method, as for the second options include electrocution, lethal gas, firing squad, and only in Washington; hanging. Death penalty is a commonly asked question of whether it is good or bad, considering three significant points being that millions are spent; discrimination and a gamble; misconduct, perjury and false accusations are all matters to believe that the death penalty is ludicrous. One of the biggest problems as a result of the death penalty is that millions are being spent. The current system in California s expense on the procedure is $137 million annually, opposing to the cost of an alternative punishment which would be $11.5 million. Taxpayers contribute a great amount of money, Taxpayers in the state of Colorado have spent nearly $33 million defending suspects in death penalty
  • 40. Origin of Mass of Subatomic Particles Essay This past October of 2013, FranГ§ois Englert and Peter W. Higgs were jointly awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in Physics for 2013. For the theoretical discovery of a mechanism that contributes to our understanding of the origin of mass of subatomic particles, and which recently was confirmed through the discovery of the predicted fundamental particle, by the ATLAS and CMS experiments at CERN s Large Hadron Collider . Both Englert and Higgs proposed the theory of how particles acquire mass. It was 1964 when both men proposed this theory independently. It wasn t until the year 2012, that both men had their ideas confirmed by discovery of the Higgs Bosonparticle (particle responsible for giving mass to objects) at the CERN laboratory in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These forces work over different ranges and have different strengths. That is to say, Gravity is the weakest; the electromagnetic force has infinite range but is much stronger than gravity. Three of the fundamental forces result from the exchange of force carrier particles; these belong to a group of particles called bosons. Particles of matter transfer discrete amounts of energy by exchanging bosons with each other (CERN). Each fundamental force has its own corresponding boson the strong force is carried by the gluon, the electromagnetic force is carried by the photon, and the W and Z bosons coincide with the weak force (CERN). That is to say, The Standard Model includes the electromagnetic, strong and weak forces and all their carrier particles. This new particle was somewhat consistent with the Higgs boson, but it will take more research to actually determine if it is the same Higgs boson predicted by the original Standard Model. Being that protons are filled with subatomic particles like quarks, antiquarks, and gluons they rarely pass or collide with each other. That is to say, at a mass of about 125 GeV, the Higgs boson particle turned out to be approximately one hundred times heavier than a proton. The Higgs boson particle showed that particles due have mass. This played a unique role in the Standard
  • 41. Discrimination Against Asian Immigrants Essays During the late 1800s, waves of Asian immigrants from other countries arrived at the United States of America. These countries include China, Japan, Korea, Philippines, and India. They believed that coming to the United States would enable them to achieve the America Dream , but various laws and discrimination prevented them from achieving the dream. In response to these laws and discrimination, Asian immigrant groups asserted a sense of agency to protect themselves from oncoming discrimination and prejudice. Agency is defined as Asian Immigrants/Americans resistance to the discrimination, unfair laws, prejudice, and low wages. Some agency was successful and others were not, but the main idea was that Asian immigrants were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In addition to work hours, on the fields, the foremen patrolled while cracking and snapping his whip. The foremen would crack his whip near laborers to increase work productivity (Takaki, 135). In addition to unfair working conditions, a racial hierarchy was also developed in the plantations, with the white and foremen at the top. A good example of the hierarchy is suburban housing (Price). The owner and lunas or foremen would live at the top of the hill, the Japanese in wooden houses, Filipinos in run down houses, and the Chinese in barracks (Price). This hierarchy served as system to prevent unions and strikes from forming. To prevent solidarity and unification of the workers, the plantation owners developed a mixed wage system and a diverse work force (Price). A mixed wage and a diverse work force served as a barrier from forming unions and going on strike. Also, owners also encouraged or promoted different groups to insult or put down different groups in order to increase worker productivity and widen the gap between each group (Takaki, 25). This system is similar to the checks and balances system in the U.S government. For example, if one group gets too powerful, i.e. the Japanese, Filipinos would be brought in to counter the Japanese. The different groups serve to check each other s power. With this system in place, the Asian immigrant groups were not easily able to assert their sense of agency. Despite the precautions the plantation
  • 42. The Hopelessness Theory of Depression In my literary research review, I will look at articles presenting research on the effectiveness of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy on those who are suffering from depression. The articles will be discussing Cognitive Behavioral Therapies effectiveness on those of different ages and genders. The literature will research and review quantitative and qualitative studies and what their outcomes revealed. Research on the effectiveness of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for those who are suffering from depression shows that in the short term, the effectiveness is similar in results to medical interventions. However, in treating depression for a long time, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is shown to be successful. The additional information learned ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In a follow up study conducted twelve months post treatment showed that relapse rates were lower among patients who received Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (39%) versus those who received antidepressant medication (65%) . (Hollon, Shelton, Loosen, 1991) Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is also an excellent therapy for the elderly; studies have shown improvement in emotional functioning with its use. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy studies show that using it for treatment is a good way to address several complications in the elderly, which not only includes depression, but also helps with issues such as anxiety, substance and alcohol abuse and problems with their physical bodies, mobility, and other medical problems. (Satre, Knight, David, 2006) Highlighting the empirical studies of the patient s thoughts, evaluations, interpretations and expectations separated Cognitive Behavioral Therapy from other forms of psychotherapy. The outcome of several studies yield comparable results in elderly people who receive Cognitive Behavioral Therapy when compared to results stated from the studies of the under 65 year old age group. The conclusion of these studies is that both young and old can benefit from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (Laidlaw, 2001) Satre, Knight, David, (2006) also show in their article how

Most of all, since it is a comprehensive method, it can even build their social connection further and further if they understand and communicate with each other in the right way. In addition, Fairmont hotels also give exclusive deals to their employees, family members and friends. As employees who have moved to another property of the hotel chain notice and compare common customer s needs, they realize how their customer should be treated and what is the most important factor to sustain their service
  • 44. Failures Of The Articles Of Confederation In 1776, the Declaration of Independence, drafted by Thomas Jefferson, was formally adopted. The American Revolution had already been going on with the battles of Lexington and Concord over a year prior, but the first government of the United States is the Articles of Confederation, a constitution based on Republican ideas and democracy. The Continental Congress approved the Articles of Confederation in 1777. It was adopted, written by John Dickinson, but there was a delay in ratifying it by the states. States like Virginia and Massachusetts had claimed a bunch of land stretching from the East Coast all the way to the Pacific Ocean as part of their colonial charters. States like Maryland and Pennsylvania, who did not have these land claims, did not want to ratify this new national government until the land is relinquished. It was not until in 1781 when the states officially ratified the Articles of Confederation. From 1781 to 1789, the Articles of Confederation failed and had created problems in political, economic, and foreign policies, making this new national government an ineffective government. The Articles of Confederation is a
  • 45. Lung Capacity And Breath Holding Time Abstract: This study was conducted to test whether or not lung capacity and breath holding time are positively correlated. After performing a simple study to test these two factors, it was found that they are in fact not correlated at all. Both lung capacity and breath holding time have many different influencing factors that make them uncorrelated to each other. I.Introduction To begin to understand lung capacity and breath holding, one must fully comprehend the anatomy and physiology of the two systems involved in respiration. While all cells in the body receive and use oxygen, it is the cardiovascular and respiratory systems that collect oxygen, transport it to cells, and remove harmful carbon dioxide from the body. When we inhale, oxygen enters the body through the mouth or the nasal cavity and then travels down the pharynx (throat) and through the larynx (voice box). The oxygen then enters the trachea (windpipe), a long tube that carries air to the lungs. The trachea branches out into two sections before arriving at the lungs, one tube per each lung. These two tubes are known as the bronchi. The bronchi are surrounded with small tubes of smooth muscle called bronchioles. These bronchioles can either constrict or dilate around the bronchi to allow more or less air to flow into the lungs. Finally, the bronchioles attach to thin sacs of air called alveoli. This is where gas exchange occurs. The cardiovascular system also plays a big role in respiration as it is the

The obtained X ray diffraction patterns confirmed the formation of a single phase cubic spinel structure for the ferrite samples with a crystallite size ranging from 25 34nm as reported earlier [16]. The X ray diffractionpatterns were fitted using a Rietveld refinement procedure as shown in Fig 2 [17,18]. The fitted patterns were observed for eight peaks indexed by miller indices (220), (311), (222), (400), (422), (511) and (440), evident from the normal XRD patterns as reported earlier [16]. From the Fig 2 it is observed that sharpness in the peak is increased with an observed decrease in the width of the peak, which is the indication of the increase in particle size of the ferrite with the increase in Indium content. From the Fig 2 it is evident that observed patterns were exactly coinciding with the calculated values and the difference is very negligible. In comparison with the normal XRD patterns Rietveld patterns have shown some extra peaks of (331), (531), (422), (620), (533) and (622) which correspond to the second order impurity phase. The intensities of the impurity peaks reflect that the percentage of the impurity is negligible. From the Rietveld refinement patterns of the samples it is clear that the ferrites belong to the space group Fd3m with lattice parameter values ranging from 8.3106A0 to 8.3648A0. The values are in
