Is technology the basis of long term national competitive advantage?
Compare differences in the innovation systems of leading economies, industries and firms. (72%)
1. Introduction
Technological developments have shaped our world since the beginning of civilization. In this report, by
examining the important influences of technology and other factors which may also be powerful influences
on human history, we will discuss whether technology is the basis of long term national competitive
advantage. We will base our argument on Porter s and Chandler s theories, and support it with research
evidence. In the following report, we will answer the questions in detail.

In summary, supporting innovation and use of technology helps a country move forward in the long term.
3. Comparison of Countries Japan / USA / UK / Germany / China
In this report, there are five countries (Japan, the USA, the UK, Germany and China) compared at the macro
level, which is about the origin of resource, input amount on R amp;D, numbers of degree holders in science
and engineering, efficiency, innovative capacity index and relation to policy. The resources for Japan s
innovation is mostly from private firms, universities and public research institutes; for America it is mainly
from non U.S. firms as well as universities (Buiges, 2009). For the UK, Germany and China, the origin of the
national innovation system is the governments of those countries.
To compare the national expenditure for R amp;D, this report focuses on comparing the input to R amp;D as
the share of the economic output of those countries. Japan has the highest share of expenditure for R amp;D
which has been more than 3% of the country s output since 2007 and the percentage is increasing (Abe and
Fitzgerald, 1995). The USA has a stable expenditure share between 2.5 to 3% since 1996 (Dicken, 2003).
The expenditure of Germany and the UK have stayed between 1.5 to 2% since 1996. However, China s input
to R amp;D has risen from less than 1% in 1996 to more than 2% at the end of 2007(Sun et al, 2007), and
keeps growing. Table 1 illustrates

Oral Cavity And Pharynx Research Paper
It will take Matt and Maria about five to thirty seconds to chew their General Tso s chicken and rice. Food
remains in their oral cavity and pharynx for about only one minute (Primal Pictures). The oral cavity is
where the initial phases of mechanical and chemical digestion begins. It helps sense the food being
consumed by gaining information regarding taste, texture and temperature. The pharynx is a fibromuscular
structure that connects the oral cavity with the esophagus. During this time the walls of the pharynx constrict
to push the General Tso chicken and rice into the esophagus. The food then travels to the esophagus and is
there for a short amount of time, around five to eight seconds (Primal Pictures). The esophagus is a
continuation of the pharynx. Peristalsis ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The stomach mixes the highly acidic gastric juices and enzymes with the chyme to prepare the nutrients
absorption in the small intestine. The food does not stay in the pancreas, liver, or gallbladder but simply
passes by it. These digestive organs aid in the chemical digestion of chyme as it passes into the small
intestine. After staying in the stomach four a few hours and passing by the pancreas, liver and gallbladder, it
will go to the small intestine (Primal Pictures). Once the food is in the small intestine, it will take three to
five hours from entry at the duodenum to exit from the ileum. The small intestine takes part in the further
chemical digestion and absorption of the food. The nutrients from the Chinese food will pass through the
wall of the small intestine and into the bloodstream so that the nutrients can spread throughout the rest of the
body. The surface area for absorption will increase through tiny projections called villi. The unabsorbed
portion of the bolus then enters the large intestine. Once the food remains have reached the large intestine it
can take up anywhere between 10 hours to several

The Importance Of Security In War
The Jaish al Mahdi understood and exploited U.S. public opinion. This incident demonstrated that
adversaries can achieve success by conducting influence operations. China identifies cyberspace as a key
domain to project power and dominance. Chinese military strategists believe that information operations are
directly linked to success or defeat in war and priority should be given to launching preemptive attacks. In
2005, China infiltrated numerous secure government systems and successfully retrieved more than ten
terabytes of data. The following year, China attacked a total of forty nine U.S. companies and government
agencies. A number of those companies were involved in the production of the F 35 and other classified
military weapons. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The principles within the strategy can be linked to information as an instrument of national power. However,
existing U.S. strategies have three shortfalls: 1) scope (addressing all dimensions in the information
environment), 2) deterrence (defining acts of war), and 3) whole of nation approach. The first shortfall is that
the scope must be broader. U.S. strategies sufficiently address threats to the physical and informational
dimensions within the information environment. However, the U.S. lacks a strategy that identifies challenges
and threats in the cognitive dimension within the information environment. Adversaries, such as ISIS, are
effectively utilizing influence campaigns to advance their agenda by manipulation of the values, perceptions,
and beliefs of the U.S. public and other target audiences. Information, or misinformation, is a primary means
to shape global opinions. The U.S. continues to yield the initiative in influence operations and function in a
reactionary capacity. Strategic communication messaging to enhance U.S. credibility and legitimacy have
been slow and at times ineffective. The behavior data generated through social media has enabled researchers
to understand groups, globally making it easier to spread and

Socialhappy= βo

The main focus of this study was to determine how social media use impacts social happiness. The social
happiness question is phrased as, How happy are you with your social life at Colby? [with the following
options] Very happy, Mostly happy, Indifferent, Not happy, Miserable I transformed social happiness into a
binary variable. If a participant selected Very Happy or Mostly Happy they are considered socially happy at
Colby. One challenge I ran into with this study was the uneven categorical data responses from the survey.
The uneven increment increases made analysis more difficult in that you could no longer describe how a one
unit increase in Bk affects social happiness. For example the survey asked, How many hours each day do
you typically spend on social media (Facebook, Snapchat, Twitter, etc.) The listed responses were None, I
don t use social media, 1 to 2, 2 to 4, 4 to 6, 6 or more. I corrected this particular issue by recoding social
media to grow by two hour increments. Based upon how I observe my own peers relationship with social
media, I predicted a negative relationship with social happiness. The added dictionary definition of FOMO
also gives validity to this claim.
Other variables also suffered from irregular increments of

Food Labeling Memo
The memo will be about the new rules for Food Labeling: Revision of the Nutrition and Supplements Fact
Labels. This new rule was a proposal, which was done according to the Food and Drug Administration. I will
have the memo broken into a few main points. The main points will go over the main idea of the piece and
go into the detail about each one. The first main idea of the memo will be about going into detail in the
decision of the Food and Drug Administration to see why they are making the changes to the rule. Next, I
will go into how there are quite a few organizations which are very affected because of the new rule change.
Lastly, I will go into detail about all the new things, the people, and organizations affected by these changes
in the rule.
Point 1: The Food and Drug Admiration is making adjustments to the rule.
The administration proposed major alterations to the rule of company s labeling nutrients on the back of
foods and other nutrient supplement. The main goal of this is to let consumers know everything they are
putting into their bodies to promote more health in the country. The changes included the format where the
nutrients are labeled, required a special exception for products that may not be reported on the nutrients
label, and the overall reporting of nutrients. The Food and Drug Administration is looking into what ... Show

really high but the Food and Drug Administration is looking out for the consumers best interest. The FDA is

How Can A Contractor Avoid Liability for Defective Work?
Every contract created produces a margin of risk and a platform for success. Depending on how one manages
the risk assumed, one may either excel and shine in the glory of success or drown and disappear in the raging
waters of error. Nevertheless, to become great one must take that step of faith into the flailing wind. As said
by Leo F. Buscalglia, The person who risks nothing does nothing, has nothing, is nothing, and becomes
nothing. He may avoid suffering and sorrow, but he simply cannot learn... and grow... and live. (Buscalglia,

Binghamton Housing Authority. It was six years after the completion of the Saratoga Terrace apartment
complex when a child fell off the back porch stoop and received severe injuries. The parents of the child
claimed that the contractor and owner were responsible due to their negligence in constructing the stoop
without a protective railing. The court referenced back to the Campo v. Schofield case, which states, We have
not yet reached the state where a manufacturer is under the duty of making a machine accident proof or
foolproof. The court also noted that the complex had been used without accident for six years and that it did
not conceal any dangers or defective work that would not have been found by a reasonable inspection. The
outcome of the case proved that the pleading did not contain any allegation of a defect, and that the liability
rested upon the parents of the child.
Consequently, the phrase Caveat Emptor (Buyer Beware) protects the contractor from future claims as long
as the defective work existed at the time of inspection and could have reasonably been identified.
Nevertheless, a contractor must also understand that if the defective work is classified as a latent defect, the
risk and liability associated with this defect may be transferred back to the contractor.
Therefore, a contractor must understand what a latent

Forgive In The Sunflower
Forgive, not because they deserve forgives, but because you deserve peace. It s not easy to stop blaming
someone s fault, especially for someone who do wrong to us. In the book The Sunflower written by Simon
Wiesenthal, a survivor of the Holocaust during World War II, he described his conflict with Karl, a dying
Nazi soldier who killed many innocent Jews and begging for forgiveness for his outrageous crime at the end
of his life. At the end of this sad and tragic episode, Simon did not response to Karl s request directly; instead
he left us a tough question: What should you have done? Based on what Karl had done during World War II
and his repentance, each person might have their own point of view about where should we draw the line of
forgiveness. But, in my opinion, while it might be true ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although Karl appeared to be a murderer since he killed so many innocent Jews during World War II, he
deserved forgiveness because the scientific experiment explains that Karl s behaviors were led by human
being. The most two related experiments to shows Karl s actions in psychological ways are taken by Stanley
Milgram and Philip Zimbardo. In Milgram s experiment, it showed that subordinates would have a tough
time if they go against orders. More specifically, Milgram displayed the data that twenty five out of forty
subjects choose to fully obey the order even though their actions would be harmful for learners (Milgram

Terrestrial Human Body
Earthsicknesss: Circumnavigation and the Terrestrial Human Body by Joyce E. Chaplin and Fear of Hot
Climates in the Anglo American Colonial Experience by Karen Kupperman both provide great insight on
specific cases in which European exploration and colonization lead to drastic changes in timely practices
related to health, diet, and daily life. In her piece, Chaplin explicitly discusses the issue of scurvy in relation
to circumnavigation, ranging from the 1500s to the beginning of the 1800s, with the assistance of direct
accounts, narratives, medical statistics, and European literature. Generally, throughout the 3 centuries, sailors
and captains believed that scurvy (also known as sea sickness) could be cured solely through direct contact ...

Kupperman begins her article with a summary of standard body humor belief, while criticising the European
belief that uncommon climates drastically affected their health. Nevertheless, once colonization of the West
Indies and the Americas began, Europeans quickly realized the benefits of warmer climates, such as
increases in crop production, harvest, and variety. Negatives were also analyzed as weeds ran rampant and
working hours were compromised around the hottest parts of the day. Adaptation and acclimation were
central components of new colonization lifestyle, which included altering physiology through trained
sweating and diet, wearing lighter and informal articles of clothing, and building homes in different locations
and out if different materials. Colonists generally learned their survival skills from natives, who offered their
own remedies to medical conditions such as heat stroke and yellow fever, which colonists quickly adapted as
the diseases of the West Indies seemingly contrasted from those of Europe. Although Europeans originally
denied their possible success and survival in the New World, many found that immense production
accompanied the climate change, which was worth the health risks and lifestyle

Greek Gods And Myths
Now we all know that God exists, but how accurate are the bible stories that describe God compared to that
of the Greek ones and their Gods. In other words, how does Christianity compare to stories, fables, and
myths? DISCLAIMER Before I do anything I just want you to know that I wrote up a ten page paper but I
shortened it down destroying all evidence of other gods or religious figures not based on Christianity. So
please excuse me if I sound like an atheist. For one thing, God and the Greek gods are quite similar in how to
act. For instance, God has wisdom just like Athena that they both used in battle, times of diplomacy and to
empower the people of earth. God rules over all just like Zeus and promised righteous judgment to all who
did not sacrifice towards him. However, our God also has some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
of total annihilation. God, however, was love because of his promise to guide people on their path through
life.
Now we all know that God exists, but how accurate are the bible stories that describe God compared to that
of the Greek ones and their Gods. In other words, how does Christianity compare to stories, fables, and
myths? First I feel that it be best for me to take a step back to describe God in the clearest way possible. One
of God s many traits is that of his immaculate wisdom. Wisdom is the ability to devise perfect ends and to
achieve these ends by the most faultless means. In other words, God makes no mistakes. He is the Father
who truly knows best, as Paul explains in Romans 11:33: Oh, how great are God s riches and wisdom and
knowledge! How impossible it is for us to understand His decisions and His ways! So how do the other
Greek gods with wisdom stack up against God?
For one they are already short stacked because none of them have perfect wisdom and although they do have
wisdom it is not the immaculate wisdom that God has. For instance, Athena may have wisdom, but she can
still be bested. If I was to speak in a down to earth way it would mean

Embracing Depression Essay
We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars. Oscar Wilde Perhaps I feel compelled to write
on the subject of depression because it is a selfish disease. It seeps into every crevice of one s life; it refuses
to be ignored, to be relegated to some obscure corner of the mind. Perhaps I m writing about it because of
what I have learned about my relationship with the disease. Perhaps the time has come when I m ready to
stop cursing the depression and start embracing it.

On a recent episode of ER, a physician who was deaf queried, Did you ever think that being deaf might not
be so bad? She had accepted that her deafness was a part of her life, without allowing it to define who she
was. For quite a while, I wasn t able to see my depression in that way. When it was first diagnosed, I didn t
want to admit that this was something that would affect my existence. I wanted to rid myself of the illness
immediately. As the years passed, however, I let myself become the incarnation of the disease. Lurking at the
edge of my consciousness was the thought that I should resist the attempts to heal the depression. A part of
me believed that if I let the medications and psychotherapy take the depression away from me, I would be
lost. Rather than seeing myself as a person with depression, I saw myself as a depressed person. The
distinction is subtle but significant.
I have finally reached the point where I can see both the horrors and the beauty of depression. It is something
that should be neither glorified nor reviled. I am able to hate the illness for stealing away moments of my
childhood while simultaneously appreciating the insight it has helped me to gain. Had I not known the
absolute anguish it brought, I would not now recognize supreme happiness. Had I not experienced the
heartache of personal defeat, I would not find such succor in emotional triumph. Had there not been times

Greek Mental Illness History
The history of psychopathology goes back hundreds of centuries in the past. The history of psychopathology
goes along with social and medical history. Throughout history we can see that mental health has evolved in
the way we conceive it. Also, through history, we understand why the mentally ill have been tortured, or
protected, and this will depend on the perspective of the human being at that particular time. Mentally ill
people in prehistoric times were seen as if evil spirits possess them, so the exorcism and spells applications
were the ways to treat their condition. Today mental illness is treated scientifically and as human disease and

Midas Touch From Greek Mythology
My favorite Myth is The Midas Touch from greek Mythology. The Moral of the story is that riches are not
the most important thing in life. The way this myth goes is that a satyr a half man half goat parties to hard

king Midas lives. While he was asleep the next morning Princess Zoe went outside and found him sleeping
there and thought he was a normal goat but in reality he was a satyr and he was ugly.
The princess called the gardener over and told him to take the thing out but then king midas appeared and
saw the creature and wanted him to stay. For the next week king Midas had treated the satyr as a high

children were involved in soldier hood activities, whereas, more than 20,000 were awaiting demobilization.
This is a big number, showing how greedy and desperate the groups are to safe guard their supremacy
(Bergner, 2003). The consequences of conflicts in West Africa saw many children recruited as soldiers
forcibly. The recruiters of children employ different tactics to ensure such children remain in the group to
fight for them. Of the strategies used is to make sure the children witness the child rebels being severely
punished. It is a way of instilling fear to them, leaving them with no option of thinking to dessert the camp.
During the fight, these children are in most cases placed in the fore front fighting line

The University Of Alabama Faculty Jazz
The University of Alabama Faculty Jazz Band along with guest player, Bill Peterson the jazz pianist, made
up a chamber ensemble and performed beautiful and upbeat jazz music. The faculty members include Tom
Wolfe, the guitarist, Chris Kozak, the bass player, and Mark Lanter, the drummer. The entire concert was
played in a major key and had nothing but positive energy. The pieces and players were extremely creative
and they managed to tell a story and create beautiful imageries through the changing sounds, rhythms,
melodies, keys and texture. The first part of the jazz concert had three sections. The first section began subito
(abruptly) with everyone playing in sync and the guitarist as the main player. He played with a vivacious
tempo, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As we moved further along, the bass player, Chris Kozak took over. He slowly emerges from the silence as
he carefully tapped the cymbals. The dynamic remained piano as the tempo gradually gets faster
(accelerando). This heightened the tension before they all began to play together at 12:26 and returned to the
initial mezzo forte dynamic of the piece. Towards the end, a characteristic of African music was highlighted
where they performed a series of call and response. It was thrilling to hear this. My favorite part of the
concert was the second part. The group played a song called Body and Soul. The guitarist played slowly
before the others joined. They created a relaxed atmosphere with an old school effect. All the notes were
legato except the melodies of the drum which was staccato. The combination added character to the piece
and made it entertaining. At 19:00, the pianist played briskly but beautifully, then the guitarist did the same.
The notes became high pitched and the tempo and dynamics increased. After the guitar stopped, everything
went into decrescendo and the melodies from the bass and drums became choppy (staccato). Overall the
piece surrounded the theme of dependence and how it affects one s happiness or strength. The piano and the
guitar brought the happy aspect to the piece and without it, everything weakened and became uncoordinated.
Initially it celebrated peace,

Robert Welch Leadership
When people sign up for the ministry; or better stated, when people are called into the ministry, they often
assume that most of their time will be spent studying the bible, conversing with lost souls about the good
news of Jesus and seeking God in prayer. However, successful ministers and ministries are the result of
effectively executed administrative duties. According to Robert Welch and his book Church Administration,
a study of pastors revealed, about 57 percent of their ministry was tied up in strictly nonpastoral
administrative duties. 1 What is more, many ministers admitted, counseling, visitation, family time, prayer
and personal devotions suffer in too many cases. 2 Is this simply a case of misguided expectations, poor

I remember when I was given my first ministry leadership opportunity, there were barely twenty people to
manage and that was only for one summer. However, in my current setting, there are hundreds of people that
I am responsible. To help with this situation, Welch points to the story of Moses and Jethro as an example of
a wise and foolish leader. Moses attempted to manage everyone alone (being foolish) and his wise father in
law recommends that he administers differently by appointing leaders of 100s, 50s, 10s, and so on. What is
more, Welch points out an interesting fact of that God chose significant leaders who were prepared for the
task of leadership and organization. 4 There is great importance to recognize God s selection of people for
the work and the connection between leadership and organization. Perhaps as leaders become more
organized their leadership grows; and vice versa. Also, the Apostle Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 12 about God
giving the church different leadership roles; one of which is administrations.5 Therefore, the role of
administration is from God and necessary for a church to thrive; as well as grow into what Jesus intends it to
be. Also, my role is not to unload the needs of administration onto someone else, but rather see
administration as a primary function of my role within the church. Yet what exactly is administration within
the context of the local church? At a glance, administration seems to be the function of a church secretary or
assistant pastor rather than a role every leader plays. However, this assumption is misguided because
administration is leadership. Welch eloquently states administration

China Cultural Awareness Book Report Essay
China Cultural Awareness Book Report
Introduction
I chose the book On China by Henry Kissinger to analyze the country I was assigned because it was a fairly
new book. On China was written in 2011, information throughout the book was relevant, up to date, and easy
to comprehend. Throughout the last few months of Warrant Officer Basic Course we have been introduced to
numerous tools that help us during the Targeting process. One of the tools that we utilized was the acronym
PMESII PT (political, military, economic, social, information, infrastructure, physical environment, and

The context in this paper therefore is going to analyze the country progression utilizing the information
written in On China. I will analyze the country from the ancient China to the Modern china that has
established her through political leaderships and economic stability of the country.
Political organization in China
Dynasty rise and falls characterized China s ancient political organizations (Kissinger Henry 88). The
dynasty era began during the Xia dynasty in around 2100 1600 BC and ended when the Republic of China
government was formed in the year 1949. Their political organization was hereditary, hence the name
dynasty. This meant that when the king or the emperor died the succession for the throne would occur in the
same family line; mainly from father to son. There were some occasions, however, when a non blood relative
would assume the leadership positions. Nevertheless, this was in very rare instances. This kind of political
organization and ruling to some extent might have promoted unity of the various kingdoms as per the time;
although this was not always the case. There are some instances when the country Kingdom split and later
merged again through conquests and war.
The ancient China was characterized by many dynasties (Kissinger Henry 72). The Xia dynasty was the first.
The Shang dynasties succeed the Xia dynasty (1600 1046). Then there was the Zhou Dynasty. It was

Exegesis of Luke 5:27 32
Overview
The passage that was chosen was Luke 5:27 32, or the calling of Levi. This passage presents Jesus telling
Levi, a tax collector, to follow him. Levi does follow Jesus, and soon after they are having a banquet dinner
with other tax collectors. Jesus is asked why he chooses to eat with them, and he simply responds with It is
not the healthy who need a doctor, but those who are sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners
to repentance.
Levi is chosen to emphasize that he is of the worst sinners. The dinner with the sinners is a part of Jesus
mission of this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In verse 29, he is changed from Levi the tax collector to Levi (Matthew) the disciple.
Jesus exposes to the Pharisees that his point was to call sinners to repentance. The tradition of table
fellowship was quite common among the Pharisees (Green 244). The dinner represents a festive event,
depicting Levi s leaving everything. By leaving everything, Levi has repented (Green 246).
Detailed Analysis
Luke s talents include being an artist and a theologian. He was a master of Greek and can write elegantly in
Greek. In his gospel, he uses a larger vocabulary than that of Matthew and Mark (McKenzie 525).
The Gospel of Luke was considered historical content that is still referred to Lukan themes today (McKenzie
525). Jesus and his morals are detailed in the gospel. This book is represented by a priestly calf. The calf is
fitting because the book starts off with priests and ends with the calf (Just 2).
The writer of this gospel was most likely a Gentile Christian. The Gospel of Luke and the Acts of the
Apostles were both written by the same author. The evidence comes from the prefaces in both books. Both
are addressed to the same person (Theophilus) and both have cross references to one another.
Synthesis
There are a couple lessons to be learned in this passage. The first is that Jesus reaches out to those who need
him the most. Jesus reaches out to Levi in the passage because he needs him the most.
The second is the Jesus is trying to recruit the poor

Superheroes In The Incredibles
The Incredibles is a 2004 animated film produced by Pixar Studios. It takes place in a superhero filled world
in the 1960 s. The film follows former superheroes, Bob and Helen Parr, as well as their super powered
children. The film breaks from the convention of the genre through its focus on the consequence of hero
work, the subversion of the typical protagonist and its lack of source material.
Often in superhero films, heroes are able to tear up whole cities in the pursuit of stopping a villain with next
to no repercussions resulting from the property damage they caused; this type of careless display of
destruction was shown in such films as The Avengers (2012), and was most notably criticized in 2013 s Man
of Steel. The Incredibles, however, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After the events of the opening sequence, it cuts to 15 years later, as they are no longer allowed to use their
superpowers, Bob is working at a mundane office job and Helen (formerly Elastigirl) is at home taking care
of their children. Heroes are often shown as younger and physically fit, not middle aged and married; even in
films where they follow a more mature hero, such as Tony Stark in Iron Man (2008), and subsequent films;
he is still a childless bachelor. Centering the film on characters in this phase of life brings an interesting
perspective on what it would be like to juggle a family and superhero work. Moreover, unlike other
superhero teams, which may position the team as coming together to form familial like relationship through
their shared super powered abilities, as in X Men (2000), or through an organization like Avengers (2012),
The Incredibles has the superhero team as an actual family. The film displays a realistic, slightly
dysfunctional family dynamic, making the characters feel real instead portraying them like gods or icons to
look up to, as superheroes often

My girlfriend s brother, Mary served in the Marines for four years. In those four years, he made three combat

with a severe brain injury and partly blind in his left eye. Mary was in an Iraqi hospital for about two weeks.
He then decided to continue with his duty of being of Marine. This accident, along with losing close friends,

b) Examine how an audit committee could help to resolve this situation
One of the functions of an audit committee is to monitor the periodic reviews of the accounting and financial
reporting processes and systems of internal control that are conducted by the company s independent
auditors, financial and senior management and internal auditing department. So in this case, the AC could
review the company s internal control processes regarding following up on long outstanding debtors and
adherence to the credit terms granted to customers. If 6 months is way overdue, and the internal auditors
haven t picked this up, then there is a failure of the internal audit function, as well as a failure of the
accountant in following its own accounting policies. The AC has to take a stand and either support the
external auditors or give its reasons why it doesn t.

Globalisation is the progression towards a growing assimilation between different countries in order to gain a

This has led to a decrease in agricultural produce and an astonishing increase in industrial goods and services
and alleviated a substantial amount of China s absolute poverty.
The Chinese government has embraced a series of strategic policies to address the challenge of economic
globalization. These strategies started in 1978 after Chairman Mao s self sufficient economy plan. China
began employing several reform strategies to enhance growth. This included stimulating the agricultural
sector to allow them to sell a percentage on the free trade market yet hold a competitive position. In addition
to this citizens were given money incentives and tax breaks in order to start new businesses and allocated
regions were created to encourage high levels of investment, increase exports and increase technology levels.
Other reform strategies included Deng Xiaoping s the rearrangement of the economic structure by increasing
the development of the high technology sector and moving away from the agricultural sector; transformation
of the pattern of economic growth by increasing power in IT education and sustainable development as well
as additional progress of the outward oriented economy by implementing come in and go out strategies. This
is where the government encourages its enterprises to invest overseas. This has been demonstrated in

Compare and Contrast the Rise and Fall of Mesopotamia and...
In this project I plan on exploring the contrasts and comparisons between the rise of Mesopotamia and
Egypt. I chose this particular question because during my junior year I took and AP World History class in
which we of course studied the worlds history. One on my favorite things that we studied in that class was
ancient Empires. Mr. Herman, my AP teacher during that time, went through the Mesopotamian and
Egyptian Empires rather too quickly for my tastes. I felt as though there were a lot of things that I missed and
would have loved to study. So during my preparations for the AP exams I wrote a brief essay on comparing
and contrasting the rise and fall of the Egyptian and Mesopotamian Empire. I enjoyed writing this essay and
was quite interested in the topic. Despite the fact this didn t make up much of the exam I later decided that
this would be my capstone topic backup in case I don t like the one I came up with in the future. And like I
predicted I did not like my previous topic and chose to continue this. The reason I thought to do this for my
capstone after my other idea failed was because I found that people would get a lot more out of this. We go
to an arts school and frankly unless something has to do with the history of our art forms people don t really
pay that much attention to history, unless they plan to become an anthropologist. I found that with this I can

The Problem Of A Firm Needs Improvement
There are many ways to determine if a firm needs improvement in control. Some things to look for are a
waste of resources and excessive costs. In addition, if too many errors or defects in the productivity are

these changes you might need improvement. Finally, the lack of managerial capability in complex and

Decentralized control attempts to safeguard employee commitment to organizational objectives by the use of
group norms and culture, a flat structure, and a high level of input from lower level workers. Decentralized
control is focused on attaining superior performance above the satisfactory minimum and centers on group
performance. While bureaucratic control is speedier and simpler to cultivate and offers straightforward
direction to managers, it can be inflexible, it does not reward excellence, and workers may be discouraged by
too many rules and the deficiency of involvement. Decentralized control allows for opportunities of
contribution, recompenses superiority and creativeness, and welcomes collaboration. Yet, decentralized
control can be vague and costly, and can take a great deal of time to cultivate. A large reason that individuals
resist control is due to over control, or the attempt by the organization to regulate too many things. People
also tend to struggle when the concentration of control is unfitting or when they dread too much
accountability. There are numerous methods managers can use to minimize opposition to change. If a good

the system. Individuals are more likely to adhere to controls if they are contributors to their design and

Purpose Of Federalism
Federalism in the Constitution Explain what federalism is and what its purpose is.
Federalism is the division of powers between state and national governments. Federalism gave lower levels
of government power that they did not have. The purpose of federalism is to give the people a sense of
power, and essentially more liberty. However, it also allows a balance of power by giving states the rights to
make their own laws, all while still recognizing the national government as superior.
Explain what the privileges and immunities clause is.
The privileges and immunities clause states that other states have no right to discriminate against another
state and its residents. This gives residents that relish in the privileges and immunities clause in their state,
the right to have indistinguishable treatment in other states. Additionally, a state must not give their residents
any special privileges.
Compare the differences between implied powers, reserved powers, and concurrent powers.
Implied powers are powers that are given to Congress by the Constitution in which they have the power to
make any law that is necessary and proper for conveying the foregoing powers. Reserved powers fall under
the tenth amendment, and their purpose is to reserve powers to the states. Concurrent Powers are the powers
that both the national and state governments have such as the power to retain power for the regulation of
commerce.

graduated from Black River Academy. He had no idea what his future had for him (Lawerence). He entered

Aldous Huxley s Brave New World kindles many questions about today s social order and considers the
questionable society exposed in the book. Throughout the book, Huxley presents a world much different than
the one we are accustomed to. Some question whether the novel portrays a dystopian or utopian civilization.
There are a variety of advantages and disadvantages of Huxley s world paralleled to the one we live in today.
Two major disadvantages considered consist of the lack of family, monogamy, and social organization; as
well as the need for soma in lieu of happiness, or rather the fake happiness it compromises. In contrast, the
benefits of the society are limited. These consist of concepts behind the elimination of conflicts,
commitments, and worries. Everybody observes the story from a different perspective. Knowing the gains
and losses of each society, which pertain to the family system, monogamy, feelings of world peace,
elimination of commitment, and the exclusion of disease, will assist a person in concluding their belief on
whether each culture is flawless or severely corrupt.
Some may argue that Huxley s removal of the normal family system and replacement of it with a
polygamous arrangement is an enthusiastic one. However, the concept behind monogamy and family is a
beautiful one. Monogamy is strength, it gives people a home and a person they can trust and believe in with
their whole heart. With polygamy arises drama, distrust, hatred, lust, and jealousy.

Essay On Jersey Shore
Television genres in the post network era are important because genres can target a larger range of audience,
which results in higher ratings. Genres also help create different and unique narratives that influence popular
culture. Jersey Shore illustrates how the reality television genre has a huge impact on popular culture, society
and viewers. Jersey Shore is about women and men some of Italian descent that party and do whatever they
want. The show explicitly illustrates the roles of guidos (males) and guidettes (females), these people are
working class Italian Americans. Even though the show is representing the Italian population in the U.S. it is
not doing a proper job because the representation is incorrect. The characters and performances ... Show

The Colbert Report is an American late night talk show, which is a news satire and comedic program. The
show illustrates how the comedy and satire genre is important when it comes to informing people about
political and controversial topics. The comedic element of the show makes the program entertaining and
informative. In comparison to The Harvest of Shame this documentary that was used to inform the American
people about a sever issue made people feel bad, it was depressing. The Colbert Report takes boring political
issues and makes them interested, which appeals to younger adults. Many young adults do not pay attention
to politics because it is boring or too difficult to understand. The show takes a political subject, simplifies it
and makes it interesting. For example, in one episode he discusses the 2016 election and makes fun of a
statement of Donald Trump, it s not only funny, but informative. Stephen Colbert is always talking to the
audience directly, which creates a better connect with the viewers. Shows like The Colbert Report bring
people together to discuss important topics. The comedy and satire of the show is just a technique to reach
more people and create a safe environment to discuss these sensitive topics. There are many talk shows that
are comedic and satire because it makes the show self reflexive. In conclusion, genre is a major factor when
it comes to creating

Explain Why Is The Coastal Zone Most Favoured For Development
Why is the coastal zone so favoured for development?
The coastal zone has been favoured for development consistently around the world, this is because of the
benefits settling on the coast brings. There are many physical and human factors that contribute to
accessibility of development on the coast. Half the world s population lives within 60 km of the sea, and
three quarters of all large cities are located on the coast. The benefits the coast holds draw people to develop
it.
One of the reasons the coast is favoured is the conditions it offers. The land by the coast is often, flat and
fertile. Alluvium deposited in land near the coast gives it nutrients making it ideal for agriculture. The flat
land available on many coastlines makes an ideal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ports attract industry and thus development. Larger settlements develop to accommodate the shipping trade
like warehousing, processing and commerce. Shanghai is the busiest port in the world and has developed
because of this. Due to its excellent port, Shanghai has been a leading power of China s economic and trade
development since ancient times. Its economy has increased by over 10% for 15 consecutive years and it
accounts for 25% of the total value of China s imports and exports and 12.5% of the total revenue. By being

My Life s Up And Downs And The Decisions
As I look back at my life s up and downs and the decisions I ve made along the way, thing could have gone
for better or worse, hence the motto in the title. I can recall making small decisions on what I should spend
my time on, either play with my childhood friend s after school or review the homework that I finished in
class? Playtime almost won every time. Even though I knew that reviewing some of my homework could
only help me, even with the good grades I was already making, the decision was made that I wanted to play
more than study. At an early age I began to finish my homework beforehand so I could spend more time out
playing with my friends and eventually I formed a comfort zone that showed consistency and balance
between my grades and studying habits; I studied zilch yet received high grades that included many A s on
tests. As time went on the same process continued and I was still able to remain on track and keep my high
grades throughout middle and high school. The following years really struck me as a surprise when I entered
my first college year and first set of assignments. Considering my standard work load of finishing my
homework at school was completely halted due to the mere fact that class lasted a lot longer but with no time
to finish the homework assignment before leaving class yet even take a look at it. Everything was starting to
get restructured and my norm was thrown out the window after a rough first semester. Throughout my life

The United Colonies And Its Effects On Trade And Illegal...
The Caribbean rival colonies caused major disruption in trade and more illegal activities were spreading
across the new land. The exportation of treasured metals previously deviated from Peru to Mexico causing
the connection between the metropolis and the colonies to disintegrate. There were two types of societies that
existed, the Maroons and the Buccaneers. The first type was made up of struggling settlers that had violent
tendencies, plantiers, exasperated officials, slaves, and free persons of color. The second type was considered
as a trans frontier group to include, Maroons, slave escapees to defiant freebooters (Buccaneers). The

Whereas the second type, gran marronnage was very different. This consisted of an organized attempt to
establish political and social communities of European colonial enclave. Maroons acquired the necessities to
survive including, firearms, tools, utensils, and food once successful marronage was enabled. Between the
mid seventeenth century to the beginning of the eighteenth century the Buccaneers were in their glory.
Transitioning politically and socially, the Buccaneers economy was greatly dependent on selling hides and
boutcan to the ships passing through the Mona Passage and the Windward Passages. They also achieved
international fame by performing freelance attacks on the Spanish possessions in and around the Caribbean.
With the support of rival states the Buccaneers continued their attacks on the Spanish, which helped the
success of non Spanish attempts at colonization. The communities of Buccaneers represented a phase in the
shift from pioneering colonialism to organized imperialism. They began to make profits off of different kinds
of animals such as dogs, horses, cattle, and hogs. The Buccaneers succeeded their attacks on the Spanish by
maintaining support from other states and this created a greater opportunity for colonization. This developed
a bond between the Buccaneers and other cultures around the Caribbean. The

America Will Never Achieve Racial and Social Equality: Racial equality is when all races are treated equally.
Social equality is when all individuals in a society have the same rights and beliefs. Most believe that
America will never achieve racial and social equality. There are many reasons that follow behind this belief.
Reasons and information on this subject will state why people America will never achieve racial and social
equality. President Donald Trump was elected and thousands of women were expected to attend one of the
largest demonstrations in world history. The woman s march in Washington dc quickly increased and almost

Races should treat each others the way they want the other race to treat them. To me that is so disrespectful
how people in general treat each other. Judging is another major topic don t judge a book by its cover. I feel
as if we stopped this and ended racial equality more social between people could happen. This is the century
we have to change what we believe in. As difficult times are ahead of us and approach us. This is when a we
need to change. This is when we need to make a move so a lot of change can stat happening. Not for the
better of one race but for the better of every race and everyone in general. We need to end this racial
prejudice all together its becoming too much and too many movements are happening in effect of it. A lot of
acts happened during the civil rights movements. Martin Luther King, Jr. was the main host of most of the
acts that happened during this time. He dedicated a decade of his life to see if he could pursuit racial equality
and social justice. He fought for what he believe in and that s what I think most of us individuals need to do

Malnutrition And Malnutrition
Redina and her family are refugees fleeing from ongoing conflict in their settlements. Unable to receive an
adequate diet, they remain in a state of constant hunger, and prone to diseases. These are only a two of the
effects malnutrition has on the human body. Malnutrition has been a lingering issue in the Democratic
Republic of the Congo (DRC) causing several issues to the economy, health and wellbeing of the country. In
spite of modern technology and conveniences, there are still populations in the world that are affected by
malnutrition, therefore more worldwide collaborative efforts should be made, not only between the local

It is estimated that two billion people worldwide suffer from malnutrition. Out of those people, 52 million
children under 5 years of age are wasted, 17 million are severely wasted and 155 million are stunted
(Malnutrition). 3 million of those children are from the Democratic Republic of Congo. EE: There are
several reasons for the concentration of malnutrition in the DRC. E: First of all, The Democratic Republic of
Congo has been in the middle of a civil war for nearly 10 years. So the question is, how does this affect the
dietary needs of citizens? Displaced settlements have trouble receiving healthcare and they also face
alarming shortages of food, water, and shelter . Overall, there have been 2.7 million displaced people and
those rates are still going up. In addition, there are 120,000 refugees fleeing to these provinces, and in 5 of
the eastern provinces alone, there are 6.7 million hungry people. (10 Facts). Settlements, such as Tanganyika,
have seen nearly half a million citizens displaced within a year (Democratic Republic of Congo). These
provinces will soon see these numbers climb if something is not done to stop this growing issue.
The effects that malnutrition has on the Democratic Republic of Congo are fairly severe. Not only is
malnutrition affecting the countrywide health, but it also heavily impacts the economy. Because citizens are
undernourished, they are at a higher risk of infections and diseases. This is due to a lack of a balanced diet

The Causes Of Urbanization In Ethiopia
may even be reduced. As the population of an economy becomes wealthier, many prefer to live in the cleaner
and quieter environments of the countryside. Thus, employees need to commute into cities for work, for
which the necessary requirements, such as public transport or individual car ownership, are only given in
more developed countries. Cities in developing countries, on the other hand, still continue to grow. Only the
pace is two to five times faster than it was in the European countries during the period of industrialization
(Kojima, 1996). Many developing countries in the world are currently experiencing an unprecedented rate of
urbanization. It is also clear that, unlike the experience of currently developed countries, the process of
urbanization presently taking place in developing countries is not so much due to rapid industrialization.
Rather, it is the consequence of growing population pressure on land in the rural areas (Kassahun, 2000).
Urbanization has largely taken place as a result of the push of rural inhabitants to urban areas (International
Labour Organization 1998). Like many developing countries, Ethiopia remains among one of the least
urbanized countries in the world. In Ethiopia, Informal settlement is socially, politically and economically
growing problems, usually referred to residential areas where a group of housing units have been constructed
on land to which the occupants have no legal claim or which they occupy illegally. Using the Ethiopian

Analysis Of Emily Dickinson s My Life Had Stood-A Loaded Gun
In Emily Dickinson, My Life had stood A Loaded gun , we as the reader see how a female protagonist stand s
up for herself in defense of the male antagonist. However, in two contrasting literary theory s we see a
difference of opinion. The first literary theory is by Sarah Ahmed and the theory is displayed in her writing
called, Living a Feminist Life. Throughout her work she displays the importance for feminism in todays
world and how one should separate themselves if necessary. The second work that we have is by Donna
Haraway called A Cyborg Manifesto, the main idea throughout the work is contrasting with Ahmed in the
importance for unification. The unification the Haraway uses is by explaining cyborgs and how humans
would react with them, but more importantly how unification of humans and machines effects us.
Throughout the essay Haraway and Ahmed s theory s will be explained and the differences shown. In
Dickinson s novel the first stanza shows how the woman is being passed by without having any voice, it
specifically states, My Life had stood a Loaded Gun In Corners till a Day The Owner passed identified And
carried Me away . In the first stanza it is clear how the woman is referring to herself as a gun that is of no use
to her owner . The owner is presumably a man and has minimal use for her as someone would for a gun.
With that being said a gun is a weapon built with an immense power and it is ofter overlooked how powerful
it is. The same goes for

Satire Definition Essay
Humor, for many, is a cheap laugh and a way to brighten someone s day. But for others, humor goes beyond
that. Often times in today s world, humor is used to convey messages about dangerous or impossible to state
topics. Society allows humorists to speak about unpalatable topics since the delivery of the message is
masked. Humorists take difficult messages and use creative humor to make them more accepted into society.
Have you ever read a statement that made you double take because it said one thing, but meant opposite?
That is called satire. Satire presents a surface level message, but really, in the subtext, the meaning was the
opposite of what it seemed. Satire is seen in the world all around us. For example A Modest Proposal ,
written by Jonathan Smith is a very satirical book. During the Ireland famine, Smith is angered by the lack of
progress being made to help. To point this out, he suggest ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hollywood is notorious for taking dangerous or impossible ideas and masking them with humor. Some may
argue that the film industry only seeks laughter using vulgarity or toilet humor. Movies such as Click ,
featuring Adam Sandler highlight this immature humor. However, the same film tells a lesson on the lack of
appreciation we tend to have for the mundane aspects of our lives. It also provides a social message about
how we all too often live on auto pilot. Another film, Yes Man , is a comedy with a similar message about
living on auto pilot. After a depressing divorce, Jim Carrey decides he will say yes to every opportunity
presented in his life. This movie is hilarious, but also conveys a message about stepping out of your comfort
zone and learning to live a little on the edge. The movie Yes Man provides a deeper message, but it also is a
comedy film. Hollywood film is very effective in providing a deeper message that only humor and comedy

  • 2. Is Technology the Basis of Long-Term National Competitive... Is technology the basis of long term national competitive advantage? Compare differences in the innovation systems of leading economies, industries and firms. (72%) 1. Introduction Technological developments have shaped our world since the beginning of civilization. In this report, by examining the important influences of technology and other factors which may also be powerful influences on human history, we will discuss whether technology is the basis of long term national competitive advantage. We will base our argument on Porter s and Chandler s theories, and support it with research evidence. In the following report, we will answer the questions in detail. In order to compare differences in the innovation systems of leading ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In summary, supporting innovation and use of technology helps a country move forward in the long term. 3. Comparison of Countries Japan / USA / UK / Germany / China In this report, there are five countries (Japan, the USA, the UK, Germany and China) compared at the macro level, which is about the origin of resource, input amount on R amp;D, numbers of degree holders in science and engineering, efficiency, innovative capacity index and relation to policy. The resources for Japan s innovation is mostly from private firms, universities and public research institutes; for America it is mainly from non U.S. firms as well as universities (Buiges, 2009). For the UK, Germany and China, the origin of the national innovation system is the governments of those countries. To compare the national expenditure for R amp;D, this report focuses on comparing the input to R amp;D as the share of the economic output of those countries. Japan has the highest share of expenditure for R amp;D which has been more than 3% of the country s output since 2007 and the percentage is increasing (Abe and Fitzgerald, 1995). The USA has a stable expenditure share between 2.5 to 3% since 1996 (Dicken, 2003). The expenditure of Germany and the UK have stayed between 1.5 to 2% since 1996. However, China s input to R amp;D has risen from less than 1% in 1996 to more than 2% at the end of 2007(Sun et al, 2007), and keeps growing. Table 1 illustrates ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Oral Cavity And Pharynx Research Paper It will take Matt and Maria about five to thirty seconds to chew their General Tso s chicken and rice. Food remains in their oral cavity and pharynx for about only one minute (Primal Pictures). The oral cavity is where the initial phases of mechanical and chemical digestion begins. It helps sense the food being consumed by gaining information regarding taste, texture and temperature. The pharynx is a fibromuscular structure that connects the oral cavity with the esophagus. During this time the walls of the pharynx constrict to push the General Tso chicken and rice into the esophagus. The food then travels to the esophagus and is there for a short amount of time, around five to eight seconds (Primal Pictures). The esophagus is a continuation of the pharynx. Peristalsis ... The food does not stay in the pancreas, liver, or gallbladder but simply passes by it. These digestive organs aid in the chemical digestion of chyme as it passes into the small intestine. After staying in the stomach four a few hours and passing by the pancreas, liver and gallbladder, it will go to the small intestine (Primal Pictures). Once the food is in the small intestine, it will take three to five hours from entry at the duodenum to exit from the ileum. The small intestine takes part in the further chemical digestion and absorption of the food. The nutrients from the Chinese food will pass through the wall of the small intestine and into the bloodstream so that the nutrients can spread throughout the rest of the body. The surface area for absorption will increase through tiny projections called villi. The unabsorbed portion of the bolus then enters the large intestine. • 4. The Importance Of Security In War The Jaish al Mahdi understood and exploited U.S. public opinion. This incident demonstrated that adversaries can achieve success by conducting influence operations. China identifies cyberspace as a key domain to project power and dominance. Chinese military strategists believe that information operations are directly linked to success or defeat in war and priority should be given to launching preemptive attacks. In 2005, China infiltrated numerous secure government systems and successfully retrieved more than ten terabytes of data. The following year, China attacked a total of forty nine U.S. companies and government agencies. A number of those companies were involved in the production of the F 35 and other classified military weapons. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The principles within the strategy can be linked to information as an instrument of national power. However, existing U.S. strategies have three shortfalls: 1) scope (addressing all dimensions in the information environment), 2) deterrence (defining acts of war), and 3) whole of nation approach. The first shortfall is that the scope must be broader. U.S. strategies sufficiently address threats to the physical and informational dimensions within the information environment. However, the U.S. lacks a strategy that identifies challenges and threats in the cognitive dimension within the information environment. Adversaries, such as ISIS, are effectively utilizing influence campaigns to advance their agenda by manipulation of the values, perceptions, and beliefs of the U.S. public and other target audiences. Information, or misinformation, is a primary means to shape global opinions. The U.S. continues to yield the initiative in influence operations and function in a reactionary capacity. Strategic communication messaging to enhance U.S. credibility and legitimacy have been slow and at times ineffective. The behavior data generated through social media has enabled researchers to understand groups, globally making it easier to spread and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The And Do Not Deal With Time Series Application cross sectional and do not deal with time series application. The official model specification is as follows: Socialhappy= βo +β1socialmedia+β2goodroomate+β3studyfrisat+β4academichappy+β5alc+β6tv+β7sports+β8outdoors+β9earnings The main focus of this study was to determine how social media use impacts social happiness. The social happiness question is phrased as, How happy are you with your social life at Colby? [with the following options] Very happy, Mostly happy, Indifferent, Not happy, Miserable I transformed social happiness into a binary variable. If a participant selected Very Happy or Mostly Happy they are considered socially happy at Colby. One challenge I ran into with this study was the uneven categorical data responses from the survey. The uneven increment increases made analysis more difficult in that you could no longer describe how a one unit increase in Bk affects social happiness. For example the survey asked, How many hours each day do you typically spend on social media (Facebook, Snapchat, Twitter, etc.) The listed responses were None, I don t use social media, 1 to 2, 2 to 4, 4 to 6, 6 or more. I corrected this particular issue by recoding social media to grow by two hour increments. Based upon how I observe my own peers relationship with social media, I predicted a negative relationship with social happiness. The added dictionary definition of FOMO also gives validity to this claim. Other variables also suffered from irregular increments of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This new rule was a proposal, which was done according to the Food and Drug Administration. I will have the memo broken into a few main points. The main points will go over the main idea of the piece and go into the detail about each one. The first main idea of the memo will be about going into detail in the decision of the Food and Drug Administration to see why they are making the changes to the rule. Next, I will go into how there are quite a few organizations which are very affected because of the new rule change. Lastly, I will go into detail about all the new things, the people, and organizations affected by these changes in the rule. Point 1: The Food and Drug Admiration is making adjustments to the rule. The administration proposed major alterations to the rule of company s labeling nutrients on the back of foods and other nutrient supplement. The main goal of this is to let consumers know everything they are putting into their bodies to promote more health in the country. The changes included the format where the nutrients are labeled, required a special exception for products that may not be reported on the nutrients label, and the overall reporting of nutrients. • 7. Latent Defect Essay Mike Christensen December 10, 2009 CM 385: Section 1 Final Paper How Can A Contractor Avoid Liability for Defective Work? Every contract created produces a margin of risk and a platform for success. Depending on how one manages the risk assumed, one may either excel and shine in the glory of success or drown and disappear in the raging waters of error. Nevertheless, to become great one must take that step of faith into the flailing wind. As said by Leo F. Buscalglia, The person who risks nothing does nothing, has nothing, is nothing, and becomes nothing. He may avoid suffering and sorrow, but he simply cannot learn... and grow... and live. It was six years after the completion of the Saratoga Terrace apartment complex when a child fell off the back porch stoop and received severe injuries. The parents of the child claimed that the contractor and owner were responsible due to their negligence in constructing the stoop without a protective railing. The court referenced back to the Campo v. Schofield case, which states, We have not yet reached the state where a manufacturer is under the duty of making a machine accident proof or foolproof. The court also noted that the complex had been used without accident for six years and that it did not conceal any dangers or defective work that would not have been found by a reasonable inspection. The outcome of the case proved that the pleading did not contain any allegation of a defect, and that the liability rested upon the parents of the child. Consequently, the phrase Caveat Emptor (Buyer Beware) protects the contractor from future claims as long as the defective work existed at the time of inspection and could have reasonably been identified. Nevertheless, a contractor must also understand that if the defective work is classified as a latent defect, the risk and liability associated with this defect may be transferred back to the contractor. Therefore, a contractor must understand what a latent ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the book The Sunflower written by Simon Wiesenthal, a survivor of the Holocaust during World War II, he described his conflict with Karl, a dying Nazi soldier who killed many innocent Jews and begging for forgiveness for his outrageous crime at the end of his life. At the end of this sad and tragic episode, Simon did not response to Karl s request directly; instead he left us a tough question: What should you have done? Based on what Karl had done during World War II and his repentance, each person might have their own point of view about where should we draw the line of forgiveness. The most two related experiments to shows Karl s actions in psychological ways are taken by Stanley Milgram and Philip Zimbardo. In Milgram s experiment, it showed that subordinates would have a tough time if they go against orders. More specifically, Milgram displayed the data that twenty five out of forty subjects choose to fully obey the order even though their actions would be harmful for learners (Milgram 64). This experiment displayed a persuasive evidence to show that people attend to follow the command from the authority; even the order might have conflict with their humanity. Chaplin and Fear of Hot Climates in the Anglo American Colonial Experience by Karen Kupperman both provide great insight on specific cases in which European exploration and colonization lead to drastic changes in timely practices related to health, diet, and daily life. In her piece, Chaplin explicitly discusses the issue of scurvy in relation to circumnavigation, ranging from the 1500s to the beginning of the 1800s, with the assistance of direct accounts, narratives, medical statistics, and European literature. Generally, throughout the 3 centuries, sailors and captains believed that scurvy (also known as sea sickness) could be cured solely through direct contact ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Kupperman begins her article with a summary of standard body humor belief, while criticising the European belief that uncommon climates drastically affected their health. Nevertheless, once colonization of the West Indies and the Americas began, Europeans quickly realized the benefits of warmer climates, such as increases in crop production, harvest, and variety. Negatives were also analyzed as weeds ran rampant and working hours were compromised around the hottest parts of the day. Adaptation and acclimation were central components of new colonization lifestyle, which included altering physiology through trained sweating and diet, wearing lighter and informal articles of clothing, and building homes in different locations and out if different materials. Colonists generally learned their survival skills from natives, who offered their own remedies to medical conditions such as heat stroke and yellow fever, which colonists quickly adapted as the diseases of the West Indies seemingly contrasted from those of Europe. Although Europeans originally denied their possible success and survival in the New World, many found that immense production accompanied the climate change, which was worth the health risks and lifestyle ... • 11. Greek Gods And Myths Now we all know that God exists, but how accurate are the bible stories that describe God compared to that of the Greek ones and their Gods. In other words, how does Christianity compare to stories, fables, and myths? DISCLAIMER Before I do anything I just want you to know that I wrote up a ten page paper but I shortened it down destroying all evidence of other gods or religious figures not based on Christianity. So please excuse me if I sound like an atheist. For one thing, God and the Greek gods are quite similar in how to act. For instance, God has wisdom just like Athena that they both used in battle, times of diplomacy and to empower the people of earth. God rules over all just like Zeus and promised righteous judgment to all who did not sacrifice towards him. However, our God also has some ... Now we all know that God exists, but how accurate are the bible stories that describe God compared to that of the Greek ones and their Gods. In other words, how does Christianity compare to stories, fables, and myths? First I feel that it be best for me to take a step back to describe God in the clearest way possible. One of God s many traits is that of his immaculate wisdom. Wisdom is the ability to devise perfect ends and to achieve these ends by the most faultless means. In other words, God makes no mistakes. He is the Father who truly knows best, as Paul explains in Romans 11:33: Oh, how great are God s riches and wisdom and knowledge! How impossible it is for us to understand His decisions and His ways! So how do the other Greek gods with wisdom stack up against God? For one they are already short stacked because none of them have perfect wisdom and although they do have wisdom it is not the immaculate wisdom that God has. For instance, Athena may have wisdom, but she can still be bested. If I was to speak in a down to earth way it would mean ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Oscar Wilde Perhaps I feel compelled to write on the subject of depression because it is a selfish disease. It seeps into every crevice of one s life; it refuses to be ignored, to be relegated to some obscure corner of the mind. Perhaps I m writing about it because of what I have learned about my relationship with the disease. Perhaps the time has come when I m ready to stop cursing the depression and start embracing it. What I m about to say is terribly unfashionable, and I hope that you will forgive any offense that it may cause. In all truthfulness, I m glad that I have lived with depression as a companion. ... She had accepted that her deafness was a part of her life, without allowing it to define who she was. For quite a while, I wasn t able to see my depression in that way. When it was first diagnosed, I didn t want to admit that this was something that would affect my existence. I wanted to rid myself of the illness immediately. As the years passed, however, I let myself become the incarnation of the disease. Lurking at the edge of my consciousness was the thought that I should resist the attempts to heal the depression. A part of me believed that if I let the medications and psychotherapy take the depression away from me, I would be lost. Rather than seeing myself as a person with depression, I saw myself as a depressed person. The distinction is subtle but significant. I have finally reached the point where I can see both the horrors and the beauty of depression. It is something that should be neither glorified nor reviled. I am able to hate the illness for stealing away moments of my childhood while simultaneously appreciating the insight it has helped me to gain. Had I not known the absolute anguish it brought, I would not now recognize supreme happiness. Throughout history we can see that mental health has evolved in the way we conceive it. Also, through history, we understand why the mentally ill have been tortured, or protected, and this will depend on the perspective of the human being at that particular time. Mentally ill people in prehistoric times were seen as if evil spirits possess them, so the exorcism and spells applications were the ways to treat their condition. One of the popular techniques for broadening the patch antenna bandwidth is to incorporate a U slot on its surface. Young boys and girls are abducted and forced to join the soldier life without their consent. Legally, a child cannot consent to what is right and wrong. This implies that such children are compelled to engage in activities which they should not be doing. The higher demand for a strong fighting strength is one of the core factors that enhance inclusion of children as soldiers. The groups fighting for control of resources uses all means to have a fighting strength without paying attention to children rights. By 2005, it was estimated that more than 8000 children were involved in soldier hood activities, whereas, more than 20,000 were awaiting demobilization. The consequences of conflicts in West Africa saw many children recruited as soldiers forcibly. The recruiters of children employ different tactics to ensure such children remain in the group to fight for them. Of the strategies used is to make sure the children witness the child rebels being severely punished. However, successful ministers and ministries are the result of effectively executed administrative duties. According to Robert Welch and his book Church Administration, a study of pastors revealed, about 57 percent of their ministry was tied up in strictly nonpastoral administrative duties. 1 What is more, many ministers admitted, counseling, visitation, family time, prayer and personal devotions suffer in too many cases. 2 Is this simply a case of misguided expectations, poor leadership ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I remember when I was given my first ministry leadership opportunity, there were barely twenty people to manage and that was only for one summer. However, in my current setting, there are hundreds of people that I am responsible. To help with this situation, Welch points to the story of Moses and Jethro as an example of a wise and foolish leader. Moses attempted to manage everyone alone (being foolish) and his wise father in law recommends that he administers differently by appointing leaders of 100s, 50s, 10s, and so on. What is more, Welch points out an interesting fact of that God chose significant leaders who were prepared for the task of leadership and organization. 4 There is great importance to recognize God s selection of people for the work and the connection between leadership and organization. Perhaps as leaders become more organized their leadership grows; and vice versa. Also, the Apostle Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 12 about God giving the church different leadership roles; one of which is administrations.5 Therefore, the role of administration is from God and necessary for a church to thrive; as well as grow into what Jesus intends it to be. Also, my role is not to unload the needs of administration onto someone else, but rather see administration as a primary function of my role within the church. Yet what exactly is administration within the context of the local church? At a glance, administration seems to be the function of a church secretary or assistant pastor rather than a role every leader plays. However, this assumption is misguided because administration is leadership. Welch eloquently states administration ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Despite the fact this didn t make up much of the exam I later decided that this would be my capstone topic backup in case I don t like the one I came up with in the future. And like I predicted I did not like my previous topic and chose to continue this. The reason I thought to do this for my capstone after my other idea failed was because I found that people would get a lot more out of this. We go to an arts school and frankly unless something has to do with the history of our art forms people don t really pay that much attention to history, unless they plan to become an anthropologist. I found that with this I can educate my classmates on the history of those who came before us and then apply it to current day ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

After realizing what Humbert really wanted from her, Lolita reverses roles and begins to use her body as a way to gain money from Humbert. Through her pettiness and troublesome ways, Lolita gains the upper hand on Humbert and successfully makes money through sex. While bureaucratic control is speedier and simpler to cultivate and offers straightforward direction to managers, it can be inflexible, it does not reward excellence, and workers may be discouraged by too many rules and the deficiency of involvement. Decentralized control allows for opportunities of contribution, recompenses superiority and creativeness, and welcomes collaboration. Yet, decentralized control can be vague and costly, and can take a great deal of time to cultivate. • 34. Purpose Of Federalism Federalism in the Constitution Explain what federalism is and what its purpose is. Federalism is the division of powers between state and national governments. Federalism gave lower levels of government power that they did not have. The purpose of federalism is to give the people a sense of power, and essentially more liberty. However, it also allows a balance of power by giving states the rights to make their own laws, all while still recognizing the national government as superior. Explain what the privileges and immunities clause is. The privileges and immunities clause states that other states have no right to discriminate against another state and its residents. This gives residents that relish in the privileges and immunities clause in their state, the right to have indistinguishable treatment in other states. Additionally, a state must not give their residents any special privileges. Compare the differences between implied powers, reserved powers, and concurrent powers. Implied powers are powers that are given to Congress by the Constitution in which they have the power to make any law that is necessary and proper for conveying the foregoing powers. Reserved powers fall under the tenth amendment, and their purpose is to reserve powers to the states. Concurrent Powers are the powers that both the national and state governments have such as the power to retain power for the regulation of commerce. Throughout the book, Huxley presents a world much different than the one we are accustomed to. Some question whether the novel portrays a dystopian or utopian civilization. There are a variety of advantages and disadvantages of Huxley s world paralleled to the one we live in today. Two major disadvantages considered consist of the lack of family, monogamy, and social organization; as well as the need for soma in lieu of happiness, or rather the fake happiness it compromises. In contrast, the benefits of the society are limited. These consist of concepts behind the elimination of conflicts, commitments, and worries. Everybody observes the story from a different perspective. Knowing the gains and losses of each society, which pertain to the family system, monogamy, feelings of world peace, elimination of commitment, and the exclusion of disease, will assist a person in concluding their belief on whether each culture is flawless or severely corrupt. Some may argue that Huxley s removal of the normal family system and replacement of it with a polygamous arrangement is an enthusiastic one. However, the concept behind monogamy and family is a beautiful one. Monogamy is strength, it gives people a home and a person they can trust and believe in with their whole heart.
